The War With Great Britain For Their Independence
The year is 1775 and the American Colonies are at war with Great Britain for their Independence. The
Continental Congress would soon sign an article into law, which would authorize the construction of
the Navy of the United Colonies of North America. Article 16 of this bill stated that A convenient
place shall be set apart for sick or hurt men, to be removed with their hammocks and bedding when
the surgeon shall advise the same to be necessary: and some of the crew shall be appointed to attend to
and serve them and to keep the place clean. The cooper shall make buckets with covers and cradles if
necessary for their use. Little did they know that this would be the inception of the Hospital
Corpsman. A military organization that would soon ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The description stated: The surgeon shall be allowed a faithful attendant to issue, under his direction,
all supplies and provisions and hospital stores, and to attend the preparation of nourishment for the
sick. The surgeon s mates shall be particularly careful in directing the loblolly boy to keep the cockpit
clean, and every article therein belonging to the Medical Department. The surgeon shall prescribe for
casual cases on the gun deck every morning at 9 o clock, due notice having been previously given by
his loblolly boy by ringing of a bell, (History of Hospital). The name and responsibilities of the rate
would change several times through the 18th century, with titles like apothecary, nurse, and bay man
the person responsible for taking care of the sick and injured in the sick bay. With the outbreak of the
civil war in 1861, naval vessels were ordered to have at least 2 nurses per every 200 men and we also
built the first ship just to take care of the sick and injured, the USS Red Rover. The medical crew of
the USS Red Rover consisted of 30 surgeons, 30 nurses, and 4 nuns. This ship has also been
immortalized at Recruit Training Command Great Lakes as the sick hall serving all new navy recruits

Spanish American War, Congress spurred into action passing a bill which was signed by President
William McKinley. From this date forward any enlisted

The Discovery Of A Stranger s Personal Space
Proximity can be defined as nearness in space, time, or relationship. There are many terms and or
phrases used to describe proximity such as personal space, soul space, bubble, comfort zone, too close
for comfort, grill, invasion of privacy, etc. In this assignment we were asked to invade a stranger s
personal space and record their reaction to this event. I went to a neighborhood Starbucks and
proceeded to invade the personal space of a stranger sitting at a table with his laptop. I also tried
talking within close proximity of someone just to see their reaction, but the results of the Starbucks
experiment brought about greater output. After church on Sunday, November 22, 2015 at 2:16pm I
walked into the Starbucks located at 1830 N Federal Hwy, Boca Raton, FL 33432. I walked up to the
counter and ordered a triple shot of espresso with 3 raw sugars, and a tall cup of ice with splash of soy
milk. Once I received my order I walked to the condiments table near the door and began to mix my
drink. I stirred the sugar into the espresso and then poured it over the cup of iced soy milk. There was
a man who appeared to be of Caucasian decent sitting alone at one of the tables, he was on his laptop
with his cup next to him and a notebook. He was so wrapped up in his work that he didn t even notice
me walking up. I pulled out the chair next to him and sat down. Prior to myself sitting down I
privately hypothesized that it would take this man a couple seconds to realize what was going

Meursault s The Stranger
The elaborate synthesis of light and reflection yields the mise en abyme of truth, persistently
developing the core of The Stranger. Creating a contrast and a balance between intensity of action and
the mundane, chapter two is slow paced compared to the abundance of narrative voice transpiring
chapter one. Chapter two is an initiation into the world of Meursault s quotidian reality of emerging
salient features of Meursault s world. The novel creates motion in the whole world and achieves a
density of effect in the process. Even after a rather dull and eventless Sunday, Meursault still manages
to end the chapter with a discomforting remark, almost as if he were to remind reader of his existential
presence. After his structured and mechanical ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

he is expected to return to his norms from the society though being drawn into a whirlpool of life. [He

Descriptive Essay About Lombok
Magnificent Lombok
I had my holiday on 29th of December 3rd of January 2017. My destination is Lombok because there
are many beautiful beaches there. I went to Lombok by plane. I went there with my family. The
activities I ve tried there are very fun to do.
At the first day, we stayed in a hotel near Senggigi named Coconut. The resort has a beautiful views
and the building material is all wooden. I love the facilities there, mainly the Wi Fi and the swimming
pool. First, we went to Senggigi Beach. It s quite beautiful but there are many seaweeds and I don t
like it. Then we went to Nipah to have dinner. The dinner is all seafood and grilled fish. Then we went
through to Malimbu Hill, that s very long drive. But I got many knowledge from ... Show more

In brief, I enjoyed Lombok very much. Lombok has many destinations to visit, and adventures to do. I
especially love the beaches. They are many beautiful beaches like Kuta, Senggigi, Nipah, and others.
The activities are also fun like the fabric weaving, snorkeling, and other sea activities. But i hate
snorkelling to the deep water because I m afraid of getting bitten by the fish.
My suggestions for you who love sea activities, you should try snorkeling in Gili Trawangan, Gili
Meno, and Gili Air. Because they are many beautiful fish and coral reefs, other fun activities like
giving food to the fish and visited many fish points like turtle points and Manta points. And for the
food, you should eat the Gelato because it s really yummy. And for those who like spicy foods, you
should try Plecing Kangkung, Taliwang Chicken and Rembiga Satay. And don t forget to eat Grilled
Fish in Nipah.
For the cultural activities, you should visit the Clay Factory. You will see the beautiful clay there and
you will learn how to make the clay. Also, you should visit the weaving fabric station. You will learn
how to weave the fabric. There are all

Difference Between Physical Health And Mental Health
Health is a state of complete physical, mental and social well being and not merely the absence of
disease or infirmity. WHO definition of health.
This definition has not been amended since 1948.
Health can be broadly studied as Physical Health and Mental Health.
Physical Health: For most people, physical health implies good body health which is achieved with
regular exercise, good nutrition and the required amount of rest. Physical wellbeing is defined as
something a person can achieve by improving all health related aspects in his/her lifestyle. Major
components of complete physical wellbeing may include proper diet, bodyweight management, being
away from drugs, avoiding alcohol abuse, responsible sexual behaviour (sexual health), hygiene, and
getting the right amount of sleep.
Mental Health: Mental health refers to people s cognitive and emotional well being. According to
WHO, mental health is a state of well being in which the individual realizes his or her own abilities,
can cope with the normal stresses of life, can work productively and fruitfully, and is able to make a
contribution to his or her community . It is equally agreed that mental health includes the ability to ...

Why Do We Need Effective Classroom Management
Teachers often wonder how to execute the ideal lesson, what structure should they adopt and how to
ensure that all their students cooperate. What we need to recognise is what classroom management is
and how much does student behavior factor? Why is it significant? What strategies does my mentor
use to establish classroom management within the class? If we know the behaviour of our students,
what do we need to do to ensure that effective classroom management is successfully acquired? All
these questions need to be answered as they all link towards a successful lesson and student
cooperation.
During my two weeks of placement, I was placed at St Albans Primary School in a prep class.
Considering that these students are at a young age, they are in a position where they are still
developing skills and are in the process of becoming mature, therefore classroom management is
crucial. In the class that I was in, students would often cause trouble with other members of the class,
they are easily distracted and overall difficult to handle. Being that I am a pre service teacher, they
often took advantage of me while I conducted the class, they would do the events explained above,
and this is due to the lack of classroom management and my ability to maintain student behaviour.
This led to students not understanding the task at hand and the overall focus of the lesson was not
acquired. It is crucial that classroom management is maintained, without a theoretical approach to
classroom

The Myth Of The Cherokee Indians
There are many religions in this world and many creation myths that accompany those religions. Each
religion has its own unique viewpoint on how the world came to be. The Cherokee myth I have chosen
is something that may seem outrageous to the outsider, but it is how the Cherokee Indians have
viewed their creation for many years.
The Cherokee believed that before their world as they know it began, it was just water. All the animals
lived in a land called Galun lati that was above the water (in the sky), but it was overcrowded. A water
beetle, named Dayuni si, volunteered to explore the water beneath them. Dayuni si was unable to find
solid ground on the surface of the water, but dove below the surface and only found mud. The beetle
brought the mud to the water s surface and it began to grow and spread out. This mud became the
Earth, as the Cherokee Indians knew it. Later the Earth was tied to the sky with a string at each of the
corners ( Native American Myths of Creation ). The Earth was too wet so the animals sent the Great
Buzzard from Galun lati and told him to go and make it ready for them. He flew all around the land,
but it was still soft. By the time he had traveled to Cherokee country, he was tired as his wings flapped
the ground, they created mountains and valleys. The animals concluded that the land was too dark so
they made the sun and gave it a path to travel on each day from the east to the west. After the plants
and animals, humans were created. They

The Golden Era Of Hip Hop Was A Period In The 80S And Early
The Golden Era of Hip Hop was a period in the 80s and early 90s characterized by its diversity,
innovation, and cultural influence. Hip Hop is considered to have been born in 1973, in South Bronx,
New York by Jamaican born Kool DJ Herc (Blanchard, B, 1999). He used a turntable technique at a
Halloween party, which eventually became extremely popular at every party scene. The term
breakdancing came to life shortly after. Rhymes over hip hop music, also known as rap, began first as
a commentary of the ability of the DJ. MCs introduced DJs and their songs. This rhythmic music
produced by DJs at parties combined with an increase of break dancers, graffiti artists, and importance
of MCs, created what we know today as the culture of hip hop. ... Show more content on

Rap was called the black CNN by rapper Chuck D because they were reporting issues within the inner
city community through mainstream media. This idea of rap as the black CNN can be seen from the
descendance of rapper as griots. Griots were the keepers and purveyors of of knowledge, which
included tribal history, family lineage, news of birth and death, and war (Blanchard, B, 1999). Rappers
create songs that through performance and recordings, allows it to spread worldwide about their lives,
dreams, and discontents. They are the voice of poor, urban African American youth whose lives are
usually misrepresented or dismissed by mainstream media. Rappers become the keepers of
contemporary African American working class history and concerns.
Public Enemy s lyrics were dissected by critics in light of Chuck D s statement. Their song called
Fight the Power, recorded in 1989, caused uproar because of the blunt attacks of celebrities such as
Elvis Presley and John Wayne. They called these two celebrities out on being racist instead of being a
hero to them, Public Enemy or it could be generalized to the black community, as they were to
everyone else. This song created a unified message that could apply to everyone, not just the African
American community. Beneath the lyrics lie powerful messages about history and politics. When
people listen and don t understand the lyrics, it causes them to maybe want to do research to be more
informed. Rappers such

The Issue Of Simmering California
Simmering California In a recent survey by the University of Southern California nearly 75 percent of
voter state that relations between people of different races were good or excellent in their own
neighborhoods (Abrams). Yet these same participants agree that black men and woman face more
discrimination than any other race. Though racial discrimination in California has mitigated
considerably over the years it is still a major problem. The peak of racial tensions occurred early on in
California s past. The Gold rush was a difficult time for immigrants in California. Many came in
search of prosperity and instead found a place full of rules and regulations specifically designed to
place them at a disadvantage. The many Chinese immigrants arriving at this time faced extreme
racism. insert lisa see quote here Many Chinese miners had to pay unbelievable foreign mining taxes
on top of having to mine mostly in abandoned mining grounds. To make ends meet they took on jobs
as cooks, launders, and other jobs. They were paid low wages and had to face discriminatory hiring
practices. The sudden flood of people caused tensions between the natives and the miners to rise.
Miners were invading and destroying native lands. Out of desperation, the Native Americans began
pillaging mining camps for supplies. Incensed by the raids, miners began to hunt down the indigenous
population and were often time supported by the government. The situation never really improved
since then. In

Summary OfAll Summer In A Day By Ray Bradbury
In the story, All Summer in a Day, Ray Bradbury draws us in, as readers, with a story that takes place
on the planet Venus. The environment of Venus is as described in this quote, It had been raining for
seven years; thousands upon thousands of days compounded and filled from one end to the other with
rain, with the gush and gush of water...fall of showers and the concussion of storms so heavy they
were tidal waves come over the islands... (Bradbury, 1954) With an environment like this, what type
of people would those on Venus be if they had never felt, saw, or experienced the sun before? The only
one that has experienced and remembers the sun is a young girl, Margot. Margot lived on Earth until
she was four years old, unlike the others who have been living underground in Venus for their entire
lives. Because of this, Margot is constantly facing problems regarding her classmates jealousy of her
past opportunities. Without the sun, she has become, as Bradbury writes, ...a very frail girl who looked
as if she had been lost in the rain for years and the rain had washed out the blue from her eyes and the
red from her mouth and the yellow from her hair. She was an old photograph dusted from an album,
whitened away, and if she spoke at all her voice would be a ghost. (1954, Bradbury) In this short story
by Bradbury, the theme is that jealousy and ignorance can blind us from seeing things how they really
are. This is shown time after time when Margot is harassed, depressed, and isolated because of her
classmates jealousy. To begin, a way that Bradbury shows us that jealousy and ignorance can shield a
person from the truth is through the main character, Margot, who is constantly being harassed by her
classmates. The only reason Margot s classmates harass her is because she remembers the sun. This
makes her different from all the others, who have lived here on Venus since birth. In this way, they are
uneducated or ignorant because they have never experienced the sun. Because she is different, the
classmates take every chance they have to harass her in any way they can. Right before the sun came
out, one of the rare events that Margot was greatly looking forward to, the classmates ...surged about

Programming Languages Research Paper
Programming languages are our way to speak to computers. From Lisp to Go to Java, programmers
have had more flexibility and productivity with high level programming languages. Programming
languages have changed and evolved throughout the history of computer science. Programmers have
learned to adapt to programming languages, such as assembly language, however more programming
languages are being created that give users more control. The future of programming languages will
continue to contribute to the growth of computer science and understanding of computation.

Instead, there should be a set of instructions to control the simplified hardware that would improve the
speed of the system. The second concept is conditional control transfer which means that small blocks
of code can be reused and jumped to in different orders. It gave rise to the if/then statements and for
loops we use in everyday programming today. In addition, libraries were formed which are blocks of
code that can be reused over and over again. Both of these concepts gave rise to the modern day Von
Neumann programming languages, which include C, C++ and Java.
At this time, still in 1945, German engineer Konrad Zuse designed the first high level non Von
Neumann programming language Plankakul (Calculus of Programs). This was unique in history as it
was developed at the same time John Von Neumann came out with his two concepts, but it used his
own constructs and logic. The Plankakul language was not a huge success at the time, but it showed us
many of the same modern day features of a programming language. For example, the features of the
language was that it is a high level programming language, has reusable functions, uses no recursion,
is a typed language, and there is a WHILE construct for iteration. The language was developed
independently of Von Neumann s ideas, but it still came up with similar concepts and influenced
modern programming languages.

Contributions Of The Pension System
A defined contribution (DC) scheme on the other hand is a pension plan whose value depends on an
individual s own contributions, those from his/her employer and the government; generally in the form
of a tax relief. These contributions are reinvested in the stock market and upon retirement, the
accumulated value of the fund is received and can be used to secure a pension income. A choice is
usually made to either purchase an annuity (a product which offers a guaranteed income for life), used
as a drawback (reinvesting the fund value in the stock market from which income can be drawn when
needed) or a mixture of both. It is also worth noting that a maximum of 25% of the pension fund is
available for withdrawal as a Tax free lump sum ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The inequalities experienced (for example married couples earning higher state pension than
unmarried people and women generally allocated to a lower State pension than men) under the current
system have led to these general low levels of savings for retirement. According to the Office of
National Statistics (ONS), it is projected that about 36% of the population born in 2013 will live past
the age of 100 as compared to the 1940 s where mortality was estimated at 68years . These constant
and gradual improvement in longevity estimates, will give rise to a higher ageing population being
formed relative to a lower increase in working population. Consequently all current tax incomes to the
government will not be sufficient to be pay the retirement income for the aging population, hence
increasing the burden on the government to finance the ageing as it cannot sustain the pension system.
The complex nature in estimating one s retirement earnings characterised by additional benefits
reward for long term services, alongside the increasing dependence on means tested benefits, has led
to a general misunderstanding of the current pension scheme. Over the years, this has prevented many
people from knowing and deciding on how and why they should save towards their retirement and has
often led to people not saving at all. The state pension is unfunded. Under the current pension system,
it was realised that all

Allyson Wells Effects of News Media
The effects or the news media in today s culture is tremendous. We use the news media not only to

today s world. This information is provided to us through the use of sources such as television news,
radio and more and more the internet. These forms of information find themselves in a constant and

The divisiveness of these practices can be tremendous. Personally, I tend to get my information from
several sources, analyze the data, and then come to a rational conclusion as to what I believe the truth
to be. This approach has allowed me to look through the partisan viewpoint, allowing me to see the
bias in the everyday reporting.
Media Convergence
The convergence of media, especially the more traditional media sources taking to the internet, has
been both a blessing and a curse. The ability to report on anything in the world at a moment s notice
has transformed the idea of journalism. The reporters of today are of no resemblance of the reporters
of the past. The folks who would spend weeks tracking down information and sources for a story now
spend moments at a laptop accomplishing what they consider to be the same thing. This has caused
the current news media to have issues with both integrity and accuracy. In the past, reporters would
spend ample amounts of time gathering information, forming their thoughts, and writing the article.
Even with the amount of time they spent on this process, there was even more time allotted for
checking and double checking their facts to ensure the accuracy and morality of the story. Today s
journalists have posted articles just moments after an event. This can be helpful in many ways, but
also harmful. The immediate gratification of posting an article negates any thought about

Indian Names And Mascots Essay
There has been an ongoing argument since the 1960 s on whether Indian names and mascots should be
used in sports. Critics feel that the use of Indian related images and names make fun of the Native
American Indians. On the other hand, activists for the Indian tribes state that the use of Indian names

essay is to determine if schools should stop using Native American images as mascots. The newspaper
article called Controversy over Indian names, mascots in sports dated June 10, 2009 talks about two
teams, the Florida State Seminoles and the Washington Redskins. The NCAA (National Collegiate
Athletic Association) tried to get rid of the name Seminoles from the Florida State University football
team. But, the Seminole Chief himself, approved the use of Native American symbols and traditions
during the Florida state football games. There has also been a lot of support for the Washington

Optical Distortion Harvard Business Case
I. Executive summary:
A. Problem statement: Optical Distortion Inc.(ODI) is a small new company, not yet in business, with
a patent for an innovative product designed to prevent chickens from cannibalism behaviors toward
each other. These lenses are used instead of traditional way of debeaking. ODI must develop
marketing strategies about targeting, positioning and optimal pricing to launch its new product.
B. Recommendation: The dilemma ODI faces is whether introduce its product at a higher price and

potential competitors.
D. Conclusions: ODI has sufficient evidence to target large farms have 50,000 chickens or over, and
focus on market in California and south Atlantic region in the short term and set an initial high price of
about $0.28 per pair. Although it may appear that ODI may have risk of introducing new products, this
option is actually safest and most profitable for expected sales and penetration. Risk of reluctance to
acceptance new technology, low trained salesforce and new competitors in the future may lead this
strategy less efficient. It is suggested that ODI decrease the selling price of the lenses in the long term
and focus on improving the quality and services and build a solid premium brand image in order to
guarantee market share in the future. It would be better to find multiple ways of advertising and
increasing the customers awareness and accessibility of products.

Fairy Tales Develop Literacy and Imagination in Children
Fairy tales are not only a source of cultural literacy for children but also a means of developing
imagination and a sense of curiosity about the world. Thus, They are a primary source of child
development. They teach children how to handle fear and most importantly, teach young girls about
the transition from childhood to sexual adulthood. Thus, these stories form the norms of the societies
in which children develop. Reading or listening to fairy tales, children slowly develop a sense of
gender role and learn how they are supposed to act in society. It is said that a beautiful girl needs to
obey by doing domestic work and learn to act like a lady so that one day she can find a man and get
married.
1. in Cinderella: Or the Glass Slipper by Charles Perrault, it is said that Cinderella is beautiful and ....
and is hated by her stepmother and stepsisters because of her beauty. Thus, the stepmother makes her
do all the domestic work, such as cleaning and prohibits her from any privileges that the stepsisters
might have.
When it is announced that the prince is holding a ball to find himself a wife, it is evident that
Cinderella cannot attend. This shows how the female power of the antagonist represses the heroine s
development into sexual adulthood. With the ultimate goal of every female in fairy tales of getting
married, due to her stepmother s and thus stepsister s hatred, Cinderella is deprived from that

Meaning Of Psalm 139
SIM #7 Psalm 139 Genre: The genre of Psalm 139 is Hebrew poetry, simply because the psalms were
written in Hebrew and are a collection of poems and laments. The first principle of interoperation is
that the psalms blend experience, emotion, and theology. This should be taken into account while
reading the poem in order that the reader does not simply skip over the theology by only focusing on
experience and emotion. The second interoperation principle is that each psalm should be read as a
whole. Verses of psalms should not be taken out of context, in doing this the reader may distort the
meaning of the psalm. Another interpretation principle to take into consideration is the different genres
of psalms such as: laments, thanksgiving, hymns of praise, wisdom, and songs of trust. With that being
said, Psalm 139 not only falls under the Hebrew poetry genre, but is also classified as a psalm of trust.
Lastly, the fourth interpretation principle is that parallelisms are used. In other words, ideas correlate
in many different ways such as: synonymously, antithesis, intensifying, specifying, and synthetically.
Grammatical/Literacy: Why does David specify that God will hold him with his right hand? What is
the depths and does this refer to hell?

Investment Case Study
Do the circumstances surrounding the sale of the Collinsville plant play any role in your willingness to
buy the assets? If so, how, if not, why not?
On the one hand, the circumstances of the sale make me less willing to buy. In particular, both
Universal and the federal government think that American s acquisition creates antitrust issues. If this
is the case, American could use its market power to change the nature of the market and make Dixon s
new plant unprofitable by setting lower prices for sodium chlorate in its other plants. On the other
hand, the circumstances make me more willing to buy the assets because American has to divest the
plant to comply with a court order. Therefore, they have less leverage during the sale ... Show more

With these assumptions, the present value of the total cash flows value the plant at $7.9M.[5] Under
this valuation, the $12M offer seems high and that Dixon should not make the investment without the
laminate technology. Even if we relax the assumptions and use the lower end WACC in our range of
14.5% and assume that capital expenditures will be the low end of the range at $475k per annum after
1984, the deal at $12M would still be dilutive because the DCF value is still only $8.9M.[6] At the
other extreme, assuming a WACC of 18.5% and capital expenditures of $600k per annum, the plant is
only worth $7.5M.
While the model above does not account for the return of working capital at the end of year in 1989,
the discounted value of this working capital is only worth about $650k and therefore does not
substantially alter the analysis.
Given this analysis, the deal is dilutive and Dixon should not make the investment.
2) Evaluate the marginal impact of the laminate technology (i.e. net present value of the costs savings
and expenses assuming that without laminate, graphite costs go up 5% per year after 1984 and power
costs rise 12% after 1984).
The laminate technology requires an upfront capital expenditure of $2.25M that can be straight line
depreciated over 10 years. This laminate will eliminate graphite costs completely and reduce power
costs by 15 20%. Assuming the

Role Of Boxer In Animal Farm
The allegorical novella, titled Animal Farm, was written by George Orwell, and expresses the 18th
century Industrial Revolution. During this time, Russia was renamed the Soviet Union, and replaced
as a communist nation because of being overthrown by Russian civilians, who assassinated Czar
Nicholas the II. The novel uses animals to represent the population of people, with some animals even
becoming and acting as leaders during this economic development. At the Manor Farm, the animals
rebel and win against their indefatigable human owner, Mr. Jones; however, a cryptic pig named
Napoleon takes the leadership role. As the farm struggles to make a utopian society, Boxer, a horse, is
depicted as an animal who is a peasant, and represents the working class during the difficult time.
Boxer is displayed variously as a persevering, devoted, and influential animal, that would expose the
Manor Farm of many flaws if he were not present and working.
Boxer is revealed in the text to be persevering, and an animal who will give every ounce of energy,
when it seems as though he has everything against him. After his hoof had healed up, Boxer worked
harder than ever...sometimes the long hours of insufficient food were hard to bear but Boxer never
faltered (74). This exemplifies that, Boxer is persistent, to the point where he will even work while he
is still recovering from a brutal hoof injury. This also shows that, Boxer, although lacking valuable
nutrients, will work through the pain of

Essay on The Role of Poetry in Narrative Prose of the...
If I happen to encounter poetry imbedded within prose, I tend to either skip over it, scan it, or
otherwise read it as quickly as possible if it seems uninteresting. I am almost shamed to admit that my
reading habits hold no exception for traditional Japanese literature, although I guess I am forced to go
back and actually read them thoroughly now, since that happens to be the topic of this paper. First of
all, I can grasp the meaning of the poem if it is obvious enough in context. For someone unfamiliar
with Japanese literature, history, language, etc., it is difficult to understand, let alone recognize the
allusions present. Luckily, Royall Tyler was kind enough to footnote a good majority of the poems for
the inexperienced readers ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A deep seated sorrow is felt at the loss of her companionship. Yes, yes, it is all very moving and pretty,
until one realizes that this is Narihira we are reading about. In the short time I have spent with him and
Genji, I have come to develop a distinct dislike for these two characters, which makes me biased
against anything involving them, especially their poetry. Just the thought of this poetry being
composed by such people, fictional or not, instantly makes it unappealing. Actual correspondence
between the men and women in these tales through poetry is even worse; having that as the only form
of communication between them seems frustrating. More often than not in its romantic role in stories,
poetry only serves to foster wrongful feelings, inciting misplaced passions that lead to shameful
misdeeds. I suppose society was simply like that at the time and I should give in and accept it for what
it was and be happy that that is not the modern convention. Perhaps it is an ancient form of the current
interpreting the text message? Moving on to poetry in a different type of narrative, the Tosa Diary is
filled with poetry unconcerned with romantic relationships, comprised of farewells, statements, and
descriptions of the strange and horrifying new sights they encounter on the sea bound voyage. Many
of them convey melancholic sentiments to their lost loved ones or for fear for

Iago Character Analysis
William Shakespeare was born in 1564. Very little is known about his personal life but he is one of the
most well known authors in history. One of his famous works is Othello. There are many key
characters in the play but there is one that plays a major key role in what happens and that is Iago. He
is a supposed to be Othello s best friend but as the play goes on, his true colors begin to show. No
other character can even come close to his evil. Most of the characters in the play have a reason for
what they do. Iago lies and manipulates the characters of the play because he is a very ruthless man.
Shakespeare does a very good job in showing what kind of person Iago is right from the beginning of
the play. The reader begins to realize this before any of the characters in the play do. I believe he did
this so the reader will begin to see how evil Iago is yet how unjustified his reasoning is. Iago is the
main reason there is conflict in Othello. I feel as if he had not entered the play Othello would have
married Desdemona and they would have lived happily ever after. Right from the beginning of the
play to the very end he causes conflicts. He is responsible for the deaths of Othello, Desdemona,
Emilia, Cassio, and Roderigo. Which happen to all be the main characters. All the problems he causes
are through lies, manipulation, and a deep unknown hate. Some of his hate is fueled by jealousy and
revenge. The ironic part is that he wants to be known as honest Iago . Every act

Assisted Living Facility: While a longer term investment with rental income and no sales in the short
term, the assisted living option provided a profitable opportunity given Fort Myers demographics. It
would be cheaper and most likely faster to build compared to congregate housing and had a large
market in Fort Myers.
While it is probably not feasible to capture the full potential gross income from a congregate care
facility given the higher price and time to sell, tables 1 and 2 below attempt to compare the PGI in the
first year of rent/sale from a congregate care and assisted living facility. If all units were sold within
the first year (which is highly unlikely), a congregate care facility would provide more cash upfront
with a smaller amount of monthly income moving forward. However, the assisted living facility has a
higher annual PGI after the first year. Ideally, assuming a market was available for congregate care, it
would take roughly 20 years for the income from assisted living to reach the income received from
congregate care.

Summary Of Death Of A Moth By Virginia Woolf
In ¨The Death of a Moth¨ by Virginia Woolf, Woolf writes about how she observes a moth´s death.
Throughout the essay Woolf had a complex attitude towards the moth. In order to establish her
depressing, hopeless, and desperate tone, she uses symbolism, imagery, juxtaposition, and syntax.
Virginia Woolf utilized imagery to make the reader comprehend that the moth´s battle with death was
homogeneous to her battle with her bipolar tendencies and depression. In the fourth paragraph, ¨He
was trying to resume his dancing, but seemed either so stiff or so awkward.....and when he tried to fly
across it he failed,¨ Woolf illustrates the struggle of the moth. The moth makes many attempts to fly
again, but it unfortunately fails. This makes the reader

The eighteenth amendment established prohibition, which was the banning of the manufacturing and

America. When the eighteenth amendment was established, many people supported prohibition
because of the social benefits. The Church supported prohibition because many Christians saw
drinking as a sin. Many business men supported prohibition, because this would reduce the amount of
absences at work and would increase production and efficiency. Furthermore, many social reformers

Amphetamines For Kids Research Paper
Amphetamines for Kids
ADD/ADHD is a disease that affects many children in the U.S. Most who are diagnosed with the
disease take prescription amphetamines (Hitt). The name amphetamine can be very intimidating, as it
is normally associated with the extremely addictive, and illegal drug, methamphetamine. Many
parents are worried about their children taking these drugs and how they will be affected (Boorady).
Scientists and doctors are currently conducting research on the long term and short term side effects of
these medications (Long Term). As a result, there is much controversy over how ADHD medication
affects a child s body. When a child is diagnosed with ADD/ADHD, most medical professionals
prescribe a amphetamine to help the child with his symptoms. These drugs increase the levels of
dopamine in the brain. Dopamine is a neurotransmitter that the body naturally produces for movement
and attentiveness. When the brain is flooded with dopamine, the body reacts with a feeling of
euphoria. The feeling of euphoria is the body s way of feeling pleasure (Methylphenidate).

  • 2. The War With Great Britain For Their Independence The year is 1775 and the American Colonies are at war with Great Britain for their Independence. The Continental Congress would soon sign an article into law, which would authorize the construction of the Navy of the United Colonies of North America. Article 16 of this bill stated that A convenient place shall be set apart for sick or hurt men, to be removed with their hammocks and bedding when the surgeon shall advise the same to be necessary: and some of the crew shall be appointed to attend to and serve them and to keep the place clean. The cooper shall make buckets with covers and cradles if necessary for their use. Little did they know that this would be the inception of the Hospital Corpsman. A military organization that would soon ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The description stated: The surgeon shall be allowed a faithful attendant to issue, under his direction, all supplies and provisions and hospital stores, and to attend the preparation of nourishment for the sick. The surgeon s mates shall be particularly careful in directing the loblolly boy to keep the cockpit clean, and every article therein belonging to the Medical Department. The surgeon shall prescribe for casual cases on the gun deck every morning at 9 o clock, due notice having been previously given by his loblolly boy by ringing of a bell, (History of Hospital). The name and responsibilities of the rate would change several times through the 18th century, with titles like apothecary, nurse, and bay man the person responsible for taking care of the sick and injured in the sick bay. With the outbreak of the civil war in 1861, naval vessels were ordered to have at least 2 nurses per every 200 men and we also built the first ship just to take care of the sick and injured, the USS Red Rover. The medical crew of the USS Red Rover consisted of 30 surgeons, 30 nurses, and 4 nuns. This ship has also been immortalized at Recruit Training Command Great Lakes as the sick hall serving all new navy recruits (History of Hospital). June 17th, 1897 the Hospital Corps as we know it was born, after fear of a Spanish American War, Congress spurred into action passing a bill which was signed by President William McKinley. • 3. The Discovery Of A Stranger s Personal Space Proximity can be defined as nearness in space, time, or relationship. There are many terms and or phrases used to describe proximity such as personal space, soul space, bubble, comfort zone, too close for comfort, grill, invasion of privacy, etc. In this assignment we were asked to invade a stranger s personal space and record their reaction to this event. I went to a neighborhood Starbucks and proceeded to invade the personal space of a stranger sitting at a table with his laptop. I also tried talking within close proximity of someone just to see their reaction, but the results of the Starbucks experiment brought about greater output. After church on Sunday, November 22, 2015 at 2:16pm I walked into the Starbucks located at 1830 N Federal Hwy, Boca Raton, FL 33432. I walked up to the counter and ordered a triple shot of espresso with 3 raw sugars, and a tall cup of ice with splash of soy milk. Once I received my order I walked to the condiments table near the door and began to mix my drink. I stirred the sugar into the espresso and then poured it over the cup of iced soy milk. There was a man who appeared to be of Caucasian decent sitting alone at one of the tables, he was on his laptop with his cup next to him and a notebook. He was so wrapped up in his work that he didn t even notice me walking up. I pulled out the chair next to him and sat down. Prior to myself sitting down I privately hypothesized that it would take this man a couple seconds to realize what was going ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Meursault s The Stranger The elaborate synthesis of light and reflection yields the mise en abyme of truth, persistently developing the core of The Stranger. Creating a contrast and a balance between intensity of action and the mundane, chapter two is slow paced compared to the abundance of narrative voice transpiring chapter one. Chapter two is an initiation into the world of Meursault s quotidian reality of emerging salient features of Meursault s world. The novel creates motion in the whole world and achieves a density of effect in the process. Even after a rather dull and eventless Sunday, Meursault still manages to end the chapter with a discomforting remark, almost as if he were to remind reader of his existential presence. After his structured and mechanical ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This pistol of Meursault s epiphany radiates an unnatural and insincere sense, almost overdriving reader to comprehend the true meaning of the sentence. Meursault feels apprehensive towards his mother s death, which is disparate of Meursault s detached nature. However Meursault is aware that he is expected to return to his norms from the society though being drawn into a whirlpool of life. Lombok has many destinations to visit, and adventures to do. I especially love the beaches. They are many beautiful beaches like Kuta, Senggigi, Nipah, and others. The activities are also fun like the fabric weaving, snorkeling, and other sea activities. But i hate snorkelling to the deep water because I m afraid of getting bitten by the fish. My suggestions for you who love sea activities, you should try snorkeling in Gili Trawangan, Gili Meno, and Gili Air. Because they are many beautiful fish and coral reefs, other fun activities like giving food to the fish and visited many fish points like turtle points and Manta points. And for the food, you should eat the Gelato because it s really yummy. And for those who like spicy foods, you should try Plecing Kangkung, Taliwang Chicken and Rembiga Satay. And don t forget to eat Grilled Fish in Nipah. For the cultural activities, you should visit the Clay Factory. You will see the beautiful clay there and you will learn how to make the clay. • 7. Why Do We Need Effective Classroom Management Teachers often wonder how to execute the ideal lesson, what structure should they adopt and how to ensure that all their students cooperate. What we need to recognise is what classroom management is and how much does student behavior factor? Why is it significant? What strategies does my mentor use to establish classroom management within the class? If we know the behaviour of our students, what do we need to do to ensure that effective classroom management is successfully acquired? All these questions need to be answered as they all link towards a successful lesson and student cooperation. During my two weeks of placement, I was placed at St Albans Primary School in a prep class. Considering that these students are at a young age, they are in a position where they are still developing skills and are in the process of becoming mature, therefore classroom management is crucial. In the class that I was in, students would often cause trouble with other members of the class, they are easily distracted and overall difficult to handle. Being that I am a pre service teacher, they often took advantage of me while I conducted the class, they would do the events explained above, and this is due to the lack of classroom management and my ability to maintain student behaviour. This led to students not understanding the task at hand and the overall focus of the lesson was not acquired. It is crucial that classroom management is maintained, without a theoretical approach to classroom ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. The Myth Of The Cherokee Indians There are many religions in this world and many creation myths that accompany those religions. Each religion has its own unique viewpoint on how the world came to be. The Cherokee myth I have chosen is something that may seem outrageous to the outsider, but it is how the Cherokee Indians have viewed their creation for many years. The Cherokee believed that before their world as they know it began, it was just water. All the animals lived in a land called Galun lati that was above the water (in the sky), but it was overcrowded. A water beetle, named Dayuni si, volunteered to explore the water beneath them. Dayuni si was unable to find solid ground on the surface of the water, but dove below the surface and only found mud. The beetle brought the mud to the water s surface and it began to grow and spread out. This mud became the Earth, as the Cherokee Indians knew it. Later the Earth was tied to the sky with a string at each of the corners ( Native American Myths of Creation ). The Earth was too wet so the animals sent the Great Buzzard from Galun lati and told him to go and make it ready for them. He flew all around the land, but it was still soft. By the time he had traveled to Cherokee country, he was tired as his wings flapped the ground, they created mountains and valleys. The animals concluded that the land was too dark so they made the sun and gave it a path to travel on each day from the east to the west. After the plants and animals, humans were created. They ... Hip Hop is considered to have been born in 1973, in South Bronx, New York by Jamaican born Kool DJ Herc (Blanchard, B, 1999). He used a turntable technique at a Halloween party, which eventually became extremely popular at every party scene. The term breakdancing came to life shortly after. Rhymes over hip hop music, also known as rap, began first as a commentary of the ability of the DJ. MCs introduced DJs and their songs. • 11. Summary OfAll Summer In A Day By Ray Bradbury In the story, All Summer in a Day, Ray Bradbury draws us in, as readers, with a story that takes place on the planet Venus. The environment of Venus is as described in this quote, It had been raining for seven years; thousands upon thousands of days compounded and filled from one end to the other with rain, with the gush and gush of water...fall of showers and the concussion of storms so heavy they were tidal waves come over the islands... (Bradbury, 1954) With an environment like this, what type of people would those on Venus be if they had never felt, saw, or experienced the sun before? The only one that has experienced and remembers the sun is a young girl, Margot. Margot lived on Earth until she was four years old, unlike the others who have been living underground in Venus for their entire lives. Because of this, Margot is constantly facing problems regarding her classmates jealousy of her past opportunities. Without the sun, she has become, as Bradbury writes, ...a very frail girl who looked as if she had been lost in the rain for years and the rain had washed out the blue from her eyes and the red from her mouth and the yellow from her hair. She was an old photograph dusted from an album, whitened away, and if she spoke at all her voice would be a ghost. (1954, Bradbury) In this short story by Bradbury, the theme is that jealousy and ignorance can blind us from seeing things how they really are. This is shown time after time when Margot is harassed, depressed, and isolated because of her classmates jealousy. To begin, a way that Bradbury shows us that jealousy and ignorance can shield a person from the truth is through the main character, Margot, who is constantly being harassed by her classmates. The only reason Margot s classmates harass her is because she remembers the sun. This makes her different from all the others, who have lived here on Venus since birth. In this way, they are uneducated or ignorant because they have never experienced the sun. Because she is different, the classmates take every chance they have to harass her in any way they can. The second concept is conditional control transfer which means that small blocks of code can be reused and jumped to in different orders. It gave rise to the if/then statements and for loops we use in everyday programming today. In addition, libraries were formed which are blocks of code that can be reused over and over again. Both of these concepts gave rise to the modern day Von Neumann programming languages, which include C, C++ and Java. At this time, still in 1945, German engineer Konrad Zuse designed the first high level non Von Neumann programming language Plankakul (Calculus of Programs). This was unique in history as it was developed at the same time John Von Neumann came out with his two concepts, but it used his own constructs and logic. The Plankakul language was not a huge success at the time, but it showed us many of the same modern day features of a programming language. For example, the features of the language was that it is a high level programming language, has reusable functions, uses no recursion, is a typed language, and there is a WHILE construct for iteration. The language was developed independently of Von Neumann s ideas, but it still came up with similar concepts and influenced modern programming languages. The breakthrough in designing a ... A choice is usually made to either purchase an annuity (a product which offers a guaranteed income for life), used as a drawback (reinvesting the fund value in the stock market from which income can be drawn when needed) or a mixture of both. These constant and gradual improvement in longevity estimates, will give rise to a higher ageing population being formed relative to a lower increase in working population. Consequently all current tax incomes to the government will not be sufficient to be pay the retirement income for the aging population, hence increasing the burden on the government to finance the ageing as it cannot sustain the pension system. The complex nature in estimating one s retirement earnings characterised by additional benefits reward for long term services, alongside the increasing dependence on means tested benefits, has led to a general misunderstanding of the current pension scheme. This has caused the current news media to have issues with both integrity and accuracy. In the past, reporters would spend ample amounts of time gathering information, forming their thoughts, and writing the article. Even with the amount of time they spent on this process, there was even more time allotted for checking and double checking their facts to ensure the accuracy and morality of the story. Thus, They are a primary source of child development. They teach children how to handle fear and most importantly, teach young girls about the transition from childhood to sexual adulthood. Thus, these stories form the norms of the societies in which children develop. Reading or listening to fairy tales, children slowly develop a sense of gender role and learn how they are supposed to act in society. It is said that a beautiful girl needs to obey by doing domestic work and learn to act like a lady so that one day she can find a man and get married. 1. in Cinderella: Or the Glass Slipper by Charles Perrault, it is said that Cinderella is beautiful and .... and is hated by her stepmother and stepsisters because of her beauty. Thus, the stepmother makes her do all the domestic work, such as cleaning and prohibits her from any privileges that the stepsisters might have. When it is announced that the prince is holding a ball to find himself a wife, it is evident that Cinderella cannot attend. This shows how the female power of the antagonist represses the heroine s development into sexual adulthood. With the ultimate goal of every female in fairy tales of getting married, due to her stepmother s and thus stepsister s hatred, Cinderella is deprived from that development Snow White s stepmother, the queen, cannot stand Due to ... • 27. Meaning Of Psalm 139 SIM #7 Psalm 139 Genre: The genre of Psalm 139 is Hebrew poetry, simply because the psalms were written in Hebrew and are a collection of poems and laments. The first principle of interoperation is that the psalms blend experience, emotion, and theology. This should be taken into account while reading the poem in order that the reader does not simply skip over the theology by only focusing on experience and emotion. The second interoperation principle is that each psalm should be read as a whole. Verses of psalms should not be taken out of context, in doing this the reader may distort the meaning of the psalm. Another interpretation principle to take into consideration is the different genres of psalms such as: laments, thanksgiving, hymns of praise, wisdom, and songs of trust. With that being said, Psalm 139 not only falls under the Hebrew poetry genre, but is also classified as a psalm of trust. Lastly, the fourth interpretation principle is that parallelisms are used. In other words, ideas correlate in many different ways such as: synonymously, antithesis, intensifying, specifying, and synthetically. Grammatical/Literacy: Why does David specify that God will hold him with his right hand? What is the depths and does this refer to hell? Historical/Cultural: Are concerning and precious interchangeable in Hebrew (During this time period)? • 28. Investment Case Study Do the circumstances surrounding the sale of the Collinsville plant play any role in your willingness to buy the assets? If so, how, if not, why not? On the one hand, the circumstances of the sale make me less willing to buy. In particular, both Universal and the federal government think that American s acquisition creates antitrust issues. If this is the case, American could use its market power to change the nature of the market and make Dixon s new plant unprofitable by setting lower prices for sodium chlorate in its other plants. On the other hand, the circumstances make me more willing to buy the assets because American has to divest the plant to comply with a court order. Therefore, they have less leverage during the sale ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... With these assumptions, the present value of the total cash flows value the plant at $7.9M.[5] Under this valuation, the $12M offer seems high and that Dixon should not make the investment without the laminate technology. Even if we relax the assumptions and use the lower end WACC in our range of 14.5% and assume that capital expenditures will be the low end of the range at $475k per annum after 1984, the deal at $12M would still be dilutive because the DCF value is still only $8.9M.[6] At the other extreme, assuming a WACC of 18.5% and capital expenditures of $600k per annum, the plant is only worth $7.5M. While the model above does not account for the return of working capital at the end of year in 1989, the discounted value of this working capital is only worth about $650k and therefore does not substantially alter the analysis. Given this analysis, the deal is dilutive and Dixon should not make the investment. 2) Evaluate the marginal impact of the laminate technology (i.e. net present value of the costs savings and expenses assuming that without laminate, graphite costs go up 5% per year after 1984 and power costs rise 12% after 1984). The laminate technology requires an upfront capital expenditure of $2.25M that can be straight line depreciated over 10 years. This laminate will eliminate graphite costs completely and reduce power costs by 15 20%. Assuming the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 29. Role Of Boxer In Animal Farm The allegorical novella, titled Animal Farm, was written by George Orwell, and expresses the 18th century Industrial Revolution. During this time, Russia was renamed the Soviet Union, and replaced as a communist nation because of being overthrown by Russian civilians, who assassinated Czar Nicholas the II. The novel uses animals to represent the population of people, with some animals even becoming and acting as leaders during this economic development. At the Manor Farm, the animals rebel and win against their indefatigable human owner, Mr. Jones; however, a cryptic pig named Napoleon takes the leadership role. As the farm struggles to make a utopian society, Boxer, a horse, is depicted as an animal who is a peasant, and represents the working class during the difficult time. Boxer is displayed variously as a persevering, devoted, and influential animal, that would expose the Manor Farm of many flaws if he were not present and working. Boxer is revealed in the text to be persevering, and an animal who will give every ounce of energy, when it seems as though he has everything against him. After his hoof had healed up, Boxer worked harder than ever...sometimes the long hours of insufficient food were hard to bear but Boxer never faltered (74). This exemplifies that, Boxer is persistent, to the point where he will even work while he is still recovering from a brutal hoof injury. This also shows that, Boxer, although lacking valuable nutrients, will work through the pain of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 30. Essay on The Role of Poetry in Narrative Prose of the... If I happen to encounter poetry imbedded within prose, I tend to either skip over it, scan it, or otherwise read it as quickly as possible if it seems uninteresting. I am almost shamed to admit that my reading habits hold no exception for traditional Japanese literature, although I guess I am forced to go back and actually read them thoroughly now, since that happens to be the topic of this paper. First of all, I can grasp the meaning of the poem if it is obvious enough in context. For someone unfamiliar with Japanese literature, history, language, etc., it is difficult to understand, let alone recognize the allusions present. Luckily, Royall Tyler was kind enough to footnote a good majority of the poems for the inexperienced readers ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... A deep seated sorrow is felt at the loss of her companionship. Yes, yes, it is all very moving and pretty, until one realizes that this is Narihira we are reading about. In the short time I have spent with him and Genji, I have come to develop a distinct dislike for these two characters, which makes me biased against anything involving them, especially their poetry. Just the thought of this poetry being composed by such people, fictional or not, instantly makes it unappealing. Actual correspondence between the men and women in these tales through poetry is even worse; having that as the only form of communication between them seems frustrating. More often than not in its romantic role in stories, poetry only serves to foster wrongful feelings, inciting misplaced passions that lead to shameful misdeeds. I suppose society was simply like that at the time and I should give in and accept it for what it was and be happy that that is not the modern convention. Perhaps it is an ancient form of the current interpreting the text message? Moving on to poetry in a different type of narrative, the Tosa Diary is filled with poetry unconcerned with romantic relationships, comprised of farewells, statements, and descriptions of the strange and horrifying new sights they encounter on the sea bound voyage. • 31. Iago Character Analysis William Shakespeare was born in 1564. Very little is known about his personal life but he is one of the most well known authors in history. One of his famous works is Othello. There are many key characters in the play but there is one that plays a major key role in what happens and that is Iago. He is a supposed to be Othello s best friend but as the play goes on, his true colors begin to show. No other character can even come close to his evil. Most of the characters in the play have a reason for what they do. Iago lies and manipulates the characters of the play because he is a very ruthless man. Shakespeare does a very good job in showing what kind of person Iago is right from the beginning of the play. The reader begins to realize this before any of the characters in the play do. I believe he did this so the reader will begin to see how evil Iago is yet how unjustified his reasoning is. Iago is the main reason there is conflict in Othello. I feel as if he had not entered the play Othello would have married Desdemona and they would have lived happily ever after. Right from the beginning of the play to the very end he causes conflicts. He is responsible for the deaths of Othello, Desdemona, Emilia, Cassio, and Roderigo. Which happen to all be the main characters. All the problems he causes are through lies, manipulation, and a deep unknown hate. Some of his hate is fueled by jealousy and revenge. The ironic part is that he wants to be known as honest Iago . Virginia Woolf utilized imagery to make the reader comprehend that the moth´s battle with death was homogeneous to her battle with her bipolar tendencies and depression. Amphetamines For Kids Research Paper Amphetamines for Kids ADD/ADHD is a disease that affects many children in the U.S. Most who are diagnosed with the disease take prescription amphetamines (Hitt). The name amphetamine can be very intimidating, as it is normally associated with the extremely addictive, and illegal drug, methamphetamine. Many parents are worried about their children taking these drugs and how they will be affected (Boorady). Scientists and doctors are currently conducting research on the long term and short term side effects of these medications (Long Term). As a result, there is much controversy over how ADHD medication affects a child s body. When a child is diagnosed with ADD/ADHD, most medical professionals prescribe a amphetamine to help the child with his symptoms. These drugs increase the levels of dopamine in the brain.
