2. Hardware
 Apple Mac, keyboard and mouse
 I had never used an Apple Mac before, so I learnt many
new things when using it, for example, when taking a
screenshot, you use shift, command and 4
 I also learnt that to save an image from Safari or Chrome,
you drag the image onto your desktop
 Another different thing from the Windows computers I
usually use is that you use the command key instead of
control

3.  Camera – Nikon D3100
 Lens – Nikon AF-S Nikkor 18-55mm
 I had used a camera and lens similar to these before so already
knew how to use them
 Horseshoe Flash Trigger
 This sends a signal from the camera to the flash so that the
camera shutter and flash go off at the same time
 Flash – Hemisphere 300
 Soft Boxes
 This makes the light softer so that it isn’t as harsh on the subject of
the photo
 White backdrop
 The backdrop is lit by two strobes on full power to give a bright
white background
 I had never used equipment like this before so had to learn how to
set it up to get the correct lighting and create any shadows I
wanted

4. Software
 Adobe Photoshop
 Photoshop is used to create and edit images
 I had never used Photoshop before so had to learn how to
use the program in order to create my magazine
 The magnetic lasso tool allows you to crop out specific things
from a photograph, and makes it easier to crop as it snaps
around the outline as you move the mouse around what you
want to crop out
 A lot of the tools I needed to design my magazine were on
the tool bar, which is on the left when you open Photoshop,
the text tool, move tool, crop tool and paint tool can be found
on it, along with other useful tools

5.  Adobe InDesign
 InDesign is a computer program used to edit images and
text, and is used to create posters, leaflets and
magazines
 This was another program I hadn’t used before and had
to learn how to use so that I could create the article for
my magazine
 I only used a few tools in InDesign as I had created the
content in Photoshop and used InDesign to arrange the
text and images
 I used the text tool to create a text box, then copied in the
article that I had written on Word, I then used the second
tool to format the article into columns
 I used the move tool to position the text on the right page
and the photograph on the left page

6.  Wordpress
 Wordpress is a website that can be used to create your
own blog
 I had created a personal blog with Wordpress before so
knew how to use the site
 This is main tool I have used on the website, as when you
click this, it takes you to a page where you can create a
new draft for a blog post
 To add images to my blog posts, I had to click on the plus
button, then ‘Add Media’ and insert the image from my
computer

7.  Microsoft Powerpoint
 Powerpoint is a program used to create slideshows of text
and images
 I had used Powerpoint many times before so could easily
use it to create powerpoints for my evaluation questions
 One new thing I learnt was that I didn’t have to go to
‘Insert’ then ‘Picture from File’ every time I wanted to add
an image, I could just drag the image from my desktop
into Powerpoint
