Ambitious GE managers kept their ties knotted and their mouths shut. The mounting expense of
this bureaucracy was a major reason GE became a high cost producer, vulnerable to foreign
competition. The complex interaction of GE s culture, organization, and bureaucracy created a
symphony of not so subtle signals that taught GEers how to behave. But as Jones realized,
behavior that has been appropriate in 1878 or even 1978 might prove disastrous in the 1980s. In
an attempt to ensure fair treatment of its workers, GE had assigned all employees to one of twenty
nine civil service style levels of rank.

replacing him with a former show salesman named Charles Coffin. In 1892, Coffin reorganized the
burgeoning portfolio of business under his command into the General Electric Company. Coffin.
Coffin became known as the father of professional management. (p.44) He also ordered a massive

3. Who Is John s Identity In Brave New World
In a futuristic utopian society in which people are grown as nearly identical embryos in bottles,
finding someone who is a complete outcast from the rest of society is rare. In Brave New World,
the author, Aldous Huxley, makes John an exception. Isolated, disengaged, and rejected, John is
truthfully not apart of the civilized World State culture or the savage Indian culture. Being the only
person in the book not born in a laboratory, John additionally stands to represent a unique human
being whose identity and family relationships violate all the other s societal ideals. His experience
with exile was alienating for his relationships with people yet enriching, at times, for his self
expression. The thought of isolating one s self is frowned... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Two of the World State beliefs that John feels the strongest opposed to include soma distribution
and sex. John believes that soma is a sedating drug which the government gives to the civilized
in order to distract them from their unhappiness and noticing something is wrong within their
society. The people take soma for comfort without realizing the enslaving nature the soma
withholds. John picks this up in Chapter 15 of the novel when he throws the Delta s soma out
the window saying, Don t you even understand what manhood and freedom are. (page 213) John
also disagrees with the World State s view on sex, which can be partially attributed to his reading
of Shakespeare work. In the various books John has read, Shakespeare talks about sex as if it is
a special activity for two people who love each other and intend to marry. On the other hand, the
World State strongly encourages erotic play for people of all ages as strictly a form of
entertainment. If it was anything more, such as emotional bonding, it would destabilize the world
the controllers have constructed. She was a popular girl and, at one time or another, had spent a
night with almost all of them. ( page 57) This quote supports John s belief that sex is a casual and

4. A Primer On Social Movement Summary
In A Primer on Social Movements, David A. Snow and Sarah A. Soule identify five conditions
for a social movement to be considered as such. First, a social movement has to challenge existing
systems of authority, or defend existing structures (Snow, D. A., Soule, 2010). Idle No More meets
this criterion in that the movement was born in response to changes in laws by the Canadian
federal government that were to jeopardize the protection of rivers, lakes and the lands ( 9
Questions, 2013). For the First Nation members of the group, their motivation to advocate resulted
from personal troubles, or in other words, feeling their personal values to be threatened. But when it
is something as elementary as nature that is in danger, it goes beyond

5. Automated Medication Dispensing Devices
Chapter 11. Automated Medication Dispensing Devices Michael D. Murray, PharmD, MPH Purdue
University School of Pharmacy Background In the 1980s, automated dispensing devices appeared
on the scene, a generation after the advent of unit dose dispensing (Chapter 11). The invention and
production of these devices brought hopes of reduced rates of medication errors, increased
efficiency for pharmacy and nursing staff, ready availability of medications where they are most
often used (the nursing unit or inpatient ward), and improved pharmacy inventory and billing
functions.1 4 Although the capacity of such systems to contribute to patient safety appears great,
surprisingly few studies have evaluated the clinical impact of these devices.... Show more content

Hospitals with automated centralized pharmacies reported that greater than 50% of their inpatient
doses were dispensed via centralized automated systems. Half of all responding hospitals used a
decentralized medication storage system. One third of hospitals with automated storage and
dispensing systems were linked to the pharmacy computer. Importantly, about half of the surveyed
hospitals reported drug distributions that bypassed the pharmacy including floor stock, borrowing
patients medications, and hidden drug supplies. Study Designs There were no true randomized
trials. One crossover study of the McLaughlin dispensing system randomized nurses to work with
the intervention medication system or the control 112 system.5 We classified this as a Level 2
study, since, from the patient perspective, the design is that of a non randomized trial. Other
studies included in this review consisted of retrospective observational studies with before after6

orally administered medications, and were published between 1984 and 1995 (see Table 12.1).

7. Symbolism In An Occurrence At Owl Creek Bridge
Bierce s method to create illusion by using death and war in An Occurrence at Owl Creek Bridge
Ambrose Bierce assisted in the Union Army during the American Civil War during the 19th
century as a topographical officer. He wrote An Occurrence at Owl Creek Bridge after he served
in the army, where he had a traumatic injury in which a thin layer separated him from death. This
short story is placed during this war; therefore, Bierce gives us the closest thing to a first hand
account of dying and his view about war. The text begins with a tied man, Peyton Farquhar,
standing on a bridge in Alabama where he is going to be hanged from. Bierce does not follow a
linear structure; instead he uses a disrupted structure; so after presenting us the man ... Show more

He explores issues of consciousness, awareness, dying, and the afterlife; and tries to describe
what death is like: Death is a dignitary who when he comes announced is to be received with
formal manifestations of respect, even by those most familiar with him. (Bierce 1). This
quotation represents the moment before Peyton s hanging, watched by soldiers. Farquhar knows
that he is going to die, but he does not want to accept it, so he invents a fantasy where he
survives and escapes from the sentinels. If we watch carefully to the details Bierce uses to
describe every moment of the story, we can observe that according to 2006 Second Place Critical
Analysis On An Occurrence at Owl Creek Bridge these details are so specific and superfluous, that
can detract from the reality, so any suspicion that Peyton is imagining this series of events seems
to vanish away since no person could have such a detailed perception of things imagined in such
a panic state. Thus, in this sense, Bierce s ability to achieve the shock ending is linked with the
minute details included throughout the short story (4). The way Bierce has to describe death
makes the reader feel closer to the main character, Farquhar Peyton, and adds new ideas of what
people think dying is like, losing the binding definition of death. Hence, the large detailed
description of how passing away is like, interferes in the audience s thoughts making them believe
that Peyton s fantasy is

8. Dred Scott V. Sanford
In the history of the United States Supreme Court, there are a multitude of cases that have left an
indelible mark in the tapestry of American history, culture, and society. Among these landmark
disputes may be found issues as divisive as reproductive health, fundamental economic freedoms,
the power of the Supreme Court and, of course, race. Among these, Dred Scott v. Sanford
occupies a special place. Often called as the worst decision made by the Supreme Court , Dred
Scott v. Sanford provided an impetus for slavers to continue an injustice that had existed since the
colonial era . By deciding the way it did, the United States Supreme Court also created a divide
between the northern and southern states a divide so great that it eventually led to the American
Civil War. Such an enormous effect on the sentiment of the times warrants a closer look at the
decisions of the justices involved in the Dred Scott decision. Doing so will also shed light into the
intricate logic behind the justices decisions essentially the reasons why they concurred or dissented
from the main opinion written by Chief Justice Roger B. Taney. The process of interrogating the
Supreme Court s interpretation of the Constitution will also reveal the fundamental societal
sentiment regarding slavery and African Americans at the time. Dred Scott was an African
American slave that sued for his and his family s freedom, relying on his claim that his ownership

11. Industrial Revolution and Social Changes
Introduction:
Between 1760 and 1860, technological progress, education, and an increasing capital stock
transformed England into the workshop of the world. The industrial revolution, as the
transformation came to be called, caused a sustained rise in real income per person in England and,
as its effects spread, the rest of the Western world. Historians agree that the industrial revolution
was one of the most important events in history, marking the rapid transition to the modern age, but
they disagree about various aspects of the event. Of all the disagreements, the oldest one is over
how the industrial revolution affected ordinary people, usually called the working classes. One
group, the pessimists, argues that the living standards of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Britain emerged from the Napoleonic Wars as the only European nation not ravaged by financial
plunder and economic collapse, and possessing the only merchant fleet of any useful size
(European merchant fleets having been destroyed during the war by the Royal navy Britain s
extensive exporting cottage industries also ensured markets were already available for many early
forms of manufactured goods. The conflict resulted in most British warfare being conducted
overseas, reducing the devastating effects of territorial conquest that affected much of Europe. This
was further aided by Britain s geographical position an island separated from the rest of mainland
Europe.
Another theory is that Britain was able to succeed in the Industrial Revolution due to the
availability of key resources it possessed. It had a dense population for its small geographical
size. Enclosure of common land and the related agricultural revolution made a supply of this
labour readily available. There was also a local coincidence of natural resources in the North of
England, the English Midlands, South Wales and the Scottish Lowlands. Local supplies of coal,

12. Septic Shock Research Paper
Septic shock is the stage of sepsis when multiple organ failure is evident and uncontrolled bleeding
of the body occurs. Septic shock results from the complication of an infection where toxins initiate
a full body inflammatory response. Viral, fungal, and bacterial infections can all lead to septic
shock, but the most common causes of sepsisare gram negative bacteriaand gram positive bacteria.
Sepsis causes severe hypovolemic shock and hypodynamic cardiac function to affect the body,
platelets and clotting factors are consumed and thus the body cannot clot blood. Capillary leak
occurs and cardiac contractility is poor from cellular ischemia (Ignatavicius Workman, 2011). For a

Diagnosis is often made with a blood test. This type of test can determine if any of the following
factors are present: bacteria in the blood, problems with clotting due to low platelet count,
excess waste products in the blood, abnormal liver or kidney function, decreased amount of
oxygen, or electrolyte imbalance. Depending on your symptoms and the results of the blood
test, there are other tests that a doctor may want to perform to determine the source of your
infection. Other tests that can be performed include: urine test, wound secretion test (if you have
an open area that looks infected), mucus secretion test (to see what type of germ is behind the
infection), or a brain and spinal fluid test. In cases where the source of the infection is not clear
from the tests, a doctor might want to get an internal view of your body using X rays, computed
tomography scan, ultrasound or a magnetic resonance imaging. X rays allow a doctor to get a
good view of the lungs while a computed tomography (CT) scans provides a view of possible
infections in the appendix, pancreas, or bowel areas. An ultrasound shows a view of infections in
the gallbladder or ovaries and the magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) gives doctors a view of any
soft tissue infections, such as spinal

Phantom, a very popular comics superhero is adapted in various forms of media including,

not only in the deep woods of Africa but also in the urbanscapes wherever crime looms large. The
Phantom series first came out in the daily newspaper strips on seventeenth February, 1936, was
followed by a colour strip which came out on Sunday in May 1939. When the creator of

After the publication of Phantom, the aspects of colonial / postcolonial, ethnic / Eurocentric
discourses, which were almost forgotten, began to pop up as in those belts of Australia where there
were aboriginal settlements for whom Phantom became an icon and thus they loved to read these
comics and idolise their hero. But the truth is that the brutalities of European settlement in Australia
is kept under the pretext of Terra Nullius2 and a peaceful process which finds its apt expression
through the Phantom comics where the white man s arrival and settlement on a non European
space and building an empire is related in a way of cross cultural interaction, intimacy and
hospitality.
In colonial and post colonial British literature the phantom or ghost is a recurrent figure that
symbolises the repressed trauma attendant to colonisation that haunts protagonists in novels such as
Defoe s Robinson Crusoe and Brontes juvenilia. The famous comic strip The Phantom by Lee Falk
naturalised this figure, making him into a normal man who fabricated a belief in his immortality.
Referred to as The Ghost Who Walks, his headquarters was in a cave, which also contained his
vast treasure. The Phantom ruled the natives of Africa and India, who superstitiously believed that
he was a white god who had lived for centuries. In 1525, the first Phantom swore an oath to fight
the pirates who had killed his father and to battle all evil. Each subsequent

OF HUMANITY
One of the most important themes, in fact the major theme of the book is an attempt to trace back
the defects of society to the defects of human nature . The moral is that the shape of society must
depend on the ethical nature of individuals and not on any political system. William Golding uses
Ralph and Jack as the leaders of the boys to represent different leadership styles, in order to
accomplish his massage.Throughout the novel he uses symbolism that gives a reader better
comprehension of his ideas and concepts. The symbols, such as the conch, Piggy s glasses, the pig

Jack seeks for power above all other things. He is angry when he loses elections of leadership to
Ralph and continually spread his character in the group. His desire of authority and violence are
closely related, as both enable him to feel superior. The group is becoming involved in the casting
off moral restraint and embracing violence and savagery.
According to my perspective, Jack should have allowed Ralph to lead and help him through
instead of opposing him because they had the same obligation which is to get rescued. By so doing
the instinct of savagery and violence could have been avoided, to promote humanity among the
group.
The values to be shown workplace is to promote Ubuntu, integrity, diversity respect for
environment, excellence and responsibility. These values are reflected throughout the novel
using characters in Lord of the flies. Firstly Ubuntu I would say is represented by Piggy as he
did not have hatred against any boy in the group. Sam and Eric showed Ubuntu when Ralph
sneaked down to the camp at the castle rock and they gave him food. Simon sitting between the

There is a strong connection between the senses and the formation of our perception. Traditionally,
the sense categories are known as sight, smell, sound, taste and touch. The modern perspective
views the senses as systems in which information about our external world is acquired; visual,
auditory, olfactory, gestation and haptic (tactile) systems. Architecture in the sense of
environmental design is the art of nourishing these senses. In order to receive information from the
environment, each sense organ is part of a sensory systemwhich receives and transmits sensory

The smell receptors interact with the molecules of these vapors and transmit sensations to the
brain. We need only a little amount of molecules of substance to trigger an impulse of smell in a
nerve end, and we can smell more than ten thousand different scents. If it is a new scent it is
possible to remember the scent and identify it again later. The scent captures one s memory of
the place; the nose makes the eyes remember. For the blind people, the sense of smell can help
awareness of one s location. Odour can also relate to hunger and the desire to consume. Since it
is not possible to name all the odours, spatial qualities or experiences are often associated with
scents. Positive experiences of smell can be used in design to induce positive memories or
associations to a space, while negative smells can do the opposite. Bringing certain smells into a
designed space can immediately stimulate emotions, guide us, or distract us. Designer Valerie
Trent cites research that connects smell and memory; People can often recall aromas from
childhood or a distinctive odor they ve only smelled once. Whatever your particular nose prefers,

20. Critical Analysis Of The Man He Killed
In this poem, The Man He Killed , the poet Thomas Hardy explores a complex theme, which is
war, using the simplest language. Throughout this essay I will be discussing the thoughts and
opinions Hardy has on war.
The Man He Killed was written in the nineteenth century during the Boer War that took place in
South Africa in 1898. This war was because the British Empire wanted to take control over the
land because of its rich gold and diamonds. The poem is written in a conversational tone, with
speech marks, making us feel that the soldier is talking directly to us reminiscing about killing a
foe whilst at war. The speaker in this poem is a man of low class who was unemployed and had
already sold all his possessions and consequently had no choice but to join the army; this can be
seen when the man states just as I was out of work had sold his traps . Hardy is showing us that
some people join the army just out of desperation not because they believe in the political side of
war. These unemployed, low classed people have no other way of earning the money to help them
survive so they turn to the only other option the have joining the army. The speaker is forced to kill
another man which he claims was his foe and later on realises that he and the man had a lot in
common.
During this poem the man is forced to kill another man and the repetition of because implies
hesitation and uncertainty about why he shot the man. He tries to reassure himself by saying just

21. The Rail Line Extension Of The Metro Bus System
Minneapolis has been ranked as one of the worst areas in the United States when it comes to
traffic. Drivers in the Twin Cities spend an average of 63 hours per year stuck in traffic
according to a 2015 survey done by TomTom, a GPS navigation company. In hopes of solving the
traffic problem, the first rail line in Minnesota opened back in 2004. Since then there has been a
Green Line extension from St. Paul to Minneapolis. The original Blue Line provided 10.6 million
rides as of last year and the Green Line has provided 12.4 million rides. Both lines have
contributed to the decrease to the overall ridership of the Metro bus system. Due to the success of
the Minneapolis light railsystem there has been plans to expand it even further.
In May 2010, a southwest Green Line extension was finally approved. The southwest light rail
would extend the green line fourteen and a half miles. Adding sixteen new stations beginning in
downtown Minneapolis and running through St. Louis Park, Hopkins, Minnetonka, and Eden
Prairie. The total estimated cost for the project is $1.858 billion, costing the state of Minnesota a
total of $30.3 million. The rest of the funding comes from various sources such as Counties Transit
Improvement Board, Hennepin Country Regional Railroad Authority, Metropolitan Council, in
kind land transfers, and other local contributions. Construction is set to start in 2017 and end by
2021 if light rail is allowed to continue. This costly project has been approved and

The study The Relationships between Life Events and Mental Health in Homosexual Men by
Michael W. Ross ¬¬¬goes into detail about previous research, relevant information, and his
purpose within the introduction. Ross explains that that there is a large amount of literature on the
testing of homosexual populations. While some studies have found differences in psychological
adjustment between homosexual and heterosexual groups whereas others have not. One piece of
previous research was done by Atkinson who found that gay men with or without HIVinfection had
significantly higher rates of anxiety and major depressive illness throughout their lives. Weinberg
and Williams study demonstrated that extrinsic factors (nutrition, heat, cold, altitude, clothing, and
extended operations) caused lower psychosocial adjustment by examining homosexual men in three
societies with different reactions to homosexuality, which ranged from relatively accepting to
unaccepting. However, there were no significant differences detected on measures of psychological
adjustment. The author describes one main piece of background information that is relevant to this
study. Sagarin and Kelly who summarize the contradiction that one cannot maintain that
homosexual men are no different in psychological adjustment than heterosexual men, and that
psychological maladjustment in homosexual men is a result of social stigmatization. This
information is relevant because there is probably a significant relationship

23. James Cook Was A Man Of Many Accomplishments
James Cook was a man of many accomplishments. As an 18th century explorer and navigator,
Captain Cook discovered, mapped, and charted New Zealand and Australia on his ship
Endeavor. Later, his voyages provided the first accurate map of the Pacific. Scholar, Alistair
Maclean wrote, it was not what Cook said or thought that raised him to the ranks of the
immortals: it was what he did (Maclean 11). Cooks vast accomplishments have been studied and
analyzed by many historians, one of whom even dedicated four decades of his life on his research
of Cook. Some think that James Cookwas a genius (Beaglehole 702), as well as the last of the
great early navigators and the first of the modern scientific explorers (Gould 15). Most historians
would agree with these statements but still question some of his actions. Other historians, question
his findings, accomplishments, and legacy. The present paper will examine books and articles
written by historians in different time periods to get a sense of the legacy of Captain James Cook
and its controversies.
Although many books have been written about James Cook, many scholars view Beaglehole s
The Life of Captain James Cook as the acknowledged classic work on the subject matter. His 750
page book, published in 1974, is filled with definitive descriptions and great detail regarding
Captain Cook and his career. Beaglehole spent over forty years of his life (twenty of which were
spent in archival collection and study) researching

24. Poe s Writing Technique And Style
I have always been interested in Poe s poems and his writing technique and style. I had first
learnt about him when I had started off high school. My teacher had assigned me one of his
poems and I had to memorize it for class and then recite it. Ironically enough I was assigned The
Raven, one of his more famous poems. Ever since then I have been hooked at reading his stories
and the rest of his poems, but sadly I didn t have enough time, well not until today that is.
The first ever poem, or ever time I have heard about Edgar Allan Poe was in my 9th grade reading
class I don t really know much about Poe. Even when it was just another boring assignment I was
interested. The way he captures tragedy and the way he just write his stories is so fascinating to
me. I love the way his writing style was so dark and mysterious and I loved it even more that he
didn t only just write poems but short stories too. Edgar is truly and inspiration and I have
recently decided to write this I Search Essay on him because he is a very intriguing person and I
want to know more about his past and what inspired him to write what he does and the way that
he does. While I was researching I found out the Poe s mother, brother, foster mother, and wife
/cousin, all had died of tuberculosis. Edgar Allan Poe was born to traveling actors in Boston,
Massachusetts on January 19, 1809. He was the second of three children and his other brother,

At the bottom right corner, John the Baptist has been depicted as infant at seemingly the same age
as Child Jesus. Saint John raises his arm, with a scroll bearing the first few words of the phrase
ECCE. AGNVS DEI QVI TOLLIT PECCATUM MONDI (Behold the Lamb of God who takes
away the sins of the world). In this artwork, we are not able to see the whole phrase but several
letters among them, but it is definitely presenting the same words. The pleasure on Saint John s
face while looking at the scroll foretells his devotion in the future as a Baptist. An angel standing
next to the Virgin looks at the Child Jesus, who looks over his shoulder. The caring face of the
angel indicates Jesus s sacrifice is praised not only by the common people, but holy figures. The
background is mainly dark grey, makes the figures at the front to stand out. Personally, I think the
painting is aesthetically attractive because of the special style of the artist. Realistic are the faces of
the figures, which look like real human with beauty appearance, and their bodies. Idealistic
elements include the glowing casts on the Virgin, the Child Jesus, and Saint John the Baptist, and
the sacredness the artist tries to convey through the image. These two painting, The Divine

28. How Does Hana Greenfield Use Personal Experiences In...
In general, history books recite facts and figures to create censored generalizations about
historical events, including the Holocaust. Dramatizations of these tragedies tend to use detailed
accounts of those effected by the catastrophe to create a somewhat accurate storyline, which often
elicits some form of an emotional response from the viewers/readers. These accounts add an
extra level of detail to a once nameless, faceless fact or figure. It allows the reader/viewer to
visualize what was occurring at the time. They start to think what they would do, how they would
feel or react if they were in that particular situation and that is when the emotions start to form
inside the reader/viewer. Dramas allow the readers/viewers to connect more with the material and
hopefully find meaning that they could not find simply skimming pages of a book. In Fragments of
Memory, Hana Greenfield uses personal experiences... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Is John Brown a hero or a murderer? While growing up in an ideal Christian family his parents,
Owen and Ruth Mills Brown, raised their children of eight to obey the teachings of the Bible. The
Browns would teach the importance of treating colored men with respect and to treat them just like
regular people. As John Brownfather was a known abolitionist during his time, he would follow
into his father s footsteps and become the man that the world knows today. Many believe that
John Brown being how he was raised was brainwashed into becoming a strict believer of equality
for all men or that religion was a cover up for being a mass murderer. Historians like Robert E.

The government during this time did not consider John Brown a hero at all. He was a martyr,
straight cold blooded killer and murderer to the government at that time just because Brown
fought for slaves. Historians would characterize his actions as an act of terrorism. However
slaves, former slaves and abolitionist consider John Brown as a hero to them. John Brown should
be considered a hero in all history textbooks. Brown gave each and every ounce of his body to
make sure slavery was abolished. Even though John Brown did not achieve that goal, he was

What if what you had been told your whole life was a lie? How would you feel if everything
reported about a terrorist attack or a shooting was actually a conspiracy by the United States?
What is a conspiracy? According to the Merriam Webster dictionary, a conspiracy is a secret
plan made by two or more people that is harmful or illegal . There are so many conspiracy
theories out there in the world starting as early as the 1800s. These theories range from scientific,
terrorist, criminal, political, economic and business, and even religious conspiracies. The two
conspiracy theories that I am talking about is the attack that changed the United States, as we
knew it, the one that we believed was a terrorist attack, also known as 9/11, and the Sandy Hook
shooting. There are multiple reasons that lead me to consider these two attacks to be something
more than a terrorist and criminal attack. The reasons are because the timelines do not add up, there
are too many inconsistencies, and the benefits are too great.
The attack on American soil on September 11, 2001 is one conspiracy theory to consider. The
timelines given to the American people concerning the 9/11 attack do not make sense. At

35. Environmental Justice And Its Effects On The Environment
Environmental Justice
Living in a highly industrialized world that is ruled by capitalism, the concern for the environment
often takes a back seat. Individuals or companies nowadays prioritize achieving optimal profit
without putting into mind what their respective actions or productions may have an effect on the
environment. They do not realize how important the role of our environment plays in the quality
of human life. We can say that a good environment leads to a better quality life, while a bad
environment could lead to a harmful and unproductive life. Now, it becomes unfair and unjust
when the risks and costs of a company affect a certain group of people and on the opposite side of
the spectrum another group of individuals enjoy the benefits without costs. The individuals that are
affected badly are usually from Third WorldCountries where the distribution of risk and costs are
not even (Low and Gleeson 1999). This is where Environmental Justice comes in. Environmental
Justice mainly concerns the welfare of human beings (Low and Gleeson 1999). Talking about cities
where capitalism surges from, it has been argued that these cities are unfairly structured (Low and
Gleeson 1999). Basically, what this is saying is that the wealthier you are, the better or cleaner the
environment. On the other hand, if you are poor, then the environment around you will have more
health risks. This kind of injustice or disparity is what adds fuel to the fire of environmental justice.

Laissez faire is the absence of effective leadership (Yukl G, 2010). Laissez faire leaders ignore

E Government in Singapore
The Vision of E Government E Government is defined as the use of information technology, in
particular the Internet, to deliver public services in a much more convenient, customer oriented,
costeffective, and altogether different and better way. [Holmes, 2001 cited in Hughes (2003: 182)]
The concept of e Government is enhanced by the vision of the Singaporean government, which is
to become a world leader in e Government and to better serve the community and the nation (IDA
2004). The Singaporean government has engaged e Government to re examine(s) the organising
principles of bureaucracy and governance, re define(s) the objectives and deliverables of
government and re deploy(s) the resources available. (Mahizhnan and Andiappan 2002: 250)
It is not only the addition of an e to the word government (Khaw 2002: 3) that has caused e
Government to flourish. The government has had to challenge itself and to change the ways it
thinks and operates in order to continually develop, sustain and improve the operational processes
of the public services (IDA 2000). The Objectives of e Government Due to advanced technology
and the high level of investment in Research Development (R D) since the 1980s, Singapore has

In conclusion, Hark at the wind, said Mr. White, who, having seen a fatal mistake after it was too
late, was amiably desirous of preventing his son from seeing it.
This quote displays foreshadowing because during this event he makes a mistake and doesn t
realize it until after it s too late. Also I wish for two hundred pounds, said the old man distinctly.
A fine crash from the piano greeted the words, interrupted by a shuddering cry from the old man.
His wife and son ran toward him. It moved, he cried, with a glance of disgust at the object as it lay

each other s mind by what they do, how they act, or how they think. Lorraine says of John, I have
tried to explain to him how dangerous it was, particularly smoking... (Zindel 8). That quote shows

The main issues in this case are regarding to a scarce resource, a beachfront Palapa, which is an
important product for this resort adding great value to customers. Due to this very limited spots The
Caribbean Palm Resort has been struggling for developing the right pricing strategy in order to
achieve both revenue and customer satisfaction goals. However, the approaches to date they

The resort keeps changing its price policy frequently and it confuses the customers and it is
unreliable.
Towel Hut * Too much responsibility: It is no longer a towel hut. It covers not only distributing and
collecting towels but also explaining policy, taking reservations and managing palapas and
customers complaints and so on.
Recommended Solutions and Justification * Increasing the supply: The resort could provide
more palapas so that more quests can have opportunity to enjoy it. However I assume that there
could be a limitation of installing palapas by government (such as not to damage the nature).
There is no information regarding government s permission. If so, they should offer alternatives
for customers. The alternatives could be canopies or beach umbrellas. However, these should be
provided free. * Abandoning the first come, first served system: All palapas should be rented so
that some customers who choose not to pay for palapas would not feel frustrated or slighted and
it is fairer for every customer to pay for them and no one needs to line up and waste time. *
Consistent and reliable pricing strategy: The Price system should be an hourly basis not daily. For
instance, the resort charges $8 / hour for the use of a palapa. The resort needs to optimize their
scarce resource wisely. * Allocating towel hut s responsibility: The resort should

45. Mrs. Salloway And Wide Sargasso Sea Short Story
Of all their seemingly infinite similarities, Clarissa Dalloway of Virginia Woolf s Mrs. Dalloway
and Antoinette Cosway of Jean Rhys Wide Sargasso Sea are most similar in their longing for
England. The actual country may be immaterial for what both women truly yearn for is an escape
from their current circumstances. Though several decades separate the lives of the two women, the
forces of oppression they face are much the same. From an outsider s perspective, both Clarissa and
Antoinette appear to enjoy privilege in excess; however, the stream of consciousness narrative of
both novels illuminates the ways in which both women find themselves struggling against
oppression imposed by those closest to them their husbands. Is it true...that England is like a dream?
Because one of my friends who married an Englishman wrote and told me so. She said this place
London is like a cold dark dream sometimes. I want to wake up, (Rhys, ) says Antoinette to her
English husband. For Antoinette, the fathomable world stretches does not stretch beyond the
Caribbean, for she was raised in Jamaica and, during the course of the novel, finds herself on
honeymoon in Dominica. The homeland of her husband is a distant myth, and the canvas onto
which she can paint her most vivid refuge. With a dead and forgotten father, a mother driven to cold
insanity, and the slaves turned servants as her only companions, haunting memories are the islands
prime commodity for Antoinette. Unlike Antoinette,

48. Persuasive Essay On Tattoos And Piercings
A person is going to an interview for a retail job. The retailer tells the person that they do not
qualify for the job because they do not fit their appearance standards. The job applicant is
wondering why they did not get the job just because they have different looks than others.
Therefore, people should not be denied jobs based upon their appearances.
People who have tattoos or piercings should not be denied jobs. For an example, the persons
tattoos or piercings may define their characteristics or personality. A person may have a tattoo
sleeves that symbolizes a band, a family member or an object that they like. Piercings however
can be all over a person s body and they might like the placements of their piercings. At this point,
discussions between the customers and employees on tattoos and piercings are being made. These
discussions can range between Why did the person decide to get a tattoo or piercing? or Does the
employee really think they are going to qualify for the job because of those things? According to
Andrea Johnstone and Laurel Buskirk, editors of an article called Tattoo, body piercings rules can
lead to discrimination claim, the reason why companies have policies that ban tattoos, piercings and
other body modification is to maintain a dress code and other appearance requirements (29A). If
tattoos define an employee s characteristics or personality and can be used as a discussion topic
between the employee and customers, then people who have tattoos

Child marriage is a forced marriage where the individual or individuals are children and under the
age of 18 who cannot or do not consent to being married (Jelenic Keeley 2013). This essay argues
that the best way to prevent child marriage in Australia is to generate tougher criminalisation laws.
The essay will begin by briefly outlining the extent of child marriagein Australia before going on to
illustrate a case study that expresses the issue. The essay will then argue potential solutions,
including means of tougher criminalisation for offenders. It will further consider the importance of
education for children and touch on methods to raise awareness, before drawing on ways the
community can work together to prevent child marriage. Finally the essay will reflect on the
arguments taken and conclude with the best way to prevent child marriage in Australia.
Child marriage is a violation of children s human rights and often involves physical, emotional,
financial, sexual or psychological pressure and abuse (Levesque 1999). Approximately 14
million children as young as 8 years of age fall victim to child marriages worldwide each year,
robbing them of their childhood, education and future dreams (Quinell 2015). A study conducted
by the National Children s and Youth Law Centre identified over 250 cases of child marriages in
Australia over 24 months (Jelenic Keeley 2013). The study confirmed that over 15 Australian
children are being sent overseas each year for a forced

51. Indecision, Hesitation and Delay in Shakespeare s Hamlet...
A tragic hero is defined as a great or virtuous character in a dramatic tragedy who is destined for
downfall, suffering, or defeat. The hero in these tragedies is often presented as a noble however,
flawed character whose demise is often impart to their own decisions, often due to their previously
mentioned flaws, error in judgment and imprudent actions. Written in the early 1600 s Shakespeare
wrote one arguably one of his greatest and highly controversial plays, the tragedy known as Hamlet,
Prince of Denmark. Shakespeare in his play introduces us the pays one of his most popular,

With Hamlet s tragic flaw being his inability to act, he is plagued throughout the play by his
immense intelligence and philosophical nature, which causes him to overanalyze each situation,
rendering him unable to carry out any action in response. This is evident in the play by the frequent
delay of acting out his father s revenge due to the uncertainty of the evidence pertaining to his uncle
s crime. Hamlet s inability to act creates a discourse between hamlet and his consciousness,
generating an abundance of stress, which causes him to become increasingly frustrated as the play
progresses. This frustration leads to him at moments in the play to behave in a rash and impulsive
way or acting in an inappropriate manner, contradicting his methodical and reserved disposition. It
is the consequences of these inappropriate actions that resurfaces at the plays end, to haunt the
character, as Hamlet s inability to act while using his renowned logic and intelligence ultimately
leads to his eventual demise at the plays conclusion, due to his inability to act both effectively and
appropriately in critical situations.
What makes Hamlet so intriguing as a character in his avoidance in the actions we expect him to
carry out, as he constantly postpones his actions in order to acquire more insight and certainty
about current situations and about what he plans to do in response, and the following consequences
of his decision bringing about two of the plays major

In this chapter of The Feminine Mystique, Betty Friedan denounces a fundamental notion of the
mystique: The role for women in the home is equal to the role of men in society. To further
explain this notion, she makes use of several different rhetorical devices such as antithesis, when
she establishes a connection between the dreadful physical and mental health of full time
housewives plus men working on assembly lines, and she does so in order to accentuate the hidden
problems of alcoholism, obesity, chronic fatigue, and lack of interest in sex due to preconceived
ideas about genderroles. Moreover, she makes use of logos, when she provides her readers with

53. Minimum Wage
The concept of minimum wage is to ensure that employers do not pay wages below the
mandated level. However this does not always happen instead this policy ends up hurting these
workers and the economy in terms of lower job opportunities. This is because the increase of
labor costs keeping all other things constant would eat into the net profits of the company.
Therefore in order to offset the decrease in profits, the need for low skilled labor decreases and
companies look for higher productivity workers.
The groups that are directly affected by the minimum wage consists of young workers or teenagers,
part time workers and workers from non poor families.

/labor/negative effects minimum wage laws#top Question 3: Impacts of an Appreciating Currency
In the case of appreciation of the yen, the following impacts could occur to Japanese firms * The
first effect would be on the negative effect of exports and as a result would cause the firms to
become less competitive based on price. * Another effect would be as a result of the exchange rate
fluctuations. Certain firms might not be protected to negative fluctuations as a result of dealing
with yen as their primary mode of currency. This therefore can eat into the profitability of the
Japanese firms and cause multinationals to shift overseas to a more stable country.
Therefore in short, the reduction in exports due to an increase in the value of yen is because the
Japanese goods have now become more expensive to other countries. Therefore this reduction
directly affects the firms that deal with these exports and thus affects their profitability.
However , in spite of the decrease in exports , Japanese firms now have the ability to expand
