The Pros And Cons Of Classic Liberalism
Within today s society we are commonly faced with the moral question, what seems logically correct
vs what seems ethically correct. It is an inquiry that goes hand in hand with if people are born
naturally evil, or if that trait itself is developed over time. However, as a whole the overriding debate
is not directed towards human nature itself, but rather to what degree should the government really be
involved in our economic system in order to create an accommodating society. Over time human
nature has drastically evolved to what it is today, but what is still undeniable is that there has, and
likely always will be a division among individuals. Those divisions being based upon class structure.
The source given states, Individuals are, by nature, unique and unequal. Efforts by the state to interfere
with the lives of individuals will result in a restrictive and inefficient society. This is a direct link to
the perspectives and ideologies presented with the idea of Classic Liberalism. By definition classic
liberalism is an ideology that values individual freedoms in the sense of religion, speech, press, etc, as
well as supporting limited government involvement economically. This idea has been supported by
many in the past, including philosophers such as John Stuart Mill and Adam Smith. The author of the
source is clearly a supporter of right wing economics. They believe in individualism over collectivism,
and like many philosophers, they also believe that government is only

The internet revenue earned by Marks and Spencer Group plc reached £ 100 million in the year 2007
(Anon A, 2011). This strategic decision will also be discussed in more detail later in this report. As a
final significant event on the company timeline, in November 2009 it was announced Marc Bolland
would take over as Executive Chairman from Stuart Rose in early 2010.
M amp;S outlined their strategic plan between 2010 and 2015 and thus the strategy changes chosen in

Strategy Definition
Before the individual strategic changes are described and evaluated, it is necessary to fully understand
the definition of the term strategy and strategic management.
The flame of competition has changed from he smokey yellow to intense white heat. For companies to
survive and prosper they will have to have a vision, a mission and strategy (Johnson, 2001). The use
of strategy in this well known quote from the Chief Executive of Lloyds TSB Peter Elwood shows the
importance strategic decisions plan in the modern era for organisations. To supplement this, strategy is
theoretically defined as the direction and scope of an organisation over the long term, which achieves
advantages in a changing environment through its configuration of resources and competences with
the aim of fulfilling stakeholder expectations (Johnson et al., 2005). According to this definition, the

The Issue Of Gun Rights
Gun Rights Even though congressional gun related legislation remains stalemated, there is still a
continued argument over whether laws should be enacted to restrict guns or not enacted to allow gun
rights. Not allowing law abiding citizens, who support the constitution, to exercise their rights to
obtain and own firearms is unjust. Not only does this lead to making all gun owners criminals, it also
makes them easy targets. Citizens who pass background checks should be allowed to obtain and
possess firearms and be able to have concealed carry. Congress should not enact gun control laws
because American s have the right to protect themselves against criminals who usually find ways
around gun restrictions. Rather than hastily passing gun control laws, Congress should pass laws and
focus on issues like awareness and treatment of mental illnesses. Citizens of the United States have the
Constitutional right to bear arms. The Second Amendment of the Constitution reads: A well regulated
Militia, being necessary to the security of a Free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms,
shall not be infringed. Not to mention that the military fights and dies for rights given to us via the
Constitution. All these brave men and women that are trained in firearms, that signed up to serve in
the military, they re largely disarmed especially on our military bases, We need to look at letting the
men and women that know firearms and are trained in them do what they do best, which is

He Impact of Today s Technology on Banking
I am greatly honored to be here as Chairman of the Basel Committee on Banking Supervision. I d like
to begin by thanking the Swiss National Bank, Kurt Hauri and the Swiss Federal Banking
Commission, and Andrew Crockett and the BIS for organizing and hosting this important conference.
They ve done a wonderful job, for which I know we re all very grateful.
It is also a great pleasure to be with you under such dramatically different circumstances than when
we last gathered together. Just two years ago, turbulence in the financial markets around the world had
affected, in one way or another, the banking systems of virtually every nation, and bank supervisors
were struggling to preserve confidence and stability. Today, of course, the global ... Show more

Today, information of all kinds is transmitted easily, inexpensively and instantaneously around the
world, providing finger tip access to anyone with a laptop computer, cellular phone or palm pilot. As
but one example, I d mention that, as of last month, the most popular items on the Federal Reserve s
public web site including statistical reports on foreign exchange rates, selected interest rates, consumer
credit and industrial production, along with press releases and Federal Open Market Committee
announcements are accessible by wireless remote.
If information is power, and it surely is, then a profound and irreversible transfer of power is
underway in the global financial marketplace from providers of products and services to consumers.
For example, the Internet something most of us had never heard of five years ago is changing how
consumers shop for financial products and services, the prices they pay, and with which providers they
establish relationships.
In response, financial institutions, who once viewed technology mainly as a cost center, now see the
Internet and other technological capacities as strategic tools for enhancing the value of customer
relationship through cross selling and improved customization. A recent survey of bank managers in
the United States reported that, for the first time, investment in Internet

Innate Sexual Identity
I believe people are born with an innate sexual identity that they can not change. I base this belief on
books and articles of scientific research that I have read over the years. However, I believe many
individuals lie to themselves and/or to others about their sexual identity due to social pressures.
I believe that many parents who disrespect homosexuals, bisexuals, and transgendered people openly
in front of their children may trigger the children into repressing their sexual identities. As an
example, if a homosexual child were born into a family who does not approve of homosexuality he or
she may be inclined to pretend to be heterosexual. I believe many individuals even get married and
have children with opposite sex partners, while denying

The Government s Methods Of Intervention
The government s methods of intervention are to enhanced public/private collaboration, proposing
new cybersecurity legislations, established partnerships to secure technology, data information
sharing, protected consumers, and increase security on Federal networks (Fact Sheet). By detecting
common cyber dangers and obtain additional resources from the private sector assets can reduce the
risk of threats against our country. President Obama and his Administration has addressed the major
risk of cybersecurity facing our nation today. The government has executed an extensive variety of
regulations to improve upon cybersecurity, residential and globally, to enhance cyber defense
mechanisms and prevention measures. On February 13th, 2015, the White House held a Cybersecurity
and Consumer Protection Summit, and the President issued an Executive Order to encourage the
development of Information Sharing and Analysis Organizations (ISAOs) to serve as the hubs for
sharing critical cybersecurity information and promoting collaboration for analyzing this information
both within and across industry sectors (Fact Sheet). To boost cybersecurity for the public good, file
sharing policies and regulations should be implemented regarding data sharing developed to uncover
data about the dangers and vulnerabilities in its framework. By overseeing file sharing regulations and
additional regulations or policies, the government can improve technology innovations to enhance
cybersecurity. For

The Complexity of Team Work
Introduction The complexity of teamwork is more than what Merriam Webster defines teamwork as
the work done by people who work together to do something . Teamwork involves good practices and
strategies utilized in a cohesive manner to get to a common goal. Therefore a clear definition of a team
must first be established in order to further understand the complexity of the teamwork process. A
team is a collection of two or more people with either similar or different disciplines dedicated to the
pursuit of a specific goal (Gilbert, 2004). Hence, the determinant in the level of participation from
team members for a functioning team is a joint commitment (Gilbert, 2004). The successful use of
team practice aims to better serve respected ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Decision by Majority Vote/ Rule The most common methodology is decision by majority vote/rule
(Lecture Day 4, 2014). Decision by majority vote/rule differs because a sole person does not have the
final say. In majority vote/rule more than 50% of the group needs to reach a consensus in order to
finalize a decision. This methodology is most appropriate when the implementation of a decision does
not need the commitment of all members (Lecture Day 4, 2014). Many literatures support the
conclusion that majority vote/ rule, although convenient in its speed, is incompetent. Kerr and Tindale
(2004) suggest that this methodology leads to an individual bias. They continue by arguing that
decisions are put in a position of A or B, it presents the option in which decisions are solely based on
which option outweighs the other. This process minimizes discussion as team members may fall into a
majority. Miller (1985) supports this argument as he states that even if the formal rule is meant to
remain unanimous, the informal rule may be to support decisions made by the majority. Ultimately
what determines a decision by majority is the amount of information team members have in regards to
each alternative. If one option provides more details versus another that is vague, it is

Abby Wambach s Legacy
There are millions of people in this world, in fact, many are influential. These people have a positive
impact on the world by inspiring many people who need to show off their beliefs, accomplishments,
and make a legacy that everyone soon should know. Abby Wambach, she shows these traits by letting
the world know what she believes in and what she has accomplished, she is not afraid to show herself
to the world. Abby Wambach is influential because of her beliefs, her athletic accomplishments, and
her legacy. To begin, Abby Wambach is influential to our nation because of her beliefs, she doesn t
want her career to be her only fame, she believes in gender equality, and she doesn t want to be
noticed as a soccer player. For example, according ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

people to not be talking about Abby Wambach in 10 years. If that s the case, that means the game has
gone forward and that it s popular without her. That s kind of what she s always hoped for. This is an
example of Abby s legacy because it shows that she doesn t want to be the definition of soccer and
that soccer is, well still soccer without her. Another example found on The Critical Legacy of Abby
Wambach says, The game of soccer isn t so different. We ve come to expect that the best known
players in the soccer world are usually the loudest and flashiest either in their attitude or their style of
play. But that s not Abby either. Since her first appearance on the U.S. women s national soccer team

and enthusiastic on the field which turns out is what made her so popular and recognizable because
that s what soccer is about. The last example found on Abby Wambach s Towering Legacy Only

Taking a Look at Eleanor Roosevelt
Eleanor Roosevelt is one of the most famous First Ladies in history. Although she was awkward and
shy as a child, she married Franklin Delano Roosevelt, and became an influential figure to the world
as well as an inspiration to women everywhere in her own right. Eleanor was more than a president s
wife; she was an eloquent speaker, delegate of the United Nations, and overall an independent woman.
Anna Eleanor Roosevelt was born on October 11, 1884 in New York City. She grew up with a wealthy
family in the Manhattan boroughs. She was the sister of two younger brothers: Elliott Jr. and Hall. Her
parents, Elliott and Ann, were socialites at the top of New York s society. Although her parents were
wealthy, it did not buy them their happiness. Before Eleanor was five, her father broke his ankle while
doing somersaults for the county circus. To reduce the pain of his injury, Elliott began drinking more
heavily. Because of Elliott s moodiness and depression, he set out to find a cure for himself. This
separated him from all of his children, including Eleanor. Without Eleanor s father with her, she
became discouraged. Her only wish was to make her father happy. Not only was Eleanor upset over
Elliott leaving; Anna was as well. Anna was furious with his decisions and started to neglect her
children. Eleanor s education was disregarded, so her mother hired her a tutor. While this was
occurring, Anna was diagnosed with an unknown illness. A few weeks after Ann had surgery, she died

Cultural Practices between Men and Women in Nigeria

Creative Media Industries are swiftly shifting its focus to solely digital media and opportunities for
creative writers are paid no attention but a Canada based Nigerian scholar at the thirty first yearly
covention of the Association of Nigerian Authors, points out that writers are the world s window into a
culture Adesanmi (2013). Novelists, biographers, historians, scriptwriters, and more recently, bloggers
are the constant that record and catalogue the culture, norms and trends of a particular period or
people. Through creative writing the culture of a group of people is revealed and documented. This

People s lives and cultures are made up of coinciding stories, and the monolithic impression of
Nigerian women in literature still needs to be challenged.
LITERATURE REVIEW/CRITICAL UNDERPINNING In Nigeria, men expect and demand respect,
cultural practices show that the major roles of women is to submit to their men, raise the children and
feed them. From the precolonial period to present time, women s roles have advanced but the Nigeria
has always been a patriachial society, the concept of patriachy is crucial...because feminism needed a
term by which the totality of oppressive and exploitative relations which affect women could be
expressed (Humm 2003:200).
Colonialism ushered education and with time, women were allowed to be educated and became
exposed and aware of their rights but:
...women s rights and women s being have always been taken for granted, nicely and safely tucked
away under the bed of patriarchy. Silence was the virtue of women and passivity their garner, but it
was not always so. Traditional societies in pre colonial times had spheres of power and influence for
women in closely knit organizations that helped them maintain a

Music videos have come a long way in upcoming years, but how did they originally start off? Where

The beginning of music television received a great contribution from an Australian television shows
called Countdown and Sounds which were both premiered in 1974. They helped make music videos
popular in many countries. The director of Countdown also created the first music video to ever be air
on MTV called Video Killed The Radio Star in 1981. That influenced them to create a 24 hour a day
music channel. During the 1980s a lot of artist started creating promotional videos for their fans to see.
In the 1980s all the directors worked towards making their post production effects as best as possible
and adding a story line to it sometimes. Some music videos which were not that popular because
promotional films were mostly to show the artist and this type of film did not. It is called Non

Tombstone Movie Analysis
What goes through your mind as you are observing a film? Do you notice the way the camera angles
play with your mind and make you wonder? Or do you spot the way the lighting techniques help to
communicate the story? Maybe you hear the score or the dialogue and witness the sense tingling notes
and words that make you guess what is going to happen next. Whatever it may be, films are amazing
works of art that stimulate emotions and help you experience the story in a deeper way. I had the
opportunity to view the movie Tombstone and pay closer attention to the details that make the film
what it is. Tombstone is a western film about a lawman named Wyatt Earp (portrayed by Kurt Russel)
who is the protagonist in the story, along with his two brothers Virgil Earp (Sam Elliot) and Morgan
Earp (Bill Paxton). With his brothers, Wyatt also has a trusty sidekick by the name of Doc Holliday
(Val Kilmer) and they are feuding with the ruthless rebels of the time, known as the cowboys. The
leader of the cowboy gang is an outlaw named Curly Bill Brocius (Powers Boothe) and he has a right

Barack Obama, President of the United States, is said to have delivered one of the most beautifully

death of Reverend Clementa Pinckney, a man whose life was cut short under the hands of a white
supremacist. Obama s speech resonated so well with citizens because of the writing and the delivery
altogether. Specifically, the internal workings of the speech were current with Reverend Pinckney s
principles and beliefs. The fortitude laced in his voice also contributed greatly to the effect the speech
had on the people. President Obama was able to relate extremely well to speech goers because he used

The Pros And Cons Of Texting While Driving
Florida Highway Patrol Sgt. Mark Wysocky says it is hard to separate texting drivers from drunken
drivers as he cruises down a suburban interstate highway. Both weave. They speed up and slow down
for no obvious reason and get too close to other cars. They endanger their lives and others.
``There s one, he says, as a woman zips past. But even though he could see her texting, he couldn t
ticket her Florida statutes wouldn t allow it because she wasn t breaking any other traffic laws.
Florida, with some of the nation s deadliest roads, is one of the last states to not fully ban texting while
driving, but the Legislature will soon consider a bill that would. However, studies conflict over
whether such bans have any effect.
Currently, Florida law says texting by noncommercial drivers is a secondary offense law enforcement
officers must see another violation like speeding or an illegal lane change before they cite a driver for
texting. The bill would make texting a primary offense. The fine for a first offense would remain $30
plus court costs and add no points to the driver s record. Previous attempts have failed, but this bill has
support from legislative leaders.
Forty three states already make texting while driving a primary offense. Three besides Florida list it as
a secondary offense Nebraska, Ohio and South Dakota. There is no state law against texting in
Arizona, Montana and, for noncommercial drivers 22 and older, in Missouri. The federal government

Social Media For Health, Fitness And Beauty Tips
Alana Putnam Rough Draft
Did you know that 68% of women in the United States use social media for health, fitness and beauty
tips (Cohen)? Many women of all ages are dealing with the pressure that social media can put on them
to have the perfect body. There are many different ways of dealing with this issue, that include
positive and negative outcomes when dealing with this problem (Reed). Also, just like every story
there is two different sides to this issue. Social media has been putting too much pressure on women to
have perfect bodies or that they have to be in perfect shape all of the time. The many women who use
social media for health purposes helps boost up the usage of different social media sites, but many bad
effects can come out of this pressure that is put on women. This became an issue very far back in the
past, Anorexia began in the 1870s but didn t become popular until 1960s and 1970s. Bulimia began in
the 1980s and was popularized as soon as it started. The idea of a perfect body has changed a lot over
time from very curvy, to very skinny and back again multiple times depending on where you are
(Reed). Using very thin models became very popular after World War 2 and people believed that this
was the new perfect body. In the 1990s more magazines began to promote plastic surgery on women
and people began to invest in it (Redar). Studies have also shown that once a woman develops an
eating disorder it is harder for her to get into a healthier

Analysis Of When The Lone Ranger And Tonto Fistfight In...
For decades discrimination has been continuously growing, being angled at minority groups. These
negative outlooks have created many barriers and disadvantages, with society, for those belonging to
different cultures. Each set of characters within the stories are created with different backgrounds, but
live with similar expectations and struggles. These barriers occur in day to day activities and
interactions, affecting individuals, and creating negativity. Paul K. Chappell once said, To truly listen
to others, we must develop empathy. If we do not empathize with people, we cannot really hear what
they are saying. When we do not listen with empathy, we hear only their words (Chappell). White
reading each short story, Amy Tan s Two Kinds, and Sherman Alexie s When the Lone Ranger and
Tonto Fistfight in Heaven, the reader is able to connect the stories characters through race, culture, and
ethnicity to create that feeling of empathy Chappell was trying to introduce.
In the stories, two kinds and The Lone Ranger and Tonto Fistfight in Heaven, we see how the families
each are treated poorly because they are of different races. In two kinds the family is a Chinese family.
When moving to the United States Tan must change to look more like an American girl so they cut her
hair. Tan explains her change by saying, I now had hair the length of a boys, with straight across bangs
that hung at a slant two inches above my eyebrow (516). Tans original look made her stand out too
much compared to an American child. By cutting off her hair she felt that she could finally become
perfect (516). By explaining the drastic changes they felt were needed Tan is showing how far
individuals are willing to go in order to be accepted. In The Lone Ranger and Tonto Fistfight in
Heaven the characters is spoken poorly to by an officer. When found driving around late at night the
main character is told you should be more careful where you drive, says the officer continuing with,
your making people nervous. You don t fit the profile of the neighborhood (35). The young man is
being told that people are afraid of him because of how he looks. The color of his skin or the length of

Events Leading Up To The American Revolution
The events that led up to the American Revolution war or not big events but a small set of events
when compounded together each created the catalyst to launch the colonists into revolt. The first of
the events to create the spiral effect that launched the revolution is the seven year war or the French

Most notably was the European industrial boom. The industrial revolution was the rapid growth in
new industry evidenced by antiquating the use of hand tools in conjunction with the power driven

business operation. The effect that this expansion had was felt in every city, town and small hamlet
throughout England. Prior to the spark that ignited the revolution an artisan would create his or her
craft by hand and maybe make one or two items a day. With the use of steam powered machines a
product could be produced at ten times that rate. Obviously that made the owners of the new
businesses very happy. What did happen were unprecedented growth factories and jobs seemingly to

Protein deficiencies are commonly observed in older adults, leading to decreased levels of physical
activity. Nutritional interventions with whey protein could improve these muscle parameters. Both
young and older D. melanogaster were fed a whey protein diet. Compared to the younger D.
melanogaster, the older population showed improved muscle power, grip strength and less muscle
fatigue. The climbing assay results were statistically significant, whereas the flying assay results were

Whey protein is digested quickly because it is a leucine rich protein, and has a track record in being
more successful in synthesizing muscle protein in older populations than casein protein which is
digested more slowly (van Dijk et. al. 2016). Whey protein is given to D. melanogaster flies rather
than hemp or soy protein, because soy protein and hemp proteins are plant based proteins while whey
protein is from cows. Animal based proteins are easier to digest compared to plant based proteins.
The study investigated the impacts of whey protein on two population groups that consisted of young
and old population of D. melanogaster because muscle damage could be simulated by age. As people
grow older, more damage in muscles occurs, and whey protein is expected to have a greater effect.
This effect is investigated in this experiment with D. melanogaster, where whey protein improves
muscle activity in older D. melanogaster.
D. melanogaster is a model organism in this experiment. A model organism is an organism which is
easy to study because it is cheap, reproduces easily and quickly, and the workings of it can lead us to
understand how other organisms work. By giving whey protein supplements to D. melanogaster and
observing the effects, it can provide understanding as to how a similar amount of whey protein can
affect humans. Of

The War Of World War I
Although all countries should be blamed for World War I, Germany did the most to provoke the war to
its extremes by attempting to send the Zimmerman Telegram to Mexico, which would result in
conflict with the United States of America. In 1917, Germany attempted to send the Zimmerman
Telegram to Mexico, which would try to persuade them in joining their side of the war by promising
them they would help Mexico take back the territory and states they had lost in the Mexican American
War that occurred from 1846 to 1848. Since Mexico had lost around a third of their territory from the
Mexican Cession including Texas, New Mexico, and California, where gold was discovered shortly
after it was appropriated, the offer from Germany would have been too good to ignore. Nevertheless,
British cryptographers had intercepted the secret message before it was able to reach Mexico and
showed it to America. The Zimmerman Telegram spurred outraged Americans to join the war against
Germany on April 6, 1917 on the Allies side because they were angry that Germany would pull such a
deal behind their backs. The boost of America joining the Allies side refreshed the Allies morale to
resume their ceaseless warfare and the war became more extreme with the addition of the powerful
nation (Lecture, 12/3/14). America s steel industry dominated any other country in size, so they were
able to provide tons of weapons and ammunition like machine guns and tanks for the Allies. With the

In our school system we are forced to learn history such as the Civil Rights Movement. We are taught
that racism is no longer alive with in our society. This discrimination is evident with in our community
which has started some movements to battle the issue of racism and the discrimination. Some
movements are Black Lives Matter and the kneeling during the singing of the national anthem which
was started by Colin Kaepernick back in 2016. The Black Lives Matter movement was started because
of all the police brutality that we have seen in the media. The kneeling in the national anthem started
with Kaepernick because he felt that he had to protest what he deems as wrongdoings against African
Americans and minorities in the United States. During interviews he says, I am not going to stand up

Columbus, The Indians, And Human Progress
Chapter 1 COLUMBUS, THE INDIANS, AND HUMAN PROGRESS
Thesis Statement:
Zinn argues that the perspective of indigenous people should not be omitted and argues that their
perspectives are as significant as any other. He provides insight and perspectives of the Indians to
describe how the heinous acts of the Europeans were unjustified. He also discusses that the Europeans
had a continual motive of exploring during that time which was to increase the power/authority of the
Spanish Crown by whatever means necessary, usually leading to violent wars.
B. Evidence used:
The Europeans main goal revolved around the stability of power of the Spanish Crown. The Spanish
Crown was focused on expanding their military so they needed resources such as gold to pay for the
constantly increasing military budget. Columbus used this idea to help get resources such as, boats,
men, food and weapons from the Spanish Crown. This is important because it describes the desperate
need of gold that the Spaniards had which ultimately led to the gruesome acts they committed.
Although the Spaniards and English were greeted with hospitality, food, and gifts they still sought war
because it was not enough. Zinn mentions this quote, They willingly traded everything they owned... ,
which shows that Cortes and Columbus were both greeted by the Indians with kindness. However,
they both used that to their advantage tricking them into slavery and oppression. he was so anxious to
please the King that he committed

Six Branches of Philospy
Reflection of the Six Branches of Philosophy
Various branches of philosophy have always become great debates in society. Many have questioned
metaphysics, epistemology, ethics, aesthetics, political philosophy and social philosophy. The author
will discuss and reflect on the six branches of philosophy in which she will describe a time in her life
when she have asked similar questions. In addition, the author will discuss specific circumstances that
brought her to each of the questions and what conclusions she came about.
Metaphysics
The author believes that people do have free will and that God has given men the greatest gift of all,
the ability of choice. Growing up the author was accustomed to hearing that life is already ... Show

The common citizens helps electing political parties to help solve public issues which later links to
their government by classifying themselves as Democrats, Republican or Reform.
Social philosophy The author believes that society should be held under governing laws, which will
help protect the people in a bigger scheme of things. When a larger group is being protected it will
mean that people will have to give up a little of their rights. For example, after the 911 tragedy the
writer witnessed armed soldiers in the airport and also was pulled to the side and searched thoroughly.
At first, the author felt as if she was violated, but after boarding the airplane she felt really safe.
Although individuals give up some of their rights as citizens it serves as a means to decrease chaos in
our society. When we are no longer able to change a situation, we are challenged to change ourselves
(Frankl, 2014).
Conclusion
In conclusion we end where we started philosophy can be divided into five branches which study the
existence, knowledge, action, force and art. The six branches each seek and question looking for
answers that have a relationship to what is the study of philosophy.

Persuasive Essay About Homework
Can you agree that lately homework is being largely misguided? Can you agree that homework is
being abused without producing its primary intended results? I highly urge you on behalf of all
students operating through this system; change is needed. The current use of homework may be
contributing to the decline in the motivation of students; therefore, interfering with their academic
potential. Evidently, there has been an abundance of research which shows how homework is
detrimental to a teen s self confidence, social skills, overall health, and most importantly their attitude
towards school. Why am I directing this straight to the teachers? Teachers have full control over what
they hand out and what they demand from students. Teachers also have the authority to practice their
style of teaching and alter them accordingly. Every teacher should consider the unhealthy and negative
outcomes which come with the homework system. In every student s life, a teacher is another
character you will meet who is supposed to guide, motivate, and support you through your journey in
life. Teachers are rather more like mentors. However, this concept has escaped for a majority of
students because of the pressure and the endless amount of stress which is constantly being stacked on
top of each other. In 2013, researchers from Stanford surveyed more than 4,300 students from high
schools in California. One of the questions the researchers asked the students was; did you experience

Compare And Contrast Jim Jones And Jesus Christ
Jim Jones and Jesus Christ, two names of two very known people, they share many similarities. Yet
only own of them is praised and the other is demonized. Even comparing the two is almost forbidden,
how could someone compare the savior of mankind and a man who is responsible for the death of
hundreds? Both managed to gain a large following, had people who feared them, and they both made
the ultimate sacrifice. While they share many similarities they both are remembered very differently.

by their common interest but this sense of fear as holds the society in place together. Municipals law is

together. It is then defined how parts obey the whole, so the whole can be possible. Without a superior
authoritative, we fall into isolation because we need the supreme who govern us of what is right and

National Highway Traffic Safety Administration says that this year there has people 500,000 people,

Walker Ono Face The Gaze
A Look at Differing Approaches to Feminism Through Contemporary Art
In the fifty years between the JFK assassination and a Kardashian selfie breaking the internet, two
women representing different cultures, races, times, and attitudes created two individual pieces of art
that became living commentary on the power dynamics at play in their world. In 1964, Yoko Ono
challenged both societal convention and the artist/audience relationship in her exhibit Cut Piece, and
decades later Kara Walker s Sugar Subtlety, 2014, challenged preconceived notions of racial
symbolism and societal convention on a historical level. For both creators, the idea of The Gaze is
explored and even featured, a term that addresses the controlling power a dominant group holds
through visualization and often through sexuality. However, the ways in which this term is explored
are different between the two women. While Ono s work highlights and even proves the Western male
domination involved in the idea of The Gaze , fifty years later and a difference in culture sees Kara
Walker s work create an artistic and intellectual revolution against the very power the Gaze tries to
maintain, turning the concept on its head. As the surge of Second Wave Feminism swept across the
Western world of the 1960s, Japanese artist and activist Yoko Ono created a work of performance art,
entitled Cut Piece,

Ten Traits Of Highly Effective Teachers Chapter 1 Summary
In the book, Ten Traits of Highly Effective Principals: From good to Great Performance, McEwan
discusses the facilitator in chapter 4 (2003). She describes the facilitator as a leader with abilities to
build strong relationships with parents, teachers, and students. One principal in the book, Bill, thought
the students would learn more if their teachers are understanding, caring, and genuine as opposed with
students who were taught by teachers that were not. This idea was tested and their findings were
placed in a book entitled, Kids Don t Learn From People They Don t Like (Aspey Roebuck, 1977).
The results of the study described the book perfectly. They found the students who have teachers who

These celebrations help build a positive morale among everyone involved. It is not always easily done

reading goal was able to watch the event. The students then had an ice cream party outside and extra

The Insanity Of Insanity
The mind is what drives every living creature. The brian tells us everything we need to know in order
to survive as a species. It is the most crucial aspect of what we are. Humans have the most complex
and intelligent brain out of the entire animal kingdom. The individual spirit of a human is determined
by chemicals in the brain and the interaction between them and their surroundings. So what happens
when our brain does not function correctly? What happens to the person with the ailments and what
happens to those around them as a result of it? In both books at least one character demonstrates
insanity. While the books do not specifically state that other characters have mental instability, there
are many reasons to believe that some do. Helen and Ginnie are the two characters who show explicit
insanity. Helen kills herself and leaves her two daughters in the care of their grandmother. Ginnie has
suffered from mental illness for what appears to be most of her life and ends her life in a dementia
ward. Human instinct is to survive, pass down genetics and protect your offspring. We as a species all
feel this drive and when it is put aside, ignored or acted against it is a clear sign of insanity. Helen
stone had experienced so much in her life that she could not handle reality and decided that suicide
was the best alternative. This is our brain s last resort to a problem. To think that oblivion and ending
it all is superior to living. Ginnie always showed signs

In Cold Blood Rhetorical Analysis Essay
In the opening of Truman Capote s In Cold Blood, Capote illustrates the town of Holcomb, Kansas as
a minuscule, insignificant town. Capote mentions that no one, even fellow Kansans, are acquainted
with this small town. Capote applies many rhetorical effects to describe his view of the town of
Holcomb, such as imagery and tone. Capote utilizes imagery to paint a picture of the small town of
Holcomb. Capote wants his readers to relate to the tiny town. He portrays Holcomb as out there. By
describing a town as out there, the readers immediately know that the town being described is small
and empty. The readers can think of a town that is far from the busy city. Capote wants the readers to
think of Holcomb as a town where tumbleweeds pass through without anyone noticing. Some readers
may even relate to this tiny town because they came from a small town of their own. In the second

Americans in fact, few Kansans had ever heard of Holcomb. The author implies that Holcomb will
soon be what everyone is talking about. The author also says that the town was happy that they have

Lynching s extend to burning at the stake, maiming, dismemberment, castration, and other hideous
types of physical torture. This is all more or less brought on to sustain a type of social caste system in
the South. Lynching, just like every other method of dehumanization, was seen as the most effective
means of control. image Even though there are three noted documents in regards to the history of
lynching s, there is not one that completely covers the history of lynching s. Because of Americas
general biases there is no reliable source that details the records of lynching s in America, prior to
1882. (chicagotribune.com) Following the Chicago Tribune s report the Tuskegee Institute produced a
report in 1892 where they began to make a systematic composition of lynching statistics. Beginning in
1912, the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People kept an independent record of
lynching s. The statistics reported were primarily based on newspaper reports. Because of the sheer
size of the south and the nature of it more rural nature, its districts had not always been in close
contact with the city newspapers, it is easy to assess that lynching s escaped publicity in the press.
Undoubtedly, therefore, there are errors and inaccuracies in the available lynching statistics. In every
source produced, the number of lynching s are varied. The NAACP lynching statistics give a higher
report than the Tuskegee Institutes figures.

Inditex s efficiency is the result of a more profitable investment strategy. By owning all the stores and

Embryonic Stem Cell Research And Current Use
Introduction:
The issue at discussion in this report is ESCR (embryonic stem cell research) and current use. This
issue causes controversial concerns because the first isolation of the embryo was in 1998, which is still
very recent and the policies around it are grey areas. Many countries including the United States of
America have removed funding because of issues that have risen due to religious, ethical and legal
formalities. Some of the benefits that ESC (embryonic stem cells) promise are the cure for many
diseases and even the creation of organs between other scientific advances that could save numerous
lives. The benefits that ESC could provide are sometimes questioned to be worth all the ethical issues
that they bring. Some ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The process to isolate an embryonic cell demands de inner cell of a blastocyst. A blastocyst can be
described as one of the earlier stages of an embryo, which is reached at about four to five days after
fertilization. In the blastocyst stage, the future embryo is not formed by more than fifty to a 150 cells.
In the blastocyst stage the cell is comprised of an external layer called trophoblast and the inner cell
mass comprised of approximately thirty cells which following normal procedures becomes the embryo
and the trophoblast, the placenta. In the process to cultivate the stem cell, the blastocyst must die as
the inner cell mass is removed. This practice has been legalized since 2002 in Australia but strict
guidelines in regards to licenses as to who is able to perform research and what is permitted in their
research must be met.
Alternative Views and their Explanation:
Dr. James Douglas professor and chair, cell and developmental biology director for Center of
Organogenesis has specialised and dedicated most of his career to research how tissues and organs are
generated in mammals and how cells are instructed to become specialised cells. Similarly, Dr. Eva L.
Feldman professor of neurology in the medical school A. Alfred Taubman Medical Research Institute
and director at ALS clinic has devoted her latest years in the field to conduct innovative research to
generate stem cell technology to treat ALS by injecting stem cells into the spinal cord.

Racism In Social Work
The American Ideal of Looksism is what society says we are supposed to look like, the white Anglo
Saxon Protestant ideal (Day Schiele, 2013, p. 14). An example of this is the Barbie doll. She is tall,
skinny, white, blonde hair and blue eyed. This is the doll that little girls grow up wanting to look like
because society is teaching them that this is the ideal. Otherism is the use of stereotypes to objectify
those who are different from us (Day Schiele, 2013, p. 15). If someone does not fit the ideal they are
considered not normal or bad. An example of this is objectifying a whole race; by saying the Mexicans
are stealing White jobs. While this is untrue, the Mexican heritage is different from the white Anglo
Saxon ideals, so some see it as bad and are threatened by it, thus creating this racist stereotype.
The practice of social work has evolved from three major movements, The Charity Organizations,
Settlement Houses, and Child Saving Movements. Charity organization societies were developed by
philanthropists to regulate the use of charitable agencies by the poor (pg. 52). This society was
organized to assist the needy, but also to ensure that they only received help from one charity. There is
a stigma that people should not be helped too much or they will become reliant on the assistance of the
government. Our role as a social worker is to make sure that people are getting as much assistance as
they need. Some people have no choice and do have to rely on

School Of Physical Therapy And Rehab Programs
In the 2009 regular NFL season, New England Patriots wide receiver, Wes Walker, was having one of
his finest seasons. In his last game of the regular season, Walker went down after catching a pass from
Tom Brady and attempting to juke the defender in front of him. Wes planted his leg on the turf and it
looked as though his foot got caught underneath him with his knee bent, nearly touching the field.
Walker had torn his anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) on that play. The wide receiver suffered a season
ending injury while he was leading the league with 123 catches (Marx 17). Although some factors put
more people at risk of tearing their ACL, this can really happen to anyone. Even though the tear can
affect the person physically and mentally, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Overall it is an important ligament in the knee and it is assisted by the muscles surrounding it which
helps with stabilization during lower extremity movements. The reality is that sometimes the ACL can
t endure certain movements in the knee and the ligament can be torn (School of Physical Therapy at
Texas Woman s University). The American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine found that there
are about 150,000 cases of ACL tear injuries that occur in the United States each year. These injuries
can occur for many reasons, but there are some factors that can put someone more at risk of tearing
their ACL. The two different types of risk factors are external and internal. An example of an external
factor would be the play in which the athlete injured themselves. An internal factor would be the
anatomy of the woman compared to the male (American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine).
ACL tears can occur in non contact situations. Cutting and pivoting in certain sports can increase the
risk of a tear. About 70 percent of the injuries actually occur in a non contact situation. This can
happen because the athlete has put the knee in an at risk position. Robert Marx, the author of the book
The ACL Solution: Prevention and Recovery for Sports Most Devastating Knee Injury, explains this at
risk positon as the athlete has their leg fairly straight while the foot remains planted on the ground and
the knee twisted inward. This is

The Use Of Herbs And Plants In Elizabethan England
Introduction
In Elizabethan England, herbs and plants were used and as highly regarded in everyday life. Although,
in modern times the notion of potions, and poisons made from plants are fantastical, In Shakespeare s
time they were ever present and inspired many aspects within his works. Many historians believe that
herbs and plants were used extensively in an average elizabethan, such as food, medicine, and many
other common uses in addition to the outlandish. While, the use of herbs and plants may seem
audacious now, back then it seemed at the center of life, giving many people a longer life. Elizabethan
England, was dependent on herbs and plants additionally, plants were of great importance when it
came to the history both medical and theatrical.

The ways of the old didn t just go away with time, today many of the same remedies can be used such
as mint for stomach pain, lavender for headaches, and vinegar for wounds. In this era, doctors were
expensive and only called in the most extreme of cases such as the black plague or bubonic
plague. The motto of an Elizabethan was to primarily do with what you have, by treating herbs with
care and treating the wounded they passed down tools for medical advancements centuries to come. (

Inventions That Shaped America Essay
20th Century Inventions that Shaped America
Throughout history many inventions were invented, but did not have a lasting use like the siege
weapons of medieval times, they had there one use and when that uses was no longer needed the
invention was replaced. However, many things we use and take for granted today were invented in the
20th century. The first invention to impact the country was the wright brothers invention the airplane
in 1903, the second advancement in technology was from Fritz Harber in 1909 with the process of
ammonia synthesis, the third and final invention was from Henry Ford in 1913 with the assembly line
production process. These inventions may not have been looked at the time they were invented as
something that would last forever and always be in use.
The invention of the airplane in 1903 from the Wright Brothers not only changed the way consumers
traveled, but also how countries would wage war. The U.S. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

In order for his vison to become reality he would have to come up with a plan to lower the cost of
production while increasing product output. Product output could be raised if production time could be
reduced according to Vaclav Smil Data from Ford cost books show that 151 hours was needed to make
a car in 1906, 39 in 1914 . This reduction in time spent making one car increased the affordability of
cars for the common people. The price drop was pretty substantial prior to 1913 a car cost $850 $875,
but after 1913 the price dropped 35% to $550 then the next year it was down to $440, after WWII the
price of a car was around $265 (Smil 133). The process of mass production not only worked for the
automotive companies but many other consumer items followed suite, so prices dropped and more
people where purchasing items they may not have been able to afford before. This process also created
jobs by requiring less skilled workers which helped boost the

Lewis And The Silent Planet

C.S. Lewis and the Influence of Dante in Out of the Silent Planet All throughout Lewis novels there is
evidence that clearly connects the themes and symbolism from other aspects of traditional Christian
literature both during and before he began writing. One of the most distinct examples of this occurring
within Lewis works is the influence that Dante had on the concepts that he reflects on while conveying
thoughts to his readers. This is specifically more notable a connection between Dante and Lewis when
you examine the parallels that take place within Lewis Out of the Silent Planet and Dante s Inferno.
The literary tradition left behind by Dante is both one able to influence the thoughts of others and to
teach the value of Christianity through within a fictional environment. This is similar to Lewis Space
Trilogy in more ways than one, some of which include Ransom journey in place of the pilgrim as he
travels through strange, new, territory in order to reach his goal, and the use of Malacandra to
represent the levels of Hell. Each book in the Space Trilogy continues to expand on the possible
influence that Dante may have had on Lewis while he wrote these books and aims to show Christians
the truth behind the Dante s thoughts through the use of science fiction. Many elements found within
Dante s Inferno are reintroduced through new ideas by Lewis within Out of the Silent Planet in order
to convey Christian thoughts and

Journalist Role Analysis
The journalist role is important because it provides the world with facts and the answers. Often times
politicians or public figures may not tell the world the whole truth. But because of journalist, they take
time to investigate the whole story and then provide citizens with correct news. Not only do journalist
investigate the news, journalist also take time to interview these public figures and ask the questions
that viewers want to ask. For example, Barbara Walters is known for her skills of asking the questions
that most are scared to ask. But because she is fearless and true journalist she asks these tough
questions and gets down to the nitty gritty. This is all made possible through the first amendment.
The first amendment grants journalist ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There are multiple media outlets that provides citizens with a bunch of different perspectives. For
instance, FOX news may give you a more bias opinion on Donald Trump and ABC may give you a
more bias opinion on Hillary Clinton. But because of these two outlets being opposites it gives you a
well rounded view of the election as a whole. Not only do we have national networks covering the
election we also have black media outlets like Bet News, TheGrio, The Root and many more that
provide African Americans with the black perspective on voting. Because of these outlets they let us
know the truth on who we should cast our ballot for in this upcoming election. They also ask the
questions that we as a community have but may not have the direct access to ask personally.
Furthermore, I believe Social Media plays an awesome role in the election because it lets citizens
know information right away. Because of social media, in the matter of seconds we are made aware of
breaking news. Social media also makes it harder for nominees to hide from the truth. People can
instantly tweet and video record what the nominees say and post on social media. Because of this it
helps keep viewers/citizens

2.1 Professor Ian Webster, chair of the Alcohol Education and Rehabilitation Foundation, said the
number of young people putting themselves at risk of alcohol related harm was troubling given the
impact of alcohol on brain development.
Separate figures from the Bureau of Statistics reveal consumption of pre mixed alcoholic drinks has
leapt by 15% in the past year. The figures show that 60% of female drinkers aged between 15 and 17
reported drinking a pre mixed drink, compared to 14% in 2000, suggesting the sweet and fizzy mixes
are increasingly introducing young people to alcohol.
The foundation survey also underlines the rise of alcohol related violence, with more than a quarter of
respondents having been verbally abused by someone under the influence of alcohol, and almost one
in 20 having been physically abused by a drunk person.
The survey of 23,000 people found the proportion of the general population drinking alcohol daily fell
slightly and the number of people abstaining from alcohol climbed from 9.3% to 10.1%.
The alcohol industry seized on the survey to suggest that alcohol abuse was not getting worse. Stephen
Riden, spokesman for the Distilled Spirits Industry Council of Australia, which represents alcohol
manufacturers, said the study showed Australians were moderating their alcohol

Rebecca Krieger Cottingham Cold War
Part A
Interview details of Rebecca Krieger Cottingham:
Rebecca Krieger Cottingham
Born in 1963
Has lived in the following places between 1963 and 1989: Batesville, Indiana; Tucson, Arizona;
Bloomington, Indiana; Singapore; Taipei, Taiwan, R.O.C.
This interview was done on July 17, 2016, at 6:00 pm
Part B
Me: Thank you for allowing me to interview you. I would like to ask you about the subject of the Cold
War. At the end, I will also be asking a couple personal questions.
Question 1: What was the first time you remember hearing about the conflict between the Soviet
Union (or the USSR) and the United States? Tell me about it.
Rebecca: Well, I cannot really remember the first time that I heard about the conflict between the
Soviet Union and the United States. If I think about it, I think that this knowledge was something that
I kind of just absorbed...but did not really understand because no one really took the time to explain
the situation to young children when I was young. I also really do not remember learning much about
the conflict while I was in school.
Strangely enough, I remember hiding in a closet one time, and trying to figure out how I was going to
hide and hold my breath, when the Russians came . I was trying to figure out how I could be so quiet
that they would not find me when they came to search the house. I also remember thinking that the
Russians were somewhere not that far away, where they could easily travel into Indiana and invade
and take over.

  • 2. The Pros And Cons Of Classic Liberalism Within today s society we are commonly faced with the moral question, what seems logically correct vs what seems ethically correct. It is an inquiry that goes hand in hand with if people are born naturally evil, or if that trait itself is developed over time. However, as a whole the overriding debate is not directed towards human nature itself, but rather to what degree should the government really be involved in our economic system in order to create an accommodating society. Over time human nature has drastically evolved to what it is today, but what is still undeniable is that there has, and likely always will be a division among individuals. Those divisions being based upon class structure. The source given states, Individuals are, by nature, unique and unequal. Efforts by the state to interfere with the lives of individuals will result in a restrictive and inefficient society. This is a direct link to the perspectives and ideologies presented with the idea of Classic Liberalism. By definition classic liberalism is an ideology that values individual freedoms in the sense of religion, speech, press, etc, as well as supporting limited government involvement economically. This idea has been supported by many in the past, including philosophers such as John Stuart Mill and Adam Smith. The author of the source is clearly a supporter of right wing economics. They believe in individualism over collectivism, and like many philosophers, they also believe that government is only ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This strategic decision will also be discussed in more detail later in this report. As a final significant event on the company timeline, in November 2009 it was announced Marc Bolland would take over as Executive Chairman from Stuart Rose in early 2010. M amp;S outlined their strategic plan between 2010 and 2015 and thus the strategy changes chosen in this report will partly follow this. (Source: M amp;S Annual Report, 2011) Strategy Definition Before the individual strategic changes are described and evaluated, it is necessary to fully understand the definition of the term strategy and strategic management. The flame of competition has changed from he smokey yellow to intense white heat. For companies to survive and prosper they will have to have a vision, a mission and strategy (Johnson, 2001). The use of strategy in this well known quote from the Chief Executive of Lloyds TSB Peter Elwood shows the importance strategic decisions plan in the modern era for organisations. To supplement this, strategy is theoretically defined as the direction and scope of an organisation over the long term, which achieves advantages in a changing environment through its configuration of resources and competences with the aim of fulfilling stakeholder expectations (Johnson et al., 2005). • 4. The Issue Of Gun Rights Gun Rights Even though congressional gun related legislation remains stalemated, there is still a continued argument over whether laws should be enacted to restrict guns or not enacted to allow gun rights. Not allowing law abiding citizens, who support the constitution, to exercise their rights to obtain and own firearms is unjust. Not only does this lead to making all gun owners criminals, it also makes them easy targets. Citizens who pass background checks should be allowed to obtain and possess firearms and be able to have concealed carry. Congress should not enact gun control laws because American s have the right to protect themselves against criminals who usually find ways around gun restrictions. Rather than hastily passing gun control laws, Congress should pass laws and focus on issues like awareness and treatment of mental illnesses. Citizens of the United States have the Constitutional right to bear arms. The Second Amendment of the Constitution reads: A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a Free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed. Not to mention that the military fights and dies for rights given to us via the Constitution. All these brave men and women that are trained in firearms, that signed up to serve in the military, they re largely disarmed especially on our military bases, We need to look at letting the men and women that know firearms and are trained in them do what they do best, which is ... They ve done a wonderful job, for which I know we re all very grateful. It is also a great pleasure to be with you under such dramatically different circumstances than when we last gathered together. Today, information of all kinds is transmitted easily, inexpensively and instantaneously around the world, providing finger tip access to anyone with a laptop computer, cellular phone or palm pilot. If information is power, and it surely is, then a profound and irreversible transfer of power is underway in the global financial marketplace from providers of products and services to consumers. For example, the Internet something most of us had never heard of five years ago is changing how consumers shop for financial products and services, the prices they pay, and with which providers they establish relationships. In response, financial institutions, who once viewed technology mainly as a cost center, now see the Internet and other technological capacities as strategic tools for enhancing the value of customer relationship through cross selling and improved customization. A recent survey of bank managers in the United States reported that, for the first time, investment in Internet ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

I base this belief on books and articles of scientific research that I have read over the years. However, I believe many individuals lie to themselves and/or to others about their sexual identity due to social pressures. I believe that many parents who disrespect homosexuals, bisexuals, and transgendered people openly in front of their children may trigger the children into repressing their sexual identities. As an example, if a homosexual child were born into a family who does not approve of homosexuality he or she may be inclined to pretend to be heterosexual. • 8. The Complexity of Team Work Introduction The complexity of teamwork is more than what Merriam Webster defines teamwork as the work done by people who work together to do something . Teamwork involves good practices and strategies utilized in a cohesive manner to get to a common goal. Therefore a clear definition of a team must first be established in order to further understand the complexity of the teamwork process. A team is a collection of two or more people with either similar or different disciplines dedicated to the pursuit of a specific goal (Gilbert, 2004). Hence, the determinant in the level of participation from team members for a functioning team is a joint commitment (Gilbert, 2004). The successful use of team practice aims to better serve respected ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Decision by Majority Vote/ Rule The most common methodology is decision by majority vote/rule (Lecture Day 4, 2014). Decision by majority vote/rule differs because a sole person does not have the final say. In majority vote/rule more than 50% of the group needs to reach a consensus in order to finalize a decision. This methodology is most appropriate when the implementation of a decision does not need the commitment of all members (Lecture Day 4, 2014). Many literatures support the conclusion that majority vote/ rule, although convenient in its speed, is incompetent. Kerr and Tindale (2004) suggest that this methodology leads to an individual bias. They continue by arguing that decisions are put in a position of A or B, it presents the option in which decisions are solely based on which option outweighs the other. This process minimizes discussion as team members may fall into a majority. Miller (1985) supports this argument as he states that even if the formal rule is meant to remain unanimous, the informal rule may be to support decisions made by the majority. Ultimately what determines a decision by majority is the amount of information team members have in regards to each alternative. If one option provides more details versus another that is vague, it is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Abby Wambach is influential because of her beliefs, her athletic accomplishments, and her legacy. • 10. Taking a Look at Eleanor Roosevelt Eleanor Roosevelt is one of the most famous First Ladies in history. Although she was awkward and shy as a child, she married Franklin Delano Roosevelt, and became an influential figure to the world as well as an inspiration to women everywhere in her own right. Eleanor was more than a president s wife; she was an eloquent speaker, delegate of the United Nations, and overall an independent woman. Anna Eleanor Roosevelt was born on October 11, 1884 in New York City. She grew up with a wealthy family in the Manhattan boroughs. She was the sister of two younger brothers: Elliott Jr. and Hall. Her parents, Elliott and Ann, were socialites at the top of New York s society. Although her parents were wealthy, it did not buy them their happiness. Before Eleanor was five, her father broke his ankle while doing somersaults for the county circus. To reduce the pain of his injury, Elliott began drinking more heavily. Because of Elliott s moodiness and depression, he set out to find a cure for himself. This separated him from all of his children, including Eleanor. Without Eleanor s father with her, she became discouraged. Her only wish was to make her father happy. Not only was Eleanor upset over Elliott leaving; Anna was as well. Anna was furious with his decisions and started to neglect her children. Eleanor s education was disregarded, so her mother hired her a tutor. Whatever it may be, films are amazing works of art that stimulate emotions and help you experience the story in a deeper way. Tombstone is a western film about a lawman named Wyatt Earp (portrayed by Kurt Russel) who is the protagonist in the story, along with his two brothers Virgil Earp (Sam Elliot) and Morgan Earp (Bill Paxton). With his brothers, Wyatt also has a trusty sidekick by the name of Doc Holliday (Val Kilmer) and they are feuding with the ruthless rebels of the time, known as the cowboys. Obama s speech resonated so well with citizens because of the writing and the delivery altogether. Specifically, the internal workings of the speech were current with Reverend Pinckney s principles and beliefs. Mark Wysocky says it is hard to separate texting drivers from drunken drivers as he cruises down a suburban interstate highway. Both weave. Florida, with some of the nation s deadliest roads, is one of the last states to not fully ban texting while driving, but the Legislature will soon consider a bill that would. However, studies conflict over whether such bans have any effect. Currently, Florida law says texting by noncommercial drivers is a secondary offense law enforcement officers must see another violation like speeding or an illegal lane change before they cite a driver for texting. The bill would make texting a primary offense. The fine for a first offense would remain $30 plus court costs and add no points to the driver s record. Previous attempts have failed, but this bill has support from legislative leaders. Forty three states already make texting while driving a primary offense. • 16. Social Media For Health, Fitness And Beauty Tips Alana Putnam Rough Draft Did you know that 68% of women in the United States use social media for health, fitness and beauty tips (Cohen)? Many women of all ages are dealing with the pressure that social media can put on them to have the perfect body. There are many different ways of dealing with this issue, that include positive and negative outcomes when dealing with this problem (Reed). Also, just like every story there is two different sides to this issue. Social media has been putting too much pressure on women to have perfect bodies or that they have to be in perfect shape all of the time. The many women who use social media for health purposes helps boost up the usage of different social media sites, but many bad effects can come out of this pressure that is put on women. This became an issue very far back in the past, Anorexia began in the 1870s but didn t become popular until 1960s and 1970s. Bulimia began in the 1980s and was popularized as soon as it started. The idea of a perfect body has changed a lot over time from very curvy, to very skinny and back again multiple times depending on where you are (Reed). Using very thin models became very popular after World War 2 and people believed that this was the new perfect body. In the 1990s more magazines began to promote plastic surgery on women and people began to invest in it (Redar). These barriers occur in day to day activities and interactions, affecting individuals, and creating negativity. Paul K. Chappell once said, To truly listen to others, we must develop empathy. If we do not empathize with people, we cannot really hear what they are saying. When we do not listen with empathy, we hear only their words (Chappell). White reading each short story, Amy Tan s Two Kinds, and Sherman Alexie s When the Lone Ranger and Tonto Fistfight in Heaven, the reader is able to connect the stories characters through race, culture, and ethnicity to create that feeling of empathy Chappell was trying to introduce. In the stories, two kinds and The Lone Ranger and Tonto Fistfight in Heaven, we see how the families each are treated poorly because they are of different races. In two kinds the family is a Chinese family. When moving to the United States Tan must change to look more like an American girl so they cut her hair. Tan explains her change by saying, I now had hair the length of a boys, with straight across bangs that hung at a slant two inches above my eyebrow (516). Tans original look made her stand out too much compared to an American child. By cutting off her hair she felt that she could finally become perfect (516). By explaining the drastic changes they felt were needed Tan is showing how far individuals are willing to go in order to be accepted. In The Lone Ranger and Tonto Fistfight in Heaven the characters is spoken poorly to by an officer. When found driving around late at night the main character is told you should be more careful where you drive, says the officer continuing with, your making people nervous. You don t fit the profile of the neighborhood (35). The young man is being told that people are afraid of him because of how he looks. Nutritional interventions with whey protein could improve these muscle parameters. Both young and older D. melanogaster were fed a whey protein diet. Whey protein is digested quickly because it is a leucine rich protein, and has a track record in being more successful in synthesizing muscle protein in older populations than casein protein which is digested more slowly (van Dijk et. al. 2016). Whey protein is given to D. melanogaster flies rather than hemp or soy protein, because soy protein and hemp proteins are plant based proteins while whey protein is from cows. Animal based proteins are easier to digest compared to plant based proteins. The study investigated the impacts of whey protein on two population groups that consisted of young and old population of D. melanogaster because muscle damage could be simulated by age. As people grow older, more damage in muscles occurs, and whey protein is expected to have a greater effect. This effect is investigated in this experiment with D. melanogaster, where whey protein improves muscle activity in older D. melanogaster. D. melanogaster is a model organism in this experiment. A model organism is an organism which is easy to study because it is cheap, reproduces easily and quickly, and the workings of it can lead us to understand how other organisms work. The War Of World War I Although all countries should be blamed for World War I, Germany did the most to provoke the war to its extremes by attempting to send the Zimmerman Telegram to Mexico, which would result in conflict with the United States of America. In 1917, Germany attempted to send the Zimmerman Telegram to Mexico, which would try to persuade them in joining their side of the war by promising them they would help Mexico take back the territory and states they had lost in the Mexican American War that occurred from 1846 to 1848. Since Mexico had lost around a third of their territory from the Mexican Cession including Texas, New Mexico, and California, where gold was discovered shortly after it was appropriated, the offer from Germany would have been too good to ignore. Nevertheless, British cryptographers had intercepted the secret message before it was able to reach Mexico and showed it to America. The Zimmerman Telegram spurred outraged Americans to join the war against Germany on April 6, 1917 on the Allies side because they were angry that Germany would pull such a deal behind their backs. The boost of America joining the Allies side refreshed the Allies morale to resume their ceaseless warfare and the war became more extreme with the addition of the powerful nation (Lecture, 12/3/14). Some movements are Black Lives Matter and the kneeling during the singing of the national anthem which was started by Colin Kaepernick back in 2016. The Black Lives Matter movement was started because of all the police brutality that we have seen in the media. The kneeling in the national anthem started with Kaepernick because he felt that he had to protest what he deems as wrongdoings against African Americans and minorities in the United States. During interviews he says, I am not going to stand up to show pride in a flag for a country that oppresses black people and people of color, Kaepernick told NFL Media. He provides insight and perspectives of the Indians to describe how the heinous acts of the Europeans were unjustified. He also discusses that the Europeans had a continual motive of exploring during that time which was to increase the power/authority of the Spanish Crown by whatever means necessary, usually leading to violent wars. B. Evidence used: The Europeans main goal revolved around the stability of power of the Spanish Crown. The Spanish Crown was focused on expanding their military so they needed resources such as gold to pay for the constantly increasing military budget. Columbus used this idea to help get resources such as, boats, men, food and weapons from the Spanish Crown. This is important because it describes the desperate need of gold that the Spaniards had which ultimately led to the gruesome acts they committed. Although the Spaniards and English were greeted with hospitality, food, and gifts they still sought war because it was not enough. I highly urge you on behalf of all students operating through this system; change is needed. The current use of homework may be contributing to the decline in the motivation of students; therefore, interfering with their academic potential. Evidently, there has been an abundance of research which shows how homework is detrimental to a teen s self confidence, social skills, overall health, and most importantly their attitude towards school. Why am I directing this straight to the teachers? Teachers have full control over what they hand out and what they demand from students. Teachers also have the authority to practice their style of teaching and alter them accordingly. Every teacher should consider the unhealthy and negative outcomes which come with the homework system. In every student s life, a teacher is another character you will meet who is supposed to guide, motivate, and support you through your journey in life. Teachers are rather more like mentors. However, this concept has escaped for a majority of students because of the pressure and the endless amount of stress which is constantly being stacked on top of each other. In 1964, Yoko Ono challenged both societal convention and the artist/audience relationship in her exhibit Cut Piece, and decades later Kara Walker s Sugar Subtlety, 2014, challenged preconceived notions of racial symbolism and societal convention on a historical level. For both creators, the idea of The Gaze is explored and even featured, a term that addresses the controlling power a dominant group holds through visualization and often through sexuality. However, the ways in which this term is explored are different between the two women. While Ono s work highlights and even proves the Western male domination involved in the idea of The Gaze , fifty years later and a difference in culture sees Kara Walker s work create an artistic and intellectual revolution against the very power the Gaze tries to maintain, turning the concept on its head. Even though H amp;M follows a strategy which differs significantly from Inditex s approach it is the closest competitor from the financial point of view. H amp;M differs from Zara because it outsources all of the production, it is more price oriented and spends more money on advertising. But both companies are based in Europe, are fashion forward at lower price retailers, and have a strong international expansion strategy. One Year Change in Market Value Inditex: 47% H amp;M: 8% Another factor which is interesting to examine is the One Year Change in Market Value. Inditex is on top position compared to all competitors with an impressive growth rate of 47%. H amp;M has the closest result and is the only company besides Inditex whose market value has been growing in 2001. Inditex s efficiency is the result of a more profitable investment strategy. By owning all the stores and manufacturing sites it is able to achieve control over all production processes and costs. The high number of stores may be also traced back to the increasing value of the property because Zara only buys stores in strategic areas (shopping malls, shopping arcades, pedestrian districts etc.) where competition boosts rents. Therefore total assets of Zara increase as well. To sum up from the given information Inditex is more efficient in managing its finances. Its strategy of investing into high quality equipment such as a just in time manufacturing system, a huge warehouse close to its headquarter and an highly advanced communication system has lead to a Return on Investment rate of almost ... A blastocyst can be described as one of the earlier stages of an embryo, which is reached at about four to five days after fertilization. In the blastocyst stage, the future embryo is not formed by more than fifty to a 150 cells. In the blastocyst stage the cell is comprised of an external layer called trophoblast and the inner cell mass comprised of approximately thirty cells which following normal procedures becomes the embryo and the trophoblast, the placenta. In the process to cultivate the stem cell, the blastocyst must die as the inner cell mass is removed. • 44. Racism In Social Work The American Ideal of Looksism is what society says we are supposed to look like, the white Anglo Saxon Protestant ideal (Day Schiele, 2013, p. 14). An example of this is the Barbie doll. She is tall, skinny, white, blonde hair and blue eyed. This is the doll that little girls grow up wanting to look like because society is teaching them that this is the ideal. Otherism is the use of stereotypes to objectify those who are different from us (Day Schiele, 2013, p. 15). If someone does not fit the ideal they are considered not normal or bad. An example of this is objectifying a whole race; by saying the Mexicans are stealing White jobs. While this is untrue, the Mexican heritage is different from the white Anglo Saxon ideals, so some see it as bad and are threatened by it, thus creating this racist stereotype. The practice of social work has evolved from three major movements, The Charity Organizations, Settlement Houses, and Child Saving Movements. Charity organization societies were developed by philanthropists to regulate the use of charitable agencies by the poor (pg. 52). This society was organized to assist the needy, but also to ensure that they only received help from one charity. There is a stigma that people should not be helped too much or they will become reliant on the assistance of the government. Our role as a social worker is to make sure that people are getting as much assistance as they need. Some people have no choice and do have to rely on ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Walker had torn his anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) on that play. The wide receiver suffered a season ending injury while he was leading the league with 123 catches (Marx 17). Overall it is an important ligament in the knee and it is assisted by the muscles surrounding it which helps with stabilization during lower extremity movements. The reality is that sometimes the ACL can t endure certain movements in the knee and the ligament can be torn (School of Physical Therapy at Texas Woman s University). The American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine found that there are about 150,000 cases of ACL tear injuries that occur in the United States each year. These injuries can occur for many reasons, but there are some factors that can put someone more at risk of tearing their ACL. The two different types of risk factors are external and internal. An example of an external factor would be the play in which the athlete injured themselves. An internal factor would be the anatomy of the woman compared to the male (American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine). ACL tears can occur in non contact situations. Cutting and pivoting in certain sports can increase the risk of a tear. About 70 percent of the injuries actually occur in a non contact situation. This can happen because the athlete has put the knee in an at risk position. Robert Marx, the author of the book The ACL Solution: Prevention and Recovery for Sports Most Devastating Knee Injury, explains this at risk positon as the athlete has their leg fairly straight while the foot remains planted on the ground and the knee twisted inward. • 48. Lewis And The Silent Planet Olivia Seeney Dr. Michael Elam ENGL 475 10/4/16 C.S. Lewis and the Influence of Dante in Out of the Silent Planet All throughout Lewis novels there is evidence that clearly connects the themes and symbolism from other aspects of traditional Christian literature both during and before he began writing. One of the most distinct examples of this occurring within Lewis works is the influence that Dante had on the concepts that he reflects on while conveying thoughts to his readers. This is specifically more notable a connection between Dante and Lewis when you examine the parallels that take place within Lewis Out of the Silent Planet and Dante s Inferno. The literary tradition left behind by Dante is both one able to influence the thoughts of others and to teach the value of Christianity through within a fictional environment. This is similar to Lewis Space Trilogy in more ways than one, some of which include Ransom journey in place of the pilgrim as he travels through strange, new, territory in order to reach his goal, and the use of Malacandra to represent the levels of Hell. Each book in the Space Trilogy continues to expand on the possible influence that Dante may have had on Lewis while he wrote these books and aims to show Christians the truth behind the Dante s thoughts through the use of science fiction. Many elements found within Dante s Inferno are reintroduced through new ideas by Lewis within Out of the Silent Planet in order to convey Christian thoughts and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Separate figures from the Bureau of Statistics reveal consumption of pre mixed alcoholic drinks has leapt by 15% in the past year. The figures show that 60% of female drinkers aged between 15 and 17 reported drinking a pre mixed drink, compared to 14% in 2000, suggesting the sweet and fizzy mixes are increasingly introducing young people to alcohol. The foundation survey also underlines the rise of alcohol related violence, with more than a quarter of respondents having been verbally abused by someone under the influence of alcohol, and almost one in 20 having been physically abused by a drunk person. The survey of 23,000 people found the proportion of the general population drinking alcohol daily fell slightly and the number of people abstaining from alcohol climbed from 9.3% to 10.1%. The alcohol industry seized on the survey to suggest that alcohol abuse was not getting worse.
