Analysis Of The Prologue Of The Canterbury Tales
Bhakta, Karan
English IV, Sixth Hour
Mr. Adcock
8 December 2015
The Religious Vows In The Prologue of The Canterbury Tales, Geoffrey Chaucer has some religious
characters who break the vows they pledge for, to get a place in the Church. Many characters in the
story seem to have an awkward characteristic that the writer did not notice. Why do the religious
characters break the vow? How do they break it? For example, the monk was a primary part of the
church, but as you keep reading, the characters start to change in ways you could never imagine. Some
character do not interact with each other depending upon their social class level. The vows that the
religious characters break are the Vow of Poverty, the Vow of Chastity, the Vow of Obedience, and the
Vow of Stability. The vow that is probably the most frequently broken is the Vow of Poverty.
According to the Prologue of The Canterbury Tales, Chaucer says; I saw his sleeves were garnished at
the hand/ With fine grey fur, the finest in the land. / And on his hood, to fasten it at his chin/ He had a
wrought gold cunningly fashioned pin (197 200). As a religious figure, the monk probably should not
be expensively dressed in fine fur or gold jewelry. He is also showing others that he is rich with all
this jewelry. Later Chaucer says, He did not rate that text at a plucked hen/ Which says that hunters are
not holy men (181 182). He ignored the rules of the monk and acted on his. Also he is

Energy Drinks Persuasive Speech
I. The rush that takes over your body when you take a sip of that refreshing drink keeps you wanting
more. The power you feel after consuming this product, makes you feel alive and well enough to
climb the tallest tower.
II. Has it ever crossed your mind, what exactly is an energy drink? Not many people realize the effects
that are caused by energy drinks such as Monster and Red bull. People are so used to consuming vast
amounts of caffeine in order to keep their energy levels high, but do they ever stop to wonder how it is
affecting their bodies?
III. According to researchers in Australia, the risk of over consumption of energy drinks is very high.

Main Idea I: What are energy drinks and where did they originate?
A. Originating in Asia in 1962, Energy drinks were created in order to give an extra boost for
employees that were required to work in the night. A Japanese Pharmaceutical company released the
first energy drink called Lipovitan D, which contained caffeine several other ingredients. 1. The Jolt
Cola was the first to hit the market in the United states, mainly targeted by college campuses. It wasn t
so much of an energy drink , but rather a soft drink with an addition of extra caffeine and sugar.
a. An Austrian business man and his fellow business partners, in Asia for a business trip, noticed the
sales of energy drinks sky rocketing, and established the Red Bull company. Many companies began
to create other energy drinks, but Red Bull is still one of the leading energy drink brands.

Essay about Schizophrenia
Schizophrenia
It is a frightening disorder that strikes about one percent of the world population. It surfaces most
frequently during puberty and has the potential to forever destroy the lives of the people who are
unfortunate enough to be its victim. The disorder is schizophrenia and it manifests itself by disturbing
normal psychiatric behavior. The symptoms of schizophrenia are characterized by both positive and
negative symptoms. Positive symptoms include hallucinations, delusions, and other unusual or
disorganized behavior. Unresponsiveness, lack of activity, and loss of interest characterize negative
symptoms. Though it is possible for doctors to diagnose and treat patients with schizophrenia, the
causes of schizophrenia are ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Perhaps what is most convincing, though, are the recent links made between schizophrenia and
chemical imbalances in the brain. There are four main hypotheses that support the theory that
biological chemistry is responsible for causing schizophrenia. The first is named the Membrane
Hypothesis. Observations of persons suffering from schizophrenia suggest that a defect or impairment
in nerve cell membranes could affect how neurotransmitter receptors send messages across the nerve
synapses. Also, there is evidence of decreased enzymes and fatty acids among schizophrenics. (2)
A second hypothesis is the Single Carbon Hypothesis. This theory explains that the single carbon
folate serves as a metabolic pathway for several reactions in the brain. One of these reactions is the
synthesis of methionine. It has been found that methionine metabolism is defective in many sufferers
of schizophrenia. This suggests that folate is somehow related to the disorder, though exact
relationship remains unknown. (2)
The NDMA Receptor Hypothesis is another suspect in the search for the cause of schizophrenia.
According to research, it is possible that NDMA receptor dysfunction may induce schizophrenic
symptoms due to the fact that NDMA receptors operate with glutamate, an excitatory neurotransmitter.
Drugs that affect NDMA receptors, such as ketamine and phencyclidine, have been found to produce
hallucinations. Also, neuroleptic drugs like clozapoine have

She was a writer, a politician and the winner of the Nobel Prize of literature in 1991. Spring, the city
where she was born, was a complex and rigid small mining town where only black Africans worked in
the gold mines, with nothing on their side, and a lot of disadvantages.
Besides, black people didn t have access to all public facilities and services. So, Nadine grew up

Her father Isodore Gordimer was a watchmaker who immigrated from Zagare and her mother Hannah

Since she was very young, she was influenced by her parents to be interested in economic and racial

She started to a Catholic convent school; however, her mother did not allow her to be out of the house

The Gospel Of Wealth By Andrew Carnegie
Wealth is something that not all people have, but most typically want more of it. There are many
people on Earth that wish they had more wealth, and there are even a select few that have too much.
The Gospel of Wealth by Andrew Carnegie is all about what should be done when there is too much
wealth held by an individual. Carnegie begins his essay by describing how the disparity of wealth has
changed over the years. He also describes how wealth has simply grown in general over time.
Carnegie states, What were the luxuries have become the necessaries of life . He then goes on to
discuss ways that excess wealth accumulated by any one person can be spent or distributed. There are
three ways, or modes, that Carnegie touches on in order to dispose

Essay On Post Operative Risk Management
What pre/peri/post operative risk management strategies will you utilize with this patient and why?
Female patients diagnosed with anxiety, depression and past chronic pain are at increased risk of
developing chronic post surgical pain (1). Studies have shown high preoperative anxiety and female
gender are the two major risk factors of developing acute postoperative and post chronic surgical pain
(1). Several strategies can be used to reduce the patient s anxiety and the incidence of developing
acute post operative chronic pain. At the consultation appointment, the clinician should address patient
s attitudes and concerns, educate the patient on the dental procedure, and identify the procedures that
are likely to cause severe pain (1).
Studies show chronic post surgical pain is associated with poor surgical technique, increased time of
surgery, and operations with high risk of nerve injury (1). One may consider the use of cone beam
topography to map the inferior alveolar nerve and its proximity to the tooth in question. This patient
should also be treated by an oral surgeon as they are highly trained and efficient in exodontia. The
surgeon should use conservative surgical approach with acceptable exposure, and multimodal
pharmacological analgesic in addition to local anesthesia (1). Also, due to her history of TMJ ... Show

The Experiment Of The First Experiment
Unlike the first experiment which lasted three seasons, this one lasted only one season, from May to
November 2013. Following a seed pre germination period of 72 hours in the dark (25°C), all
treatments were planted in 2.5 L pots filled with a nitrogen free substrate of fine quartz sand. The
authors disposed the pots in rows with 15 cm inter rows. They further fertigated the growing plants
every two hours with a complete nutrient solution, excluding nitrogen. Similarly to their first
experiment, the authors arranged this one in a slit plot design with four replicated blocks. This time,
they used six treatments per block: 1) alive alfalfa and tall fescue; 2) dead alfalfa and tall fescue; 3)
alive white clover and perennial ryegrass; 4) dead white clover and perennial ryegrass; 5) pure tall
fescue and; 6) pure perennial ryegrass. These treatments were divided between two randomized sub
blocks with or without a legume. For the dead legumes, the authors previously grew the plants for
three months, then cut them right below the taproot collar and further planted the grass species
according to the treatments. Four days after the transplant, treatments containing live legumes were
inoculated with rhizobia. To do so, the authors collected soil from the 0 20 cm soil horizon of
experiment 1. They took several samples, mixed them and dissolved a sub sample of 10 grams into 1
L of deionized water. The authors then inoculated experiment 2 pots with 10 mL of this solution and

Raft Of The Medusa And The World Is Too Much With Us

Romanticism
Romanticism emerged in the 18th 19th centuries (primarily in opposition to Neo Classism) as a way to
express, as Victor Hugo said, liberalism in literature. The Romantic way of thinking emphasized
freedom from rules, and individuality. Many works of art and pieces of literature were made following
this theme, among them the painting, Raft of the Medusa and the poem the The World is too Much
with us .
The Raft of the Medusa is a painting done by Theodore Gericault in the 1800s. It is modeled after the
tragedy that was the shipwreck of the French naval frigate, Méduse, and it depicts the survivors who
were adrift on the raft.
The poem, The World is too much with us is a sonnet written by the Englishman William Wordsworth
in 1802. The composition is a romantic and satirical piece criticizing the people of the modern world
for their materialistic values and their disregarding of nature.
Both of these works are the epitome of Romanticism, as they both highlight the focal points of
Romantic thought; interest in the common man, strong senses and emotions, awe of nature,
celebration of the individual, and the importance of imagination.
The Romantics enjoy the struggle of the common man , and judging by the attire of the men on the
Raft of the Medusa , they are peasants just poor, everyday guys. These men have been subjected to
this terrible fate by the actions of those more fortunate

Essay on Saul s Tragedy
The plot summary is about a man named Saul who was courageous in battle. He was a generous king.
Early in his reign he was admired and respected by the people. However, his life turned into a tragedy
for one reason. Saul did not trust in God. Saul and his servant had just left the Land of Benjamin
because they were in search for Saul s father asses. Saul had figured that they could not find them and
wanted to turn back to tell his father, but his servant suggested otherwise. The servant had suggested
that they go see a well known prophet in the city of Israel. So instead they venture off to the city of
Israel and encountered the prophet. When Saul and his servant came across Prophet Samuel s path
they caught each other s attention. The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

attempt to help Malkishua, Abinadab gets wounded; Jonathan sees this and runs towards Abinadab. As
Jonathan and Abinadab defend themselves from the Philistine they soon are surrounded and killed
horrendously. Their cries were as loud as thunder.
As the tide of battle swiftly turns against the Jews, as Samuel had predicted. King Saul tries to make it
to where his sons are battling, but is too late. He is too occupied defending himself from the
Philistines and can only watch as his two sons suffer defeat. Afterwards, King Saul gets severely
wounded by the Philistine s archers in his legs and becomes unable move. As many fled for their lives,
King Saul s loses hope in winning the war. After having to see the death of his three sons, he gives up
all hope in winning.
King Saul dreaded the thought of falling into the hands of his heathen enemies (King Saul s pride). So
instead of dying by his enemies he calls his armor bearer to slay him. However, the armor bearer is to
terrified and will not obey King Saul. Therefore, King Saul kills himself by falling upon his sword.
Since, the armor bearer saw that King Saul was dead. The armor bearer also fell upon his sword and
died along with his King.
Thus, King Saul, his three sons, his armor bearer, and some of the army died together that same day.

How Does Myrtle Wilson Use Deception In The Great Gatsby
them both as well as her denial reveals to the reader that her deception is rooted from her dishonour.
Ultimately, Daisy was always going to be drawn to Tom as he had been from a wealthy heritage and
lives in East egg in an upmarket residence, unlike Gatsby who was of new money and lived in West
egg. Daisy was superficial and money was her driving force and priority, even her voice is full of
money. She had been everywhere and seen everything and done everything but she was unaware that
money does not bring contentment. This statement reflects the easy mobility of her lifestyle and those
of the higher class. She would still give Gatsby false hope you know I love you as his rise in wealth
was appealing and could be of a benefit to her. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Like Daisy, Myrtle was passionate about her husband at first, but the marriage has since been at
breaking point. While Daisy doesn t have any real desire to leave Tom, Myrtle is eager to leave, and
very dismissive of her husband I never was any more crazy about him than I was about that man there.
She makes it clear she thinks she is finally heading for bigger and better things as he wasn t fit to lick
her shoe. A glimpse of the world of wealth was enough to turn her head and create a new artificial
women. In Chapter two, her appeal to wealth is shown further with the influence of the dress her
personality had also undergone a change. She is trying to become something that she ultimately is not.
Rather than face their problems as a couple, the Wilsons strive for dominance and supremacy within
the marriage. While George wants to move out west, he doesn t have the money, leaving him and
Myrtle in the valley of ashes and vulnerable to the dangers of the society at the time. The ashes could
symbolise their troubled relationship that they cannot see an escape from. Their downfall is their
unsteadiness within their marriage which stems from their financial situation. Fitzgerald is showing
that those who are not wealthy and are of lower classes are much more vulnerable to tragedy, which in
the end is Myrtles death. George Wilson is more humble than his wife. He seems to be satisfied and
happy with his life until he discovers that his wife is having an affair and being dishonest. His
character is comparable with Gatsby as both are dreamers and are ruined by their unrequited love.
Fitzgerald leads us to perceive the illusion that George is submissive allowing people take advantage
of him. However, another side of him is revealed after he murders Jay Gatsby. Nonetheless, unlike the
other characters he cannot live with or hide

Mexico Descriptive Essay
Don t just stand there! Do something! my mom yelled across the driveway. Everything was outside the
truck, ready to be put inside. I walked over to help my dad pack thing. Once we finally packed
everything
When we drove out the driveway, I got a glimpse of the small green tree in our front yard. It is so little
yet so full of life. That tree always seemed to grab my attention but I never really knew why.
My family in Mexico, or more specifically my Tia Olga, says it is absolutely beautiful over there.
Prior to this trip, the only time we went to Mexico was for new year s. But we stayed in the gated
community. I wasn t able to comprehend how someone can think that Mexico is beautiful outside of
the gated communities. I always asked myself How is Mexico beautiful?
Crossing the border was a lot easier than I expected. Looking out the window, I saw nothing but stray
dogs, homeless drunks, and people trying to sell old stuff. It wasn t the image of beautiful I had in my
mind. It was around Christmas time so everyone had their worn nativity sets out. We kept driving
through Tijuana for what seemed like hours. We stopped for tacos at a little stand on the side of the
road. The tacos were delicious but the man who made them looked as if he had worked all day and
night.
While we ate I watched these two little kids play together. By the way they were arguing, I made the
assumption that they were siblings. As I watched I saw them playing with toys that seemed centuries
old. They had one doll and a doll house made of sticks. The longer I watched the less I started to see
the flaws. They were so happy with the little they had. I was so mesmerized by the make shift doll
house my parents asked if I was okay.
Yeah, I m fine. Just tired I answered quickly.
After we finished eating, we drove through more what seemed like deserted towns. All around me
were houses made of tin and blankets, crops in front of peoples houses, and people begging for
money. It was a sad thing to see, so I turned away, closed my eyes, and slowly fell asleep. When I
woke up, we had arrived at my Tia Olga s house. She had a large gate around her property protecting
her and the house. When she let us in, it revealed an old and a new house,

Analysis Of The Secret Lives Of Sgt. John Wilson
Glory and Scandal , or in other words, Mary and John, two characters from the novel The Secret Lives
of Sgt. John Wilson who fall in love but eventually end their relationship on a tragic note. Many
events occurred through out the novel that caught my interest such as; the way they fell madly in love,
the transition into John becoming more of a ghost than a husband, then a more twisted unforeseen plot
that caught most readers entirely by surprise. The love affairs between the characters in the novel, plus
the twists and turns you experience while reading is the main contributor as to why I love this book.
Two polar opposites who started a life together, followed by scandal and deceit, then ended in a most
unspeakable way.
Mary Hutchinson was by far the most glorious and loving person through out the novel, and loved by
all that knew her, We all loved one another but somehow every one of us had a special work with
Polly. She was so bright and cheery and brave (Pg.7). She was a young seamstress who lived a simple
life, making an honest living and was very close to her loving family. She had been pursued by her co
worker the young Jack Wilson, who fall in love with her (or so she thought), but it was normal for
people to be attracted to her beautiful nature. After years of courting they had finally gotten married
and had children of their own, although the second would not be born until the father I say vaguely
had left the country. This once highly sought after woman would now be left to care for two young
children while her husband moved countries to find work (not to mention flee embarrassment). This
was the moment that would change her life for the worst, only she hadn t known it yet.
Jack Wilson, a name that once had meaning, but is now said with resentment, he had every
opportunity to face his issues and make things right like any man should, especially whilst having a
child and another on the way, even the idea of leaving caused some unhappy feedback Did you know
he s thinking of running off to Canada? I d say good riddance if it wasn t for the bairn and the one on
the way. (Pg.10). A lot of men take the high rout in good faith that things will change, but not Jack.
Jack Wilson; like a dog with

A Pragmatic Philosophy Of Second Language Acquisition
A Pragmatic Philosophy of Second Language Acquisition
Learning a second language is an issue of immense importance in our contemporary world.
Knowledge of a second language enhances a person s economic potential in the globalized
marketplace. The ability to read, write, speak, and comprehend another language empowers an
individual to exchange ideas across cultural and linguistic barriers. At the center of contemporary
second language acquisition is the learning and teaching of English. Due to the legacy of the British
Empire and the rise of the United States as the world s last remaining superpower, English has become
the main international mode of communication in science, technology, business, diplomacy and
popular entertainment. While educators and students worldwide may agree that learning English is
paramount, many students and teachers struggle with a pragmatic means to achieve this goal. In this
paper, I discuss my pragmatic philosophy of second language acquisition (SLA) based on existing
literature on the topic and my experiences teaching English to second language learners in Asia and in
the United States.
Pragmatism
To be a pragmatic language teacher means to be sensible, realistic and practical rather than to base
instructional methods solely on theoretical considerations. Brown (2007) states, Pragmatic constraints
on language comprehension and production may be loosely thought of as the effect of context on a
string of linguistic events (p. 232). A pragmatic

The Aspects Of My Future Life Goals In My Life
How you ever sat down and just put any thought into what are some things you wish you could
change? Or what changes you can do in the future to get to where you want to be? I m sure you have,
and I m sure you have had regrets. I know I have, and here are some things I wish I could change and
some of my future life goals both career and educational.
One thing I wish I could change was the day I broke my mom s heart. I was still in high school, when
I decided I should move out and live with my brother. My mom and I have never really had a great
relationship with each other. With me always lying to her about where I was, who I was with, and
what I was going to do. It was always constant arguing and disagreeing on everything. One day, we
just really got into it and she told me my roof, my rules so that is when I told myself, Yup, I need to
just pack my bags and leave tonight, that will fix everything. and without thinking that s what I did. I
waited until my mom and dad went to sleep and just left without them hearing. I had left a note and
told my mom I was leaving the house because I was tired of her, her rules, and our relationship. That
next morning my mom called me and sounded really upset and hurt. Making me start feeling bad and
having regrets. After having time to think, I realized I am just a brat, and take everything for granted. I
realized my mom is the way she is with me, because she just really cares about me. I realized I needed

In the time period between 1810 and the end of the 1840 s, The United States experienced a huge
social change that impacted their development. These changes include the Temperance movement, the

these events impacting social development, America developed a strong identity.
The Second Awakening is a movement that begins in 1800. This movement had different movements

This also impacted the development of America s social development because it shows how they are
starting to realize that they were treating slaves poorly and America wants to fix what they have

In the early 1810 s whiskey became the most popular American drink because it was cheaper than
milk and beer. A man named Lyman Beecher influences a movement entitled Temperance movement.
This movement is when Americans needed to use alcoholic beverages in moderation or give it up
completely. This movement has a great impact on the American social development because liquor

impacted America s social development because, with the Temperance, Act Americans had to find

Another way America s social development is the second Industrial Revolution. The second Industrial

Descartes Arguments for Substance Dualism
Does Descartes provide a convincing argument for the claim that mind and matter are distinct
substances Descartes Argument For Dualism In his Meditations Rene Descartes aimed to reconstruct
the whole of science by trying to prove the distinction between mind and matter. He gives an
argument from doubt, and another from conceivability. I will give a brief summary of the foundations
Descartes builds his thesis on, and then looking at his arguments and whether they are capable of
persuading us that dualism is a logical stance to hold. To what extent if any is Descartes successful in
showing there is a real distinction between mind and body In Descartes Meditations, Descartes aims to
reshape the whole of science by starting from ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Thus Descartes premises are false and fail to convince us of substance dualism. Moreover, Descartes
relies on having a thorough knowledge of mind and body. We may conclude with Descartes that
thought is necessary to having a mind, and materiality is necessary to having a body, it does not
inevitably follow that there is an entity whose sole nature is to think. Descartes is limited by his
subjective viewpoint that it could not be the case that extension could be another property of mind. He
needs to prove the stronger argument that it is not possible for the mind to have extension as one of it s
properties. Descartes tries to make this proof in his Divisibility Argument: Similar to this is the
Argument from Distinctness which argues for the logical possibility of separating mind from body. To
do this, mind and body would have to be distinct and thus it would prove both things. I can imagine
myself as a thinking thing existing apart from the body (as shown by the different essences in the
argument from essence.). It is conceivable that a thinking thing can exist without a body It is possible
that a thinking thing can exist without a body A thinking thing is not a body The first premise has
some major issues if we refer back to our objections to the argument from essence. We came to the
conclusion that

The journal Comprehensive evaluation of player Surface interaction on artificial soccer turf was
written by a collaboration of people publishing the results of tests of a study of soccer cleats
performance on soccer turfs. This journal was written in 2009 by the authors Clements Müller,
Thorsten Sterzing, Justin Lance, and Thomas L. Milani. The purpose of this journal was to publicize
the finding of a soccer related study. The study s purpose was to evaluate the traction characteristics of
four different stud configurations on Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA) 2 Star,

In respects to the journals construction of information and literature, it would be difficult to find much
to critique about the work due to the information being all within the journal and easily accessible.
Due to the fact that this journal is well written and organised, instead of critiquing the writing of the
journal as a whole, this paper will examine the study within the journal. The study as a whole was well
constructed in regards to obtaining accurate information and accounting for error, but in truth could be
better. This paper will evaluate what this study could have done to obtain even greater information.
Before critiquing what the study could have done differently, the original study must be examined.
The purpose of this study was to determine the best performing stud configuration when performing
on artificial turf. To obtain accurate statistics for the study, the selected subjects were roughly all the
same age, height, and mass as one another. The statistics needed to produce a conclusion came from
testing performance, perception, biomechanics, and mechanical, which had to be obtained through the
measurements of multiple skill tests. Each course required participates to wear all four configurations
of studs, the configurations being hard ground design, firm ground design, soft ground design, and an
experimental prototype. In testing for performance and related perception, participates had to partake

Life In A Tide Pool Research Paper
Ocean water is always moving, and gravity from the sun and the moon pulling on the waters of the
ocean causes what s called tides. Each day there are two high tides, when the water moves higher onto
the beach, and two low tides, when the water moves further away from the beach back out toward the
main body of water. A tidepool is a pool of water left behind by the ocean tides. Oysters, seabirds, blue
crabs, and cordgrass can all live in a tidepool. Let s explore the tidepool habitat.
When high tides come up onto the beach, the water brings animals and plants with it. Tide pools are
formed when low tide takes the water back out toward the sea, and some water gets trapped and left
behind. Things like rocks and low spots, like shallow holes, can keep the water from leaving the beach
area. Plants and animals can make a tidepool their home, or habitat. A habitat is the environment in
which plants and animals live.
Plants and animals in a tidepool habitat live in an aquatic habitat, or water environment. Life in a tide
pool is not easy. Although high tide brings into the tide pool more fresh seawater, animals, and plants,
the waves are very powerful. Also, once low tide happens again, the tide pool begins ... Show more

Macbeth s Descent Into Evil
In William Shakespeare s Macbeth, the tragic hero Macbeth, descends into evil after a prophecy from
three witches sparks his ambition and tempts Macbeth into committing horrible deeds out of paranoia,
arrogance, and spite. Macbeth begins his chain of murders due to the fact that he wishes to become the
King of Scotland. In Act One, Scene three of Macbeth, three witches arrive and prophesize that
Macbeth will become the Thane of Cawdor and the King. Soon after the witches disappear, Macbeth
is delivered the news that he was named Thane of Cawdor. This occurrence causes Macbeth to believe
each part of the prophecy and he allows his ambition to take control of his thoughts, which leads him

The Importance Of Media In Mass Media
There are many different media outlets, and alternatives available to individuals in today s society to
receive information other than what is available in mass media. One alternative media is PBS. PBS is
unlike many programming stations around the nation. Their idea is to treat people like citizens and not
as consumers. On the Public Broadcasting Service website, it describes how their take on the news is
quite different from other stations. They believe that they are America s largest classroom, the Nation
s largest stage, and a trusted window to the world (2016). I am going to describe in the following
paper the background of the Public Broadcasting Service, how their view is different than corporate
giants, and what type of future does a company like this have in the kind of media world we live in
today.
Public Broadcasting Service is a different kind of media outlet than many. PBS different than other
media sectors because it is a private and a nonprofit corporation (2016). The people that make PBS the
company it is today is the people that belong to America s television. The people of America s
television are noncommercial, educational licensees that operate in 350 member stations and serve all
50 states (2016). PBS does not only provide broadcasting to the fifty states in the United States, but
they also inform the people of Puerto Rico, U.S. Virgin Islands, Guam, and American Samoa (2016).

Persuasive Speech On Babysitting
Many teenagers turn toward babysitting as a means of earning money. However, the first time a person
babysits can be nerve wracking. Children are unimaginably important to their parents. It takes a lot of
trust for a parent to put his or her child in the care and protection of a babysitter. This puts an immense
amount of pressure on a babysitter to be perfect. Despite all the stress babysitting can bring, it is easy
if you follow four simple rules. When first arriving at the house, it is important to ask for all the
necessary contact and emergency information, so that if anything bad happened, you would know who
to call and what to do. Because an emergency is a high stress situation, you could easily forget the
emergency information. It is helpful to write down the information as you receive it and putting it
somewhere that is readily available. This eliminates the possibility of forgetting the information and
ensures that you can handle an emergency quickly and effectively.
Along with emergency and contact information, ask about the child s typical schedule when they eat
meals, if and/or when they take a nap, and other basic rules the parent has. Do your best to stick to
these schedules, but do not force the schedule on the child. Sometimes kids get tired sooner than
naptime or are not hungry at dinnertime. This is completely okay. Do not be afraid to upset the parent
by not following the schedule strictly. Generally, children are unpredictable and schedules are only

Mental Illnesses In Children
Mental illnesses in children are so complex that psychiatrists cannot always detect them. It becomes
harder and harder for specialists to diagnose cerebral illnesses in young children due to the fact that a

diseases, such as Bipolar Disorder, are not diagnosed until the age of twenty one or older due to the
changing of hormones and puberty occurring in the body that disrupts/limits the functions of
important glands. This is an important factor, being that over three percent of American youth under

American Society and their obsession with cleanliness and the up keeping of the human body. That
people would go so far as to participate in things they do not like or find uncomfortable to preserve

case? What constitutional issues are in question? What did the court decide, and what were there
reasoning of the justices? What is the significance of the case? The facts of the case was the police
officers came to Ms. Dollree Mapp home on May 23, 1957, on the suspicion that she was harboring a
bomb suspect and illegal betting equipment. The police officers ask to enter her home, but she refused
them entry into her home without a search warrant. The officers came back with a piece of paper, then
proceeded to break into Ms. Mapp home to search for bomb suspect, but no suspect was found, but
during the search officers found lewd and lascivious books; which was prohibited by Ohio state law to
have any obscene material in your possession. It would later found out that it was an illegal search and
seizure because the paper that the officer held was not a search warrant. Ms. Mapp was arrested,
prosecuted, found guilty and sentenced for possession of obscene materials. Ms. Mapp tried to appeal
the decision on the case, the Ohio Supreme Court recognized the unlawfulness of the search, but
upheld the conviction on the grounds established by the Supreme Court decision on Wolf v.

franchising is adaptable to corporate expansion in France. Franchising and Licensing Defined The line
between franchising and licensing is not always clear and definitive. This is especially true when

Hitler s Rise to Power
Hitler s rise to power was not inevitable. It depended heavily on a range of factors, events and
circumstances that were occurring at the time. The most important of these being, the collapse of the
German economy, the failed beer hall putsch and the weakness and infighting of the Weimar Republic.
It was only through a combination of these unlikely circumstances that Hitler was able to come to
power.
One of the key events that allowed Hitler to come to power was the collapse of the German economy.

(Geary, 2000 pg 21) Without this incentive to vote for the Nazi party, Hitler may never have come to

Another significant event in Hitler s journey to power was the Beer Hall putsch. The Beer Hall putsch
was an attempt by the Nazi party to gain control of the government by force. It is widely regarded as a
total failure with 16 stormtroopers being killed and Hitler being sent to prison for High Treason
(Kitson, 2001 pg 120). It was during his nine months in prison that Hitler was able to reflect upon the
fortunes of the Nazi party, coming to the conclusion that if he were to ever become leader of Germany
it would have to be through gathering electoral support rather than through sheer force. (Kitson, 2001
pg 120) He also made several other important decisions that would greatly impact the future of the
party and ultimately allow Hitler to come to power, such as deciding that strict organisation was
necessary and a larger geographical base would distinguish the party from other Nationalist groups, as
well as concluding that the Fuhrer s will need to dominate completely to enable the Nazi s to appear
united (Kitson, 2001 pg 120). The Beer Hall putsch although a failure, made Hitler realise

  • 2. Analysis Of The Prologue Of The Canterbury Tales Bhakta, Karan English IV, Sixth Hour Mr. Adcock 8 December 2015 The Religious Vows In The Prologue of The Canterbury Tales, Geoffrey Chaucer has some religious characters who break the vows they pledge for, to get a place in the Church. Many characters in the story seem to have an awkward characteristic that the writer did not notice. Why do the religious characters break the vow? How do they break it? For example, the monk was a primary part of the church, but as you keep reading, the characters start to change in ways you could never imagine. Some character do not interact with each other depending upon their social class level. The vows that the religious characters break are the Vow of Poverty, the Vow of Chastity, the Vow of Obedience, and the Vow of Stability. The vow that is probably the most frequently broken is the Vow of Poverty. According to the Prologue of The Canterbury Tales, Chaucer says; I saw his sleeves were garnished at the hand/ With fine grey fur, the finest in the land. / And on his hood, to fasten it at his chin/ He had a wrought gold cunningly fashioned pin (197 200). As a religious figure, the monk probably should not be expensively dressed in fine fur or gold jewelry. He is also showing others that he is rich with all this jewelry. Later Chaucer says, He did not rate that text at a plucked hen/ Which says that hunters are not holy men (181 182). He ignored the rules of the monk and acted on his. Also he is ... • 4. Essay about Schizophrenia Schizophrenia It is a frightening disorder that strikes about one percent of the world population. It surfaces most frequently during puberty and has the potential to forever destroy the lives of the people who are unfortunate enough to be its victim. The disorder is schizophrenia and it manifests itself by disturbing normal psychiatric behavior. The symptoms of schizophrenia are characterized by both positive and negative symptoms. Positive symptoms include hallucinations, delusions, and other unusual or disorganized behavior. Unresponsiveness, lack of activity, and loss of interest characterize negative symptoms. Though it is possible for doctors to diagnose and treat patients with schizophrenia, the causes of schizophrenia are ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... (4) Perhaps what is most convincing, though, are the recent links made between schizophrenia and chemical imbalances in the brain. There are four main hypotheses that support the theory that biological chemistry is responsible for causing schizophrenia. The first is named the Membrane Hypothesis. Observations of persons suffering from schizophrenia suggest that a defect or impairment in nerve cell membranes could affect how neurotransmitter receptors send messages across the nerve synapses. Also, there is evidence of decreased enzymes and fatty acids among schizophrenics. (2) A second hypothesis is the Single Carbon Hypothesis. This theory explains that the single carbon folate serves as a metabolic pathway for several reactions in the brain. One of these reactions is the synthesis of methionine. It has been found that methionine metabolism is defective in many sufferers of schizophrenia. This suggests that folate is somehow related to the disorder, though exact relationship remains unknown. (2) The NDMA Receptor Hypothesis is another suspect in the search for the cause of schizophrenia. According to research, it is possible that NDMA receptor dysfunction may induce schizophrenic symptoms due to the fact that NDMA receptors operate with glutamate, an excitatory neurotransmitter. Drugs that affect NDMA receptors, such as ketamine and phencyclidine, have been found to produce hallucinations. Also, neuroleptic drugs like clozapoine have ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 8. Essay On Post Operative Risk Management What pre/peri/post operative risk management strategies will you utilize with this patient and why? Female patients diagnosed with anxiety, depression and past chronic pain are at increased risk of developing chronic post surgical pain (1). Studies have shown high preoperative anxiety and female gender are the two major risk factors of developing acute postoperative and post chronic surgical pain (1). Several strategies can be used to reduce the patient s anxiety and the incidence of developing acute post operative chronic pain. At the consultation appointment, the clinician should address patient s attitudes and concerns, educate the patient on the dental procedure, and identify the procedures that are likely to cause severe pain (1). Studies show chronic post surgical pain is associated with poor surgical technique, increased time of surgery, and operations with high risk of nerve injury (1). One may consider the use of cone beam topography to map the inferior alveolar nerve and its proximity to the tooth in question. • 9. The Experiment Of The First Experiment Unlike the first experiment which lasted three seasons, this one lasted only one season, from May to November 2013. Following a seed pre germination period of 72 hours in the dark (25°C), all treatments were planted in 2.5 L pots filled with a nitrogen free substrate of fine quartz sand. The authors disposed the pots in rows with 15 cm inter rows. They further fertigated the growing plants every two hours with a complete nutrient solution, excluding nitrogen. Similarly to their first experiment, the authors arranged this one in a slit plot design with four replicated blocks. This time, they used six treatments per block: 1) alive alfalfa and tall fescue; 2) dead alfalfa and tall fescue; 3) alive white clover and perennial ryegrass; 4) dead white clover and perennial ryegrass; 5) pure tall fescue and; 6) pure perennial ryegrass. These treatments were divided between two randomized sub blocks with or without a legume. For the dead legumes, the authors previously grew the plants for three months, then cut them right below the taproot collar and further planted the grass species according to the treatments. Four days after the transplant, treatments containing live legumes were inoculated with rhizobia. To do so, the authors collected soil from the 0 20 cm soil horizon of experiment 1. They took several samples, mixed them and dissolved a sub sample of 10 grams into 1 L of deionized water. The authors then inoculated experiment 2 pots with 10 mL of this solution and further ... • 10. Raft Of The Medusa And The World Is Too Much With Us Aishah Tasneem October 20, 2015 Muharram 7, 1437 Fareeda Abdur Rahman Romanticism Romanticism emerged in the 18th 19th centuries (primarily in opposition to Neo Classism) as a way to express, as Victor Hugo said, liberalism in literature. The Romantic way of thinking emphasized freedom from rules, and individuality. Many works of art and pieces of literature were made following this theme, among them the painting, Raft of the Medusa and the poem the The World is too Much with us . The Raft of the Medusa is a painting done by Theodore Gericault in the 1800s. It is modeled after the tragedy that was the shipwreck of the French naval frigate, Méduse, and it depicts the survivors who were adrift on the raft. The poem, The World is too much with us is a sonnet written by the Englishman William Wordsworth in 1802. The composition is a romantic and satirical piece criticizing the people of the modern world for their materialistic values and their disregarding of nature. Both of these works are the epitome of Romanticism, as they both highlight the focal points of Romantic thought; interest in the common man, strong senses and emotions, awe of nature, celebration of the individual, and the importance of imagination. The Romantics enjoy the struggle of the common man , and judging by the attire of the men on the Raft of the Medusa , they are peasants just poor, everyday guys. These men have been subjected to this terrible fate by the actions of those more fortunate ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 12. How Does Myrtle Wilson Use Deception In The Great Gatsby them both as well as her denial reveals to the reader that her deception is rooted from her dishonour. Ultimately, Daisy was always going to be drawn to Tom as he had been from a wealthy heritage and lives in East egg in an upmarket residence, unlike Gatsby who was of new money and lived in West egg. Daisy was superficial and money was her driving force and priority, even her voice is full of money. She had been everywhere and seen everything and done everything but she was unaware that money does not bring contentment. This statement reflects the easy mobility of her lifestyle and those of the higher class. She would still give Gatsby false hope you know I love you as his rise in wealth was appealing and could be of a benefit to her. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Like Daisy, Myrtle was passionate about her husband at first, but the marriage has since been at breaking point. While Daisy doesn t have any real desire to leave Tom, Myrtle is eager to leave, and very dismissive of her husband I never was any more crazy about him than I was about that man there. She makes it clear she thinks she is finally heading for bigger and better things as he wasn t fit to lick her shoe. A glimpse of the world of wealth was enough to turn her head and create a new artificial women. In Chapter two, her appeal to wealth is shown further with the influence of the dress her personality had also undergone a change. She is trying to become something that she ultimately is not. Rather than face their problems as a couple, the Wilsons strive for dominance and supremacy within the marriage. While George wants to move out west, he doesn t have the money, leaving him and Myrtle in the valley of ashes and vulnerable to the dangers of the society at the time. The ashes could symbolise their troubled relationship that they cannot see an escape from. Their downfall is their unsteadiness within their marriage which stems from their financial situation. Fitzgerald is showing that those who are not wealthy and are of lower classes are much more vulnerable to tragedy, which in the end is Myrtles death. George Wilson is more humble than his wife. He seems to be satisfied and happy with his life until he discovers that his wife is having an affair and being dishonest. His character is comparable with Gatsby as both are dreamers and are ruined by their unrequited love. Fitzgerald leads us to perceive the illusion that George is submissive allowing people take advantage of him. However, another side of him is revealed after he murders Jay Gatsby. • 13. Mexico Descriptive Essay Don t just stand there! Do something! my mom yelled across the driveway. Everything was outside the truck, ready to be put inside. I walked over to help my dad pack thing. Once we finally packed everything When we drove out the driveway, I got a glimpse of the small green tree in our front yard. It is so little yet so full of life. That tree always seemed to grab my attention but I never really knew why. My family in Mexico, or more specifically my Tia Olga, says it is absolutely beautiful over there. Prior to this trip, the only time we went to Mexico was for new year s. But we stayed in the gated community. I wasn t able to comprehend how someone can think that Mexico is beautiful outside of the gated communities. I always asked myself How is Mexico beautiful? Crossing the border was a lot easier than I expected. Looking out the window, I saw nothing but stray dogs, homeless drunks, and people trying to sell old stuff. It wasn t the image of beautiful I had in my mind. It was around Christmas time so everyone had their worn nativity sets out. We kept driving through Tijuana for what seemed like hours. We stopped for tacos at a little stand on the side of the road. The tacos were delicious but the man who made them looked as if he had worked all day and night. While we ate I watched these two little kids play together. By the way they were arguing, I made the assumption that they were siblings. As I watched I saw them playing with toys that seemed centuries old. They had one doll and a doll house made of sticks. The longer I watched the less I started to see the flaws. They were so happy with the little they had. I was so mesmerized by the make shift doll house my parents asked if I was okay. Yeah, I m fine. Just tired I answered quickly. After we finished eating, we drove through more what seemed like deserted towns. All around me were houses made of tin and blankets, crops in front of peoples houses, and people begging for money. It was a sad thing to see, so I turned away, closed my eyes, and slowly fell asleep. When I woke up, we had arrived at my Tia Olga s house. She had a large gate around her property protecting her and the house. When she let us in, it revealed an old and a new house, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 14. Analysis Of The Secret Lives Of Sgt. John Wilson Glory and Scandal , or in other words, Mary and John, two characters from the novel The Secret Lives of Sgt. John Wilson who fall in love but eventually end their relationship on a tragic note. Many events occurred through out the novel that caught my interest such as; the way they fell madly in love, the transition into John becoming more of a ghost than a husband, then a more twisted unforeseen plot that caught most readers entirely by surprise. The love affairs between the characters in the novel, plus the twists and turns you experience while reading is the main contributor as to why I love this book. Two polar opposites who started a life together, followed by scandal and deceit, then ended in a most unspeakable way. Mary Hutchinson was by far the most glorious and loving person through out the novel, and loved by all that knew her, We all loved one another but somehow every one of us had a special work with Polly. She was so bright and cheery and brave (Pg.7). She was a young seamstress who lived a simple life, making an honest living and was very close to her loving family. She had been pursued by her co worker the young Jack Wilson, who fall in love with her (or so she thought), but it was normal for people to be attracted to her beautiful nature. After years of courting they had finally gotten married and had children of their own, although the second would not be born until the father I say vaguely had left the country. This once highly sought after woman would now be left to care for two young children while her husband moved countries to find work (not to mention flee embarrassment). This was the moment that would change her life for the worst, only she hadn t known it yet. Jack Wilson, a name that once had meaning, but is now said with resentment, he had every opportunity to face his issues and make things right like any man should, especially whilst having a child and another on the way, even the idea of leaving caused some unhappy feedback Did you know he s thinking of running off to Canada? I d say good riddance if it wasn t for the bairn and the one on the way. (Pg.10). A lot of men take the high rout in good faith that things will change, but not Jack. Jack Wilson; like a dog with ... Bingyi was later placed in charge of bookkeeping due the owner was impressed by his hardworking attitude. However, Bingyi lost his first job when the oil store was forced to cease operation, as the owner were having losses from other business on hand. • 16. A Pragmatic Philosophy Of Second Language Acquisition A Pragmatic Philosophy of Second Language Acquisition Learning a second language is an issue of immense importance in our contemporary world. Knowledge of a second language enhances a person s economic potential in the globalized marketplace. The ability to read, write, speak, and comprehend another language empowers an individual to exchange ideas across cultural and linguistic barriers. At the center of contemporary second language acquisition is the learning and teaching of English. Due to the legacy of the British Empire and the rise of the United States as the world s last remaining superpower, English has become the main international mode of communication in science, technology, business, diplomacy and popular entertainment. While educators and students worldwide may agree that learning English is paramount, many students and teachers struggle with a pragmatic means to achieve this goal. In this paper, I discuss my pragmatic philosophy of second language acquisition (SLA) based on existing literature on the topic and my experiences teaching English to second language learners in Asia and in the United States. Pragmatism To be a pragmatic language teacher means to be sensible, realistic and practical rather than to base instructional methods solely on theoretical considerations. Brown (2007) states, Pragmatic constraints on language comprehension and production may be loosely thought of as the effect of context on a string of linguistic events (p. 232). A pragmatic ... I know I have, and here are some things I wish I could change and some of my future life goals both career and educational. One thing I wish I could change was the day I broke my mom s heart. I will give a brief summary of the foundations Descartes builds his thesis on, and then looking at his arguments and whether they are capable of persuading us that dualism is a logical stance to hold. We may conclude with Descartes that thought is necessary to having a mind, and materiality is necessary to having a body, it does not inevitably follow that there is an entity whose sole nature is to think. Descartes is limited by his subjective viewpoint that it could not be the case that extension could be another property of mind. He needs to prove the stronger argument that it is not possible for the mind to have extension as one of it s properties. Descartes tries to make this proof in his Divisibility Argument: Similar to this is the Argument from Distinctness which argues for the logical possibility of separating mind from body. To do this, mind and body would have to be distinct and thus it would prove both things. I can imagine myself as a thinking thing existing apart from the body (as shown by the different essences in the argument from essence.). Each day there are two high tides, when the water moves higher onto the beach, and two low tides, when the water moves further away from the beach back out toward the main body of water. A tidepool is a pool of water left behind by the ocean tides. Oysters, seabirds, blue crabs, and cordgrass can all live in a tidepool. Let s explore the tidepool habitat. When high tides come up onto the beach, the water brings animals and plants with it. Tide pools are formed when low tide takes the water back out toward the sea, and some water gets trapped and left behind. Things like rocks and low spots, like shallow holes, can keep the water from leaving the beach area. Plants and animals can make a tidepool their home, or habitat. • 27. Persuasive Speech On Babysitting Many teenagers turn toward babysitting as a means of earning money. However, the first time a person babysits can be nerve wracking. Children are unimaginably important to their parents. It takes a lot of trust for a parent to put his or her child in the care and protection of a babysitter. This puts an immense amount of pressure on a babysitter to be perfect. Despite all the stress babysitting can bring, it is easy if you follow four simple rules. When first arriving at the house, it is important to ask for all the necessary contact and emergency information, so that if anything bad happened, you would know who to call and what to do. Because an emergency is a high stress situation, you could easily forget the emergency information. It is helpful to write down the information as you receive it and putting it somewhere that is readily available. This eliminates the possibility of forgetting the information and ensures that you can handle an emergency quickly and effectively. Along with emergency and contact information, ask about the child s typical schedule when they eat meals, if and/or when they take a nap, and other basic rules the parent has. Do your best to stick to these schedules, but do not force the schedule on the child. Sometimes kids get tired sooner than naptime or are not hungry at dinnertime. This is completely okay.
