Reflection On Race And Race
Sex and gender and Race and ethnicity were two topics that really stood out to me during the course of
this class. The reason those topics caught my attention was because I didn t realize how unaware I was
of all of the social problems surrounding those topics still going on today. I assumed we had already
conquered racism and sexism in the 21st century with the civil rights movement with Martin Luther
King jr., the 19th amendment granting women the right to vote, and women s rights movements in the
1960s. But I was clearly blind to the amount of institutional sexism and racism that still take place in
education systems, athletics, the workplace, media, health care systems etc. Such as girls receiving
less teacher attention and less useful feedback than boys, girls not being seen as strong enough for
certain sports, workers of color being concentrated in lower paying jobs, members of ethnoracial
minorities are less likely to have access to health insurance etc. I was fascinated with looking at the
most common environments with a fresh pair of eyes and a different outlook on everyday life. Seeing
how different the world I conjured up in my head is from reality was a wake up call for me to be more
conscious of the unequal world we live in as well as the start of curiosity to understand how the world
we live in works and why.
I was always so oblivious to the inequalities that come with not being a male, but one of the important
things I learned in this class was about the

Appreciation and Value for Life in Richard Wilbur s Poem...
In humanity, one chooses to spend the most amount of time doing what they love in order to result in a
satisfying and happily lived existence. Richard Wilbur expresses his appreciation and value of life
throughout the poem, A Late Aubade . This poem is influenced and based off of Wilbur s strong
relationship with his devoted wife. It emphasizes throughout detailed imagery how one must enjoy the
moments they have and can share with their loved one. The existence of an individual is not about
wasting time by being out and completing unnecessary jobs, it s about spending time doing what one
loves to do. Wilbur is convincing his wife to not go about on her womanly daily activities; he wants
her to stay and to take advantage of the few valuable moments life offers for them to be together.
Throughout A Late Aubade , Wilbur stresses by applying descriptive language that in life, one must
not waste any precious time and should rather focus on what they are passionate about.
Richard Wilbur was born in New York City on March 1rst in 1921. He contained a strong literary
background as he had come from a family of several journalists. Wilbur s father was a painter and as
he recorded experiences of life through his paintings, Wilbur became inspired to do this through
poetry. As he came from a Christian religious background, this was a great influence to him as he
alludes to many Christian references throughout his works. He and his middle class family had moved
to North Caldwell,

Voices From The Heartland By Julie Carson Essay
Voices from the Heartland is an anthology of essays that relates the stories of Oklahoma women. The
authors share their experiences about their lives in Oklahoma: childhood experiences, relationships
with neighbors, devastating times, life changing events. The essays are organized under a set of
themes, not limiting the contributors to a specific topic. Some of the pieces are light hearted, such as
Julie Carson s essay about her left handedness, while others deal with the struggles the authors have
gone through because of their gender. While the gender issues accentuated in the book are conveyed
by Oklahoma women, they are relevant to women everywhere, in America, other industrialized
nations, as well as developing countries.
Women are often confined to a set of ideals and expectations because of one simple fact: they are
women. Many of the women who contributed to this book have faced gender stereotyping and
discrimination. Instead of allowing traditional social norms to confine them to an unwanted lifestyle,
they challenged these conventional ideals, risking failure and facing condemnation from strangers as
well as people close to them. People often associate feminism with negativity and pessimism. In
Feminism is a Dirty Word, Cindy Simon Rosenthal talks about how people refuse to define themselves
as a feminist. However, the movement does not advocate for women s special privileges. Feminism
celebrates social equality and supports the utilization of all talents.

Structural tension is a type of mechanism in our brain from perspective of psychology. We need to list
our main goals in a separate book called goal book. Then, we need to read it everyday and make it as
habit or discipline. This will activate our power of desire. When our power of desire increases, our
brain closes the gap between the current reality and the vision of our goal.

My Life As A Hero
There are many people in my life that have done great things. My mother and my father raised me in a
great way to give me a great life. I will never forget the man who pulled me out of a ditch while I was

He had an older sister and a younger brother. He grew up in a very deep Christian faith with great
emphasis on the commandment Thou shall not kill . On December 7th, 1941, while Doss was 22 years
old, the Japanese bombed Pearl Harbor in the surprise attack against the Pacific fleet stationed at
there. At the outset of the war, Doss worked at a shipyard, but he quit his job to join the armed forces
despite being offered to work at the shipyard during the war instead of going in arms overseas.
He was sent to Fort Jackson, South Carolina, to become a medic for the newly reactivated 77th
infantry division. However, despite Doss s persistence to join the uniformed forces, he refused to carry
a weapon into combat, and to fight on Sunday (the Sabbath) which his higher ups harassed him for. He
was eventually allowed to serve as a medic, unarmed as a conscientious objector.
He served in campaigns in Guam and the Philippines in 1944, and the United States was closing in on
the Empire of Japan through their island hoping campaign. The United States had one more island to
go, Okinawa. Okinawa was only 400 miles from mainland Japan and that would serve as an invasion
base for mainland Japan, and a launching point for air assaults on Japan. The taking of Okinawa
would be of huge strategic importance to the United States of America.

South Asian Culture
The popularization of South Asian culture through its use by mainly white female celebrities alludes to
the idea that white women exotify South Asian culture, as it makes them feel as though they are more
ethnic. Similarly, as it is mainly white women, even celebrities, who are those adorned with bindis and
other symbols of South Asian culture in American media, it alludes to the idea that white women are
seen as more desirable and are more praised in society than those who do not fit that standard. Maira
had noticed that many of the people who were ready to adopt these cultural elements were mainly
white women, speaking to the idea of white imperialism and white supremacy. Through a testimonial

He describes it as if it restricts us from trying new cultures and partaking in multiculturalism. While
he brings up the valid argument that one cannot adopt a culture simply because they have cultural ties
to it as that fails to, as well as understand the struggles that people of color face in America by being
undermined by white people, he fails to address the idea that people who adopt parts of a culture after
finding out that they have that heritage are only trying to figure out themselves, while cultural
appropriation is defined as one adopting aspects of a culture and only using it as fashion without
trying to learn its significance.
Cultural appropriation allows for the identity of the culture to be changed and diminished, as the
constant commodification and misuse of cultural artifacts aids in changing how the culture is
perceived. Through her critique of Sita Sings the Blues, a film retelling of the ancient Hindu epic
poem of Ramayana, Lodhia argues that when a part of a culture goes through a commodification
process, the way that others view that aspect become skewed, shifting from the original meaning and
purpose. As the film was written and directed by a white woman, as well as the fact that the film was
an exotified version of the story, the film experienced severe backlash from Hindu Americans. The
film itself excessively exotifies and sexualizes the protagonist Goddess Sita, with the illustrations

The Innocent Man Book Response Essay
The Innocent Man Book Response In today s society the criminal justice system that we live in is
flawed in so many ways. Some say that it works while others go to prison or jail for crimes that they
didn t commit. In this paper I will be covering specific examples from the book, The Innocent Man,
where the defendant s rights were violated. John Grisham talks about innocent men being innocent
and convicted for murder and sent to unlawful court proceedings. In this paper I will be focusing
mainly on the violations of his 6th amendment. The 6th amendment is the right to effective assistance
of counsel. Now Mr. Williamson was a very indigent or poor man and because of that he couldn t
afford a great attorney. Therefore he was assigned ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This violation being in the form of a videotape, which could have completely changed the outcome of
the case. On this videotape there was a full confession from Ricky Simmons. Barney Ward knew all
about this videotape (as it was shared with him along with all other information) yet he chose not to
bring this evidence to the table and share it with the jury. Judge Jones ruled that the tape was not a
Brady violation. The tape was not really hidden; it was handed over after the trial, sort of a delayed
submission (Grisham pg. 258) .This one piece of evidence alone would have been enough to change
the opinions of the jury and change the outcome of the trail. However because Barney Ward did NOT
show this video, this is a clear violation of Mr. Williamson s 6th Amendment, which guarantees that in
all criminal prosecutions there must be an effective assistance of counsel (Cole and Smith pg. 84). In
my opinion at no point in this trial was Ron Williamson s attorney an effective assistance of counsel .
Now the last example of how Ron Williamson s 6th Amendment was violated was as the very
beginning of all this. During the investigation of the crime scene, the police conducting the search had
found two hair samples. There was no proof that either of these belonged to Mr. Williamson, however
they still claimed that it had come from the scalp of Mr. Williamson. However this is just a claim and
Barney Ward knew that and should have jumped on this opportunity. Mr. Ward

Personal Health Improvement Plan
Personal Health Improvement Plan Background In early January of 2016, I embarked on a new
challenge to improve my overall health. Looking back in the past 4 years, I know that I have always
found myself happiest when I was regularly exercising. Exercising decreased my anxiety and
depression and overall I was in a great mood. The idea behind setting up this challenge was that I
wanted to challenge myself to get to my old self, where I had an overall positive energy. I set a goal
that in the next 4 months, I wanted to lose 10 pounds. The pounds was a measurement to see about the
intensity of the workout, so I wanted to challenge myself a little bit more than just going out for runs.
Since I know that medical school is a very busy place, I figure that I would be able commit to run at
least 5 days per week. Methods I would lose 10 pounds by running at least 5 times per week. The
progress and the success of this goal would be measured based on how much weight I lose as I get
toward the end of the 4 months time period. This was an attainable goal, since I have had previous
experience in running. Running is important to me because overall it improves not just my weight but
also my moods and gives me overall peace. At the start of the project this was very important to me on
a scale of 1 to 10; I had rated it an 8 as being that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

was great and I was able to follow 5 days per week for the first two weeks before I went off. Even
though the running has not gone as expected, I figured that I could still try to meet the expectation of
10 pounds by altering my diets. So now I include more vegetables, eat 3 times and snake in between
per meal. I have been trying to improve my mood by sleeping more, which means basically getting 8
hours per night. But once exams have settled down I am hoping to pick up my running

may not affect them yet, or they don t want to acknowledge all the darkness in the human heart. In my
experience, looking the other way, usually leads to even greater trouble in the end. Only one of the
numerous examples to illustrate this is the build up to the atrocities in Nazi Germany. It began with the
persecution of the disabled, Roma gypsies, Catholic priests, as well as Jehovah s Witnesses and later
spread to the Jews. Furthermore, physicians such as Dr. Josef Mengele and Dr. Eduard Wirths

deliberately inflicting wounds on the prisoners to assess antimicrobial efficacy. Nonetheless, the world
remained silent until World War II erupted in 1939. Another example

Terrorist Theories Of Al Qaeda
Do you remember where you were on Tuesday, September 11, 2001? Well if you do, then this should
be a memory refresher, but if you don t, heres something for you to learn. There were four airlines that
were hijacked by the Islamic Extremist Group, Al Qaeda. Al Qaeda had planned to use a suicide attack
against the United States. At 8:45 am, two of the four hijacked planes crashed into the Twin Towers at
the World Trade Center, the third plane hit the Pentagon in Washington DC and the fourth plane
crashed into a field in Pennsylvania. This day, was going to change America forever. Since the
terrorist attacks, there has been many conspiracy theories that put fourth to what actually happened .
As these conspiracies come, they range from planes not even hitting the Twin Towers but bombs that
destroyed those buildings to the government knowing and going along with the plan of attack. Even
though that the government says they made up the attack now, the 9/11 attack did happen how we
thought it happened because of Islamic Extremist group thinking that America is weak, thousands of
people died and we ended up going to war to find Osama Bin Laden. One might say that the
government did not plan the 9/11 attack. Heres what the Islamic Extremest group is and what their
purpose for their attack was. Islamic Extremist group consist of two aspects of extremist,

Media s Influence on Women s Thin Ideal Internalization
Sociocultural factors, or in other words, customs, lifestyles and values that characterize a society or
group, play a large part in the way individuals think of themselves and others. Throughout childhood,
children are socialized to understand how to be accepted in society and what it takes in order to take
the status of portraying what the right way to look like is. The act of adapting behavior to the norms of
a culture or society is called socialization. We are shown these norms through magazines, social media

The Black Walnut Tree Analysis
It is true that we cannot take our worldly possessions with us after we leave this world. Thus, deciding
which possessions are worth fighting for is something most people grapple with in their lives. Because
mortgage bills and other financial responsibilities have the power to cripple a family s finances, the
story of the family portrayed by Mary Oliver in The Black Walnut Tree that decides to keep a Walnut
Tree instead of paying off their mortgage is endearing and relatable. The use of communal diction,
simile, and personification convey the relationship between the tree and the family as invaluable and
indispensable. Communal diction is used to characterize the relationship between the family and the
tree as united. The words our and we create a unanimous front for the family because all decisions

The incentive to keep the tree is described as brighter than money because an edge sharp and quick as
a trowel...wants us to dig and sow . Because a trowel is a tool like a knife that cuts sharp and deep, this
simile implies that the pain of selling the tree would be sharp and deep. The work and time that it
would take to dig and sow to maintain the tree is still less pain than the initial loss of the tree. Because
they would feel loss if the tree were gone, the relationship is shown to have meaning. Personification
also contributes to the relationship by making the tree a lively component of the family instead of a
passive object in the back yard. A relationship necessitates at least two parties so it is necessary that
the tree be a part of the family. At the end of the poem, the black walnut tree swings into another year
when the family decides to keep it. This shows that the family respects the tree as its own entity and
presence. First, this personifies the tree as free and leisurely because swings are usually for play. It
also contextualizes the tree as having a

Analyzing Truman Capote s In Cold Blood
Knowledge
Title
Truman Capote chose the title In Cold Blood possibly because Dick and Perry murdered four innocent
members of a family. The term of cold blood is defined as without feeling or with cruel intent and that
is evident in the novel. Dick and Perry killed these member of family with pretty much no reason in
doing so and the deaths were brutal. This is an obvious reason for the title name but maybe there is a
hidden meaning in the title. The little town of Holcomb was a very peaceful place where everyone had
their doors unlocked and they all trusted one another. Dick and Perry took the towns feeling of
security and comfort once they committed this act.

Short Essay On Amelia Earhart
The Lockheed air ship carrying American pilot Amelia Earhart and guide Frederick Noonan is
reported missing on July 2, 1937. Earhart s round the world flight was cut short when her Lockheed
Electra disappeared over the Pacific Ocean.
She was born in Atchison, Kansas 1897. One year her and her family went on a Christmas vacation to
visit her sister in Toronto, 1917. During this vacation, a pilot flew his plane near her. That Christmas
vacation would have the biggest impact the rest of her life. She started flying at the age of 24 and later
known as one of the most punctual female pilots. In 1927, Charles A. Lindbergh flew solo nonstop
across the Atlantic Ocean. A year later, in 1928, the publisher of Lindbergh s autobiography, George P.
Putnam, also Earhart s soon to be husband, invited Earhart to become the first woman to fly across the
Atlantic Ocean.
Departing from Miami first, on June 1, 1937, Earhart and Fred, the navigator, set out on her journey
around the world. This trip would be 29,000 miles long heading east. As Earhart was approaching

Reaction Paper On Bungee Jumping
FINAL
Dante Mattson 11 Physics
28 August 2014
!
Bungee Jumping is an extreme sport, it requires the participant to jump from a bridge, crane or other
high place while secured at the ankles with a nylon cased rubber band. From the mere sight of
someone Bungee Jumping, one might assume that the act is very dangerous for obvious reasons, for
example: The rope breaking there s nothing to save you down there, so why do so many people put
their lives in a piece of elastic? Bungee Jumping relies on the restoring force of the elastic to protect
the jumper from the fall below. Because of the Law of Conservation of Energy, the gravitational
potential energy at the top of the jump is converted to elastic potential energy at the bottom of the
jump. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It would show that it would potentially be life threatening to use the wrong material in real bungee
jumping. It was proven that the elastic based cord (green) would be most suitable for bungee jumping.
This is because the force exerted is more spaced out, and allows for a softer drop to equilibrium, rather
than a violent, potentially deadly faster stop. The gradual restoring force is essential to bungee
jumping. To come to a safe stop, restoring force is needed. Without said force, the force of the person
jumping would be applied directly to the rope / elastic, causing it to potentially break and the person to
fall. The rebound phase, consisting of dampened oscillatory motion, safely decreases the velocity of
the jumper. The Galilean paradigm of the motion of constant masses, states every acceleration must be
produced by a force. Bungee jumping is proof of this physics concept. When the person jumps, the
gravity produces acceleration on the body, forcing the person down, and the rope attached with it. The
restoring oscillations act upon the body to dampen the downwards forces. Because the Hooke s Law
equation will deviate when the elastic fails, at a certain applied force; as materials cannot be
compressed beyond a minimum size, or extended beyond a maximum size. The modern theory of
elasticity generalises to state that the strain or deformation of an elastic material is proportional to the
stress applied to it. Hooke s Law is crucial to this EEI because Hooke s Law calculates the extension
of an elastic material from the spring constant (k) and the change in x, also known as ∆x and will
determine the safest alternative for use in Bungee

Introduction to Organizational Psychology
Organizational Psychology Introduction Psychology is a social science, which entails the study of man
s thinking and activities. Psychology applies in various fields that involving human kind, such as
organizations. Processes such as employment, recruiting and socialization in an organization apply the
psychology principle under workplace. Biological, social and psychological are the major principles
used in organizations during the decision making and recruitment process. Recruitment process
Recruitment process is a social process, which involves the organization and the job applicant. The
organizations determine the competence of the job applicant using various assessing methods. This
enables the organization to recruit the most highly qualified personnel to fill in positions in the
organization. Various employers apply various recruitment methods to ensure that there is improved
level of performance. For employers, the ideal recruiting process is one that provides for many
candidates who fit the position, applicants though, might lose interest if there is a long lapse time
between the time of recruitment and employment. More other important factors are appearance of the
job and maybe the salary, and this might influence the employer to accept or refuse a job. In addition,
the way treat the employers during recruitment plays a major role in applicants determining whether
or not to take the job. Organization should portray a positive picture during recruitment, since

A Brief Note On The Pollution Control Programme
1.1.1 Extra fuel consumption
Due to traffic jam, extra fuel consumption is a big problem for a developing country like India. The
government is buying this extra amount of fuel with hard cash. This is considered a national loss.
1.1.2 Vehicle operating cost
Vehicle operating cost is directly proportionate to the traffic jam. A vehicle operator applies more
breaks and accelerates again and again. So, the lifetime of vehicle parts and fuel consumption will be
more in road jams. Traffic jam actually increases VOC. Figure 8: Mapping of congestion cost

Narrative Essay On American Dream
Coming to America your vision is the American Dream . Owning a home , educating your children ,
and spending time with your family are just a few dreams that attract foreigners . My father Caesar

someone else wouldn t allow him to achieve his dream. He decided to work for himself and enter into
the gas station business in 2007. During this time gas was at some of its all time highs ; $3.50 per
gallon , $4.01 per gallon , and more on the east coast . My father s ownership of the Sunoco gas

nightmare . While he was making money he was being robbed , and reporting finances improperly .
My father bought his gas station from a local owner in Cumberland Maryland . They were limited

The Truth Behind The Collective Memory
Just after the end the First World War, a phenomenal fear emerged in many societies that prevalent
chaos and struggle to restore peace in politics, economics and the society itself, was irrevocable
consequence of men brutalized by the war cruelty. The hope that war was to end war had been proven
to be far from truth. Hence, it is ironic that the need to somehow legitimize war experience, created
what George L. Mosse calls the Myth of the War Experience. This myth looked upon the war as a
meaningful and even sacred event and generated a massive consent that brutality was of vital
importance to create a national destiny. The controversial brutalization thesis has recently become a
passionate debate among historians, thus developing ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Such indifference was even more strengthen by the radical Rights which soon predominated political
arena. The political agenda of the Rights were decisively based on the Myth of the War Experience,
which legitimized (not only theoretically but also practical adjustment of the law) their aggressive and
racist politics which certainly embraced the dehumanization of the enemy. Such view, based upon no
matter whether a real or just presupposed threat, meant that foe was stereotyped. For instance, Mosse
recalls that pre existed tensions and dislike of Jews associated with Bolshevism turned to become a
massive hatred, imposing that they were the only to be blamed for Germany s after war hardships.
This contempt to the enemy was exposed through various forms of propaganda which became
inseparable contrast of the ideal of manliness. Manliness, together with Camaraderie, Mosse suggests,
was another part of the Myth of the War Experience which exerted influence over the brutalization
process. Upsurge of the warrior ideal the man of steel , indirectly encouraged barbarism within the
society. Consequently, Mosse Draws a conclusion that attitudes toward death which eventually
generated a myth, were the cause for these symptoms of brutality in the society and ultimate
brutalization of politics, transporting the Great World War to the inevitable WWII. As we can see,
Mosse builds his argument by providing various

Racial Politics And The Race Cycle Model Essay
It has been centuries since slavery ended across Latin America and the United States, yet racial issues
continue to plague these countries. Since manumission, the concept of race has evolved through the
meaning societies have given it. While the idea of race is merely conceptual it has significant social
and political effects. More specifically, through racial politics, these countries have been able to
incorporate race in their agendas and implement racial politics in their laws and policies in such a way
that perpetuates racial ideologies. One of the methods used to understand the role of racial politics and
its effect on racial ideologies and vice versa is the race cycle model. The purpose of the race cycle
model is to demonstrate how racial ideologies are improved, worsened, or maintained, but fails to
explain how the cycle can lead to multiple, asymmetrical outcomes as depicted by the racial politics of
Haiti and the responses of other Latin American and the United States following the Haitian
Revolution.
The race cycle model begins with what Sawyer (2006) calls the old equilibrium. This old equilibrium
represents the status quo surrounding the racial politics and ideologies in a state. In the old
equilibrium, Haiti was formerly a French colony known as Saint Domingue on the island of
Hispaniola. Throughout this period, Saint Domingue was a major plantation zone and France s
wealthiest overseas colony, exporting, Over 80,000 tons of sugar , among other cash crops

Theme Of Revenge In Frankenstein
The Revenge of a Medieval Monster The reason for a decision made by The Monster or Victor
Frankenstein s creation, created one of the many themes revenge . Revenge is an interesting theme
that occurs in the book Frankenstein. There are many events that occur in the story that support this
theme. Revenge forms a very destructive feeling within the monster. The theme of revenge first
appears when the monster was mistreated by his creator, Victor Frankenstein. The monster then was
abandoned by the De Lacey family. The monster then decided to turn to revenge. The monster actions
are understandable because it has been abandoned and mistreated by humanity. Revenge truly effected
the monster in this novel. Revenge turned the monster into a real monster that had no feelings and
made him want to destroy his creator. The monster wanted revenge on Victor because he abandoned
and mistreated him. Also, Victor wasn t a good father figure, he didn t teach or care for his creation.
Cursed, cursed creator! Why did I live? Why, in that instant, did I not extinguish the spark of existence
which you had so wantonly bestowed? I know not; despair had not yet taken possession of me; my
feeling were those of rage and revenge. I could with my pleasure have destroyed the cottage and its

into the lives of these undocumented Mexican workers. They share their stories of crossing the border,
the affects of their absence on family back in Mexico, and the daily struggles of living in a country
without the benefits of citizenship. The Lions, as well as other undocumented Mexicans, have to face
Americans stereotypes every day. Probably the biggest stereotype the Lions contend with is the belief
that all Mexicans are hard workers. The word ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This statement leads one to believe that the Lions have taken the expectations that Americans have set
for them and made them a part of their social identity. While the Lions actions may make the hard
working Mexican stereotype seem innocent enough, it can lead to employers taking advantage of
undocumented workers. Americans have a bit of a record regarding the exploitation of immigrants. In
her book Gomberg Muñoz relates how when the United States needed more workers they opened their
arms to Mexicans. However, when the economy begins to slow down, the first people asked to leave
and give up their jobs are the very same people they invited and encouraged to come. Since many
business owners were used to employing Mexicans, they still hire them although it is against laws and
regulations. Americans using undocumented Mexican workers tend to pay them less, put them in more
dangerous jobs, and make them work harder because they believe Mexicans love to work. While this
is great for America and American businesses, it is not as beneficial to the Mexicans they take
advantage of. Gomberg Muñoz s book provides the reader with an inside prospective of the lives of
undocumented Mexicans. It shows what it is like for people working to help forward themselves and
their families in Mexico and The United States. Contrary to some Americans belief that Mexicans
want to take over the United States, the majority of the Lions just

Friendship In The Chosen, The Quarrel, And On Friendship
There are many ideas and opinions on the nature of friendship, but there are characteristics that texts

noted that friendship is determined and shaped through our culture, beliefs, societies and our

and Jonathan , The Quarrel, and On Friendship .
In The Chosen the friendship between Danny and Reuven was hard to form because of their two

Upton Sinclair s The Jungle Essay
For centuries immigrants have left their homes and have journeyed to the United States in pursuit to
live out the American Dream , an idea that the U.S. will provide people with a better life. However,
this better life was not just given upon arrival, immigrants were not told the horrid experiences, and
backbreaking hour, they would face in search for a better life. There is no better representation of this
than Upton Sinclair s The Jungle, this book is a very accurate representation of the life of the vast
majority of people within the United States. During the time when this book was written there were
few jobs, and the jobs that were obtainable were mostly factory jobs with horrible conditions that
entailed excruciating hours. Aside from the dangerous conditions, the pay was next to nothing making
it near impossible to afford food and shelter, let alone providing for a family. Immigrants quickly
found out that the American Dream was not the glorified vision that they thought, rather more like the
song Welcome to the Jungle by Guns N Roses . After examining the lyrics, you can tell the similarities
Axl Rose and the rest of Guns N Roses were facing as they tried to make it in the music industry. In
the jungle, welcome to jungle, watch it bring you to your knees, I wanna watch you bleed, once you

Persuasive Essay Dropout
In the United States alone, approximately 1.2 million students dropout of high school every year. That
means that 7,000 teenagers are dropping their high school education every day. I believe that this is
partially because the dropout age is currently sixteen years old in the majority of states. This alarming
number would only grow if the legal dropout age dropped down to fourteen years old, which is what
many are speculating could happen sometime over the next few years. I think that we could and
should avoid this problem altogether by keeping the dropout age at sixteen years old, if not raising it
to eighteen years old.
My first and primary reason for believing that the dropout age should continue on as 16 years old, if
not older, is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Many high school dropouts come to regret their decision to dropout later in life once their brains
become more developed. In fact, a study states that more than 74% of people that dropout of high
school come to regret their decision. I believe that if the dropout age to eighteen years old there will
be a significant change in the dropout rate. At that age, the PFC isn t completely there, but it is
definitely more developed. At eighteen years old, one has a better view on life and is able to make a
life altering decision with a clearer head.
According to PBS, the average high school dropout makes approximately $20,241 every year, which
is $10,386 less than someone with a bachelor s degree. This leads me to my second point those who
dropout of high school are practically guaranteed to lead to a less well off lifestyle. The same source
states that the national unemployment rate as of August 2015 was 8.1%. However, this measured to
12% of American citizens who dropped out of high school and only 4.1% with a college degree.
Personally, I believe that most high schoolers don t have a clear view of the future. Many of those that
dropout of high school don t realize how desperately this is going to effect their lives twenty years
from now. This isn t only affecting them, but our country s economy. According to a 2013 study from

Customization Of Firearms
From what I ve gathered out of this article is simply the following: Customization isn t something that
can only be obtained by modernized sporting rifles(Bolt Guns and AR s). With a few rather simplistic
steps any Gunsmith can tailor an old shotgun(smoothbore and rifled) to fit a specific shooter in some
pretty ingenious ways. First would be correcting the length of pull. In my mind, I like to compare this
aspect of firearms to a good compound bow, you can buy higher end ones and if the draw length is off
it simply will not perform what you expect of it. The same principle applies to firearms, regardless of
whether it would be a rifle or shotgun. Improper fit in this aspect will result in sub par accuracy and
more importantly, it will ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The overall length of pull was short, the comb height was non existent and I would have to break
cheek weld all the time, and lastly the pitch was awful. The pitch is what I ll cover seeing how it was
the most problematic for me. If the shooter were to draw a line that bisected the rifle from the bore to
the Buttstock it would become obvious the problem with this old rifle. It simply was not anywhere in
line. It would ve been four fifths of the stock were below the bisection. Meaning the recoil was pretty
nasty and made follow up shots difficult. After reading this article, I ve come to the conclusion of how
to fix my old fabled Mauser, one being a new stock with more of the bore being in line to the
Buttstock. The second modification will be the porting of the barrel to help some of the muzzle climb.
Most younger gun enthusiasts associate a ported barrel directly to a Glock. I ve personally had the
same train of thought as well. The benefits of porting an old Shotgun become almost ideal for any
application. Most younger folks will probably seek out porting to fit the bill of 3 Gun Comps or for
use in the good old outdoors. Either way you cannot go wrong. Particularly if the shooter is a small
framed individual that has to absorb the majority of recoil from slugs or other heavy loads. Not only
will the shooter s shoulder forgive them it will also allow them more longevity on the gun

Like most STIs, this infection is passed along through vaginal, anal and oral sex. However, syphilis
can also be passed on through kissing if there is a sore present on the mouth. Unlike most STIs,
syphilis comes in four different stages. In the earlier stages, syphilis is present typically through a sore
present on the genitals, or mouth area and can be treated with antibiotics. Later stages of syphilis can
lead to rashes on the hands and feet, which may also be treated with antibiotics. However, the third
stage of syphilis typically will have no symptoms, and people can go untreated for years with it; those
who go untreated can reach stage four of syphilis, which can cause damage to the nervous system, the
heart, brain, and even sometimes in severe cases, untreated syphilis can lead to death. It is extremely
important that if you think you may be infected with syphilis, you get treated immediately as to avoid
any serious damage being done to your body. Though only about 15% of those infected with Syphilis
will reach the fourth stage of the infection, anyone who carries this disease untreated is at

Analysis of Hero the Film by Zhang Yimou
Zhang Yimou s thrilling film Hero is both an emotional and exhilarating experience. Hero combines
the use of action packed scenes as well as a beautiful love story. Nameless, Broken Sword and Flying
Snow, the main characters, team up to eventually kill the King of Qin who had murdered a number of
people with the Qin army including both Flying Snow and Nameless s father. Although the Qin army
is an enemy of Broken Sword and Flying Snow s people, it is a personal issue to assassinate the king.
Throughout the film the audience is exposed to the developing love that forms between Broken Sword
and Flying Snow. While their love unfolds, many battles of combat arise between enemies and allies.

By using this type of editing to include slow motion, the editing expanded chronological time. By
expanding chronological time the events of the scene are dragged out so the viewer can see every
element and detail of the scene. The way the film maker edited this film allowed the film to display
battle scenes and excellent scenery that completed the appearance of the film. Through the use of
editing of a film, the filmmaker is able to incorporate special effects, slow motion and expand
chronological time in order to give the correct film effect on the audience. The tone of a film is very
important to the overall mode and emotion of the movie. The tone of the movie Hero is both romantic
as well as action packed. There are many points throughout the film where the romantic scenes collide
with the action packed scenes to make the film both entertaining and emotional. The relationship
between Broken Sword and Flying Snow connects the audience to the intensity of their emotion.
Although Broken Sword is more emotional than Flying Snow, the differences between the
personalities create the unique romance that carries them throughout the entire film. While the
romantic story between the love bird continues until the day they die together, the swift fighting tone
of the film is also consistent throughout the film. Whether the three main characters are fighting each
other or against the

Descriptive Essay About Reensburg
Regensburg
[Germany] is renowned for being home to some of the most charming looking towns in all of Europe.
Cities like [Cologne], [Dresden] and [Koblenz] (to name but a few) are postcard perfect treasures, yet
among all of them, you may be hard pressed to find one which is as enticing as Regensburg. The town
which sits on the confluence of three rivers (the Danube, Regen and Naab) is one of Germany s oldest
and seems to have the best of everything. Its stunning UNESCO listed centre is simply superb, the
cobblestone alleyways, imposing cathedral and myriad of other architectural gems make it an absolute
delight to explore. Small, compact and easily navigated on foot, Regensburg is one of the easiest and
most surprising destinations in [Bavaria]. Less known than others, it is ... Show more content on

This will help you get your bearings and give you an idea of where to spend more time and, perhaps,
which areas to avoid if they hold little interest to you. This is a great intro to the city.
#St Peter s Cathedral#
Regensburg s St Peter s Cathedral is the most imposing landmark in town, set just a block back from
the shores of the Danube and overshadowing just about everything else. The Cathedral Square was the
heart n soul of Regensburg for centuries and the most thriving trading and socialising hub. The
vertiginous spires, stained glass windows and intricately carved façade make this an absolute
masterpiece of Gothic architecture. Head here for Sunday Mass, despite your religious inclinations,
and you ll have the privilege of listening to the revered boys choir and amazing organ, both of which
are internationally renowned. You ll no doubt spend hours exploring this section of old town alone,
where you ll discover a gorgeous Treasury, Bishop s Palace and several Chapels dating back to the 9th

Taking a Look at the Aswan Dam
Assignment #2
The Aswan dam was constructed as a direct response to the rapid population growth within Egypt
during that time. With a population of 26 million by the time construction began on the dam, the
government of Egypt was worried about food and energy demands. The dams original thought was to
provide power and expand available water supplies outside of the flooding season to allow for higher
agricultural yields. The construction of the dam also thought to carry some secondary effect with it,
such as additional fishing grounds and channels for navigation. It was believed that the additional
energy production would also drive down the price of electricity, making it more affordable. A major
aspect of the dam project was the reservoir to hold the floodwaters and control the release rate.
However, the creation of the reservoir flooded a large upper land area requiring the relocation of over
50,000 Nubian residents. The relocating of residents because of dam construction is fairly common, as
over ten million residents of China of had to relocate as a result of dams, 1.5 million for the three
gorges dam alone. The relocation of the Nubians did have a positive effect over time as their
infectious disease rate dropped. Although the relocation did leave them unhappy as they were moved
further into the desert. The reservoir also negatively impacted archaeological sites in the area, as they
were flooded over. The reservoir it self was predicted by some scientists that

Haitian Bridge Scenario
SCENARIO The French government had donated that bridge to help the Haitian people. As I stated
before, this kind of bridge must not stay on the terrain for a long time. This time would be different
due to the peculiar situation of those villages. The cities of Dondon and San Rafael used the former
bridge for many purposes like to take children to school, go to the doctor appointments and day by day
displacements. The old bridge had fallen three years ago during a tropical storm. Since that day,
people used a ford path in the river to cross. They really needed that bridge.
PUTTING THE PLAN IN PRACTICE
Finally, our platoon arrived at the bridge place. Already on arrival, we realized the first problem. The
road that led to the bridge was very narrow. This greatly hindered the way that we had to put our
bridge material on the ground. Looking around us, we realized we had a solution. There was a private
land next to the perfect installation location to accommodate all material. I shifted up to the residence
with our sergeant who was a French interpreter. I knocked in her door and my partner explained the
entire situation. She listened us ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The first task was to level the land to assemble the bridge. An infantry platoon of the Chilean Army
was doing the safety of the work site. A large number of curious Haitians surrounded the place trying
not to miss any detail of the work. Our stuff was widespread, impairing the smooth progress of work.
Despite all this, we were all motivated and glad to help those people. We had a hard work long day. In
the end of day, we were exhausted. Next morning everything would start again. The place we were
was quite away from the city. Because of that, there was no internet signal available. We would be
nearly 15 days without contact with our families. Looking to the bright side of it was the opportunity
to spend time together exchanging

Emotional and Cognitive Intelligence
Cognitive intelligence and emotional intelligence have both been widely examined with regard to their
effect on individual workplace abilities. A critical comparison of the two concepts will be the basis of
this essay. Some theorists have hypothesised that the ease with which an employee can process
information and work towards solutions (our cognitive intelligence) is the key aspect in our ability to
contribute to the workplace, particularly in more complex environments (Viswesvaran Ones, 2002).
While others support the theory that our ability to use and adapt to emotion (our emotional
intelligence; EI) has the greatest affect on our organisational involvement (Cherniss, Extein, Goleman,
Weissberg, 2006). Through exploration of both ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It has been studied and elaborated upon so much, that what was initially a concise realm of specificity,
has particularly in the area of EI testing become convoluted by measures of social intelligence and
emotional and social competencies (Cherniss, 2010), which while similar to EI do distinctly deviate
from the generally accepted Mayer et al. 2000 model of it. Some measures even include tests of
cognitive intelligence, the concept with which it is supposedly in direct contrast. This has led to
criticism about whether or not measures of EI have construct validity (Cherniss, 2010).
From a theoretical standpoint the equivocality regarding an agreed definition of EI most specifically
affects the theorists studying the concept. From an organisational perspective the practical
implications of uncertainty surround the measurement of the concept, as opposed to its definition. For
example if an organisation relies heavily on a team which is cohesive, cooperative and connected to
one another the business may screen potential employees to ensure they will suit the role using a
measure of emotional intelligence. Here in lay the problem; if a construct cannot be clearly defined,
how can a test every truly have construct validity how can the variables indicating an particular
outcome ever be accurate, when we do not know exactly what we are measuring? Moreover, a focus
on EI within businesses and organisations could have significant drawbacks. Unavoidable though

The Grid Model And Its Contribution To International...
Question 1
This case is review of the grid model and its contributions to international organizational
development. It talks about how Grid International design its learning process such that it combines
leadership styles with self convincing learning methodology that creates motivation to change and
organizational development. The Grid has seven leadership styles that are based on varying concern
for people and results. The Grid approach to change takes a four step organization development
process that builds a culture of mutual trust respect and candor through discussion of personal values,
norms and behaviors against soundest behaviors needed to accomplish standard of excellence set by
participants themselves. The process begins with individual development, then move to intact team
development, group to group development and organization strategic planning. Grid international
approach to organizational development is applied by many organizations around the globe.
Question 2

and production exhibits trait of the sound ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In this phase, there is the development of group to group relationships. Team to team conflicts are
resolved and a cooperative relationship is build based on mutual trust and respect. Management and
unions shared understanding of cross functional roles and develop standard of excellence for working
together. The standards of excellence for working together is the collective agreement between
management and unions.
The concept of strategic human resource planning is seen in the final stage of Grid approach to
organizational development. In this stage where companies take full advantage of people common
language, standards of excellence, and skills in place to undertake organizational wide strategic
planning, it shows strategic human resource planning.

The Long Existence Of Street Vending
Ngan Huynh

Ethnography Essay
Ai mua banh beo hong? (Who wants to eat banh beo?)
Street vending is one of the fanciest experiences visitors should take when they come to Vietnam.
Imagine every morning when you wake up, somebody reaches your home and sells everything you
need to cook today. The long existence of street vending proves that Vietnamese people are really
open to old culture while adapting new shifting in their culture. Although the modernization of society
has impacts on the activities of street vendors, Vietnam will lose its culture without street vendors.
Street vendors have existed for hundreds of years in Saigon Dong Duong. In the 1880s, when the
French colonized Indochina, the city of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The area of Saigon Cho Lon is famous for selling many Chinese dishes. People can find anything they
need, even in a vendor s leaf knitting needle, there are still many types of farm product such as home
grown vegetables and home raised fish. Such loads of goods remained in Saigon until the 1970s. The
old Saigon also has a collection of street vendors for customers to eat. In the morning the
neighborhood was very busy, attracting the West living in the colony. Meeting on the street is an
inherent habit of the Vietnamese, making a very hectic pace of living on the streets of old Saigon.
Along with their bikes, vendors are usually seen wearing conical hats and shabby dresses. The most
ordinary instruments incorporate two baskets carried on shoulders or bikes. In Hanoi, life appears to
be so advantageous. Regardless of where you are, you can get anything you want at a cheap price.
Quang ganh (two baskets slung from each end of a wooden or bamboo pole) is their main tool, and the
vendors can ride it around the streets or remain at a road s corner. Street vendors work in harmony
with the lifestyle of Vietnamese people, who start a day early and go back home after the sunset. They
usually collect the food at the wholesale market early in the morning and move around the streets to
looking for buyers. You will hear Ai mua... means (who wants to eat/buy) whenever the vendor passes

  • 2. Reflection On Race And Race Sex and gender and Race and ethnicity were two topics that really stood out to me during the course of this class. The reason those topics caught my attention was because I didn t realize how unaware I was of all of the social problems surrounding those topics still going on today. I assumed we had already conquered racism and sexism in the 21st century with the civil rights movement with Martin Luther King jr., the 19th amendment granting women the right to vote, and women s rights movements in the 1960s. But I was clearly blind to the amount of institutional sexism and racism that still take place in education systems, athletics, the workplace, media, health care systems etc. Such as girls receiving less teacher attention and less useful feedback than boys, girls not being seen as strong enough for certain sports, workers of color being concentrated in lower paying jobs, members of ethnoracial minorities are less likely to have access to health insurance etc. I was fascinated with looking at the most common environments with a fresh pair of eyes and a different outlook on everyday life. Seeing how different the world I conjured up in my head is from reality was a wake up call for me to be more conscious of the unequal world we live in as well as the start of curiosity to understand how the world we live in works and why. I was always so oblivious to the inequalities that come with not being a male, but one of the important things I learned in this class was about the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Appreciation and Value for Life in Richard Wilbur s Poem... In humanity, one chooses to spend the most amount of time doing what they love in order to result in a satisfying and happily lived existence. Richard Wilbur expresses his appreciation and value of life throughout the poem, A Late Aubade . This poem is influenced and based off of Wilbur s strong relationship with his devoted wife. It emphasizes throughout detailed imagery how one must enjoy the moments they have and can share with their loved one. The existence of an individual is not about wasting time by being out and completing unnecessary jobs, it s about spending time doing what one loves to do. Wilbur is convincing his wife to not go about on her womanly daily activities; he wants her to stay and to take advantage of the few valuable moments life offers for them to be together. Throughout A Late Aubade , Wilbur stresses by applying descriptive language that in life, one must not waste any precious time and should rather focus on what they are passionate about. Richard Wilbur was born in New York City on March 1rst in 1921. He contained a strong literary background as he had come from a family of several journalists. Wilbur s father was a painter and as he recorded experiences of life through his paintings, Wilbur became inspired to do this through poetry. As he came from a Christian religious background, this was a great influence to him as he alludes to many Christian references throughout his works. He and his middle class family had moved to North Caldwell, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 5. Voices From The Heartland By Julie Carson Essay Voices from the Heartland is an anthology of essays that relates the stories of Oklahoma women. The authors share their experiences about their lives in Oklahoma: childhood experiences, relationships with neighbors, devastating times, life changing events. The essays are organized under a set of themes, not limiting the contributors to a specific topic. Some of the pieces are light hearted, such as Julie Carson s essay about her left handedness, while others deal with the struggles the authors have gone through because of their gender. While the gender issues accentuated in the book are conveyed by Oklahoma women, they are relevant to women everywhere, in America, other industrialized nations, as well as developing countries. Women are often confined to a set of ideals and expectations because of one simple fact: they are women. Many of the women who contributed to this book have faced gender stereotyping and discrimination. Instead of allowing traditional social norms to confine them to an unwanted lifestyle, they challenged these conventional ideals, risking failure and facing condemnation from strangers as well as people close to them. People often associate feminism with negativity and pessimism. In Feminism is a Dirty Word, Cindy Simon Rosenthal talks about how people refuse to define themselves as a feminist. However, the movement does not advocate for women s special privileges. Feminism celebrates social equality and supports the utilization of all talents. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Some say that it works while others go to prison or jail for crimes that they didn t commit. In this paper I will be covering specific examples from the book, The Innocent Man, where the defendant s rights were violated. John Grisham talks about innocent men being innocent and convicted for murder and sent to unlawful court proceedings. In this paper I will be focusing mainly on the violations of his 6th amendment. Judge Jones ruled that the tape was not a Brady violation. The tape was not really hidden; it was handed over after the trial, sort of a delayed submission (Grisham pg. 258) .This one piece of evidence alone would have been enough to change the opinions of the jury and change the outcome of the trail. However because Barney Ward did NOT show this video, this is a clear violation of Mr. Williamson s 6th Amendment, which guarantees that in all criminal prosecutions there must be an effective assistance of counsel (Cole and Smith pg. 84). In my opinion at no point in this trial was Ron Williamson s attorney an effective assistance of counsel . Now the last example of how Ron Williamson s 6th Amendment was violated was as the very beginning of all this. During the investigation of the crime scene, the police conducting the search had found two hair samples. Thus, deciding which possessions are worth fighting for is something most people grapple with in their lives. Because mortgage bills and other financial responsibilities have the power to cripple a family s finances, the story of the family portrayed by Mary Oliver in The Black Walnut Tree that decides to keep a Walnut Tree instead of paying off their mortgage is endearing and relatable. The work and time that it would take to dig and sow to maintain the tree is still less pain than the initial loss of the tree. Because they would feel loss if the tree were gone, the relationship is shown to have meaning. Personification also contributes to the relationship by making the tree a lively component of the family instead of a passive object in the back yard. A relationship necessitates at least two parties so it is necessary that the tree be a part of the family. At the end of the poem, the black walnut tree swings into another year when the family decides to keep it. This shows that the family respects the tree as its own entity and presence. • 19. Short Essay On Amelia Earhart The Lockheed air ship carrying American pilot Amelia Earhart and guide Frederick Noonan is reported missing on July 2, 1937. Earhart s round the world flight was cut short when her Lockheed Electra disappeared over the Pacific Ocean. She was born in Atchison, Kansas 1897. One year her and her family went on a Christmas vacation to visit her sister in Toronto, 1917. During this vacation, a pilot flew his plane near her. That Christmas vacation would have the biggest impact the rest of her life. She started flying at the age of 24 and later known as one of the most punctual female pilots. In 1927, Charles A. Lindbergh flew solo nonstop across the Atlantic Ocean. A year later, in 1928, the publisher of Lindbergh s autobiography, George P. Putnam, also Earhart s soon to be husband, invited Earhart to become the first woman to fly across the Atlantic Ocean. Departing from Miami first, on June 1, 1937, Earhart and Fred, the navigator, set out on her journey around the world. This trip would be 29,000 miles long heading east. As Earhart was approaching Howland Island, she sent out a message to the U.S. Drift Guard that she was lost and running low on fuel. To get fuel she would need to stop and land on Howland Island, which is only 1.5 miles long and a half mile wide. Landing on ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Bungee Jumping is an extreme sport, it requires the participant to jump from a bridge, crane or other high place while secured at the ankles with a nylon cased rubber band. From the mere sight of someone Bungee Jumping, one might assume that the act is very dangerous for obvious reasons, for example: The rope breaking there s nothing to save you down there, so why do so many people put their lives in a piece of elastic? Bungee Jumping relies on the restoring force of the elastic to protect the jumper from the fall below. Because of the Law of Conservation of Energy, the gravitational potential energy at the top of the jump is converted to elastic potential energy at the bottom of the jump. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It would show that it would potentially be life threatening to use the wrong material in real bungee jumping. It was proven that the elastic based cord (green) would be most suitable for bungee jumping. This is because the force exerted is more spaced out, and allows for a softer drop to equilibrium, rather than a violent, potentially deadly faster stop. The gradual restoring force is essential to bungee jumping. To come to a safe stop, restoring force is needed. Without said force, the force of the person jumping would be applied directly to the rope / elastic, causing it to potentially break and the person to fall. The rebound phase, consisting of dampened oscillatory motion, safely decreases the velocity of the jumper. The Galilean paradigm of the motion of constant masses, states every acceleration must be produced by a force. Bungee jumping is proof of this physics concept. When the person jumps, the gravity produces acceleration on the body, forcing the person down, and the rope attached with it. The restoring oscillations act upon the body to dampen the downwards forces. Because the Hooke s Law equation will deviate when the elastic fails, at a certain applied force; as materials cannot be compressed beyond a minimum size, or extended beyond a maximum size. The modern theory of elasticity generalises to state that the strain or deformation of an elastic material is proportional to the stress applied to it. Hooke s Law is crucial to this EEI because Hooke s Law calculates the extension of an elastic material from the spring constant (k) and the change in x, also known as ∆x and will determine the safest alternative for use in Bungee ... The Truth Behind The Collective Memory Just after the end the First World War, a phenomenal fear emerged in many societies that prevalent chaos and struggle to restore peace in politics, economics and the society itself, was irrevocable consequence of men brutalized by the war cruelty. The hope that war was to end war had been proven to be far from truth. Hence, it is ironic that the need to somehow legitimize war experience, created what George L. Mosse calls the Myth of the War Experience. Such view, based upon no matter whether a real or just presupposed threat, meant that foe was stereotyped. For instance, Mosse recalls that pre existed tensions and dislike of Jews associated with Bolshevism turned to become a massive hatred, imposing that they were the only to be blamed for Germany s after war hardships. This contempt to the enemy was exposed through various forms of propaganda which became inseparable contrast of the ideal of manliness. Manliness, together with Camaraderie, Mosse suggests, was another part of the Myth of the War Experience which exerted influence over the brutalization process. Upsurge of the warrior ideal the man of steel , indirectly encouraged barbarism within the society. Since manumission, the concept of race has evolved through the meaning societies have given it. While the idea of race is merely conceptual it has significant social and political effects. More specifically, through racial politics, these countries have been able to incorporate race in their agendas and implement racial politics in their laws and policies in such a way that perpetuates racial ideologies. One of the methods used to understand the role of racial politics and its effect on racial ideologies and vice versa is the race cycle model. The purpose of the race cycle model is to demonstrate how racial ideologies are improved, worsened, or maintained, but fails to explain how the cycle can lead to multiple, asymmetrical outcomes as depicted by the racial politics of Haiti and the responses of other Latin American and the United States following the Haitian Revolution. The race cycle model begins with what Sawyer (2006) calls the old equilibrium. This old equilibrium represents the status quo surrounding the racial politics and ideologies in a state. In the old equilibrium, Haiti was formerly a French colony known as Saint Domingue on the island of Hispaniola. However, when the economy begins to slow down, the first people asked to leave and give up their jobs are the very same people they invited and encouraged to come. Since many business owners were used to employing Mexicans, they still hire them although it is against laws and regulations. Americans using undocumented Mexican workers tend to pay them less, put them in more dangerous jobs, and make them work harder because they believe Mexicans love to work. While this is great for America and American businesses, it is not as beneficial to the Mexicans they take advantage of. The second modification will be the porting of the barrel to help some of the muzzle climb. Most younger gun enthusiasts associate a ported barrel directly to a Glock. I ve personally had the same train of thought as well. The benefits of porting an old Shotgun become almost ideal for any application. Most younger folks will probably seek out porting to fit the bill of 3 Gun Comps or for use in the good old outdoors. Either way you cannot go wrong. Particularly if the shooter is a small framed individual that has to absorb the majority of recoil from slugs or other heavy loads. Not only will the shooter s shoulder forgive them it will also allow them more longevity on the gun ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 43. Taking a Look at the Aswan Dam Assignment #2 The Aswan dam was constructed as a direct response to the rapid population growth within Egypt during that time. With a population of 26 million by the time construction began on the dam, the government of Egypt was worried about food and energy demands. The dams original thought was to provide power and expand available water supplies outside of the flooding season to allow for higher agricultural yields. The construction of the dam also thought to carry some secondary effect with it, such as additional fishing grounds and channels for navigation. It was believed that the additional energy production would also drive down the price of electricity, making it more affordable. A major aspect of the dam project was the reservoir to hold the floodwaters and control the release rate. However, the creation of the reservoir flooded a large upper land area requiring the relocation of over 50,000 Nubian residents. The relocating of residents because of dam construction is fairly common, as over ten million residents of China of had to relocate as a result of dams, 1.5 million for the three gorges dam alone. The relocation of the Nubians did have a positive effect over time as their infectious disease rate dropped. Although the relocation did leave them unhappy as they were moved further into the desert. The reservoir also negatively impacted archaeological sites in the area, as they were flooded over. The reservoir it self was predicted by some scientists that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

As I stated before, this kind of bridge must not stay on the terrain for a long time. This time would be different due to the peculiar situation of those villages. The cities of Dondon and San Rafael used the former bridge for many purposes like to take children to school, go to the doctor appointments and day by day displacements. The old bridge had fallen three years ago during a tropical storm. Since that day, people used a ford path in the river to cross. They really needed that bridge. PUTTING THE PLAN IN PRACTICE Finally, our platoon arrived at the bridge place. Already on arrival, we realized the first problem. The road that led to the bridge was very narrow. This greatly hindered the way that we had to put our bridge material on the ground. Looking around us, we realized we had a solution. • 45. Emotional and Cognitive Intelligence Cognitive intelligence and emotional intelligence have both been widely examined with regard to their effect on individual workplace abilities. A critical comparison of the two concepts will be the basis of this essay. Some theorists have hypothesised that the ease with which an employee can process information and work towards solutions (our cognitive intelligence) is the key aspect in our ability to contribute to the workplace, particularly in more complex environments (Viswesvaran Ones, 2002). While others support the theory that our ability to use and adapt to emotion (our emotional intelligence; EI) has the greatest affect on our organisational involvement (Cherniss, Extein, Goleman, Weissberg, 2006). Through exploration of both ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It has been studied and elaborated upon so much, that what was initially a concise realm of specificity, has particularly in the area of EI testing become convoluted by measures of social intelligence and emotional and social competencies (Cherniss, 2010), which while similar to EI do distinctly deviate from the generally accepted Mayer et al. 2000 model of it. Some measures even include tests of cognitive intelligence, the concept with which it is supposedly in direct contrast. This has led to criticism about whether or not measures of EI have construct validity (Cherniss, 2010). From a theoretical standpoint the equivocality regarding an agreed definition of EI most specifically affects the theorists studying the concept. From an organisational perspective the practical implications of uncertainty surround the measurement of the concept, as opposed to its definition. For example if an organisation relies heavily on a team which is cohesive, cooperative and connected to one another the business may screen potential employees to ensure they will suit the role using a measure of emotional intelligence. Here in lay the problem; if a construct cannot be clearly defined, how can a test every truly have construct validity how can the variables indicating an particular outcome ever be accurate, when we do not know exactly what we are measuring? Moreover, a focus on EI within businesses and organisations could have significant drawbacks. Unavoidable though ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
