Metals react with oxygen in the air to form metal oxides. For example, magnesium burns with an intense light when heated in air, forming magnesium oxide. Other metals like copper and aluminum also form oxides when heated in air. The reactivity of different metals with oxygen varies, with sodium and potassium being the most reactive and catching fire in open air. Less reactive metals like iron do not burn but will react when sprinkled as filings in a flame. Some metal oxides like aluminum oxide are amphoteric, reacting with both acids and bases.

Chapter:Materials:Metals and non metals class8MananRavi
This pdf contains the class 8 chapter number-4 Materials: Metals and Non metals. This will surely help students cover the whole chapter virtually. In this current pandemic time it will be a great source for students as well as teachers.
It contains:
- Physical properties
- Chemical properties
- Use of metals and non metals
- Reactions with acid
- Reaction with bases
The questions of chapter metals and non metals all in one place to access. This question bank make the students useful to prepare for the 10th board exams.
Metals and Non-Metals form a fundamental classification of elements, playing a pivotal role in understanding the diverse world of chemistry. In Class 10, students delve into the distinct characteristics, properties, and reactions that define these two broad categories. Metals, with their conductivity and malleability, stand in stark contrast to the non-metals, which exhibit varying physical and chemical traits. These notes provide a concise exploration of the essential attributes of metals and non-metals, offering a foundational understanding for students to navigate the complexities of chemical interactions and classifications in the realm of science.

The Art Pastor's Guide to Sabbath | Steve ThomasonSteve Thomason
What is the purpose of the Sabbath Law in the Torah. It is interesting to compare how the context of the law shifts from Exodus to Deuteronomy. Who gets to rest, and why?
We all have good and bad thoughts from time to time and situation to situation. We are bombarded daily with spiraling thoughts(both negative and positive) creating all-consuming feel , making us difficult to manage with associated suffering. Good thoughts are like our Mob Signal (Positive thought) amidst noise(negative thought) in the atmosphere. Negative thoughts like noise outweigh positive thoughts. These thoughts often create unwanted confusion, trouble, stress and frustration in our mind as well as chaos in our physical world. Negative thoughts are also known as “distorted thinking”.

Operation “Blue Star” is the only event in the history of Independent India where the state went into war with its own people. Even after about 40 years it is not clear if it was culmination of states anger over people of the region, a political game of power or start of dictatorial chapter in the democratic setup.
The people of Punjab felt alienated from main stream due to denial of their just demands during a long democratic struggle since independence. As it happen all over the word, it led to militant struggle with great loss of lives of military, police and civilian personnel. Killing of Indira Gandhi and massacre of innocent Sikhs in Delhi and other India cities was also associated with this movement.
2. Chemical Properties of Metals
A.Reaction of metal with Air
B. Reaction of metal with water
C. Reaction of metal with acid (dilute)
D. Reaction of metal with solution of other
metal salts
E. Reaction of metal with non-metals
3. Reaction of metal with Air
• Metals combine with oxygen to form metal
oxide.
Metal + Oxygen → Metal oxide
Example
Magnesium + Oxygen →Magnesium Oxide
2Mg + O2 → 2MgO
NOTE: This Magnesium oxide is basic in nature, it
turns red litmus paper blue
4. Reaction of metal with Air
Magnesium + Oxygen →Magnesium Oxide
• Magnesium does not react with oxygen at room
temperature but on heating, magnesium burns in
air with intense light and heat to form magnesium
oxide
5. Reaction of metal with Air
Other Examples :
• Copper+ Oxygen → Copper oxide
2Cu + O2 → 2CuO
Aluminium + Oxygen → Aluminium oxide
4Al + 3O2 → 2Al2O3
Heated Copper Black Copper Oxide
6. Reaction of metal with Air
• Different metals show different reactivity towards O2.
Sodium and Potassium are the most
reactive metals
They catch fire if kept in open Air
So
They are kept immersed in kerosene.
Different metals show different
reactivity towards O2.
8. Reaction of metal with Air
Iron does not burn even on strong
heating, but iron filings burn
vigorously when sprinkled in the
flame of the burner
3Fe + 2O2 heat → Fe3O4
9. Amphoteric Oxides
• Metal oxides which react with both acids as
well as bases to produce salts and water are
called amphoteric oxides.
Examples :
Al2O3 + 6HCl → 2AlCl3 + H2O
Al2O3 + 2NaOH → 2NaAlO2 + H2O
Sodium Aluminate
Note:1.The copper oxide can then react with the hydrogen gas to form the copper metal and water.
2. Copper is least reactive. It does not burn, but on heating, the hot metal is coated with a black coloured layer of copper oxide
3. Aluminium develops a thin oxide layer when exposed to air
