In this presentation, Ankit introduces SMAC and associated trends. Ankit's interest area lies in Big Data Analysis which he wants to in interesting applications in the healthcare space, one of the interesting examples he suggests is to find the correlation between treatment and cure.

2. Introduction
O Social, Mobility, Analytics and Cloud (SMAC) are individual technologies
and platforms which have risen during the past few years and have
shown immense growth
O SMAC based solutions, when offered and deployed as a SaaS based
model, give businesses a real opportunity to develop innovative solutions
that ultimately lead to leveraging public IT infrastructure, lowering cost of
ownership and deployment of innovative applications that not only
improve enterprise decision making capabilities but also allows them to
roll out new unprecedented business models and increase their reach to
customers
O Social links people to their friends, work and each other in new and
unexpected ways
O Mobile devices are a platform for effective social networking and new
ways to work
O Analytics (Big Data) helps gain meaningful insights from the information,
facilitating informed decision making
O Cloud enables delivery of information and functionality to users and
systems
3. Trends
O Today, leading companies are capitalizing on digital ecosystems that are
exploding due to confluence of social networks, mobile computing , analytics
and cloud computing
O SMAC challenges enterprises to take advantage of the positive disruptions it
portents, while they operate at the rapid pace of innovation and changes in
demand
O These technologies are quickly changing the way companies relate to their
customers, interact with employees, and bring products and services to
market
O Indian IT companies can play a huge role in helping organizations around the
world adopt these technologies and help them transform their business
models
O As highlighted by NASSCOM, IDC estimates that Indian IT vendors could
generate $225 billion in SMAC related revenue by 2020
O On 8th May 2013, WIPRO purchased a minority stake in Opera Solutions, a
US-based Big Data company for $30 million, which would help Wipro expand
in the Big Data analytics space. Tech-Mahindra’s acquisition of 51% stake in
Gurgaon based mobile applications firm Comviva for ~$55 million in
September 2013 are further testaments of Indian IT companies recognizing
the importance of these technologies and paving the way of large deal flow in
the sector
4. Interest Areas
O My interests lie in Big Data Analytics and Cloud Computing
O Big Data analytics is the process of applying advanced analytics and
visualization techniques to large datasets to uncover hidden patterns and
unknown correlations for effective decision making
O Cloud computing is the delivery of computing services over the internet which
allows individuals & businesses to use software & hardware that are managed
by third parties at a remote location. It provides a shared pool of resources
including data storage space, networks, computer processing power &
specialized corporate/user applications
O If given an Internship, I would use Big Data Analytics and Cloud Computing to
innovate methods to improve Healthcare services as:
O Big Data Analytics will help in the analysis of correlation between
treatments and outcomes. Also, real time data can be used from medical
devices for better patient care
O A Cloud Computing model can be built which will connect various
Healthcare units (e.g. hospitals, blood banks), and all the medical
information can be updated upon it, which can be utilized by other units
for the better treatment of their patients
