Compare And Contrast Rose Red And Haunting Of Hill House
History of the House
The book Haunting of Hill House and the movie Rose Red. Both stories were about a
scientist trying to prove the the paranormal was real by taking people into a haunted
house. But also there are so many things that they had in different and here are some
things about the houses some similarities about the characters and differences etc. Some
differences about the house are that, when we start reading the book that lady that clean
the house Mrs. Dudley I think it was her name and she tell Eleanor and Theodora, and
all of the other people that they visit the house, that anybody live around the house the
closes that they live was six miles away because if they live close to the house
something bad will happen that why they live six miles away. In the movie there was no
leady that they clean the house there was no body there and there was houses around the
house like across the street because all of the bad things just happen at the house inside or
in the garden but not like outside like in the street or anything like that. Another interes
thing that wasn t the same from the book to the movie was like in the book when they
first enter to the house the door didn t close by themself I think Mrs. Dudley close the
doors and, in the movie when annie enter to the house there was these water source and
I think she made it to work again and the rest of the people say where is annie and she
enter to the house and the door closed by it self.

The Toronto Transit System And Municipal Transit Agency
Over the past several years, Toronto has struggled to find new dedicated streams of
revenue to fund its regional transit system, all while Metrolinx, the provincial transit
agency is developing the province s Big Move plan in hopes of connecting the Greater
Toronto and
Hamilton Area transportation system. The province stopped funding the TTC s operating
funds in 1996 and since then, the City of Torontohas relied on a subsidy from the city
and fares to balance this. Later in 2006, Metrolinx was created by the Province of Ontario
as the first
Regional Transportation Agency for the GTHA and in 2016, Move the GTHA reveals a
$30 billion funding gap which begs the questions of who should fund the regional transit
system and by what mechanisms? It is very hard for a city as large as Toronto to keep up
with its funding for regional transit without much efforts from the provincial or federal
government. The Toronto Transit
Commission (TTC) is falling behind on a massive deficit when funding its Operating
Budget.
Only two thirds of the TTC s Operating Budget are covered by fares. These fares
generate about $1.1 billion of the TTC s $1.6 billion operating budget. The rest
primarily comes from a city subsidy, which is $428 million, up from $411 million in
2013 according to Jennifer Palisoc
(Palisoc, 2014). With the continuous struggle of efforts to get Toronto s transit system
back up on its feet again, the Province of Ontario created Metrolinx; an organization

Bargaining Power of Buyers in the Aerospace amp; Defense Industry The United
States aerospace and defense industry is the largest of its type in the world. In 2009,
United Press International, Inc. reports the aerospace and defense industry achieved a
record $700 billion in spending. The defense market has experienced significant
economic growth over the last decade due to large U.S. security spending in hopes to
impact or end the global war on terrorism. The 9/11 attacks on the U.S. increased demand
in the defense market while causing a decline in the airline industry. Airlines have

Zakheim and Kadish explain two decades ago, there were more than twenty prime
contractors competing for defense contracts while today the government relies on just
six contractors to build its defense systems. Zakheim and Kadish state, The system
largely forgoes competition on price, delivery and performance and replaces it with a
kind of design bureau competition . The report explains that firms such as Boeing and
Lockheed Martin have operated in collaboration on several projects such as the Air Force
s next generation bomber (Zakheim amp; Kadish, 2008). Collaboration of this nature
suggests cooperative equilibrium between the firms to enhance their mutual payoff of
outbidding competitors. With the defense market on the downturn pending major budget
cuts over the next several years, more collaboration strategies are possible for firms to
remain competitive. The existing procurement system encourages bargaining among the
government and bidding firms. When budgets are allocated generously, demand is high
and firms can set their prices higher. Budget cuts decrease demand and increase
bargaining between buyer and seller. Security Industry reports budget deficits subject
contracts to greater 3|Page scrutiny and tougher negotiations making contracts more
difficult to obtain in the coming years (Security Industry, 2010). Defense firms are at the
mercy of the defense budget. In times when the budget is maximized and demand
increases,
Modernism In Music
Throughout the early twentieth century, music began to take on a new role as society
started to progress and change. In society, music is an important part of culture and the
forming of culture, where people can assert and preserve their histories and experiences
when facing a change in social conditions. Modernism is defying convention to an
extreme degree, disregarding boundaries completely in rhythm and tonality, opening up
doors that would eventually redefine the notion of what constitutes music. America and
Europe, pre and post WWI, both experienced drastic social changes and technological
advances which all contributed to the progression of modernism in music. From
segregation and the Great Immigration in America to the deconstruction of traditional
culture in Europe, and even the shared rise popularity in folk musicin both countries,
modernism announces itself as a prevalent and powerful voice in music which is seen
through composers such as Schoenberg, Stravinsky, Copland, and Bartok. In Europe,
modernism in music is vastly seen in Schoenberg, Stravinsky, and Bartok. At the end of
the 19th century, traditional compositional rules and techniques were proving to be more
of a strain in conveying extreme shades of emotion and meaning. While some composers
decided to continue along the path of more traditional and accepted compositions, others
decided that they needed to branch off in different directions. In London, 1902, Debussy
introduced the concept of
Analysis Of Do Not Go Gentle Into That Good Night
In Dylan Thomas poem Do Not Go Gentle into That Good Night, the main theme
represents approaching death and how life should be lived to the fullest with no
regrets. As for the technical aspects, there is a constant use of repetition, an ABA
rhyme scheme, and no apparent shift. As for poetic devices, there are a lack of
hyperboles and metaphors. The format of the poem is a villanelle, meaning it has a total
of 19 lines with five tercets, followed by a concluding quatrain with 6 stanzas in total.
The speaker is able to display the abstract concept of the poem through symbolism,
structure, and tone. The speaker of the poem uses constant repetition of the lines do not

Gm Vs Southwest Hedging Strategy Essay
Financial risk is the risk a corporation faces due to its exposure to market factors such as
interest rates, foreign exchange rates, commodities and stock prices. Financial risks for
the most part, can be hedged due to the existence of large, efficient markets through
which these risks can be transferred. This is unlike operating risk, which is associated
with more manufacturing and marketing activities. Operating risk cannot be hedged
because these risks are not traded.
In GM s case they used a passive hedging policy in which they hedged 50% of all
significant foreign exchange exposures arising from cash flows associated with ongoing
business. Passive hedging is used by highly risk averse companies that would like to be

Southwest is able to achieve a balance between hedging risk and the cost of hedging by
hedging part of its overall exposure either through a long term contract or a derivative
instrument, and keeping the remainder of the exposure un hedged so as to benefit from
favorable market movements, either through exercise of options or deals in the spot
market.
Domestic airlines have a variety of hedging strategies available to them. These include
using both over the counter and exchange traded derivatives. Options, including collar
structures, and swaps are the primary derivatives used by airlines. Many, including
Southwest have stated that they prefer over the counter derivatives to exchange traded
futures because they are more customizable1.
The ability to customize these contracts greatly facilitates the implementation of a
dynamic hedging strategy, which is successfully used by Southwest. This strategy is
based on the presumption that the oil price cycle moves in cycles rather than
consistently in one direction. To implement a dynamic hedging strategy, a firm needs
to vary the products over the oil price cycle. When oil is at the low point in the cycle,
receive fixed swaps are used because the likelihood of further price declines is not
considered as probable as price increases, and the swap contract allows the airline to lock
in the relatively low price. In the mid range of the cycle, collars are used to lock in a
specified range of prices, giving up potential
Effects Of War Between Passion And Responsibility In Ethan...
In the novel, Ethan Frome by Edith Wharton the recurring theme of the classic war
between passion and responsibility is advertised. In 1885 Edith married Edward Robbins
Wharton. She was 23. Edward was from a good family and was of the same social class
as Edith, but he was 12 years older than she was. Ethan Fromestruggles to make a living
as a farmer while his wife Zeena whines and complains about her imaginary sickness.
When Zeena s destitute cousin, Mattie Silver comes to live with the Ethan and Zeena,

He never really had to work hard on looking presentable to Zeena because he had no

apparently accepting this as final, lay watching him in silence while he pulled his
suspenders over his shoulders and jerked his arms into his coat; but as he went toward
the door she said, suddenly and incisively: I guess you re always late, now you shave
every morning. (Wharton Chapter 1) Ethan starting to shave everyday makes me think
that he is trying to improve his appearance. He is trying to look young. He is trying to
gain Mattie s attention. His need to feel like he is important and loveable is coming
before his responsibility towards Zeena. Before Mattie came into Ethan s life, he had
nothing to fight for. He knew that one way or another Zeena would get what she wants
but with Mattie it was different. He knew that she was his only chance at happiness and
the fact that Zeena could take that away from him did not settle well with

3.5 Methods of Selection for the most Senior and Junior Positions Methods of Selection:
We will take after two techniques for selecting the most senior and junior representative.
Those are: 1.Structured meeting: An organized meeting, once in a while called an
institutionalized meeting, involves the organization of a meeting calendar by a
questioner. The point is for all interviewees to be given precisely the same setting of
addressing. This implies that every respondent got precisely the same meeting boost as
whatever other. Questioners should read out inquiries precisely and in the same request
as they are imprinted on the timetable. Inquiries are generally extremely specific and
frequently offer the interviewee a п¬Ѓxed scope of... Show more content on

10.Tell me about a circumstance where you needed to work with a gathering of
individuals, which was difficult to facilitate. Portray the circumstance and your
choices to defeat this test. After the meeting, we will select1 3 candidates for the post
yet for settling we will evaluate their past conduct. We will contact to their past bosses
by checking all the references given by candidates. It is vital to know how the workers
are as an individual and how mindful and genuine they are about their employment
and this is just conceivable by surveying their past execution at any occupation. What
we will check are as per the following: a. Personal or Character References: Personal
articulations from companions or associates. b. Documentary Evidence: Certificates,
capabilities, work licenses. c. Work Experience: Descriptions gave by past managers.
d. Certificates of Service: Factual data about past business. In the wake of looking at all
these things, we will at last select one individual to be named for the most senior post. *
Selection strategy for the most junior post: For the most junior post will mastermind an
unstructured meeting. Our most junior representative will be part clock, so we are
considering to be a touch casual with them for knowing them more as an individual than
a worker. We will center to know their own
How Beneficial Is Owning A Pet
The general well being and overall state of happiness plays a significant role in the
lives of humans every single day. For a psychologist especially, it is more than
important to take note of a client s well being, happiness, and overall mood. Referring
specifically to elders, they often have the tendency to feel lonely or disconnected to
others the older that they get. Although there are multiple ways for elders to improve
their happinesssuch as exercising, surrounding themselves with people that make them
happy, having a well balanced diet or getting good sleep, there are other important factors
that we often forget to take note of. As well as this, as humanbeings we often find
ourselves creating bonds, or attachments with other people or even certain hobbies. We
even crave the feeling, want or need of support from others that we often strive to look
for and end up lacking to find. Although there is some focus on it, it is important to note
just how beneficial owning a petcan be and how much of an impact it can create towards
your own happiness as an elder in this world today, while also being the solution to many
of these studies mentioned.
Sharkin and Knox (2003) reviewed the subject of pet loss and issues and implications
for the psychologist. They focus on the importance of psychologists to understand how
significant pets can be in the lives of their clients. When referring to the effect of pet
loss on older people specifically in this research paper, it is noted
The Controversy of Deforestation Essay
The Controversy of Deforestation
Environmental issues affect every life on this planet from the smallest parasite to the
human race. There are many resources that humans and animal needs to survive; some of
the most obvious resources come from the forests. Forests make up a large percentage of
the globe. The forests have global implications not just on life but on the quality of it.
Trees improve the quality of the air that species breath, determine rainfall and replenish
the atmosphere. The wood from the forests are used everyday form many useful
resources. Moreover, thinning the forests increases the amount of available light,
nutrients and water for the remaining trees. Deforestation (forest thinning) is one of the
most ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
To begin, forest based industrialization is based on forest resources that are used to
stimulate economic growth and development. One of the products that have been
most important to human economies has always been wood. Wood is durable, light
weight, easily worked, waterproof, and a good fiber source. Wood is used in almost
every aspect of our lives, for building materials, living, and just surviving. We need
wood to build our homes to live in and buildings in which we work and spend the other
resource that comes from trees money . Studies show that 70% of the products that
we use a day are made of some kind of wood. If we were to look around our homes and
count all the items that are made of wood we would probably find that 60 percent are
made of wood. Without wood humans and other species would never be able to survive.
Another pro argument of deforestation is the issue of fuel wood in rural areas. The use
of fuel wood in the growing cities contrasts strictly with the more familiar patterns of
rural areas. The growth of energy used in rural household still dominates the energy
budgets of many developing countries, especially in the poorer countries such as Nepal,
Bangladesh, Ethiopia and Nigeria. Most fuel wood is used in the household. The concept
of an energy transition, however, is central to any understanding energy in urban areas. As

National Missile Defense Program
Ever since nuclear weapons of mass destruction have existed, people have been
attempting to create ways to prevent a war that would bring about a worldwide Arma

in which the United States can protect itself from a nuclear missile attack. What they
have come up with is the National Missile Defense program, or NMD. The NMD would
consist of a network of satellites, early warning devices, and missiles pro grammed to
spot an incoming nuclear missile. When a nuclear missile is detected, the NMD would

The fear of an attack, however, stayed with many people. It became the goal of the
United States to stockpile weapons, to use in the event of a nuclear attack from the
Soviet Un ion or other nuclear super power. A few years later, during the Nixon
Presidency in 1968, the United States, USSR, and a number of other states signed the
Nuclear Non proliferation Treaty. The NPT was designed to prevent the spread of
nuclear weapons and technology from the super power states to the still developing
states. (Winkler 1999, 182)
In 1972, four years after NPT was signed and ten years after the Cuban missile crisis, the
United States, in conjunction with the USSR, signed the ABM Treaty. The ABM treaty
was designed to regulate the number of anti ballistic missile systems, or defense shields,
of both the United States and the Soviet Union to two, and later agree ments brought that
number down to one. (Winkler 1999, 187) It did nothing, however, to regulate the
number of missiles a state could possess.
During all this time, however, US Soviet relations remained tense. The Ameri can
government taught the American people to live in fear of a possible pre emptive nuclear
strike by the Soviets. According to author Allan Winkler, this is when then President
Ronald Reagan began to design his Strategic Defense Initiative (SDI) pro gram, or Star
Wars, as many people referred to it as. (204) There were a number of early

The function and materiality of paint is emphasized when it can be identified on a
painting. There are other differences between the painters portraits. Rembrandt creates a
more distinct separation between subject and background, while Lievens blurs his subject
to the environment. Rembrandt makes clear color distinctions with clean brushstrokes to
show the separation between the subject and its background. Lievens however, smudges
the edge of the face to the background and uses similar colors. The zone of transition
between the subject and the background are blurred and start to dissolve into each
other. Lievens brushstrokes are not as careful or clean as Rembrandt s. Rembrandt
and Lievens take different approaches to depicting the forehead and brow of their
subjects. Rembrandt takes a realistic approach while Lieven takes an expressive
approach. Rembrandt s representation is thought out and smooth. He would have used
mostly wet paint to create the flat surface and various brushes to separate the colors.
He must of added thin and light layers to create a uniform look. In contrast Lievens
uses thick and alternating thick and thin layers of paint. A brushstroke is used to
articulate a physical attribute to the face. There is mixing of paint by adding a thick
layer of paint over a still wet layer.Lievens does not try to create a seamless transition
between brushstrokes like Rembrandt. Lievens is more free flowing and liberal in his

Hindu Wedding
Hindu Wedding
Hindu weddings can be very festive (Blanchard). Everyone wear bright colored clothes
and eat spicy or vegetarian food (Blanchard). They even eat flat bread, pastries, cake,
and ice cream (Blanchard). Normally, guest send the newlyweds money in an
envelope days later (Blanchard). The weddings normally last at least three days
(Blanchard). At first, the groom comes in on a white horse and that s when the guest
dance around him. The bride and her family meet the groom and his family to
exchange garlands (Blanchard). Afterwards, there is a crazy party and lots of dancing
(Blanchard). Hindu weddings are one of the most important part in a Hindu s life time
(Rosinsky 32 33). It just shows that they are tied together like a knot (Rosinsky 32 33).
They step around sacred fires and recite prayers and have wishes for their new life
(Rosinsky 32 33) . They also have songs and rituals that go along during the wedding
(Rosinsky 32 33). This is all the stuff that you may find in a Hindu Wedding.
First is the pre wedding of it all, the start of the wedding. This includes multiple steps.
You start off with the engagement ceremony which is also called the ring ceremony (
India Wedding Preparations ). Next is the Tilak ceremony and this is where the brides
brother applies the Tilak to the groom along with gifts ( India Wedding Preparations ).
Then you have the Sagai ceremony where the bride and groom both exchange their gifts
to one another ( India Wedding Preparations ). (This
How Nelson Mandela Encouraged His Country to Move On
C. S. Lewis once said, Getting over a painful experience is much like crossing monkey
bars. You have to let go at some point in order to move forward. Nelson Mandela
helped his country cross the monkey bars from apartheid to democracy, from Once a
left wing extremist, Mandela s 27 years in prison taught him that the only way his
country would survive and thrive was if his people learned to forgive and move on. A
willingness to forgive can be all it takes to unite a fiercely divided country.
The new South African government, led by President Mandela, addressed the need for
understanding but not for vengeance, a need for reparation but not for retaliation, a need
for ubuntu but not for victimisation (Volmink 191). Ubuntu, a Bantu word meaning, I am
because you are, expresses the concept that our humanity is inherently bound up with one
another. Volmink, argues that we can never be complete as human beings as long as we
are alienated from one another (191).
As part of the beginning of the post apartheid era, Nelson Mandela and the African
National Congress (ANC) established the Truth and Reconciliation Commission (TRC),
which promoted reconciliation as an ideal, not only for nation building, but also for
individual healing (Muiu 137). This idea for a safe environment in which both victims
and perpetrators could vent and share their stories without judgement gave the
commission it s power. All participants were guided toward reconciliation and some were
Dharma Bums Analysis
This week we started the reading of the Dharma Bums, which is related to Zen
Buddhism. In addition, we also get in touch with some Zen stories. Zen stories are
usually very short and easy to read, using just couple of sentences to tell people the
main thoughts of Zen. When first read them, I found some of them are interesting and
easy to understand, at least part of the meaning, while some of them are confusing.
MUDDY ROAD is one of the several Zen stories we read in class. This story talks
about the two monks, Tanzan and Ekido. When they met a lovely girl who was unable to
cross the stream. Tanzan took the girl in his arms and helped the girl across the stream.
Ekido did not say anything at that moment, but when they reached a temple at

The Victorian Period And The Romantic Period
Victorian literature is that produced during the reign of Queen Victoria (1837 1901)
also known as the Victorian era. It forms a link and transition between the writers of
the romantic period and the literature of the 20th century. The 19th century is often
regarded as a high point in British literature as well as in other countries such as
France, the United States and Russia. Books, and novels in particular, became well
known, and the Victorian novelist created a legacy of works with continuing appeal.
Many novels were published in serial form, along with short stories and poetry, in
such literary magazines as Household Words. After the upheavals of the romantic
period, Poetry became somewhat institutionalised in the Victorian era. (Victorian
Literature) During the course of the 19th century, the question of women s roles and
rights was widely debated.Questions like How should women should be educated?
What was their proper place in society? Should they be allowed to work outside the
home? Should they be able to vote and have a political voice? These and a range of
other issues constituted what the Victorians termed The Woman Question , which was
fervently analysed in discussion groups, in the press, in parliament, and in scientific
and medical circles as women pushed for greater recognition and equality. Changes in
social expectations and in legislation were achieved very slowly the vote was only
granted to women over 30 in 1918 and women over 21 in 1928, for

Proof of Heaven: A Neurosurgeon s Journey into the Afterlife

Abstract
Eben Alexander is a neurosurgeon who believed for many years that when people
explained their near death experiences it was just the hard wiring of the brain. Of course
,though, he had refined medical training. It wasn t until Alexander had caught a rare
disease which caused him to fall into a coma and had a near death experience himself.
Alexander talks about his journey towards the afterlife in his book which leads to many
questions to everyone as to whether it really happened or if it was all just a hallucination.
The paper talks about how he recounts what happened during his experience ... Show

He describes her as a beautiful girl with high cheek bones and deep blue eyes...[g]olden
brown tresses framed her lovely face (Alexander, 2012, p. 40). She was also riding on a
butterfly wing, as he recalls, and it just seems to be a way a novelist would describe an
angel guiding someone lost in heaven. There was nothing to make it sound different or
stand out. It makes it hard to believe it s Alexander trying to prove heaven is real rather
than just writing a story.
Later on in the book Alexander talks about the core where he saw [b]ig, puffy, pink
white [clouds] that showed up sharply against the deep blue black sky (p. 45).
Everyone who thinks of heaven, thinks of clouds. It is not uncommon for anyone to
describe heaven that way. It is very stereotypical and made it no different that anyone
else s image of heaven. A sound, huge and booming like a glorious chant, came from
above, and I wondered if the winged beings were producing it (Alexander, 2012, p. 45)
is also another stereotype of what people say you d hear when you re in heaven. Again,
not enough proof.
There was a section where he mentions how he came into contact with God and received
knowledge that was not taught but stored. It seemed that everyone who might have gone
to church had heard the knowledge of what God was giving to Alexander. Maybe if he

The purpose of this assignment is to select a step in the accounting cycle that is not
currently automated at one of our team members organization. The place of business we
have selected is an independent financial brokerage firm, LPL Financial. The firm places
a strong emphasis on the recruiting of established financial advisors throughout the
country. When a financial advisor joins LPL Financial, so does their clients. One of our
team member s works in the transfer department. The transfer department handles the
transferring of accounts held at other financial institutions into LPL Financial. The
transfer department handles various types of securities including stock, mutual funds,
bonds, retirement accounts, and cash. The... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
We are highly confident that this new system would complete and support the audit trail
of incoming mutual fund transfers at LPL Financial. As stated in chapter 2, an audit trail
of transactions maintained within a company s system enables information users to
follow the flow of dataВ… We would first concentrate on the automation and the support
of mutual fund transfers. However, eventually, the database would support all incoming
and outgoing transfers. This new database would integrate information from both the
Accorde System and the BETA System. The 3 systems would be able to communicate
and relay both client and transfer information. This would alleviate any inaccurate
information and the inefficiency of the entering of information. An example of the new
process is as follows:
1.A client fills out transfer forms to request the transfer of five mutual funds.
2.The forms are delivered to LPL and received and imaged by the Accorde System.
3.An employee in the transfer department reviews the image of the transfer form and
information is verified off of the BETA System.
4.Information such as client name, SS#, and LPL account info from BETA and Accorde
is transmitted to the new database.
5.The mutual fund information (CUSIP and # of shares) is entered onto the new
database by an employee.
6.The newly entered mutual fund information would be

hypothesized attachment theory, individuals who have had extensive experiences with
caregivers who are detached, careless, unresponsive, or inconsistent causing insecure

Malcolm X the Tragic Hero

Final PaperDecember 11, 2001
Malcolm X and The Shakespearean Tragic heroes
Aristotle defines a tragic hero as good but flawed, must be aristocratic, must be
believable, and must behave consistently. Aristotle. The Muslim leader Malcolm Xcan be
compared to such tragic heroes such as Othello and Hamlet. Malcolm s life and his
personality have similar traits from both of the famous Shakespearean heroes. In this
paper we will look deeper into the life of Malcolm X and find the similarities between
him and the tragic heroes, also we will prove that Malcolm X can also be referred to as
one of the great tragic heroes. Malcolm X was born Malcolm Little. He grew up in the
streets of Boston and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
To understand the phrase tragic flaw we can take it as Aristotle had stated it The tragic
flaw is the most important part of the hero and the events that occur in the work is a
reflection of that flaw. В– Aristotle. So just as in the case of Othello, Malcolm s tragic
flaw is gullibility. Many people because of their personal magnetism respect both these
men. Malcolm is highly respected by many because of his ability to get results and by
the way he is able to gain followers with his rhetoric. Othello is revered because of his
awesome military genius. Malcolm and Othello both have very high self confidence,
which is shown by the way Malcolm argues beliefs and in the way Othello justifies his
marriage to Desdemona. Since both Othello and Malcolm X came from humble and
unsophisticated beginnings their judgment was somewhat hindered. In the play
Othello Iago one of the main characters sees this in Othello the Moor is of a free and
open nature that thinks men honest that but seem to be so. (1:3:55:442 443). Iago
knew of Othello s weakness. He also knew Othello s innocence and baseness makes him
susceptible to being undermined by people. Othello is clearly a person who believes
appearances versus reality. The role of Iago in Othello s life can be compared to the role
of Elijah Muhammad in Malcolm s life. Malcolm and Othello base their reactions and
decisions solely on the advice of the one who ultimately brings about their end. In
Othello case he doesn t even
Suspense in Bram Stoker s Epistolary Novel Dracula
Suspense in Bram Stoker s Epistolary Novel Dracula
Bram Stoker uses the epistolary narrative to create suspense in Dracula by drawing the
reader into the personal lives (through the characters diary entries and letters) and
allowing him to experience the events of the novel on an intimate level. Each character
provides a first hand, first person perspective, unique for that specific character s sex,
level of education, profession, and state in life, as well as for that character s ability to
create an atmosphere of dread through description of the scene. This paper will show
how the different characters use their own experiences to create suspense in Stoker s
Dracula.
The novel is subtitled a A Mystery Story, and each chapter is a portion of one of the
characters journal, diary or letter, providing clues as to the nature of Dracula and how to
thwart his evil intentions. The story begins with Jonathan Harker s journal, which is
conveniently recorded in shorthand (1), giving the narrative a quick pace and a personal
touch. Harker includes mental notes such as, Mem., get recipe for Mina, while noting the
details of his dinner, which establishes his connections/relationships, status in life, etc.,
without much interrupting the narrative flow. Before the reader realizes it, he is
immersed in the diarist s life.
It is through Harker s journal that the reader is introduced to Dracula and his somewhat
mysterious behavior. Harker s impressions provide the reader with a
Summary Of Wildebeest s Feeding River Ecosystem
Wildebeests feeding river ecosystem for years The article I came upon that caught my
interest was how wildebeests help maintain an ecosystem for years in the Mara River.
This subject relates to our unit of study because it shows how a primary consumer and
other land ecosystems depend on the wildebeests to be able to flourish. This shows that
producers could get their food from primary consumers in special cases and how other
organisms benefit from the drowning of thousands of wildebeests. In the article it states
that, an average 6,000 wildebeests drown each year in river crossing. Subalusky and her
colleagues search to see how all that meat and bone affected the river ecosystem. They
retrieved dead wildebeests from the water to test what

Ethics:
Business decision I:
Ethical business practicese include assuring that the highest legal and moral standards are
identified in your relationships with the people in your business community. You know
the most important person in your business is your customer. You should always go for
long term profit instead of short term profit. A reputation for ethical decisions creates
trust in your business among business associates and suppliers. Strong supplier
relationships are critical to a successful business. So customer trust is only kept , if they
are treated as initially they were promised to be treated.
So considering this fact As a professional businessman the first step I will take is hear
out Mr Brawner in detail. At the moment Mr Brawner is also a customer to me so giving
my full attention to him is part of a pleasant business environment. I will ask him various
question from different angles to check what are his intentions are for the stuff he
requires.
After listening to Mr brawner in detail I will ask him to give me a week s time before I
could come to any conclusion. This will give me time to think over the issue in detail
with my team. Bringing your team in confidence is key to a healthy business. After
analyzing Mr brawner s demand in detail I will make a decision. My decision will not
only depend on achieving short term benfits to me. Such a decision will be taken which
has no affect on a particular customer s
The War Of World War I
World War 2 was a huge turning point in history, that fixed most of the things related
to wars that World War 1 was supposed to do but did not. There were many differences
between the attitude of the US in World War 1, and their attitude in World War 2,
mainly due to what happened in between the wars. Unlike World War 1, the second
World War, was not about proving a point in the American s case, but instead revenge
for what had happened in between. In the process, the attitude of the American people
towards war changed dramatically from the end of World War 1, to the end of World
War 2.
When the first World War, then known as the Great War ended, The American people
went rampant, saying that the United States was an isolationist ... Show more content on

The 1920s in America, can be divided into two different parts. The first being the
boom itself, and the other being the problems that indirectly lead to the catastrophic
30s. The 1920s was a period that saw the deep south being urbanized, thus moving
away from ordinary farming, to factories. This also included the great migration,
which saw many african american moving the upper north states like New York,
creating what was known as the harlem renaissance in Harlem, New York. A lot of the
current big money places like LA and Chicago started their boom in the 20s. While
many great things happened in the 1920s many questionable things also happened in the
decade. For example, in 1924, the evil racists political group from the post civil war era,
known as the Ku Klux Klan or the KKK, reorganized as a racist nativist group who
opposed anyone who was not an american born white protestant. They successfully got
the government to block immigrants from entering the country, as to lessen the fear of
communism spreading. The Problems associated with the KKK and immigration,
indirectly lead to the great depression seen in the 1930s.
The backend of the 1920s, saw the US transition from greatest boom to the greatest
recession, known as the great depression. The 1920s was all about the credit system.
This credit system did not have any limits, because at the time, republicans followed
Lizzie Borden Case
Lizzie Borden took an axe and gave her mother 40 whacks and when she saw what she
had done she gave her father 41 . Lizzie Borden was accused for the murder of her
father and stepmother. The childhood rhyme is technically false. One reason would
be that the Borden case was never solved and another would be that Andrew, Lizzie s
father, was whacked only 11 times and Abby, Lizzie s stepmother, was whacked 19
times. The mystery behind Andrew and Abby Borden can be summed up in two
theories: Lizzie was the killer and there s no way she was the murderer. Now, While the
death of Abby and Andrew Borden is brutal, it as yet to be solved. On the hot morning of
August 4,1982 in Fall River, Massachusetts, two people were killed, many people
pointed the finger at daughter of Andrew Borden, one of the people murdered on that
hot morning (Bee 1). In addition, Lizzie s mother died when she was only three years
old not long after, her father was soon married to Abby Gray, the other person killed that
morning (King 1). Abby, Lizzie s stepmother, believed that the reason everyone in the
house became sick around the time of the murders was that they had been poisoned
(Barclay 2).... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One of the most key suspects was Lizzie because she disliked her stepmother, Lizzie
also would receive her father s money. In addition, Lizzie had lots of people pointing
the finger at her many people believed she planned it in advance (Katz 9). Also, cops
found a blade covered in ash, A hatchet had been discovered in the basement of the
Borden home, but its blade was clean and the handle had been broken off (Maranzani
2). Lizzie could have broken and cleaned the handle off the hatchet, and changed her
dress in 8 to 13 minutes (Katz10). Based on the evidence provided it makes the most
since that Lizzie Borden was in fact the murderer. Lizzie being one of the only ones in
the house adds to the questioning of Andrew and Abby Borden s
A Brief Note On Foot And Mouth Disease
Foot and mouth disease (FMD) is a highly contagious disease carried by viruses that
affects many types of livestock including cattle, sheep, hogs, and goats. It is known as
one of the problematic diseases in herds because it is so contagious, and can be both
acute and prolonged. When infected, the foot and mouth disease virus(FMDV)
propagates quickly and causes vesicular disease in the feet and mouth of the animal
(virologyjournal). The symptoms of FMD include fever, blisters on the feet and in the
mouth, weight loss, decrease appetite, lameness, reduced milk production, and possibly
blisters on teats ( Foot and mouth ). If not treated immediately, the virus can spread
quickly within the herd, result in high expenses to manage the disease, and occasionally
mortality. Foot and mouth diseasehas been reported in many countries, including those
that are more agriculturally developed and those that are not. In fact, in 2001 the
United Kingdom slaughtered 4 million animals to control the disease outbreak of that
time. FMD has also strained the import and export rate between countries because of
the fear and risk of contracting the disease. FMD is renowned as one of the most
important livestock diseases worldwide as it causes immense economical losses. FMD
was first reported in the United States in 1870, and since then there has been 8 other
reports of the disease. In 1914 the disease was first introduced in Michigan, where it then
dispersed to 22 other states including the
Remember The Titans Synthesis
Remember the Titans is a football movie that was filmed in the year 2000. Although
this movies main plot is surrounded by football it has a much deeper meaning than
just a game. Remember the Titans is based on the true story of coach Herman Boone
played by Denzel Washington and what he did for the young men of T.C. Williams
High School in the year 1971. Given the huge task of integrating the football team of a
small school in Virginia, Coach Boone and assistant coach Bill Yoast played by Will
Patton begin by introducing their two captains, Gerry Bertier and Julius Campbell.
News of the new head coach and integration of the school had sent the town into a
complete uproar. Having black students walk the halls with white students hadn t been
an option until now and to add to the tension of integration in the school current head
coach Bill Yoast was forced to step down to assistant after having a hall of fame worthy
career for the T.C. Williams Titans. Coach Herman Boone was replacing him in hopes

Instead of rolling over and allowing them to dictate the game they continue to fight
through adversity and are aided by coach Yoasts stern message he gives to the officials
showing his players that he will fight for them when they are treated unfairly. This
message that he sends gets the officials on the right path and begin to call the game
fairly and the titans win and proceed to the championship game. Co captain Gerry
Burtier gets caught up in the celebration and is involved in a severe car accident that
leaves him paralyzed from the waist down just a week before the state championship
game. The titans come together as a team battle through adversity one last time for their
captain and come out victorious and are crowned state
How Much Religion Is A Human Construct
Kumare as a Human Construct
This movie demonstrated how much religion is a human construct. Kumare made his
own religion by incorporating elements from other religions and coming up with his
own elements. His religion, however, had no power without his followers who gave life
to his teachings and ideas. The community gave life to a religion that would have been
powerless with the social construct provided by the community. When Vikram was
young, he would watch his grandmother praying and as an adult, he wondered if his
made up religion could provide people with that same peace. He incorporated meditation,
specifically his trademark blue light meditation, and his own form of yoga. He initially
brought his community together in the yoga studio, but he slowly expanded the places
they went and he helped them build strong bonds during their rituals.
Kumare as a Functional Religion
Kumare developed a religion that covered all three of the functions of religion that the
book mentions, providing comfort, and quelling dissatisfaction, strengthening the human
community, and assuring followers that there is a larger cosmic order. (CITE Pg5)
Being part of the community that Kumare created helped people in their daily lives by
giving them a sense of order and spirituality. He showed them how to continue the
practices outside of the studio and showed his followers that they were the way to their
own spirituality. For example, he helped one woman who felt that scuba diving was her

Microcontroller based DC motor Speed Conditioning and Monitoring System
Abstract: The proposed system is based on concept of monitoring and control of the
various speed of a DC motor. The speed of DC is monitor by optical decoder sensor
and which is being collcted on a microcontroller which will subsequently control the
DC motor through a motor driver circuit. The values of the speed also displayed on an
LCD. The DC motor speed can be set controlled manually using a keypad.(3) The
proposed project is based on the concept of measuring and displaying the speed of motor.
The system uses a hall sensor for sensing and optical encoder unit for speed (RPM)
measurement. A magnet attached on the shaft of the motor... Show more content on

The current flow through the motor drops as the rotational speed increases, and a free
spinning motor has very little current flow. It is only when a load is applied to the
motor that slows the rotor that the current draw through the motor increases. In an
experiment of this kind made on a motor with separately excited magnets, the
following figures were obtained: |Revolutions per minute |0 |50 |100 |160 |180 |195 |
|Amperes |20 |16.2 |12.2 |7.8 |6.1 |5.1 | Apparantly, if the motor had been helped on to
run at 261.5 revolutions per minute, the current would have been reduced to zero. In
the last result obtained, the current of 5.1 amperes was absorbed in driving the
armature against its own friction at the speed of 195 revolutions per minute. (6) D.C.
Motors: Direct current motors are used in many applications that require adjustable
speed. In uses requiring quick stops, a dc motor can minimize the size of a mechanical
brake or make it unnecessary. This is done by dynamic braking (motor generated
energy fed to a resistor grid), or by regenerative braking (motor generated energy
returned to the ac supply). DC motor speed can be controlled smoothly down to zero,
followed immediately by acceleration

The Qualities Of An Anglo Saxon Hero
Bravery. Honor. Intelligence. Loyalty. Sense of Duty. Selflessness. Sense of Justice.
Strength. Boasting. These are the common characteristics of an Anglo Saxon hero.
Anglo Saxon heroes display some or all of these attributes, which help distinguish them
as a hero. Much like Batman and Superman or other heros of modern day, Anglo Saxon
heroes protect the public against evil foes, or perhaps Villains. They act courageously
and selflessly, without seeking personal gain. Also, they possess an overwhelming sense
of duty to protect those in need. Furthermore, Superheros are loyal to those they serve,
whether it be their lord, or the Lord. With all these characteristics in mind, the character
of Beowulfcan clearly be seen as an Anglo Saxon hero. Specifically, his overwhelming
bravery, loyalty, and sense of duty establish him as an Anglo Saxon hero. First of all,
Beowulf is the pure embodiment of bravery. A man who drove five great giants into
chains, chased all of that race from the earth , and also swam in the blackness of night,
hunting monsters out of the ocean and killing them one by one , is clearly the bravest
man alive, bar none. Furthermore, even before he slayed Grendel, Grendel s mother, and
the Dragon, Beowulf already had a reputation as one of the bravest men in the word.
Then, while battling the three beasts we witness in Beowulf, he further shows his
bravery by killing Grendel with nothing but the strength in his fingers.
After that, he swims down through

Both stories were about a scientist trying to prove the the paranormal was real by taking people into a haunted house. But also there are so many things that they had in different and here are some things about the houses some similarities about the characters and differences etc. Some differences about the house are that, when we start reading the book that lady that clean the house Mrs. Dudley I think it was her name and she tell Eleanor and Theodora, and all of the other people that they visit the house, that anybody live around the house the closes that they live was six miles away because if they live close to the house something bad will happen that why they live six miles away. In the movie there was no leady that they clean the house there was no body there and there was houses around the house like across the street because all of the bad things just happen at the house inside or in the garden but not like outside like in the street or anything like that. Another interes thing that wasn t the same from the book to the movie was like in the book when they first enter to the house the door didn t close by themself I think Mrs. Dudley close the doors and, in the movie when annie enter to the house there was these water source and I think she made it to work again and the rest of the people say where is annie and she enter to the house and the door closed by it self. The Toronto Transit System And Municipal Transit Agency Over the past several years, Toronto has struggled to find new dedicated streams of revenue to fund its regional transit system, all while Metrolinx, the provincial transit agency is developing the province s Big Move plan in hopes of connecting the Greater Toronto and Hamilton Area transportation system. The province stopped funding the TTC s operating funds in 1996 and since then, the City of Torontohas relied on a subsidy from the city and fares to balance this. Later in 2006, Metrolinx was created by the Province of Ontario as the first Regional Transportation Agency for the GTHA and in 2016, Move the GTHA reveals a $30 billion funding gap which begs the questions of who should fund the regional transit system and by what mechanisms? It is very hard for a city as large as Toronto to keep up with its funding for regional transit without much efforts from the provincial or federal government. The Toronto Transit Commission (TTC) is falling behind on a massive deficit when funding its Operating Budget. Only two thirds of the TTC s Operating Budget are covered by fares. These fares generate about $1.1 billion of the TTC s $1.6 billion operating budget. The rest primarily comes from a city subsidy, which is $428 million, up from $411 million in 2013 according to Jennifer Palisoc (Palisoc, 2014). With the continuous struggle of efforts to get Toronto s transit system back up on its feet again, the Province of Ontario created Metrolinx; an organization

The defense market has experienced significant economic growth over the last decade due to large U.S. security spending in hopes to impact or end the global war on terrorism. The 9/11 attacks on the U.S. increased demand in the defense market while causing a decline in the airline industry. Airlines have suffered due to new security guidelines and a downturn in the... Zakheim and Kadish explain two decades ago, there were more than twenty prime contractors competing for defense contracts while today the government relies on just six contractors to build its defense systems. Zakheim and Kadish state, The system largely forgoes competition on price, delivery and performance and replaces it with a kind of design bureau competition . The report explains that firms such as Boeing and Lockheed Martin have operated in collaboration on several projects such as the Air Force s next generation bomber (Zakheim amp; Kadish, 2008). Collaboration of this nature suggests cooperative equilibrium between the firms to enhance their mutual payoff of outbidding competitors. With the defense market on the downturn pending major budget cuts over the next several years, more collaboration strategies are possible for firms to remain competitive. The existing procurement system encourages bargaining among the government and bidding firms. When budgets are allocated generously, demand is high and firms can set their prices higher. Budget cuts decrease demand and increase bargaining between buyer and seller. Security Industry reports budget deficits subject contracts to greater 3|Page scrutiny and tougher negotiations making contracts more difficult to obtain in the coming years (Security Industry, 2010). Defense firms are at the mercy of the defense budget. In times when the budget is maximized and demand increases,
  • 5. Modernism In Music Throughout the early twentieth century, music began to take on a new role as society started to progress and change. In society, music is an important part of culture and the forming of culture, where people can assert and preserve their histories and experiences when facing a change in social conditions. Modernism is defying convention to an extreme degree, disregarding boundaries completely in rhythm and tonality, opening up doors that would eventually redefine the notion of what constitutes music. America and Europe, pre and post WWI, both experienced drastic social changes and technological advances which all contributed to the progression of modernism in music. From segregation and the Great Immigration in America to the deconstruction of traditional culture in Europe, and even the shared rise popularity in folk musicin both countries, modernism announces itself as a prevalent and powerful voice in music which is seen through composers such as Schoenberg, Stravinsky, Copland, and Bartok. In Europe, modernism in music is vastly seen in Schoenberg, Stravinsky, and Bartok. At the end of the 19th century, traditional compositional rules and techniques were proving to be more of a strain in conveying extreme shades of emotion and meaning. While some composers decided to continue along the path of more traditional and accepted compositions, others decided that they needed to branch off in different directions. In London, 1902, Debussy introduced the concept of

Analysis Of Do Not Go Gentle Into That Good Night In Dylan Thomas poem Do Not Go Gentle into That Good Night, the main theme represents approaching death and how life should be lived to the fullest with no regrets. As for the technical aspects, there is a constant use of repetition, an ABA rhyme scheme, and no apparent shift. As for poetic devices, there are a lack of hyperboles and metaphors. The format of the poem is a villanelle, meaning it has a total of 19 lines with five tercets, followed by a concluding quatrain with 6 stanzas in total. • 8. Gm Vs Southwest Hedging Strategy Essay Financial risk is the risk a corporation faces due to its exposure to market factors such as interest rates, foreign exchange rates, commodities and stock prices. Financial risks for the most part, can be hedged due to the existence of large, efficient markets through which these risks can be transferred. This is unlike operating risk, which is associated with more manufacturing and marketing activities. Operating risk cannot be hedged because these risks are not traded. In GM s case they used a passive hedging policy in which they hedged 50% of all significant foreign exchange exposures arising from cash flows associated with ongoing business. Passive hedging is used by highly risk averse companies that would like to be completely ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Southwest is able to achieve a balance between hedging risk and the cost of hedging by hedging part of its overall exposure either through a long term contract or a derivative instrument, and keeping the remainder of the exposure un hedged so as to benefit from favorable market movements, either through exercise of options or deals in the spot market. Domestic airlines have a variety of hedging strategies available to them. These include using both over the counter and exchange traded derivatives. Options, including collar structures, and swaps are the primary derivatives used by airlines. Many, including Southwest have stated that they prefer over the counter derivatives to exchange traded futures because they are more customizable1. The ability to customize these contracts greatly facilitates the implementation of a dynamic hedging strategy, which is successfully used by Southwest. This strategy is based on the presumption that the oil price cycle moves in cycles rather than consistently in one direction. To implement a dynamic hedging strategy, a firm needs to vary the products over the oil price cycle. When oil is at the low point in the cycle, receive fixed swaps are used because the likelihood of further price declines is not considered as probable as price increases, and the swap contract allows the airline to lock in the relatively low price. In the mid range of the cycle, collars are used to lock in a specified range of prices, giving up potential

  • 11. How Beneficial Is Owning A Pet The general well being and overall state of happiness plays a significant role in the lives of humans every single day. For a psychologist especially, it is more than important to take note of a client s well being, happiness, and overall mood. Referring specifically to elders, they often have the tendency to feel lonely or disconnected to others the older that they get. Although there are multiple ways for elders to improve their happinesssuch as exercising, surrounding themselves with people that make them happy, having a well balanced diet or getting good sleep, there are other important factors that we often forget to take note of. As well as this, as humanbeings we often find ourselves creating bonds, or attachments with other people or even certain hobbies. We even crave the feeling, want or need of support from others that we often strive to look for and end up lacking to find. Although there is some focus on it, it is important to note just how beneficial owning a petcan be and how much of an impact it can create towards your own happiness as an elder in this world today, while also being the solution to many of these studies mentioned. Sharkin and Knox (2003) reviewed the subject of pet loss and issues and implications for the psychologist. They focus on the importance of psychologists to understand how significant pets can be in the lives of their clients. When referring to the effect of pet loss on older people specifically in this research paper, it is noted

There are many resources that humans and animal needs to survive; some of the most obvious resources come from the forests. Forests make up a large percentage of the globe. The forests have global implications not just on life but on the quality of it. Trees improve the quality of the air that species breath, determine rainfall and replenish the atmosphere. To begin, forest based industrialization is based on forest resources that are used to stimulate economic growth and development. One of the products that have been most important to human economies has always been wood. Wood is durable, light weight, easily worked, waterproof, and a good fiber source. Wood is used in almost every aspect of our lives, for building materials, living, and just surviving. We need wood to build our homes to live in and buildings in which we work and spend the other resource that comes from trees money . Studies show that 70% of the products that we use a day are made of some kind of wood. If we were to look around our homes and count all the items that are made of wood we would probably find that 60 percent are made of wood. Without wood humans and other species would never be able to survive. Another pro argument of deforestation is the issue of fuel wood in rural areas. The use of fuel wood in the growing cities contrasts strictly with the more familiar patterns of rural areas. The growth of energy used in rural household still dominates the energy budgets of many developing countries, especially in the poorer countries such as Nepal, Bangladesh, Ethiopia and Nigeria. Most fuel wood is used in the household. The concept of an energy transition, however, is central to any understanding energy in urban areas. As

It became the goal of the United States to stockpile weapons, to use in the event of a nuclear attack from the Soviet Un ion or other nuclear super power. A few years later, during the Nixon Presidency in 1968, the United States, USSR, and a number of other states signed the Nuclear Non proliferation Treaty. The NPT was designed to prevent the spread of nuclear weapons and technology from the super power states to the still developing states. (Winkler 1999, 182) In 1972, four years after NPT was signed and ten years after the Cuban missile crisis, the United States, in conjunction with the USSR, signed the ABM Treaty. The ABM treaty was designed to regulate the number of anti ballistic missile systems, or defense shields, of both the United States and the Soviet Union to two, and later agree ments brought that number down to one. (Winkler 1999, 187) It did nothing, however, to regulate the number of missiles a state could possess. During all this time, however, US Soviet relations remained tense. Rembrandt creates a more distinct separation between subject and background, while Lievens blurs his subject to the environment. Lievens however, smudges the edge of the face to the background and uses similar colors. The zone of transition between the subject and the background are blurred and start to dissolve into each other. Lievens brushstrokes are not as careful or clean as Rembrandt s. You have to let go at some point in order to move forward. Nelson Mandela helped his country cross the monkey bars from apartheid to democracy, from Once a left wing extremist, Mandela s 27 years in prison taught him that the only way his country would survive and thrive was if his people learned to forgive and move on. A willingness to forgive can be all it takes to unite a fiercely divided country. The new South African government, led by President Mandela, addressed the need for understanding but not for vengeance, a need for reparation but not for retaliation, a need for ubuntu but not for victimisation (Volmink 191). Ubuntu, a Bantu word meaning, I am because you are, expresses the concept that our humanity is inherently bound up with one another. Volmink, argues that we can never be complete as human beings as long as we are alienated from one another (191). As part of the beginning of the post apartheid era, Nelson Mandela and the African National Congress (ANC) established the Truth and Reconciliation Commission (TRC), which promoted reconciliation as an ideal, not only for nation building, but also for individual healing (Muiu 137). This idea for a safe environment in which both victims and perpetrators could vent and share their stories without judgement gave the commission it s power. It forms a link and transition between the writers of the romantic period and the literature of the 20th century. The 19th century is often regarded as a high point in British literature as well as in other countries such as France, the United States and Russia. Books, and novels in particular, became well known, and the Victorian novelist created a legacy of works with continuing appeal. Many novels were published in serial form, along with short stories and poetry, in such literary magazines as Household Words. Proof of Heaven Essay Proof of Heaven: A Neurosurgeon s Journey into the Afterlife Abigail Alvarado Rhetoric Composition English 1302 September 18, 2014 Abstract Eben Alexander is a neurosurgeon who believed for many years that when people explained their near death experiences it was just the hard wiring of the brain. Of course ,though, he had refined medical training. It wasn t until Alexander had caught a rare disease which caused him to fall into a coma and had a near death experience himself. Alexander talks about his journey towards the afterlife in his book which leads to many questions to everyone as to whether it really happened or if it was all just a hallucination. The paper talks about how he recounts what happened during his experience ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He describes her as a beautiful girl with high cheek bones and deep blue eyes...[g]olden brown tresses framed her lovely face (Alexander, 2012, p. 40). She was also riding on a butterfly wing, as he recalls, and it just seems to be a way a novelist would describe an angel guiding someone lost in heaven. There was nothing to make it sound different or stand out. It makes it hard to believe it s Alexander trying to prove heaven is real rather than just writing a story. Later on in the book Alexander talks about the core where he saw [b]ig, puffy, pink white [clouds] that showed up sharply against the deep blue black sky (p. 45). Everyone who thinks of heaven, thinks of clouds. It is not uncommon for anyone to describe heaven that way. It is very stereotypical and made it no different that anyone else s image of heaven. A sound, huge and booming like a glorious chant, came from above, and I wondered if the winged beings were producing it (Alexander, 2012, p. 45) is also another stereotype of what people say you d hear when you re in heaven. Again, not enough proof. There was a section where he mentions how he came into contact with God and received knowledge that was not taught but stored. It seemed that everyone who might have gone to church had heard the knowledge of what God was giving to Alexander. Maybe if he had gone more into depth and detail to what the knowledge he stored from his

However, eventually, the database would support all incoming and outgoing transfers. This new database would integrate information from both the Accorde System and the BETA System. The 3 systems would be able to communicate and relay both client and transfer information. This would alleviate any inaccurate information and the inefficiency of the entering of information. An example of the new process is as follows: 1.A client fills out transfer forms to request the transfer of five mutual funds. 2.The forms are delivered to LPL and received and imaged by the Accorde System. 3.An employee in the transfer department reviews the image of the transfer form and information is verified off of the BETA System. 4.Information such as client name, SS#, and LPL account info from BETA and Accorde is transmitted to the new database. 5.The mutual fund information (CUSIP and # of shares) is entered onto the new database by an employee. 6.The newly entered mutual fund information would be

To understand the phrase tragic flaw we can take it as Aristotle had stated it The tragic flaw is the most important part of the hero and the events that occur in the work is a reflection of that flaw. В– Aristotle. So just as in the case of Othello, Malcolm s tragic flaw is gullibility. Many people because of their personal magnetism respect both these men. Malcolm is highly respected by many because of his ability to get results and by the way he is able to gain followers with his rhetoric. Othello is revered because of his awesome military genius. Malcolm and Othello both have very high self confidence, which is shown by the way Malcolm argues beliefs and in the way Othello justifies his marriage to Desdemona. Since both Othello and Malcolm X came from humble and unsophisticated beginnings their judgment was somewhat hindered. In the play Othello Iago one of the main characters sees this in Othello the Moor is of a free and open nature that thinks men honest that but seem to be so. (1:3:55:442 443). Iago knew of Othello s weakness. He also knew Othello s innocence and baseness makes him susceptible to being undermined by people. Othello is clearly a person who believes appearances versus reality. The role of Iago in Othello s life can be compared to the role of Elijah Muhammad in Malcolm s life. Malcolm and Othello base their reactions and decisions solely on the advice of the one who ultimately brings about their end. In Othello case he doesn t even

Suspense in Bram Stoker s Epistolary Novel Dracula Suspense in Bram Stoker s Epistolary Novel Dracula Bram Stoker uses the epistolary narrative to create suspense in Dracula by drawing the reader into the personal lives (through the characters diary entries and letters) and allowing him to experience the events of the novel on an intimate level. Each character provides a first hand, first person perspective, unique for that specific character s sex, level of education, profession, and state in life, as well as for that character s ability to create an atmosphere of dread through description of the scene. This paper will show how the different characters use their own experiences to create suspense in Stoker s Dracula. The novel is subtitled a A Mystery Story, and each chapter is a portion of one of the characters journal, diary or letter, providing clues as to the nature of Dracula and how to thwart his evil intentions. The story begins with Jonathan Harker s journal, which is conveniently recorded in shorthand (1), giving the narrative a quick pace and a personal touch. Harker includes mental notes such as, Mem., get recipe for Mina, while noting the details of his dinner, which establishes his connections/relationships, status in life, etc., without much interrupting the narrative flow. Before the reader realizes it, he is immersed in the diarist s life. It is through Harker s journal that the reader is introduced to Dracula and his somewhat mysterious behavior. This subject relates to our unit of study because it shows how a primary consumer and other land ecosystems depend on the wildebeests to be able to flourish. This shows that producers could get their food from primary consumers in special cases and how other organisms benefit from the drowning of thousands of wildebeests. In the article it states that, an average 6,000 wildebeests drown each year in river crossing. Subalusky and her colleagues search to see how all that meat and bone affected the river ecosystem. There were many differences between the attitude of the US in World War 1, and their attitude in World War 2, mainly due to what happened in between the wars. Unlike World War 1, the second World War, was not about proving a point in the American s case, but instead revenge for what had happened in between. In the process, the attitude of the American people towards war changed dramatically from the end of World War 1, to the end of World War 2. This also included the great migration, which saw many african american moving the upper north states like New York, creating what was known as the harlem renaissance in Harlem, New York. A lot of the current big money places like LA and Chicago started their boom in the 20s. While many great things happened in the 1920s many questionable things also happened in the decade. For example, in 1924, the evil racists political group from the post civil war era, known as the Ku Klux Klan or the KKK, reorganized as a racist nativist group who opposed anyone who was not an american born white protestant. They successfully got the government to block immigrants from entering the country, as to lessen the fear of communism spreading. Lizzie Borden was accused for the murder of her father and stepmother. The childhood rhyme is technically false. One reason would be that the Borden case was never solved and another would be that Andrew, Lizzie s father, was whacked only 11 times and Abby, Lizzie s stepmother, was whacked 19 times. The mystery behind Andrew and Abby Borden can be summed up in two theories: Lizzie was the killer and there s no way she was the murderer. Now, While the death of Abby and Andrew Borden is brutal, it as yet to be solved. On the hot morning of August 4,1982 in Fall River, Massachusetts, two people were killed, many people pointed the finger at daughter of Andrew Borden, one of the people murdered on that hot morning (Bee 1). In addition, Lizzie s mother died when she was only three years old not long after, her father was soon married to Abby Gray, the other person killed that morning (King 1). A Brief Note On Foot And Mouth Disease Foot and mouth disease (FMD) is a highly contagious disease carried by viruses that affects many types of livestock including cattle, sheep, hogs, and goats. It is known as one of the problematic diseases in herds because it is so contagious, and can be both acute and prolonged. When infected, the foot and mouth disease virus(FMDV) propagates quickly and causes vesicular disease in the feet and mouth of the animal (virologyjournal). The symptoms of FMD include fever, blisters on the feet and in the mouth, weight loss, decrease appetite, lameness, reduced milk production, and possibly blisters on teats ( Foot and mouth ). If not treated immediately, the virus can spread quickly within the herd, result in high expenses to manage the disease, and occasionally mortality. Foot and mouth diseasehas been reported in many countries, including those that are more agriculturally developed and those that are not. In fact, in 2001 the United Kingdom slaughtered 4 million animals to control the disease outbreak of that time. FMD has also strained the import and export rate between countries because of the fear and risk of contracting the disease. FMD is renowned as one of the most important livestock diseases worldwide as it causes immense economical losses. FMD was first reported in the United States in 1870, and since then there has been 8 other reports of the disease. In 1914 the disease was first introduced in Michigan, where it then dispersed to 22 other states including the

  • 31. How Much Religion Is A Human Construct Kumare as a Human Construct This movie demonstrated how much religion is a human construct. Kumare made his own religion by incorporating elements from other religions and coming up with his own elements. His religion, however, had no power without his followers who gave life to his teachings and ideas. The community gave life to a religion that would have been powerless with the social construct provided by the community. When Vikram was young, he would watch his grandmother praying and as an adult, he wondered if his made up religion could provide people with that same peace. He incorporated meditation, specifically his trademark blue light meditation, and his own form of yoga. He initially brought his community together in the yoga studio, but he slowly expanded the places they went and he helped them build strong bonds during their rituals. Kumare as a Functional Religion Kumare developed a religion that covered all three of the functions of religion that the book mentions, providing comfort, and quelling dissatisfaction, strengthening the human community, and assuring followers that there is a larger cosmic order. (CITE Pg5) Being part of the community that Kumare created helped people in their daily lives by giving them a sense of order and spirituality. He showed them how to continue the practices outside of the studio and showed his followers that they were the way to their own spirituality. For example, he helped one woman who felt that scuba diving was her peace,

The values of the speed also displayed on an LCD. The DC motor speed can be set controlled manually using a keypad.(3) The proposed project is based on the concept of measuring and displaying the speed of motor. The system uses a hall sensor for sensing and optical encoder unit for speed (RPM) measurement. A magnet attached on the shaft of the motor... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The current flow through the motor drops as the rotational speed increases, and a free spinning motor has very little current flow. It is only when a load is applied to the motor that slows the rotor that the current draw through the motor increases. In an experiment of this kind made on a motor with separately excited magnets, the following figures were obtained: |Revolutions per minute |0 |50 |100 |160 |180 |195 | |Amperes |20 |16.2 |12.2 |7.8 |6.1 |5.1 | Apparantly, if the motor had been helped on to run at 261.5 revolutions per minute, the current would have been reduced to zero. In the last result obtained, the current of 5.1 amperes was absorbed in driving the armature against its own friction at the speed of 195 revolutions per minute. (6) D.C. Motors: Direct current motors are used in many applications that require adjustable speed. In uses requiring quick stops, a dc motor can minimize the size of a mechanical brake or make it unnecessary. This is done by dynamic braking (motor generated energy fed to a resistor grid), or by regenerative braking (motor generated energy returned to the ac supply). DC motor speed can be controlled smoothly down to zero, followed immediately by acceleration

  • 34. The Qualities Of An Anglo Saxon Hero Bravery. Honor. Intelligence. Loyalty. Sense of Duty. Selflessness. Sense of Justice. Strength. Boasting. These are the common characteristics of an Anglo Saxon hero. Anglo Saxon heroes display some or all of these attributes, which help distinguish them as a hero. Much like Batman and Superman or other heros of modern day, Anglo Saxon heroes protect the public against evil foes, or perhaps Villains. They act courageously and selflessly, without seeking personal gain. Also, they possess an overwhelming sense of duty to protect those in need. Furthermore, Superheros are loyal to those they serve, whether it be their lord, or the Lord. With all these characteristics in mind, the character of Beowulfcan clearly be seen as an Anglo Saxon hero. Specifically, his overwhelming bravery, loyalty, and sense of duty establish him as an Anglo Saxon hero. First of all, Beowulf is the pure embodiment of bravery. A man who drove five great giants into chains, chased all of that race from the earth , and also swam in the blackness of night, hunting monsters out of the ocean and killing them one by one , is clearly the bravest man alive, bar none. Furthermore, even before he slayed Grendel, Grendel s mother, and the Dragon, Beowulf already had a reputation as one of the bravest men in the word. Then, while battling the three beasts we witness in Beowulf, he further shows his bravery by killing Grendel with nothing but the strength in his fingers. After that, he swims down through
