SMAC is upsetting the domain. No CIO dialogue is accomplished devoid of considering influence
of SMAC on industry and business. Rapid developments in this technology pile are accumulating
value to complete breadth of businesses and industries. Rewards are several and appear very
captivating, with assurances being made as big as - forecasting future (Analytics), accessible
everywhere (Mobile), everything is so easy and networked (Social), and at a very low cost (Cloud).
This fresh technology pile has begun changing tomorrow's organization and has influence on every
part of a business, therefore consequently on the every software applications being utilize inside
the company and by the company.

Securing your Kubernetes cluster_ a step-by-step guide to success !KatiaHIMEUR1
Today, after several years of existence, an extremely active community and an ultra-dynamic ecosystem, Kubernetes has established itself as the de facto standard in container orchestration. Thanks to a wide range of managed services, it has never been so easy to set up a ready-to-use Kubernetes cluster.
However, this ease of use means that the subject of security in Kubernetes is often left for later, or even neglected. This exposes companies to significant risks.
In this talk, I'll show you step-by-step how to secure your Kubernetes cluster for greater peace of mind and reliability.

Neuro-symbolic is not enough, we need neuro-*semantic*Frank van Harmelen
Neuro-symbolic (NeSy) AI is on the rise. However, simply machine learning on just any symbolic structure is not sufficient to really harvest the gains of NeSy. These will only be gained when the symbolic structures have an actual semantics. I give an operational definition of semantics as “predictable inference”.
All of this illustrated with link prediction over knowledge graphs, but the argument is general.

SMAC
1. Social, Mobile, Analytics
and Cloud (SMAC)

Twitter id: @hemantrkarora
University: BITS Pilani Hyderabad Campus
Year/Semester: 4th year/8th sem
Branch: Computer Science and Math

2. CLOUD
contains information
and applications that
people use.
What is SMAC?
SMAC is a new business
model, the convergence of
4 emerging trends - social
media, mobility, analytics &
cloud computing.
MOBILE
devices give people
access to the cloud,
other data sources &
each other.
ANALYTICS
help them make
actionable sense
of all the data.
SOCIAL
media helps people
find colleagues with
whom to collaborate
2
3. What is SMAC?
❖ BIG DATA ANALYTICS
Make better decisions by analyzing large volumes of
structured and unstructured data
❖ CLOUD COMPUTING
Provides a shared pool of resources (storage space,
processing power, etc) over the internet and is scalable.
❖ SOCIAL MEDIA
Sites like Facebook, Twitter, etc can be used for customer
engagement and brand building.
❖ MOBILE
Providing access to data remotely. Services and
sales on the go. Eg.mobile banking, ticketing apps
3
4. Trends
❖ Snapchat is driving the disappearing
social media trend.
❖ Big data analytics is being done in
the cloud, few instances -
Amazon’s Redshift hosted BI data
warehouse, Google’s BigQuery data
analytics service, IBM’s Bluemix
cloud platform and Amazon’s
Kinesis data processing service.
4
5. Trends - in next 5 years
❖ IT service segments like Consulting and System Integration are the key
growing segments and will have the largest market share.Segments
like Information system and testing will need modifications
❖ NASSCOM estimates that an additional 10% IT spend will be incurred by
enterprises to deploy mobility solutions by 2020, the mobility market
opportunity is estimated to be worth about USD 140-150 billion
globally
❖ The use of in-memory databases to speed up analytic processing will be
highly beneficial. Hybrid transaction/analytical processing (HTAP) allows
transactions and analytic processing to reside in the same in-memory
database.
❖ Improvements in analytics tools across Voice over Internet Protocol
(VoIP),
CRM, and other backend platforms will give companies actionable
insights into the content their mobile workforce is accessing. 5
6. Interest Areas
❖ My interest in this field lies in the big data analytics and cloud
computing services. Doing big data analytics in the cloud over the content
accessed by the mobile workforce is an interesting idea to experiment
with.Alternatively, automating the whole process, including the analytics
phase will be a good challenge in my opinion.
❖ If given an internship opportunity, I would like to work on services where
volunteers can allow their computing devices to be used for computation
over the internet when their devices are idle or not in use. One live
example is ‘Seattle on Android’ mobile app.
