This document presents a study comparing two techniques for detecting brain tumors in MRI images: level set segmentation and K-means segmentation. Features are extracted from the segmented tumors using discrete wavelet transform and gray level co-occurrence matrix. The features are then classified as benign or malignant using a support vector machine. The level set method and K-means method are evaluated based on accuracy, sensitivity, and specificity on a dataset of 41 MRI brain images. The level set method achieved slightly higher accuracy of 94.12% compared to the K-means method.

individualized treatment depends on the accuracy of the initial diagnosis. In this method the
performance of the level set segmentation is subject to appropriate initialization and optimal
configuration of controlling parameters, which require substantial manual intervention. A
new fuzzy level set algorithm is proposed in this paper to facilitate medical image

A Robust Method for Moving Object Detection Using Modified Statistical Mean M...ijait
Moving object detection is low-level, important task for any visual surveillance system. One of the aim of this paper is to, to describe various approaches of moving object detection such as background subtraction, temporal difference, as well as pros and cons of these techniques. A statistical mean technique [10] has been used to overcome the problem in previous techniques. Even statistical mean method also suffers with the problem of superfluous effects of foreground objects. In this paper, the presented method tries to overcome this effect as well as reduces the computational complexity up to some extent. In this paper, a robust algorithm for automatic, noise detection and removal from moving objects in video sequences is presented. The algorithm considers static camera parameters.

This paper proposes a parallel approach for the Vector Quantization (VQ) problem in image processing. VQ deals with codebook generation from the input training data set and replacement of any arbitrary data with the nearest codevector. Most of the efforts in VQ have been directed towards designing parallel search algorithms for the codebook, and little has hitherto been done in evolving a parallelized procedure to obtain an optimum codebook. This parallel algorithm addresses the problem of designing an optimum codebook using the traditional LBG type of vector quantization algorithm for shared memory systems and for the efficient usage of parallel processors. Using the codebook formed from a training set, any arbitrary input data is replaced with the nearest codevector from the codebook. The effectiveness of the proposed algorithm is indicated.
FUZZY SEGMENTATION OF MRI CEREBRAL TISSUE USING LEVEL SET ALGORITHMAM Publications
The current study investigated a median filter with the fuzzy level set method to propose fuzzy segmentation of magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) cerebral tissue images. An MRI image was used as an input image. A median filter and fuzzy c-means (FCM) clustering were utilized to remove image noise and create image clusters, respectively. The image clusters showed initial and final cluster centers. The level set method was then used for segmentation after separating and extracting white matter from gray matter. Fuzzy c-means was sensitive to the choice of the initial cluster center. Improper center selection caused the method to produce suboptimal solutions. The proposed algorithm was successfully utilized to segment MRI cerebral tissue images. The algorithm efficiently performed segmentation of test MRI cerebral tissue images compared with algorithms proposed in previous studies.

APPLICATION OF IMAGE FUSION FOR ENHANCING THE QUALITY OF AN IMAGEcscpconf
Advances in technology have brought about extensive research in the field of image fusion.
Image fusion is one of the most researched challenges of Face Recognition. Face Recognition
(FR) is the process by which the brain and mind understand, interpret and identify or verify
human faces.. Image fusion is the combination of two or more source images which vary in
resolution, instrument modality, or image capture technique into a single composite
representation. Thus, the source images are complementary in many ways, with no one input
image being an adequate data representation of the scene. Therefore, the goal of an image
fusion algorithm is to integrate the redundant and complementary information obtained from
the source images in order to form a new image which provides a better description of the scene
for human or machine perception. In this paper we have proposed a novel approach of pixel
level image fusion using PCA that will remove the image blurredness in two images and
reconstruct a new de-blurred fused image. The proposed approach is based on the calculation
of Eigen faces with Principal Component Analysis (PCA). Principal Component Analysis (PCA)
has been most widely used method for dimensionality reduction and feature extraction

We can find the simultaneous monitoring of thousands of genes in parallel Microarray technology. As per these measurements, microarray technology have proven powerful in gene expression profiling for discovering new types of diseases and for predicting the type of a disease. Gridding, Intensity extraction, Enhancement and Segmentation are important steps in microarray image analysis. This paper gives simple linear iterative clustering (SLIC) based self organizing maps (SOM) algorithm for segmentation of microarray image. The clusters of pixels which share similar features are called Superpixels, thus they can be used as mid-level units to decrease the computational cost in many vision applications. The proposed algorithm utilizes superpixels as clustering objects instead of pixels. The qualitative and quantitative analysis shows that the proposed method produces better segmentation quality than k-means, fuzzy cmeans and self organizing maps clustering methods.

Comparitive study of brain tumor detection using morphological operatorseSAT Journals
Abstract
Segmentation divides an image into foreground object and the background object. In our case foreground object is brain tumor and background is CSF, white matter, and grey matter. Aim of our study is to detect the tumor and remove the background completely and compare the morphological operations that can be used for this purpose. Segmentation remains a challenging area for researchers since many segmentation methods results in over segmentation or under segmentation and hence, leads to the false interpretation of the results. The proposed work is the comparative study of the morphological segmentation methods for segmenting brain tumor from MRI images. Before segmentation, filtration process is carried out using two method, Non Local mean filter and median filter and their results are compared using MSE and PSNR. NL mean filter preserves sharp edges and fine details in an image hence, preferred over median filter. Also tumor location is identified, to get an approximate idea about the position of the tumor in the brain i.e. in which part the brain tumor is located. The tumor is identified by using different algorithms which are based on morphology such as watershed segmentation, morphological erosion, and hole filling algorithm and comparison between them is carried out based on parameters like accuracy, sensitivity and elapsed time. Each of the segmentation results are compared with the tumor obtained using interactive tool present in MATLAB R2013b.

Immunizing Image Classifiers Against Localized Adversary Attacksgerogepatton
This paper addresses the vulnerability of deep learning models, particularly convolutional neural networks
(CNN)s, to adversarial attacks and presents a proactive training technique designed to counter them. We
introduce a novel volumization algorithm, which transforms 2D images into 3D volumetric representations.
When combined with 3D convolution and deep curriculum learning optimization (CLO), itsignificantly improves
the immunity of models against localized universal attacks by up to 40%. We evaluate our proposed approach
using contemporary CNN architectures and the modified Canadian Institute for Advanced Research (CIFAR-10
and CIFAR-100) and ImageNet Large Scale Visual Recognition Challenge (ILSVRC12) datasets, showcasing
accuracy improvements over previous techniques. The results indicate that the combination of the volumetric
input and curriculum learning holds significant promise for mitigating adversarial attacks without necessitating
adversary training.

CFD Simulation of By-pass Flow in a HRSG module by R&R Consult.pptxR&R Consult
CFD analysis is incredibly effective at solving mysteries and improving the performance of complex systems!
Here's a great example: At a large natural gas-fired power plant, where they use waste heat to generate steam and energy, they were puzzled that their boiler wasn't producing as much steam as expected.
R&R and Tetra Engineering Group Inc. were asked to solve the issue with reduced steam production.
An inspection had shown that a significant amount of hot flue gas was bypassing the boiler tubes, where the heat was supposed to be transferred.
R&R Consult conducted a CFD analysis, which revealed that 6.3% of the flue gas was bypassing the boiler tubes without transferring heat. The analysis also showed that the flue gas was instead being directed along the sides of the boiler and between the modules that were supposed to capture the heat. This was the cause of the reduced performance.
Based on our results, Tetra Engineering installed covering plates to reduce the bypass flow. This improved the boiler's performance and increased electricity production.
It is always satisfying when we can help solve complex challenges like this. Do your systems also need a check-up or optimization? Give us a call!
Work done in cooperation with James Malloy and David Moelling from Tetra Engineering.
