technologies from the process of
constructing this product?

2. I have learnt about a range of technologies while
constructing my music magazines from
hardware to softwares.

3. Hardware
While creating my music
magazine, I have used
specific hardware.
Hardware are objects that
you are able to touch in
real life such as
keyboards, mouse,
speakers, disks, monitors,
webcams.

4. Computer
To create my magazine, I have used an iMac Apple
processor that makes calculations. It has 2GHz which
makes speed as well having two processors. As I do not
own an iMac and have not really used one, it took some
time for me to adapt to its features. The iMac itself has a
built-in 20-inch glossy widescreen TFT active-matrix liquid
display with its resolution being 1680 by 1050 pixels. It
also includes a built-in iSight camera. Although, the
network may be rather slow at times, the computer uses
Random Access memory (RAM) which allows the
computer to go on with its operations without failing
which makes it faster.
Camera
To take the pictures of my main cover artist on
the music magazine, I have used the camera
Nikon AF-S Nikkor 18-55mm. By using this
camera, I have also learnt how to lock in the
focus by using the shutter, also zoom in and
out and how to successfully create a good
photograph.

5. Horseshow Flash Trigger
The speed set on the horseshow flash trigger is
1/300th sec to match strobe speeds. The
horseshow flash trigger causes the flash from the
strobe flash to be in-sync with the camera shutter.
The happens due to the infra red signal sent to
the Strobe flash.
Strobe Flash:
The Strobe that has been used for the photoshoot is the
Hemisphere 300 Strobe flash. The lighting given out by
the flash can be adjusted at the back. The auxiliary lights
are set to trigger in sync with the built in light sensor.
Soft Boxes
To give a more softer, rounder light on the
model for my music magazine, the use of
soft boxes are needed. This controls and
ensures that the model does not get
washed away and a moderate amount of
light is used.

6. Backdrop
I have used a backdrop that is lit with two
strobes on full power to create high exposure,
white and black background. For the first
photoshoot, the model’s photographs for the
magazine were taken on a white background
and the second time, the model’s photoshoot
was taken on a black background.
SD Card
In order to transfer my photos on to the
computer, the use of a SD card was needed.
However, to get the images from the SD
card onto the computer, I used an SD card
reader.

7. Software
As well as using a variety of hardware, I have also
used a variety of software from the iMacs.
Software are any computer instructions, data,
applications and/or anything that can be stored
electronically on the computer.

8. Adobe Photoshop CS5 Version 12
In order to create the graphics for the cover, contents and double page article, I used photoshop
from which I have gained a range of skills.
One of the main new skill that I have learnt on photoshop is the magnetic lasso
tool. I have used this to cut out an image of the main cover artist from the
photoshoot accurately and quickly. I would click around the artist, the tool
would also find the nearest edge of the artist and stick to it with dotted lines
and once completed, the dotted lines would flash around the edge. The next
step was to go to “layer” on the tool bar, then click “new” then “ layer” and
“layer via copy”. This would cut out the image and separate it from the
background. Lastly, I would drag the cut out image to the document of my
actual magazine.

add layers as well
as deleting them.
• I also learnt how to
add a style/effect
to the layer. For
example, a stroke.

10. While using photoshop to create my magazine, I used a range of
tools.
I had used this mouse tool to navigate/move my layers around and
place them where I wanted to.
I also used the rubber tool when editing some of the photoshoot
images.
I also had used the fill tool to add/change the colour of the
background.
One of the tools I used mainly was the text tool as it was required
throughout the whole magazine.
I also used the shape tool to create boxes for certain images/text
to add more graphics to my magazine.
I also used the magnifying tool to zoom in and out to view the
pages and have a change of perspective.

11. While creating my music
magazine, one of the main
tools that I have used is the
free transform tool to edit
and change the size of the
shape of the image, text
and other objects.

12. Adobe In Design CS3
To create the article page of my
music magazine, I had to use
InDesign which I have never
used before. This software was
easier to add text therefore it
was more appropriate to use
for the double page spread.

13. This is one of the main tools that I had used to while
creating my article. This allows to select and move objects.
I also used the text tool to draw the text box before
adding in the text of my article. Initially I filled the space
with ‘placeholder’ while working on the images around
and the copied and pasted my article into it.
I also used this tool to draw a box to add another image
into it.
There is also a magnifying tool, like in photoshop, that I
used to zoom in and out to look at the page from different
views.

14. To add an image to my article place, I
firstly drew a box with the box drawing
tool on the left. Then I would click on
‘file’ then ‘place’. I would then select the
image that I would like to use insert it
into my page.
However, if the image would come out
too big or too small of the size of the
box, I would go onto ‘object’, ‘fitting’,
and ‘fit content to frame’ which would
make the picture fit into to size of the
box.

15. I had written my article on a
word document which I then
copied and pasted it into the
article page on InDesign.
After doing so, by going to to
‘type’, I am able to edit the
size, colour, font and so on. I
also split my article into three
columns.

16. Wordpress
The main software that I have used to present my music magazine is
wordpress. I had created a wordpress account where I have
uploaded my final product and posted all the research that I had
done while constructing my magazine. I also learnt how to add
pages, edit my blog style and style.

17. Powerpoint
• I have also used and created many Powerpoints for my evaluation
however, I did not learn any new skills as I have already used Powerpoint
before.
