Investigate the Behaviour of Organisations and the Market...
Introduction
In this assignment I will identify the structure of markets within the economy and explain how they
deviate from the model of perfect competition. I will also expand on which market forces dominate
the market place, identifying the organisational responses to demand including the adoption of
competitive strategies within the free market. Finally I will explain the role of the competition
commission and regulatory bodies.
Market Types
The most important factor within any market is the number of rivals competing for a share of the
business. Competition, as described by Stigler, G (2008) arises whenever two or more parties strive
for something that all cannot obtain. Perfect competition is seen as a theoretical ideal and ... Show

Market forces
Market forces are primarily concerned with the supply of and demand for goods and services within
the free market. The demand for a good can be influenced by many factors such as price, available
substitutes and a person s income. Price can be one of the primary forces when looking at the demand
for a product, it does however have limitations. Demand may not necessarily rise if the price drops
below a certain level, people will automatically assume an inferior product and not purchase it.
Similarly if a product that is essential to the consumer is priced higher the demand may not decrease,
petrol is a good example of this. In order for us to predict how much someone is willing to buy at a
given price, we must first create a demand schedule, which can be represented as a demand curve.
(Fig 1.)
Fig 1.
It is apparent that as the price of an item increases, the quantity demanded reduces. This is an over
simplification as there are many non price factors affecting demand. The Ceteris paribus clause can
best used to describe this method of analysis.
Non price factors affecting demand
Product substitution occurs when the demand for one product affects the demand of another. Although
price can influence peoples decision to buy a substitute, personal taste, brand loyalty and demography
can influence decisions often more persuasively than price. People s income can also affect their
purchasing habits, often increasing their

Reliability And Validity Of Interviews Essay
Then turn to interviews. Interviews are classed as a qualitative research method and remain one of the
most utilised research methods in industrial and HRM research. Whipp (1998, p.55) notes that The
interview is the primary means of accessing the experiences and subjective views of actors . The main
advantage of the interviews is that the rich data can be obtained from an interview. According to White
(1989) the research into solicitor s perceptions of ACAS was relatively easy to set up and forty
interviews are completed for five months. It is necessary to use interviews to gain more detailed, in
depth explanations from participants, which may provide a much better understanding of their
perceptions and actions. On the other hand, The time consuming nature of preparing, arranging,
conducting and writing up interview, which refers to that it is probable only a limited number of
research participants can be interviewed within a short time period may be the biggest disadvantage of
the interviews.
There are three main formats of the interviews, which are structured interviews, non standard
interviews and the last ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Moreover, the information will be provided about use of data, and the information will be kept safely

The reliability and validity of any research conducted are clearly of importance. Reliability is a less
problematic concept, which for the purposes of small scale research projects, can be addressed
through careful design of interview or survey questions to reduce ambiguities. Bell (2010, p.119)
states that validity is an altogether more complex concept . Validity is more complicated since it is
harder to establish whether fieldwork research can paint a true picture of what is being

An Ethical and Global Analysis of Software Offshore...
An Ethical and Global Analysis of Software Offshore Outsourcing
Introduction
Before acquiring its current negative connotation, outsourcing referred to the practice of turning over
parts of a business to a company that specialized in that activity. For instance, Cisco Systems, Brocade
Communications, and other leading original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) outsource their
manufacturing to Solectron Corporation, where I was a summer intern. By partnering with Solectron,
OEMs can gain access to the latest equipment, process knowledge, and manufacturing expertise
without making substantial capital investments. In essence, outsourcing to Solectron enables OEMs to

Now, skilled workers are finding that education isn t enough, not when an Indian worker is just as
educated and is willing to do the same job for a fraction of the pay. A microchip designer or financial
analyst makes $7,000 a month in the United States. The same worker in India earns $1,000 a month.1
Significant cost savings, gaining access to skills not found elsewhere, and providing access to a new
market all contribute to the popularity of offshore outsourcing. Nonetheless, if software outsourcing
continues, those with less creative software jobs who update antiquated code, fix bugs, and perform
routine programming tasks2 should prepare themselves for career upheaval.
Meanwhile, in India... 3

1920s And 1950s Similarities
The 1920s and 1950s both starts out different and ends on different circumstances. The 1920s started
out with a wrongful lawsuit and ended with and economic shutdown. The 1950s started out with
fighting in wars against communism and ended with and economic growth. Both eras were a lesson
for society. The 1920s and 1950s has many differences and similarities between each other. The 1920s
was a time of economic growth, inventions, and spending money. During the 1920s, America was
renamed as new society and new standard of living (Foner, 773). Little did society know was that the
1920s was the reason for the Great Depression in the 1929. This time era had a rough start because
there was a prohibition on manufacturing and selling alcohol (Foner, 742). There also an awakening of
what America was really like for the immigrants, for example, the convictions of two Italians,
Bartolomeo Vanzetti and Nicola Sacco. Vanzetti and Sacco were accused of partaking in an armed
robbery and murder of a security guard (Foner, 768). This raises about the corruption of the
government, and how it destabilized basic American freedom because these men were seen as threats
to the American Life (Foner, 769). There were no evidence against Sacco and Vanzetti, yet they still
got the death penalty (Foner, 769). The 1920s were also famous for the Jazz Age and Roaring
Twenties (Foner, 769, 770). The flappers were women who were young and sexually liberated (Foner,
770). The speakeasies were nightclubs

Mexican Restaurant Research Paper
Best Authentic Mexican Restaurants in Little Rock
Everyone has their own favorite type of cuisine. Common favorites range from American, to Italian, to
Chinese, and for me, Mexican. I spent one year in Arkansas at Little Rock and found the best Mexican
restaurant in the area. Currently, I have tried eight different Mexican restaurants, which include both
Tex Mex and Authentic Mexican Restaurants. I picked my top four favorite authentic Mexican
restaurants to review and critique based on price, menu, service, house salsa, and appearance to help
peoples, as future customers, decide which restaurant is the best choice for them.
For all four restaurants none of them are entirely overpriced. In terms of bang, buck Riviera Maya is
best option. He/she pay $8 $9 for a quality burrito that he/she can only finish about half of. Taqueria
Karina Cafe is pricier, but for the amount of food a person get and how fantastic the quality is, it is
worth the few extra dollars compared to the other restaurants. Senor Tequilas is very cheap, but the
customers pay for what they get which is a smaller portion of food at a lower quality. Lastly, El Porton
was $8 for a 6 inch quesadilla which I would ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

was going to taste heavenly, just by how full and even overflowing the plates were. El Porton knows
how to spice up a website to attract customers, but do not let fool the customers. The food does not

Hockey Lockout Analysis
Since the start of the twenty first century, there has been two different lockouts in the National Hockey
League. The first to happen was in the 2004 2005 season. The entire season was lost due to an
unsuccessful bargaining agreement. The second one to happen was in the 2012 2013 season. Over
sixty percent of the season was lost and the league had to cancel special events such as the Winter
Classic games and the All Star Weekend. They were able to salvage the tail end of the season and were
still able to have the Stanley Cup Playoffs (The hockey lockout of 2012 2013, 2013). Previously
before the mid 1990s, the stoppage of a sports season was usually due to a strike rather than a lockout.

The agreement seemed to be a victory for the owners, but they continued to pay big salaries to the
players. Average salaries grew and started to exceed revenue growth. In 2004, the National Hockey
League claimed that they had lost nearly two billion dollars in the past decade. In the negotiations, the
league was focuses on the idea of the costs being certain. They would make sure that costs are certain
by introducing a salary cap. The union was against the idea of a salary cap and insisted that salaries
were based on market conditions and it would not agree to capped team payrolls. As an attempt to
save the season, the league dropped the demand that the salaries would not exceed fifty five percent of
revenue. The union then reconsidered and became willing to accept a salary cap. The two parties
however, could not close the gap on how much the salary cap should be. Neither side would budge
and finally time ran out, resulting in the league cancelling the 2004 2005 season. The cancelation
caused an estimated two billion in revenue for the teams and roughly one billion in lost salaries from
the players. After the season was lost, the Nation Hockey League Players Association finally agreed to
a salary cap for the 2005 2006 season and onward (The hockey lockout of 2012 2013,

Maggie A Girl Of The Street
Race and gender are topics that are examined not matter what the writing style. Naturalist and realist
writers work is no different in that aspect. However I feel that they way naturalist writers create and
write their female characters. I find that most of the female characters are treated as the weaker sex
within naturalist works. It also is clear that in naturalist works the gender roles are not strictly
enforced. If we take a look at The Yellow Wall Paper and Maggie a Girl of the Streets we can see
many examples of this.
Charlotte Perkins Gilman s short story The Yellow Wallpaper, we as the reader is given an intimate
look at the narrators developing insanity. The reader is treated to an intimate portrait of developing

Later when our narrator finally takes control of her own thoughts we get the true picture of who her
husband is. We no longer see him in a protective, strong leader and husband. Instead we find the role
to be reversed, and we can even see him behaving much like a woman.
Within Maggie tale, which is very much a realist work, we can see the same treatment of women.
Specifically within Maggie s own life. Once her family has discovered that she has slept with Pete she
is shunned, and thrown away. Maggie while not oppressed by one specific person, or the social forces
that are out of her control oppress event like Gilman s narrator is still oppressed .
Both tales tell of a women who is unhappy, unable to escape, and deeply oppressed. I do not think that
women are treated or portrayed any different in either style of writing. Women in general during this
time period are consider to be weak, mild, and meek creatures. They are considered disposable and we
can see that in both of these women. They dream of better lives and want to escape, however they do
not have the means, or the power to do so. The only difference between the two is the Gilman s story,
which is a naturalist work, allows for more freedom with the gender roles and gender role reversal.
However over all realist or naturalist women are oppressed by men and their

Separated Twins and the Genetics of Personality Differences: A Critique
Author(s): Jay Joseph
EDP 1002 : THEORIES OF PERSONALITIES
Introduction
Throughout history, across all cultures, people have been fascinated with twins. In addition to interest
in the close emotional ties and biological similarities that twins may share, reports of special twin
languages and twin extrasensory perception (ESP) help people to explore ideas of what it means to be
human. How similar or different are they to each other? How important are genes and environment for

and Shields studies, MISTRA twins were discovered on the basis of similarity and their knowledge of
each other s existence. Also, Minnesota study also lack of case histories and the failure to share data.
Although most of the earlier researchers were viewing twins through a hereditary lens, their
descriptions provided a wealth of information.
Method of research and Findings In this study, they are used several type of method, one of the

participants were given a battery of personality and mental ability tests, interest and value inventories
and psychomotor tests. In addition, separate of examiners administer the IQ test, life history interview,
psychiatric interview and sexual life history interview. The twin also complete questionnaire
independently under the constant supervision of the staff members. Twin studies are valuable to
researchers because identical twins share 100% of their genes and fraternal twins share, on average,
50% of their genes. Both identical and fraternal twins share certain aspects of their environment (e.g.
religious practices in the home). This allows researchers to estimate the heritability of certain traits.
Participants are asked about academic ability, personality, and interests; family and social

Magnet Schools Research Paper
What is a Magnet School?
In contrast with charter and private schools, a magnet school is an exclusive part of the local public
school system. Normal public schools use geographic zones to determine where students will attend
school. This means that students attend the school that is closest to where they live. Magnet schools
operate outside of zoned school boundaries, but remain under the same administration and part of the
local public school system. The U.S. Department of Education provides financial assistance for these
schools through their Magnet Schools Assistance program.
http://www2.ed.gov/programs/magnet/index.html
What is the Purpose of Magnet Schools?
Magnet schools originally began as part of a mass effort to desegregate public schools. Today, they
serve the same mission by giving students opportunities to select schools that best fit their needs.
Ideally, these same students will enrich the school s demographic makeup by representing different
social and ethnic backgrounds. When it comes to the curriculum, almost all magnet schools use
special course loads to incentivize students from various neighborhoods to attend. The goal ... Show

Bipolar And Manic Depressive Disorder
Introduction
Bipolar or Manic Depressive Disorder is a complex and challenging disorder. Bipolar is an area of
psychological illness that continues to provide perplex questions for psychologist. Bipolar is becoming
a more commonly diagnosed illness, in part due to readily available resources and education of the
public. There are many well known famous individuals who quietly, and not so quietly, suffered from
this mental illness such as Carrie Fisher, best known for her role as Princess Leia in the original Star
Wars films. The list also includes, artist Vincent Van Gogh, the late English novelist Virginia Woolf as
well as Catherine Zeta Jones. Many of these individuals cope with similar stressors to Nick Traina
whose illness is described in depth through his Mother s eyes as written in His Bright Light. The case
study of Nick Traina and his battle with bipolar disorder is connected full circle with the curriculum of
our Abnormal Psychology Course and proven to be a powerful story of the impact bipolar disorder has
on the lives of those suffering.

How Does Peacekeeping Promote Canadian Identity
Canadian identity wasn t always stereotypically related to polar bears, maple syrup and beavers.
Various movements in the 20th century began the development of Canadian identity. Aspects of
Canadian society such as technology, peacekeeping and immigration gave Canada a distinct identity.
Technology distinguished Canada as a developed nation amongst others with advanced transportation,

Characteristics Of A Representative Democracy
I. Introduction
Though the modern academic may describe a political regime as a democracy , what they almost
always imply is that said political regime is a representative democracy. A representative democracy
obtains its legitimacy from the agency of the people; for a democracy to be representative, officials are
elected to represent the interests of their citizens and are thus accountable to both the rules of political
institutions and the needs of their constituents. The most basic facets to a representative democracy
such as free and fair elections and strong competition between political parties are cornerstones to the
structuring of a representative democracy, and yet there are cases within the past century in which
representative democracies with elections and competitive political parties descend into authoritarian
regimes. So though the election of representatives is paramount to modern democracies, there are
other factors that constitute what Leonardo Morlino calls the qualities of democracy. Morlino
subdivides the qualities of a democracy into rule of law, electoral accountability, institutional
accountability, competition, participation, freedom and equality, and responsiveness.
There is no denial that all seven of these criteria Morlino are essential to the establishment and
maintenance of a representative democracy. However, I would like to argue that four of the most
important aspects to assessing the quality of a democracy are independent branches of

The Role Of Nurse Generalist As An Advocate, Delegator,...
The roles of the nurse generalist as an advocate, delegator, and life long learner
Myunghee Jung
Fairmont State University December 11, 2015
There are many professional roles of the nurse generalist that are essential in providing care to
patients, such as an advocate, educator, collaborator, and change agent and so on. In every day nursing
practice, nurses perform a variety of nursing roles. Meeting role expectations as a professional nurse is
for patient centered care, which is one of the IOM core competencies. The purpose of this paper is to
identify nurse generalist roles as an advocate, communicator, and life long learner to implement IOM
core competencies; 1)provide patient centered care, 2) work in interprofessional teams, 3) employ
evidence based practice, 4) apply quality improvement, 5) utilize informatics (Finkelman, 2016, p. 50
51). This paper will also deal with what I have felt in my nursing career in performing the nursing
roles. According to Tomajan, the role of an advocate is to work on behalf of self and/or others to raise
awareness of a concern and to promote solutions to the issue (Tomajan, 2012, para 5). Acting as a
patient advocate plays an important role in providing patient centered care. In this role, nurses should
be aware of patients vulnerability and pay much attention to their individual values and preferences in
receiving care. However, in reality, it is challenging for nurses to focus exclusively on patients needs

Incorporation Theory
Incorporating a Theory that Supports the Proposed Solution
A theory is a set of ideas or principles that serve as a guidance to practice. Also, theories can be used
to implement change in the nursing practice. In this paper, the author will describe one theory and
discuss how that theory works to support the proposed solution on how to increase influenza
vaccination among healthcare workers. Then, she will explain how she will incorporate the theory into
her project.
Description of Theory
A nursing theory that supports the proposed solution selected is the health belief model (HBM). The
aim of this model is to address problem behaviors that arouse health concerns, such as risks of
nosocomial influenza like illness (NILI) due to unvaccinated healthcare workers (HCWs). Also, it is a
common model utilized in nursing, particularly in problems focusing on patient compliance and
preventive health care practices. The author chose this model because she believes healthcare workers

perceived severity, which helps HCWs to understand the danger of not getting the vaccine. The third
concept is the perceived benefit, which aids HCWs to know the benefit of getting vaccinated. The
fourth concept is the perceived costs, which refers HCWs how costly an outbreak of NILI can be. The
fifth concept is the motivation, which is what drives HCWs to believe that they should get the vaccine.

Lester Bowles Pearson left the most outstanding and beneficial legacy on Canada. He was our
Canadian Prime Minister from April 22, 1963 to April 20, 1968. Pearson helped make us grow as a
country and brought us together as a nation. Pearson is the reason that Canada has its outstanding flag
and the reason that Canadians have pension plans. Just a few of the important things he did to make
Canada an amazing country were; putting universal Medicare into effect, passing the Royal
Commission on Bilingualism and Biculturalism, and he helped bring the Canadian and American Auto
Pact into play. These are just a few of the lasting legacies that Lester Boweles Pearson left on our
beautiful home country.

They were at the point where they wanted to be separated from Canada and become their own country
Pearson wanted to control and focus on the strained relationship between Ottawa and Quebec. To do
this, he thought it would be smart to recruit three leading Quebec activists into the Federal
Government so that Quebec could felt they had an important spot in Canada. These three men were
known as the three wise men . Their names were Jean Marchand, Gerald Pelletier, and Jean Marchand.
This shows that Pearson, although he was English Canadian, knew that the French Canadians were a
huge part of making Canada the country that it was. Just because they spoke a different language did
not mean they had any less rights then the English Canadians. Pearson saw this and knew it was his
duty to make the French Canadians welcome in their own home country so they would stop pushing
for separation. This is an important part to Canada s legacy because if Quebec did end up separating
from the rest of Canada, it would have a big impact on everyone. Our country is not that same without
Quebec. Pearson helped keep things calmer between the French Canadians and the English Canadians.
One other great thing that Pearson did for us was he helped create the Canada/USAAuto

The History Of Taxes During The Civil War
Barbara Kellar

The History of Taxes
In 1861, Lincoln levied the first federal income tax by signing the Revenue Act. Needing cash with
which to fund the Civil War, Abraham Lincoln and the Congress agreed to impose a 3 percent tax on
annual incomes over $800.00. The wording of the Revenue Act was broadly written to define income
as a monetary gain derived from any kind of property, or from any professional trade, employment, or
vocation carried on in the United States or elsewhere or from any source whatever. (A E Television

After the Civil War, the growing industrial and financial markets of the eastern United States thrived.

Meaning that taxpayers pay more in taxes if they earn more in income. For example, taxpayers may
pay 25% of their income in taxes up to a certain amount, and 35% of everything earned over that
amount.
One theory about the use of the progressive taxation is that people or businesses who earn the same or
a similar amount of money should be taxed in the same or a similar way. A good example of that
theory states that two individuals making $75,000 per year should be taxed the same amount,
regardless of how they earned their income. While most countries have some form of progressive
taxation, it is usually combined with other taxes, such as a sales tax, and few countries treat all income
as exactly the same. This kind of taxation is still in effect today, bigger corporations are taxed more
than the smaller mom and pop businesses. The focus of what the government wanted to tax changed
over the years, it started with taxing incomes and then moved on to taxing tobacco and distilled spirits
and eliminated the income tax in 1872. It had a short lived revival in 1894 and 1895. In the latter year,
the U.S. Supreme Court decided that the income tax was unconstitutional because it was not
apportioned among the states in conformity with the Constitution. It wouldn t be until 1913 that the
16th amendment was passed and added to the Constitution that income tax would become a permanent
fixture in the U.S. tax system.

Essay on Understanding the Underground Dancer
Understanding the Underground Dancer
If you have seen him in clubs, in parties, and even in the street you will surely remember him. The
Underground Dancer is a figure of the modern world that cannot be dismissed. Anthropologists
explain dance as the expression of sexual desires, but the Underground Dancer is different, and
therefore, often misunderstood. It is hard to pinpoint what he is, and what he looks like, all I can
provide is shots in the dark, a desperate attempt to shed light to this misunderstood personae. The
underground dancer is a spiritual beggar, a metaphorical call for freedom, a revelrying Dionysus, an
artist and a work of art he matters not merely because he is different, but because he gives us new eyes

dramatically cruel, vastly uncaring world. He is not a spiteful man; he is merely sick and tired of
routine, of the day in day out, of the same ol , same ol , of everyday existence. Like an ill man he may
swear inside him, and like Dostoevsky s Underground Man he will let out a high pitched cry that
speaks: Enough! This world is not enough! He is still motionless for although he wants to dance, his
mind is not at ease what is the use of dancing anyway, when all the troubles of the world burden his
shoulders (Kaufmann 71, 72)? He remains inert, perhaps slightly trembling, a tingling anticipation of
an unknown surge tickling his soul. His inaction drives him insane because if he refuses to dance
without a reason, he will remain inert but if, on the other hand, dances without a reason, his lack of
determination will manifest itself as self consciousness and fall pray to the eyes of his audience. But
who ever heard of rationality as prerequisite for action? The whole of History is littered with examples
of irrational choices, where man acts without consideration for reason or advantage. The Underground
Dancer realizes this, and does not wish for himself a good, virtuous or advantageous choice but simply
to satisfy his own caprice, in a sense, feed his own desire for the single most advantageous advantage :
independent choice (72). He must dance,

Political Art Ideas By Karl Marx And Friedrich Engels

Art 006 Final
Essay #1: Political Art Ideas There was a time in history where oppression was very present in
Geremy, specifically dealing with the Natzis and communism. It was a time of great struggles for
different social classes. Once history starts to form new movements, culture and art also become
affected. Due to this time communism in the 1900s made Marxism come about. It is a movement in
art associated with Karl Marx and Friedrich Engels that looks at the different levels of class and the
conflict in each one. Not only in Russia was there problems within the governmental structure, it is a
worldwide problem. The Mexican Murals are also a reflection of this idea. Therefore, Russian
Constructivism and the Mexican Mural movement employ Marxism as a theory. First, Russian
Constructivism was created by a group of Russians in the 1990s. In general their work is geometrical
and non mimetic. Some of the important figures of this time would be Tatlin, Malerich, Lissitzky, and
Kandinsky. They wrote the, Programme of the First Working Group of Constructives which has three
main points. One that Scientific communism is heavily influenced by the theory of historical
materialism. Two, real experimentation is important. Three, there are three disciplines known as
Tectonics, Faktura, and Construction. Finally Russian
Constructivists declare war on art which relates to the communistic ideas of Marxism. Additionally,

Cocaine abuse has been a persistent health problem worldwide for many years (Platt, 2002). Adults

Every drug has a history as to how it came about, also, as to why it is used and or abused among

Treatment of cocaine addiction must be comprehensive, and strategies need to assess the

Swidden Farming and the Logging Industry in Indonesia...
With over 130 million hectares of forest area, Indonesia has the third largest forest in the world. These
forests are home to many diverse wildlife and unique creatures not found naturally anywhere else in
the world. Before the 1950 s, these forests were dense and in a natural balance. With the introduction
of greed in the form of humans and reckless machinery over 60 or so years, Indonesia has won the
dubious honour in becoming the World leader of deforestation . This has led to an unnatural balance
and is causing humans to try to control the environment more than they should. They practice the act
of Swidden farming just like the indigenous people of those regions have. It is the action of cutting

These pollutants may remain in the forest area. They can move into the cities and add to the factory
released pollutants. Or, they can go over into innocent neighbouring countries and disrupt their
lifestyles and their health. In 2013, a pollution cloud from Indonesia covered and filled Singapore. The
Pollutant Standards Index surged and obtained a reading of 371. This is the highest level of pollution
Singapore has ever had and they did not contribute to the burning. This pollution causes difficulty
with navigation and will give a person skin irritations, breathing difficulties, and respiration issues
from the polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons found as a by product of Swidden farming.
Another issue with pollution from Swidden farming is its exacerbation to global warming. The fires of
Swidden forests release greenhouse gases. These gases build up in the atmosphere and keep in infrared
radiation. This is the natural way the Earth maintains the temperature. A dense, greenhouse gas
atmosphere is not a good idea. Yet, the Indonesian logging industry continues to slash and burn down
forests for money. An example of a greenhouse gas rich atmosphere is the atmosphere on the planet
Venus. Venus is known to have the highest surface temperature of any known planet. It is unlikely that
Earth will become like this but, if the rest of the Earth were like Indonesia, the characteristics will
eventually become identical. The increase in carbon emissions in

Are Democracies More Than Other Kinds Of Political...
Are democracies less likely to go to war than other kinds of political regimes?
Democracy is considered as a peaceful entity and the world without war. American president
Woodrow Wilson, for example, believes that democracy is inherently peace desiring and consequently
contributes to the world peace, replacing war like political regime (Gat, 2006). Democracy is a system
of government, consisted of four key elements. Firstly, it is a means of choosing the leaders of the
citizens and replacing the government, if they do not achieve their commitments, through free and fair
election. Secondly, people actively participate in the public and civic life in democracy. Democracy
depends on the participation of the citizens, and it must be peaceful, respectful of the law, and tolerant
of the different views of other groups and individuals. Thirdly, every individual has the certain rights,
which the state cannot take away from him or herself in democracy. In other words, the human rights
of all citizens is protected by the democracy. Finally, democracy is a system of rule by laws, not by
individuals, and the rule of law protects the rights of citizens, maintains order, and limits the power of
government. Every person is equal under the law (Barkawi and Laffey, 2001). Further, Democracy is
largely supported by liberal thinkers such as John Locke and Immanuel Kant, and liberalism is the
main theory, which supports democracy and identifies the crucial aspects of democracy.

Ethics and Live Tissue Training
The Ethical Dilemma of Live Tissue Training in the Military Environment
By
Aaron Smith
22 September 2012
Thesis: Over the past 11 years to date, the United States has endured almost 8000 casualties from two
major conflicts (iCasualties.org, 2012). Although this number is staggering, we have also seen soldiers
surviving injuries that were previously fatal (Philpott, 2005). This increase in survivability is largely
due to the advancements in medical research and applied training. When it comes to military trauma,
our warrior medics should be equipped with the most realistic training attainable. Although several
simulation aids are used to provide this training, other methods such as live tissue training are still
employed. In ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In a recent media source, PETA defended their stance, stating, they can drug an animal up, but they are
sentient creatures that still feel pain and fear by being treated as a disposable commodity (Gordon,
2009). The Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine (PCRM) agrees with PETA stating,
Because widely validated and accepted non animal alternatives for chemical casualty management and
combat trauma training courses exist, there is no justification for the use of live animals for these
training purposes (PCRM).
Stakeholder Analysis: There are several individuals and organizations affected by this ethical
dilemma. First and foremost are the casualties down range. Having highly trained personnel ready to
treat and manage wounds on the battlefield is paramount in the survivability of these injured soldiers.
Is the potential increase in fatalities on the battlefield justified by the elimination of live tissue training
for warrior medics? When it comes to this life versus life assessment, which way is the most ethical
choice?
Secondly, the medically trained personnel must be taken into consideration. Without the most realistic
training available, combat medics will not be as prepared to properly assess and treat casualties. A
Marine Corps Staff Sergeant is quoted in saying, I can honestly say that the military training that I
received did not prepare me nearly as well as the live tissue training. I had to

Increasing Population In Orange County
A census is an official count or survey of a population, typically recording various details of
individuals. The census is taken every couple years in order to get specific details about our
population. It helps to take into account the amount of people a certain town, city, or state may have as
well as their race, gender, and age percentage. The census is also used to calculate the amount of
people who live below the poverty line, as well as the wealthy. The data collected by the census not

The Decline Of British Bees
The Decline of British Bees There are over 1500 insect species that are thought to help with
pollination in the UK. Virtually any insect that visits flowers can carry out pollination. This includes
the best known, the bees along with butterflies, hoverflies, a few beetles and moths. Bees are a
massive component in ecological systems with 78 94% of wild plant species and 75% of crop species
pollinated by animals and provide important social and economic aids to humans through crop
pollination and maintaining the biodiversity and character of the British landscape. It is generally
accepted that pollinator figures are in deterioration. Most Garden plants and agricultural/horticultural
crops rely on bees to bring about fertilisation by transferring pollen from the flowers anthers to the
stigmas. These include most tree and soft fruits, and many vegetables including marrows, courgettes
runner beans, tomatoes and broad beans, Allowing the decline of pollinators means that plants that are
not pollinated will not produce seeds or fruits, this is a problem if not remedied will affect the whole
of the world and civilization as we know it as an abundance of unfertilised plants could eventually

Compare and Contrast the Causes of the 1905 and 1917...
Compare and contrast the causes of the 1905 and 1917 revolutions in Russia In 1905 and 1917 Russia
was tormented by chaotic revolutions. The workers and the intelligentsia had arrived at the point of
hating the autocracy because they could no longer endure the suffering, hunger and repression that the
tsarist policies brought with them. Years later Lenin referred to the revolution of 1905 as a dress
rehearsal for the October Revolution of 1917. In 1905 tsardom nearly fell. Nicholas II succeeded in
remaining in power, stabilizing the situation, only thanks to various concessions. However, his

The power still has to be snatched from the hands of the old rulers and handed over to the revolution.
That is the fundamental task. A general strike only creates the necessary preconditions; it is quite
inadequate for achieving the task itself (Trotsky). The ineffectiveness of the strikes can be found in the
fact that in nearly every occasion the soldiers were ordered to shoot on the crowd, stopping the revolts
and leaving the tsar as obnoxious to the situation as before. Also the peasants in the countryside
suffered land hunger due to the growth of population caused by the decreased of mortality rates.
Backwardness was also caused by the open field system , which didn t motivate the peasants to
improve their machinery or seeding methods since their land would be taken away from them and
redistributed when a member of the community died. Nicholas II was a weak, indecisive and obstinate
ruler who, being very conservative and reactionary, used extensively the secret police ( Third Section )
and the army to suppress uprisings and political enemies. He alienated the intelligentsia and angered
the liberals with his lack of political participation and exaggerated reliance on the Fundamental laws,
which said that the tsar was appointed by god and was rightfully in charge of the country. As a

Constructivist Beliefs And Assumptions That Learners...
The foundations of this study are cemented with the constructivist beliefs and assumptions that
learners actively construct their meaning and alter their prior knowledge by interacting with the
learning environment (Jansen Land, 2012). Constructivist approach to learning emphasizes the
importance of actively building meaning by interacting with the learning environment and integrating
new information into the learners existing knowledge (Dede, 2008; Dabbagh, 2006; Colburn, 2000).
Students learn better when they are actively engaged in learning process (Jaakkola, 2012). In inquiry
learning environments students learn by actively participating in the learning process, interacting with
learning materials and building new knowledge upon their prior knowledge (von Glasersfeld, 1989;
Jaakkola, 2012). Consequently inquiry contexts are more effective (Brown, 1997; Bybee, 2000;
Edelson, Gording, Pea, 1999; Haury, 1993; Jaakkola, 2012), than traditional learning by just
discharging the knowledge towards the learner (Ernest, 1995).
Although inquiry is a powerful way of learning (National Research Council, 2000), due to a multitude
of factors, inquiry is still not the most dominant method used in the brick and mortar classroom
(Kubieck, 2005). Martell (2012) identified issues such as lack of hands on tools, content knowledge,
and classroom control among the main obstacles for the implementation of inquiry practices. From

This kind of growth doesn t happen without displacing land, people, animals, etc. Land based
resources, people s culture and historical symbols are often the victims of tourism development in
Hawaii. Many of the major resorts have been built on culturally significant sites. Construction of
tourist related businesses have played a huge part in the destruction of ancient Hawaiian burial
grounds, archaeological historic sites and sacred places. In fact, on the island of Kauai, a well known
ancient Hawaiian burial ground was excavated to make room for a huge condominium resort project.
Out of 22 acres of sacred burial grounds, only a one acre parcel was left, and human remains were
displaced and moved to make room for the project. This was devastating to the native Hawaiians who
had loved ones buried there for centuries, but seemed to be insignificant to the tourism industry that
seemed only to be worried about their new project and making money. Hundreds of other cultural and
historic sites have been bulldozed to make way for hotels and golf course developments without
regard for the environmental effects of their actions. In addition to disrupting the environment with
huge new buildings, many other sites such as ancient temples, house sites, fishing shrines, ceremonial
platforms and agricultural have been turned into tourist attractions and have been misused, abused and
disrespected by tourism. This is

Slavery Vs Indentured Servants Essay
Slavery and Indentured servitude were vital to the success of the British colonies in several different
ways. The difference between slaves and servants is that slaves were owed for life or until their master
decided to let them leave or they died. Indentured servants were granted freedom, safe passage to the
country and land ownership after working the length of their contract, as previously agreed upon. One
of the main reasons slaves and indentured servants were so vital to the British colonies is that they
were cheap and effective labor. They were able to work in the fields planting, fertilizing, watering and
picking the crop when it was ready to be harvested for consumption or profit. Due to the fast harvests,
the Americans were able to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In 1705 there were not many indentures servants anymore. The British colonies started hiring slaves
due to the fact that they were owned for life and they didn t have to be let go due to their contracts
expiring. Slaves also had less rights than indentured servants due to the changes in the slave laws. The
Americans justified enslaving Africans in several ways. The Americans thought less of them; that they
weren t even human but personal property to do with as they pleased. These views all came in to
account due to their skin color being darker. The American s thought they were evil since they were so
dark complected. That they were stupid and couldn t make their own way in the world. They would
make them work long hours in horrible conditions such as out in field all day in the hot sun without
breaks. Their living conditions were horrible, they weren t allowed medical care and were not fed on a
consistent basis. They were beaten, killed and many of the women were sexually abused by their
masters. Many of the slaves died due to malnourishment and disease. The American colonists justified
their actions by viewing that they were taking care of them by providing food, shelter and a means to
live by. That without them they would still be in Africa starving, homeless and

Why The Reliefs On The Ara Pacis For Matrix Cell 1
The Ara Pacis and the Idealization of Power in the Age of Augustus
I am choosing to focus on the imperial portrait reliefs from the Ara Pacis for matrix cell 1 because this
monument combines politics, religion and social values. The Ara Pacis Augustae epitomizes the Mos
Maiorum, the visual manifestation of Roman virtues and laws. This paper will explain why the reliefs
on the Ara Pacis can be considered political propaganda. Furthermore, I will analyze how the art in
this monument exhibits the importance of civic piety in Roman politics.
The construction of the Ara Pacis was commissioned by the Senate on the 4th of July in13 BC to
celebrate the triumphant return of Augustus from his campaigns in Iberia and Gaul after three years of
absence. During this time he was forging alliances and organizing the southern provinces of Gaul that
would insure the prosperity of Rome. The construction of this monument marks a great period of
peace inaugurated by Augustus after a series of political upheavals that scourged Rome following the
assassination of Julius Caesar in 44 BC and which lasted until the Battle of Actium in 31 BC. For the
first time since Rome began to build her empire, the provinces flourished within the context of the Pax
Romana .
The reliefs of the Ara Pacis are divided between allegorical and historical panels on the upper register,
while the lower register is decorated with acanthus scrolls that symbolize control over nature. The
reliefs of the northern and

The Relationship Between Time And Money
The relationship between time and money provides the foundation of every financial decision that we,
the people made in the world today. Whether it will be saving money for a future event or considering
a loan to pay for a current financial need. Everyday, everywhere people are greatly affected by the
time value of money. Firms and organizations, investors and capitalists use this concept in particular
for them to decide what to accomplish with their money and how to achieve their goals. They give
money today in order to receive money in the future. Companies on the other hand applies the use of
its view and theory to decide which projects to take and which projects to pass up. This perception is
called capital budgeting. Capital budgeting ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Time Value of Money impacts business finance, corporate finance, and government finance. Time
value of money is demanding and demeaning when investing in finance and commercial real estate for
instance, in valuing companies, stock analysts use this idea and the notion of time value of money to
discount back the estimated future earnings of a company to their present value. But, in comparison to
numerous different buyers and sellers, whose future earnings may come at different times; discounting
the value of their earnings may assess their present value.
Present value determines what a cash flow to be received in the future is worth in today s dollars. The
present value of future cash flow will always be less than the same amount of future cash flows, since
each people can instantly and directly invest cash received now, therefore can achieve a greater return
than from a promise to receive cash in the future. The concept of present value is critical in various
financial applications, for instance, corresponding to the valuation of pension obligations, determining
the outcome of investing in fixed assets, and whether or not to purchase one type of investment over
another.
A crucial fundamental component of the present value calculation is the interest rate to use for
discounting purposes. While the market rate of

Boptany Importance Of Science
Botany, the science of the vegetable kingdom, is one of the most attractive, most useful, and most
extensive departments of human knowledge. It is, above every other, the science of beauty, stated
Joseph Paxton, a gardener and member of the British Parliament in the nineteenth century (Paxton
1).Why is botany such a enjoyable profession? The many activities you can attend such as growing
and trimming are both easy ways to make money ,but take a lot of responsibility. As one prepares for a
future in the field of Biology, one must consider the historical background, the educational
requirements, the work environment, the duties and responsibilities, wages and benefits, and the
potential for advancement of Botany.
Botany began near the Neolithic Period but wasn t scientifically studied until the 1700 s. During the
Neolithic Period they had the knowledge of farming and soon began growing their own crops. Fruits
and vegetables have been an important part of social development since the beginning of time. In
Ancient Greece and Rome philosophers urged more learning in sciences, they began learning more
about plants. The philosopher Theophrastus was known as The Father of Botany because of two
seminal works that were used for the next 1500 years and survive today (Mason). For the next 1500
years, there would be little development and most botanical studies were limited to places of learning
such as universities and monasteries (Mason). The history of Botany is very diverse

Analysis Of The Movie Voyager
Introduction. Now, Voyager is a 1942 melodramatic movie starring Bette Davis as Charlotte Vale, a
depressed, overweight Bostonian spinster who transforms into a confident, independent woman.
Charlotte has been dominated and repressed all of her life by her mother, Mrs. Henry Vale (Gladys
Cooper). Eventually, Charlotte s depression reaches a breaking point, and a nervous breakdown
ensues. Renowned psychiatrist, Dr. Jaquith (Claude Rains), takes Charlotte to his sanitarium for
treatment. After Charlotte s mental health improves, she takes an ocean voyage, where she falls in love
with a married man, Jerry Durrant (Paul Henread). When Charlotte returns home, her mother still
continues to bully her. Mother accidently dies of a heart attack and Charlotte blames herself. To cope
with this tragedy, Charlotte travels to Dr. Jacquith s sanitarium where she discovers Jerry s neurotic,
mother dominated daughter, Tina (Janis Wilson). Charlotte decides to become a second mother to
Tina. By the end of the movie, Charlotte blooms into a more confident and independent woman
(Wallis Rapper, 1942). The movie was based on a novel of the same name by Olive Higgins Pouty.
She borrowed the title from Walt Whitman s 1892 poem, Leaves of Grass under the sub section of
Untold Wants . The movie was directed by Irving Rapper and was nominated for three Academy
Awards, but only won for Best Score (TCMDb, 2005, 2010). In 2007, Now, Voyager was selected by

  • 2. Investigate the Behaviour of Organisations and the Market... Introduction In this assignment I will identify the structure of markets within the economy and explain how they deviate from the model of perfect competition. I will also expand on which market forces dominate the market place, identifying the organisational responses to demand including the adoption of competitive strategies within the free market. Finally I will explain the role of the competition commission and regulatory bodies. Market Types The most important factor within any market is the number of rivals competing for a share of the business. Competition, as described by Stigler, G (2008) arises whenever two or more parties strive for something that all cannot obtain. Perfect competition is seen as a theoretical ideal and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Market forces Market forces are primarily concerned with the supply of and demand for goods and services within the free market. The demand for a good can be influenced by many factors such as price, available substitutes and a person s income. Price can be one of the primary forces when looking at the demand for a product, it does however have limitations. Demand may not necessarily rise if the price drops below a certain level, people will automatically assume an inferior product and not purchase it. Similarly if a product that is essential to the consumer is priced higher the demand may not decrease, petrol is a good example of this. In order for us to predict how much someone is willing to buy at a given price, we must first create a demand schedule, which can be represented as a demand curve. (Fig 1.) Fig 1. It is apparent that as the price of an item increases, the quantity demanded reduces. This is an over simplification as there are many non price factors affecting demand. The Ceteris paribus clause can best used to describe this method of analysis. Non price factors affecting demand Product substitution occurs when the demand for one product affects the demand of another. Although price can influence peoples decision to buy a substitute, personal taste, brand loyalty and demography can influence decisions often more persuasively than price. People s income can also affect their purchasing habits, often increasing their ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Reliability And Validity Of Interviews Essay Then turn to interviews. Interviews are classed as a qualitative research method and remain one of the most utilised research methods in industrial and HRM research. Whipp (1998, p.55) notes that The interview is the primary means of accessing the experiences and subjective views of actors . The main advantage of the interviews is that the rich data can be obtained from an interview. According to White (1989) the research into solicitor s perceptions of ACAS was relatively easy to set up and forty interviews are completed for five months. It is necessary to use interviews to gain more detailed, in depth explanations from participants, which may provide a much better understanding of their perceptions and actions. On the other hand, The time consuming nature of preparing, arranging, conducting and writing up interview, which refers to that it is probable only a limited number of research participants can be interviewed within a short time period may be the biggest disadvantage of the interviews. The reliability and validity of any research conducted are clearly of importance. An Ethical and Global Analysis of Software Offshore Outsourcing Introduction Before acquiring its current negative connotation, outsourcing referred to the practice of turning over parts of a business to a company that specialized in that activity. The 1920s started out with a wrongful lawsuit and ended with and economic shutdown. The 1950s started out with fighting in wars against communism and ended with and economic growth. Both eras were a lesson for society. The 1920s and 1950s has many differences and similarities between each other. The 1920s was a time of economic growth, inventions, and spending money. During the 1920s, America was renamed as new society and new standard of living (Foner, 773). Little did society know was that the 1920s was the reason for the Great Depression in the 1929. This time era had a rough start because there was a prohibition on manufacturing and selling alcohol (Foner, 742). There also an awakening of what America was really like for the immigrants, for example, the convictions of two Italians, Bartolomeo Vanzetti and Nicola Sacco. Vanzetti and Sacco were accused of partaking in an armed robbery and murder of a security guard (Foner, 768). This raises about the corruption of the government, and how it destabilized basic American freedom because these men were seen as threats to the American Life (Foner, 769). There were no evidence against Sacco and Vanzetti, yet they still got the death penalty (Foner, 769). The 1920s were also famous for the Jazz Age and Roaring Twenties (Foner, 769, 770). I picked my top four favorite authentic Mexican restaurants to review and critique based on price, menu, service, house salsa, and appearance to help peoples, as future customers, decide which restaurant is the best choice for them. For all four restaurants none of them are entirely overpriced. In terms of bang, buck Riviera Maya is best option. He/she pay $8 $9 for a quality burrito that he/she can only finish about half of. • 16. Characteristics Of A Representative Democracy I. Introduction Though the modern academic may describe a political regime as a democracy , what they almost always imply is that said political regime is a representative democracy. A representative democracy obtains its legitimacy from the agency of the people; for a democracy to be representative, officials are elected to represent the interests of their citizens and are thus accountable to both the rules of political institutions and the needs of their constituents. The most basic facets to a representative democracy such as free and fair elections and strong competition between political parties are cornerstones to the structuring of a representative democracy, and yet there are cases within the past century in which representative democracies with elections and competitive political parties descend into authoritarian regimes. So though the election of representatives is paramount to modern democracies, there are other factors that constitute what Leonardo Morlino calls the qualities of democracy. Morlino subdivides the qualities of a democracy into rule of law, electoral accountability, institutional accountability, competition, participation, freedom and equality, and responsiveness. There is no denial that all seven of these criteria Morlino are essential to the establishment and maintenance of a representative democracy. However, I would like to argue that four of the most important aspects to assessing the quality of a democracy are independent branches of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

He was our Canadian Prime Minister from April 22, 1963 to April 20, 1968. Pearson helped make us grow as a country and brought us together as a nation. Pearson is the reason that Canada has its outstanding flag and the reason that Canadians have pension plans. Just a few of the important things he did to make Canada an amazing country were; putting universal Medicare into effect, passing the Royal Commission on Bilingualism and Biculturalism, and he helped bring the Canadian and American Auto Pact into play. To do this, he thought it would be smart to recruit three leading Quebec activists into the Federal Government so that Quebec could felt they had an important spot in Canada. These three men were known as the three wise men . Their names were Jean Marchand, Gerald Pelletier, and Jean Marchand. This shows that Pearson, although he was English Canadian, knew that the French Canadians were a huge part of making Canada the country that it was. Just because they spoke a different language did not mean they had any less rights then the English Canadians. Pearson saw this and knew it was his duty to make the French Canadians welcome in their own home country so they would stop pushing for separation. This is an important part to Canada s legacy because if Quebec did end up separating from the rest of Canada, it would have a big impact on everyone. Our country is not that same without Quebec. Needing cash with which to fund the Civil War, Abraham Lincoln and the Congress agreed to impose a 3 percent tax on annual incomes over $800.00. The wording of the Revenue Act was broadly written to define income as a monetary gain derived from any kind of property, or from any professional trade, employment, or vocation carried on in the United States or elsewhere or from any source whatever. Meaning that taxpayers pay more in taxes if they earn more in income. For example, taxpayers may pay 25% of their income in taxes up to a certain amount, and 35% of everything earned over that amount. One theory about the use of the progressive taxation is that people or businesses who earn the same or a similar amount of money should be taxed in the same or a similar way. A good example of that theory states that two individuals making $75,000 per year should be taxed the same amount, regardless of how they earned their income. While most countries have some form of progressive taxation, it is usually combined with other taxes, such as a sales tax, and few countries treat all income as exactly the same. This kind of taxation is still in effect today, bigger corporations are taxed more than the smaller mom and pop businesses. The focus of what the government wanted to tax changed over the years, it started with taxing incomes and then moved on to taxing tobacco and distilled spirits and eliminated the income tax in 1872. It had a short lived revival in 1894 and 1895. In the latter year, the U.S. Supreme Court decided that the income tax was unconstitutional because it was not apportioned among the states in conformity with the Constitution. It is hard to pinpoint what he is, and what he looks like, all I can provide is shots in the dark, a desperate attempt to shed light to this misunderstood personae. Like an ill man he may swear inside him, and like Dostoevsky s Underground Man he will let out a high pitched cry that speaks: Enough! This world is not enough! He is still motionless for although he wants to dance, his mind is not at ease what is the use of dancing anyway, when all the troubles of the world burden his shoulders (Kaufmann 71, 72)? Democracy is considered as a peaceful entity and the world without war. American president Woodrow Wilson, for example, believes that democracy is inherently peace desiring and consequently contributes to the world peace, replacing war like political regime (Gat, 2006). Democracy is a system of government, consisted of four key elements. Firstly, it is a means of choosing the leaders of the citizens and replacing the government, if they do not achieve their commitments, through free and fair election. Secondly, people actively participate in the public and civic life in democracy. Democracy depends on the participation of the citizens, and it must be peaceful, respectful of the law, and tolerant of the different views of other groups and individuals. Thirdly, every individual has the certain rights, which the state cannot take away from him or herself in democracy. In other words, the human rights of all citizens is protected by the democracy. Finally, democracy is a system of rule by laws, not by individuals, and the rule of law protects the rights of citizens, maintains order, and limits the power of government. Every person is equal under the law (Barkawi and Laffey, 2001). Although this number is staggering, we have also seen soldiers surviving injuries that were previously fatal (Philpott, 2005). This increase in survivability is largely due to the advancements in medical research and applied training. In fact, on the island of Kauai, a well known ancient Hawaiian burial ground was excavated to make room for a huge condominium resort project. Out of 22 acres of sacred burial grounds, only a one acre parcel was left, and human remains were displaced and moved to make room for the project. This was devastating to the native Hawaiians who had loved ones buried there for centuries, but seemed to be insignificant to the tourism industry that seemed only to be worried about their new project and making money. Hundreds of other cultural and historic sites have been bulldozed to make way for hotels and golf course developments without regard for the environmental effects of their actions. In addition to disrupting the environment with huge new buildings, many other sites such as ancient temples, house sites, fishing shrines, ceremonial platforms and agricultural have been turned into tourist attractions and have been misused, abused and disrespected by tourism. The difference between slaves and servants is that slaves were owed for life or until their master decided to let them leave or they died. Indentured servants were granted freedom, safe passage to the country and land ownership after working the length of their contract, as previously agreed upon. One of the main reasons slaves and indentured servants were so vital to the British colonies is that they were cheap and effective labor. They were able to work in the fields planting, fertilizing, watering and picking the crop when it was ready to be harvested for consumption or profit. Due to the fast harvests, the Americans were able to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In 1705 there were not many indentures servants anymore. The British colonies started hiring slaves due to the fact that they were owned for life and they didn t have to be let go due to their contracts expiring. Slaves also had less rights than indentured servants due to the changes in the slave laws. The Americans justified enslaving Africans in several ways. The Americans thought less of them; that they weren t even human but personal property to do with as they pleased. These views all came in to account due to their skin color being darker. The American s thought they were evil since they were so dark complected. That they were stupid and couldn t make their own way in the world. They would make them work long hours in horrible conditions such as out in field all day in the hot sun without breaks. Their living conditions were horrible, they weren t allowed medical care and were not fed on a consistent basis. They were beaten, killed and many of the women were sexually abused by their masters. Many of the slaves died due to malnourishment and disease. The American colonists justified their actions by viewing that they were taking care of them by providing food, shelter and a means to live by. That without them they would still be in Africa starving, homeless and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Why The Reliefs On The Ara Pacis For Matrix Cell 1 The Ara Pacis and the Idealization of Power in the Age of Augustus I am choosing to focus on the imperial portrait reliefs from the Ara Pacis for matrix cell 1 because this monument combines politics, religion and social values. The Ara Pacis Augustae epitomizes the Mos Maiorum, the visual manifestation of Roman virtues and laws. This paper will explain why the reliefs on the Ara Pacis can be considered political propaganda. Furthermore, I will analyze how the art in this monument exhibits the importance of civic piety in Roman politics. The construction of the Ara Pacis was commissioned by the Senate on the 4th of July in13 BC to celebrate the triumphant return of Augustus from his campaigns in Iberia and Gaul after three years of absence. During this time he was forging alliances and organizing the southern provinces of Gaul that would insure the prosperity of Rome. The construction of this monument marks a great period of peace inaugurated by Augustus after a series of political upheavals that scourged Rome following the assassination of Julius Caesar in 44 BC and which lasted until the Battle of Actium in 31 BC. For the first time since Rome began to build her empire, the provinces flourished within the context of the Pax Romana . The reliefs of the Ara Pacis are divided between allegorical and historical panels on the upper register, while the lower register is decorated with acanthus scrolls that symbolize control over nature. The reliefs of the northern and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
