The Effects Of Music On The Music Industry
Before sound recording were possible, music was enjoyed live by watching the performers
performing on their instruments in front of you. When sound recording became possible, the
way we enjoy music was not limited to watching the performers anymore. By looking at the
development of sound reproduction and the devices that are capable of sound playback, we are
able to take a look at look on how the production and consumption of music have been affected
over the years in terms of portability, affordability and how it affects the music industry.
Reproduction of sound has come a long way, dating all the way back to 1855 where French
inventor Г‰douard LГ©on Scott de Martinville invented the phonautograph. Even though the
phonautograph was not capable of doing a playback of what was recorded, it set the path for sound
recording. (Crane, 2015) However, the credit for the records and gramophone that we use today
goes to American Inventor Emil Berliner. Despite the innovation, the gramophone did not became
commercially popular when it was first invented. It was only until the end of 1897 that the first
commercially manufactured disc record appeared in the United States and made the gramophone
popular as a mean of entertainment. (Read, 1952) Records then began to be mass produced and
distributed for different occasions. Katz (2004) noted: True, mass reproduced art does lack
temporal and physical uniqueness, yet reproductions, no longer bound to the circumstances of their
creation, many

Nanapush s Tracks Analysis
Nanapush is one of two narrators in Tracks. He is a Native American and tribal elder. Because of
this, he tends to be traditional male. However, he sometimes reveals his femininity. This paper
explains Nanapush s both traditional male role and feminine role in Tracks. Nanapush
represents a man of the old generation in this book. He is somewhat patriarchal, dislike a
change. In one word, he adhere to the olds; he knews how to make the old medicine, knew the
old ways of hunting, and paid attention to the tribe s survival. Generally, he took a role of
traditional old male character in this book. However, Nanapush also has a woman like
characteristic. He rescued Fleur in the middle of winter and nurse her. After that, he adopted Fleur

Introduction And Design Of The Study
CHAPTER I
INTRODUCTION AND DESIGN OF THE STUDY
1.1Introduction
Over the last few decades information technology has played an important role in Indian
economy. It has affected all the industries especially the banking industry and has provided a way
for the banks to differentiate their products and services. The traditional way of financial services
delivered to customers called the branch based operations which had been used by the banks for
more than 200 years, has been replaced by the advent of multiple technologies and application. For
instance, Automated Teller Machine (ATM) displaced cashier tellers, telephone represented by call
centers replaced the bank branch, the internet replaced mail, credit cards and electronic cash
replaced bank transactions. The reason was the numerous key advantages that banks could gain by
providing electronic banking services. In this way they had lower transactions cost, 24 hour
trading, more extended business territory and also increased efficiency in daily banking process.
The Banking Sector is also facing very stiff competition. In order to succeed such competition, they
must offer a wide array of products with the latest technology. At present many banks and financial
institutions are actively developing new electronic banking products for their customers throughout
the world (Alagheband 2006) . The key players of banking industry are its customers and all the
efforts made by the banks are to satisfy the desirable needs of

What Role Does Matter Play In Making Social Worlds Secure
What role does matter play in making social worlds secure or insecure? Illustrate your answer with
reference to any two chapters from Security: Sociology and Social Worlds
Within the natural world security is very fundamental to survival and living things gravitate
towards it. Basic needs such as air, food, water, disease avoidance and shelter from the elements
are vital. Within the social world like the natural it forms the basis to which people and society can
function well, and explains why security is of primary concern through all spheres of said society.
This assignment seeks to look at the role matter plays in making social worlds secure or insecure.
This will be done by uncovering that which is often taken for granted about the role materiality
plays in the social world through theories, concepts and examples of security in various settings
such as the individual, the home, the city and other parts of society.
Matter is often defined as mass that can be physically observed by the senses, it can be measured
scientifically and is tangible , it could be said the material world unlike aspects of social worlds
is less abstract and easier to define, for example a building which comprises of bricks, wood,
metal and other materials built into a specific shape compared to a community which can relate to
people of the same place or shared values or interests or all. That is not to say that matter just is, it
too can have agency and varying meanings dependent upon the

Theories Of Discourse Ethics
1. Discourse ethics is a branch of ethics that attempts to establish or understand ethical truths by
examining conceptions and presuppositions that we have about the nature of language. It is
important in a course like Philosophy of Human Communication because it is applied when
there are at least two speaking subjects engaged in the to and fro of human dialogue. 2. Walter
Kaufmann says the manifold is frightening because the nature of reality is manifold or unsettled,
chaotic, or multi faceted. This is why people feel dread when they have a wealth of possibilities
(Kaufmann, 1996, pg. 9). People would much rather have fewer choices, which is why we can
point to religion and how there is a good, and evil. There are two choices to make and they offer a
single choice that is easy to make because the other is a path that is condemned to live in eternal
hell.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Mundus vult decipi means the world wants to be deceived (Kaufmann, 1996, pg. 9). The truth
is too complex and frightening so we lie to ourselves in order to cover over the frightening
manifold of things. Kaufmann discusses the hierarchy of deceptions on the higher level we find
fictions that men eagerly believe, regardless of the evidence, because they gratify some wish.
Close to the top of the ladder people encounter curious mixtures of untruth and truth that exert a
lasting fascination on the intellectual community (Kaufmann, 1996, pg. 10). 4. Thinking in
terms of dualisms can be explained simply by saying we see things in terms of dichotomous
categories. These categories such as good and evil, right and wrong, true and false, mind and
body, man and woman. When you think of dualisms such as right and wrong there is always one
side that is superior to the other. Good is superior to bad just as truth is superior to something that
is false. If we break reality down in a dualist approach we can create the illusion that we have
control over reality. We have control of

United States Election Project Headed By Dr. Michael...
This past weekend, mid term elections took place nationwide. According to the United States
Election Project headed by Dr. Michael McDonald at University of Florida, with just a voter
turnout of 36.4%, it was the lowest overall turnout since World War II which occurred 70 years
ago. Mid term elections are congressional electionsthat occur halfway through the president s
term. Congressional ballots are held every two years and all House of Representative seats are
contested as well as one third of Senate seats. Most state legislature and governor elections(about
thirty six out of fifty states) occur the same day(M.D.). These elections have the ability to change
the way America is governed. For example, with the 1994 mid term elections that occurred during
President Clinton s reign came a power shift within the House and the Senate from Democrats to
Republicans. This power shift resulted in the reform of the welfare system. Therefore, it is
important for people, especially minorities, to exercise the right to vote.
In recent history, there has been a reported decrease in voter turnout for both minor and major
elections such as mid term and presidential elections. Some of the causes for this decrease are
inequality, social capital and election day conditions; all of which minorities are subject to. Most of
whom we consider to be regular voters,or those that are sure to vote, are wealthy, older, educated,
white, and church attending people. They are usually more involved in

Essay about Orson Welles The Magnificent Ambersons
The biggest mistake we have made is to consider that films are primarily a form of entertainment.
The film is the greatest medium since the invention of movable type for exchanging ideas and
information, and it is no more at its best in light entertainment than literature is at its best in the
light novel. Orson Welles
Orson Welles was passionate about film. By the young ageof 25, he had directed, produced, and
starred in what is today considered by most to be the greatest movie ever made, Citizen Kane.
About a year later, Welles began work on his next film project, The Magnificent Ambersons. Based
on the novel of the same name by Booth Tarkington, The Magnificent Ambersons tells the story of a
falling aristocratic family in a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Welles wrote the script of The Ambersons in nine days (McBride53).
The film was to be financed by the production company RKO/ Mercury. A major problem arouse
with the budget before shooting began. Because of the shrinking international film market, RKO
had set a maximum budget in Welles contract of $600,000 for The Magnificent Ambersons
(Higham213). Also, according to the arrangement that RKO had made with its bank, no film from
the studio was ever to exceed $750,000. A pre budget estimate of Ambersons came close to one
million dollars. Pared down to more details in its final form just before shooting, the film looked
as if it would still cost in excess of $850,000. Permission to proceed with production was eventually
granted, but with strict rules to Welles to bring the cost down to under the $750,000 figure (Higham
214).
The Magnificent Ambersons is a Historical Epic Drama based on a time almost 70 years prior to
its making. In order to cast the film, Welles read a delineation of the characters Tarkington had
given in a 1917 issue of Metropolitan Magazine (Brady 316).
The silent star Dolores Costello was brought out of retirement to play Isabel Amberson. Welles
also made the surprising choice of selecting contract player Tim Holt for the role of George
Minafer. Holt was considered a mistake by most

Fluorescent Protein Coding Regions Of Species Of The...
Fluorescent Protein coding regions of species of the Cnidarian phyla, will be subjected to an
evolutionary analysis focusing on gene duplication, expansion and divergence. This will allow the
evolutionary processes that led to the development of these gene become clear. Changes due to
mutations and other factors which occurr in DNAsequences cause variation of genes over
evolutionary time. Characterisation of fluorescent proteins across sister phyla will allow accurate
conclusion of the origins of such proteins. It is suspected that gene expansion across evolutionary
time resulted in the diversification of the fluorescent genes to exhibit a vast array of colours seen
across today s Cnidaria. One phyla of particular interest in the Cnidarians, with their vast colour
array of their fluorophores. The results were inconclusive and the hypothesis was not answered.
Key Words: Cnidarian, Zoanthid, green fluorescent protein, evolution, gene expansion

light with a lack of radiant heat termed cold light . Three main categories describe the types of
luminescence (please refer to Table 1); biological, chemical and physical. Bioluminescence is
another broad term defining any form of luminescence produced by organisms, predominantly seen
in marine species. This phenomena is seen in some species of cephalopods of the Tesuthida (squid)

Technology And Its Impact On The Medical Field
In the world we live in today technology is always advancing; having many great effects in our
personal lives and in the medical field, one of which being the technical advances on magnetic
resonance imaging (MRI). MRIs have been a great resource for us to use to help diagnose
people in a way we have never been able to before. A magnetic resonance imaging scan uses a
large magnet, radio waves, and a computer to create a detailed cross sectional image of the
patient s internal organs and structures, (Lam). Being able to examine patients in a noninvasive
way and take pictures of what their organs look like is a huge medical advance proving to us that
we can help diagnose more people in a less harmful way and are able to treat them faster and
give them a better prognosis. But we cannot forget what came before the MRI, which was
nuclear resonance imaging (NMR). NMR is the key piece to magnetic resonance imaging and if
it weren t for the discovery of NMR and it s many uses we wouldn t have MRI scanners. The
evolution of MRIs has left a profound impact on the scientific community, particularly in the field
of medicine. Before bringing up the topic of MRI scanners it would be useful to have some
background information on the science behind it all. Starting with nuclear resonance imaging, what
it is, the discovery itself, and how it became relevant to the topic of MRI scanners. NMR

Logical Fallacies In Critical Thinking
Critical thinking is an important part of a lot of people s lives because they choose to look at the
world more differently than most. People choose to think critically because they want to see what
other don t. What I believe that critical thinking means is to look at something from every angle
possible and to think about why or how it s important. A lot of readers that I know tend to think
critically because it allows them to dissect what is written and gain more from a story aside from
the normal enjoyment of just reading the book. Critical thinking helps readers determine if the
book is problematic and how the errors in that book make it worth discussing. Critical thinking
allows people to grow because it extends their thoughtprocess and... Show more content on

It becomes a problematic situation even if it was written in the first book that they published and
it didn t reflect the type of person or writer that they are now, they will still be seen a sexist. I
believe that this is a hasty generalization because it takes one situation with an author of a certain
gender and creates this belief about other authors of the same gender. It creates a stereotype or
misconception about male authors in general. I think that this happens when readers refuse to think
critically for themselves because when some of these readers hear something, they run with it like it

Roy Williams Cheating
Cheating, you may do it, you probably have done it somewhere in your life, but what about the
penalties you may suffer for being caught? People cheat in many things: school, sports, and, but not
limited to, relationships. But there is many ways to cheat in those multiple examples, like in sports
you can cheat with: drugs, academic eligibility, or even through recruiting. The topic of this paper
is college basketball and cheating. What makes college basketball coachesbreak the rules, is it worth
the penalty you might ultimately face?
Roy Williams has had an unproven history of not obeying the academic rules, but he was
actually caught in 2004. One of his players, Rashad McCants, recently came out and said Roy
did cheat. Rashad McCants, a North Carolina basketball player from 2002 2005 was one of the
leading scores on the 2005 National Champion UNC team, who said he participated in Roy
Williams academic scandal. He was drafted by the Minnesota Timberwolves and then ended up
being unsigned in the league by the year 2009, admitted to taking bogus classes designed to help
athletes stay academically eligible (Delsohn). Rashad McCants is the only person who came out
against Roy Williams in the academic scandal. The classes Rashad McCants referred to recently
were exposed in his interview with Steve Delsohn, a writer for ESPN. The class was a paper
class, that did not require you to show up to class at all, but rather to turn in a term paper at the end
of the semester to receive

The Purpose Of Tort Law
The essential purpose and most basic principle of tort law is that the plaintiff must be placed in
the position he or she would have been in absent the defendant s fault or negligence. It is
impossible to fully restore the plaintiff, as he will never be fully restored. However, compensation
is the best way to put the plaintiff back into his original position. Even though most resources of
the tort system are spent on dealing with claims, it is a very slow process as it is so complex
because it involves many parties. It is often time consuming and expensive to file a claim, making it
very cost ineffective. The increased involvement of insurance companies has made it even more
time consuming, with the introduction of their own... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The court system does not seem to base their judgment on legal elements and legal facts but a
major consideration on public policy and interest. This can be seen in Barnett v Chelsea
Kensington Hospital , where the ratio is that the patient would have died anyway in spite of the
doctor s examination. To impose a liability on the doctor would give rise to many claims,
involving many unnecessary claims. However, doctors duty is to examine a patient and decide
on the plan of treatment, where in this case, the doctor did not even examine the patient. The
reluctance of the court to impose a liability on public bodies can also be seen in Alcock v Chief
Constable of South Yorkshire Police . The court was reluctant to impose a liability on the police
force, even when the Taylor Report reported that the accident was caused by the negligence of
the police force, as they let too many supporters in. There are enough facts in these two cases to
impose a liability on the doctor and the police department respectively, however, the reluctant
approach from the court towards public bodies have resulted in unsuccessful claims in these two
cases. In Alcock v Chief Constable of South Yorkshire Police , there is also the issue regarding the
cost of deterring beneficial activities. As the Hillsborough disaster was broadcasted live, many

Conflicts And Tensions Between The French And Algerian War...
The period between 1830 and 1962 was full of conflicts and tensions between the unstable French
and Algerian government. Conflicts were based on religion, equality, nationalism, politics and
terrorism. With the encouragement of European settlement, privileges and inequality appeared. As
the pressure grew, new nationalistic groups were created, and sometimes they would act as a
terrorist organization, just like the FLN group. Even though the problems were increasing in the
French colony, there was some collaboration that tried to maintain the peace in it. Some laws that
were published enhanced the political power of Algerians in their government, National Assembly
in Paris. From the very beginning of the existence of the French Algeria, it was hard to balance the

industrial revolution of the late eighteenth and early nineteenth century.
This paper intends to compare the first industrial revolution of the 17th and 18th centuries and the
second industrial revolution of the mid 18th and 19th centuries. It will highlight the transformation
from the first revolution to the second revolution, focusing on the presence of giant firms and role
of science and technology in economic activities. Additionally, it will introduce the two worldly
philosophers Karl Marx and Adam Smith on these issues.

Not only did the introduction of petrol engines made transportation more faster, it also helped
with the development of the aircraft engine which meant that transportation of good was
efficient. The medical science developed rapidly in 1850s various vaccines were discovered and
x ray facilities were made available to doctors which created a more efficient way of diagnosing
illness. For instance, the 1919 influenza epidermis saw the development of anti flu vaccines which
made a remarkable milestone in the development of drugs. Prior to this discoverer it was common
knowledge for people to blame certain aliment and natural occurrences as a punishment on God for
sins committed e.g. 1755 Lisbon earthquake in Portugal. (Auerbach 2013)
The remarkable element of changes in industrial revolution was the sharp increase in output of the
newly technologically advanced industries. In 1701, the importation of raw cotton for spinning
weight 1 million, however, a drastic increase by 1781 was 5million. Likewise textile technology
by 1784 it was over 11million pound, nonetheless a massive increase by 1799 to 43million.
(Hammond and Hammond 1937, p 162).
The first industrial revolution emerged with small scale of industry which was managed mainly by
the owners. Consequently, Workers and owners had good relationships, but productivity was low.
However, the second revolution emerged with big

Deviance Is A Existence Of Social Deviance In Society
Everyone once in a lifetime breaks a social norm, or shows some kind of act of deviance.
Deviance is a violation of social norms, it can be relative. Most of the time, what is deviant to
some people is not deviant to others. Howard Becker explained that deviance is not the act itself,
but the reactions to the act. For example, praying at a party; nothing is wrong with praying, but
people will look at you like you are crazy because you usually don t see anybody praying at a
party, this is violating a social norm. Social norms are the rules of behavior that are considered
acceptable in a group or society. People who do not follow these norms may be shunned or
suffer some kind of consequence. Therefore, this relates back to the example praying at a party,
people may not talk to you because you are praying at a party; this is a consequence of violating
the social norm. The mild social norms I violated were, not holding the door for the people
behind me, being quiet around close friends, and asking my parents for permission to do
everything. Most of the time I usually hold the door for people behind me, but for the
experiment I didn t hold the door for others. I always hated when people didn t hold the door for
me when I am behind them. Therefore, I knew how some people would react to my behavior.
When I got to school one morning, as I was opening the door I saw my principle behind me, so I
decided to do the experiment on her; I waited till she got behind me to open the door. As I went
through the door, I didn t hold the door for her, I quickly looked at her facial expression, and she
wasn t very pleased. This experiment made feel bad because I usually hold the door for others. I
realized that our society really care about this norm because of her reaction to me. I m always a
talkative, outgoing, fun, and loud kind of person. So not talking around my close friends was
really hard to do. As I was doing this experiment, I observed my friends reactions. They were
talking about different things, I never engaged in the conversation. Then they started asking me,
Are you okay Tania? , Is something wrong? , and Is you mad at us? Once again, I am a very
outgoing, fun, and loud person, so not talking around them

Best Practices In Health Education
The health and well being of our nation s young people is not a matter of luck. It is not a chance
or random event. It must be a planned outcome. The case for well designed, well resourced, and
sustained health education in the nation s schools is compelling.
Health education builds students knowledge, skills, and positive attitudes about health. Health
education teaches about physical, mental, emotional and social health. Through health education
students are motivated to improve and maintain their health, prevent disease, and reduce risky
behaviors.
Health education curricula and instruction help students learn skills they will use to make healthy
choices throughout their lifetime. Positive changes in behavior that lower student risks are a by

Theme Of Decline Of The West
The Decline of the West
The short story The Decline of the West written by Hanif Kureishi and published in 2010 deals with
heavy themes such as materialism, bad parenting and focuses on the dysfunctional families that can
be found in our modern society as a consequence of materialism.
In the short story we are introduced to the father Mike who has lost his job in corporate finance
and is on his way home to tell his family. The reveal of the bad news to his dysfunctional and
materialistic family is constantly being put off by his family s constant demand of new and better

New History Textbook Analysis
During the 1900 s there was a huge controversy regarding the information within history textbooks
about the Japan and it s neighboring countries. Two of Japan s neighboring countries were not
pleased with the way that these textbook were written so these textbooks needed to be changed.
Those two countries would be South Korea and China. When writing about something that
happened in a war you must remember to put in the correct information. The controversy going
on between Japan, South Korea, and China was that there was a textbook that was being
published about what happened during the Asia Pacific war. In the late 1980 s and the early
1990 s there was an issue of changing what was written within the New History Textbook. The
Japanese were not happy with this textbook because it focused mainly on the atrocities that Japan
had committed during the Asia Pacific war. Also, published within the text was the term comfort
woman , this term refers to women and girls who were forced into sex slaves by the Imperial
Japanese army. When the assessment of Japan is looked at it seems as Japan s past is similar to

Architecture in the Store Structure Essay
Architecture in the Store Structure
As I walk through University Towne Centre Mall, I notice tucked away in a somewhat secluded
part of the mall the store Structure. Structure is a men s clothing and accessory store. Hanging in
the large glass windows of the store are colored posters of handsome men dressed from head to toe
in the latest Structure fashions. Structure has adopted the Greek Ionic Column as part of it s
building plan. Painted on the front windows of the store are small silhouette images of an idealized
Greek temple. The Greek architectural elements that have been used to decorate and symbolize
Structure, are in perfect condition. In fact, one could even go far enough to imagine that they were
standing in Athens thousands ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is an image that can be portrayed onto the merchandise Structure sells as well. Even the name
of the store is key when it comes to wanting quality. The word structure has a permeance about it,
therefore, when I think of the word structure I think of something that has been engineered by a
genius ages ahead of their time, another selling point to tell to your customer. Sir, oh sir, those
slacks look stunning on you, did you know that an engineer at Harvard designed them for longevity
and comfort? Of course this probably is not true, but with a name like Structure, anything is
possible.
Inside the store you are surrounded by vignettes containing small Greek columns, which are again
referring to the timeless quality that surrounds you. The clothes that they sell are displayed on
hangers on a rod that is held by a pair of flanked stylized columns. When you reach for a shirt to
try on, you are choosing something that is imaged as pure quality and style.
Temples were built by the Greeks and were made to serve a variety of purposes. Whatever the
occasion was, Greek temples were of easy access, with all four sides being open. The store
Structure is not built so all walls are open to the public, that type of construction would not last long
this day in age. You enter Structure from one door and exit through the same one. Once inside the

Similarities Between The Rome And The Han Dynasty
The Han Dynasty and Imperial Rome were two greatly advanced civilizations for their time period
and their success was no fluke. Both dynasties gained their success through a handful of varying
ideas and strategies involving the economy, military, and social structures. However, one of the
greatest factors that determined the respective dynasty s futures was their methods of political
control. The Han Dynastyand Roman Empireagreed on some major aspects and ideas of politics,
but also had diverging views on a few subjects. For example, one major topic both groups
disagreed on is the form of government. Some examples of subjects they both agreed on was the
focus on infrastructure and trade. One thing that most major political states throughout history can
agree on is the importance of trading, not only within the state but with outside states as well.
Both the Roman Empire and the Han Dynasty were large participants in trade, not only within
their states but with outside states as well. The Han Dynasty exemplifies this by showing their
great amount of effort to get involved in the Silk Road. The Han Dynasty went to the extent of
expanding the wall into the route of the Silk Road. Metaphorically speaking, this is the Han
Dynasty s way of sticking their foot in the Silk Road and regional trade. This was first done in the
Han Dynasty because the leaders knew the necessity for trade and its power to keep their
government and society thriving.
The Romans were also greatly

The Beginnings of Newnham College
When liberal reformers presented proposals for women to attend university, they were greeted
with incredulity; so radical and extreme was the concept in the 19th century. However,
pioneering liberals are nothing if not persistent and in 1871 Newnham College was formed by
philosopher Henry Sidgwick, a fellow at Trinity, along with his future wife Eleanor Balfour,
local suffragist Millicent Garrett Fawcett, and the college s first principal Anne Clough. The
Association for Promoting the Higher Education for Women in Cambridge had done a lot of
lobbying but was considered high minded by Sidgwick for totally ignoring such practical
considerations as student accommodation. To this end he set up Newnham Hall Company Ltd
with the stated aim of building an approved boarding house. Started life as a hostel Originally
situated at 74 Regent Street, the college was a hostel for five women who wished to attend
university lectures, a privilege granted at the discretion of the lecturer. Following an increase in
demand the hostel moved to Merton House at Queen s Road, then settled at its current home at
Newnham in 1875. As with many colleges there was no master building plan, but a haphazard
development around the original E shaped, Basil Champney s red brick designs constructed
between 1873 and 1913 the first World war bringing an end to this phase of building. Basil was at
Trinity at the same time as founder Sidgwick and when he failed to get a first, he turned his

Phoenix In Eudora Welty s A Worn Path
The phoenix was a symbol of fire and power in the past, and among the many warnings it brought
forth about plague or other illnesses that may strike the people who come across it. More
importantly it was a symbol of rebirth and hope, and in some anglo saxon cultures it was a sign
of longevity to see the ashes of a fire bird and a sign of peace to see one reborn. Yet, it would be
seen as doubly interesting to look, not only into the meaning of the word and symbol Phoenix, but
into the name as well. Why is it that Eudora Weltymade a character, an old and frail black woman
with that name? [An] arguement is that this text figures the writing process, that much more than a

Officials
The main job of an official was to keep law and order and discuss issues. Because of their
education, officials were well respected and were able to live a comfortable lifestyle. Due to
this, to become an official, men had to pass a 60 hour exam. This was so difficult that only
1:3000 people got in, meaning that the amount of officials was quite low. Officials spent most of
their time discussing religion, laws, farming and taxes. They had the largest job out of the shi
because there were such a variety of issues they talked about. As well as talking about issues,
officials also acted upon them. Some examples of this is when they went out to the country and
encouraged farming methods, collected taxes and enforced laws.
Why were the shi so important?
The shi were so important because they contributed greatly to the organisation and government of
China. If it weren t for them China would not be an established and wealthy country today.
Because the shi were educated and were able to read and write, we are able to learn and understand
the history and culture of Ancient China. This group of people was also very important because
they talked to the emperor and kept his information, translated documents and ran the main
government. Major jobs they had included commanding battles, scribers, clerks, organised rituals
and collected taxes. This proves that the shi provided vital jobs for Ancient China.

Procedural justice is the act involved in decision making. It incorporates the process of involving
transparency and fairness in making decisions. The incorporation of justice in this process is
equally essential it entails that all parties allowed to give their views before decision are made
concerning a given matter. Some theories state that restorative and distributive justice might not be

outcomes that are equitable (Jason Tyler, 2003). The police department in America is one unit that

Persuasive Essay On Fukushima
Fukushima Possibly Dwarfed by Deliberate Nuclear Dumping by U.S., Europe, and Soviets
The most egregious facet of the ongoing fiasco that is the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear incident is
widely accepted to be the intentional release of hundreds of tons of radioactive water into the
oceans surrounding the reactors. In terms of total radioactivity released into the environment,
Fukushima has already surpassed the Chernobyl incident of the 1980s, that Soviet sized lead
balloon (plutonium balloon?), which is the only other Level 7 event on the International Nuclear
Event Scale. But another seemingly forgotten relic of the Cold War could pose an even greater
nuclear threat to our oceans, although it has yet to receive the same level of scientific and political
scrutiny as these two accidental events.

However, given government disquietude regarding the subject, little to no research has explored the
effects of intentionally dumped radioactive waste in our oceans. It is only to be seen whether
Fukushima is indeed the largest disaster, or whether the intentional dumping of waste in our oceans

Analysis Of The Book Joyas Voladoras By Published...
In the book Joyas Voladoras by published editor Brain Doyle, Doyle begins talking about humming
birds. The heart of a humming bird, and its physical aspects. Doyle then elaborates on the title that
it translates to flying jewels, which the first explorers named them. Doyle is talking about life, the
center of all living things life, the heart and the different aspects of the heart. The memory that can
be stored there, the heartbeats, the size and even how a heart can be broken. Doyle presents his
ideas differently but causes the reader to connect emotionally, factually, and fairly personally.
Doyle takes a different approach on this essay for the beginning, he makes a move on the reader.
Doyle provides the reader with the assumption that the short essay will cover hummingbirds.
Leading to the effect of grabbing the attention of different types of readers, ones who are interested
in humming birds or readers who know little and are just curious. Doyle states consider the
hummingbird for a long moment (147). Doyle s presentation of the beginning of his essay now
affected specific readers, it pulled in readers from an animal interest. Providing readers with the
assumption that while reading this essay they should consider the hummingbird, and causes them to
imagine a hummingbird for a moment. This move works in the text because the reader s focus is

The Blood Rushing Effect On Readers, And Dracula By Bram...
Only few stories and novels have the blood rushing effect on readers, and Dracula by Bram
Stoker is one of those novels. This novel utilizes the method of using letters and other documents
in order to tell the story. The application of the epistolary technique in the story Dracula proves to
be quite effective because it does enable the reader to foresee the happenings in the story on a
closer and more personal scale. In this novel, the man who writes the letters in Transylvania
experiences a vast amount of supernatural experiences. Within the first four chapters of Dracula,
Jonathan Harker witnesses supernatural occurrence s such as seeing flickering blue lights, how
Jonathan Harker s coachman magically made the were wolves disappear, and how he cannot see
the Count Dracula s reflection in the mirror. In the novel Dracula, Jonathan Harker tries to
overlook these supernatural occurrences because of Mr. Hawkins interest. However, this reason
may not be the most realistic justification in why Jonathan is persistent in his stay, but rather he is
also aware that he is a prisoner. The novel Dracula also has many other supernatural aspects such
as the three women in Count Dracula s house, and how Count Dracula proceeds down the walls in
a lizard like manner. In the novel Dracula, it could be argued that Jonathan Harker is not a reliable
narrator because of the fact that he is the only one in the book experiencing these occurrences and
his mental state is questionable at times. The

Strengths And Weaknesses Of Fact School
This is a number operation lesson for Kindergarten 2nd grade. This lesson might be used in
conjunction with lessons involving fact families. The goal of the lesson is to help the students gain
an understanding of fact families. The students will start with one number, 7, and find the different
addition and subtraction fact families for each number. After the students have used the counters
/cubes/buttons and the red strip and found the different facts of the first number, the students will
count out 8 counters/cubes/buttons and find the next numbers in the fact families.
Strengths Weaknesses:
The activities in this lesson promote a deep understanding of fact families and the different
properties of fact families involving addition and subtraction. A strength of this lesson, with it being
the beginning of learning and using fact families, is the fact that the students are using
manipulatives to visualize and see the similarities in fact families. The students are also recording
their information and facts down as they manipulate the counters/cubes/buttons. This allows the
students to visualize the fact families in all of the possible ways, while still getting the practice of
writing out the information, since they will not always have the materials as supports. Students use
of manipulatives and writing in conjunction allows the students to have maximum practice in
learning number combinations. The questions that are related to this lesson will help the students

United States Entered World War I
In 1917, as the United States entered World War I, Congress established a system that addressed
Veterans benefits which included programs for disability compensation, insurance for service
members and Veterans as well as rehabilitative treatments for those that were disabled
(www.va.gov). Three years later, 3 separate federal agencies: the Veterans Bureau, Bureau of
Pensions of the Interior Department and National Home for Disabled Volunteer Soldiers were
charged with administering these benefits and services (www.va.gov). Then, in 1930, President
Herbert Hoover signed an Executive Order which consolidated these agencies to a federal
administration level and created the Veterans Administration (www.va.gov). Almost seventy years
later, in 1989, the Veterans Administration was then renamed the Department of Veterans Affairs
(www.va.gov). The purpose for establishing the Department of Veterans Affairs ( VA ) has always
been, since inception, and remains to this day, to provide a comprehensive system of assistance for

Who or what is the first thing that comes to mind when the word whiskey is mentioned? Jack

Rebellion ended when President Washington sent close to 13,000 soldiers to the relatively small

The Republicans, led by Jefferson and Madison, were supporters of States rights. They believed that
the American Revolution occurred to free America from British control and allow the creation of
a country led by self governing people. The Federalists, led by Washington and Hamilton, agreed
that the American Revolution took place to free America, but asserted that the newly freed needed
a strong central government to provide guidance. THe debate that occurred over Hamilton s
proposed assumption plan is another prime example of the seat of power dispute. Hamilton
proposed the national government to assume all the states debt incurred from the American
Revolution. Hamilton regarded the national debt as a national blessing, for it permitted the
clustering of resources in the hands of a small group of enterprising men who would invest and
not just spend it. (Page 64) Madison believed this plan to be unfair to the states, mostly southern,
that had already paid back large sums of their respective debts. The assumption proposal therefore
did them an injustice, by compelling them, after having done their duty, to contribute to those states
who have not equally done their duty. (Page 57) The resulting Assumption Bill that was approved
by Congress was a compromise that provided the Republicans the assurance of fairly distributed

The Terminal Stage of the Unification of Germany Essay
At the turn of the 20th century, the nations of Europe had been largely at peace with one another
for nearly 30 years. Yet in a little more than a decade, a massive war engulfed Europe and spread
across the globe. WWI was initiated by the Nationalistic feeling from the multifarious nations,
leading to the rise of militarism and Imperialism, which ultimately guided to the organization of the
alliance systems between the nations. In the late 1800s, the idea of nationalism swept across the
continent of Europe that steered about the Great War such as Russian supporting the Slavic
peoples, assassination of Archduke, and unification of Germany. With the increasing desire for
independence, the Slavic peoples in Bosnia and Herzegovina no longer... Show more content on

With the technological advancements form the previous centuries, the nations began to enhance
their army and military power in order to glorify their nations; hence creating the Von Schlieffen
Plan, German naval law, and Trans Siberian Express. After the assassination of Archduke, war
disrupted between the Russians and the Germans. Meanwhile, the Germans were in war with the
French, so in an attempt to battle two nations at once, the Germans applied the Von Schlieffen Plan.
The Strategy was to defeat France rapidly then turn to the eastern front for a major offensive on
Russia (Dowswell, 35). In 1898 Germany established the naval law which they began making a
naval force that was immense enough to challenge the British navy. In 1906, the British navy
launched the Dreadnought, the first modern battleship; the Dreadnought had greater firepower that
any other ship of its time; Germany rushed to construct on just like it (McCarthy, 369). In the
region of Asia, the Russians fortified their military transportation by building the Trans Siberian
Express. In 1891, Russia began to construct the Trans Siberian Railroad connecting Moscow and
Vladivostok; originally, in the east, the Russians secured Chinese permission to build a line directly
across Manchuria (the Chinese Eastern Railway) from the Transbaikal region to Vladivostok; this
trans Manchurian line was completed in 1901; it was used to transport Russian soldiers for military
purposes and further

Comparing The Book Heart Over Height And Isaiah Austin s...
Hello welcome to my lecture. Today I will be comparing Nate Robinson s autobiography Heart
over height and Isaiah Austin s Autobiography Dream again . The purpose of this lecture is to
compare and analyse the effectiveness to manipulate the audience. Heart over height and Dream
again are both autobiographies written from the perspectives of a current and a former basketball
player.
Heart over height discusses the struggles of being a short athlete in a sport that is dominated by
tall people, to expand on this Nate Robinson is doubted throughout his whole playing career on
the basis of being five foot nine. and if he was only a few inches taller he would have more
respect, Isiah Thomas said it best: If Nate Robinson was 6 feet tall, he d be the No. 1 pick in the
draft. (Robinson). On the other hand in Dream again, Isaiah Austin tells the story of how he is
forced to leave behind his life long dream of playing in the nba, ... Show more content on

During his professional NBA career he played 10 seasons with 8 different teams and is currently
playing overseas in the Israeli basketball league.
Dream again author Isaiah Austin is a former college basketball player who completed his career
as a member of the Baylor university basketball team and was considered a first round selection in
the 2014 NBA draft but unfortunately found out he would be unable to play only a few days before
the draft.
The writing styles presented in both of these books hold similarities like past tense and
descriptiveness, But while reading dream again there was a distinctive positive difference in
terms of the descriptiveness within the writing style and use of language devices like analogies,
for example when describing how he felt when he found out he was positive for marfan
syndrome, he used an analogy of a blindsided tackle on a football field, a unbelievable blow that he

Chekhov s portrayal of women

The stories of Anton Chekhov mark a focal moment in European fiction. This is the point where
19th realist caucus of the short stories started their transformation into modern form. As such, his
work straddles two traditions. The first is that of the anti romantic realism which has a sharp
observation of external social detail. It has human behavior conveyed within tight plot. The second
is the modern psychological realism in which the action in typically internal and expressed in
associative narrative that is built on epiphanic moments. In consideration of the two sides, Chekhov
developed powerful personal styles that presage modernism without losing traditional frills of the
form. This essay will discuss the Chekhov s portrayal of women.
Chekhov in The Name Day Party focuses on Olga and her relationship with her husband, Chekhov
appreciation for women is portrayed (Finke, 2005). Chekhov s work maintains a continuity of
appreciation for the endurance and humaneness of women in the face of afflicted and patriarchal
prejudice that fits in this feminist oriented era. Chekhov, though not liberal or conservative
politically have rejected all theories that generalize about life. Chekhov instead has put his faith in
the people. On another case, the central female characters in The Lady with the Dog have been
portrayed in comparable manner. Dmitri s wife and Anna are portrayed in same light. They are

Once More To The Lake Analysis
Once More To The Lake by E.B White features stylistic and rhetorical strategies such as literary
tone and flashbacks. Through the use of White s flashbacks to his earlier childhood at the lake, the
literary tone of nostalgia and reminiscent sentiment is set. The nostalgic attitude of the work
contributes to the heartfelt tone of the piece as White transports the audience to a meaningful time
in his life. Furthermore, the use of the various flashbacks helps White relate his childhood to his
child, creating a parallel between White and his father, when he was his childs age. Through this
sentimental tone, the overall meaning of the work is created as it displays how time does not
change memories, even if time has changed the present day. Together, these stylistic choices affect
the audience s reactions as the reader is able to identify how the lake represents the authors
unfading and untouchable memories of his younger days.
White s purpose for writing this piece was to describe how memories can not be changed despite
how time changes everything around it. This can be seen when the author states that the middle
road in the dusty field was gone, leaving two roads. Despite this change, the author states that the
way led past the tennis court, and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The piece was written describing White s time at Belgrade Lakes, Maine, where he vacationed as
a child. With this, the audience of the piece was anyone who read Harper s Magazine and had an
interest in White s autobiographical piece about Maine and his time at the Belgrade Lake.
Furthermore, the piece was written during World War II, and highlights a better time in America s
history, where there was no war and kids could be run free without the worries of an ongoing war. It
can be seen that despite the anxiety of war, memories of the past remain tender, and remind the
audience that time passes continuously, but fond memories will unfailingly be

David And Goliath Compare And Contrast
In the poem Casey at Bat and story David and Goliath, a comparison of David and Casey shows
differences and similarities. In the story David and Goliath , David is similar to Casey from Casey
at the Bat because David isn t afraid to lose just like Casey. The text states that David was a sheep
tender, and Casey was a baseball player, their both different but they had one goal, to win! They
both were supposed to win anyway. Another way Casey from Casey at the Bat , and David from
David and Goliath are similar is because they are both boys. They are both boys because the text
states that David was a boy, because who would name their girl David, and Casey is a boy because
girls do not play baseball. This is a fact because people have been to baseball games and seen that
they are boys, girls play softball, boys play baseball.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The text states that Casey s goal was to hit the ball and not let his whole town down, and David s
goal was to kill the giant who was threatening his army and town because he said, ВЁGod will
protect me.ВЁ This is because David and Goliath were very different people with two of the same
goals, 1 to defeat the other opponent, 2 was to make their kingdom happy. In addition, one of the
differences between David from and ВЁDavid and GoliathВЁ and Casey from Casey at the BatВЁ
is that David is from the bible and Casey is a baseball player. This is known because the poem we
read in class about Casey is that he is a baseball player because baseball is the only game that uses
a bat. (and softball (female version of baseball) is too.) Also, David is from the bible because
people have read this story in the bible, so they are both different characters. The second
difference between Casey and David is that David is a young boy, and Casey was a man when he
was playing

  • 2. The Effects Of Music On The Music Industry Before sound recording were possible, music was enjoyed live by watching the performers performing on their instruments in front of you. When sound recording became possible, the way we enjoy music was not limited to watching the performers anymore. By looking at the development of sound reproduction and the devices that are capable of sound playback, we are able to take a look at look on how the production and consumption of music have been affected over the years in terms of portability, affordability and how it affects the music industry. Reproduction of sound has come a long way, dating all the way back to 1855 where French inventor Г‰douard LГ©on Scott de Martinville invented the phonautograph. Even though the phonautograph was not capable of doing a playback of what was recorded, it set the path for sound recording. (Crane, 2015) However, the credit for the records and gramophone that we use today goes to American Inventor Emil Berliner. Despite the innovation, the gramophone did not became commercially popular when it was first invented. It was only until the end of 1897 that the first commercially manufactured disc record appeared in the United States and made the gramophone popular as a mean of entertainment. (Read, 1952) Records then began to be mass produced and distributed for different occasions. Katz (2004) noted: True, mass reproduced art does lack temporal and physical uniqueness, yet reproductions, no longer bound to the circumstances of their creation, many ... • 4. Introduction And Design Of The Study CHAPTER I INTRODUCTION AND DESIGN OF THE STUDY 1.1Introduction Over the last few decades information technology has played an important role in Indian economy. It has affected all the industries especially the banking industry and has provided a way for the banks to differentiate their products and services. The traditional way of financial services delivered to customers called the branch based operations which had been used by the banks for more than 200 years, has been replaced by the advent of multiple technologies and application. For instance, Automated Teller Machine (ATM) displaced cashier tellers, telephone represented by call centers replaced the bank branch, the internet replaced mail, credit cards and electronic cash replaced bank transactions. The reason was the numerous key advantages that banks could gain by providing electronic banking services. In this way they had lower transactions cost, 24 hour trading, more extended business territory and also increased efficiency in daily banking process. The Banking Sector is also facing very stiff competition. In order to succeed such competition, they must offer a wide array of products with the latest technology. At present many banks and financial institutions are actively developing new electronic banking products for their customers throughout the world (Alagheband 2006) . The key players of banking industry are its customers and all the efforts made by the banks are to satisfy the desirable needs of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. What Role Does Matter Play In Making Social Worlds Secure What role does matter play in making social worlds secure or insecure? Illustrate your answer with reference to any two chapters from Security: Sociology and Social Worlds Within the natural world security is very fundamental to survival and living things gravitate towards it. Basic needs such as air, food, water, disease avoidance and shelter from the elements are vital. Within the social world like the natural it forms the basis to which people and society can function well, and explains why security is of primary concern through all spheres of said society. This assignment seeks to look at the role matter plays in making social worlds secure or insecure. This will be done by uncovering that which is often taken for granted about the role materiality plays in the social world through theories, concepts and examples of security in various settings such as the individual, the home, the city and other parts of society. Matter is often defined as mass that can be physically observed by the senses, it can be measured scientifically and is tangible , it could be said the material world unlike aspects of social worlds is less abstract and easier to define, for example a building which comprises of bricks, wood, metal and other materials built into a specific shape compared to a community which can relate to people of the same place or shared values or interests or all. That is not to say that matter just is, it too can have agency and varying meanings dependent upon the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Theories Of Discourse Ethics 1. Discourse ethics is a branch of ethics that attempts to establish or understand ethical truths by examining conceptions and presuppositions that we have about the nature of language. It is important in a course like Philosophy of Human Communication because it is applied when there are at least two speaking subjects engaged in the to and fro of human dialogue. 2. Walter Kaufmann says the manifold is frightening because the nature of reality is manifold or unsettled, chaotic, or multi faceted. This is why people feel dread when they have a wealth of possibilities (Kaufmann, 1996, pg. 9). People would much rather have fewer choices, which is why we can point to religion and how there is a good, and evil. There are two choices to make and they offer a single choice that is easy to make because the other is a path that is condemned to live in eternal hell.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Mundus vult decipi means the world wants to be deceived (Kaufmann, 1996, pg. 9). The truth is too complex and frightening so we lie to ourselves in order to cover over the frightening manifold of things. Kaufmann discusses the hierarchy of deceptions on the higher level we find fictions that men eagerly believe, regardless of the evidence, because they gratify some wish. Close to the top of the ladder people encounter curious mixtures of untruth and truth that exert a lasting fascination on the intellectual community (Kaufmann, 1996, pg. 10). 4. Thinking in terms of dualisms can be explained simply by saying we see things in terms of dichotomous categories. These categories such as good and evil, right and wrong, true and false, mind and body, man and woman. When you think of dualisms such as right and wrong there is always one side that is superior to the other. Good is superior to bad just as truth is superior to something that is false. If we break reality down in a dualist approach we can create the illusion that we have control over reality. We have control of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. United States Election Project Headed By Dr. Michael... This past weekend, mid term elections took place nationwide. According to the United States Election Project headed by Dr. Michael McDonald at University of Florida, with just a voter turnout of 36.4%, it was the lowest overall turnout since World War II which occurred 70 years ago. Mid term elections are congressional electionsthat occur halfway through the president s term. Congressional ballots are held every two years and all House of Representative seats are contested as well as one third of Senate seats. Most state legislature and governor elections(about thirty six out of fifty states) occur the same day(M.D.). These elections have the ability to change the way America is governed. For example, with the 1994 mid term elections that occurred during President Clinton s reign came a power shift within the House and the Senate from Democrats to Republicans. This power shift resulted in the reform of the welfare system. Therefore, it is important for people, especially minorities, to exercise the right to vote. In recent history, there has been a reported decrease in voter turnout for both minor and major elections such as mid term and presidential elections. Some of the causes for this decrease are inequality, social capital and election day conditions; all of which minorities are subject to. Most of whom we consider to be regular voters,or those that are sure to vote, are wealthy, older, educated, white, and church attending people. They are usually more involved in ... • 8. Essay about Orson Welles The Magnificent Ambersons The biggest mistake we have made is to consider that films are primarily a form of entertainment. The film is the greatest medium since the invention of movable type for exchanging ideas and information, and it is no more at its best in light entertainment than literature is at its best in the light novel. Orson Welles Orson Welles was passionate about film. By the young ageof 25, he had directed, produced, and starred in what is today considered by most to be the greatest movie ever made, Citizen Kane. About a year later, Welles began work on his next film project, The Magnificent Ambersons. Welles wrote the script of The Ambersons in nine days (McBride53). The film was to be financed by the production company RKO/ Mercury. A major problem arouse with the budget before shooting began. Because of the shrinking international film market, RKO had set a maximum budget in Welles contract of $600,000 for The Magnificent Ambersons (Higham213). Also, according to the arrangement that RKO had made with its bank, no film from the studio was ever to exceed $750,000. A pre budget estimate of Ambersons came close to one million dollars. Pared down to more details in its final form just before shooting, the film looked as if it would still cost in excess of $850,000. Permission to proceed with production was eventually granted, but with strict rules to Welles to bring the cost down to under the $750,000 figure (Higham 214). The Magnificent Ambersons is a Historical Epic Drama based on a time almost 70 years prior to its making. In order to cast the film, Welles read a delineation of the characters Tarkington had given in a 1917 issue of Metropolitan Magazine (Brady 316). The silent star Dolores Costello was brought out of retirement to play Isabel Amberson. Welles also made the surprising choice of selecting contract player Tim Holt for the role of George Minafer. • 9. Fluorescent Protein Coding Regions Of Species Of The... Fluorescent Protein coding regions of species of the Cnidarian phyla, will be subjected to an evolutionary analysis focusing on gene duplication, expansion and divergence. This will allow the evolutionary processes that led to the development of these gene become clear. Changes due to mutations and other factors which occurr in DNAsequences cause variation of genes over evolutionary time. Characterisation of fluorescent proteins across sister phyla will allow accurate conclusion of the origins of such proteins. It is suspected that gene expansion across evolutionary time resulted in the diversification of the fluorescent genes to exhibit a vast array of colours seen across today s Cnidaria. One phyla of particular interest in the Cnidarians, with their vast colour array of their fluorophores. The results were inconclusive and the hypothesis was not answered. Key Words: Cnidarian, Zoanthid, green fluorescent protein, evolution, gene expansion Introduction The first thing to note is luminescence is a generalized term describing the production of visual light with a lack of radiant heat termed cold light . Three main categories describe the types of luminescence (please refer to Table 1); biological, chemical and physical. • 10. Technology And Its Impact On The Medical Field In the world we live in today technology is always advancing; having many great effects in our personal lives and in the medical field, one of which being the technical advances on magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). MRIs have been a great resource for us to use to help diagnose people in a way we have never been able to before. A magnetic resonance imaging scan uses a large magnet, radio waves, and a computer to create a detailed cross sectional image of the patient s internal organs and structures, (Lam). Being able to examine patients in a noninvasive way and take pictures of what their organs look like is a huge medical advance proving to us that we can help diagnose more people in a less harmful way and are able to treat them faster and give them a better prognosis. But we cannot forget what came before the MRI, which was nuclear resonance imaging (NMR). NMR is the key piece to magnetic resonance imaging and if it weren t for the discovery of NMR and it s many uses we wouldn t have MRI scanners. The evolution of MRIs has left a profound impact on the scientific community, particularly in the field of medicine. Before bringing up the topic of MRI scanners it would be useful to have some background information on the science behind it all. Starting with nuclear resonance imaging, what it is, the discovery itself, and how it became relevant to the topic of MRI scanners. A lot of readers that I know tend to think critically because it allows them to dissect what is written and gain more from a story aside from the normal enjoyment of just reading the book. People cheat in many things: school, sports, and, but not limited to, relationships. But there is many ways to cheat in those multiple examples, like in sports you can cheat with: drugs, academic eligibility, or even through recruiting. The topic of this paper is college basketball and cheating. What makes college basketball coachesbreak the rules, is it worth the penalty you might ultimately face? Roy Williams has had an unproven history of not obeying the academic rules, but he was actually caught in 2004. One of his players, Rashad McCants, recently came out and said Roy did cheat. Rashad McCants, a North Carolina basketball player from 2002 2005 was one of the leading scores on the 2005 National Champion UNC team, who said he participated in Roy Williams academic scandal. He was drafted by the Minnesota Timberwolves and then ended up being unsigned in the league by the year 2009, admitted to taking bogus classes designed to help athletes stay academically eligible (Delsohn). Rashad McCants is the only person who came out against Roy Williams in the academic scandal. The classes Rashad McCants referred to recently were exposed in his interview with Steve Delsohn, a writer for ESPN. The Purpose Of Tort Law The essential purpose and most basic principle of tort law is that the plaintiff must be placed in the position he or she would have been in absent the defendant s fault or negligence. It is impossible to fully restore the plaintiff, as he will never be fully restored. However, compensation is the best way to put the plaintiff back into his original position. Even though most resources of the tort system are spent on dealing with claims, it is a very slow process as it is so complex because it involves many parties. The court system does not seem to base their judgment on legal elements and legal facts but a major consideration on public policy and interest. This can be seen in Barnett v Chelsea Kensington Hospital , where the ratio is that the patient would have died anyway in spite of the doctor s examination. To impose a liability on the doctor would give rise to many claims, involving many unnecessary claims. However, doctors duty is to examine a patient and decide on the plan of treatment, where in this case, the doctor did not even examine the patient. The reluctance of the court to impose a liability on public bodies can also be seen in Alcock v Chief Constable of South Yorkshire Police . The court was reluctant to impose a liability on the police force, even when the Taylor Report reported that the accident was caused by the negligence of the police force, as they let too many supporters in. There are enough facts in these two cases to impose a liability on the doctor and the police department respectively, however, the reluctant approach from the court towards public bodies have resulted in unsuccessful claims in these two cases. As the pressure grew, new nationalistic groups were created, and sometimes they would act as a terrorist organization, just like the FLN group. • 17. Deviance Is A Existence Of Social Deviance In Society Everyone once in a lifetime breaks a social norm, or shows some kind of act of deviance. Deviance is a violation of social norms, it can be relative. Most of the time, what is deviant to some people is not deviant to others. Howard Becker explained that deviance is not the act itself, but the reactions to the act. For example, praying at a party; nothing is wrong with praying, but people will look at you like you are crazy because you usually don t see anybody praying at a party, this is violating a social norm. Social norms are the rules of behavior that are considered acceptable in a group or society. People who do not follow these norms may be shunned or suffer some kind of consequence. Therefore, this relates back to the example praying at a party, people may not talk to you because you are praying at a party; this is a consequence of violating the social norm. The mild social norms I violated were, not holding the door for the people behind me, being quiet around close friends, and asking my parents for permission to do everything. Most of the time I usually hold the door for people behind me, but for the experiment I didn t hold the door for others. I always hated when people didn t hold the door for me when I am behind them. Therefore, I knew how some people would react to my behavior. When I got to school one morning, as I was opening the door I saw my principle behind me, so I decided to do the experiment on her; I waited till she got behind me to open the door. As I went through the door, I didn t hold the door for her, I quickly looked at her facial expression, and she wasn t very pleased. This experiment made feel bad because I usually hold the door for others. I realized that our society really care about this norm because of her reaction to me. I m always a talkative, outgoing, fun, and loud kind of person. So not talking around my close friends was really hard to do. As I was doing this experiment, I observed my friends reactions. They were talking about different things, I never engaged in the conversation. Then they started asking me, Are you okay Tania? , Is something wrong? , and Is you mad at us? In the short story we are introduced to the father Mike who has lost his job in corporate finance and is on his way home to tell his family. The reveal of the bad news to his dysfunctional and materialistic family is constantly being put off by his family s constant demand of new and better things such as guitars or televisions. This constant demand is one of the major themes in the short story and is shown to be the root of all the problems in Mike s family. But even the mother who is the family member most outraged by this incident, is not free from the grasp of capitalism and materialism. After reprimanding Mike she goes on to say that he owes his youngest son a guitar and other musical instruments. So even with a violent father attacking his own son, the only thing on the family s mind is things, things and more things. Capitalism has been around for a very long time and with it comes a burning desire for economic and materialistic improvement that overshadows everything ells. This is the decline the West is faced with. We become so obsessed with materialistic accretion that we forget all the things that might actually mean a lot to us, such as our family or our own ... Sir, oh sir, those slacks look stunning on you, did you know that an engineer at Harvard designed them for longevity and comfort? Of course this probably is not true, but with a name like Structure, anything is possible. • 24. Similarities Between The Rome And The Han Dynasty The Han Dynasty and Imperial Rome were two greatly advanced civilizations for their time period and their success was no fluke. Both dynasties gained their success through a handful of varying ideas and strategies involving the economy, military, and social structures. However, one of the greatest factors that determined the respective dynasty s futures was their methods of political control. The Han Dynastyand Roman Empireagreed on some major aspects and ideas of politics, but also had diverging views on a few subjects. For example, one major topic both groups disagreed on is the form of government. Some examples of subjects they both agreed on was the focus on infrastructure and trade. One thing that most major political states throughout history can agree on is the importance of trading, not only within the state but with outside states as well. Both the Roman Empire and the Han Dynasty were large participants in trade, not only within their states but with outside states as well. The Han Dynasty exemplifies this by showing their great amount of effort to get involved in the Silk Road. The Han Dynasty went to the extent of expanding the wall into the route of the Silk Road. Metaphorically speaking, this is the Han Dynasty s way of sticking their foot in the Silk Road and regional trade. This was first done in the Han Dynasty because the leaders knew the necessity for trade and its power to keep their government and society thriving. The Romans were also greatly ... The Beginnings of Newnham College When liberal reformers presented proposals for women to attend university, they were greeted with incredulity; so radical and extreme was the concept in the 19th century. However, pioneering liberals are nothing if not persistent and in 1871 Newnham College was formed by philosopher Henry Sidgwick, a fellow at Trinity, along with his future wife Eleanor Balfour, local suffragist Millicent Garrett Fawcett, and the college s first principal Anne Clough. The Association for Promoting the Higher Education for Women in Cambridge had done a lot of lobbying but was considered high minded by Sidgwick for totally ignoring such practical considerations as student accommodation. To this end he set up Newnham Hall Company Ltd with the stated aim of building an approved boarding house. Started life as a hostel Originally situated at 74 Regent Street, the college was a hostel for five women who wished to attend university lectures, a privilege granted at the discretion of the lecturer. Following an increase in demand the hostel moved to Merton House at Queen s Road, then settled at its current home at Newnham in 1875. More importantly it was a symbol of rebirth and hope, and in some anglo saxon cultures it was a sign of longevity to see the ashes of a fire bird and a sign of peace to see one reborn. This novel utilizes the method of using letters and other documents in order to tell the story. The application of the epistolary technique in the story Dracula proves to be quite effective because it does enable the reader to foresee the happenings in the story on a closer and more personal scale. In this novel, the man who writes the letters in Transylvania experiences a vast amount of supernatural experiences. Within the first four chapters of Dracula, Jonathan Harker witnesses supernatural occurrence s such as seeing flickering blue lights, how Jonathan Harker s coachman magically made the were wolves disappear, and how he cannot see the Count Dracula s reflection in the mirror. In the novel Dracula, Jonathan Harker tries to overlook these supernatural occurrences because of Mr. Hawkins interest. The novel Dracula also has many other supernatural aspects such as the three women in Count Dracula s house, and how Count Dracula proceeds down the walls in a lizard like manner. THe debate that occurred over Hamilton s proposed assumption plan is another prime example of the seat of power dispute. Hamilton proposed the national government to assume all the states debt incurred from the American Revolution. Hamilton regarded the national debt as a national blessing, for it permitted the clustering of resources in the hands of a small group of enterprising men who would invest and not just spend it. (Page 64) Madison believed this plan to be unfair to the states, mostly southern, that had already paid back large sums of their respective debts. The assumption proposal therefore did them an injustice, by compelling them, after having done their duty, to contribute to those states who have not equally done their duty. • 46. Once More To The Lake Analysis Once More To The Lake by E.B White features stylistic and rhetorical strategies such as literary tone and flashbacks. Through the use of White s flashbacks to his earlier childhood at the lake, the literary tone of nostalgia and reminiscent sentiment is set. The nostalgic attitude of the work contributes to the heartfelt tone of the piece as White transports the audience to a meaningful time in his life. Furthermore, the use of the various flashbacks helps White relate his childhood to his child, creating a parallel between White and his father, when he was his childs age. Through this sentimental tone, the overall meaning of the work is created as it displays how time does not change memories, even if time has changed the present day. Together, these stylistic choices affect the audience s reactions as the reader is able to identify how the lake represents the authors unfading and untouchable memories of his younger days. White s purpose for writing this piece was to describe how memories can not be changed despite how time changes everything around it. This can be seen when the author states that the middle road in the dusty field was gone, leaving two roads. Despite this change, the author states that the way led past the tennis court, and ... In the story David and Goliath , David is similar to Casey from Casey at the Bat because David isn t afraid to lose just like Casey. The text states that David was a sheep tender, and Casey was a baseball player, their both different but they had one goal, to win! They both were supposed to win anyway. Another way Casey from Casey at the Bat , and David from David and Goliath are similar is because they are both boys. They are both boys because the text states that David was a boy, because who would name their girl David, and Casey is a boy because girls do not play baseball. This is a fact because people have been to baseball games and seen that they are boys, girls play softball, boys play baseball.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The text states that Casey s goal was to hit the ball and not let his whole town down, and David s goal was to kill the giant who was threatening his army and town because he said, ВЁGod will protect me.ВЁ This is because David and Goliath were very different people with two of the same goals, 1 to defeat the other opponent, 2 was to make their kingdom happy. In addition, one of the differences between David from and ВЁDavid and GoliathВЁ and Casey from Casey at the BatВЁ is that David is from the bible and Casey is a baseball player. This is known because the poem we read in class about Casey is that he is a baseball player because baseball is the only game that uses a bat. (and softball (female version of baseball) is too.) Also, David is from the bible because people have read this story in the bible, so they are both different characters. The second difference between Casey and David is that David is a young boy, and Casey was a man when he was playing ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
