Women And Female Characters In Homer s Medea
Another of Greco Roman mythology s strongest and most prominent female characters is Medea.
Throughout her different iterations, Medea is shown to be closely associated with the female ability to
give and withhold life. First of all, she was a disciple of Hecate who, aside from being the goddess of
the moon, witchcraft, and crossroads (Brooks, Lesson 12: Perseus and Demeter), is described in
Hesiod s Theogony as a nurse of the young (455) and having the ability to increase[e] stock in a pen
[...] if she wills in her heart she can multiply them or make them diminish (446 449). Consistent with
Hecate s abilities, Medea s plot against Pelias, described in Ovid s Metamorphoses, revolves around
her ability to give life by return[ing] the vigor and bloom of youth (7.215). Additionally, in Euripides
Medea, she tells King Aigeus that she will put an end to [his] childlessness (716) and help him beget
heirs of [his] blood (717) in order to ensure that Athens will grant her asylum after executing her
revenge on Jason (679 758). Overall, Medea is shown to be a woman with great control over life.
However, she does not only grant it, she also exercises her ability to take it away. Medea kills her own
children as a part of her plan to take revenge on Jason, stating that if die they must, I shall slay them,
who gave them birth (Euripides 63). She also kills Creon s daughter, stating that never shall [Jason]
beget children by his new bride (Euripides, Medea 803 804), which results in a complete loss of all his
current and potential heirs. Ultimately, the play ends with Medea escaping without punishment for her
actions, and this fact seems to affirm a mother s rights over the life they have given. A similar situation
can be found in Ovid s Metamorphoses, where Procne kills her son and serves him to her husband,
Tereus, for dinner as retribution for the rape and mutilation of her sister (6.620 674). It is a particularly
fitting punishment as it violates Tereus body in a similar manner, by forcing him to contain something
unwanted, and allows Procne and Philomela to retake the control that was stolen from them. Not only
do both mothers kill their children the one thing they have an inherent right to control

Attention In Meinke s Advice To My Son
The typical American dream consists of a white picket fence, a beautiful house, and a perfect family,
but would that dream continue to exist with constricting economic and behavioral factors? More
specifically, would a child s quality of life be disturbed by these issues? From day one, society is told
that all they need to have a happy, successful life are the bare necessities, but recent studies and
personal accounts have proven otherwise. The fragileness that surrounds a child s life has the
opportunity to be influenced by outside, powerful forces such as a a parent s marital status, income,
and devotion. Parents are given the role of a caretaker when they introduce a new being into the
world; however, an increasing number of parents are ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As an infant, a child will wail out until their caretaker tends to their needs, so attention seeking is an
attribute they are born with. However, when a child does receive this attention, they form a closer
relationship with their parents. An occurrence of this happens in the short story Advice to My Son,
when the father gives his son life changing advice. The father gives his son the advice to live his days
as fruitful as possible and to make them last (Meinke 1 5). Without the closeness of this relationship,
the father would not have given his son the meaningful advice, so the son would not repeat his
mistakes. Having hope for his son, the father is able to relate, and it is because the father cares for his
child and the child s wellbeing. According to The Urban Child Institute, ...parents and caregivers
provide their young children with essential experiences that set a stable foundation for future health,
social and emotional well being and academic achievement (A Parent s Attention is the Greatest Gift
to Child). If a child were left in the forest with nobody to take care of him or her, they would surely
succumb to their demise. Without a parent or a parent s love and affection, a child can not function the
proper way it was made to. They need a teacher to help guide them through life and help them to

Big Boy s History And The 5c Framework
Introduction
Representatives from Northlich and Frisch s expressed that over the 40 year life of the Frisch s Big
Boy brand, Frisch s has neglected managing their marketing strategy and research. As a result, Frisch s
marketing style has remained relatively unchanged for decades. Frisch s seeks to attract consumers in
the millennial cohort. To implement the changes required to appeal to this new market, Frisch s will
benefit from understanding the following elements of the 5C framework: company, climate,
customers, collaborators, and competitors. This competitive analysis will contextualize Frisch s Big
Boy s history and the 5C Framework to gain an understanding of Frisch s position and competencies
in the chain restaurant industry.

Climate
Brand recognition is a powerful asset for these firms. To maintain recognition and manage cultural
shifts, franchises in the full service sector often make subtle changes to their logos over time. These
slight changes go unnoticed by the seasoned consumers, but appeal to emerging consumer segments
and modern perceptions (see Appendix A). Northlich s makeover initiatives for Frisch s are valuable,
positive changes to open the Frisch s aesthetic to new audiences (see Figure 1). Unfortunately, these
changes did not occur over an extended period of time and are immediately visible for all consumers.
These changes have faced opposition from older consumers as a result. Frisch s traditional marketing
strategies are not suited for millennial consumers because the millennial market did not exist when the
original marketing strategies were implemented. Changes, like up dating the Big Boy mascot, are
necessary to appeal to Frisch s target millennial market.
This industry is moderately regulated (Alvarez, 2016). The food industry as a whole, including full
service restaurants have been affected by the public and political discussions of GMO (genetically
modified organisms) food products. As millennial consumers become a larger, profitable consumer
group; their high value for healthy and authentic food options becomes are more significant driver of

Gender Roles In Rebecca Solnit s Cassandra Amongst The...
Hysteria derives from the greek work uterus. That notion refers to women everywhere having to live
by the myth of gender roles. Most of the time these stereotypes turn into name calling which result in
a harassment of words sticking long enough to the point where it s deemed as normal. The
significance of that myth by people who endure verbal attacks correlates to how the rest of the crowd
then perceives the judged. The consequences that follow are in the form of reputation creating these
social norms that are unfair. In the tale Cassandra Amongst the Creeps, author Rebecca Solnit
exemplifies the topic of how myths create social norms with the setting stone story of the goddess
denying a Gods sexual request. As a result the curse of disbelief and tainted credibility of women was
made normal as that myth stayed alive throughout history even to this day. In conjunction to Solnit,
Lauren Holmes author of Barbara the Slut exhibits the modern setting of a high school to portray how
impactful perception and credibility derived from that myth are. Both authors entertain how certain
attitudes perpetuate future problems that can destroy characters esteem. Barbara s scarred credibility
was in result of other people s false conscious of her character. Barbara the Slut s story represents the
meaning of Solnit s belief of myth changing reality by exhibiting how women s sexuality is tied to
perception, and how that perception changes individual s credibility and reputation.

The Strange Death Of Silas Deane Summary
Studying history can be an active, often arduous process, dependent on making assumptions with the
evidence available and proving those assumptions to be correct or otherwise. But it can also be an
easy task if done incorrectly, one of cutting corners and assuming falsehoods to be true for the sake of
convenience. This is the way that many historians, amateur or professional, approach history. Not only
does this approach exclude any possibility for well constructed conclusions to be made, it can also
leave the populace ignorant of the truth. In The Strange Death of Silas Deane , James West Davidson
and Mark Hamilton Lytle argue that history is not merely the act of collecting data rather of making
assumptions about the data through the use of countless rhetorical questions, paragraph organization,
and a sardonic tone.
The Strange Death of Silas Deane retraces the story of Silas Deane, an early American politician, and
the events that led up to his death. The authors begin by revealing the conclusion that most historians
have made about the case: Deane committed suicide. Then, they steadily disprove that conclusion with
a myriad of facts and interpretations. The essay provides a thorough recount of Deane s life and argues
that Silas didn t commit suicide rather, he was murdered. To give weight to this hypothesis, the
authors draw from reserves of knowledge about Deane and his closest friend, Edward Bancroft. After
investigating Bancroft s life and his relationship with

Influenza Will Cause The Next Pandemic
Infectious diseases are constantly emerging and re emerging across the globe. These diseases can
transfer from person to person directly or indirectly; by skin, blood, and or body secretions. It can also
be transferred through contaminated food or water, and air. According to Heymann, The ones with the
most risk are airborne. (Senthilingam, 2015). Therefore, I believe Influenza will cause the next
pandemic. Reason being, the flu has the ability to disseminate before a person s symptoms become
visible. Unlike Ebola and SARS, which are only contagious once symptoms emerge (Senthilingam,
2015).
Influenza viruses are significant human respiratory pathogens that cause both seasonal, endemic
infections and periodic, unpredictable pandemics (Taubenberger

Compare And Contrast San Luis Obispo
Two towns. Both located on the coast of California. Both are small, bounded by the ocean. Both hold
around 40,000 citizens. One town, Martinez, is my hometown. The other, San Luis Obispo, is four
hours south of it and home to my favorite college. On the outside, they seem pretty similar, but after
experiencing the culture and lifestyle of each, one could not disagree with me when I say they are
extremely different. The most notable differences are the coasts of each one, their downtown areas,
and the activities provided by each city.
The Martinez Marina is a quaint spot for a stroll or a picnic, but that s about it. The cold and constant
wind takes away from the breathtaking views and it always seems to be overcast when I m down
there. No ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It is full of antique shops and restaurants which are usually fairly empty. Inhabitants of Martinez enjoy
driving to neighboring cities to shop and grab a bite to eat. The streets are silent every day except
Sundays. On Sundays farmers, vendors, and cooks set up stands for the farmer s market. We get a
reasonable turnout as people come from ten a.m. to two p.m. to buy their fruits and vegetables.
Thursday nights are farmer s markets nights for San Luis Obispo. Citizens come weekly and
vacationers will extend their stay to experience the well known event. The streets flood with people,
food, and all sorts of smells. Eating dinner there is typical, and many linger and chat with friends and
strangers alike. On the six other days of the week, unlike Martinez, the streets are not empty. There are
hundreds of name brand stores and restaurants. People can shop with friends, chat in the plazas, stick
their gum on the wall of bubblegum alley, or simply enjoy a stroll through the town. The first time I
explored downtown SLO, I was awestruck by the buzzing, upbeat atmosphere. Everyone seemed to be
enjoying themselves and connecting with others. Just walking around lifted my spirits, it was
especially appealing to revel in the excitement with my family. It is city life with the small town

The Model Of Emergent Leadership
Tuvia Bielski:
The Model of Emergent Leadership in Edward Zwick s Defiance Have you ever been in a situation
where you had to take charge, and take on leadership roles in a short period of time ? Some people
may say that not everyone can be a leader. Some also believe that leaders are born with the necessary
qualities, which make them successful as a leader. Others believe that leadership, like many other
character traits, can be learned and developed through life. The debate depends on how you define
leadership. A leader can be made in certain situations of survival. It can range from promoting what is
right to perform social changes, or just to execute their own ideas. When you are a leader you gain a
certain sense of independence, and pride that you started something. Therefore, when it s finished you
get to show people that you were able to accomplish all of this.
Watching the movie Defiance by Edward Zwick, I came across the character Tuvia Bielski. The movie
unfolded a leader in front of our eyes. Tuvia became the leader of the partisan group. His
characteristics that he possessed before he took his position, groomed him into the leader he was then.
Tuvia Bielski became a leader because of the circumstances he found himself in.
Defining Leadership
Leadership means the period during which a person occupies the position of leader. A leader is
someone who brings a group of people together, and directs them toward a common goal. Someone

Plath s Effective Use of Characterization in The Initiation
Millicent faces conflict the entire story, whether it was internal or external. Conflict was necessary,
because it helps develop the characterization of Millicent and other characters in the story.
Characterization is necessary, because it portrays Millicent s feelings toward the initiation and the
character plot of other characters. Millicent is faced with a decision in the short story, whether to be
initiated or not. The use of character plot and theme play a role in the final decision that Millicent
makes. The author uses characterization and conflict effectively in the short story to create character
plot and theme. Characterization is effectively used to create character plot and portray the theme of
the story. This is effectively used by the author through Millicent s thoughts and through the use of
other characters. For instance, Millicent continually tells herself that what girl wouldn t want to be
elected like she was (Plath 240). She repeatedly tells herself ideas such as this, because she is trying to
convince herself that she is making the right choice. Another instance is shown when Tracy tells
Millicent that Millicent will change, whether she thinks she will or not (240). Through the words
Tracy states, Millicent realizes that she is lying to herself. Consequently, through the earlier examples,
the characterization of Millicent and other characters creates the character plot in the story. The
character plot in the story shows how Millicent has to make a

Epidermal Layer Of Skin Essay
Epidermal and Dermal Layers of Skin in Relation to the Permanence of Fingerprints The tough,
relatively thin outer layer of the skin, or epidermis is made up of five layers of keratinocyte cells. This
outer layer of the skin acts as the bodies first natural form of defense by preventing most bacteria,
viruses and foreign objects from penetrating the body. Additionally, the epidermis layer of skin works
to protect internal organs in the body against trauma. The epidermal layer of skin present on the palms
of the hands and the bottom of the feet are much thicker to provide additional protection due to the
stratum corneum, the outer keratin layer of the epidermis. Melanocytes can be found in the deepest
layer of the epidermis, the basal layer, its primary function is to protect DNA from harmful exposure
to ultraviolet radiation from sunlight (Holder, Robinson Laub, 2011). ... Show more content on

This layer of skin is made up of two sub layers, the papillary layer and the reticular layer. Additionally,
the dermis layer of skin houses nerve endings, sweat gland, sebaceous glands, hair follicles and blood
vessels which work together to regulate the body s temperature. Nerve endings function to allow us to
sense pain, touch, pressure, and temperature, while sweat glands produce sweat in response to heat
and stress. The sebaceous glands, which secrete oil into hair follicles to moisten the skin and act as a
barrier against foreign substances. Together the papillary layer and the reticular layer provide our skin
with its flexibility and strength. (SEER Training Modules,

Examples Of Tragedy In Death Of A Salesman
American Tragedy Aristotle defines what a tragedy is in his famed piece Poetics. In it, he sets
guidelines that all tragedies should meet in order to become the fantastic displays of misery that they
are meant to be. Six main elements are present in every tragedy: plot, character, thought, diction,
melody, and spectacle. The two most important, of course, were plot and character. Both had to be
complex but believable, consistent, and possess the ability to arouse pity and fear in the audience.
Although both are the top elements that are the focus of tragedy, the other four are imperative to
achieve the tone and overall character of one. In Death of A Salesman by Arthur Miller, the character
Willy Loman is an average modern American man ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
More than that, he wanted to become that man that he admired who died the death of a salesman in his
green velvet slippers whose funeral garnered many loving friends and family (Miller 81). Audiences
can relate as they too have had an idol in their head that they have aspired to become. Seeing the
aspirations of Willy warrants pity in the audience when they see what a failure Willy Loman becomes.
Failure is what consumes Willy. He understands that that is his life. But in his deep deluded mind
twisted with broken memories and false hopes he can never truly accept it. He never has that point of
discovery that a tragic hero does. Willy Loman never realizes the doom waiting for him at the end of
his downward spiral. Even his attempts at suicide, and finally his one successful one, were misguided
and were attempts to become something greater. No one shows up at the funeral besides his family. He
is not great like a tragic hero. Willy Loman is a nobody, he is only a tragic hero to himself, just like
everyone in the audience. Everyone sings the song of their own tragedy . That is the American tragedy.
Everyone is the American tragic hero with their own tragedy. Arthur Miller captures the Average man
with the average family and average dreams, living an average life with no gain in the end.
Many people argue that Death of a Salesman should fall under the genre of tragedy. They argue that

The Insolvency Of Human Nature And The Nomological Notion
The Insolvency of Human Nature and the Nomological Notion: A Refutation of Machery As one
examines Edouard Machery s A Plea for Human Nature, it is clear that there are a number of critical
themes to examine within the nomological context set forth (Machery 2008). In a very salient sense,
Machery posits that the set of characteristics that humans are most often inclined to posses, are indeed
representative of human nature and are a consequence of the species evolution (Machery, pp. 3, ll. 56
58). Moreover, Machery puts forth that the existence of human nature does not circumscribe a tie
within the human species (Machery, pp. 3 4, ll. 85 90). Herein, Machery also notes a class formation
within a biological context that includes ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Yet in the case of the former, one can reason that what is deemed common sense, could easily vary
across time and place, so as to make such judgments more akin to conjecture rather than fact. In the
case of the latter, while apt modern sciences may in some regard be able to depict what anguish is
from a physiological standpoint, quantifying the degree of physiological change and its resultant
effects would be extremely variable and call in to question the arbitrary title of anguish. Indeed,
empirical physiological results and common sense conjectures would likely fall on an enormous
spectrum. For example, empirical data might detail some mean regarding hormonal levels, while
themes regarding perception might feature general sensibilities formed by individuals and groups. To
be sure, one would likely find a host of other factors in which one could confirm their own bias about
the nature of anguish. Herein, such broad ranges of results would have not characterized anguish,
human nature, or what people tend to posses, but rather merely that humans have fairly rudimentary
and vacillating senses. Moreover, there is not much of a sense of what is at stake, as generalizations
about given groups could be deemed as their given nature, only to change across

Summary Of Electromyography
Tennis elbow occurs when the wrist extensor tendon becomes inflamed as a result of overuse or
repetitive trauma. A common treatment method is the prescription of a counterforce brace. Our
research interest lies in determining the effectiveness of such a brace. With overuse and repetitive
trauma playing such a huge role in the onset of this injury, it is therefore logical to examine the effect
of the brace on muscular endurance and it s ability to delay the onset of fatigue.
A review of relevant publications was completed to determine what findings have already been
established. Electromyography (EMG) has been used throughout multiple studies, which is useful to
quantify electrical activity within the muscle. We know that an increase in electrical ... Show more

These compensations could skew the EMG by increasing noise, indicating activity of synergistic
muscles. These compensatory movements will not be as apparent in healthy subjects, making the
analysis of the brace more true to ECRB alone. We strive to provide continuity between all subjects
with regard to elbow angle, muscle isolation when using EMG, and brace application technique: such
as tension, and duration of the brace application, so as to reduce chance of the brace coming loose
throughout the course of the experiment. This study is needed because it will provide a well controlled
experiment with use of a healthy population and their subjective exertion, in order to provide a greater
understanding of the counterforce brace and it s effect on muscular endurance.
Previous research provided recommendations to increase both the quality and validity of the research,
but also the overall understanding of the topic. Wadsworth, Nielsen, Burns, Krull, and

Concept of supervisory skills
Supervision is a way of advising, guarding, refreshing, encouraging, stimulating, improving and over

Ogunu (1998:128) defines supervision as the art of overseeing the activities of teachers and other

Lehman Case Study Writeup Essay
Organizational Power and Influence
Lehman Case Analysis
Lewis Glucksman who scrapped his way up through Lehman s unprestigious but increasingly
profitable stock and bond trading department, was able to take control of the firm after a bitter power
struggle against its former CEO, Peter Peterson. Glucksman was victorious in the end as he proved
himself to be an indispensible part of Lehman s operations.
During the times leading up to the power struggle, the power dynamic within Lehman was steadily
shifting as trading profits became increasingly more important to Lehman versus traditional
investment banking profits. Thus, Glucksman was able to step into the spot light and Peterson became
more expendable. Peter Peterson s core ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Historically this has always been a formula for disaster. Justifications for the duality were
unconvincing. Peterson was suppose to be the external client facing image of the company whereas
Glucksman was suppose to be the internal executioner of operations. The division of duties may seem
clear but it does not lead to a clear division of power. At the very top of a major Wall Street company,
power must be clearly defined and completely authoritative. If it is not, then human nature and the
nature of an organization will eventually find a way to define power. In this case, power was defined
through duties and internal duties won over external duties.
Also contributing to the outcome of the power struggle were structural features that existed across the
financial industry. The whole industry is governed and motivated by profits generated through
individual contribution irrespective of the firm s net performance. This particular industry structure
results in the classic inter departmental tensions to maximize the individual department s profits. To a
certain extent, Lehman had to comply with rest of the companies by creating the isolated departmental
structure to maintain its top performers. As a result, when a department creates 60 80% of the firm s
profit, the power shifts to the department making the most money. Lehman could have created an
alternate compensation strategy to reduce the potential for power struggle between the departments.

potentially lead to a misdiagnosis. Realities of the NCRMD defence Despite the perception that
anyone could potentially fabricate a story and argue for a not criminally responsible verdict, the

Since the discrete nature of the DSM relies on a yes no approach to classification, patient is either
afflicted with a certain mental illness, or not. On the discussion of the not criminally responsible
individual, this means that if an individual answers incorrectly or does not provide the right
information, they may not be properly characterized under a certain disorder. This may not necessarily
mean that the individual does not possess this certain disorder. Furthermore, disorders that have not
yet been discovered by psychiatrist will not be found within the DSM manual. The obvious
consequence for this would mean that individuals who have special types of disorders might not be
diagnosed at all and if they are, they may be diagnosed under incorrect categories due to a lack of
understanding. A second criticism of the DSM IV is that the cut off points for each disorder are often
chosen with little empirical justification. Merely relying on the number of symptoms and the duration
of which they appear could mean that those who do not meet the cut off points for a given category are
simply funnelled into the criminal justice system without receiving the quality of mental health
attention that they may require. In certain cases, having only two symptoms instead of the required
three to possess a certain mental disorder would mean that you do not have that disorder at all. This
sort of information should be considered as potentially being sufficient to leave someone in a position
where they do not appreciate the nature and quality of their actions. Even if these factors are
insufficient to warrant an acquittal based on an entry of NCRMD, it should at the very least be used as
a mitigating

There are many meaningful passages in the Holy Bible, but a passage from the first letter to the
Corinthians touched me the most. Your every act should be done with love (1 Corinthians 16:14).
Readers must read the first letter to the Corinthians as a whole book before attempting to understand
the passage, because apostle Paul, the author of the text, provides readers with a thorough
understanding into the life of an early Christian community of the first generation than any other book
of the New Testament. Paul may have written more, but there are only two epistles documented in the
New Testament with the other two included within the two canonical epistles, which he wrote to the
Christian church in the city of Corinth. During the year 56, the community of Corinth was manifesting
open factionalism: certain members were distinguishing themselves solely with individual Christian
leaders, living publicly in an incestuous union, engaged in legal conflicts in pagan courts of law,
participating in religious prostitution, and performing temple sacrifices. The lively pagan culture that
Corinth was famous for had crept into the church making it difficult to identify the Christians and non
Christians. The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

commands should spring from, and be done in love for him, and their conduct and behavior towards
one another be out of love and charity as referring to the unrevised form of this text, Let all your
things be done with charity (1 Corinthians 16:14). Paul emphasizes that love should bear all things,
cover legions of sins, and that all the Corinthians church affairs and meetings should be conducted in
peace with mutual affection instead of animosity and arrogance. The main message Paul is conveying

G. B. Shaw s Pygmalion
Like all of Shaw s great dramatic creations, Pygmalion is a richly complex play. It combines a central
story of the transformation of a young woman with elements of myth, fairy tale, and romance, while
also combining an interesting plot with an exploration of social identity, the power of science,
relations between men and women, and other issues.
Pygmalion is one of Shaw s most popular plays as well as one of his most straightforward ones. The
form has none of the complexity that we find in Heartbreak House or Saint Joan, nor are the ideas in
Pygmalion nearly as profound as the ideas in any of Shaw s other major works. It can be considerated
an issue of language.
This play was written by George Bernard Shaw in 1912, presents a comic ... Show more content on

An even more obvious example of this id the epilogue to Pygmalion: the rest of the story need not to
be shewn in action...etc. where is clear that the dramatist has allowed the novelist to take over the
story that he no longer wishes to handle.
The first impression we get of Eliza s is a poor flower girl that has a very strong, whiny personality. I
ain t done nothing wrong by speaking to the gentleman. I ve a right to sell flowers if I keep off the
kerb. This is our first view of Eliza standing up for her self and not being outspoken. This foreshadows
a girl that would not be good in a relationship because in the time this book is set, a woman was to
obey the man and let him do the big talk.
While Eliza in a gloomily and rainy evening is trying to sell flowers out of S. Paul s church, a man
have been observing her and taking down notes on a notebook. Eliza was conversating with two
women, a mother and daughter, who were waiting for a taxi under the shelter of the church s portico.
Their conversation begins when Freddy, the son who is looking for the taxi, carelessly bumps into the
flower girl. She attempts to get the mother to buy the flowers her son has damaged, and is successful.
She then tries to sell her flowers to another gentleman, when someone in the crowd warns her that a
man is taking notes on what she has been saying. She becomes hysterical, believing the man

Brief Overview Of The Accounting Industry
Brief Overview of the Accounting Industry
The accounting industry generates annual revenue of approximately $145 billion by providing
services such as auditing, bookkeeping, payroll, and tax preparation. With over 125,000 service
providers in the United States, the industry is dominated by the Big Four accounting firms of Deloitte,
Ernst Young, KPMG, and Pricewaterhouse Coopers. Due to the industry s role in an increasingly
complex business environment, accounting services are highly contingent on implications from
regulatory bodies. As a result, the competitive landscape of the industry is dependent on a firm s
ability to provide the right mix of services in view of a client s business and compliance needs. [First
Research] Firms that are able to meet the demands of the marketplace by providing specialized and
superior services are able to achieve higher profitability rates than its competitors.
The Affordable Care Act of 2010
The U.S. healthcare system encountered a fundamental transformation when the Patient Protection
and Affordable Care Act (ACA) was implemented in early 2010. The reforms assembled under this
legislation sought to assure universal access to quality and affordable healthcare for the American
community as well as make an attempt to contain rising healthcare costs. Essential elements of ACA

Burj Khalifa And The Tallest Building
Burj Khalifa
Intro
The future has met the present in the Burj Khalifa, which stands today as the tallest building ever
built, standing at around 830 metres (2,700 ft) tall. From the top of the Burj Khalifa s 160 floors, one
can see a circumference distance of about 855 kilometres (550 miles). When compared, the highest
observational deck of the Empire State Building in New York City, once the tallest building in the
world, developed a circumferential view of about 320 km. The 460,000 square meter structure
contains residential, hotel, commercial, office, entertainment, shopping, leisure, and parking facilities.
With accurate and sophisticated panning, engineers construct and built this larger than life structure in
a really short time involving some of the latest construction methods of this era. The concepts used for
the Burj Khalifa s foundation construction, overall structural design, wind engineering, and
construction planning have revolutionised high rise construction.
The goal of the Burj Khalifa is not to be the world s highest building, it s to express the world s
highest aspirations. The superstructure has reached over 165 stories. the final height of the building is
2,717 feet (828 metres). The height of the multi use skyscraper has comfortably exceed the previous
record holder, the 509 metre (1671 ft) tall Taipei 101.

Ecological Theory And Social Work
Hospital social work is time limited and the focus could easily be more directed at problems rather
than solutions. Patients enter the hospital with a physical problem and desire to leave with answers. In
this type of environment the focus can be on the physical ailment rather than additional factors that
may be contributing to physical distress. Environmental factors can promote well being or become a
barrier to wellness. An ecological perspective provides a lens to view patient systems in a broader
context.
Ecological perspective is a useful framework in which to view the individual in context with their
environment. According to Rogers (2013) ecological theory was originally developed by a
psychologist, Urie Bronfenbrenner in 1979 (p. 42). A fundamental tenet of ecological theory is that
people are actively involved with their environments and their perceptions of the environment
significantly affects their well being (p. 42).
Ecological theory describes four levels of the environment that interconnect and impact people.
Moving from the most intimate individual system to a broader inclusion you can identify the many
systems that play a role in individual s lives and well being. These interactions could be harmonious
and create homeostasis or could be disharmonious and cause stress.
First, the microsystem level encompasses roles and relationships in a person s immediate environment
(Rogers, 2013, p. 43). For example, Maria s relationships and home living situation

How Did Norse Mythology Affect The Viking Way
Thor, Odin, and Loki, all good marvel characters, but they didn t originate in the minds of Stan Lee. In
fact they originated nearly 1300 years earlier, in the Viking age. In that time Norse mythology was
born in its entirety. The way it was shaped was an effect of the Viking way, and the Viking way was
affected by their mythology. Norse mythology didn t stay inclusive to their own gods because of their
raids and trading they learned different religions. Norse mythology integrated another mythology into
theirs. This in turn cause wars between those said gods, specific to this essay the Aesir Vanir War. This
affected how Vikings saw the use of Seidr and this event was directly related to them raiding and
trading with other lands.

Optimism Critical Thinking
What the world gains from optimism. Hellen Keller wrote in her essay titled Optimism, Part 3: The
Practice of Optimism , Optimism is the faith that leads to achievement. Nothing can be done without
hope and confidence. Positive thinking is the true meaning of hope in the world that can lead to many
great successes and can bring confidence. For example, as my softball season started up last year I
knew I was going to struggle especially knowing my team would be getting a new coach. The year
started with anxiety at a high but as the year continued, I continued to look on it with optimism and
eventually my skills and my ability to use optimism improved. Optimism helped to give me
confidence in myself and to succeed even though I had major doubts. ... Show more content on

Optimism can definitely lead to obtaining set goals such as last semester when I decided to enter for
the Hugh O Brien Youth Leadership Scholarship (HOBY) Award during which I had to set certain
goals to succeed in the next step. Through the entire process, I used optimism to guide me through my
challenging goals which helped me to obtain the scholarship. Not only can optimism lead to success in
educational goals but in athletic goals as well. During any athletic game, in this case for me softball, I
found that using optimism to learn from errors can lead to accomplishing any goal easier. Instead of
rejecting the goal after a few mistakes, use optimism to learn from the mistakes for the future. Using
the mentality of optimism within a goal can lead to great success in accomplishing any set goal
whether it be educational or

3d Printing And The 3d Printer s New Found Popularity...
In 1986 Charles Hull invented the 3D printer (Lewis). Hull s 3D printer has come a long way since
then, and in all those years 3D printing has finally shifted its way into the public eye. This bout of
fame and recognition for printers though is both a blessing as well as a curse. 3D printers are finally
being given the attention and appreciation they deserve; even President Obama saw their potential
when he gave a $30 million dollar grant to the National Additive Manufacturing Innovation Institute
in Ohio (Lewis). Unfortunately, the 3D printer s new found popularity comes with a price. Like any
budding young star the 3D printer is under constant scrutiny and has lost some of the freedom it once
had, freedoms like exemption from ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Once one creative medium is given free reign from intellectual property laws, what excuse is there not
to make exceptions for all other creative mediums as well? Why should books, photographs,
sculptures, digital artwork, etc. all not be liberated from intellectual property laws as well? Another
fear, held by both companies and consumers alike, is the possibility of counterfeit products.
Individuals would have the power and opportunity to print and sell different products to buyers who
believe they are purchasing and paying for the original and genuine product. Those who oppose
leaving 3D printers unrestricted also anticipate that it could lead to intellectual property laws being
eradicated completely, as the government loses complete control over 3D printing all together.
The current difference between all other creative mediums and 3D printers at this time is that all the
others are well established and known by the public throughout the world. 3D printing is still so
young, it was only in the 1980 s that engineers began to use 3D printers in their work (Barnett). Most
of the general public have only now begun to learn about the existence and understand what a 3D
printer is. Due to the fact that 3D printing is such a new and up and coming technology, it still has a
very long way to go development wise. 3D printers are far from being perfect. In order for 3D printing
to continue to expand though it needs to be nourished by both creativity and freedom.

Corruption In The Oedipus Complex
Cormac McCarthy s novel exemplifies the nature of power and corruption in a post apocalyptic
setting. Throughout the entirety of the novel, readers are witnessed to a relationship between a man
and boy displaying their encounters in a corrupt dystopia. Following the death of his wife, the man
and his son embark on a journey through this setting in hopes of reaching the coast where they would
be isolated from cannibalism, corruption, and empowerment. These different acts can relate to
multiple readings of psychology and mythology. Readers are first captured by the corruption of this
dystopia immediately at the beginning of the novel. The author addresses the man believing as if the
month was October , stating that he has not kept a calendar for years (McCarthy 1). By inferring that
the month is October we can assure that the man and boy have been living in this corrupt dystopia for
an expanded time. As they continue on this journey, images of a psychological comparison come to
mind. Dr. Sigmund Freud s, The Oedipus Complex, is a theory of psychosexual stages of development
to describe a boy s feelings of desire for his mother and jealousy and anger towards his father. This
Oedipus Complex directly correlates to the boy s relationship to his father, specifically when they
encountered another man: this man was struck with lightning and was struggling to survive. Instead of
helping, the man decided to worry about their own survival and continue their journey to the

Abgenix was in the eve of its big decision. ABX EGF program was perhaps the biggest decision
management. In preclinical trials; ABX EGF was so successful that it had attracted a number of
potential partners. Abgenix had three different options. Pharmacol, Biopart and go it alone. Abgenix
had to decide whether to: License ABX EGF to a pharmaceutical company which would do all further
testing and commercialization. (This was the option of Pharmacol. Abgenix would bear little risk and
receive license royalties.)
Use a joint venture with a biotechnology company to complete the testing and commercialization.
(This was the option of Biopart. Abgenix would bear moderate risk but split profits.)
Pursue the ABX EGF project as a solo venture. (This was the option of going alone. Abgenix would
bear all risks but gather all the profits.)
F. Conclusion and Recommendations:
Abgenix was about to make an important decision.
The advantages of having a partner are as follows: Additional resources and cash to develop ABX
EGF properly, Decreasing the risk of Abgenix if ABX EGF runs of either not developing it properly or
that the product turns out to be unsuccessful after Abgenix invests a large amount of cash. Partner s

Nationalism and Foreign Policy Making
Introduction
The general subject of this proposed study is Chinese nationalism and how it affects China s foreign
policy. More specifically, I will examine if, and how, domestic nationalist feelings impact Chinese
foreign policy. When analyzing the outcome I will focus on whether or not emergent territorial
concerns and traditional security issues will be put higher on the agenda after the level of nationalism
has increased.
Contribution to the State of Knowledge in the Field
My study will contribute to research focused specifically on the correlation between international
relations, nationalism and policymaking towards foreign countries in China. In her book Powerful
Patriots: Nationalist Protest in China s foreign relations Jessica Chen Weiss provided an analysis of
China s management of nationalist and anti foreign protests and their diplomatic consequences. She
focuses on the protest aspect of nationalism in China, and how protests are used as a tool by Chinese
officials in favor of their own agendas. This study will try to provide a comprehensive frame of the
impact of Chinese nationalism on two specific issues in Chinese foreign policy, that is emergent
territorial concerns (e.g. South China Sea) and traditional security issues (e.g. Taiwan).

  • 2. Women And Female Characters In Homer s Medea Another of Greco Roman mythology s strongest and most prominent female characters is Medea. Throughout her different iterations, Medea is shown to be closely associated with the female ability to give and withhold life. First of all, she was a disciple of Hecate who, aside from being the goddess of the moon, witchcraft, and crossroads (Brooks, Lesson 12: Perseus and Demeter), is described in Hesiod s Theogony as a nurse of the young (455) and having the ability to increase[e] stock in a pen [...] if she wills in her heart she can multiply them or make them diminish (446 449). Consistent with Hecate s abilities, Medea s plot against Pelias, described in Ovid s Metamorphoses, revolves around her ability to give life by return[ing] the vigor and bloom of youth (7.215). Additionally, in Euripides Medea, she tells King Aigeus that she will put an end to [his] childlessness (716) and help him beget heirs of [his] blood (717) in order to ensure that Athens will grant her asylum after executing her revenge on Jason (679 758). Overall, Medea is shown to be a woman with great control over life. However, she does not only grant it, she also exercises her ability to take it away. Medea kills her own children as a part of her plan to take revenge on Jason, stating that if die they must, I shall slay them, who gave them birth (Euripides 63). She also kills Creon s daughter, stating that never shall [Jason] beget children by his new bride (Euripides, Medea 803 804), which results in a complete loss of all his current and potential heirs. Ultimately, the play ends with Medea escaping without punishment for her actions, and this fact seems to affirm a mother s rights over the life they have given. A similar situation can be found in Ovid s Metamorphoses, where Procne kills her son and serves him to her husband, Tereus, for dinner as retribution for the rape and mutilation of her sister (6.620 674). It is a particularly fitting punishment as it violates Tereus body in a similar manner, by forcing him to contain something unwanted, and allows Procne and Philomela to retake the control that was stolen from them. Not only do both mothers kill their children the one thing they have an inherent right to control ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Attention In Meinke s Advice To My Son The typical American dream consists of a white picket fence, a beautiful house, and a perfect family, but would that dream continue to exist with constricting economic and behavioral factors? More specifically, would a child s quality of life be disturbed by these issues? From day one, society is told that all they need to have a happy, successful life are the bare necessities, but recent studies and personal accounts have proven otherwise. The fragileness that surrounds a child s life has the opportunity to be influenced by outside, powerful forces such as a a parent s marital status, income, and devotion. Parents are given the role of a caretaker when they introduce a new being into the world; however, an increasing number of parents are ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As an infant, a child will wail out until their caretaker tends to their needs, so attention seeking is an attribute they are born with. However, when a child does receive this attention, they form a closer relationship with their parents. An occurrence of this happens in the short story Advice to My Son, when the father gives his son life changing advice. The father gives his son the advice to live his days as fruitful as possible and to make them last (Meinke 1 5). Without the closeness of this relationship, the father would not have given his son the meaningful advice, so the son would not repeat his mistakes. Having hope for his son, the father is able to relate, and it is because the father cares for his child and the child s wellbeing. According to The Urban Child Institute, ...parents and caregivers provide their young children with essential experiences that set a stable foundation for future health, social and emotional well being and academic achievement (A Parent s Attention is the Greatest Gift to Child). If a child were left in the forest with nobody to take care of him or her, they would surely succumb to their demise. Without a parent or a parent s love and affection, a child can not function the proper way it was made to. They need a teacher to help guide them through life and help them to ... • 4. Big Boy s History And The 5c Framework Introduction Representatives from Northlich and Frisch s expressed that over the 40 year life of the Frisch s Big Boy brand, Frisch s has neglected managing their marketing strategy and research. As a result, Frisch s marketing style has remained relatively unchanged for decades. Frisch s seeks to attract consumers in the millennial cohort. To implement the changes required to appeal to this new market, Frisch s will benefit from understanding the following elements of the 5C framework: company, climate, customers, collaborators, and competitors. This competitive analysis will contextualize Frisch s Big Boy s history and the 5C Framework to gain an understanding of Frisch s position and competencies in the chain restaurant industry. The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Climate Brand recognition is a powerful asset for these firms. To maintain recognition and manage cultural shifts, franchises in the full service sector often make subtle changes to their logos over time. These slight changes go unnoticed by the seasoned consumers, but appeal to emerging consumer segments and modern perceptions (see Appendix A). Northlich s makeover initiatives for Frisch s are valuable, positive changes to open the Frisch s aesthetic to new audiences (see Figure 1). Unfortunately, these changes did not occur over an extended period of time and are immediately visible for all consumers. These changes have faced opposition from older consumers as a result. Frisch s traditional marketing strategies are not suited for millennial consumers because the millennial market did not exist when the original marketing strategies were implemented. Changes, like up dating the Big Boy mascot, are necessary to appeal to Frisch s target millennial market. This industry is moderately regulated (Alvarez, 2016). The food industry as a whole, including full service restaurants have been affected by the public and political discussions of GMO (genetically modified organisms) food products. As millennial consumers become a larger, profitable consumer group; their high value for healthy and authentic food options becomes are more significant driver of success in the ... • 5. Gender Roles In Rebecca Solnit s Cassandra Amongst The... Hysteria derives from the greek work uterus. That notion refers to women everywhere having to live by the myth of gender roles. Most of the time these stereotypes turn into name calling which result in a harassment of words sticking long enough to the point where it s deemed as normal. The significance of that myth by people who endure verbal attacks correlates to how the rest of the crowd then perceives the judged. The consequences that follow are in the form of reputation creating these social norms that are unfair. In the tale Cassandra Amongst the Creeps, author Rebecca Solnit exemplifies the topic of how myths create social norms with the setting stone story of the goddess denying a Gods sexual request. As a result the curse of disbelief and tainted credibility of women was made normal as that myth stayed alive throughout history even to this day. In conjunction to Solnit, Lauren Holmes author of Barbara the Slut exhibits the modern setting of a high school to portray how impactful perception and credibility derived from that myth are. Both authors entertain how certain attitudes perpetuate future problems that can destroy characters esteem. Barbara s scarred credibility was in result of other people s false conscious of her character. Barbara the Slut s story represents the meaning of Solnit s belief of myth changing reality by exhibiting how women s sexuality is tied to perception, and how that perception changes individual s credibility and reputation. • 6. The Strange Death Of Silas Deane Summary Studying history can be an active, often arduous process, dependent on making assumptions with the evidence available and proving those assumptions to be correct or otherwise. But it can also be an easy task if done incorrectly, one of cutting corners and assuming falsehoods to be true for the sake of convenience. This is the way that many historians, amateur or professional, approach history. Not only does this approach exclude any possibility for well constructed conclusions to be made, it can also leave the populace ignorant of the truth. In The Strange Death of Silas Deane , James West Davidson and Mark Hamilton Lytle argue that history is not merely the act of collecting data rather of making assumptions about the data through the use of countless rhetorical questions, paragraph organization, and a sardonic tone. The Strange Death of Silas Deane retraces the story of Silas Deane, an early American politician, and the events that led up to his death. The authors begin by revealing the conclusion that most historians have made about the case: Deane committed suicide. Then, they steadily disprove that conclusion with a myriad of facts and interpretations. The essay provides a thorough recount of Deane s life and argues that Silas didn t commit suicide rather, he was murdered. To give weight to this hypothesis, the authors draw from reserves of knowledge about Deane and his closest friend, Edward Bancroft. After investigating Bancroft s life and his relationship with ... • 7. Influenza Will Cause The Next Pandemic Infectious diseases are constantly emerging and re emerging across the globe. These diseases can transfer from person to person directly or indirectly; by skin, blood, and or body secretions. It can also be transferred through contaminated food or water, and air. According to Heymann, The ones with the most risk are airborne. (Senthilingam, 2015). Therefore, I believe Influenza will cause the next pandemic. Reason being, the flu has the ability to disseminate before a person s symptoms become visible. Unlike Ebola and SARS, which are only contagious once symptoms emerge (Senthilingam, 2015). • 8. Compare And Contrast San Luis Obispo Two towns. Both located on the coast of California. Both are small, bounded by the ocean. Both hold around 40,000 citizens. One town, Martinez, is my hometown. The other, San Luis Obispo, is four hours south of it and home to my favorite college. On the outside, they seem pretty similar, but after experiencing the culture and lifestyle of each, one could not disagree with me when I say they are extremely different. The most notable differences are the coasts of each one, their downtown areas, and the activities provided by each city. The Martinez Marina is a quaint spot for a stroll or a picnic, but that s about it. The cold and constant wind takes away from the breathtaking views and it always seems to be overcast when I m down there. No ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The streets are silent every day except Sundays. On Sundays farmers, vendors, and cooks set up stands for the farmer s market. We get a reasonable turnout as people come from ten a.m. to two p.m. to buy their fruits and vegetables. Thursday nights are farmer s markets nights for San Luis Obispo. Citizens come weekly and vacationers will extend their stay to experience the well known event. The streets flood with people, food, and all sorts of smells. Eating dinner there is typical, and many linger and chat with friends and strangers alike. On the six other days of the week, unlike Martinez, the streets are not empty. There are hundreds of name brand stores and restaurants. People can shop with friends, chat in the plazas, stick their gum on the wall of bubblegum alley, or simply enjoy a stroll through the town. • 9. The Model Of Emergent Leadership Tuvia Bielski: The Model of Emergent Leadership in Edward Zwick s Defiance Have you ever been in a situation where you had to take charge, and take on leadership roles in a short period of time ? Some people may say that not everyone can be a leader. Some also believe that leaders are born with the necessary qualities, which make them successful as a leader. Others believe that leadership, like many other character traits, can be learned and developed through life. The debate depends on how you define leadership. A leader can be made in certain situations of survival. It can range from promoting what is right to perform social changes, or just to execute their own ideas. When you are a leader you gain a certain sense of independence, and pride that you started something. Therefore, when it s finished you get to show people that you were able to accomplish all of this. Watching the movie Defiance by Edward Zwick, I came across the character Tuvia Bielski. The movie unfolded a leader in front of our eyes. Tuvia became the leader of the partisan group. His characteristics that he possessed before he took his position, groomed him into the leader he was then. Tuvia Bielski became a leader because of the circumstances he found himself in. Defining Leadership Leadership means the period during which a person occupies the position of leader. A leader is someone who brings a group of people together, and directs them toward a common goal. Someone can easily ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 10. Plath s Effective Use of Characterization in The Initiation Millicent faces conflict the entire story, whether it was internal or external. Conflict was necessary, because it helps develop the characterization of Millicent and other characters in the story. Characterization is necessary, because it portrays Millicent s feelings toward the initiation and the character plot of other characters. Millicent is faced with a decision in the short story, whether to be initiated or not. The use of character plot and theme play a role in the final decision that Millicent makes. The author uses characterization and conflict effectively in the short story to create character plot and theme. Characterization is effectively used to create character plot and portray the theme of the story. This is effectively used by the author through Millicent s thoughts and through the use of other characters. For instance, Millicent continually tells herself that what girl wouldn t want to be elected like she was (Plath 240). She repeatedly tells herself ideas such as this, because she is trying to convince herself that she is making the right choice. Another instance is shown when Tracy tells Millicent that Millicent will change, whether she thinks she will or not (240). Through the words Tracy states, Millicent realizes that she is lying to herself. Consequently, through the earlier examples, the characterization of Millicent and other characters creates the character plot in the story. The character plot in the story shows how Millicent has to make a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 12. Epidermal Layer Of Skin Essay Epidermal and Dermal Layers of Skin in Relation to the Permanence of Fingerprints The tough, relatively thin outer layer of the skin, or epidermis is made up of five layers of keratinocyte cells. This outer layer of the skin acts as the bodies first natural form of defense by preventing most bacteria, viruses and foreign objects from penetrating the body. Additionally, the epidermis layer of skin works to protect internal organs in the body against trauma. The epidermal layer of skin present on the palms of the hands and the bottom of the feet are much thicker to provide additional protection due to the stratum corneum, the outer keratin layer of the epidermis. Melanocytes can be found in the deepest layer of the epidermis, the basal layer, its primary function is to protect DNA from harmful exposure to ultraviolet radiation from sunlight (Holder, Robinson Laub, 2011). ... • 13. Examples Of Tragedy In Death Of A Salesman American Tragedy Aristotle defines what a tragedy is in his famed piece Poetics. In it, he sets guidelines that all tragedies should meet in order to become the fantastic displays of misery that they are meant to be. Six main elements are present in every tragedy: plot, character, thought, diction, melody, and spectacle. The two most important, of course, were plot and character. Both had to be complex but believable, consistent, and possess the ability to arouse pity and fear in the audience. Although both are the top elements that are the focus of tragedy, the other four are imperative to achieve the tone and overall character of one. In Death of A Salesman by Arthur Miller, the character Willy Loman is an average modern American man ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... More than that, he wanted to become that man that he admired who died the death of a salesman in his green velvet slippers whose funeral garnered many loving friends and family (Miller 81). Audiences can relate as they too have had an idol in their head that they have aspired to become. Seeing the aspirations of Willy warrants pity in the audience when they see what a failure Willy Loman becomes. Failure is what consumes Willy. He understands that that is his life. But in his deep deluded mind twisted with broken memories and false hopes he can never truly accept it. He never has that point of discovery that a tragic hero does. Willy Loman never realizes the doom waiting for him at the end of his downward spiral. Even his attempts at suicide, and finally his one successful one, were misguided and were attempts to become something greater. No one shows up at the funeral besides his family. The Insolvency Of Human Nature And The Nomological Notion The Insolvency of Human Nature and the Nomological Notion: A Refutation of Machery As one examines Edouard Machery s A Plea for Human Nature, it is clear that there are a number of critical themes to examine within the nomological context set forth (Machery 2008). In a very salient sense, Machery posits that the set of characteristics that humans are most often inclined to posses, are indeed representative of human nature and are a consequence of the species evolution (Machery, pp. 3, ll. 56 58). Moreover, Machery puts forth that the existence of human nature does not circumscribe a tie within the human species (Machery, pp. 3 4, ll. 85 90). Herein, Machery also notes a class formation within a biological context that includes ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Yet in the case of the former, one can reason that what is deemed common sense, could easily vary across time and place, so as to make such judgments more akin to conjecture rather than fact. In the case of the latter, while apt modern sciences may in some regard be able to depict what anguish is from a physiological standpoint, quantifying the degree of physiological change and its resultant effects would be extremely variable and call in to question the arbitrary title of anguish. Indeed, empirical physiological results and common sense conjectures would likely fall on an enormous spectrum. For example, empirical data might detail some mean regarding hormonal levels, while themes regarding perception might feature general sensibilities formed by individuals and groups. To be sure, one would likely find a host of other factors in which one could confirm their own bias about the nature of anguish. Herein, such broad ranges of results would have not characterized anguish, human nature, or what people tend to posses, but rather merely that humans have fairly rudimentary and vacillating senses. • 16. Summary Of Electromyography Tennis elbow occurs when the wrist extensor tendon becomes inflamed as a result of overuse or repetitive trauma. A common treatment method is the prescription of a counterforce brace. Our research interest lies in determining the effectiveness of such a brace. With overuse and repetitive trauma playing such a huge role in the onset of this injury, it is therefore logical to examine the effect of the brace on muscular endurance and it s ability to delay the onset of fatigue. A review of relevant publications was completed to determine what findings have already been established. Electromyography (EMG) has been used throughout multiple studies, which is useful to quantify electrical activity within the muscle. We know that an increase in electrical ... Lehman Case Study Writeup Essay Organizational Power and Influence Lehman Case Analysis Lewis Glucksman who scrapped his way up through Lehman s unprestigious but increasingly profitable stock and bond trading department, was able to take control of the firm after a bitter power struggle against its former CEO, Peter Peterson. Glucksman was victorious in the end as he proved himself to be an indispensible part of Lehman s operations. During the times leading up to the power struggle, the power dynamic within Lehman was steadily shifting as trading profits became increasingly more important to Lehman versus traditional investment banking profits. Historically this has always been a formula for disaster. Justifications for the duality were unconvincing. Peterson was suppose to be the external client facing image of the company whereas Glucksman was suppose to be the internal executioner of operations. The division of duties may seem clear but it does not lead to a clear division of power. At the very top of a major Wall Street company, power must be clearly defined and completely authoritative. If it is not, then human nature and the nature of an organization will eventually find a way to define power. In this case, power was defined through duties and internal duties won over external duties. Also contributing to the outcome of the power struggle were structural features that existed across the financial industry. The whole industry is governed and motivated by profits generated through individual contribution irrespective of the firm s net performance. This particular industry structure results in the classic inter departmental tensions to maximize the individual department s profits. To a certain extent, Lehman had to comply with rest of the companies by creating the isolated departmental structure to maintain its top performers. As a result, when a department creates 60 80% of the firm s profit, the power shifts to the department making the most money. Very few individuals are found not criminally responsible on account of a mental disorder. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Since the discrete nature of the DSM relies on a yes no approach to classification, patient is either afflicted with a certain mental illness, or not. On the discussion of the not criminally responsible individual, this means that if an individual answers incorrectly or does not provide the right information, they may not be properly characterized under a certain disorder. This may not necessarily mean that the individual does not possess this certain disorder. Furthermore, disorders that have not yet been discovered by psychiatrist will not be found within the DSM manual. The obvious consequence for this would mean that individuals who have special types of disorders might not be diagnosed at all and if they are, they may be diagnosed under incorrect categories due to a lack of understanding. A second criticism of the DSM IV is that the cut off points for each disorder are often chosen with little empirical justification. Merely relying on the number of symptoms and the duration of which they appear could mean that those who do not meet the cut off points for a given category are simply funnelled into the criminal justice system without receiving the quality of mental health attention that they may require. In certain cases, having only two symptoms instead of the required three to possess a certain mental disorder would mean that you do not have that disorder at all. This sort of information should be considered as potentially being sufficient to leave someone in a position where they do not appreciate the nature and quality of their actions. Your every act should be done with love (1 Corinthians 16:14). Readers must read the first letter to the Corinthians as a whole book before attempting to understand the passage, because apostle Paul, the author of the text, provides readers with a thorough understanding into the life of an early Christian community of the first generation than any other book of the New Testament. Paul may have written more, but there are only two epistles documented in the New Testament with the other two included within the two canonical epistles, which he wrote to the Christian church in the city of Corinth. During the year 56, the community of Corinth was manifesting open factionalism: certain members were distinguishing themselves solely with individual Christian leaders, living publicly in an incestuous union, engaged in legal conflicts in pagan courts of law, participating in religious prostitution, and performing temple sacrifices. Patients enter the hospital with a physical problem and desire to leave with answers. In this type of environment the focus can be on the physical ailment rather than additional factors that may be contributing to physical distress. Environmental factors can promote well being or become a barrier to wellness. An ecological perspective provides a lens to view patient systems in a broader context. Ecological perspective is a useful framework in which to view the individual in context with their environment. According to Rogers (2013) ecological theory was originally developed by a psychologist, Urie Bronfenbrenner in 1979 (p. 42). A fundamental tenet of ecological theory is that people are actively involved with their environments and their perceptions of the environment significantly affects their well being (p. 42). Ecological theory describes four levels of the environment that interconnect and impact people. Moving from the most intimate individual system to a broader inclusion you can identify the many systems that play a role in individual s lives and well being. These interactions could be harmonious and create homeostasis or could be disharmonious and cause stress. First, the microsystem level encompasses roles and relationships in a person s immediate environment (Rogers, 2013, p. 43). For example, Maria s relationships and home living situation ...
