In the trading environment, it is essential to control and organize the flow of materials and services from vendors to customers. The principle of the business is to match demand from the customer with supply from the vendor. This type of business is known as triangular business, principal business, or back-to-back business. The industry defines this type of business as business where purchasing and sales are carried out in parallel, in the same trading department. For example, you get a sales order from a customer, search for the best vendor to fulfil the customer’s requirements, and issue a purchase order, all in one transaction. You can manage shipping, transportation, and customs clearance for the goods. The vendor then delivers the goods directly to the customer. The trading company gets an invoice from the vendor, and bills the customer. Finally, you receive payment from the customer and make a payment to the vendor.

Search and Society: Reimagining Information Access for Radical FuturesBhaskar Mitra
The field of Information retrieval (IR) is currently undergoing a transformative shift, at least partly due to the emerging applications of generative AI to information access. In this talk, we will deliberate on the sociotechnical implications of generative AI for information access. We will argue that there is both a critical necessity and an exciting opportunity for the IR community to re-center our research agendas on societal needs while dismantling the artificial separation between the work on fairness, accountability, transparency, and ethics in IR and the rest of IR research. Instead of adopting a reactionary strategy of trying to mitigate potential social harms from emerging technologies, the community should aim to proactively set the research agenda for the kinds of systems we should build inspired by diverse explicitly stated sociotechnical imaginaries. The sociotechnical imaginaries that underpin the design and development of information access technologies needs to be explicitly articulated, and we need to develop theories of change in context of these diverse perspectives. Our guiding future imaginaries must be informed by other academic fields, such as democratic theory and critical theory, and should be co-developed with social science scholars, legal scholars, civil rights and social justice activists, and artists, among others.

Epistemic Interaction - tuning interfaces to provide information for AI supportAlan Dix
Paper presented at SYNERGY workshop at AVI 2024, Genoa, Italy. 3rd June 2024
https://alandix.com/academic/papers/synergy2024-epistemic/
As machine learning integrates deeper into human-computer interactions, the concept of epistemic interaction emerges, aiming to refine these interactions to enhance system adaptability. This approach encourages minor, intentional adjustments in user behaviour to enrich the data available for system learning. This paper introduces epistemic interaction within the context of human-system communication, illustrating how deliberate interaction design can improve system understanding and adaptation. Through concrete examples, we demonstrate the potential of epistemic interaction to significantly advance human-computer interaction by leveraging intuitive human communication strategies to inform system design and functionality, offering a novel pathway for enriching user-system engagements.

2. Introduction
SMAC - Social, Mobile, Analytics and Cloud is one integrated stack,
where each function enables another to maximize their effect.
Social: The social is allowing consumers and brands to influence one
another more than ever and social media enables the individuals to
connect with the world. Marketing and selling a product has been
changed entirely by this new strategy.
Through social media an enterprise can maximize its profits with
minimum efforts by increasing the popularity of its product through
social media.
Mobile: Mobile is where the world is going. Statistics show that the
industries as well as the individuals are shifting from PCs and laptops to
mobile devices. The reason behind this is that these smartphones and
tablets have brought rich, digital content to the fingertips of the users.
The mobile applications reduces the human effort in all kinds and
hence the demand for the smart phones have increased drastically.
3. Analytics: The data is being generated tremendously
every year by the individuals as well as enterprises. The
data analytics means analyzing the data and obtaining
the desired output. For example, by applying data
analytics a retailers can predict the buying decisions of
shoppers.
Predictive analytics is widely being adopted by various
industries.
Cloud: The Cloud is the glue which binds all the three,
social, mobile and analytics.
With Cloud applications, in growth of the “as-a-Service”
movement (PaaS, SaaS, IaaS) and game changing factors
like easy to use cloud storage, secure cloud data
replication, the Cloud is bringing all the elements – Social,
Mobile, Analytics – together in a fashion which was first
promised by the Internet.
4. Trends
Social: Earlier this year , the social media giants both
Facebook and Twitter began beta-testing “buy”
buttons, which appear alongside certain posts and
tweets and allows users to make purchases with just a
click or two.
Mobile Payments: After its launch, the “Apple Pay”
supports cards that represent 90 % of the credit card
purchase volume in the U.S.
5. Cloud: The latest cloud-based graphics technologies allow end
users to run high-end graphic design applications with a simple
HTML5 web browser.
Big Data Analytics: The latest tools for data analytics like Hadoop,
Google’s BigQuery data analytics service, are a framework for
processing very large data sets.
Trends which I expect to make big impact in the next five years :
I expect, the cloud platform based mobile application
development like IBM’s Bluemix cloud platform etc will impact
the coming years since it helps developers rapidly build, manage
and run web and mobile applications on cloud.
The developer just need to use a combination of the most
prominent open-source compute technologies to power the
apps. More the developer is comfortable in developing
products,.
6. Interest Areas
My interest areas are data analytics, cloud computing
and mobility.
The predictive analysis feature of data analytics seems
more interesting to me.
I would like to work on these interest areas. I have also
developed few mobile applications and also cloud
platform based mobile application under IBM’s
BlueMix. So, I would like use my prior knowledge in my
internship for the development of my skills as well as for
the benefit of the organization.
