Social Identity And Career Choice Essay
TO WHAT EXTENT DOES SOCIAL IDENTITY DETERMINE JOB CHOICE
The literature review focuses on the collection of secondary data on the research topic, which is the
extent to which social identity determines job choice. The literature review is conducted under three
major themes, which act as the pivotal basis for constructing theoretical meaning to the larger research
problem.
The Social Identity Theory
Studies on social identity have been dated back to centuries. According to Heckman (2006) the reason
social identity studies remain very important to academicians and professionals is for the fact that all
people are social being and that at every point in time, it is important to find the impact of the social
system on an individual. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In most of these literatures, factor analysis has been used with emphasis on non pecuniary identity
payoffs (Wolfe and Haveman, 2003). The bowl of contention has however often been factors that most
align with social identity, where two major factors namely career orientation and social orientation has
been debated. Stets and Burke (2000) noted that career orientation factors are those social identity
variables that makes a person becomes concerned about career outcomes that match well with their
social beliefs, principles and expectations. For such people whose emphasis is on career orientation,
they would want the career choices they are making to give them the fullest assurance of protecting
their social identities and satisfying their social ambitions (Hoff and Priyanka, 2006). There is another
school of thought who have emphasised on social orientation in the search for a model for career
choice and identity. From the perspective of these reviewers, social identity is stronger than career
expectations and so at any point while entering a career, a person would look at his personal ability for
his social status to fit into the career that is being pursued, rather than want the career to fit social
ability (Wolfe and Haveman, 2003). But quite interestingly, both sides of the argument approached
from career orientation and social orientation end up with

Accordingly, banking regulators assessed minimum values for each of these key measures. At 2007,
adequately capitalized (i.e., minimum) levels were 4% for the Tier 1 capital ratio, 8% for the total
capital ratio, and 3% for the leverage ratio; well capitalized levels were 6% for Tier 1 capital, 10% for
total capital, and 5% for leverage. Well capitalized banks qualified for, among other things, lower
premiums assessed by the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC). Undercapitalized banks
(e.g., below the 8% minimum required total capital) received a warning from the FDIC; continued
violation of capital requirements triggered further regulatory costs, including intervention or (in the
extreme) takeover by government regulators.
2、(2) Using Citigroup as an example, estimate the major calculations underlying its 2007 Tier 1
Capital ratio.

3、Describe the relevant provisions of fair value accounting under SFAS 157(ASC 820). What does a
measure like net income mean as a firm moves towards increasing use of fair value accounting (as
opposed to historical cost of assets)? The changing nature of business from cost bases assets and
liabilities to more market oriented assets and liabilities drove the move towards increasing use of fair
value accounting. Under the momentum, a measure like net income

Personification In Tale Of Two Cities
A Tale of Two Cities, by Charles Dickens, narrates the frustrations of the common people toward
Foulon, a French magistrate. The people rejoice when Foulon is imprisoned since he treated them
awfully. The nature of the French Revolution is the common people s elation at the downfall of the
aristocracy. Dickens utilizes personification, motif, and symbolism to describe the relationship
between the common people and Foulon.
The neighborhood of the common people, Saint Antoine, is personified to show the universal feelings
of rage the peasants feel toward the aristocracy. In the beginning, Saint Antoine is portrayed as just a
physical place, but when Foulon is mentioned, it assumes the characteristics of a man. Foulon is an
indifferent, awful man, who stood by and watched the commoners suffer, and mocked them by saying
they should, eat grass. By personifying an entire neighborhood, Dickens illustrates how Foulon
outraged the whole population, not just a fraction of the people. Every commoner has a personal
vendetta and anger for the French nobility, and thus Saint Antoine is portrayed as one entity. The
peasants hold an intense rage toward Foulon, who would make all of their lives insufferable. Foulon is
not just attacked by a few commoners, he is attacked by the single entity of Saint Antoine.
Grass serves as a powerful motif that reflects the vengeance of the peasants. The French aristocrat
Foulon told the starving people they might eat grass. He has no regard for the

The Nation State Is Dead
The Nation State is dead, long live the TNC . Critically assess the changing relationships between
TNC s and nation states.
Introduction
The inevitable growth of globalisation over the past few decades has gradually created the occurrence
we now know as the Trans national Corporation (TNCs) . This essay will aim to the highlight and
explain the situation in which nation states are continually being reformed by these TNCs.
Globalisation amp; the Role of Technology
Globalisation is the process of allowing goods, financial and investments markets to operate across
national borders due to deregulation, improved communications, infrastructure and technology.

An example of a comparison would be Ghana amp; the UK.
Ghana finds it very difficult to implement its fiscal policy as it does not have an appropriate
infrastructure for income tax analysis and collection. Most of the population work in an unofficial
industry which means they are paid in cash, this in turn means the government cannot keep accurate
records of the citizens and therefore cannot extract the right amount of income tax from the people
when implementing fiscal policy. This means the policy will be less effective. 6.
[Ghana Revenue Authority. (2011).]
On the other hand, the well built infrastructure in the UK allows for the government to accurately
identify and monitor the income of citizens allowing the government to collect the right amount of
taxes when altering fiscal policy. Nation states must also aim to provide public goods which cannot be
provided or allocated fairly through the market mechanism. These include physical and human
infrastructure such as roads, airports, harbours and education, laws and regulations. Those are the
performance goals of the state. Other objectives include locally rooted technology, to maintain
indigenous headquarters and to attract and retain business from TNCs. They will also aim to gain a
fair level of taxes from TNCs whilst still keeping them in the country and developing a highly skilled,
higly earninging and flexible labour force.

The Conservative Heart Analysis
Arthur Brooks book The Conservative Heart How to Build a Fairer, Happier and More Prosperous
America represents a challenge to the established view of Conservatives and Republicans regarding
America s social issues. Many Americans feel caught between two dispiriting political choices:
ineffective compassion on one hand and heartless pragmatism on the other. While
Democrats/Progressives have always provided this ongoing narrative of party who were once the
champions of the underprivileged; collapsed in the 2016 elections. The Progressive message was
clearly understood as identity politics not the champions of the underdog as promised. However,
Conservatives who can provide the better solutions to poverty were tagged with a variety of labels,
such as non compassionate or out of touch. Conservatives have been notoriously marked as the
country club concerned about their own wealth preservation. Unfortunately, until the 2016 election,
conservatives failed to message their solutions to America s poverty. I personally felt that the author
spent an exceeding amount of time discussing and outlining the Doe Fund and its impact. I felt that the
author was idealistic at best in putting forward a reasonable ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Gloria Steinem Analysis
The picture of Gloria Steinem and Dorothy Pitman show elements of women equality, solidarity and
unity. The picture shows two women with a serious look and making eye contact with the camera, this
shows alludes to a fight of women rights. In the picture both women are holding a fist in the air, this
signifies strength and solidarity. The third essential element highlighted is the filter of the picture, the
filter being black and white shows unity as human beings and every race. The picture represents three
main topics which are women rights, strength and unity
The first important detail of the Gloria Steinem picture is the one that stands out the most, the two
women. This iconic photograph is of both Gloria Steinem and Dorothy Pitman Hughes with their fist
in the air while staring into the camera. Gloria Steinem and Dorothy Pitman were both feminist
activist so seeing both in this photograph portrays them as standing up for women s rights and
equality. Around when Gloria began attempting to make an impact towards feminism was around the
1960s. This was a time where women were not seen as equal to men or had as many opportunities.
There was an expectation of women that they were to be stay at home mothers and take care of their
children and husband as shown in this article about women barriers in the 60s A woman was expected
to follow one path: to marry in her early 20s, start a family quickly, and devote her life to homemaking

Rhetorical Analysis Of Abraham Lincoln s Second Inaugural...

Professor Lara Chapman
Rhetorical Communication: A Theory of Civil Discourse
July 7th, 2015
Rhetorical Discourse in Two Distinct Pieces of Work; Abraham Lincoln s Second Inaugural Address
Emily Dickinson s Success is Counted Sweetest Rhetoric is often denoted to as the art of persuasion.
A set of linguistic traits and semantics used to evoke emotional responses from its intended audience,
opening the floor for unanticipated influence by said audience. It would be an atrocity to ignore the
efforts behind this simple yet powerful manipulation. This is referred to as rhetorical discourse.
Essentially, there are six characteristics of rhetorical discourse, these characteristics being; rhetoric is
planned, adapted to an audience, shaped by human motives, responsive to a situation, seeks
persuasion, and is concerned with contingent issues (Herrick 8). Further, each of the characteristics
lends itself to support the social functions of rhetoric; testing ideas, assisting advocacy, distributing
power, unearthing facts, shaping knowledge, and building communities (Herrick 15). It is with these
sentiments in which one compares the rhetorical discourse used in both former President Abraham
Lincoln s Second Inaugural address, and Emily Dickinson s Success is Counted Sweetest. Here the
characteristics of rhetorical discourse will be used as a guide for the differences in these two pieces of
work. Though both are essentially about the civil war, they share great

Driving Under The Influence Of Alcohol
Driving under the influence of alcohol not only presents a danger to the driver, but also to every other
motorist or pedestrian near the roadway. Being intoxicated impairs ones judgment, vision and reaction
time, all of which is critical when operating any motor vehicle. Motor vehicle accidents are the
leading cause of death for Americans aged 6 27 and alcohol is a big factor to those numbers (jstor).
Every 20 minutes, someone will die in an alcohol related traffic accident. Most people think it could
never happen to them but experts estimate that everyone has at least a 40% chance of being in a crash
that involves alcohol use sometime in their life. According to a survey by Mothers Against Drunk
Driving, drunken driving is the number 1 highway safety problem. Some believe that better education,
more police and higher penalties, the number of alcohol related deaths and accidents can be
reduced(madd).
Ever since the 1980s, the number of alcohol related injuries and fatalities on the roads have gone
down significantly. Yet, drunk driving is still one of the main causes of death and serious injury.
Between 93 and 96 , injuries in drunk driving accidents had begun to come up again. But in 1997
however, this reversed and there was another decrease in the number of injuries and deaths (study).
The next year in 1997, there were approximately 540 fatalities and over 16,000 injuries involving
drivers with a BAC over the legal limit (study). The sad part is that over half of those

The Lack of Women s Sports Coverage
Can women s sports establish itself as a topic of on going media and journalism curiosity? Currently
TV stations do minimal coverage of women s sports, while newspapers and magazines do just a little
bit better. In a recent interview with Gary Webb, a sports writer for The Spectrum, he says that the
people have demonstrated that there is an audience that loves hearing about women athletes. After all,
they are somebody s kids, sisters, and moms . I learned that these sports writers love to cover women s

In 1926, Gertrude Elderly became the first woman to swim The English Channel freestyle. Five other
men had done that before her, but Gertrude broke the record of swimming the 35 miles in 14 hours
and 31 minutes, two hours less than that of the record holder. The state of New York had a celebration
for her accomplishment. Can you imagine what the media and journalism coverage would have been
like for Gertrude? If that same instance were to happen today, I would imagine that journalists and
sports casters wouldn t be too interested because it was only the English Channel , and people today
are swimming across oceans.
As you can see, women s sports have been around for sometime and are continually increasing in
popularity. As for the coverage of these sports, something needs to be done. In 1993, 94 percent of
men s sports got the attention, women s sports five percent, and gender neutral one percent (1A+). In
depth coverge of organized women s sports such as golf, tennis, running, and basketball was minimal.
Production quality camera work, and editing in women s NCAA basketball games have improved, but
production quality is uneven and behind that of men s games. Pre game, half time, and post game
shows seem to be longer and better quality in men s games. Half time shows of women s games are
used to build audience interest in the upcoming men s games, rather than focusing on statistics, or
strategies related to the women s

wondering what is above the world so high (Gardner 98). These people study and map the little
twinkling stars in order to get a better meaning of them; they are astronomers. Great astronomers like

his work, he would go back to Hubble and give him the results (Overbye 22). This shows how devoted
he was to his research, even if he was unable to handle the job due to old age he compromised. All of
Hubble s work and Sandage work was done on the 100 in telescope, yet Hubble was still able to find

The Myth Of Albert Einstein
With a name synonymous to genius, Albert Einstein is undoubtedly one of the most influential men in
modern physics and philosophy of science. Who exactly is Albert Einstein? Born in the German
Empire in 1879, Albert Einstein was not thought initially by his peers to be anything special. There is
a lot of myth surrounding Einstein s schooling with statements like Einstein failed math or Einstein
did bad in school , but these were simply myths and not much more. Einstein did extremely well in
school and did amazing in mathematics specifically (having mastered calculus on his own at age 15).
The issue was that Einstein had a tendency to skip class and go off on his own doing personal research
and discovery. It was in this erratic method of his that caused colleagues and employers to avoid his
company and led to the developed opinion that Einstein was not destined for a life of research and
discovery. Although Einstein seeked out a position in the sciences, nobody would take him on as an
assistant nor a colleague which ultimately led to him becoming a worker at the Swiss patent office.
The prospect of Einstein ever entering into the academic stream looked grim. He had derailed his
education and reputation. He was disregarded in the scientific community for his poor work ethic and
failure to comply with traditional scientific method. However, in 1905 at the age of 26, Einstein went
on to publish four papers that changed his academic merit entirely. March saw Einstein s

Special Education Inclusion
Parents never want to hear that their child has a life altering disability that will require additional
assistance with special services. Roughly thirteen percent of public school students are receiving
special education services. Barbara Boroson, a Scholastic author on Autism Spectrum Disorder, asks
the special education inclusion population, How has education evolved from exclusion to inclusion
(Boroson, 2017). The issues with special education inclusion have been going unnoticed for many
years and now is the time for a change. Special education inclusion is an issue because it bears against
social and educational values. People all around the world have tried to fix these issues, but their
attempts have been unsuccessful. They have tried making amendments to include special needs
students in general classrooms. They have also tried to create ways to individualize criteria for each
student. These attempted solutions have not created a final answer but led us to find the perfect way to
solve inclusion s problem.
The problem with special education inclusion is involved in the amount of education each student is
receiving. Putting students with special needs into a general education classroom is minimizing how
much they are actually learning. Distractions that come with special needs kids are not allowing other
students to fully participate and listen in class. Teachers can only do so much with what their school
districts allow, which leads to another problem.

The first view concerns the authoritarian governments who see that by achieving conformity and
sameness, they succeed to achieve happiness, stability and consequently utopia. The second view
concerns the dystopian protagonists, Bernard Marx, John the Savage and Jonas, who see that by losing
individuality, identity, freedom, love and family in return for unreal false happiness and superficial
stability, the people lost their humanity and live in a dystopia. In Brave New World, Mustafa Mond
confirms the first view of the authorities:
The world s stable now. People are happy; they get what they want, and they never want what they can

ignorant of passion and old age; they re plagued with no mothers or fathers; they ve got no wives, or
children, or lovers to feel strongly about; they re so conditioned that they practically can t help
behaving as they ought to behave (Huxley, Brave 183).

basic human qualities, so at the end of the novel he expresses his dissatisfaction and anger by

American Born Chinese Identity
All sentient beings have an acquired cultural identity and an innate racial identity; in the state of being
the other in a society that oppresses minorities, one can have a feeling of being displaced and alone,
discouraged and even ashamed. American Born Chinese by Gene Luen Yang depicts a dissatisfied
American born Chinese tween who tries to grapple with living in a community that is largely not of
his ethnicity. It s easy to become anything you wish . . . so long as you re willing to forfeit your soul,
(Yang 29) says a wise Chinese herbalist s wife at her store calculating bills on an abacus to Jin Wang,

that concept with placing a set of truly round characters in the story who evoke emotion. That is
needed. As the three excellent and well written sub stories within the novel come to a close, a
simplistic idea sprouts from Yang s writing and can be seen as this: be proud of who you are. Of
course, this may seem to be an easy and basic solution to Jin s issue at hand, but the idea of
individualism and being proud of one s own sense of self could be an issue concerning with the
concept of intersectionality. In Yang s tale, Jin must not only be proud of his Chinese ethnicity, but his

For example, buttermilk results from the souring of low fat milk by lactic acid. The flavor is due to
substances such as diacetyl and acetaldehyde, which are produced by species of Streptococcus,

consistency is yogurt. Two bacteria, Streptococcus thermophilus and Lactobacillus bulgaricus, are
essential to its production. After the milk has been heated to achieve evaporation, the bacteria are

The Influence Of The American Soldiers During World War II
Who would have ever thought a small amount of rice with raw fish on top of it would become so
popular across the world? Sushi s fame jumped an ocean across and became popular in the USA.
Many factors contributed to its popularization and has helped make its place in the American cuisine.
As time passed by, the simple creations of sushi evolved to complicated combinations and eye
catching presentations today. This change was welcomed because it gave a new perspective of the
dish, giving it a new face.
One of the factors that made sushi popular was the influence of the American soldiers. After World
War II (WWII), American soldiers who were led by General Douglas MacArthur occupied Japan.
During the war, sushi shops were forced to close due to rationing. There were not enough rice to
reopen the shops after the war. The American forces created a program where people would be the
ones to bring their own rice to the shop if they wanted sushi. The sushi chef would then use the rice
brought by the customers to make sushi for them. This allowed for the shops to reopen and function.
This popularized sushi outside of Tokyo (sushi was mainly sold in the city). One can say, sushi was
saved by the American forces. If the American forces had not stepped in and created the program to
help revive the sushi shops, no doubt would there be sushi shops open today. Sushi would not have
had the chance to spread outside of Tokyo.
Another factor is The Great Kanto Earthquake of 1923. This was a

performing an autopsy, first discovered infective endocarditis in 1674 (Brusch, 2015). Since the first
findings documented were after death, there was still much research to do in this area of
cardiovascular science. William Olser was the first person to compile an in depth explanation of
infective endocarditis in English in the year of 1885. Furthermore, in 1966, the first modern times
symposium of infective endocarditis was developed as a series of journal articles by authors Lerner
and Weinstein, which was published in the New England Journal of Medicine (Brusch, 2015).
Although the understanding and research of this disease is well understood ... Show more content on

In other words, would it be useful to diagnose infective endocarditis with the help of advanced
imaging tools to closely examine how the tissues and organs appear? Patients that were gram positive
for certain bacteria were included in the study, and there were 72 people that underwent the F FDG
PET/CT. Results were evaluated and determined by nuclear medicine physicians. Overall, the study
yielded that the sensitivity for diagnosing those with infective endocarditis using F FDG PET/CT was
low; it was only 39%. Due to the low sensitivity, the value of using F FDG PET/CT as diagnostic
criteria for those with infective endocarditis was deemed not satisfactory (Kouijzer et al., 2013). Still,
another study took a deeper look into ways of diagnosing infective endocarditis.
An additional study investigated the usefulness of histopathological findings in the diagnosis of
infective endocarditis. Histopathology is the study of tissues viewed under a microscope to determine
manifestations of disease. In countries outside of the United States, histopathological findings are the
gold standard in confirming infective endocarditis in humans. Researchers intended to challenge this
idea and see if histopathological findings really are the best form of diagnosing infective endocarditis,
and if those findings can stand by

Religion And The Nature Of God
The Nature of God is a category that always comes into question in many conversations or debates I
have seen, and listened to and participated in, this is why I have chosen this topic. Some religions
focus on subjective experience of the religious individual while others consider activities of the
religious community to be most important.by being willing to learn and engage into the very nature of
God in different religions is an interesting topic on its own, and can be very educational as well as
informational. I will be looking at this particular category from a Christian point of this goal is to
investigate whether the view is sufficient evidence to prove that world religions are complementary
and by analyzing what religion belief is about which is a perception of someone religion and how
major some culture is are evolved.
The Nature of God tells the story in different religions, although I think this would be the significance
and play an important role in a deciding factor for someone looking into making a decision to believe
in a particular religion. By basing on how religion is and being able to believing in a religion I would
ask what are the differences in the nature of God in different religions and by studying throughout the
weeks help us in identifying key features in the Nature of God in many different religions, some have
similarities while others are completely different. For example , the similarities in Jainism, Buddhism,
and Confucianism is that there

Avioral Model Of The MARS Model
MARS model is a predictive behavioural model that aims at analyzing how four major factors drive
the human behaviour and the way that behaviour gets translated into results. In other words, a
combination of these four factors decides or predicts human behaviour and performance. MARS
stands for Motivation, Ability, Role Perceptions and Situational Factors. MARS model takes into
account the fact that both internal as well as external factors play a decisive role in molding one s
behaviours and performance. Motivation, ability and role perceptions are factors that are under control
of an individual and hence can be viewed as internal factors motivation and ability are either innate, or
acquired or learnt, and role perceptions denote the idea and image one has of one s role and the way he
perceives or understands it. On the contrary, situational factors are external ... Show more content on

Employee behaviours are the performance enabling behaviours, i.e. those particular behaviours that
lead an individual to demonstrate a stellar or an average or an inferior performance. As per MARS
model, motivation, abilities, role perceptions and situational factors act together in synergy to result in
a particular type of behaviour and performance. It is crucial to note that absence of any of these factors
will not result in the expected performance despite the influence of other factors. Say, for example, an
employee has enough motivation to perform his job nicely, a clear understanding of his role
expectations and positive or empowering situational factors, but is deficient in abilities, i.e.
competencies needed to perform the job efficiently. In such a situation, the employee won t be able to
deliver the expected level of performance. Similarly, an individual with adequate motivation, abilities
and facilitating situational factors, will fail to be a super performer if he doesn t have the correct role

Edgar Allan Poe s Rabies
Edgar Allen Poe was a great poet that lived a rough life. Poe had lost many of his loved ones
throughout his life and many were due to tuberculosis. Poe was very poor when he lived by himself
and became an alcoholic. He had died when he was 40 years old and people believe that it was due to
alcoholism or rabies. I believe that Poe had died of Rabies/Encephalitis because he had all of the
symptoms of rabies and it was confirmed by doctors. It had been confirmed by doctors that Poe had
died from encephalitic rabies. Poe had all of the features of encephalitis rabies said Dr. Henry Wilde .
This quote means that if a doctor had confirmed that Poe had all of the symptoms of rabies, then he
most likely died from it. According to Dr. Moran, one of its senior physicians diagnosed Poe s
condition as encephalitis. This means that Poe could have died from encephalitic rabies. Dr. Benitez
said that he does not admit that the lack of bite or scratch is a weakness in his theory that Edgar Allen
Poe may have died of rabies. I think that Dr. Benitez is saying that there is a possibility that Poe could
have died from encephalitic rabies. I believe that if doctors have confirmed that Poe had died from

Eddie Returns After A Six Year Absence
Eddie , a big wave competition, took place at Waimea Beach for the first time in six years this past
weekend. The waves that are critical to Big Wave surfing reached a record height as many of them
reached 60 feet this year. In order for a competition to be considered an Eddie , the waves must be
over 40 feet high and be sustainable all day. This year, El Nino played a big part to the height of these
waves as the weather pattern fueled the water and the creation of them.
Big Wave surfing has always drawn in a big crowd to the beaches of Hawaii in the winter. A record
number of people lined the beach to watch 28 elite and professional surfers take on the monster waves
off the bay. It was estimated that over 25,000 people came to the beach in awe of the getting the

William Blake s The Lamb And The Tyger
In 18th Century Britain, the poets of what became known as the Romantic Period sought to
communicate truth in a world where the lofty ideals of The Enlightenment were evaporating to reveal
the harsh realities of a society that favored material progress over spiritual progress. In so doing, these
poets embraced and drew inspiration from the beauties and mysteries of nature in attempts to draw
parallels between the truths they found there and the inner experience of Mankind. Counted among the
several writers who recorded their artistic and emotional responses to the natural world, William Blake
explores the concept of life s dualities and how this concept applied to life in 18th Century Britain, as
well as to the relationship between the body and spirit, in his most popular works, Songs of Innocence
and of Experience: Showing the Two Contrary States of the Human Soul (1794). Two standout poems,
The Lamb and The Tyger, respectively taken from Songs of Innocence and Songs of Experience,
demonstrate Blake s meditation on how innocence and experience in life create a binary and
complementary relationship that is observable in our outer world as well as in our inner being.
As one of the titles in his Songs of Innocence, William Blake chooses the lamb, naturally gentle and
docile, as a representative of the concept of innocence. In Blake s poem, a child shepherd addresses
the lamb, identifying early its clothing of delight, and its tender voice/Making all the vales rejoice

Throughout the 1600s to 1700s, the American colonies expanded and developed very quickly despite
societal tension with the Native Americans, politics, economics, and religion. During these times,
tension led many times to conflict. Both Bacon s Rebellion of 1676 and the Salem witchcraft trials of
1692 reflected the growing gap between rich and poor, but were fueled by two different scapegoats
respectively, the Indians and religious superstition. Nathaniel Bacon and his followers were poor,
landless frontiersmen searching for land in Virginia where there were already many plantations.
Frustrated, they were angry that the Virginia s Governor William Berkeley refused to seek revenge on

Thomas And Two Different Jesus
Joel Brizzee 10/17/14 REL 321/ Shoemaker Luke, Thomas and Two Different Jesus The juxtaposition
of any two writings is a formidable task. The content of each, even if they seem alike, is a small part in
determining similarities and differences. One must also look at the styles, authors, themes, supposed
audiences and authorial intent. This front becomes even more difficult while exegeting and
deciphering ancient texts because of how far removed the writings are from modern understanding
and scholarship. It is also further complicated when one lacks the factual knowledge of which piece
was written first and/or if both texts were using a third source at the time of their creation. These
difficulties find their apex at the study of Christian history and all of its subsequent writings. In
particular, the gospels according to Thomas and Luke, while they have similarities and at times
identical phraseology are vastly different when one considers their theological understandings,
themes, format and style. Firstly, format and style will be considered. This is one of the biggest
differences between the two gospels. The format of Luke s gospel and Thomas are clearly different.
Luke, as much as it is technically a narrative, has elements which can be argued that it is an epistle as
well. For example, in his opening verses, Luke is addressing this letter to Theophilus. Not only is this
different than Thomas , which lacks this style, but also unique to Luke as a gospel itself.

Converse College Essay
Converse College is a private college that realized that high tuitions were creating serious problems
for current and potential students to enroll in private colleges. Therefore, Converse was given the task
of motivating middle class students to have the experience of studying in private schools.

PROS:
Being pioneers in this new business model is an attractive opportunity to stand out from the crowd as
the steady increase in the tuitions in higher educations is a national concern. Therefore, more students
and prospects may be interested in Converse College.

PROS:
Certainly, when frizzing student s tuition, they and their families would be sure that their tuition would
not face annual increases.
In addition, this proposal would be attractive to students and cause increased enrollment of middle
class students.
CONS:
A disadvantage is that this proposal is a short term solution to a long term problem. Since the school
has increases in operating costs every year. Therefore, the college has to generate additional profits to
offset these costs.
In addition, future generations would suffer from even higher fees because operating costs would still
require payment. Therefore the cycle of annual tuition increases would start again but now in a more
accelerated manner.
CHOICE 3: Provide students with Loan Repayment Program (LRP), which guarantees that any
student without employment after college would have her loans covered by an insurance policy.
PROS:
This program would alleviate the financial burden for graduate students who have difficulty finding

Casti Connubai On Christian Marriage
1. Christ dignified chaste wedlock before the coming of Christ by establishing it as a form of
companionship between two people who will come together to have children. He designed this union
to be the foundation of society. Christ further dignified wedlock by taking the Church as His bride.
2. In Casti Connubii on Christian Marriage, Pope Pius XI lists two things men must do to obtain the
fruits of the sacrament of matrimony. The first is to be enlightened and fully understand Christ s true
doctrine regarding matrimony itself. The second is to still remain pure in their thoughts and actions in
order to obtain true peace and happiness for themselves and for their families .
3. a. The Pope sees a need to speak about the sanctity of marriage at this time because he saw that the
people of his day were beginning to forget the importance of a holy marriage. It especially applies
today with the leniency of how human intimacy is treated. Knowing this, the Pope spoke of it to
remind people the importance of a Holy Christian marriage. b. We know the Pope is teaching
infallibly here because he is re explaining a teaching already in practice. He doesn t add anything to
the core of the teaching, which is to avoid temptation in the context of human intimacy, by shows
specifically the temptations presented at that time in which the faithful should avoid. We can further
confirm that the Pope speaks infallibly because all teachings of the Pope come from God, and there
cannot be a fallible teaching from God Himself.
5. a. The point of Arcanum Divinae , as explained by Pope Pius XI, was to concentrate of matrimony
as a divine institution and it s sacramental and perpetual stability. He used this Encyclical specifically
as a reference and foundation for his own Encyclical. The only difference being that Arcanum Divinae
speaks of the spiritual aspects of the sacrament while the Casti Connubii speaks of both the
sacramental and the earthly systems and their effect on the lives of men. b. Man cannot change the
laws that strengthen marriage because such laws were not created by man. It is a fundamental doctrine
that the institution of matrimony and its laws were written by God. Since God is infallible, and

Vaccines And Its Effects On Children
Congratulations, you vaccinated your child to protect them, you should feel proud, however, now they
are experiencing trouble breathing. Could they be experiencing adverse reactions from the vaccines?
Today, there are many vaccines, they are in such high demand that even a simple flu has a vaccine.
Vaccines are created to protect us. The main function of vaccines it to build our immune system and
fight against many bacterias. However, adverse reactions have become severe over the last couple of
years, leaving some parents with no child. Therefore, parents shouldn t be punished for not
vaccinating their children because, vaccines can cause many adverse reactions and death in children.
Vaccines are a social norm, we are taught that once your child is born they need to get vaccinated. It is
only natural for parents to want to protect their child. So why wouldn t we want to vaccinate and
protect our child? But, what if these shots that are supposed to protect us hurt your child? Children are
facing adverse reactions all over the world. According to the CDC, in the 2015 adverse reactions data
file concludes that from September 2 through October 5 there has already been 23991 adverse
reactions reported. However, some of these reported cases can be mild, that number is still extremely
high. Any child can receive an adverse reaction. Every vaccine has side effects as well. Robert

People Have On Kids Using Electronics
There are many different thoughts that people have on kids using electronics. People either don t mind
their kids using things like phones or tablets, but there is also a very large amount of people that
disagree and limit the use of electronics for their kids. There are many different reasons why people
feel the way they do. Both sides make very valid points to support their side, but I see nothing wrong
with kids using electronics in their lives. There are going to be many different times when kids are
going to need to use electronic devises in their life, so they should learn the different skills while they
are young.
There are many different views on this topic and one of the biggest reasons why parents don t want
their kids using electronics is because they want their kids to be playing and be active. Whether kids
are playing inside building forts or outside playing hide and go seek, parents want to see their kids
running around and having fun. They want to see their kids be creative and come up with different
things they can do to keep themselves occupied just like they did when they were kids! Children six to
eleven years old obesity rates in 1980 were seven percent and have risen to eighteen percent in 2012

year. One way to help lower the obesity rate would be by making sure kids are doing activities that
involve physical activity. Kids should be playing outside

Analysis Of Thomas Gainsborough s Portrait Of Grace...
Thomas Gainsborough presents a fabulous portrait of Grace Dalrymple Elliott. This is a full length
painting believed to be commissioned by her lover, Earl of Cholomondeley in 1777 (Major, 2016).
This portrait goes beyond a simple painting of a mistress. Rather, Gainsborough s portrait of Grace is
a study of striking and noble beauty versus a celebration of female sexuality as a commodity.
Gainsborough accomplished this art piece by using several uncommon practices in his portrait making
techniques. The first is using a six foot handle brush working directly on the canvas to give himself a
better viewpoint of his work. Second, Gainsborough often painted by candlelight, attempting to
simulate the soft lighting in which the painting would be viewed (Information for Parents, n.d.).
Gainsborough was very successful in creating an atmospheric mood and unity between the
backgrounds and figures in his paintings. He displayed great skill in the use of color repetitions and
contrasts, fluid brushstrokes, and highlighting. Grace, in her full length portrait, appears both self
confident and majestic as she leans forward on her left foot. She is wearing a simple, snug ribbon
choker around her throat that graciously drapes down the front of her chest where she clasps the train
of her gown in a gesture of vulnerability. Her other jewelry is a pair of small stud gold earrings and a
layered bracelet of strung pearls on both wrists adds a unique touch to not over power or

Investigating The Biochemical Systems Evolved
By looking at the basic biochemistry most organisms share, we can start putting together how the
biochemical systems evolved. However, up until the eighties, scientists were still baffled by a chicken
and egg debate. All modern organisms require nucleic acids (DNA and RNA) to build proteins (Leslie
99), and the proteins are needed in the formation of nucleic acids. The mystery of which came first:
RNA or DNA was solved when a new property of RNA was discovered. There are some RNAs that
are capable of catalyzing chemical reactions. This means that RNA is capable of storing genetic
information, as well as cause chemical reactions vital for self replication. This breakthrough
tentatively solved the mystery of which came first: RNA or DNA. ... Show more content on

Analyzing ATP together with other molecular fossils, scientists have discovered that catalytic RNA
and molecular fossils are closely related to nucleic acids; suggesting that RNA was crucial to earth s
first life. This observations support the RNA world hypothesis, that earth s first life used RNA for
basic cellular process rather than the mix of proteins, DNA and RNA used by current organisms
(Lazcano et al. 283).
Genetics with inheritable evolutionary selection could have come into place with RNA servicing as a
self replicator, hence uniting the properties a replicator capable of inheriting information at the same
time having the ability to evolve (Leslie 100). Explaining how RNA molecules came about on the
basis of prebiotic chemistry is challenging but possible (Choudhary 655). Therefore, experiments have
illustrated that RNA can form self replicating molecules, and RNA has been applied successfully in
directed evolution experiments (Biebricher et al., 630). In addition, there are numerous potential traces
of RNA world present in modern cells. Several viruses use RNA as their genetic material; this proves
that RNA is capable of carrying genetic information. RNA can also reversely transcribed into DNA,
and the biological synthesis process leading to deoxynucleotides is founded on desoxylation of
ribonucleotides, showing that RNA preceded DNA. Additionally, RNA is a functional and structural

The Secret Labyrinth Of A Snail Shell By Robert Hughes Essay
The readings this week began to introduce basic ideas about urbanization and some general
information about famous sites in Barcelona. In the first chapter of Barcelona: the Great Enchantress ,
Robert Hughes described how he was first introduced to Barcelona and its rich culture. He painted a
very compelling picture of a city I now can t wait to visit one day. He began by introducing some
Barcelonan sites he visited such as, the Sagrada Família designed by Gaudí, the Pyreness mountain
range, and his friend Xavier Corberó s house, Can Cargol, located in Esplugües de Llobregat in
Southern Barcelona. I found it fascinating that winding catacombs had been dug underneath Can
Cargol for storage and possibly defense in the Roman times (Hughes 2004: 5). Hughes also suggested
that these caves might have reminded people of the secret labyrinth of a snail shell (Hughes 2004: 5)
which would explain how it got its Catalan name in which translates to house of the snail. He
described his experiences in the cave and one particular instance stood out to me; In one of the storage
rooms there was an old printing press that could have been used by a radicalist to promote anti Carlist
texts (Hughes 2004: 5). According to the Encyclopedia Britannica, the Carlist movement was a
political movement in Spain that attempted to change the government system from a more
conservative to a liberal style. It impressed me that this smaller town could have housed a place that
advocated for political change

Hip Hop And Hip Rap Music
The study of hip hop music has been cited well throughout its growth over time. The purpose of this
paper is intended to discuss hip hop culture and address cultural stereotypes associated with rap and
hip hop music, but also how its original lyrical intentions were forms of expression and art. It will
begin by guiding the reader through how it originated, its influence with the African Americans with
its subculture and popularity in urban areas, its styles of evolving, the introduction of hip hop and rap
to the public, the depiction it gave off with its criticisms from outsiders. An evaluation of hip hop
artists songs by Sugar Hill and the Gang, Run DMC, Queen Latifah, and N.W.A. Including lyrics from
the songs Rappers Delight , King of Rock , Latifah s Law , and Niggaz4Life . In the conclusion it
exposes how hip hop music is clearly for black Americans to express themselves freely and in fact did
not cause violence.
Hip hop cannot be understood by just examining how the artists might carry themselves or just their
lyrics alone. The uniting of hip hop in to society gave accommodations in an integrated generation of
young Americans and it changed the racial dynamics in the United States. Even though you might not
be born in the 70 s when hip hop was originated, it has become a part of our generation and has stuck
around ever since. This paper is written with the intentions to prove how the evolution of hip hop or
rap music has ultimately made America

Knowing Your Value, by Mika Brzezinski
Alexandra Holland
Knowing Your Value
Mine was a truly unconventional path, and I advise you not to walk it yourself (Brzezinski 9).
Knowing Your Value investigates the unconventional path Mika alludes to in this quote. After her
many years of experience in news casting and being fired from 60 Minutes, she saw her career
opportunities dwindling away. She mentions in the book how she was so desperate that she begged
MSNBC to give her a job, any job (and looking back she regrets her decision to do so). Although
MSNBC allowed her to have a job, it was not the kind of work she imagined herself doing, especially
with the strong skill set she gained over the years. It was predictable, it was good for the kids, and it
was great to get back in the game, but the work was boring (Brzezinski 13). Brzezinski, after only a
one year break from working, had to yet again climb her way to the top. While most of the time slots
she was given to fill were menial, every once in a while she filled in as a substitute for more sought
after roles. Until one day, there was a new opening at MSNBC for a three hour time slot (Brzezinski
15). Joe Scarborough saw something in Brzezinski and asked her to be a part of his new show, which
would potentially be a front runner to gain the position in that three hour slot. Although this was a
great opportunity there was a lot to think about in regards to if this new job would be a good fit not
only for Mika, but also for her family. Did I need

  • 2. Social Identity And Career Choice Essay TO WHAT EXTENT DOES SOCIAL IDENTITY DETERMINE JOB CHOICE The literature review focuses on the collection of secondary data on the research topic, which is the extent to which social identity determines job choice. The literature review is conducted under three major themes, which act as the pivotal basis for constructing theoretical meaning to the larger research problem. The Social Identity Theory Studies on social identity have been dated back to centuries. According to Heckman (2006) the reason social identity studies remain very important to academicians and professionals is for the fact that all people are social being and that at every point in time, it is important to find the impact of the social system on an individual. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In most of these literatures, factor analysis has been used with emphasis on non pecuniary identity payoffs (Wolfe and Haveman, 2003). The bowl of contention has however often been factors that most align with social identity, where two major factors namely career orientation and social orientation has been debated. Stets and Burke (2000) noted that career orientation factors are those social identity variables that makes a person becomes concerned about career outcomes that match well with their social beliefs, principles and expectations. For such people whose emphasis is on career orientation, they would want the career choices they are making to give them the fullest assurance of protecting their social identities and satisfying their social ambitions (Hoff and Priyanka, 2006). There is another school of thought who have emphasised on social orientation in the search for a model for career choice and identity. From the perspective of these reviewers, social identity is stronger than career expectations and so at any point while entering a career, a person would look at his personal ability for his social status to fit into the career that is being pursued, rather than want the career to fit social ability (Wolfe and Haveman, 2003). But quite interestingly, both sides of the argument approached from career orientation and social orientation end up with ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

At 2007, adequately capitalized (i.e., minimum) levels were 4% for the Tier 1 capital ratio, 8% for the total capital ratio, and 3% for the leverage ratio; well capitalized levels were 6% for Tier 1 capital, 10% for total capital, and 5% for leverage. Well capitalized banks qualified for, among other things, lower premiums assessed by the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC). Undercapitalized banks (e.g., below the 8% minimum required total capital) received a warning from the FDIC; continued violation of capital requirements triggered further regulatory costs, including intervention or (in the extreme) takeover by government regulators. 2、(2) Using Citigroup as an example, estimate the major calculations underlying its 2007 Tier 1 Capital ratio.

  • 5. Personification In Tale Of Two Cities A Tale of Two Cities, by Charles Dickens, narrates the frustrations of the common people toward Foulon, a French magistrate. The people rejoice when Foulon is imprisoned since he treated them awfully. The nature of the French Revolution is the common people s elation at the downfall of the aristocracy. Dickens utilizes personification, motif, and symbolism to describe the relationship between the common people and Foulon. The neighborhood of the common people, Saint Antoine, is personified to show the universal feelings of rage the peasants feel toward the aristocracy. In the beginning, Saint Antoine is portrayed as just a physical place, but when Foulon is mentioned, it assumes the characteristics of a man. Foulon is an indifferent, awful man, who stood by and watched the commoners suffer, and mocked them by saying they should, eat grass. By personifying an entire neighborhood, Dickens illustrates how Foulon outraged the whole population, not just a fraction of the people. Every commoner has a personal vendetta and anger for the French nobility, and thus Saint Antoine is portrayed as one entity. The peasants hold an intense rage toward Foulon, who would make all of their lives insufferable. Foulon is not just attacked by a few commoners, he is attacked by the single entity of Saint Antoine. Grass serves as a powerful motif that reflects the vengeance of the peasants. The French aristocrat Foulon told the starving people they might eat grass. He has no regard for the ... Introduction The inevitable growth of globalisation over the past few decades has gradually created the occurrence we now know as the Trans national Corporation (TNCs) . This essay will aim to the highlight and explain the situation in which nation states are continually being reformed by these TNCs. Globalisation amp; the Role of Technology Globalisation is the process of allowing goods, financial and investments markets to operate across national borders due to deregulation, improved communications, infrastructure and technology. Technology is the heart of globalisation. The evolution of technology ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... An example of a comparison would be Ghana amp; the UK. Ghana finds it very difficult to implement its fiscal policy as it does not have an appropriate infrastructure for income tax analysis and collection. Most of the population work in an unofficial industry which means they are paid in cash, this in turn means the government cannot keep accurate records of the citizens and therefore cannot extract the right amount of income tax from the people when implementing fiscal policy. This means the policy will be less effective. 6. [Ghana Revenue Authority. (2011).] On the other hand, the well built infrastructure in the UK allows for the government to accurately identify and monitor the income of citizens allowing the government to collect the right amount of taxes when altering fiscal policy. Nation states must also aim to provide public goods which cannot be provided or allocated fairly through the market mechanism. These include physical and human infrastructure such as roads, airports, harbours and education, laws and regulations. Those are the performance goals of the state. Other objectives include locally rooted technology, to maintain indigenous headquarters and to attract and retain business from TNCs. They will also aim to gain a fair level of taxes from TNCs whilst still keeping them in the country and developing a highly skilled, higly earninging and flexible labour force. ... • 7. The Conservative Heart Analysis Arthur Brooks book The Conservative Heart How to Build a Fairer, Happier and More Prosperous America represents a challenge to the established view of Conservatives and Republicans regarding America s social issues. Many Americans feel caught between two dispiriting political choices: ineffective compassion on one hand and heartless pragmatism on the other. While Democrats/Progressives have always provided this ongoing narrative of party who were once the champions of the underprivileged; collapsed in the 2016 elections. The Progressive message was clearly understood as identity politics not the champions of the underdog as promised. However, Conservatives who can provide the better solutions to poverty were tagged with a variety of labels, such as non compassionate or out of touch. Conservatives have been notoriously marked as the country club concerned about their own wealth preservation. Unfortunately, until the 2016 election, conservatives failed to message their solutions to America s poverty. The third essential element highlighted is the filter of the picture, the filter being black and white shows unity as human beings and every race. The picture represents three main topics which are women rights, strength and unity The first important detail of the Gloria Steinem picture is the one that stands out the most, the two women. Gloria Steinem and Dorothy Pitman were both feminist activist so seeing both in this photograph portrays them as standing up for women s rights and equality. Around when Gloria began attempting to make an impact towards feminism was around the 1960s. This was a time where women were not seen as equal to men or had as many opportunities. There was an expectation of women that they were to be stay at home mothers and take care of their children and husband as shown in this article about women barriers in the 60s A woman was expected to follow one path: to marry in her early 20s, start a family quickly, and devote her life to homemaking . • 9. Rhetorical Analysis Of Abraham Lincoln s Second Inaugural... Tiana Lanier Professor Lara Chapman Rhetorical Communication: A Theory of Civil Discourse July 7th, 2015 Rhetorical Discourse in Two Distinct Pieces of Work; Abraham Lincoln s Second Inaugural Address Emily Dickinson s Success is Counted Sweetest Rhetoric is often denoted to as the art of persuasion. A set of linguistic traits and semantics used to evoke emotional responses from its intended audience, opening the floor for unanticipated influence by said audience. It would be an atrocity to ignore the efforts behind this simple yet powerful manipulation. This is referred to as rhetorical discourse. Essentially, there are six characteristics of rhetorical discourse, these characteristics being; rhetoric is planned, adapted to an audience, shaped by human motives, responsive to a situation, seeks persuasion, and is concerned with contingent issues (Herrick 8). Further, each of the characteristics lends itself to support the social functions of rhetoric; testing ideas, assisting advocacy, distributing power, unearthing facts, shaping knowledge, and building communities (Herrick 15). It is with these sentiments in which one compares the rhetorical discourse used in both former President Abraham Lincoln s Second Inaugural address, and Emily Dickinson s Success is Counted Sweetest. Here the characteristics of rhetorical discourse will be used as a guide for the differences in these two pieces of work. Though both are essentially about the civil war, they share great ... Being intoxicated impairs ones judgment, vision and reaction time, all of which is critical when operating any motor vehicle. Motor vehicle accidents are the leading cause of death for Americans aged 6 27 and alcohol is a big factor to those numbers (jstor). Every 20 minutes, someone will die in an alcohol related traffic accident. Most people think it could never happen to them but experts estimate that everyone has at least a 40% chance of being in a crash that involves alcohol use sometime in their life. According to a survey by Mothers Against Drunk Driving, drunken driving is the number 1 highway safety problem. Some believe that better education, more police and higher penalties, the number of alcohol related deaths and accidents can be reduced(madd). Ever since the 1980s, the number of alcohol related injuries and fatalities on the roads have gone down significantly. Yet, drunk driving is still one of the main causes of death and serious injury. Between 93 and 96 , injuries in drunk driving accidents had begun to come up again. But in 1997 however, this reversed and there was another decrease in the number of injuries and deaths (study). Who exactly is Albert Einstein? Born in the German Empire in 1879, Albert Einstein was not thought initially by his peers to be anything special. There is a lot of myth surrounding Einstein s schooling with statements like Einstein failed math or Einstein did bad in school , but these were simply myths and not much more. Einstein did extremely well in school and did amazing in mathematics specifically (having mastered calculus on his own at age 15). The issue was that Einstein had a tendency to skip class and go off on his own doing personal research and discovery. It was in this erratic method of his that caused colleagues and employers to avoid his company and led to the developed opinion that Einstein was not destined for a life of research and discovery. Although Einstein seeked out a position in the sciences, nobody would take him on as an assistant nor a colleague which ultimately led to him becoming a worker at the Swiss patent office. The prospect of Einstein ever entering into the academic stream looked grim. He had derailed his education and reputation. The issues with special education inclusion have been going unnoticed for many years and now is the time for a change. Special education inclusion is an issue because it bears against social and educational values. People all around the world have tried to fix these issues, but their attempts have been unsuccessful. They have tried making amendments to include special needs students in general classrooms. They have also tried to create ways to individualize criteria for each student. These attempted solutions have not created a final answer but led us to find the perfect way to solve inclusion s problem. The problem with special education inclusion is involved in the amount of education each student is receiving. Putting students with special needs into a general education classroom is minimizing how much they are actually learning. Distractions that come with special needs kids are not allowing other students to fully participate and listen in class. Sushi s fame jumped an ocean across and became popular in the USA. Many factors contributed to its popularization and has helped make its place in the American cuisine. As time passed by, the simple creations of sushi evolved to complicated combinations and eye catching presentations today. This change was welcomed because it gave a new perspective of the dish, giving it a new face. One of the factors that made sushi popular was the influence of the American soldiers. After World War II (WWII), American soldiers who were led by General Douglas MacArthur occupied Japan. During the war, sushi shops were forced to close due to rationing. There were not enough rice to reopen the shops after the war. The American forces created a program where people would be the ones to bring their own rice to the shop if they wanted sushi. The sushi chef would then use the rice brought by the customers to make sushi for them. This allowed for the shops to reopen and function. This popularized sushi outside of Tokyo (sushi was mainly sold in the city). One can say, sushi was saved by the American forces. If the American forces had not stepped in and created the program to help revive the sushi shops, no doubt would there be sushi shops open today. Sushi would not have had the chance to spread outside of Tokyo. Another factor is The Great Kanto Earthquake of 1923. This was a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

William Blake s The Lamb And The Tyger In 18th Century Britain, the poets of what became known as the Romantic Period sought to communicate truth in a world where the lofty ideals of The Enlightenment were evaporating to reveal the harsh realities of a society that favored material progress over spiritual progress. In so doing, these poets embraced and drew inspiration from the beauties and mysteries of nature in attempts to draw parallels between the truths they found there and the inner experience of Mankind. Counted among the several writers who recorded their artistic and emotional responses to the natural world, William Blake explores the concept of life s dualities and how this concept applied to life in 18th Century Britain, as well as to the relationship between the body and spirit, in his most popular works, Songs of Innocence and of Experience: Showing the Two Contrary States of the Human Soul (1794). Two standout poems, The Lamb and The Tyger, respectively taken from Songs of Innocence and Songs of Experience, demonstrate Blake s meditation on how innocence and experience in life create a binary and complementary relationship that is observable in our outer world as well as in our inner being. The content of each, even if they seem alike, is a small part in determining similarities and differences. One must also look at the styles, authors, themes, supposed audiences and authorial intent. This front becomes even more difficult while exegeting and deciphering ancient texts because of how far removed the writings are from modern understanding and scholarship. It is also further complicated when one lacks the factual knowledge of which piece was written first and/or if both texts were using a third source at the time of their creation. These difficulties find their apex at the study of Christian history and all of its subsequent writings. In particular, the gospels according to Thomas and Luke, while they have similarities and at times identical phraseology are vastly different when one considers their theological understandings, themes, format and style. Firstly, format and style will be considered. This is one of the biggest differences between the two gospels. The format of Luke s gospel and Thomas are clearly different. Luke, as much as it is technically a narrative, has elements which can be argued that it is an epistle as well. For example, in his opening verses, Luke is addressing this letter to Theophilus. In addition, this proposal would be attractive to students and cause increased enrollment of middle class students. CONS: A disadvantage is that this proposal is a short term solution to a long term problem. Since the school has increases in operating costs every year. Therefore, the college has to generate additional profits to offset these costs. In addition, future generations would suffer from even higher fees because operating costs would still require payment. Therefore the cycle of annual tuition increases would start again but now in a more accelerated manner. • 31. Casti Connubai On Christian Marriage 1. Christ dignified chaste wedlock before the coming of Christ by establishing it as a form of companionship between two people who will come together to have children. He designed this union to be the foundation of society. Christ further dignified wedlock by taking the Church as His bride. 2. In Casti Connubii on Christian Marriage, Pope Pius XI lists two things men must do to obtain the fruits of the sacrament of matrimony. The first is to be enlightened and fully understand Christ s true doctrine regarding matrimony itself. The second is to still remain pure in their thoughts and actions in order to obtain true peace and happiness for themselves and for their families . 3. a. The Pope sees a need to speak about the sanctity of marriage at this time because he saw that the people of his day were beginning to forget the importance of a holy marriage. It especially applies today with the leniency of how human intimacy is treated. Knowing this, the Pope spoke of it to remind people the importance of a Holy Christian marriage. b. We know the Pope is teaching infallibly here because he is re explaining a teaching already in practice. He doesn t add anything to the core of the teaching, which is to avoid temptation in the context of human intimacy, by shows specifically the temptations presented at that time in which the faithful should avoid. We can further confirm that the Pope speaks infallibly because all teachings of the Pope come from God, and there cannot be a fallible teaching from God Himself. 5. a. The point of Arcanum Divinae , as explained by Pope Pius XI, was to concentrate of matrimony as a divine institution and it s sacramental and perpetual stability. He used this Encyclical specifically as a reference and foundation for his own Encyclical. The only difference being that Arcanum Divinae speaks of the spiritual aspects of the sacrament while the Casti Connubii speaks of both the sacramental and the earthly systems and their effect on the lives of men. b. Man cannot change the laws that strengthen marriage because such laws were not created by man. It is a fundamental doctrine that the institution of matrimony and its laws were written by God. Since God is infallible, and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 32. Vaccines And Its Effects On Children Congratulations, you vaccinated your child to protect them, you should feel proud, however, now they are experiencing trouble breathing. Could they be experiencing adverse reactions from the vaccines? Today, there are many vaccines, they are in such high demand that even a simple flu has a vaccine. Vaccines are created to protect us. The main function of vaccines it to build our immune system and fight against many bacterias. However, adverse reactions have become severe over the last couple of years, leaving some parents with no child. Therefore, parents shouldn t be punished for not vaccinating their children because, vaccines can cause many adverse reactions and death in children. Vaccines are a social norm, we are taught that once your child is born they need to get vaccinated. It is only natural for parents to want to protect their child. So why wouldn t we want to vaccinate and protect our child? But, what if these shots that are supposed to protect us hurt your child? Children are facing adverse reactions all over the world. According to the CDC, in the 2015 adverse reactions data file concludes that from September 2 through October 5 there has already been 23991 adverse reactions reported. However, some of these reported cases can be mild, that number is still extremely high. Any child can receive an adverse reaction. Every vaccine has side effects as well. • 34. People Have On Kids Using Electronics There are many different thoughts that people have on kids using electronics. People either don t mind their kids using things like phones or tablets, but there is also a very large amount of people that disagree and limit the use of electronics for their kids. There are many different reasons why people feel the way they do. Both sides make very valid points to support their side, but I see nothing wrong with kids using electronics in their lives. There are going to be many different times when kids are going to need to use electronic devises in their life, so they should learn the different skills while they are young. There are many different views on this topic and one of the biggest reasons why parents don t want their kids using electronics is because they want their kids to be playing and be active. Whether kids are playing inside building forts or outside playing hide and go seek, parents want to see their kids running around and having fun. They want to see their kids be creative and come up with different things they can do to keep themselves occupied just like they did when they were kids! Children six to eleven years old obesity rates in 1980 were seven percent and have risen to eighteen percent in 2012 (cdc.gov). That is a huge increase in obesity and the numbers are only getting bigger and bigger every year. One way to help lower the obesity rate would be by making sure kids are doing activities that involve physical activity. Kids should be playing outside ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 35. Analysis Of Thomas Gainsborough s Portrait Of Grace... Thomas Gainsborough presents a fabulous portrait of Grace Dalrymple Elliott. This is a full length painting believed to be commissioned by her lover, Earl of Cholomondeley in 1777 (Major, 2016). This portrait goes beyond a simple painting of a mistress. Rather, Gainsborough s portrait of Grace is a study of striking and noble beauty versus a celebration of female sexuality as a commodity. Gainsborough accomplished this art piece by using several uncommon practices in his portrait making techniques. The first is using a six foot handle brush working directly on the canvas to give himself a better viewpoint of his work. Second, Gainsborough often painted by candlelight, attempting to simulate the soft lighting in which the painting would be viewed (Information for Parents, n.d.). Gainsborough was very successful in creating an atmospheric mood and unity between the backgrounds and figures in his paintings. He displayed great skill in the use of color repetitions and contrasts, fluid brushstrokes, and highlighting. Grace, in her full length portrait, appears both self confident and majestic as she leans forward on her left foot. She is wearing a simple, snug ribbon choker around her throat that graciously drapes down the front of her chest where she clasps the train of her gown in a gesture of vulnerability. Her other jewelry is a pair of small stud gold earrings and a layered bracelet of strung pearls on both wrists adds a unique touch to not over power or ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 36. Investigating The Biochemical Systems Evolved By looking at the basic biochemistry most organisms share, we can start putting together how the biochemical systems evolved. However, up until the eighties, scientists were still baffled by a chicken and egg debate. All modern organisms require nucleic acids (DNA and RNA) to build proteins (Leslie 99), and the proteins are needed in the formation of nucleic acids. The mystery of which came first: RNA or DNA was solved when a new property of RNA was discovered. There are some RNAs that are capable of catalyzing chemical reactions. This means that RNA is capable of storing genetic information, as well as cause chemical reactions vital for self replication. This breakthrough tentatively solved the mystery of which came first: RNA or DNA. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Analyzing ATP together with other molecular fossils, scientists have discovered that catalytic RNA and molecular fossils are closely related to nucleic acids; suggesting that RNA was crucial to earth s first life. This observations support the RNA world hypothesis, that earth s first life used RNA for basic cellular process rather than the mix of proteins, DNA and RNA used by current organisms (Lazcano et al. 283). Genetics with inheritable evolutionary selection could have come into place with RNA servicing as a self replicator, hence uniting the properties a replicator capable of inheriting information at the same time having the ability to evolve (Leslie 100). Explaining how RNA molecules came about on the basis of prebiotic chemistry is challenging but possible (Choudhary 655). Therefore, experiments have illustrated that RNA can form self replicating molecules, and RNA has been applied successfully in directed evolution experiments (Biebricher et al., 630). In addition, there are numerous potential traces of RNA world present in modern cells. Several viruses use RNA as their genetic material; this proves that RNA is capable of carrying genetic information. RNA can also reversely transcribed into DNA, and the biological synthesis process leading to deoxynucleotides is founded on desoxylation of ribonucleotides, showing that RNA preceded DNA. Additionally, RNA is a functional and structural ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 37. The Secret Labyrinth Of A Snail Shell By Robert Hughes Essay The readings this week began to introduce basic ideas about urbanization and some general information about famous sites in Barcelona. In the first chapter of Barcelona: the Great Enchantress , Robert Hughes described how he was first introduced to Barcelona and its rich culture. He painted a very compelling picture of a city I now can t wait to visit one day. He began by introducing some Barcelonan sites he visited such as, the Sagrada Família designed by Gaudí, the Pyreness mountain range, and his friend Xavier Corberó s house, Can Cargol, located in Esplugües de Llobregat in Southern Barcelona. I found it fascinating that winding catacombs had been dug underneath Can Cargol for storage and possibly defense in the Roman times (Hughes 2004: 5). Hughes also suggested that these caves might have reminded people of the secret labyrinth of a snail shell (Hughes 2004: 5) which would explain how it got its Catalan name in which translates to house of the snail. He described his experiences in the cave and one particular instance stood out to me; In one of the storage rooms there was an old printing press that could have been used by a radicalist to promote anti Carlist texts (Hughes 2004: 5). According to the Encyclopedia Britannica, the Carlist movement was a political movement in Spain that attempted to change the government system from a more conservative to a liberal style. It impressed me that this smaller town could have housed a place that advocated for political change ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 38. Hip Hop And Hip Rap Music The study of hip hop music has been cited well throughout its growth over time. The purpose of this paper is intended to discuss hip hop culture and address cultural stereotypes associated with rap and hip hop music, but also how its original lyrical intentions were forms of expression and art. It will begin by guiding the reader through how it originated, its influence with the African Americans with its subculture and popularity in urban areas, its styles of evolving, the introduction of hip hop and rap to the public, the depiction it gave off with its criticisms from outsiders. An evaluation of hip hop artists songs by Sugar Hill and the Gang, Run DMC, Queen Latifah, and N.W.A. Including lyrics from the songs Rappers Delight , King of Rock , Latifah s Law , and Niggaz4Life . In the conclusion it exposes how hip hop music is clearly for black Americans to express themselves freely and in fact did not cause violence. Hip hop cannot be understood by just examining how the artists might carry themselves or just their lyrics alone. The uniting of hip hop in to society gave accommodations in an integrated generation of young Americans and it changed the racial dynamics in the United States. Even though you might not be born in the 70 s when hip hop was originated, it has become a part of our generation and has stuck around ever since. This paper is written with the intentions to prove how the evolution of hip hop or rap music has ultimately made America ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 39. Knowing Your Value, by Mika Brzezinski Alexandra Holland Knowing Your Value Mine was a truly unconventional path, and I advise you not to walk it yourself (Brzezinski 9). Knowing Your Value investigates the unconventional path Mika alludes to in this quote. After her many years of experience in news casting and being fired from 60 Minutes, she saw her career opportunities dwindling away. She mentions in the book how she was so desperate that she begged MSNBC to give her a job, any job (and looking back she regrets her decision to do so). Although MSNBC allowed her to have a job, it was not the kind of work she imagined herself doing, especially with the strong skill set she gained over the years. It was predictable, it was good for the kids, and it was great to get back in the game, but the work was boring (Brzezinski 13). Brzezinski, after only a one year break from working, had to yet again climb her way to the top. While most of the time slots she was given to fill were menial, every once in a while she filled in as a substitute for more sought after roles. Until one day, there was a new opening at MSNBC for a three hour time slot (Brzezinski 15). Joe Scarborough saw something in Brzezinski and asked her to be a part of his new show, which would potentially be a front runner to gain the position in that three hour slot. Although this was a great opportunity there was a lot to think about in regards to if this new job would be a good fit not only for Mika, but also for her family. Did I need ...
