3. REACTIVITY SERIES OF METALS
The reactivity series is an ordering
of metals from most reactive to
least reactive. The reactivity series is
also known as the activity series of
metals.
Potassium is at the top of the series
and hence is most reactive. Platinum is
at the bottom of the series and hence
is least reactive.
The series is based
on empirical data on
the ability of
a metal to displace
hydrogen gas from
water and acid.
4. REACTIVITY SERIES OF METALS
In the reactivity series, copper,platinum,
gold and silver are at the bottom and
hence are least reactive. These metals
are known as noble metals. Potassium
,sodium,calcium and magnesium are at
the top and hence are most
reactive.They are also called alkali
metals

METALS REACT WITH WATER AND PRODUCE
METAL HYDROXIDE AND HYDROGEN GAS. IT
REACTS WITH HOT WATER TO FORM
MAGNESIUM HYDROXIDE AND HYDROGEN. IT
ALSO STARTS FLOATING DUE TO THE
BUBBLES OF HYDROGEN GAS STICKING TO
ITS SURFACE. METALS LIKE ALUMINIUM,
IRON AND ZINC DO NOT REACT EITHER
WITH HOT WATER OR COLD WATER.

with water though they may be very
reactive in air .Such non metals are
stored in water
Equation:
Sulphur+ Water -> No Reaction
For example , Phosphorus is a very
reactive non metal . It catches fire if
exposed to air .To prevent this contact
phosphorus is stored in water .
