De Beauvoir s “Woman as Other”
Woman as Other
De Beauvoir s Woman as Other lays out an elaborate argument on gender inequality; using the term
other to establish woman s alternate, lesser important role throughout her work, the author dissects and
examines from its origin the female s secondary position in society in contrast to man. Indeed, from
the beginning of recorded history, the duality of man, by definition, positions woman at the opposing
end of the spectrum in relation to her male counterpart. Even by today s modern and accepting
standards, the female suffers under the brand of being the sub standard half of the duality equation;
compared to her male opponent, women are paid lower wages, have fewer and limited expression of
rights, achieve lower ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Consequently, this has potential implications for the investment on the next generation; if parents view
daughters as less likely to earn market wages or take paid work, they may be less inclined to invest in
their education, which is woman s fastest route out of poverty. Also, in a job market dominated by
men who monopolize the most important positions, the male faction generally retains the
opportunities for success, for advancement or for higher wages. In fact, a recent class action lawsuit
filed on behalf of 1.6 million women employed by Wal Mart stores alleges the retailer s sexual
discrimination has led to women losing out on pay, promotions and other advances; women are paid
less than men in every department of the store. According to the study named in the lawsuit, two thirds
of Wal Mart s employees are female and less than one third of its managers are female Until recently,
social development, by design has guaranteed women limited growth in the employment ranks by the
standard curriculum path recommended for the female gender; typical high school and junior colleges
required home economics and other domestic related courses to be completed by female students.
Thus, the woman high school or junior college graduate enters the world without adequate training to
compete in the business world beyond basic trade or blue collar worker positions. Finally, a

Character Analysis Of Torvald In The Ibsen
Torvald and Nora Helmer s marriage was a very deceptive one. Torvald treated Nora as if she were a
child or favorite puppy according to a review by David Galens and Lynn Spampinato. Nora does
everything Torvald says and is always on her best behavior for him. She is, at the start of the play,
entirely dependent on Torvald. Nora lies and hides her truths from Torvald. She lies about the
macaroons, her jobs, and her sources of income after taking out a loan in her father s name. Nora is a
very strong and independent lady who does not actually need Torvald for anything, but she deceives
herself into thinking so until the end of the play (Galens and Spampinato).

Torvald s treatment however did Nora no justice, in fact, it is implied at the end of the play that their
marriage and her treatment was more fitting of an arranged marriage: ...I was simply transferred from
papa s hands into yours. You arranged everything according to your own taste...You and papa have
committed a great sin against me (Ibsen 1531). The reason is it such a sin indeed is because not only
does she act this way herself, but she treats her own children similarly.
Nora has fooled herself into believing that everything she does is aimed towards being the best wife to
Torvald. She is only concerned with being the perfect wife according to a review by David M. Galens
and Lynn M. Spampinato. However, what makes Nora s behavior even more disturbing is that she is
aware of what tricks are necessary to get what she wants which is demonstrated in the opening scene
of the play discussed above. The money she hustles from Torvald is used for her to shop and to help
pay back the loan she took out several years back.
Seven years prior, while on a trip to Italy, Tovald became gravely ill and was not expected to survive.
Nora, out of love for her husband, went to a money lender named Krogstad and borrowed 250 pounds
to stay in Italy long enough to save

Leonardo Da Vinci And The Last Renaissance
Art is never static. It evolves and exists within context. The growing body of scientific knowledge
provided inspiration for the artists who interpreted events occurring around them in different ways.
Inevitably, it was used to enrich their art.
The Renaissance.
Curious as to how the human body functioned, Leonardo Da Vinci dissected corpses from which he
made numerous anatomical drawings. He was interested in how the tissues, veins and nerves were
connected, and he even conducted an experiment to determine how the muscles in the heart worked.
He understood anatomy, and from his detailed sketches of human muscle in the face, arms and legs, it
is no wonder his version of The Last Supper in 1482 is the only one that depicts the disciples as
people, displaying real emotions, possibly because he used his knowledge of facial muscles to create
expressions and reactions that were recognizable. A man with expertise in many fields , (2017, Khan

The figures look real and are proportional but I believe that it is the central figure lifting Christ on the
cross that draws the most attention. He is strong and it is clear that he has put everything he has into
lifting Christ on the cross. His shoulders and back says it all as his highly defined body strains at the
job at hand. Even his legs (calves) do their share of lifting as his muscles stand out under the pressure.
The knowledge applied here creates movement; the diagonals in this painting make it so realistic and

Most Common Illegal Drugs in the United States Essay
Marijuana is a drug formed by drying out the shredded flowers, stems, and leaves of the Indian hemp
plant. It is also the most common illegal drug used in the United States, and the second most used drug
in the world, behind alcohol. According to one national survey, approximately 6,000 Americans try
marijuana for the first time every day. Marijuana has been proven to positively affect some illnesses,
and the Medical Legalization Movement has made great progress in the US (randomhistory.com 2007
2014). However, should the drug be approved for recreational purposes? Several significant reasons
lead me to believe it should be. One major reason is the income. California, where marijuana is legal
for medical use, finds the substance to be ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Growing a plant like this on public grounds may be unsafe for the surrounding ecosystem as well as
hikers or visitors to the park. Legalizing the drug would get rid of any motives to cultivate such illicit
farms. This would effectively save millions in efforts to rid of these plants and environmental clean up
costs (www.mpp.org). California s taxpayer s are also shelling out for law enforcement officers to
chase down and arrest marijuana consumers. According to FBI statistics, California arrested 74,119
people on marijuana charges in 2007 nearly 80 percent of those were for simple possession
(www.mpp.org). In 2010, over 52 percent of all drug arrests in California were marijuana related,
which is the highest it s been since 1995. Despite all the efforts by law enforcement officers and the
exponential sum of money paid by taxpayers, chasing down people for using this plant costs us real
money and isn t proving an effective strategy for curbing its use (F. Aaron Smith, California policy
director for the Marijuana Policy Project, 2013). The closing statements in the previous paragraph lead
to the next senior reason for marijuana s regulation: the marijuana related crime. Marijuana s share in
the percentage of total drug arrests in California hit a high in 2010, reaching 52.1 percent. While it has
ever so slightly fallen in the years following, it is still a substantial statistic; more than half of all drug
arrests. Legalizing marijuana

Cvs Pharmacy Case Analysis
CVS Pharmacy is a major pharmacy retailer focusing on selling over the counter and prescription
drugs, beauty, personal care, and other general consumer goods. In September 2014, CVS decided to
stop selling cigarette and tobacco products in all of its pharmacy stores. The purpose is to promote its
consistent brand image as a healthcare and medical care brand for the community and business.
Health is everything 1 is what CVS believes in. Being a pharmacy company under control of CVS
Health Corporation, CVS realized that it is better for the company to take the path where the brand
activities and its vision are moving toward the same direction. This belief had urged CVS to stop its
distribution of cigarette. This action marked CVS as the first ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

The idea is brilliant, but the execution is not very well planning. For instance, I am a non smoker and a
regular customer at CVS, but I did not notice that CVS stopped selling cigarette for a while. Similarly,
for CVS smoker customers, they could have got confused because all of a sudden, their stores stopped
selling tobacco products. For many of them, going to a different convenience stores to grab a pack of
cigarette is easier than quit smoking. Some of them might even feel discriminated even though the
decision benefits themselves. Furthermore, for the customers, who consider convenience is their
priority, will not want to go to CVS to buy personal care products and go to other stores to buy
cigarette. They might choose CVS s competitors such as Walgreens over CVS for the convenience. In
fact, consumers do not really like it when brand tries to interfere their behaviors even for good cause.
Therefore, the intent of the brand is clear, but the communication was not handled very well. The
brand action is not effective in term of connecting the brand with its customers regard of the good
impact that CVS want to make for its consumers. CVS has pushed many of its consumers to the hands

Jay Gatsby is a Sympathetic Character in Fitzgerald s...
In F. Scott Fitzgerald s The Great Gatsby, Jay Gatsby provides the reader with a unique outlook on the
life of the newly rich. Gatsby is an enigma and a subject of great curiosity, furthermore, he is content
with a lot in life until he strives too hard. His obsession with wealth, his lonely life and his delusion
allow the reader to sympathize with him. Initially, Gatsby stirs up sympathetic feelings because of his
obsession with wealth. Ever since meeting Dan Cody, his fascination for wealth has increased
dramatically. He even uses illegal unmoral methods to obtain hefty amounts of wealth to spend on
buying a house with Marie Antoinette music rooms, Restoration Salons, dressing rooms and
poolrooms, and bath rooms with sunken baths. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Ultimately, it is his obsession with wealth that leads to his tragic end. Secondly, the reason of the
readers sympathy is Gatsby s loneliness. Gatsby is perpetually enveloped by solitude. Despite the
Hotel de Ville (11)mansion, the car and the luxuries that would overwhelm most people, Jay finds no
sense of belonging amongst those objects. Gatsby, standing alone on the marble steps and looking
from one group to another (51) does not mingle with his guests. Even at his own party, surrounded by
glamour and people, he is still alone. In fact, he is a stranger. Only handful of his guest knows what he
actually looks like, to others, he is a mystery. Equally important, Gatsby enclose himself in isolation,
he [gives] a sudden intimation that he [is] content to be alone... he [is] trembling. (25) He has a whole
mansion to himself yet he chooses to stand outside and ponder. Perhaps he is trying to find a way to
unlock himself from the life of solitude.
Finally, Jay Gatsby s delusions draws more pity for him. Daisy comes from a rich family and chances
of her ending up with Gatsby, a poor soldier, is totally unrealistic. Furthermore Gatsby wants Daisy to
go to Tom and say: I never loved you (105) but Daisy asserts that [she] can t say [she] never loved
Tom...It wouldn t be true. (126) Jay cannot grasp the present reality that Daisy could not leave Tom
permanently, especially when the fruit of their love is already three years of age.

How Does Shakespeare Create Identity In Macbeth
Someone can only be two faced for so long before the authenticity of ones true self overcomes the
disguise. Macbeth attempted to hide a part of himself in the play only to be revealed at the end.
Throughout Macbeth Shakespeare used the motifs of blood, titles, and masks to gradually reveal
Macbeth s true desires.
At the beginning of the play Macbeth is a respected warrior, loved by his country. Shakespeare uses
the motif of blood throughout the play, but in Act 1 the only bloodshed is from the thane of Cawdor,
enemy of Scotland. He was unseamed from the naves to the chops by Macbeth, which was seen as an
act of valor. Macbeth s murderous heart is only disguised by the blood of battle, so people are unable
to see beyond the warrior he is. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Macbeth questions himself Will all great Neptune s ocean wash this blood / clean from my hand?
which shows his remorse for the person he has become, or been this whole time. At this point Macbeth
is still fighting to find his identity between his two faces, as shown by the contrast in his actions and
his remorse for them. This aids the gradual reveal in his true identity with the use of blood rather than
just stating the change. By now those who are suspicious of Macbeth are beginning to catch on to the
other side of him, and they begin to refer to him as black Macbeth, or devilish Macbeth. This is an
obvious change from the royal and respectful titles at the beginning of the play and the reader can see
the change not only in Macbeth, but what some people have begun to see in him. Lady Macbeth also
tries to hide what her husband has done, using their nightgowns to mask their deeds of that night:
killing Duncan. She says to Macbeth, get on your nightgown, lest occasion call us / And show us no
be watchers, telling him to hide under a new set of clothes and the illusion that they ve been asleep.
Macbeth has committed murder, yet we still do not see his truest desires because it is being masked.
The middle of the play is comparable to a half mood; the reader is able to see Macbeth s dark heart,

Culture Bound Syndrome
Windigo Culture Bound Syndrome (CBS) is defined by the DSM IV as recurrent, locally specific
patterns of deviant behavior and troubling experience that may or may not be linked to a particular
DSM IV diagnostic category. Such patterns of behavior are indigenously considered to be an illness or
at least an affliction, and most have names specific to the region or culture in which they originate.
Many CBSs are not literally syndromes; they are more like ways of explaining any of a wide array of
misfortunes. In the following pages I will attempt to explain the CBS known as windigo. Over the
course of the following pages I will attempt to describe the various types of windigo stemming from
the folklore of the cannibalistic spirit. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Throughout history, there have been tales of windigo occurrences. In the oldest known English poem,
Beowulf, it is recalled that around 550 to 950 A.D a windigo like creature, Grendel, would attack the
great hall of the king of Danes during the night to seize men and carry them to his lair and eat them.
According to the poem this happened for 12 years, and the only survivors were those who were able to
flee the area where the creature would capture his victims. The creature s wrath continued until the
new king of the Geats, Beowulf, along with the help of a dozen of his greatest warriors, laid a trap for
the creature. During the battle, which ensued once the creature came to the hall to feed that night,
Beowulf ripped off Grendel s arm, leaving it fatally wounded and dying. Once Beowulf had slain
Grendel, he continued to he creatures underwater lair to kill Grendel s mother and stop the
cannibalistic wrath caused by these beasts. President Theodore Roosevelt told a more modern tale of a
windigo creature. In his book, Wilderness Hunter, he recalled a tale that was told to him by an old
mountain hunter, named Bauman. The hunter told a tale of how his friend was killed by a half man
half –beast creature during a hunting trip. Bauman believed that the creature that killed his friend was

Fast Foods And Healthy Foods
Fast Foods Verses Healthy Foods Healthy foods are considered in the definition of Segen s Medical
Dictionary (2012) as any food believed to be good for you . Fast foods are considered in the definition
of Merriam Webster Dictionary (2015), as relating to, or specializing in food that can be prepared and
served quickly at a fast food restaurant that is designed for ready availability, use, or consumption and
with little consideration given to quality or significance. Problem Statement The purpose of this
research paper is to supply information concerning the functions fast foods and healthy foods has in
the environment in relation to our bodies. The function of foods in daily life continues to be a
stumbling block to the body performance that often increases stress levels and influences the body s
ability to function properly (Malhi, 2010). The relationship between body image, stress, behavior, and
student performance appear to be rare in literature, school handbooks and resources that is readily
available leaving a gap in research. The complex nature of the body when there are levels of increased
fast foods, creates considerable challenges for the body, (Dellve Wikström, 2009), with individual who
have diets high in fast foods being subject to greater health risks (Wolever, et al., 2012). By addressing
how fast food influences body functions in relation to healthy cooked foods and the relationship both

The Changing Roles and Experiences of Probation Officers
Introduction
According to the Bureau of Justice Statistics, there were over 4 million adults on probation in the
United States in 2010. Today more and more agencies have shifted from simply monitoring an
offender s compliance to using evidenced based practices to reduce recidivism rates. The intense
involvement with offenders caused by this shift exposes officers to many new stressors that previously
did not exist. A recent study by Kirsten R. Lewis, M.Ed., Ladonna S. Lewis, Ph.D., and Tina M.
Garby, Psy.D., examined whether specific caseload events are associated with stress and burnout
among this career specialty using various survey instruments. The results confirmed 2 of their
hypothesis that officers who reported violent and sexual recidivism on their caseloads, offender
suicide, and threats and/or assaults in the line of duty scored significantly higher on measures of
traumatic stress and burnout... Length of service was also a contributing factor. The authors report of
job stress on probation officers is applicable to any human service professional and especially
supervisors, managers and administrators who have the capacity to make meaningful change by
creating training programs and establishing ways to deal with the negative caseload events. The small
study sample limited reliability of the results and more data is needed to assess the overall problem.

Eighteenth Century English Literature
Chapter III: Eighteenth Century English Literature
LITERATURE OF THE ENLIGHTENMENT
(18th century)
The 17th century was one of the most stormy periods of English history. The growing contradictions
between the new class, the bourgeoisie, and the old forces of feudalism brought about the English
Bourgeois Revolution in the 1640s. As a result of the revolution the king was dethroned and beheaded
and England was proclaimed a republic. Though very soon monarchy was restored, the position of the
bourgeoisie had changed.
The 18th century saw Great Britain rapidly growing into a capitalist country. It was an age of intensive
industrial development. New mills and manufactures appeared one after another. Small towns grew

Such composition of the novel gave the author a chance to create an all embracing picture of the 18th
century England, to write a comic epopee as Fielding himself called the novel.
Fielding also worked out the theory of the novel. In the introductory chapters to the eighteen parts of
The History of Tom Jones he put forward the main requirements that the novel should meet: to imitate
life, to show the variety of human nature, to expose the roots and causes of man s shortcomings and to
indicate the ways of overcoming them.
3. Late Enlightenment (Sentimentalism) (1750 1780).
The writers of this period, like the Enlighteners of the first two periods, expressed the democratic
bourgeois tendencies of their time. They also tried to find a way out of the difficulties of the existing
order. However, while their predecessors believed in the force of intellect, they considered feelings (or
sentiments) most important. The principal representatives of sentimentalism in the genre of the novel
were Oliver Goldsmith (The Vicar of Wakefield) and Lawrence Sterne (Tristram Shandy, The
Sentimental Journey) and in drama Richard Sheridan (School for Scandal and other plays).

Employees Should Be Submitted For Permanent Layoff
In this particular group project, we need to come up with a proposal and a decision on which two
employees should be submitted for permanent layoff. It was painful decision who should go. As these
approaches are painful to staff involved. Not only workers are laid off, but layers of management can
be collapsed, resulting in new management structures. We must be careful with the decisions of
layoffs, as it could lead to poor morale. Total of five employees have been assigned for our group
proposal, and each employee has been given brief information about their background. As our group
discussion took part, we all started to do our self evaluations about each employee using his/her
background information. As we have decided all will be examined based on their performances. After
the meeting it is imperative that decision reached on the persons to be laid off must be in writing and

A Poetical Analysis of Queen¡¯s Bohemian Rhapsody
This paper looks at Queen¡¯s Bohemian Rhapsody from a poetic perspective. Bohemian Rhapsody
was written in 1975 by the British rock band Queen, whose lead singer Freddie Mercury died in 1991
from AIDS. The song is one of the world¡¯s most popular all time songs. It is an epic work that
belongs to the musical genre ¡®Rock Opera¡¯. The song is part of the band¡¯s Night at the Opera

anyone can see till the end shows an almost textbook example of this. Note the difference between
ritardando and rubato. The latter is a whole branch of musicology and studies the way a performer
should increase or decrease the tempo in certain moments from a musical work. For instance, Chopin
s pieces usually require such approach although he never put down in writing where he wanted to
hurry up and where he wanted to slow down. That s why rubato is one of the most sophisticated
techniques in music and demands a quite considerable musical sense and talent.
In ¡°Bohemian Rhapsody¡± certain chord progressions are used frequently. The heavy and looped use
of such chord progressions often results in a very predictable song. For certain listeners this is good,
and it even helps them to memorize the piece. For many others, though, the clich¨¦ based songs get
boring very quickly, especially if the melody is also predictable. Queen use a very limited and tasteful
use of clich¨¦s, a very nice example of this is Bohemian Rhapsody and the clich¨¦s in the verses.
The tone and mood of Bohemian Rhapsody varies throughout the song. It begins with a slow and
pitiful chorus that only murmuringly hints of the possible explosion later. Mercury¡¯s first verse

this verse but also throughout the song. Despite the addition of various

Another core element in the liberal vision in economic interdependence, as shown by Scott Burchill:
with the existence of free markets and the possibility of free trade and its potential to create national
wealth, states would expand their range of contacts and levels of understanding, encouraging
international friendship and breaking down the divisions between states, uniting them ₉. Meaning that
trade creates mutual dependence between states which fosters understanding and finally reduces
conflict.
The Democratic peace thesis, whose basic concepts were studied by Kant in the 1700s, is the theory
that suggests that democracies have been pacific in their relations with one other and are unlikely to
go to war with another democracy. Democracies rarely fight each other (an empirical statement)
because (b) they have other means of resolving conflicts between them and therefore do not need to
fight each other (a prudential statement),and (c) they perceive that democracies should not fight each
other (a normative statement about principles of right behavior), which reinforces the empirical
state¬ment. By this reasoning the more democracies there are in the world, the fewer potential
adversaries we and other democracies will have and the wider the zone of peace. russet

Wheelchair Rugby And Its Impact On Sports
This case study will to examine wheelchair rugby, and how Great Britain Wheelchair Rugby Limited
organises play, qualifications, the specialist equipment used in the sport, as well as the development of
the sport with in the UK. This is due to the author s ability to rugby and interest in how rugby has been
developed into a disability sport.
Wheelchair rugby, formally known as Murderball, was developed in Canada in 1977 by quadriplegic
athletes (International Wheelchair Rugby Federation, 2014). Quadriplegia is more commonly known
as tetraplegia, this is where all four limbs are paralysed and most commonly as a result of a neck
injury (Disabled World, 2010) Wheelchair Rugby was created as an adaptation of wheelchair
basketball, by reducing the amount of hand and arm actions to make the game inclusive for
quadriplegic athletes; this was done by removing dribbling. Athletes were classified on their medical
diagnosis, in relation to the level of their spinal injury. In 1991 this was changed to a functional
classification specific to wheelchair rugby, in order to include those with polio, cerebral palsy,
muscular dystrophy, multiple sclerosis and amputations. According to Sport England (2010) 68% of
wheelchair rugby participants have a spinal cord injury, compared 6% with cerebral palsy and 4%
with muscular dystrophy. It s also estimated that 40,000 people are living with a spinal cord injury in
the UK (The Backup Trust, 2014). Rugby is one of 11 out of the 23 Paralympic sports

The Appointment By Aphra Behn
Aphra Behn s The Disappointment addresses three main conflicts regarding gender, power and
sexuality. Behn challenges the traditional gender roles accepted by the British society during the 17th
century; that men are always in a position of power, by making Cloris, her female character dominant
over the male character Lysander and giving her the authority. Behn further challenges the position of
men in being the dominant gender in the sexual sphere and discusses masculine identity and how it is
measured by the ability of men to successfully perform and satisfy women s sexual desires, and how
women take charge and be in control when men s perform poorly.
The poem begins with two lovers who are about to make love, and from the very beginning ... Show

Here, Cloris pulls her lover to her body and the poet uses the verb permits which implies that she is in
power to choose whether she wants to give Lysander her virginity or not and that she s not being
forced to do anything without her own desire. Behn expands the conflicts of gender dominance and
sexuality in the rest of the poem. The traditional gender roles are being overthrown when Lysander is
incapable of pleasing Cloris. Here, Behn is addressing the women dominance over men. Lysander s
masculinity is being questioned and, for this reason, he is feeling ashamed. In addition, Behn is using
religious language to support her claims But oh what envious gods conspire/ To snatch his power, yet
leave him the desire! (79,80). Here Behn is referring to Cloris as god and Lysander isn t satisfying her
sexual desires. The fact that his sexual performance is not fulfilling his lover s needs, Cloris is able to
take away her lover s power and make him feel insecure. In the next stanzas Lysander s impotence is
shown as the reason behind Cloris s empowerment and the purpose of Lysander s feelings of rage and
shame Now all the brisk and active fire / that should

A small, quaint beach is located in Texas, and is known by the name of Galveston. It has a very vivid
and interesting backstory, more so than cities twenty times its size. Galveston Beach was originally

Galveston was named for Bernardo de Galvez; he was a Spanish general and governor of colonies,

Long shore currents continuously transport sand south along the coast. Harsh winter weather pulls
sand from dunes and upper beaches, depositing it onto offshore sand bars and reducing beach width,
while gentler wave action during milder summer weather acts to restore the shoreline (NOAA, 2013.)
The structure of barrier islands is determined by the movement of sand in the littoral zone, which is
the land facing side of the island. In August of the year 1933, a hurricane created an inlet south of
Ocean City, Maryland. The inlet separated the island from Maryland (U.S. National Parks Service,
2012.) After the hurricane, a permanent system of artificial jetties was built for navigation purposes,
and has drifted westward considerably from the original landmass; without the jettisons, it would have
silted back because of longshore drift which is a geographical process that consists of the
transportation of sediments, such as clay, silt, sand, and shingle along a coast at an angle to the
shoreline, which depends on prevailing wind direction, amongst other factors, This process occurs in
the littoral zone, and is on in or close to the surf zone. The artificial jettisons has created wider

Through The Wexner Center to Analysis Deconstructionism
1. Deconstructionism
Deconstructionism developed in late 1980s by postmodern architecture. The core theory is
deconstruction that eliminates construction then forms it together in different way. The first time of

Humanities Human Figure in Art Work Essay
Humanism vs. Realism with Focus of Human Figure Artwork

Throughout history the human figure has been demonstrated in Middle Eastern, Egyptian and Greek
sculptures and paintings. Most of these artifacts tend to focus more on humanism than realism due to
Rulers and Gods, geographical areas, resources and events thus, giving them the idea for the theme of
the art they create. These are the reasons that might explain their commonalities or differences in the
representation of the human figure.
For example, during one of our earliest cultures, the Paleolithic period, the Women of Willendorf

Analysis Of Marjorie Prime
Production Response B: Marjorie Prime
1. The main question Marjorie Prime opens for the audience is, what can technology do for the human
experience? The answer to this question is tricky, but I think it was covered well throughout the play
by focusing on the idea of, what would you say to a person you loved if they were still here? First, the
definition of the human experience is all of the emotions and events someone will experience
throughout their lifetime; examples fitting for this play are grieving and death. The first moment from
Marjorie Prime where I felt the meaning was the first time we see Walter Prime. Walter Prime is clean
cut and smooth in his dark blue suit and oxford shoes. He could pass for human, but his voice is eerily
like that of a male Siri on iPhones. The whole idea of getting a prime for Marjorie was so that when
her memory is totally gone from her mind, it will still be in the mind of the prime, and then he can
feed her back her memories. The prime is in the form of Marjorie s husband, Walter, when he was in
his thirties. Both of these elements of the prime give Marjorie back some companionship other than
her daughter, Tess, and Tess s husband, John. We learn later on in the play that Marjorie lost her son,
Damien, to suicide. The prime is able to help Marjorie s human experience by not relaying the painful
memories of him back to her. He in turn indirectly takes away her grief because other people can add
or delete Marjorie s

The purpose of this experiment is to obtain isolation of individual species of particles from the mixed

experiment is to replicate the technique of streak plate but on a much larger scale. Because it is on a
larger scale the particles are able to be visually observed as they are isolated using the streaking
technique as the experiment is conducted. The benefits of the streaking technique is when a cultures

The particles were even more narrowed down in this final streak allowing for further separation of
each individual particle. The streaking utensil was cleaned using the particle remover and returned to
the utensil storage area. And the other items collected for this lab were cleaned and returned to their
storage areas.
Results
The particles that were collected for the lab were very concentrated prior to being mixed into the
medium. Once the particles where mixed into the medium they was a decreased in their concentration
as the medium allowed for separation by filling the spaces between them. Once the first streak was
made it was slightly less concentrated and this allowed for the particles to be spread out over the
surface. The concentration of particles that were spread with each streak continued to decrease. In the
final streak, as seen in picture 7, the particles were separated almost to the point of being able to
individually identify each color of particle. Much as the same results that you might see with a mixed
culture that was completed in a lab and final results reviewed under a microscope.
Discussion
The conclusion that was made from this experiment was that as the streaking is completed the
consistency as well as the concentration degrees allowing for a more accurate identification of the
individual particles. The results lead me to this conclusion because as the streaks were completed the

The Martillion
The Silmarillion is an epic high fantasy novel written by the English author J.R.R Tolkien, but
published by his son, Christopher Tolkien. Written in order to provide some historical background to
Tolkien s previous novels, The Silmarillion has transcended that quality, and went on to rival both the
hobbit and even The Lord of the Rings in terms of storytelling. It is considerably longer than The
Hobbit but shorter than LOTR. It tells of the primary happenings of the First Age, contrary to LOTR
and the hobbit, set in the Third Age. This time, Sauron was just a lieutenant of Melkor, an even worse
and powerful villain, the source of evil on Earth.
Ever since it became available in 1977, The Silmarillion was a stunning story. The adventures of

history complete its story in a wonderful and satisfying way.
Is this the best fantasy book ever written? In my opinion, almost. It is bettered only by LOTR by a

In conclusion, this book is spectacular. It belongs with LOTR in the bookshelf of classics. Tolkien s
literary genius and the brilliant editing of Christopher Tolkien has carried this book a long way,

Introduction
We know that light is an important part of both terrestrial and aquatic ecosystems. In a forest system
both the canopy and the understory absorb light. The type of forest and leaf cover present determines
the amount of light that reaches the understory. This can be measured using the LAI (Leaf Area

several factors such as tree species, age, and density.
Looking at the amount of light that can penetrate to the understory also shows how much moisture can

gone on to become the world s main superpower, the United States of America. Britain s colony in
China, Hong Kong, has gone on to become Asia s premiere financial center with Singapore (another
British jewel) trailing just behind. Even Britain s prisoners set up the only first world country in the
Southern Hemisphere, Australia! Compare this to Spain s imperial efforts, for example Mexico is the
only third world country in North America and has always struggled to overcome a legal system
plagued with corruption. Why is it that the British colonies were so successful and the colonies of
other countries such failures in comparison? I feel the answer to that is British law. British law has
been a keystone in these colonies success. Their political ideals have helped sculpt the success stories
of the modern world, albeit there have been some failures such as India and Rhodesia where there
were civilians revolting against their new leaders. The British education system helped produce a new

The afterward in Let the Nations Be Glad! is written by Tom Seller, and it is about a little known

a missionary as someone who goes out for the sake of the name, accepting nothing from the Gentiles

sustained by the sending party and local church members. A missionary is a person who dedicates
their entire life to the Great Commission, someone who is obedient to the call of Christ in a way that

indicates two attributes of crisis: unexpectedness and destructiveness, so effective communication is
crucial to manage a crisis. The Nuance Group, a successful management consulting company, with a
reputation of experienced and highly educated consultants, was facing the crisis brought by its great
reputation . As a consultancy, it s their profession to market themselves. A glossy brochure with
specific introduction of consultants information, which is the highlight of the company s reputation, is
a fabulous method to market ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When this kind of exaggeration was acquiesced to do by the superior who also want to gain more
clients for the first time, he would think that s OK and tried another time, although he knew he lied.
After many instances of neglect by the superior, the consultant would not think his behavior was
unethical and believe it was normal. As a consequence, more and more employees chose to embellish
their biography because they believed this kind of behavior is good for the company.
Part2
The first 48 hours after the outburst of crisis is the prime time to reduce destruction of the crisis and
restore the reputation of the corporation, so when to react and how to react are crucial for crisis
communication. As for the Nuance case, the company needs to take the following steps to deal with
the crisis.
1. Establish crisis communication team and designate the leader and spokesperson
After the crisis emerged, the company needs to establish a crisis communication team first. The team
must consist of directors from various departments and high level executives, especially CEO and
crisis management experts. In this team, it is crucial to have a leader who could mobilize resources,
make a decision and be responsible for all decisions. Everyone in the team is responsible for a unique
issue.
2. Investigate the fact and make a crisis communication plan
Then the team needs to investigate the issue clearly as fast as possible because time is as

The Importance Of Snow In Books
It has been the coldest weather since 1885. Jem had seen snow before in books but never in real life,
unlike Scout, who saw the snow and thought the sky was falling. I honestly think Scout was horrified,
just imagine at her age, who hasn t seen snow at all, walking outside to the cold weather and bits of
sky falling all around you. Jem however, must have loved it, seeing snow in books and now getting to
actually experience it. They decide to make a snowman, but since it s Maycomb it didn t snow much,
so they had to compromise. Jem used dirt as a substitute for the lack of snow. At first, Scout thought
they were making a nigger snowman but then Jem told her his idea of making a dirt snowman then
putting snow on top of the dirt to make it

Market Capitalization
Investors often struggle to understand the complex dynamics driving prices higher or lower from day
to day. Learning how these factors shape certain trends underpins the foundation of a well constructed
portfolio. By and large, this requires a diverse selection of selection of stocks and bonds in different
industries and at varying levels of market capitalization.
Market Capitalization or market cap, for short is still considered the standard measure of a company s
size and financial performance. It is determined by multiplying the current price per share by the total
number of outstanding shares. Apple, for example, has about 5.2 billion shares outstanding and trades
a smidge over $150 per share, putting the phone makers market value ... Show more content on

But as the market storms to new all time highs, traditional benchmarks have also changed. What was
once considered a large cap stock 30 years ago is now considered small. Take JC Penney for example.
The beaten down department store is down to a mere $1.2 billion; a small cap by standard
classifications, but a microcap based on today s market conditions.
It is true that cap size tends to correlate with risk and return but as evidenced by Amazon s recent run,
this assumption does not always hold. Shares of the retail giant increased by 27 percent year to date
and nearly 300% in the past 5 years, compared to an 83% jump by the Russell 200 the de facto index
for tracking small cap companies. In spite of the aggressive movement, investors can still look at large
stocks as a safe bet when volatility emerges. Large companies are better equipped to weather market
turbulence or an economic downturn that slows down fundamental performance. They often generate
revenue from multiple different sources whereas smaller companies are built on a single product.
Although market cap is well known as an investing tool, there is a slew of insights which can be
extracted from the value of equities. The Buffet Indicator, for instance, gauges the health of the
economy by taking the percent of total market capitalization relative to gross domestic product (GDP).
If the metric rises

Essay about Blackberries in June
Bryan Blejski
ENG 101 F11
October 6, 2011
Blackberries in June In Ron Rash s Blackberries in June, it was easy to be immediately drawn into the
story. People can relate to the life of Matt and Jamie. Their life of being married after high school and
having a house of their own is a plan many people work to strive towards when in love after high
school. Their life seems almost perfect or typical throughout the story. A wonderful and happy
marriage with the wholesome relations with the other family members, and some tenseness between
an in law shows how Matt and Jamie s lives are what seems to be, normal. When Charlton (Jamie s
brother) has an accident and loses his leg, Matt is determined to still follow their dreams and plans ...

After the accident, Jamie s mother tells her, You know you got to help them, referring to Charlton s
family (Rash 246). Her mother expects Jamie and Matt to give up all their dreams and plans, including
their house, to help them. But the reason Linda, Charlton, and their family have no money is because
they waste it on booze, unnecessary make up, and an abundance of vehicles that are not needed. Jamie
feels there is no reason to give up what she and Matt have when there is plenty of other ways for
Charlton to receive help. Jamie s mother believes, That lake house, you had no right to expect such a
place so young... It was a miracle you got it in the first place. You cannot expect miracles in this life,
girl. Jamie will not sell her miracle and says Maybe not, Momma, But when they come a person has
got the right to take them (Rash 247).
Matt strongly does not put up with Jamie s family s thoughts of selling the lake house. He becomes
irritated with Linda and tells her Me and Jamie do not owe you anything. Linda s reply of you owe us
everything, if Charlton had not taken you on you would never have been able to make a down
payment on that lake house . This only strengthens Matt s decision to follow his dreams with Jamie. It
is astounding that Matt and Jamie are looked down upon because their life together is

The Social Problem Of Family Violence And Abuse
The social problem I decided to discuss is the subject of family violence and abuse, which includes
spouses and children. Now, as Ember and Ember explain in the text, in order to deal with violence
within families, we must first decide on what should be classified as abuse and what is not (Ember
Ember, pg. 230). The word abuse can have various definitions across cultures, as not everyone thinks
of it in the same way. To some, hitting a child is a perfectly acceptable form of punishment and of wife
beating can be seen in a male dominating household as a necessary act to keep a spouse in check. I
personally believe that abuse can be defined as the repeatedly cruel or violent treatment of someone,
mainly intended to do harm against that person. I believe that in order to combat this problem, there is
a few main actions that can be done that can at least reduce the amount of family violence we see
throughout cultures. For one, people need to acknowledge that family violence, both domestic
violence and child abuse is real and exists throughout countless societies and communities. The
second is to realize that family violence is not a necessary behavior and can actually have long lasting
and damaging effects on the people we love the most. The third action is to educate people in
alternative ways they can deal with their family members without having to resort to violence.
The first most important step in solving any problem is to actually express that there is a problem in

The Use of Language to create the setting in The Great Gatsby
How Does F Scott Fitzgerald use Language to create the setting and the atmosphere of this extract?
This extract, which describes Jay Gatsby s extravagant party is a microcosm of the type of seductive
and exciting lifestyle that was lived by those eager to fulfil the American dream in the 1920 s. It shows
how the original dream of happiness, individualism and prosperity has disintegrated into the mere
pursuit of wealth. Fitzgerald himself experienced this type of society and uses symbolism in this
extract to represent his conflicting feelings about the Jazz age and create a typical setting of this kind
of society. Referring to the novel as a whole, Giltrow David (from Studies in the Novel ) states that

The guests attending the party represent the restless need of society to be entertained and artificially
amused by those willing to provide it, and in this case it is Gatsby who succumbs to their insatiable
need, both for his own benefit and theirs. We are guided through the first half of the extract by Nick as
a third person narrator, and thus the reader is given a view of what takes place before the guests arrive
at least once a fortnight several corps of caterers came down . Nick gives the feeling of repetition of
the rituals described every Friday five crates of oranges and lemons arrived and by using this narrative
technique, creates a tired ritualistic atmosphere of routine labour on Mondays eight servants, including
an extra gardener, toiled all day . The tense changes, however, to the first person when people begin to
enter the party, and the previously felt negative atmosphere slowly disappear. The reader feels as if
they are on Nick s level, seeing what he sees. The reader s interpretation of the party is coloured by
Nick s almost poetic description and sometimes, ironic views on the event itself and its inhabitants.
Two distinct types of people are represented here: those who work for their money and those who don

  • 2. De Beauvoir s “Woman as Other” Woman as Other De Beauvoir s Woman as Other lays out an elaborate argument on gender inequality; using the term other to establish woman s alternate, lesser important role throughout her work, the author dissects and examines from its origin the female s secondary position in society in contrast to man. Indeed, from the beginning of recorded history, the duality of man, by definition, positions woman at the opposing end of the spectrum in relation to her male counterpart. Even by today s modern and accepting standards, the female suffers under the brand of being the sub standard half of the duality equation; compared to her male opponent, women are paid lower wages, have fewer and limited expression of rights, achieve lower ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Consequently, this has potential implications for the investment on the next generation; if parents view daughters as less likely to earn market wages or take paid work, they may be less inclined to invest in their education, which is woman s fastest route out of poverty. Also, in a job market dominated by men who monopolize the most important positions, the male faction generally retains the opportunities for success, for advancement or for higher wages. In fact, a recent class action lawsuit filed on behalf of 1.6 million women employed by Wal Mart stores alleges the retailer s sexual discrimination has led to women losing out on pay, promotions and other advances; women are paid less than men in every department of the store. According to the study named in the lawsuit, two thirds of Wal Mart s employees are female and less than one third of its managers are female Until recently, social development, by design has guaranteed women limited growth in the employment ranks by the standard curriculum path recommended for the female gender; typical high school and junior colleges required home economics and other domestic related courses to be completed by female students. Thus, the woman high school or junior college graduate enters the world without adequate training to compete in the business world beyond basic trade or blue collar worker positions. Finally, a ... • 3. Character Analysis Of Torvald In The Ibsen Torvald and Nora Helmer s marriage was a very deceptive one. Torvald treated Nora as if she were a child or favorite puppy according to a review by David Galens and Lynn Spampinato. Nora does everything Torvald says and is always on her best behavior for him. She is, at the start of the play, entirely dependent on Torvald. Nora lies and hides her truths from Torvald. She lies about the macaroons, her jobs, and her sources of income after taking out a loan in her father s name. Nora is a very strong and independent lady who does not actually need Torvald for anything, but she deceives herself into thinking so until the end of the play (Galens and Spampinato). In Jennette Lee s The Ibsen Secret: A Key to the Prose ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Torvald s treatment however did Nora no justice, in fact, it is implied at the end of the play that their marriage and her treatment was more fitting of an arranged marriage: ...I was simply transferred from papa s hands into yours. You arranged everything according to your own taste...You and papa have committed a great sin against me (Ibsen 1531). The reason is it such a sin indeed is because not only does she act this way herself, but she treats her own children similarly. Nora has fooled herself into believing that everything she does is aimed towards being the best wife to Torvald. She is only concerned with being the perfect wife according to a review by David M. Galens and Lynn M. Spampinato. However, what makes Nora s behavior even more disturbing is that she is aware of what tricks are necessary to get what she wants which is demonstrated in the opening scene of the play discussed above. The money she hustles from Torvald is used for her to shop and to help pay back the loan she took out several years back. Seven years prior, while on a trip to Italy, Tovald became gravely ill and was not expected to survive. Nora, out of love for her husband, went to a money lender named Krogstad and borrowed 250 pounds to stay in Italy long enough to save ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Leonardo Da Vinci And The Last Renaissance Art is never static. It evolves and exists within context. The growing body of scientific knowledge provided inspiration for the artists who interpreted events occurring around them in different ways. Inevitably, it was used to enrich their art. The Renaissance. Curious as to how the human body functioned, Leonardo Da Vinci dissected corpses from which he made numerous anatomical drawings. He was interested in how the tissues, veins and nerves were connected, and he even conducted an experiment to determine how the muscles in the heart worked. He understood anatomy, and from his detailed sketches of human muscle in the face, arms and legs, it is no wonder his version of The Last Supper in 1482 is the only one that depicts the disciples as people, displaying real emotions, possibly because he used his knowledge of facial muscles to create expressions and reactions that were recognizable. It is also the most common illegal drug used in the United States, and the second most used drug in the world, behind alcohol. According to one national survey, approximately 6,000 Americans try marijuana for the first time every day. Marijuana has been proven to positively affect some illnesses, and the Medical Legalization Movement has made great progress in the US (randomhistory.com 2007 2014). However, should the drug be approved for recreational purposes? Several significant reasons lead me to believe it should be. One major reason is the income. Growing a plant like this on public grounds may be unsafe for the surrounding ecosystem as well as hikers or visitors to the park. Legalizing the drug would get rid of any motives to cultivate such illicit farms. This would effectively save millions in efforts to rid of these plants and environmental clean up costs (www.mpp.org). California s taxpayer s are also shelling out for law enforcement officers to chase down and arrest marijuana consumers. According to FBI statistics, California arrested 74,119 people on marijuana charges in 2007 nearly 80 percent of those were for simple possession (www.mpp.org). In 2010, over 52 percent of all drug arrests in California were marijuana related, which is the highest it s been since 1995. Despite all the efforts by law enforcement officers and the exponential sum of money paid by taxpayers, chasing down people for using this plant costs us real money and isn t proving an effective strategy for curbing its use (F. Aaron Smith, California policy director for the Marijuana Policy Project, 2013). The closing statements in the previous paragraph lead to the next senior reason for marijuana s regulation: the marijuana related crime. Marijuana s share in the percentage of total drug arrests in California hit a high in 2010, reaching 52.1 percent. While it has ever so slightly fallen in the years following, it is still a substantial statistic; more than half of all drug arrests. Legalizing marijuana ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Gatsby, standing alone on the marble steps and looking from one group to another (51) does not mingle with his guests. Even at his own party, surrounded by glamour and people, he is still alone. Macbeth attempted to hide a part of himself in the play only to be revealed at the end. Throughout Macbeth Shakespeare used the motifs of blood, titles, and masks to gradually reveal Macbeth s true desires. At the beginning of the play Macbeth is a respected warrior, loved by his country. Shakespeare uses the motif of blood throughout the play, but in Act 1 the only bloodshed is from the thane of Cawdor, enemy of Scotland. He was unseamed from the naves to the chops by Macbeth, which was seen as an act of valor. This aids the gradual reveal in his true identity with the use of blood rather than just stating the change. By now those who are suspicious of Macbeth are beginning to catch on to the other side of him, and they begin to refer to him as black Macbeth, or devilish Macbeth. This is an obvious change from the royal and respectful titles at the beginning of the play and the reader can see the change not only in Macbeth, but what some people have begun to see in him. Culture Bound Syndrome Windigo Culture Bound Syndrome (CBS) is defined by the DSM IV as recurrent, locally specific patterns of deviant behavior and troubling experience that may or may not be linked to a particular DSM IV diagnostic category. Such patterns of behavior are indigenously considered to be an illness or at least an affliction, and most have names specific to the region or culture in which they originate. Many CBSs are not literally syndromes; they are more like ways of explaining any of a wide array of misfortunes. In the following pages I will attempt to explain the CBS known as windigo. In the oldest known English poem, Beowulf, it is recalled that around 550 to 950 A.D a windigo like creature, Grendel, would attack the great hall of the king of Danes during the night to seize men and carry them to his lair and eat them. According to the poem this happened for 12 years, and the only survivors were those who were able to flee the area where the creature would capture his victims. The creature s wrath continued until the new king of the Geats, Beowulf, along with the help of a dozen of his greatest warriors, laid a trap for the creature. During the battle, which ensued once the creature came to the hall to feed that night, Beowulf ripped off Grendel s arm, leaving it fatally wounded and dying. Once Beowulf had slain Grendel, he continued to he creatures underwater lair to kill Grendel s mother and stop the cannibalistic wrath caused by these beasts. Fast foods are considered in the definition of Merriam Webster Dictionary (2015), as relating to, or specializing in food that can be prepared and served quickly at a fast food restaurant that is designed for ready availability, use, or consumption and with little consideration given to quality or significance. Problem Statement The purpose of this research paper is to supply information concerning the functions fast foods and healthy foods has in the environment in relation to our bodies. The function of foods in daily life continues to be a stumbling block to the body performance that often increases stress levels and influences the body s ability to function properly (Malhi, 2010). The relationship between body image, stress, behavior, and student performance appear to be rare in literature, school handbooks and resources that is readily available leaving a gap in research. The complex nature of the body when there are levels of increased fast foods, creates considerable challenges for the body, (Dellve Wikström, 2009), with individual who have diets high in fast foods being subject to greater health risks (Wolever, et al., 2012). • 17. The Changing Roles and Experiences of Probation Officers Introduction According to the Bureau of Justice Statistics, there were over 4 million adults on probation in the United States in 2010. Today more and more agencies have shifted from simply monitoring an offender s compliance to using evidenced based practices to reduce recidivism rates. The intense involvement with offenders caused by this shift exposes officers to many new stressors that previously did not exist. A recent study by Kirsten R. Lewis, M.Ed., Ladonna S. Lewis, Ph.D., and Tina M. Garby, Psy.D., examined whether specific caseload events are associated with stress and burnout among this career specialty using various survey instruments. The results confirmed 2 of their hypothesis that officers who reported violent and sexual recidivism on their caseloads, offender suicide, and threats and/or assaults in the line of duty scored significantly higher on measures of traumatic stress and burnout... Length of service was also a contributing factor. The authors report of job stress on probation officers is applicable to any human service professional and especially supervisors, managers and administrators who have the capacity to make meaningful change by creating training programs and establishing ways to deal with the negative caseload events. The small study sample limited reliability of the results and more data is needed to assess the overall problem. Ms. K. R. As a result of the revolution the king was dethroned and beheaded and England was proclaimed a republic. Though very soon monarchy was restored, the position of the bourgeoisie had changed. After the meeting it is imperative that decision reached on the persons to be laid off must be in writing and mailed confidentially to keep all information classified. The answer to this question is tricky, but I think it was covered well throughout the play by focusing on the idea of, what would you say to a person you loved if they were still here? First, the definition of the human experience is all of the emotions and events someone will experience throughout their lifetime; examples fitting for this play are grieving and death. The first moment from Marjorie Prime where I felt the meaning was the first time we see Walter Prime. Walter Prime is clean cut and smooth in his dark blue suit and oxford shoes. He could pass for human, but his voice is eerily like that of a male Siri on iPhones. The whole idea of getting a prime for Marjorie was so that when her memory is totally gone from her mind, it will still be in the mind of the prime, and then he can feed her back her memories. The prime is in the form of Marjorie s husband, Walter, when he was in his thirties. Both of these elements of the prime give Marjorie back some companionship other than her daughter, Tess, and Tess s husband, John. We learn later on in the play that Marjorie lost her son, Damien, to suicide. The prime is able to help Marjorie s human experience by not relaying the painful memories of him back to her. He taught Ernest how to build fires and cook in the open, how to use and ax to build a shelter, how to make fishing flies, how to make bullets, and how to handle fishing gear and guns. He also taught them how to prepare small animals for mounting and how to dress and cook game. Ernest inherited the temperament and artistic talent of mother and the looks and sporting skills of his father. Both parents, when he was a boy, were foes of dirt and disorder. They brought up their children to follow strict schedules, stand inspection and be scrupulously neat and tidy. Ernest went to high school in Oak Park where he enjoyed writing for the school s literary magazine, reporting for the school s weekly newspaper called The Trapeze. He was mediocre at sports, playing football, swimming, water basketball and serving as the track team manager. Upon graduation in 1917, he was faced with three choices: college, war, or work. His father wanted him to go to college and be a doctor, but he rejected that; he was not in any hurry to go to war, and a job with the Kansas City Star wouldn t open until October, so he spent the summer on the farm in Michigan. • 39. Should The Missionaries In Tom Seller s Let The Nations Be... The afterward in Let the Nations Be Glad! is written by Tom Seller, and it is about a little known passage in the book of 3rd John. Seller talks about sending missionaries into the world, and he defines a missionary as someone who goes out for the sake of the name, accepting nothing from the Gentiles (Piper, p 263). What this means is that these people do not accept aid from governments, completely sustained by the sending party and local church members. A missionary is a person who dedicates their entire life to the Great Commission, someone who is obedient to the call of Christ in a way that makes a profound impact on their job. Many people think that a missionary is someone who is called to go and spread the gospel to the nations. While this is true, what they misunderstand is that we are all called to go to the nations, and we are all called to spread the name of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... We go into the nations because Christ, out of his love, came into the world to die as an atoning sacrifice for our sins. We love because He first loved us (1 John 4:19). In the same way, people are called to make disciples of all nations, and our prayer should not be whether to go; instead, it should be if we should stay. What I love about the conclusion of this book is that Seller shows that everyone is called to go to the nations. God did not come into the world so that we could have an easy life, sitting back and enjoying the temporary pleasures that will ultimately not fulfill us. Christ came so that we might go to the hard places and minister to the unlovable that they too might see the vast riches of God, and understand the magnitude of the love that God has for His people. We must send people and commit to that sending, and as a result God will be magnified among all people, and great will be the reward be for those who live out the Great ... When this kind of exaggeration was acquiesced to do by the superior who also want to gain more clients for the first time, he would think that s OK and tried another time, although he knew he lied. After many instances of neglect by the superior, the consultant would not think his behavior was unethical and believe it was normal. As a consequence, more and more employees chose to embellish their biography because they believed this kind of behavior is good for the company. Part2 The first 48 hours after the outburst of crisis is the prime time to reduce destruction of the crisis and restore the reputation of the corporation, so when to react and how to react are crucial for crisis communication. As for the Nuance case, the company needs to take the following steps to deal with the crisis. 1. Establish crisis communication team and designate the leader and spokesperson After the crisis emerged, the company needs to establish a crisis communication team first. The team must consist of directors from various departments and high level executives, especially CEO and crisis management experts. In this team, it is crucial to have a leader who could mobilize resources, make a decision and be responsible for all decisions. Everyone in the team is responsible for a unique issue. 2. Jem had seen snow before in books but never in real life, unlike Scout, who saw the snow and thought the sky was falling. I honestly think Scout was horrified, just imagine at her age, who hasn t seen snow at all, walking outside to the cold weather and bits of sky falling all around you. Jem however, must have loved it, seeing snow in books and now getting to actually experience it. They decide to make a snowman, but since it s Maycomb it didn t snow much, so they had to compromise. • 43. Market Capitalization Investors often struggle to understand the complex dynamics driving prices higher or lower from day to day. Learning how these factors shape certain trends underpins the foundation of a well constructed portfolio. By and large, this requires a diverse selection of selection of stocks and bonds in different industries and at varying levels of market capitalization. Market Capitalization or market cap, for short is still considered the standard measure of a company s size and financial performance. It is determined by multiplying the current price per share by the total number of outstanding shares. Apple, for example, has about 5.2 billion shares outstanding and trades a smidge over $150 per share, putting the phone makers market value ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... But as the market storms to new all time highs, traditional benchmarks have also changed. What was once considered a large cap stock 30 years ago is now considered small. Take JC Penney for example. The beaten down department store is down to a mere $1.2 billion; a small cap by standard classifications, but a microcap based on today s market conditions. It is true that cap size tends to correlate with risk and return but as evidenced by Amazon s recent run, this assumption does not always hold. Shares of the retail giant increased by 27 percent year to date and nearly 300% in the past 5 years, compared to an 83% jump by the Russell 200 the de facto index for tracking small cap companies. In spite of the aggressive movement, investors can still look at large stocks as a safe bet when volatility emerges. Large companies are better equipped to weather market turbulence or an economic downturn that slows down fundamental performance. They often generate revenue from multiple different sources whereas smaller companies are built on a single product. Although market cap is well known as an investing tool, there is a slew of insights which can be extracted from the value of equities. The Buffet Indicator, for instance, gauges the health of the economy by taking the percent of total market capitalization relative to gross domestic product (GDP). If the metric rises ... People can relate to the life of Matt and Jamie. Their life of being married after high school and having a house of their own is a plan many people work to strive towards when in love after high school. Their life seems almost perfect or typical throughout the story. A wonderful and happy marriage with the wholesome relations with the other family members, and some tenseness between an in law shows how Matt and Jamie s lives are what seems to be, normal. After the accident, Jamie s mother tells her, You know you got to help them, referring to Charlton s family (Rash 246). Her mother expects Jamie and Matt to give up all their dreams and plans, including their house, to help them. But the reason Linda, Charlton, and their family have no money is because they waste it on booze, unnecessary make up, and an abundance of vehicles that are not needed. Jamie feels there is no reason to give up what she and Matt have when there is plenty of other ways for Charlton to receive help. Jamie s mother believes, That lake house, you had no right to expect such a place so young... It was a miracle you got it in the first place. You cannot expect miracles in this life, girl. Jamie will not sell her miracle and says Maybe not, Momma, But when they come a person has got the right to take them (Rash 247). Matt strongly does not put up with Jamie s family s thoughts of selling the lake house. He becomes irritated with Linda and tells her Me and Jamie do not owe you anything. • 45. The Social Problem Of Family Violence And Abuse The social problem I decided to discuss is the subject of family violence and abuse, which includes spouses and children. Now, as Ember and Ember explain in the text, in order to deal with violence within families, we must first decide on what should be classified as abuse and what is not (Ember Ember, pg. 230). The word abuse can have various definitions across cultures, as not everyone thinks of it in the same way. To some, hitting a child is a perfectly acceptable form of punishment and of wife beating can be seen in a male dominating household as a necessary act to keep a spouse in check. I personally believe that abuse can be defined as the repeatedly cruel or violent treatment of someone, mainly intended to do harm against that person. I believe that in order to combat this problem, there is a few main actions that can be done that can at least reduce the amount of family violence we see throughout cultures. For one, people need to acknowledge that family violence, both domestic violence and child abuse is real and exists throughout countless societies and communities. The second is to realize that family violence is not a necessary behavior and can actually have long lasting and damaging effects on the people we love the most. The third action is to educate people in alternative ways they can deal with their family members without having to resort to violence. The first most important step in solving any problem is to actually express that there is a problem in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This extract, which describes Jay Gatsby s extravagant party is a microcosm of the type of seductive and exciting lifestyle that was lived by those eager to fulfil the American dream in the 1920 s. It shows how the original dream of happiness, individualism and prosperity has disintegrated into the mere pursuit of wealth. Fitzgerald himself experienced this type of society and uses symbolism in this extract to represent his conflicting feelings about the Jazz age and create a typical setting of this kind of society. Nick gives the feeling of repetition of the rituals described every Friday five crates of oranges and lemons arrived and by using this narrative technique, creates a tired ritualistic atmosphere of routine labour on Mondays eight servants, including an extra gardener, toiled all day . The tense changes, however, to the first person when people begin to enter the party, and the previously felt negative atmosphere slowly disappear. The reader feels as if they are on Nick s level, seeing what he sees.
