The poems Forgiving My Father by Lucille Clifton and Daddy by Sylvia Plath
highlight troubled relationships with the authors fathers. While most all family
relationships have weakness and strife, the ones discussed in these writings are
relationships that continue to haunt the authors many years after their fathers deaths.
The poems are similar in the authors tone, point of view, their use of excuses for their

Both Sylvia Plath and Lucille Clifton show great resentment toward their fathers that

reveals her anger toward her father and his treatment of their family when she writes,
Daddy, I have had to kill you. You died before I had time. This implies that the author
may have strong enough feelings toward her father that she wishes she could have
physically ended his life. It also shows that she is trying to bring an end to the
control that he has over her life, even in his death. In Forgiving My Father, Clifton
also shows a deep animosity toward her father and his inability and lack of
motivation to provide for his family. The lines there will never be time enough

of resentment about her father that she struggles with even after his death. Both
authors present a tone of anger, not only at their fathers for their behavior, but also at

accuse their fathers. The negative attention the father showed toward Plath impacts
the rest of her life. She states in the ninth stanza, I have always been scared of you.
This quote shows that not only was the author frightened as a child, but also
continues to experience these feelings in the present. They are real to her, and she is
speaking out about them. Clifton continues to search for love and acceptance from

with the children s novel Shiloh; either a full blown war or an abused beagle.
However, Bobbie Ann Mason s Shiloh took an interesting twist to the name. I feel,
in a way, Mason was able to incorporate both the war aspect and a form of abuse,
neglect, and intertwine it into making a beautiful short story. The way Mason
could withhold important information until the very end is remarkable. Shiloh
keeps the reader invested in the story by having the person who reads the piece of
literature guess what is really going on between the characters and wondering the
what if s of the story. The plot of this short story is wrapped around a couple who
has been through a great deal in such a short time frame. Norma Jean is married to
Leroy Moffitt, a truck driver who injured his leg in a highway accident (Mason
645). This causes Leroy to be home resting and recovering for months on end

Cushing s Syndrome is a condition that results from chronic exposure to excessive
amounts of glucocorticoids circulating in the blood stream for an extended period of
time. The disease was first reported by Harvey Cushing over one hundred years ago,
yet the condition still plagues endocrinologists today. Reasons for this difficulty
include the vast amount of often vague symptoms that the syndrome presents, most
of which are found in a plethora of other conditions as well, combined with the

well being. Players are constantly honing their bodies in the weight room not just to
become faster and stronger than their competition, but also to protect against the

of the last professional sports organizations to issue sanctions against players who
cause concussions and head injuries. Just in the past season alone, there have been

these 44 suspensions occurring in the past season may seem too excessive;
