Salamanca s mother left her, this made Sal feel a dire need to see her mother again. Farah Ahmadi
want s to escape her hostile country with her mom. Bailey wants to get back to the person he
cherishes. However, Salamanca, Farah, and Bailey went after what was necessary to them. Salamanca

year old Salamanca Tree Hiddle known as Sal is traveling from Ohio to Idaho, in search of her mother,

though Sal yearned for her mom, she was afraid to see her. Gram and Gramps knew that I wanted to
see momma, but that I was afraid to, (Hiddle 5). Although Sal misses her mother, she is afraid of what
might happen. Sal was attached to her mother and kept everything she gave her. When we moved to
Euclid, one of the first things I did was to unpack the gifts my mother had given me. On the wall, I
tacked the poster of the red hen which my mother had given me for my fifth birthday, and the drawing
of the barn she had given me for my last birthday. On my desk were pictures of her and cards from
her. On the bookshelf, the wooden animals and books were presents from her, (Hiddle 50). As much as
Sal misses her she knows she has to see her mom. Sal really misses her mom and she went after her
need to see her. Farah s objective was to get out of her hostile

The Word Superiority Effect ( Wse )
Abstract
The word superiority effect (WSE), recognition of letters better in words than non words, has been
observed in normal adults, but is not observed in studies done with normal children. The supported
theory is that this is caused by the development of top down processing sometime during the children
s growth. A Reicher Wheeler task will be conducted on normal children in 5 different age groups as
well as adults. The expected results are to see an increasing WSE as the age of the children increases.
Key Words: Word Superiority Effect, Pseudoword Superiority Effect, Reicher Wheeler, Top Down
Processing, Children, Adults.
Top Down Processing Development:
Reicher Wheeler Task Results of Middle to Late Childhood Age Children
The word superiority effect (WSE) is the phenomenon that subjects are more likely to recognize a
letter accurately in a word (WINGS) than in a psuedoword, strings of letters that follow known
language rules and are pronounceable (WUNGS), a non word, strings of letters that do not follow
known language rules and are not pronounceable (WCHDS), or just in a mask (TXXXX) (Coch, 2010;
Grainger, 2003; Jordan, 1996). This is observed through The Reicher Wheeler Paradigm. In this test a
subject is shown a string of letters and asked to identify the letter in a specific location using a forced
choice task (Grainger, 2003; Hildebrandt, 1995; Jordan 1996). The effect has been observed in many
empirical studies, and has been seen in adults across

Good morning members of the high table, my colleagues in the industry and all other distinguished
guests. It is my greatest pleasure to present this paper at the Foreign Exchange seminar organized by
the Chartered Institute of Bankers of Nigeria. I hope I am able to shed light on this extremely
challenging topic.
Definition:
The foreign exchange market can be defined as the collective activity of exchanging currencies i.e.
where currencies are bought and sold. The price for the currency is known as the exchange rate.
This is one unique market that is not located anywhere but exists on electronic platforms telephones,

The Free funds market is also known as the Transfer or Convertible market: This market has been
promoted by the strict controls that exist in the official market and the transparency issue on duties. It
has been said that this market provides support for the management of the duty applied on goods
imported.
The forex for all prohibited goods brought into the country may also have this market as its source. It
is a widely held opinion that the substantial part of the supply to this market is sterilized official funds.
Most foreign exchange earners (with low corporate/individual compliance commitments) supply funds
to this market because of its higher rates i.e. premium over the official sources and confidentiality. The
premium that obtains here is primarily due to the absence of documentation.
The Cash/Travelers cheque (TC) market: This is the easiest of the markets to access. It commands the
highest premium due to the speed and guarantee of delivery offered. The cash market is the street
market mostly found around the international airports, hotels and major markets. (In Lagos Tejuosho,
Akerele, Ikeja)

As with other markets the interplay of demand and supply dictate the price.

aren t out of the ordinary in a young freshman life, also it is solely composed of armature poetry, almost
as if it is diary entries. The main character is Sophie who lives in Cambridge,Massachusetts. She is just
entering high school and going through all the typical stages such as becoming distant from her
mother and boys are always on her mind.As each poem is written it is enviable to see the maturity that

Innovation In The Sports Industry
According to our text, innovations can develop as a result of pressures and opportunities from the
environment. Environmental determinants are those that exist in the context outside of the
organization that facilitate innovation or act as a barrier to innovation. Amy Howe, Ticketmaster s
CEO, sees a common thread in all the major changes the ticketing giant is pursuing. With mobile
ticketing, social media based selling, increased in venue engagement, seat upgrades, and last minute
offers, the millennial audience is in the center of all of these innovations. The entire sports industry is
trying to find ways to more deeply reach customers now in their teens to mid thirties. The millennial
generation is a more digitally connected and socially oriented group, with the oldest portion of that
demographic just beginning to approach their peak earning years. The millennial audience represents a
quarter to a third of their overall revenue base. As baby boomers begin to become a smaller part of the
audience for sport teams, millennials will soon be the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

our modern world or is it a fear beyond your wildest imagination? At the heart of every dystopia is
essentially, the exploration of human nature and the expression of the fears that drive our societies.
There are three main fears which are involved with dystopia. They are; political dispute and rebellion,
the stifling of freedom to express individuality and the loss of human connectedness, which is central

Confirmation In The 1910 Encyclical Quam Singulari Of...
Confirmation is a sacrament that has become an enigma wrapped in a riddle that ends with an open
ended question for teens all over the world. It has become an increasingly tough Sacrament to define
and explain to those coming to the sacrament of choice. This book was chosen by most of us, not
because of the size but because we have all been called upon to talk to confirmation classes and
talking more intelligently and genuinely is what this generation is striving to receive. Since there is so
much confusion over this sacrament it is imperative we try to live up to the exhortation in paragraph
59 of Sacrosanctum Concilium. It is therefore of the highest importance that the faithful should easily
understand the sacramental signs (SC 59). Timothy Gabrielli s book is meant to give the thinking and
theology behind how this sacrament has been shaped by the twentieth century culture. This book is
meant to stir up conversation and understanding of the need for more priority from the church and its
leaders in the celebration of this sacrament. The main idea running through this book is the 1910
encyclical Quam Singulari of Pius X as the stick of dynamite that blew up the sacrament order. It
appears to me it was the light that illuminated the need for a change in the timing of first communion.
The unforeseen consequence was the upheaval and confusion around Confirmation since it was not
mentioned in the encyclical. The first chapter starts with the quote from the encyclical and

What It Means To Understand The Purpose Of Life
they are designed to do, then how can they understand the Purpose of their mate or their marriage
when that time comes. I believe God connects a husband and wife together for His Purpose. God
created all of us with Purpose in mind. He knew us before we entered this world. In the book of
Jeremiah, God tells this prophet that He knew him before he was formed in the womb and that He set
him apart and ordained him as a prophet to the nations. This is true for us today. God created us for
Purpose. We are not here on earth to just exist from day to day. Without Purpose you will live a
meaningless life and possibly connect with the wrong mate that God did not intend for you to marry.

It is the reason in which God created you. Without Purpose, you can get lost in this world and lose
your way. An individual without Purpose is merely sleepwalking through life with their eyes open.
They will begin to be consumed with the mundane details of life. The joy and meaning they have will
start to evaporate as they are confronted with life s challenges. Having a clear idea of your Purpose in
life will keep you motivated and focused on the more important things. You tend to not be so focused
on your singleness when you have direction and understanding of your Purpose. For instance, once
you know what you are supposed to do with your life, you can make important decisions about where
to go to school, what to major in, the career you want to prosper in, the best companies to work for,
the best places to live, how to spend and invest finances, the kind of books and movies you will allow
to entertain you, the kind of friends you want in your life, the kind of mentors you desire and who you
would like to spend the rest of your love life with. Also, we must remember to acknowledge God
before we make life changing decisions. We have to trust that He knows best for our lives. The Bible

The Movie Night And Boys Don t Cry
The novel Night by Elie Wiesel is a book that can be compared to many media or textual forms, such
as novel, short stories, comics, etc., but the most suitable comparative media form was a film . The
film is a visual presentation of fictional or nonfictional story that gets the audiences a sense of the
emotional trauma. The film, which complemented Night by Elie Wiesel by the similarity of themes,
but a totally different plot was the film titled, Boys Don t Cry Directed by: Kimberly Peirce. Both the
book and Film have the great essence of to begin with, Dehumanization human tend to physically,
emotionally or sexually torture another human being, followed by, the instinctual struggle to survive
how people have overcome many hurdles of life to get a point or SURVIVAL , and finally, Denial of
self when one try to deny deny or restrain their personality or they lost their own identity. Therefore, it
can be very well agreed to the fact that both the book Night, and the FILM, Boys Don t Cry share a
similar trauma which detriment the human behavior.
To begin with, Night and Boys Don t Cry share theme of dehumanization in many ways. At night,
Violence is key term or the most of the book contains this. For example, publicly threatening people to

The Representation of Women in Some Like It Hot and Alien 3
This essay will be about how women are and have been represented in films in the past and how they
are represented nowadays. I will be looking at the roles and representations of women in Some Like It
Hot and Alien 3 .
Some Like It Hot was made in 1958. Marilyn Monroe starts in the comedy as Sugar Cane who is a
very feminine musician. Alien 3 on the other hand was made 40 years after and is a sci fi horror.
Sigourney Weaver is the star of the film and plays the character Lt. Ripley. Unlike Sugar Cane, Lt.
Ripley is a very tough and manly character.
Some Like It Hot is about two musicians. They witness a massacre and try to ... Show more content on

This shows that all a woman s ambition is, is to be a wife which represents women to be very shallow
and needy. It is ironic that the man Sugar Cane describes as the one she will never fall for, is the type
of man she does fall for.
In the film, Tony Curtis plays Joe who is one of the musicians on the run. When he cross dresses, he
becomes Josephine and becomes close with Sugar. He lures her in and encourages her to confess her
dream husband. He then transforms himself into this character called Junior so he can get her. In the
end, when he confesses that he isn t Josephine or Junior, Sugar Cane doesn t get annoyed that she was
fooled by him. Instead, she runs away with him. This portrays Sugar Cane to be a very narrow minded
character that has nothing else on her mind.
There are other representations of women in Some Like It Hot . The two musicians who are on the run
have to cross dress as they have got jobs in an all female band. Tony Curtis plays Josephine and Jack
Lemmon plays Daphne. While dressed as women, the two men experience how much women are
discriminated against and used. They react to this by acting how they would expect to women to act
and experience yet even more discrimination. However, their minds don t change in the slightest and
both have Sugar Cane on their minds. They both compete to win her heart and both try getting very
close to her as women.

internet providers blocking content.
Internet
It is important to know the history of the internet. The internet is a worldwide network of computer
systems that are connected to each other by cables (Howe, 2012). The internet first started out as a
military experiment. In 1957, the Advanced Research Projects Agency (ARPA) was created by the
United States department of Defense (Computer History Museum, 2004). The project was started after
the Russians launched a satellite into space for communication reasons. The satellite was called
SPUTNIK (Computer History Museum, 2004). It was rumored that President Eisenhower got worried
and decided to get the United States to launch its own satellite. They recruited Dr. Joseph C. Licklider
of MIT, was made head of the Information Processing Techniques Office (IPTO)(Computer History
Museum, 2004). Their purpose of the project was to focus on improving the military use of computer
information.

The Problem Of Cyber Crime
Introduction
Qualified candidates are limited since, for those investigating or examining cyber crime must be
highly trained specialists, requiring detective and technical skills, including knowledge of various IT
hardware and software, and forensic tools. Nevertheless, in the modern world computer or computer
related crime makes up a great amount of percentage of all the crimes happiness which is bound to
increase. The Office for Victim Assistance ensures that victims of crimes investigated by the FBI are
presented the opportunity to receive the services and notification as required by federal law guidelines
Issues law enforcement must deal with regarding digital crime and terrorism.
The number of police agencies with advanced or computer crime unit has increased extensively over
the last several years, but the majority of these agencies serve large urban populations (Wolf, 2009).
Also, prosecutors and judges are turning out to be well versed in computer crime and the unique law
and vagaries inherent in these cases. Thus, it has been unclear how well the state and local law
enforcement agencies are equipped to handle these offenses.
For instance, a study of forensic examiners found that they are frequently overworked and experience
stress related to their work. Actually, for those who were interviewed, half of them felt that they did
not have the workforce to complete their tasks at work (Wolf, 2009). In addition, assessors recognize

In 1995, Jennie s ASA team captured the 14 and under crown. During the summer of 1996, she rooted
for the U.S. softball team as it rolled to Olympic gold in Atlanta. When the squad toured the country
weeks later, Jennie waited on a long line to get Dot Richardson s autograph. She dreamed of becoming
an Olympic champ herself, and swinging a Jennie Finch bat.
At La Mirada High School, Jennie made the varsity as a freshman, earned the first of her four letters in
the sport, and helped the Matadores to the first of four straight Suburban League titles. During her
high school career, she also lettered twice in basketball and in volleyball, but the softball diamond is
where she truly distinguished herself. Tall and lean, she was blessed with loads of natural talent and an
intense desire to win.
As a sophomore, Jennie began amassing an impressive list on honors, being chosen All Suburban
League, All CIF Division II, and Whittier Daily News All Area. The following year she was selected
league MVP. In the summer of 1997, she

The Ironic Ending In The Power Of One
The Ironic Ending in The Power of One (Essay #2) The Power of One s ending is full of irony, and
leaves readers with only their imagination and thoughts. Violence, although it may seem like the
answer to a problem at the time, only evokes a blurred judgment and lack of rationality. At the end of
the book, Peekay reunites with the Judge, and proceeds to viciously fight him, beating him nearly to
death. Peekay goes as far as to carve a Union Jack and his initials on the Judge s arm. Peekay, as
logical and rational of a character he is, doesn t strike me as the violent type. At five years old, Peekay
is convinced that Adolf Hitler will march him into the sea, is the Judge s personal punching bag, and
witnesses his pet chicken, Granpa Chook, being beat to death. As Peekay turns older, he notices
Apartheid slowly growing, and with it, the violence geared toward Africans. Geel Piet, Peekay s
Yellow Cape boxing coach and inmate of the Barberton prison, is horrifically beat to death by
Lieutenant Borman, one of the guards. Peekay knows that violence is irrational, yet at the end of the
novel, he ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
After enduring the Judge s constant tourment, Peekay s hatred simmers inside of him, and is released
in short bouts when he boxes his opponents. As Peekay states, he imagines the Judge whenever he
boxes someone, and feels more determined than ever. When Peekay is with Big Hettie, she tells him
that Hoppie could have been an amazing boxer if he had the hate in him. After Peekay defeats the
Judge, he tells the readers that his hatred has disappeared. He walks outside, and looks up at the full
moon, a symbol for death. While no one has died, Peekay s hate has. Peekay will be able to leave the
past behind, and can now work on his goal towards welterweight champion of the world, yet his most
powerful weapon will be gone. The edge that Peekay had over his competitors has been

Ender s Game Film Analysis
Can you imagine a future where one must be connected to the Internet in order to function in society?
Will there come a day when everyone and everything will be constantly monitored and tracked by the
government? These futuristic prospects are often related to scenes from science fiction films, where
many visions of the future are adapted to create an advanced society. In these films, innovations in
technology is usually the focus point, where audiences explore what life would be like and the effects
of technology in a futuristic society.
One such film that displays the use of advanced technology well is Ender s Game , directed by Gavin
Hood. This film holds up a mirror to today s society as the rising use of advanced technology is a

If the individual s information isn t securely stored, what horrendous consequences might follow, with
the information in the hands of criminals, extortionist, hackers, terrorists and the like?
However, according to one survey, approximately one fourth of all professionals between 18 to 50
years of age would like to directly connect their brains to the Internet. In near future, they are not
going to have to force most of us to get a microchip implanted on the back of our head. We will do it
eagerly, yet no one will ever even stop to consider the potential for abuse. This makes us question,
Will fiction ever become fact?
Today, the Internet has become such an integral part in our lives that it is hard to remember how we
ever survived without it. And with each passing year, the number of devices connected to the Internet
continues to grow at an exponential rate. However, we just cannot help ourselves. Our society has a
love of affair with new technology. And some of the things that are being developed right now are
beyond what most of us ever dreamed of possible. In matter of time, governments all over the world
will have the ability to continually monitor and track the activities of everyone under their power at all
times. Do we really want our future generations, or even ours, to be that

The United States And The Great Depression
To Americans, Australia may seem like a completely distant and disconnected land just because of
how far it is and because it is technically and island. However, the fact of the matter is that Australia,
just like most of the places colonized by Great Britain, is still considered a western country. That
along with the interconnectedness of a globalized economy makes it so that Australia is still affected,
both positively and negatively, by the changes of the United States and Britain. Such was the case
when the United States suffered what is now known as the great depression in 1929. The great
depression spread throughout most western countries and beyond and Australia was no exception.
Australia was hit with the depression not long after the United States and it reached its peak in 1932.
The depression hit Australia quite hard and the economic recovery was fairly slow and lasted until just
about the beginning of the Second World War. This was partly due to having a number of badly
implemented policies by a disputing government. While some say that it was the Premiers Plan that
led the country out of the depression others argue that there was no one single policy or plan
responsible but rather a combination of many. One act that had a hand in leading Australia out of the
great depression was the devaluation of the currency.
Explanation of chosen theory:
To first understand the situation that Australia was in during the great depression and all of the events
that lead to

Taslima Nasrin Lesbianism Analysis
Lesbianism in Taslima Nasrin s French Lover
Taslima Nasrin, an award winning writer, physician, secular humanist and human rights activist, is
known for her powerful writings on women oppression and unflinching criticism of religion, despite
forced exile and multiple fatwas calling for her death. In India, Bangladesh and abroad, Nasrin s
fiction, nonfiction, poetry and memoir have topped the best sellers list. Taslima Nasrin was born in
Bangladesh. She started writing when she was 13. Her writings won the hearts of people across the

With Danielle in the bed, Nila is just a passive partner. Here Nila s attitude towards this complex
human behaviour seems to reflect Taslima Nasrin s own lukewarm attitude towards the relationship.
Brought up in an atmosphere of culturally imposed restraints, where open discussions on
homosexuality are strongly inhibited, she seems to be a naive in the world of people with different
sexual and emotional needs. At the same time, she ushers in the theme as if only to shock and shake
the orthodox reader off his tabooed and limited perception of sexuality. Hence, Nila, though aroused
by Danielle s advances, seems to be uncertain about her physical desires and bodily demands. We can
also infer that Nila s decision to leave Kishanlal is faced with an immediate sense of uncertainty and
insecurity. Her prime objective to survive in a foreign land and her need of an immediate shelter make
her an object of sexual pleasure for Danielle, a homosexual: Nila was still confused, when she came
back to it, Danielle s rapacious tongue licked her for the rest of the night. Nila lay there speechless and

The Controversy Of Dog Parks
I am a proponent of dog parks. It is my belief that these parks are a wonderful addition to any
community. There are many benefits to having such parks, not just for the animals, but for us as well.
Dogs are social creatures. They need interaction with other dogs. If they do not get the neccessary
socialization, they can become hostile toward other animals, as well as unruly around people. As we
humans need to interact with other humans, these parks are a great place for us bipeds to socialize and
make friends as well. It doesnt take a lot of space to have a dog park. Most cities already have some
peice of ground that is not being used. The dogs just need a little bit of room to run around without the
restraint of a leash.

Abortion Debate
Your Opinions Ends Where My Choice Begins
In the past years, abortion has been one of the biggest topics of discussion. Many people of different
backgrounds views abortion or expulsion of a fetus to be murder. Why should anyone who has not
faced this decision voice their opinion on a situation that does not affect them? A woman is entitled to
make her own decisions regarding to her body. Abortion should be justified because it is her body, she
has to live with the outcome, and she might not be mentally or emotionally stable to care for a child.

be protected, or that a child will grow up struggling and might end up in prison just like her. Another
example could be a woman who is not mentally stable to carry a child and feels her child life would be

Mexican Immigrants And Illegal Immigrants Essay
Current Issues
Many American citizens are responsible for illegal Mexican immigrants determination to enter the
United States because numerous American citizen s revenue money, drugs, and fame as a lifestyle
which makes America the center of attraction for illegal immigrants to cross the border. It is clear that
most Mexican immigrants transport an abundant amount of money payments and drugs across the
U.S. border in return for more money so gangs and cartels can earn a recognized status through money
and respect. Citizens of the U.S. have impacted and altered the American social economic status in a
negative way. Most Mexican immigrants travel north in groups to cross the United States border to
achieve their goal; live a better life so they can support themselves and their family. Although there
are U.S. customs and border patrol agencies that have a duty to protect and secure the border from
illegal aliens entering the U.S., some still successfully cross and enter the U.S. Mexican border
illegally. In the book The Devil s Highway, Urrea explains the Rules of the Game where illegal
immigrants experience a traitorous journey depending on their guides. Their country and group leader
fail to successfully support the group and citizens of Mexico. Both sides of the border (Mexico and
America) should accept responsibility for illegal transportation of weapons. The act of illegal weapon
trafficking is a major crime for the U.S. Mexican border. Border patrol agencies and

Rhetorical Analysis Of 1984 By George Orwell
In this excerpt from 1984, by George Orwell, Winston Smith, a worker for the ministry of truth, has
been caught for committing a thought crime and is being taken to room 101 for punishment. During
the passage, Smith desperately tries to escape his punishment. Through the use of rhetorical devices
such as repetition, imagery, and details, the tone of urgency is revealed In the excerpt, Orwell uses the
rhetorical device of repetition in order to create suspense. For example, right before the rats are going
to attack, Winston says, Do it to Julia! Do it to Julia! Not me! Julia! I don t care what you do to her.
Tear her face off, strip her to the bones. Not me! Julia! Not me! The repetitive screams for help from
Winston reveals the tone as he is frantically begging for mercy. Another example of repetition is used
is when Orwell writes, To think, to think, even with a split second left to think was the only hope This
reveals the tone as it reveals Winston only has a split second to save himself from the rats, and he must
be able to think fast in order to do it. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For example, when Orwell describes, The circle of the mask was large enough now to shut out the
vision of anything else. The wire door was a couple of hand spans from his face. The rats knew what
was coming now. This creates the tone as the rats are now closing in on Winston and are preparing to
attack, which leaves him little time left before he must face his fear. In addition, another example is
when the book says Winston heard a succession of shrill cries which appeared to be occurring in the
air above his head. But he fought furiously against his panic. This displays the tone as Winston has
now begun to panic after hearing the cries of the rats above him. As he desperately fights against his
punishment, the tone of urgency is

  • 4. The Word Superiority Effect ( Wse ) Abstract The word superiority effect (WSE), recognition of letters better in words than non words, has been observed in normal adults, but is not observed in studies done with normal children. The supported theory is that this is caused by the development of top down processing sometime during the children s growth. A Reicher Wheeler task will be conducted on normal children in 5 different age groups as well as adults. The expected results are to see an increasing WSE as the age of the children increases. Key Words: Word Superiority Effect, Pseudoword Superiority Effect, Reicher Wheeler, Top Down Processing, Children, Adults. Top Down Processing Development: Reicher Wheeler Task Results of Middle to Late Childhood Age Children The word superiority effect (WSE) is the phenomenon that subjects are more likely to recognize a letter accurately in a word (WINGS) than in a psuedoword, strings of letters that follow known language rules and are pronounceable (WUNGS), a non word, strings of letters that do not follow known language rules and are not pronounceable (WCHDS), or just in a mask (TXXXX) (Coch, 2010; Grainger, 2003; Jordan, 1996). This is observed through The Reicher Wheeler Paradigm. In this test a subject is shown a string of letters and asked to identify the letter in a specific location using a forced choice task (Grainger, 2003; Hildebrandt, 1995; Jordan 1996). Confirmation is a sacrament that has become an enigma wrapped in a riddle that ends with an open ended question for teens all over the world. It has become an increasingly tough Sacrament to define and explain to those coming to the sacrament of choice. This book was chosen by most of us, not because of the size but because we have all been called upon to talk to confirmation classes and talking more intelligently and genuinely is what this generation is striving to receive. Since there is so much confusion over this sacrament it is imperative we try to live up to the exhortation in paragraph 59 of Sacrosanctum Concilium. It is therefore of the highest importance that the faithful should easily understand the sacramental signs (SC 59). Timothy Gabrielli s book is meant to give the thinking and theology behind how this sacrament has been shaped by the twentieth century culture. This book is meant to stir up conversation and understanding of the need for more priority from the church and its leaders in the celebration of this sacrament. The main idea running through this book is the 1910 encyclical Quam Singulari of Pius X as the stick of dynamite that blew up the sacrament order. It appears to me it was the light that illuminated the need for a change in the timing of first communion. The unforeseen consequence was the upheaval and confusion around Confirmation since it was not mentioned in the encyclical. The first chapter starts with the quote from the encyclical and ... When he cross dresses, he becomes Josephine and becomes close with Sugar. He lures her in and encourages her to confess her dream husband. He then transforms himself into this character called Junior so he can get her. In the end, when he confesses that he isn t Josephine or Junior, Sugar Cane doesn t get annoyed that she was fooled by him. Instead, she runs away with him. Violence, although it may seem like the answer to a problem at the time, only evokes a blurred judgment and lack of rationality. At the end of the book, Peekay reunites with the Judge, and proceeds to viciously fight him, beating him nearly to death. Peekay goes as far as to carve a Union Jack and his initials on the Judge s arm. Peekay, as logical and rational of a character he is, doesn t strike me as the violent type. At five years old, Peekay is convinced that Adolf Hitler will march him into the sea, is the Judge s personal punching bag, and witnesses his pet chicken, Granpa Chook, being beat to death. As Peekay turns older, he notices Apartheid slowly growing, and with it, the violence geared toward Africans. • 26. The United States And The Great Depression To Americans, Australia may seem like a completely distant and disconnected land just because of how far it is and because it is technically and island. However, the fact of the matter is that Australia, just like most of the places colonized by Great Britain, is still considered a western country. That along with the interconnectedness of a globalized economy makes it so that Australia is still affected, both positively and negatively, by the changes of the United States and Britain. Such was the case when the United States suffered what is now known as the great depression in 1929. The great depression spread throughout most western countries and beyond and Australia was no exception. Australia was hit with the depression not long after the United States and it reached its peak in 1932. The depression hit Australia quite hard and the economic recovery was fairly slow and lasted until just about the beginning of the Second World War. This was partly due to having a number of badly implemented policies by a disputing government. While some say that it was the Premiers Plan that led the country out of the depression others argue that there was no one single policy or plan responsible but rather a combination of many. One act that had a hand in leading Australia out of the great depression was the devaluation of the currency. There are many benefits to having such parks, not just for the animals, but for us as well. Dogs are social creatures. They need interaction with other dogs. If they do not get the neccessary socialization, they can become hostile toward other animals, as well as unruly around people. As we humans need to interact with other humans, these parks are a great place for us bipeds to socialize and make friends as well. It doesnt take a lot of space to have a dog park. Rhetorical Analysis Of 1984 By George Orwell In this excerpt from 1984, by George Orwell, Winston Smith, a worker for the ministry of truth, has been caught for committing a thought crime and is being taken to room 101 for punishment. During the passage, Smith desperately tries to escape his punishment. Through the use of rhetorical devices such as repetition, imagery, and details, the tone of urgency is revealed In the excerpt, Orwell uses the rhetorical device of repetition in order to create suspense. For example, right before the rats are going to attack, Winston says, Do it to Julia! Do it to Julia! Not me! Julia! I don t care what you do to her. Tear her face off, strip her to the bones. Not me! Julia! Not me! The repetitive screams for help from Winston reveals the tone as he is frantically begging for mercy. Another example of repetition is used is when Orwell writes, To think, to think, even with a split second left to think was the only hope This reveals the tone as it reveals Winston only has a split second to save himself from the rats, and he must be able to think fast in order to do it. ...
