Learning Disposition And Analysis
This first assignment will be explaining my learning disposition and personal experiences of
education and learning prior to starting at Sheffield Hallam University. This will focus on my
different experiences and memories of education before starting my course, I will also relate any
experiences to suitable theories and theorists. One the first entries in my journals and my earliest
memories of educationwas reflecting what my learningstyle. I have always found it easier to learn
from listening and taking my time, rather than jumping into work. At nursery, many of the children
would want to go ahead and try out all the activities hands on, I on the other hand would always be
sat waiting for the teacher to explain more and to receive instructions.... Show more content on

Reflecting back at this I never wanted to do nursing, I feel I only made this decision because it
is what my mother wanted to do this when she was younger. This could relate to Bandura s
theory of social learning, this because even though Bandura believed classical and operate
condition contributed towards social learning, he also believed two other factors effected this,
which are imitation and identification (Learning theories in childhood, Gray,C). This relates to
me and my college degree as I identified myself with my Mother and imitated her dreams and
behaviours. Going into college I went in with a fixed mind set, (Dweck, 1998). This is because I
did not really want to do nursing in the future, felt like I couldn t learn anything, believed I was
smart enough to do it and was also facing some mental problems at the time. At this period of
education I did not attend many of my lessons and I had no motivation to learn. This strongly
related to Carr and Claxton (1995). Claxon (1995) believed you had to be ready, willing, and
able to learn and at that time in my life, I was not. According to Perkins et al (1995) Dispositions
are based in the belief systems, values and attitudes as equally as it is in your cognitive structure
. As well as this disposition is linked with the idea of our possible selves and at the time I was
not mentally in the right place, meaning this effected what my idea of myself actually was. To
link this in with my college experience, at the time my idea of my self was that I was worthless
therefore I believed I was worthless and did not believe I could make it through college. This could
have also related back to my experiences in primary school ( mentioned in the essay earlier) due to
not feeling good enough. This could have contributed to me later dropping out. This could be
because I had already have formed these beliefs and values prior to coming to

Median Housing Price Of The Great Lake Megaregion
Table 1 provides descriptive statistics of independent and dependent variables used in our analysis.
Median housing price of the Great Lake Megaregion is $164,447 and its monthly growth rate is
0.31% during 2013 June through 2016 May. The average value of planning time index is 3.01 and
its monthly growth rate is 1.34%. Interest rateand mortgage rate are 0.79% and 4.03%, respectively.
The averageconstruction price index obtained from Census is 112.46. The average unemployment
rate is 5.64. The number of household and the number of firm at the zip code level is 8,581 and
726, respectively. And their vacant rates are 3.32% and 9.58%. The average percentages of park
and lake are about 2%.
4.2. Estimation results of Housing Price Model
Table 2 presents estimation results of our empirical model represented by equation (5). The first
column shows estimation results only including housing prices and traffic congestion index without
other control variables. The result presents that traffic congestion growth is negatively associated
with growth in median housing prices. Such results are slightly changed when including control
variables or fixed effects terms, but almost consistent and robust as shown in the model (2) through
model (6). Since different locations and different time influence growth in housing prices (see
Figure 5, again), model (6) that include locational and time fixed effects is the best fit to explain the
relationship between congestion growth and housing price

The Evolution of Modern Humans
While time travel still remains elusive to us, scientists have been able to discover things about
our past as a species that were practically inconceivable over 150 years ago when Charles Darwin
released his book entitled The Origin of Species. They have especially uncovered many pieces
to our still incomplete puzzle over the past 20 years so that we now have a nearly complete idea
of how our species Homo sapiens came to be. This story of our history includes dozens of species
and hundreds of fossils and bones, yet fairly few complete or even partial skeletons. Hominids
have gone through many changes to get from one of our earliest species Ardipithecus ramidus to
Homo sapiens which scientists have been able to discover... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

The lower part, where it meets the ankle, is fairly wide and thick so it acted as a shock absorber
whilst walking. Members of the Australopithecus anamensis species also had long forearms and
wrist bone features which suggest tree climbing. They were thickly built with long narrow jaws.
Their side rows of teeth were in parallel lines and were heavily enameled which entails that they
ate hard, abrasive foods such as nuts, but researchers also believe that they also ate fruits. These
hominids were possibly the size of modern female chimpanzees and there is evidence of sexual
dimorphism. (Leakey et al, 1995; White et al, 2006) Discovered in 1974, Australopithecus
afarensis is one of the most famous early hominids and they are the direct descendants of
Australopithecus anamensis. Australopithecus afarensis as a species was not named until 1978,
after many fossil discoveries of the same type were found at sites in Hadar, Ethiopia and Laetoli,
Tanzania. Some of the fossils categorized as a part of this species were found as early as in the
1930 s. They were around for more than 900,000 years which makes them the longest lived
species and there are over 300 sets of remains of Australopithecus afarensis. One of the most
famous hominid skeletons is 3.2 million year old Lucy (AL 288 1), discovered by Donald
Johanson and Maurice Taieb in Hadar, Ethiopia in 1974. She was nicknamed the night she was

How Energy And The United State s Global Influence On The...
The Unites States and The People s Republic of China have been ever growing superpowers on
the world scene since the last century. Their economies, military and social policies have been
models and adapted by other nations on Earth and their present day influences in these same criteria
seem to have no end. The driving force behind China s industrialization and the United State s
global influence are one in the same; Energy. Both these nations have been fortunate enough
through their geological locations to be able to find and harvest different sources of energy to
propel their governments, economies, militaries, ect and with the help of harvesting the ingenuity
of their respective populations to drive the discovery of more efficient and productive technologies
in aspects of economics, home life and energy. This essay will go on to illustrate what energy
sources either nations use and why they use them, what sources of energy they are trying to further
develop and what sources of energy they import as well as export. Finally, We will touch upon the
energy relationship between the US and China and compare this relationship through one or more
international relations theories.

democracies in the world. With a population of approximately 325 million, the United State is both
the second largest producer and consumer of overall energy (China being the first). According to the

My Speech On The Emergency Medicine Class
In the summer of 2014, I thought I had life completely planned out. I was enrolled at Rowan
Cabarrus Community College while still attending Mount Pleasant High School. I had just
started taking my Emergency Medicine class and had already completed two thirds of my fire
class. I volunteered at Northeast Cabarrus Fire Department and was so close to becoming an
interior firefighter, I could taste it. I never slowed down enough to think about God s plan for me.
I seemed to only care about creating my own plan and following through with it. My intentions
were to graduate high school and be completely done with my education. Graduating meant I was
free to spend my time chasing my dreams, but that changed on my way to my Emergency Medicine

I was overcome with an intense pain shooting from my neck to the area between my shoulders.
My breathing slowed and shortly was accompanied by my low moans as I tried to squeeze little
bits of air into my lungs. I could feel myself being consumed by the feeling of fire inside my
chest. I passed out for what felt like a long night s sleep, to only be awakened by the sound of the
ambulance and the frosty fingers holding my C spine. My precisely drawn out plan was no
longer in my control; I had relinquished all rights to my plan when I agreed to join the game leap
frog. That fun game of leap frog left me with broken dreams and in excruciating pain.
At some point on that rainy day, I found myself consumed in complete and utter denial. It must
have been after the doctors notified my parents that I had broken four thoracic vertebra; my T 1
though T 4. The doctors told me my life would never be the same because my back problems
would limit my future plans. They informed me the pain I felt would go down some, but never
completely subside. A couple doctors wanted to place me on a pain medicine regimen for the
rest of my life. I remember the icy puddles from my tears that accumulated on my pillow, the
smell of the doctor s cologne that slowly suffocated my already struggling breaths, and the sound
of my mother weeping at my bedside. I took the diagnosis like a bullet; it pierced my heart and
exited my body carrying my

Gang Crime And Crime
The phrase gang crime does not portray an image of injured children, cries of civilians, tear gas
consuming the air, and chaos fled around the eyes of the common man. As developing nations
become more independent, one could argue that their crime rate would be decreasing as well.
However, gang related violence has increased as developing countries improve economically,
socially, and financially. As a result, their law enforcement system and corruption has increased to
win the race of monetary influence. Gang related fixed through the acquisition of monetary
influence alone. To minimize the threat of organized gang crimeamong developing nations,
governmental agencies must increase law enforcement and reduce internal corruption.

The limitation in sustainable law enforcement reduces the likelihood of the complete security of
citizens in developing countries. In addition, internal corruption within governments propel
organized gang crime. The corruption of Venezuelan governments allows an increasingly corrupt
system. In this government, one earns rans by loyalty to a political party ( Global World Report
2013). As gangs earn merits to a particular party, their crimes are accountable for the money they
contribute to a certain party. Another example of corruption within a government is the South
African government. The use of gangs is often implied to eliminate political opposition. The money
that the governments lend gangs increases the amount of crime they can commit. Often policeman

Flags Of Our Fathers And Visit To St. Elizabeth s
In times upon which a society is distant from its core values, when members are challenged by
their internal values and their loyalty to their nation; there lies a memory of what once was. It is
often that memory permits members any society that were wronged or denied their rights, that
provides the hope necessary to prevail through and act during difficult times. Patriotism is
believing in one s nation. The belief is developed from the greatness that was perceived by its
citizens and that creates those precious memories that are referred to in dark times to lead people
to act when their own nation may be against them. Anne Frank once wrote in her diary, I think that
it will all come right, that this cruelty too will end and that peace and tranquility will return again

Farmers do not need to hire more labour to spray pesticides, remove weeds since crops are resistant
to insects and herbicides are used to kill off weed without harming the cop thus the farmers save

Similarities Between Frankenstein And An Essay On Man
There are several identical themes in both Alexander Pope s An Essay on Man, and Mary Shelley
s Frankenstein. In An Essay on Man, Pope describes many complexities of mankind, which range
from man s identity, to his relationship with God. In Frankenstein, Shelley depicts the story of
Victor Frankenstein, a scientist who creates a living being, and he later suffers negative
consequences as a result of his actions. Alexander Pope s An Essay on Man, contains similar
themes to Mary Shelley s Frankensteinbecause he raises questions about self identification, the
influence of scientific knowledge on an individual, and how the desire to act like God can be

For example, In Pope s poem, while describing several complexities of humanity, he exclaims: Go
wondrous creature! Mount where science guides (19). This quote highlights the ability that
scientific knowledge has to inspire an individual. The phrase Go wondrous creature connotes a
glorifying identity for those who choose to accept and participate in the inspirational world of
science. However, if the knowledge is pursued to an extreme, it can begin to have disastrous.
results. In Mary Shelley s novel, Frankenstein s work exhibits the theme of the negative influence
that scientific knowledge can have, because while reflecting on the process of constructing the
Creature, Frankenstein states: I seemed to have lost all soul or sensation but for this one pursuit
(36). As his obsession with his pursuit advances, he describes: Every night I was oppressed by a
slow fever, and I became nervous to a most painful degree (38). These quotes function primarily to
demonstrate that Frankenstein chooses to embrace scientific knowledge, but he becomes so
consumed by it, that the desire for pivotal scientific development possesses him to a most painful
degree. As a result, Frankenstein becomes a slave to his work, and it has an extremely harmful
impact on his mental and physical well being. Frankenstein s obsession with scientific knowledge

The Education Of The United States Essay
The Education Revolution
Currently, the United States is ranked 14th in its educational standard, 17th in educational
performance and 24th in literacy (Mark). Compared to the rest of the world, we are behind
countries like Poland, China, Finland and New Zealand. For a country that prides itself on its
successful western society, what is stopping us from having an education system to match the
standards we have put on the rest of our amenities. However, a solution is closer than it seems.
According to Rasmussen College, there are 6.7 million students currently enrolled in online
courses, therefore with an increasing number of students attending these classes, it is not a question
on whether or not these classes will become normal, but when and how these classes will
revolutionize our education system (Bird). Online courses offer students the ability to create an
education based around their schedule, and allow students who may struggle or may not be able to
attend a traditional school environment the chance to have an equal education. Not only can the
students benefit from an online education environment, but both schools and professors can gain
from an online system. Moreover, such courses can help create a global education system that
allows anyone to have the same access to an education anywhere in the world as long as they have a
connection to the internet.
Online classes allow students to create a flexible schedule for students with jobs and busy home
lives and can

Leadership Styles And Types Of Leadership Style Essay
Introduction
To become an effective leader one should have desire and willpower. Good leaders do not have
inborn qualities and skills. Good leaders are constantly working and concentrating on to enhance
their ability; they are not resting on what they already achieved in the past. Leadership is a
procedure by which a man impacts others to fulfill a target and coordinates the association in a way
that makes it more strong and rational.
There are different types of leadership style and all the types have their own strategies and

John Harwood Hick (1922 2012)
BIBLIOGRAPHY
John Harwood Hick was born on 20th January, 1922 to Aileen Hick and Mark Hick in
Scarborough, England. Hick s ancestors were owners of successful shipping firm. However, his
grandfather abandoned the shipping business to become an attorney. John Hick was arguably
among the most influential and important philosophers of religion of the 2nd half of the 20th
century. It is worth noting that as a British Philosophical thinker in the Anglo analytic tradition,
John Hick did ground breaking work in philosophical theology, religious pluralism and religious
epistemology (Hick and Sharma 89).
As a young student of law, John Hick went through a strong religious experience which led him to
accept the evangelical Christianity and to alter the direction of his career to philosophy and
theology. At the beginning of his career, john Hick argued that the Christian faith is mainly based
on religious experience rather than propositional evidence. Therefore, he defended Christianity faith
against criticisms by evidentialist, who were by then dominant logical positivists ( Professor John
Hick Telegraph ). The most influential works by John Hick include: Evil and the Godof Love; A
Christian Theology of Religions; An Interpretation of Religion; and many others

An Overview Of Financial Management And The Financial...
An Overview of Financial Management and the Financial Environment
Matthew Ellsworth
Abstract
Financial Management usually involves the process of planning, organizing and controlling the
financial activities of any enterprise to achieve the goals and objectives in financial terms of that
enterprise. The main objectives of financial management would be to create wealth for the business
in terms of movable cash for the organization and to ensure that the target return in investments is
meet at all times. The three key elements in financial management in simple terms may be put as a
three step continuous process involving financial planning, financial control and financial decision
making. In this post, we will discuss the types of company ownerships, the objectives and the
derivatives. Overview of Financial Management and Financial Environment Financial Management
is concerned with achieving the overall goals of the business firm by acquiring, financing and
controlling the assets of the firm. Financial Management can be described as an integrated decision
making process as it has a virtual impact on the achievement of the overall organizational goal.
There are three key elements in financial management namely financial planning, financial control
and financial decision making. In financial planning the management needs to ensure that enough
funding is available to meet the requirements of that business. Financial control is the most
important activity which

Leonardo Da Vinci s Accomplishments Essay
For the most part of future generations, there is a part of our people, where just being just an
inventor, or just an artist. Two of which are Leonardo Da Vinci, and Thomas Alva Edison, they
both excelled the impossible by becoming great inventors, but the question is, who is greater?
These two were both highly skilled inventors, but da Vinci s achievements make him the greatest
out of the two.
Leonardo Da Vinci was born April 15, 1452, he was known as a Renaissance man , giving the idea
of managing multiple jobs, like, painting, sculpting, architect, creating inventions, military engineer
man, and a draftsman. He was able to doing task the required his mind, and the capability to create

new generation of ideas can change the wrong in the world, or even just make it a little better.
Da Vinci was a man who opened our minds to a whole new world, a new frontier of impossibles
to possibles by simply being curious, and inventive. Giving the same opportunities to future
inventors that feel the way he felt all those years ago. Pushing us to new heights, even after he is

The Internet And The World Wide Web
The Internet is a unique place where all different nationalities, social groups and age groups with
different values and characteristics, meet and interact. All spheres of media are being represented
on the world wide web. Some of the relations are being mirrored from those present in real life, but
the internetwas never the same. As with real life, not everyone on the internet is equal and there are
numerous differences between the users of this medium of mass communication. Even though the
inequalities are still present on the internet, they are subtler than those existing within the offline
world. Almost everyone has access, but how we benefit from it depends on our status, intelligence
and willingness to explore. Audience members are becoming important and active producers, being
given the tools, which bring them closer to professionals. Every internet user has equal access to
an online education, but an intellectually privileged group will make a more productive use of it.
This can be named as equalityof opportunity. The argument cannot be defined into one side.
Average people can keep in touch and interact with celebrities, which would never happen outside
the internet. They obey the same rules and laws imposed by the services they use, yet are not
equal, as famous people are more powerful, being in charge of a huge fan base. Another important
issue is a marginalization of societies excluded from the internet outreach. The inequalities and
equalities should also be

The Party For Freedom And The Socialist Party
By definition, Nationalism is an ideology in which a group s recognition and espouse of their
identity, as a nation, is expressed based on a common origin, in addition to the desire to spread
their global influence. Through analysis of the Netherlands Party for Freedom (PVV) and the
Netherlands Socialist Party (Socialistische Partij) alongside the World Values Survey, I will
assess the values of each party and compare their supporters through various variables in order to
further examine Nationalism. In comparison of the Party for Freedom and the Socialist Party, I
will focus on the country s answer toward the question: Which party would you vote for if there
were a national election tomorrow, as well as analyze the various demographics involved. The
Netherlandsis run based upon a parliamentary representative democracy with both parties analyzed
containing the same number of seats within the parliament. Thus, both parties, despite having
different worldviews, carry similarities throughout the nationalistic views of the Dutch people. In
order to inaugurate the analysis, we must begin by determining the nationalistic views within the
Netherlands and understand the basis behind each party. The Party for freedom is a right wing
nationalist party, while the Socialist Party is a left wing social democratic party. Within the current
politics of the Netherlands, both parties control an equal number of seats with 15 being in the

Evaluation Of A New Business Manager
If you re a new business owner and have just begun accepting credit cards for payments, you don t
want to be caught unaware of the regulations involved in handling sensitive personal data. The
consequences of improper procedures could be penalties, fees and even termination of your card
processing account. Read on to learn about PCI regulations and what you need to do to remain
compliant.
What is PCI?
PCI stands for Payment Card Industry. When referring to the subject of PCI compliance, you are
actually talking about a set of industry standards known as PCI DSS, where the DSS stands for Data
Security Standards. These standards were designed to ensure that businesses handle credit card
information in a secure manner.
The first version of data security standards was released in December 2004 to combat the
increasing rate at which cardholder information was being stolen online. The PCI DSS was
established in 2006 with the formation of the Payment Card Industry Security Standards Council
(PCI SSC). The council focuses on improving security of credit card transactions as technology and
market trends change the security concerns in the industry.
The PCI SSC was created by the major credit card brands, including MasterCard, Visa, American
Express and Discover; however, the council is not responsible for PCI compliance. It s the payment
brands that actually enforce the standards.
Who needs to comply with PCI security standards?

Dermal Protection in Mammalian Species Essay
Dermal Protection in Mammalian Species
Typically, most animals of the class mammalia typically have relatively less durable outer dermal
layers than other classes of animal, such as reptiles. It can be seen particularly in humans (Homo
sapiens), where their skin is vulnerable to many external hazards. However, some mammals have
developed independently to obtain much more durable dermal protection. Highlighted here
specifically, will be the specimens within the families of Manidae and Dasypodidae. Respectively
these families represent the animals, the pangolin and armadillo. Although of very different classes,
orders, etc. these specific mammals have developed the ability to protect themselves with their own

(Vickaryous and Hall 2006) The osteoderms are not fully formed as soon as the armadillo is
born, but must grow as the armadillo itself grows. Osteoblasts secrete osteoid, which is what
creates the tiled, boney structures of the osteoderms. (Vickaryous and Hall 2006) While initially
grown in an even thickness, as the armadillo grows into adulthood, the dorsal surface of the
osteoderms become much thicker than the ventral surface. This can be further seen in the fact
that the dorsal surface will contain many of its osteoblasts, unlike the ventral surface which will
have very few. (Vickaryous and Hall 2006) It is important to note, that unlike animals, such as
turtles, the carapace is not directly connected the spine or ribs of the armadillo. (Vickaryous and
Hall 2006) The mechanism in which armadillos use their shell to protect themselves is also very
different than how a turtle would use its shell. The tiles of the osteoderms are connected to each
other via collagen fibers known as Sharpeys fibers (Fig. 2). These fibers add tensile strength to
the shell, allowing for the shell to be more durable, while also not requiring it to be entirely rigid.
(Chen et al. 2011) This, alongside the fact that keratinized scales cover the osteoderms creates a
shell that is hard, yet also flexible. (Rhee et al. 2011) These boney tiles also have the advantage of

David Hume s Definition Of Miracle
David Hume states that, a miracle is the violation of the laws of nature (Of Miracles Part 1,
Hume p 3). This is a good definition insofar as the laws of nature are assumed to be those
experiences understood and defined by man. Building upon this definition, Hume s thesis stated
simply is: 1)If, A miracle is the violation of the laws of nature (Of Miracles Part 1, Hume p 3)
2)And, The laws of nature are derived from men s common and consistent experience of an
event i.e. when X occurs, Y is caused to happen. 3)Then, there must, therefore, be uniform
experience against every miraculous event (Of Miracles Part 1, Hume p 3) 4)Therefore,
miracles cannot exist and by example, the resurrection miracle is false. Hume s conclusion is
false due to assertion #3 being flawed because it applies the commonly accepted measure for the
laws of nature against a miracle which contradicts the definition of a miracle in #1. Further, Hume
does not consider that uniform experience can be defined as a group of people experiencing a
single occurrence of a miraculous event. Therefore, David Hume s thesis, that it is never rational to

Should The Titanic Be Preserved
If you found the Titanic would you take it out of the ocean and disrupt the peace or would you
leave it. I beileve that the Titanic shouldn t be preserved. Many people s remains have been
found and I wouldn t mess with it. The danger of messing with the ship on the way up could be
detrimental. The cost would be great if the ship were to have broken in half. Many people died
on April 12,1912. There were shoes from all the passengers in the water. The sand is full of dead

Introduction
Pol Pot was a young man who led the Khmer Rouge. Being a leader of the Khmer Rouge, Pol Pot
led a rebellion alongside the regime of Cambodia. Due this, he was, therefore, elected leader of
Cambodia in the year 1975. Pol Pot s leadership was cruel, harsh and brutal. For instance, he
confidently commanded civilians to move out of towns and cities into the country side. When they
discarded his command, he forced them to move. This led to the creation of several camps and
farms in the country side. However, the increased movement of people into the country side led to
the accumulation of starvation and death of around half a million civilians (Weltig, ... Show more

He, therefore, continued with his cruelty and brutality.
Pol Pot relied on coercive power in leadership. He used threats to influence his people to do what
he desired. He forced his people to submit to his demands and command. For instance, pot used the
threat tactic to force his people to move from the cities into the country side. During the war
between his revolutionary army and the Vietnamese representatives over the disputed border and
islands in Thailand, he forced his people into the army. He used threats to influence them. Similarly,
Pot also used the threat tactic to influence young teenagers to remain his followers (Ganeri, 2010).
Dictator Pol Pot held goals of attaining independence in Cambodia. He was also determined in
making both social and economic reforms in Cambodia. However, he did not achieve his goals.
This was due to his fall in the year 1978. The effects of his poor leadership were the major causes
of his fall. Based on the behaviorism approach, a leader should portray good characters that are
beneficial to his people. Good behavior is rewarded while bad behavior is punished (Chandler,
1999). Therefore, his behavioral consequences were punished because he failed in his leadership.
Due to his harsh and brutal leadership, revolts were made against him. As a result, he lost power
before achieving his goals. Therefore, good leadership traits and behavior would lead pol to

In this media assignment I shall be analyzing and comparing the similarities and differences of
two famous directors film versions of Great Expectations . The two directors are David Lean and
Alfonso Cuaron. David Lean s version was more popular and well known than Alfonso Cuaron s
because Lean was the first director to actually direct Great Expectations . This made it more
difficult for Alfonso Cuaron because he had to bring the film up to date by making the film more
modern and there have also been 10 other films based on the novel Great Expectations . David
Lean had directed his version of Great ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is revealing to the audience that the film fits into the horror genre and is giving the audience
clues about what the film will include, such as an ominous atmosphere and scenes of violence and
gore. Lean has created this mood and theme so that the audience would want to know what the film
actually contains, whether it is horror or drama.
David Lean and Alfonso Cuaron are using the different techniques to keep the audience interested in
the movie. The soundtrack of both versions is different because Alfonso Cuaron has played music
throughout his opening frames. He has introduced sound effects such as waves that give the
audience a pleasant sound to their ears; this same effect is employed with seagulls. The music that
is actually played has a joyful and happy mood, which encourages the audience to think that the film
is a non violent film. But when Magwitch appears from underneath the water in the tenth frame and
grabs Pip, at this point the music changes from joyful and happy to dramatic and shocking. Cuaron
deliberately did this to shock and alarm the audience from a happy and cheerful atmosphere to an
explicit and up tempo atmosphere, this technique also keeps you interested in the film.
On the other hand David Lean has only played music in his opening

12 Angry Men , the movie that is revolved around the trial of the murder case, has different
characters from different backgrounds as the jurors. In this report, the communication styles of
those people are going to be discussed. They are examined based on their behaviours, languages or
gestures.

As it is pointed out by juror #8 in the end, his perception regarding father and son is dictated by the
experience in the intense relationship between him and his son and it hinders him to see the
defendant and the victim from the objective perspective. The fact that the victim is the defendant s
father strengthens his perception preventing him from listening to others. It even brings him a fear
as if it meant that he is beaten by his own son. Also, his short temper sometimes causes him to
throw harsh comments at recipients before thinking over and it puts him in the serious position in
the communication which is irreversible. He might think he can correct others opinions that are
opposed to him by showing his anger as he might do at work as a boss of more than 30 employees.
Nonetheless, those habits of his keep him from the healthy communication and he fails to convince
the other jurors losing his allies.
Juror #4
Juror #4 is very aware of how communication works and how he can be more persuasive as a
sender. He can handle the tones, body language and time in his speech in the most effective way
to convey his message. His well tailored suits are credited to elevate his credibility too. As well as
making use of his speech skill, He eliminates slangs and slurs that could fail the communication he
is involved and carefully selects the words to say not to offend the audience. It is observed when he

This is the part of the process where creatine makes itself known. Current studies show that
creatine supplementation can increase the amount of creatine in muscles, which in turn, speeds
up the ATP refueling process (Murphy, 2000). This enhances performance by producing more
energy for brief, high intensity exercise such as sprinting, and allowing for more strenuous
workouts (Gutfeld, 1997). All of these factors are crucial to athletes who are searching for their
legal magic bullet . Creatine was first discovered by a French scientist in 1832 (Bamberger,
1998). This scientist discovered a naturally occurring organic compound that could be produced
by the kidneys, liver, and pancreas. The compound was named creatine , the Greek word for flesh
(Bamberger, 1998). It has been found that most people consume 1 gram per day, along with
naturally producing 1 gram (Bamberger, 1998). In 1981, the potential medical benefits of creatine
were published in the New England Journal of Medicine in, seven years later, two Swedish doctors,
Paul Greenhaff, and Eric Hultman, recorded performance enhancing effects of creatine in athletic
subjects, and their results were published in the journal Clinical Science in 1992 (Bamberger,

Disillusionment In The Great Gatsby Analysis
The 1920 s were a time of peace after World War I. However, the harrowing events of the war
caused people to become disillusioned with the American Dream. F. Scott Fitzgerald demonstrates
this in his novel The Great Gatsby. Different elements of the book represent different ways in
which the American Dream declined. Tom and Myrtle s affair shows how people lacked morality,
Daisy s marriage with Tom demonstrates how people gave up happiness for money, Wilson s anger
at the billboard of T.J. Eckleberg represents how the American people felt that God was punishing
them, and Nick s final words to the reader exemplify that repetition of the past is inevitable.

The end of World War I was, in actuality, just a predecessor for World War II. With brief peace, the
feeling of uneasiness loomed. In Lost Generation in the 1920s: 1919 1927, Carlisle states, Thus
in Europe, World War I clearly gave birth to a set of discontents that would coalesce into World
War II, (Carlisle). This feeling resided in the minds of the people. Fitzgerald expressed this in the
last words of the novel, narrated by Nick Carraway, So we beat on, boats against the current, borne
back ceaselessly into the past, (180). The current is the inevitability of the past recurring. Fitzgerald
ends the novel this way to exhibit that all the events of the war are bound to repeat, and to cement
the idea that humanity will never morally advance. This belief of hopelessness is the last element in
the multi faceted predicament of the American people s disillusionment. F. Scott Fitzgeraldused
different components to represent the post war disenchantment with the American Dream. Myrtle s
immoral actions exemplify the lack of respect for ethics, Daisy s marriage shows the preference of
the American People of wealth over happiness, Wilson s anger reflects the feeling of punishment
from God, and the final words of the book display the inevitability of the past repeating. Given the

The Priceline Group Is An American Based Company

1. Summary Thesis:

It is higher than the current stock price, $1631.62 per share. Therefore, I suggest to buy the PCLN

2. Background:
Agency revenues are about 70% of Priceline s total revenues. They are derived from travel related
transactions from where Priceline is not the merchant of record and where the prices are
determined by third parties. This means that Priceline plays a role of an agency, connects customers
and third parties and then gets the commissions. The revenues from this part include travel,
commissions, GDS reservation booking fees related to certain travel services, travel insurance fees
and customer processing fees.
As the main platform of Priceline, booking.com contributes a lot of revenues to its parent
company. It claims that the website lists about 1,200,000 properties in 225 countries and books
1,200,000 room nights per day. Therefore, almost all of its revenue is agency revenue made up of
travel commissions.
Agency revenues for the year ended December 31, 2015 increased 11.7% compared to the year
ended December 31, 2014. The growth of business of Booking.com, rentalcars.com, priceline.com
and agoda.com led to the increasing. But the stronger U.S. Dollar significantly adversely affected
the growth of agency revenues which was expressed in U.S. Dollars.

Guns Germs And Steel
In Jared Diamonds book, Guns, Germs, and Steel, he outlines the major factors that have
contributed to both European colonization, and subsequent Indigenous defeats, as well as to
globalization. Specifically, I will be expanding on the factors that contributed to Fernando Pizarro
s miraculous, and somewhat unlikely defeat of the Incan emperor Atahualpa at the battle of
Cajamarca. Francisco Pizarro s defeat of the Incan Emperor Atahualpa with only 168 Spaniards
compared to an Incan army 500 times more numerous is seen historically as being a success by
Diamond. This success can be seen as being a conglomerate of different attributes rather than one

In his book, Technology, Disease, and Colonial Conquests, Sixteenth to Eighteenth Centuries:
Essays Reappraising the Guns and Germs Theories, he argues that Cajamarca itself could be
considered more of a coup d etat than an actual battle. As Raudzens explains, according to the
Spanish chronicler, Garcilo de la Vega, the battle was a diplomatic conference, where the guest
negotiators happened to turn on their hosts, when they were themselves most vulnerable. To
Raudzens, this battle seems to have proven nothing about the military power of the Spanish, but
rather of their nastiness over the Incas. Another point expanded on by Rautzens is the Guns and
Germs theory propagated by Diamond. To Rautzen, the technological implications of the battle
were a greater factor than that of disease, as disease did not directly impede on the battle itself.
As Garcilo de la Vega described about the battle, the Spanish s battle tactics consisted of cannon
and Gun fire, followed by a charge of 62 cavalry, and lastly completed with armored men on foot.
To Raudzen, many of these points are over dramatized in many accounts. Both the horses, and the
guns of the Spanish inhibited a large shock effect among the Inca, but their guns could only fire
once and were few. As for the horses, the majority of the fighting was taking place in an urban
setting, which limited their maneuvering ability. Also the Incas did possess body armor, though it
was not up to par with that of the Spanish s steel. He also agrees with most scholars, (e.g.
Diamond, Ibid, Hyman and Orish) in that the majority of the fighting took place with swords. He
ends by suggesting that rather than Pizarro s victory being one of a technological sort, it was one in
which was more marginal than

SIX DEBATES over MACROECONOMIC POLICY
ISSUES| YES| NO| 1. Whether or not monetary and fiscal policymakers should try to stabilize the

and believe that policy can manage aggregate demand, and thereby, production and employment, to
offset the inherent instability. When aggregate demand is inadequate to ensure full employment,
policymakers should boost government spending, cut taxes, and expand money supply. However,

Increased spending on investment adds to aggregate demand and helps to restore normal levels of
production and employment.Fiscal policy, on the other hand, can provide an additional tool to
combat recessions and is particularly useful when the tools of monetary policy lose their
effectiveness. When the government cuts taxes, it increases households disposable income, which
encourages them to increase spending on consumption. When the government buys goods and
services, it adds directly to aggregate demand. Moreover, these fiscal actions can have multiplier
effects: Higher aggregate demand leads to higher incomes, which in turn induces additional
consumer spending and further increases in aggregate demand.Traditional Keynesian analysis
indicates that increases in government purchases are a more potent tool than decreases in taxes.
When the government gives a dollar in tax cuts to a household, part of that dollar may be saved
rather than spent. The part of the dollar that is saved does not contribute to the aggregate demand
for goods and services. By contrast, when the government spends a dollar buying a good or
service, that dollar immediately and fully adds to aggregate demand.| Critics of spending hikes
argue that tax cuts can expand both aggregate demand and aggregate supply and that hasty
increases in government spending may lead to wasteful public projects.Tax cuts increase aggregate
demand by increasing household s disposable income, as

Regular Warfare Vs Irregular Warfare
The combined characteristics of both Irregular Warfare (IW) and Regular Warfare (RW) define
Hybrid Threat (HT). It is the most comprehensive form of threat. During the Korean War, North
Korea (NK) fought with conventional equipment and tactics. Now, NK is threatening to use
Weapons of Mass Destruction (WMD).This has created a hybrid threat to the United States, and rest

Irregular Warfare seeks to influence beliefs, ideologies, and culture. The ultimate objective of IW is

Military must rely on other allied nations and their forces to combat NK. North Korea s use of

defeating adversary s armed forces, destroying equipment and seizing territory . (TC 7 100, p.2 2).
Armed forces are comparatively visible and predictable as the personnel and equipment movements
are easier to identify. Traditional military s follow strict rules and law dealing with direct offensive
and defensive operations. During the Korean War, North Korea employed force on force traditional
methods of war. Regular Warfare reveals results faster as the mission is conducted with direct
means of military fire

What Is The Similarities Between Pride And Prejudice And...
Interrelationships in Joe Wright s Pride and Prejudice (2005) and Atonement (2007)
Joe Wright (London, 1972 ) is an internationally acclaimed English film director. He is particularly
famous for the cinematic adaptations of two major works within English Literature; that is, Jane
Austen s Pride and Prejudice (1813) and Ian McEwan s Atonement (2001). In the following essay, I
shall discuss the interrelationships that can be found between the two, with a special focus on the
central motifs, the audio visuals, the cast and crew and lastly, the angle taken by Wright himself on
his own cinematic production.
Pride and Prejudice and Atonement s central motifs are to some extent alike. In Pride and
Prejudice, the couple has to hurdle both Darcy s pride and Elizabeth s derisive prejudice towards
him so that they fulfil their love. In Atonement, love is also an important theme, yet Cecilia and
Robbie s relationship is portrayed quite differently. In Pride and Prejudice, love and desire are
portrayed in a more sentimental and chaste manner whereas in Atonement the portrait is much more
troublesome and passionate. The historical ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As regards soundtrack, both films share composer Dario Marianelli. Concerning camerawork,
the steadicam tracking shot should be highlighted. It is used in both films, in Pride and Prejudice
for example, it is used at the beginning of the narrative when Elizabeth goes through the laundry
and we enter to the house for the first time, and it is also used at one of the balls. In Atonement,
this shot is used to portray a clear image of the war. The use of these shots give the viewer a sense
of being inside the story; they engage viewers in the narrative. Besides, when Wright was asked at
the Toronto Film Festival whether such shots excited him when he is watching a film, he

American Reconstruction After The Civil War
Many historians argue about the result of the reconstruction. By reading the sources I concluded
that the American reconstruction after the war was somewhat successful. According to Frances
after the civil war, the north sent many generals to the south to control territories until the land was
settling. According to her augments the claims that the generals would force the people to bow
down to them. People in the south considered them as tyrants. Another thing that many people in
the south were angry about was the fact that most black in the south had more right to vote that
some of the whites themselves. She mentions that if blacks in the north could not vote why the
blacks in the south should (366). This clearly shows the high disapproval

A Comparison Of The Holidays In Thanksgiving, Christmas...
While holidays have often been criticized as ploys to push consumerism on to the public, they have
also been widely recognized as a reason for families to come together and interact with one another.
These annual interactions often repeated certain behaviors, thus they serve as guidelines for how
the familyshould operate during future holidays. To gain a better understanding on the connection
between family identity and family rituals, I decided to interview my father on his Thanksgiving,
Christmasand New Year s Eve traditions. During my interview with my father I observed that the
holiday rituals present within his family have contributed largely to the way he perceives his
family identity. Through this paper I will be using content from the interview regarding traditions
for Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year s Eve, as well as other academic material to analyze
how holiday traditions contribute to my father s perceptionof his family identity. To begin, when I
asked my father to describe the essentials to his ideal Thanksgiving, the first thing he mentioned
was the preparation of traditional ethnic foods. He went on to detail foods such as candied yams,
macaroni and cheese and spiraled honey ham. By my father listing these ethnic foods as essential to
an ideal Thanksgiving, it shows us that his ethnicity contributes to the way he believes the family
should function during the holiday. Another detail that he mentioned as important to his ideal
Thanksgiving was the

Voodoo Facts
There are three different denominations associated with Voodoo. The first and most popular
practice of this religion is the orthodox Voodoo. The Orthodox Voodoo was based on Dahomey
rites. The Kingdom of Dahomey, which was established and lasted during the 1600 s till the late
1800 s when the last living chief, Behanzin, was annexed and defeated by the French colonial
empire. The Dahomey kingdom created different unique beliefs, ceremonies and religious idealisms

Demolition Man Dystopian Elements
Intro: The main dystopian element used in the book the host and the movie demolition man is
citizens conform to uniform expectations and rebel. This dystopian element is being portrayed by
the act of feminists, and through the baltimore riots in our world today. Without these think

The dystopian element is similar to source #1 the host because they both have citizens who want to
take their world back. Within the movie Demolition Man the main character John Spartan choses to
lead a rebellion against the new government leader because of his unjust ways of living. John
goes down into the under living areas where people don t follow the rules up above and have
their own way of living. The sewer people consider John to be a blessing in disguise causing
them to get riled up and deciding to kill Dr. Raymond Cocteau. Demolition Man shows how
citizens conform to uniform expectations and rebel by the sewer people deciding to kill Dr.
Raymond Cocteau the leader of the normal world. This is also demonstrated in The Host when
Melanie beings to take back her own body and rebels against Wanda. The Sewer people in
Demolition Man effect the society up above because they take their food also show them their
way of living by wearing whatever they want and doing whatever they want. Inside the
dystopian society another main character Simon Phoenix breaks many laws also getting a
small amount of people to follow him into battle against the above world. Simone leads with
John Spartan in order to get their city back to the way it was originally and towards the end of
the movie they succeed. After Simone kills Dr. Cocteau John leads the sewer people up from
under the world and shows them their new world they then begin to ignore all of the old laws
and the citizens from up above follow the new rules and many continue to join making their new
world. This finale act of rebellion shows how even small acts can lead to big changes. The
dystopian element of citizens conform to uniform expectations and rebel act as a bonding path of
Demolition man and the host as both main characters cause a rebellion so big that they end up

Video Games And Aggression
The article, Violent video games and anger as predictors of aggression, explains the research that
was done to show how video game violence is conjoined with aggression. The study was done
with 79 females and 88 males. The result of the study was that those who were more angry at the
time, were the ones who were more affected with the study. Jack Thompson (2000) explained how
those people who were involved in school shootings were more likely prone to being video gamers.
Especially now that video games now have more violencein them, which makes people want to
buy them more because of how entertaining it is. They also believe that those who are known to
be angry and play violent video games are characterized to be socially awkward, lonely,... Show

Giumetti and Pattrick M. Markey, chose to write this article on the theory of violent video games
being associated with aggression. They had quite a few references where they have gotten their
information from. They used those references to help them emphasize their theories, beliefs, and
facts of violent video games and aggression before doing the study on their participants. All the
different types of researchers and their theories were an example of how their is diversity in the
examples that they had. Each one of those researchers had developed some facts on how the
video games that are violent will cause angry people, or people in general, to experience some sort
of aggression. They have a unique form of how they interpret their research to the actual study,
since everything is very different. The ethics of the study are greatly represented in the article. It is
simple to understand that they had very excellent morals for doing this study. First, they gather
participants that are in college or around that age. This is because they needed people who would
understand the environment of video games, instead of having grown adults who would not be as
affected to study. Everything that they did during the study was based on good morals and
everything was effectively all done with the consent of the participants. The limitations that they
might have had is knowing whether the person would show aggression or satisfaction after playing
the violent video game. Since the violent games are supposed to show the aggression that that
person should have after playing it, they could come out with a different approach to it. The
confounds that were found were when the people showed the aggression that they had after they
heard the stories that had happened to the main character in each story. Since those are not
controlled by the researchers, the participants are allowed to have their own personal reactions
towards what they heard. Both articles,

The Mozart effect is it a fact or a myth? Mozart was a classical composer from the mid 1700 s.
Mozart illustrated a colossal amount of musical talent from a young age. By five years old
Mozart was very talented with the keyboard, violin and had composed and performed his piece for
the European royalty. Mozart is best known for his contributions to symphonies, concertos, and

The Mozart effect was a study that was conducted at the University of California in Irvine,
California. The Mozart effect was developed by Dr. Gordon Shaw in the early 1990 s. Dr. Shaw s
theory was that if you listen to classical music the resultant would be a smarter you. (Fowers,
2000). The study was conducted by gathering students to volunteer to take part in an experiment.
The volunteers were given headsets to listen to either white noise, relaxation music, or Mozart for
ten minutes. (Jensen, pg. 25). Once the ten minutes had passed the volunteers were asked to
perform a variety of spatial skills. The results were that the students who were listening to Mozart
were more proficient on the spatial skills test than the other two groups. (Jensen, pg. 25).

Comparison Of Dialogue In The Treasure Of Lemon Brown And...
Dialogue in a story can really make you fully understand the characters and everything else about
the story differently in a better way. The story The Treasure of Lemon Brown by Walter Dean
Myers and the book Canyons by Gary Paulsen use dialogue in their stories. Walter Dean Myers
uses dialogue in his story to make you understand the characters a little bitmore and Gary Paulsen
uses dialogueto make you understand the tone of the story a little bit better.
Walter Dean Myers uses dialogue to make you understand the characters a little bit more in the
story The Treasure of Lemon Brown . For example, And you want to play basketball? His father
s brows knitted over deep brown eyes. That must be some kind of joke. Now you just get into
your room and hit these books. This quote shows that Greg s father was very upset about Greg s
grades. Mainly he is upset because when he was a kid he didn t have access to the kind of
education Greg has now in fact, he only had an education until he was thirteen, so he wants Greg
to take advantage and learn as much as he can. Another example is He went to the window and
was about to look out when he heard a voice behind him. Don t try nothin cause I got a razor here
sharp enough to cut a week into nine days! Lemon Brown is the one speaking in this quote and
he is scared because a boy has walked into his house. This helps you understand that Lemon
Brown is a nervous guy that thinks he has an intruder. My final example is I used to travel
around and make money for to feed my wife and Jesse that s my boy s name. Used to feed them
good, too. Then his mama died, and he stayed with his mama s sister. He growed up to be a man,
and when the war come, he saw fit to go off and fight in it. I didn t have nothing to give him
except these things that told him who I was and what he come from. If you know your pappy did
something, you know you can do something too. Anyway, he went off to war, and I went off still
playing and singing. Course by then I wasn t as much as I used to be, not without somebody to
make it worth the while. You know what I mean? Yeah, Greg nodded, Lemon Brown shared his
treasure to Greg and this shows that he really cares about his family. You can tell

Essay on Luaghing Comedy-Oliver Goldsmith
The Theatre, like all other amusements, has its fashions and its prejudices, and when satiated with
its excellence, mankind begin to mistake change for improvement. For some years tragedy was
the reigning entertainment, but of late it has entirely given way to comedy, and our best efforts
are now exerted in these lighter kinds of composition. The pompous train, the swelling phrase, and
the unnatural rant, are displaced for that natural portrait of human folly and frailty, of which all
are judges, because all have sat for the picture. But as in describing nature it is presented with a
double face, either of mirth or sadness, our modern writers find themselves at a loss which chiefly
to copy from, and it is now debated, whether the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In these plays almost all the characters are good, and exceedingly generous; they are lavish enough
of their tin money on the stage, and though they want humor, have abundance of sentiment and
feeling. If they happen to have faults or foibles, the spectator is taught not only to pardon, but to
applaud them, in consideration of the goodness of their hearts; so that folly, instead of being
ridiculed, is commended, and the comedy aims at touching our passions, without the power of
being truly pathetic. In this manner we are likely to lose one great source of entertainment on
the stage; for while the comic poet is invading the province of the tragic muse, he leaves her
lovely sister quite neglected. Of this, however, he is no way solicitous, as he measures his fame
by his profits. But it will be said, that the theatre is formed to amuse mankind, and that it matters
little, if this end be answered, by what means it is obtained. If mankind find delight in weeping at
comedy, it would be cruel to abridge them in that or any other innocent pleasure. If those pieces
are denied the name of comedies, yet call them by any other name, and if they are delightful, they
are good. Their success, it will be said, is a mark of their merit, and it is only abridging our
happiness to deny us an inlet to amusement. These objections, however, are rather specious than
solid. It is true, that amusement is a great object at a

Essay on With the setting of the sun
With the setting of the sun
In F. Scott Fitzgerald s novel, The Great Gatsby, there is a constant feeling of movement and the
desire to get away. Nick, Gatsby, Wilson,
Tom and Daisy all move, or have the intention of moving. Not only does this movement seem to
foreshadow events in the book, but it also seems to lead to the conclusion that society as a whole in
the 1920 s was rather unstable and was undergoing constant change. Not all the characters move in
the same way, and this shows how different their backgrounds and lifestyles are. The main
movement seems to be from west to east. Throughout the decades man is said to be progressing
through the steps of evolution and toward the setting sun, or east to west. The characters ... Show

Nick says, [h]e talked a lot about the past and
I gathered that he wanted to recover something, some idea of himself perhaps, that had gone into
loving Daisy. (117) This shows how time could never change his dream, and that Gatsby feels that
if he talks about the past then he will be able to change the future for the better. The sun also stands
for power and greatness, which made Jay Gatsby shine right through Jimmie Gatz. He starts of
engulfed in darkness, as his dream does not exist. From there he seems to be obsessed with this
reverie, and effectively kills off Jimmie Gatz and creates Jay Gatsby.
This new personality is formed when the sun rises, bathing him in light. Jay Gatsby sprang from his
Platonic conception of himself (104), and even with this change he still believed that the rock of
the world was founded securely on a fairy s wing. (105) This new light blinds the people that
look at him, and covers up his old self. Although it covers him, some people like Mr. Sloane see
him as
Jimmie Gatz, and are disgusted by it. The first time Tom meets Gatsby is when he, Mr. Sloane
and a young woman stop by his house while out riding. Gatsby tells Tom that he knows Daisy, to
which Tom states later, I may be old fashioned in my ideas but women run around too much these
days to suit me. They meet all kinds of crazy fish. (110)

College Dropout Research
An increment in college drop out rates with the inability to do well in courses has been on the

In 1997 just over 54 percent of students who enrolled in 4 year colleges earned their degree six

on this matter with his data driven studies on college athletes, college access and affirmative action

Afghanistan War Essay
In 2001 the Twin Towers were destroyed by two planes and also there were two other planes one
was supposed to hit the White House and the other the Pentagon. This started the war in
Afghanistan. It s been eight years since this incident, and the United States and President Obama
still want to keep this war going. Next year they are going to send 30,000 troops to Afghanistan
and Iraq. There are three reasons why they shouldn t send them: one for their safety; two
Afghanistan should keep their business to themselves; and three it s going to affect the economy
big time. First of all President Obama is going to send 30,000 troops to Afghanistan next year. My

See this isn t our problem yet because they are planning but they haven t done it yet. So the United
States military should just get prepared and stop this war. Because is this all necessary to really
to keep this war going, it s been eight years really they should just don t send the troops. Ok also
before the twin towers were destroyed, Afghanistan had more problems with their neighbor they
were going to get in a war and that s when the United States got involved and tried to stop that war
from happening. Like they shouldn t have gotten involved because probably when they destroyed
the Twins Towers was because they were nosy and got involved on what was not any of their
business. So yea they really shouldn t gotten into that problem because now we, the United States,
are the ones who are suffering from all this. Many would argue that the story of how 9/11 came
about goes back, at least, to 1979 when the Soviet Union invaded Afghanistan, with which it shares
a border. Afghanistan had experienced several problems since 1973, when the Afghanistan
monarchy was overthrown by Daud Khan, who was sympathetic to Soviet overtures. An
unsuspected attack reflected struggles within Afghanistan among factions with different ideas
about how Afghanistan should be governed and whether it should be communist, and with the
problems with the Soviet Union. The Soviets intervened following the overthrow of a pro
communist leader. In late December 1979, after several months

П‡MT at 280 K are 12.1; 15.1; 18.6; 18.3 cm3 molв€’1 K (1; 2; 3; 4), consistent with four

In order to obtain a good match to the data at low temperature, an intermolecular interaction, zJ,
was included using the mean field approximation. The simulation shown in Fig. 5 has J =
+0.255 cmв€’1 and zJ = в€’0.045 cmв€’1. Exchange between two transition metal ions as
mediated by the closed shell Ln(III) ions [La(III) at one end of the series, or Lu(III) at the other]
has been found to be weak.29, 66, 67 A recent study used DFT calculations to show the exchange
between Mn(III) ions across Y(III) in a Mn8Y8 disc to measure J = +0.43 cmв€’1,68 while
antiferromagnetic coupling was observed in a linear Ni La Ni compound (J = в€’0.978 cmв€’1).69
An alternative to intermolecular antiferromagnetic interactions as an explanation for the decrease in
П‡MT at low temperatures could be the ZFS associated with the Mn(III) ions. However, any
attempt to include a contribution for the ZFS of the Mn(III) ion in the simulations was unsuccessful,
because it overcompensated the weak intramolecular coupling interaction and negated the increase
in П‡MT that is observed on lowering the temperature. To confirm the suitability of the simulated
intra and and intermolecular exchange interactions found for compound 1, and to investigate the
possible ZFS associated with the Mn(III) ions, we used DFT and CASSCF calculations (vide infra).

  • 2. Learning Disposition And Analysis This first assignment will be explaining my learning disposition and personal experiences of education and learning prior to starting at Sheffield Hallam University. This will focus on my different experiences and memories of education before starting my course, I will also relate any experiences to suitable theories and theorists. One the first entries in my journals and my earliest memories of educationwas reflecting what my learningstyle. I have always found it easier to learn from listening and taking my time, rather than jumping into work. At nursery, many of the children would want to go ahead and try out all the activities hands on, I on the other hand would always be sat waiting for the teacher to explain more and to receive instructions.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Reflecting back at this I never wanted to do nursing, I feel I only made this decision because it is what my mother wanted to do this when she was younger. This could relate to Bandura s theory of social learning, this because even though Bandura believed classical and operate condition contributed towards social learning, he also believed two other factors effected this, which are imitation and identification (Learning theories in childhood, Gray,C). This relates to me and my college degree as I identified myself with my Mother and imitated her dreams and behaviours. Going into college I went in with a fixed mind set, (Dweck, 1998). This is because I did not really want to do nursing in the future, felt like I couldn t learn anything, believed I was smart enough to do it and was also facing some mental problems at the time. At this period of education I did not attend many of my lessons and I had no motivation to learn. This strongly related to Carr and Claxton (1995). Claxon (1995) believed you had to be ready, willing, and able to learn and at that time in my life, I was not. According to Perkins et al (1995) Dispositions are based in the belief systems, values and attitudes as equally as it is in your cognitive structure . As well as this disposition is linked with the idea of our possible selves and at the time I was not mentally in the right place, meaning this effected what my idea of myself actually was. To link this in with my college experience, at the time my idea of my self was that I was worthless therefore I believed I was worthless and did not believe I could make it through college. This could have also related back to my experiences in primary school ( mentioned in the essay earlier) due to not feeling good enough. This could have contributed to me later dropping out. This could be because I had already have formed these beliefs and values prior to coming to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Median Housing Price Of The Great Lake Megaregion Table 1 provides descriptive statistics of independent and dependent variables used in our analysis. Median housing price of the Great Lake Megaregion is $164,447 and its monthly growth rate is 0.31% during 2013 June through 2016 May. The average value of planning time index is 3.01 and its monthly growth rate is 1.34%. Interest rateand mortgage rate are 0.79% and 4.03%, respectively. The averageconstruction price index obtained from Census is 112.46. The average unemployment rate is 5.64. The number of household and the number of firm at the zip code level is 8,581 and 726, respectively. And their vacant rates are 3.32% and 9.58%. The average percentages of park and lake are about 2%. 4.2. Estimation results of Housing Price Model Table 2 presents estimation results of our empirical model represented by equation (5). The first column shows estimation results only including housing prices and traffic congestion index without other control variables. The result presents that traffic congestion growth is negatively associated with growth in median housing prices. Such results are slightly changed when including control variables or fixed effects terms, but almost consistent and robust as shown in the model (2) through model (6). Since different locations and different time influence growth in housing prices (see Figure 5, again), model (6) that include locational and time fixed effects is the best fit to explain the relationship between congestion growth and housing price ... • 4. The Evolution of Modern Humans While time travel still remains elusive to us, scientists have been able to discover things about our past as a species that were practically inconceivable over 150 years ago when Charles Darwin released his book entitled The Origin of Species. They have especially uncovered many pieces to our still incomplete puzzle over the past 20 years so that we now have a nearly complete idea of how our species Homo sapiens came to be. This story of our history includes dozens of species and hundreds of fossils and bones, yet fairly few complete or even partial skeletons. Hominids have gone through many changes to get from one of our earliest species Ardipithecus ramidus to Homo sapiens which scientists have been able to discover... Members of the Australopithecus anamensis species also had long forearms and wrist bone features which suggest tree climbing. They were thickly built with long narrow jaws. Their side rows of teeth were in parallel lines and were heavily enameled which entails that they ate hard, abrasive foods such as nuts, but researchers also believe that they also ate fruits. These hominids were possibly the size of modern female chimpanzees and there is evidence of sexual dimorphism. (Leakey et al, 1995; White et al, 2006) Discovered in 1974, Australopithecus afarensis is one of the most famous early hominids and they are the direct descendants of Australopithecus anamensis. Australopithecus afarensis as a species was not named until 1978, after many fossil discoveries of the same type were found at sites in Hadar, Ethiopia and Laetoli, Tanzania. Some of the fossils categorized as a part of this species were found as early as in the 1930 s. They were around for more than 900,000 years which makes them the longest lived species and there are over 300 sets of remains of Australopithecus afarensis. One of the most famous hominid skeletons is 3.2 million year old Lucy (AL 288 1), discovered by Donald Johanson and Maurice Taieb in Hadar, Ethiopia in 1974. • 5. How Energy And The United State s Global Influence On The... The Unites States and The People s Republic of China have been ever growing superpowers on the world scene since the last century. Their economies, military and social policies have been models and adapted by other nations on Earth and their present day influences in these same criteria seem to have no end. The driving force behind China s industrialization and the United State s global influence are one in the same; Energy. Both these nations have been fortunate enough through their geological locations to be able to find and harvest different sources of energy to propel their governments, economies, militaries, ect and with the help of harvesting the ingenuity of their respective populations to drive the discovery of more efficient and productive technologies in aspects of economics, home life and energy. This essay will go on to illustrate what energy sources either nations use and why they use them, what sources of energy they are trying to further develop and what sources of energy they import as well as export. • 6. My Speech On The Emergency Medicine Class In the summer of 2014, I thought I had life completely planned out. I was enrolled at Rowan Cabarrus Community College while still attending Mount Pleasant High School. I had just started taking my Emergency Medicine class and had already completed two thirds of my fire class. I volunteered at Northeast Cabarrus Fire Department and was so close to becoming an interior firefighter, I could taste it. I never slowed down enough to think about God s plan for me. I seemed to only care about creating my own plan and following through with it. My intentions were to graduate high school and be completely done with my education. Graduating meant I was free to spend my time chasing my dreams, but that changed on my way to my Emergency Medicine ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I was overcome with an intense pain shooting from my neck to the area between my shoulders. My breathing slowed and shortly was accompanied by my low moans as I tried to squeeze little bits of air into my lungs. I could feel myself being consumed by the feeling of fire inside my chest. I passed out for what felt like a long night s sleep, to only be awakened by the sound of the ambulance and the frosty fingers holding my C spine. My precisely drawn out plan was no longer in my control; I had relinquished all rights to my plan when I agreed to join the game leap frog. That fun game of leap frog left me with broken dreams and in excruciating pain. At some point on that rainy day, I found myself consumed in complete and utter denial. It must have been after the doctors notified my parents that I had broken four thoracic vertebra; my T 1 though T 4. The doctors told me my life would never be the same because my back problems would limit my future plans. They informed me the pain I felt would go down some, but never completely subside. A couple doctors wanted to place me on a pain medicine regimen for the rest of my life. I remember the icy puddles from my tears that accumulated on my pillow, the smell of the doctor s cologne that slowly suffocated my already struggling breaths, and the sound of my mother weeping at my bedside. I took the diagnosis like a bullet; it pierced my heart and exited my body carrying my ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

As developing nations become more independent, one could argue that their crime rate would be decreasing as well. However, gang related violence has increased as developing countries improve economically, socially, and financially. As a result, their law enforcement system and corruption has increased to win the race of monetary influence. Gang related fixed through the acquisition of monetary influence alone. In addition, internal corruption within governments propel organized gang crime. The corruption of Venezuelan governments allows an increasingly corrupt system. In this government, one earns rans by loyalty to a political party ( Global World Report 2013). As gangs earn merits to a particular party, their crimes are accountable for the money they contribute to a certain party. Another example of corruption within a government is the South African government. The use of gangs is often implied to eliminate political opposition. The money that the governments lend gangs increases the amount of crime they can commit. Often policeman are prone to bribery by gangs gained by the corrupt officials in the government. Flags Of Our Fathers And Visit To St. Elizabeth s In times upon which a society is distant from its core values, when members are challenged by their internal values and their loyalty to their nation; there lies a memory of what once was. It is often that memory permits members any society that were wronged or denied their rights, that provides the hope necessary to prevail through and act during difficult times. Patriotism is believing in one s nation. The belief is developed from the greatness that was perceived by its citizens and that creates those precious memories that are referred to in dark times to lead people to act when their own nation may be against them. Anne Frank once wrote in her diary, I think that it will all come right, that this cruelty too will end and that peace and tranquility will return again (Frank, 1942). • 10. Similarities Between Frankenstein And An Essay On Man There are several identical themes in both Alexander Pope s An Essay on Man, and Mary Shelley s Frankenstein. In An Essay on Man, Pope describes many complexities of mankind, which range from man s identity, to his relationship with God. In Frankenstein, Shelley depicts the story of Victor Frankenstein, a scientist who creates a living being, and he later suffers negative consequences as a result of his actions. Alexander Pope s An Essay on Man, contains similar themes to Mary Shelley s Frankensteinbecause he raises questions about self identification, the influence of scientific knowledge on an individual, and how the desire to act like God can be dangerous; with this connection between the two texts, Frankenstein s downfall, as a result... This quote highlights the ability that scientific knowledge has to inspire an individual. The phrase Go wondrous creature connotes a glorifying identity for those who choose to accept and participate in the inspirational world of science. However, if the knowledge is pursued to an extreme, it can begin to have disastrous. results. In Mary Shelley s novel, Frankenstein s work exhibits the theme of the negative influence that scientific knowledge can have, because while reflecting on the process of constructing the Creature, Frankenstein states: I seemed to have lost all soul or sensation but for this one pursuit (36). As his obsession with his pursuit advances, he describes: Every night I was oppressed by a slow fever, and I became nervous to a most painful degree (38). These quotes function primarily to demonstrate that Frankenstein chooses to embrace scientific knowledge, but he becomes so consumed by it, that the desire for pivotal scientific development possesses him to a most painful degree. As a result, Frankenstein becomes a slave to his work, and it has an extremely harmful impact on his mental and physical well being. • 12. The Education Of The United States Essay The Education Revolution Currently, the United States is ranked 14th in its educational standard, 17th in educational performance and 24th in literacy (Mark). Compared to the rest of the world, we are behind countries like Poland, China, Finland and New Zealand. For a country that prides itself on its successful western society, what is stopping us from having an education system to match the standards we have put on the rest of our amenities. However, a solution is closer than it seems. According to Rasmussen College, there are 6.7 million students currently enrolled in online courses, therefore with an increasing number of students attending these classes, it is not a question on whether or not these classes will become normal, but when and how these classes will revolutionize our education system (Bird). Online courses offer students the ability to create an education based around their schedule, and allow students who may struggle or may not be able to attend a traditional school environment the chance to have an equal education. Not only can the students benefit from an online education environment, but both schools and professors can gain from an online system. Moreover, such courses can help create a global education system that allows anyone to have the same access to an education anywhere in the world as long as they have a connection to the internet. The Internet And The World Wide Web The Internet is a unique place where all different nationalities, social groups and age groups with different values and characteristics, meet and interact. All spheres of media are being represented on the world wide web. Some of the relations are being mirrored from those present in real life, but the internetwas never the same. As with real life, not everyone on the internet is equal and there are numerous differences between the users of this medium of mass communication. Even though the inequalities are still present on the internet, they are subtler than those existing within the offline world. Almost everyone has access, but how we benefit from it depends on our status, intelligence and willingness to explore. Audience members are becoming important and active producers, being given the tools, which bring them closer to professionals. Every internet user has equal access to an online education, but an intellectually privileged group will make a more productive use of it. This can be named as equalityof opportunity. The argument cannot be defined into one side. Average people can keep in touch and interact with celebrities, which would never happen outside the internet. They obey the same rules and laws imposed by the services they use, yet are not equal, as famous people are more powerful, being in charge of a huge fan base. Through analysis of the Netherlands Party for Freedom (PVV) and the Netherlands Socialist Party (Socialistische Partij) alongside the World Values Survey, I will assess the values of each party and compare their supporters through various variables in order to further examine Nationalism. In comparison of the Party for Freedom and the Socialist Party, I will focus on the country s answer toward the question: Which party would you vote for if there were a national election tomorrow, as well as analyze the various demographics involved. The Netherlandsis run based upon a parliamentary representative democracy with both parties analyzed containing the same number of seats within the parliament. Thus, both parties, despite having different worldviews, carry similarities throughout the nationalistic views of the Dutch people. In order to inaugurate the analysis, we must begin by determining the nationalistic views within the Netherlands and understand the basis behind each party. Read on to learn about PCI regulations and what you need to do to remain compliant. What is PCI? PCI stands for Payment Card Industry. When referring to the subject of PCI compliance, you are actually talking about a set of industry standards known as PCI DSS, where the DSS stands for Data Security Standards. These standards were designed to ensure that businesses handle credit card information in a secure manner. The first version of data security standards was released in December 2004 to combat the increasing rate at which cardholder information was being stolen online. The PCI DSS was established in 2006 with the formation of the Payment Card Industry Security Standards Council (PCI SSC). The council focuses on improving security of credit card transactions as technology and market trends change the security concerns in the industry. The PCI SSC was created by the major credit card brands, including MasterCard, Visa, American Express and Discover; however, the council is not responsible for PCI compliance. However, some mammals have developed independently to obtain much more durable dermal protection. Highlighted here specifically, will be the specimens within the families of Manidae and Dasypodidae. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... (Vickaryous and Hall 2006) The osteoderms are not fully formed as soon as the armadillo is born, but must grow as the armadillo itself grows. Osteoblasts secrete osteoid, which is what creates the tiled, boney structures of the osteoderms. (Vickaryous and Hall 2006) While initially grown in an even thickness, as the armadillo grows into adulthood, the dorsal surface of the osteoderms become much thicker than the ventral surface. This can be further seen in the fact that the dorsal surface will contain many of its osteoblasts, unlike the ventral surface which will have very few. (Vickaryous and Hall 2006) It is important to note, that unlike animals, such as turtles, the carapace is not directly connected the spine or ribs of the armadillo. (Vickaryous and Hall 2006) The mechanism in which armadillos use their shell to protect themselves is also very different than how a turtle would use its shell. The tiles of the osteoderms are connected to each other via collagen fibers known as Sharpeys fibers (Fig. 2). These fibers add tensile strength to the shell, allowing for the shell to be more durable, while also not requiring it to be entirely rigid. (Chen et al. 2011) This, alongside the fact that keratinized scales cover the osteoderms creates a shell that is hard, yet also flexible. • 21. David Hume s Definition Of Miracle David Hume states that, a miracle is the violation of the laws of nature (Of Miracles Part 1, Hume p 3). This is a good definition insofar as the laws of nature are assumed to be those experiences understood and defined by man. Building upon this definition, Hume s thesis stated simply is: 1)If, A miracle is the violation of the laws of nature (Of Miracles Part 1, Hume p 3) 2)And, The laws of nature are derived from men s common and consistent experience of an event i.e. when X occurs, Y is caused to happen. 3)Then, there must, therefore, be uniform experience against every miraculous event (Of Miracles Part 1, Hume p 3) 4)Therefore, miracles cannot exist and by example, the resurrection miracle is false. Hume s conclusion is false due to assertion #3 being flawed because it applies the commonly accepted measure for the laws of nature against a miracle which contradicts the definition of a miracle in #1. Further, Hume does not consider that uniform experience can be defined as a group of people experiencing a single occurrence of a miraculous event. Therefore, David Hume s thesis, that it is never rational to believe a third person account that a violation style miracle has occurred, is not sound. Assumption #1... Actions and Effects of Creatine Essay Actions and Effects of Creatine Throughout time, humans have had a fascination with being excellent at what they do, and athletics have been no exception. Many substances exist, and many have been criticized and analyzed for their safety, legality, and morality for athletes. With the banning of steroids from competitive sports, and the implementation of random drug testing in most sports, most athletes, professional, recreational, and would be professionals are hoping to gain an edge. More recently, one such edge has been discovered, and it has found itself in locker rooms across the country, in the hands of these athletes, and all the while, and probably more importantly, in the media s direct ... Current studies show that creatine supplementation can increase the amount of creatine in muscles, which in turn, speeds up the ATP refueling process (Murphy, 2000). This enhances performance by producing more energy for brief, high intensity exercise such as sprinting, and allowing for more strenuous workouts (Gutfeld, 1997). All of these factors are crucial to athletes who are searching for their legal magic bullet . Creatine was first discovered by a French scientist in 1832 (Bamberger, 1998). This scientist discovered a naturally occurring organic compound that could be produced by the kidneys, liver, and pancreas. The compound was named creatine , the Greek word for flesh (Bamberger, 1998). It has been found that most people consume 1 gram per day, along with naturally producing 1 gram (Bamberger, 1998). In 1981, the potential medical benefits of creatine were published in the New England Journal of Medicine in, seven years later, two Swedish doctors, Paul Greenhaff, and Eric Hultman, recorded performance enhancing effects of creatine in athletic subjects, and their results were published in the journal Clinical Science in 1992 (Bamberger, 1998). However, the harrowing events of the war caused people to become disillusioned with the American Dream. F. Scott Fitzgerald demonstrates this in his novel The Great Gatsby. Different elements of the book represent different ways in which the American Dream declined. Tom and Myrtle s affair shows how people lacked morality, Daisy s marriage with Tom demonstrates how people gave up happiness for money, Wilson s anger at the billboard of T.J. The end of World War I was, in actuality, just a predecessor for World War II. With brief peace, the feeling of uneasiness loomed. In Lost Generation in the 1920s: 1919 1927, Carlisle states, Thus in Europe, World War I clearly gave birth to a set of discontents that would coalesce into World War II, (Carlisle). This feeling resided in the minds of the people. Fitzgerald expressed this in the last words of the novel, narrated by Nick Carraway, So we beat on, boats against the current, borne back ceaselessly into the past, (180). The current is the inevitability of the past recurring. Fitzgerald ends the novel this way to exhibit that all the events of the war are bound to repeat, and to cement the idea that humanity will never morally advance. This belief of hopelessness is the last element in the multi faceted predicament of the American people s disillusionment. F. Scott Fitzgeraldused different components to represent the post war disenchantment with the American Dream. Myrtle s immoral actions exemplify the lack of respect for ethics, Daisy s marriage shows the preference of the American People of wealth over happiness, Wilson s anger reflects the feeling of punishment from God, and the final words of the book display the inevitability of the past repeating. Guns Germs And Steel In Jared Diamonds book, Guns, Germs, and Steel, he outlines the major factors that have contributed to both European colonization, and subsequent Indigenous defeats, as well as to globalization. Specifically, I will be expanding on the factors that contributed to Fernando Pizarro s miraculous, and somewhat unlikely defeat of the Incan emperor Atahualpa at the battle of Cajamarca. Francisco Pizarro s defeat of the Incan Emperor Atahualpa with only 168 Spaniards compared to an Incan army 500 times more numerous is seen historically as being a success by Diamond. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In his book, Technology, Disease, and Colonial Conquests, Sixteenth to Eighteenth Centuries: Essays Reappraising the Guns and Germs Theories, he argues that Cajamarca itself could be considered more of a coup d etat than an actual battle. As Raudzens explains, according to the Spanish chronicler, Garcilo de la Vega, the battle was a diplomatic conference, where the guest negotiators happened to turn on their hosts, when they were themselves most vulnerable. To Raudzens, this battle seems to have proven nothing about the military power of the Spanish, but rather of their nastiness over the Incas. Another point expanded on by Rautzens is the Guns and Germs theory propagated by Diamond. To Rautzen, the technological implications of the battle were a greater factor than that of disease, as disease did not directly impede on the battle itself. As Garcilo de la Vega described about the battle, the Spanish s battle tactics consisted of cannon and Gun fire, followed by a charge of 62 cavalry, and lastly completed with armored men on foot. To Raudzen, many of these points are over dramatized in many accounts. Both the horses, and the guns of the Spanish inhibited a large shock effect among the Inca, but their guns could only fire once and were few. As for the horses, the majority of the fighting was taking place in an urban setting, which limited their maneuvering ability. Also the Incas did possess body armor, though it was not up to par with that of the Spanish s steel. He also agrees with most scholars, (e.g. Diamond, Ibid, Hyman and Orish) in that the majority of the fighting took place with swords. Increased spending on investment adds to aggregate demand and helps to restore normal levels of production and employment.Fiscal policy, on the other hand, can provide an additional tool to combat recessions and is particularly useful when the tools of monetary policy lose their effectiveness. When the government buys goods and services, it adds directly to aggregate demand. Moreover, these fiscal actions can have multiplier effects: Higher aggregate demand leads to higher incomes, which in turn induces additional consumer spending and further increases in aggregate demand.Traditional Keynesian analysis indicates that increases in government purchases are a more potent tool than decreases in taxes. When the government gives a dollar in tax cuts to a household, part of that dollar may be saved rather than spent. The part of the dollar that is saved does not contribute to the aggregate demand for goods and services. He is particularly famous for the cinematic adaptations of two major works within English Literature; that is, Jane Austen s Pride and Prejudice (1813) and Ian McEwan s Atonement (2001). In the following essay, I shall discuss the interrelationships that can be found between the two, with a special focus on the central motifs, the audio visuals, the cast and crew and lastly, the angle taken by Wright himself on his own cinematic production. In Pride and Prejudice, the couple has to hurdle both Darcy s pride and Elizabeth s derisive prejudice towards him so that they fulfil their love. Each one of those researchers had developed some facts on how the video games that are violent will cause angry people, or people in general, to experience some sort of aggression. They have a unique form of how they interpret their research to the actual study, since everything is very different. The ethics of the study are greatly represented in the article. It is simple to understand that they had very excellent morals for doing this study. First, they gather participants that are in college or around that age. This is because they needed people who would understand the environment of video games, instead of having grown adults who would not be as affected to study. Everything that they did during the study was based on good morals and everything was effectively all done with the consent of the participants. The limitations that they might have had is knowing whether the person would show aggression or satisfaction after playing the violent video game. Since the violent games are supposed to show the aggression that that person should have after playing it, they could come out with a different approach to it. The confounds that were found were when the people showed the aggression that they had after they heard the stories that had happened to the main character in each story. For some years tragedy was the reigning entertainment, but of late it has entirely given way to comedy, and our best efforts are now exerted in these lighter kinds of composition. The pompous train, the swelling phrase, and the unnatural rant, are displaced for that natural portrait of human folly and frailty, of which all are judges, because all have sat for the picture. If they happen to have faults or foibles, the spectator is taught not only to pardon, but to applaud them, in consideration of the goodness of their hearts; so that folly, instead of being ridiculed, is commended, and the comedy aims at touching our passions, without the power of being truly pathetic. In this manner we are likely to lose one great source of entertainment on the stage; for while the comic poet is invading the province of the tragic muse, he leaves her lovely sister quite neglected. Of this, however, he is no way solicitous, as he measures his fame by his profits. Many would argue that the story of how 9/11 came about goes back, at least, to 1979 when the Soviet Union invaded Afghanistan, with which it shares a border. Afghanistan had experienced several problems since 1973, when the Afghanistan monarchy was overthrown by Daud Khan, who was sympathetic to Soviet overtures. An unsuspected attack reflected struggles within Afghanistan among factions with different ideas about how Afghanistan should be governed and whether it should be communist, and with the problems with the Soviet Union. The Soviets intervened following the overthrow of a pro communist leader. In late December 1979, after several months ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 54. Magnetic Properties Essay Figure 4. Side view of the [Mn4Pr4] ring in 3, showing only atoms bound to metal ions. Colour scheme as in Figure 2. Magnetic Properties The magnetic properties of compounds 1 4 were measured on polycrystalline samples dispersed in eicosane. The phase purity of the samples was demonstrated by powder X ray diffraction (see Figures S9 S12 in the SI). Fig. 5 shows the temperature dependence of П‡MT for 1 4. The values of П‡MT at 280 K are 12.1; 15.1; 18.6; 18.3 cm3 molв€’1 K (1; 2; 3; 4), consistent with four uncoupled Mn(III) ions (S = 2, g = 2, П‡MTcalc = 12.0 cm3 molв€’1 K) and four uncoupled Ln(III) ions. On lowering the temperature to 50 K, 2 4 predominately show a decrease in П‡MT, which is most likely caused by the depopulation of the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In order to obtain a good match to the data at low temperature, an intermolecular interaction, zJ, was included using the mean field approximation. The simulation shown in Fig. 5 has J = +0.255 cmв€’1 and zJ = в€’0.045 cmв€’1. Exchange between two transition metal ions as mediated by the closed shell Ln(III) ions [La(III) at one end of the series, or Lu(III) at the other] has been found to be weak.29, 66, 67 A recent study used DFT calculations to show the exchange between Mn(III) ions across Y(III) in a Mn8Y8 disc to measure J = +0.43 cmв€’1,68 while antiferromagnetic coupling was observed in a linear Ni La Ni compound (J = в€’0.978 cmв€’1).69 An alternative to intermolecular antiferromagnetic interactions as an explanation for the decrease in П‡MT at low temperatures could be the ZFS associated with the Mn(III) ions. However, any attempt to include a contribution for the ZFS of the Mn(III) ion in the simulations was unsuccessful, because it overcompensated the weak intramolecular coupling interaction and negated the increase in П‡MT that is observed on lowering the temperature. To confirm the suitability of the simulated intra and and intermolecular exchange interactions found for compound 1, and to investigate the possible ZFS associated with the Mn(III) ions, we used DFT and CASSCF calculations (vide infra).
