Gypsies in the Czech Republic Essay
Gypsies in the Czech Republic
The Gypsies of the former Czechoslovakia have suffered ethnic marginalization dating back to their
arrival in Eastern Europe over 700 years ago. The collapse of communism in Czechoslovakia, and
other Eastern Europe countries created the necessary conditions for the ethnic mobilization of the
Gypsies and other minorities. During communism minorities presence in Eastern Europe was not
officially recognized. The transition from the socialist system to democracy gave the Gypsies of
Czechoslovakia a chance to participate in the political process, to represent their interests and end
their ethnic marginilization. Though, due to historical circumstances dating back before communism
this has been a tough task ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The gypsies led a nomadic lifestyle traveling from place to place never establishing an area of
permanent residence. They made a living by telling fortunes, begging, horse trading, and thieving.
Their nomadic life style was conducive to their activities because the Gypsies never established ties to
the community and were gone before they had arrived. As the Gypsies continued to travel they soon
began to develop a bad reputation that preceded their arrival in new areas. As the Gypsies arrived in
the Czech areas within the Holy Roman Empire they were regarded as an undesirable element in
society. Over the next few hundred years the Gypsies were persecuted and efforts were made to
destroy the Gypsy culture in the area of former Czechoslovakia. In the seventeenth century, many
Gypsies were hanged from trees along the border to discourage others from entering the country
(Crowe and Kolsti 94). Persecution of the Gypsies ended in the eighteenth century ended when the
rulers of the Hapsburg Empire tried to integrate them into the peasantry and make them a positive
aspect of society. They were forced to abandon their nomadic lifestyle and many of their horses were
shot. The Gypsies were not allowed to speak their native tongue, which is Romani, and their children
were instructed in the Christian religion. While many of these policies worked they were not regularly
enforced and the

Throughout This Semester I Have Learned A Lot From Family
Throughout this semester I have learned a lot from Family Relationships and Gender Roles. Although
I have been fortunate to have very healthy and happy relationships in my life there is one past
relationship I was a part of that was very toxic. It was with my ex boyfriend of two years. Although
the relationship ended over a year ago I feel as if the material we have discussed in class has in a way,
provided some final closure for me. There have been many times in class when I have thought Wow!
Now, I can understand why that relationship wasn t successful. I can also admit that I have learned
more about myself and the things I may have done that hindered the relationship. In order to analyze
the past relationship, I will give some ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Even looking back on the relationship I still can confidently say we communicated very well in the
early stages of the relationship. I felt comfortable communicating with him about small conflicts or
any of my wants and needs and I truly believe he felt the same way. Our communication didn t seem
to be an issue until after the first cheating incident. I think that this is because up until the cheating
incident I had no reason to suspect he was not telling me things and I never felt a secretive or flighty
vibe from him. After being cheated on I can admit that my communication skills with him started to
change. Within one day everything had changed. I had not fallen out of love but instead of a sincere
love it felt more like a constant sting to the heart whenever I thought of what he had done to me. I
found myself bouncing back in forth between emotions of extreme hurt, anger, and self pity.
Dr. Thompson talked to the class about the Four Horseman which are danger signals in a relationship.
I realized that I could identify each of these danger signals within my past relationship. After being
cheated on I think I subconsciously felt the need to make him feel the same pain that he had put me
through. I used criticism as a way to make small jabs at him and tear him down. I knew I was able to
get away with this because these small jabs paled in comparison to cheating

Different Levels Of Assessments Have Been Selected
Three different levels of assessments have been selected to assess Tama in specific language domains.
These assessments identify skills that a child has or does not in particular areas of communication.
Information from the referral suggests that the semantic and pragmatic domains require investigation
of Tama s current language skills and whether they are typical for a child of 4 years 2 months.
Assessment Tools
MacArthur Bates Communicative Developmental Inventories (CDI) words and sentences is a level
one standardised parent report. Reports with a parent who know a child well can provide a wealth of
information to supplement our direct clinical assessment (Paul, Norbury, 2012, p. 44). The report is
divided into two parts. Part I Words child use and part II Sentences and grammar . The CDI targets
current and emerging behaviours and the focus of this assessment is on the semantic domain for
vocabulary size and sentence types because of the parental concerns about expressive language. In the
report there are standard instructions about the completion of each section.
To engage the parent, suggestion for the report to be readily available when Tama uses language most
frequently. In part I the vocabulary checklist is an indication of the words that Tama produces from 22
semantic categories (Fenson et al. 2007). Typically at the age of 24 months a child s expressive
vocabulary size is 200 300 words and should be putting these words into simple sentences (Paul,

Wtg 101
For the third assignment of WRTG 101, the task was to write a research supported cause or effect
essay. I chose to write a research supported effect essay on human resource management titled The
Effects of Human Resource Management Practices on Employee Turnover. The assignment
requirements asked for the use of a certain amount of scholarly journal articles that supported the
thesis of the paper. I believe that my research essay turned out successfully because I was able to find
and identify appropriate resources that proved to effectively defend my thesis statement.
For my research assignment I chose the topic The Effects of Human Resource Management Practices

Furthermore, there was a requirement of at least three sources to come from scholarly journals. As we
learned during the course of WRTG 101, a scholarly journal article is an in depth research article
written by authors who are experts with significant knowledge in the subject area. Additionally,
universities or professional associations commonly publish scholarly journal articles ( Identify
Scholarly Journals , n.d.). The primary databases I searched were UMUC Information and Library
Services interface Business Source Complete and ScienceDirect. I also utilized the UMUC Library
OneSearch and added the ABI/INFORM Complete as an additional database resource. In addition to
the UMUC Library I also used the Google Scholar web search engine and sources found on the free
web. When deciding on whether to include sources found on the free web, I evaluated the web site s
author and accuracy ( Evaluate Web Resources , n.d.). I used sources from the free web sparingly and
instead focused on scholarly sources. After fulfilling the requirement of three scholarly sources, I
continued to primarily look for scholarly sources to establish and support my argument. I started my
search with the use of search terms such as Human Resource Management , Employee Turnover ,
High Turnover , and HRM Practices . To find more refined results, I incorporated the Boolean

The Floor Was Stained With Blood
The floor was stained with blood. A ragged, tri colored wool mat sat upon it. The boards would creak
even if a small mouse were to crawl across it. Underneath the blood stained floor boards was an old
cellar. Inside the cellar there was a small table, hundreds of bushels of apples, and an old wooden
chair. In the most internal part of the chair there was a teen girl named, Libitina. Her arms were tied
around the back of the chair, her legs tied to the bottoms of the chair. There was a gauze in her mouth,
and a laceration across her head that bleed profusely onto the desolate ground. Her eyes watered,
reflecting her feelings of pain, and fear. Light emerged from the cellar door showing the sillouette of a

rusty plyers from inside his suits pockets. He walked up to her, and grabbed her by the throat. As she
gasped for air he tied the gauze around her mouth, and ever so carefully plucked her teeth out one by

The Evolution Of Film Noir
The film noir genre first appeared in the early 1940s and has grown since their first appearance on
screen. While there are various definitions and aspects that can define this genre, it is usual depicted as
having an anti hero set in a realistic setting while trying to fight inner demons and the outer world
surrounding problems simultaneously. As any genre, it has noticeable tropes that can place it within
this spectrum. Over the years, since the first decade of film noir, society has changed, causing the
genre to adapt. The changes are not limited to being on film, but also to those within other forms of
media, such as television and literature. Rather than focusing upon one area, it is better to look on it as
a whole. Headhunters is a more ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is an idea similar to that of the butterfly effect, any action can lead up to affecting not only one

are at play in society, but hints that those connections may sometimes work on a level beyond all
human rationality. While this series may not be a Nordic series, it does have the Nordic noir idea of
including the broader audiences. The crime television series intends to include the big picture; all
individuals are apart of this life and have a connection to it. Nordic noir just so happens to be a genre
that manages to capture this within a television

Essay on Hysteria
In the beginning was Hippocrates, the Father of Medicine, who freed the emerging science from the
chains of superstition, introduced empirical observation and the bedside manner, and both identified
and named hysteria (Gilman 1993, 3). Hippocrates, lived in ancient Greece from 460 BCE to 377
BCE, the first [known] person to study hysterical actions believed (as did the proceding Greeks and
Romans) that hysteria was strictly a female problem, and in many cases almost any problem a female
had was considered hysteria (Gilman 1993, 4). This view was believed for an extensive period of time
but as Appignanesi asserts many other things that were once believed to be true are proven false later,

the words of Freud, ...her brother was as a rule the first to start an illness and used to have it very
slightly, and then she would follow suit with a severe form of it. (15). Her brother (one and a half
years older then her), who tried to stay out of family affairs, when involved would side with his
mother over Dora or her father. This fits well with Freuds oedipal theories. In fact much of Freuds
analysis of Dora uncovered repressed sexual desires.
Around the age of eight Dora began to develop neurotic symptoms. Their family doctor diagnosed the
ailments as strictly mental and not physical. This is the precursor to her hysteria, as hysteria is strictly
a mental syndrome which can affect the physical body but resides in the confines of the mind. At the
age of twelve Dora suffered severe migraine headaches and random attacks of nervous coughing.
These usually went together but as the illness developed the afflictions came separately. By the age of
16 the coughing had totally although the coughing or tussis nervosa got worse and would last up to

The story begins in 1937 on the 100th anneversary of the Ten Boom s watch shop. As dozens of
neighbors and residents of Haarlem,Holland flocked to the party, Corrie ,Betsie, Willem, Nollie, and
Casper Ten Boom rushed to prepare for the occasion. It was a happy time in Holland, but darkness
was on the horizon. The story flashes back few years to 1898 where several things happened to the
Ten Booms. Corrie Ten Boom s mother died, her brother started a home for the elderly which would
later play a part in the story, and also in 1918 World War I ended. Fast forward the story again to the
present as news starts to reach Holland of World War II. Citizens start to become concerned, but most
people said the war would never reach Holland. In fact, it did, and much sooner than anybody could
have guessed. It happened so quickly that no one could have stopped it. One night the Ten Booms
woke up to the sound of explosions. The next day, the Germans captured Holland and things started
changing subtlety . First the curfews were put into effect then the little yellow cloth stars that said jood

The Role Of Women s Video Games
When discussing the role of women in video games, it is important to establish what an acceptable
female character is. An acceptable female character has her own motivations that are not dependent on
a male character, is not overtly sexualized, and has a multi dimensional personality. A well written
female character has a storyline that is independent of other male characters and does not serve to
further male storylines. The Last of Us, developed by Naughty Dog, follows Joel as he leads Ellie, a
young girl, across a post apocalyptic world. Ellie, rather than existing as a tool to further Joel s man
pain, acts on her own inhibitions. Ellie also becomes a playable character at certain points and
Alexandra Neonakis, part of the team that created the game, states that these are some of the most
important plot points (JAMSTEW, 2015). The story itself focuses on the fact that she may contain the
cure to the infection that has riddled the United States, turning people into a zombie like state. While
some may see the relationship of Joel and Ellie as merely Joel using Ellie for his own purposes, it is
more of a mutual relationship. With the influence of Joel and other factors, Ellie goes on a journey
from a damsel in distress to a fully capable and complex character , states Neonakis (JAMSTEW,
2015). The game attempted to showcase a relationship between man and women where each needed
each other for support and to improve themselves. A women s sexuality can be an integral part

Essay on The Power of Women in Richard III
The Power of Women in Richard III
In Shakespeare s The Tragedy of King Richard the Third, the historical context of the play is
dominated by male figures. As a result, women are relegated to an inferior role. However, they
achieve verbal power through their own discourse of religion and superstition. In the opening speech
of Act 1, Scene 2, Lines 1 30 Lady Anne orients the reader to the crucial political context of the play
and the metaphysical issues contained within it (Greenblatt, 509). Lady Anne curses her foes, using
strong language to indicate her authority. She speaks in blank verse, by which she utilizes imagery to
emphasize her emotions and reinforce her pleas. Her speech clearly illustrates the distinction between

It is significant that her glowing, positive praise of the King is produced with the religious language of
holiness and honor which gives her power.
In addition to mourning the death of the King, she laments the fall of the House of Lancaster. The
dispute between the house of York and the house of Lancaster is the crucial background of the tragedy.
She asserts the right of the Lancaster dynasty rule in her statement: Th untimely fall of virtuous
Lancaster, / Thou bloodless remnant of that royal blood (1:2:6 7). Taken literally, the ashes, and the
bloodless King relate to a funeral pyre and the white skin tone of death. However the pale ashes, can
also be interpreted as the white rose which represents the King. A bloodless rose is also the white rose
of the King s shield. This division and conflict between the white rose and the red rose are outside the
sphere of Lady Anne s control. The War of the Roses is a war in the sense that it is within the male
sphere and she is unable to change the unhappy result of the dispute which results in the death of her
husband and father in law.
By addressing the ghost of the King, Lady Anne introduces the supernatural. At line 5 she turns from
the pallbearers to address the lifeless form of the King. She describes the figure of the king as key cold
(1:2:5) associating the imagery of the cold metal with the chill of death. Having

Essay The Crucible
Fear can lead to a lot of things, but unfortunately, in humans it usually leads to something bad.
Throughout history, fear has lead to some of the most violent actions by man, and some of the biggest
collapses of organized society. In early American history, the people of Salem experienced this for
themselves. Arthur Miller shows this in his book. The society of Salem that Miller creates in The
Crucible shows how fear can slowly cause rational thought to deteriorate, leading to mass hysteria and
eventually the breakdown of civilized behavior. During Act I, Miller shows how each Salem s citizens
begin to realize this fear they have, and how it is slowly starting to take over their minds. This new
idea that witchcraft exists in their ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Once the people of Salem fully realize their fear, Miller shows how they try to justify this fear, but that
they are in fact becoming more and more hysterical. They now try to find a justification for thoughts
and their fear of evil. They need some solid proof to back up these accusations that they make, and
they need to clear their own names as well. So, they arbitrarily start claiming that [they] saw...with the
Devil , and that [they] saw...with the Devil (45). These unjustified explanations for their fears just
shows how truly corrupted their minds become. They start naming their own friends, neighbors, and
even their own family in order to clear themselves and more importantly to try to prove that this
witchery is really upon them, and to prove that they are not just crazy. What it really does is show how
hysteria is setting in, and how they have actually accepted these lies as the truth. While questioning
each other on the matter, their breakdown can really be seen through their quick, almost sputtering
manner of speaking: Hale: Did you call the Devil last night? Abigail: I never called him! Parris: She
called the Devil? Abigail: I didn t see no Devil! Hale: You cannot evade me...(40)
This pace at which they speak proves how they have no real justification, only that they can accuse
someone and use that as proof. They speak in little fragments that can barely be considered

China s Economic Reforms Increase The Economic Output
China s 1970 economic reforms boosted the economic output by 11.4% on a yearly basis. The reforms
gave authority to the provinces and enabled the market oriented public enterprises. The economic
gains were so great that they accounted for about 33% of the national GDP. Prosperity seemed
imminent since the 1970s, but little did the people know that they were on the path that would place
them as the world s most polluted countries and the worlds largest greenhouse gas emitter.
China is experiencing an alarming decrease in air quality. In the first 3 months of 2015, about 90% of
the cities in China failed to meet the national air quality requirement. Beijing, surrounded by the
heavily industrialized province of Hebei, is one of the most polluted cities in China and is followed by
the cities Baoding, Xingtai, Shijiazhuang, Tangshan, Handan and Hengshui. The smog in Beijing has
forced schools to build domes with air filters over recreational sections so that students can play sports
without having to inhale the dangerous components in the smog. The recommended safe air quality
index level is 25, but that index is rarely met given that levels over 250 are reached in Beijing; young
children are not allowed to play outdoors at levels above 200, and older children are to remain indoors
when the levels reach above 250. People are getting in the habit of wearing air filter masks to decrease
their exposure to polluted air, but pollution is now threatening water quality no mask can fix

Haidt Definition Of Morality
What is Morality? Moral reasoning, human feelings should not affect moral judgement because our
feelings h individual s interests are equally important. Thus, there are no privileged people. The
minimum conception can be stated in a different way: Morality is the effort to guide one s conduct by
reason, that is, to do what there are the best reason for doing while giving equal weight to the interests
of each individual who will be affected by what one does. (Ibid: 14). May be irrational and under the
influence of prejudice, selfishness, or cultural conditioning. Indeed, morality is, first and foremost, a
matter of consulting reason. The consideration of impartiality is emphasized by almost every theory of

The most excepted definition belongs to Turiel (1983:3), he defines morality as prescriptive
judgements of justice, rights, and welfare pertaining to how people ought to relate to each other .
Haidt (2008) has recently proposed an alternative definition to morality. Rather than limiting the
content of a truly moral judgement, he focuses on the functions of moral systems. Haidt (2008:70)
defines morality as moral systems are interlocking sets of values, practices, institutions, and evolved
psychological mechanisms that work together to suppress or regulate selfishness and make social life
possible . Haidt introduces two common kinds of moral systems that is, two ways of suppressing
selfishness. Suppressing selfishness for some societies is to protect people directly by their judicial
system and by educating citizens to respect other individual s rights. Other cultures enhance moral
values by supporting groups and institutions, and by strengthening social relations through collective

Essay on Eliminating the National Endowment for the Arts
The National Endowment for the Arts is an independent agency of the federal government specifically
designed to support and enhances the art community for minority groups. The NEA was founded in
1965 and has controlled the art community ever since. This has aided in censoring works of
supposedly obscene and controversial art. The elimination of the NEA, or making it a private
organization, would free much needed public tax dollars to go to more important parts of the nations
budgets, as well as open the art communities up for the freedom to exhibit the controversial pieces of
art work the NEA deems inappropriate.

What the NEA set out to do and what it does are two different things. The NEA is first and foremost

Samuel Wasser, from the Center for Conservation Biology at the University of Washington in Seattle,
has spent the past 15 years comparing and matching DNA samples from elephant ivory and dung in an

African elephant ivory trading has been banned for twenty five years yet there is still a large market in

received the ivory from Kilindi, and the sheer of amount of ivory means that it must have been

evidence to point to where the ivory comes from. Wasser knew that they needed to find out where this
ivory was being poached, so he created contacts that would send him the dung of elephants. This gave
them DNA of different elephant populations which they could compare to the ivory, and allowed him

Irene Redfield s Characters In Passing By Nella Larsen
Irene Redfield, as a third person limited narrator in the novel Passing by Nella Larsen, perceives and
remembers characters differently. For example, when it comes to describing her old friend Clare
Kendry, Irene s perception of her changes so often that the reader feels they never truly gets to know
her. For example, on page 2 of the novel, it is stated: There had been, even in those days, nothing
sacrificial in Clare Kendry s idea of life, no allegiance beyond her own immediate desire. She was
selfish, and cold, and hard. Yet she had, too, a strange capacity of transforming warmth and passion,
verging sometimes on almost theatrical heroics. (2) This description of Clare comes from when Irene
is remembering, in flashback, what she remembered Clare to be like as a child. One thing that stands
out most about this passage is the fact that Clare is described in a negative light. All of her flaws are
highlighted, and the description is written in such a way that even when positive things are being said
about Clare, they are put through a negative light. It is strange, still, that Irene was thinking such
varying thoughts on Clare. It almost feels as though Irene never truly got to know Clare, only the
facades that she chose to wear. The differing options of how she perceived Clare are perplexing. Clare
is selfish but passionate, cold but warm. It makes the reader wonder what Clare is truly like, because
through this passage, they are only given one person s

Scientists have spent decades figuring out what is causing global warming. They have looked at the
natural cycles and events that are known to influence climate. But the amount and pattern of warming
that is been measured can t be explained by these factors alone. The only way to explain the pattern is
to include the effect of greenhouse gases (GHGs) emitted by humans. One of the first things scientists
learned is that there are several greenhouse gases responsible for warming, and humans emit them in a
variety of ways. Most come from the combustion of fossil fuels in cars, factories and electricity
production. The gas responsible for the most warming is carbon dioxide, also called CO2. Other
contributors include methane released from landfills and agriculture (especially from the digestive
systems of grazing animals), nitrous oxide from fertilizers, gases used for refrigeration and industrial
processes, and the loss of forests that would otherwise store CO2. Desertification could be described
as the spread of a desert environment into arid or semiarid regions, caused by climatic changes, human
influence, or both. (Cline 2007) Climatic factors include periods of temporary but severe drought and
long term climatic changes toward dryness. Human factors include artificial climatic alteration, as
through the removal of vegetation (which can lead to unnaturally high erosion), excessive

Sylvia Plath s Poem Mirror
Mirror
In today s day and age, it seems that some would do anything to erase a crease in their forehead, or a
crinkle on the outskirts of an eye. Because time is something that we can never get back, growing
older is an idea that many try to deny, especially in today s society. Told from a mirror s point of view,
the mirror in the poem witnesses the truth of what it means to age. Sylvia Plath s poem, Mirror, is a
poem that deals with the truths and lies in the struggle a woman goes through when grasping the
reality of aging. The poem is appealing due to the ways in which Plath successfully uses
personification, figurative language, and diction in her writing to emphasize this idea, as well how the
concept of keeping up appearances and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As the woman has aged, she no longer likes what she sees in the reflection of the mirror, and although
it is the cruel reality of life, Plath s metaphor of a mirror being a lake can be appreciated because to
look inside one s soul is of essence in deciphering who one is.
Another metaphor that can be found in the poem starts on line 12 when the mirror states, Then she
turns to those liars, the candles or the moon (12). This use of figurative language of the poem
addresses how growing old can be disguised for some time. The light that surrounds both candles and
the moon is typically either dim or completely dark. Shedding light upon a subject means to shed light
upon the truth and to see everything for what it truly is. If one chooses to stay in the dark, one objects
him or her self to be sheltered from reality, just as the elderly woman shelters herself from the reality
of aging. This metaphor can be appreciated because here again, Plath s poem relates to today s culture.
Women especially seem to fear growing old. In order to counteract any signs of aging, many women
turn to anti aging creams, or even the occasional (or not so occasional in some cases) Botox injection.
Just like the liars, the candle and the moon, these remedies only trick women into thinking they ve
defeated time itself and are still able to grasp onto their youthful appearance. Plath s comparison of
candle and moonlight to liars is genius. The

b) Why are astronomers using radio telescopes looking for far stars instead of a telescope?
First of all, what is a radio telescope? The first non visual spectral region that was used extensively for
astronomical observations was the radio frequency band. Telescopes observing at these wavelengths
are commonly called radio telescopes. Radio telescopes may be made much larger than
optical/infrared telescopes because the wavelengths of radio waves are much longer than wavelengths
of optical light. A rule of thumb is that the reflecting surface must not have irregularities larger than
about 1/5 the wavelength of light that is being focused. By that criterion a radio telescope is several

The 1000 foot reflector dish, also featured in the James Bond film, quot;Goldeneye, quot; is the largest
stationary radio telescope and most powerful radar in the world. Russell Hulse and Joseph Taylor of
Princeton University earned a Nobel Prize by using the dish in the 1970s to discover the first pulsar in
a binary system, confirming a prediction of Einstein s theory of general relativity.
In the early 1990s, Arecibo was used to detect the first planets outside the solar system. The dish
recently received a facelift in a $27 million upgrade which makes it four times more sensitive to radio
emissions from distant galaxies. The dish was used in the 1960s to chart accurately for the first time
the rate at which the planet Mercury rotates. More recently it studied ice in Mercury s polar craters,
the chemistry of Earth s upper atmosphere and rotating pulsars. The new upgrade will let astronomers
quot;hear quot; signals from much greater distances, and further back in time, than before.
d) What is VLA? How does it work?
The VLA is an interferometer; this means that it operates by multiplying the data from each pair of
telescopes together to form interference patterns. The structure of those interference patterns, and how
they change with time as the earth rotates, reflect the structure of radio sources on the sky: we can take
these patterns and use a mathematical technique called the Fourier transform to make

The influence of the media on women is not unknown, but it was especially prevalent in the 1960s.
According to David Croteau and William Hoynes, both professors of sociology, Media images of
women and men reflect and reproduce a whole set of stereotypical but changing gender roles (quoted
in Mahrdt 1) and, as society changes and opinions are altered, television shows adapt. However, the
television show Mad Men is unique because it does not show life today, but the life of the 1960s. It
shows what life was like for the women who lived during a time when the feminine mystique
controlled society.

bored, and lonely. In episode two of season one, Ladies Room, Betty is shown losing control of her

housewives. Betty is told that losing control of her hands is not a physical abnormality, but a
psychological one. During this time, Freud and many others had noticed this problem. Unfortunately,
according to Dr. Stephanie Newman, a psychoanalyst from New York, most of them believed this
disorder was merely repressed sexual impulses (Newman 94). While this theory was partly right,
Betty s problem was an issue of emotions not being expressed: it had nothing to do with sex and
having more sex would not cure her. Her problem was a conversion symptom, so named because the
disorder arises when unacceptable emotions are unconsciously turned into something physical
(Newman 96). This was not caused by suppressed sexual emotions; but from having to force down the

The Evolution of the Scarlet Letter
The Evolution of the Scarlet Letter At what point in time can one truly forgive themselves for a sin

for a sin? Throughout The Scarlet Letter by Nathaniel Hawthorne, Hester Prynne learns answers to
such questions after it is learned she in an adulteress. Hester s scarlet letter serves as a reminder to
herself and her peers of the sins she has committed, and there is a true evolution from the beginning to
the end of the story of the views of not only the letter but the person wearing it from Hester herself,
the villagers, Pearl, and the author. Throughout the story, the reader can clearly identify the contrast of

making sure she has her scarlet letter. Although it is mentioned the narrator in the custom house is not
Nathaniel Hawthorne, they are both very similar. The narrator is carefully constructed as being similar
to Hester in the sense that they are both isolated by people whom they have no connection to. The
author feels this way working in the custom house surrounded by old men. I am a citizen of
somewhere else (31). Hester, of course, is isolated from the rest of the community because of her sin.
Even though the narrator feels he will be criticized for attempting to make a writing career, he makes a
fictional account of Hester s story anyways. Writing for him is similar to needle work for Hester, and
it is a further comparison of two similar characters. The author evolves Hester into himself, and it is
made clear that is his intention. In conclusion, the evolution of Hester, the villagers, Pearl, and the
author of the scarlet letter that Hester wears is generally seen as acceptance of her and her sin. The
author develops Hester into a woman who gradually becomes comfortable with the idea of herself and
her sin. Although Pearl never clearly understands it, she recognizes that her mother will forever be a
sinner, but is still her mother. The villagers at first heckle Hester of her scarlet letter, but begin to see
her true colors. In short, The

Charles W. Chesnutt s The Passing Of Grandison
All throughout history humans have always tried to gain power over each other. In America it was the
white people who believed all others were inferior and should be treated as such, thus enslaved these
people. Many slave owners felt that it was their duty to take care of these slaves because they were not
mature enough to take care of themselves. The Passing of Grandison By Charles W. Chesnutt
Grandison is a slave owned by the Owens family. The plantation owner thinks Grandison is dumb and
incapable of being independent from the plantation. Thus Colonel Owens thinks Grandison is a good
choice to send north with Dick. Chesnutt uses limited third person point of view, dramatic irony, and

also mentions to Dick to keep your eyes and ears open to find out what the abolitionists are saying and
doing. They re becoming altogether too active for our comfort, and too many ungrateful niggers are
running away. The irony here is that Dick is trying to get whichever slave he takes with him to run
away. His father is telling him to find out what the abolitionists are doing to abolish slavery and bring
the information back to the south. The Colonel is trying to keep his property safe from the north but
has no idea that letting Dick bring a slave up north is exactly the opposite of keeping them safe.
Chesnutt lets the reader in on Dick s secret leaving them to believe that they know all the secrets of
the story but the reader has no idea about grandison. Dick wants to take Tom up north knowing that he
will be easy to free. The Colonel also knows that Tom would escape in a heartbeat up north and

Progression of Black Masculinity
Nearly every decade consists of at least one film that helps to define the development of a generation.
The film is able to paint a clear enough picture that not only captures the cultural aspects of the
generation but also portrays the social implications and complexities associated with the environment
the culture thrives in. In regards to the genre of hip hop and rap and its relationship with black life and
urban imagery for example, Cooley High may be representative for a generation that was in their 20 s
during the debut of the movie. The next generation of the 1980 s would most likely be able to
understand the interworking s of the movie Krush Groove whereas the generation of the 1990 s would
more than likely link themselves to such films as New Jack City and Juice. These films depicting the
rise of black boys to black men were in rarity during their debut and because of the popular actors and
underlining themes in them have had a significant long lasting impact on people of color as well as
young white Americans that have been somewhat interested in the everyday struggle of their inner city
counterparts. Through a careful analysis of films such as Krush Groove depicting black life in the
1980 s to the urban imagery displayed in the 1990 s movies of Juice and New Jack City the
progression of the portrayal of young black males can be observed as well as the difference in
viewpoints on black humanity, and stereotypes. Minorities have overcome significant hurdles in the

Mandatory Vaccination Paper
Mandatory vaccination continues to be a contentious subject in the United States, even though
extensive evidence proves inoculation prevents certain diseases. According to A. Plotkin L. Plotkin
(2011), the evolution of the first vaccine commenced in the 1700 s when a physician named Edwards
Jenner discovered that cowpox protected individuals from one of the deadliest diseases termed
smallpox. The precise virus Jenner used is unclear; however, it was espoused in the extermination of
smallpox worldwide. The researchers further explained, the unearthing of the subsequent vaccine
known as chicken cholera occurred approximately 80 years later by Louise Pasteur. Ever since,
copious vaccines such as rabies, yellow fever, varicella, pneumococcal, mumps and recently HPV
have been introduced.
The Center for Disease Control and Prevention (2014), reports illnesses such as polio, measles,
rubella, tetanus and pertussis that were previously rampant are now obviated by the influx of vaccines
and has protected the lives of millions of citizens. Moreover, neonates who have a diminished immune

This aspect of the film, although heart wrenching, shows that Charlie does have some recollection of
the events leading up to the plane crash. A person suffering from posttraumatic stress disorder has the
tendency to not think about those events and even supresses them (Lilienfeld et al., 2010). Despite this
microscopic flaw, Reign Over Me is most likely the greatest movie representation of a person
suffering from PTSD. In a chi squared test at the University of Liverpool of individuals with chronic
posttraumatic stress disorder, findings revealed that men are likely to increase alcohol consumption as
a result of a traumatic event (Z. I. Kekelidze et. el, 2009) .In the movie we also witness Charlie
purchasing alcohol and drinking the entire bottle before attempting to have himself shot by police
officers.
Charlie s battle with chronic PTSD is a difficult journey as he drowns himself in music in order to
prevent himself from thinking about the things which he fears most. Director Mike Binder incredibly
enables the viewer to enter the mind of a person suffering from PTSD and successfully stays true to
the not only the symptoms of the disorder, but also its effects of loved ones and the individual
themself.

Cherokee Basket Weaving
Cherokee basket weaving is one of the most popular and recognizable crafts produced by the
Cherokee artists. These baskets are known for the beautiful designs and expert technique that has been
passed down through generations of crafters. In precolonial and colonial times, predominate material
that was used in basket weaving was rivercane. This was mainly due to the fact that rivercane was
widely available near the south eastern rivers. Also, rivercane was generally easy to harvest and work
with. However, rivercane can hurt the crafter if the individual is not careful due to the fact that the
material can be incredible sharp. Other materials that were used to make baskets include hickory,
white oak, and honeysuckle.
The Cherokee were most famous for their double weaved baskets that were made from rivercane.
Double weave baskets are a double walled basket that have a pattern on the inside and outside of the
basket. This design allowed the baskets to be extremely durable and in some cases water proof. This
form of basket making almost died of but was revitalized by an artist named Lottie Queen Stamper.

Gene Expression And Its Engineering
Introduction Transformation is the process of allowing a cell to be able to accept a gene into itself and
allow the gene to become part of the cell s whole, thus changing its form and expressing the gene s
function. This process was first discovered by the British bacteriologist Frederick Griffith, who was
able to transform Streptococcus pneumoniae into a different strain of Strep. in 1928 (1928). This
discovery was pivotal in the way we understand gene expression and its engineering. An example of
genetic engineering using transformation that applies to everyday life is the synthesizing of human
insulin, which is a peptide hormone that helps to regulate the amount of sugar that runs through the
bloodstream. In the early 1900s, insulin from other animals was used to treat diabetes, but human
insulin is now able to be easily produced in bulk through genetic engineering, and has largely replaced
animal insulin for the treatment of diabetes. Insulin is made from cells in the pancreas, and the
extraction of insulin from animals used to require taking it directly from the animal s pancreas glands.
It was not until 1977 that synthetic human insulin was genetically engineered by Arthur Riggs and
Keiichi Itakura, and was achieved by the process of transformation using Escherichia coli as a host
(1977), which allowed for the easy reproduction of human insulin. Using this method, the production
of human insulin became large scale, faster, cheaper, and more accessible. A weakened

essential assets, electricity, running water, or flushable toilets (LISGIS citation). Margibi County
residents also experience substantial barriers to accessing healthcare. The Liberia Institute of Statistics
and Geo Information Services report that between 56 69% of Margibi residents live more than 40

Both the Epi Info VHF and DHIS 2 databases were cleaned and prepared by epidemiology department
staff at the WHO Country Office, Liberia to produce a historical dataset of unduplicated cases.
Consistent with the WHO s Ebola Situation Reports, three categories of EVD incidence were included
in this study suspected, probable, and confirmed cases. Suspected cases included any person that had
experienced symptoms consistent with EVD (e.g., high fever, vomiting) or had come in contact with
persons that had suffered symptoms of EVD or a dead or sick animal. Probable cases are defined as
those suspected cases evaluated by a physician. Confirmed cases are those suspected cases that were
confirmed positive for EVD antigen through laboratory testing. Including suspected cases, rather than
those persons examined by a physician or experienced laboratory confirmation for EVD diagnosis,

Characteristics Of A Tragic Hero
According to Aristotle, a Tragic Hero is described as a literary character who makes a judgment error
that inevitably leads to his/her destruction. Aristotle once said that A man doesn t become a hero until
he can see the root of his downfall. An Aristotelian tragic hero must possess specific characteristics,
five of which are below:
1)Flaw or error of judgment (hamartia) Note the role of justice and revenge in the judgments.
2) A reversal of fortune (peripeteia) brought about because of the hero s error in judgment.
3) The discovery or recognition that the reversal was brought about by the hero s actions (anagnorisis)
4) Excessive Pride (hubris)
5) The character s fate must be greater than deserved (BSID 2017)
To start with, the tragic ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He has total control over himself and shows braveness in addition to dignity. Just as Othello is a
virtuous man there are a few flaws in him, these flaws are what make him up as a tragic hero. Othello
is regularly blinded using trust and cannot see someone for who they genuinely are. He trusts the
people around him even if they mean to afflict harm to him. Through this, it may be seen why Othello
is one of the most known tragic heroes of Shakespeare s many plays. In the beginning, Othello is a
good man with an amazing personality which draws people closer to him. However, he is known by
the senators as one of the best leaders; he is also valued by everyone around him. To put it differently,
they hear what Othello has to say.
Here comes Barbantio and the valiant Moor.
(Act 1, scene 3, 47) (Othello) Besides the greatness s there likewise are a few blemishes. With Othello
being a military pioneer for the greater part of his life, believing another military companion would be
normal and along these lines, Othello was not motivated not to put stock in Iago. So, one might say
that Othello has disastrous shortcomings, one being excessively dependable. Commonly Othello does
not see the shrewd demonstrations of Iago. He is accustomed to managing military individuals on the
war zone, where you put your life in the hands of others. In this circumstance trust is essential. Othello
claims that Iago is a man of respect

The Effect Of Bacterial Growth On Space Flight
Early studies have documented that bacterial growth increases in space flight; yet, the inherent
mechanisms beholden to this growth have not been discovered. As the bacteria devour nutrients, they
discharge corollary that can affect growth and impact ultimate cell population denseness. It is
acknowledged that these metabolic processes charge a reduction in density of the fluid zone and the
solute gradient about every cell. Along this planet, this fluctuation in density leads to an elasticity
transfer of the expelled by products. The fluid motion enclosing the cells can be changed through the
restricting of the movement to just diffusion because of the lack of activity and deposit in the low
gravity space flight surroundings. From this biophysical representation, it was speculated that an
increase in speed impacts the lag phase period and the final cell s denseness of suspended cultures of
bacteria in a deviating way. This is because of the modifications obtained in the extra cellular fluid
constitution. Contained in the paper are experiments of different accelerations that frequently
sustained this hypothesis, culmination in foreseeable growth kinetics. Other experiments show plumes
of fluid that are visible to the naked eye emerging from metabolizing bacterial cultures. If related fluid
kinetics were discovered to come about on a microscopic level, it might inform us of how acceleration
impacts bacterium growth kinetics.

The Effects Of Climate Change On The Alaskan Environment...
Every country in the world has been affected by climate change.
Climate change is a change in the statistical properties of the climate system that persists for several
decades or longer (Montgomery, 2015). Climate change (or global warming) can be caused by a
natural progress such as sun s radiations and volcanoes, or it can be caused by human s actions such as
land use, deforestation, and pollution. (Hardy, 2003).This phenomenon not only affects the
environment, but it also affects human lives. Alaska is the largest state in the United States. It includes
lands on both sides of the Arctic Circle. Sixteen national wildlife refuges are home to a great variety of
flora and fauna. In the past 60 years. The Alaska s environment changed drastically; the climate is
warming up as twice as much in comparison to all the other states. This essay will discuss firstly the
climate change in the Alaskan environment. Then it will highlight the changes in the ocean and costs,
the effects that global warming is having on Alaska s natives and the melting permafrost. It will then
finally address who is responsible for this effects and some measures that can be taken.
The first effect that global warming is having on Alaska regards coasts and oceans. In the northern
summer, the sea ice is decreasing faster than previously recorded and it is foreseen to melt before mid
century (Chapin, F.S 2014). Solid ice is disappearing as there are no longer massive icebergs during
fall and winter,

Objectives Of The Operations Of Housing And Facilities For...
document. Under LogCap III and Operation Iraqi Freedom (OIF), KBR built and maintained the
majority of U.S. military bases in Iraq. In terms of the value chain disaggregation, the focus of this
paper will be on the maintenance of housing and facilities for U.S. military personnel in the Iraqi
theater of operation.
Value Chain Considerations
In terms of LogCap III, to achieve sustainable competitive advantage, KBR must disaggregate the
value chain and focus on activities affecting cost, price, or both in relation to the services offered by
competitive rivals (Porte, 1985). Wherever possible, KBR should focus on differentiation by
providing value through a unique mix of services. For example, economies of scale, achieved through

Inbound logistics Property and materials are the lifeline for the continuing operations of base camps.
Tangible assets are considered to be property. Tangible property may include vehicles, tools,
generators, sanitation, sleeping containers, coolers for food and many other items. Materials include
consumables that are used to sustain day to day activities to complete the mission. Property and
material must be accounted for throughout the materials life cycle. Consequently, from the time a
purchase order is generated through consumption of materials, or disposition for property, each items
must be tracked through the approved system of record.
2. Operations Operations is the nerve center for the base camp. The site manager oversees the
operations of the base camp. The site manager coordinates KBR s services with the Mayors Cell. In
terms of O M, all service requests are initiated through the Service Desk controlled by operations.
3. Outbound logistics In a war zone, outbound operations are an extremely important aspect of the
mission. The timely delivery of property and materials, from outside vendors, may be challenging. As
a result, when the need arises, base camps and forward operating bases (FOB s) borrow materials from
one another. Consequently, outbound logistics is fundamentally important to the success of the
mission. Outbound logistic activities are initiated through a

Gypsies in the Czech Republic Essay Gypsies in the Czech Republic The Gypsies of the former Czechoslovakia have suffered ethnic marginalization dating back to their arrival in Eastern Europe over 700 years ago. The collapse of communism in Czechoslovakia, and other Eastern Europe countries created the necessary conditions for the ethnic mobilization of the Gypsies and other minorities. During communism minorities presence in Eastern Europe was not officially recognized. The transition from the socialist system to democracy gave the Gypsies of Czechoslovakia a chance to participate in the political process, to represent their interests and end their ethnic marginilization. The gypsies led a nomadic lifestyle traveling from place to place never establishing an area of permanent residence. They made a living by telling fortunes, begging, horse trading, and thieving. Their nomadic life style was conducive to their activities because the Gypsies never established ties to the community and were gone before they had arrived. As the Gypsies continued to travel they soon began to develop a bad reputation that preceded their arrival in new areas. As the Gypsies arrived in the Czech areas within the Holy Roman Empire they were regarded as an undesirable element in society. Over the next few hundred years the Gypsies were persecuted and efforts were made to destroy the Gypsy culture in the area of former Czechoslovakia. In the seventeenth century, many Gypsies were hanged from trees along the border to discourage others from entering the country (Crowe and Kolsti 94). Persecution of the Gypsies ended in the eighteenth century ended when the rulers of the Hapsburg Empire tried to integrate them into the peasantry and make them a positive aspect of society. They were forced to abandon their nomadic lifestyle and many of their horses were shot. The Gypsies were not allowed to speak their native tongue, which is Romani, and their children were instructed in the Christian religion. Although I have been fortunate to have very healthy and happy relationships in my life there is one past relationship I was a part of that was very toxic. It was with my ex boyfriend of two years. Although the relationship ended over a year ago I feel as if the material we have discussed in class has in a way, provided some final closure for me. There have been many times in class when I have thought Wow! Now, I can understand why that relationship wasn t successful. I felt comfortable communicating with him about small conflicts or any of my wants and needs and I truly believe he felt the same way. Our communication didn t seem to be an issue until after the first cheating incident. I think that this is because up until the cheating incident I had no reason to suspect he was not telling me things and I never felt a secretive or flighty vibe from him. After being cheated on I can admit that my communication skills with him started to change. Within one day everything had changed. I had not fallen out of love but instead of a sincere love it felt more like a constant sting to the heart whenever I thought of what he had done to me. I found myself bouncing back in forth between emotions of extreme hurt, anger, and self pity. Dr. Thompson talked to the class about the Four Horseman which are danger signals in a relationship. I realized that I could identify each of these danger signals within my past relationship. After being cheated on I think I subconsciously felt the need to make him feel the same pain that he had put me through. I used criticism as a way to make small jabs at him and tear him down. An acceptable female character has her own motivations that are not dependent on a male character, is not overtly sexualized, and has a multi dimensional personality. A well written female character has a storyline that is independent of other male characters and does not serve to further male storylines. The Last of Us, developed by Naughty Dog, follows Joel as he leads Ellie, a young girl, across a post apocalyptic world. Ellie, rather than existing as a tool to further Joel s man pain, acts on her own inhibitions. Ellie also becomes a playable character at certain points and Alexandra Neonakis, part of the team that created the game, states that these are some of the most important plot points (JAMSTEW, 2015). The story itself focuses on the fact that she may contain the cure to the infection that has riddled the United States, turning people into a zombie like state. While some may see the relationship of Joel and Ellie as merely Joel using Ellie for his own purposes, it is more of a mutual relationship. With the influence of Joel and other factors, Ellie goes on a journey from a damsel in distress to a fully capable and complex character , states Neonakis (JAMSTEW, 2015). She asserts the right of the Lancaster dynasty rule in her statement: Th untimely fall of virtuous Lancaster, / Thou bloodless remnant of that royal blood (1:2:6 7). So, they arbitrarily start claiming that [they] saw...with the Devil , and that [they] saw...with the Devil (45). They have looked at the natural cycles and events that are known to influence climate. But the amount and pattern of warming that is been measured can t be explained by these factors alone. The only way to explain the pattern is to include the effect of greenhouse gases (GHGs) emitted by humans. One of the first things scientists learned is that there are several greenhouse gases responsible for warming, and humans emit them in a variety of ways. Most come from the combustion of fossil fuels in cars, factories and electricity production. The gas responsible for the most warming is carbon dioxide, also called CO2. Other contributors include methane released from landfills and agriculture (especially from the digestive systems of grazing animals), nitrous oxide from fertilizers, gases used for refrigeration and industrial processes, and the loss of forests that would otherwise store CO2. Desertification could be described as the spread of a desert environment into arid or semiarid regions, caused by climatic changes, human influence, or both. (Cline 2007) Climatic factors include periods of temporary but severe drought and long term climatic changes toward dryness. Human factors include artificial climatic alteration, as through the removal of vegetation (which can lead to unnaturally high erosion), excessive ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 22. Sylvia Plath s Poem Mirror Mirror In today s day and age, it seems that some would do anything to erase a crease in their forehead, or a crinkle on the outskirts of an eye. Because time is something that we can never get back, growing older is an idea that many try to deny, especially in today s society. Told from a mirror s point of view, the mirror in the poem witnesses the truth of what it means to age. Sylvia Plath s poem, Mirror, is a poem that deals with the truths and lies in the struggle a woman goes through when grasping the reality of aging. The poem is appealing due to the ways in which Plath successfully uses personification, figurative language, and diction in her writing to emphasize this idea, as well how the concept of keeping up appearances and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As the woman has aged, she no longer likes what she sees in the reflection of the mirror, and although it is the cruel reality of life, Plath s metaphor of a mirror being a lake can be appreciated because to look inside one s soul is of essence in deciphering who one is. Another metaphor that can be found in the poem starts on line 12 when the mirror states, Then she turns to those liars, the candles or the moon (12). This use of figurative language of the poem addresses how growing old can be disguised for some time. The light that surrounds both candles and the moon is typically either dim or completely dark. Shedding light upon a subject means to shed light upon the truth and to see everything for what it truly is. If one chooses to stay in the dark, one objects him or her self to be sheltered from reality, just as the elderly woman shelters herself from the reality of aging. This metaphor can be appreciated because here again, Plath s poem relates to today s culture. Women especially seem to fear growing old. In order to counteract any signs of aging, many women turn to anti aging creams, or even the occasional (or not so occasional in some cases) Botox injection. Just like the liars, the candle and the moon, these remedies only trick women into thinking they ve defeated time itself and are still able to grasp onto their youthful appearance. Plath s comparison of candle and moonlight to liars is genius. The ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 24. Contact Essay b) Why are astronomers using radio telescopes looking for far stars instead of a telescope? First of all, what is a radio telescope? The first non visual spectral region that was used extensively for astronomical observations was the radio frequency band. Telescopes observing at these wavelengths are commonly called radio telescopes. Radio telescopes may be made much larger than optical/infrared telescopes because the wavelengths of radio waves are much longer than wavelengths of optical light. A rule of thumb is that the reflecting surface must not have irregularities larger than about 1/5 the wavelength of light that is being focused. The VLA is an interferometer; this means that it operates by multiplying the data from each pair of telescopes together to form interference patterns. In regards to the genre of hip hop and rap and its relationship with black life and urban imagery for example, Cooley High may be representative for a generation that was in their 20 s during the debut of the movie. These baskets are known for the beautiful designs and expert technique that has been passed down through generations of crafters. This was mainly due to the fact that rivercane was widely available near the south eastern rivers. Also, rivercane was generally easy to harvest and work with. Gene Expression And Its Engineering Introduction Transformation is the process of allowing a cell to be able to accept a gene into itself and allow the gene to become part of the cell s whole, thus changing its form and expressing the gene s function. This process was first discovered by the British bacteriologist Frederick Griffith, who was able to transform Streptococcus pneumoniae into a different strain of Strep. in 1928 (1928). This discovery was pivotal in the way we understand gene expression and its engineering. An example of genetic engineering using transformation that applies to everyday life is the synthesizing of human insulin, which is a peptide hormone that helps to regulate the amount of sugar that runs through the bloodstream. In the early 1900s, insulin from other animals was used to treat diabetes, but human insulin is now able to be easily produced in bulk through genetic engineering, and has largely replaced animal insulin for the treatment of diabetes. Insulin is made from cells in the pancreas, and the extraction of insulin from animals used to require taking it directly from the animal s pancreas glands. It was not until 1977 that synthetic human insulin was genetically engineered by Arthur Riggs and Keiichi Itakura, and was achieved by the process of transformation using Escherichia coli as a host (1977), which allowed for the easy reproduction of human insulin. Using this method, the production of human insulin became large scale, faster, cheaper, and more accessible. A weakened ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 40. Characteristics Of A Tragic Hero According to Aristotle, a Tragic Hero is described as a literary character who makes a judgment error that inevitably leads to his/her destruction. Aristotle once said that A man doesn t become a hero until he can see the root of his downfall. An Aristotelian tragic hero must possess specific characteristics, five of which are below: 1)Flaw or error of judgment (hamartia) Note the role of justice and revenge in the judgments. 2) A reversal of fortune (peripeteia) brought about because of the hero s error in judgment. 3) The discovery or recognition that the reversal was brought about by the hero s actions (anagnorisis) 4) Excessive Pride (hubris) 5) The character s fate must be greater than deserved (BSID 2017) To start with, the tragic ... Just as Othello is a virtuous man there are a few flaws in him, these flaws are what make him up as a tragic hero. Othello is regularly blinded using trust and cannot see someone for who they genuinely are. He trusts the people around him even if they mean to afflict harm to him. Through this, it may be seen why Othello is one of the most known tragic heroes of Shakespeare s many plays. In the beginning, Othello is a good man with an amazing personality which draws people closer to him. However, he is known by the senators as one of the best leaders; he is also valued by everyone around him. To put it differently, they hear what Othello has to say. Here comes Barbantio and the valiant Moor. (Act 1, scene 3, 47) (Othello) Besides the greatness s there likewise are a few blemishes. With Othello being a military pioneer for the greater part of his life, believing another military companion would be normal and along these lines, Othello was not motivated not to put stock in Iago. So, one might say that Othello has disastrous shortcomings, one being excessively dependable. Commonly Othello does not see the shrewd demonstrations of Iago. He is accustomed to managing military individuals on the war zone, where you put your life in the hands of others. In this circumstance trust is essential. Othello claims that Iago is a man of respect ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 41. The Effect Of Bacterial Growth On Space Flight Early studies have documented that bacterial growth increases in space flight; yet, the inherent mechanisms beholden to this growth have not been discovered. As the bacteria devour nutrients, they discharge corollary that can affect growth and impact ultimate cell population denseness. It is acknowledged that these metabolic processes charge a reduction in density of the fluid zone and the solute gradient about every cell. Along this planet, this fluctuation in density leads to an elasticity transfer of the expelled by products. The fluid motion enclosing the cells can be changed through the restricting of the movement to just diffusion because of the lack of activity and deposit in the low gravity space flight surroundings. From this biophysical representation, it was speculated that an increase in speed impacts the lag phase period and the final cell s denseness of suspended cultures of bacteria in a deviating way. This is because of the modifications obtained in the extra cellular fluid constitution. Contained in the paper are experiments of different accelerations that frequently sustained this hypothesis, culmination in foreseeable growth kinetics. Other experiments show plumes of fluid that are visible to the naked eye emerging from metabolizing bacterial cultures. If related fluid kinetics were discovered to come about on a microscopic level, it might inform us of how acceleration impacts bacterium growth kinetics. Introduction Most discoveries point to ... • 42. The Effects Of Climate Change On The Alaskan Environment... Every country in the world has been affected by climate change. Climate change is a change in the statistical properties of the climate system that persists for several decades or longer (Montgomery, 2015). Climate change (or global warming) can be caused by a natural progress such as sun s radiations and volcanoes, or it can be caused by human s actions such as land use, deforestation, and pollution. (Hardy, 2003).This phenomenon not only affects the environment, but it also affects human lives. Alaska is the largest state in the United States. It includes lands on both sides of the Arctic Circle. Sixteen national wildlife refuges are home to a great variety of flora and fauna. In the past 60 years. The Alaska s environment changed drastically; the climate is warming up as twice as much in comparison to all the other states. This essay will discuss firstly the climate change in the Alaskan environment. Then it will highlight the changes in the ocean and costs, the effects that global warming is having on Alaska s natives and the melting permafrost. It will then finally address who is responsible for this effects and some measures that can be taken. The first effect that global warming is having on Alaska regards coasts and oceans. In the northern summer, the sea ice is decreasing faster than previously recorded and it is foreseen to melt before mid century (Chapin, F.S 2014). Solid ice is disappearing as there are no longer massive icebergs during fall and winter, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 43. Objectives Of The Operations Of Housing And Facilities For... document. Under LogCap III and Operation Iraqi Freedom (OIF), KBR built and maintained the majority of U.S. military bases in Iraq. In terms of the value chain disaggregation, the focus of this paper will be on the maintenance of housing and facilities for U.S. military personnel in the Iraqi theater of operation. Value Chain Considerations In terms of LogCap III, to achieve sustainable competitive advantage, KBR must disaggregate the value chain and focus on activities affecting cost, price, or both in relation to the services offered by competitive rivals (Porte, 1985). Wherever possible, KBR should focus on differentiation by providing value through a unique mix of services. For example, economies of scale, achieved through the value ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Inbound logistics Property and materials are the lifeline for the continuing operations of base camps. Tangible assets are considered to be property. Tangible property may include vehicles, tools, generators, sanitation, sleeping containers, coolers for food and many other items. Materials include consumables that are used to sustain day to day activities to complete the mission. Property and material must be accounted for throughout the materials life cycle. Consequently, from the time a purchase order is generated through consumption of materials, or disposition for property, each items must be tracked through the approved system of record. 2. Operations Operations is the nerve center for the base camp. The site manager oversees the operations of the base camp. The site manager coordinates KBR s services with the Mayors Cell. In terms of O M, all service requests are initiated through the Service Desk controlled by operations. 3. Outbound logistics In a war zone, outbound operations are an extremely important aspect of the mission. The timely delivery of property and materials, from outside vendors, may be challenging. As a result, when the need arises, base camps and forward operating bases (FOB s) borrow materials from one another. Consequently, outbound logistics is fundamentally important to the success of the mission. Outbound logistic activities are initiated through a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
