Salmonella is a bacteria that causes typhoid fever and food poisoning in humans. Typhoid fever, caused by Salmonella typhi, results in a sustained high fever as the bacteria spreads from the intestines to other organs. It may cause complications like intestinal perforation or hemorrhage. The early symptoms of typhoid fever include poor appetite, headaches, fever up to 104 degrees Fahrenheit, and lethargy. Left untreated, 5-10% of typhoid cases may experience relapse of symptoms.
