The Controversy Of Material Displacement
The controversy of material displacement, from their primary structural means.
Material displacement, absurd formation and facadism, creates discussion, challenges the viewers and
provokes polarised opinions. Architects within the current era, are expressive, artistically driven,
technologically aided and therefore experimental. These factors have encouraged outrageous designs
and statements. The outcomes have provoked controversy, which are expressed through various
mediums, such as media, articles, debates and lectures. An architect that has created many
controversial buildings, is non other than Frank Gehry. The individual whose works are considered
between pragmatic professionalism and radical experimentation. One building that will be further
articulated and examined, is the Dr Chau Chak Wing Building, University of Technology Sydney
(UTS). A building spawned from a sketch, and an idea of a tree house and as Gehry himself said A
growing, learning organism with many branches of thought, some robust and some ephemeral and
delicate . The intention of the design was to develop it inside out, which has undoubtedly shaped the
branding and marketing efforts of the school. The greatest controversial statement made towards the
building, is its absurd and somewhat organic display of a fabric like, brick facade. A facade that has
been sculpted in a way that has never been attempted quite like that before. All to achieve the concept
of movement , a fabric like quality with a

The Treatment Of Psychiatric Drugs
The Use of Psychiatric Drugs To Treat Children
Statistics determine that seventeen million children in the world have been prescribed psychiatric
medications for mental illnesses or disorders ( Facts and Statistics ). In a society where one in four
people suffer from a mental illness, it s disturbing to find that many of these people are children.
Many of these children will never have the opportunity to live normally without being under the
influence of a drug. After taking a position as a lead teacher for a two year old classroom, it s
disheartening to hear that children as young as eighteen months old are being prescribed psychiatric
medication. One can imagine how severe the physical, mental, emotional, and social impact would be

These drugs are generally prescribed when a person is diagnosed with a mental illness such as
Schizophrenia, Depression, or Attention Deficit Disorder. The sudden rise in number of mental illness
diagnoses has led to a rapid increase in the number of prescriptions recommended to patients. Sadly,
many of these patients are children who are diagnosed with Attention Deficit Disorder, Attention
Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, and Depression. According to Erica Goode, studies indicate that
pediatricians and child psychiatrists , are frequently leaning towards the use of psychotropic
medication as the treatment of choice for an assortment of mental illnesses and disorders (Goode,
Study Finds Jump in Children Taking Psychiatric Drugs ). This acknowledgement solidifies the
unsettling norm of children taking prescription drugs daily in an effort to mask their behaviors. Instead
of using numerous methods of teaching and parenting to counteract unpleasant or hyperactive
behavior, professionals have now employed a different approach by using medicalization to treat
emotional and behavioral problems (Mcleod et. al, 54). The problem with this approach is that the
behavior is never actually addressed. Instead it s medicated causing children to become zombies or
robots rather than living, breathing, human beings, with genuine thoughts, emotions, and behaviors.
In addition to the strange increase in the use of psychiatric drugs to treat children, there are also
several side

Exploring Various Best Practices That Can Alleviate...
Airports can often be described as small cities as they require efficient and effective management to
operate in a productive manner. Like small cities, an airport is comprised of a variety of different
systems, facilities, users, and regulations that are all interconnected. This complex and dynamic
environment has proven to be taxing on existing infrastructure over the past several decades as
passenger enplanements continue to reach record highs with a projected 1 billion passengers set to
travel worldwide by 2021 (Price 2011). For airports to achieve these lofty goals, they must tie
sustainability initiatives and objectives into the capital improvement budget process which requires
coordination with a variety of different stakeholders. This essay aims to explore various best practices
that can alleviate existing waste within the airport infrastructure environment in the United States and
obstacles that may be encountered while attempting to implement such solutions. It will also formulate
arguments for and against the implementation of greener initiatives from various industry
stakeholders. The scope of this research primarily focuses on renewable power generation, innovative
terminal design, and passenger incentives to make greener choices while traveling. These three
components correspond to the critical components that make up the airport system: the source, the
experience, and the passenger respectively. The current environmental impact of airports is one that

Tomato Plant
TOMATO PLANT 1)
Seed: Tomato seeds are small, flat and disk shaped and about 1/8 inch wide. They contain two energy
storage organs called cotyledons and an embryo encased in a hard outer shell called the seed coat. The
seed is the dormant or resting stage of the plant life cycle. When young tomato plants are damaged,
they tend to go into a dormant, survival stage in which plant growth is delayed for a while. Frost
damage is something to look out for when planting tomatoes early on in the season. Frost damage is
marked by tender, dark green spots on the leaves. Although they won t kill the plant, frostbites will
make them dormant for a while, delaying plant growth. During the germination process, the seed
absorbs moisture and nutrients ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They have their own definite shape and arrangement in plants according to their requirements. Leaves
trap energy from sunlight and convert it into pure compounds. For this the leaves are arranged on the
stem in a way that they are exposed mostly in the sunlight. i) Leaves help in the process of plant
cellular respiration. Plant cellular respiration carried out in the daylight is called photorespiration, or
light respiration. The plant uses a portion of the oxygen created by photosynthesis. Since the process
of photosynthesis produces more oxygen than the plant can use, the excess is released into the air
through the stomata, tiny air holes in the leaves. The plant takes its sugars directly from what is being
produced by photosynthesis. 5) Food Making: j) Photosynthesis: the process of producing and
releasing oxygen in the air. Photosynthesis is performed by the plants to produce their own food. The
process of Photosynthesis requires direct sunlight, carbon dioxide and water (H2O). In the process of
Photosynthesis, the plants decompose the molecules of hydrogen and carbon dioxide into hydrogen,
carbon and oxygen to produce glucose which forms the source of their energy, growth and food. This
involves the conversion of stored energy of the sunlight, water and carbon dioxide into glucose which
is an organic compound and release oxygen in the process. k) Importance of photosynthesis: Plants are
the only living things that produce their own food.

Freud and Rapunzel
In the fairy tale Rapunzel , the dreamer, Rapunzel, successfully passes through all the Freudian
psychosexual stages of development. Symbolism helps to illustrate the dreamer s movement through
the five stages. The Witch portrays the super ego figure in Rapunzel . Rapunzel s mother plays the Id
figure. The events of Rapunzel s life lead the reader to identify the dream as more of a nightmare. Her
father agrees to give Rapunzel to a witch, who then locks Rapunzel in a tall tower; only rescued by a
passing prince. Yonic and phallic imagery help identify the dreamer s current stage of psychosexual
development. Although delayed by the witch, the dreamer Rapunzel eventually passes through all
stages of psychosexual development. The Dreamer ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
His act of agreement transitions the dreamer to the anal stage. The witch takes the baby as part of the
agreement, naming her Rapunzel, another word for rampion, symbolizing another oral image. When
Rapunzel turns twelve, the witch locks her in a tower to hide her beauty from the world. Although the
tower represents phallic image, it also symbolizes how the dreamer becomes anal retentive. The tower
had neither stairs nor doors, only high up at the very top a small window ; the witch tries to keep
Rapunzel from the outside world, in theory, keeping her in (1). During the anal stage, a normal child
learns to control ones bodily functions. Thus, Rapunzel becomes dependent on the witch. As the story
continues, a prince happens upon the tower and learns that the entrance to Rapunzel s tower is by her,
long blonde hair. So the next day he comes to the tower, and repeats the witch s words Let down your
golden hair and the Prince climbs up (2). At first, the prince scares Rapunzel but he then spoke to her
so kindly and that his heart had been so touched by her singing (2). Rapunzel undergoes sexual
identification through the prince, another indication of the phallic stage. The prince then offers to help
Rapunzel leave the tower and to marry him (2). Rapunzel agrees to the prince s plan, and in effect, she
attempts to leave the anal stage. But when her escape is eminent she slips in revealing that she
communicates with the prince. After her failed attempt to

Pros And Cons Of Television On TV
According to Juliet Schor, TV has been considered as a promoter of consumerism or TV is a popular
alternative way to costing a lot of spending such as concerts, restaurants, and shopping. Therefore, the
more TV a person watches, the more he/she will spend. In other words, what we see on TV every day
inflates our sense of what s normal or what s not, and what we should be buying just to look like the
lifestyle in TV. Ironically, the lifestyle depicted on TV are far different from the typically Americans
lifestyle, because those characters in the TV are upper middle class with glamorous clothing or even
the rich people. Besides, watching a lot of TV leads to a significant increase in crime rate. The most
important crime is larceny. Because by watching those products on TV made people who didn t have
that want to have and led to steal them. Likewise, by watching the TV, people have imbedded
themselves in the unbearable lifestyle, which is filled with tennis courts, private planes, swimming
pool, private cinema, private gym and separated vacation homes. By seeing these things, people start
to feel the need to spend more than what they should, and care less about the consequences they re
about to face.

The Truth Behind The Underground Railroad
The Truth behind the Underground Railroad

2nd Period Abstract Many people know of the famous slave system called The Underground Railroad.
Throughout this generations time in school this topic have came up numerous times in our history
classes. They mostly talk about the surface of the system and how, the most famous conductor,
Harriett Tubman freed the slaves. This essay is important because it will provide you with in depth

The Truth Behind the Underground Railroad The Underground Railroad is one the most Historic

provide slaves an undetectable way to get to the North. A majority of blacks and few whites called
Conductors , referring to a train, helped blacks plan and travel through different landscapes to reach

Death Penalty Persuasive Essay
An Eye For An Eye
Have you ever watched a movie like Alice in Wonderland where every few scenes somebody is put to
death? This really happens to this day. The real question is if you think it should stay or be abolished.
The death penalty is needed and shouldn t be revoked in any of the states that support it. Capital
punishment, or the death penalty, is one of the oldest forms of punishments. Some of the ways
societies used to kill people was: boiling to death, hanging, and decapitation. Today some countries
still use these methods, however here in the United States capital punishment is mainly death by lethal
injection, electric chair, or firing squad. The death penalty should be in place for three reasons. The
first being the religious aspect, the deterrent of crime, and the overcrowding as well as the cost. The
United States is as close as you can be to a theocracy without being one. Think about our pledge of
allegiance, One nation under God and also on our paper money there is, In God We Trust printed on
them. Our founding fathers did not do a great job at separating church and state. Now it is what every
American uses and says everyday no matter what religion they are. Since there is no getting away
from the beliefs of the world then God is possibly the most important reason to keep capital
punishment. In Genesis 9:6: it is written, Whoever sheds human blood, by humans shall their blood be
shed This can be easily understood as, if somebody kills they are to

The Mentality Of War In Kurt Vonnegut s Slaughterhouse Five
The Mentality of War
Many people think of war hero as a title of honor and glory and therefore perceive war itself as
glorious. But, there are dangerous consequences to serving in war, not only physically but mentally.
Being in such an environment can be traumatic, and leave permanent effects. War can leave scarring
psychological impairments on veterans, causing them to suffer from problems such as personal
insecurities, desensitization to violence, and post traumatic stress disorder.
Serving in war, specifically returning home from war, can cause many psychological impairments and

The movie Dunkirk, directed by Christopher Nolan touches on the idea of how war affects your
mental state and how it can cause you to act irrationally due to PTSD. There is one specific scene in
the movie where a civilian boat rescues a man from the water, but upon hearing that they are heading
to shore to get more soldiers the man goes into a blind rage killing one of the boys on the boat. () The
mere thought of going back to the war sent the man into a full blown mental breakdown where he
wasn t in control of his actions. The stress that he felt about the war affected him so much that it lead
him to hurt a child. That is the severity of what PTSD can do to a person. Likewise, in the excerpt of
The Yellow Birds by Kevin Powers, there is a man is struggling with reentry to civilian life and his
own PTSD. For example, in the excerpt he talks about how the hot air of America is much different
that the air oversees, It was quite unlike the heat in Al Tafar, which had the surprising effect of
reducing one to tears in an instant, even after having spent hours broiling in it already. (p. 131 132).

Examples Of Technology In Fahrenheit 451
In Ray Bradbury s novel, Fahrenheit 451, multiple ideas and themes are shown similar between
Bradbury s envisioned society and today s society. Technology, increase in efficiency due to
technology, and thrill seeking behaviors, are all ideas that are portrayed by Bradbury.
Technology is a common similarity that is brought up many times in both Fahrenheit s society and is
often brought up in today s society. When Bradbury wrote this novel, he was concerned that television
would drown out literature in the future as it became more popular. One might argue that the
introduction of the internet and social media has led people to prefer cyber relationships over human
relationships. An example of this in today s society could be the people on the subway train. We tend
to refrain from communication with others and the best way to do that is by entering our virtual reality
in our technology. But, this hasn t happened to an extent portrayed in the book. Montag, the main
character, begins to interact with a girl named Clarisse in the book, she asks him questions like, Are
you happy (pg.10). In Fahrenheit 451 s society, people haven t totally lost the ability or will to connect
to one another in person. Bradbury provides many examples of how technology has blinded people in
his envisioned society. Mildred, Montag s wife, is a perfect example of how technology is slowly
consuming the lives of people in Fahrenheit 451. Everyday Mildred sits in her room surrounded by a

Cruising In The Caribbean Essay
1.0 TERMS OF REFERENCE
Cruising in the Caribbean has grown rapidly in popularity over recent years, and whilst this is an
advantage from a tourism aspect, it has also brought escalated concerns for many territories in this
region. According to Nagel, G. (1999) tourism in the Caribbean had increased from 5 million to 10.6
million in the space of ten years. Since this had been found in 1996, this number has now raised to 25
million in the past year. Growing demand for cruise travel means economic development,
environmental degeneration, growth in tourism and pollution are now effected more predominantly.
This report will investigate all impacts effecting the Caribbean and what could be done to alter those
effects that are having a negative impact.

Essay on Optical Fiber Corp Case Analysis
Case Analysis:
Optical Fiber Corporation
Introduction
Optical Fiber Corporation (OFC) is a financially successful, albeit relatively small manufacturer of
multimode optical fibers. The company was founded in 1990. The founders were able to enter the
market largely on the basis of acquiring patent licenses from larger optical fiber firms. These licenses
restricted competition between the entities and provided OFC with instant access to optical fiber
technology. In return, OFC s customer base is limited by the license agreements and royalties of 7%
on sales of licensed products (recently renegotiated to 9%) are paid to the licensors. Despite these
handicaps the firm has grown in size and profitability. OFC makes several types ... Show more content

New firms entering the market will be free to produce the products once protected under those patents
without having incurred any R and D costs. These firms will also be free from royalty payments to
licensors or any restrictive covenants such as those under which OFC operates.
The industry in general, and OFC in particular, must contend with the purchasing power of its buyers.
Optical fiber is converted into optical fiber cable. In the United States there are twenty companies that
perform this function. OFC sells over 70% of their fiber to just three. The loss of any of these accounts
could be devastating for OFC and places them in a weak position when negotiating prices, at least
when the products are those which are readily available from other multimode fiber producers. It is
doubtful that switching costs would be high for buyers. Favoring OFC and the optical fiber market are
the projections for increased demand for multimode optical fibers at least through the mid 2000 s.
Sources of increased demand for multimode fiber are anticipated to include: cable TV, undersea
cables, local area networks (LAN) as well as general data communications growth such as computer
uses.
As noted the single mode optical fiber market is much larger than the multimode market. It too, is
expected to see significant growth over the next several years. Single mode fibers

Examples Of Romanticism In Frankenstein
Another aspect of romanticism that is prevalent in Shelly s novel is the way Frankenstein, and his
creation, are controlled by their emotions. Frankenstein is continually ruled by his feelings of fear,
guilt, and love throughout the novel. For instance, he works for nearly two years to accomplish his
goal of creating life, only to immediately flee because of fear when his work comes to life. This was a
major illustration for the reader that despite being an experienced scientist Frankenstein was still ruled
by emotions. In a large portion of the novel Frankenstein seems to be completely motivated by his fear
of the creature he created. When his brother died, he feared people discovering his secret so he let an
innocent woman stand trial. When the monster requested a partner, his fear of the monster propelled
him to try, only to have his fear of having two creatures alive stop him from completing the work. At
the end of the story, Frankenstein s anger over the death of his family members propelled him to chase
the creature across the frozen waters, which lead to his death. Frankenstein was a brilliant thinker who
was continually consumed and motivated by his emotions. Frankenstein s creation was also very much
controlled by his emotions. After he is created and Frankenstein flees from him, he searches across the
land to find companions. The creature is repeatedly rejected because of his looks, and because of that
he is self conscience of the fact that he is

North By Northwest Essay
The film North by Northwest was released in 1959 and is a suspenseful film, directed by Alfred

This smoothness effect lets the scene cuts seem more natural which keeps the viewer engaged to the
story. North by Northwest is a film where the location of the key characters often changes frequently.
It is therefore important to incorporate the technique of establishing shots to ensure the viewers know
what is taking place in the scene. The film North by Northwest uses a wide range of camera
techniques throughout the film in order to create a feeling of suspense and danger. The establishing
shots, close ups, medium shots, and shot reverse shots all play an significant role in conveying
suspense to the audience, while also creating continuousness as well as adding a believable element.
Hitchcock avoids the killing scene cliché by placing Roger Thornhill in the middle of nowhere rather
than a cliché, for example, placing him in a dark street, with only the light from the street lamp, the
killer then comes from behind, emerges from the darkness and kills him. Instead Hitchcock places
Roger Thornhill in the uncommon position to most suspense films, a crop field. This creates questions
from the viewers, what s going to happen

Embryonic Stem Cells Essay
Stem cells
Stem cells are a type of cells that are responsible for the renewal and the regeneration of damaged and
ageing tissues. Stem cells can be divided into two categories: Embryonic Stem cells and Adult stem
cells also known as Somatic stem cells. Embryonic stem cells can be retrieve from the foetus,
amniotic fluid, the placenta, and the umbilical cord blood and in the early embryo. Adult stem cells
can be retrieved from many other parts of the body once a child has been born and through to
adulthood. Those parts of the body are skin, hair follicles, bone marrow and blood, brain and spinal
cord, the lining of the nose, gut, lung, joint fluid, muscle, fat, menstrual blood and etc. Embryonic
stem cells are pluripotent, which mean they can develop into any of the 220 different body cells while

Leadership in Support of MDGs: Promoting National Security The Millennium Development Goals
represent a commitment by all nations and institutions to eliminate global poverty. The MDGs need to
be emphasized and implemented at all stages and their success is highly dependent on financing the
project. The UN Millennium Project is centered on the belief that .7 percent of rich countries GNP can
provide enough resources to meet the goals. If every developed country followed through with a
timetable to reach the necessary target by 2015, the world could make dramatic progress in the fight
against extreme poverty. At the Monterrey Consensus a statement was made by the United States: we
urge developed countries that have not done so to make concrete efforts towards the target of .7
percent of GNP (Sachs 338). This statement shows that the US is beginning to take leadership in the
efforts to meet the MDGs; however, it seems that we are pointing fingers and not taking the proper
action ourselves. In 2004 our government only provided .14 percent of the GNP, which is well below
the target. The leadership of the United States has much importance because without public and
political support for the development goals, we are not only risking the lives of innocent people but
we are also diminishing our national security and personal

Evaluation Of A Performance Assessment
Evaluation of a Performance Assessment: edTPA James (Monty) Burger Texas A M University
Evaluation of a Performance Assessment: edTPA Teacher effectiveness is of the utmost importance to
ensure student success. However a valid and reliable performance assessment to evaluate teacher
effectiveness has historically remained elusive. Recognizing this need, Stanford University developed
the edTPA (formerly Teacher Performance Assessment) to specifically measure teacher
readiness/effectiveness. The edTPA began field testing in 2009, and has been administered
operationally since 2013. The focus of the edTPA is to assess an authentic cycle of teaching which is

reliability with very positive results. Out of 1,808 portfolios (which were double scored
independently) the scorers assigned either the same or adjacent scores with total agreement in nearly
all cases (93.3%). While that speaks well for the scorer reliability, as far as appropriate sampling for
validation and norming the edTPA appears to fall short. There are several mentions of small sample
sizes and differences in group sizes preventing any strong generalizations or conclusions. Some
sample sizes are as large as several thousand while others fewer than 10, creating the opportunity for
instability. Reliability The next condition that should be closely reviewed when evaluating a
performance assessment is reliability (Rudner, 1994). As discussed above the inter rater reliability for
the edTPA seems to be very reliable. Ten percent of portfolios are randomly double scored to examine
scorer rates, and the results provide evidence of high total agreement. According to the 2014 edTPA
Administrative Report the overall reliability coefficient across all fields was 0.923, indicating a high
level of consistency across the rubrics, establishing that the rubrics as a group are successfully
measuring a common construct of teacher readiness. There was some concern with reliability

In 2007, the Arctic reached a 30 year low for sea ice (University of Colorado at Boulder), because of
global warming or what scientists refer to climate change. Global warming might be the greatest threat
to the future of humanity. Prevention of a global climate shift depends on early detection of human
made effects on climate. The current debate on global warming is divided into three categories: those
who do not believe that the Earth is undergoing a climate change, others that believe the Earth is going
through a climate change due to humans, and some who believe that Earth is going through a climate
change but is not because of human activities. In order to understand the issues we have to look to
scientific data meticulously.

Using this method the air trapped inside the ice can be tested to measure atmospheric gases. The rate
in which temperature has increased over the last few decades is alarming compared to the rate over the
last century. Global surface temperature has increased 0.6 degrees Celsius in the past thirty years, and
0.8 in the last century (Hansen 14288). The significant increase can be directly related to the amount
of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere. For the last 650,000 years atmospheric CO2 has never been
above 300 parts per million (Hansen 14288). From 1950 to today, that number went from 280 to 380
parts per million, and proceeding at a rate unseen for 1,300 years. Direct observations find that CO2 is
rising sharply due to human activity (Cook). The main source of CO2 emissions is the combustion of
fossil fuels such as coal, oil and gas in power plants, automobiles, and industrial facilities (United
States Environmental Protection Agency). It is most evident in the rise of automobiles. Motor vehicles
have been rising by an estimated 3.69 million each year since 1960. Currently there are over 255
million registered passenger vehicles on the road today (U.S Department Of Transportation).

Legal And Ethical Issues Of Human Cloning
Cloning by definition taken from the Oxford Dictionary is a plant or an animal that produced naturally
or artificially from the cells of another plant or animal and so the same as it. The first cloned adult
mammal is a sheep named Dolly. The aim of research into human cloning has never been to clone
people, or to make babies. The original aim of human cloning research is to get stem cell to cure a
disease. It is inevitable that one day this knowledge of human cloning would be abused. As time goes

Body Paragraph 1
The first problem that human cloning encounter is it is one of unethical processes because it involves
the alteration of the human genetic and human may be harmed, either during experimentation or by
expectations after birth. Cloning, like all science, must be used responsibly. Cloning human is not
desirable. But cloning sheep has its uses. , as quoted by Mary Seller, a member of the Church of
England s Board of Social Responsibility (Amy Logston, 1999). Meaning behind this word are
showing us that cloning have both advantages and disadvantages. The concept of cloning is hurting
many human sentiments and human believes. Given the high rates of morbidity and mortality in the
cloning of other mammals, we believe that cloning to produce children would be extremely unsafe,
and that attempts to produce a cloned child would be highly unethical , as quoted by the President s
Council on Bioethics. Since human cloning deals with human life, it said to be unethical if people are
willing to killed embryo or infant to produce a cloned human and advancing on it. The probability of
this process is successful is also small because the technology that being used in this process is still
new and risky.

Contemporary American Class Structure Essay
Contemporary American Class Structure
Social class is defined as people having the same social or economic status (Wordnet). In
contemporary American society, social class is based on the amount of money and property you have
and also prestige. Prestige is given to a person through the line of work or the family that they come
from. For example, upper upper class member Jennifer Lopez reeks of prestige not only because she
has millions of dollars in her bank account, but she has very expensive luxuries, cars, and houses.

Of this group, about 1/3rd belongs to the upper middle class. The annual income of person belonging
to this group is $70 $75,000. The jobs that the typical upper middle class person holds would have a
prestige rating of 65 or higher. 2/3rd?s of the middle class population is the lower middle class. White
collared individuals make up the majority of this class, earning anywhere from $30,000 to $60,000 a
year. Lower middle class Americans have a set standard of priorities. They take pride in the fact that
they are financially stable, and promote hard work, and press on education. Without education, the
members feel that they would not be where they are economically, and preach the importance to their
children so that they, too, can live a lifestyle very similar to that of theirs (Norton).
Working class, mostly blue collar, makes up 20% of the American population. The average annual
income is from poverty level up to $45,000. Members of this group have little to no prestige. This is
partially due to the fact that their income is solely income; they do not have investments. Education
was not always highly preached, but sports for boys were and still are. It is seen as a form of ?moving
up? for their sons (Norton).
Among all the classes, education level, wealth, income and occupation decide which class a person
belongs to (W.W. Norton, Co.). To obtain wealth, income

any diseases a person may have making it more difficult to deal with these losses. Taking a look at
diabetes; diabetes plays a key role in many individuals in the older adult population lives, more than
25% of adults over the age of 65 in America have been diagnosed with diabetes (Kirkman, 2012, p.
2650). This disease alters the rate of which losses are experienced and in turn how the elderly grief
over the loss. Diabetic patients are more likely to experience depression and diabetic patients are more
likely to undergo amputation from limb loss (Spiess, McLemore, Zinyemba, Ortiz Meyr, 2014, p.

Auditor Independence Essay
Abstract. The article reviewed was Role of Independence in Ethics for SMP Accountants. The key of
the abstract is to emphasize the strength of ethics and moral behavior while conducting the audit (pp.
305 306).
Introduction. The author studied professional ethics and auditor independence at small and medium
firms. The researcher compared ethics with values, and laid emphasis on the credibility as one of the
most important ethics element (p. 306). The concept of auditor independence and ethics has
significantly changed for the last century. There was a drastic move toward the neutrality in reporting.
The main objective of research is to analyze two terms independence of mind and independence in
appearance; and examine perceptions of independent auditors (pp. 307 308). The study is important
because it investigates professional ethics as the key of quality assurance services. The researcher
considered two problems of the study: shifts in regulations affect the auditors behavior, and changes in
settings and culture of businesses (p. 305).
Literature Review. The author used a systematic review of literature in the research. The researcher
examined studies of Gill and Cosseral (1996), The Code of Ethics for Professional Accountants, and
Guidance Note on Independence of Auditors to analyze the word independence in depth. The author
stated that the term might bring a lot of confusion (p. 307). The term should emphasize that the
professional is free from financial relationships.

Earn Passive Income Essay
5 Ways You Can Earn Passive Income in College
Everyone knows the trope of the broke college student. They eat ramen every day, can t afford the heat
in the winter time, and have zero disposable income. However, if you re a college student, that doesn t
have to be you. No matter how busy you are with classes and schoolwork, there are ways to earn a
completely passive income.
If you want to make money with little effort, this list is for you. Try out these five ways you can earn
passive income in college, and watch your bank account grow instead of shrink this year.
1. Write an Ebook
Writing and selling an ebook is one of the easiest ways you can earn passive income as a college
student. Gone are the days of large publishing houses and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Find a specific niche to target on your college campus, focus on it, and do it well. A broad travel or
comedy channel has been done to death, and the competition is too strong.
Instead, try creating and marketing your channel to your classmates, faculty, and alumni. A channel
that reviews dining hall food, interviews staff, showcases clubs and events, shares breaking campus
news, or recaps parties are all a good place to start. Of course, the more ridiculous, hilarious, and
entertaining your channel is, the better.
Spend a few hours goofing off with friends and making your videos, spread the word, and as views go
up, your bank account will as well.
3. Invest
Investing requires the largest amount of income on this list, but it also takes the least amount of work.
So, if you have some money in the bank but no time on your hands, this may be the passive income
stream for you.
Investing is a broad term that encapsulates many different options. You can buy a rental property (ok,
that s probably not possible for most college students) but you can also think a little smaller.
Sites like Flippa sell websites and blogs that are already up and running and generating an income.
Spend a day reviewing and purchasing one, and start earning a passive income immediately.
You can also invest in the stock market. Read these inspiring must know investor quotes, and then hit
the ground running.
The great thing about this option is that you ll learn a valuable

addictions, I have treated many clients over the past 17 years using various techniques. I have found
that hard, dedicated work yields good results. While relapse is often a reality in recovery of any
addiction, keeping oneself engaged in continued practice of skills can help create hopeful outcomes.
The 1997 version of the movie Titanic cost over 200 million dollars to produce, however, the movie
eventually grossed over 1.8 billion dollars! Recovery takes a lot of time and energy, but in the long
run, it is well worth it. Like making the movie Titanic, when much is put in, much greater is gained.
(Just don t sink!). Here are a few practical exercises you (or someone you know) can use in the
recovery process that may be helpful. Keep in mind, however that while these may be helpful, they are
not exclusive, nor intended to replace formal counseling. Sponsorship or mentorship is also an integral
aspect to the recovery process: 1. Join in: When geese fly in a V formation, the

  • 2. The Controversy Of Material Displacement The controversy of material displacement, from their primary structural means. Material displacement, absurd formation and facadism, creates discussion, challenges the viewers and provokes polarised opinions. Architects within the current era, are expressive, artistically driven, technologically aided and therefore experimental. These factors have encouraged outrageous designs and statements. The outcomes have provoked controversy, which are expressed through various mediums, such as media, articles, debates and lectures. An architect that has created many controversial buildings, is non other than Frank Gehry. The individual whose works are considered between pragmatic professionalism and radical experimentation. One building that will be further articulated and examined, is the Dr Chau Chak Wing Building, University of Technology Sydney (UTS). A building spawned from a sketch, and an idea of a tree house and as Gehry himself said A growing, learning organism with many branches of thought, some robust and some ephemeral and delicate . The intention of the design was to develop it inside out, which has undoubtedly shaped the branding and marketing efforts of the school. The greatest controversial statement made towards the building, is its absurd and somewhat organic display of a fabric like, brick facade. A facade that has been sculpted in a way that has never been attempted quite like that before. All to achieve the concept of movement , a fabric like quality with a ... These drugs are generally prescribed when a person is diagnosed with a mental illness such as Schizophrenia, Depression, or Attention Deficit Disorder. The sudden rise in number of mental illness diagnoses has led to a rapid increase in the number of prescriptions recommended to patients. Sadly, many of these patients are children who are diagnosed with Attention Deficit Disorder, Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, and Depression. According to Erica Goode, studies indicate that pediatricians and child psychiatrists , are frequently leaning towards the use of psychotropic medication as the treatment of choice for an assortment of mental illnesses and disorders (Goode, Study Finds Jump in Children Taking Psychiatric Drugs ). This acknowledgement solidifies the unsettling norm of children taking prescription drugs daily in an effort to mask their behaviors. Instead of using numerous methods of teaching and parenting to counteract unpleasant or hyperactive behavior, professionals have now employed a different approach by using medicalization to treat emotional and behavioral problems (Mcleod et. al, 54). The problem with this approach is that the behavior is never actually addressed. Instead it s medicated causing children to become zombies or robots rather than living, breathing, human beings, with genuine thoughts, emotions, and behaviors. Like small cities, an airport is comprised of a variety of different systems, facilities, users, and regulations that are all interconnected. This complex and dynamic environment has proven to be taxing on existing infrastructure over the past several decades as passenger enplanements continue to reach record highs with a projected 1 billion passengers set to travel worldwide by 2021 (Price 2011). For airports to achieve these lofty goals, they must tie sustainability initiatives and objectives into the capital improvement budget process which requires coordination with a variety of different stakeholders. This essay aims to explore various best practices that can alleviate existing waste within the airport infrastructure environment in the United States and obstacles that may be encountered while attempting to implement such solutions. It will also formulate arguments for and against the implementation of greener initiatives from various industry stakeholders. The scope of this research primarily focuses on renewable power generation, innovative terminal design, and passenger incentives to make greener choices while traveling. These three components correspond to the critical components that make up the airport system: the source, the experience, and the passenger respectively. • 5. Tomato Plant TOMATO PLANT 1) Seed: Tomato seeds are small, flat and disk shaped and about 1/8 inch wide. They contain two energy storage organs called cotyledons and an embryo encased in a hard outer shell called the seed coat. The seed is the dormant or resting stage of the plant life cycle. When young tomato plants are damaged, they tend to go into a dormant, survival stage in which plant growth is delayed for a while. Frost damage is something to look out for when planting tomatoes early on in the season. Frost damage is marked by tender, dark green spots on the leaves. For this the leaves are arranged on the stem in a way that they are exposed mostly in the sunlight. i) Leaves help in the process of plant cellular respiration. Plant cellular respiration carried out in the daylight is called photorespiration, or light respiration. The plant uses a portion of the oxygen created by photosynthesis. Since the process of photosynthesis produces more oxygen than the plant can use, the excess is released into the air through the stomata, tiny air holes in the leaves. The plant takes its sugars directly from what is being produced by photosynthesis. 5) Food Making: j) Photosynthesis: the process of producing and releasing oxygen in the air. Photosynthesis is performed by the plants to produce their own food. The process of Photosynthesis requires direct sunlight, carbon dioxide and water (H2O). In the process of Photosynthesis, the plants decompose the molecules of hydrogen and carbon dioxide into hydrogen, carbon and oxygen to produce glucose which forms the source of their energy, growth and food. This involves the conversion of stored energy of the sunlight, water and carbon dioxide into glucose which is an organic compound and release oxygen in the process. k) Importance of photosynthesis: Plants are the only living things that produce their own food. ... Pros And Cons Of Television On TV According to Juliet Schor, TV has been considered as a promoter of consumerism or TV is a popular alternative way to costing a lot of spending such as concerts, restaurants, and shopping. Therefore, the more TV a person watches, the more he/she will spend. In other words, what we see on TV every day inflates our sense of what s normal or what s not, and what we should be buying just to look like the lifestyle in TV. Ironically, the lifestyle depicted on TV are far different from the typically Americans lifestyle, because those characters in the TV are upper middle class with glamorous clothing or even the rich people. Besides, watching a lot of TV leads to a significant increase in crime rate. The most important crime is larceny. Because by watching those products on TV made people who didn t have that want to have and led to steal them. Likewise, by watching the TV, people have imbedded themselves in the unbearable lifestyle, which is filled with tennis courts, private planes, swimming pool, private cinema, private gym and separated vacation homes. By seeing these things, people start to feel the need to spend more than what they should, and care less about the consequences they re about to face. The real question is if you think it should stay or be abolished. The death penalty is needed and shouldn t be revoked in any of the states that support it. Capital punishment, or the death penalty, is one of the oldest forms of punishments. Some of the ways societies used to kill people was: boiling to death, hanging, and decapitation. Today some countries still use these methods, however here in the United States capital punishment is mainly death by lethal injection, electric chair, or firing squad. The death penalty should be in place for three reasons. The first being the religious aspect, the deterrent of crime, and the overcrowding as well as the cost. The United States is as close as you can be to a theocracy without being one. When Bradbury wrote this novel, he was concerned that television would drown out literature in the future as it became more popular. • 24. Essay on Optical Fiber Corp Case Analysis Case Analysis: Optical Fiber Corporation Introduction Optical Fiber Corporation (OFC) is a financially successful, albeit relatively small manufacturer of multimode optical fibers. The company was founded in 1990. The founders were able to enter the market largely on the basis of acquiring patent licenses from larger optical fiber firms. These licenses restricted competition between the entities and provided OFC with instant access to optical fiber technology. In return, OFC s customer base is limited by the license agreements and royalties of 7% on sales of licensed products (recently renegotiated to 9%) are paid to the licensors. Despite these handicaps the firm has grown in size and profitability. OFC makes several types ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... New firms entering the market will be free to produce the products once protected under those patents without having incurred any R and D costs. These firms will also be free from royalty payments to licensors or any restrictive covenants such as those under which OFC operates. The industry in general, and OFC in particular, must contend with the purchasing power of its buyers. Optical fiber is converted into optical fiber cable. In the United States there are twenty companies that perform this function. OFC sells over 70% of their fiber to just three. The loss of any of these accounts could be devastating for OFC and places them in a weak position when negotiating prices, at least when the products are those which are readily available from other multimode fiber producers. It is doubtful that switching costs would be high for buyers. Favoring OFC and the optical fiber market are the projections for increased demand for multimode optical fibers at least through the mid 2000 s. Sources of increased demand for multimode fiber are anticipated to include: cable TV, undersea cables, local area networks (LAN) as well as general data communications growth such as computer uses. As noted the single mode optical fiber market is much larger than the multimode market. It too, is expected to see significant growth over the next several years. Single mode fibers ... • 25. Examples Of Romanticism In Frankenstein Another aspect of romanticism that is prevalent in Shelly s novel is the way Frankenstein, and his creation, are controlled by their emotions. Frankenstein is continually ruled by his feelings of fear, guilt, and love throughout the novel. For instance, he works for nearly two years to accomplish his goal of creating life, only to immediately flee because of fear when his work comes to life. This was a major illustration for the reader that despite being an experienced scientist Frankenstein was still ruled by emotions. In a large portion of the novel Frankenstein seems to be completely motivated by his fear of the creature he created. When his brother died, he feared people discovering his secret so he let an innocent woman stand trial. When the monster requested a partner, his fear of the monster propelled him to try, only to have his fear of having two creatures alive stop him from completing the work. At the end of the story, Frankenstein s anger over the death of his family members propelled him to chase the creature across the frozen waters, which lead to his death. Frankenstein was a brilliant thinker who was continually consumed and motivated by his emotions. Frankenstein s creation was also very much controlled by his emotions. After he is created and Frankenstein flees from him, he searches across the land to find companions. If every developed country followed through with a timetable to reach the necessary target by 2015, the world could make dramatic progress in the fight against extreme poverty. At the Monterrey Consensus a statement was made by the United States: we urge developed countries that have not done so to make concrete efforts towards the target of .7 percent of GNP (Sachs 338). This statement shows that the US is beginning to take leadership in the efforts to meet the MDGs; however, it seems that we are pointing fingers and not taking the proper action ourselves. While that speaks well for the scorer reliability, as far as appropriate sampling for validation and norming the edTPA appears to fall short. There are several mentions of small sample sizes and differences in group sizes preventing any strong generalizations or conclusions. Some sample sizes are as large as several thousand while others fewer than 10, creating the opportunity for instability.
