June 3, 2024 Anti-Semitism Letter Sent to MIT President Kornbluth and MIT Cor...Levi Shapiro
Letter from the Congress of the United States regarding Anti-Semitism sent June 3rd to MIT President Sally Kornbluth, MIT Corp Chair, Mark Gorenberg
Dear Dr. Kornbluth and Mr. Gorenberg,
The US House of Representatives is deeply concerned by ongoing and pervasive acts of antisemitic
harassment and intimidation at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Failing to act decisively to ensure a safe learning environment for all students would be a grave dereliction of your responsibilities as President of MIT and Chair of the MIT Corporation.
This Congress will not stand idly by and allow an environment hostile to Jewish students to persist. The House believes that your institution is in violation of Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, and the inability or
unwillingness to rectify this violation through action requires accountability.
Postsecondary education is a unique opportunity for students to learn and have their ideas and beliefs challenged. However, universities receiving hundreds of millions of federal funds annually have denied
students that opportunity and have been hijacked to become venues for the promotion of terrorism, antisemitic harassment and intimidation, unlawful encampments, and in some cases, assaults and riots.
The House of Representatives will not countenance the use of federal funds to indoctrinate students into hateful, antisemitic, anti-American supporters of terrorism. Investigations into campus antisemitism by the Committee on Education and the Workforce and the Committee on Ways and Means have been expanded into a Congress-wide probe across all relevant jurisdictions to address this national crisis. The undersigned Committees will conduct oversight into the use of federal funds at MIT and its learning environment under authorities granted to each Committee.
• The Committee on Education and the Workforce has been investigating your institution since December 7, 2023. The Committee has broad jurisdiction over postsecondary education, including its compliance with Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, campus safety concerns over disruptions to the learning environment, and the awarding of federal student aid under the Higher Education Act.
• The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is investigating the sources of funding and other support flowing to groups espousing pro-Hamas propaganda and engaged in antisemitic harassment and intimidation of students. The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is the principal oversight committee of the US House of Representatives and has broad authority to investigate “any matter” at “any time” under House Rule X.
• The Committee on Ways and Means has been investigating several universities since November 15, 2023, when the Committee held a hearing entitled From Ivory Towers to Dark Corners: Investigating the Nexus Between Antisemitism, Tax-Exempt Universities, and Terror Financing. The Committee followed the hearing with letters to those institutions on January 10, 202

Q6 Evaluation
1. Task:
Describe/ illustrate the technologies you have used and
explain what they do – Then show me something you’ve
learnt about using them.
Hardware = Equipment
Software = Programs
Images = use screenshots to show what you’ve learned
about using photoshop/InDesign/wordpress etc…
Hyperlinks = link to the relevant manufacturers websites,
product pages.
What technologies were
used for constructing my
product ?
Hardware
Software
Wordpress
InDesign Photoshop
2. What have you learnt about
technologies from the process of
constructing this product?
During the process of constructing my pop music
magazine I have developed variety of skills which
involved looking at different aspects of using
technologies to gather a final magazine.
I had used variety of Hardware and Software
equipment as well as programs to gather my findings.
Yasmin Khalifa
Hardware:
Whilst creating my magazine cover I had used specific
hardware equipment to fulfill my requirements for my
music magazine. Hardware are hand-held objects that
are meant to be touched to be able to use the object.
The Hardware which I had used were the following:
Computer
Keyboard
Mouse
Camera/Studio
Printers
Boards
Chips
Pictures demonstrating
hardware
3. Camera:
For the photoshoot of my magazine product I
used a camera called the Nikon D50 digital SLR.
This was a useful camera as the shots produced
by this camera were of high quality and
developed my digital skills.
I had learnt how to create various shots such as;
mid-shot or full-length shot, by zooming in the
camera. To finalize what I wanted to include in
the shoot I pressed shutter button to lock the
focus of the shot I wanted to take.
The correct lighting was crucial for the photoshoot
as well as getting the modelling at the correct
angel to capture a successful shot.
Hardware I had used…
Computer:
I had used the imac Apple computers to
produce the pop music magazine and to
store information on to the Random Access
Memory (RAM) which is beneficial for the
user to allow them to run operations without
seeing a delay in performance.
4. Apple Keyboard & Mouse:
I have used the apple keyboard and mouse once
before but haven’t had time to be fully comfortable
using them.
I had taken time to get familiar with the ergonomic
shaping of the mouse as there was no right or left
buttons to use. I found out later on that the key
features come at the top of window.
However by using the keyboard I was able to discover
many features and shortcuts which were really handy
such as;
Cmd/- (This was used for zooming out of the screen)
Cmd/+ (This was used for zooming into the screen)
Shift/Cmd/4 (This was used for screenshots)
Cmd/Z (This was used as an ‘undo’ tool)
Cmd/C (This was used for copying)
Cmd/V (This was used for pasting)
Hardware I had used…
USB Memory Stick:
USB Memory sticks are used to transfer
information from one location to another.
I used a memory stick to transfer images and
powerpoint presentation information from one
workplace (Home & school computers) to
another (Apple computers) to initially provide
me good quality amount of time in editing and
producing my product.
5. SD Card:
An SD Card is used to transfer media data from one
hardware (Digital Camera) to another (Apple computers).
I had used an SD Card to transfer the photoshoot images
from the digital camera to the Apple iMac computers. For
this to happen in the first place I had used an SD Card
Reader to transfer the photos from the camera to the
computer.
Hardware moving into
Software…
Software:
A Software is a computer data or set of instructions.
It is anything that can be stored electronically that would be called a Software.
6. Software:
During the production of my product I had
used a variety of software in which some I
was familiar with and some that had to be
started from scratch. This was also an
opportunity where I was able to develop
and learn new skills.
MAC OSX 9 V.10.5.8
I hadn’t used an Apple Mac computer ever
since the first time that I had used the
computer, therefore my skills in using the
software were sketchy.
I had learnt how to find files using Apple
Finder which was very useful as I needed
quick access to the files and needed an
easier method in finding exactly what I was
looking for.
I had also learnt how to drop files on to the
desktop and saving files on to the desktop
too. This was a skill I had picked up on my
own.
Software I had used…
7. Adobe Photoshop CS5 Version 12:
Photoshop was a main part in constructing
my final product in which I had learnt new
skills which I hadn’t learnt before.
I had learnt to do the lasso tool to cut
around an image or a border as well. This
tool works by clicking and dragging around
the image around the area where you want
to keep the image. There would be a
flashing dotted border once you’ve
completed the circuit around the image. I’d
then click layer and in the tool bar and drag
the image to the background as the image
is now separated from the background
itself.
Software I had used…
I had also learnt how to delete, hide and lock layers
which helped me for when I needed to focus on one
thing I’d be able to lock the background to ensure
that I wouldn’t accidentally edit the background.
I could also try to edit each of the color opacity from
100% to 0%.
I could also add more advanced effects to the layer
for example; I could be changing the 2D shape into a
3D dimensional shape. It also allowed me to add
strokes to give a heavy border and change the color
of the strokes too.
I had used various useful tools that helped me create the end
product which I have right now, the range of tools which I have
used in Photoshop are;
The crop tool – to get rid of any unwanted borders and reduce
the size of an image or shape.
The fill tool – to change the background colour to my magazine
from white to red or blue. I also used this tool for when I needed
a transparent overlay.
I mainly used the textbox tool to insert all the headlind,
coverlines, headings, sub-headings, main body text and the
contents of other information.
I had used the free transform tool to let me re-edit the size of an
image or a shape or to manipulate a text to the size I find
satisfying for my magazine.
8. Adobe InDesign CS3 Version 8:
It was my first time in using InDesign so I
had learnt quite a few new skills for when
constructing my product. Indesign was used
as the features that this software had were
more advanced than photoshop.
I used guidelines by dragging them onto the
screen horizontally and vertically. This
helped with guiding me in where I wanted to
place my columns. When I clicked preview,
the guidelines would disappear as it is
temporarily there to help assist the user.
Software I had used…
Black arrow tool – this was used as a select tool, this tool
was used throughout the construction of my article page.
Text tool – this was used to create textboxes in which I’d
insert text into. This helped with managing how I wanted
the text to appear in font, size and alignment.
Box tool - this tool was used for when I used the box tool
as a replacement of an image that would be placed once
the text had been wrapped around the box.
When inserting an image I went box tool.
Then I’d press file and then place. This would
then lead to my documents in which I’d select
a suitable image and then press ‘place’. This
would automatically be inserted into the box
ready to be resized.
Once I had written my article on wordpress I
had copied this and pasted it into Indesign by
clicking ‘type’ which enabled me to edit the
font, colour, and other features to the text
including the size.
9. Wordpress.com:
Wordpress was a main part of my project. I used a blog to post my final product as well as the research pages which helped me to lead
up to my final product.
I have never used wordpress before so it was a learning stage. I learnt how to put additional pages and control which page posts goes
under which categoric post.
I learnt how to edit the layout and the style of the posts as well.
WORDPRESS.COM
10. Powerpoint:
I have used powerpoint more than once as powerpoint is a good visual approach to presenting documents. This is the reason why I
have decided to use powerpoint as a form of presentation to present an evaluation visually.
POWERPOINT
