Pacific Ocean In Life Of Pi
Setting: The Pacific Ocean and Pi s Emotional State (5) The climax and majority of story in Life of Pi
takes place in the vast pacific ocean. The entire plot and conflict is created by the harsh environment.
At times the description of Pi s surroundings is reflective of his emotional and mental condition. At a
point in time where Pi is confused, scared, and vulnerable, unsure of whether or not he would make it,
his environment shows just that. Darkness came. There was no moon. Clouds hid the stars. The
contour of things became hard to distinguish. Everything disappeared, the sea, the lifeboat, my own
body. The sea was quiet and there was hardly any wind, so I couldn t even ground myself in sound. I
seemed to be floating in pure, abstract blackness...I couldn t imagine ... Show more content on

The inability to differentiate the surrounding features are representative of Pi s uncertainty of his
ability to survive, both figuratively and literally, as he can no longer make out the dangerous predators
he shares the boat with. The darkness and silence of the night parallels his newfound isolation. With
the loss of his entire family, the comparison between his emotions and immense emptiness of his
surroundings is quite apparent. This is not the only time where the ocean provides an insight to how Pi
is feeling and the state of his mind. In chapter 54 Pi spends hours coming up with, and switching
between plans, to eliminate Richard Parker. This constant distraction and fluctuating ideas is
paralleled in the way the rain and wind is reacting in the chapter. Shifts in the wind changed the
direction of the rain so that parts of me that were beginning to feel warm were soaked anew. I

When I first enrolled in Technology and Society, I honestly did not know what to think of this class. I
thought I was going to feel awkward because maybe it was going be a class full of nerds, which there
wasn t, and all we would talk about was different kinds of inventions and how they effected society.
After completing the course it was pretty much true, the class discussed many inventions and how
they have effected society throughout the years, even how society has effected technology. One of the
main topics that was covered in the class was how many different definitions there was of what was
considered technology. The biggest lesson that was taught was how technology and society have been
linked so closely throughout history, and now ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Everyone has seen that kid with music blasting out of his headphones, or the girl rapidly texting on her
phone. The youth of today are constantly drawn in technological advancements that promote nonstop
communication and instant satisfaction, whether through cell phones, video games, laptops, or
iPod/MP3 players. Before the invention of these devices, family members would sit together around
the table and play games together. However, since the invention of video games, those kinds of
entertainment have changed to games played individually, and the impact of such games on family
relations is apparent. Nowadays instead of watching TV together or eating a family meal, everyone in
the family is in a separate room, either playing video games, watching football, on their computers or
on their phones. Though, in some cases, technology helps parents to communicate with their children
and know their location, it is not always enough for children s safety just to stay connected with the
family. People are so fascinated by their smart phones or laptops that they are blind to others around
them. Consequently, spending less time with family and more time with different gadgets can cause
the loss of tight contacts with close relations.
But are these technological advancements a good thing? I believe that the growth of technology has
negatively influenced the social interactions of today s youth because it isolates people from reality,

Essay about The Alternative Energy Source to Oil
The Alternative Energy Source to Oil
Introduction
1.0 Renewable Energy is the term used to describe those energy flows that occur naturally and
repeatedly in the environment, e.g. from the sun, wind and the oceans, and from plants and the fall of
water. It also refers to the energy available from wastes and to the emerging clean technology of fuel
cells.
There are wide ranges of renewable energy sources/technologies, varying in technical and commercial
viability. These include:
Solar Power (Photovoltaic)
Hydro electric Power
Hydrogen Fuel Cells
Geothermal
Wind Power
Nuclear Power
1.1 The modern drive to harness renewable energy began in the 1970 s. It was promoted by ... Show

The exceptions are geothermal energy, and nuclear fission and fusion. Much of the world s required
energy can be supplied by solar power.
2.1 The first practical solar cell was developed at Bell Laboratories in 1954. With the advent of the
space program, Photovoltaic cells made from semi conductor grade silicon quickly became the power
source of choice for use on satellites. The systems were very reliable, and cost was of little concern. In
the early 1970s, the disruption of oil supplies to the industrialized world led to serious consideration of
Photovoltaic as a terrestrial power source. This application focused research attention on improving
performance, lowering costs and increasing reliability.
Due to the nature of solar energy, two components are required to have a functional solar energy
generator. These two components are a collector and a storage unit. The collector simply collects the
radiation that falls on it and converts a fraction of it to other forms of energy (either electricity and
heat or heat alone). The storage unit is required because of the non constant nature of solar energy; at
certain times only a very small amount of radiation will be received. The storage unit can hold the
excess energy produced during the periods of maximum productivity, and release it when the
productivity drops. In practice, a backup power supply is added, too,

Closed Campus Lunch
Out of school lunch VS.In school lunch
Should students be able to leave school to eat lunch? We should be able to leave school for lunch. It
gives us the freedom and responsibility of the young adults that we are right now. Also we have time
out of school in the day not just at school all day.
The students could use this time to go home or somewhere to eat food they want to eat and hang out
with there friends. Also when students are at school the day seem long with a break in there it make it
a little shorter. We sit in classrooms ALL day. No sunlight, no fresh air. Just the captivity of some grey
walls and a hallway cramped up constantly with other people. Taking a break from the school, the
odors, the captivity would be gradually appreciated. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Others against my view say otherwise, A large problem that is faced and feared by school
administrators and parents every day is student s ditching school. By allowing students a time to freely
leave campus, it may be difficult to ensure that they actually come back. Using a closed campus lunch
ensures that no one leaves class by monitoring the parking lots, with an open campus lunch you would
be unable to do this (Lombard). The school could make some rules that go along with the off campus
lunch, first if a student gets into trouble then they should not be allowed to leave the campus anymore
for lunch. They would have to stay at the school and eat there lunch there instead. They could only let
students with a certain GPA go off campus make it a reward for the ones who are doing good in school
go.
So they should make let students go off campus for lunch to get some time away from school in the
middle of the day to get their minds off of school for awhile if they have good grades. If they get in
trouble they won t be allowed to leave school for lunch

Corrupted Imperial Rome
Imperial Rome was an era that had drastic political benefits and deficits. There were a variety of
different dynasties that ruled during this period. All of the dynasties ruled after the assassination of
Julius Caesar. He was thought to be a conspirator of corruption, but his death was to promote
corruption. Among the leaders of Rome, corruption was widespread.
Augustus was one of many leaders that supported corruption. Julius Caesar was executed for
supporting corruption. Coincidentally, Julius Caesar s successors were more corrupted than he
supposedly was. The reason why Julius was killed was because Julius Caesar was for not doing his
actions in secrecy and deceit. After the assassination of Julius Caesar, there were civil wars ... Show

He gave signs of corruption, and these leaders often had harsh deaths. In the year 41 AD, Caligula was
assassinated by the Praetorian Guard. His successor, Claudius, proved to be an emperor by adding
Britain to the empire. During the years of 54 through 68 AD, Claudius died and Nero became emperor.
Nero is one of the main conspirators. One of the reasons was because Nero forced Seneca, who was a
philosopher that tutored Nero before becoming emperor, to commit suicide. He killed his mother, wife
and his tutors. Nero believed that he was an excellent musician and forced his citizens to attend his
concerts. Some of the cruelties were persecuting Christians by burning them alive at his garden
parties. A fire broke out in 64 AD, and was caused by Nero so that he could build a new palace called
Domus Aurea. Nero realized that there was a bounty on his head, so he fled Rome and killed himself
in 68 AD (Stevenson).
The unreasonable dictatorship of Nero caused Romans to no longer trust the Julio Claudian family.
His corruption ruined the reputation of his family and Rome. Corruption is so popular, but so disliked
by civilians. After Nero s flee, a fight over emperor began, and Vespasian was included. Vespasian
won the conflict and became emperor, so thus began the Flavian Dynasty. Vespasian died in 79 AD.
Titus, Vespasian s son, succeeded him and commanded to attack Jerusalem and destroy the ancient

The Philosophy Of Social Science
Hollis expresses his intention to explore the philosophy of social science of which he categorises into
four modes. He attempted to seek for the acceptable compromises between all and each mode to
define a better way of understanding the social world. Hollis clearly states that the key task of this
book is to reflect on the underlying philosophy of social science through the critical examination of
the theory and methodology in each approach. Some of the key questions are; whether the study of
social science can use the same method as in natural science, does structure determine an action or
does action determines structure in the process of social changes, and is there such a thing as the
universal strategy to help social scientists in understanding the way of the world. The main theme
focuses on Explanation and Understanding with the minor theme of Holism and Individualism. The
book initially gives the impression that each social study approach has its strength and weakness that
the combination of approaches would be beneficial and worth pursuing.
Hollis starts off with the introduction of Structure and Action. The comparative framework is set out
by the two social scientists who employ two different principles; Karl Marx and John Stuart Mills.
Determinism is then introduced to further illuminate the difference between these two theories. Hollis
also provides readers with the fundamental feature of Explanation and Understanding. The
comparison represented through the

What Is The Purpose Of Hush Movie
The example I chose for my analysis is the Netflix movie, Hush. The suspenseful movie presents a
women who is mute and deaf, Maddie. The setting takes place in the woods where she lives by herself
and has a few neighbors nearby. The thrill starts off with her neighbor getting murdered by a man who
is killing for amusement. Very easily, the killer can enter the house, however, he chooses prolonging
her fate by messing with Maddie. I chose this example because it presents a women with two physical
disabilities. In a life or death situation, her senses get the best of her, but it is unexpected on how she
keeps herself alive. Early in the movie Hush, Maddie lives a different life where she cannot speak nor
hear. Her best way of communication is the feeling of touch and sight. Some modifications include a

Because she is deaf and mute, she could still mentally depict her voice in her head. While reaching
deep within her conscious when she thought all hope was lost, she created multiple fantasies where
she could speak again. Unable to speak, hear, or talk, she was still able to form dreams, memories, and
visions. Her determination and focus caused her to mentally hear out her survival. This immense
concentration caused her to feel the killer right behind her as he made a mistake by breathing down
her neck. Maddie was able to dodge his attack and stab him on the leg leaving her some time to run.
As you would expect Maddie would be, she knocks out the killers senses one by one. She sprays
chemicals in his eyes affecting his vision and blares the smoke alarm at him by hindering his sound
which affects his balance. She gets him in the right moment for his fatal fate. The film is completely
quiet when this scene happens, but the visual effects show how loud the alarm really is and how

Biofuels And Alternative Sources Of Energy
Introduction Biofuels, derived from living organisms rather than petroleum laden rock, are the focus
of current energy research. The need for biofuels and alternative sources of energy will be necessary
as the earth s resources begin to diminish. In cohesion with this concern, the current uses of fossil
fuels are a concern as the environment pays an incredible toll for our overuse of this resource. Many
have attempted to replace petroleum fuel with the first generation biofuels would require diverting
farmland and crops for biofuel production, causing economic and ethical problems and competing
with world food supply (Zhang et. al., 2011). The production of these biofuels have a negative effect
on the environment, as a backdrop of rising crude oil prices, depletion of resources, and political
instability in producing countries, only biomass has the potential to replace the supply of an energy
hungry civilization (Antoni et. al., 2007). This is proof that it is crucial to begin to create biofuels that
have a lesser negative impact that can sustain the energy demands that we have today. Currently, as
seen in the table, microbes have been proven to produce ethanol, biodiesel and hydrogen, which are all
sources that can be used for producing renewable fuels. Due to their limited demands on the
environment they prove to be an excellent candidate for a successful biofuel.
Many of the biofuels produced from microbes are done so by varying organic pathways in order to

Ethical Dilemm Moral Dilemma
Ethical dilemma(s) One ethical dilemma Anthony has encountered is helping the family understand
where their loved one is currently standing. Communicating life threatening news takes courage and
certain factors need to be taken into consideration. In the textbook, The Last Dance it is stressed that
physicians must consider the patient s personality, emotional constitution, and capacity for continued
function under stress. Communication is essential and how and when the life threatening news is
conveyed is an essential part of this process. Furthermore, DeSpelder and Strickland (2009) say that
how the diagnosis is communicated can influence a patient attitude toward the illness, response to
treatment, ability to cope.
Views about dying, death, and afterlife:
We are all going to die. This is something unavoidable and is part of human nature. Anything that has
been born will have to encounter death also. Anthony feels that death is fearsome, and often times
people avoid having such discussion. The truth of the matter is that death is an integral part of our
lives; we are surrounded by death. The topic of death is represented in mass media, television shows,
cartoons, magazines and the internet. We hear songs about death, and we even sign to their tunes as if
we were singing a farewell to our loved ones. So what is there to be afraid of? The subject of death has
been embedded in our culture. Anthony believes that death is an existential, emotional and physical
need of

The three ways in which authority is expressed in the Ise Jingu Shinto shrine. One of the main ways
that authority is expressed at Ise Jingu is in its construction as it is not a permanent building but in fact

An Analysis of Neutral Tones by Thomas Hardy
We stood by a pond that winter day, (1) This line indicates a still quietness, with lack of the movement
of life. There is a vast difference in appearance and movement around a pond in winter and a pond in
the midst of summer. This indicates no leaves, and no visible signs of life. The poet is painting a stark
and lifeless scene.
And the sun was white, as though chidden of God, (2) This is indicative of the modernist approach to
light as being too harsh and not a positive factor. Chidden means scolded, rebuked, or even blamed.

This stanza ties in with the first stanza and lets the reader know it is the beautiful love between these
two people that is dying on this cold winter day.
The smile on your mouth was the deadest thing (9) is a very telling line. She is pretending to be kind
and to smile, but he sees through her and knows it is false. Her smile appears deader to him than the
fallen leaves do.
Alive enough to have strength to die; /And a grin of bitterness swept thereby (10 11). These lines show
that the poet realizes some life in her smile, but not what he wants to see. There is a difference
between a genuinely happy smile and a forced grin, and the latter is what he sees on her face.
Like an ominous bird a wing... (12) foretells her leaving him. He is seeing in her forced grin an omen
of bad luck. Many people see owls as an omen of death if they hoot outside their window for seven
nights in a row. It is in this sense that the poet speaks of her dead smile.
Since then, keen lessons that love deceives, (13). This line is a reflective line from the poet on his
feelings of her deceit toward him. He loved her and she broke his heart by lying to him.

Mid 1700 s Music Composers and the Operatic Reform Essay
Beginning in the mid 1700s composers started to resist the changes that occurred in opera. They began
to resist: the preferential treatment that the divas and castrati received, the excessive and replaceable
arias and the melodic phrasing, and the extreme vocal embellishments. Coming out of the opera seria
where the focus remained squarely on the divas, castrati, and where the da capo aria was the standard
form of the time Christoph Willibald Gluck was the leader of the Operatic Reform. While Christoph
Willibald Gluck and other composers of the time did not abandon the da capo aria entirely, they began
to modify it to more effectively to fit the telling of a story. With the reform, opera was returned to
expressing dramatic truth. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Also more formal structures became standard. One example of one of these formal structures is the
sonata form. The sonata form is one of the most common forms in classical a music. This form is
commonly used in the first movement of sonatas, string quartets, symphonies and even concerts. It has
three main sections which are the exposition, development, and the recapitulation. One composer who
used the sonata form exclusively was Domenico Scarlatti. Scarlatti was one of the most prominent
keyboard composers of his time. The clavier sonatas of Domenico Scarlatti form a separate and
distinct species, written mostly in one movement, in song form, and in homophonic style. An example
of this is in Scarlatti s Sonata in D Major. Scarlatti s sonatas represent a transitional type between the
older and the Viennese sonata
One of the most important composers of the early Symphony, Johann Stamitz standardized the four
movement plan of what would become the symphony. What Johann brought to the music that was
innovative was that he played with different instrument timbres like flutes, oboes, brass instruments,
and clarinet. Stamitz was the first composer to use it consistently: well over half his symphonies and
nine of his ten orchestral trios are in four movements. He also contributed to the development of
sonata form, most often used in symphonic first movements but occasionally in finales and even slow
movements as well.

passage is the rising action of the Ramayana. The heightened emotions, volleyed insults and
Laksmana s decision to leave Sita despite an ominous portent build suspense that culminates in Sita s
abduction. We can observe Sita s effective persuasion of Laksmana and consider the success of
women who use emotional blackmail, threats and insinuations of character flaws to manipulate men

Thereafter, she forces Dasaratha to commit the unrighteous act of banishing Rama from his rightful

Women Should Not Be A Mandatory Procedure For Chinese Women
Throughout history, women have tried many different ways to make themselves as beautiful as
possible to be accepted into their society. In the eleventh century, Foot Binding seemed to be a
mandatory procedure for Chinese Women. It was an excruciating process that women would go
through to please their husbands. Foot binding became popular as a means of a flaunting status
because women from wealthy families who did not need them to work could afford to have their feet
bound The practice became so established that a woman who did not have bound feet would have
difficulty finding a husband, for most families they demanded a woman with tiny feet when selecting
a wife for their son. The woman who refused to bind her feet was known to become an outcast and
even punished to death. There are a thousand buckets of tears for one who binds her feet and 5,000
more for the one who unbinds. ( ) Many young girls did it because it was a mark of beauty and
Chinese women with the smallest feet were given the best chance of living a luxurious life style. This
time in history was known to have lasted for at least one thousand years. Although, Foot Binding was
appreciated by Chinese men, but for women it didn t seem like something to look forward too. This
was an excruciating method of women folding all of her toes, except for the big toe, into the sole of

Morality Is Not The End All Be All
Morality is not the End All be All Morality is a set of principles that individuals use to distinguish
between right and wrong, good and bad actions. Being the code by which we live our lives, morality is
a concept that leaks into almost every aspect of human life. For example, even a mundane activity like
eating a sandwich for lunch can have moral implications. Consider this question, was the turkey that
ended up on the sandwich raised in horrific factory farm conditions and subjected to torturous
treatment? That is a question with heavy moral implications. Distinguishing right action from wrong is
a crucial skill for humans to have, but is morality the only thing that truly matters about a person.
Susan Wolf, an esteemed philosopher, thinks it is not. Wolf argues that morality is just one of many
aspects and values of a person. In other words, people are more than just moral beings and we should
be happy that this is the case. This paper will provide a brief look at Susan Wolf s argument as well as
my argument for why her contention is the correct one. First a brief summary of one of Wolf s most
notable pieces, Moral Saints . In Moral Saints , Wolf argues from example. She opens her piece by
asserting that she does not know if there are moral saints in the world, but she is happy that she has
not encountered any in her life. Wolf then goes on describing two different kinds of moral saints that
she believes can be conceptualized using common sense, the loving saint and

Social Deviance
The reproductions of babies are fundamental to life and the ongoing creation of human kind. Our
whole world must face all the great and the not so great that come with the bearing of a child. This
involves mothers having the option to care and nurture their child where ever and whenever they
please, such as breast feeding in public if it were to be an option. However, overtime societies view
and perspective on breast feeding has become more of a deviant act then it was many years ago. While
looking at the deviance of breast feeding in public overtime, it can be viewed in the lenses of social
norms that are divided into 2 groups: folkways and mores. Breast feeding can also fall under the

What Is Angelina Jolie Developmental Biography
DEVELOPMENTAL HISTORY Angelina Jolie Voight was born on June 4, 1975, in Los Angeles,
California, to actor Jon Voight and actress Marcheline Bertrand. Angelina had a troubled childhood,
the result of growing up with an estranged and famous father and a mother who, despite her laissez
faire parenting style, used her daughter as a vehicle through which to live out her own dreams of
stardom. For the first year or so of Jolie s life, she was kept in a white office five floors above her
mother s apartment and tended by a rotation of babysitters (her mother finding her too similar looking
to her just run off husband). There were days when her mother would not visit. Psychiatrists speculate
that Angelina s mother became unhinged after her husband was discovered to be cheating on her while
Angelina was just a babe in arms. Growing up, she didn t like being hugged. During an interview with

Mick Jagger was smitten, and, still married to Jerry Hall and with a fourth kid on the way, pursued her
doggedly. He left long, pleading, and, tortured by her unresponsiveness, increasingly self abasing
messages on her answering machine. Only it turns out that Angelina had given Jagger her mother s
number, who played the messages for her friends. Here was Mick Jagger virtually sobbing down the
phone (Morton, 133). Meanwhile, Angelina s mother was encouraging her daughter to formalize her
divorce from her first husband, Jonny Lee Miller of Trainspotting, and consulting astrologers on the
likelihood of her marrying Jagger. Finally, just as Jolie s relationship with Billy Bob Thornton was
beginning, Jagger succeeded in publicly making out with Jolie at Toronto s Sky dome during a Stones

The Use Of Vivid Color In The Wizard Of Oz
As Dorothy enters deeper into the world of Oz, we see the vibrant color of green in the trees and the
shades of yellow and blue in the flowers (Fig. 3). One remarkable aspect of the Wizard of Oz has to be
Dorothy s red, sparkly shoes, the famous ruby slippers. They were originally scripted as being silver
but half way through the production they decided to change it to red to take full advantage of the
capabilities of Technicolor. Another reason why they were changed to ruby red was so they can stand
out against the brimstone yellow brick road. The yellow brick road and the Emerald City were further
illustrations of the capabilities of
Technicolor. Such vivid colors weren t just for artistic appeal, they often represented other aspects

Technically a great achievement, MGM studios spared no expense on the production. It was filmed in

Technicolor Corporation required production companies to rent their equipment. Having already

The Coastal Plains Of Texas
The Coastal Plains of Texas is a large area that extends from the Atlantic Ocean to beyond the Rio
Grande. This region can be divided into 5 distinct areas.
PINE BELT:
It extends 75 to 125 miles into Texas from the east and from north to south from the Red River to
about 25 miles of the Gulf Coast. The Pine Belt is practically the source of all Texas timber
production. Lumber is the principle industry. The climate is good for a variety of fruits and vegetables.
A great oil field discovered in 1931 contributed to the economic growth of the area.
BLACKLAND BELT:
This area stretches from the Rio Grande to the Red River. This area runs through the DFW
metropolitan area. This area is also the most populated with the strongest diversified manufacturing
industry of the state.
COASTAL PRAIRIES:

Whale Hunting In Makah Culture
The debate in this article can be really boiled down to people s view of animal rights and cultural
rights (Van Grinkel, 2004). For fifteen hundred years the Makah having been conducting whale hunts
with it being one of the main aspects of their culture. In 1855 a treaty was signed in which they
forfeited thousands of acres of their land to the federal government in exchange for the ability to
continue their whale hunts. However, in the 1920s traditional whale hunting by the Makah stopped for
a variety of reasons. In 1937 grey whaling was official out lawed. Fast forward to 1995 when the
Makah culture wanted to resume the traditional whale hunting. After some intense legal battles with
the government they were allowed too. In 1999 after some extremely fierce protesting they finally

from the whale hunt for the culture were good some negative ones arose from the public. The public
believed that this hunt was immoral and barbaric because they wanted to protect the whale. The hunt
was almost complete based on traditional practices except for a rifle they used to instantly kill the
whale after it has been caught. The protestors were angry about that but they didn t consider how
much more humane it was to kill the whale like that. While orginally it was under guise of protecting

Fissile Material Cut off Treaty (FMCT) conducive to the prohibition of fissile material for nuclear

Proliferation Security Initiative (PSI) in 2003. Subsequently to the events of 2006 and 2009 that led to

Persuasive Essay On Becoming A Dentist
Someone coming at you, with white latex gloves on, the tool with a hook that twinkles with deceit in
hand, and as you re dazed from the anesthetics they gave you, they ask you to smile and then ask you
to open wide to claw at your teeth and gums. That is what I want to be doing as my job for the rest of
my life, scaring kids as a dentist. That s what people see them for, but what really makes a dentist?
Lots of schooling, is one for sure, but you also must have simple skills that some may be born with or
others have to learn. Explaining these things and learning about these things are crucial to my
education to becoming a dentist. As a dentist, you can obtain an office full of terrified kids and adults
who have the privilege to see me! It s actually them being scared of the tools that I have that goes in
their mouths, but same thing right? In addition to having kids being terrified of you and your tools,
there are its perks. One of the perks for a dentist is that they are one of the highest paying in the
healthcare department, more than a registered nurse and medical assistant combined, raking in an
average of $172,350 each year, making $14,362.50 a month. Moreover, dentists will have a growth of
18% from 2014 2024, faster than the average for all occupations. ( Summary. U.S. Bureau of Labor
Statistics, U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, 17 Dec. 2015,
www.bls.gov/ooh/healthcare/dentists.htm#tab 4.) It may not seem like it, but dentists have a great deal
of responsibilities when it comes to taking care of their patients. Being a dentist, you are there to help
people become more informed on how to properly take care of their teeth and what they must do to
achieve that beautiful smile! Dentists are also there to fill any cavities you may have or extract any
decay that may be upon your teeth. Those dentures that you found beside your grandpa s sink?
Dentists also make those, as well as fix and save any teeth that may be cracked. They also remove
teeth that may have rotted out.
When I first started thinking of what I wanted to become, I simply thought that I love seeing terrified
people I mean, the smiles from everyone that walks in and out of the office that I d have! In all
honesty, I picked this career

Physical Effects Of Chromotherapy
Ancient cultures, such as the Egyptians and the Chinese, practiced chromotherapy and are still used
today. Chromotherapy is also called light therapy or colorology and uses colors to heal people (Cherry,
2016). For example, the color red was used to stimulate an individual s body and mind by increasing
circulation, while yellow was used to stimulate the person s nerves and purifying the body. Other
colors that were used as treatments were blue, which was believed to soothe illnesses and treat pain,
and orange, which was said to heal the lungs and increase energy (Parker). Research has shown that
color only has temporary effects on an individual s mood and dissipates after a short period of time
(Cherry, 2016). Since color only has temporary effects, chromotherapy is not suitable for certain

Ordinary People Reflection
In the book, Ordinary People, by Judith Guest, Conrad Jarrett undergoes different stages in life that
occur after his incident. Throughout these phases he sees a change in himself as a whole. The most
pivotal moment in his psychological and moral development transpires when Dr. Berger comes into
Conrad s life. Dr. Berger becomes his guiding principle that eventually leads him to progress in areas
he struggles in such as forgiveness, happiness, and acceptance. Through these developments Conrad is
able to remain to who he once was but continue to live on with life.
As a result of his visitations with Dr. Berger, Conrad learns to seek for forgiveness not only in his
family but especially in himself. Essentially, in his life he struggles to understand the concept of a
guiding principle, A belief of some kind. A bumper sticker, if you will (pg. 1). A guiding principle in
Conrad s life that really helped him to forgive others was Dr. Berger, he consistently pushes Conrad to
look at things from different perspectives and to release all the anger and guilt he feels inside. Notably,
Berger was there the night Conrad needed help, I need to see you, he whispers (pg. 219), in a moment
of disparity, Berger evaluates Conrad and concludes that he still feels at fault for practically everything
that happened in his life. At his lowest moments, any time that Conrad spends with Berger he begins

How Did Catholics Pose A Significant Threat In England
There is much historical debate as to whether Catholics posed a significant threat in England. Duffy
has found through the study of wills that Catholic views were still seen in a large section of the
population. However, Doran suggests that long and relentless government persecutions forced many
Catholics from their faith. This would indicate that there is uncertainty as to the Catholic threat
domestically and Murphy would certainly argue that due to the increasingly hostile situation in Europe
that the bigger Catholic threat came from abroad. When the Elizabethan Church Settlement was
created Elizabeth attempted to return religious policy to the way it had been at the end of Henry VIII s
reign; there is also an indication the settlement was driven by a need for political expediency.
Elizabeth herself is seen by historians such as C Haigh as a sincere and committed protestant due to
her upbringing; however, she recognised that a large population of England was still Catholic ... Show

Also, many Catholics saw Elizabeth as the rightful Queen and many of these plots were regarded with

Throughout the film Bloom does everything to get the next shot to later show his colleagues. The
audience can sense how desperate he is to get these gruesome videos. Viewers can look at the way
Bloom reacts to how he missed an opportunity to get a video and see how he is truly consumed in his
work. When he misses his opportunity for a film he screams and breaks the mirror. He truly expresses
how he feels broken and how he let himself down. By letting himself down in a way, he lets God
down because he did not please himself, (because he did not get the shot.) Bloom could be considered
a contemporary Odysseus because he deceived the police to get a video from the news, but, by getting
this video he unmasks the murders of the previous three person murder. This event could be compared
to how Odysseus deceived the enemy by making a trojan horse. In this way deception, plays a role to
make both Odysseus and Bloom similar. Nightcrawler could be classified as a story of a 21st heroic

Analysis Of St. Joseph Hall
At Fontbonne University, the freshman dorm is called St. Joseph hall. For three different days and
times, I observed the commons area of St. Joseph hall, which is located on the first floor. When you
first walk into St. Joseph hall, you notice that there are two sides with a walkway down the middle. On
one side there are two flat screen TV s surrounded by sofas with a table in the middle. This area is
carpeted with a blue, green, and purple pattern. It is worn down and thin. On the other side of the Jo
commons, there are four computers and a printer. There are also sofas and chairs on this side. There is
florescent lighting throughout, but most of the time it is unneeded because the walls are giant
windows. There are lots of scuff marks on the white wall paint (a lot of fixing up needed in this area).
The back wall reads Welcome to Griffin Nation so as one walks in they can see it.
I noticed that security played a large role in the layout as well. Starting at ten P.M., the school security
guards walk through the commons and each floor of the dorm to make sure that people are safe and
making good choices. As I sat in the commons at three in the morning taking notes on my laptop, one
guard pointed out my studiousness and asked if I would be pulling an all nighter. It was a nice gesture,

Rational Choice Theory Of Crime
Generally speaking, there is a strong need for theory when shaping criminal justice policies and
practices. As mentioned in this week s materials theories can assist with developing explanations
and/or ideas about criminal activity, such as, the factors that caused the offender to commit the crime,
how to prevent the offender and others from committing more crime, or the most effective
punishments. Without the presence of theories all policies and practices put into place would lack
verification of effectiveness and need (Blokar, 2015). In our readings, various theories on the
effectiveness of punishment were either verified or unsupported at some point in time over the past
three centuries. From my understanding of the reading Beccaria s belief that certainty is the most
important piece of punishment, even when compared to severity , (Cullen, Agnew, Wilcox, 2014)

Hamilton Vs Thomas Jefferson Essay
Jefferson and Madison were two of the Founding Fathers of America. Thomas Jefferson wrote the
Declaration of Independence, and James Madison wrote many important parts of the Constitution;
these two people helped contribute to what America is today. The Constitution established America s
government, laws, and guaranteed citizens basic rights. One of the most debated issues over the
Constitution is how strictly or loosely the Constitution should be `interpreted. Although Thomas
Jefferson and James Madison were strict constructionists, this characterization changed during their
presidencies, because the circumstances necessitated a shift. Jefferson and Hamilton feuded over
whether the Bank was constitutional or not. Jefferson believed since the bank was not written or
enumerated, in the Constitution it was forbidden. Hamilton argued that the bank was constitutional
because the Constitution s implied powers did not forbid the creation of the bank therefore it was
permitted. Hamilton created the Elastic Clause of Congress that stated Congress has the power to do
whatever is necessary and proper to carry out its appointed duties, consequently leading to the ...

blues pianist and she wanted him to learn the piano also. But his father, Miles Davis Jr gave a trumpet.
His father arranged it so that a local musician name Elwood Buchanan would give him some lessons.

The Development Of Children s Education
5 7 years:
This age group of children will have to go through a transition from nursery to school; reception year,
(where practitioners still follow EYFS) and then children move on to key stage one, (where teachers
follow the National Curriculum Key Stage 1). Children s education is still based on play, however
now children have a lot more of adult led activities in which they learn to concentrate for longer
periods of time. The environment in schools that surrounds children is more complex because the
children get to learn more, therefore some displays might contain bigger amount of more complex
mathematical language than we can find in a nursery setting. As children go into key stage 1, it isn t
the only environmental look that changes, the equipment is also more complex and advanced because
it is aimed for children that are now at a higher stage of mathematical development. As I discussed
earlier Early Years Foundation Stage changes and becomes the National Curriculum Key Stage 1; the
system changes a little bit and instead of carpet time that children used to have in the nursery becomes
a lesson . Some children in reception might still work on their emergent mathematics. However, as
they move up to Key Stage 1, children begin to learn a lot more complex mathematics and it is not
longer emergent because they have passed this stage which should be fully achieved by now...
Children who did not go to the nursery might find it harder to learn in school and achieve their

How Technology Changed Allowing More People Essay
The year was 1790 when outside vendors copied and sold maps and publications without consent of
the original owners. The government set a law into place to put a copyright, the exclusive right to
make copies, license, and otherwise exploit a literary, musical, or artistic work, whether printed, audio,
video, etc (1) , on items and ideas of their choosing preventing such from being stolen or transformed
for 14 years. Within fifty years, technology changed allowing more people understood what a
copyright was and therefore a new law extended the length of the copyright from 14 to 28 years, a
solid length of time for ones work to be properly appreciated by the public. It took roughly seventy
years before the law changed again, this time including a 28 year renewal plan, allowing the original
copyright owners to keep their licensed work from the hands of the public domain for a total of 56
years. Almost he entire lifetime of a person from the early 1900 s could be contained within the length
of a single copyright. It would be another 67 years before the law was changed yet again. Not only did
the law change to keep ones copyright protected for 70 years, but and additonal 50 years after the
owners death could be tacked onto the lifeline of their copywritten piece of work. (2) 120 years of
songs, films, prose and plays prevented from being altered or changed only to be extended again in
1998 to a grand total of 140 years. Works of all kinds left to be unaltered for almost two

Immigraton in the U.S. Essay
Immigration in the U.S.
While immigration has played an important role in the building
and formation of America, new federal laws have resulted in mass
immigration. America was primarily founded on immigrants,
however, immigration must be controlled legally, and immigrants
should be treated equally despite what country they come from.
America has the most liberal laws towards immigrants than any other
country. Luis Barker, Chief Patrol Agent In Charge, US Border Patrol,
El Paso, TX. Throughout history, Congress has enacted laws and has
had to amend them to control the flow of both legal and illegal
migration to the United States.
In 1948, legislation was first enacted in an effort to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

illegal aliens mostly from Mexico were given legal immigrant status.
These new laws opened the door to the longest and largest wave of
immigration ever 27 million since 1965, including illegal entries.
The visa waiver pilot program (VWPP) is designed to extend
reciprocity to the countries that permit US citizens to visit their
countries without the need of a tourist visa. To date a total of
twenty nine countries are signatory to the treaty. In order to qualify,
countries must have a low rate of non immigrant overstays to the US,
and must have state of the art machine readable passports.
2
Prior to the enactment of IRCA, marriage fraud between
non citizens and US citizens was rampant and out of control.
Measures were put in place to reduce this by requiring couples to
submit proof to INS. This proof must show that the couple has been
living together and submitted ninety days prior to the second
anniversary. If the couple fails to establish that the marriage is valid,
the non citizen will not become a lawful permanent resident and will
be faced with and order of deportation. The only exception, is that
the non citizen cannot be the subject of spousal abuse and be
expected to remain in the marriage for

Theme Of Motherhood In The Secret Life Of Bees
The Secret Life of Bees: Analysing the Importance of Motherhood
The greatest potential influence and need in a child s life is a mother, someone who will put their
happiness and needs after their child s. The major theme in Sue Monk Kidd s, The Secret Life of Bee
s, is the importance of motherhood in a child s life, displayed through Lily s constant search for a
mother figure. Lily starts off looking to Rosaleen as a guide in her life, she then finds a mother figure
in the Black Mary after learning about her story, and in the end, accepts August and the other sisters of
Mary as her surrogate mothers. In the Secret Life of Bees, Sue Monk Kidd excellently displays the
theme of motherhood and its necessity. Lily s mother, Deborah, had died ... Show more content on

For example, only a few weeks after staying in the pink house, August asks Lily what she loves, Lily
responds, And since coming here, I ve learned to love bee s and honey. I wanted to add, And I love
you, I love you, but I felt too awkward, (Kidd, 140). Lily tells August about the many things that she
loves, she even wants to communicate her deep admiration for August but is unable to. August is like
a mother figure to Lily also because she cares a lot about her and provides Lily with a kind of support
and love that no one has ever expressed to her. For example, when Lily finally tells August about how
she killed her mother and expresses how she feels unlovable, August consoles her and ensures her that
she is admirable. That s a terrible, terrible thing for you to live with. But you re not unlovable. Even if
you did accidentally kill her, you are still the most dear, most lovable girl I know, (Kidd, 242).
Throughout her entire life, T. Ray never cared enough to emotionally support Lily, and Rosaleen s
personality was too snarky for her to understand Lily s position. Lily finally has someone to talk to
and releases all her pent up guilt, regret, and pain to August. August and the sisters of Mary also
provide Lily with a sense of motherly instinct and protection. For example, when T. Ray tries to come
and take Lily back to the peach farm, they all stand up for her and protect her from her

Jack London s The Story Of An Eyewitness
Jack London s The Story of an Eyewitness is a first person account of the San Francisco Earthquake
of 1906 and the destruction caused by the fires that large earthquake. The National Archives article
reports the same event is a third person account and differs from London s account in several ways.
London s eyewitness article provides information, uses real pictures, and uses literary techniques like
imdrege to tell the story of the San Francisco Earthquake of 1906 and the complete destruction of the
city in the raging fires that followed
What did the earthquake do to the city. The earthquake shook down in San Francisco hundreds and
thousand worth of buildings. In Jack London s words he says Not in history has as a modern imperial

All night these tens of thousands fled before the flames. Many of them, the poor people from the labor
ghetto, had fled all day as well. They had left their homes burdened with possessions. Now and again
they lightened up, flinging out upon the street clothing and treasures they had dragged for miles.
What was happening to the city during this massacre. At nine o clock Jack London was walking in the
city. He said that every building had its watchman at the door. And yet it was doomed, all of it. There
was no water. The dynamite was giving out and at right angles two different conflagrations were
sweeping down upon it. Then he went back one o clock in the morning and said That there was no fire
but still nothing has changed. There is still a rain of ash in the sky .
Did this deathly earthquake end for the people and or the city. This was a devastation to everyone, no
one expected it which you can t with things like this. It ripped people from their homes and the only
things they have every loved. It took a long time for people to get back to the way it was. Like it said
in the text All the surrounding cities and towns are jammed with the homeless ones, where they are
being cared for by the relief committees. The refugees were carried free by the railroads to any point
they wished to go, and it is estimated that over one hundred thousand people had left the peninsula on

Teutonic Knights Chapter Summary
The journal article written by William Urban provided a different perspective in role played by the
Teutonic Knights during the crusades. Within historical analysis, the Teutonic Knights are often
reputed as being brutal during their participation in the holy wars. However, Urban s article does not
dwell on the brutality of the Knights. Urban presents the knights as policeman who were called to
Livonia to save the crusader state from internal collapse caused by political infighting among the
Germans, Danes, and Slavs. Once the Knights gained control of the political instability, they began a
process of establishing a defensive perimeter along the southern frontier. Urban wrote that Christian
Russians protected the eastern frontier of Livonia ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There was to be no displays of chivalry as seen in the west. The Master of the Teutonic Knights was
the supreme commander, who answered to the Grandmaster in Germany who had complete authority
in Livonia. The Masters worked in conjunction with a council or commanders, which was a
collaboration of men made up from regionalized Bishops, citizens of Riga, and the governors of
Estonia and Demark, and native militiamen known as advocates. Because the masters were often far
away, the commander and advocates were in charge of the territories. However, the priests and native
elders managed local government issues. There were strict punishments handed down for those who
broke the chain of command, and according to Urban, the Archbishop of Riga desired to be the most
powerful man in the region, and while a trouble maker he was not a dangerous

Powerful Women In The Odyssey
Power is a curious concept that most people have or understand. When women experience power and
strength it is incredible and unique. In The Odyssey by Homer, there are a lot of powerful, strong
women. Women in this poem are tough, strong willed and are treated with the respect and seriousness
they deserve. (Bartleby 1). In this quote, it is talking about how women were treated well, but in
reality women were treated like wasted space. As Homer writes about women, they seemed to be
smarter than the men. The women know what to do, how to do it, and most importantly listen to what
other people say. When Hermes tells Calypso to let Odysseus go, she obeyed. She knew if she would
have ignored the gods, there would have been consequences. The men in this book aren t very good
listeners. When, Odysseus told his men not to eat the sun cattle, they didn t listen and they payed for it
with their lives. This is one of the many reasons Homer seems like a feminist. ... Show more content

Penelope has more power than she thinks and it s not just her wit. She has power over her husband
even when they re not together. He loves her so much, which makes her able to have power over him.
Penelope is also very smart. She knows how to trick the suitors. She would weave Laertes shroud all
throughout the day and then at night she would unravel all the work she did. She kept this charade up
for three years, until a servant told the suitors what was going on. The point of her doing this was to
give Odysseus more time to come home, but she knows she can only hold them off for so long. Homer

  • 2. Pacific Ocean In Life Of Pi Setting: The Pacific Ocean and Pi s Emotional State (5) The climax and majority of story in Life of Pi takes place in the vast pacific ocean. The entire plot and conflict is created by the harsh environment. At times the description of Pi s surroundings is reflective of his emotional and mental condition. At a point in time where Pi is confused, scared, and vulnerable, unsure of whether or not he would make it, his environment shows just that. Darkness came. There was no moon. Clouds hid the stars. The contour of things became hard to distinguish. Everything disappeared, the sea, the lifeboat, my own body. The sea was quiet and there was hardly any wind, so I couldn t even ground myself in sound. I seemed to be floating in pure, abstract blackness...I couldn t imagine ... The inability to differentiate the surrounding features are representative of Pi s uncertainty of his ability to survive, both figuratively and literally, as he can no longer make out the dangerous predators he shares the boat with. The darkness and silence of the night parallels his newfound isolation. With the loss of his entire family, the comparison between his emotions and immense emptiness of his surroundings is quite apparent. This is not the only time where the ocean provides an insight to how Pi is feeling and the state of his mind. In chapter 54 Pi spends hours coming up with, and switching between plans, to eliminate Richard Parker. This constant distraction and fluctuating ideas is paralleled in the way the rain and wind is reacting in the chapter. Shifts in the wind changed the direction of the rain so that parts of me that were beginning to feel warm were soaked anew. I ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

I thought I was going to feel awkward because maybe it was going be a class full of nerds, which there wasn t, and all we would talk about was different kinds of inventions and how they effected society. After completing the course it was pretty much true, the class discussed many inventions and how they have effected society throughout the years, even how society has effected technology. One of the main topics that was covered in the class was how many different definitions there was of what was considered technology. The biggest lesson that was taught was how technology and society have been linked so closely throughout history, and now ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Everyone has seen that kid with music blasting out of his headphones, or the girl rapidly texting on her phone. The youth of today are constantly drawn in technological advancements that promote nonstop communication and instant satisfaction, whether through cell phones, video games, laptops, or iPod/MP3 players. Before the invention of these devices, family members would sit together around the table and play games together. However, since the invention of video games, those kinds of entertainment have changed to games played individually, and the impact of such games on family relations is apparent. Nowadays instead of watching TV together or eating a family meal, everyone in the family is in a separate room, either playing video games, watching football, on their computers or on their phones. Though, in some cases, technology helps parents to communicate with their children and know their location, it is not always enough for children s safety just to stay connected with the family. People are so fascinated by their smart phones or laptops that they are blind to others around them. Consequently, spending less time with family and more time with different gadgets can cause the loss of tight contacts with close relations. But are these technological advancements a good thing? I believe that the growth of technology has negatively influenced the social interactions of today s youth because it isolates people from reality, gets in the way of ... • 5. Essay about The Alternative Energy Source to Oil The Alternative Energy Source to Oil Introduction 1.0 Renewable Energy is the term used to describe those energy flows that occur naturally and repeatedly in the environment, e.g. from the sun, wind and the oceans, and from plants and the fall of water. It also refers to the energy available from wastes and to the emerging clean technology of fuel cells. There are wide ranges of renewable energy sources/technologies, varying in technical and commercial viability. These include: Solar Power (Photovoltaic) Hydro electric Power Hydrogen Fuel Cells Geothermal Wind Power Nuclear Power 1.1 The modern drive to harness renewable energy began in the 1970 s. It was promoted by ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The exceptions are geothermal energy, and nuclear fission and fusion. Much of the world s required energy can be supplied by solar power. 2.1 The first practical solar cell was developed at Bell Laboratories in 1954. With the advent of the space program, Photovoltaic cells made from semi conductor grade silicon quickly became the power source of choice for use on satellites. The systems were very reliable, and cost was of little concern. In the early 1970s, the disruption of oil supplies to the industrialized world led to serious consideration of Photovoltaic as a terrestrial power source. This application focused research attention on improving performance, lowering costs and increasing reliability. Due to the nature of solar energy, two components are required to have a functional solar energy generator. These two components are a collector and a storage unit. The collector simply collects the radiation that falls on it and converts a fraction of it to other forms of energy (either electricity and heat or heat alone). The storage unit is required because of the non constant nature of solar energy; at certain times only a very small amount of radiation will be received. The storage unit can hold the excess energy produced during the periods of maximum productivity, and release it when the productivity drops. In practice, a backup power supply is added, too,

It gives us the freedom and responsibility of the young adults that we are right now. Also we have time out of school in the day not just at school all day. The students could use this time to go home or somewhere to eat food they want to eat and hang out with there friends. Also when students are at school the day seem long with a break in there it make it a little shorter. We sit in classrooms ALL day. No sunlight, no fresh air. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Others against my view say otherwise, A large problem that is faced and feared by school administrators and parents every day is student s ditching school. By allowing students a time to freely leave campus, it may be difficult to ensure that they actually come back. Using a closed campus lunch ensures that no one leaves class by monitoring the parking lots, with an open campus lunch you would be unable to do this (Lombard). The school could make some rules that go along with the off campus lunch, first if a student gets into trouble then they should not be allowed to leave the campus anymore for lunch. They would have to stay at the school and eat there lunch there instead. They could only let students with a certain GPA go off campus make it a reward for the ones who are doing good in school go. All of the dynasties ruled after the assassination of Julius Caesar. He was thought to be a conspirator of corruption, but his death was to promote corruption. Among the leaders of Rome, corruption was widespread. Augustus was one of many leaders that supported corruption. Julius Caesar was executed for supporting corruption. In the year 41 AD, Caligula was assassinated by the Praetorian Guard. His successor, Claudius, proved to be an emperor by adding Britain to the empire. During the years of 54 through 68 AD, Claudius died and Nero became emperor. Nero is one of the main conspirators. One of the reasons was because Nero forced Seneca, who was a philosopher that tutored Nero before becoming emperor, to commit suicide. He killed his mother, wife and his tutors. Nero believed that he was an excellent musician and forced his citizens to attend his concerts. Some of the cruelties were persecuting Christians by burning them alive at his garden parties. A fire broke out in 64 AD, and was caused by Nero so that he could build a new palace called Domus Aurea. Nero realized that there was a bounty on his head, so he fled Rome and killed himself in 68 AD (Stevenson). The unreasonable dictatorship of Nero caused Romans to no longer trust the Julio Claudian family. His corruption ruined the reputation of his family and Rome. Corruption is so popular, but so disliked by civilians. After Nero s flee, a fight over emperor began, and Vespasian was included. Vespasian won the conflict and became emperor, so thus began the Flavian Dynasty. Vespasian died in 79 AD. • 9. The Philosophy Of Social Science Hollis expresses his intention to explore the philosophy of social science of which he categorises into four modes. He attempted to seek for the acceptable compromises between all and each mode to define a better way of understanding the social world. Hollis clearly states that the key task of this book is to reflect on the underlying philosophy of social science through the critical examination of the theory and methodology in each approach. Some of the key questions are; whether the study of social science can use the same method as in natural science, does structure determine an action or does action determines structure in the process of social changes, and is there such a thing as the universal strategy to help social scientists in understanding the way of the world. The main theme focuses on Explanation and Understanding with the minor theme of Holism and Individualism. The book initially gives the impression that each social study approach has its strength and weakness that the combination of approaches would be beneficial and worth pursuing. Hollis starts off with the introduction of Structure and Action. The comparative framework is set out by the two social scientists who employ two different principles; Karl Marx and John Stuart Mills. Determinism is then introduced to further illuminate the difference between these two theories. Hollis also provides readers with the fundamental feature of Explanation and Understanding. The setting takes place in the woods where she lives by herself and has a few neighbors nearby. The thrill starts off with her neighbor getting murdered by a man who is killing for amusement. Very easily, the killer can enter the house, however, he chooses prolonging her fate by messing with Maddie. I chose this example because it presents a women with two physical disabilities. In a life or death situation, her senses get the best of her, but it is unexpected on how she keeps herself alive. • 11. Biofuels And Alternative Sources Of Energy Introduction Biofuels, derived from living organisms rather than petroleum laden rock, are the focus of current energy research. The need for biofuels and alternative sources of energy will be necessary as the earth s resources begin to diminish. In cohesion with this concern, the current uses of fossil fuels are a concern as the environment pays an incredible toll for our overuse of this resource. Many have attempted to replace petroleum fuel with the first generation biofuels would require diverting farmland and crops for biofuel production, causing economic and ethical problems and competing with world food supply (Zhang et. al., 2011). The production of these biofuels have a negative effect on the environment, as a backdrop of rising crude oil prices, depletion of resources, and political instability in producing countries, only biomass has the potential to replace the supply of an energy hungry civilization (Antoni et. al., 2007). This is proof that it is crucial to begin to create biofuels that have a lesser negative impact that can sustain the energy demands that we have today. Currently, as seen in the table, microbes have been proven to produce ethanol, biodiesel and hydrogen, which are all sources that can be used for producing renewable fuels. Due to their limited demands on the environment they prove to be an excellent candidate for a successful biofuel. Many of the biofuels produced from microbes are done so by varying organic pathways in order to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 12. Ethical Dilemm Moral Dilemma Ethical dilemma(s) One ethical dilemma Anthony has encountered is helping the family understand where their loved one is currently standing. Communicating life threatening news takes courage and certain factors need to be taken into consideration. In the textbook, The Last Dance it is stressed that physicians must consider the patient s personality, emotional constitution, and capacity for continued function under stress. Communication is essential and how and when the life threatening news is conveyed is an essential part of this process. Furthermore, DeSpelder and Strickland (2009) say that how the diagnosis is communicated can influence a patient attitude toward the illness, response to treatment, ability to cope. Views about dying, death, and afterlife: We are all going to die. This is something unavoidable and is part of human nature. Anything that has been born will have to encounter death also. Anthony feels that death is fearsome, and often times people avoid having such discussion. The truth of the matter is that death is an integral part of our lives; we are surrounded by death. The topic of death is represented in mass media, television shows, cartoons, magazines and the internet. We hear songs about death, and we even sign to their tunes as if we were singing a farewell to our loved ones. So what is there to be afraid of? The subject of death has been embedded in our culture. An Analysis of Neutral Tones by Thomas Hardy Essay An Analysis of Neutral Tones by Thomas Hardy We stood by a pond that winter day, (1) This line indicates a still quietness, with lack of the movement of life. There is a vast difference in appearance and movement around a pond in winter and a pond in the midst of summer. This indicates no leaves, and no visible signs of life. The poet is painting a stark and lifeless scene. And the sun was white, as though chidden of God, (2) This is indicative of the modernist approach to light as being too harsh and not a positive factor. Her smile appears deader to him than the fallen leaves do. Alive enough to have strength to die; /And a grin of bitterness swept thereby (10 11). There is a difference between a genuinely happy smile and a forced grin, and the latter is what he sees on her face. Like an ominous bird a wing... (12) foretells her leaving him. He is seeing in her forced grin an omen of bad luck. Many people see owls as an omen of death if they hoot outside their window for seven nights in a row. They began to resist: the preferential treatment that the divas and castrati received, the excessive and replaceable arias and the melodic phrasing, and the extreme vocal embellishments. Coming out of the opera seria where the focus remained squarely on the divas, castrati, and where the da capo aria was the standard form of the time Christoph Willibald Gluck was the leader of the Operatic Reform. One example of one of these formal structures is the sonata form. The sonata form is one of the most common forms in classical a music. This form is commonly used in the first movement of sonatas, string quartets, symphonies and even concerts. It has three main sections which are the exposition, development, and the recapitulation. One composer who used the sonata form exclusively was Domenico Scarlatti. Scarlatti was one of the most prominent keyboard composers of his time. The clavier sonatas of Domenico Scarlatti form a separate and distinct species, written mostly in one movement, in song form, and in homophonic style. An example of this is in Scarlatti s Sonata in D Major. Scarlatti s sonatas represent a transitional type between the older and the Viennese sonata One of the most important composers of the early Symphony, Johann Stamitz standardized the four movement plan of what would become the symphony. What Johann brought to the music that was innovative was that he played with different instrument timbres like flutes, oboes, brass instruments, and clarinet. Stamitz was the first composer to use it consistently: well over half his symphonies and nine of his ten orchestral trios are in four movements. He also contributed to the development of sonata form, most often used in symphonic first movements but occasionally in finales and even slow movements as well. In the eleventh century, Foot Binding seemed to be a mandatory procedure for Chinese Women. It was an excruciating process that women would go through to please their husbands. Foot binding became popular as a means of a flaunting status because women from wealthy families who did not need them to work could afford to have their feet bound The practice became so established that a woman who did not have bound feet would have difficulty finding a husband, for most families they demanded a woman with tiny feet when selecting a wife for their son. • 20. Morality Is Not The End All Be All Morality is not the End All be All Morality is a set of principles that individuals use to distinguish between right and wrong, good and bad actions. Being the code by which we live our lives, morality is a concept that leaks into almost every aspect of human life. For example, even a mundane activity like eating a sandwich for lunch can have moral implications. Consider this question, was the turkey that ended up on the sandwich raised in horrific factory farm conditions and subjected to torturous treatment? That is a question with heavy moral implications. Distinguishing right action from wrong is a crucial skill for humans to have, but is morality the only thing that truly matters about a person. Susan Wolf, an esteemed philosopher, thinks it is not. Wolf argues that morality is just one of many aspects and values of a person. In other words, people are more than just moral beings and we should be happy that this is the case. This paper will provide a brief look at Susan Wolf s argument as well as my argument for why her contention is the correct one. First a brief summary of one of Wolf s most notable pieces, Moral Saints . In Moral Saints , Wolf argues from example. She opens her piece by asserting that she does not know if there are moral saints in the world, but she is happy that she has not encountered any in her life. Wolf then goes on describing two different kinds of moral saints that she believes can be conceptualized using common sense, the loving saint and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Our whole world must face all the great and the not so great that come with the bearing of a child. This involves mothers having the option to care and nurture their child where ever and whenever they please, such as breast feeding in public if it were to be an option. However, overtime societies view and perspective on breast feeding has become more of a deviant act then it was many years ago. While looking at the deviance of breast feeding in public overtime, it can be viewed in the lenses of social norms that are divided into 2 groups: folkways and mores. Breast feeding can also fall under the category of labeling theory and conflict perspective can also play a role in the deviance of social construct. William Sumner is the genius that decided to place norm into separate groups, such as, folkway and mores in the year 1906. (The Editors) Folkway is described as the everyday norm that is based on tradition, custom and mannerism. (Ferrante, 2015) And if a person decides not to follow through with the folkway norm then it would possibly cause others to think that they are strange or different from others around them, but it would not cause any type conflict. Folkway connects with breast feeding if one believes in Christianity and the Virgin Mary because it is said that if one witnesses the Virgin Mary breast feeding or nursing whether it is through a dream, art or real historical ... In our readings, various theories on the effectiveness of punishment were either verified or unsupported at some point in time over the past three centuries. From my understanding of the reading Beccaria s belief that certainty is the most important piece of punishment, even when compared to severity , (Cullen, Agnew, Wilcox, 2014) counts as one of those verified factors when addressing punishment in our criminal justice system. ... • 41. Hamilton Vs Thomas Jefferson Essay Jefferson and Madison were two of the Founding Fathers of America. Thomas Jefferson wrote the Declaration of Independence, and James Madison wrote many important parts of the Constitution; these two people helped contribute to what America is today. The Constitution established America s government, laws, and guaranteed citizens basic rights. One of the most debated issues over the Constitution is how strictly or loosely the Constitution should be `interpreted. Although Thomas Jefferson and James Madison were strict constructionists, this characterization changed during their presidencies, because the circumstances necessitated a shift. Jefferson and Hamilton feuded over whether the Bank was constitutional or not. Jefferson believed since the bank was not written or enumerated, in the Constitution it was forbidden. Hamilton argued that the bank was constitutional because the Constitution s implied powers did not forbid the creation of the bank therefore it was permitted. Hamilton created the Elastic Clause of Congress that stated Congress has the power to do whatever is necessary and proper to carry out its appointed duties, consequently leading to the ... • 44. The Development Of Children s Education 5 7 years: This age group of children will have to go through a transition from nursery to school; reception year, (where practitioners still follow EYFS) and then children move on to key stage one, (where teachers follow the National Curriculum Key Stage 1). Children s education is still based on play, however now children have a lot more of adult led activities in which they learn to concentrate for longer periods of time. The environment in schools that surrounds children is more complex because the children get to learn more, therefore some displays might contain bigger amount of more complex mathematical language than we can find in a nursery setting. As children go into key stage 1, it isn t the only environmental look that changes, the equipment is also more complex and advanced because it is aimed for children that are now at a higher stage of mathematical development. As I discussed earlier Early Years Foundation Stage changes and becomes the National Curriculum Key Stage 1; the system changes a little bit and instead of carpet time that children used to have in the nursery becomes a lesson . Some children in reception might still work on their emergent mathematics. However, as they move up to Key Stage 1, children begin to learn a lot more complex mathematics and it is not longer emergent because they have passed this stage which should be fully achieved by now... • 45. How Technology Changed Allowing More People Essay The year was 1790 when outside vendors copied and sold maps and publications without consent of the original owners. The government set a law into place to put a copyright, the exclusive right to make copies, license, and otherwise exploit a literary, musical, or artistic work, whether printed, audio, video, etc (1) , on items and ideas of their choosing preventing such from being stolen or transformed for 14 years. Within fifty years, technology changed allowing more people understood what a copyright was and therefore a new law extended the length of the copyright from 14 to 28 years, a solid length of time for ones work to be properly appreciated by the public. It took roughly seventy years before the law changed again, this time including a 28 year renewal plan, allowing the original copyright owners to keep their licensed work from the hands of the public domain for a total of 56 years. Almost he entire lifetime of a person from the early 1900 s could be contained within the length of a single copyright. It would be another 67 years before the law was changed yet again. Not only did the law change to keep ones copyright protected for 70 years, but and additonal 50 years after the owners death could be tacked onto the lifeline of their copywritten piece of work. • 48. Theme Of Motherhood In The Secret Life Of Bees The Secret Life of Bees: Analysing the Importance of Motherhood The greatest potential influence and need in a child s life is a mother, someone who will put their happiness and needs after their child s. The major theme in Sue Monk Kidd s, The Secret Life of Bee s, is the importance of motherhood in a child s life, displayed through Lily s constant search for a mother figure. Lily starts off looking to Rosaleen as a guide in her life, she then finds a mother figure in the Black Mary after learning about her story, and in the end, accepts August and the other sisters of Mary as her surrogate mothers. Lily tells August about the many things that she loves, she even wants to communicate her deep admiration for August but is unable to. August is like a mother figure to Lily also because she cares a lot about her and provides Lily with a kind of support and love that no one has ever expressed to her. For example, when Lily finally tells August about how she killed her mother and expresses how she feels unlovable, August consoles her and ensures her that she is admirable. That s a terrible, terrible thing for you to live with. But you re not unlovable. Even if you did accidentally kill her, you are still the most dear, most lovable girl I know, (Kidd, 242). Throughout her entire life, T. Ray never cared enough to emotionally support Lily, and Rosaleen s personality was too snarky for her to understand Lily s position. Lily finally has someone to talk to and releases all her pent up guilt, regret, and pain to August. August and the sisters of Mary also provide Lily with a sense of motherly instinct and protection. • 51. Powerful Women In The Odyssey Power is a curious concept that most people have or understand. When women experience power and strength it is incredible and unique. In The Odyssey by Homer, there are a lot of powerful, strong women. Women in this poem are tough, strong willed and are treated with the respect and seriousness they deserve. (Bartleby 1). In this quote, it is talking about how women were treated well, but in reality women were treated like wasted space. As Homer writes about women, they seemed to be smarter than the men. The women know what to do, how to do it, and most importantly listen to what other people say. When Hermes tells Calypso to let Odysseus go, she obeyed. She knew if she would have ignored the gods, there would have been consequences. The men in this book aren t very good listeners.
