The target audience for the media product is 14-19 year old teenagers from middle and working class backgrounds. They enjoy listening to R&B artists like Beyoncé, Rihanna, and Drake. To appeal to this audience, the magazine uses images of artists around the same age and features colloquial language that teenagers would understand and relate to, such as naming the magazine "Word" and using phrases like "Owning it". It also promotes the magazine's social media presence, as teenagers are very active online.
2. PROFILE OF MY TARGET AUDIENCE -
The age of my target audience is 14-19 year old teenagers.
The Gender of my target audience is both female and male.
The ethnicity which I am mostly focusing my magazine is white people, however it is open to all
ethnicities.
The lifestyle of my target audience will be teenagers at school and college, they will mostly be doing
coursework while listening to RnB music at home. However on the weekends they will mostly try and
meet up with their friends when they can.
The class of my target audience is middle class/working class, this is so their parents all have a
disposable income which can be spent on magazines. The parents will most likely give my target
audience around £10 a week which can be spent on magazines and downloadable music which they
can listen on their phone.
My target audiences favourite artists will be the current Beyoncé, Rhianna, Drake and old classics such
as Mary J Blidge.
4. WHAT I’VE DONE TO TARGET THAT AUDIENCE.
I’ve firstly only used images of artists which are of the same age to my target audience. This would appeal to
them since they would be able to relate to the artists.
I have named my whole magazine “Word” this can be seen as quite a colloquial word which teenagers today
would use.
Word can be used as …
1) well said
2)said in a agreement
3) can be used as a greeting, hey what’s up?
As I have used this the audience will be able to relate to the magazine which shows the clear target audience.
As only people around teenage years will know what it means they would want to buy the magazine more
since it’s aimed at them and them only.
I used the language “Owning it” I believe this is also a colloquial statement which only young people would
under stand, what this means is that the artist is ‘above it all’ or ‘they’re doing great’. Only teenage people
would understand thus this shows the clear target audience.
I have included the social media such as Facebook and Twitter of my magazine. Teenagers are a generation
who are all over social media, as of this they will want to tweet/facebook about the magazine, this shows the
target audience.
