Kant On Enlightment
In the essay What is Enlightment? Immanuel Kant discusses his thoughts on enlightment and what it
takes for a society to reach it. In Kant s words, Enlightment is man s emergence from his self imposed
immaturity ; he uses the term immaturity as a way to describe someone who uses other peoples
thoughts to make up for their own instead of thinking for themselves. Kant then states that these
people are scared and lazy and choose to not think for themselves because they were never allowed to
in the first place so they became dependent on others thinking for them. However, Kant believed that
if a society was given freedom, they ll slowly be able to reach enlightment. Which is where public and
private use of reason come into place. Kant described

Abstract
Attribute reduction is a challenge in that is has a big e ect on classification accuracy as the classifier
training time, complexity and running time increases as a number of attributes used increases.
Commonly attributes in a given data set are correlated, noisy and redundant. In this work, a system for
attribute reduction was proposed making use of filter based attribute reduction using the correlation
based attribute reduction. The cuckoo search optimizer was used to search the attribute space of
attribute set with minimum correlation among selected attributes. By running the cuckoo search for a
predetermined ratio of iterations, the selected attribute sets are reevaluated using a new fitness
function based on wrapper based attribute reduction. The initial agents/solutions for this second stage
of optimization are guaranteed to have minor correlation and hence are the candidate for further
improvement towards the classification accuracy fitness function. So, the cuckoo search completes the
rest of optimization steps with the initial

Rising Us Unemployment and the Canadian Dollar
Is there a relationship between rising US unemployment and the rise of the Canadian dollar?
Canada s financial stability depends on the health of America s economy, as international trade
accounts for 45% of Canada s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) and 79% of exports are to the United
States. Canadian and American unemployment rates are positively correlated for that reason, as
exemplified in early 2009. Canada s unemployment rate quickly steepened as the United States rate
gradually increased to about 10% (refer to graph 1 and 2). During this time, Canada s growing trade
surplus became a deficit in only a few months (refer to graph 3). From this data, one can determine
that Canada s exports decreased rapidly due to rising economic ... Show more content on

If consumer spending and exports decrease, Canada s economy can decline simultaneously with the
American economy. As mentioned above, international trade accounts for 45% of Canada s GDP. On
April 1, 2011, the loonie hit a three year high after U.S. employment increased and the jobless rate
decreased. The dollar increase from a decrease in U.S. unemployment exemplifies America and
Canada s trading partnership and coinciding economies.
The strength of the U.S. economy is important for Canada s trade, economy and exchange rate.
Increasing U.S. unemployment can positively or negatively influence the value of the loonie. Canada s
dollar can increase due to demand from buyers looking to invest in a stable economy with low risk.
On the other hand, Canada s GDP is dependent on U.S. trade. If less Americans are purchasing goods
in Canada due to increased unemployment, the Canadian dollar will fall. Therefore, it is inconclusive
that unemployment rates solely influence the rise of the Canadian dollar. There are many other factors
that influence the exchange rate, such as commodity prices, investor confidence, overvalued currency
and inflation rates.

Company Overview of Garmin
Executive Summary In a span of 5 short years, GPS manufacturer Garmin has gone from a specialized
producer of niche equipment to a Wall Street champion in 2007. Since that time, the company has
diminished into a relative has been according to many analysts. For example, in late 2007 the Garmin
stock price reached a record high of over one hundred twenty dollars a share. However, in 2008, the
stock price fell below twenty dollars a share and today the stock rests in the mid forties after a mild
recovery from the fifty two week low. This analysis looks into the financial aspect of Garmin and
draws parallels to the overall trends in the industry. Although the company could have managed some
aspects of the business better, the fall of Garmin s financial attractiveness cannot be entirely attributed
to the company itself. Company Overview Garmin is a worldwide provider of navigation,
communication, and information devices as well as their related applications which are all associated
somehow to Global Positioning System (GPS) technology. The company offers products around the
globe through subsidiary operations however the parent organization is located in Taiwan. There are
four broad categories in which individual products within the company s product mix can be labeled;
the automotive, outdoor/fitness, marine, and aviation represent the categories of products the company
offers. Figure 1 GPS Market Share Data for 2007 (Fletch, 2008)Figure 1 GPS Market Share

Essay on Mitigating Disasters in Developing Countries
The focus of this essay however will be on developing countries and the alternatives available to
mitigate natural and man made disasters that are available to policymakers. Developing countries are
in general countries which have not achieved a significant degree of industrialization relative to their
populations, and which have, in most cases a medium to low standard of living. There is a strong
correlation between low income and high population growth In today s globalized nation, countries
are categorized either as a developed or developing nation. This form of categorization is based on the
country s social, political and economical status, that is, their earning powers, standard of living and
their type of governance. In ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Most developing countries, especially the smaller states were once colonized by Western industrial
states and hence, have felt the impact of exploitation and deprivation from their strong colonial
powers; in fact, they are still governed with similar social, political, economical and cultural traits
which up to today have a major influence on their social well being. They rely relentlessly on these
developed nations, hence the tardiness in their developmental process. One tend to get the feeling that
there is some amount of inferiority among the citizens of developing countries as they have inherited
what is termed a dependency syndrome still lagging among them. Because these developing countries
are so poverty stricken, lack basic resources, proper governmental structures, a non existence of rules
and regulations and the lack of proper enforcement of policies, they tend to be more vulnerable to
disasters. Disaster in this sense is an event, focused in time and space in which societies suffer
extensive damages and injuries to property, natural landscape, infrastructure and massive loss of lives
termed as natural and man made disasters (McDonald, 2003). As a resultant from these disasters,
prospect for future development are prevented and there is also

Switzerland Legal System Essay
Switzerland s legal system is reliant on a civil law tradition and thus is dependent on written codes
which is held as a primary source for statements of law with authority. Going back in history it is
shown that civil law is composed of a group of legal ideas and systems stemmed from a collection of
fundamental works in jurisprudence, cloaked by Napoleonic, Germanic, canonical, feudal and local
practises including doctrinal strains such as natural law, codification and legal positivism. Swiss
foreign policy has since 1815 been governed by the principle of neutrality, so they did not support or
aid either side to a conflict and remained impartial during the first and second World War. England s
law on the other hand was made by judges sitting in courts thus known as common law so has become
more like Switzerland as legislation has stated to overtake judicial law making. Their laws are seen to
be dominated by statutory law, which generate general principles and sets aside functional and
procedural rules. Unlike the United Kingdom judicial decisions are not rated as high. Switzerland is a
federal union, meaning civil procedure and the make up of the judiciary are governed by state law of
26 cantons, in unifying the various cantonal rules enshrines the rights to take part in decision making
process s on Federals state level, having equal share in the central legislator. Switzerland is also not a

Why I Would Be A Good Teaching Assistant
The reason I think I would be a good teaching assistant is because I have the fundamental of helping
out the lead teacher. Recently I had to write a essay on why I wanted to be a teacher. So down below is
my essay on why I want to become a teacher.
The reason why I want to teach is because of the essential and noble profession. Next to parents, I
think teacher are important foundational element in our society. Being a teacher would show me the
value, knowledge, and character to be a figure for children to look up to. The important thing is the
proper preparation and the fundamental to living a full and rewarding life. A teacher is defined as
someone who gives instruction and communicates skills. Teachers enhance the lives of our young
children by using their teaching methods to deliver valuable information, which will serve the purpose
throughout their lives.
One of my favorite memories as a high or middle school student was that I looked up to my teachers. I
was so excited the first time I went to volunteer in a fourth grade class. I wanted to be a teacher for
many reasons, but I think the biggest reason of all is my love for children in general. After
volunteering in a elementary classroom, I got to move up and sit in a middle school classroom that
consist of 6 8th graders who has Autism Spectrum Disorder. Each of those students have a different
levels of disabilities. Working with autistic children opened my mind to different opportunity to learn.

Introduction:
The Domain Name System (DNS) is the system (or agent) responsible for resolving Domain Names
(such as www.google.com) to IP Addresses (such as 212.0.130.23), which is required to make the
Internet usable. This resolution list is distributed throughout the Internet in a hierarchy of authority.
There s normally a DNS server hosted by ISPs (Internet Service Providers) to serve their clients
(Rouse 2005). The basic operation of DNS in a single Internet resource request is shown in Figure 1
(AFNIC 2009). It functions like a database that is distributed over DNS machines that interact with
each other to be able to respond to a user s query. The top of the DNS hierarchy contains the top level
domains, such as .com, which are controlled by top level DNS servers. The DNS server
implementation which is used for this paper is BIND, which is the most widely used DNS server
implementation on the Internet today.
The Attack Surface of the DNS System:
The following are the general categories of attacks on DNS Servers, in terms of the nature of the
vulnerable target, which give the attacker the ability to impact on the normal behaviour of the DNS
Server and the Internet:

Marcus Aurelius And Stoicism
After the death of Aristotle, philosophy that targeted greater complex depths was outrun by philosophy
that focused on mere everyday lives. With the rise and fall of Skepticism, Cynicism, and Epicureanism
there was an influence that survived years impacting life and that was Stoicism. Zeno of Citium who
believed that the world had an ultimate plan and everything including nature, animals, and humans,
were there for a reason (Hergenhahn Henley, 2014, p. 66). The reason Stoicism was easily used is
because it was well suited with the way Romans highlighted their law and order giving the extensive
coverage displayed by many philosophers, including Marcus Aurelius. Marcus Aurelius, was born in
121 C.E. Growing up his focus of education was overseen by Emperor Hadrian and soon taken over
by Emperor Antonius teaching him more of a rhetoric (Sellars, 2002). As the years progressed he
shifted in to a study of philosophy leading to him becoming what we know as one of the most
important Stoic philosophers. Marcus Aurelius became an emperor in A.D. 160 lasting to A.D.180. he
was working closely with Lucius Verus in 169 and his son Commodus in 177 (Crook, 2017). Marcus
Aurelius later passed away in A.D. 180, yet his most personal literature is still read today, Meditations.
Marcus Aurelius and his philosophies were composed down in a collection of his intimate writings
titled Meditations. The compilations and stories that Meditations follows are the influence of Stoicism

Descriptive Essay About Anime Essay
It was a hot Friday afternoon around mid July. While most girls would be sunbathing at the beach or
shopping with friends, you were at your favorite place: the book store. Specifically, the manga section.
Ever since you were introduced to your first anime, you had been hooked on the genre: the art style,
the music, the storylines. That was probably one of the reasons you decided to spend a summer in
Japan of all places. However, there may have been another reason you were drawn to Japan. The day
you arrived, you had been walking to the cheap hotel you would call home for the next three months,
when a group of high school boys ran into you. You immediately lost control of the suitcase, tripping

have to go right now! Wait, what? You need to meet Rohan! You know him? Yeah, he s a stand user?
WHAT THE HELL?! Koichi was dragging you out of the store. What the helm had you gotten
yourself into? Guido Mista Why was it that people always asked what do you want to be when you
grow up? How were you supposed to know. Even if you knew with all your heart you wanted to be a
marine biologist, one day you might wake up and decide that playing the tuba was your passion. All in
all, you just liked to take things as they came. And that was why you were here. Why not take a trip to
Italy? Maybe you d like learning a new language, maybe you d become a renaissance art historian. It
was just something new to explore, and your parents even agreed to fund it (because, this was a purely
educational trip, of course). You were stopping at a small café for a (very educational) coffee and a
bite to eat. As you sat down at the outside table, hanging your purse on the back of your seat, you two

Immanuel Kant View On Morality
Immanuel Kant is known as the famous German philosopher who argued two main points in his
philosophy: that the human mind creates the structure of the human experience and that reason is the
source of morality. More specifically, Kant used his philosophy to argue that in order to figure out
what is the right thing, we must rely on reason. Unlike several other philosophers, Kant refused to use
religion as a method to know what the law was to determine right and wrong, because he believed it
was all knowable based on our intellect. Kant s key principle throughout his philosophy is to assert
that the only way a person can achieve good will is by accomplishing it through duty.
Throughout his paper, Kant explains that in the world, there is a constant battle between the
conditional and the unconditional goods. He begins by describing that there are three conditional
goods that can be turned evil by humans such as the gifts of fortune (wealth, health), talents of mind
(intelligence), and good outcomes. To counteract this, he describes that there is only one unconditional
good; the good will, which can only be executed by duty. When described by Kant, duty means that a
person does the right thing for no other reason than because it is the right thing to do.
To be able to reach this point, Kant used the process of elimination between inclination, prudence, and
duty. In his paper, Kant explains that a person cannot achieve good will if they use inclination (what
you desire) because to him, this doesn t constitute moral actions. For example, in Kant s eyes a parent
who takes care of their children because is what they desire to do because they love them shouldn t be
morally praised because they are doing it for themselves rather than doing it because they
acknowledge they have an obligation and it is the right thing to do to fulfill that obligation. He
continues and goes on to refute prudence (rational self interest). To better understand this concept, we
can think of the example of a lady who believes she can earn a greater income if she cheats her
customers, but refuses to do so, not because she knows it s the wrong thing, but because she fears
being caught and losing her customers. By providing this example,

Rape In War
As time and history have progressed, the institution of media has captured and held control over the
public ideology. In this modern capitalistic age, the power held over the media as developed and been
re directed. The media acts as the key distributor and translator of the ideology within our society
throughout history and in the present day. However, the context in which we communicate is
changing, and with this, the relationship and interaction between politics, media and public life have
altered (Blair, T 2007). Changed to an extent where the information being relayed may indeed be
harmful to society, in the absence of objective, complete and accurate relaying of information (Blair, T
2007). Though the free society that we operate in does ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Rape in wartime is as old as war itself and is considered an expected outcome of such violent conflict
(Bracewell 2000). The sexual invasion of a woman s body is the ultimate act in emasculating her
husband and eliciting turmoil in the community (Boose 2002, pp. 73) as it undermines the warrior and
displays his inability to protect his territory , particularly if performed in front of him. This
performance of terrorisation and humiliation was particularly prevalent in the Red Army s invasion of
Germany in World War Two, where the degradation ceremony would only occur in the presence of
witnesses (Johnson 2002). Not only this but the widespread rape of a nation s women is an attack on
the symbolic ideology of a nation (Gottschall J, 2004). A nation s women embody its core values and
are seen a beacons of purity and thus are marked as an enemy target, a territory to be to be conquered
(Mostov 1995). Its effects are akin to bombings, gassing and other genocidal acts, which has allowed
for the evolution of wartime rape into a key, systematic weapon of war, particularly in regards to its
long term consequences. The methodical rape of Tutsi women during the Rwanda Genocide was
implemented with the strategic intent to infect victims with HIV (Nduwimana 2004). This genocidal
act was deliberately enacted to deliver harm that is worse death, to heighten the suffering and
destruction of communities and humiliation of men. Villages were forced to watch some if not all of
their women fall prey to the disease, an on going reminder of the times of war and the nightmarish
acts that transpired (Nduwimana 2004). Rape in times of violence is indeed a historical phenomenon
based upon the expression of power and dominance. It has occurred persistently in human civilisation,
regardless of location,

Smoking Facts
Smoking in today s world is much different then what it used to be. The thoughts of smoking have
changed from good to bad. Many people believe that smoking is beneficial for their everyday lives
while others want nothing to do with it. In this paper I will be discussing the: the history of smoking,
the advantages/benefits of smoking, the disadvantages/risks of smoking, the components of cigarettes,
and the regulations regarding the production and sale of cigarettes. Tobacco is a plant that grows
natively in North and South America. It is in the same family as the potato, pepper and the poisonous

R. Reynolds also expands their brands buying Nabisco, who is famous for the popular cookie Oreo,
and becoming RJR/Nabisco. In 1990 Ben and Jerry Ice Cream boycotts RJR/Nabisco and drops Oreos
from its ice cream goods. Even though we are told the negative sides of tobacco many do not tell us if
there are any advantages of smoking. The tobacco plant has more to offer then just a certain death.
Tobacco may provide a different relief or prevention for some diseases in certain individuals. The
most recognized health benefit of smoking is its ability to seemingly improve symptoms of mental
illness, including anxiety and schizophrenia. People with these mental illnesses use smoking as a self
medicating kind of method. Several academic sources confirm that the risk of Parkinson s disease and
Alzheimer s disease is unexpectedly superior in non smokers than in smokers. The University of
Melbourne established that tobacco itself is a strong appetite suppressant and many were using it to
self treat compulsive overeating disorders and obesity. Cigarette smoking has also been linked to a
decrease in risk of certain inflammatory disorders, since nicotine itself appears to be an anti
inflammatory agent (Russo, 2011, p.1). Because of tobacco smoke being anti inflammatory some
beneficial effects come to children who are exposed to secondhand smoke. Sweden observed two
generations of Swedish children and found that the

Obtaining Motion Blur Parameters Form The Frequency Spectrum
Fourier transform is applied on digital images to interprets their content in terms frequency
information. To illustrate, Flat areas, where the intensity is slowly changing, result in low frequencies.
Rough areas, on the other hand, result in high frequencies because of the dramatic change in the
intensity value. this paper discusses the impact of manipulating the frequency information of digital
images and how the frequency spectrum can be used to address a real world situation.
Filtering an image in the frequency domain is usually composed of three steps. First, the Fourier

Huei and Kun [2] proposed that the speed of moving objects in a single image can be estimated using
the blur parameters, the camera parameters and imaging geometry. To illustrate, the displacement of a
moving object (d) can be determined using similar triangles according to the blur length (k) Figure2.
And by knowing the shutter speed of the camera (T), the speed of the object is v =d/T(1). Since this
paper is concerned with Fourier Transform, the details of equation (1) are omitted and calculating the
blur parameter is detailed below.
The blur parameters, including the blurs direction and length, can be determined by examining their
impact on the Fourier spectrum. As shown in figure, the Fourier spectrum of the motion blur contains
strips of dark lines that are parallel and uniformly separated. Note that the Fourier spectrum depends
on the objects orientation; so the direction of the motion blur could be extracted from the frequency
spectrum. Also, as the blurs length increase, the edges get smoother, resulting in lower frequency
response. These observations suggest that the frequency spectrum has all the needed information to
determine the blurs parameters. In particular, the object shown in the figure is moving along the
horizontal axis, and this caused the vertical orientation of the dark lines in the frequency spectrum.
Furthermore, increasing the blurs length, which can be achieved by increasing the object s speed,
lessens the distance

Essay on Control Theory Corporate Crime
Conflict theory primarily argues that it is the economic system of capitalism itself that produces crime
however, in order to understand the causes of corporate crime, the neoliberal framework and its
utilization must be examined. Neoliberalism accords the state not to intervene or regulate the market,
and in effect produces inequality but most importantly crime. Criminal acts are committed by the
elites that are following the core of the neoliberal doctrine which is maximizing profits while
minimizing costs. Corporate crimes are committed by executives or executive officers on behalf of
corporations to further their own interests or the interest of the organizations . These crimes can result

This result in a conflict between the culture of competition and ethical standards however,
corporations are not like humans they are artificial legal entities with perpetual life chartered by the
government for their existence (Nadar, 2004; pg 8). Corporations have achieved a status where they
have all constitutional rights that people have except the right against self incrimination. Corporations
engage in criminal activites on a number of different levels that harm and affect the general public
however, the public for the most part remains unaware of these activites because these elites invest in
hiding the truth which thereby renders their actions invisible.
THE INVISBALITY OF COPRORATE CRIME Secondly, Marxists argue that is it the connected
ability of the powerful to manipulate values of society which is why corporate crimes are rendered
invisible. Academics find it difficult to analyze corporate crime because large scale survey data is not
available so researchers have to rely on non objective crime statistics collected by impartial
government agencies such as StatsCan or the Home Office which usually yield tiny samples (Snider,
2005; pg 186). Corporations do not want sociologist investigating their business practises, unlike
traditional offenders they have the ability to resist such incursions. On the other hand, the justice

On October 7th, 1916, Hitler received a server would to the leg resulting from a shell blast, while
stationed near Bapaume. He was then sent to convalesce at Beelitz, where he healed up. When he had
recovered from the injury he went on a trip to nearby Berlin, for some sight seeing. The capital was
suffering from food shortages, and that combined with long working hours for the munition workers
caused work strikes to occur. This is seen as the real reason behind the fall of Germany, a lack of food
and thus lack of mutations. After witnessing this all Hitler labeled them cowards and traitors, showing
no empathy for their plight. The lack of morale for the war was sickening for him and depressed him

How Teams Of Organizations Develop Into Cohesive Teams
The manner in which people interact in groups professionally impacts the productivity of each
member as well as the organizational climate. Few professions require an employee to work
independently of others. Instead, we must work as a part of a team. Understanding how teams of
people interact in the accomplishment of tasks are critical to management teams. In this article,
Farrell, Schmitt, and Heinemann (2001) gathered from a sample of 111 interdisciplinary health care
teams in geriatrics in 34 Veterans Affairs medical centers in the United States to test team
development theories.
The process in which groups develop into cohesive teams was at the center of the article. Farrell,
Schmitt, and Heinemann (2001) noted that frequently, teams are plagued with repeated conflicts, low
morale, and poor task performance. Many theorists have argued that, before an interdisciplinary team
can establish the open communication, flexibility in leadership, and coordination of efforts necessary
for effective functioning, it must pass through a sequence of developmental stages (281). Farrell,
Schmitt, and Heineman (2001) referenced Tuckman and Jensen s group development stages in which
they refer to the stages as (a) testing and dependency, or the forming stage, (b) conflict, or the
storming stage, (c) cohesion and consensus, or the norming stage, and (d) functional role relatedness,
or the performing stage (p. 282). During their study, the thesis that they attempt to

The Importance Of Trauma In Children
It pointed out that a child can sense a trauma very easily in another person even if that person is trying
to cover it up. The article showed that kids who grow up with caregivers that are suffering from a
trauma often feel that trauma for themselves, for example a parent exhibiting depression often times
leads to a child feeling depression which is why I believe a person with a caregiver suffering from
mental illness is more likely to suffer from that same illness. To me this explains statistics associated
with susceptibility of children to have similar issues as their parents. Children also learn their coping
mechanisms from their parents which can lead to the same types of problems.
Another form of trauma that can very easily effect the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

In his transition period between getting his practice up and running and finishing his Master s, Mr.
Rubino worked as a prison psychologist which he described as an eye opening experience to why
exactly people commit crimes. He described his eye opening experience as a result of dealing with
inmates. He initially detested many of the inmates due to the fact that many times that they would

In his prison experience he described that every single inmate he talked to had some sort of history of
personal trauma. This made me think that trauma may be directly linked with criminal behavior. Mr.
Rubino went on to tell me that one inmate in particular had the most positive demeanor and seemed to
really have him self together compared to the group he was among in prison. However, he was one of
the people who Mr. Rubino found was most commonly stealing

The Groundwater Of California Is A Serious Policy Matter
The groundwater of California is a serious policy matter in legislation. If there is drought, such as
years like this, then management is necessary because it may encourage more pumping to supplant the
water not gathered from other resources. Groundwater can account for as much as 35% of all the
water used by California (cite). Unfortunately, there are not many laws established to regulate
groundwater. The basins can replenish if they are pumped on a limited basis during normal or peak
years. Luckily, proposals have been brought forth to help regulate ground water basins to insure their
use is efficient and does not harm the environment.
Groundwater basins are able to store massive amounts of waters and are great to have during droughts,

There are some proposals that are favorites to be pushed through legislation that can help start the
process of managing our groundwater usage.
The local agriculture groups do not want the state to manage the groundwater based on their
management of the surface water (cite). So far, all the proposed plans have the local entities being in
charge of their groundwater. Governor Brown has proposed his Water Action Plan , which is a series
of actions that the local entities should perform. Another significant proposal is bill SB 1168, which is
making its rounds in legislation and is authored by Senator Pavley. Each plan has its own merits that
will be explored.
Governor Brown s Water Action Plan is very clear and concise plan for the local governments to
follow when managing the groundwater. The plan has a clear definition of the challenges that are
present for the use water. There is a brief overview of the challenges and how the plan will address the
issues. The first proposed a plan is for the administration to increase the funding and expand the
California Statewide Groundwater Elevation Monitoring Program, which provides essential data to
characterize the state s groundwater basins, including identifying basins in decline (cite). This will

without any influence or pressure from either a family member or clinician. In addition, the capacity

Analysis of Karen Russell
Analysis of Karen Russell s St. Lucy s Home for girls Raised by Wolves St. Lucy s Home for girls
Raised by Wolves, Karen Russell s collection of fantastical short stories take all that is mundane and
fractures it into a fantastical world with humor, dramatic tone, or cultural/religious undertones. Russell
whirls a reader into her stories with her capability to encase a reader in the story with her repetition of
one s senses. Constantly brining in the senses of a reader brought in the smells of a surrounding from
the protagonist or in this case the narrator. In St. Lucy s Home for girls Raised by Wolves, our
narrator, Claudette, speaks from the mind of a half human half wolf in transition. Of the pack s

Claudette becomes known as the protagonist and narrator shortly after this switch. After every sense,
emotion, and interaction was a pack experience, for Russell to cut this tie and create a story that is of
an individual is a subtle experience at first; from a united thought process that slowly turn individual
to self centered and selfish. This is apparent in Claudette s frame of mind towards her little sister
Mirabella, from the pack worrying about Mirabella (230) to Claudette singular thoughts and emotions
toward her littlest sister . This switch epitomizes the coming to age alone tone that Russell creates,
initially the pack protected each other, thought as one, and were connected in every way till they
adapted to the new environment, becoming singular units growing up isolated from each other snarl at
one another for no reason (229) becoming accustomed to thinking individually as an independent
person. These stories although diverse in content and storyline Russell connects each to another
almost subconsciously. They share similar struggle of coming of age stories, stories of isolation in the
first person that reveal one trait or another within the battle. Despite the fact that is the same reasoning
with each story it has a new outcome, therefor the stories are not repetitive while the elements used
might be. Russell s constant use of senses or imagery of hands and feet do not subtract from the story
but heighten them. Russell

The Artist s Toolbox Analysis
To evaluate an artist s message, we must first examine the physical characteristics of the artwork. The
specific features that should be examined will vary depending on the form of art, but let us consider
paintings for this example. The angles of the lines, the colors used, the arrangement of the figures, the
size of the work, the amount and direction of the lighting, and numerous other physical characteristics
can provide critical clues both to the historical context of the painting and to the artist s underlying
message (Clevenger. Module 3, The Artist s Toolbox: The Elements of Visual Art, p. 2). When
combined with an understanding of the time period in which the painting was created, the physical
features can help us determine whether ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

most of the younger members of our society. Popular music and television shows, if they contain any
messages at all, promote shallow, feel good truths at best, and anti Biblical propaganda at worst. As
Christians, we must become aware of the deeper questions posed by real artwork. Once we have a
grasp of the questions being asked and have evaluated the suggested answers from the perspective of a
Christ centered worldview, we should then expose our children to uplifting artwork and discuss the
value of the messages that those works express. I am not yet married, and thus I recognize that the
passage of time and new experiences may change the approach I now propose. Nevertheless, I
currently plan to expose my future children to fine literature, especially poetry, so that they will be

Assyrian Empire Essay
For a few centuries after the death of Shamshi Adad I, Assyrian cities were subjugated by a succession
of outsiders: Babylonians under Hammurabi, Hittites and Mitanni Hurrians. From 1791 to 1360 A.D.
control over Assyria passed back and forth, although Assyria itself remained more or less stable. After
a power struggle between the Hittites and Mitanni, the Hittites successfully broke the power of the
Mitanni in the region. Assyria then began to take control over territories that had belonged to Mitanni.
The Hittites battled with the Assyrians, but the Assyrian king Ashur Uballit stamped out any
remaining Mitanni or Hittite control over northern Mesopotamia.
The Middle Empire
King Ashur Uballit, who ruled from c. 1353 to 1318 B.C., succeeded in gathering all former Mitanni
regions under his control. He also battled the Hurrians, Hittites and the Kassite king of Babylon. Ashur
Uballit married his daughter to the Babylonian king, angering the Babylonian people. They promptly
slew the king and replaced him with a pretender to the throne. King Ashur Uballit then invaded
Babylon, killed the pretender and placed another Kassite royal on the throne. King Ashur Uballit
solidified his power by conquering any remaining Hittite or Mitanni rulers, finally taking ... Show

An Inferential Analysis of Hemingway s Hills Like White...
In Hemingway s Hills Like White Elephants I found many layers of symbolism, and a fascinating
psychological underplay afoot between his two characters. It begins with the girl s comment about a
line of white hills seen in the distance, which she compares to white elephants. The man responds with
the comment I ve never seen one.
The symbolism of a white elephant is widely known as something very large or apparent that no one
wishes to acknowledge or speak of in American society. It is an interesting opening to a very strained
conversation concerning an apparent pregnancy, and the man s wish to terminate it. The couple s
careful avoidance of actually naming the problem, or the proposed solution, suggests the situation in
which a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
She gives up trying to communicate her feelings at this point, and asks him to stop talking about it. He
responds to this nervously, repeating that he doesn t want her to do it, it doesn t matter to him. The girl
then threatens to scream; one might think she is tired of his craven disassembling. At that point, the
waitress tells them the train is due in five minutes. The man escapes with the bags, carrying them to
the other tracks. This portion might suggest another symbolic element in the story. Just as the two
have switched their life course, they are now switching trains, heading down a set of tracks carrying
them towards a different outcome. He retreats to the bar inside, where he has a drink alone while
looking at the people waiting reasonably for the train , then rejoins Jig, who smiles at him. And so the
struggle between Jig and her lover is resolved. He has won, and she has given up her dream. The
elements of the story suggested a carefree couple that traveled and drank their way across foreign
landscapes together, with no responsibilities, until suddenly, they faced one of the biggest
responsibilities of all. Hemingway s depiction of their conflict is in my opinion a stunning expose of a
scenario that is all too common in the human tradition, rife with assumptions and masterful in its

How Technology Has Developed And Integrated Systems Of...
I have always been fascinated by the magnificent way humans have developed and integrated systems
of people, money, knowledge, information and energy. Growing up, I was incredibly curious to
unravel how devices function, and this curiosity developed into a burning desire to learn how
processes, systems, and organizations operate and run our world.
From an early age I used to read science books, journals, magazines and watch engineering
documentaries driven by my eagerness to gain a better understanding of the mechanism by which our
world system is working.
I completed my Bachelor degree in Industrial Engineering, the program was a blend of mathematics,
operation management, lean manufacturing, quality control and engineering economics applications.
All through my Bachelor program, I was attracted to the idea of developing a more effective technique
to generate power of the solar system using smart technology.
Driven by a desire to tackle the global warming phenomenon, I decided to carry out my final year
project work on a solar power generation device, where I came up with an innovative method and
designed a dual axis model which used the solar power to operate and produce renewable energy with
improved efficiency. Whilst pursuing my Bachelor degree I worked for Rimth Company LTD, a
contracting and trading private company, for three years.

What Can Government Do to Mitigate the Chinese Style of Picking up Children?
There are streams of people and cars busily coming and going everyday to pick up children in front of
the school entrance of Bei Heng Primary School, Xin Cheng District, Hohhot, causing an annoying
traffic jam.
经统计,北垣小学共有3000多名师生,每天上下学接送孩子的车辆有
1500多辆, 而校园周边的停车位不足200个。(11月26日《北方新报》)
(my translation, According to figures, there are 3000 teachers and students in the aggregate in Bei
Heng Primary School. However, the number of cars coming to pick up children achieve to more than
1500 while there are only less than 200 parking spaces nearby. As noted by North New Newspaper on
Nov. 26th, 2014.) (Mao Kaiyun)
In striking contrast, hardly any parent would pick up children in Japan where the urban morphology,
traffic condition, population and so on are the very image of China. Instead, Japanese children go to
school and return home on foot in a well ordered way. They go to the nearest school with walking time
from 15 minutes to 20 minutes. Besides, students would form a small group spontaneously to
accompany each other. (Pei Jun) As reported by the Global Times, the 24th edition. There is no doubt
that Japan has done a great job since they take some effective measures already.

countries. What happens in Hohhot is

Analysis Of The Poem Upon The Burning Of Our House
Since its early days, America has had strong core values based in Christian theology, European
traditions, and Western ideals and morals. The Christian religion (and its many varying tendrils) has
helped unify our nation for centuries. The founders of what is today the United States of America
came over to this continent avoiding persecution for their religion from European powers. While there
have been plethora wars and struggles across Europe over religion, thankfully they have never showed
their face in America, although it is most certainly a part of our heritage. However, it can not be said
that Christianity is the only influence that has been exerted on the American culture. Pagan and secular
traditions and superstitions have been passed from ancient Greece to ancient Rome, then from the
wreckage of those empires in Europe, and carried on all the way through the Dark Ages to 1600 s
pilgrims who carried their culture to a new continent: North America. A remarkably early American
poet was Anne Bradstreet, who wrote the poem Upon the Burning of Our House, which is a tribute to
God. The most important and obvious value that Bradstreet emphasizes in her poem is her devotion to
God. Throughout this poem she mentions him seven times as being her support and lord. In the second
stanza she prays that god will strengthen me in my distress. This demonstrates to us that she trusts
God to take care of her, despite the extreme traumatic experience she just endured. She uses

Advertising And Advertising
Media has become a part of our everyday lives. From the first moment we wake up to the last moment
we go to sleep we are always exposed to media. Media usage and consumption has drastically
changed from a way to receive information to a bombardment of products and companies. Television,
radio, movies, and magazines are all examples of different mediums used for media transmittance.
The average person is exposed to more than 4000 advertisements each day (Colette, 2015). Media has
four key purposes that include the expression of an opinion, educating the audience, persuading
viewers to purchase the merchandise and to entertain in order to maintain the consumers interest.
Before this course, I never realized that companies use different strategies in order to attract viewers.
Some of the strategies used are celebrity endorsements, simulating perfection, feminine sexuality,
product placement, and the advancement of technology. There are many different media outputs in
society, I feel the most influential to me are television commercials and social media. These outputs
ensure that the company s message is being seen by the mass population. Apple as an example always
attracted me to their products based on the strive for the newest technology. Apple uses the strategies
of new technology aswell as celebrity endorsement in television commercials, movies and social
media in order to promote their newest products (Verdugo, 2014). I learnt that Apple utilizes perceived

Unnecessary Stigm Bdsm Relationships
Unnecessary Stigma: BDSM Relationships
With the rise of books like Fifty Shades of Grey, there are many questions being asked about what the
real effects of BDSM (bondage and discipline, dominance and submission, sadism and masochism
(sadomasochism)) relationships are on participants (Turley et al 123, McDonald). There s the question
of where the boundary between abuse and recreational play is drawn, where the psychological
implications of the relationship becomes too much for the individual, but all of that can be boiled
down to just a few points to explore. In order to really understand what all comes with these
relationships, we must look at the experiences of participants, seeking to understand what BDSM is,

Black gives them to us: SSC, or Safe, Sane, Consensual, and RACK, or Risk Aware Consensual Kink.
The latter really becomes important when individuals engage in play that involves things like drugs,
where the risks can be considered no longer safe for SSC to apply (Black). Once the understanding of
limits, both soft and hard, has been reached, and the participants have given consent, play like that
between Tom and Joe can begin. As Stear points out, the scenes that are engaged in are a form of make
believe, one that gets very involved with the body, pleasure, and possibly even pain, but they are a
fantasy nonetheless (29). Tom isn t actually a puppy, but pretending to be, getting so lost in the
headspace that, for a time, he experiences the world as if he were a puppy, giving him a break from the
stresses of human life (Turley et al 130). It is with this understanding of what the scenes are made of,
along with what they are built upon, that we can begin to focus on what BDSM is for an individual.

Carrie Fisher Research Paper
Carrie Fisher was born on October 21, 1959 in Los Angeles. She was born into Hollywood royalty.
Her mother was Debbie Reynolds, a famous Hollywood actress and her father was Eddie Fisher a
famous American singer and actor. Carrie Fisher became something of a celebrity herself when she
starred in Star Wars (1977) becoming more than a famous actor, but an American icon. Carrie Fisher s
image of Princess Leia is recognizable to people who have never even seen a Star Wars film. She
became an instant world star. Yet, with all the success Carrie Fisher had a dark secret. She was ill. She
wasn t going to die, but she was mentally ill suffering from bipolar disorder (Memoirs 12). This would
plunge her into a life of drug abuse and depression that put her life at risk. Eventually, she stopped
trying to hide her illness, and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Debbie Reynolds was Carrie Fisher s mother. They had a very close relationship. Debbie Reynolds
never ignored her children, even when they got into trouble, often making excuses for them instead of
holding them accountable. Carrie got into a lot of trouble with drugs and alcohol (Shockaholic 3). Her
mother instead of shunning her daughter when things got tough she showered them with attention
believing it was her erratic lifestyle that was causing Carrie s problems, but it was something more.
Debbie became her best friend hoping she could cure Carrie s as of yet mental illness, and they both
became inseparable. They both went to events and together where they sang live on stage. Yet, Carrie
s condition, even after STar Wars fame, worsened. Soon it became obvious that Carrie Fisher had
emotional problems and Debbie Reynolds efforts to help her by keeping her near was failing (Memoir
56). This led to a close relationship which helped Carrie cope when it became apparent that Carrie has
an emotional disorder, bipolar

Hyperthyroidism Occurs When The Thyroid Gland
Hyperthyroid Disease Hyperthyroidism occurs when the thyroid gland, a butterfly shape in front of the
neck, overproduces thyroid hormone. The thyroid gland is abundant with blood vessels and it secretes
thyroid hormone (Kumar 22). Thyroid hormone influences many different internal body functions
such as, metabolism, growth, development, turning food into energy, and increases body temperature.
Thyroid hormone is very important for brain development and normal growth during infancy;
furthermore, a newborn s blood drawn from their heel and sent for screening determines of level of
thyroid stimulating hormone (Samuels 2). However, when the thyroid gland over produces thyroid
hormone a lot of things in the body development can go wrong. The over produced thyroid hormone
forces the body to expedite. It is important to know that one has hyperthyroidism, because it can result
in heart, bone problems, and thyroid storm; which heart rate, blood pressure, and the increase in body
temperature can be fatal. Hyperthyroidism is more common in females than males and the older a
person is the more likely they will have it. Around 27 millions of American have thyroid disease,
however only 14 million receive treatment. Also, stress is the main aspect that affects the thyroid
gland in either over producing or under producing thyroid hormone (Kumar 22). There are many
causes of hyperthyroidism, such as Grave s disease, hyperfunctioning thyroid nodules, and thyroiditis.

Research Paper On Soil Success
Making Soil Successful
Alexyss Luciano
University of Florida Introduction The health of a growing plant depends more on just the amount of
sun and water it intakes. The very soil that a plant grows in can effect the plant in ways such as height,
time it takes to grow, and ability to accept nutrients needed for life. Successful soil is more than just
sand and clay, it also contains millions of microorganisms and types of catalysts. Researchers have
studied the effects of mulch, what type of water is used, and soil content when growing a plant, but the
factor with the most influence is what makes up the soils composition. The purpose of studying soil is
to ensure healthy growth of plants because their populations are declining, ... Show more content on

This research emphasizes the importance of organic material in plant growth which has been proven
multiple times even when not included in the hypothesis. Soil is often made up of many different
ratios of clay and sand. Tampering with the ratios was proven effective by scientists when they
concluded that the clay to sand ratio of 3 to 1 was most useful in aiding the plants growth [5]. Clay is a
useful ingredient in the soil make up because it allows nematode reproduction, an organic compound
[5], which once again shows how adding organic matter into the soil formula can make it much more
nutritious for plants. In the many experiments that have been conducted, organic matter is almost
always the key variable, whether that be in if the matter is present or how much is present. Organic
matter is efficient with absorbing nutrients for plants, keeping soils thick and moist, and also creating
an extra water supply for plants [3]. Organic matter, like compost, manure, and plant residue, have
recently become more popular because of the rising prices and levels of environmental harm that
chemical fertilizers have [3]. Studies examining the use of compost in soil have found that fine
textured compost produces healthier plants than coarse textured compost [3], but unfortunately there is
not enough data to prove these conclusions to be one hundred percent accurate. Even though scientists
have discovered the best formulas to grow the healthiest

Morrison Distortion
Morrison captivates the audience and communicates the enduring effects of slavery on the African
American community through the distortion of time through the constantly changing setting.
Throughout the novel, Morrison constantly changes the setting and alters the natural order of time.
When Paul D first arrives at 124, Sethe says to Paul D, You can t leave right away Paul D. (Morrison
8) Reminding Sethe of the past, Paul D replies, Well, long enough to see Baby Suggs, anyway. Where
is she? (Morrison 8) Answering Paul D s question, Sethe replies, Dead. (Morrison 8) After Paul D
enters 124, he immediately reminds Sethe of the fact that Baby Suggs died and their past as slaves.
And as a result, Morrison interests and confuses the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the beginning of the novel, Beloved is a character that appears one day resting on a tree trunk and is
seemingly without a backstory. It becomes apparent that Beloved is in fact the spirit of one of Sethe s
dead children because Morrison writes, But once Sethe had seen the scar...Sethe played all the harder
with Beloved, who never got enough of anything: lullabies, new stitches, the bottom of the cake
bowl... (Morrison 282). Sethe realizes that Beloved is the reincarnation of daughter because the scar
that Beloved has is the result of Sethe killing her children. Furthermore, Sethe spoils Beloved with as
much motherly love as possible in order to make up for killing her. Therefore, Beloved personifies the
past because she is the literal embodiment of Sethe s daughter s spirit coming to life. However, not
only does Beloved embody the spirit of Sethe s dead child Beloved also embodies the psychological
trauma of Sethe s past because if it were not for slavery then Sethe would not have to kill her child and
experience the vengeful spirit known as Beloved. Therefore, Beloved is a constant reminder to Sethe
of Sweet Home s atrocities. Morrison uses the revival of the past through Beloved in order to
comment on the enduring effects of slavery because Morrison suggests that those who have been
affected by slavery will forever be haunted by their captivity. Furthermore, this

  • 2. Kant On Enlightment In the essay What is Enlightment? Immanuel Kant discusses his thoughts on enlightment and what it takes for a society to reach it. In Kant s words, Enlightment is man s emergence from his self imposed immaturity ; he uses the term immaturity as a way to describe someone who uses other peoples thoughts to make up for their own instead of thinking for themselves. Kant then states that these people are scared and lazy and choose to not think for themselves because they were never allowed to in the first place so they became dependent on others thinking for them. However, Kant believed that if a society was given freedom, they ll slowly be able to reach enlightment. Which is where public and private use of reason come into place. Kant described ... The Cuckoo Search Guided By Correlation And Classi Cation... 20th International Conference on Knowledge Based and Intelligent Information and Engineering Systems Cuckoo Search Guided by Correlation and Classification Accuracy for Dimensionality Reduction Waleed Yamany a a,c, , E. Emary b , Aboul Ella Hassanien Fayoum University, Faculty of Computers and Information, Fayoum, Egypt b Cairo University, Faculty of Computers and Information, Cairo, Egypt c Scientific Research Group in Egypt (SRGE) b,c Abstract Attribute reduction is a challenge in that is has a big e ect on classification accuracy as the classifier training time, complexity and running time increases as a number of attributes used increases. Commonly attributes in a given data set are correlated, noisy and redundant. In this work, a system for attribute reduction was proposed making use of filter based attribute reduction using the correlation based attribute reduction. The cuckoo search optimizer was used to search the attribute space of attribute set with minimum correlation among selected attributes. By running the cuckoo search for a predetermined ratio of iterations, the selected attribute sets are reevaluated using a new fitness function based on wrapper based attribute reduction. The initial agents/solutions for this second stage of optimization are guaranteed to have minor correlation and hence are the candidate for further improvement towards the classification accuracy fitness function. So, the cuckoo search completes the rest of optimization steps with the initial ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Rising Us Unemployment and the Canadian Dollar Is there a relationship between rising US unemployment and the rise of the Canadian dollar? Canada s financial stability depends on the health of America s economy, as international trade accounts for 45% of Canada s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) and 79% of exports are to the United States. Canadian and American unemployment rates are positively correlated for that reason, as exemplified in early 2009. Canada s unemployment rate quickly steepened as the United States rate gradually increased to about 10% (refer to graph 1 and 2). During this time, Canada s growing trade surplus became a deficit in only a few months (refer to graph 3). From this data, one can determine that Canada s exports decreased rapidly due to rising economic ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... If consumer spending and exports decrease, Canada s economy can decline simultaneously with the American economy. As mentioned above, international trade accounts for 45% of Canada s GDP. On April 1, 2011, the loonie hit a three year high after U.S. employment increased and the jobless rate decreased. The dollar increase from a decrease in U.S. unemployment exemplifies America and Canada s trading partnership and coinciding economies. The strength of the U.S. economy is important for Canada s trade, economy and exchange rate. Increasing U.S. unemployment can positively or negatively influence the value of the loonie. Canada s dollar can increase due to demand from buyers looking to invest in a stable economy with low risk. On the other hand, Canada s GDP is dependent on U.S. trade. If less Americans are purchasing goods in Canada due to increased unemployment, the Canadian dollar will fall. Therefore, it is inconclusive that unemployment rates solely influence the rise of the Canadian dollar. There are many other factors that influence the exchange rate, such as commodity prices, investor confidence, overvalued currency and inflation rates. • 5. Company Overview of Garmin Executive Summary In a span of 5 short years, GPS manufacturer Garmin has gone from a specialized producer of niche equipment to a Wall Street champion in 2007. Since that time, the company has diminished into a relative has been according to many analysts. For example, in late 2007 the Garmin stock price reached a record high of over one hundred twenty dollars a share. However, in 2008, the stock price fell below twenty dollars a share and today the stock rests in the mid forties after a mild recovery from the fifty two week low. This analysis looks into the financial aspect of Garmin and draws parallels to the overall trends in the industry. Although the company could have managed some aspects of the business better, the fall of Garmin s financial attractiveness cannot be entirely attributed to the company itself. Company Overview Garmin is a worldwide provider of navigation, communication, and information devices as well as their related applications which are all associated somehow to Global Positioning System (GPS) technology. The company offers products around the globe through subsidiary operations however the parent organization is located in Taiwan. There are four broad categories in which individual products within the company s product mix can be labeled; the automotive, outdoor/fitness, marine, and aviation represent the categories of products the company offers. Essay on Mitigating Disasters in Developing Countries The focus of this essay however will be on developing countries and the alternatives available to mitigate natural and man made disasters that are available to policymakers. Developing countries are in general countries which have not achieved a significant degree of industrialization relative to their populations, and which have, in most cases a medium to low standard of living. There is a strong correlation between low income and high population growth In today s globalized nation, countries are categorized either as a developed or developing nation. This form of categorization is based on the country s social, political and economical status, that is, their earning powers, standard of living and their type of governance. In ... Most developing countries, especially the smaller states were once colonized by Western industrial states and hence, have felt the impact of exploitation and deprivation from their strong colonial powers; in fact, they are still governed with similar social, political, economical and cultural traits which up to today have a major influence on their social well being. They rely relentlessly on these developed nations, hence the tardiness in their developmental process. One tend to get the feeling that there is some amount of inferiority among the citizens of developing countries as they have inherited what is termed a dependency syndrome still lagging among them. Because these developing countries are so poverty stricken, lack basic resources, proper governmental structures, a non existence of rules and regulations and the lack of proper enforcement of policies, they tend to be more vulnerable to disasters. Disaster in this sense is an event, focused in time and space in which societies suffer extensive damages and injuries to property, natural landscape, infrastructure and massive loss of lives termed as natural and man made disasters (McDonald, 2003). Switzerland Legal System Essay Switzerland s legal system is reliant on a civil law tradition and thus is dependent on written codes which is held as a primary source for statements of law with authority. Going back in history it is shown that civil law is composed of a group of legal ideas and systems stemmed from a collection of fundamental works in jurisprudence, cloaked by Napoleonic, Germanic, canonical, feudal and local practises including doctrinal strains such as natural law, codification and legal positivism. Swiss foreign policy has since 1815 been governed by the principle of neutrality, so they did not support or aid either side to a conflict and remained impartial during the first and second World War. England s law on the other hand was made by judges sitting in courts thus known as common law so has become more like Switzerland as legislation has stated to overtake judicial law making. Their laws are seen to be dominated by statutory law, which generate general principles and sets aside functional and procedural rules. Unlike the United Kingdom judicial decisions are not rated as high. Switzerland is a federal union, meaning civil procedure and the make up of the judiciary are governed by state law of 26 cantons, in unifying the various cantonal rules enshrines the rights to take part in decision making process s on Federals state level, having equal share in the central legislator. Recently I had to write a essay on why I wanted to be a teacher. So down below is my essay on why I want to become a teacher. The reason why I want to teach is because of the essential and noble profession. Next to parents, I think teacher are important foundational element in our society. Being a teacher would show me the value, knowledge, and character to be a figure for children to look up to. The important thing is the proper preparation and the fundamental to living a full and rewarding life. A teacher is defined as someone who gives instruction and communicates skills. Teachers enhance the lives of our young children by using their teaching methods to deliver valuable information, which will serve the purpose throughout their lives. One of my favorite memories as a high or middle school student was that I looked up to my teachers. I was so excited the first time I went to volunteer in a fourth grade class. I wanted to be a teacher for many reasons, but I think the biggest reason of all is my love for children in general. After volunteering in a elementary classroom, I got to move up and sit in a middle school classroom that consist of 6 8th graders who has Autism Spectrum Disorder. This resolution list is distributed throughout the Internet in a hierarchy of authority. There s normally a DNS server hosted by ISPs (Internet Service Providers) to serve their clients (Rouse 2005). The basic operation of DNS in a single Internet resource request is shown in Figure 1 (AFNIC 2009). It functions like a database that is distributed over DNS machines that interact with each other to be able to respond to a user s query. The top of the DNS hierarchy contains the top level domains, such as .com, which are controlled by top level DNS servers. The DNS server implementation which is used for this paper is BIND, which is the most widely used DNS server implementation on the Internet today. • 11. Marcus Aurelius And Stoicism After the death of Aristotle, philosophy that targeted greater complex depths was outrun by philosophy that focused on mere everyday lives. With the rise and fall of Skepticism, Cynicism, and Epicureanism there was an influence that survived years impacting life and that was Stoicism. Zeno of Citium who believed that the world had an ultimate plan and everything including nature, animals, and humans, were there for a reason (Hergenhahn Henley, 2014, p. 66). The reason Stoicism was easily used is because it was well suited with the way Romans highlighted their law and order giving the extensive coverage displayed by many philosophers, including Marcus Aurelius. Marcus Aurelius, was born in 121 C.E. Growing up his focus of education was overseen by Emperor Hadrian and soon taken over by Emperor Antonius teaching him more of a rhetoric (Sellars, 2002). As the years progressed he shifted in to a study of philosophy leading to him becoming what we know as one of the most important Stoic philosophers. Marcus Aurelius became an emperor in A.D. 160 lasting to A.D.180. he was working closely with Lucius Verus in 169 and his son Commodus in 177 (Crook, 2017). Marcus Aurelius later passed away in A.D. 180, yet his most personal literature is still read today, Meditations. Marcus Aurelius and his philosophies were composed down in a collection of his intimate writings titled Meditations. • 13. Immanuel Kant View On Morality Immanuel Kant is known as the famous German philosopher who argued two main points in his philosophy: that the human mind creates the structure of the human experience and that reason is the source of morality. More specifically, Kant used his philosophy to argue that in order to figure out what is the right thing, we must rely on reason. Unlike several other philosophers, Kant refused to use religion as a method to know what the law was to determine right and wrong, because he believed it was all knowable based on our intellect. Kant s key principle throughout his philosophy is to assert that the only way a person can achieve good will is by accomplishing it through duty. Throughout his paper, Kant explains that in the world, there is a constant battle between the conditional and the unconditional goods. He begins by describing that there are three conditional goods that can be turned evil by humans such as the gifts of fortune (wealth, health), talents of mind (intelligence), and good outcomes. To counteract this, he describes that there is only one unconditional good; the good will, which can only be executed by duty. When described by Kant, duty means that a person does the right thing for no other reason than because it is the right thing to do. To be able to reach this point, Kant used the process of elimination between inclination, prudence, and duty. In his paper, Kant explains that a person cannot achieve good will if they use inclination (what you desire) because to him, this doesn t constitute moral actions. For example, in Kant s eyes a parent who takes care of their children because is what they desire to do because they love them shouldn t be morally praised because they are doing it for themselves rather than doing it because they acknowledge they have an obligation and it is the right thing to do to fulfill that obligation. He continues and goes on to refute prudence (rational self interest). To better understand this concept, we can think of the example of a lady who believes she can earn a greater income if she cheats her customers, but refuses to do so, not because she knows it s the wrong thing, but because she fears being caught and losing her customers. By providing this example, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In this modern capitalistic age, the power held over the media as developed and been re directed. The media acts as the key distributor and translator of the ideology within our society throughout history and in the present day. However, the context in which we communicate is changing, and with this, the relationship and interaction between politics, media and public life have altered (Blair, T 2007). Rape in wartime is as old as war itself and is considered an expected outcome of such violent conflict (Bracewell 2000). The sexual invasion of a woman s body is the ultimate act in emasculating her husband and eliciting turmoil in the community (Boose 2002, pp. 73) as it undermines the warrior and displays his inability to protect his territory , particularly if performed in front of him. This performance of terrorisation and humiliation was particularly prevalent in the Red Army s invasion of Germany in World War Two, where the degradation ceremony would only occur in the presence of witnesses (Johnson 2002). Not only this but the widespread rape of a nation s women is an attack on the symbolic ideology of a nation (Gottschall J, 2004). A nation s women embody its core values and are seen a beacons of purity and thus are marked as an enemy target, a territory to be to be conquered (Mostov 1995). Its effects are akin to bombings, gassing and other genocidal acts, which has allowed for the evolution of wartime rape into a key, systematic weapon of war, particularly in regards to its long term consequences. The methodical rape of Tutsi women during the Rwanda Genocide was implemented with the strategic intent to infect victims with HIV (Nduwimana 2004). This genocidal act was deliberately enacted to deliver harm that is worse death, to heighten the suffering and destruction of communities and humiliation of men. Villages were forced to watch some if not all of their women fall prey to the disease, an on going reminder of the times of war and the nightmarish acts that transpired (Nduwimana 2004). Rape in times of violence is indeed a historical phenomenon based upon the expression of power and dominance. It has occurred persistently in human civilisation, regardless of location, ... Tobacco is a plant that grows natively in North and South America. It is in the same family as the potato, pepper and the poisonous nightshade, a very deadly plant (Randall, 1999, p. 1). Tobacco may provide a different relief or prevention for some diseases in certain individuals. The most recognized health benefit of smoking is its ability to seemingly improve symptoms of mental illness, including anxiety and schizophrenia. People with these mental illnesses use smoking as a self medicating kind of method. Several academic sources confirm that the risk of Parkinson s disease and Alzheimer s disease is unexpectedly superior in non smokers than in smokers. The University of Melbourne established that tobacco itself is a strong appetite suppressant and many were using it to self treat compulsive overeating disorders and obesity. Cigarette smoking has also been linked to a decrease in risk of certain inflammatory disorders, since nicotine itself appears to be an anti inflammatory agent (Russo, 2011, p.1). To illustrate, Flat areas, where the intensity is slowly changing, result in low frequencies. Rough areas, on the other hand, result in high frequencies because of the dramatic change in the intensity value. this paper discusses the impact of manipulating the frequency information of digital images and how the frequency spectrum can be used to address a real world situation. Huei and Kun [2] proposed that the speed of moving objects in a single image can be estimated using the blur parameters, the camera parameters and imaging geometry. To illustrate, the displacement of a moving object (d) can be determined using similar triangles according to the blur length (k) Figure2. And by knowing the shutter speed of the camera (T), the speed of the object is v =d/T(1). Since this paper is concerned with Fourier Transform, the details of equation (1) are omitted and calculating the blur parameter is detailed below. The blur parameters, including the blurs direction and length, can be determined by examining their impact on the Fourier spectrum. As shown in figure, the Fourier spectrum of the motion blur contains strips of dark lines that are parallel and uniformly separated. Note that the Fourier spectrum depends on the objects orientation; so the direction of the motion blur could be extracted from the frequency spectrum. Also, as the blurs length increase, the edges get smoother, resulting in lower frequency response. These observations suggest that the frequency spectrum has all the needed information to determine the blurs parameters. In particular, the object shown in the figure is moving along the horizontal axis, and this caused the vertical orientation of the dark lines in the frequency spectrum. Furthermore, increasing the blurs length, which can be achieved by increasing the object s speed, lessens the distance ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Academics find it difficult to analyze corporate crime because large scale survey data is not available so researchers have to rely on non objective crime statistics collected by impartial government agencies such as StatsCan or the Home Office which usually yield tiny samples (Snider, 2005; pg 186). Corporations do not want sociologist investigating their business practises, unlike traditional offenders they have the ability to resist such incursions. He was then sent to convalesce at Beelitz, where he healed up. When he had recovered from the injury he went on a trip to nearby Berlin, for some sight seeing. The capital was suffering from food shortages, and that combined with long working hours for the munition workers caused work strikes to occur. This is seen as the real reason behind the fall of Germany, a lack of food and thus lack of mutations. After witnessing this all Hitler labeled them cowards and traitors, showing no empathy for their plight. The lack of morale for the war was sickening for him and depressed him greatly. Hitler felt the full weight of the British offensive at Arras and then the Third Ypres. For his bravery, he was awarded a number of citations, including the Military Cross 3rd Class with Swords. With high morale, the German High Command had its last throw of the dice in the final offensive. But the combination of American economic might with French and British experience would be too much for the Germans. Even if they could break through to Paris, they would have no way of capturing it. While the Germans fought bravely, it was a losing battle they were carrying on. On August 4th Hitler received an Iron Cross 1st Class for personal bravery and general merit. How Teams Of Organizations Develop Into Cohesive Teams The manner in which people interact in groups professionally impacts the productivity of each member as well as the organizational climate. Few professions require an employee to work independently of others. Instead, we must work as a part of a team. Understanding how teams of people interact in the accomplishment of tasks are critical to management teams. In this article, Farrell, Schmitt, and Heinemann (2001) gathered from a sample of 111 interdisciplinary health care teams in geriatrics in 34 Veterans Affairs medical centers in the United States to test team development theories. The process in which groups develop into cohesive teams was at the center of the article. Farrell, Schmitt, and Heinemann (2001) noted that frequently, teams are plagued with repeated conflicts, low morale, and poor task performance. Many theorists have argued that, before an interdisciplinary team can establish the open communication, flexibility in leadership, and coordination of efforts necessary for effective functioning, it must pass through a sequence of developmental stages (281). Farrell, Schmitt, and Heineman (2001) referenced Tuckman and Jensen s group development stages in which they refer to the stages as (a) testing and dependency, or the forming stage, (b) conflict, or the storming stage, (c) cohesion and consensus, or the norming stage, and (d) functional role relatedness, or the performing stage (p. 282). The article showed that kids who grow up with caregivers that are suffering from a trauma often feel that trauma for themselves, for example a parent exhibiting depression often times leads to a child feeling depression which is why I believe a person with a caregiver suffering from mental illness is more likely to suffer from that same illness. To me this explains statistics associated with susceptibility of children to have similar issues as their parents. Russell whirls a reader into her stories with her capability to encase a reader in the story with her repetition of one s senses. Constantly brining in the senses of a reader brought in the smells of a surrounding from the protagonist or in this case the narrator. After every sense, emotion, and interaction was a pack experience, for Russell to cut this tie and create a story that is of an individual is a subtle experience at first; from a united thought process that slowly turn individual to self centered and selfish. This is apparent in Claudette s frame of mind towards her little sister Mirabella, from the pack worrying about Mirabella (230) to Claudette singular thoughts and emotions toward her littlest sister . This switch epitomizes the coming to age alone tone that Russell creates, initially the pack protected each other, thought as one, and were connected in every way till they adapted to the new environment, becoming singular units growing up isolated from each other snarl at one another for no reason (229) becoming accustomed to thinking individually as an independent person. They share similar struggle of coming of age stories, stories of isolation in the first person that reveal one trait or another within the battle. Assyrian Empire Essay For a few centuries after the death of Shamshi Adad I, Assyrian cities were subjugated by a succession of outsiders: Babylonians under Hammurabi, Hittites and Mitanni Hurrians. From 1791 to 1360 A.D. control over Assyria passed back and forth, although Assyria itself remained more or less stable. After a power struggle between the Hittites and Mitanni, the Hittites successfully broke the power of the Mitanni in the region. Assyria then began to take control over territories that had belonged to Mitanni. The Hittites battled with the Assyrians, but the Assyrian king Ashur Uballit stamped out any remaining Mitanni or Hittite control over northern Mesopotamia. The Middle Empire King Ashur Uballit, who ruled from c. 1353 to 1318 B.C., succeeded in gathering all former Mitanni regions under his control. They promptly slew the king and replaced him with a pretender to the throne. King Ashur Uballit then invaded Babylon, killed the pretender and placed another Kassite royal on the throne. In Hemingway s Hills Like White Elephants I found many layers of symbolism, and a fascinating psychological underplay afoot between his two characters. It begins with the girl s comment about a line of white hills seen in the distance, which she compares to white elephants. The man responds with the comment I ve never seen one. The symbolism of a white elephant is widely known as something very large or apparent that no one wishes to acknowledge or speak of in American society. At that point, the waitress tells them the train is due in five minutes. The man escapes with the bags, carrying them to the other tracks. Just as the two have switched their life course, they are now switching trains, heading down a set of tracks carrying them towards a different outcome. • 36. Analysis Of The Poem Upon The Burning Of Our House Since its early days, America has had strong core values based in Christian theology, European traditions, and Western ideals and morals. The Christian religion (and its many varying tendrils) has helped unify our nation for centuries. The founders of what is today the United States of America came over to this continent avoiding persecution for their religion from European powers. While there have been plethora wars and struggles across Europe over religion, thankfully they have never showed their face in America, although it is most certainly a part of our heritage. However, it can not be said that Christianity is the only influence that has been exerted on the American culture. Pagan and secular traditions and superstitions have been passed from ancient Greece to ancient Rome, then from the wreckage of those empires in Europe, and carried on all the way through the Dark Ages to 1600 s pilgrims who carried their culture to a new continent: North America. A remarkably early American poet was Anne Bradstreet, who wrote the poem Upon the Burning of Our House, which is a tribute to God. The most important and obvious value that Bradstreet emphasizes in her poem is her devotion to God. Throughout this poem she mentions him seven times as being her support and lord. In the second stanza she prays that god will strengthen me in my distress. This demonstrates to us that she trusts God to take care of her, despite the extreme traumatic experience she just endured. • 37. Advertising And Advertising Media has become a part of our everyday lives. From the first moment we wake up to the last moment we go to sleep we are always exposed to media. Media usage and consumption has drastically changed from a way to receive information to a bombardment of products and companies. Television, radio, movies, and magazines are all examples of different mediums used for media transmittance. The average person is exposed to more than 4000 advertisements each day (Colette, 2015). Media has four key purposes that include the expression of an opinion, educating the audience, persuading viewers to purchase the merchandise and to entertain in order to maintain the consumers interest. Before this course, I never realized that companies use different strategies in order to attract viewers. Some of the strategies used are celebrity endorsements, simulating perfection, feminine sexuality, product placement, and the advancement of technology. There are many different media outputs in society, I feel the most influential to me are television commercials and social media. These outputs ensure that the company s message is being seen by the mass population. Apple as an example always attracted me to their products based on the strive for the newest technology. Apple uses the strategies of new technology aswell as celebrity endorsement in television commercials, movies and social media in order to promote their newest products (Verdugo, 2014). • 39. Unnecessary Stigm Bdsm Relationships Unnecessary Stigma: BDSM Relationships With the rise of books like Fifty Shades of Grey, there are many questions being asked about what the real effects of BDSM (bondage and discipline, dominance and submission, sadism and masochism (sadomasochism)) relationships are on participants (Turley et al 123, McDonald). There s the question of where the boundary between abuse and recreational play is drawn, where the psychological implications of the relationship becomes too much for the individual, but all of that can be boiled down to just a few points to explore. In order to really understand what all comes with these relationships, we must look at the experiences of participants, seeking to understand what BDSM is, and what it means. We must ... The latter really becomes important when individuals engage in play that involves things like drugs, where the risks can be considered no longer safe for SSC to apply (Black). Once the understanding of limits, both soft and hard, has been reached, and the participants have given consent, play like that between Tom and Joe can begin. As Stear points out, the scenes that are engaged in are a form of make believe, one that gets very involved with the body, pleasure, and possibly even pain, but they are a fantasy nonetheless (29). Tom isn t actually a puppy, but pretending to be, getting so lost in the headspace that, for a time, he experiences the world as if he were a puppy, giving him a break from the stresses of human life (Turley et al 130). It is with this understanding of what the scenes are made of, along with what they are built upon, that we can begin to focus on what BDSM is for an individual. These relationships go beyond many other types in requiring participants to trust each other enough to give up or receive some kind of power in relation to the other. • 44. Hyperthyroidism Occurs When The Thyroid Gland Hyperthyroid Disease Hyperthyroidism occurs when the thyroid gland, a butterfly shape in front of the neck, overproduces thyroid hormone. The thyroid gland is abundant with blood vessels and it secretes thyroid hormone (Kumar 22). Thyroid hormone influences many different internal body functions such as, metabolism, growth, development, turning food into energy, and increases body temperature. Thyroid hormone is very important for brain development and normal growth during infancy; furthermore, a newborn s blood drawn from their heel and sent for screening determines of level of thyroid stimulating hormone (Samuels 2). However, when the thyroid gland over produces thyroid hormone a lot of things in the body development can go wrong. The over produced thyroid hormone forces the body to expedite. It is important to know that one has hyperthyroidism, because it can result in heart, bone problems, and thyroid storm; which heart rate, blood pressure, and the increase in body temperature can be fatal. Hyperthyroidism is more common in females than males and the older a person is the more likely they will have it. Around 27 millions of American have thyroid disease, however only 14 million receive treatment. Also, stress is the main aspect that affects the thyroid gland in either over producing or under producing thyroid hormone (Kumar 22). • 45. Research Paper On Soil Success Making Soil Successful Alexyss Luciano University of Florida Introduction The health of a growing plant depends more on just the amount of sun and water it intakes. The very soil that a plant grows in can effect the plant in ways such as height, time it takes to grow, and ability to accept nutrients needed for life. Successful soil is more than just sand and clay, it also contains millions of microorganisms and types of catalysts. Researchers have studied the effects of mulch, what type of water is used, and soil content when growing a plant, but the factor with the most influence is what makes up the soils composition. The purpose of studying soil is to ensure healthy growth of plants because their populations are declining, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This research emphasizes the importance of organic material in plant growth which has been proven multiple times even when not included in the hypothesis. Soil is often made up of many different ratios of clay and sand. Tampering with the ratios was proven effective by scientists when they concluded that the clay to sand ratio of 3 to 1 was most useful in aiding the plants growth [5]. Clay is a useful ingredient in the soil make up because it allows nematode reproduction, an organic compound [5], which once again shows how adding organic matter into the soil formula can make it much more nutritious for plants. In the many experiments that have been conducted, organic matter is almost always the key variable, whether that be in if the matter is present or how much is present. Organic matter is efficient with absorbing nutrients for plants, keeping soils thick and moist, and also creating an extra water supply for plants [3]. Organic matter, like compost, manure, and plant residue, have recently become more popular because of the rising prices and levels of environmental harm that chemical fertilizers have [3]. Studies examining the use of compost in soil have found that fine textured compost produces healthier plants than coarse textured compost [3], but unfortunately there is not enough data to prove these conclusions to be one hundred percent accurate. Even though scientists have discovered the best formulas to grow the healthiest ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

(Morrison 282). Sethe realizes that Beloved is the reincarnation of daughter because the scar that Beloved has is the result of Sethe killing her children. Furthermore, Sethe spoils Beloved with as much motherly love as possible in order to make up for killing her. Therefore, Beloved personifies the past because she is the literal embodiment of Sethe s daughter s spirit coming to life. However, not only does Beloved embody the spirit of Sethe s dead child Beloved also embodies the psychological trauma of Sethe s past because if it were not for slavery then Sethe would not have to kill her child and experience the vengeful spirit known as Beloved.
