Realism In Art And Art In The 19th Century
Realism began in France in the 1840 s. It was the first unconventional, anti institutional art movement.
It challenged Neoclassicism and Romanticism by diverting every ones attention to more social issues
which were brought by the disturbed and raging 19th century. In simpler words, Realism was, opposed
to the Romanticism ways of merely representing nature, an approach to art to position oneself in the
real , whether it was scientifically, morally, constitutionally, or even theoretically. When it comes to
theoretical beliefs, Realism incorporated the progressive aims of modernism. This was done through
pursuing new certainties, by reconsidering and capsizing customary systems of philosophies and
morals.
The realistic works developed with the introduction of photography. Through it, an invention of
representations was created and they looked accurately factual. ... Show more content on

Romantic emotionalism as well as classical naivety was banned entirely. From this era onwards, artists
felt the freedom to portray real life situations without aesthetics. Realism influenced impressionism
and many other contemporary art styles as it imitated a liberal modification in the prominence and
purpose of art overall. To this day, the characteristic style still manages to impact visual arts and thus
can be viewed as revolutionary. In the words Stokstad, Realism, reflected the positivist belief that art
should show unvarnished truth, and realists took up subjects that were generally regarded as not
important enough for a serious work of art . It depicted how the realm esteemed working men only for
the labor they achieved, rather than their social eccentricity. In short, Realism was a trigger to portray
the hardships of pastoral

The Decision Making And Judgement Calls
Most decisions are made with analysis, but some are judgment calls not susceptible to analysis due to
time or information constraints. Please write about a judgment call you ve made recently that couldn t
be analyzed. It can be a big or small one, but should focus on a business issue. What was the situation,
the alternatives you considered and evaluated, and your decision making process? Be sure to explain
why you chose the alternative you did relative to others considered. It feels as if we rarely have
situations with sufficient data to make decisions clear and absolute. Maybe those situations do occur
frequently, but because they are obvious, we don t even register them as decisions. Leadership hinges
on effective decision making and judgement calls. That includes gathering information for analysis
when available, but also recognizing how not to be caught in analysis paralysis. Effective leaders
constantly evaluate the situation, recognize the benefits, risks, and constraints and move forward.
Nothing impedes an organization more than inability to commit to a path forward. As Intel s facilities
organization worked to transition the entire structure of how we contracted and executed construction
projects on Intel s Ronler Acres campus, I made countless judgement calls. One in particular stands
out. I needed to decide if we would use cost based incentives as part of the contracting strategy and
execution processes, and if we decided to use them, how it would

Chicano Park History
The most significant number of outdoor mural art in the United States is just minutes away from
downtown San Diego, but if you ve visited the city, you ve probably driven over it without even
knowing it. San Diego s Chicano Park is hidden below the San Diego Coronado Bridge. More than 70
vibrantly colored murals adorn the support pylons of the freeway overpass. The walls pay tribute to
the history of the surrounding Mexican American and immigrant community called Barrio Logan. In
the 1960s, the community was further separated by the formation of the 5 Freeway and the high on
ramps of the San Diego Coronado Bridge. City leaders didn t include tenants in the preparation of
these projects that destroyed more than 5,000 houses and local businesses. ... Show more content on

The park s story is worth retelling: The bisecting of the Barrio Logan community by I 5 and the
Coronado Bridge, ending in a concrete roof supported by large gray pillars, replaced at least 1,500
families. With a society of 20,000 in its heyday in the 1940s, the historic neighborhood was rezoned as
industrial in the 1950s, ushering in junkyards, auto wrecking operations, plating and chemical
companies, and now, a legacy of environmental and air condition issues.
In 1967, community leaders began demanding a neighborhood park under the bridge. When the
California Highway Patrol started building a substation there, hundreds of residents formed a human
shield to stop construction. They displayed signs in Spanish with statements like, More houses, fewer
junkyards, and they hoisted a Chicano flag from a telephone pole.
The use of murals as a tool of political resistance is a long Mexican tradition. Imagine the park
without murals, said Tommie Camarillo, chairwoman of the Chicano Park Steering Committee, who
has been volunteering at the park for 48

Compare And Contrast Young Goodman Brown And The Lottery
Introduction Nathaniel Hawthorne s Young Goodman Brown and Shirley Jackson s The Lottery both
tell stories using literary techniques of tone, symbolism, and irony that help to convey stories that
leave the reader baffled by their ending. Although Hawthorne and Jackson utilize these literary
techniques in a different way, both of the stories end with a sense of darkness.
Tone
Hawthorne and Jackson have set different tones for their stories. Nathaniel Hawthorne creates a tone
that is somber and serious throughout most of the story of Yong Goodman Brown . The story tells of a
man, Goodman Brown, discovering evil. Even though Goodman Brown has apprehension about going
on the journey in the forest, he allows his curiosity to get the best of him and decides to attend the evil
ceremony in the forest. The tone of the story corresponds with the action occurring in the plot as one
of somberness. Brown goes along in his journey expecting something evil to take place. After learning
the nature of evil, he begins to feel that he is constantly surrounded by evil. This changes his attitude
from his background of piety and faith to a dark place that suspects evil in everything including his
wife. Unlike Young Goodman Brown , the tone of The Lottery begins with an anticipation of ... Show

He has lost his faith and has taken on a life of darkness and unrest because he is never sure whether
the events of what happened in the forest were reality or imagined. From that point on he is never at
peace because he is always expecting evil. And he is then depicted as a man who never has happiness
with his beloved Faith , that is his wife and his actual faith in God, or in any other thing in his life.

Pentecostal Movement Its Impact Among the Dalits and...
I. Introduction
The prime focus of this paper is to explore the modern Pentecostal or charismatic movement and its
impacts among the Dalits and the tribal in India. In this paper the presenter will also try to bring out a
brief origins and historical development of Pentecostalism, in order to understand the movement and
its impact on the Dalits and the tribal in India.
1. Etymology of the term Pentecostal
The term Pentecostal is derived from the Greek word pentekosté which literally means fifty . It is the
Greek name for the Jewish festival known as the Feast of Weeks in the Old Testament, which
celebrates the fiftieth day after Passover observances. The New Testament used the term to refer to the
established Jewish feast. However, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
After the Azusa Street revival on April 1906, Azusa Street soon became the Mecca for thousands of
visitors around the world. The people who visited this place went back to their homelands spread this
new experience and spread the Pentecostalism to other parts of the world and formed Pentecostal
churches. From the Azusa Street revival in Los Angeles, Pentecostalism spread rapidly around the
world and began its advance toward becoming a major force in Christendom.
5. Pentecostalism Movement in India
We have observed the modern Pentecostal movement in the 20th century that sparked out of the
revivals that took place at Azusa Street, Los Angeles, which spread rapidly to the ends of the earth.
Most of the scholars traced back the origin of Pentecostalism to the Azusa Street revival in 1906.
However, it is not yet firmly established as to when the Pentecostalism started in India because prior
to the coming of Pentecostal missionaries in the 20th century there were Pentecostal like events in the
history of Christianity in India.
According to Gary McGee, the eminent historian of Assemblies of God, Pentecostalism had already
established itself in India long before word of Azusa reached the subcontinent. He validated by
showing the documentary evidence that Pentecost, with all the associated phenomena, came

Taking a Look at MapReduce
With the rapid development of the high speed internet and information technology, information
products and thus promote more widespread use of the digital data is increasingly dramatically.
Internet provides convenience to make the people change their habits of the past, by changing the
habits and then develop a cloud computing technology, which can be connected in series and use a lot
of computers, distributed computing and parallel computing, rapid processing of massive data, so
greatly enhance the efficiency of operation processing.
However, cloud computing has gone through several important stages and gradually formed, it is not a
new technology but it does inherit a standalone computing, parallel computing, technology and
development of distributed computing and grid computing. Leaving the cloud computing gradually
becomes a new area.
MapReduce is a distributed computing environment provides a framework for the design of a parallel
computing, in order to simplify the development of multi tasking applications. For parallel processing,
the MapReduce design concept is quite suitable for use with particle swarm algorithm with parallel
computing concept combined. Therefore, this study will use Hadoop platform, raised MRuPSO

England, France, and Spain. At the mature age of fifty three, he married his young 16 year old niece.
This sexual pervasiveness toward young females were reflected in his work. He used his niece as an
inspiration for the beautiful female figures in many of his paintings. Five years before his death in
1935, Rubens purchased an estate outside of the Belgian city of Antwerp. He used the surrounding
landscape as an influence in his later paintings. After producing 8 children and many great works of
art, Rubens passed away in 1640 due to complications of heart stemming from chronic gout.
Abduction of the Daughters of Leucippus by Per Paul Ruben is an oil painting from 1617. Both young
girls have elegant fabric encompassing the back of their legs. Other than the fabric, the girls are
completely nude. Their skin tone is very light, as if they have not seen much sun. Neither girl is
wearing any shoes on their feet. The girl positioned closest to the ground has a golden blonde braid of
hair hanging from her head. The Girl on top has beautifully curled hair. She also has a white cloth

Do You Think That the Right to Life Entails a Right to Die...
I am going to answer these two questions in this essay. They are Do you think that the right to life
entails a right to die under certain circumstances? and Should the laws be changed to grant a universal
right to voluntary euthanasia? . In this essay, I am going to give reasons using ethical theories to
justify these questions.
Euthanasia
Euthanasia is the act of a physician or other third party ending a patient s life in response to severe
pain and suffering. Euthanasia can be classified into three types. They are voluntary euthanasia, non
voluntary euthanasia and involuntary euthanasia. Involuntary euthanasia is the action that takes the

Essay on The Bill of Rights
The Bill of Rights is a list of limitations on the power of the government. Firstly, the Bill of Rights is
successful in assuring the adoption of the Constitution. Secondly, the Bill of Rights did not address
every foreseeable situation. Thirdly, the Bill of Rights has assured the safety of the people of the
nation. Successes, failures, and consequences are what made the Bill of Rights what they are today.
Firstly, the Bill of Rights has guaranteed the adoption of the Constitution. James Madison proposed
the Bill of Rights to the First Federal Congress on June 8, 1789 (Primary Documents 1). The First
Federal Congress then proposed the twelve amendments to the constitution to the state legislatures
(Constitutional Politics in Ohio 1). The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
An agreement was finally made to create the Bill of Rights to help secure ratification of the
Constitution itself. Secondly, the Bill of Rights did not address every foreseeable situation. One failure
of the Bill of Rights was the first amendment of the original Bill of Rights. The amendment concerned
the number of constituents for each Representative and was never ratified. It said that once the House
has one hundred members, it should not go below one hundred, and once it reached two hundred, it
should not go below two hundred (Mount 1). Another failure was The Anti Title Amendment. This
amendment said that any citizen who accepted or received any title of nobility from a foreign power,
or who accepted without the consent of Congress any gift from a foreign power, by would no longer
be a citizen (Mount 1). Basically, this said that if someone received or accepted something from a
foreign power, that person would no longer be a citizen. The Anti Title Amendment was submitted to
the States in 1810 and was ratified by only twelve states, the last being in 1812 (Mount 1). Thirty eight
states are required to ratify to add an amendment. The Slavery Amendment was another failure of the
Bill of Rights. This amendment was not ratified because the House did not want any amendment to be
made to the Constitution which would authorize or give to Congress the power to abolish or interfere,
within any state, with the domestic institutions thereof, including that of

Funding Tender Of Cash Value Benefits
Several years ago, Texas WIC formed operational and technical workgroups to discuss the feasibility
of adding split tender of Cash Value Benefits (CVB) as optional functionality for Smartcard WIC to
enable WIC clients to use the full amount of CVB prescribed to them. The technical workgroup
recommended another feature, benefit reversal, be added for situations where WIC clients didn t have
the additional funds available to purchase items that would be split tendered with WIC benefits in the
transaction. This functionality was already available in online WIC but FNS requirements restricted
the process of adding benefits to the WIC card during the development and acceptance of Smartcard
WIC design. In fact, there were no point of sale ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Around the same time, the Smartcard states released updated specifications and test scripts. The
X9.131 standard was adopted by the X9 committee in early 2015 and published through ANSI.
As the WIC stakeholders were doing the work necessary to prepare developers for the split tender
mandate, the credit card industry was also mandating changes in the retail world. Retailers would have
to implement all changes necessary to handle chip and PIN EMV cards prior to October 1, 2015 or
assume the liability for all fraudulent transactions where the mag stripe was swiped on an EMV
capable card. As developers scrambled to meet this deadline (of which many failed), the
implementation dates continued to slip which also delayed development efforts for the WIC benefit
reversal development. As of April 2016, many retailers can still not accept an EMV chip card.
Texas WIC was notified by Kroger on April 15, 2016 that the software delivery for split tender and
benefit reversal would be delayed until early 2017. There is concern because they will not meet the
extended deadline mandated by USDA FNS and will not be compliant with the terms of the WIC
Vendor Agreement in the Smartcard WIC states that they do business.
Texas and the other Smartcard states must now determine a course of action on how to respond to
Kroger (and others that may have similar issues but have not notified us yet). One option would be to

My Reflection On My Parents Instilled
My parents instilled in me the importance of reading since a very early age. We formed a nightly
routine of reading every night before bed as soon as I started learning the basics of reading. I enjoyed
every moment of this; it was my favorite part of the day. The first book I was able to read on my own
was One Fish Two Fish Red Fish Blue Fish by Dr. Seuss. The feeling of success I had after this
accomplishment is as clear as day and I can still see myself as a five year old beaming with joy when I
could finally read a book without assistance. In grade school, I was never the one who was passionate
about reading. However, when it came time to write a story, I was excited and even wrote stories on
my own. In third grade, my friends and I would write fictional stories during lunchtime and present
them to our teacher after recess. I can still remember the sense of pride we felt when we saw the
surprised and proud looks on our teacher s face. It made us want to write more and more. But years
went on, and I still never formed a fondness for recreational reading. I ve been assigned more than
five books a year in the past; some would catch my interest, but never enough to pull me in as much as
to read in my spare time. There were rare occasions when I was really pulled into a book that was
assigned to me. To this day I do not know if that was because of the mere thought that I was not
willingly reading the book, or just that I did not have the patience for it. All

The Investigation Of Movement And Its Effect On Football
When you toss a football to one of your companions out in the back yard, you are applying material
science ideas. You need to make changes for various variables, similar to wind, separation and weight
of the ball. The more distant away the harder you need to toss it with the end goal it should get to him.
These computations that happen in your mind is every one of the piece of material science, you simply
don t have any acquaintance with it on the grounds that it easily falls into place. Material science is the

Asian Stereotypes Research Paper
According to Oxford dictionary, stereotype is a widely held but fixed and oversimplified image or idea
of a particular type of person or thing. Stereotypes found in our society are based on gender, race,
social class etc. It is not necessary for stereotypes to be right all the time; after all they are just
generalizations made by our ancestors and as the time changes people change. The power of
stereotypes can be felt when a person lives in minority. Being an Asian living in a white country, I
have heard a lot of comments based on my race. From other races, social media and TV shows, I
encountered 3 stereotypes this week.

The Importance Of African Culture In Chinua Achebe s...
Chinua Achebe s most well known novel Things Fall Apart was defined by many as a modern piece of
African literature that was truly African. It became a major contribution to literature around the world.
The novel revolves around an Ibo village in Nigeria. The inclusion of African culture, such as the
language, stories, and way of life, create depth and dimension and are essential to the telling of the Ibo
story by Achebe. The certain Ibo words included in the novel help develop a taste for true African
culture. Without these words, Achebe would not have been able to explain himself as well as he did.
The words that are used in the english language differ greatly from the words used in Ibo language.
Achebe illustrates this when he writes, That was how Okonkwo first came to know that agbala was
not only another name for a woman, it could also mean a man who had taken no title (Achebe 13). In
this piece from the novel, it demonstrates that the special African word has a greater meaning than any
English word ever could. If Achebe were to just say the word woman in place of the word agabala,
many readers may become confused as to what he means. The word choice establishes what true
African culture is. The author demonstrates this principle of the difference of language on many
occasions throughout the novel such as, This man told him that the child was an ogbanje, one of those
wicked children who, when they died, entered their mothers wombs to be born again (Achebe 77) and

She then has the daringness to break away (Alvarez 101) and leave the dance. No one is supposed to

up her strength and bravery as we move along in the novel. In the final chapter of the novel, Minerva

China s Outbound Direct Investment
The type of China s outbound direct investment has also evolved over the years. In the 1980s and
1990s, China s ODI was largely undertaken by state owned enterprises (SOEs) which focused on
acquiring assets in natural resources, infrastructure and logistics (Rosen Hanemann, 2009). This type
of ODI was used to meet the demand of a growing China that needed commodities such as oil, iron,
timber, and cement to develop its infrastructure and provide the resources needed for its cities to
quickly urbanize (Rosen Hanemann, 2009). There are not ample amounts of these commodities in
China, thus Chinese resource firms turned abroad to secure supplies of these natural resources through
mining and other extraction investments (Rosen Hanemann, 2009).
In the past five years, however, China s outbound direct investment has entered a new era as Chinese
investment interest has shifted from targeting resource rich developing countries to advanced
economies (Hanemann Huotari, 2015). Though energy is still a targeted industry, Chinese firms are
eager to acquire advanced manufacturing assets that allow them to modernize technology and move
up the value chain (Hanemann Lysenko, 2013, p.1). This has led to increased Chinese investment in
developed economies, including the United States and Europe, in sectors like high tech, modern
service assets and infrastructure (Hanemann Lysenko, 2013). Chinese direct investment in the United

Importance Of Creative Writing Poetry
Now class this year as part of the first semester you will be writing a collection of poetry. There will
be four poems all in different genres in your collection by the end of the semester...
Oh no. Oh no no no. I cannot write a poem. I don t even like reading poems. How in the world am
supposed to write one, no scratch that four! I can t write four poems! With all this new information my
chest started to feel tight. My mind was spinning trying to figure out how I was going to do this. How
am I not going to fail this class? I cannot write poetry.
Creative Writing class: before the class. When I started my sophomore year of high school I was
already ahead of the game. With two years of high school English under my belt I was ready for what
was next. At first it seemed like I had two options, American Literature or British Literature. With two
English classes done and the knowledge that I had two more remaining ahead of me American or
British Literature did not look all that appealing. I did not love literature classes all that much. They
were fine but I would much rather read for pleasure and not analyze what I read. However, I still
needed two more English credits. This is when I remembered that I had some more options that were
not quite as well known. I remembered that there was also a Creative Writing class that I could take. I
thought that would not be just another literature class. Sure it will be challenging but it could not be
too hard. It sure

How Does Technology Influenced Popular Culture
In this essay the topic popular culture in line with technology will be discussed between the time
periods of 1945 until present day. Technology can be described as machinery and devices developed
from scientific knowledge, and is the branch of knowledge that deals with engineering or the applied
sciences. The essay will cover what was popular during these eras, what had influenced technology
throughout the time zones and what the positives and negatives of technology were at those times.
In 1945 to the 1950s the main influence of this era was World War 2. This influence led to advances in
technology through weaponry during the war. An example of this weaponry includes the creation of

Flex Crew Essay
In a large city, full of diverse people, finding a musical performance is not hard to come by. Luckily,
as I was searching online for different performances I ran across The Flex Crew performing at Skully
s music diner. I have been to Skully s once before to watch a folk band perform. The atmosphere was a
lot different than when we saw The Flex Crew. Obviously, the genre of music was a lot different,
along with the atmosphere of the crowd. I was very surprised by the number of people in the bar that
evening. Mostly, because the performance started at 11PM and the world series was on. On top of this,
online their website said the show began at 10PM, but like a very great band they came out at their
own pace. In the meantime, there was a DJ performing to keep the crowd alive. The Flex Crew is a
reggae band from the Columbus area. After doing a little research I learned they are known as the best
reggae band in the Midwest.
A friend and I went to Skully s Music Diner on Sunday night to watch The Flex Crew. Their band
consisted of seven members, and they all varied on the different type of instruments. Some were
strictly on vocals, while others were on guitars, drums, pianos, etc. On top of this, the band was very
diverse in regards to their playing and singing. Yes, there was a main guitarist and a main singer, but
throughout the songs they all grabbed different instruments and sang different pieces of the songs. I
also learned they originated from Columbus and have been

The Effects Of Pollution In China
When you walk into a store and pick up a few manufactured items, odds are they were produced in
china. That being said, it is safe to say that china is a global leader in manufacturing and international
exports. But what does this mean for china and its residents? In recent years, its population has seen
that it means increased pollution as well as health risks. As China has become more globalized, it s
major cities have shot up, and pollution has gone through the roof. Resulting from the industrial
revolution, China and its cities have both grown and been destroyed.
Shanghai, for example, Chinas main center for world trade is the wealthiest as well as the largest city
in china. As the industry in the city has grown, the pollution has followed right along. The city is
Chinas busiest cargo and container ports meaning there is high traffic of container ships polluting the
air. Recent reports tell us that an estimated ninety percent of Shanghais pollution stems from motor
vehicle emissions, coal burning and the heavy amount of industry that takes place.
For the residents of the China, the pollution is a thick smog draping the city that is only thickening by
the moment. This has caused many health risks for residents, increase in major respiratory issues, and
instilled a fear in residents to go outside. When you take a look at the population of china, you don t
see people playing outside or sunbathing, you see them waking around with masks on their face in

The Compact Theory And Its Impact On The Federal And...
The Compact Theory, which mostly designed by Québec Nationalist, indeed, has been the impact on
the federal and provincial relations. Prior to 1867 constitutions, there was not a central or federal
government; it was only English and French speaking people in Canada. In other word, the 1867 was
basically an agreement between English and French people in Canada. Provincial rights and federal
provincial relations has also many conflicts which began very early after the 1867 Constitutions. The

This is a country of different nations and each nation allowed a different territory. Under the BNAAct
those expansive matters fittingly treated nationally, like defence and post office, were under the
federal government, while controls over property, local issues, districts, and most private law matters
went to the provinces. The setting of the constitution was a hierarchy system from the colonial office
to provincial legislatures . The compact theory lets us believe, that the provincial legislature were the
privilege voice and the means of the expression of the people of those provinces. The federal
government does not represent a voice of Ontarian or people of Québec. Most Canadian, believe that
provinces represent more closely the interest of each their own people than the federal government
does.
The founder of BNAAct created two levels of governments out of political expediency, as a political
convenience. They could not have two countries, but rather, they could have two levels of government
instead. The problem is that by creating two levels of government, the British did not realize that they
are going to give an objective, tangible structure that can be the base of compact theory. After
Confederation, Québec premiers Honoré Mercier and Oliver Mowat allied to built the strongest record
of provincial rights advocacy . Both premiers advocated for compact theory which compared the BNA
Act to a settlement that could be changed only by the unanimous assent

It first does something to the hearts and souls of those committed to it. It gives them new self respect;
it calls up resources of strength and courage they did not know they had . (King) The conflicts met
between the Civil Rights Movement protesters and the white people of the South were incredibly

Essay About Summer Camp
Summer Camp
It was summer of 2013 and it was my first time traveling alone. I was going to Champéry,
Switzerland. I felt excited because it s a part of the world which I haven t visited before. Going to the

walked to there the scenery was breathtaking. It was so green and surrounded with mountains where
you can see white peaks because of the snow. You can see the cows wandering around on the hills and
hear their jiggling bells.
As I reached the camp, the manager was there greeting the new arrivals and the place we were staying
at was this big 4 floor wooden house. The staff there were so friendly and welcoming. Everyone there
was from different parts of the world. In the first day, they gave us a chance to go around and socialize

Summary Of The Reclaiming The American Dream Report
In the Reclaiming the American Dream report (AACC, 2012), seven recommendations were suggested
to meet the needs of the students, as well as having a strong community college system. Hence, these
recommendation address redesigning students educational experiences, reinventing institutional roles,
and resetting the system to create incentives for students and institutional triumphs.
Recommendation One A section of recommendation one is to increase completion rates of students
earning community college credentials (certificates and associate degrees) by fifty percent by 2020.
(AACC, 2012 p. 26). Although recommendation one is certainly obtainable, completing the goal by
2020 is doubtful. As an administrator, in order to see a goal this large come to manifestation, everyone
has to get on the bus, and asking the same question who instead of what then, and only then will a goal
this large will manifest ( Collins, 2001). However, utilizing particular strategies to accomplish the goal
will help toward achieving the goal. In doing that, students would be served more effectively and
more efficiently, because staff and faculty would be more intentional regarding the service rendered.
Affective academic advising is an essential and sure way to promote students retention (O Banion,
1997). In addition, using strategies to construct coherent, structured pathways to complete degrees,
promote transfers from community colleges to four year institutions, and to assist students

Essay on Hospitality in The Hebrew Scriptures
To welcome the other, the friend or the stranger, is a fundamental aspect of human society, friendship,
love and life. It is the intersection of two lives, an event that can fundamentally alter the paths of all
those involved. This importance within the basic functioning of human life makes the recognition of
hospitality as a central theme of the Hebrew Scriptures an unsurprising reality. With this in mind then,
through this essay we will examine the understanding of hospitality laid out in the canonical scriptures
of the Hebrew Bible. Through exploring the events of Abraham s meeting guests in Genesis 18, the
text of terror in Judges 19 in which hospitality is violated and the story of the book of Ruth, we will

These entwined moments of welcome add to the already high significance societies place upon
hospitality by alluding to a divine presence among those who meet, reinforcing the importance of this
practice for those who attempt to follow the Hebrew Faith.
Perhaps on of the most important occurrences of the practice of hospitality in the Hebrew Scriptures,
and identified by some sources as paradigmatic , the encounter of Abraham with three strangers in
Genesis 18 reflects the divinely entwined hospitality mentioned earlier. In this account, the patriarch
Abraham is seen as offering the idealized fulfillment of true hospitality through the overwhelming
nature of his actions and offerings. From the beginning of the story, we see Abraham go out of his way
to greet and welcome the guest, from the initial running to meet them before bowing in their presence,
through to the offer of bread and the reality of a far greater feast, Abraham spares nothing in his
encounter with the strangers. These actions take on further meaning when referenced in light of the
readers awareness that one of these strangers is The Lord (Gen 18:1). Through the introduction of the
divine character, and this character s acceptance of Abraham s hospitality , a paradigm is established
in the story that is found throughout the rest of the Hebrew Scriptures. Because of the paradigmatic
model of

Technological Advancements During The First World War
A nation s ability to fight a modern war is as good as its technological ability. An English inventor
who was of great importance in the invention of the turbojet said these words. I partly agree with him,
as technology is the basis of most aspects of war. If a nation were to fight a war without the use of
technology it would fight with sticks and stones. Technological innovations in the First World War
(WW1) have led to much of the technology that we have today, ranging form the various weapons
modern armies are equipped with to the radios used for communication. If something is significant
then it has an important influence on a thing, such as an event, that will happen in the future. In this
way, did the technological innovations in WW1, such as gas, communications and the machine gun,
not only have an effect on the outcome of the war but also have an effect on how our world is shaped
today?
One technological innovation of the war was the use of poison gases, such as mustard gas. The use of
gas in WW1 was initially of huge importance as it was thought to be the weapon to break the
stalemate. During the war, Gas was a horrific weapon, which had the capability to inflict life
endangering injuries, but as the war drew on, the technology for preventing its effects, such as gas
masks, were invented and improved. Gas in the latter parts of the war was not released from canisters
but was fired in gas filled artillery shells, which led to more accurate and devastating

Communicating Through Numbers in Toni Morrison s Beloved...
Communicating Through Numbers in Beloved
Humanity uses numbers as a way to communicate beyond words, evoking ideas more readily than
words alone are able to. All religions and cultures have significant numbers that communicate an
essence or idea more quickly and completely than words can. It is in this manner that Toni Morrison
uses numbers in Beloved. Significant numbers occur starting with the first symbols of the text and the
words on the pages before the body of the text starts.

third one is dead. Numbers 1, 2, and 4 remain. Another number that stands alone in its significance is

Rather than tell Sethe with words that trying to kill her children was inhuman, Paul D uses numbers:
You got two feet, Sethe, not four (165). There are thirty women that arrive to remove Beloved. Thirty
is a symbol of justice and order, according to Marianne Schimmel. When schoolteacher arrives with
his party, they are described as the four horsemen (148). In fact, the only time a number occurs by
itself as a sentence is to describe them: All the while it was coming down the road. Four. Riding close
together, bunched up like, and righteous (157). Each of these is a powerful symbol, though none of
these numbers recur in the text, at least not with these meanings.
Two is duality, a pair, a division. It is also a unity, two halves of the same whole. Sex is expressed in
many cultures as a duality, the yin and yang, father sky and mother earth. In Beloved, twos, fours, and
even twenties occur in situations related to sex and children. Baby Suggs has eight children (209), four
girls, four boys. Sethe has four. Two boys, two girls. 124 has two stories, and Sethe and Paul D have
sex on the second floor. At Mrs. Garner s wedding, they ate four sheep (59). From the two buckets of
blackberries he picked, Stamp Paid put two into the mouth of four week old Denver (170). At Baby
Suggs revival, after talking about your life holding womb and your life giving private parts, the crowd

The War On Drugs in the USA Essay
The War On Drugs in the USA One of the most explosive issues in the current American political
climate is illegal drug use. Drug abuse is intimately connected to problems like crime, economic
discrimination, and race relations, and is a topic of great controversy for many Americans. The
campaign to stamp out illegal drug use is called the war on drugs because it pinpoints the need to
crack down on drug dealers, arrest users, and generally pursue an enormously expensive law
enforcement agenda. The war on ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Africa Americans comprise 12.2% of the population and 13% of drug users, but 38% of those arrested
for drug offenses, and 59% if those convicted are Africa Americans. The war on drugs is taking a toll
on low income, minority families, adding to the obstacles between them and economic success. A lot
of poor youths turn to illegal drug use and the illegal drug trade because they are looking for a better
life. If we use the money spent on fighting the illegal drug trade to educate these poor youths we
would give them a way to gain economic and social success. They would not have to enter the illegal
drug trade looking for a way out of the slums.
Drugs are an issue of government and political debate. Lower income families will deal drugs trying
to make a better life for themselves, but instead end up being addicted and committing crimes to feed
their habit. In the United States 9% of whites live in poverty, compared with the 31% of blacks living
in poverty. Because of this percent of blacks living in poverty there are more involved in illegal drug
use and sales. This makes the police more skeptical when they see a black person in a place they think
he shouldn t be.
The racial disproportionate nature of the war on drugs is not just horrible on the black Americans. It
contradicts faith in the principles of justice and equal protection. The

The Pros And Cons Of The Foster Care System
When we look at a foster care kid we don t really think much we just feel bad for them. We don t
really think much about the system and how it is bad or good, we just know that this person lost their
family. But there is a lot of things wrong with the foster care system. The group homes, there are far
too many kids living in homes that is supposed to be temporary. Foster care cruelty, many kids in
foster care witness abuse. Ageing out of the system, many kids who age out of the system have no clue
on what to do. Unresolved grief and loss, many kids put up with grief that no one helps them with that
can lead to many other problems.
More than 20,000 American children were placed in a group home in 2013. The children in these
group homes are put in there for long unneeded periods, roughly one in seven of the 57,000 were
placed in a group home rather than a foster home and about 23,000 of these kids have no documented
clinical or behavioral need that might warrant placing a child outside a family. Children in group
homes children are more likely to have lower test scores which leads to a lower risk of graduating
from high school and more than twice as likely to be arrested. If you think that s bad, group homes
cost seven to ten times more than placing a child with a family. That s seven to ten times more of what
your tax payments go to.
When you re a foster kid you never know what kind of foster parent you are going to get. Who knows
maybe you will get lucky and get a

  • 2. Realism In Art And Art In The 19th Century Realism began in France in the 1840 s. It was the first unconventional, anti institutional art movement. It challenged Neoclassicism and Romanticism by diverting every ones attention to more social issues which were brought by the disturbed and raging 19th century. In simpler words, Realism was, opposed to the Romanticism ways of merely representing nature, an approach to art to position oneself in the real , whether it was scientifically, morally, constitutionally, or even theoretically. When it comes to theoretical beliefs, Realism incorporated the progressive aims of modernism. This was done through pursuing new certainties, by reconsidering and capsizing customary systems of philosophies and morals. The realistic works developed with the introduction of photography. Through it, an invention of representations was created and they looked accurately factual. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Romantic emotionalism as well as classical naivety was banned entirely. From this era onwards, artists felt the freedom to portray real life situations without aesthetics. Realism influenced impressionism and many other contemporary art styles as it imitated a liberal modification in the prominence and purpose of art overall. To this day, the characteristic style still manages to impact visual arts and thus can be viewed as revolutionary. In the words Stokstad, Realism, reflected the positivist belief that art should show unvarnished truth, and realists took up subjects that were generally regarded as not important enough for a serious work of art . It depicted how the realm esteemed working men only for the labor they achieved, rather than their social eccentricity. In short, Realism was a trigger to portray the hardships of pastoral ... • 3. The Decision Making And Judgement Calls Most decisions are made with analysis, but some are judgment calls not susceptible to analysis due to time or information constraints. Please write about a judgment call you ve made recently that couldn t be analyzed. It can be a big or small one, but should focus on a business issue. What was the situation, the alternatives you considered and evaluated, and your decision making process? Be sure to explain why you chose the alternative you did relative to others considered. It feels as if we rarely have situations with sufficient data to make decisions clear and absolute. Maybe those situations do occur frequently, but because they are obvious, we don t even register them as decisions. Leadership hinges on effective decision making and judgement calls. That includes gathering information for analysis when available, but also recognizing how not to be caught in analysis paralysis. Effective leaders constantly evaluate the situation, recognize the benefits, risks, and constraints and move forward. Nothing impedes an organization more than inability to commit to a path forward. As Intel s facilities organization worked to transition the entire structure of how we contracted and executed construction projects on Intel s Ronler Acres campus, I made countless judgement calls. One in particular stands out. I needed to decide if we would use cost based incentives as part of the contracting strategy and execution processes, and if we decided to use them, how it would ... Chicano Park History The most significant number of outdoor mural art in the United States is just minutes away from downtown San Diego, but if you ve visited the city, you ve probably driven over it without even knowing it. San Diego s Chicano Park is hidden below the San Diego Coronado Bridge. More than 70 vibrantly colored murals adorn the support pylons of the freeway overpass. The walls pay tribute to the history of the surrounding Mexican American and immigrant community called Barrio Logan. In the 1960s, the community was further separated by the formation of the 5 Freeway and the high on ramps of the San Diego Coronado Bridge. City leaders didn t include tenants in the preparation of these projects that destroyed more than 5,000 houses and local businesses. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The park s story is worth retelling: The bisecting of the Barrio Logan community by I 5 and the Coronado Bridge, ending in a concrete roof supported by large gray pillars, replaced at least 1,500 families. With a society of 20,000 in its heyday in the 1940s, the historic neighborhood was rezoned as industrial in the 1950s, ushering in junkyards, auto wrecking operations, plating and chemical companies, and now, a legacy of environmental and air condition issues. In 1967, community leaders began demanding a neighborhood park under the bridge. When the California Highway Patrol started building a substation there, hundreds of residents formed a human shield to stop construction. They displayed signs in Spanish with statements like, More houses, fewer junkyards, and they hoisted a Chicano flag from a telephone pole. The use of murals as a tool of political resistance is a long Mexican tradition. Imagine the park without murals, said Tommie Camarillo, chairwoman of the Chicano Park Steering Committee, who has been volunteering at the park for 48 ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Compare And Contrast Young Goodman Brown And The Lottery Introduction Nathaniel Hawthorne s Young Goodman Brown and Shirley Jackson s The Lottery both tell stories using literary techniques of tone, symbolism, and irony that help to convey stories that leave the reader baffled by their ending. Although Hawthorne and Jackson utilize these literary techniques in a different way, both of the stories end with a sense of darkness. Tone Hawthorne and Jackson have set different tones for their stories. Nathaniel Hawthorne creates a tone that is somber and serious throughout most of the story of Yong Goodman Brown . • 12. Essay on The Bill of Rights The Bill of Rights is a list of limitations on the power of the government. Firstly, the Bill of Rights is successful in assuring the adoption of the Constitution. Secondly, the Bill of Rights did not address every foreseeable situation. Thirdly, the Bill of Rights has assured the safety of the people of the nation. Successes, failures, and consequences are what made the Bill of Rights what they are today. Firstly, the Bill of Rights has guaranteed the adoption of the Constitution. James Madison proposed the Bill of Rights to the First Federal Congress on June 8, 1789 (Primary Documents 1). An agreement was finally made to create the Bill of Rights to help secure ratification of the Constitution itself. Secondly, the Bill of Rights did not address every foreseeable situation. One failure of the Bill of Rights was the first amendment of the original Bill of Rights. The amendment concerned the number of constituents for each Representative and was never ratified. It said that once the House has one hundred members, it should not go below one hundred, and once it reached two hundred, it should not go below two hundred (Mount 1). Another failure was The Anti Title Amendment. This amendment said that any citizen who accepted or received any title of nobility from a foreign power, or who accepted without the consent of Congress any gift from a foreign power, by would no longer be a citizen (Mount 1). Basically, this said that if someone received or accepted something from a foreign power, that person would no longer be a citizen. The Anti Title Amendment was submitted to the States in 1810 and was ratified by only twelve states, the last being in 1812 (Mount 1). Thirty eight states are required to ratify to add an amendment. The Slavery Amendment was another failure of the Bill of Rights. Funding Tender Of Cash Value Benefits Several years ago, Texas WIC formed operational and technical workgroups to discuss the feasibility of adding split tender of Cash Value Benefits (CVB) as optional functionality for Smartcard WIC to enable WIC clients to use the full amount of CVB prescribed to them. The technical workgroup recommended another feature, benefit reversal, be added for situations where WIC clients didn t have the additional funds available to purchase items that would be split tendered with WIC benefits in the transaction. The X9.131 standard was adopted by the X9 committee in early 2015 and published through ANSI. As the WIC stakeholders were doing the work necessary to prepare developers for the split tender mandate, the credit card industry was also mandating changes in the retail world. Retailers would have to implement all changes necessary to handle chip and PIN EMV cards prior to October 1, 2015 or assume the liability for all fraudulent transactions where the mag stripe was swiped on an EMV capable card. As developers scrambled to meet this deadline (of which many failed), the implementation dates continued to slip which also delayed development efforts for the WIC benefit reversal development. As of April 2016, many retailers can still not accept an EMV chip card. Texas WIC was notified by Kroger on April 15, 2016 that the software delivery for split tender and benefit reversal would be delayed until early 2017. • 17. My Reflection On My Parents Instilled My parents instilled in me the importance of reading since a very early age. We formed a nightly routine of reading every night before bed as soon as I started learning the basics of reading. I enjoyed every moment of this; it was my favorite part of the day. The first book I was able to read on my own was One Fish Two Fish Red Fish Blue Fish by Dr. Seuss. The feeling of success I had after this accomplishment is as clear as day and I can still see myself as a five year old beaming with joy when I could finally read a book without assistance. In grade school, I was never the one who was passionate about reading. However, when it came time to write a story, I was excited and even wrote stories on my own. In third grade, my friends and I would write fictional stories during lunchtime and present them to our teacher after recess. I can still remember the sense of pride we felt when we saw the surprised and proud looks on our teacher s face. It made us want to write more and more. But years went on, and I still never formed a fondness for recreational reading. I ve been assigned more than five books a year in the past; some would catch my interest, but never enough to pull me in as much as to read in my spare time. There were rare occasions when I was really pulled into a book that was assigned to me. • 20. The Importance Of African Culture In Chinua Achebe s... Chinua Achebe s most well known novel Things Fall Apart was defined by many as a modern piece of African literature that was truly African. It became a major contribution to literature around the world. The novel revolves around an Ibo village in Nigeria. The inclusion of African culture, such as the language, stories, and way of life, create depth and dimension and are essential to the telling of the Ibo story by Achebe. The certain Ibo words included in the novel help develop a taste for true African culture. Without these words, Achebe would not have been able to explain himself as well as he did. The words that are used in the english language differ greatly from the words used in Ibo language. Achebe illustrates this when he writes, That was how Okonkwo first came to know that agbala was not only another name for a woman, it could also mean a man who had taken no title (Achebe 13). In this piece from the novel, it demonstrates that the special African word has a greater meaning than any English word ever could. If Achebe were to just say the word woman in place of the word agabala, many readers may become confused as to what he means. The word choice establishes what true African culture is. The author demonstrates this principle of the difference of language on many occasions throughout the novel such as, This man told him that the child was an ogbanje, one of those wicked children who, when they died, entered their mothers wombs to be born again (Achebe 77) and ... • 22. China s Outbound Direct Investment The type of China s outbound direct investment has also evolved over the years. In the 1980s and 1990s, China s ODI was largely undertaken by state owned enterprises (SOEs) which focused on acquiring assets in natural resources, infrastructure and logistics (Rosen Hanemann, 2009). This type of ODI was used to meet the demand of a growing China that needed commodities such as oil, iron, timber, and cement to develop its infrastructure and provide the resources needed for its cities to quickly urbanize (Rosen Hanemann, 2009). There are not ample amounts of these commodities in China, thus Chinese resource firms turned abroad to secure supplies of these natural resources through mining and other extraction investments (Rosen Hanemann, 2009). In the past five years, however, China s outbound direct investment has entered a new era as Chinese investment interest has shifted from targeting resource rich developing countries to advanced economies (Hanemann Huotari, 2015). Though energy is still a targeted industry, Chinese firms are eager to acquire advanced manufacturing assets that allow them to modernize technology and move up the value chain (Hanemann Lysenko, 2013, p.1). As they were walking across the bridge, Williams asked Lewis, Can you swim? Where a crowd of resisters was waiting for them. Even though the marchers faced violent opposition and met with conflict, they continued their demonstrations. The books and the movie displayed controversy throughout. One example is during the first attempt to cross the bridge, when the marchers were met by the Alabama State Troopers. It went very dark, very quick, as the troopers barged towards them, making this day known as Bloody Sunday , March 7, 1965. When asked for his comments in the movie by the press after the merciless attack on the marchers, King says While rageful violence continues towards the unarmed people of Selma, while they are assaulted with tear gas and batons like enemy in a war, no citizen of this country can call themselves blameless, for we all bear a responsibility for our fellow man. I am appealing to men and women of God and goodwill everywhere, white, black and otherwise. If you believe all are created equal, come to Selma. Join us. • 33. Essay About Summer Camp Summer Camp It was summer of 2013 and it was my first time traveling alone. I was going to Champéry, Switzerland. I felt excited because it s a part of the world which I haven t visited before. Going to the airport by myself and going through customs was a bit of a hassle, but nothing I can t handle. When I arrived at Champéry by train, I had to walk to the camp which not that far Just a 10 minute walk. As I walked to there the scenery was breathtaking. It was so green and surrounded with mountains where you can see white peaks because of the snow. You can see the cows wandering around on the hills and hear their jiggling bells. As I reached the camp, the manager was there greeting the new arrivals and the place we were staying at was this big 4 floor wooden house. The staff there were so friendly and welcoming. Everyone there was from different parts of the world. In the first day, they gave us a chance to go around and socialize and get familiar with the place because it ll be my home for the next 5 weeks. At first it was hard to communicate to people there because we all speak different languages, but we all know to talk English which was a life saver. When I started to walk around and get to know people there and I was surprised on how diverse the camp was, there were Spanish, Portuguese Russians, and English and many more. When ... • 34. Summary Of The Reclaiming The American Dream Report In the Reclaiming the American Dream report (AACC, 2012), seven recommendations were suggested to meet the needs of the students, as well as having a strong community college system. Hence, these recommendation address redesigning students educational experiences, reinventing institutional roles, and resetting the system to create incentives for students and institutional triumphs. Recommendation One A section of recommendation one is to increase completion rates of students earning community college credentials (certificates and associate degrees) by fifty percent by 2020. (AACC, 2012 p. 26). Although recommendation one is certainly obtainable, completing the goal by 2020 is doubtful. As an administrator, in order to see a goal this large come to manifestation, everyone has to get on the bus, and asking the same question who instead of what then, and only then will a goal this large will manifest ( Collins, 2001). However, utilizing particular strategies to accomplish the goal will help toward achieving the goal. In doing that, students would be served more effectively and more efficiently, because staff and faculty would be more intentional regarding the service rendered. Affective academic advising is an essential and sure way to promote students retention (O Banion, 1997). In addition, using strategies to construct coherent, structured pathways to complete degrees, promote transfers from community colleges to four year institutions, and to assist students ... • 35. Essay on Hospitality in The Hebrew Scriptures To welcome the other, the friend or the stranger, is a fundamental aspect of human society, friendship, love and life. It is the intersection of two lives, an event that can fundamentally alter the paths of all those involved. This importance within the basic functioning of human life makes the recognition of hospitality as a central theme of the Hebrew Scriptures an unsurprising reality. With this in mind then, through this essay we will examine the understanding of hospitality laid out in the canonical scriptures of the Hebrew Bible. Through exploring the events of Abraham s meeting guests in Genesis 18, the text of terror in Judges 19 in which hospitality is violated and the story of the book of Ruth, we will elicit the role ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... These entwined moments of welcome add to the already high significance societies place upon hospitality by alluding to a divine presence among those who meet, reinforcing the importance of this practice for those who attempt to follow the Hebrew Faith. Perhaps on of the most important occurrences of the practice of hospitality in the Hebrew Scriptures, and identified by some sources as paradigmatic , the encounter of Abraham with three strangers in Genesis 18 reflects the divinely entwined hospitality mentioned earlier. In this account, the patriarch Abraham is seen as offering the idealized fulfillment of true hospitality through the overwhelming nature of his actions and offerings. From the beginning of the story, we see Abraham go out of his way to greet and welcome the guest, from the initial running to meet them before bowing in their presence, through to the offer of bread and the reality of a far greater feast, Abraham spares nothing in his encounter with the strangers. These actions take on further meaning when referenced in light of the readers awareness that one of these strangers is The Lord (Gen 18:1). Through the introduction of the divine character, and this character s acceptance of Abraham s hospitality , a paradigm is established in the story that is found throughout the rest of the Hebrew Scriptures. Because of the paradigmatic model of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 36. Technological Advancements During The First World War A nation s ability to fight a modern war is as good as its technological ability. An English inventor who was of great importance in the invention of the turbojet said these words. I partly agree with him, as technology is the basis of most aspects of war. If a nation were to fight a war without the use of technology it would fight with sticks and stones. Technological innovations in the First World War (WW1) have led to much of the technology that we have today, ranging form the various weapons modern armies are equipped with to the radios used for communication. If something is significant then it has an important influence on a thing, such as an event, that will happen in the future. In this way, did the technological innovations in WW1, such as gas, communications and the machine gun, not only have an effect on the outcome of the war but also have an effect on how our world is shaped today? One technological innovation of the war was the use of poison gases, such as mustard gas. The use of gas in WW1 was initially of huge importance as it was thought to be the weapon to break the stalemate. During the war, Gas was a horrific weapon, which had the capability to inflict life endangering injuries, but as the war drew on, the technology for preventing its effects, such as gas masks, were invented and improved. Gas in the latter parts of the war was not released from canisters but was fired in gas filled artillery shells, which led to more accurate and devastating ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The controversy over the existence of alien life forms began March 23, 1909, in Peterborough, UK. This was unusual because neither nor New Zealand had any aircraft at the time (Wilson 14). • 39. Communicating Through Numbers in Toni Morrison s Beloved... Communicating Through Numbers in Beloved Humanity uses numbers as a way to communicate beyond words, evoking ideas more readily than words alone are able to. All religions and cultures have significant numbers that communicate an essence or idea more quickly and completely than words can. It is in this manner that Toni Morrison uses numbers in Beloved. Significant numbers occur starting with the first symbols of the text and the words on the pages before the body of the text starts. 124. The first thing to appear, and we already have a significant number. Sethe has four children. The third one is dead. Numbers 1, 2, and 4 remain. Another number that stands alone in its significance is twenty eight. Twenty eight ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Rather than tell Sethe with words that trying to kill her children was inhuman, Paul D uses numbers: You got two feet, Sethe, not four (165). There are thirty women that arrive to remove Beloved. Thirty is a symbol of justice and order, according to Marianne Schimmel. When schoolteacher arrives with his party, they are described as the four horsemen (148). In fact, the only time a number occurs by itself as a sentence is to describe them: All the while it was coming down the road. Four. Riding close together, bunched up like, and righteous (157). Each of these is a powerful symbol, though none of these numbers recur in the text, at least not with these meanings. Two is duality, a pair, a division. It is also a unity, two halves of the same whole. Sex is expressed in many cultures as a duality, the yin and yang, father sky and mother earth. In Beloved, twos, fours, and even twenties occur in situations related to sex and children. Baby Suggs has eight children (209), four girls, four boys. Sethe has four. Two boys, two girls. 124 has two stories, and Sethe and Paul D have sex on the second floor. At Mrs. Garner s wedding, they ate four sheep (59). From the two buckets of blackberries he picked, Stamp Paid put two into the mouth of four week old Denver (170). At Baby Suggs revival, after talking about your life holding womb and your life giving private parts, the crowd sings in four part harmony (89). Such a performance ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 40. The War On Drugs in the USA Essay The War On Drugs in the USA One of the most explosive issues in the current American political climate is illegal drug use. Drug abuse is intimately connected to problems like crime, economic discrimination, and race relations, and is a topic of great controversy for many Americans. The campaign to stamp out illegal drug use is called the war on drugs because it pinpoints the need to crack down on drug dealers, arrest users, and generally pursue an enormously expensive law enforcement agenda. The war on ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Africa Americans comprise 12.2% of the population and 13% of drug users, but 38% of those arrested for drug offenses, and 59% if those convicted are Africa Americans. The war on drugs is taking a toll on low income, minority families, adding to the obstacles between them and economic success. A lot of poor youths turn to illegal drug use and the illegal drug trade because they are looking for a better life. If we use the money spent on fighting the illegal drug trade to educate these poor youths we would give them a way to gain economic and social success. They would not have to enter the illegal drug trade looking for a way out of the slums. Drugs are an issue of government and political debate. Lower income families will deal drugs trying to make a better life for themselves, but instead end up being addicted and committing crimes to feed their habit. In the United States 9% of whites live in poverty, compared with the 31% of blacks living in poverty. Because of this percent of blacks living in poverty there are more involved in illegal drug use and sales. This makes the police more skeptical when they see a black person in a place they think he shouldn t be. The racial disproportionate nature of the war on drugs is not just horrible on the black Americans. It contradicts faith in the principles of justice and equal protection. The ... We don t really think much about the system and how it is bad or good, we just know that this person lost their family. But there is a lot of things wrong with the foster care system. The group homes, there are far too many kids living in homes that is supposed to be temporary. Foster care cruelty, many kids in foster care witness abuse. Ageing out of the system, many kids who age out of the system have no clue on what to do. Unresolved grief and loss, many kids put up with grief that no one helps them with that can lead to many other problems. More than 20,000 American children were placed in a group home in 2013. The children in these group homes are put in there for long unneeded periods, roughly one in seven of the 57,000 were placed in a group home rather than a foster home and about 23,000 of these kids have no documented clinical or behavioral need that might warrant placing a child outside a family. Children in group homes children are more likely to have lower test scores which leads to a lower risk of graduating from high school and more than twice as likely to be arrested. If you think that s bad, group homes cost seven to ten times more than placing a child with a family. That s seven to ten times more of what your tax payments go to.
