Henr Henry Reyna In Zoot Suit By Luis Valdez
Henry Reyna played an essential role as the main character of the Zoot Suit and Other Plays book,
written by Luis Valdez. Henry Reyna a 21 year old, who was the leader of the 38th St gang, continued
to inform the readers throughout the book of the injustices that occurred involving the Mexican
American population. Henry Reyna, including the members of the 38th. St. Gang was identified by
Law enforcement based off their style of dress, language, demographic area, and culture. Henry Reyna
s character is constantly battling discrimination by the law enforcement, and the tabloids throughout
this play. Henry Reyna s, and his gang were involved in a bias court ruling eviction for a crime that
they could not prove was committed. This led to a Mexican American riot as a result, clearing Henry
and gang of all charges. Henry Reyna was an advocate for truth, family man, victim, and a leader that
fought for change. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Henry had a strong sense of self entitlement, and expected other people to treat him with respect.
Henry Reyna s felt as if his life wasn t fulfilling according to the Zoot Suit book Henry stated,
Maybe I was wanting to much out of life see. Ever since I was a kid, I ve had this feeling like there s a
big party going on someplace, and I m invited but I don t know how to get there. And I want to go
there bad, I ll even risk my life to make it. ( Zoot Suit. Page 55).
Looking at the text above this reflects his determination to prosper and succeed in his life journey.
However he lacked the understanding of how to become prosperous, and reach his goals in life.
Perhaps the contradiction occurred during the times that discrimination were

This Essay will compare and contrast two different research methods that are qualitative and
quantitative methods endeavouring to highlight differences and similarities between them, and
providing example how they are applied through airline industry.

marketing opportunities and problems, monitors and evaluates marketing actions and performance,
and communicates the findings and implications to managements. This basically means that, a

According to British Airways annual report and accounts (2009/10) the interviews were conducted to

Neruda Poetry Analysis
Reflective Statement Neruda Poetry
Throughout the interactive oral, we discussed Neruda s beliefs and how they influenced his poetry.
Moreover, we discussed how these things not only influenced his writing style, but also his life.
Previously, I thought that I could not relate to Neruda because his beliefs differed very much from
mine. These beliefs clashed because Neruda is from a Latin American country that is communist, and
he is also a communist; while someone like me lives in the United States which is a democracy.
Following this, Neruda s work was easier to relate to than I had originally thought because he talks
about the Latin American struggle and gave his people a voice in poems such as United Fruit co. when
he names the American companies that took advantage of Chile and other Latin American countries.
In the IOQ, we as a class think communists are bad because of the way they are displayed in the
United States, but the IOQ helped me understand that Neruda was more than a communist. Neruda
was a person who used his platform, and took risks writing controversial poems about the struggle of
his people to give them a voice, and politics to expose the corruptness of those leaders because they
were not only taking advantage of their people but also giving communism a negative connotation.
Adding on, Neruda was a strong advocate for communism which influenced his writing also even
though he wrote about other communist leaders such as Martinez and Trujillo, his love for
communism was shown when he wrote the ode to Fidel Castro. Neruda admires Castro because in his
eves Fidel Castro does communism the right way unlike Martinez and Trujillo who took advantage of
their countries resources and people. The way Neruda portrays Fidel Castro contradicts the way
America portrays him because Castro is characterized as a person who killed anyone that got in the
way of his vision of a perfect Cuba, While Neruda characterizes him as hero of communism because
he did not corrupt his people by letting American companies take over Cuba and take advantage of the
people of Cuba.
Overall, the IOQ enhanced my appreciation and understanding of Neruda s work, some of Neruda s
work was controversial, yet people could still relate

The Social World
Sexualisation of the social world has become a very prominent social issue since the early 90 s. It has
affected many influential individuals in devastating ways such as that of eating disorders, body image
issues and mental illnesses. This essay will explore sociological explanations to understand and draw
conclusions on why the sexualisation of culture has and continues to occur today. I will explore
feminism and how it has influenced sexualisation of culture today and how pornography has
influenced todays pornification problems.
One sociological explanation for this is that of a multitude of factors related to that of feminism. In the
mid 1970s child abuse was brought to public eye by a group of second wave feminists also known as
... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is the most significant of the factors that laid the ground for shift of sexualisation to become a
recognised social issue from its former clinical term (Fredrickson 1992).
However, positioning the innocence of a child to symbolise femininity began to counter benefit the
movement by setting the tone for the return of traditional family values. For example, the innocent girl
was remobilized to attack the legalization of child abortion, a goal that feminists had achieved years
earlier. This debacle however did provide the ideal social conditions for today s sexualisation problem
to be identified as in 1981 journalists were beginning to investigate the sudden sexualisation of young
females. Sexualisation being used to describe mal socialization which in fact separates children from
their natural essence causing premature entry in adult forms of sexual subjectivity. For example, that
of play makeup for girls (Schiro 1981).
Another sociological explanation that is provided for the pornification of media today is that of the
evolution of porn. Pornographic content has always been in existence with our culture with prehistoric
rock art dated before civilisation depicting sexual acts. This can also be seen in art work during the
Victorian era such as that of the painting by Édouard Manet titled Olympia which was a nude picture
of a French courtesan which

Introduction
Erythrocytes (red blood cells RBCs), leukocytes (white blood cells WBCs), and thrombocytes
(platelets) are there primary components of blood. All are produced and developed in the bone marrow
with the participation of other organs and systems such as lymph nodes, spleen, and liver. This process
is called hematopiesis.
Most hematologic diseases and surgery complications related to blood can be detected through the
complete blood count (CBC). WBC with or without differentials, RBC, Hct, Hgb, and platelet counts

Confederate Statues Essay
The issue of whether or not the Confederate statues is in huge debate. Some think that the monuments
stand for a lost cause of racism and white pride while others believe the statues should continue to
stand for history and reembrace purposes. But should the federal government do anything about the
statues? The simple answer for this question is up to the people that live in the town or the district of
the city or town. It still comes down to these statues are property. What they stand for should not
matter. They were bought and paid for by the people that lived in the town when the statue was made.
Or the statue was adopted by the town and then became city property. (a)Whoever, in a circumstance
described in subsection (b), willfully injures or destroys, or attempts to injure or destroy, any structure,
plaque, statue, or other monument on public property commemorating the service of any person or
persons in the armed forces of the United States shall be fined under this title, imprisoned not more
than 10 years, or both.
(b)A circumstance described in this subsection is that
(1)
in committing the offense described in subsection (a), the defendant travels or causes another to travel
in interstate or foreign commerce, or uses the mail or an instrumentality of interstate or foreign
commerce; or
(2)
the structure, plaque, statue, or other monument described in subsection (a) is located on property
owned by, or under the jurisdiction of, the Federal Government. (Added Pub. L. 108 29, § 2(a), May

A Cat In The Stacks Mystery Series
Arsenic And Old Books is the sixth book in the A Cat In The Stacks Mystery series.
Without a doubt this is my favorite series with a feline character. I love reading about Diesel and his
human sidekick, Charlie Harris.
The story starts with the mayor of Athena, Lucinda Long, donating four diaries of the Long family that
date back to the Civil War. Practically before Charlie Harris even has a chance to peruse this
wonderful addition to the archives of Athena College, Marie Steverton assistant professor, demands
that she have exclusive rights to the diaries. She is quickly running out of time to get tenure and is
hoping that the diaries will give her the inside track. Shortly after this Kelly Grimes contacts Charlie

U.s. Dollar, China s Central Bank
In order to contend with the US Dollar, China s central bank has devalued the Yuan nearly 2% in
August 2015.This bank policy was seemed to be a wave to the Chinese market, even the economic
market all around the world, which brought a series of fluctuation and impact to the economy. Why
china took this monetary action to face with the problem from the US dollar (What are the factors)?
What is the (Positive or negative) influence will be aroused in the short term by this Chinese Yuan
depreciation? What will be happen if this devaluation last in the further and what will be affected by
this monetary policy in the long term? The following text will answer and analyse these three
questions.
Why china took this monetary step to against with Us ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
So it is easy to conclude that china s economic markets are sluggish and weak, for these reasons,
China should adopt this monetary strategy to deal with these series of problems, and keeping the
healthy and steady growth in economic markets. On the other hand, China wanted to increase the
monetary (Yuan) liquidity, further, wanted Yuan to become international reserve currency. Broadly
speaking, China hoped to consolidate its central position in the global economic markets. In
conclusion, pulling the healthy and steady growth internally and pushing Chinese monetary (Yuan)
circulate in the international economic market, externally are the two key factors drove China to
devalue Yuan.
In the short term, this depreciation action will bring varying degree of positive and negative impact in
China and Global world. In the aspect of positive impact, Chinese aggregate demand will go up
considerably in the short run. Aggregate demand is the total level of spending in the economy and
consists of four elements: consumer spending (C), private investment (I), government expenditure on
goods and services (G) and expenditure on exports (X) less expenditure on imports (M), Thus
AD=C+I+G+X M. (Sloman, Wride and Garratt, 2015). According to the Diagram 1

Strengths and Resiliencies
The state of Minnesota is one of the areas in the country with the most organization that work towards
social empowerment. These organizations are steadfast in helping the public deal with social issues
and other problems such as anxiety, depression that may result from many reasons such as poverty and
the hardships faced in life that may lead to an increase in the truancy rates in schools. This is one of
the strengths boasted by the county in an effort to make the counties within the state resilient to social

Personal Reflection Of Tort Law And Public Law
So for week one, I was not sure what some of these laws have to do with my position at OU. I still do
not understand what some of these laws have to do with my current position at OU. I do better
understand how some of these laws could and can benefit me as a homeowner. I also understand how
tort law could affect the patients that I see and assist in caring for. Tort law governs injuries or harm
caused by one person to another person . This could help the patients if they get hurt from the
treatments they receive. I also understand that these different laws could affect me if I were a manager
of a company. I learned about Public law and how it affects us every day and how we interact every
day. We read about Federal law and that it is like the constitution. Federal law mandates us as well as
the government. I learned about Civil law and that it determines what the law is. I learned a lot about
what exactly is state laws, which determine things like speed limit, property tax, sales tax, and city
ordinances. All of these laws affect our everyday life. We must know what our state laws are, so we do
not have to face the consequences of breaking them. When you break the law or laws you face the
chance of receiving a citation or going to jail. During the first week of school I also went over the Ten
Commandments. These laws are still relevant today. In fact, our constitution was founded on these
laws. God wants us to also follow the law of the land and obey their law

Personal Responsibility Pros And Cons
Personal Responsibility and Work Opportunity Reconciliation Act of 1996 (PRWORA)The United
States took on a major reform of the social welfare system with the passing of thePersonal
Responsibility and Work Opportunity Act (PRWORA), signed into law by President Clinton in August
of 1996. This policy essentially changed the nation s social welfare system by replacing a federal
entitlement program for low income families, called Aid to Families with Dependent Children
(AFDC), with the Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) program. The primary focus is
on moving welfare recipients from primarily getting cash assistance to working in order to lower

For example, unemployed workers who receive an unemployment benefit may be able continue to
support their families. Disadvantages:The biggest disadvantage of welfare is its cost to the local
governments that control it. Even with federal support, states feel the burden of welfare in each annual
budget. One of the concerns is that welfare may discourage some recipients to seek work, since an
increase in earnings would exclude them from getting free benefits. Fraud would also be a concern if
someone supplies false information in order to get benefits that they do not qualify for. Alternative:As
an alternative of giving welfare directly to those in need, funding programs that educate on new skills
or help seeking jobs for the unemployed should be implemented. These programs, if implemented, can
show drastic changes in unemployment rates over time. Restrictions on welfare, such as the time
limits for getting unemployment benefits or a maximum monthly food stamp allowance, serve to limit
the government s responsibility in a way that open ended welfare does not. Conclusion: The social
welfare reform has improved tremendously but still has more progress to be

Loa Dylan To Me Essay
Dylan further represents America as a place with significant corruption and misconduct within the
song. Verse 12 reads; Bent out of shape from society s pliers, Cares not to come up any higher, But
rather get you down in the hole . This line plays into the idea of keeping the human machine running,
society s pliers shape a person much like the aforementioned everyman completing his nine to five job
to feed the system . However, this line blatantly mentions But rather get you down in the hole . The
idea of trying to keep particular people down through the systematic means of government relates to
the oppression of black Americans of the time. Keeping certain people down for the government s
benefit is clearly what the US government did to black Americans in an institutionalised fashion.

America that adopted materialism and conformity were exposed through a multitude of Dylan s lyrics

World War I was a devastating war that was mainly Britain, Russia, France, and the US against
Austria Hungary, Germany, and the Ottoman Empire. Throughout the entire war, many different
strategies and tactics were used by the /parties. Some were genius and some were absolute failures.
There were a multitude of goals different powers wanted, and each one took unique approaches to
achieve said goals. One of the first plans of WWI was developed almost a decade before the war
actually took place. The Schlieffen Plan, which Alfred von Schlieffen, Chief of the Imperial German

Danilov argued that on the outbreak of war in Europe the German Army would concentrate its forces
against France. Danilov therefore suggested that four of its armies should immediately invade East
Prussia. In 1912 it was decided to heavily alter Plan 19. Only two armies were now to attack East
Prussia with the rest concentrating on defending Russia from the Austro Hungarian Army. Now the
way soldiers attacked in WWI is interesting. Military actions designed to take control of enemy
trenches were called attacks or offensives. The difference between attacks and offensives are an attack
usually involved a division (16,000 men) while an offensive was bigger and would use at least one
corps. The main objective of an attack was to break the enemy line, but an offensive was an attempt to
occupy any positions that were taken during the operation. This meant that consistent fighting raised
serious problems of running out of supplies. Before attacks and offensives took place, heavy artillery
was used to soften up the enemy trenches. At the offensive at the Somme in the summer of 1916
General Douglas Haig ordered an eight day preliminary bombardment before sending 750,000 men
(27 divisions) to attack the German

Sex Drugs And Roll Essay
Sex, drugs and rock and roll. These were the values of the young generation of the mid 1960 s. This
generation was pushing the limits of sexual, social, and political inhibitions and behind the force of
their hippie love was the engine of psychedelic rock and roll music. This genre of rock music is
inspired by the counterculture scene of the 1950 s and 60 s and attempts to capture the mind altering
feelings and emotions attached to psychedelic drugs. The first group to advertise themselves as
psychedelic rock was the 13th Floor Elevators from Texas, at the end of 1965. However, the
partnership of drugs and music goes back much further than that. The Beat Generation writers in the
second half of the 1950 s, such as William Burroughs, Jack Kerouac and Allen Ginsberg, used and
wrote about drugs like cannabis and Benzidrine, which popularized and raised more awareness of drug
use. The culture of drug use had long pervaded jazz ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

also contributed to the progression of psychedelic music, such as New York City, Detroit, Chicago,

The And Other By Ursula K. Le Guin
Here are the two cardinal truths of life: Boys aren t allowed to like the color pink and girls should
forget about a career of their own and instead strive to act as arm candy to their more accomplished
significant others. It s hard to imagine that these values are considered controversial to some but both
Ursula K. Le Guin, the celebrated science fiction author who penned works such as The Left Hand of
Darkness (1969), and Paul Theroux, an American travel writer best known for The Great Railway
Bazaar (1975), argue that they are socially harmful and socially regressive in nature. Both novelists
implicitly trace the root of the problem to the idea of The Other, a group viewed as different from one
s own, this identification of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the end Le Guin s audience is gifted with a succinct, convincing paper as she successfully manages
to present a strong argument whereas by the end of his paper all Theroux proves to be successful at is
alienating himself. The approach both Theroux and Le Guin took to formatting their arguments helped
solidify their ideas, which easily coexist and even work to support each other. Theroux begins his
paper by defining what it means to be a man stating, It means: Be stupid, be unfeeling, obedient,
soldierly and stop thinking. (2) His intent, in this passage, is to express just how socially harmful
society s definition of manhood can be and he goes on to provide examples of the effects this thinking
has on both genders. He believes it contributes to the widening of the gap between the genders and
encourages them to think of members of the opposite sex as The Other . To be this kind of man means
to insist on a divide between the genders, depriving men of natural, healthy emotions and, although
perhaps unconsciously, promoting the idea of male superiority. He insists that to be a man in

Dva Yug The Role Of Human Being In Greek And Indian Myths
Nature and human beings had a long intertwined history throughout all creation myths. In most myths
nature helped play a role in the creation of humans. However it was not all harmonious between
humans and nature, in Greek mythology and Indian mythology they both started in a perfect world,
humans had no fear, a golden age, where humans thrived. Throughout the ages, nature slowly became
worst and worst for humans the insertion of disease, greed and famine. Nature and humans have
always been at a harmonious and at odds with each other. However between Greek mythology and

each change of Yuga it would lose a leg causing it to become more unstable. Humans have endured a

Nadine Triple Bind
Nadine, on the other hand, illustrates the case of the adolescent who never lives up to the conflicting
demands of the pedestal role. Moreover, as a teenage girl, Nadine is faced with the same stress that
Darian encounters with the additional stress of what Hinshaw terms the Triple Bind (Hinshaw 6). That
is, Nadine, like all other teenage girls, are bound by the (1) the need to excel at girl stuff, (2) the need
to excel at boy stuff, and (3) the need to fit into the narrow beauty and behavior standards assigned to
girls (Hinshaw 7). In the first case, a girl that wants to feel normal knows the drill: bond with your
girlfriends, support your boyfriend, and make your family proud... the essence of these girl skills is
maintaining relationships: ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For Nadine and many others, the consequence is abandonment. Nadine s failure to fit into the behavior
standards set for women result in her inability to form a peer cluster throughout her youth. Likewise,
after failing to sacrifice herself for her friends and family, Nadine s mother, brother, best friend and
love interest have all abandoned her. Furthermore, Nadine s father s death was a kind of abandonment,
and unfortunately, this trauma heightens Nadine s sensitivity to betrayal in her relationships. Clark
explains that the consequences of ripped apart family system remain a constant source of brokenness
throughout one s life (48). Moreover, Nadine, like other adolescents, feels pressure to meet the
unrealistic expectations assigned to her in part because she is immersed in a larger culture of
abandonment in which social institutions and adults abandon their responsibilities to adolescents, and
instead, they assume that adolescents should fulfill roles that serve adult interests (Clark 27) . Nadine s
mother demonstrates this attitude because she believes that her teens should sit on a pedestal to serve
her emotional needs. Unfortunately, for Nadine and many other teens, a willingness to meet these
conflicting expectations will not automatically lead to their independent flourishing and success; More
often than not, it leads to a sacrifice of intrinsic motivation and

The Pros And Cons Of The United States And The USSR
The United States and the USSR are acting the same way towards one another; defending and
spreading what they believe in. After the second world war, the United States and the USSR were
bitter rivals. They both attempted to stop one another from spreading their political structure and
culture to other developing countries. The United States believed and used Capitalism, an open market
of industry and trade as people have private ownership, rather than a more Communist like society.
Communism is a society in which all property is publicly owned and each person works and is paid
according to their abilities and needs. As both nations had very different culture and structure, they
both had plans to stop the other from spreading, This has come ... Show more content on

On February 22, 1946, there was a telegram given to the US State Department of officials from an
American Foreign Service officer stationed in Moscow, George Kennan, depicting information of the
beliefs of the Russians against capitalism. In summary, it stated Stalin and the Soviets believe that
communism is better than capitalism, and that Stalin and the Soviets believe they will win. The
telegram also had stated, The United States policy toward the Soviet Union must be that of a long
term, patient but vigilant containment of Russian expansive tendencies. [Doc A]. This demonstrates
that the intentions of the USSR are that of destroying capitalism by the warning given by George
Kennan to try to stop the spread of communism from gaining too much power and the belief that they
themselves would win. This demonstration was heard and the following year in July, the actions to
stop communism began. The Truman Doctrine declared the support for developing countries against
the communist threat. And again in the following year, there was another policy against the
communist threat; the Marshall Plan. The Marshall Plan gave over twelve billion dollars [over 140

military support for the developing countries, to limit the power of the

Fried Green Tomatoes Essay
Fried Green Tomatoes with a hint of Southern Gothic Lit Southern Gothic literature is a type of
Southern writing. Southern gothic literature can be found in many old books that date back to the 1900
s. These stories often have a grotesque theme to them. Whether it be supernatural elements, social
issues, or a brutal act of violence. Southern Gothic literature has a style of its own. The movie Fried
Green Tomatoes by Fannie Flagg is about the true meaning of friendship. The time frame around this
movie is around the 1990 s and flashbacks to the 1930 s. In the movie there was a strong movement
for women and their strength. This is played out by the ignored Evelyn Couch a desperate wife trying
to fix her marriage, and Idgie a rebellious ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The audience was shown how a little girls best friend was brutally taken away from her and how she
dealt with the grief of his death. Idgie s close relationship with her older brother, Buddy, is cut short
when he is hit by a train and killed. Devastated by his death, she recedes from formal society for much
of her childhood . Idgie was mourning her brothers death for most of her life, she learned from a small
age that no one can escape oblivion. Southern gothic literature has a way of showing that the world is
not always as easy as it looks and no matter how good life may seem it can switch up at any given
moment. Another example was the death of Idgie s best friend (possible lover) Ruth Jamison. After the
trial, Ruth is diagnosed with cancer, becomes very ill, and eventually dies. Following her death, the
café closes and Over time, many Whistle Stop residents eventually move away. Idgie is devastated
once again that another important person was taken away from her life. When you think of Southern
Gothic literature the first thing that comes to mind is death. Gothic literature shows constant signs of
death, unnatural deaths, or a series of deaths. All of which contribute to making the atmosphere of the
story more horrifying. In other words death in Gothic literature is associated with the unknown or the

Mise En Scene In Psycho
From the quote, we are able to see that all , if not most , of Hitchcock s films seek to play with the
viewer s emotions, often by leaving crumbs of suspense before the action, making the viewers go
through a myriad of emotions. Hence, for Psycho, I will be discussing three scenes where Hitchcock
has deliberately and precisely controlled via the film medium, to engage us. Argobhast and Norman s
conversation scene. In this scene, we see Argobhast s journey towards finding out the true reason of
Marion s disappearance and hence, Hitchcock plays us via Norman and Argobhast s first interaction.
Initially, the scene opens up on a light note, with Norman seen reading and eating candy and as the
non diegetic ominous sound slowly disappearing, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Upon entering the parlor, Hitchcock has set the stage for the viewer to use Marion as a vehicle to
determine how Norman is like. The POV shot of Marion studying the room first brings out attention to
a stuffed Owl and a stuffed crow, the first indicator to the viewer that something is not right, making
us feel suspicious already. Marion then takes the seat closer to the tiffany lamp while Norman takes
the seat at the opposite side of the room which is noticeably darker. Mise en scence in this scene does
the most to capture the true personalities of the characters. For Marion, Hitchcock has deliberately
surrounded her with objects such as the lamp which is actually the only source of light for the whole
room, a pitcher of milk and several other scenic objects. Furthermore, the milk may perhaps
symbolize innocence that despite the crime committed, there is a redeeming quality within Marion that
will save her. As Marion sits closest to the lamp, her face remains brightly lit up and similarly casting
the same effect towards the objects around her. The viewer upon seeing Marion, unconsciously feels at
ease within her presence, perhaps even forgetting that Marion is no

A fair policy is one that treats every student the same. For example, The Butler School of Music at the
UT Austin has many student musicians who perform at the professional level and advises its students
on how to negotiate a contract and get paid for their performances according to the website. Another
example would be actress Emma Watson, who enrolled at Brown University in Rhode Island, was able
to work on the set of the Harry Potter movies while attending the school s theatre department. Can you
imagine Brown University officials telling Watson that she would have to make the next two Harry

Compared to musicians and actors, student athletes have a greater need to obtain money while they are
still in college. Their professional careers are likely to be much shorter due to the wearing and tearing
of your body. Second, college may be the only time some student athletes have the chance to take
advantage of their success. Student athletes often leave school with permanent injuries and no medical
insurance or job prospects, whereas musicians and actors rarely suffer career ending injuries on the job
(Zimbalist). We see how musicians and actors can profit from their talents so athletes should have the

The Third And Last Pillar Of The German Banking System Essay
Commercial Banks The third and last pillar of the German banking system consists of commercial
banks also known in the third pillar as the market discipline. The third pillar gives out more public
disclosure and reporting requirements, compared to the other two pillars, with its increased
transparency. The amount of this increased disclosure is for giving the public and also the global
market a more comprehensible vision of where the bank stands in terms of risk. (Feig) With Universal
banks being the more common type, responsible for about 75 % of all transactions carried out in the
banking sector, these banks offer a greater amount of financial services and are more varied than
services of the specialized banks. These commercial banks offer typical banking services such as
setting up and watching over clients checking and savings accounts, process their payments, lending
money to clients, and as well as issuing bonds to clients. As of today, there lies roughly about 300
private banks all throughout Germany. It was only until the crisis in 2008 where five major banks used
to dominate the whole entire private sector. These five banks were Hypovereinsbank, Deutsche
Postbank AG, Deutsche Bank, Commerzbank, and Dresdner Bank. Those five banks are more
internationalized than any other banks in the private sector that primarily focus on business clients and
the markets fluctuation activities. (Hassan) During the crisis in 2008, the bigger banks that Germany

Pros And Cons For English Colonization
Terifay 1

United States History

Motivations for English Colonization Greed was one of the leading causes to the English exploration
of the Americas. During the reign of Queen Elizabeth, Spain took the lead in exploring and setting up
colonies much in North America which in turn caused the English to become wary of a possible new
powerhouse and threat. Along with a fear of threat was also a want to inhabit the new land and thus
gain trading partners, find treasure, and expand before Spain had a chance to flood more of the vast
new land. Elizabeth rapidly set out to build a colony, first giving a charter to Sir Humphrey Gilbert,
Sir Walter Raleigh, no such English colony would exist until James I came to rule (Shi and Tindall 48
49). Eventually, Religious tension, a want for gold, and a desire for new goods led the English to
expand and configure colonies in the New World. After Elizabeth s death, the Church of England went
into a time of crisis. Many people found the rituals, bishops, and elaborate costumes and jewels to be
unnecessary to religion. Along with this, many people started to view bishops of the church as
dictatorial leaders who should have no part in government. The Puritans were one of the first groups
to question the showy form of church which would eventually lead them to the new world due to
being banished by the king for not following the basic principles. The Pilgrims were another group

Benefits Of Helicopter Parenting
For most kids, moving to college is the first time they will be out of their parents house for a long
period of time. This opens them up to a lot of new experiences. Ideally, they should be ready to face
the new challenges living out of the house will bring. In some cases, the child will have an extremely
difficult time learning how to take care of themselves. The parents of the child play a huge role in
whether or not their child is ready for this step. When raising the child, they made the decision to
either let their child learn things on their own, or help them with every single task the child is

This is when most parents would expect their children to become dependent and handle situations

president when their child has some sort of issue going on. It is very common for a grown child to text
their parents to solve problems for them. This is becoming a growing concern as today s college
students are more attached to their parents. There are many people who believe that letting children

Literature In The Canterbury Tales By Geoffrey Chaucer
Middle Ages Essay Literature in the Middle Ages is very different from the literature today, most
stories back then were written in a style called Medieval Romance and were often about chivalry and
morals. These stories were also written as poems and often had rhymes within the text. One story
written back then was The Canterbury Tales by Geoffrey Chaucer, it s about a group of people on a
journey to Canterbury and along the way each character tells a story, each with its own moral.
Although these tales were written back in the 14th Century, many of its morals still hold up to this day,
specifically the Pardoner s Tale , the Nun s Priest s Tale , and the Manciple s Tale . The moral of the

North Korea, they have militaristic and power hungry manchild as a dictator who believes he is a God

People in power will do anything to keep their ego high and have people below them to rule. The
lesson of the Manciple s Tale is to not spread gossip as it will eventually lead to conflicts. The tale is
about a man named Phoebus whose wife is having an affair with another man. One day his white crow
sees this man with his wife and tells Phoebus By a man of little reputation, one not worth you, in
comparison, not even worth a gnat, by my life! for on your bed I saw him have your wife. (149 152).
This angers Phoebus and leads him to kill his own wife, afterward he feels remorseful and turns his
crow black as a way to punish him. Gossip spreads around controversy and can eventually lead to
death, as it is in the Manciple s Tale. This type of thing happens all the time in the modern times
especially in High School, people hear rumors and gossip about others, in serious cases it could end in
fights or worse. Although The

The Power Of Stereotyping
The Power of Stereotypes
Throughout our American society, there have been topics, or more specifically, issues, that have been
implemented in our lives. Whether it be poverty, economic issues, equality, and thus forth, there is one
what has always been around for centuries, but has made a bigger impact is stereotyping. This in
particular topic has lead to a multitude of problems, such as social categorization, and the cause of
prejudice. The stereotyping propaganda in the United States has caused more problems and attracted
more attention than is truly needed. Stereotyping has been a normal occurrence since human beings
have been able to do so to others, as tragic as that is. Although it has been through our history, nothing
from the past can possibly compare to the amount of stereotyping going on in our world in the modern
day, and how much it impacts us and others around us. Robert L. Heilbroner says it best in his article
DON T LET STEREOTYPES WARP YOUR JUDGMENT (citation) Stereotypes are a kind of gossip
about the world, a gossip that makes us prejudge people before we ever lay eyes on them. Hence it is
not surprising that stereotypes have something to do with the dark world of prejudice (Heilbroner
Pg.19 number 5). He then goes on to say that Once we have typecast the world we tend to see people
in terms of our standardized pictures. He then goes on explaining about a demonstration he performed

Research Paper On Jupiter
Did you know that there is a planet in our own solar system that can fit over 1,300 Earths inside of
itself? Well this planet is Jupiter, it s the fifth planet from the sun and the largest by far. There are a lot
of interesting things about this mysterious planet, for example, there is a great big red spot in it s
atmosphere, it s a storm that s been going for over 300 years! It s bigger than earth and mars
combined!
Jupiter is really bright, so bright that you can see it at night without a telescope. So if you ask who
discovered this planet, there really is no answer. NASA says that the ancients discovered it back in
ancient times, it could be true because they only thing they needed would have been there eyes. There

Jupiter s atmosphere is mostly hydrogen and partly helium, 14% helium and 86% hydrogen. Jupiter
also has 66 known moons and there still may be some that are yet to be discovered. The biggest
moons are Europa, Ganymede, IO, and Callisto. Jupiter s ring system is very hard to see, it s mostly
made of dust. The main ring is only 19 miles thick and about 4000 miles wide. These rings were

One interesting thing about Jupiter is if it were 80 times greater, it would be a star, because it is pretty

people think of Jupiter as a mini solar system because of all of it s orbiting moons. So now you know

The Effects Of Salmon Farming On The Salmon Population Essay
Introduction
Fish, one of our most important sources of high quality protein, provides some 16% of the animal
protein consumed by the world s population, (Food Agriculture Organization, FAO, of the United
Nations, 1997). Our responses towards a growing demand for fish led to a boom in the salmon
farming industry (Naylor, et al., 1998). Unfortunately, the consequences of salmon farming outweigh
the value that comes with it. Even though salmon farming is steadily becoming more sustainable,
salmon farming is not a suitable and environmentally sound way of producing food due to the
negative issues salmon farming has caused in the environment, the salmon population, and the health
of humans.
Salmon farming effects to wild salmon population
Scientists of various fields have found that escaped salmon from fisheries have negatively impacted
the salmon population. The gradual increase of salmon farming has led to a higher rate of escaped
salmon reaching local ecosystems. As farmed salmon escape through weather events, poor
containment, careless handling, etc. the local ecology changes dramatically. In McGinnity s study
(2003), farmed salmon have been found to breed poorly and have difficulty surviving in comparison
to wild salmon. The study was carried out in Western Ireland and highlighted the behavioral

K2 And Spice
Synthetic cannabis, commonly known as K2 and spice , is a designer drug created to serve as a legal
alternative to marijuana. This recreational drug is simple to obtain in head shops and by internet order.
Marketing for spice is commonly disguised as an herbal compound including the brand name which
also serves as the classification of the synthetic cannabinoid based on structural modifications. Some
examples include CP for cycloexyphenol, AM for alkyl or N methylpiperidine replacements, JWH,
HU, and many more. Similarly to marijuana, K2 is typically smoked via water pipe, within cigarette
paper, or converted into a liquid for placement into electronic cigarettes for inhalation. 1 Synthetic
cannabinoids were created to bind the same receptors as the active compound in marijuana, Δ9
tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), cannabinoid receptors CB1 and CB2 to obtain the psychotropic effects
such as euphoria. CB1 receptors are located within the cerebral cortex, hippocampus, basal ganglia,
cerebellum, in addition to peripheral organs such as the lungs, liver, and kidney. CB2 receptors are
noted to be located on immune and hematopoietic cells, therefore desired and toxic ... Show more

Joseph McCarthy Essay
Joseph McCarthy Throughout the early 1950 s, the nation was deeply engrossed in fears of a
Communist takeover. At a time when America s fears were at their very height, Joseph McCarthy, a
Republican Senator from Wisconsin pushed America s fears to an extreme. As a ploy to get himself re
elected, and to make America hate Communism as much as he did, the Senator devised a devious
scheme. McCarthy, while giving a speech, held up a piece of paper and exclaimed, I have here a list of
57 known Communists who are currently employed by the U.S. State Department (Fried, 89). A few
days later, McCarthy raised the number of people on the list from 57 to 205. The reaction to McCarthy
s announcement was absolute panic. Until that time, the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Everyone knew about it, but no one ever talked about it. The first knowledge many American s had of
Communism came from Winston Churchill s Iron Curtain Speech (Matusow, 45). Churchill basically
said in his speech that the Soviet Union was pushing forward a global Communist takeover. And
Churchill also said that he believed, We should not let such a force loose on the planet (Matusow, 46).
That was the first time many American eyes were opened to Communism, and McCarthy made sure it
was not the last. The entire chaos that Senator McCarthy caused had become collectively known as
The Red Scare (Feuerlicht, 34). McCarthy used this entire Red Scare idea to boost his hopes for re
election. But an elected official is supposed to be a representative of the people. All McCarthy did was
abuse his power and pull the wool over the people s eyes. McCarthy did not work for the benefit of the
people. He only worked for the benefit of himself. Next, the people whose lives McCarthy destroyed
must be looked at. In the immediate aftermath of McCarthy s speech came many accusations. America
wanted the people that McCarthy said were on his list. But when asked for the list, McCarthy said he
lost it, and he could not remember which individuals were on the list. But he said he did see some key
Hollywood figures on it. That was when the focus shifted to all of Hollywood. If anyone thought that
an actor or actress seemed suspicious, they would simply start gossip about

Comparison Of Orlando By Virginia Woolf And The Second Sex
Indroduction People automatically draw a clear borderline in between when hearing the words men
and women. Simone de Beauvoir, in her most well known literature work The Second Sex, describes
them, correlatively, as two types of individuals within a species for the function of reproduction , but
the division of two sexes is not always a clear cut (29). Contradict to common sense, fixed entities
cannot determine given characteristics. This is to say, sex exceeds the boundary that we normally
perceive. This paper aim to analyze the flexibility of sexuality and the idea of androgyny revealed in
two literature works, Orlando by Virginia Woolf, and The Twyborn Affair by Patrick White, the
connections with the notion of otherness, and the reflections of reality within the two works. Orlando
Brief Introduction Set in England, 1586, the novel opens with the protagonist, Orlando, a boy of noble
birth, playing a game called attack a severed head . Orlando s noble identity enables him to meet
plenty of people, especially women, from the royal and wealthy class, including Queen Elizabeth who
shows intense affection and possessiveness toward him. Later being engaged to Euphrosyne, a woman
of high social statuses, Orlando encounters Russian Princess Sasha in the winter of the Great Frost,
and cannot help falling in love with her deeply. Yet their relationship and Orlando s fantasy end with
Sasha s betrayal. Then King

Film Analysis Of Will Leitch s Sausage Party
In recent discussions of the movie Sausage Party, a controversial issue had been brought up over the
film s comedic styles and overall theme. On one hand, some argue that the unique comedic choices the
film employs are what makes the film hilarious. From this perspective, Will Leitch, a film critic from
the New Republic, finds many of the comedic styles funny. On the other hand, others argue that the
comedy is rather juvenile and offensive. In the words of Andrew O Hehir, one of this view s main
critic, the film is a juvenile, sex obsessed cartoon. In sum, then, the issue is whether the comedic styles
of this film adds to or subtracts from this film.
My own view is that this film was overall hilarious and deeply philosophical. Though I ... Show more

Despite the fact that their creators are known for their lifestyles, it shouldn t deny the fact that the film
did a wonderful job satirizing Pixar style films. The movie in many scenes portray the characters as
artistically appealing but there lies in the joke within their relation to humans, the cute food are meant
to be ruthlessly prepared and eaten by the humans. In the scene where the food were taken out of their
packages expecting eternal joy, they were met instead with knives cutting them up and hot water
boiling them to death. The screams and horrors of the food that was smiling just right before serves as
the main punchline as the reality behind inanimate objects and humans. Contrasting with pixar style
films where they show a glorified adventure without the cruel reality these object really face. With that
being said, there is merit in Andrew s argument due to the insane amount of juvenile jokes within the
story through the usage jokes, stereotypes and a sex scene between food at the end. Despite this, I
fully believe that this movie had value because of the satire and revelation within the movie. On the
contentious topic of comedy, Leitch believes that the overuse of stereotypes eventually makes the
movie funny, Hehir feels that it s simply a way to cover up the pointlessness of the story. A defining
feature of Sausage Party would be the amount of jokes jam packed in a short amount of time. Humor
ranging from insensitive stereotypes to food puns

Questioning the Sanity of Hamlet in Shakespeare s Hamlet,...
In William Shakespeare s tragedy, Hamlet, Prince of Denmark, we, as readers, increasingly question
the sanity of the protagonist, Hamlet, as the play continues. His seemingly psychotic banter with the
other characters of the play begins to convince us that Hamlet is, indeed, insane. Hamlet, however,
states, How strange or odd soe er I bear myself, as I perchance hereafter shall think meet to put an
antic disposition on (1.5.171). He specifically tells Horatio and Marcellus that he will be acting mad,
as a front. Hamlet has an exceptional grasp on mental philosophy and the uses and effects of logic,
more so than the other characters of the play. Because of this, Hamlet appears insane to others, but in
fact remains true to his ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When Horatio and Hamlet see each other for the first time in a long while, they immediately are
excited. Hamlet, with his sometimes sinister blunt remarks, goes on to tell of how close the wedding
and funeral are to each other. Thrift, thrift, Horatio. The funeral baked meats did coldly furnish forth
the marriage tables (1.2.179). However, on the opposite end of the spectrum of Hamlet s commentary,
his conversations with Polonius are rude and often pointed. In act 2 scene 2, Hamlet makes fun of
Polonius for being old and for his long winded speeches, but does so with such intelligence and
awareness that Polonius fails to understand what Hamlet is saying at all, thereby thinking Hamlet is
simply mad. This differentiation between playful banter and slanderous remarks show that Hamlet was
incredibly mentally alert. More than just being aware of the logic in a situation, Hamlet is mentally
present enough to question even his own thought processes. Hamlet is in the position of the
professional philosopher who criticizes his thoughts while he is thinking them (Davis 631). In Hamlet
s to be or not to be soliloquy (3.1.58), he is questioning his own thinking by debating with himself
about whether or not people dream after death. It takes a sane mind to be able to equally weigh the
consequences of something as dark and intense as suicide.

The Tea Party Reform
MISSION STATEMENT: The Tea Party has a mission to reform America as a whole through
economic, social, environmental, and foreign policy changes in order to reestablish America as a
national superpower and progress it further into a better America. SOCIAL We, as Tea Party
Republicans, believe that there are two very important social dynamics that greatly need to be
reformed: care for our country s veterans and the American education system. Statistics show that
there are over 76,000 homeless veterans on any given night throughout the country, many of them
with lasting injuries, and our nation s education system does not give students the opportunity to
succeed in higher education and beyond. The brave men and women who nobly served our country ...

The federal government s control over education is too invasive. Students should not be expected to
perform as compared to a country wide standard, as each student s learning abilities are different.
Common Core testing is a poor, national standard that does not properly measure a student s
intelligence. The Tea Party believes that the Obama administration is trying to change the education
system through the back door the inventors claiming that the common core raises the education quality
when it in fact does not.Nationalized standards represent the heavy presence of the federal government
and must be put to rest. The federal funding of schools is a poor solution to solve educational
problems. One cannot simply use money as a kind of band aid, expecting higher funding to result in
better education for America s youth. The government spends an average of ten thousand dollars per
student each year, totaling $550 billion. This money is being thrown away and can be put to better use
elsewhere. Federal involvement in no way results in a better education system and must be limited. To
better our country s education system, we believe in school choice initiatives. Parents and children
should never be limited in their choice of school due to income and location. In order to provide their
child with the best education, both parents and children should feel free to choose a school that best
fits the child s educational needs. Money may be removed from federal funding to provide assistance
to struggling families that wish to send their children to private or charter schools in order to provide
their child with the right educational

Womens Studies
Women s Studies Women s studies focus on the roles, experiences, and achievements of women in
society. In result of the lack of sports media coverage, we as people, and sports fans miss out on the
achievements and experiences that these sports women live through. The goals that are achieved by
these women are something that that should be seen throughout society as something that kids, and
parents alike are able to connect to. There have been a variety of studies done to try and pin point what
methods contribute to the construction of women s sport. What scholars have been able to find is that
multiple reasons can be attributed to the lack of sports media pertained to females, such as, Low
volume of media attention, narrative focus, prominence of placement or scheduling, linguistic choices
and visual representation. (Sherry, Osbourne Nicholson, 2015). As consequence of women not being
bale to have their own media outlets dedicated to just women so sportswomen have to rely on
coverage in fractional outlets such as newspaper articles or radio stations. Whether it be sports media,
or mass media as a whole, can help shape the audience opinions, and determine what and how
information could be shared. Mass media has the power in which reflects and creates the culture in ...

Aequorea Research Papers
Aequorea victoria is a jellyfish in Puget Sound, Washington State. The small hydromedusa grows to
be 5 to 10 centimeters in diameter and live for around six months. The tiny jellyfish is most famously
known for the luminescent protein aequorin and the fluorescent molecule GFP or green fluorescent
protein (Mills 1999). These two proteins have proven to be quite useful in biochemistry and
biomedical research. More commonly used is green fluorescent protein, which has been used as a
marker for gene expression in various types of research. Green fluorescent protein was first
recognized in the early 1960s by a group of researchers studying the bioluminescent properties of the
Aequorea victoria jellyfish. They discovered that the jellyfish produces green bioluminescence from
small photoorgans located on its umbrella. Osamu Shimomura found that in order to bioluminesce
Aequorea releases calcium ions. These bind to a protein that he called aequorin, which release blue
light upon calcium binding. The blue light is absorbed by green fluorescent protein, which in turn
gives off the green light (Shimomura, O., Johnson, F. H. and Saiga, Y. 1962.) In 1987, Douglas
Prasher was the first person to recognize the potential for Green fluorescent protein to be utilized as a
tracer molecule. Due to proteins being extremely small and unseen even under electron ... Show more

With the aid of GFP, researchers have developed ways to watch processes that were previously
invisible, such as the development of nerve cells in the brain or how cancer cells spread. Tens of
thousands of different proteins reside in a living organism, controlling important chemical processes in
minute detail. If this protein machinery malfunctions, illness and disease often follow. That is why it
has been imperative for bioscience to map the role of different proteins in the body. (The Nobel Prize

  • 7. Neruda Poetry Analysis Reflective Statement Neruda Poetry Throughout the interactive oral, we discussed Neruda s beliefs and how they influenced his poetry. Moreover, we discussed how these things not only influenced his writing style, but also his life. Previously, I thought that I could not relate to Neruda because his beliefs differed very much from mine. These beliefs clashed because Neruda is from a Latin American country that is communist, and he is also a communist; while someone like me lives in the United States which is a democracy. Following this, Neruda s work was easier to relate to than I had originally thought because he talks about the Latin American struggle and gave his people a voice in poems such as United Fruit co. when he names the American companies that took advantage of Chile and other Latin American countries. In the IOQ, we as a class think communists are bad because of the way they are displayed in the United States, but the IOQ helped me understand that Neruda was more than a communist. Neruda was a person who used his platform, and took risks writing controversial poems about the struggle of his people to give them a voice, and politics to expose the corruptness of those leaders because they were not only taking advantage of their people but also giving communism a negative connotation. Adding on, Neruda was a strong advocate for communism which influenced his writing also even though he wrote about other communist leaders such as Martinez and Trujillo, his love for communism was shown when he wrote the ode to Fidel Castro. Neruda admires Castro because in his eves Fidel Castro does communism the right way unlike Martinez and Trujillo who took advantage of their countries resources and people. The way Neruda portrays Fidel Castro contradicts the way America portrays him because Castro is characterized as a person who killed anyone that got in the way of his vision of a perfect Cuba, While Neruda characterizes him as hero of communism because he did not corrupt his people by letting American companies take over Cuba and take advantage of the people of Cuba. Overall, the IOQ enhanced my appreciation and understanding of Neruda s work, some of Neruda s work was controversial, yet people could still relate ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. The Social World Sexualisation of the social world has become a very prominent social issue since the early 90 s. It has affected many influential individuals in devastating ways such as that of eating disorders, body image issues and mental illnesses. This essay will explore sociological explanations to understand and draw conclusions on why the sexualisation of culture has and continues to occur today. I will explore feminism and how it has influenced sexualisation of culture today and how pornography has influenced todays pornification problems. One sociological explanation for this is that of a multitude of factors related to that of feminism. In the mid 1970s child abuse was brought to public eye by a group of second wave feminists also known as ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This is the most significant of the factors that laid the ground for shift of sexualisation to become a recognised social issue from its former clinical term (Fredrickson 1992). However, positioning the innocence of a child to symbolise femininity began to counter benefit the movement by setting the tone for the return of traditional family values. For example, the innocent girl was remobilized to attack the legalization of child abortion, a goal that feminists had achieved years earlier. This debacle however did provide the ideal social conditions for today s sexualisation problem to be identified as in 1981 journalists were beginning to investigate the sudden sexualisation of young females. Sexualisation being used to describe mal socialization which in fact separates children from their natural essence causing premature entry in adult forms of sexual subjectivity. For example, that of play makeup for girls (Schiro 1981). Another sociological explanation that is provided for the pornification of media today is that of the evolution of porn. Pornographic content has always been in existence with our culture with prehistoric rock art dated before civilisation depicting sexual acts. This can also be seen in art work during the Victorian era such as that of the painting by Édouard Manet titled Olympia which was a nude picture of a French courtesan which ... • 10. Confederate Statues Essay The issue of whether or not the Confederate statues is in huge debate. Some think that the monuments stand for a lost cause of racism and white pride while others believe the statues should continue to stand for history and reembrace purposes. But should the federal government do anything about the statues? The simple answer for this question is up to the people that live in the town or the district of the city or town. It still comes down to these statues are property. What they stand for should not matter. They were bought and paid for by the people that lived in the town when the statue was made. Or the statue was adopted by the town and then became city property. (a)Whoever, in a circumstance described in subsection (b), willfully injures or destroys, or attempts to injure or destroy, any structure, plaque, statue, or other monument on public property commemorating the service of any person or persons in the armed forces of the United States shall be fined under this title, imprisoned not more than 10 years, or both. So it is easy to conclude that china s economic markets are sluggish and weak, for these reasons, China should adopt this monetary strategy to deal with these series of problems, and keeping the healthy and steady growth in economic markets. On the other hand, China wanted to increase the monetary (Yuan) liquidity, further, wanted Yuan to become international reserve currency. Broadly speaking, China hoped to consolidate its central position in the global economic markets. In conclusion, pulling the healthy and steady growth internally and pushing Chinese monetary (Yuan) circulate in the international economic market, externally are the two key factors drove China to devalue Yuan. In the short term, this depreciation action will bring varying degree of positive and negative impact in China and Global world. In the aspect of positive impact, Chinese aggregate demand will go up considerably in the short run. • 14. Personal Reflection Of Tort Law And Public Law So for week one, I was not sure what some of these laws have to do with my position at OU. I still do not understand what some of these laws have to do with my current position at OU. I do better understand how some of these laws could and can benefit me as a homeowner. I also understand how tort law could affect the patients that I see and assist in caring for. Tort law governs injuries or harm caused by one person to another person . This could help the patients if they get hurt from the treatments they receive. I also understand that these different laws could affect me if I were a manager of a company. I learned about Public law and how it affects us every day and how we interact every day. We read about Federal law and that it is like the constitution. Federal law mandates us as well as the government. I learned about Civil law and that it determines what the law is. I learned a lot about what exactly is state laws, which determine things like speed limit, property tax, sales tax, and city ordinances. All of these laws affect our everyday life. We must know what our state laws are, so we do not have to face the consequences of breaking them. When you break the law or laws you face the chance of receiving a citation or going to jail. This policy essentially changed the nation s social welfare system by replacing a federal entitlement program for low income families, called Aid to Families with Dependent Children (AFDC), with the Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) program. For example, unemployed workers who receive an unemployment benefit may be able continue to support their families. Disadvantages:The biggest disadvantage of welfare is its cost to the local governments that control it. Even with federal support, states feel the burden of welfare in each annual budget. One of the concerns is that welfare may discourage some recipients to seek work, since an increase in earnings would exclude them from getting free benefits. Fraud would also be a concern if someone supplies false information in order to get benefits that they do not qualify for. Alternative:As an alternative of giving welfare directly to those in need, funding programs that educate on new skills or help seeking jobs for the unemployed should be implemented. These programs, if implemented, can show drastic changes in unemployment rates over time. Restrictions on welfare, such as the time limits for getting unemployment benefits or a maximum monthly food stamp allowance, serve to limit the government s responsibility in a way that open ended welfare does not. Conclusion: The social welfare reform has improved tremendously but still has more progress to be ... However, this line blatantly mentions But rather get you down in the hole . The idea of trying to keep particular people down through the systematic means of government relates to the oppression of black Americans of the time. The attitudes in America that adopted materialism and conformity were exposed through a multitude of Dylan s lyrics and additionally the ones who endorsed these values for their own gain were also left to stand naked through Dylan s work. At times, this song almost seems saddening reminding the audience of existential dread through certain lyrics, however, overall, it can be concluded the inherited despondency in the text is a testament to the verisimilitude within his writings providing a genuine feeling that his fans adore; which is ultimately why Dylan is credited as, the spokesman of his ... Only two armies were now to attack East Prussia with the rest concentrating on defending Russia from the Austro Hungarian Army. Now the way soldiers attacked in WWI is interesting. Military actions designed to take control of enemy trenches were called attacks or offensives. The difference between attacks and offensives are an attack usually involved a division (16,000 men) while an offensive was bigger and would use at least one corps. The main objective of an attack was to break the enemy line, but an offensive was an attempt to occupy any positions that were taken during the operation. This meant that consistent fighting raised serious problems of running out of supplies. Before attacks and offensives took place, heavy artillery was used to soften up the enemy trenches. Pros And Cons For English Colonization Terifay 1 Sarah Terifay Mr. Wade United States History September 16, 2017 Motivations for English Colonization Greed was one of the leading causes to the English exploration of the Americas. During the reign of Queen Elizabeth, Spain took the lead in exploring and setting up colonies much in North America which in turn caused the English to become wary of a possible new powerhouse and threat. Along with a fear of threat was also a want to inhabit the new land and thus gain trading partners, find treasure, and expand before Spain had a chance to flood more of the vast new land. One day his white crow sees this man with his wife and tells Phoebus By a man of little reputation, one not worth you, in comparison, not even worth a gnat, by my life! for on your bed I saw him have your wife. (149 152). This angers Phoebus and leads him to kill his own wife, afterward he feels remorseful and turns his crow black as a way to punish him. Gossip spreads around controversy and can eventually lead to death, as it is in the Manciple s Tale. This type of thing happens all the time in the modern times especially in High School, people hear rumors and gossip about others, in serious cases it could end in fights or worse. Although The ... • 37. The Power Of Stereotyping The Power of Stereotypes Throughout our American society, there have been topics, or more specifically, issues, that have been implemented in our lives. Whether it be poverty, economic issues, equality, and thus forth, there is one what has always been around for centuries, but has made a bigger impact is stereotyping. This in particular topic has lead to a multitude of problems, such as social categorization, and the cause of prejudice. The stereotyping propaganda in the United States has caused more problems and attracted more attention than is truly needed. Stereotyping has been a normal occurrence since human beings have been able to do so to others, as tragic as that is. Although it has been through our history, nothing from the past can possibly compare to the amount of stereotyping going on in our world in the modern day, and how much it impacts us and others around us. Robert L. Heilbroner says it best in his article DON T LET STEREOTYPES WARP YOUR JUDGMENT (citation) Stereotypes are a kind of gossip about the world, a gossip that makes us prejudge people before we ever lay eyes on them. Hence it is not surprising that stereotypes have something to do with the dark world of prejudice (Heilbroner Pg.19 number 5). He then goes on to say that Once we have typecast the world we tend to see people in terms of our standardized pictures. He then goes on explaining about a demonstration he performed with a number of Columbia and Barnard students, showing ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Well this planet is Jupiter, it s the fifth planet from the sun and the largest by far. There are a lot of interesting things about this mysterious planet, for example, there is a great big red spot in it s atmosphere, it s a storm that s been going for over 300 years! It s bigger than earth and mars combined! Jupiter is really bright, so bright that you can see it at night without a telescope. So if you ask who discovered this planet, there really is no answer. Pretty cold considering it s only the fifth planet from the sun. Jupiter s atmosphere is mostly hydrogen and partly helium, 14% helium and 86% hydrogen. Jupiter also has 66 known moons and there still may be some that are yet to be discovered. The biggest moons are Europa, Ganymede, IO, and Callisto. Jupiter s ring system is very hard to see, it s mostly made of dust. The main ring is only 19 miles thick and about 4000 miles wide. These rings were discovered in 1979 by a spacecraft known as Voyager 1. One interesting thing about Jupiter is if it were 80 times greater, it would be a star, because it is pretty much made up of the same sources as stars. It s mostly hydrogen and helium in a liquid form. Some people think of Jupiter as a mini solar system because of all of it s orbiting moons. • 39. The Effects Of Salmon Farming On The Salmon Population Essay Introduction Fish, one of our most important sources of high quality protein, provides some 16% of the animal protein consumed by the world s population, (Food Agriculture Organization, FAO, of the United Nations, 1997). Our responses towards a growing demand for fish led to a boom in the salmon farming industry (Naylor, et al., 1998). Unfortunately, the consequences of salmon farming outweigh the value that comes with it. Even though salmon farming is steadily becoming more sustainable, salmon farming is not a suitable and environmentally sound way of producing food due to the negative issues salmon farming has caused in the environment, the salmon population, and the health of humans. Salmon farming effects to wild salmon population Scientists of various fields have found that escaped salmon from fisheries have negatively impacted the salmon population. The gradual increase of salmon farming has led to a higher rate of escaped salmon reaching local ecosystems. As farmed salmon escape through weather events, poor containment, careless handling, etc. the local ecology changes dramatically. In McGinnity s study (2003), farmed salmon have been found to breed poorly and have difficulty surviving in comparison to wild salmon. The study was carried out in Western Ireland and highlighted the behavioral differences between wild salmon against various generations of hybrid salmon. It was found that farmed salmon and hybrid salmon (various mixed farmed wild breeds) carry the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

At a time when America s fears were at their very height, Joseph McCarthy, a Republican Senator from Wisconsin pushed America s fears to an extreme. As a ploy to get himself re elected, and to make America hate Communism as much as he did, the Senator devised a devious scheme. McCarthy, while giving a speech, held up a piece of paper and exclaimed, I have here a list of 57 known Communists who are currently employed by the U.S. State Department (Fried, 89). Simone de Beauvoir, in her most well known literature work The Second Sex, describes them, correlatively, as two types of individuals within a species for the function of reproduction , but the division of two sexes is not always a clear cut (29). • 45. Film Analysis Of Will Leitch s Sausage Party In recent discussions of the movie Sausage Party, a controversial issue had been brought up over the film s comedic styles and overall theme. On one hand, some argue that the unique comedic choices the film employs are what makes the film hilarious. From this perspective, Will Leitch, a film critic from the New Republic, finds many of the comedic styles funny. On the other hand, others argue that the comedy is rather juvenile and offensive. In the words of Andrew O Hehir, one of this view s main critic, the film is a juvenile, sex obsessed cartoon. In sum, then, the issue is whether the comedic styles of this film adds to or subtracts from this film. My own view is that this film was overall hilarious and deeply philosophical. Though I ... Despite the fact that their creators are known for their lifestyles, it shouldn t deny the fact that the film did a wonderful job satirizing Pixar style films. The movie in many scenes portray the characters as artistically appealing but there lies in the joke within their relation to humans, the cute food are meant to be ruthlessly prepared and eaten by the humans. In the scene where the food were taken out of their packages expecting eternal joy, they were met instead with knives cutting them up and hot water boiling them to death. The screams and horrors of the food that was smiling just right before serves as the main punchline as the reality behind inanimate objects and humans. Contrasting with pixar style films where they show a glorified adventure without the cruel reality these object really face. With that being said, there is merit in Andrew s argument due to the insane amount of juvenile jokes within the story through the usage jokes, stereotypes and a sex scene between food at the end. Despite this, I fully believe that this movie had value because of the satire and revelation within the movie. On the contentious topic of comedy, Leitch believes that the overuse of stereotypes eventually makes the movie funny, Hehir feels that it s simply a way to cover up the pointlessness of the story. In William Shakespeare s tragedy, Hamlet, Prince of Denmark, we, as readers, increasingly question the sanity of the protagonist, Hamlet, as the play continues. His seemingly psychotic banter with the other characters of the play begins to convince us that Hamlet is, indeed, insane. Hamlet, however, states, How strange or odd soe er I bear myself, as I perchance hereafter shall think meet to put an antic disposition on (1.5.171). He specifically tells Horatio and Marcellus that he will be acting mad, as a front. Because of this, Hamlet appears insane to others, but in fact remains true to his ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... When Horatio and Hamlet see each other for the first time in a long while, they immediately are excited. Hamlet, with his sometimes sinister blunt remarks, goes on to tell of how close the wedding and funeral are to each other. Thrift, thrift, Horatio. The funeral baked meats did coldly furnish forth the marriage tables (1.2.179). However, on the opposite end of the spectrum of Hamlet s commentary, his conversations with Polonius are rude and often pointed. In act 2 scene 2, Hamlet makes fun of Polonius for being old and for his long winded speeches, but does so with such intelligence and awareness that Polonius fails to understand what Hamlet is saying at all, thereby thinking Hamlet is simply mad. This differentiation between playful banter and slanderous remarks show that Hamlet was incredibly mentally alert. More than just being aware of the logic in a situation, Hamlet is mentally present enough to question even his own thought processes. Hamlet is in the position of the professional philosopher who criticizes his thoughts while he is thinking them (Davis 631). In Hamlet s to be or not to be soliloquy (3.1.58), he is questioning his own thinking by debating with himself about whether or not people dream after death. • 49. Aequorea Research Papers Aequorea victoria is a jellyfish in Puget Sound, Washington State. The small hydromedusa grows to be 5 to 10 centimeters in diameter and live for around six months. The tiny jellyfish is most famously known for the luminescent protein aequorin and the fluorescent molecule GFP or green fluorescent protein (Mills 1999). These two proteins have proven to be quite useful in biochemistry and biomedical research. More commonly used is green fluorescent protein, which has been used as a marker for gene expression in various types of research. Green fluorescent protein was first recognized in the early 1960s by a group of researchers studying the bioluminescent properties of the Aequorea victoria jellyfish. They discovered that the jellyfish produces green bioluminescence from small photoorgans located on its umbrella. Osamu Shimomura found that in order to bioluminesce Aequorea releases calcium ions. These bind to a protein that he called aequorin, which release blue light upon calcium binding. The blue light is absorbed by green fluorescent protein, which in turn gives off the green light (Shimomura, O., Johnson, F. H. and Saiga, Y. 1962.)
