Mediated Channel Interview
Conducting an Interview in a Mediated Channel The preparation process for the interview, was
relatively simple. Rebecca and I first decided and what would be the most effective channel for us to
conduct the interview on. We both agreed on Skype because unlike Facetime and other video
messaging platforms, Skype, allowed for us to conduct an interview through both our phones and
computers. When deciding on what questions to ask Rebecca, I tried to be pleasant and cordial
because I noticed right away that she was not extrovert and took into consideration that I would have
to build up some rapport before asking her more personal questions. I decided what questions to ask
Rebecca, by trying to gage what she valued as important and the best indicator ... Show more content

Whether it s my classmates, girlfriend, friends or co workers, I like to find out information about
others, but I don t necessarily like to divulge information about myself. In political science classes, we
discuss the role of power. I happen to think that information is power. As a result, in conversation with
strangers, I purposely try to obtain as much information as I can about them, while offering up as little
about myself as I possibly can. Rebecca did an alright job of capturing my essence. She mentioned my
love of art and how I protested against President Elect Trump, but she didn t mention, how I grew up
with a mother with a different religious background than my father in a majority Muslim country.
Rebecca also failed to mention how much the story of David and Goliath, spawned my interest in
public service. Also, I really wished she included my favorite quote, by Edmund Burke, which I try to
live by, in which he states The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do

Battle of Bunker Hill
What would it be like to go to Bunker Hill? What would it be like to go to Breed s Hill? Well, there
was a battle called Battle of Bunker Hill that is a famous battle in history. The Battle of Bunker Hill
has many leaders, causes, effects and events that lead to fight.
There were very few causes. Well to begin with, History.com says that Prescott, one of the Patriots
leaders, heard that the British were coming. So Prescott got prepared. Although different sites say
different causes. Ushistory.com states that the British were threatening the Patriots. So of course, the
patriots were determined to win. There were also many men in this battle. According to the text, The
American Revolution, confirms Washington sent 1,000 men to defend for Bunker Hill. He ignored
orders and decided to fight for Breed s Hill, which was closer to the Boston Harbor, 68.
There were main leaders on each side. For example, Encyclopedia Americana, says on the British side
Thomas Gage and General Howe lead the soldiers. They ordered them to fire, get in columns, march
and many more things. Howe was sent with 1,600 men to out number the Patriots. There was also a
man named Artemas Ward and he made an ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

My Journey At Seattle Pacific University
For the first eighteen years of my life I was raised in a conservative Southern Baptist church. During
my journey at Seattle Pacific University, I have been attending different church traditions in order to
find my own individual faith. One church that I have attended is Holy Apostles Greek Orthodox
Church. Since the Orthodox practices seemed abundantly different from the services that I grew up
with, I was hesitant but also excited and interested in their faith. Holy Apostles Greek Orthodox
Church was established in 1999 and is located in Shoreline, Washington. Their mission statement is to
be an extended village, welcoming and encouraging both adults and children to participate in the
Orthodox Christian Faith, as we grow together, like the Holy Apostles, to know, love and serve Jesus
Christ . The congregation invites any person that is interested in learning more about the Orthodox
faith or is a member of the faith to join them in worship at their parish. As their website states,
Everyone is welcome here whatever your story, your questions, whatever your ethnic background,
whatever your doubts or struggles. Come as you are, because that s where God meets us . There are
currently about 200 members that attend Holy Apostles. While the congregation is predominantly
white, there is a wide range of ages from young children to older adults. I attended the Sunday
morning Divine Liturgy with a group of friends. We were also invited to stay for their coffee hour and

The Fundamental Principle Of Inclusive Schooling
Meeting children s needs is a vital aspect of teaching whereby the needs of all children must be taken
into consideration. Teacher s professional practice is developed over time in various ways, for
example through experience and reflection (Tack et al, 2014). My professional practice was informed
by Meeting Children s Needs module as it educated me on how to assist children to become successful
learners. This can be achieved through various strategies that meet the diverse needs of every child.
The National Curriculum (National Curriculum, 2000) has at times been ambiguous on the matter of
inclusion as it is a contentious term. A prominent philosophy within education was that children had to
adapt themselves to classroom learning in order ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Hence it is important that schools embrace diversity to ensure effective learning of all takes place.
Each child is special and as a practitioner working with children I have to be aware of all issues
surrounding children s lives as outside factors affect learning. This essay will focus on the case studies
of Charlotte and Pinkesh to illustrate how these case studies educated me on how to deal with children
in similar situations and how my professional practice has been developed. These concepts of meeting
children s needs prepared me for my SEL experience in many ways. Firstly, it allowed me to
understand the importance of inclusion and how this was crucial to effective learning. One pupil I
profiled was Jake; not given a SEN statement, however the teacher ensured she differentiated, in turn
enhancing his learning. Jake was very capable but he had behavioural issues and suffered from low
self esteem: very shy and liked working on his own. After his work was completed he would act out.
This behaviour was similar to the case study of Charlotte as her behaviour deteriorated for attention.
Charlotte just like Jake had low self esteem; these children need to be given challenging work so they
can reach their full potential. Maslow points to the importance of self esteem and as a need by all to
feel valued (Maslow, 1954, p.91). Banks has argued that having good

Thatcher and Thatcherism Essay
Thatcher and Thatcherism
It is now twenty years since Margaret Thatcher was elected Prime Minister of Great Britain, and over
eight years since she left office. So this seems a good opportunity to look back at what Thatcher and
Thatcherism may have achieved, and what may be the lessons for today.
I must start with a disclaimer. I m the British High Commissioner and normally speak on behalf of the
British Government in Australia. But I hope you will realise that in addressing a subject such as this I
am speaking in a personal capacity. I am not quite sure what the Foreign Office would say if I asked
them for the official line on Thatcherism. Given some of their run ins with her on foreign policy, ...

But the bulk of my career was in fact working for Ministers who to a greater or lesser extent fell out
with her. Nigel Lawson, who was Chancellor of the Exchequer, and in many ways one of those who
most closely shared her philosophy on freeing markets and on cutting spending and taxes. But who
disagreed with her strongly on exchange rate policy and on the poll tax, leading eventually to his
resignation.
And then I worked for John Major, when he was Prime Minister, and in effect her anointed successor.
But who found it hard sometimes to cope with the voices off from Mrs Thatcher or her friends
criticising him for not following her policies or her advice.
So I welcome this opportunity to step back and reflect on Thatcher and Thatcherism.
By any standard, she is a remarkable figure. The longest serving British Prime Minister this century.
The only one to have won three successive General Elections and indeed she was never defeated at a
General Election. The only woman Prime Minister. The only one with an ism associated with her.
I want to concentrate on her period as Prime Minister. But I first should put it in context by setting out
some of the background. For she became Prime Minister at a time when some of the accepted
nostrums that had guided British

The Social Of A Social Institution
Connect structure to your social issue/topic:
1.) What social institutions are connected to your social issue/topic?
My topic is gender roles in society the social institutions which influence to the stigmatization of
gender are:
Family: Throughout history women and men have been stigmatized into categories based on their
biological sex. Parents from day one address their child based on their physical characteristics of
either a male or female. Family has a great influence because they teach their children at a young age
how to properly act, if the child choses to behave not accordance with their gender role they are
quickly corrected because acting out of your gender role is wrong.
Religion: this social institution can play a role in influencing gender norms because some religions
believe that there are specific duties and roles for each gender. For example in an Islamic religion it is
believed that women are to fulfill their duties as a wife and mother while the father is to be able to
protect and financially support the family. In Christianity women are seen as unfit to be in the high
roles of religion like being a priest.
Culture: In all cultures women have a set role in which they are to follow within their society. Here in
the United States women are working for better gender equality and more people are coming out about
who they are in the inside regardless of what gender norms they are breaking. For my third country I
picked Afghanistan, in this country women are

The Perspective Of The Global North
Yasinthan Nithyananthamoorthy ENG4U0 Ms. Michielin October 13, 2014 In the perspective of the
global north I believe that we are all living in the digital age. In the global north, technology has been
included into our daily lifestyle. Technology was first created to reduce human effort. An example can
be as simple as writing a book. Instead of using hand writing to write you can use a computer. I know
when I write down on paper there are many things that are limited. Like when you constantly make
mistakes and you start to erase a lot and the paper will start to rip. Also when writing long essays, I
start it get lazy and my handwriting gets sloppy and in the end the essay isn t even readable. Where,
when using a computer you can edit your work from anywhere you want, there is different fonts to
choose from and there are certain tools that will help you like spell check and auto correct. This is
when technology is put into great use because it is used to help speed up the process of a simple thing
that is used in our life. I believe that it is amazing how technology has developed over the past few
years because now, not only does it simplify the things in life, it is now created to entertain us. Even
though technology is making our lives easier we must not depend on it too much because if we do, all
the other things that are important will start slowly disappearing, like books. The value of books are
slowly decreasing because of technology. B.O.O.K stands for the bank of

Park Avenue Analysis
Upon watching the YouTube video, Park Avenue: money, power and the American dream Why
Poverty? I began to see some connections between what we have been learning in English 205 and the
video I was watching. What the video shows is a group of ultra rich white men that use their money
and politics to keep themselves rich and to keep the rest of us down. They also use their power to
advance their political agendas. How did these men get and maintain their money? Some of the men
shown in the video come from a long history of money, while some of them made money on their own
though dealings on Wall Street. I believe one of the speakers said something about hedge fund
managers. You might ask, But what do these men all have in common? ... Show more content on

Now, this was not a fair game of monopoly, but a game where there was an ultra rich player, a regular
player, and then a poor player. The ultra rich player acted as if they were owed money, while making
fun of the poor player quite a bit. This can be seen in our society post civil war. You have white men
with all the money, property, and all of the political power keeping the freshly freed slaves in a state of
poverty. Even if they didn t actively go after the poor or racial minorities, they still benefited from the
system that stacked the cards heavily in their favor. We see in the video that a lot of the rich white men
do not want their money to go towards the takers or have nots of society. They don t want the money
that they have access to partially because of white privilege to help out those who never even had a
shot at succeeding. On the other hand, what we do see is the ultra rich white men expecting the poor
and downtrodden, including the large minority population just 10 minutes from their swanky homes in
New York City, to pull themselves up by their own bootstraps. How can those who are born in abject
poverty, with no access to things that white privilege brings, and a very poor education system be
expected to succeed? Another part of the video tries to shed some light on the notorious Koch brothers
and their influence in modern day politics. We see that the brothers use their money and

The Auteur Theory In The 1960s
Auteur theory supports the director as a singular author of a film: this is a term that essentially means,
author comparable to a writer that is an author of a novel. Andrew Sarris, who is a film critic from the
US states, The strong director imposes his own personality on a film; the weak director allows the
personalities of others to run rampant. (Sarris, 1968) This suggests that a good director leaves his/her
personal signature or mark on his artwork, a distinct style or a constant theme throughout that will be
seen as unique in the film community. This could be achieved through the consistent use of similar
subject matter, related themes, repeated cast or a reoccurring visual and aesthetic style.

An extraordinary amount of structural art, emphasising colour, arrangements and grain, displays
evidently in every scene. His signature is seen through the challenging shots cinematography, and the
fantasy worlds in his narratives.
Colour palette
The Colour palettes in Anderson s films are significant as it can be used to recognise his films from
the rest. The frequent use of vibrant colours that occasionally clash with each other (yellow and
orange) constructs a theatre like a backdrop, eliminating it from the current period. It is no surprise
Anderson is passionate about the 50s/60s from his choice of props and complex theatre like set
designs, which isn t something we see in films today. An example would be in his film The Life
Aquatic; only half a set was built to allow the camera to transport freely to different rooms.
Collaborating
For many years, Anderson has gathered a great collaborative group of actors/actresses, which have
recurred in his past films. Casts, such as Owen Wilson, Bill Murray, Jeff Goldblum etc. This allows
Anderson to have great control over his work due to the cast being familiar with his directing style and
narratives. Also, he chooses to work with the same DOP (Robert Yeoman) and hasn t changed since.
Since Yeoman already recognises the director s preferences, this also allows the independence to
create a movie to his own personal

Narrative of the life of Frederick Douglas Summary: The Narrative of the life of Fredrick Douglas

slave. Fredrick was exposed to what he believed were the evils of slavery, as well as the effects it had
on both slaves and slave holders. The beginning of the narrative takes place in the late 1800s where a
young Douglas lives the life of slave under Captain Anthony. Like all other slaves he is unaware of his
date of birth and left uneducated. During this time Douglas was left unsure about his situation,
confused as to why slaves could not know their date of birth and unaware that the joyful toned songs
sung by slaves were of grief. Douglas

floor, and what building I was in in general, but the remembrance of the floor number button six
lighting up separately three times is etched into my memory. For a second the elevator stops; it felt

Stylistic Analysis In Tess Of The D Urbervilles
CHAPTER 1
INTRODUCTION
A novel is the name ascribed to the genre of literature which is the result of creative mind of a writer
and the readers come in contact with the fictional world of the novels through its language. Hence, for
comprehending fictional texts, a close study and analysis of language is a necessary prerequisite.
Stylistic analysis is used as an analytical tool to see textual patterns and its significance. It is based on
statistical data that validate how language, vocabulary and syntax are used to bring about
interpretation of the text.

The coming researchers can conduct further research in this field by extending or using it.
1.6 Delimitations of the Study
The study focuses on the stylistic analysis of a novel by Thomas Hardy only. So, due to time and
financial constraints, the data collection was limited to the opening chapter only. The writer knows
that it was better to include the complete novel or the comparative study of many works but it may
help as reference for the other researchers. The data was delimited to the opening chapter of the novel
Tess of the D Urbervilles only.
1.7 Methodology and Procedure
The purpose of this study was to examine the stylistic elements in the opening chapter of Thomas
Hardy s Tess of the D Urbervilles. So, the research has been conducted by both quantitate and
qualitative methods. The quantitate data has been analyzed through some web based online resources,
mainly: online utility.org, textalyser.net, erg.delph in.net and analyzemywriting.com. For qualitative
analysis we have used the method of stylistic analysis as proposed by Leech and Short (2007) in their
book Style in Fiction: A Linguistic Introduction to English Fictional Prose.

Paula Black Unmasking Beauty Standards
Unmasking Beauty Standards: An Analysis Across Generations As women, we can alter our
appearance through the use of beauty products, such as makeup. According to Paula Black, author of
The Beauty Industry : Gender, Culture, Pleasure, When women put on a face, they continue to express
ideas of naturalness and artifice, authenticity and deception, propriety and danger, modernity and
tradition. Making up remains a gesture bound to perception of self and body, the intimate and the
social a gesture rooted in women s everyday lives (Peiss, 1998, p.27). (Black 7). In other words,
makeup can be used to alter a woman s identity. For example, during the Victorian era, men feared

Margaret, who was from the oldest generation, noted that when she was young, makeup was
something that women were expected to wear when dressing up. When I inquired if she still felt this
way, she agreed. I wear makeup on occasion, normally when going out to the bar and socializing with
friends or on dates. (S, Margaret). According to Black, women from this generation used makeup as a
tool to accentuate their feminine features. She explains Young women in the 1950s saw experimenting
with appearance as a vital element to their own developing sense of femininity (Black 36). What she is
saying is that during this period in history, women used makeup as a way to emphasize their feminine
characteristics. Another shift in the way we understand beauty standards happened in the generation
that Susan was born; during this time people began to recognize these change as a byproduct of our
culture. It is during the 1960s and 1970s that the fashion and beauty industry begins to receive
political critique. Prior to this date, although we sometimes see resistance to the use of cosmetics, and
criticism on moral grounds, the area of beauty had not been viewed as a legitimate political concern.
The phrase the personal is political is an echo of the way that appearance could no longer be seen
simply as an individual, or unimportant

Compare And Contrast Didion And Thomas
There are always two sides to every story, sometimes even more. When discussing the phenomenon of
the Santa Ana winds and their accompanying brush fires, Linda Thomas and Joan Didion each have
their own side of the story. Throughout the texts, Didion and Thomas converge with one another by
means of their life experiences as southern Californians and also through using sensory details to
illustrate their stories. However, they do not share similar feelings towards the nature of the winds and
fire. The authors diverge in this way as well as in their viewpoints on the conflict of people and nature.
Through these similarities and differences, both Didion and Thomas build their respective messages
into well written texts. Didion and Thomas share ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In Brush Fires, Thomas points out that chaparral has been there since before people settled the area
and, the burning of chaparral during these winds is natural (Thomas). She argues that the chaparral
zone should take precedent over suburban development in her sixth paragraph, All of this would be no
more than the stuff of natural history...Right in the path of natural fires (Thomas). Her stance on the
matter is clear: homes being burned to the ground are not the fault of the fires, but of the moronic
humans who built them in the middle of a known chaparral zone. Didion, however, does not agree.
She argues that the fires are destroying homes in a sense of uncontrollable doom in the
aforementioned paragraph 5, The Santa Ana caused Malibu to burn as it did in 1956, and Bel Air in
1961, and Santa Barbara in 1964 (Didion). Didion believes that the brush fires of the Santa Ana winds
are an obstacle to people due to the bad vibes and horrible fires they bring. Whereas, Thomas believes
that the encroaching human population is the obstacle to the natural brush fires that are just running

The Yellow Wallpaper
The Yellow Wallpaper
Charlotte Perkins Gilman s The Yellow Wallpaper first appeared in 1892 and became a notary piece of
literature for it s historical and influential context. Gilman s The Yellow Wallpaper was a first hand
account of the oppression faced toward females and the mentally ill, whom were both shunned in
society in the late 1890 s. It is the story of an unnamed woman confined by her doctor husband to an
attic nursery with barred windows and a bolted down bed. Forbidden to write, the narrator protagonist
becomes obsessed with the room s wallpaper, which she finds first hideous and then fascinating; on it
she eventually deciphers an imprisoned woman whom she attempts to liberate by peeling the paper off

The room that confines Gilman s narrator,is a cruel, ingenious cage. It is in this room that the
wallpaper reduces an artistic and articulate woman to an animal, stripped entirely of her sanity and
humanity. Through Gilman s symbolism, the reader can interpret that the paper symbolizes her current
situation that she faces with society and her husband. Both restrain and monitor much like the
wallpaper and lead the narrator to subsequent mental demise. By placing her in this room, John, the
narrator s husband, becomes the main antagonist and a direct reason why she ends up she way she
does. He makes gestures at restraining her by locking up the surrounding of the house and speaks to
her demeaning as dear or little goose (1152). The influence her husband has on the narrator is
dominant as he hardly lets her stir without special direction and in turn makes her very tired (1151).
After these actions she starts to imagine the wallpaper as having eyes that are watching her
unceasingly and a woman that surfaces at night. It was the under the scrutiny of the two bulbous eyes

madness. Despite committing for her every artistic sin, the paper does not begin disrupt the narrator s

My First Clinical Shift As An Emt Student
Mangled Hearts Clipboard and stethoscope in hand, I walked toward the double doors that flashed
emergency in bright red letters above. It was my first clinical shift as an EMT student, and first day
jitters fluttered around in my stomach. I had no idea what lay ahead of me. However, I was not

blared through the emergency room. I turned to my preceptor and quizzically asked what this meant. A
rapid response is a patient who is in need of immediate medical care and intervention. As an EMT

Struggle For Land In Israel Conflict Essay
The Struggle for Land in Israel and Palestine: What s the Problems Ahead?
Abstract
The Israeli Palestinian conflict is a continuing conflict, which is a part of Arab Israel conflict and the
Middle East war. This paper mainly explores the conflicts which caused the struggle for land in Israel
and Palestine.
Why Is It So Hard to Stop Struggling For Land? The land struggle between Israel and Palestine have
never ended for almost a century. Today, though there are a lot of agreements, the conflicts and the
possibility of the war are still existent. There four main reasons to explain why it is so hard to stop
struggling for land: the history, water resources, vengeance, and religious.
The History
Both of two ethnics claim to the land of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In Israel, Large amounts (700 900 mm) are measured in the Golan and the Galilee mountains and in
the south Karmel (Carmel). and In the south of the Negev and in the Elat Mountains amounts of rain
even lower than 25 mm/yr are measured. (Israel Water Context, 1961 1990 [3]) Unbalanced
distribution of water resources in space and time makes this region serious shortage of water. And the
river and lakes are scarce in this area. Jordan River is the only perennial river in this region. River and
lakes are direct water sources for human. Thus, naturally, the Jordan River becomes the fuse of the
struggle for land in Israel and Palestine.
Vengeance
Israel will settle scores with those who are killing and those who are encouraging them. Anyone who
raises their hand against us will have their hand cut off. (Bob Fredericks, 2015 [4]). After reading
Netanyahu s words, we can truly know how the vengeance plays a part in the Conflicts between Israel
and Palestine. The vengeance in two groups of people just started at Jewish immigration began. Small
anger and shock cumulated to a huge crack in two sides. When one side launched rockets, the other
side must take a counter back to against. Thus, this the reason why the vengeance causes the struggle
in two sides.
Religious
It s definitely a religious war. That the land struggle especially happens in Jerusalem and the holy sites
can explain this. And also, two leaders both use religion in recent

Identifying A Nosql Data Base
For the challenges we are facing be it technical or functional we find a NoSql data base as a best fit.
We found out that NoSql incorporates a wide mixed bag of various database technologies and were
produced in response to the rising data needs. Also when in comparison to the RDBMS present in the
market NoSql provides an enriched performance and better scalability solutions. So in search of the
best fit as our solution we searched out various types of NoSql database types and found out about
Document databases, Graph databases, Key value stores and other similar types. Let s explore various
market players in each of the type and find the best one.

Since Redis is top dog concerning pace and execution, the database is best utilized when time is an
issue, including job administration, qeueuing, analytics and geo look.
Earlier version of REDIS had the facility of on disk storage but this was deprecated in recent versions
which provided persistence using snapshotting in which the data is persisted asynchronously to disk
from the memory. Currently its every 2 seconds. So we are risking a few seconds data when the
system goes down.
Best Used when you know the size of data which will be in future and can be used in applications
which use real time analytics.
3.2.1.1.2 Apache Cassandra
Apache Cassandra is an open source distributed database management framework intended to handle a
lot of information crosswise over numerous product servers, giving high accessibility. The single point
of failure is eliminated in Cassandra.
It is a Decentralized database and every node has the capability to serve the request as such there is no
use of single master in this case. The key feature of Cassandra is this distributed architecture which
serves very useful for multiple deployments of data centers.
It includes other features like Scalability, Fault tolerant, support with Hadoop, etc. It gives a
recognizable interface (CQL, reminiscent of SQL) and the learning curve isn t excessively soak for
users.

Griffith s Narrative Analysis
One word to describe Griffith is.. Eccentric. She is quite abnormal compared to her kin. Griffith is a
proud Lythari, an elf that has the ability to take the form of a wolf, one of very few who exist. As a
beast she stands at 4 , has a length of 5 7 , and weighs in at 160 lbs. The base color of her coat is the
same stark white as her hair with silver marbled in. A few identifying physical traits are that she is
missing 25% of the top of her left ear, while the right has been accented with an assortment of 22
stone, wood, and bone hoops along the outer lobe/cartilage. While in her elven form she stands at 6 4
and weighs in at 220 lbs. Additionally, she has seen 22 namedays, which makes her one of the younger
of her kind. Due to the strength ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Because of this they are renowned for their desire to maintain a status of nonexistence to the rest of
the races, which is why they dwell deep within the forests and mountains, far from the rest of
humanity. This is where Griffith s oddity begins to show. Her curiosity and desire to learn about all
that she sees is deeply shunned. That s not to say that her people are not wise, but they seek
knowledge of the land, animal, and flora of their territories while Griffith thirsts for the knowledge of
other races. That being said, it does not seem as thought she was cast out from her pack, she seems to
suggest that she left of her own free will. Beyond that she doesn t elaborate on her travels as she often
becomes distracted or bored, but it is clear she has seen much in her young

Effects Of Discrimination And Minority Stress
Discrimination and Minority Stress As stated earlier previous studies have reported decreased
resilience among LGBA+ populations, however, it is important to note that identifying, as LGBA+
does not inherently cause the distress that is the source of poorer levels of mental health and
resilience. Instead, it is a reaction the previously stated statistics representing shocking levels of
exposure to discrimination, which also take the form of microaggressions. Micro aggressions are
aimed at minority groups and are a form of assault that can exist in a variety of forms either verbal or
nonverbal, as well as be intentional or unintentional on behalf of the perpetrator. Microaggressions
have previously been linked to increased mental health difficulties in the form of increased anxiety in
African American University Students (Smith, Allen, Danley, 2007). As individuals worldwide of
multiple ethnicities, ages, religiosity, and able bodiedness may identify as LGBA+, taking into
account, this intersectionality and how it impacts on resilience is necessary to our understanding of
LGBA+ populations. An individual who identifies both as a sexual minority and as an ethnic minority
may have the effects of such discrimination and micro aggressions compounded resulting in overall
poorer resilience as the stressors experienced an increase (Balsam, Molina, Beadnell, Simoni, Walters,
2011). The Intersectionality between ethnicity and sexual identity also has a clear impact on social

My Neighbor Totoro Essay
Hayao Miyazaki has directed ten Studio Ghibli films, and many more outside the company. Most of
his films include a form of uncertainty, some of which include technological ambiguity, moral
ambiguity, and the ambiguity of age. The focus of this essay is Miyazaki s ambiguity of age,
specifically through his film My Neighbor Totoro. Through the theme of the ambiguity of age,
Miyazaki is able to show the different characteristics that are maintained through maturing,
characteristics that are left behind, and characteristics that are gained from the process of growing up.
I will focus on the differences of maturity between the two sisters and the father in My Neighbor
Totoro. Miyazaki s film My Neighbor Totoro tells the story of the two young daughters (Satsuki and
Mei), their father (Tatsuo), and the family s interactions with friendly wood spirits in postwar rural
Japan (Wikipedia). Satsuki seems to be around ten years old, and Mei seems to be around five years
old. The imbalance of maturity in Satsuki and Mei is first demonstrated when they are running around
their new house. Nothing is explicit about age Miyazaki only shows Satsuki running around the house,
and then shows Mei doing the same thing, but she does it like a young child (Miyazaki 10). This
seemingly small age difference is the foundation of Miyazaki s themes, motifs, and juxtapositions. In
the film, Satsuki and Mei s mother (Yasuko) has a long term illness
and is in the hospital. As a result, the

Second Great Awakening Research Paper
Introduction
The First Great Awakening was a religious revival that was associated with Jonathan Edwards an
American evangelical preacher and Methodist evangelist George Whitfield. The revivals renewed
interest in the Christian faith. During the revivals, it was believed that people experienced
conversions, salvation, regeneration or spiritual rebirth. It was a time of restructuring and re evaluating
political social and religions ideas. The movement sparked the American Revolution with was fueled
by the growing religious alienation between the Revivalist and the established religion of England.
According to Alister E. McGrath, The dominant theme was the desire to break free from the
oppressive and exploitative influence of England . Gusto L. Gonzalez noted that, The Great
Awakening was the first movement to unite the thirteen colonies, which would become the United
States . Moreover, the independence of the thirteen colonies and the wealth created by the industrial
revolution inspired new religious, political and social ideas. The Great Awakening of the 18th century

Accordingly, the camp meeting at Cane Ridge, Kentucky played a major role in transforming religion.
Because thousands were saved during the revival, camp meeting became the most popular way to

of the new measures he implemented. Finney s revivals required that all non religious activity stop for

First of all, more and more Canadian students go to other countries for study instead of stay in
Canada. In this, government will lose huge revenue from education industry. Fortunately, Canada is a
popular destination for international student to have better education. The article said international

Corrupting The Youth Of Athens Is A Valid Charge Against...
1. I do not believe that corrupting the youth of Athens is a valid charge against Socrates. If Athens was
truly a republic, then every citizen should be given the right to free speech. That means that any
citizen has the right to choose what to listen to. In reality, the people that charged Socrates were just
afraid that his new ideas would spread to the next generation. It is clear that Socrates ideas are vastly
different from theirs, but being an independent individual doesn t mean that one should be punished
by death. The main reason that Socrates is charged for corrupting the youth of athens is because he
calls things like they are. In his speech he called out politicians and claimed that they were full of
themselves. This is true even now, but at that time it would have been inappropriate to mock political
figures that the youth of Athens were supposed to look up to and obey. During this time, Athenians
would have linked free thinking with rebellion and viewed Socrates as a threat. Even if people did
agree with Socrates, no one would want to be associated with him in order to protect themselves,
reputation, and material items. Socrates charge wasn t about corruption it was about eliminating a
source of enlightenment for the people. The real corruption was the hidden politics in the state going
on at the time. The only way the charge could be valid is if Socrates forced the youth to listen to him.
But as Socrates had said, he does not charge money to spread his

Analysis Of Chesterton And His Literary Masterpiece
While doing research on G.K. Chesterton and his literary masterpiece, I came upon this question What
is the difference between progress and growth? to which G.K. Chesterton answered The fatal
metaphor of progress, which means leaving things behind us, has utterly obscured the real idea of
growth, which means leaving things inside of us. This statement is just one of the plethora of
quotations of a man who never attended any university, and it amazing how he can say something
about everything and say it better than everybody else. This is a journey to understand a genius and
the Nightmare that he is well known for even over one hundred years after it was written.

Although he never went to college, he proved that genius cannot be tied down to the rules of the
academy. Chesterton, in fact, chose to be a journalist, because in that role he could think most
profoundly, powerfully, and effectively.
He was vitally concerned with the injustices of Great Britain to its dependencies. He progressed from
newspaper to public debate. He used logic, laughter, paradox, and his own winning personality to
show that imperialism was destroying English patriotism.
In 1900 he published his first literary works, two volumes of poetry. In 1900 he met Hilaire Belloc,
and in 1901 he married Frances Blogg. These events were two of the great influences in his life. From
1904 to 1936 Chesterton published nearly a dozen novels, the most important being The Napoleon of
Notting Hill (1904) and The Man Who Was Thursday (1908). In 1911 Chesterton created the Father
Brown detective stories. During his literary career he published 90 books and numerous articles.
He poured out a wealth of lighthearted essays, historical sketches, and metaphysical and polemical
works, together with such well known poems as The Ballad of the White Horse, Lepanto, and the
drinking songs from The Flying Inn. Among his major critical works are reviews of Robert Browning
(1903) and Charles Dickens (1906). Prodigiously talented, Chesterton also illustrated a number of
Belloc s light works.

Our True Nationality Is Mankind
Our true nationality is mankind. ― H.G. Wells
Today, the scourge of nationalism continues to infect humanity. Without doubt, in some circles,
nationalism is hotly debated. For most people, however, the concept of nationalism is rarely
questioned. In fact, it s a foregone conclusion that people should love the nation in which they reside.
Some people even take great pride in the fact that they were arbitrarily born in a specific geographical
location. Unfortunately, like religion or capitalism, nationalism is alive and well in the 21st century.
Throughout the history of human civilization, people have been creating, critiquing and altering
institutions. For instance, people have been condemning religion for centuries, indeed millennia. Yet
the institution of religion still remains a dominant force in modern society. Without question, religious
institutions and practices have morphed, dare I say, evolved, over the centuries. But the fundamental
concept that human beings exist within an abstract framework of Gods, mythologies, symbols, and so
forth, still remains.
In short, it takes an extremely long time to change ideologies and practices. On the other hand, that
doesn t mean conversations about such topics should be off limits or discouraged. Quite the contrary:
such conversations are essential, especially today. As the legendary science fiction writer Ursula K. Le
Guin recently said, We live in capitalism. Its power seems inescapable. So did the divine right of

Explain The Three Strikes Law For Juveniles
The Three Strikes Law For juveniles
The three strikes law are meant to raise the prison sentences for offenders being incarcerated for a
serious felony such as a violent crime and who have previously committed two other felonies that
were serious or very violent crimes. The three strikes law places a life sentences on those types of
criminals. The reason for this law to be created was to deter crime and keep offenders from
reoffending, also the courts and the community felt that the law needed to get tougher on crime. The
punishment of course must be proportionate to the crimes, some of the crimes for example were

They have committed drug and alcohol crimes such as drunk and disorderly, drug abuse, sexual
offenses, such as prostitution and rape. There are instances where juveniles are tried as adults
depending on the offense, the severity of the crime and age. Juveniles have been sentenced to a life
sentences and have also stood on death row. I think that if a juvenile at the age of 15 or 16 commits a
crime violent or not and knowingly knows that it is wrong should suffer the consequences of his
actions. I think if the court can prove intent, mental stability, has evidence and can show the juvenile
understood his actions he should be liable. I agree that a juvenile can and should be given the three
strike law, but only under the conditions that the law states, one his/her age should be a factor, their
history, the past crimes and if any were in fact felony violent crimes and how severe they were.
According to an article juvenile offense can count towards the three strike law under California penal
code 667(d)(3)(a). For it to qualify the offender had to of been 16 when the crime was committed, if
the prior offenses was considered serious or violent, determined to be ward of the court and fit to be
dealt with under juvenile court. So, if the court could use your juvenile offenses against you then why
shouldn t the three strike laws apply to juveniles if it s a serious felony. Yes, juveniles can be more apt
to change, but there are those who do not change and continue to commit crime, Juvenile crime has
continued to rise, and you see more of them becoming violent. The slap on the wrist, boot camp, and
probation just isn t working. Juveniles are becoming very disrespectful towards authority and the law.
You see many reoffending and going back into the system

The Iranian Hostage Crisis was an event that took place in the capital of Iran in November of 1979
that lasted a long four hundred and forty four days. What led up to the breaking point in the Hostage
crisis happened fast and was a result of a bad tie between the people and government of Iran and the
US involvement with Iran. During the crisis the US president Jimmy Carter had the military attempt
rescues of the hostages. The Iranian Hostage crisis did not only cause tensions to flare between the US
and Iran but also the crisis was a result of already weak ties between the two countries leading to a
negative relationship in the years that followed. The backstory of the ... Show more content on

The leaders of both nations had a large impact on throughout the hostage crisis and even before the
crisis had started. For instance Iran s leader at the time. After the shah of Iran entered the US for
cancer treatment, Ayatollah Khomeini took over with his movement and had a very different approach
to the hostage crisis than the United States president Jimmy Carter did. Khomeini wanted to show his
strength the rest of the world while the US had nothing to prove but wanted to rescue the hostages.
Carter later attempted a rescue which later failed and accomplished nothing for the US. On Iran s side
Khomeini was in full support of the hostages being held in Iran because he believed that it showed
part of the Iranian revolution. Ayatollah Khomeini also believed that was a put down to the American
impact on Iran and their government. These two goals between each leader show the different attitudes
and approach from each side. On Iran s side, they wanted to prove that they were a power in
government and that they could cause big events to happen in the world. For the United states it was
different, the US did not have anything to prove and just wanted the hostages to be free. The US did
not want to cause a big scene either and it showed as

The Effects Of Demonic Possession And Psychological Illness
Many have tried to argue for the existence of demonic possession, some even go so far as to say that
demonic possession and psychological illnesses are fundamentally different. If mental illness and
demonic possession are not simply different names for the same thing, then we are left with two
possibilities. Either they are unrelated phenomena, or there is some kind of association between them.
Of course, even if they are unrelated, they may still be confused with each other because of superficial
similarities. If they are related, however, we need to understand the nature of the connection between
them. Thus, we may be faced with a differential diagnostic problem. Either we need to distinguish
which of these two entities we are dealing with, or else we need to identify which is the primary
problem which led to the other as a secondary complication.
The goal of this paper is to thoroughly analyze the history of demonic in comparison to the
psychological illness, schizophrenia, a disorder that remains without a complete cure and is still
extremely debilitating for the diagnosed if they are not receiving treatment. This will be done by
describing both the origin of demonic possession and schizophrenia, identifying the way each are
diagnosed, and how they are treated. I will then provide an example of an exorcism done to banish a
demon where schizophrenia might have been a better diagnosis. I will finally discuss why demonic
possession and the illness schizophrenia are

Trauma And Recovery By Judith Herman Essay
In Judith Herman s book, Trauma and Recovery, she discusses her research and work with trauma
survivors. In her book, she writes that, traumatic events are extraordinary, not because they occur
rarely, but rather because they overwhelm the ordinary human adaptations to life (Herman 24). She
explores the idea that trauma is as individual as it is common, with reactions and the journey to the
post traumatic self similar despite differences in events. In the case of Barbara Gordon, while the
event may vary, her physical and mental trauma can be compared to America s fear of its forfeiture of
power to terror and the loss of the towers after September 11, 2001. Trauma is about more than just
the physical ramifications; when the physical aspect is fixed, Barbara s legs and the building of the 1
World Trade Center, the mental and emotional trauma still remain.
Barbara was far from helpless prior to Alan Moore s The Killing Joke. She was first introduced as
Batgirl, in Detective Comics #359, after saving Bruce Wayne from the Killer Moth in her own Bat
inspired costume. Barbara began taking self defense classes when she was six, according to Batgirl #0,
and is trained in both Judo and Karate. These skills, along with her incredible intellect, allowed her to
fight alongside Batman and Robin until her retirement. That changed when she lost the use of her legs.
Instead of enabling her to live her life as she wished, they served as a reminder of everything that she

Attenuation effect of caffein and/or nifedipine against selenite induced cataractogenesis
Abstract
Objectives: The current study was performed to investigate the anti cataractogenic effect of single and
combined treatment with caffeine and nifedipine in sodium selenite induced cataract.
Methods: Seventy five healthy albino Wistar rats were divided into 5 groups; the first group received
intraperitoneal injection of saline and served as control, 2nd group received a single subcutaneous
injection of 30 nmol/g body weights of sodium selenite to induce cataract. 3rd and 4th groups received
0.1 mg/kg of nifedipine and 5.15 µmoles of caffeine respectively, starting two days prior to the
administration of selenite and continuing such treatment till the end of experiment. Last group got the
combined treatments of nifedipine and caffeine in the same regimen. Animals were decapitated after 5,
15 and 25 days of the experiment.
Results: The results indicated a very highly significant decrease (P˂0.001) in total soluble lens protein
and Na+ K+ATPase activity, a very highly significant increase (P˂0.001) in calcium lens content in
selenite cataract group. Also significant changes in the molecular weight and area under peaks
estimated in profile of electrophoretic mobility of lens proteins were found in selenite group. All these
changes reduced markedly in caffeine and nifedipine group.
Conclusions: nutrients with antioxidant capabilities can potentially delay against these changes such

The Effect Of Biofeedback On Basketball Players And Effect...
2. Background Information
This study analyzes the use of biofeedback in basketball players and the effect on their on court
performance. Athletes need to have the capability to modify, learn, and correct their muscle memory.
Enhancing an athlete s performance depends on the ability for the central and peripheral nervous
systems to communicate in response to an active stimulus. This study has some variables measured
including the reaction time: the time between the stimulus and a bodily movement; the movement
time: the time taken in the middle of the onset and completion of the bodily movement; and the
response time: the aggregate time of the reaction and movement. There have been previous studies
that look at the use of Electromyographic Biofeedback (EMG BFB) and Electroencephalographic
Biofeedback (EEG BFB) and found correlations between improvement in performance and
responsiveness to stimuli. However, there has not been an analysis of the use of Heart Rate Variability
Biofeedback (HRV BFB) which measures an increase in the response time and attention deficit in
athletes. The most important aspect of an athlete s performance is the ability to tune out outside
disturbances during a game or match. If an athlete can master that skill, then they can perform at their
optimum output. Having the ability to enhance their techniques is important for achievement in sports,
especially in basketball, where there are a multitude of offensive and defensive skills. Most notably,

The Stanford Prison Experiment And Philip G Zimbardo
In chapter two, we study the research methods of different psychological experiments and studies.
This includes the ethical obligations of researchers toward the participants in their research, which are
enforced by institutional review boards at American research colleges and universities. In these
studies, researchers are required to provide the following: (a) informed consent of the purpose of the
research, its expected duration, and any potential risks, discomfort, or adverse associated with it ; (b)
protection for harm and discomfort; (c) knowledge of deception in a study and debriefing once the
study has concluded. These obligations are required to protect research participants. However, these
are not always followed in research. In the 2015 movie, The Stanford Prison Experiment , audiences
are shown a reenactment of the notorious true story. In August of 1971, psychologist, Philip G.
Zimbardo, at Stanford University was interested on the psychological effect that prison s have on
human behavior. Therefore, Zimbardo put an ad in the newspaper reading, Male college students

Essay about Magic Empowers Women in La Casa de Los Espiritus
Magic empowers women in La casa de los espíritus Discuss. In Isabel Allende s first novel, La casa de
los espíritus the reader is introduced to her use of magic as a means which enables women to feel
sustained in times of difficulty and which provides them with a power base (Bennett, C. 2003:174).
Interestingly, the women s connection with the spiritual and magical stands in contrast to the men s
rejection of anything that doesn t adhere to their strict perception of morbid reality. Therefore, Allende
quite clearly outlines magical properties as essentially feminine (Shaw, D. 1997:116) and spirituality
in all its forms as a province of the female of the species (Hart, S. 2005:275) only. It can be argued

Though some critics are of the opinion that Clara is a passive character and her silences aren t exactly
magic, Marjorie Agosín argues that Clara chose silence not out of passivity or fear but rather because
that was the only way for her to create her own space composed of hidden signs and signals (Agosín,

away from the destructiveness and aggressiveness of her husband. Even though Agosín s statement

  • 2. Mediated Channel Interview Conducting an Interview in a Mediated Channel The preparation process for the interview, was relatively simple. Rebecca and I first decided and what would be the most effective channel for us to conduct the interview on. We both agreed on Skype because unlike Facetime and other video messaging platforms, Skype, allowed for us to conduct an interview through both our phones and computers. When deciding on what questions to ask Rebecca, I tried to be pleasant and cordial because I noticed right away that she was not extrovert and took into consideration that I would have to build up some rapport before asking her more personal questions. I decided what questions to ask Rebecca, by trying to gage what she valued as important and the best indicator ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Whether it s my classmates, girlfriend, friends or co workers, I like to find out information about others, but I don t necessarily like to divulge information about myself. In political science classes, we discuss the role of power. I happen to think that information is power. As a result, in conversation with strangers, I purposely try to obtain as much information as I can about them, while offering up as little about myself as I possibly can. Rebecca did an alright job of capturing my essence. She mentioned my love of art and how I protested against President Elect Trump, but she didn t mention, how I grew up with a mother with a different religious background than my father in a majority Muslim country. Rebecca also failed to mention how much the story of David and Goliath, spawned my interest in public service. Also, I really wished she included my favorite quote, by Edmund Burke, which I try to live by, in which he states The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do ... What would it be like to go to Breed s Hill? Well, there was a battle called Battle of Bunker Hill that is a famous battle in history. The Battle of Bunker Hill has many leaders, causes, effects and events that lead to fight. There were very few causes. Well to begin with, History.com says that Prescott, one of the Patriots leaders, heard that the British were coming. So Prescott got prepared. Although different sites say different causes. Ushistory.com states that the British were threatening the Patriots. So of course, the patriots were determined to win. There were also many men in this battle. According to the text, The American Revolution, confirms Washington sent 1,000 men to defend for Bunker Hill. He ignored orders and decided to fight for Breed s Hill, which was closer to the Boston Harbor, 68. There were main leaders on each side. For example, Encyclopedia Americana, says on the British side Thomas Gage and General Howe lead the soldiers. They ordered them to fire, get in columns, march and many more things. Howe was sent with 1,600 men to out number the Patriots. There was also a man named Artemas Ward and he made an ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Web. 18 Nov. 2015. Battle Of Bunker Hill. • 4. My Journey At Seattle Pacific University For the first eighteen years of my life I was raised in a conservative Southern Baptist church. During my journey at Seattle Pacific University, I have been attending different church traditions in order to find my own individual faith. One church that I have attended is Holy Apostles Greek Orthodox Church. Since the Orthodox practices seemed abundantly different from the services that I grew up with, I was hesitant but also excited and interested in their faith. Holy Apostles Greek Orthodox Church was established in 1999 and is located in Shoreline, Washington. Their mission statement is to be an extended village, welcoming and encouraging both adults and children to participate in the Orthodox Christian Faith, as we grow together, like the Holy Apostles, to know, love and serve Jesus Christ . The congregation invites any person that is interested in learning more about the Orthodox faith or is a member of the faith to join them in worship at their parish. As their website states, Everyone is welcome here whatever your story, your questions, whatever your ethnic background, whatever your doubts or struggles. Come as you are, because that s where God meets us . There are currently about 200 members that attend Holy Apostles. While the congregation is predominantly white, there is a wide range of ages from young children to older adults. I attended the Sunday morning Divine Liturgy with a group of friends. • 5. The Fundamental Principle Of Inclusive Schooling Meeting children s needs is a vital aspect of teaching whereby the needs of all children must be taken into consideration. Teacher s professional practice is developed over time in various ways, for example through experience and reflection (Tack et al, 2014). My professional practice was informed by Meeting Children s Needs module as it educated me on how to assist children to become successful learners. This can be achieved through various strategies that meet the diverse needs of every child. The National Curriculum (National Curriculum, 2000) has at times been ambiguous on the matter of inclusion as it is a contentious term. A prominent philosophy within education was that children had to adapt themselves to classroom learning in order ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Hence it is important that schools embrace diversity to ensure effective learning of all takes place. Each child is special and as a practitioner working with children I have to be aware of all issues surrounding children s lives as outside factors affect learning. This essay will focus on the case studies of Charlotte and Pinkesh to illustrate how these case studies educated me on how to deal with children in similar situations and how my professional practice has been developed. These concepts of meeting children s needs prepared me for my SEL experience in many ways. Firstly, it allowed me to understand the importance of inclusion and how this was crucial to effective learning. One pupil I profiled was Jake; not given a SEN statement, however the teacher ensured she differentiated, in turn enhancing his learning. Jake was very capable but he had behavioural issues and suffered from low self esteem: very shy and liked working on his own. After his work was completed he would act out. This behaviour was similar to the case study of Charlotte as her behaviour deteriorated for attention. Charlotte just like Jake had low self esteem; these children need to be given challenging work so they can reach their full potential. Maslow points to the importance of self esteem and as a need by all to feel valued (Maslow, 1954, p.91). Banks has argued that having good ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Thatcher and Thatcherism Essay Thatcher and Thatcherism It is now twenty years since Margaret Thatcher was elected Prime Minister of Great Britain, and over eight years since she left office. So this seems a good opportunity to look back at what Thatcher and Thatcherism may have achieved, and what may be the lessons for today. I must start with a disclaimer. I m the British High Commissioner and normally speak on behalf of the British Government in Australia. But I hope you will realise that in addressing a subject such as this I am speaking in a personal capacity. I am not quite sure what the Foreign Office would say if I asked them for the official line on Thatcherism. Given some of their run ins with her on foreign policy, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... But the bulk of my career was in fact working for Ministers who to a greater or lesser extent fell out with her. Nigel Lawson, who was Chancellor of the Exchequer, and in many ways one of those who most closely shared her philosophy on freeing markets and on cutting spending and taxes. But who disagreed with her strongly on exchange rate policy and on the poll tax, leading eventually to his resignation. And then I worked for John Major, when he was Prime Minister, and in effect her anointed successor. But who found it hard sometimes to cope with the voices off from Mrs Thatcher or her friends criticising him for not following her policies or her advice. So I welcome this opportunity to step back and reflect on Thatcher and Thatcherism. By any standard, she is a remarkable figure. The longest serving British Prime Minister this century. The only one to have won three successive General Elections and indeed she was never defeated at a General Election. The only woman Prime Minister. The only one with an ism associated with her. I want to concentrate on her period as Prime Minister. But I first should put it in context by setting out some of the background. For she became Prime Minister at a time when some of the accepted nostrums that had guided British ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. The Social Of A Social Institution Connect structure to your social issue/topic: 1.) What social institutions are connected to your social issue/topic? My topic is gender roles in society the social institutions which influence to the stigmatization of gender are: Family: Throughout history women and men have been stigmatized into categories based on their biological sex. Parents from day one address their child based on their physical characteristics of either a male or female. Family has a great influence because they teach their children at a young age how to properly act, if the child choses to behave not accordance with their gender role they are quickly corrected because acting out of your gender role is wrong. Religion: this social institution can play a role in influencing gender norms because some religions believe that there are specific duties and roles for each gender. For example in an Islamic religion it is believed that women are to fulfill their duties as a wife and mother while the father is to be able to protect and financially support the family. In Christianity women are seen as unfit to be in the high roles of religion like being a priest. Culture: In all cultures women have a set role in which they are to follow within their society. Here in the United States women are working for better gender equality and more people are coming out about who they are in the inside regardless of what gender norms they are breaking. For my third country I picked Afghanistan, in this country women are ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. The Perspective Of The Global North Yasinthan Nithyananthamoorthy ENG4U0 Ms. Michielin October 13, 2014 In the perspective of the global north I believe that we are all living in the digital age. In the global north, technology has been included into our daily lifestyle. Technology was first created to reduce human effort. An example can be as simple as writing a book. Instead of using hand writing to write you can use a computer. I know when I write down on paper there are many things that are limited. Like when you constantly make mistakes and you start to erase a lot and the paper will start to rip. Also when writing long essays, I start it get lazy and my handwriting gets sloppy and in the end the essay isn t even readable. Where, when using a computer you can edit your work from anywhere you want, there is different fonts to choose from and there are certain tools that will help you like spell check and auto correct. This is when technology is put into great use because it is used to help speed up the process of a simple thing that is used in our life. I believe that it is amazing how technology has developed over the past few years because now, not only does it simplify the things in life, it is now created to entertain us. Even though technology is making our lives easier we must not depend on it too much because if we do, all the other things that are important will start slowly disappearing, like books. The value of books are slowly decreasing because of technology. B.O.O.K stands for the bank of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 9. Park Avenue Analysis Upon watching the YouTube video, Park Avenue: money, power and the American dream Why Poverty? I began to see some connections between what we have been learning in English 205 and the video I was watching. What the video shows is a group of ultra rich white men that use their money and politics to keep themselves rich and to keep the rest of us down. They also use their power to advance their political agendas. How did these men get and maintain their money? Some of the men shown in the video come from a long history of money, while some of them made money on their own though dealings on Wall Street. I believe one of the speakers said something about hedge fund managers. You might ask, But what do these men all have in common? ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Now, this was not a fair game of monopoly, but a game where there was an ultra rich player, a regular player, and then a poor player. The ultra rich player acted as if they were owed money, while making fun of the poor player quite a bit. This can be seen in our society post civil war. You have white men with all the money, property, and all of the political power keeping the freshly freed slaves in a state of poverty. Even if they didn t actively go after the poor or racial minorities, they still benefited from the system that stacked the cards heavily in their favor. We see in the video that a lot of the rich white men do not want their money to go towards the takers or have nots of society. They don t want the money that they have access to partially because of white privilege to help out those who never even had a shot at succeeding. On the other hand, what we do see is the ultra rich white men expecting the poor and downtrodden, including the large minority population just 10 minutes from their swanky homes in New York City, to pull themselves up by their own bootstraps. How can those who are born in abject poverty, with no access to things that white privilege brings, and a very poor education system be expected to succeed? Another part of the video tries to shed some light on the notorious Koch brothers and their influence in modern day politics. We see that the brothers use their money and ... • 10. The Auteur Theory In The 1960s Auteur theory supports the director as a singular author of a film: this is a term that essentially means, author comparable to a writer that is an author of a novel. Andrew Sarris, who is a film critic from the US states, The strong director imposes his own personality on a film; the weak director allows the personalities of others to run rampant. (Sarris, 1968) This suggests that a good director leaves his/her personal signature or mark on his artwork, a distinct style or a constant theme throughout that will be seen as unique in the film community. This could be achieved through the consistent use of similar subject matter, related themes, repeated cast or a reoccurring visual and aesthetic style. The History The significance of ... His signature is seen through the challenging shots cinematography, and the fantasy worlds in his narratives. Colour palette The Colour palettes in Anderson s films are significant as it can be used to recognise his films from the rest. The frequent use of vibrant colours that occasionally clash with each other (yellow and orange) constructs a theatre like a backdrop, eliminating it from the current period. It is no surprise Anderson is passionate about the 50s/60s from his choice of props and complex theatre like set designs, which isn t something we see in films today. An example would be in his film The Life Aquatic; only half a set was built to allow the camera to transport freely to different rooms. Collaborating For many years, Anderson has gathered a great collaborative group of actors/actresses, which have recurred in his past films. Casts, such as Owen Wilson, Bill Murray, Jeff Goldblum etc. This allows Anderson to have great control over his work due to the cast being familiar with his directing style and narratives. The beginning of the narrative takes place in the late 1800s where a young Douglas lives the life of slave under Captain Anthony. Whenever I m in one, I feel anxious and claustrophobic; I m afraid that it ll get stuck, or worse, fall several stories down. I press the button of the floor I m going to, six. Stylistic Analysis In Tess Of The D Urbervilles CHAPTER 1 INTRODUCTION A novel is the name ascribed to the genre of literature which is the result of creative mind of a writer and the readers come in contact with the fictional world of the novels through its language. Hence, for comprehending fictional texts, a close study and analysis of language is a necessary prerequisite. Stylistic analysis is used as an analytical tool to see textual patterns and its significance. According to Black, women from this generation used makeup as a tool to accentuate their feminine features. She explains Young women in the 1950s saw experimenting with appearance as a vital element to their own developing sense of femininity (Black 36). What she is saying is that during this period in history, women used makeup as a way to emphasize their feminine characteristics. Another shift in the way we understand beauty standards happened in the generation that Susan was born; during this time people began to recognize these change as a byproduct of our culture. It is during the 1960s and 1970s that the fashion and beauty industry begins to receive political critique. Prior to this date, although we sometimes see resistance to the use of cosmetics, and criticism on moral grounds, the area of beauty had not been viewed as a legitimate political concern. Through the theme of the ambiguity of age, Miyazaki is able to show the different characteristics that are maintained through maturing, characteristics that are left behind, and characteristics that are gained from the process of growing up. I will focus on the differences of maturity between the two sisters and the father in My Neighbor Totoro. Nothing is explicit about age Miyazaki only shows Satsuki running around the house, and then shows Mei doing the same thing, but she does it like a young child (Miyazaki 10). If Athens was truly a republic, then every citizen should be given the right to free speech. That means that any citizen has the right to choose what to listen to. In reality, the people that charged Socrates were just afraid that his new ideas would spread to the next generation. It is clear that Socrates ideas are vastly different from theirs, but being an independent individual doesn t mean that one should be punished by death. The main reason that Socrates is charged for corrupting the youth of athens is because he calls things like they are. In his speech he called out politicians and claimed that they were full of themselves. This is true even now, but at that time it would have been inappropriate to mock political figures that the youth of Athens were supposed to look up to and obey. During this time, Athenians would have linked free thinking with rebellion and viewed Socrates as a threat. Even if people did agree with Socrates, no one would want to be associated with him in order to protect themselves, reputation, and material items. Socrates charge wasn t about corruption it was about eliminating a source of enlightenment for the people. The real corruption was the hidden politics in the state going on at the time. I think that if a juvenile at the age of 15 or 16 commits a crime violent or not and knowingly knows that it is wrong should suffer the consequences of his actions. I think if the court can prove intent, mental stability, has evidence and can show the juvenile understood his actions he should be liable. I agree that a juvenile can and should be given the three strike law, but only under the conditions that the law states, one his/her age should be a factor, their history, the past crimes and if any were in fact felony violent crimes and how severe they were. The Effects Of Demonic Possession And Psychological Illness Many have tried to argue for the existence of demonic possession, some even go so far as to say that demonic possession and psychological illnesses are fundamentally different. If mental illness and demonic possession are not simply different names for the same thing, then we are left with two possibilities. Either they are unrelated phenomena, or there is some kind of association between them. Of course, even if they are unrelated, they may still be confused with each other because of superficial similarities. • 32. Trauma And Recovery By Judith Herman Essay In Judith Herman s book, Trauma and Recovery, she discusses her research and work with trauma survivors. In her book, she writes that, traumatic events are extraordinary, not because they occur rarely, but rather because they overwhelm the ordinary human adaptations to life (Herman 24). She explores the idea that trauma is as individual as it is common, with reactions and the journey to the post traumatic self similar despite differences in events. In the case of Barbara Gordon, while the event may vary, her physical and mental trauma can be compared to America s fear of its forfeiture of power to terror and the loss of the towers after September 11, 2001. Trauma is about more than just the physical ramifications; when the physical aspect is fixed, Barbara s legs and the building of the 1 World Trade Center, the mental and emotional trauma still remain. Barbara was far from helpless prior to Alan Moore s The Killing Joke. She was first introduced as Batgirl, in Detective Comics #359, after saving Bruce Wayne from the Killer Moth in her own Bat inspired costume. Barbara began taking self defense classes when she was six, according to Batgirl #0, and is trained in both Judo and Karate. These skills, along with her incredible intellect, allowed her to fight alongside Batman and Robin until her retirement. That changed when she lost the use of her legs. Instead of enabling her to live her life as she wished, they served as a reminder of everything that she had lost after ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

I said. Number three, Trista. My neighbor answered me, so I fumbled with my papers to find the right page. After about a decade, I finally found it, but the teacher had already moved on to the next student. I can t believe I was so zoned out. I m kind of used to it by now. Lunch was the same thing. I was all smiles as I walked back through the double doors. Several people mouthed to me, Did you mess up? Did you do good? Did you do this? Did you do that? All I could do was smile and nod my head yes. Later that night me and my friends ran up to the front doors of East to find out who made the team. Before I could even get out of the car I took a deep breath and hoped for the best. I slowly stepped out of the car and waited there for a moment. Two point five seconds later I was running like a cheetah towards the front door of the school. I looked crazily for my number on the sheet of paper. It was there. I couldn t believe it. So many thoughts were going through my head. I literally couldn t think right. Me and my friends started hugging each other. To my surprise all my friends made it, and I was so proud of them. • 34. Attenuation Effect Of Single And Combined Treatment With... Attenuation effect of caffein and/or nifedipine against selenite induced cataractogenesis Abstract Objectives: The current study was performed to investigate the anti cataractogenic effect of single and combined treatment with caffeine and nifedipine in sodium selenite induced cataract. Methods: Seventy five healthy albino Wistar rats were divided into 5 groups; the first group received intraperitoneal injection of saline and served as control, 2nd group received a single subcutaneous injection of 30 nmol/g body weights of sodium selenite to induce cataract. 3rd and 4th groups received 0.1 mg/kg of nifedipine and 5.15 µmoles of caffeine respectively, starting two days prior to the administration of selenite and continuing such treatment till the end of experiment. Last group got the combined treatments of nifedipine and caffeine in the same regimen. Animals were decapitated after 5, 15 and 25 days of the experiment. Results: The results indicated a very highly significant decrease (P˂0.001) in total soluble lens protein and Na+ K+ATPase activity, a very highly significant increase (P˂0.001) in calcium lens content in selenite cataract group. Also significant changes in the molecular weight and area under peaks estimated in profile of electrophoretic mobility of lens proteins were found in selenite group. All these changes reduced markedly in caffeine and nifedipine group. Conclusions: nutrients with antioxidant capabilities can potentially delay against these changes such ... • 35. The Effect Of Biofeedback On Basketball Players And Effect... 2. Background Information This study analyzes the use of biofeedback in basketball players and the effect on their on court performance. Athletes need to have the capability to modify, learn, and correct their muscle memory. Enhancing an athlete s performance depends on the ability for the central and peripheral nervous systems to communicate in response to an active stimulus. This study has some variables measured including the reaction time: the time between the stimulus and a bodily movement; the movement time: the time taken in the middle of the onset and completion of the bodily movement; and the response time: the aggregate time of the reaction and movement. There have been previous studies that look at the use of Electromyographic Biofeedback (EMG BFB) and Electroencephalographic Biofeedback (EEG BFB) and found correlations between improvement in performance and responsiveness to stimuli. However, there has not been an analysis of the use of Heart Rate Variability Biofeedback (HRV BFB) which measures an increase in the response time and attention deficit in athletes. The most important aspect of an athlete s performance is the ability to tune out outside disturbances during a game or match. If an athlete can master that skill, then they can perform at their optimum output. Having the ability to enhance their techniques is important for achievement in sports, especially in basketball, where there are a multitude of offensive and defensive skills. Most notably, ... • 36. The Stanford Prison Experiment And Philip G Zimbardo In chapter two, we study the research methods of different psychological experiments and studies. This includes the ethical obligations of researchers toward the participants in their research, which are enforced by institutional review boards at American research colleges and universities. In these studies, researchers are required to provide the following: (a) informed consent of the purpose of the research, its expected duration, and any potential risks, discomfort, or adverse associated with it ; (b) protection for harm and discomfort; (c) knowledge of deception in a study and debriefing once the study has concluded. These obligations are required to protect research participants. However, these are not always followed in research. In the 2015 movie, The Stanford Prison Experiment , audiences are shown a reenactment of the notorious true story. In August of 1971, psychologist, Philip G. Zimbardo, at Stanford University was interested on the psychological effect that prison s have on human behavior. On the second day of the experiment, prisoners rebelled against the guards which provoked the guards to put a rewards and punishment system into place, which turned into a hunger for power. This power hungry alliance of guards forced three prisoners to be released from the experiment for traumatic experiences by day four. As the experiment continued, the guards only became more tyrannical while the prisoners become more unhinged. This forced Dr. Zimbardo to finally discontinue the experiment after day ... • 38. Essay about Magic Empowers Women in La Casa de Los Espiritus Magic empowers women in La casa de los espíritus Discuss. In Isabel Allende s first novel, La casa de los espíritus the reader is introduced to her use of magic as a means which enables women to feel sustained in times of difficulty and which provides them with a power base (Bennett, C. 2003:174). Interestingly, the women s connection with the spiritual and magical stands in contrast to the men s rejection of anything that doesn t adhere to their strict perception of morbid reality. Therefore, Allende quite clearly outlines magical properties as essentially feminine (Shaw, D. 1997:116) and spirituality in all its forms as a province of the female of the species (Hart, S. 2005:275) only. It can be argued that women and magic ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Though some critics are of the opinion that Clara is a passive character and her silences aren t exactly magic, Marjorie Agosín argues that Clara chose silence not out of passivity or fear but rather because that was the only way for her to create her own space composed of hidden signs and signals (Agosín, M. 1984:36). It therefore represents a place for her to be alone with the spirits and creates a safe haven away from the destructiveness and aggressiveness of her husband. Even though Agosín s statement rejects Clara s passivity, it is possible to disagree on the basis that she did not have sufficient information, and possessed neither the power nor the tools necessary (Allende, I. 1984:41) to bring about her liberation therefore she was forced to refer to what can be read as passive resistance. As a result of this, Esteban is unable to connect with her and soon realizes that Clara no le pertenecía y que si ella continuaba habitando un mundo de aparecidos [...] lo mas probable era que no llegará a pertenecerle nunca (La casa de los espíritus, 108). Interestingly Clara s dwelling in her intrinsic reality and lack of engagement in political matters juxtapose to the orientations of her granddaughter. Alba has a more pro active and emancipated personality turned [...] toward work, politics and the preoccupations of present day society (Allende, 1984:40). When compared to Alba s ... Alone Time director Rob used at the beginning of minute 0.29 to 0.58 a nostalgic instrumental score and I noticed that Ann was sad especially when she saw some people talking, I thought that she felt lonely and sad. Another sound element used in this film sound effects. You can only heard the sound of every surrounding; for instance, in minute 1:04 when she was on the metro, you can only heard people talking and the sound of the train. The sound effect used in minute 2:25 when Ann is in her apartment tried to eat some noodles and she only hear a couple argued and a music track. The only time that you heard Ann talking is in minute 3:41 to 4:00 sounds happy to go camping which was used soundtrack. Moreover, Rod add another score when Ann was driving to the mountains, it was a happy and relaxing song besides you can see Ann s face which is a happy face. Another score was like your heart beating so fast when Ann saw her picture when she was inside of her tent camp while she was sleeping it makes seeing a creepy scene.
