Rhetorical Strategies In Frank Schaeffer s Speech Military...
The American government does not understand its people. Members of the government vote for war
and try to persuade the public to join the military. However, they rarely encourage their children to
volunteer for the military. In the speech Military Families, Frank Schaeffer explains that because of
this, the government does not understand the feelings of the people whose children are in harm s way.
Schaeffer uses rhetorical strategies such as historical allusions and repetition in order to persuade the
audience that the government is not capable of representing the people because their children are not
serving in the military.
Schaeffer utilizes historical allusions to show that governments whose leaders had children in the
military could

The Death Penalty Is A Form Of Capital Punishment Essay
The death penalty is a form of capital punishment which has been implemented in the judicial system
for thousands of years, the popularity of which has fluctuated throughout the years. Over time, the
public has generally been supportive of the use of the death penalty within the United States judicial
system, where at one point almost all citizens were in favor of this form of capital punishment.
However, in more recent years, the support for it has decreased and due to this it has become a less
common form of punishment. The topic of the death penalty is one that has not been greatly discussed
and debated, primarily because many citizens believe that many criminals deserve to die for
committing the heinous crimes they are being punished for. But is that the question we should be
asking?
African American lawyer, social justice activist, and professor Bryan Stevenson challenges this
question and the injustice of the justice system as a whole in his TED talk, We Need to Talk About an
Injustice . Stevenson is a lawyer who represents children and spends a majority of his time with clients
on death row and within prisons, attempting to save his clients. He acknowledges the question of
whether or not criminals deserve to die for their crimes, and identifies it to be a valid and reasonable
question. He also acknowledges, however, that individuals should pay attention to the question of is it
in our power to kill these criminals ? He builds his argument around the apparent

Labor Relation Milestone
HRM 450 Module 5 Portfolio Milestone Labor relation issues have been on the forefront in the United
States since the early 20th century when the first labor laws were passed (HG.org, 2015) Laws were
enacted to govern the rights and responsibilities between employers and employees. The first phase of
labor laws dealt with laws to compensation for injured workers, a standard minimum wage and work
week and prohibit child labor (HG.org, 2015) In the 1960 s and 70s, laws were focused on
discrimination and unsafe work conditions, today issues include employee healthcare and equal pay

The Republic Of Niger, A Poor, Landlocked Country Essay
The Republic of Niger, a poor, landlocked country, located in the heart of Sub Saharan West Africa.
Niger has seen its fair share of change throughout the decades; moving away from the control of the
French Parliament in 1960, Niger formally declared its independence. Despite this bold act of
independence, Niger would not see its first steps towards democracy until the early 1990 s, when they
held their first open election as a free state. However, even with the empowerment of the people in a
democratic government, Niger has seen itself nearly torn apart as a result constant coups, that have
occurred as recently as 2010. Such instability has led to incredulous amounts of corruption and
poverty, within the Niger government. This lack of stability and constant turnover in government, has
been a driving factor behind the lack of resources available for education in Niger. Although education
in Niger is free, the country is nearly entirely rural with an unevenly distributed population. These
factors have lead to a lack of school buildings in nearly every part of Niger, and as a result, Niger has
an adult literacy rate of only 28.7%; this being the second lowest literacy rate in all of Western Africa,
trailed only by Burkina Faso (21.8%). Niger s education system is based on the incredibly successful
model of France which consists of: primary school, secondary school and finally higher education.
While this model has been effective for the French, most children in Niger will

The Origins Of The United Nations
Kofi Annan once said, More than ever before in human history we share a common destiny. We can
master it only if we face it together. The origins of the United Nations began seventy years, here, in
the United States. In 1945, representatives of 50 countries met in San Francisco at the United Nations
Conference. Each delegate deliberated on the proposals by the representatives of China, the Soviet
Union, the United Kingdom, and the United States at Dumbarton Oaks starting in August of 1944. The
Charter was signed in June of 1945 by each of the fifty one representatives. The U.N. was officialized
on October 24 of 1945, after the Charter had been ratified by a majority of other signatories (un.org,
2015) . While the intentions for Franklin D. Roosevelt s coined United Nations was to align the Allied
Powers and anyone else against the Axis Powers in World War II, the it s goals are a bit broader now.
While we did have a League of Nations before The United Nations, it was put in place after the Paris
Peace Conference after the first World War, there wasn t exactly much accomplished. The United
Nations now, has four main purposes: maintain international peace and security, develop healthy
relations amongst nations, solve international problems and promote human rights. While some
agendas are hard to advance, the U.N. has successfully completed several; including peacebuilding in
war ridden countries, new enforcement on the issue of climate change, and defending human

Modern Public Administration: Managing Public Nonprofit Organizations PAD 500
Abstract
The purpose of this paper, An Understanding of Public Administration, is to provide the reader with an
overview of the field and its application towards public programs, agencies, groups and other
associations. It also provides a clear definition, introduces some principles associated with public
administration along and how it is used in American society. Public administration allows public

Because of this activity, Wilson concluded that it was becoming harder to fun a constitution than to
frame one (Denhardt page 2). He felt that there was a need to change the day to day operation of the
US government from a corruptive agency spiraling into a web of bureaucratic mess to a more
productive governing system supported by the an administrative base that will be able to enforce
public interest and policy. This scholar and later President wrote that there should be a science of
administration which shall seek to straighten the paths of government, to make its business less
unbusinesslike ; to strengthen and purify its organization, and to crown its duties with dutifulness
(Stillman page 8). Apparently, Woodrow Wilson favored the private sector s interest in businesslike
operations and its efficiency as a way to run the government and its agency. From his 1887 essay, he
favored the idea of concentrating power in a single authority atop a highly integrated centralized
administrative structure (Denhardt page 2).
Principles behind Public Administration
Woodrow Wilson along with scholar Leonard D. White and others believed that this field would
evolve and be interwoven within the fabric of American government, public agencies/programs,
associations, and nonprofit organizations.

History And Struggles Of Puerto Rican People
I will bring awareness to the history and struggles of the Puerto Rican people. I will relate the
struggles of not being recognized in society, being discriminated against, and not being able to vote
unless living in the states despite the fact we are born United States citizens. These conditions are
identical to what Zinn states happened to slaves in his book, A People History of the United States.
(Chapter 6) I will also speak on the advancements Puerto Ricans have made today as compared to 40
years ago, and how it has influenced me today as a Puerto Rican women. Puerto Rico is a small island
in the Caribbean. It was first settled around 1000 A.D. by the Taino Indians and called Borinquen. In
1493, Christopher Columbus claimed it for Spain but it wasn t until the arrival of Juan Ponce de Leon
in 1508 that Spain began to colonize and rule over the land and its native people. The Taino Indians
believed the Spanish colonizers had divine powers and to test their theory they captured a Spaniard
and drowned him. It is said that they watched him for several days until they were sure he was dead.
When they learned that the Spanish were mortal, they revolted against them but with no success. As
punishment, Ponce De Leon ordered 6,000 shot; survivors fled the mountains or left the island. After
being settled by Spain and being enslaved, the native population was nearly wiped out by disease and
war. The Spanish then began brining African slaves to the island to replace the Indian

Drug Testing In Sports Essay
A dominant problem in sport today is the use of performance enhancing drugs (doping). The
temptation of doping is high because athletes are constantly judged on their performance. However
drug testing is costly; per person, a drug test costs around $700. New Zealand athletes are often
missing out on dreams they have worked a lifetime to fulfill, because of world wide, performance
enhancing drug use. Drug testing has an exorbitant cost. New Zealand s expenditure alone in 2015/16
amounted to $2.962 million. Are these tests even fair and worth the cost? Most athletes consume some
sort of dietary supplement that has no evident effect on performance enhancement, for example, a
simple multivitamin can test positive in a drug test from being on the same production line as a
prohibited substance. An unpublished survey revealed that 93% of elite New Zealand athletes had
ingested at least 3 dietary supplements in the 6 months previous, a risk when drug testing is
definite. The line between supplement use and an actual performance enhancing drugs ... Show more

So in conclusion, collaboration from organisations world wide is needed to fund research projects, to
advance the methods and technologies used in drug testing, to ensure that sport is a fair and safe
environment. New Zealand athletes publically exposing cheating are bullied by opposing athletes and
media. Programs are urgently needed to be put in place in countries that encourage performance
enhancing drug use, to educate young athletes of the danger of doping. Stricter regulations on health
and supplement industry, should be enforced on the multi billion dollar companies, whereby they have
to prove the safety of their product. These issues need to be addressed by WADA (World Anti doping
Agency) urgently. Overall these actions will minimise the disadvantages faced by New Zealand and

Jesus Should Live A Hidden Life
If the Holy Spirit asked you to step away from your public platform of ministry and into a hidden life
before God alone, would you do it? If you agreed to live the hidden life for a period of time and then
were later presented with the option of regaining the spotlight in ministry, which lifestyle would you
choose? Rees Howells was faced with these very decisions while his ministry was thriving. As Rees
Howells grew in his relationship with Jesus, Rees began to remove his cap when he prayed because he
consistently felt the overwhelming presence of the Holy Spirit with him. In Wales during this time,
however, everyone was expected to wear a hat or some sort of head covering outside. Because Rees
often did not wear a hat outdoors, the townspeople ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Just as Rees had lived away from the spotlight for a time, the majority of Jesus life was not lived
before people; His public ministry lasted only for three years of His life. Jesus spent the majority of
His life in secret, living before the Father just as Rees had done. Additionally, in the same manner that
Rees brought others needs before the Throne, Jesus also represents us before our Father as our
Intercessor.
The second reason that Rees should have continued to live a hidden life is that he spent more time
with Jesus. When Rees had decided to continue living in the secret place, the Holy Spirit invited him
to spend his entire days sitting in God s presence and talking with Him. Because Rees devoted his
days to the Lord, he experienced such sweet fellowship with Him. By continually worshipping and
growing in his faith, Rees made the most of his time and spent it well.
The third reason that Rees should have continued his hidden lifestyle is that he was set apart. Making
the decision to continue living a hidden life is not what most would have decided to do; it is not in our
nature. Because Rees decided to continue this lifestyle, some thought that he was foolish. Rees s walk
of faith would not and should not look like anyone else s; therefore, he should not compare his life

The factors that Cirque du Soleil reduced well below the industry s standard are the dependence on the

The factors that Cirque du Soleil raised well above the industry s standard were the emphasis on
creating a new form of entertainment which is expressed through dance, music, and acrobatic skill;
they also focussed on group performances instead of individualistic efforts (Lazenby, 2014). Cirque du

Treatment Of Veterans With Suds And Co Occurring...
The VA runs the largest substance use disorder treatment program in the world. Treatment of veterans
with SUDs and co occurring psychiatric disorders is one of the following three paradigms; parallel,
sequential, and integrated. Most VA programs are parallel, where the patient receives treatment for
SUD in one program and treatment for PTSD in another. Many SUD PTSD veterans may be unable to
navigate the separate systems or make sense of the disparate messages about PTSD treatment and
recovery. One challenge to dissemination and implementation of EBTs is that of dual disorders,
particularly SUD and PTSD. These patients use costly inpatient services, tend to have frequent
relapses, and are less likely to adhere to or complete treatment.
Cook, Walser, Kane, and Woody (2006) did a study that had a goal of getting clinicians to accept
Seeking Safety and evaluate its efficacy when treating veterans, in hopes of bridging the gap of
parallel services at the VA to treat comorbid SUD PTSD. This study reinforced the old ways of cannot
teach an old dog new tricks because of how difficult it is to influence clinician behavior in routine
medical care. A more passive approach was taken via a daylong interactive staff training in Seeking
Safety, where clinicians were informally surveyed on their willingness to co lead groups with the
study. Four therapists volunteered. And thus, four Seeking Safety groups were formed with 25 veteran
volunteers whom had comorbid SUD PTSD. Of those, 18

The Jade Peony--Sek-Lung Is a Marginal Character Essay
Sek Lung is a Marginal Character
A strong, intelligent, independent boy is what every traditional Chinese family wants. Unfortunately,
Sek Lung is not such an ideal child. In the novel, The Jade Peony, Sek Lung is a marginal character.
He is rejected by the dominant group, first being made to feel insignificant and second to feel
uncomfortably visible. Sek Lung is born in Canada, with a sick body, being considered inferior and
unimportant. To begin with, he gains a reputation because of his brainlessness. Referring to his own
feeling, everyone knew [...] I was brainless (Choy 145). For example, I would say Third Uncle instead
of Great Uncle (Choy 145). That is because he is stuck between two cultures. In English, ... Show

First, he is insecure, and he is afraid that he will not get along with other students. When he first goes
to school, Jung s tough guy reputation protected I from the school bullies (Choy 174). A marginal
character is always unconfident. Because of his weakness, brainlessness and different cultural
background, he worries about getting into trouble. Second, Sek Lung, spending all his childhood with
Poh Poh, is the only person who sees her ghost. For example, after Poh Poh dies, every time the
windows mysteriously close or make noises, Sek Lung insists, It s Grandmama (Choy 181), [...] and
everyone [glares] at [him] (Choy 181). Poh Poh is his closest family member, and he cannot get over
her death. He believes that Poh Poh s soul will come back and protect him. However, in his family s
eyes, he is acting strange, and no one believes him. Besides, his family thinks he will shame their
name. For example, sister Liang refuses to take him out because people will see or hear him.
Similarly, Chinatown people turned away, muttering behind my back (Choy 178). He is not only
noticeable in his family, but also well known all over Chinatown. People think he may be crazy or he
really sees a ghost, which shows that he is unlucky, and either point of view will make him be rejected
by society, because no one likes abnormal persons at that period. To conclude, Sek Lung becomes
marginal by being treated as insignificant and distinctive.

some husbands of U.S. citizens. Congress eventually passed an act providing for the denial of visas to
aliens whose presence in the U.S. would endanger public safety. Immigration legislation passed after
being including the laws barring the Chinese from entering the U.S. and allowing their admission to
the country in accordance with an annual quota. A federal law passed authorizing the admission to the
U.S., without regard to quota and physical and other standards, the wives and children of citizens

America is an immigrant nation. First settled by Europeans and then followed by immigrants from
across the world, we are all essentially outsiders. Ancestors traveled to America for the opportunity to
prosper and be free, not prevent current immigrants from doing the same. As human beings,
immigrants should have the same rights as anyone does. Immigrants take a risk by bringing their
children to America in order to escape the dangers in their own country and have a better chance at

Printing Press Dbq
Printing Press DBQ Why was the essay not printing? Because the printer was too busy reading it!
With the Printing Press being invented, the history of communication gradually changed. Johannes
Gutenberg invented this moveable type and it became a reminder of how our writings came to be more
deliberate. Communication enlarged over time and because of the Printing Press, it made lives much
easier when it came to writing and illustrating. This raises the question, What Was the Most Important
Consequence of the Printing? In this context, important is defined as having a far reaching and long

complete. When the creation of the moveable type took place, it allowed for people to create books at a
much faster rate and it enabled for more jobs to be available. Moreover, the development of this
invention spread all across Europe between the years of 1471 and 1500. In maps displaying the spread

Use Of Light In Blanche Dubois
Blanche DuBois manipulates lighting and shadows in a room to hide her true identity. She is
constantly concealed by shadows, avoiding direct light which may reveal her mysterious secret past
that is metaphorically hidden in her face. In the play, Blanche is regularly mentioning light, and the
significance of it. Although this is a film with no colour, the use of light is very visually prominent.
The use of light appears as a deceiving disguise that Blanche uses to shape her image. She aspires to
be an elegant, youthful person when in fact, her beauty is fading, and she has lost all sense of reality.
The film has a major emphasis on the use of light in scene nine, where Mitch rushes into Blanches
apartment with the intent of an interrogation.

As the message arrives at the end of the nerves, the message is transmitted to the muscles. Before the
message is transmitted to the muscles it has to pass the space between the end of the nerve and the
muscle, and that space is called neuromuscular junction. The message is transmitted from the brain to
the end of the nerve and from the nerve to the neuromuscular junction, and when the message arrives
the chemical called neurotransmitters are released.
When acetylcholine reaches the muscles side of neuromuscular junction, it attaches and locks into
receptors. If anything interferes with these steps, the nerve will not be able to control muscle
contraction. When there is an interruption of normal communication between the nerves and the
muscles at the neuromuscular junction, myasthenia gravis occur. This interruption is caused by
antibodies that prevent acetylcholine from reaching muscle by destroying or blocking the receptors.
Figure 3: Symptoms
Myasthenia gravis may affect any voluntary muscles. They may affect muscles that control the eyelid
movement, facial expression and swallowing. The most symptoms of myasthenia gravis that can be
noticed are the weakness of the eye muscle that causes double vision. Some symptoms of myasthenia
gravis may include unstable walk, arm weakness, weakness in hands, fingers, legs and neck, change in
facial expression, having a hard time swallowing, shortness of breath, and having problems with

The Problem Of Total Joint Force
The problem the total Joint Force (JF) 2025 will face will be consistent emerging gray zone threats
that include hybrid and near peer competitors trying to tip the balance in the global security
environment. In addition, as the Department of Defense (DOD) learned from past wars while its
resources reduce, the total JF 2025 must adapt and become more agile in countering these emerging
threats. The DOD has provided the strategic and military guidance along with associated posturing
statements for the complementary capabilities of strategic adaptability and agility that will enable the
rebalancing of the total JF 2025, support future contingency operations, and mitigate risk. Recently
General Dunford stated, a ready JF is one that can effectively meet the steady state requirements of the
combatant commanders, deter our adversaries, and respond decisively in the event of a contingency.
The total JF in 2025 will need to adapt and become more agile faster than these emerging threats. It
will also need to continue deterring global adversaries if it wants to sustain enduring strategic and
operational success while remaining decisive in supporting the national defense strategy.
The DOD has released multiple documents since 2012 in support of developing its defense strategy.
First, the 2012 Defense Strategic Guidance and 2014 Quadrennial Defense Review, established
priorities that included, rebalance to the Asia Pacific region, maintain security in Europe and the

Civil War Reconstruction Dbq Essay
During the time period of 1860 and 1877 many major changes occurred. From the beginning of the
civil war to the fall of the reconstruction, the United States changed dramatically. Nearly one hundred
years after the Declaration of Independence which declared all men equal, many social and
constitutional alterations were necessary to protect the rights of all people, no matter their race. These
social and constitutional developments that were made during 1860 to 1877 were so drastic it could be
called a revolution.
The election of Abraham Lincoln and the secession of the South led to the outbreak of the civil war.
The civil war was the first revolutionary change in America. States rights were a major issue during
this time. Issues of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When blacks were given the right to vote, it was only somewhat successful. Many blacks did use their
new political power to vote as it is shown in Harper s Weekly (Document G), but whites still tried to
stop them. Literacy tests, grandfather clauses, and fear caused by the Ku Klux Klan were used to keep
blacks from exercising their right to vote. Another issue of reconstruction was the banking and
currency system. In an attempt to uniform the currency, Senator John Sherman gave a speech saying
that with a currency and a medium of exchange, we shall have a broader and more generous
nationality (Document B). At the time many states had their own currency and a change needed to be
made to unite the states. A sense of nationality was needed as the nation was in turmoil after the
attempted secession of the South. Reconstruction came to an end in 1877 with the Compromise of
1877. Rutherford Hayes became president for agreeing to end federal support for Southern
Republicans and building a transcontinental railroad. In this compromise he also withdrew troops
from the South. This, along with the rejection of laws protecting blacks from discrimination, brought
reconstruction to an end in 1877.
Many social changes occurred during the time from 1860 to 1877. In the history of the United States,
blacks had been viewed as less than equal to whites. This was clearly shown through the three fifths
compromise which counted slaves as less than an actual

The Natural Cognitive Process Is Based On Our Own...
When others look at someone, multiple things are processed in the brain at one time. How that
individual looks, the color of their skin, and even favorable features they have. What we truly see
outside of the natural cognitive process is based on our own experiences with other individuals. Our
familiarity with situations as well as general perceptions of people can determine how we view one
another. In this day and age popular culture has undoubtedly affected our natural view of the
individual. When thinking about large groups of people, we categorize them by societal preconceived
notions. They are Black, they are White, these are the nice people, and those are the mean people. This
becomes a problem however, when society dictates ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In an excerpt below from one of the earliest periodicals, The Slave s Friend a description is provided.
The above picture shows how an African appears in his native country. See that elephant s tusk
leaning against him. The Africans sell them for ivory, and they are made into a great many useful
articles in this country. The African appears free and independent, but he is a heathen. He looks abroad
upon nature, but knows little, or nothing, of nature s God. The kidnappers very often seize the children
while they are at play, when their parents are absent, carry them to the boats in the rivers, and then to
the slave ships that are at anchor, or lying to, not a great way off. They then take them over the seas to
South America, to the West Indies, and even to the United States, never, never to return to their native
land as freemen. There they sell them as slaves, and there they have to work, and suffer, and weep. O,
how my heart bleeds for them. (The Slaves Friend) The image of an African gave way to a widespread
stereotype of what people from that continent looked like and how they lived. The image had savage
and wilderness filled overtones that took away any sort of civilized tendencies that the African may
have had. Looking at the exact words used to define the individual, The African appears free and
independent, but he is a heathen. He looks abroad upon nature, but knows little, or

Theme Of Reputation In The Crucible
Reputation is extremely important in a town where social standing is tied to one s ability to follow
religious rules. Your good name is the only way you can get other people to do business with you or
even get a fair hearing. Of course, reputation meant nothing when a witchcraft accusation was staring
you in the face. But reputation is what made the Reverend hale begin to doubt whether the accused
individuals were actually guilty. And it was for the sake of his reputation and his friends reputations
that John Proctor refused to sign a false confession. He would, quite literally, rather die. Although
John Proctor goes to his death falsely condemned as a witch, he gains his reputation and respect
among those who matter, like his wife, because he refuses to falsely identify his friends and
neighbours as witches. The loss of Abigail s reputation toward the end of the play shows that
characters in The Crucible eventually earn the reputations they deserve, despite the personal tragedies
that might take place along the way. Having a good reputation is very important in The Crucible. It
means you can be accepted by society. If you do not have a good name, you will be completely
rejected. John Proctor would no longer be thought of a morally straight and righteous person.
Reverend Parris would lose all his respect and not be accepted by society. Judge Danforth would be
constantly questioned and lose his job. Keeping and maintaining your good name is an overwhelming

Freud The Uncanny
It would make sense to firstly explain and elaborate on Freud s theory of The Uncanny . The word
uncanny derives from German origin, unheimlich , which translates to unhomely . This concept
regards elements which arouse fear, dismay and unfamiliarity; these apply to everything that was
intended to remain behind closed doors, but has emerged into the open . The very purpose of Gothic
texts regardless of the era coincides with Freud s theory of The Uncanny , thus allowing myself to

of the Enlightenment (1800 1850), in which individualism, analysis and reason were placed upon a

Analysis Of Faith And Doubt At Ground Zero
In the documentary Faith and Doubt at Ground Zero, a number of people were interviewed about how
their religious beliefs or non beliefs, were challenged since the events of September 11th. The
interviews with priests, rabbis, family members of victims, survivors, lay people, atheists and
agnostics, this documentary explores how Americans spiritual lives may have changed since the event.
When a tragic event happens, people would either grow closer to god or outgrow god. To those people
who do not believe in a god, these actions will just prove their beliefs. In the beginning of the film,
people immediately started to question God. Some of them started to question why would a god so
mighty approve this kind of actions. Dr. Michael Brescia, who is a physician who saw pictures of
people jumping off the building, I wonder how many of them thought if there was a God. And if there
was a God, why me? Why this? And where am I going to go? This kind of questions always come up
when something catastrophic happens. Others, however, did not ask any questions and just accepted
what has happened. Kim Coleman, who lost her daughter said, God knows something I don t, God
knows best and knows better than we do. There were also a couple of people who were not so sure
what to think of god anymore. Rev. Joseph Griesedieck, a priest who volunteered at Ground Zero said,
the face of God was a blank slate for me. God couldn t be counted on in the way that I thought God

Pros And Cons Of Nuclear Fission
How Nuclear Fission produces Nuclear Bombs and Energy
KABOOOOM! That was the sound of the two atomic bombs the United States of America dropped on
the cities of Hiroshima and Nagasaki during World War 2. These two bombs were the main reason the
Japanese surrendered, which led to the end of the war. The bomb at Hiroshima had a death toll of
135,000 and Nagasaki s death toll was 64,000 ( The Atomic Bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki ).
So how are these destructive bombs made? They are made by nuclear fission. Nuclear fission is when
an atom splits into two parts, either through natural decay of when instigated within a lab and it
produces energy. The natural decay is done through beta decay and blasting neutrons at the nuclear of
the atom is what splits the atom. Nuclear fission has changed the world today, it is used to create

Nuclear power also has a lot fewer greenhouse emissions. It has been determined that the amount of
greenhouse gases have decreased by almost half because of the prevalence in the utilization of nuclear
power. Nuclear energy has the least effect on nature since it doesn t discharge any gasses like methane
and carbon dioxide, which are the primary greenhouse gasses ( Pros and Cons of Nuclear Energy. ).
So, nuclear power is the cheapest source of electricity and produces the smallest amount of pollution
than any other source of energy. But there s even more pros about nuclear energy. It is the most
reliable source of energy. Solar energy is only good in sunny places, wind energy is only good in
windy places, geothermal energy can only conduct electricity where hot spots are located, and
hydroelectric energy is produced by water turning turbines that produce electricity. Nuclear energy can
be conducted anywhere as long as there is enough space for the power plant to be

Art Has Changed The 20th Century
For centuries, art has been a way to express oneself. Some of the most famous artists started off just
drawing for pleasure and it spiraled into a money making career. One of the most prestigious artists
started off his career like that, Pablo Picasso. From a young age, Picasso became a child prodigy and
displayed the characteristics of an artist. He is known for his groundbreaking influential works that
transformed the twentieth century, his creation of art forms and Cubism that would forever stay after
his passing, and his ability to turn anything into art (Pablo Picasso Biography Painter). Growing up, he
was taught how to draw by his father, who was an artist. In his early years, he attended school, and
later dropped out because the teachers could not help him solve the technical problems he had. At this
point in his life, Picasso had one goal: become a classical painter. When he dropped out, he was
sixteen years old and his ability was nowhere near the most famous artists of his time in the late
1800s. Using his unique form, he began to draw in 1896. After being struck with scarlet fever and

History of the Word Assassin
Words are dynamic, ever changing aspects of our world. The meaning of words grow and change over
time. Many words have evolved over time to take on new forms and identities with a changing culture.
The evolution of our basic vocabulary is bound to evolve and morph into new meanings. Words that
have been around for longer are bound to have a variety of meanings because they have been used by
people for centuries. Words change meaning over a long period of time due to culture, slang, incorrect
usage, and misinterpretation. The word, assassin, much like other words, has progressed and changed
meaning over time. In one way it was used to describe a person addicted to the narcotics, hash.
Secondly, it can be used as its more prevalent usage currently as a person who is hired to kill. There
are many theories about where the word assassin originated, but the most common is that the word
assassin had first originated in about 1080 right before the first crusade. There was a certain fanatical
sect of Ismaili Muslims that sent forth militants during the crusades to kill Christian leaders. While
they did this they were said to be under the influence of hashish, an opiate. One of the primary sources
for this account was from the writings of Marco Polo. As a result, the first literal meaning of the word
evolved from the Arabic word, hashishiyyin or hashishin, and meant hashish eater or hashish user.
However, the term took on a completely different meaning as time went on. As a result

  • 4. Rhetorical Strategies In Frank Schaeffer s Speech Military... The American government does not understand its people. Members of the government vote for war and try to persuade the public to join the military. However, they rarely encourage their children to volunteer for the military. In the speech Military Families, Frank Schaeffer explains that because of this, the government does not understand the feelings of the people whose children are in harm s way. Schaeffer uses rhetorical strategies such as historical allusions and repetition in order to persuade the audience that the government is not capable of representing the people because their children are not serving in the military. Schaeffer utilizes historical allusions to show that governments whose leaders had children in the military could ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. The Death Penalty Is A Form Of Capital Punishment Essay The death penalty is a form of capital punishment which has been implemented in the judicial system for thousands of years, the popularity of which has fluctuated throughout the years. Over time, the public has generally been supportive of the use of the death penalty within the United States judicial system, where at one point almost all citizens were in favor of this form of capital punishment. However, in more recent years, the support for it has decreased and due to this it has become a less common form of punishment. The topic of the death penalty is one that has not been greatly discussed and debated, primarily because many citizens believe that many criminals deserve to die for committing the heinous crimes they are being punished for. But is that the question we should be asking? African American lawyer, social justice activist, and professor Bryan Stevenson challenges this question and the injustice of the justice system as a whole in his TED talk, We Need to Talk About an Injustice . Stevenson is a lawyer who represents children and spends a majority of his time with clients on death row and within prisons, attempting to save his clients. He acknowledges the question of whether or not criminals deserve to die for their crimes, and identifies it to be a valid and reasonable question. He also acknowledges, however, that individuals should pay attention to the question of is it in our power to kill these criminals ? He builds his argument around the apparent ... Labor Relation Milestone HRM 450 Module 5 Portfolio Milestone Labor relation issues have been on the forefront in the United States since the early 20th century when the first labor laws were passed (HG.org, 2015) Laws were enacted to govern the rights and responsibilities between employers and employees. The first phase of labor laws dealt with laws to compensation for injured workers, a standard minimum wage and work week and prohibit child labor (HG.org, 2015) In the 1960 s and 70s, laws were focused on discrimination and unsafe work conditions, today issues include employee healthcare and equal pay for men and women (HG.org, 2015). • 7. The Republic Of Niger, A Poor, Landlocked Country Essay The Republic of Niger, a poor, landlocked country, located in the heart of Sub Saharan West Africa. Niger has seen its fair share of change throughout the decades; moving away from the control of the French Parliament in 1960, Niger formally declared its independence. Despite this bold act of independence, Niger would not see its first steps towards democracy until the early 1990 s, when they held their first open election as a free state. However, even with the empowerment of the people in a democratic government, Niger has seen itself nearly torn apart as a result constant coups, that have occurred as recently as 2010. Such instability has led to incredulous amounts of corruption and poverty, within the Niger government. This lack of stability and constant turnover in government, has been a driving factor behind the lack of resources available for education in Niger. Although education in Niger is free, the country is nearly entirely rural with an unevenly distributed population. These factors have lead to a lack of school buildings in nearly every part of Niger, and as a result, Niger has an adult literacy rate of only 28.7%; this being the second lowest literacy rate in all of Western Africa, trailed only by Burkina Faso (21.8%). Niger s education system is based on the incredibly successful model of France which consists of: primary school, secondary school and finally higher education. While this model has been effective for the French, most children in Niger will ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. The Origins Of The United Nations Kofi Annan once said, More than ever before in human history we share a common destiny. We can master it only if we face it together. The origins of the United Nations began seventy years, here, in the United States. In 1945, representatives of 50 countries met in San Francisco at the United Nations Conference. Each delegate deliberated on the proposals by the representatives of China, the Soviet Union, the United Kingdom, and the United States at Dumbarton Oaks starting in August of 1944. The Charter was signed in June of 1945 by each of the fifty one representatives. The U.N. was officialized on October 24 of 1945, after the Charter had been ratified by a majority of other signatories (un.org, 2015) . While the intentions for Franklin D. Roosevelt s coined United Nations was to align the Allied Powers and anyone else against the Axis Powers in World War II, the it s goals are a bit broader now. While we did have a League of Nations before The United Nations, it was put in place after the Paris Peace Conference after the first World War, there wasn t exactly much accomplished. The United Nations now, has four main purposes: maintain international peace and security, develop healthy relations amongst nations, solve international problems and promote human rights. While some agendas are hard to advance, the U.N. has successfully completed several; including peacebuilding in war ridden countries, new enforcement on the issue of climate change, and defending human ... Because of this activity, Wilson concluded that it was becoming harder to fun a constitution than to frame one (Denhardt page 2). He felt that there was a need to change the day to day operation of the US government from a corruptive agency spiraling into a web of bureaucratic mess to a more productive governing system supported by the an administrative base that will be able to enforce public interest and policy. This scholar and later President wrote that there should be a science of administration which shall seek to straighten the paths of government, to make its business less unbusinesslike ; to strengthen and purify its organization, and to crown its duties with dutifulness (Stillman page 8). Apparently, Woodrow Wilson favored the private sector s interest in businesslike operations and its efficiency as a way to run the government and its agency. From his 1887 essay, he favored the idea of concentrating power in a single authority atop a highly integrated centralized administrative structure (Denhardt page 2). Principles behind Public Administration Woodrow Wilson along with scholar Leonard D. White and others believed that this field would evolve and be interwoven within the fabric of American government, public agencies/programs, associations, and nonprofit organizations. ... • 10. History And Struggles Of Puerto Rican People I will bring awareness to the history and struggles of the Puerto Rican people. I will relate the struggles of not being recognized in society, being discriminated against, and not being able to vote unless living in the states despite the fact we are born United States citizens. These conditions are identical to what Zinn states happened to slaves in his book, A People History of the United States. (Chapter 6) I will also speak on the advancements Puerto Ricans have made today as compared to 40 years ago, and how it has influenced me today as a Puerto Rican women. Puerto Rico is a small island in the Caribbean. It was first settled around 1000 A.D. by the Taino Indians and called Borinquen. In 1493, Christopher Columbus claimed it for Spain but it wasn t until the arrival of Juan Ponce de Leon in 1508 that Spain began to colonize and rule over the land and its native people. The Taino Indians believed the Spanish colonizers had divine powers and to test their theory they captured a Spaniard and drowned him. It is said that they watched him for several days until they were sure he was dead. When they learned that the Spanish were mortal, they revolted against them but with no success. As punishment, Ponce De Leon ordered 6,000 shot; survivors fled the mountains or left the island. After being settled by Spain and being enslaved, the native population was nearly wiped out by disease and war. The Spanish then began brining African slaves to the island to replace the Indian ... • 11. Drug Testing In Sports Essay A dominant problem in sport today is the use of performance enhancing drugs (doping). The temptation of doping is high because athletes are constantly judged on their performance. However drug testing is costly; per person, a drug test costs around $700. New Zealand athletes are often missing out on dreams they have worked a lifetime to fulfill, because of world wide, performance enhancing drug use. Drug testing has an exorbitant cost. New Zealand s expenditure alone in 2015/16 amounted to $2.962 million. Are these tests even fair and worth the cost? Most athletes consume some sort of dietary supplement that has no evident effect on performance enhancement, for example, a simple multivitamin can test positive in a drug test from being on the same production line as a prohibited substance. An unpublished survey revealed that 93% of elite New Zealand athletes had ingested at least 3 dietary supplements in the 6 months previous, a risk when drug testing is definite. The line between supplement use and an actual performance enhancing drugs ... So in conclusion, collaboration from organisations world wide is needed to fund research projects, to advance the methods and technologies used in drug testing, to ensure that sport is a fair and safe environment. New Zealand athletes publically exposing cheating are bullied by opposing athletes and media. Programs are urgently needed to be put in place in countries that encourage performance enhancing drug use, to educate young athletes of the danger of doping. Stricter regulations on health and supplement industry, should be enforced on the multi billion dollar companies, whereby they have to prove the safety of their product. These issues need to be addressed by WADA (World Anti doping Agency) urgently. Overall these actions will minimise the disadvantages faced by New Zealand and other honest ... If you agreed to live the hidden life for a period of time and then were later presented with the option of regaining the spotlight in ministry, which lifestyle would you choose? Rees Howells was faced with these very decisions while his ministry was thriving. As Rees Howells grew in his relationship with Jesus, Rees began to remove his cap when he prayed because he consistently felt the overwhelming presence of the Holy Spirit with him. Just as Rees had lived away from the spotlight for a time, the majority of Jesus life was not lived before people; His public ministry lasted only for three years of His life. Jesus spent the majority of His life in secret, living before the Father just as Rees had done. Additionally, in the same manner that Rees brought others needs before the Throne, Jesus also represents us before our Father as our Intercessor. The second reason that Rees should have continued to live a hidden life is that he spent more time with Jesus. When Rees had decided to continue living in the secret place, the Holy Spirit invited him to spend his entire days sitting in God s presence and talking with Him. Because Rees devoted his days to the Lord, he experienced such sweet fellowship with Him. By continually worshipping and growing in his faith, Rees made the most of his time and spent it well. The third reason that Rees should have continued his hidden lifestyle is that he was set apart. Making the decision to continue living a hidden life is not what most would have decided to do; it is not in our nature. Because Rees decided to continue this lifestyle, some thought that he was foolish. Treatment of veterans with SUDs and co occurring psychiatric disorders is one of the following three paradigms; parallel, sequential, and integrated. Most VA programs are parallel, where the patient receives treatment for SUD in one program and treatment for PTSD in another. Many SUD PTSD veterans may be unable to navigate the separate systems or make sense of the disparate messages about PTSD treatment and recovery. One challenge to dissemination and implementation of EBTs is that of dual disorders, particularly SUD and PTSD. These patients use costly inpatient services, tend to have frequent relapses, and are less likely to adhere to or complete treatment. Cook, Walser, Kane, and Woody (2006) did a study that had a goal of getting clinicians to accept Seeking Safety and evaluate its efficacy when treating veterans, in hopes of bridging the gap of parallel services at the VA to treat comorbid SUD PTSD. This study reinforced the old ways of cannot teach an old dog new tricks because of how difficult it is to influence clinician behavior in routine medical care.
