2. Introduction
While social, mobile, analytics and cloud technologies add a new
dimension to your business model, to fully maximize their value
consider the sum is greater than its parts.
The formula for the Future of Work is called SMAC - social, mobile,
analytics and cloud on one integrated stack, where each function
enables another to maximize their effect.
This is the new enterprise IT model delivering an organization that
is more connective, collaborative, real-time and productive.
3. Introduction(cont)
Every fifteen years or so, the IT industry has witnessed new
innovations in computing which have changed the way IT
services are delivered to the business and end users.
After the many era we’re now in what many call the fifth
wave of corporate IT. This fifth wave is characterized by a
new master IT architecture comprised of social, mobile,
analytics and cloud technologies collectively known as
SMAC.
5. Social Technologies
Social technologies powering mediums such as Facebook,
You Tube, Twitter, Four sqaure and many more have made
geographic boundaries meaningless and enabled the
implementation of virtual platforms to connect, discuss and
exchange views; generate, rank, rate and curate content, and
collaborate with each other. These make it easy for users to reach
out to a large number of industry participants in upstream,
downstream and horizontal markets as well as diverse consumer
segments.
6. Mobile Technologies
Mobile technologies have enabled people to engage, view
and act on any information (if they choose to do so) at their
convenience. They enable hands-on entrepreneurs to obtain a
clear view of their business operations and take decisions in
areas ranging from financials to inventory management, even
while they are on the move. Today, financial institutions are
leveraging mobile technologies that support them in their
financial agendas, and multiple modes of payments and
remittance solutions are empowering owners and employees of
SME industries.
7. Analytics
Analytics refers to the utilization of raw data, inference rules,
and analysis models to provide decision makers to perform
necessary steps to improve their day to-day or milestone
activities. Volume, Variety and Velocity are the three main
characteristics of Analytics. Volume refers to quantity of data,
Variety refers to divergent of data and Velocity refers to speed of
data.
8. Analytics(cont.)
Analytics can change the human interests depending
upon his activities when his or her shopping on online
or switching from one bank to other bank.
Internet of Things(IoT), can also play analytics role in
future for an analyzing Humans, Automobiles,Plants,
Animals etc.,.
• After 2015, Bank operations can be done on social
websites like facebook,Twitter etc.,.
• Huge requirements for job inAnalysts and Data
miners
9. Cloud Technologies
Cloud is a general model for enabling on demand network and a
convenient way to access a pool of computing resources which
includes servers, networks, applications and services. The main
features of cloud includes Data Storage, data back up, data
Accessibility, Collaboration and Resources and Time Conscious.
In general, it is a term covering the delivery of hosted services
such as IaaS, PaaS and SaaS over the Internet.
10. Cloud Technologies(contd.)
Cloud Technologies is going to abolish all the
technologies,pc’s,storage devices,physical devices etc.,.
The Organisations all over the world are going to
changed their physical Devices to cloud technologies.
Cloud can public, private ,hybrid or shared, community
by this different cloud the safety, reliability, trusted
services can be given by service vendors.
• Companies like Microsoft, AWS, Salesforce,etc.,. are
providing huge jobs for cloud services as
saas,iaas,paas.
13. How Technologies within SMAC
work together?
In today's digitally connected world, no product or offering is
complete without having a touch of at-least one technology from
SMAC stack. For e.g. Traditional ERP systems are offering look
and feel of their front-end applications like that of social media.
Almost every company needs applications available on mobile
devices. New application purchases are being evaluated to be
cloud deployable. Big data and advanced analytics are buzz
words today in enterprises.
14. Impact on Enterprise Applications:
Organizations, in order to effectively run their businesses,
traditionally have been using many enterprise applications like
Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP), Project Management,
Business Intelligence (BI Tools), Customer Relationship
Management (CRM), Business Process Management (BPM),
Enterprise application integration (EAI), Document
Management, Content Management, directory services (LDAP)
and more. These applications are in use for many years and serve
as backbone of the organizations. In recent past, this application
portfolio is being augmented by some technologies from SMAC
stack.
16. SMAC E-Governance
The term E-Governance is self explanatory indicating that it is
technology driven governance. It is the application of
Information, Communication, Technology and Networking for
services based on government policies to provide facilities. It
includes information transactions and services between
Government to Consumer (G2C), Government
to Business (G2B), Government to Government (G2G) and other
interactions of entire government framework. There
are many state governments of India who have started moving e-
governance in SMAC way. The new generation of
e-governance will be known as EGP (E-Governance) 2.0 or e-
kranti.
17. SMAC E-Governance(contd.)
Governments are following and using SMAC process for raising
their ideas,schemes to public.
Examples for SMAC E-governance State Governments of India
has implemented.
Example 1:- SMAC by Government of Andhra Pradesh, India There is one
project by Andhra Pradesh government of India in Hyderabad who have
implemented SMAC technologies to provide better e-governance. The project
carried out by government of Andhra Pradesh uses collected data of global
positioning systems (GPS) integral in the city buses for public/ social transport
improvement.
Example 2:-SMAC by Government of Maharastra is moving to SMAC and cloud
Technologies for reducing costs of Pc’s and stroage devices.
18. SMAC Effect
In all Industries across the business landscape, the SMAC
Stack™ is eroding the century-old blueprint of value chains
and spawning new, highly distributed, virtualized business
models. The power of this technology platform is in
treating it as a stack, for its components have a multiplying
effect when they work in combination.
20. Applications:
Mobile Banking,
E-governance,
Market Intelligence,
Business Productivity,
Online marketing,
Social Media,
E-store etc…
21. Advantages:
It allows to grow business partnership of with other business
sector.
SMAC e-governance allows to engage citizens on a more personal
level and get insight into their likes, dislikes, physical
whereabouts and habits thus enabling egovernance to deliver
more targeted messages and provide individual support for
enhancing citizens loyalty
22. Drawbacks:
There are some risk factors in gathering big data while applying
SMAC
If data is more secure then there would be restrictions of rights
on use of data
It would be challenging to protect database also
There are some other concerns, which can be misused, in
applying result of analysis.
23. Conclusion:
Every application and every human being is, or will be touched
by, at-least one technology of SMAC stack. Business leaders need
to be cautious of advancement in this stack and should not miss
the bandwagon, as this technology stack in coming years will
transform the way they run their businesses. So, this stack has
high potential to disrupt their IT landscape. They should
carefully evaluate and analyze the impact from each of these
technologies on their software applications and adopt
accordingly. However, there is no immediate adoption need to
act in haste, but a careful impact analysis is required. Especially
for enterprise applications, the impact of this entire stack is not
high - only Cloud and Analytics will have some impact.
