Leslie Sponsel s Approach to Investigation of the Amazon...
Leslie Sponsel takes a remarkably sensible approach to certain academic controversies over
anthropological investigation of the Amazon Basin. To some degree, Sponsel s article demands to be
understood in a larger context within the overall ecosystem of academic anthropology, so to speak. As
indicated in the title of her article, Sponsel approaches the subject with a special focus on adaptation,
which necessarily implies changing conditions. As she notes in her introductory remarks:
For convenience the review is organized around the following domains: ecosystem, cultural system,
change, and research trends and needs. An ecosystem is composed of abiotic and biotic components
which interact through the flow of energy, matter, and information, and all of this varies in space and
time. (67)
It is here that a reader in 2012 gets a glimpse of the much larger context. At the time of Sponsel s
writing in 1986, an ecological approach that included the flow of Β¦information which varies in space
and time appears remarkable prescient, considering that in the three decades that have passed since the
article s original publication, Sponsel s own culture has undergone a complete technological
revolution in flow of Β¦information : the Internet, the cellular telephone, the personal computer were all
in their infancy. This may seem like a minor point, but it indicates the fundamental validity of Sponsel
s approach: the contentious battles over theory between anthropologists like

Why You Should Buy An Apple Macintosh Computer Essay
Do you own a computer? What kind of computer is it? Is it a Microsoft PC, running Windows Vista?
Or is it an Apple Macintosh running Mac OS X? Using a PC can be such a hassle. Macintosh
computers are so much better and easier to use than a PC. Macs also are better for the planet, have a
longer lifespan, have more reliable hardware, are less likely to crash or get viruses, have better
security features, it s very easy to transfer all your files from a PC to a Mac, and a Mac can be a PC if
you really wanted it too. But I will explain that last one later. First, I will tell you about how the build
of the Macintosh computer is a big reason of the rapid growth of Macs. In 2007, 2008, and 2009,
Apple s Macbook, Macbook Pro, and I Mac (their ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A recent study by the magazine PC Advisor, stated that a Mac owner who uses no security software at
all runs less risk of getting spyware or a virus than a person who owns a PC and obsessively protects
it. In the year 2008 there were 114,000 known viruses for PC s. But there has never been a virus that
could harm a Mac. Apple does admit they have come across some security flaws, but within a day of
the flaws discovery Apple creates a security update, and every single Mac user gets a notification from
Apple saying that there is a flaw and an update available that can correct it. And personally, I think
one of the reasons Mac is so successful is because of their hardware. For example, lets pretend I
bought a new PC. Dell made the monitor and tower. Mircosoft made the hardware and operating
system. Intel made the processor. Nvidia made the graphics drive. And the consumer is the one putting
everything together. The average desktop PC takes 2.5 hours to put together, and you re the one who
has to do it! If you do one thing wrong you could cut your computer s life in half. The worst part is,
the more pieces and components that are in the computer, there are more places that something could
go wrong. When you buy a desktop Mac,

Perpetual Peace Theory Essay
Kant, Liberal Legacies, and Foreign Affairs (1983) essay by M.Doyle, the main modern liberal
thinker. on democratic peace theory, bring back to life Kant s Perpetual peace (1795) theory by
analysing the lack of wars btween liberal democratic states.
Nowadays, the democratic peace theory is one of the most accepted theses among the international
relations community. It is considered as one of the most stable and unbreakable Β« law Β» of the field.
This theory explain that democracies do not fight each other, not because the people living in it are
intrinsically pacific, but because between democracies war is the last resort since it has become such
an irrational way to deal with issues.
In his essay, Doyle is trying to analyse this pacific situation by explaining the correlation between the

negative and positive freedoms, and the guarantee of democratic participation concept.
Negative freedoms are the freedoms which are protecting the citizens from arbitrary authority freedom
of conscience, free press and speech, equality under the law, and the right to hold and exchange
fearlessly property. Those rights are essential because they avoid the anarchical Β« state of nature Β» and
enable citizens to live in an organized society where their rights are protected.

Philonous And Hylas Play Summary
The dialogue begins with Philonous and Hylas, the protagonists, running into each other. Philonous is
surprised to see Hylas awake so early, but Hylas seems mad. Hylas explains that he has been
contemplating over crazy beliefs that some philosophers have; those who believe nothing at all, and
those who believe everything. Hylas is scared that the philosophers will put thoughts in people s
heads, eventually turning them against their own religion and beliefs. Philonous agrees with Hylas and
explains how doesn t follow what he learned in school, rather he embraces common sense opinions.
Hylas is relieved to find out Philonous doesn t believe in these insane thoughts (mind independent
reality) that some of their friends do. Philonous explains that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Philonous now begins to explain how materialism can lead to skepticism. Philonous must now explain
that there is no reason to believe in mind independent reality. Philonous introduces the argument from
pleasure and pain as well as the argument of perceptual relativity. First, he makes Hylas admit that we
can only sense sensible things, and that sensible things are nothing but groups of sensible qualities.
Hylas hesitates, but Philonous reassures him. Philonous gives a cherry as an example; a small, red,
sweet cluster, which in actuality could be something other than this. Philonous now introduces the
idea of pain and pleasure. Philonous explains that pain is mind dependant, meaning that pain cannot
exist if nobody is feeling it. The same goes with pleasure. Philonous then explains that this does not
only apply to pain and pleasure, but to any sensible quality. First, Philonous tries to relate heat with
pain. He says that inanimate objects cannot feel pain or pleasure; Matter is inanimate; Matter cannot
feel pain nor pleasure; heat is a form of pain; therefore matter is incapable of feeling heat; This means
heat is mind

Feminist Concept Of Feminism
We are nearly 20 years into the 21st century, and generally speaking there has been progress and
obstacles in the pursuit of women rights. An issue that I would like to expand on that is within the
parameters of women s rights is reproductive rights and justice. Reproductive rights as a goal is
universal, but it is also complex. This complexity stems from the fact that not every oppression is the
same, and what one person could consider a benefit, others could find fault in it. I believe that the
grundnorm that forms the basis of reproductive rights is bodily integrity, and when we think of bodily
integrity we should think through a transnational feminist lens. From this concept of transnational
feminism, it is important to note that feminism should be plural because a transnational approach
points to the multiplicity of the world s feminisms and to the increasing tendency of national
feminisms to politicize women s issues beyond the borders of the nation state (Gupta 24). A
transnational feminisms approach allows for us, the reader, to yes acknowledge that there are
commonalities, but to create a coalition we must also acknowledge the differences and build from
there. Our lives are structured around so many systems that are in effect that we do not acknowledge.
An unsupported claim I am going to say is that a lot of people do not realize the effects of
globalization because we, as people, are individualistic. The fact that we as people are individualistic
is relevant to bodily integrity because we do the things we do for ourselves. Whatever we do to our
bodies is our choice, or we like to believe that we should have the right to make that choice. This
matter of choice is something that constantly is brought up when reproductive rights are discussed.
Space, solidarity between the sexes, the social and material conditions of a given situation, the effects
of class and race divisions, biological contingency, and individual control and collective responsibility
are intersecting axis that make up why it is difficult to essentially please everyone in the fight for
reproductive rights. Some reproductive issues that I would like to examine are sex selective abortion,
access to birth control, and forced

My Most Important Day Essay
Honestly if I were to think of my most important day, not even one would come to mind, because
when your put on the spot to think of one it s hard. Although, there is one day that out of all is clear as
daylight in my head, down to every second. I think this is due to the day being different than all the
other days. In my life, I experienced something I thought I never would. My most important day of my
life is when I finally met my older cousin Akash, while we were on our vacation on the cruise.
I always knew my cousin Akash, but we had never truly spoke nor bonded. He d always do his own
thing, and I guess you could say I looked up to him due to the type of person he was. I d really only
see him at family parties due to us not being first cousins, but suddenly he stopped coming to them. It
didn t matter if it was a family get together, birthday, Christmas, or anything else, he would never
show up. This made it impossible for me to ever see him. However, then I found out that he d be
coming with us on the cruise. To be honest, at first I didn t care much because I thought he wouldn t
associate with me much, but I was entirely wrong.
It was the third day on the cruise and my cousin had been previously with the uncles the first two
days. He knocked on my room door with me and my other cousin Dave inside. I answered, and right
away he asked the both of us Yo what do you guys want to do? At first I was shocked that he was here,
but instead of acting confused I decided to go

The Psychological Effect Of Philanthropy And Psychology
Just as philanthropy has great societal effects, it also has many psychological effects. When people
decide to donate, they are bestowing on themselves an innumerable number of intangible costs, one of
these costs is the psychological implication is giving. (Bekkers Wiepking, 2010). Giving not only
contributes to the way others see one but also to the way one sees himself, this contributes to one s self
image as an altruistic, empathetic, social responsible, agreeable, or influential person (Bekkers
Wiepking, 2010). The first response one feels, however, is an emotional response, this response makes
one feel good and have a positive mood (Bekkers Wiepking, 2010). The nearly automatic response can
liberate one from feelings of guilt, which in turn satisfies one s desire to show gratitude or morality
(Bekkers Wiepking, 2010).
The first phenomenon that could be studied when linking together philanthropy and psychology, is the
do good, feel good phenomenon. Evidence suggests that helping others and helping behavior has
positive psychological effects on the helper or donor, this can be called, emphatic joy (Bekkers
Wiepking, 2010). Economic models of philanthropy suggest that this section of motives is called
warm glow or joy of giving (Bekkers Wiepking, 2010). Neuropsychological studies show that,
donating to charity release neural activities in areas that are responsible for reward processing in the
brain. (Bekkers Wiepking, 2010). In addition, the

A Research Project On Inuit Of Arctic Canada
Throughout the course of human history epidemic spurts of self destructive behaviour have posed both
pertinent philosophical and medical problems for societies all across the globe. Presently, in various
ethnic communities spread across the world, rates of suicide, substance abuse, and other detrimental
actions towards oneself display their highest rates among young people (CITE THIS). While much
research has been facilitated on the vast degree and distribution of self destructive behaviour, there
continues to remain a vast disparity in the academic literature that focuses on the underlying causes of
such action (CITE). My research will attempt to effectively contribute to this general lack of research
driven information through the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
With specific regards to anthropology, many highly regarded scholars have done, and continue to do,
ethnographic work within Inuit communities. This research, generally ethnographic in nature, focuses
on a plethora of different anthropological issues and attempts to address the growing level of cultural
adversity the people of the Arctic currently face. Interestingly, even the renowned French
anthropologist Marcel Mauss has had a seemingly profound influence on anthropological research
among the Inuit, even though he never in fact visited the Canadian arctic himself during his lifetime
(Inuit Studies 2006).
Although social researchers have done a significant amount of work with the Inuit, a large amount of
said research with communities has in fact resulted in more harm than good (Thomas et el 2011, 165).
Due to this detrimental nature, many groups of both Inuit and First nations people alike have grown
increasingly sceptical of researchers who come to facilitate research within their respective societies.
To avoid such negative research impacts, many studies with Native American groups have adopted a
community based participatory research approach. Community Based Participatory Research (CBPR)
has been presented as an effective way to help alleviate the dichotomous divide between researchers
and communities (Golberg Freeman et al 2007, in Thomas et al 2011, 167). In addition to this, the

Whaling In Japan
Part III: What I Learned Whaling has become a popular topic with in the last few decades. It has been
going on for centuries and was finally band in 1931 (Matera 3). But this didn t stop the Japanese at all.
By researching my topic I found that I did not know a lot about whaling, which made me want to dig
even deeper. At the beginning of this process, I looked into Whaling. I already knew that there was a
war going on between Japan and the United States because of the show Whale Wars, but I didn t know
any background information. I was always curious before but now I actually had a reason to do
research. In Part I of this project it asked me to describe everything I knew, assumed, and imagined
about whaling. During Part one I knew that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I went to the Scottsdale Community College library website and searched whaling. All the sources I
chosen was through Academic Search Premier. Every thing that I read put me in a new perspective
about my topic. I learned that whaling has been going on since the eleventh century, and commercial
whaling became illegal in 1931 (Matera 3). I found out that the United States actually whaled at some
point but it was not for the meat, it was for the whale oil. During the eighteenth and nineteenth
centuries, whaling started to become a problem. During this time Japan started to be the main whaling
country, this is when everything flipped upside down ( Greenpeace Says Japan Ready for Whaling. ).
In another source I was reading, I found out that in the 1980s, eight countries joined the International
Whaling Commission (IWC) to stop the world from whaling (Hyder 10). I also looked more into the
Sea Shepherds. The Sea Shepherds are a full volunteer based program to go out into the artic and try
and save as many whales as they can. Every year they go out and face Japan s whaling fleet, which are
five boats against the SS three. I learned that Japan got very hostile in the last couple tours (Kita 3).
They were ramming into the SS boats, even the little speedboat, which was an eighth of the size of
their ship. When I was reading a different article called Whales , I learned that whales eat around forty
thousand krill a day and if whales

The Lovesong Of J Alfred Prufrock And Preludes
The portrayal of alienation and existential nihilism inherent in modern life pervades T.S Eliot s poems,
therefore, directly resonating with Jeanette Winterson s perspective of the modernist writer. By
exploring the isolation of men and the futility of life in a modernised society through The Love Song
of J Alfred Prufrock (1915) and Preludes (1915), T.S Eliot questions the uncertainty of the
Modernistic lifestyle. Both these poems which are derived from T.S Eliot s historical and cultural
context in Post war Europe, present aloofness and nihilism as manifestations of the superficiality and
pretensions of the modern urban environment. T.S Eliot s poetry has transformed the world of
modernist poetry and remains valued as contemporary society ... Show more content on

In the poem, Prufrock believes that he has endured a monotonous life and constantly expresses his
discontent and restlessness. Prufrock emphasises on his discontent of what he perceived as the
emptiness and meaningless of modernistic life. During the WW1 era where society was saturated by
disillusionment and discontent, life was seen as unpromising and meaningless. This directly correlates
to the attitude of the poem, as Prufrock constantly relays the desolateness of his life. He asserts his
overall boredom and perceives life as futile when he states I have measured my life with coffee spoons
. Through T.S Eliot s use of metaphor, Eliot refers to the mundane aspects of Prufrock s life as the
most significant moments of his life, which confronts responders with the mendacity of their lives and
reflects Eliot s perspective. Here, Eliot s nihilistic perspective of life directly relates to Jeanette
Winterson s critical perspective, stating that he was such a sensitive soul that he was easily
overwhelmed by impressions, by situations, by events, by people...he suffered continually. Winterson
implicates that Eliot was a highly sensitive individual as such the experiences he faced personally and
those that others faced deeply affect him, therefore accounting for his nihilistic view of life and
humanity itself. Furthermore, T.S Eliot utilises repetition through, For I have known them all already,
known them all to reinforce Prufrock s realisation of the meaningless life he leads. The repetition of
known them all , infers that Prufrock s life is absent of intrinsic value and completely worthless as he
has no more to offer. Prufrock surrenders to the superficial, barren aspects of life and society,
perceiving human existence as futile when he states he Shall wear the bottoms of my trousers

The Cost Of A Rent A Room
Task 1.
James collects Β£150 state pension per week, which means he receives Β£7,800 of state pension
annually; pension from his employer is Β£25,000 per year. These pensions are taxable and treated as
non saving incomes (Lymer and Oats, 2014).
James and his wife Jess let 40% of their house to a tenant, who pays Β£15,000 rent annually and there
are Β£2,000 allowable expenses. In this case the allowable expense is only 60% out of Β£2000 and Wear
and Tear is 10% of rental income. As James and Jess share property income the total income is halved
and James receives Β£6,150 (Lymer and Oats, 2014).

is less than the normal allowance; so he restricted only to Β£10,000 (Lymer and Oats, 2014).
According to all the workings, the taxable income is calculated and provided in a table below.
James and Jess bought a house in 1991 and lived there since purchasing time, this means that the
house is there only and main residence, therefore they will get qualified only with 60% relief of PPR,
as have let 40% of their house as a residential accommodation. Moreover, they can claim letting relief
either of the gain accruing during the letting period, Β£40,000 or total gain which is exempt under the
PPR requirements. What is more as husband and wife they have Β£22,000 CGT relief (split of Β£11,000
each). Finally Jess will be charged at 18% of CGT as she only has rental income, James s income is
lower than Β£31,865 and he will be taxed at 18% as well (Lymer and Oats,2014).
Task 2.
As Fred s business is expanding, he can employ one full time employee with an annual salary of
Β£25,000. Fred has to pay National insurance contribution under the Class 1 rules, as both employer
and employees pay contributions in such businesses (Lymer and Oats, 2014). According to Class 1,
Fred will pay NI of Β£2,337.72((Β£480.77 Β£155) x 13.8% x 52weeks), contribution rate is 13.8%

In TED Talk The Other Inconvenient Truth, video Mr. Foley talks about how agriculture is changing
our environment. He contrasts pictures of 1975 to 2001 pictures of the Rondonia to show how much
we are expanding and clearing rainforest land. We are running out of land, today we are using 40
percent of Earth s land surface for crops and pastures. In the future we are going increase our usage
and this is also going to deplete our water resources. Agriculture uses 70 percent of our water. He
points out an irrigation field in Arizona where they are growing lettuce in the middle of the desserts
using a lot of water. To show how much water we have used so far, he shows pictures of the Colorado
River in the 1950s and the pictures are staggering.

Why Do Accountants Have Too Much Power
Ruth Hines paper discussing how we construct reality is very interesting and leads one to wonder
whether accountants have too much power. Accounting classes teach concepts of realization and
organizations as if it has always been that way. It is hard to think of why accountants do things the
way they do, because it is just the way it is supposed to be done. Accountants are considered to be the
professionals that everyday stakeholders trust to provide reliable information. As Hines said,
Everything would be a mess without us. Naturally, everyone assumes accountants always know how
to handle an issue; it is safe to say most people assume they do not have issues in the first place. But,
of course, there are always issues that need to be handled.

the best graphics and a vast amount of options which include violent video games. Violent video
games have gotten more popular with the vast amount of variety including the franchise of Call of
Duty, Battlefield, and Grand Theft Auto. In addition, these are the most common and sought after
video games, and because of the violence in those games, debate has started whether or not violent
video games cause people especially adolescents to be more violent and destructive in society. Since
the debate has started, research has been conducted and the introduction of violent video games into
society has not resulted in violence to increase in adolescents and children. Over the years violent
video game sales have skyrocketed and there is no correlation with juvenile crime rates that suggests
that those games resulted with more violence in society. Furthermore, in a recent article from ProCon
the National Center for Education Statistics and Nicholas Lovell stated The number of high school
students who had been in at least one physical fight decreased from 43% in 1991 to 25% in 2013, and
student reports of criminal victimization at school dropped by more than half from 1995 to 2011 (1).
This demonstrates that violent video games do not result in violence, but actually resulted in violence

Question 1 Are interest rate changes predictable?
Interest rates are not entirely predictable but can be inferred from present interest rate prices. For
example, when current interest rates are exceptionally low, future interest rates can be expected to rise
and vice versa.

Unprotected Sex Leads to an Increase in Pregnancy, Social...
Unprotected sex is becoming increasingly common today which brings an increase in the risks of the
effects; including pregnancy, social discrimination, and various diseases. The majority of unprotected
sex is acted upon within teenagers. However, adults act upon this feat as well. While performing
sexual proceedings, you use a condom to prevent the corrupting effects due to unprotected sex from
happening to you. In the absence of using a condom, the effects are amplified. Most people are aware
of the consequences of unprotected sex, although, the choice of using a condom to protect you during
sexual intercourse is still not always the prevailing decision. Furthermore, people may not be fully

Some teens that become pregnant are still in high school or just beginning a college education.
Pregnancy is a large responsibility that can intermittently be disregarded. Thus, you don t have a
choice but to be prepared for a child and the responsibility that comes with pregnancy. Not only do
you have to help nurture a child and support them, it costs you a vast amount of money as well. As a
teenager and still in school, having enough money to sustain you and a child on your own is very
intricate. As a result, trying to finish school and accomplish future career goals is difficult with less
money and a child to care for. Social discrimination occurs as a result of unprotected sex and as a

Effect Of The Immmersion Of Manga
Effect of The Immersion of Manga
A Brief Take on Comic Books Counterpart.
Are you an Otaku? A growing group of people, united, fans of Anime and Manga all over the world
call themselves this name, but how did this craze begin?
What is Manga s appeal?
Manga is a Japanese graphic novel, known most commonly to be similar to traditional Comic Books
from the US. The differences lie in the art styles, genre and reading ways. Unlike the comic books
featuring superheroes, Japanese Manga focuses on issues from psychological insights to school life
and historical stories. Manga also has a very different feel from Comic Books due to the natural
shading and black and white themes. Although Manga is now available in many bookstores all over
the world, the transition from Manga being exotic to a common reading material took a long time and
three major steps until it became inspiration to people outside of Japan.

differences set areas apart, the Japanese language and ways may seem new or exotic. Additionally this
otherness encouraged the rise of the integration and introduction of Manga. The Anime and Manga

Exploring the Disorder, Tourette Syndrome Essay
Tourette syndrome is a neurological disorder first described by a French physician named Georges
Gilles de la Tourette, in 1885. Tourette syndrome (TS) consists of varies abrupt, rapid, involuntary,
and repeated movements or vocal sounds, known as tics. Until 1970, TS was frequently misdiagnosed
as schizophrenia, obsessive compulsive disorder, epilepsy, or nervous habits, concluding that this
mental disorder is extremely rare and has similar characteristics as other mental disorders (Kahn and
Fawcett 375). Since there is no specific test that can diagnose TS, doctors have to rely on a person s
behaviors and personal history to identify the disorder. About one person in two thousand people is
likely to have TS; additionally males are four ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Many people often misunderstand TS as rudeness, offensive behavior, and even craziness. Thus,
children with TS are often ridiculed or teased by their fellow peers. Due to this, many children avoid
social gathering and suffer from depression or substance abuse. This is one of the many reasons why
children with tics should be informed of their disorder and should receive tremendous amounts of
support and love from their friends and families. People with TS are also likely to have other mental
problems like depression, anxiety, OCD, ADHD, and self injurious behaviors. As mentioned above,
TS can occur in anyone, even famous people. Some of the famous people that had TS were Jim
Eisenreich, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, and Marc Summers. TS does not disable a person from
working efficiently or living a perfectly normal life. People with TS can attend and succeed school
just as a normal person can. The disorder does not affect their intelligence or their ability to learn, thus
enabling them to live a perfectly normal life. They have the same earning potential, intelligence, and
working ability similar to any other person. One of the best ways to cope with TS is to remember that
the tics usually lessen in severity as an individual gets older. Tics usually reach its highest potential
during early teens to the middle years of adolescence. If a person with TS

the case for Adnan Syed, an innocent guy who was put in jail for a murder case. On January 13, 1999,
Hae Min Lee was murdered at the age of 17. The evidence in this case was very unexplainable, but of
course, the state went after Hae s ex boyfriend Adnan who really had nothing to do with the murder.
Things that prove Adnan s innocence are the breakup between him and Hae, how Adnan thought about

Descriptive Essay On Guest House
Crash A typical day at my grandparent s cabin in the Black Hills consists of a lot of sitting around and
just hanging out. Some days the whole family will go on a four wheeler ride for most of the day.
Sometimes we will go do something like visit a cave or drive to Rapid City or Custer or Hill City or

knowing that it was going to be a great one. My dad s side of the family includes Stetson and Nick.
Not many people outside of my family have been to my grandparent s cabin, so I ll give you a little
description, it s not very small. The main house consists of 4 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms, plus a lot of
space in the kitchen and living room. Next, you have a smaller guest house which consists of 3
bedrooms and 1 bathroom, plus a garage.

the guest house rooms where there are 3 beds with a TV. One of the beds is a full size bed where
Stetson sleeps, and Nick and I sleep in 2 twin size beds. However, the twin size beds will give you a

Modern Day Attacks Against Firewalls and Virtual Private Networks
Electronic technology is growing at a rapid rate; more devices are made mobile and wireless, but with
those improvement and developments come flaws and malicious opportunities. Cyber attacks are on
the rise and no system or device is immune. Many organizations employ multiple layers of firewalls
but that doesn t completely eliminate the threat. Attacks against firewalls and virtual private networks
or VPNs are constantly being exploited with new methods everyday, but they are yet another obstacle
that a cyber criminal must overcome. First let s discuss what a firewall is and what a firewall is
capable of doing. Firewall applications are ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Unfortunately, many firewalls come with so many rules or policies that they can counteract the
security desired and create loopholes for network threats or actually block traffic that is desired or
requested by the user. These issues make it really important to understand how all rules and policies in
the firewall work and how to apply them. Another tool often used for secure reasons and also as a
reliable method to share information remotely is called a Virtual Private Network or VPN. Henry
describes A VPN as a group of computers (or discrete networks) networked together over a public
network namely, the internet (para 3, 2012). Basically, it s a private network created to allow remote
access through a public network. Most often you will see that employees on airplanes or in a public
place that will require and utilize these VPNs to access their business resources for all kinds of
information, but some people just use it as a means to use their network without physically
compromising the actual systems. A good VPN can provide many functions such as access anywhere
worldwide without dedicated lines, data security, remote access to business resources and better
employee production. For these VPNs to perform these functions properly they are required to provide
reliability by ensuring that the network does not break down before reaching its max capacity,
scalability to ensure the ability to expand as business grows, and of

Self Reliance And Self-Reliance In Into The Wild By Jon...
Trust thyself: Every heart vibrates to that iron string (Emerson). When you read that quote many
would think it is about trusting their first instincts. The way I read it though is trust in your own
decisions even if they go off the normal beaten path because everyone has their own path they are
destined to travel on. This theory of self reliance is shown in Into the Wild by Jon Krakauer and Self
Reliance by Ralph Waldo Emerson since they both display it in following their passion in self
reliance.
In Into The Wild Jon Krakauer described the life of a non conformist that traveled across North
America; his name was Chris McCandless. McCandless believed in passion and how it was a must
since it gave purpose and happiness to a person. One of these examples is when McCandless got rid of
his whole past and started to recreate the future. He did this by giving $25,000 to charity, abandoning
his car, and burning all the cash in his wallet (Krakauer). This showed that Chris was willing to drop
everything to follow his dream and that his passion drove him in making his decisions. Chris also didn
t tell his family where he was going which shows that he left his family behind also. I just don t
understand why he had to take those kind of chances, ... I just don t understand at all (Krakauer 132).

just leaving all together. To me it felt like his mom felt bad about his death

Chattel Slaves In Ancient Egypt
Chattel slaves were mostly captives of war. All captives, including civilians not a part of the military
forces, become a royal resource. The pharaoh would then resettle the captives by moving them into
colonies for labour, giving them to temples, giving them as rewards to deserving individuals, and
giving them to his soldiers as booty. Some chattel slaves began as free people who were found guilty
of committing illicit acts and were forced to give up their freedom. Other chattel slaves were born into

Wheelhead s Role In The Hydrosphere
The continuous change of carbon in the universe eventually leads back to itself. In this story, a carbon
atom, named wheelhead, goes through this cycle without even realizing it. Wheelhead started in a
plant biosphere contained in a tree, but not any tree, the hardwood of a pinyon pine. Wheelhead was
here for millions of years as a part of this tree. Natural processes struck Wheelhead, like it had
thousands of times before, and buried him in a landslide. Over time, the compression of Wheelhead
and his similar carbon atoms, resulted in the formation of Wheelhead into coal. Wheelhead is no
longer in a plant biosphere, instead, Wheelhead must adjust to the fossil fuel lithosphere.

Wheelhead is a part of the groundwater in the hydrosphere. Wheelhead remained here for 100 years
before the next step in his journey occurs. Wheelhead precipitated out of the water as the mineral
travertine. Next Wheelhead will find himself again in the lithosphere, but this time, in the lithosphere
limestone.
Wheelhead finds himself a part of Kaibab limestone in the lithosphere. Millions of years Wheelhead

Being CO2 wasn t what Wheelhead wanted necessarily. Wheelhead thought of the old times where he

number of repeats produces an expanded version of mRNA, which then forms clumps inside the cell

Essay Urban Inequality
Introduction:
In Urban Studies two schools of academic thought answer the urban question : the ecological and
urban political economy schools. I will argue that the political economy perspective better allows us to
fully grasp the urban question where society and space mutually encompass each other and allow us to
better explain and address urban inequality. First, I will develop a working definition of the urban
question . Second, I will write on the ecological school s view of the urban question and how their
vista explains but inadequately addresses urban inequalities. Third, I will review the political economy
(social spatial dialect) landscape of the urban question and how their panorama explains and gives

Essentially, the political economist asks the urban question in two parts, the first questions asks how
do wider social processes affect urban societies and their relationship to geographical space? The
second question asks: how do wider social, political or economic processes affect spaces which impact
upon wider social, political or economic dynamics? Understanding the two academic schools, I will,
in the next two sections, further argue that the interrelationship of society and space from a political
economy standard better allows us to address and understand urban inequalities.
Society and Space: Ecological thought
The ecological school fails to fully address the modern social dynamic of urban inequality. The
ecological perception sees urban social, political and economic unevenness as urban stratification.
Stratification is the end result from the geography or conditions of the city. Again, the underlying
premise that geographical landscape (space) influences social grouping and behavior (society)
becomes central to the urban question . The ecological notion leaves out any beliefs to wider social,
political and economic processes that address geographic location and impinge upon the social
concept of urban inequality (Burgess, 1925). The urban ecologist see urban racial or ethnic, and

establishment of the capital at Edo which in present day Japan is called the iconic Tokyo. Additionally,
he established a strong central government, along with his shoguns imposing an era of unity, stability,
and peace in Japan. The shoguns closely monitored and controlled the local daimyo possessed a
relative amount of power but remained to be tested for their loyalty and kept under control by the
shoguns who restricted their family and eventually became hostages. The daimyo was required to
maintain two residences in an attempt to prevent rebellion because of this wasting factor which
prohibited them as they had minuscule amounts of time to construct a powerful army due to constantly
needing to defend two residences. The Tokugawa period was an era of peace, stability, and

Abstract This paper describes a process in which olives were preserved in acidic brine and then
exposed to an overpressure of oxygen. This experiment determined that after being exposed for one to
three days that the fruit no longer had a bitter taste. It is thought that this is due to the oxidation of the
phenolic compounds contained within the olives. It was shown that this correlated with a decrease in
the amount of bound glucoside oleuropein found within the samples. Several variables were tested
such as the overpressure level, concentration of oxygen, and temperature. The results show that this
new method of olive debittering could be a viable treatment of commercially produced olives while
also producing less waste and increasing yields ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When exposed to open air for five days at various temperatures (20 and 40 degree Celsius) the
bitterness remained. However, the bitterness was completely absent in fruits treated with an
overpressure of oxygen. It was shown that the rate of debittering was dependent on the concentration
of oxygen. As the concentration of oxygen was increased, the faster the oxidation occurred throughout
the entire fruit. The rate was also faster in samples treated with pure oxygen rather than pressurized air
as seen in Figure 3. Temperature did not affect the rate of the debittering process in samples treated
with pure oxygen but cut the time of the reaction in half in samples using air. It was found that fruits
that underwent oxidation reaction under overpressured conditions showed a significant decrease in the
compounds associated with olive bitterness such as hydroxytyrosol (bound) and oleuropein as
highlighted by Table 1. To confirm this HPLC chromatograms (Figure 4) were used to show the
decrease and/or absence of the bitterness compounds. In the chromatogram you can see a clear
absence of both oleuropein and hydroxytyrosol in the treated juice and oil. This means the oxidation
occurred and did in fact eliminate the target compounds. The oxidation reaction occurs at the two
alcohol groups attached to the bound hydroxytyrosol group converting them to keto groups as shown
in Figure 2. The simple

Cancer Immunology
Cancer: Cancer can be defining as disease condition in which cell divide and proliferate
uncontrollably bypassing the normal rules of cell division. It is characterized by a progression of
changes on cellular and genetic level that ultimately reprogram a cell to undergo uncontrolled cell
division, thus forming a malignant mass.
Carcinogenesis:
Cancers consist of single clones or several clones of cells that are capable of partially (benign tumor)
or fully (malignant cancer) independent growth in the host. The essence of carcinogenesis is the
activation (deregulation) of genes that regulate cell growth via bypassing the host s regulatory circuits.
Multiple genes must be deregulated for the development of fully malignant ... Show more content on

Immunotherapy of virus associated cancers can be directed against viral antigens vital for viral
replication or growth. The human papillomavirus (HPV) E6 and E7 proteins interfere with normal cell
cycle regulation and are required for the viral life cycle.
Examples of tumer antigen are
Human Chorionic Gonadotropin (HCG): A glycoprotein hormone produced during pregnancy. Some
cancerous tumors produce this hormone; therefore, elevated levels measured when the patient is not
pregnant can lead to a cancer diagnosis.
Alpha Fetoprotein (AFP): Major plasma protein produced by the yolk sac and the liver during fetal
development The human fetus has the highest amount of AFP levels found in humans. Normal adult
levels are usually achieved by the age of 8 to 12 months. The function of AFP in adults is unknown;
however, in fetus it binds estradiol to prevent the transport of this hormone across the placenta.
Prostate Specific Antigen: Prostate specific antigen (PSA) is a protein produced by cells of the
prostate gland called a biological marker or a tumor marker. It is normal for men to have a low level of
PSA in their blood; however, prostate cancer or benign (not cancerous) conditions can increase a man
s PSA level.
Carcinoembryonic Antigen (CEA) Michael (2001): CEA was first described in 1965 by Gold and
Freedman present in both fetal colon and colon adenocarcinoma but that appeared to be absent

Relationship Between Milk Market Participation
In this chapter, we study the relationship between the milk market participation of smallholder
households and women`s intra household bargaining power in Ethiopia. Our data show that household
income is indeed substantially higher in milk market participating households (101 versus 49 birr
daily). This higher income of participating households is almost completely earned by selling raw
milk to the market. The other way of receiving milk income processing raw milk into butter and
cottage cheese for sale at the local market is much less important in market participant households
than in non participant households.
This difference has important consequences for the distribution of income within the household. Milk
income from the formal market is received and controlled by men (who sign the contract with the milk
company), whereas income from the local market is received and controlled by women. The
consequences for the intra household distribution of income are clearly reflected in our data. In milk
market participant households, men`s milk income is on average 93 birr per day, whereas in non
participant households men do not earn income from milk on a daily bases. Women tend to earn and
control the entire dairy income in non participant households (34 birr per day), but earn only 4 birr
milk income per day in market participant households.
The central goal of the current study was to find out what the consequences of this change are for the
bargaining position of

Job Reflection
Job a man whose name is synonymous with trials . No doubt about it, Job suffered unimaginable loss,
heartache, and anguish. In the first chapter alone, we see him lose his property, his livelihood, and
worse, all of his children. Just one of those losses alone would be a trial in of itself, but Job lost
everything in a single day!
After hearing the tragic news, we are told in Job 1:20 that he got to his feet indicating that the weight
of his loss made this godly man crumble to his knees and ripped his robe and shaved his head (the
mourning custom of his day). Then he fell to the ground and worshiped. When I read this, I notice two
very interesting details:
Job worshiped despite his grief
Job worshiped during his grief
Job, who just lost so much, was able to still worship God in defiance of his trial. Nor did he wait until
the trial was over. It is easy to worship God in the light. But in the darkness, when we can t see and
when fear and anxiety set in, worshiping God can sometimes be the furthest from our minds. Sure we
pray and ask for deliverance from the trail, but do we worship Him during the trial? Because there is a
difference.
Simply stated, prayer is communication with our Lord; while worship is honoring and adoring Him.
Prayer can sometimes be selfish because we are often asking for something, while worship is all about
the Lord. So yes, it is possible to pray without worshiping Him. Job 1:20 makes a point to tell us that
Job worshiped God. He

Cardiovascular Disease Prevention Program
Cardiovascular Disease Prevention Program Cardiovascular is a class of disease that involve the heart
or the blood vessels which includes veins, arteries, and capillaries, or both can affect the cardio system
(Nordqvist, 2014).The CVD system convey oxygenated blood through the arteries for the entire body.
Cardiovascular can cause other illness associated with the disease like coronary artery and heart
disease, high blood pressure, diabetes, and strokes. How do these diseases affect the body? Coronary
artery and heart disease happens when plaque builds up where damage occurs in the arteries due to
smoking, high levels of fats and cholesterol in the blood, and inflammation in the blood vessels
(National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute, 2012). High blood pressure (Hypertension) is cause when
the heart has to work harder to execute blood for the body and it also hardens the arteries which later
develops heart failure. Several conditions will cause HBP or hypertension like smoking, overweight,
lack of physical activity, high sodium diet or alcohol consumption, stress and family history. Diabetes
occurs when the body does not have adequacy to produce any or enough insulin (triglyceride) causes
elevated levels of glucose in the blood ( what is diabetes Google Search ). Stroke develops when
blood clots block an artery or a blood vessel breaks that interfere with the blood flow to a region of the
brain (National Stroke Association, 2014).

The Impact Of Contemporary Uk On New Zealand Essay
The increase in globalization has enabled a plethora of means in which organizations can access more
talent and new technology that have become available. Due to this phenomenon, businesses have
required to become more creative and embrace change as an essential method of staying competitive
in their marketplace. The increase in ethnic group migration to New Zealand and the concept of
managing this diverse range of culture and interacting with individuals with different cultures, belief
systems is a current issue that impacts contemporary organisations in New Zealand. According to
Sayers (2012), countries throughout history have different yet related ways to deal with inequality and
discrimination issues that occur through diverse people existing in close proximity. From social
movements focusing on womens rights, civil rights, anti slavery and indigenous rights, to modern
diversity such as disability activism and managing diversity in the workplace, it is apparent that this
issue of managing diversity is an ongoing encounter. Looking at the 2013 Census published by
Statistics New Zealand (2013), we can see a substantial increase in ethnic groups in New Zealand
since the 2006 Census. There is a 14% increase in European ethnicities, 6% increase in Maori, 11%
increase in Pacific peoples, 33% increase in Asians, and 35% increase in Middle Eastern, Latin
American, and African ethnicities since 2006. Sayers (2012) states that demographic change is the
main reason organizations

  • 2. Leslie Sponsel s Approach to Investigation of the Amazon... Leslie Sponsel takes a remarkably sensible approach to certain academic controversies over anthropological investigation of the Amazon Basin. To some degree, Sponsel s article demands to be understood in a larger context within the overall ecosystem of academic anthropology, so to speak. As indicated in the title of her article, Sponsel approaches the subject with a special focus on adaptation, which necessarily implies changing conditions. As she notes in her introductory remarks: For convenience the review is organized around the following domains: ecosystem, cultural system, change, and research trends and needs. An ecosystem is composed of abiotic and biotic components which interact through the flow of energy, matter, and information, and all of this varies in space and time. (67) It is here that a reader in 2012 gets a glimpse of the much larger context. At the time of Sponsel s writing in 1986, an ecological approach that included the flow of Β¦information which varies in space and time appears remarkable prescient, considering that in the three decades that have passed since the article s original publication, Sponsel s own culture has undergone a complete technological revolution in flow of Β¦information : the Internet, the cellular telephone, the personal computer were all in their infancy. This may seem like a minor point, but it indicates the fundamental validity of Sponsel s approach: the contentious battles over theory between anthropologists like ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Why You Should Buy An Apple Macintosh Computer Essay Do you own a computer? What kind of computer is it? Is it a Microsoft PC, running Windows Vista? Or is it an Apple Macintosh running Mac OS X? Using a PC can be such a hassle. Macintosh computers are so much better and easier to use than a PC. Macs also are better for the planet, have a longer lifespan, have more reliable hardware, are less likely to crash or get viruses, have better security features, it s very easy to transfer all your files from a PC to a Mac, and a Mac can be a PC if you really wanted it too. But I will explain that last one later. First, I will tell you about how the build of the Macintosh computer is a big reason of the rapid growth of Macs. In 2007, 2008, and 2009, Apple s Macbook, Macbook Pro, and I Mac (their ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... A recent study by the magazine PC Advisor, stated that a Mac owner who uses no security software at all runs less risk of getting spyware or a virus than a person who owns a PC and obsessively protects it. In the year 2008 there were 114,000 known viruses for PC s. But there has never been a virus that could harm a Mac. Apple does admit they have come across some security flaws, but within a day of the flaws discovery Apple creates a security update, and every single Mac user gets a notification from Apple saying that there is a flaw and an update available that can correct it. And personally, I think one of the reasons Mac is so successful is because of their hardware. For example, lets pretend I bought a new PC. Dell made the monitor and tower. Mircosoft made the hardware and operating system. Intel made the processor. Nvidia made the graphics drive. And the consumer is the one putting everything together. The average desktop PC takes 2.5 hours to put together, and you re the one who has to do it! If you do one thing wrong you could cut your computer s life in half. The worst part is, the more pieces and components that are in the computer, there are more places that something could go wrong. When you buy a desktop Mac, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Perpetual Peace Theory Essay Kant, Liberal Legacies, and Foreign Affairs (1983) essay by M.Doyle, the main modern liberal thinker. on democratic peace theory, bring back to life Kant s Perpetual peace (1795) theory by analysing the lack of wars btween liberal democratic states. Nowadays, the democratic peace theory is one of the most accepted theses among the international relations community. It is considered as one of the most stable and unbreakable Β« law Β» of the field. This theory explain that democracies do not fight each other, not because the people living in it are intrinsically pacific, but because between democracies war is the last resort since it has become such an irrational way to deal with issues. Negative freedoms are the freedoms which are protecting the citizens from arbitrary authority freedom of conscience, free press and speech, equality under the law, and the right to hold and exchange fearlessly property. Those rights are essential because they avoid the anarchical Β« state of nature Β» and enable citizens to live in an organized society where their rights are protected. • 5. Philonous And Hylas Play Summary The dialogue begins with Philonous and Hylas, the protagonists, running into each other. Philonous is surprised to see Hylas awake so early, but Hylas seems mad. Hylas explains that he has been contemplating over crazy beliefs that some philosophers have; those who believe nothing at all, and those who believe everything. Hylas is scared that the philosophers will put thoughts in people s heads, eventually turning them against their own religion and beliefs. Philonous agrees with Hylas and explains how doesn t follow what he learned in school, rather he embraces common sense opinions. Hylas is relieved to find out Philonous doesn t believe in these insane thoughts (mind independent reality) that some of their friends do. Philonous explains that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Philonous now begins to explain how materialism can lead to skepticism. Philonous must now explain that there is no reason to believe in mind independent reality. Philonous introduces the argument from pleasure and pain as well as the argument of perceptual relativity. First, he makes Hylas admit that we can only sense sensible things, and that sensible things are nothing but groups of sensible qualities. Hylas hesitates, but Philonous reassures him. Philonous gives a cherry as an example; a small, red, sweet cluster, which in actuality could be something other than this. Philonous now introduces the idea of pain and pleasure. Philonous explains that pain is mind dependant, meaning that pain cannot exist if nobody is feeling it. The same goes with pleasure. Philonous then explains that this does not only apply to pain and pleasure, but to any sensible quality. First, Philonous tries to relate heat with pain. He says that inanimate objects cannot feel pain or pleasure; Matter is inanimate; Matter cannot feel pain nor pleasure; heat is a form of pain; therefore matter is incapable of feeling heat; This means heat is mind ... • 6. Feminist Concept Of Feminism We are nearly 20 years into the 21st century, and generally speaking there has been progress and obstacles in the pursuit of women rights. An issue that I would like to expand on that is within the parameters of women s rights is reproductive rights and justice. Reproductive rights as a goal is universal, but it is also complex. This complexity stems from the fact that not every oppression is the same, and what one person could consider a benefit, others could find fault in it. I believe that the grundnorm that forms the basis of reproductive rights is bodily integrity, and when we think of bodily integrity we should think through a transnational feminist lens. From this concept of transnational feminism, it is important to note that feminism should be plural because a transnational approach points to the multiplicity of the world s feminisms and to the increasing tendency of national feminisms to politicize women s issues beyond the borders of the nation state (Gupta 24). A transnational feminisms approach allows for us, the reader, to yes acknowledge that there are commonalities, but to create a coalition we must also acknowledge the differences and build from there. Our lives are structured around so many systems that are in effect that we do not acknowledge. An unsupported claim I am going to say is that a lot of people do not realize the effects of globalization because we, as people, are individualistic. The fact that we as people are individualistic is relevant to bodily integrity because we do the things we do for ourselves. Whatever we do to our bodies is our choice, or we like to believe that we should have the right to make that choice. This matter of choice is something that constantly is brought up when reproductive rights are discussed. Space, solidarity between the sexes, the social and material conditions of a given situation, the effects of class and race divisions, biological contingency, and individual control and collective responsibility are intersecting axis that make up why it is difficult to essentially please everyone in the fight for reproductive rights. Some reproductive issues that I would like to examine are sex selective abortion, access to birth control, and forced ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Although, there is one day that out of all is clear as daylight in my head, down to every second. I think this is due to the day being different than all the other days. In my life, I experienced something I thought I never would. My most important day of my life is when I finally met my older cousin Akash, while we were on our vacation on the cruise. I always knew my cousin Akash, but we had never truly spoke nor bonded. He d always do his own thing, and I guess you could say I looked up to him due to the type of person he was. I d really only see him at family parties due to us not being first cousins, but suddenly he stopped coming to them. It didn t matter if it was a family get together, birthday, Christmas, or anything else, he would never show up. This made it impossible for me to ever see him. However, then I found out that he d be coming with us on the cruise. To be honest, at first I didn t care much because I thought he wouldn t associate with me much, but I was entirely wrong. It was the third day on the cruise and my cousin had been previously with the uncles the first two days. He knocked on my room door with me and my other cousin Dave inside. • 8. The Psychological Effect Of Philanthropy And Psychology Just as philanthropy has great societal effects, it also has many psychological effects. When people decide to donate, they are bestowing on themselves an innumerable number of intangible costs, one of these costs is the psychological implication is giving. (Bekkers Wiepking, 2010). Giving not only contributes to the way others see one but also to the way one sees himself, this contributes to one s self image as an altruistic, empathetic, social responsible, agreeable, or influential person (Bekkers Wiepking, 2010). The first response one feels, however, is an emotional response, this response makes one feel good and have a positive mood (Bekkers Wiepking, 2010). The nearly automatic response can liberate one from feelings of guilt, which in turn satisfies one s desire to show gratitude or morality (Bekkers Wiepking, 2010). The first phenomenon that could be studied when linking together philanthropy and psychology, is the do good, feel good phenomenon. Evidence suggests that helping others and helping behavior has positive psychological effects on the helper or donor, this can be called, emphatic joy (Bekkers Wiepking, 2010). Economic models of philanthropy suggest that this section of motives is called warm glow or joy of giving (Bekkers Wiepking, 2010). Neuropsychological studies show that, donating to charity release neural activities in areas that are responsible for reward processing in the brain. (Bekkers Wiepking, 2010). In addition, the ... Presently, in various ethnic communities spread across the world, rates of suicide, substance abuse, and other detrimental actions towards oneself display their highest rates among young people (CITE THIS). With specific regards to anthropology, many highly regarded scholars have done, and continue to do, ethnographic work within Inuit communities. This research, generally ethnographic in nature, focuses on a plethora of different anthropological issues and attempts to address the growing level of cultural adversity the people of the Arctic currently face. Interestingly, even the renowned French anthropologist Marcel Mauss has had a seemingly profound influence on anthropological research among the Inuit, even though he never in fact visited the Canadian arctic himself during his lifetime (Inuit Studies 2006). Although social researchers have done a significant amount of work with the Inuit, a large amount of said research with communities has in fact resulted in more harm than good (Thomas et el 2011, 165). Due to this detrimental nature, many groups of both Inuit and First nations people alike have grown increasingly sceptical of researchers who come to facilitate research within their respective societies. To avoid such negative research impacts, many studies with Native American groups have adopted a community based participatory research approach. Community Based Participatory Research (CBPR) has been presented as an effective way to help alleviate the dichotomous divide between researchers and communities (Golberg Freeman et al 2007, in Thomas et al 2011, 167). But this didn t stop the Japanese at all. By researching my topic I found that I did not know a lot about whaling, which made me want to dig even deeper. At the beginning of this process, I looked into Whaling. I already knew that there was a war going on between Japan and the United States because of the show Whale Wars, but I didn t know any background information. I was always curious before but now I actually had a reason to do research. In Part I of this project it asked me to describe everything I knew, assumed, and imagined about whaling. During Part one I knew that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I went to the Scottsdale Community College library website and searched whaling. I learned that whaling has been going on since the eleventh century, and commercial whaling became illegal in 1931 (Matera 3). I found out that the United States actually whaled at some point but it was not for the meat, it was for the whale oil. During the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries, whaling started to become a problem. During this time Japan started to be the main whaling country, this is when everything flipped upside down ( Greenpeace Says Japan Ready for Whaling. ). In another source I was reading, I found out that in the 1980s, eight countries joined the International Whaling Commission (IWC) to stop the world from whaling (Hyder 10). I also looked more into the Sea Shepherds. The Sea Shepherds are a full volunteer based program to go out into the artic and try and save as many whales as they can. Every year they go out and face Japan s whaling fleet, which are five boats against the SS three. I learned that Japan got very hostile in the last couple tours (Kita 3). • 13. The Lovesong Of J Alfred Prufrock And Preludes The portrayal of alienation and existential nihilism inherent in modern life pervades T.S Eliot s poems, therefore, directly resonating with Jeanette Winterson s perspective of the modernist writer. By exploring the isolation of men and the futility of life in a modernised society through The Love Song of J Alfred Prufrock (1915) and Preludes (1915), T.S Eliot questions the uncertainty of the Modernistic lifestyle. Both these poems which are derived from T.S Eliot s historical and cultural context in Post war Europe, present aloofness and nihilism as manifestations of the superficiality and pretensions of the modern urban environment. T.S Eliot s poetry has transformed the world of modernist poetry and remains valued as contemporary society ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In the poem, Prufrock believes that he has endured a monotonous life and constantly expresses his discontent and restlessness. Prufrock emphasises on his discontent of what he perceived as the emptiness and meaningless of modernistic life. During the WW1 era where society was saturated by disillusionment and discontent, life was seen as unpromising and meaningless. This directly correlates to the attitude of the poem, as Prufrock constantly relays the desolateness of his life. He asserts his overall boredom and perceives life as futile when he states I have measured my life with coffee spoons . Through T.S Eliot s use of metaphor, Eliot refers to the mundane aspects of Prufrock s life as the most significant moments of his life, which confronts responders with the mendacity of their lives and reflects Eliot s perspective. Here, Eliot s nihilistic perspective of life directly relates to Jeanette Winterson s critical perspective, stating that he was such a sensitive soul that he was easily overwhelmed by impressions, by situations, by events, by people...he suffered continually. Winterson implicates that Eliot was a highly sensitive individual as such the experiences he faced personally and those that others faced deeply affect him, therefore accounting for his nihilistic view of life and humanity itself. Furthermore, T.S Eliot utilises repetition through, For I have known them all already, known them all to reinforce Prufrock s realisation of the meaningless life he leads. The repetition of known them all , infers that Prufrock s life is absent of intrinsic value and completely worthless as he has no more to offer. Prufrock surrenders to the superficial, barren aspects of life and society, perceiving human existence as futile when he states he Shall wear the bottoms of my trousers ... The way I read it though is trust in your own decisions even if they go off the normal beaten path because everyone has their own path they are destined to travel on. This theory of self reliance is shown in Into the Wild by Jon Krakauer and Self Reliance by Ralph Waldo Emerson since they both display it in following their passion in self reliance. Violence In The Outsiders Martin Luther King Jr. once said, Violence brings only temporary victories; violence, by creating many more social problems than it solves, never brings permanent peace. Fighting is a growing problem, especially in the book The Outsiders. Violence does not help solve any problems and has many side effects. If anything, it creates more problems than actually solving any. In The Outsiders, there is a lot of fighting between the Socs and the Greasers, which leads to physical effects. When Ponyboy is walking home after watching a movie, he is jumped by five Socs with a pocketknife. Ponyboy was hurt badly and almost knocked out from them slugging him in the face. • 40. Myotonic Dystrophy Research Paper Myotonic Dystrophy is the most common form of muscular dystrophy. It is a chronic, multi system disorder that is characterized by progressive muscle wasting and weakness. Symptoms include; myotonia (prolonged muscle contractions), the inability to relax certain muscles after use, slurred speech, temporary locking of jaw, cataracts, abnormalities of the electrical signals that control the heartbeat, and early balding and infertility in men. There are two major types of myotonic dystrophy, type 1 and type 2. Many of the symptoms are overlapping, the only differences are type 1 is generally more severe than type 2 and type 1 affects the lower legs, hands, neck and face. Whereas, type 2 affects the neck, shoulders, elbows, and hips. Myotonic dystrophy ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This protein may play a role in the communication within cells, especially those of the heart, brain and skeletal muscles. It is believed that the protein is involved in the communication between cells and regulates the production and function of important structures inside muscles cells by interacting with other proteins. The DMPK gene is located on the long arm of chromosome 19 at position 13.3. It is between base pairs 45,769,708 and 45,782,556 making it 12848 base pairs long. It consists of a trinucleotide repeat of the nucleotide sequence CTG. Meaning that the nucleotides CTG are repeated multiple times. In a normal DMPK protein the number of CTG repeats ranges from 5 34. The mutation that causes myotonic dystrophy is known as trinucleotide repeat expansion, meaning it increases the number of times CTG is repeated in the gene. People with myotonic dystrophy can have 50 to 50,000 repeats, the more repeats an individual has the worse their symptoms are. The increased number of repeats produces an expanded version of mRNA, which then forms clumps inside the cell that interfere with the production of many other proteins. These clumps prevent muscle cells and cells in other tissues from functioning ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 41. Essay Urban Inequality Introduction: In Urban Studies two schools of academic thought answer the urban question : the ecological and urban political economy schools. I will argue that the political economy perspective better allows us to fully grasp the urban question where society and space mutually encompass each other and allow us to better explain and address urban inequality. First, I will develop a working definition of the urban question . Second, I will write on the ecological school s view of the urban question and how their vista explains but inadequately addresses urban inequalities. Third, I will review the political economy (social spatial dialect) landscape of the urban question and how their panorama explains and gives better analyses ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Essentially, the political economist asks the urban question in two parts, the first questions asks how do wider social processes affect urban societies and their relationship to geographical space? The second question asks: how do wider social, political or economic processes affect spaces which impact upon wider social, political or economic dynamics? Understanding the two academic schools, I will, in the next two sections, further argue that the interrelationship of society and space from a political economy standard better allows us to address and understand urban inequalities. Society and Space: Ecological thought The ecological school fails to fully address the modern social dynamic of urban inequality. The ecological perception sees urban social, political and economic unevenness as urban stratification. Stratification is the end result from the geography or conditions of the city. Again, the underlying premise that geographical landscape (space) influences social grouping and behavior (society) becomes central to the urban question . The ecological notion leaves out any beliefs to wider social, political and economic processes that address geographic location and impinge upon the social concept of urban inequality (Burgess, 1925). The urban ecologist see urban racial or ethnic, and economic ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 42. How Did The Edo Period Impact The Tokugawa Period How did the Tokugawa Period impact the people of Japan? The Tokugawa period or otherwise known as the Edo period has been recognised as an extremely significant aspect of Japanese history and left history changing effects on the country. In this essay, five primary aspects of the Edo period, which has helped produce present day Japan and had greatly impacted on the nation during this period will be addressed: Politics, Social structure,The Samurai, Relations with the West and Culture. Politics: Tokugawa rulers during the 17th century greatly improved a multitude of separate political aspects and as a result, positively impacted the nation and citizens. A primary example of this is Tokugawa s establishment of the capital at Edo which in present day Japan is called the iconic Tokyo. Additionally, he established a strong central government, along with his shoguns imposing an era of unity, stability, and peace in Japan. The shoguns closely monitored and controlled the local daimyo possessed a relative amount of power but remained to be tested for their loyalty and kept under control by the shoguns who restricted their family and eventually became hostages. The daimyo was required to maintain two residences in an attempt to prevent rebellion because of this wasting factor which prohibited them as they had minuscule amounts of time to construct a powerful army due to constantly needing to defend two residences. • 43. Barrier Lab Report Abstract This paper describes a process in which olives were preserved in acidic brine and then exposed to an overpressure of oxygen. This experiment determined that after being exposed for one to three days that the fruit no longer had a bitter taste. It is thought that this is due to the oxidation of the phenolic compounds contained within the olives. It was shown that this correlated with a decrease in the amount of bound glucoside oleuropein found within the samples. Several variables were tested such as the overpressure level, concentration of oxygen, and temperature. The results show that this new method of olive debittering could be a viable treatment of commercially produced olives while also producing less waste and increasing yields ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... When exposed to open air for five days at various temperatures (20 and 40 degree Celsius) the bitterness remained. However, the bitterness was completely absent in fruits treated with an overpressure of oxygen. It was shown that the rate of debittering was dependent on the concentration of oxygen. As the concentration of oxygen was increased, the faster the oxidation occurred throughout the entire fruit. The rate was also faster in samples treated with pure oxygen rather than pressurized air as seen in Figure 3. Temperature did not affect the rate of the debittering process in samples treated with pure oxygen but cut the time of the reaction in half in samples using air. It was found that fruits that underwent oxidation reaction under overpressured conditions showed a significant decrease in the compounds associated with olive bitterness such as hydroxytyrosol (bound) and oleuropein as highlighted by Table 1. To confirm this HPLC chromatograms (Figure 4) were used to show the decrease and/or absence of the bitterness compounds. In the chromatogram you can see a clear absence of both oleuropein and hydroxytyrosol in the treated juice and oil. This means the oxidation occurred and did in fact eliminate the target compounds. The oxidation reaction occurs at the two alcohol groups attached to the bound hydroxytyrosol group converting them to keto groups as shown in Figure 2. The simple ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

It is characterized by a progression of changes on cellular and genetic level that ultimately reprogram a cell to undergo uncontrolled cell division, thus forming a malignant mass. Carcinogenesis: Cancers consist of single clones or several clones of cells that are capable of partially (benign tumor) or fully (malignant cancer) independent growth in the host. • 45. Relationship Between Milk Market Participation In this chapter, we study the relationship between the milk market participation of smallholder households and women`s intra household bargaining power in Ethiopia. Our data show that household income is indeed substantially higher in milk market participating households (101 versus 49 birr daily). This higher income of participating households is almost completely earned by selling raw milk to the market. The other way of receiving milk income processing raw milk into butter and cottage cheese for sale at the local market is much less important in market participant households than in non participant households. This difference has important consequences for the distribution of income within the household. Milk income from the formal market is received and controlled by men (who sign the contract with the milk company), whereas income from the local market is received and controlled by women. The consequences for the intra household distribution of income are clearly reflected in our data. In milk market participant households, men`s milk income is on average 93 birr per day, whereas in non participant households men do not earn income from milk on a daily bases. Women tend to earn and control the entire dairy income in non participant households (34 birr per day), but earn only 4 birr milk income per day in market participant households. The central goal of the current study was to find out what the consequences of this change are for the bargaining position of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 46. Job Reflection Job a man whose name is synonymous with trials . No doubt about it, Job suffered unimaginable loss, heartache, and anguish. In the first chapter alone, we see him lose his property, his livelihood, and worse, all of his children. Just one of those losses alone would be a trial in of itself, but Job lost everything in a single day! After hearing the tragic news, we are told in Job 1:20 that he got to his feet indicating that the weight of his loss made this godly man crumble to his knees and ripped his robe and shaved his head (the mourning custom of his day). Then he fell to the ground and worshiped. When I read this, I notice two very interesting details: Job worshiped despite his grief Job worshiped during his grief Job, who just lost so much, was able to still worship God in defiance of his trial. Nor did he wait until the trial was over. It is easy to worship God in the light. But in the darkness, when we can t see and when fear and anxiety set in, worshiping God can sometimes be the furthest from our minds. Sure we pray and ask for deliverance from the trail, but do we worship Him during the trial? Because there is a difference. Simply stated, prayer is communication with our Lord; while worship is honoring and adoring Him. Prayer can sometimes be selfish because we are often asking for something, while worship is all about the Lord. So yes, it is possible to pray without worshiping Him. Job 1:20 makes a point to tell us that Job worshiped God. He ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 48. Cardiovascular Disease Prevention Program Cardiovascular Disease Prevention Program Cardiovascular is a class of disease that involve the heart or the blood vessels which includes veins, arteries, and capillaries, or both can affect the cardio system (Nordqvist, 2014).The CVD system convey oxygenated blood through the arteries for the entire body. Cardiovascular can cause other illness associated with the disease like coronary artery and heart disease, high blood pressure, diabetes, and strokes. How do these diseases affect the body? Coronary artery and heart disease happens when plaque builds up where damage occurs in the arteries due to smoking, high levels of fats and cholesterol in the blood, and inflammation in the blood vessels (National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute, 2012). High blood pressure (Hypertension) is cause when the heart has to work harder to execute blood for the body and it also hardens the arteries which later develops heart failure. Several conditions will cause HBP or hypertension like smoking, overweight, lack of physical activity, high sodium diet or alcohol consumption, stress and family history. Diabetes occurs when the body does not have adequacy to produce any or enough insulin (triglyceride) causes elevated levels of glucose in the blood ( what is diabetes Google Search ). • 49. The Impact Of Contemporary Uk On New Zealand Essay The increase in globalization has enabled a plethora of means in which organizations can access more talent and new technology that have become available. Due to this phenomenon, businesses have required to become more creative and embrace change as an essential method of staying competitive in their marketplace. The increase in ethnic group migration to New Zealand and the concept of managing this diverse range of culture and interacting with individuals with different cultures, belief systems is a current issue that impacts contemporary organisations in New Zealand. According to Sayers (2012), countries throughout history have different yet related ways to deal with inequality and discrimination issues that occur through diverse people existing in close proximity. From social movements focusing on womens rights, civil rights, anti slavery and indigenous rights, to modern diversity such as disability activism and managing diversity in the workplace, it is apparent that this issue of managing diversity is an ongoing encounter. Looking at the 2013 Census published by Statistics New Zealand (2013), we can see a substantial increase in ethnic groups in New Zealand since the 2006 Census. There is a 14% increase in European ethnicities, 6% increase in Maori, 11% increase in Pacific peoples, 33% increase in Asians, and 35% increase in Middle Eastern, Latin American, and African ethnicities since 2006.
