Green Gables
Anne of Green Gables is a childhood classic created in 1908 by Lucy Maud
Montgomery. It quickly became a popular book for children to read as it was easily
relatable. In the book an old couple living on a farm adopted an orphan boy to help
with work, however, when Matthew the old farmer went to get the child at the
railway station, he instead found a girl. Since he couldn t leave the child by herself he
took her with him back home to Green Gables. When Marrilla, the sister of Matthew,
saw the child, she went with Anne to the orphanage to send her back. When she
arrived she saw how terrified the girl, whose name she learned was Anne, looked when
she saw who she was going to be handed over to, so she decided to keep her, and hence...

This is when Mrs. Lynde, Green Gables nosy neighbor, came to visit the familywhen she
learned that they had gotten a girl instead of a boy. When Anne was presented to her
she talked about how skinny Anne was and how her hair was so red. Anne being close
enough to hear what Mrs. Lynde said to Marrilla got very mad and told Mrs. Lynde
rude things about her. After this confrontation Marrilla had a talk with Anne about
saying things to her guests and told her she must apologize. In the book Anne said she
would not apologize to Mrs. Lynde so Marrilla shut her up in her room until she did.
In the movie however it was completely different, with a much more dramatic effect.
This time when Marrilla told Anne to apologize Anne said she would rather go back to
the orphanage than go apologize to Mrs. Lynde. Though this may not seem like a big
change from the book it most definitely is. During the beginning of the book you can
see how much Anne adores Green Gables, and it is easily apparent that she would never
give Green Gables away. It is a definite change to the story and how Anne feels about
where she is. Soon after that the filmmakers created another mistake, forgetting to put a
church into the movie. In both tellings of Anne of Green Gables Marrilla was a very
religious woman and tried to make Anne religious too. Every Sunday she made Anne
go to the community church, or at least, you assume so. Throughout the entire movie
you never see Anne going to church, although you see her becoming more religious. As
well, in one scene of the movie you get to see Anne walking with Marrilla and another
woman, who they address as Mrs. Allen, one of the churches class teachers, as said in
the book. Once again though, there is no mention of the church, there is also no reason
to believe they left it out because of religious purposes as they would skip the religious
remarks completely then, and
Whistleblowing And Sarbanes Oxley Due
Whistleblowing and Sarbanes Oxley Due
Whistleblowing can be described as the disclosure of illegal, immoral, underhand or
unlawful transactions, deals or practices of their employers or companies to people,
institutions that are most likely to take action. What sets whistleblowing apart from
other types of disclosures such as a tell all is that it is made for the purpose of reporting
wrongdoing in a company or organization to an agency or person that can take some
actions. Whistleblowing is gaining popularity at such a fast pace, and more people are
coming forward with dirty deals of their companies in the hope that something can be
done about it. The reasoning behind whistleblowing is that the rights and interests of the
public are hampered and interfered with by organizational abuses that go against the
accepted societal norms and may breed inefficiency if something is not done about it
(Weinstein, 1979). Organizations that encourage a culture of whistleblowing by their
employees have been known to be more transparent characterized by free employee
communication and trust. The benefit of this is that wrongs can be easily detected, and it
also promotes an ethical work environment (Berry, 2004).However, whistleblowing is not
an easy thing that anyone can do especially in an organization. It always come with
consequences that may not only affect the whistleblower but often those he cares deeply
about such as spouse and
The Era Of The Renaissance
Italy can be looked at as the home of the renaissance and consequently the immergence
of great art. Artists such as Michelangelo, Botticelli, Da Vinci, and Raphael are some
of the greats and are looked at for standards. But what about the artists whose lives are
mysteries, and their works that were influenced by the greats? These artists hold just as
much importance in the history of art as do the artist s whose names can be recalled off
the top of an average person s head. During the sixteenth century things began to change
in the art world, and that change was the Baroque. This new style of art brought a
revolution to how subject matter was painted, it brought upon ... a radical
reconsideration of art and its purposes... (249) and how artists of all ranks could learn to
paint the up and coming style of Baroque.
Renaissance art created standards and principles that every painting and artist had to
utilize in order to even be considered good, let alone great. Characteristics such as the
phenomenon of natural light, one point and linear perspective, and highly idealized
religious or mythological figures changed into the Baroque techniques of manipulating
light to create emphasis, dramatizing the illustrated allegory, and unidealized realism.
Additionally, ... the Baroque trend dominated and gave its name to the age... [but it was
the presence of both styles] that give the Italian seventeenth century its richness and
diversity. (4) Italy, and Romeespecially, is home to what can

The new value is obtained by applying a certain function to each input pixel and its
direct neighbors. These neighbors are usually the 8 adjacent pixels (in a 3 x 3 filter)
or the 24 surrounding pixels (in a 5 x 5 filter). Filtering was used to derive slope shape
map as follows DFDX Detects slope differences in x direction. Positive values in the

Montclair Learning Center
I will always have a vivid recollection of the first time I truly felt independent. I was
seventeen, working as a counselor at a local summer camp called Montclair Learning
Center. Now it s not one of those camps where you see kids are constantly at play;
sliding across slip and slides, eating popsicles, fighting over who gets the last popsicle.
Montclair Learning Center was a place where kids were learning so many new things
that they were having fun learning it. My first day working there will forever be stored
in the back of my head; as soon as I walk in the door the children swarmed around me
like bees asking me question after question; How tall are you? What grade are you in?
Why is your voice so deep? . Once I managed to get the last kid constricting my leg off of
me, I introduced myself to my boss Mrs. Avery. She gave... Show more content on

opened up their laptops eager to learn this new program. I introduced myself to the
class and began teaching them about the program. As I was teaching the program to
the children, a peculiar feeling was coursing through my body, I just couldn t stop
smiling. I was overflowing with joy. Being a teacher was always seen as a boring job;
it s very hard to be one, they have to become a master of what they are teaching, and they
don t get payed a lot. The one thing that students don t realize about teachers is that when
they see their students eyes light up from learning something new, it s one of the best
feelings in the world. When teaching my students I could see the indulgence of learning
something new in their eyes and I felt that feeling teachers get, the feeling of being
independent, and grown up. Independence truly brings happiness to a

Abstract
Chromium which is a chemical element ,a metal,is toxic pollutant .Nowdays these are
found to be present in soils due to many human activities. It affects plant system and
microorganisms that are present in soil as well.Phytoremediation has emerged as a
process to minimize or eliminate chromium from chromium stressed soils, but this
process takes long time.So when plant growth promoting bacteria( PGPB) is used with
this process as bioinoculant then it results into increased plant growth and higher
chromium reducing effects.PGPB via root architecture modification increases chromium
uptake,secretes metal
A Vegetarian Diet
Humans were created to be vegetarians by natural design due to evolution. A vegetarian
diet can meet current recommendations for all [suggested] nutrients (Position of
American Dietetic Association). Benefits such as a healthy diet, lowers risks of diseases
and risks of specific illnesses, financially low cost, and support of animal rights. Other
problems that arise from producing livestock for slaughter are the ecological impacts that
result due to cattle production, pollution of ecological systems, horrors of meat
production , waste of natural resources, and a lifestyle in which humans are more
prone to diseases. There are many ways the environment is degraded through
production of livestock as a major food source. The adoption of a vegetarian diet is
more beneficial to the planet due to a smaller ecological impact on the Earth. These
negative impacts on the environment and the individual can be resolved with the
adoption of a vegetarian diet because this diet provides several beneficial results in life
today.
A vegetarian diet is a lifestyle choice that consists of a diet made of foods that come
primarily from plants.Vegetarian diets include a variety of many health promoting
phytochemicals (Winston), which are found in fruits and vegetables. A diet that is
vegetarian may consist of little or no animal products or byproducts. Humans were
created as vegetarians by natural evolution. Humans have flat teeth used for eating
vegetables, fruits, and grains. Humans were

Diabetes is a disease that currently affects 346 million people worldwide (WHO 2011,
Diabetes Program, p. 1). The National Health Priority Action Council (NHPAC)
highlighted that the direct health care expenditure on diabetes in 2000 01 was $812
million (NHPAC 2006, p.7). This essay will address the role of health screening and
health promotion in regards to diabetes mellitus. It will discuss the topics of morbidity,
mortality, and aetiology as well as strategies to reduce incidence and prevalence, current
strategies for health promotion, the role of health screening, future planning, and the

1), as the varying classifications of the disease occur from varying origins.
Type 2 diabetes, which is the most common, is caused by mostly modifiable health
factors, which include obesity, lack of physical activity, and unhealthy diets (WHO
2011, p. 2), although it is also related to increasing age, strong family history of diabetes,
and ethnicity (Zimmet amp; Magliano 2011). This type of diabetes is most likely to
decrease if there is an increase in health promotion.
Type 1 diabetes usually develops in childhood or adolescence (WHO 2011, p. 2), and
will result in death if the disease is not treated by consistent insulin injection. This type of
diabetes is slightly more complex as it is substantially caused by gene mutation (WHO
2011, p. 2). The World Health Organization (2011, p. 2), describes the aetiology of the
disease as the autoimmune destruction of the beta cells of the pancreas.
Gestational diabetes, which is much less common, only occurs during pregnancy and is
caused by a resistance to the actions of insulin brought on by the hormones a woman s
body releases during pregnancy (WHO 2011, p. 2). Once diagnosed with gestational
diabetes mellitus you are at a greater risk of developing type 2 diabetes later in life
(Zimmet amp; Magliano 2011). For this reason it is particularly important to use
preventative measures and consistent health checks.
Health screening is an important
Drug Trials Problem
When thinking of people who take advantage of the drug industry for monetary
reasons, what generally comes to mind is either people who deal illegal drugs or big
businesses who charge exorbitant amounts of money for their products. There is a
third type of person who participates in enough paid drug trials to make a living.
Making a job out of paid participation for drug trials touches on profit, progress, and
problems. However, I am going to focus on mainly the problems. When individuals try
to participate in enough paid clinical drug trials to make a job out of it, a number of
problems result for both the individuals and the study. It is often people with minimal
skills or those in non lucrative job markets that turn to paid drug trials.... Show more

Take Elliott Sharp again for example, His pro tip for people interested in participating
in tobacco research is to always say you smoke name brand cigarettes and when asked
how many cigarettes you smoke a day pick a number, any number, greater than ten
(Sharp, 2012). Even he realizes and states in his article that this type of lying can skew
data. Researchers should be looking for those outliers is his defense (Sharp, 2012).
What he doesn t seem to say is that if everyone takes his advice and a trial ends up
loaded with people who lied about their health or lifestyle, those liars are no longer a
few outliers. Studies can end up wasting their money on inconclusive results or result in
inaccurate findings. While this may not seem like a big issues in the field of tobacco
research, imagine if this philosophy crossed over into research dealing with life
threatening health implications, these little lies on the front end of trials could cause
serious issues for
The Human Cost Of An Illiterate Society By Jonathan Kozol
Throughout English 1010 thus far, I can certainly say that my writing skills have been
tested and tried. Writing for fun and composing rhetorical essays for a college level
English class are vastly different styles and require contrasting attitudes, voices, and
points of view for each. Before writing essays of the former diction, I must admit that I
did not understand the rhetorical strategies and had no idea there even was a rhetorical
triangle. The assignments included in this portfolio show the advancements I have made
in my writingwith an academic tone.
While writing my summary and response for the essay The Human Cost of an Illiterate
Society by Jonathan Kozol, I quickly became aware of my weaknesses with shortening
and summarizing essays. Especially when trying to identify rhetoric, I tend to run on and
have difficulty cutting out the extraneous and superfluous content. Luckily for me, that
was the entire point of the assignment and I filed those skills away for the sake of my
future writing career. When revisiting this piece, I found that there were certain sentences
throughout that used opinion and have no place in a summary.
For some reason, the visual analysis assignment was by far my most difficult essay to
finalize and compile into a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
That being said, other times you learn just as much from revising your work as you did
from completing the initial assignment. Refining my rhetorical analysis was indeed an
experience of both troublesome and rewarding. Since my academic voice is somewhat
similar to when I began this class, I decided to simply move and alter bits and pieces of
the text. The biggest change was correcting the many instances where I use the wording
the audience, rather than the actual, specific target audience of the paper. This helped me
implement much better usage of my understanding of the rhetorical triangle. Adjusting
wording and phrasing also bettered the
Blade Runner
Importance of Presentation
The movie Blade Runner is a science fiction which deals with ideas, such as time travel
or human cloning. The movie has certain terminologies which form the base of the movie
and which makes the movie interesting, such as Replicants and Blade Runner .
What are blade runners? They are androids that look like real human beings. They are
artificially created humanoids with short, fixed life spans, which are illegal on Earth but
are used in the off world colonies. They display not only great physical strength in the
film but also great intelligence. In simplest terms, Replicants are Robots or Clones
created by humans. The term replicant, in the movie, is used in such a way that it gives a

The American Dream In The New York City
New York City, the shining icon of the American dream and the mixing pot of cultures,
was but a name I knew when I was young. Nine years ago, I finally set foot on the
fabled city when my family immigrated to the United States. The gigantic airport, JFK
International, spanned for miles and its terminals stood proudly over the jumbo jets
below. That night, nausea from the plane s descension and the entropic movements of
my aunt s Jeep prevented me from seeing the outside world. I rested my head on my
mom s lap while still imaging what the city was like. Just a few days ago, I was living
in ShenZhen. On the opposite side of the Hong Kong, ShenZhen shared much of its
prosperities as a special financial district of China. As a result, I believed that New York
Citywould be no different than where I was used to living. However, I was quite
excited about the subway system that covered the entirety of the Big Apple. We didn t
quite have something like that in ShenZhen yet, so I was eager to see the subway
system that many other cities modelled after. I was even more interested in learning the
American culture, especially holidays like Christmas and Thanksgiving. I woke up early
in the morning, eager to see the snow outside and all the foreign novelties. In the
kitchen, my aunt and cousin were making toast and took out glass bottles of Snapple.
After having breakfast, I tried to play with my cousin. I had a conversation with him in
broken English despite my experiences in Honors
Battle Of Agincourt Analysis
The Battle of Agincourt in 1415 is one of the most famous battles in history. Made
popular by Shakespeare s play Henry V, many people have forgotten or are unaware of
the true details of the actual battle. Myriad details have never been satisfyingly
resolved. One of the controversies involves the fact that Henry V ordered the deaths of
the French prisoners that he had gained during the battle. According to most historians,
Henry commanded his soldiers to kill the prisoners after the battle was already won,
though he may or may not have realized it at the time. In regard to this fact, researchers
have called Henry everything from a clever strategian to a cruel tyrant. There are a few
eyewitness accounts, called chronicles, but... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Shakespeare introduces the notion that Henry commissioned his invasion of France
upon the instability of his position on the throne as his main focus, as well as his
claim to the French throne. Therefore, his determination was authentic, possibly
making him resolve to win at all costs as he faced the French army that reputably was
much larger than his own. According to Shakespeare s tale, the killing of the prisoners
during the battle of Agincourt seems to have been induced by a sudden panic on the
part of Henry V when he heard a sudden commotion and realized that his army was
being attacked from behind, just as his victory seemed assured. While this latter concept
corresponds fairly well with the original accounts, Shakespeare s rendition of the event
must be handled with caution as historical fiction, not historical fact. Additionally, in the
play, immediately before this happens, he hears a vivid account of how one of his
relatives died in the battle, and his grief may have played a part in the suddenness of the
order (Shakespeare, 1599, Henry V, Act IV, Scene VI) Five accounts currently exist that
have survived from the time of the battle in which the
Kant’s Practical Imperative in the Film The Insider Essay
This principle is referred to as Kant s practical imperative and is an important principle
for an ethical system which says that each human being is an end in himself or herself.
No human being should be thought of or used merely as a means for someone else end.
Dr. Jeffrey Wigand the main protagonist of The Insiderportrays himself to be a conflicted
individual as he makes decisions throughout the movie. Against an undetermined future,
he ruminates about what he knows is right for example, receiving threats, the phone
ringing at odd hours. He makes most of his decisions by weighing the cost and benefits,

The Kantian perspective would consider Lowell actions to be unethical, as he encourage
another person to break his promise for a greater of social good. Lowell knows the extent
of the pleasure, but not the pain. The benefits of his encouragement would uphold the
honor of 60 minutes and CBS news, protecting the public against harm. The
disadvantages and the cost would result in Wigand and his family losing all benefits
from the agreement. The possible lawsuit faced against CBS and damages to the tobacco

he would receive the benefits and the tobacco industry and employees are protected. It

both Wigand and Bergman used each other as means to one anothers end.
Not actually being in his position it would be difficult to decide to what my actual

protect the public. I would have probably done the same as it would be my moral

to act in accordance, regardless of the good or bad consequences that may be produced.

The Cultural Conflict of Hugh Selwyn Mauberley Essay
The Cultural Conflict of Hugh Selwyn Mauberley
By imitating writing styles of ancient poets, Ezra Pound exhibited his attitude toward
modern civilization, and his famous poem, Hugh Selwyn Mauberley, is the stereotype. In
this poem, Pound revealed his disagreement with industrial society. The poem is an
imitation of other old poetic styles, or epic style; however, it presents ironic meaning. To
fully understand Pound s divergence from modern culture, the ways of presenting his
position will be firstly explained. Next, the focus is on the contrast between the elitist and
popular culture. Finally, to highlight Pound s attitude, I prefer to make comparison with
other literary masterpieces, Odyssey, which have similar poetic style, ... Show more

The focus of Ezra Pound s cultural conflict is the contrast between high culture and
popular culture. And, the source of the conflict has a close relationship with a modern
technological advance in human history, the industrial revolution. The revolution not
only changed people s life but also influenced the way of thinking. As a result,
materialism and capitalism influenced industrialized areas. With the advance of
technology, it improved human s living standard on the physical side, but decreased the
spiritual level. To some persons like Ezra Pound, it is the end of Western civilization
rather than the physical improvement of man s life. Hence, Pound comes to terms with
his historical situation not by abandoning his ideal of high art, but by maintaining it in
ironic contrast to the products of modern culture. i[i] Literary work itself, like a mirror,
reflects cultural facts of its contemporary period, and Pound considered the art of a
society to be an index to its vitality ii[ii] In Hugh Selwyn Mauberley, there is a clear line
between elitist and popular art, or the ideal and the reality. This kind of distinction is the
result of explosive growth of capital society that overpowers and endangers high culture;
yet ambitious poets could not disregard the sign. An ideal situation is that both modern
technology and culture should grow at equal rate.

ABSTRACT
Structural defects are inevitable in graphene due to its production techniques as well as
chemical and heat treatment processes. These defects in graphene are introduced
either during the production process or deliberately by us to tailor its properties. In
this article, the effect of nearest neighbour distance and angular orientation between
Stone Thrower Wales defects (STW 2) on the mechanical properties and failure
morphology of graphene was investigated in the frame of molecular dynamics.
Mechanical properties and failure morphology of graphene was predicted to be the
function of angular orientation between STW 2 defects, when the nearest neighbour
distance was in the range of 10 Г…. Graphene sheet containing pair of STW 2 defects
had shown an overall increase of 8% and 11% in fracture strength and strain
respectively as compared to graphene with single STW 2 defect. This study also
characterised the failure morphology of graphene sheet with single and pair of STW 2
defects in the armchair direction.

The Impact of Technology Emerging technologies affected lives of many people on the
Great Plains frontier, ones that were already living there, and others that would
eventually migrate there. Technology increased the Plains goods being produced, made
life easier, and brought our country closer together. Although there are some
disagreements, I believe that commercialization and technology was a benefit for most
westerner in the late nineteenth century.

would over look the land, because it had a very little amount of trees and the ground

The lives of the native Americans that had already been living on the Great Plains

Custer s last stand, and geronimo. What we don t read in our textbooks is how they

How and to what extent did war and violence contribute to the definition of chivalry as
both an historical and social phenomenon?
It is largely acknowledged by historians that, while it is difficult to be definitive in the
meaning of chivalry with Maurice Keen believing it to be a word elusive of definition
it came to denote the culture of a martial estate which regarded war as its hereditary
profession . Thus, it could be considered that the violence of war had large implications
on what people began to perceive to be chivalry. Additionally, the focus on violence such
as the participating in tournaments and jousts further emphasises the close link between
carrying out violent acts and the idea that a knight was being chivalrous. ... Show more

The historian Richard Kaeuper notes that prowess being crucial to honor may have
contributed as much to the problem of violence as it provided a solution . Therefore,
this appears to convey why the concept of chivalry began to be associated with
violence and warfare as knights, in the pursuit of honor, became reliant on violence and
battle to prove their aptitude. This idea is supported by a medieval knight Sir John
Chandos, who stated that men brought up for martial calling cannot live without war
and do not know how to . Maurice Keen argues that chivalry was quintessentially
bellicose as it presented those who fought has having a pinnacle of honor . As a result,
the use of force by knights as a way of denoting their gallantry led to the belief that
violence was intrinsic to the notion of chivalry.
Furthermore, within the medieval period there was the development of certain
traditions and rewards associated with the concept of chivalry. The partaking in
tournaments and jousting is argued by Keen to have been a step on the scale of
chivalrous perfection . In these activities acts of violence were glorified and those who
were successful were rewarded, thus endorsing and entrenching the belief that violence
and success in war were the main premises on which chivalry was based. The extent to
which violence contributed to what came to define chivalry is

Background of the Study The National Achievement Test (NAT) is an examination given
annually to assess the competency of both public and private school students. The
students knowledge and skills are tested in the subjects of Mathematics, English, Science,
Filipino, and HEKASI for grade school and Mathematics, English, Science, Filipino, and
Araling Panlipunan for high school. The test is administered by the Department of
Education s National Education Testing and Research Center (NETRC). The results are

While there are lots of interventions to meet the national academic standard, best
practices to improve NAT performance of second year students in the public secondary
schools in the Division of Calapan City, there are comprehensive student support system
developed and implemented in Calapan City Division. More importantly, the National
Achievement Test is not just a test for students but also for the principal leadership skills
that promotes a positive school climate condition that can affect the student s academic
performance. According to the Second Regional Comparative and Explanatory Study
(SERCE), in order to promote learning among students it is essential to provide a
welcoming and warm environment based on mutual respect. In this line, there is a need

needs of the students. The purpose of this study is to identify the students profile in terms
of age, gender, family income, parents educational attainment, and grades for the last

school to understand the working condition and leadership, instructional focus and
physical environment. It will also investigate students perspective, questions
Sponges Research Papers
Sponges. When we hear that word, most of us think of the crusty sponge sitting next to
the sink. Well, what if I told you that there is an entire world of sponges that are living
creatures at the bottom of the ocean? It s true, and I m here to tell you about it.
Sponges are the basalmost clade of animals of the phylum Porifera. They are multicellular
parazoan organisms that have bodies full of pores and channels allowing water to
circulate through them, consisting of jelly like mesohyl sandwiched between two thin
layers of cells. Sponges have unspecialized cells that can transform into other types and
that often migrate between the main cell layers and the mesohyl in the process. Sponges
do not have nervous, digestive or circulatory systems. Instead, most rely on maintaining a
constant water flow through their bodies to obtain food and oxygen and to remove wastes.
Sponges are similar to other animals in that they are multicellular, heterotrophic, lack
cell walls and produce sperm cells. Unlike other animals, they lack true tissues and
organs, and have no body symmetry. The shapes of their bodies are adapted for maximal
efficiency of water flow ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
More commonly, the mesohyl is stiffened by mineral spicules, by spongin fibers or
both. Demosponges use spongin, and in many species, silica spicules and in some
species, calcium carbonate exoskeletons. Demosponges constitute about 90% of all
known sponge species, including all freshwater ones, and have the widest range of
habitats. Calcareous sponges, which have calcium carbonate spicules and, in some
species, calcium carbonate exoskeletons, are restricted to relatively shallow marine
waters where production of calcium carbonate is easiest. The fragile glass sponges, with
scaffolding of silica spicules, are restricted to polar regions and the ocean depths where
predators are

Does Tess Deserve The Final Rose Essay
The Bachelorette: Who Deserves the Final Rose? In Thomas Hardy s Tess of the d
Urbervilles, he writes of a girl named Tess. Tess is a beautiful independent young lady
who struggles with bad luck and irresponsibility. Hardy adds to the plot of bad luck by
writing about two boys: Angel and Alec who both strive to have Tess s heart. By the
end of the book, it is pretty obvious that neither of the boys deserve Tess, but Hardy
wrote this for the readers to decide who was better. This novel creates a feeling of an
old time bachelorette love story that leaves the readers clueless; however, in the end,
Angel is a much better candidate for Tess than Alec is. The scene opens up on a
beautiful day. Girls in white gowns gather and dance. A young boy... Show more content

Even at the beginning of the book, there are warning signs that he is not good for her.
One example is that he makes her extremely uncomfortable. As they were on the way
to the d Urberville mansion he continuously tries to kiss her. At the moment of
speaking her hat had blown off into the road... I shall walk (I, XIII, 53). She was so
uncomfortable around him that she took her hat off to escape him. Not once does
Tess show discomfort around Angel. Being uncomfortable around a significant other
is a sign that the two are not meant to be. Both Angel and Alec own up to what they do
and they apologize for it; however, In the present catastrophe is something that is
unforgivable. No one should think Alec is better for Tess than Angel if the reader
simply remembers the things he did to her. Not only does Alec do this to her, but
raping her causes her entire life to go downhill. Everything that happened to her from
then on is because Alec did this to her. Even as he sees her again he is supposedly a
saved man, but he blames her for the things he did when he begged, Put your hand
upon that stone hand, and swear that you will never tempt by your charms or ways
(XI, XLV, 322). He does an unspeakable act that Hardy could not write openly because
the time period would not allow him to. Although he apologizes to her, he does not
mean it. Angel, on the other hand, does truly mean what he says when he apologizes.
So much so that he runs away with Tess when she murders Alec. This just proves that
Angel does truly love Tess. Not only did Angel travel to find her and apologize, he
protects her and cares for her during her last few

  • 2. Green Gables Anne of Green Gables is a childhood classic created in 1908 by Lucy Maud Montgomery. It quickly became a popular book for children to read as it was easily relatable. In the book an old couple living on a farm adopted an orphan boy to help with work, however, when Matthew the old farmer went to get the child at the railway station, he instead found a girl. Since he couldn t leave the child by herself he took her with him back home to Green Gables. When Marrilla, the sister of Matthew, saw the child, she went with Anne to the orphanage to send her back. When she arrived she saw how terrified the girl, whose name she learned was Anne, looked when she saw who she was going to be handed over to, so she decided to keep her, and hence... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This is when Mrs. Lynde, Green Gables nosy neighbor, came to visit the familywhen she learned that they had gotten a girl instead of a boy. When Anne was presented to her she talked about how skinny Anne was and how her hair was so red. Anne being close enough to hear what Mrs. Lynde said to Marrilla got very mad and told Mrs. Lynde rude things about her. After this confrontation Marrilla had a talk with Anne about saying things to her guests and told her she must apologize. In the book Anne said she would not apologize to Mrs. Lynde so Marrilla shut her up in her room until she did. In the movie however it was completely different, with a much more dramatic effect. This time when Marrilla told Anne to apologize Anne said she would rather go back to the orphanage than go apologize to Mrs. Lynde. Though this may not seem like a big change from the book it most definitely is. During the beginning of the book you can see how much Anne adores Green Gables, and it is easily apparent that she would never give Green Gables away. It is a definite change to the story and how Anne feels about where she is. Soon after that the filmmakers created another mistake, forgetting to put a church into the movie. In both tellings of Anne of Green Gables Marrilla was a very religious woman and tried to make Anne religious too. Every Sunday she made Anne go to the community church, or at least, you assume so. Throughout the entire movie you never see Anne going to church, although you see her becoming more religious. As well, in one scene of the movie you get to see Anne walking with Marrilla and another woman, who they address as Mrs. Allen, one of the churches class teachers, as said in the book. Once again though, there is no mention of the church, there is also no reason to believe they left it out because of religious purposes as they would skip the religious remarks completely then, and

Whistleblowing And Sarbanes Oxley Due Whistleblowing and Sarbanes Oxley Due Whistleblowing can be described as the disclosure of illegal, immoral, underhand or unlawful transactions, deals or practices of their employers or companies to people, institutions that are most likely to take action. What sets whistleblowing apart from other types of disclosures such as a tell all is that it is made for the purpose of reporting wrongdoing in a company or organization to an agency or person that can take some actions. Whistleblowing is gaining popularity at such a fast pace, and more people are coming forward with dirty deals of their companies in the hope that something can be done about it. The reasoning behind whistleblowing is that the rights and interests of the public are hampered and interfered with by organizational abuses that go against the accepted societal norms and may breed inefficiency if something is not done about it (Weinstein, 1979). Organizations that encourage a culture of whistleblowing by their employees have been known to be more transparent characterized by free employee communication and trust. The benefit of this is that wrongs can be easily detected, and it also promotes an ethical work environment (Berry, 2004).However, whistleblowing is not an easy thing that anyone can do especially in an organization. It always come with consequences that may not only affect the whistleblower but often those he cares deeply about such as spouse and
  • 4. The Era Of The Renaissance Italy can be looked at as the home of the renaissance and consequently the immergence of great art. Artists such as Michelangelo, Botticelli, Da Vinci, and Raphael are some of the greats and are looked at for standards. But what about the artists whose lives are mysteries, and their works that were influenced by the greats? These artists hold just as much importance in the history of art as do the artist s whose names can be recalled off the top of an average person s head. During the sixteenth century things began to change in the art world, and that change was the Baroque. This new style of art brought a revolution to how subject matter was painted, it brought upon ... a radical reconsideration of art and its purposes... (249) and how artists of all ranks could learn to paint the up and coming style of Baroque. Renaissance art created standards and principles that every painting and artist had to utilize in order to even be considered good, let alone great. Characteristics such as the phenomenon of natural light, one point and linear perspective, and highly idealized religious or mythological figures changed into the Baroque techniques of manipulating light to create emphasis, dramatizing the illustrated allegory, and unidealized realism. Additionally, ... the Baroque trend dominated and gave its name to the age... [but it was the presence of both styles] that give the Italian seventeenth century its richness and diversity. Other problems that arise from producing livestock for slaughter are the ecological impacts that result due to cattle production, pollution of ecological systems, horrors of meat production , waste of natural resources, and a lifestyle in which humans are more prone to diseases. There are many ways the environment is degraded through production of livestock as a major food source. The adoption of a vegetarian diet is more beneficial to the planet due to a smaller ecological impact on the Earth. These negative impacts on the environment and the individual can be resolved with the adoption of a vegetarian diet because this diet provides several beneficial results in life today. Type 2 diabetes, which is the most common, is caused by mostly modifiable health factors, which include obesity, lack of physical activity, and unhealthy diets (WHO 2011, p. 2), although it is also related to increasing age, strong family history of diabetes, and ethnicity (Zimmet amp; Magliano 2011). This type of diabetes is most likely to decrease if there is an increase in health promotion. Type 1 diabetes usually develops in childhood or adolescence (WHO 2011, p. 2), and will result in death if the disease is not treated by consistent insulin injection. This type of diabetes is slightly more complex as it is substantially caused by gene mutation (WHO 2011, p. 2). The World Health Organization (2011, p. 2), describes the aetiology of the disease as the autoimmune destruction of the beta cells of the pancreas. Gestational diabetes, which is much less common, only occurs during pregnancy and is caused by a resistance to the actions of insulin brought on by the hormones a woman s body releases during pregnancy (WHO 2011, p. 2). Once diagnosed with gestational diabetes mellitus you are at a greater risk of developing type 2 diabetes later in life (Zimmet amp; Magliano 2011). One of the controversies involves the fact that Henry V ordered the deaths of the French prisoners that he had gained during the battle. According to most historians, Henry commanded his soldiers to kill the prisoners after the battle was already won, though he may or may not have realized it at the time. Therefore, his determination was authentic, possibly making him resolve to win at all costs as he faced the French army that reputably was much larger than his own. According to Shakespeare s tale, the killing of the prisoners during the battle of Agincourt seems to have been induced by a sudden panic on the part of Henry V when he heard a sudden commotion and realized that his army was being attacked from behind, just as his victory seemed assured. While this latter concept corresponds fairly well with the original accounts, Shakespeare s rendition of the event must be handled with caution as historical fiction, not historical fact. Additionally, in the play, immediately before this happens, he hears a vivid account of how one of his relatives died in the battle, and his grief may have played a part in the suddenness of the order (Shakespeare, 1599, Henry V, Act IV, Scene VI) Five accounts currently exist that have survived from the time of the battle in which the

And, the source of the conflict has a close relationship with a modern technological advance in human history, the industrial revolution. The revolution not only changed people s life but also influenced the way of thinking. As a result, materialism and capitalism influenced industrialized areas. With the advance of technology, it improved human s living standard on the physical side, but decreased the spiritual level. To some persons like Ezra Pound, it is the end of Western civilization rather than the physical improvement of man s life. Hence, Pound comes to terms with his historical situation not by abandoning his ideal of high art, but by maintaining it in ironic contrast to the products of modern culture. i[i] Literary work itself, like a mirror, reflects cultural facts of its contemporary period, and Pound considered the art of a society to be an index to its vitality ii[ii] In Hugh Selwyn Mauberley, there is a clear line between elitist and popular art, or the ideal and the reality. It is largely acknowledged by historians that, while it is difficult to be definitive in the meaning of chivalry with Maurice Keen believing it to be a word elusive of definition it came to denote the culture of a martial estate which regarded war as its hereditary profession . Thus, it could be considered that the violence of war had large implications on what people began to perceive to be chivalry. Additionally, the focus on violence such as the participating in tournaments and jousts further emphasises the close link between carrying out violent acts and the idea that a knight was being chivalrous. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The historian Richard Kaeuper notes that prowess being crucial to honor may have contributed as much to the problem of violence as it provided a solution . Therefore, this appears to convey why the concept of chivalry began to be associated with violence and warfare as knights, in the pursuit of honor, became reliant on violence and battle to prove their aptitude. This idea is supported by a medieval knight Sir John Chandos, who stated that men brought up for martial calling cannot live without war and do not know how to . Maurice Keen argues that chivalry was quintessentially bellicose as it presented those who fought has having a pinnacle of honor . As a result, the use of force by knights as a way of denoting their gallantry led to the belief that violence was intrinsic to the notion of chivalry. Furthermore, within the medieval period there was the development of certain traditions and rewards associated with the concept of chivalry. The partaking in tournaments and jousting is argued by Keen to have been a step on the scale of chivalrous perfection . In these activities acts of violence were glorified and those who were successful were rewarded, thus endorsing and entrenching the belief that violence and success in war were the main premises on which chivalry was based. The extent to which violence contributed to what came to define chivalry is

Well, what if I told you that there is an entire world of sponges that are living creatures at the bottom of the ocean? It s true, and I m here to tell you about it. Sponges are the basalmost clade of animals of the phylum Porifera. They are multicellular parazoan organisms that have bodies full of pores and channels allowing water to circulate through them, consisting of jelly like mesohyl sandwiched between two thin layers of cells. Sponges have unspecialized cells that can transform into other types and that often migrate between the main cell layers and the mesohyl in the process. Sponges do not have nervous, digestive or circulatory systems. Instead, most rely on maintaining a constant water flow through their bodies to obtain food and oxygen and to remove wastes. Sponges are similar to other animals in that they are multicellular, heterotrophic, lack cell walls and produce sperm cells.
