EXAMINATION OF THE SHOULDER (FRONT, BACK, SIDE)
Expose the whole upper limb & neck
1.LOOK
- Skin Changes (Color, Scar, Sinus)
- Attitude of limb
- Swelling
- Muscles Wasting
- Deformity
- Congenital Abnormalities
2. FEEL
- Confirm the above findings
- Ask for & feel
- Temperature
- Tenderness
- Muscles
- Swellings
- Sensations & Power
3.MOVE – Range of Movements (FLX,EXT,ABD,ADD,IR,ER)
- Active movements
- Passive movements
4.MEASUREMENT
5.SPECIAL TESTS:
- Neer impingement test (Rotator cuff – Supraspinatus)
- Jobe`s empty can test (Rotator cuff – Supraspinatus)
- Lift off test (Rotator cuff – Subscapularis)
- Test for infraspinatus – push out
- Yergason test (Rotator cuff – Biceps)
- Test for teres minor
- Apprehension test (For Dislocation) supine position:
. Perform the Drop Arm Test to assess supraspinatus (and rotator cuff) injuries or tendon tears
 Abduct the patient’s arms passively to 90 by holding their wrists
 Release the patient’s wrists and instruct the patient to slowly lower the arms to the sides
 The test is positive if the patient is unable to return his arms to the sides in a smooth and
controlled fashion and his arms drop to the sides
