Theme Of World Shaker
Richard Harland a prominent writer published a text named Worldshaker .Worldshaker
was supposedly initiated during the late 20th Century. The juggernaut divides people
into groups, the uppers class, which is made up of many different families an example
would be Porpentine s, then there is the lower class who are the Filthy.. In this essay, it
will be stated how individuals have the power to create massive change. This will be
proven within the text itself and furthermore reinforced using evidence from the society
we live in today. Moreover, it will state how those with high status use the control they
are given to people with no authority of how they re living whatsoever. Additionally, it
will be said that those who are in elite classes and... Show more content on

Whether you are coming from the lowest of ranks, or even higher. In fact, those who
started with nothing created the biggest of changes. For instance, Riff herself coming
from the lowest of decks being a filthy and a female, the supposed creatures of World
shaker, helped to create peace and equality with the upper decks and managed to
create an unforgettable revolution that changed everything. The theme of the essay
does not just direct on the text itself, individuals in our society today created immense
change.. To give an illustration of what this essay is trying to say, looking at the case
of Malala. At the time Malala was fifteen years old girl when she shockingly got shot
because she was fighting for girls education, luckily she survived and became one of
the world s biggest inspirations, until this day Malala is still fighting for girls education

fighting for her beliefs and equality between men and women seemed like an ambition
that could never be accomplished but eventually it was, and she was able to create the

Notes On Wild Fruits
Wild berries. Medical wild strawberries are categorized as a member of the Rose
family taxonomy. They are found throughout the Alberta province in western Canada,
but not common in the southeast. The leaves of the strawberry have three toothed
leaflets and five white petals. The leaves of the wild berries are delicate as opposed to
the typical leaves which are less delicate. The unripe berriesare green and coat with a
slightly red color. The ripper the berries the more it adds up the red color to the
berries. The ordinary strawberries, which are grown for commercial purpose are
considered to be of hybrid origin between the wild berries. The smell of the berries is
almost synonymous with the typical berries, but the difference lies in the size of the fruit,
wild strawberries are relatively small compared to the first berries. The fruits grow
wild and are found in the lowest valleys in moist soils of woods beside streams. They
grow in open well drained places in the lowland of subalpine zones. Wild strawberries
are perennial herbs that grow from a fibrous root. They are eaten by some birds and
mammals. (Jump Start: A Northwest Renaissance Anthology 2009) The wild
strawberries also known as the Alpine strawberries are very popularly used for
therapeutic purposes. Traditionally all the parts of the wild berries, the leaves, fruits,
roots, and the stem was used to treat various disorders. The roots of the strawberry plant
were used commonly for
My Favorite Singer Since I
There s always a mountain in front of me, Seems I m always climbin and fallin and
climbin But I keep on tryin (Trace Adkins). This is a quote from one of Trace Adkins
songs called I m Trying. I love this part in the chorus because I have gone through
many struggles to make me not to continue to try or make me give up; however, I have
not given up, I kept on trying. For my pieces I choose three songs, that are very close
to me and that have been very close to my heart, which makes these songs important to
me and special to me. These three songs include Chrome, I m Trying and You re
Gonna Miss This all by Trace Adkins. I choose these songs because each one of these
songs has changed me or someone I know and love in a certain way, which have
mostly been in a positive way. Trace Adkins has been my favorite singer since I can
remember. I got to meet him in person when I had cancer and he even took me on
stage with him to watch the concert, so he has always been an important artist that I
like to listen to in my spare time or to cheer me up. Trace was born January 13, 1962
in Springhill, Louisiana. He was born with the name Tracy Darrell Adkins; however,
he went as Trace because it is more manly than Tracy. Also, he is very tall. With a
height of six feet, six inches. I remember when meeting him he had to duck his head
when he walked down the hall way or he would have hit his head on the ceiling.

Kinsella (1976) defined protein functionality as those physical and chemical properties
which affect the behavior of proteins in food systems during processing, storage,
prepration and consumption. Proteins are linked to functional properties such as
solubility, water binding, gelation, foaming and color, whereas starch is associated
with solubility, swelling, water absorption, viscosity, and gelatinize (Bressani, 1985).
Functional properties are physicochemical properties that give information on how a
food ingredient will behave in food system. The functionality of plantain and okara
flours can logically be attributed to its chemical components as determined by raw
materials processing and storage conditions. Properties such as solubility, viscosity,
water and fat binding, emulsification, foaming and gelation are of general interest
(Hermansson, 1979). The method of Okaka and Potter (1977) with some
modifications was used for determining the swelling capacity of okara and plantain
flours. Foaming capacity and foaming stability were determined as described by
Narayana and Narasinga Rao, (1982) with slight modifications. Fracture strength of
biscuits was measured with the help of Texture Analyzer (model TA XT2i, Stable
Micro systems, Haslemere, U.K) using a 3 point Bending Rig and 5 kg load cell. Biscuit

Charlotte Beers At Ogilvy And Mather Essay examples
BACKGROUND
Charlotte Beers became Ogilvy Mather s first outsider CEO after its acquisition by
WPP Group Plc in 1991. According to her memo dated May 19th, Beers objective was
to re invent the mega agency, whose inertia and complacency had eroded its
competitiveness since the 1980s. In fact, Beer s tenure at Ogilvy constituted a re creation
of the agency, redefining its aims, processes, people, and structure in reaction to the
demands placed by the changing advertising industry.
ANALYSIS
The main issue that confronted Beers was initiating and instituting organizational change
at the core level. She assumed the leadership of Ogilvy at a time when the organization
was internally bleeding. Charismatic founder David Ogilvy s ... Show more content on

Furthermore, Ogilvy s chronic failure to institute systems for managing collaboration
across regions contributed to a general lack of financial discipline, lack of focus on cost,
and lack of structured decision making that had cumulative negative effects on the
company. As a result, Ogilvy s competitive advantage as the most local of the
internationals, the most international of the locals was undermined by competitors
consistently lower costs.
Compounding Ogilvy s problems was the perception that media advertising was a mere
commodity, leading bargain hunting clients fled to new, lower cost boutique creative
shops. Ultimately, despite its consistent 15% up market performance, and the success of
the independent subsidiary Ogilvy Direct, Ogilvy lost over $100 million in advertising
contracts from longtime clients including Unilever, Shell, Seagram s, Nutrasweet,
Campbell, Roy Rogers and American Express. Its net income actually decreased by 2.8%
in 1991.
Clearly, beleaguered Ogilvy s new CEO needed to prevent further decline by instituting
changes that were long overdue:
1.Redefine the corporate vision based on Brand Stewardship;
2.Modify the organizational structure to facilitate collaboration among the company s
various regional and local offices and central office; and
3.Resolve the centralization vs. localization issue more definitively, in terms of authority
and compensation. OBSTACLES TO CHANGE Beers
Modern Warfare
Modern warfare ranges from small to large campaigns with military fundamentals shaping
the battlefield. However, none has a more significant value as the Napoleonic eras.
Although France is no longer a dominant power, its military fundamentals influence the
United States (U.S.) military.
The U.S. military employs three Napoleonic era fundamentals of Command and Control
(C2), professional military, and nationalism. These fundamentals shape the U.S. military
during peace and war. Maintaining peace and winning wars are important. To do that,
large capable militaries are required with C2 and Napoleon recognized this. Napoleon
task organized the Army into Armies, Corps, Divisions, and Brigades, centralizing C2.

CMTCs provided the foundation for CAM units deploying to a Full Spectrum of
Operations battlefield.
Although conflicts tailor training, training is the number one reason the U.S. Army is
successful. Training is not something we do. It is what we do! A professional military is
not successful as a nation of support. France experienced a revolution, one that brought
change from mass politics to mass warfare to Europe. Napoleon recognized this and
benefited from the transition from dynastic to national warfare. The French revolution
had realized the idea for the citizen Soldier, committed to the cause of the people, for
which he fought. Napoleon exploited nationalism on his own troops, rallying them to
success. National success depends on every citizen. As the French Army mobilized, its
citizens did, too. Young men will go to battle; married men will forge arms and transport
supplies; women will make tents, uniforms, and serve in hospitals; children will pick
rags; old men will have themselves carried to public squares to inspire the courage of the
warriors, and to preach hatred of kings and the unity of the Republic. Nationalism
brought change to the world, as monarchies were overthrown and people governments
formed. Although the U.S. formed prior to the French Revolution, its Nationalism has
been prevalent for over 200 years. National support defines U.S. military success, as it
did for Napoleon. When conflicts are imminent, the U.S. military mobilizes

History Of The Delian League
In my perspective, the Delian League was both successful and unsuccessful, but were by
and large more successful than not.
The Delian League was mutual alliance and protection against the Persians after the
first Persian War, mainly to make the Persians pay for the invasion and to free the
Greeks that were under Persian rule (Gill, 2016, 2). All members of the League
contributed both silver and ships to the war efforts, but it was Athens that dominated
(Brand, n.d., pp. 28). With Athens leading with a strong naval military, the Delian
League pushed back the Persian s second invasion of Greece and were able to liberate
Thrace and the Aegean of Persian strongholds (Gill, 2016, 11).
Although the Delian League was successful in holding off the Persian invasions, Athens
had taken advantage of their naval military might. To this extent, the formation of the
Delian League was unsuccessful. The members of the Delian League grew tired of
Athens abusive power, which eventually led to the Peloponnesian Warled by Sparta
against Athens. The eventual result of the war devastated and humbled Athens (Brand,
n.d., pp. 28). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There was a common judiciary which was always to the reach of the member citizens of
the Athens. They ensured that this form of government was accessible to the Aegean.
Above all, there was an extensive rebuilding of the Athen s buildings and the entire city.
This was started by the Pericles and Parthenon whicg the League treasury financied.
‎In conclusion, I found that the formation of the Delian League was more successful
than not. Together, all members, led by Athens navy, were able to benefit from pushing
off the Persian invasions, which also resulted in some city states being liberated from
Persian rule. The only ones that were unsuccessful later on were the Athenians, which
was the result of their own abusive actions.
Nicaraguan Gender Inequality
Gender inequality has been a crucial issue throughout the years all around the world for
the past few decades. Women are mistreated and often oppressed by patriarchal societies.
Women s rights are often dismissed and it is believed that women are not capable of
being independent which has highly affects women population.
A group of women in Nicaragua organized movements to fight over land ownership by
men. They are seeking plots of land to farm in order to contribute to the food security of
their families and of the population at large (silva,2016). Nicaragua is a developing
country that is male dominated making it difficult for women to have access to political
and economical matters. The movement The Federation of Nicaraguan Women Farmers

When we mention politics people tend to think about voting for an individual, running as
a politician (masculine), but that is not it. Informal politics are crucial for gender equality
and minority group s rights. Like movements that include local community based and
national and international organizations, that enforce women s desire to become
independent and to be respected as such. One issue that women face is not being taken
seriously, protests and movements are sometimes not taken seriously by masculine
politics. Nicaragua as being a patriarchal country lacks to give attention to women who
are seeking an opportunity in the farming industry.
In conclusion, the lack of women s rights are not only affecting women. It also affects
men, because while they refuse to give power and rights to women, they waste time and
waste women s valuable time as well. In regards of women s movements in Nicaragua
demanding land to work and make profit independently from men, The Federation is not
willing to give up until the law is being

a problem that has to be dealt with there are two categories that conflict is put in external
and internal. External is also divided into two man vs. man which is a conflict between
two characters and man vs. nature which is a characteragainst the setting (environment)
and sometimes society. Internal conflict is man vs. self this is when a character has a
conflict with themselves. Three stories that will be stated throughout this writing are
Pedestrian , The Sniper , and Marigolds . The Pedestrian is placed in the future where
technology has basically taken over. The Sniper is placed during war. The last story is
Marigolds this story is placed during the time of the Great Depression. These stories are
all different but just like all stories have one thing in common this is the Conflict.

Starbucks have introduces chicken tikka Panini, paneer roles and large variety of tea

Food portions are suitable to price and consumer habits. 4.Innovative Hybrid Supply

Dreyfus Affair was an important event. The Dreyfus Affair was a political scandal,
which divided France from the 1890 s to the early 1900 s. It was a very important
event in history. 1894 marked the start of a revolution for Jewish people, as a French
Jewish artillery officer, Captain Alfred Dreyfus was accused of treason (Isseroff). The
accusations against Dreyfus were false all because he was a Jew. Following his
accusation Dreyfus accumulated many followers that became known as Dreyfusards
and there were also those who were against him called anti Dreyfusards (Drefler). Alfred

He was convicted of treason by court martial in December 1894 and sentenced to life
imprisonment in solitary confinement on Devil s Island, a prison off the coast of
French Guiana (Derfler). Before his deportation to Guiana he was publicly degraded
and humiliated. This false conviction was based on a list called the bordereau, which
contained admission to secret French military information (Dreyfus). This list was
picked out of the garbage pail of Maximilian Von Schwartzkoppen, a German military
attach in Paris (Johnson). Many years passed before the truth was uncovered, Dreyfus
was innocent and although false information was used he was an easy target because
the writing in the bordereau matched his handwriting and the information came from
an artillery officer (Johnson). In 1899, Alfred Dreyfus was granted a presidential
pardon and it is unwritten that he had committed treason against Dragnev 3 France
(Martin). It was a matter of life or death because Dreyfus feared that he would not
survive the well known penal colony. The bordereau looked to connect an artillery
officer since it intended access to specific information regarding a new French artillery
weapon called the Modele 1890 120mm Banquet howitzer (Read). Along with the fact
that Dreyfus was a highly skilled artillery officer, he was

(Greenberg. Pg 450). This may explain Blake s derision for the sales group; as he
closes his rant, he says, I came here because Mitch and Murray asked me to. They
asked me for a favor. I said the real favor, follow my advice and fire your f a because a
loser is a loser. He clearly believes they are not great people and are not born with the
attributes to be leaders. The great person theory describes born leaders have special
traits in common; as Greenberg describes, born leaders share traits and characteristics
of: Drive, Honesty and integrity, Leadership motivation, Self confidence, Cognitive
ability, Knowledge of the business, Creativity, and Flexibility. (Pg. 450). While Blake
may have some of the attributes, he did not possess the attribute for Flexibility .
Greenberg defines Flexibility is the, Ability to adapt to needs of followers and
requirements of situation. (Pg. 450). Blake did not adapt his approach to create
inspiration and motivation for the sales crew. He used pressure to power his influence
by giving them an ultimatum or they face losing their job; and pressure to produce a
sale in order to be rewarded with a valuable lead to another sale.
Motivation is not only about money. As Greenberg points out, motivation and job
performance are not synonymous. (Pg. 215) Occasionally, even with high motivation, the

hills in the coastal town of Bentota. The estate is set in the wet tropical zone and is warm
throughout the year.
The inspirations for building the garden of Lunuganga were many, the prime being the
ambition to outshine the garden of Brief by his brother Bevis Bawa. Also, when
analyzed it can be stated that overall construct of the garden was one that combined
many memories of his travels to the western world and that of the native Sri Lankan
landscape i.e. formed of water, tropical forests, boulder gardens, royal pleasure gardens
and bungalow gardens during the British rule in Sri Lanka. From the beginning, it was
conceived as an extension of the surroundings a garden within a larger garden (Robson
104).
A closer inquiry into the space planning of Lunuganga garden reveals, that it unveils
itself one after the other, it was not planned at once but was conceived as a series of
spaces combining different parts of the garden into a variety of sequences. It can be
experienced in parts i.e. each part presents a different story
The Determination Of The Rio Grande
Blair, Akhil, Kyle, Divya (1C 9A) The Determination of the Rio Grande being the Texas
official border was influenced by many policies and beliefs. Although one large piece
was influenced by the Manifest Destiny. Manifest Destiny was a belief that God wanted
America to expand all the way to the west coast of the American Continent. The
Americans wanted the Rio Grandeto be the Texasborder because of this belief. However,
Mexicoobjected and claimed that the Nueces River was the Texas border. The United
States did not want the Nueces River to be the border because it did not fulfill the
Manifest Destiny. So then the only way to make the Rio Grande the border was to push
Mexican out of the area. American had to make Mexico recognize that the Texas border
was the Rio Grande.
The Rio Grande is the fifth longest river to run through the United States and the 20th
longest in the world. It flows 1,900 miles from the San Juan Mountains of Southwestern
Colorado to the Gulf of Mexico. Along its way, it travels 175 miles through Colorado,
470 miles through New Mexico, and the remaining 1,240 miles through Texas. Currently,
the river is used as a border from Texas (United States), to Chihuahua, Coahuila, Nuevo
LeГіn, and Tamaulipas (Mexico). During this conflict, Mexico had a different point of
view. They Claimed and wanted the Texas Border to be the Nueces river. This was
because Mexico wanted most of the rich land in Texas. They also thought that the
Mexicans had the right to
Advantages Of A Holding Company
HOLDING COMPANY
A holding company is a parent company that owns sufficient voting shares in a company
to control its management, governing policies. A holding company buys or otherwise
obtains a majority percentage of stock in a company, which becomes and known as
subsidiary company. Sometimes a pure holding company distinguishes itself by adding
Holding or Holdings to its name.
As per company law, a company which is controlled by another company is called as a
subsidiary company and the company which is controlling another company is called as
a holding company. The control can be via control of management or via ownership of
shares.

DIFFERENCE BETWEEN A HOLDING COMPANY AND SUBSIDIARY COMPANY
The terms holding and subsidiary are used to express the managerial, financial, legal
and principal relationships between special types of business organization, which
includes financial institutions and corporations. A holding company means a body
which is incorporated to acquire and grip the majority of shares of other companies; a
subsidiary is a business whose mass of the shares is owned by a holding company.
The differences between a holding company and subsidiary company are as under:
1) On the basis of Ownership
Holding company buys the bulk of the shares in another company, which becomes as its
subsidiary. A holding company must control more than 50% of company s stock before
it s considered a subsidiary. Holding companies may in addition hold other holding
companies in this case they are known as top holding companies. The holding company
has all privileges and farm duties of ownership for its subsidiaries. The subsidiaries are
not autonomously owned; often continue to function as individual entities, though key
corporate decisions are made by holding
South America Population Growth
In this project, I will examine the relative rate of population growth for the individual
countries of a selected region. I chose ten countries in Africa: Morocco, Egypt, Sudan,
Mali, Nigeria, Kenya, Zambia, Angola, and South Africa, one country from Eastern
Europe, Estonia, one country from Asia, China, one country from the Middle East, Iran,
one country from South America, Bolivia, and the United States. Below, I will rank each
of the countries from highest to lowest in each of the categories concerning population
growth and describe their relationships. Population growthis influenced by multiple
factors, such as, population policies, culture, and geography.
In figure 1 and figure 2 above, I have ranked the countries that I have chosen in order
from highest to lowest total fertility rate (TFR) and maternal mortality rate (MMR). The
data shows that the TFR is congruous with the MMR within most of the countries. The ...

Population policies vary by region. Countries experiencing overpopulation restrict
population growth, while countries experiencing under population, such as Estonia, have
adopted pro natalist policies (Pittsburgh Post Gazette, 2006). In Africa, there are some
countries experiencing overpopulation and some experiencing under population, this
results in the need for different policies in different countries of the continent (Stratfor,
2013). Cultural factors include religious attitudes towards birth control, status gain from
having children, the role of women in society, and sexual morality. Geographic factors
include the environmental conditions and vulnerability and resilience to natural
disasters. One example of the environment influencing population growth and distribution
is Mali. Due to poor agriculture and harsh desert life, Mali s population is lower than
other northern desert regions (Maps of World,
Heroism In Josephe Kosinski s Film Only The Brave
Josephe Kosinski s recent film, Only the Brave, is a brilliantly directed film based on
a true story of the Granite Mountain Hotshots. Kosinski does an impressive job on
incorporating vital pieces of the real story, for example, the ancient Juniper tree
(which still stands today) express a powerful reminder of incredible men who risked
their lives and sacrificed their families to protect numerous people. It is by far one of
the top movies I have seen this year. This movie takes you through an extreme variety
of emotions, but in the end, will leave you speechless. Only the Brave, blends real life
heroism with a gripping natural disaster. This amazing portrait of the Granite Mountain
Hotshots shows their journey from the Prescott Wildland Fire Team, a second level
firefighting unit, to a courageous group of elite heroes fighting unpredictable beasts. The
movie is led by Eric Marsh, (Josh Brolin) the superior of his crew, and supported... Show

Hotshot teams take them serious. They ignore Marsh s predicted path of the Cave Creek
Complex Wildfire, which leads to the destruction of the nearby town. This tragedy
illustrates Marsh as an experienced asset that should be leading the fight, rather than
doing clean up. This inspires Marsh to seek out the help of Duane Steinbrink (Jeff
Bridges) the Prescott Wildland Fire Chief, to push for the team s evaluation for a Hotshot
position. This accomplishment leads them to become the first municipal hand crew to
ever be certified as Hotshots. Now with their newly received title, the Granite Mountain
Hotshots continue to show their superior skills by defeating the fires all around the
country. That is until the climax of the movie when they meet the greatest opponent they
have ever had to face, the Yarnell Fire in
The Four Seasons By Antonio Lucio Vivaldi
Antonio Lucio Vivaldi, outstanding composer of The Four Seasons and more
specifically Gloria in Excelsis Deo, was born March the 4th 1678 and died July 28th
1741. Vivaldi was born in Venice, Italy: a city in northeastern Italy sited on a group of
one hundred seventeen small islands separated by canals and linked by bridges. He died
in Veinna, Austria, the capital and largest city of Austria, and one of the nine states of
Austria, Vienna is also Austria s primary city.
Antonio Vivaldi is a well known composer of the Baroque music style. Baroque music
ranges from 1600 1750 where Vivaldi neatly falls into. Baroque music established
opera, cantata, oratorio, concerto, and sonata as musical genres and the vocabulary used
for the music is still common in our musical vocabulary today. Baroque music is a large
piece of what we deem classical music . The music style is what enlarged our size, range
and instrumental complexity of the music. Common composers of the Baroque style are
Johann Sebastian Bach, George Frideric Handel, Alessandro Scarlatti, Domenico Scarlatti,
Antonio Vivaldi, Henry Purcell, Georg Philipp Telemann, Jean Baptiste Lully, Arcangelo
Corelli, Tomaso Albinoni, François Couperin, Denis Gaultier, Claudio Monteverdi,
Heinrich SchГјtz, Jean Philippe Rameau, Jan Dismas Zelenka, and Johann Pachelbel.
Antonio Vivaldi composed aforementioned The Four Seasons a four part musical series
from 1717 to 1721, as well as his two most well known operas Argippo and Bajazet.
Evaluation Of A Firm That Had A Very Successful It Driven...
INTRODUCTION
This Case study takes into examination a firm that had a very successful IT driven
strategy to satisfy customer needs. This company used this strategy to double its desired
goal and even quadruple its goals. For this case analysis, a number of factors will be
discussed.
Gary Comer founded lands End an apparel company, in the state of Chicago in the early
1960 s. This company did not have apparel sales and production as its main business
scope when it started out, but it started out as a sailing equipment sales company. In the
1980, s this company changed the scope pf its business and branched into the sales and
production of clothes and home furnishings moving to Wisconsin. At this point in the
history of home stores, JC ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In that era, the major brands never had stores in the suburban and rural areas, and this
was limiting their customer base.
In the late 1990 s, the advent of the Internet was already widely known and it was a
gold mine which had not yet been explored by many industries at this point in time in
the history of merchandise sales. The huge players in the industry used catalogs, mail
orders and huge booklets were being mailed to customers and potential customers so
they could buy merchandise over the phone. This was a huge black hole of resources
being drained and it was affecting the profitability levels of these companies.
Lands End decided to carry out tests by making use of the technology available to them
The Internet. With this method the company decided to place their catalogs with just a
fewer pages on the internet so it could be accessible to many more customers at their
own ease and also at the same time reduce the costs associated with production and
mailing of catalogs to customers.
Taking a step higher the company also decided to introduce an additional concept of
Electronic commerce offering (online ordering). At that time, there was a demand for
customizable products from Cars, to beauty products and some forms of apparel.
However, this was going to be a novel idea by Lands End to make their products
customizable online. This was

Al Gore and Governor George W. Bush are running for the Presidency. The two
candidates are in Presidential Debate to allow the voters to get an understanding of
where they each stand on certain positions and policies. Bush and Gore have some
similarities and differences on certain positions and policies discussed in the Presidential
Debates. Education is an issue discussed in the Presidential Debate. Bush and Gore both
agree that there is nothing more precious than educating a child. The two Presidential
Candidates support the issue of spending $170 billion over 10 years for children in
public schools to achieve high standards. They each want to rebuild outdated buildings,

For instance, Gore supports the current child tax credit of $500, but Bush supports
doubling the child tax credit to $1,000. Bush pledges to veto any income tax increase.
Also, their proposals for the non Social Security surplus differs. Bush proposes to use
the non Social Security surplus in the following manner: $1.3 trillion tax cut; $475
billion in spending on domestic programs; and $265 billion in reserve. He would
eliminate the national debt by 2016. Gore proposes to use the $2.17 non Social Security
surplus in the following manner: $480 billion in targeted tax cuts; $360 billion to shore
up the Medicare program; $870 billion in spending on domestic programs; and $300
billion would be left in reserve. His proposal would eliminate the national debt by 2012.
Another policy that Bush and Gore agree mostly on is Health Care. The two Presidential
Candidates both support the children s health insurance program (CHIP).
Bush and Gore agree on allowing low income parents to buy into CHIP. They each
support the issue of using part of the federal budget surplus to offer a voluntary
prescription drug benefit for Medicare beneficiaries. Bush and Gore also support the

My Philosophy Of Education And Education
My Philosophy of Education
When trying coming up with a personal philosophy of education, I had to ask myself
what the purpose of education is. To me, the purpose of education is to teach students
knowledge that is needed to make it through school and to succeed in the world after
graduation. Anyone can go into teaching, but not every teacher can teach. Teachers go
above and beyond to introduce methods, philosophies, and strategies to help their
students learn, as well as, retain the information.
The type of method that I plan to use in the classroom would be the inquiry based
method. The reason I chose this type of method is because it is hands on, and I myself
learn this way. On the first day of class, I will do a survey with the students to find out
what types of learners they are. All students learn differently. For example: VAK learning
styles, which are Visual, Auditory, and Kinesthetic. In order for me to have a mental
note of how the students learn, I will seat them in groups based on which type of
learner they are. This way I can make sure I apply different learning techniques in my
teaching. When doing group work, I will mix the groups up with the different learners,
so that they can be introduced to the other ways of learning as well.
I believe in the Progressivism Philosophy, which considers that the views of nature are
ever changing. This type of philosophy helps the children to develop problem solving
abilities. When the students come across a challenge, they
Unit D1 Volcanor
Unit D was differentiated into two basaltic tephra subunits (D1 and D2) and a
diatomaceous marl (D3). The maar tephra apron is comprised primarily of unit D1
(Figures 4 and 6), which has been described in detail by Fisher and Waters (1970:166

towards the distal portions of the apron. It is thinly and distinctly bedded and composed
predominantly of ash and finely fragmented sedimentary rockinterbedded with
occasional, scoria rich layers of coarse ash and very fine lapilli. These deposits are
interpreted as pyroclastic base surge deposits associated with a phreatomagmatic, maar
forming eruption based on the presence of low angle cross bedding, round accretionary...

Although the luminescence ages appear somewhat younger than the radiocarbon
based age estimates for the two eruptive phases, the 2 sigma ranges of the dates
indicate that they are consistent (Figure 8). Because they are from the same
geological context, the two luminescence ages for the C3 basalt flow associated with
the initial eruptive phase can be statistically combined using the OxCal v. 4.2 program
(Ramsey, 2009) to reduce the standard error, resulting in a luminescence age estimate
of 12,720 В± 610 yr (Figure 8). The 2 sigma range of this combined luminescence age
falls within the 2 sigma radiocarbon based age range estimate of 13,560 13,330 cal yr
BP. Likewise, the two luminescence ages of 10,250 В± 805 yr and 10,420 В± 765 yr
associated with the second, phreatomagmatic eruptive phase overlap with the 2 sigma
radiocarbon based age estimate of 12,160 11,720 cal yr BP. The luminescence sample
associated with Zuni Salt Lake lacustrine highstand deposits at profile 13 5, which must
post date the phreatomagmatic eruption based on stratigraphic relationships, produced an
age of 10,935 В± 980 yr, in better agreement with the radiocarbon evidence associated
with the second eruptive phase. It is possible that we underestimated the soil moisture
associated with the UIC 3476 and 3421 luminescence samples, which could explain why
the two luminescence based maar eruption ages are
The Native American Spirit Quest Of A Half Indian Foster...
Sherman Alexie s novel Flight explores the Native American spirit quest of a half
Indian foster child. Alexie brilliantly invites readers into the mind of a cynical fifteen
year old who calls himself Zits. Zits uses humor, violence, and shock value to cope
with how he has been treated by his absent father and the foster system. Zits uses his
vocabulary as a defense mechanism which reveals how comfortable he feels in
various situations. The following paragraphs analyze how Zits speech patterns
provide insight to how he feels about certain characters and situations. Zits uses a
distinctive naming system when he is unaware of a character s real name. Zits method
of naming characters reveals how comfortable he is talking about them. He bases most
of his names on appearance. For instance, Zits sees a young Indian boy while he is in
the body of Gus and he observes that the Indian can t be more than five years old and
he holds a bow (pg. 59). Zits then refers to this character as Bow Boy for the remainder
of the book (pg. 59). Zits uses this method for naming almost every character he meets.
Characters that he likes are given names such as Small Saint while characters he feels
anger toward often remain unnamed (pg. 61). For example, Zits mother, father and
grandfather are never mentioned by name. Zits method of naming also reveals how he
feels about himself. I m ashamed that I look like a bag of zits tied to a broomstick (pg.
9). Therefore, his name reveals how he
Zarathustra Nietzsche Overcoming Nausea
Overcoming Nausea
Doubt is an uncomfortable condition, but certainty is a ridiculous one. Voltaire
For many Nietzsche s proclamation of God s death is liberating. No longer shall life
be dictated by groundless superstition; we are now free to judge for ourselves what
constitutes a good life. The adoption of this idea seems to allow for greater degrees of
self fulfillment. If this is the case, why is it that such a large portion of our population
still upholds religion? In book four of Thus Spoke Zarathustra Nietzsche addresses one of
the central concerns entailed by the abandonment of religion. Proceeding his discourses
on the higher man Zarathustra temporarily retreats from his guests. During this time the
magician is overcome by what ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

here, you and I. For I seek more security, that is why I came to Zarathustra. For he is
the firmest tower and will today... But you when I see the eyes you make, it almost
seems to me that you are seeking more insecurity: more thrills, more danger, more
earthquakes... you desire the most wicked, most dangerous life of which I am most
afraid: the life of wild animals, woods caves, steep mountains, and labyrinthian
gorges... even if such desire in you is real, it still seems impossible to me. For fear is
the original and basic feeling of man; from fear, everything is explicable, original sin
and original virtue. From fear my own virtue too has grown, and it is called science.
(p.414). The conscientious man has taken such issue with others out of a desire for
certainty. He hopes that Zarathustra can teach him truths that will provide secure footing
in a confusing world. However, the others have accepted a life of uncertainty and danger.
Attempting to affirm his desires the conscientious man appeals to fear which he believes
to be the most primitive feature of man. He asserts that everything even science
originates from fear. Therefore, his inclination to avoid danger is virtuous and at the very

Gulliver s Travels Essay
Gulliver s Travels: British Society and American Society
Time is a dressmaker specializing in alterations. In Jonathan Swift s fictional novel,
Gulliver s Travels, Lemuel Gulliver, is the narrator and protagonist who goes on four
adventurous voyages. He is a practical minded Englishman trained as a surgeon who
takes to the seas when his business fails. The details in his style of narration makes it
clear that he is bright or intelligent, and well educated, but his insights are naГЇve and
gullible. Throughout his journeys, Gulliver is a serious first person narrative that hardly
shows any signs of self reflection or deep emotional response. Certainly, sometimes his
obsession with the facts of navigation, becomes difficult to comprehend, as his fictional
editor, Richard Sympson, makes it clear when he explains having had to cut out nearly
half of Gulliver s repetition. In Gulliver s Travels, Swift introduces many places that

The Importance Of Social Work For Refugees And Asylum
Seekers
Social Workers have a duty, professionally and morally to support refugee children and
asylum seekers.
Social workers have a professional and moral duty to ensure that services are provided
to those who most need it. The duty that Social workers have toward Refugees and
asylum seekers, particularly children is strong but not often met. People s wellbeing is a
key ideal within social work and is strongly represented within the Care Act 2014, the
earlier Children s Act 2004 is also clear on the protection of children s rights in the
UK. In the essay there will be a discussion on how in some areas the statute is not
strong enough to allow Social Workers to work properly, but also how there needs to be
changes regarding social work focus on refugees.
Recently, United Nations Children s Fund (UNICEF) has campaigns to help reform the
UK s current law on family. The law only recognises parents or spouses and civil partners
as family. A child refugeemay have an older sibling, or more extended family such as
an uncle but they would not be allowed into the country under the Family Reunion
rules. The dangers for children trying to reach family in the UK are high and it leaves
them at risk of exploitation, 78% of adolescents face some form of exploitation whilst
travelling the Central Mediterranean route to Europe, UNICEF (2017). Social Workers
have a duty here to protest the UK s laws, and the decision of the Government not to join
the EU s relocation scheme for Refugees. They did
Dell vs Hp
1. Introduction Both Dell and HP are two strong players in PC industry which refers
to an industry where companies produces PCs (desktops and notebooks), handheld
devices (smart phones and tablets), and workstations. However, with growing global
expansion, Dell and HP s performance differs. Dell, once the world s largest PC
maker in 2001, has continually lost its market share to HP and Acer since 2007
(Guglielmo 2009). The cause is rooted in two differences of these companies: company
diversifications and core competences. Therefore, how firms can continually survive in
the PC business is more of an issue for Dell than for HP. Nevertheless, survival is not
enough. Mainly because of the fast declining average selling prices (ASP)... Show more

3. Survive the PC Business 4.4. The Battle Although both companies have diversified
into other industries, PC industry is still their most important source of revenue. For
years, these two giants are battling for lead in PC market. When measured by market
share, HP has taken place of Dell as No.1 seller in PC market since 2007 (FIGURE 1).
When measured by revenue, HP also wins over Dell for almost five years (FIGURE 2).
Also, Acer grew rapidly in market share partly because of its merger with Gateway in
2007 (Einhorn 2007), and almost matched Dell in 2009. FIGURE 1 Global PC Market

Sales (HP 2006 2010; Dell 2006 2010) 4.5. Issues PC industry is characterized by fast
declining ASP year over year. Together with the increasing component costs from 2009,
both Dell and HP are facing squeezing profit margins (HP 2010; Dell 2010). In the first
quarter of 2011, HP s gross margin for its Personal System Group (PSG) is as low as
6.4% (Epstein 2011). Similarly, Dell s gross margin of PCs is often 3 to 5% (Wang

Role Of Pharmacy In Pharmacy
Pharmacy as a profession plays a very important part in the overall wellbeing of a
patient. This is an occupation that deals with the administration and pharmacology of
medications. A pharmacist is part of the team that ensures that a patient is nursed to
full health, thereby improving the quality of life. I was twelve years old when I
decided that whatever occupation I end up doing, I will be positively impacting the
health of people. I made this decision one summer after school just let out when I got
inflicted with typhoid. I was very upset not just because of the severe pain, but also
because I couldn t go out and play since the illness didn t seem to be dissipating even
after a few days. It is common practice in Nigeria for people to self medicate with
drugs like Paracetamol and Panadol. This is because hospital bills are very expensive
and treatment doesn t begin until payment is made. Therefore, my mom administered
these painkillers to me for the first couple of days although my condition continued to
worsen. Finally, we went to the hospital where I was diagnosed with typhoid and
directed to a pharmacist. A few days after taking the medications given to me by the
pharmacist, I started feeling better. This just goes to show that a doctor s job is
incomplete without a pharmacist. There have also been other instances where I have
marveled at the wonder that is medicine. For example, when my mom got diagnosed
with type 2 diabetes and it wasn t an issue so long as she

They are found throughout the Alberta province in western Canada, but not common in the southeast. The leaves of the strawberry have three toothed leaflets and five white petals. The leaves of the wild berries are delicate as opposed to the typical leaves which are less delicate. The unripe berriesare green and coat with a slightly red color. The ripper the berries the more it adds up the red color to the berries. The ordinary strawberries, which are grown for commercial purpose are considered to be of hybrid origin between the wild berries. The smell of the berries is almost synonymous with the typical berries, but the difference lies in the size of the fruit, wild strawberries are relatively small compared to the first berries. The fruits grow wild and are found in the lowest valleys in moist soils of woods beside streams. They grow in open well drained places in the lowland of subalpine zones. Wild strawberries are perennial herbs that grow from a fibrous root. They are eaten by some birds and mammals. (Jump Start: A Northwest Renaissance Anthology 2009) The wild strawberries also known as the Alpine strawberries are very popularly used for therapeutic purposes. Traditionally all the parts of the wild berries, the leaves, fruits, roots, and the stem was used to treat various disorders. The roots of the strawberry plant were used commonly for

This is a quote from one of Trace Adkins songs called I m Trying. I love this part in the chorus because I have gone through many struggles to make me not to continue to try or make me give up; however, I have not given up, I kept on trying. For my pieces I choose three songs, that are very close to me and that have been very close to my heart, which makes these songs important to me and special to me. These three songs include Chrome, I m Trying and You re Gonna Miss This all by Trace Adkins. I choose these songs because each one of these songs has changed me or someone I know and love in a certain way, which have mostly been in a positive way. Trace Adkins has been my favorite singer since I can remember. I got to meet him in person when I had cancer and he even took me on stage with him to watch the concert, so he has always been an important artist that I like to listen to in my spare time or to cheer me up. Trace was born January 13, 1962 in Springhill, Louisiana. He was born with the name Tracy Darrell Adkins; however, he went as Trace because it is more manly than Tracy. Also, he is very tall. With a height of six feet, six inches. I remember when meeting him he had to duck his head when he walked down the hall way or he would have hit his head on the ceiling. Additionally, he has been married three times, he has divorced two of

Kinsella (1976) defined protein functionality as those physical and chemical properties which affect the behavior of proteins in food systems during processing, storage, prepration and consumption. Properties such as solubility, viscosity, water and fat binding, emulsification, foaming and gelation are of general interest (Hermansson, 1979). • 8. Charlotte Beers At Ogilvy And Mather Essay examples BACKGROUND Charlotte Beers became Ogilvy Mather s first outsider CEO after its acquisition by WPP Group Plc in 1991. According to her memo dated May 19th, Beers objective was to re invent the mega agency, whose inertia and complacency had eroded its competitiveness since the 1980s. In fact, Beer s tenure at Ogilvy constituted a re creation of the agency, redefining its aims, processes, people, and structure in reaction to the demands placed by the changing advertising industry. ANALYSIS The main issue that confronted Beers was initiating and instituting organizational change at the core level. She assumed the leadership of Ogilvy at a time when the organization was internally bleeding. Charismatic founder David Ogilvy s ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Furthermore, Ogilvy s chronic failure to institute systems for managing collaboration across regions contributed to a general lack of financial discipline, lack of focus on cost, and lack of structured decision making that had cumulative negative effects on the company. As a result, Ogilvy s competitive advantage as the most local of the internationals, the most international of the locals was undermined by competitors consistently lower costs. Compounding Ogilvy s problems was the perception that media advertising was a mere commodity, leading bargain hunting clients fled to new, lower cost boutique creative shops. Ultimately, despite its consistent 15% up market performance, and the success of the independent subsidiary Ogilvy Direct, Ogilvy lost over $100 million in advertising contracts from longtime clients including Unilever, Shell, Seagram s, Nutrasweet, Campbell, Roy Rogers and American Express. Its net income actually decreased by 2.8% in 1991. Clearly, beleaguered Ogilvy s new CEO needed to prevent further decline by instituting changes that were long overdue: 1.Redefine the corporate vision based on Brand Stewardship; 2.Modify the organizational structure to facilitate collaboration among the company s various regional and local offices and central office; and 3.Resolve the centralization vs. localization issue more definitively, in terms of authority and compensation. • 9. Modern Warfare Modern warfare ranges from small to large campaigns with military fundamentals shaping the battlefield. However, none has a more significant value as the Napoleonic eras. Although France is no longer a dominant power, its military fundamentals influence the United States (U.S.) military. The U.S. military employs three Napoleonic era fundamentals of Command and Control (C2), professional military, and nationalism. These fundamentals shape the U.S. military during peace and war. Maintaining peace and winning wars are important. To do that, large capable militaries are required with C2 and Napoleon recognized this. CMTCs provided the foundation for CAM units deploying to a Full Spectrum of Operations battlefield. Although conflicts tailor training, training is the number one reason the U.S. Army is successful. Training is not something we do. It is what we do! A professional military is not successful as a nation of support. France experienced a revolution, one that brought change from mass politics to mass warfare to Europe. Napoleon recognized this and benefited from the transition from dynastic to national warfare. The French revolution had realized the idea for the citizen Soldier, committed to the cause of the people, for which he fought. Napoleon exploited nationalism on his own troops, rallying them to success. National success depends on every citizen. As the French Army mobilized, its citizens did, too. Young men will go to battle; married men will forge arms and transport supplies; women will make tents, uniforms, and serve in hospitals; children will pick rags; old men will have themselves carried to public squares to inspire the courage of the warriors, and to preach hatred of kings and the unity of the Republic. Nationalism brought change to the world, as monarchies were overthrown and people governments formed. Although the U.S. formed prior to the French Revolution, its Nationalism has been prevalent for over 200 years. National support defines U.S. military success, as it did for Napoleon. When conflicts are imminent, the U.S. military mobilizes

  • 11. History Of The Delian League In my perspective, the Delian League was both successful and unsuccessful, but were by and large more successful than not. The Delian League was mutual alliance and protection against the Persians after the first Persian War, mainly to make the Persians pay for the invasion and to free the Greeks that were under Persian rule (Gill, 2016, 2). All members of the League contributed both silver and ships to the war efforts, but it was Athens that dominated (Brand, n.d., pp. 28). With Athens leading with a strong naval military, the Delian League pushed back the Persian s second invasion of Greece and were able to liberate Thrace and the Aegean of Persian strongholds (Gill, 2016, 11). Although the Delian League was successful in holding off the Persian invasions, Athens had taken advantage of their naval military might. To this extent, the formation of the Delian League was unsuccessful. The members of the Delian League grew tired of Athens abusive power, which eventually led to the Peloponnesian Warled by Sparta against Athens. The eventual result of the war devastated and humbled Athens (Brand, n.d., pp. 28). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 29. My Philosophy Of Education And Education My Philosophy of Education When trying coming up with a personal philosophy of education, I had to ask myself what the purpose of education is. To me, the purpose of education is to teach students knowledge that is needed to make it through school and to succeed in the world after graduation. Anyone can go into teaching, but not every teacher can teach. Teachers go above and beyond to introduce methods, philosophies, and strategies to help their students learn, as well as, retain the information. The type of method that I plan to use in the classroom would be the inquiry based method. The reason I chose this type of method is because it is hands on, and I myself learn this way. On the first day of class, I will do a survey with the students to find out what types of learners they are. All students learn differently. For example: VAK learning styles, which are Visual, Auditory, and Kinesthetic. In order for me to have a mental note of how the students learn, I will seat them in groups based on which type of learner they are. This way I can make sure I apply different learning techniques in my teaching. When doing group work, I will mix the groups up with the different learners, so that they can be introduced to the other ways of learning as well. I believe in the Progressivism Philosophy, which considers that the views of nature are ever changing. This type of philosophy helps the children to develop problem solving abilities. When the students come across a challenge, they

Alexie brilliantly invites readers into the mind of a cynical fifteen year old who calls himself Zits. Zits uses humor, violence, and shock value to cope with how he has been treated by his absent father and the foster system. Zits uses his vocabulary as a defense mechanism which reveals how comfortable he feels in various situations. The following paragraphs analyze how Zits speech patterns provide insight to how he feels about certain characters and situations. Zits uses a distinctive naming system when he is unaware of a character s real name. Zits method of naming characters reveals how comfortable he is talking about them. He bases most of his names on appearance. For instance, Zits sees a young Indian boy while he is in the body of Gus and he observes that the Indian can t be more than five years old and he holds a bow (pg. 59). Zits then refers to this character as Bow Boy for the remainder of the book (pg. 59). Zits uses this method for naming almost every character he meets. Characters that he likes are given names such as Small Saint while characters he feels anger toward often remain unnamed (pg. 61). For example, Zits mother, father and grandfather are never mentioned by name. Zits method of naming also reveals how he feels about himself. I m ashamed that I look like a bag of zits tied to a broomstick (pg. 9). Therefore, his name reveals how he
  • 32. Zarathustra Nietzsche Overcoming Nausea Overcoming Nausea Doubt is an uncomfortable condition, but certainty is a ridiculous one. Voltaire For many Nietzsche s proclamation of God s death is liberating. No longer shall life be dictated by groundless superstition; we are now free to judge for ourselves what constitutes a good life. The adoption of this idea seems to allow for greater degrees of self fulfillment. If this is the case, why is it that such a large portion of our population still upholds religion? In book four of Thus Spoke Zarathustra Nietzsche addresses one of the central concerns entailed by the abandonment of religion. Proceeding his discourses on the higher man Zarathustra temporarily retreats from his guests. During this time the magician is overcome by what ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The conscientious man then scolds his beguiled peers We seek different things up here, you and I. For I seek more security, that is why I came to Zarathustra. For he is the firmest tower and will today... But you when I see the eyes you make, it almost seems to me that you are seeking more insecurity: more thrills, more danger, more earthquakes... you desire the most wicked, most dangerous life of which I am most afraid: the life of wild animals, woods caves, steep mountains, and labyrinthian gorges... even if such desire in you is real, it still seems impossible to me. For fear is the original and basic feeling of man; from fear, everything is explicable, original sin and original virtue. From fear my own virtue too has grown, and it is called science. (p.414). The conscientious man has taken such issue with others out of a desire for certainty. He hopes that Zarathustra can teach him truths that will provide secure footing in a confusing world. However, the others have accepted a life of uncertainty and danger. Attempting to affirm his desires the conscientious man appeals to fear which he believes to be the most primitive feature of man. He asserts that everything even science originates from fear. Therefore, his inclination to avoid danger is virtuous and at the very least
  • 33. Gulliver s Travels Essay Gulliver s Travels: British Society and American Society Time is a dressmaker specializing in alterations. In Jonathan Swift s fictional novel, Gulliver s Travels, Lemuel Gulliver, is the narrator and protagonist who goes on four adventurous voyages. He is a practical minded Englishman trained as a surgeon who takes to the seas when his business fails. The details in his style of narration makes it clear that he is bright or intelligent, and well educated, but his insights are naГЇve and gullible. Throughout his journeys, Gulliver is a serious first person narrative that hardly shows any signs of self reflection or deep emotional response. Certainly, sometimes his obsession with the facts of navigation, becomes difficult to comprehend, as his fictional editor, Richard Sympson, makes it clear when he explains having had to cut out nearly half of Gulliver s repetition. In Gulliver s Travels, Swift introduces many places that serve as a looking glass ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... At first, he justifies the way English society and the way England is
  • 34. The Importance Of Social Work For Refugees And Asylum Seekers Social Workers have a duty, professionally and morally to support refugee children and asylum seekers. Social workers have a professional and moral duty to ensure that services are provided to those who most need it. The duty that Social workers have toward Refugees and asylum seekers, particularly children is strong but not often met. People s wellbeing is a key ideal within social work and is strongly represented within the Care Act 2014, the earlier Children s Act 2004 is also clear on the protection of children s rights in the UK. In the essay there will be a discussion on how in some areas the statute is not strong enough to allow Social Workers to work properly, but also how there needs to be changes regarding social work focus on refugees. Recently, United Nations Children s Fund (UNICEF) has campaigns to help reform the UK s current law on family. The law only recognises parents or spouses and civil partners as family. A child refugeemay have an older sibling, or more extended family such as an uncle but they would not be allowed into the country under the Family Reunion rules. The dangers for children trying to reach family in the UK are high and it leaves them at risk of exploitation, 78% of adolescents face some form of exploitation whilst travelling the Central Mediterranean route to Europe, UNICEF (2017). Social Workers have a duty here to protest the UK s laws, and the decision of the Government not to join the EU s relocation scheme for Refugees. They did
  • 35. Dell vs Hp 1. Introduction Both Dell and HP are two strong players in PC industry which refers to an industry where companies produces PCs (desktops and notebooks), handheld devices (smart phones and tablets), and workstations. However, with growing global expansion, Dell and HP s performance differs. Dell, once the world s largest PC maker in 2001, has continually lost its market share to HP and Acer since 2007 (Guglielmo 2009). The cause is rooted in two differences of these companies: company diversifications and core competences. Therefore, how firms can continually survive in the PC business is more of an issue for Dell than for HP. Nevertheless, survival is not enough. Mainly because of the fast declining average selling prices (ASP)... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... 3. Survive the PC Business 4.4. The Battle Although both companies have diversified into other industries, PC industry is still their most important source of revenue. For years, these two giants are battling for lead in PC market. When measured by market share, HP has taken place of Dell as No.1 seller in PC market since 2007 (FIGURE 1). When measured by revenue, HP also wins over Dell for almost five years (FIGURE 2). Also, Acer grew rapidly in market share partly because of its merger with Gateway in 2007 (Einhorn 2007), and almost matched Dell in 2009. Issues PC industry is characterized by fast declining ASP year over year. Together with the increasing component costs from 2009, both Dell and HP are facing squeezing profit margins (HP 2010; Dell 2010). In the first quarter of 2011, HP s gross margin for its Personal System Group (PSG) is as low as 6.4% (Epstein 2011). Similarly, Dell s gross margin of PCs is often 3 to 5% (Wang 2010). This indicates that if both
  • 36. Role Of Pharmacy In Pharmacy Pharmacy as a profession plays a very important part in the overall wellbeing of a patient. This is an occupation that deals with the administration and pharmacology of medications. A pharmacist is part of the team that ensures that a patient is nursed to full health, thereby improving the quality of life. I was twelve years old when I decided that whatever occupation I end up doing, I will be positively impacting the health of people. I made this decision one summer after school just let out when I got inflicted with typhoid. I was very upset not just because of the severe pain, but also because I couldn t go out and play since the illness didn t seem to be dissipating even after a few days. It is common practice in Nigeria for people to self medicate with drugs like Paracetamol and Panadol. This is because hospital bills are very expensive and treatment doesn t begin until payment is made. Therefore, my mom administered these painkillers to me for the first couple of days although my condition continued to worsen. Finally, we went to the hospital where I was diagnosed with typhoid and directed to a pharmacist. A few days after taking the medications given to me by the pharmacist, I started feeling better. This just goes to show that a doctor s job is incomplete without a pharmacist. There have also been other instances where I have marveled at the wonder that is medicine. For example, when my mom got diagnosed with type 2 diabetes and it wasn t an issue so long as she
