What academic subjects do you most enjoy and why?
I enjoy mathematics because it is fascinating to learn about mathematical formulas and famous
mathematicians who created complicated mathematical terms. I also enjoy science because it
provides fun experiments in subjects such as chemistry and physics, explains many exciting
phenomena, while introducing us to the famous scientists and their discoveries that have created
much of this world. I very much enjoy history because it teaches us many lessons and shares with
us great stories about different countries and historical figures. I also like geography as it expands
my knowledge about many cities and countries geographical features. Being bilingual (English and

Pabl Neruda
In every person, a self which interacts with the world appears to live. However, what can one truly
classify as their persona? Cognitive scientist Bruce Hood defines illusion as, [the] experience of
something that is not what it seems. By this denotation, he classifies the ego as illusory; humans
naturally experience it, but it does not actually exist. Accordingly, in Pablo Neruda s The Egoist,
Neruda contrasts personal identity with the natural world, deeming abandoning one s individuality
a necessary step to obtaining lasting satisfaction with existence. Neruda conveys his idea as a
physician would a diagnosis; first identifying the problem s nature, then outlining its effects and
solution. The Egoist s first stanzas portray the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Defending his controversial position concerning ego, the Egoist asks, What can I do if every
movement / of my hand brought me closer to the rose (35 36)? Here, Neruda characterizes the
self as straining and limiting via metaphor: the Egoist s futile hand movements bringing him
closer to the rose reflect his attempts to resist the truth leading to uncovering his actual nature.
Then, once again reflecting the first stanza, the Egoist notes, This day equal to all others
/ descends the stairs that do not exist / dressed in irresistible purity (45 47). He thus satirizes
separateness as a concept by expressing a ridiculous scenario: a single day, naturally equal to all
others, attempting to place itself above other days by descending nonexistent stairs. Thus, he
corroborates human delusion, trying to place oneself above nature s whole. And, once again,
Neruda characterizes the ego, but through a different perspective. He explicitly notes its deceptive
purity, which allures its victims before corrupting them as portrayed in the third stanza. Finally, in
the poem s final sentence, the Egoist ponders, [If] I breathe my own air, / why will I feel wounded
to death? (50 51), exemplifying the self s dangers. If one breathes their own air, ignoring their unity
with life, their unnatural behavior will wound them because the self creates nonexistent conflicts.

Persuasive Essay On Privacy And Privacy
Privacy in the 21st century is constantly violated. Any life, or even your own life, could
potentially be in danger by sharing locations accidentally, which could change one s future. Such
danger might be due to location services, which anyone can be easily found. On Snapchat,
Facebook, and Instagram applications, people can be tracked by using their whereabouts which
are easily accessible. GPS locations can be hacked, leading one to dangerous situations such as
encountering physical harm. Once again, due to advanced technologies in the 21st century, our
society faces major challenges due to public access putting privacy at risk. Global Positioning
Systems, otherwise known as GPS, create a worldwide problem for users of social media.
People s lives and their privacy are certainly affected by this searching, tracking, and misleading
location tracking. Almost all of people that has a phone uses social media. It is oblivious to
social media users who use the latest apps cause the main issues that can put internet users in
danger. Thieves and criminals lurk the internet, waiting to fool someone and steal from them, like
personal information. They have learned how to hack technology to find out where people live
and what they are doing on a daily basis. Social media creators that create an app with
applications don t think of issues that is can threaten personal safety. When Snapchat first launched

The Tell Tale Heart Insanity
Edgar Allan Poe is a peculiar author who wrote many short stories that made his readers question
his sanity. One of his stories being The Tell Tale Heart about a man whose obsessions make him
kill another man. The story is told in first person as it deals with a man s mental state and his and
his fall into madness. The protagonist is the one telling his own story about his obsession with
the old man s eye. The man for eight consecutive nights stands in the doorway of the old man s
chamber patiently waiting to commit what he thought was the only way to relieve him of his
obsession. The man than proceeded to murder the old man and cover it up as best as he could.

very repetitive and is constantly reminding the audience that is not mad just because he wants to

is nervous but then proceeds to ask how being nervous makes him a madman. Ultimately, what is
author is saying through tone is that throughout the whole story the protagonist admits he is
nervous and shows he is sad about his deed in the end when he admits to what he as done. This
shows how the main character is not in the right mindsets and is indeed mad not just

How To Teach Literacy
When it comes to teaching literacy, there can be some confusion because there are several things
this one little word encompasses. Literacy has long been known as the ability to read and write but
it has recently expanded to include things like computer literacy and competence of other things as
well.
For most, the process of becoming literate begins in early childhood. It starts by parents and
siblings and sometimes even babysitters, nannies or teachers who speak to and around an
individual, introducing them to the language of their people. Sometimes this talking to takes place
in the form of reading aloud, which is a great way to instill a love of reading, but still does not
teach the child how to read.
In teaching literacy, there

Tess of the D Urbervilles Essay
Tess of the D Urbervilles was first published in 1891 to mixed reviews. The book is about the
character Tess and it is a haunting and tragic tale set in England in the Victorian times in around
about the mid 1800 s. The book was intially turned down by publishers because the story included
seduction and illegitimate birth. In the book Hardy uses a lot of symbolism, some of which
foreshadows the events that occur later in the story. Tess s world is rural Wessex where agriculture
was the most important industry. The story contains many rustic characters which are linksback to
Hardy s own life; the rustic characters are friendly and understanding and do not judge other people
as much as the aristocratic chracters.

There is another point in the book where Tess prays at what she thinks is some sort of holy relic
but later finds out it was the grave of an evil man, Tis a thing of ill omen, Miss. It ws put up in
wuld times by the relations of a malefactor who was tortured there by nailing his hands to a post
and afterwards hung. the bones lie underneath. They say he sold his soul to the devil, and that he
walks at times , this foreshadows when she is hung at the end of the book.
Another use of symobolism is used late in the book where Tess and Angel are at stonehenge, But
Tess, really tired by this time, flung herself upon an oblong slab that lay close at hand, and was
sheltered from the wind by a pillar , some people speculate that ritualized funerary processions
where held at stonehenge which could foreshadow her coming death or this could be a reference
to sacrifice, and the stone of sacrifice midway . Also when Tess spends a night in the woods she
is described like she is hiding and there is also the story of the deer, this is foreshadowing to
when she becomes a wanted criminal and is hunted by the authorities, It is no use, sir, he said.
There are sixteen of us on the plain, and the whole country is reared.

Developmental Theories in Juno Essay
The movie Juno is not only an excellent representation of film and the creative process coming
together to create characters and a story that draws in the audience and allows them to invest
themselves in the lives of the characters, but it is also an excellent example of the developmental
process. This is because the movie reflects not only the development of its protagonist Juno
MacGuff and her emotional growth and development, but also her physical development
throughout her pregnancy.
Juno begins with the adolescent protagonist, sixteen year old Juno MacGuff, realizing that her one
night stand with her friend and long time crush, Paulie Bleeker, has resulted in her being pregnant.
However when Juno goes to the clinic to receive the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The arising conflict, which puts extra strain on Mark s relationship with Vanessa, who is so sure
in her desire to have a child, results in their separation and the falling apart of what seemed such
a perfect solution to Juno s predicament. Mark and Vanessa s separation hits Juno especially hard,
because in her helpless situation Mark and Vanessa s seemingly perfect situation not only
grounded her but gave her hope, as her birth parent s divorce and the dysfunctional relationship
between her father and stepmother seem to give her no hope for happiness now or later in life.
As Juno s pregnancy reaches full term her faith in others and relationships is restored when she
realizes that Vanessa s desire and love for her unborn child makes her more than suitable to be the
mother of her child, which also gives her the courage to express her true feelings for her friend
Paulie. The movie ends on an inspirational and hopeful note, with Juno having a healthy baby boy
whom Vanessa willingly and lovingly accepts, and Juno and Paulie entering into a healthy and
stable relationship. After watching the movie with some knowledge of the process of growth and
development, the role that Bronfenbrenner s, Piaget s, and Erickson s theories played in Juno s
development.

Fulvalene Synthesis
What fulvalenes are and how can we synthesis fulvalenes containing chalcogen on their molecule
type. Compounds like benzophenon, thiobenzophenone and selenobenzophenone are some
fulvalenes that contain Oxygen, Sulfur and Selenium. The preparation of those compounds is
different for each one, however, benzophenone can be the counteract to synthesise the others. A
fulvalene is a hydrocarbon obtained by formally cross conjugating two rings through a common
exocyclic double bond. The name is derived from the similarly structured fulvenes which lack one
ring. The fulvalene molecule is interesting as an example of a conjugated hydrocarbon for which
only dipolar resonance structures can be written, apart from the basic neutral structure, and it has...

Acetonitrile was the solvent of choice, as it showed optimal performance in the selective
epoxidation of functionalized alkenes with TBHP. In such solvent, the primary product of the
reaction observed at short reaction times was the corresponding trans stilbene epoxide (3), as
expected. This product is due to epoxidation of the C C double bond catalyzed by titanium(IV)
centers in the presence of alkyl hydroperoxides and such behavior is fully consistent with several
previous observations. In addition, thanks the use of anhydrous TBHP, the reaction proceeded
mainly following a heterolytic oxidation pathway and hence with a good selectivity to the desired
epoxide. However, at longer reaction times (72 h), the reaction proceeded further and the major
observed product was surprisingly benzophenone (5). Even if thiobenzophenone is quite stable,
although it photoxidizes in air to form benzophenone and sulfur. Thiobenzophenone is deep blue
and dissolves readily in many organic solvents. One of the first reported syntheses of
thiobenzophenone involves the reaction of sodium hydrosulfide(2equal) and benzophenone
dichloride. However, in the reaction scheme of the second method, a mixture of gaseous hydrogen
chloride and hydrogen sulfide are passed into a cooled solution of benzophenone in ethanol.

Questions On Design Of Technical Systems Essay

USC ID 8834875144
AME 503 Paper Study 2
INTRODUCTION
As specified in the paper Complexity in Design of Technical Systems, an exact definition to the
meaning of the word complexity is a matter of debate and discussion. It is not to be mistaken for
anything but the complexity involved while designing or modifying a technical system or rather an
engineering system. The paper is vigorous in mentioning the existence of two main complexities
that needs special attention dawned upon them while designing the system viz. inborn complication
and acquired complication. Inborn complications are dictated by the customer needs that have
been considered for the design, they may not be varied or dealt with as stated by Nam Pyo Suh
however the sphere of influence of the designer is within the reaches of the acquired complexity.
Acquired complexity may be kept to a minimal low if the designer of the system carefully
understands the inter relations, functional dependency and the physical probabilities involved, but
at the same time the inborn complication should also be kept at its lowest possible level based on
Customer Requirements (CR).
It is most likely that the readers get confused between Suh s Axiomatic Design Theory and
Complexity Theory , although they seem to be intertwined into each other s concepts it is obvious
through deeper study that the former focuses on functional dependency and the later primarily on
physical probability

Public Relations Institute Of New Zealand Essay
The Public Relations Institute of New Zealand (PRINZ) defines public relations (PR) as the mutual
understanding between organisations and their target audiences. (PRINZ, 2014). The definition
will be broken down and explained by using systems, relationships and management, and the
excellence theories. These theories will be accompanied by an example of PR in a New Zealand
organisation, to explain the relevant models involved with PR in the real world.
PRINZ definition of Public Relations is, The deliberate, planned and sustained effort to establish
and maintain mutual understanding between an organisation and its target audiences. (PRINZ,
2014). This means that PR is in charge of maintaining a working relationship between the
organisation and its publics. The publics are the variety of different people who are affected by the
organisation. Relationships in regards to PR shows the state existing between the organisation and
its key publics, in which the actions of both impact on the economic, political and social well being
of the other. (Ledingham Brunig, 1998).
A contemporary New Zealand example of PR in an organisation is the BNZ Shake, rattle and roll:
responding to Central North Island earthquakes case study. This was brought about by the 6.5
magnitude earthquake that hit Wellington Central in July 2013. BNZ s Wellington office had been
severely damaged and its 1300 employees could not return back to the office because it was unsafe.

History.com Staff. Columbine High School Shootings. History.com, A E Television Networks,
2009, www.history.com/topics/columbine high school shootings. 27 November 2017 The source
from history.com describes the Columbine incident by Dylan Klebold and Eric Harris. They killed
twelve students and a teacher with semiautomatic guns. Then when the SWAT team arrived at the
school at around 3:00 PM, the dead bodies of the gunmen were found in the school. The gunmen
committed suicide at around noon and twenty three injured students were evacuated out of the
school and into the hospital. Following the incident, an investigation was done on the motives of
the shooters. It was suspected that the gunmen primarily targeted athletes, minorities and
Christians. It was reported that a student Cassie Bernall was shot to death because she said she
believed in god when asked by one of the gunmen. However, it was later determined that the
shooters randomly chose their targets and had intended on bombing the cafeteria to potentially take
hundreds of lives. Thankfully, the bombs never went off. It was discovered the Klebold and Harris
regularly played DOOM, which was the most violent video gameat the time.
The debate on whether video games influenced the individuals who performed these horrendous
acts kick started with the Columbine massacre. I felt I had to read the background information of

Methanol Alcohol And Ethanol Lab
The main purpose of this lab is to determine whether or not the number of carbon molecules relate
to the amount of energy emitted measured through the temperature change over the course of 2
minutes. The main three tested fuels are fuels methanol (CH3OH), ethanol (C2H5OH), propanol
(C3H7OH). Based on those formulas, Propanol alcohol has 3 carbons, Ethanol alcohol has 2
carbons and methanol has 1 carbon. Based on the hypothesis mentioned above If the number of
Carbon molecules in the fuel increases, the amount of energy over 2 minutes is going to increase .
Based on the data shown above, propanol fuel had the most temperaturechange meaning that it
burned with the most energy. Following that is ethanol fuel having the second greatest temperature

Gun Safe Essay
The moment you decide to invest in a gun(s), purchasing a gun safe also becomes important.
This is the only logical way to minimize the possibility of accidents or loss of firearms. Buying a
safe however, is not always a straightforward process. You need to first familiarize with a couple
of recommendations, regulations and marketing techniques in order to make an informed choice.
Let us briefly take a look at what to look for in a gun safeas detailed under the following 7
questions.
1.What is the right gun safe capacity to go for?
Something you may not be aware of is that gun safe manufacturers have a habit of bragging about
the large number of guns they can squeeze into their safes. Unfortunately, what may be advertised
as high capacity ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
That is why safes made of concrete amalgamates and steel are ranked as the most reliable. But at
the same time, some RSC gun safes are light yet still categorized as reliable. Are they really
safe? Well, yes because modern technology has enabled manufacturers to maximize on available
resource to build lighter yet effective units. The best way to determine if a safe is worth its
weight is by comparing its height weight ratio. For instance a 60 inch tall gun safe (RSC) can
weigh anywhere between 500 and 800 lbs. Anything below 300 lbs would be questionable.
5.What Quality Of Steel Is Used?
Steel is usually the most valuable component of a safe as it provides resilient burglary protection
and withstands damage remarkably. However, there are some cases where manufacturers
produce substandard steel and use it to make commercial gun safes. Some use misleading tactics
such as thick robust doors but what they don t tell you is that only a thin part of this door is
actually made of steel. Others even boast of providing 2 inch of steel thick walls only to use a 14
gauge piece of steel combined with layers of drywall. The recommended minimum guidelines of
steel usage are as follows.
*Door Outer Sheet Should be at least 7 gauge. Remember, even a thin looking 7 gauge steel is
better than a thick looking composite door that s made of 12 gauge steel wrapped around some weak

Is State, Citizenry, and Leader Neutrality ,in Religious...
Is state, citizenry, and leader neutrality in religious matters necessary?
The dichotomy between the State and religion has been at the forefront of society since the dawn
of civilization. The common ideologies of the American government, as we know them today,
indicate that the State is neutral with respect to the normal values, religious beliefs, and/or ways of
life held by its leaders, laws, and citizens alike. Although leaders may hold true to a certain religion
and may hold personal morals, it is not necessary to set aside their religious beliefs in order to
create a neutral society. With that, this paper will first discuss the origins of the attempt to create a
neutral state as seen in the works of William Penn (1682). This ... Show more content on

In other words, the liberty professed by Penn, Jefferson and the rest of the founding fathers, is that
of Christian liberty. The practicability of the word liberal not as we know it today, but as a step
along the way towards secularization of this idea, one where its meaning can have a much wider
applicability to all religions which was an important first step in creating America. By in large, Penn
s piece exemplifies traditional Christian political thought as the basis of liberty and good
government arising primarily from charity and/or devotion to the community, and can be further
demonstrated by Penn s conception of government in which he states that ... the glory of almighty
God and the good of mankind is the reason and end of government (1682). Thus, much of the roots
of American liberalism have a basis in the puritan and Protestant religions. With the advent of the
Declaration of Independence, the American Revolution, and the Constitution, one sees the
Enlightenment Era philosophers such as John Locke, break the chains of Christian liberty and
bring about liberalism in the sense of inalienable natural rights. Moreover, the fusion of liberty,
democracy and Christianity are essential in this spirit and crucial to America s liberal founding.
In terms of whether a leader or civil servant must divorce his religion or personal morals when
serving the state, it can be argued the underpinnings of a democratic

Modernism In Form Follows Function, By Wilk Christopher
In this essay I am going to talk about one theme of Modernist, looking at the different views of

and the second book is Modernism by Wilk Christopher.
The Modernist theme I had choose is Form Follows Function . Form follows purpose, use is a sense

fruitful visual experiences. The warm color atmosphere around the exhibition makes us forget about
the fear and sorrow of death. Different rooms have different mediums of artworks. This gives the
exhibition an outstanding rhythm that is different from normal exhibitions, which would not make
this exhibition stiff. The artworks in this exhibition do not only reflect the theme but also make a

Counseling Center Analysis
The Center for Collegiate Mental Health (CCMH) oversees a comprehensive, practice research
network, designed to help directors of university and college counseling centers (UCC) monitor
clinical trends, enhance treatment effectiveness, and advocate for additional resources (McAleavey,
Castonguay, Hayes, Locke, 2014). Through this initiative, standardized measures are used to collect
data from UCCs across the United States. One of these, the Counseling Center Assessment for
Psychological Symptoms 34 (CCAPS 34; Locke et al, 2012), was constructed as a brief
multidimensional outcome measure, assessing seven clinical subscales including depression, eating
concerns, alcohol abuse, generalized anxiety, hostility, social anxiety, and academic

More recently, ML methods have also been extended to research applications involving structural
equation modeling (Little, 2013), single case research designs (Rindskopf Ferron, 2014), and meta
analysis (Feingold, 2017). Also, within a measurement context, psychometric researchers have
introduced several strategies for reformulating both Rasch and item response theory (IRT) models
to account for clustered data (Rijmen, Tuerlinckx, de Boeck, Kuppens, 2003; Gorter, Fox, Twisk,
2015; Barbieri, Peyhardi, Conroy, Gourgou, Lavergne, Mollevi, 2016; Blanchin, Hardouin, Neel,
Kubis, Blanchard, MiralliГ©, SГ©bille, 2015). From these developments and expanded access to
user friendly software, ML techniques are becoming more common in UCC research to help
investigators study complex questions such as college student suicide (Drum, Brownson, Denmark,
Smith, 2009), therapeutic outcomes between white counselors and racial/ethnic minority clients
(Hayes, McAleavey, Castonguay, and Locke, 2016), therapist effects on premature termination
(Xiao, Castonguay, Janis, Youn,, Hayes,, Locke, 2017; Xiao, Hayes, Castonguay, McAleavey,

Research On Information Metering And Measurement
Information Metering and Measurement
Study in information metering and measurement can be classified into smart metering, and smart
monitoring and measurement. In the following, this classification in point.
a)Smart Metering: Smart metering is the mainly important mechanism used in the Smart Grid for
obtaining information from end users devices and appliances, while also controlling the
performance of the devices. Automatic metering infrastructure (AMI) systems, which are
themselves built upon automatic meter reading (AMR) systems, are broadly regarded as a sound
strategy to realize Smart Grid. AMR is the technology of routinely collecting analytical, expenditure,
and status data from energy metering devices and transferring that data to a central database for
billing, troubleshooting, and analyzing. AMI differs from traditional AMR in that it enables two
way communications with the meter. So almost all of this information is available in real time and
on demand, allowing for better system operations and customer power demand organization.
b) Smart meters, which carry two way communications amid the meter and the central system, are
like in many aspects to
AMI meters, or occasionally are regarded as part of the AMI.
A smart meter is typically an electrical meter that records use in intervals of an hour or less and
sends that information at least every day back to the utility for monitoring and billing purposes.
Also, a smart meter has the capability to

Physical Therapy
Physical therapists are members of a health care team, specially trained to improve movement and
flinction, relieve pain, and expand movement potential. Through evaluation and individualized
treatment programs, physical therapists can both treat existing problems and provide preventive
health care for people with a variety of needs (Physical Therapy Improving 1). Physical therapists
are very knowledgeable and skillful concerning the human body. Physical therapy is a complex, but
rewarding field to pursue as a career. Specialization, working conditions, job outlook, salaries, and

physical therapist also assesses the need and use of braces and artificial limbs, function of the
heart and lungs, integrity of sensation and perception, and performance of activities required in

careful documentation. The documentation is mainly used to keep a record of rehab used, to
reflect back on improvement, and to provide legal records.
The working conditions for physical therapists are fairly attractive, mainly because of the wide
range of choices. Physical therapists can choose the setting they want to work in. Though a large

In fact there will never was, nor will there ever be, a time that would surpass the horror humanity
faced during the outbreak. We were put through a trial. Some passed and some failed. The worst
traits of humanity were exposed during the outbreak. But at the same time, the best traits shone
so brightly that the darkness of humanity dissipated. It was the survivors that fought to get our
lives back who had these traits. Many credit me with bringing together so many people, with
different ideals, to fight back or bringing out the best in people because I inspired them. That
was not true. It was thanks to true humanity. The humanity I always knew existed. It s just that it
was always suppressed by the darkness of humanity. If you said to me a year before the outbreak
that this would happen, I would send you to a mental asylum. I guess the joke is on me, so to
speak. I wasn t, what some would say, a confident person. I would just follow others and just do
my job. The outbreak changed all that. It changed everyone, especially me. Some people got
stronger due to the outbreak. Some became weaker. Being leader of the survivors? This idea would
be absurd to me before the outbreak. I never wanted to be a leader. I just wanted to get by life like
any other person. I didn t believe that I would make a good leader. But I was wrong. What was

Persuasive Essay On Endangered Species
Endangered Species A place without life is hardly even a place at all. The waves would flow over
the oceans rocks, the sun would shine on the green leaves without prevail. The world builds with
pollution, plants expand, and food virtually ends. In an environment, lacking the fundamentals of
life, the existence of humans would experience complications of survival and health. The living
cells of speciesprovide a world of opportunity, health, and life. Over the last one hundred years, the
population of endangered specieshas drastically risen. With the inadequate decisions regarding
living species, the rate of endangered and threatened species will continue to increase. Through
many different developments, species can be considered endangered or threatened and this
condition can result from a multitude of factors and direct effects to the species. Groups, services,
and organizations work together to protect these species through conservation practices and
government assistance. Species can be sorted into various categories. An endangered species is an
animal, plant, or another organism that is initially threatened and could potentially become extinct.
All species are important to the world and surrounding environment. These organisms provide
medicinal properties for society, help filter air and water, and provide the community with a
plentiful supply of resources, including clothing and food ( Endangered Species ). Any species that
crawls, walks or roams the earth can be pushed towards a level of endangerment. Once a species is
considered threatened or endangered in an ecosystem, groups of scientists and biologists analyze
the situation and classify the organism into the correlating category. Researchers calculate the
population size and growth rates, along with popular trends within the species. After initial
observations and research, the endangered species is classified into one of three groups: nationally
critical, nationally endangered, or nationally vulnerable ( Conservation Status of Plants and
Animals ). Many organisms cannot be protected due to limited budgets and the immense amount of
work involved with classification. In order to create awareness and establish protection methods for

The Problems Of Municipal Administration By Jane Addams
The Problems of Municipal Administration written by Jane Addams described the problems of
public administration in targeted social publics that affected the community, specifically she
mentioned the inequalities and injustices of municipal administration. The author stars by pointing
out the failure of municipal administration to address the issues emerging in society. The social
changes brought by the increased of industrialization in the 18th century failed to address the
necessities of society. Addams emphasized, ...failure in municipal administration, the so called
shame of American cities, may be largely due to the inadequacy of those eighteen century ideals,
with the breakdown of the machinery which they provided, and further, to the weakness inherent in
the historic and doctrinaire method when it attempts to deal with growing and human institutions
(p. 51). The lack of adjustment between democracy and the study of the external conditions
affecting the communities was a problems that governmental officials failed to take into
consideration. The increased of industrialization in American cities brought a new social demand to
public officials who were unprepared to target the existing issues of society. Administrative officers
started to gaining power to conduct intervention programs or institutions. However, people started
to distrust public administrators and institutions for their inefficiency and incapacity they gave to
the treatment of social issues. The author

Why Guns Should Be Banned
Is it time to ban guns? Yes guns must be banned because they are the causes of many deaths
amongst the people of the U.S today. Gun violence result in fifty percent of today s tragedies.
Handguns causes too many deaths, the government need to make gun less accessible, and the law
enforcement need to really enforce the laws they make. First, and foremost many handguns have
claimed the lives of too many people. This is a very serious issue we must tackle globally not just

17 others wounded. December 14, 2012 Sandy Hook Elementary school, 28 children shot, these
incidents were just a couple of the deadliest mass shootings in the US. In 2012 Dedrick Owens
age Six opens fire at Kayla Rolland. This shows me that we should make the laws more strict and
makes more gun policy with a kid even touching a gun And or having the gun in a place where a
child could reach it. More than 75 percent of first and second graders know where their parents

no greater illusion than fear,/ no greater wrong than preparing to defend yourself,/ no greater
misfortune than having an enemy (26). This is an ingenious concept, yet we all face fear

people buy these products or go through workouts and procedures to look the way people deem is

are also paid thousands of dollars to tweet preconstructed, public relations made, 140 or less

one could only imagine the impact that these people have on society. For people s favorite
celebrities, there are little notification buttons that can be turned on so that a person is instantly

In 1997 to 2008, the cost of goods sold changed due to a decline in the rounds of golf being played,
which caused equipment sales to decline as well. This would also directly effect of the supplies of
raw material. 5). Competitive pressures that stem from the different golf equipment retailers. There
are competition with on course pro shops, off course pro shops, and online golf retailers. * Driving
Forces
The driving forces in the golfing industry that is the major underlying causes of change, is 1).
Marketing innovation. The golfing industry needs to find a way to spark the consumers interest
back into the golfing game. The number of rounds played per year declined from 2007 to 2008
by nearly 9 million rounds. Since about 30 percent of golfers say that they stopped playing
because the fees to play a round of golf are too costly, there should be a decrease in golfing fees.
2). Changes in who buys the product and how they use it. The golfing industry should target a
younger age group of golfers. The decline in golfers took place among golfers who were married
with children, and older golfers who were retired but had health concerns and injuries. The golfing
industry needs to make equipment, apparel and golf in itself more appealing so that the decline
experienced will start to bring a different crowd in as consumers. 3) Changes in cost and efficiency.
Because sales are declining, the golfing industry may need to lower the costs

Belinda Placing Blame in Alexander Pope s The Rape of the Lock
I will be examining lines 147 160 of Canto IV in The Rape of the Lock. In this selection, Belinda
speaks in a monologue, apparently regretting past actions that have caused her the loss of her
lock. However, it becomes clear that she is exaggerating her loss and the preventive measures she
could have taken. By citing radical changes that would have been necessary to prevent the
occurrence, she makes it clear that it is very difficult for a woman to escape men. In this manner,
she is able to lay most of the blame for the rape of the lock on the nature of men rather than her own
vain lifestyle. During her exaggerated monologue, Belinda will refer to events earlier ... Show more

For her, the entire day was a terrible day that will live in infamy forever. In lines 149 150 she
says that she would be ten times happier now if she had never even seen Hampton Court. These
first four lines introduce the mood of the passage, with Belinda implying that she regrets having
lived life the way she has. By saying Hampton Court these Eyes had never seen! (Pope IV. 150) she
implies regret at having spent time at Hampton Court and her actions there. This lock may
symbolize her virginity, which indeed was of great pride and value to women of the day. Had she

In lines 150 151 Belinda is no longer solely blaming herself as she goes on to suggest that she is
not completely at fault for what has transpired. She makes the observation that she is not in any
way the first woman to have ever made the mistake of trusting men. Many other young virgin

This may be implying that she should have lived like religious puritan women. These women led
chaste lives and many lived on the sparsely

Lying, By Jeremy Bentham
I am going to argue why lying is immoral no matter who you might be lying to, friends, family,
and even someone you do not know. This is immoral because even though lying to someone may
bring relief or happiness it s still hiding the truth from that person. Hiding something they deserve
to know even though it may hurt them may also be a form of lying. There are many situations
where lying may end friendships, relationships, or even tare families apart because most people
want to know the truth no matter how harsh, because eventually the truth may come out. In
addition to hiding information, there are also other forms of lying. Telling someone false
information as well as withholding information are forms of lying. The worst part about telling a
lie is that the more you do it the more comfortable one may become. Lying becomes a habit to
many people, a habit they have a hard time breaking. Lying can simply be defined in one word,
deception. Jeremy Bentham who is a British philosopher in the 1700 s and early 1800 s believed in
the principle of utility otherwise known as utilitarianism. Jeremy Bentham thinks it s permissible to
tell a small lie because in the long run Bentham is looking for the ultimate amount of happiness.
Bentham believes in the greatest happiness for the greatest number. As long as an act brings more
happiness than disappointment then that act is moral. One situation may be three friends found out
something that their other friend does not know but can

How Technological Warfare Could Not Be Considered The...
Technological warfare might not be considered the fairest of them all, especially not in this era of
warfare advances. Multiple technological advances have been made, and many of them have been
made for the purpose of war. A very common technological advance in relation to war is guns, but
there is no gun like the CIA s (Central Intelligence Agency) 1970 s Heart Attack Gun. According to
Kurt Nimmo of Info Wars, at the point when the heart assault firearm is shot at an individual, the
fatal poison from the bullet rapidly enters the circulatory system causing a myocardial infarction.
The toxic substance denatures rapidly, so a post mortem is unable to determine the cause of the
cardiac arrest. The dart from this complex CIA weapon can penetrate garments and leave only a
small red spot on the skin, like that of a mosquito bite. The toxic dart disintegrates to its aggregate
in the wake of entering the target. We all know what the purpose of a firearm is, even on the
battlefield, but imagine being able to play war off of the battlefield and without arising suspicion.
Imagine taking out your enemy without having to be held accountable for it. Well those are the
implications of a gun with this much power. Now, moving forward to yet another militaryrate
weapon advancement in technological warfare.

St. Thomas Aquinas Experience
St. Thomas Aquinas was the school I ve wanted to go to since 8th grade. I ve also never went to
a catholic school even though I m catholic, so that is going to be a whole new experience for me.
I m excited for the experience and get to know new people throughout the journey. I ve also
heard the St. Thomas sports team are great so I m excited to go to the football games with my
friends and have a good time. Also getting involved in a sport team will help me get to know new
people that like to do the same sport as I do.
What I m hoping to accomplish here at St.Thomas Aquinas is obviously getting good grades for
me to be prepared for college. I have a strong feeling this school is going to set me off to the right

Software Patents and Piracy in China Essay
Software Patents and Piracy in China
Abstract
Software patents raise a lot of issues during the development of IT industry. As a legal action in
protecting the ownership and intellectual property, software patents are applied to a wide range of
codes, from source code, processes to OS, etc. It provide exclusive rights to the patent holder to
use and profit from the product or process in question. 1 This paper will discuss the general
background and effects of software patents. After presenting its current law and situation in China
and US, the Microsoft vs. Ju Ren Co. case shows the difference between these two regions. It
suggests that enforcing intellectual property still has a long way to go in China. From ethical point

Then a patent search will be performed through patent database. After passing the evaluation of the
commercial potential of this invention, it will be patented. This patent will then be legally
protected by US law. If the patent process is filed in other countries, for example, China, the
ownership should also be protected by the local Chinese government.
China has achieved great success in economic reform in the last ten years. The increasing foreign
investment, especially in high tech, has made China one of the biggest market for the sale and
licensing of IPR products. During the period 1993 to 1997 alone, high tech related foreign
investments in China has reached a total of $185.8 billion.2 However, IPR protection in China is
still way behind US. The most common problem is piracy. Software piracy refers to the illegal or
unauthorized copying of software. In a sense it is ethical equivalent to pirates attacking ships in
public water. The International Intellectual Property Alliance estimates that millions of pirated
DVDs worth $160 million, and $47 million worth of fake CDs and cassettes were sold in China in
2001, 6 In this paper two cases will be analyzed in ethical and legal perspectives of patent and
piracy.

The World Is A Dangerous Place
In the words of Albert Einstein The world is a dangerous place to live; not because of the people
who are evil, but because of the people who don t do anything about it. The importance of these
words and the desire to pursue my Master degree in Science in Global Studies and International
Relations came to me as an epiphany, while roaming the streets of Brazil. After a decade of
working as a nuclear engineer, at one of the world s leading nuclear instrumentation companies, I
have encountered numerous issues such as nuclear waste disposable, non proliferation, and energy
independence. It is through these efforts that, I have come to realize that the greatest impediment to
solving these problems is often the labyrinth of political hurdles and deciphering the technical
implications of government standards. As an engineer, my world has been framed by logical
assessments and conclusions. I was brought up and taught to think critically, analyze, and solve
problems. I have been living in a microsphere of the nuclear industry and have come to the
realization that the true solution to a problem often lies not only in science but in diplomacy. For
example, a university in Egypt wanted to buy a monitor. The monitor they wanted to purchase did
not contain any nuclear material (but did allow for workers to check if they are contaminated with
nuclear material). This simple request became a rather interesting situation not only because my
company is 96% owned by the government of France,

Essay about We Wear the Mask
Paul Laurence Dunbar, dispatches the cold troubles of African Americans in the lyrical poem, We
Wear the Mask. In this poem, Dunbar links imagery, rhythm, rhyme, and word choice to in order
to institute a connection to the reader. From reading the poem, one can infer that Mr. Dunbar is
speaking in general, of the misery that many people keep concealed under a grin that they wear
very well. But if one were to go further and take the time to research Mr. Dunbar s selection of this
piece and the era of which this poem was written, one would come to understand that this poem
focuses entirely on Paul Laurence Dunbars viewpoints on racial prejudice and the struggle for
equality for the African American s of his time period. Though this... Show more content on

Since it does, when reading each line, there is a resilient connection that allows the reader to put
together and feel for what the narrator is speaking of. As each line is metrically linked, the words
are further recited in a durable voice and the poem is virtually put together, musically. In the first
and second lines of the third stanza, an apostrophe, a figure of speech that directly addresses an
absent person or entity, is presented, We smile, but O great Christ, our cries to thee from tortured
souls arise. Alliteration and metaphors are two major elements of this poem. The repetition of
consonant sounds and alliteration occurs throughout the poem. All of the lines strongly use the
repetition of consonants and alliteration except for lines two and seven. In addition to that, the
controlling figure of speech in this poem is a metaphor. It is strongly articulated in the first line,
and as the one continues to read, it is amplified and extended throughout the rest of the poem. The
metaphor compares mask of Line 1 to the fabricated emotive facades that African Americans had
made use of in order to avert provoking their oppressors.
Ultimately, since Dunbar avoids specifically mentioning blacks and their suffering, with the
history of this poem in mind, this poem could stand as a lament on behalf of all of the individuals
who were forcefully made to wear a mask just as a girl who tries to hide her pregnancy from her
parents, or as a boy who

Flood and National Weather Service
A flash flood is a rapid flooding of geomorphic low lying areas washes, rivers, dry lakes and basins.
It may be caused by heavy rain associated with a storm, hurricane, or tropical storm or melt water
from ice or snow flowing over ice sheets or snowfields. Flash floods can also occur after the
collapse of a natural ice or debris dam, or a human structure such as a man made dam, as occurred
before the Johnstown Floodof 1889. Flash floods are distinguished from a regular flood by a
timescale less than six hours. The temporary availability of water is often utilized by plants with
rapid germination and short growth cycle, and by specially adapted animal life.

commercial establishments were unable to function from late evening of 26 July 2005. The state
government declared the 27th (and later, 28th) of July as a public holiday. ATM networks of

To believe or not to believe that is the question. Robertson Davies depicts a novel in which two
opposing characters strive for self completion. The journey of completing one s self is one of Jung
s archetypes. According to Jung, completing both the body and soul lies within the characteristics
of the psyche. The psyche is composed of three parts: the collective unconscious, ego and the
personal unconscious. The collective unconscious is what people come into this world knowing,
how children are shaped as adults through their childhood experiences and parental influences. The
ego is the image people believe they are. It is this image which people pursue through the rest of
their lives until they achieve self completion. Lastly, the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

experiencing a blow of shrapnel. Seeing Mrs. Dempster as a Madonna shows how much respect
Ramsay has for women. Staunton on the other hand sees women just as physical objects as he
sees many of the other things in his life. A man with my physical needs can t be tied down to
one woman especially not a woman who doesn t see sex as a partnership who doesn t give
anything, who just lies there like a damned sandbag (Davies 175). Staunton throughout the novel
has cheated on his girlfriends or wives. He does not respect women at all compared to Ramsay
who sees Mrs. Dempster as a saint. Staunton s capitalist and materialistic ideas are never made
clearer than at the point where he decides to leave his father. He was going to be a very rich man
richer than his father by far and he was getting ready (Davies 105). Having grown up in a rich
family, Staunton developed a greed for money and a materialistic attitude. He is following in his
father s identity rather than searching for who he truly is, as Ramsay does when he is a child.
Ramsay is very curious about the world and wants to learn more. He is very interested in many
different fields such as magic and saints. He is continuously trying to expand his knowledge to
hopefully be able to better interpret who he is. ...I wanted to argue about everything, expand

Symposium Chapter Summary
This chapter talks mainly about the importance of the periodic table and discusses some of the
stories behind some unique and important elements, along with interesting scientific discoveries.
Chapter 1 really intrigued me, and I wasn t expecting that. Even after I read the back of the book
summary, I still reluctantly started reading. However, I don t regret it now because this bookis pretty
fascinating.
After reading the first half or so of this chapter, I bought Symposium by Plato, which was
mentioned. It seemed like a neat read, and I feel like it would make me a little more cultured by
reading something that old. Plato is mentioned because of his theories about forms and ideal types,
and those theories really seemed cool to me. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Rather than going into further detail of the actual looks and characteristics of the periodic table, he
focused on describing the interesting people that built the table into what it is now. Kean talks
about Robert Bunsen along with some other scientists that Bunsen taught. I really enjoyed how he
introduced the chemists that Robert Bunsen taught by giving the relationship between Bunsen and
them.
However, Kean also shares the stories behind other chemists such as Meyer, Lecoq de
Boisbaudran (his major rival), as well as chemists related to the Ytterby mining discoveries.
After sharing the history behind Europe s booming production of porcelain and the discovery of
the precious material, he moves on to the discovery of the gaps in Mendeleev s table, being the
lanthanides. For me, this chapter was pretty interesting because I had no idea about how the buns
on burner was created and I definitely had no idea he also created the spectroscope. Another cool
fact is that Mendeleev was very stubborn in his beliefs to the point that the facts were changed so
he could keep his table the

Raiders Of The Lost Ark Film Analysis Essay
Raiders of the Lost Ark The film Raiders of the Lost Ark was directed by Steven Spielberg in 1981.
It is the first film in a series of films that follow the adventures of archaeologist and professor
Indiana Jones. Some proclaim the Raiders of the Lost Ark is one of the best action/adventure
movies of all time. Since its release, the film has grossed $389 million worldwide and is ranked #40
on the top rated movies list on IMDB.
Mise en Scene:
Raiders of the lost Ark takes place in 1936. When comes down to the settings, lighting, music,
costumes and the way everyone acts in this film, everything works together to get an overall feel
that the time really is the 1936. The costumes look like outfits people would really wear during that
time and the music sounds right for that era.
In the very beginning of the film, viewers see Indiana Jones walking through the jungle with some
men. Although his face is not shown for the first couple of minutes you can tell that the man in
the fedora is an important character. It s never specifically mentioned that it is a jungle but there
are animal noises and plants in the background. Also, the lighting looks natural almost as if the
sun is shining through a thick canopy of trees. All the men look a little tired and their faces and
clothes look dirty. From the way the music sounds and the way they all look you can tell that they
are on some kind of quest, searching for something for what seems like a while.
One of the best scenes in the

Shipwreck at the Bottom of the World is a fictional book, written by Jennifer Armstrong. It tells
the true and extraordinary tale of the Imperial Trans Antarctic Expedition, led by Sir Ernest
Shackleton 1914 17. All of the men worked extremely hard to get back home alive, but three men
stood out the most. Those three men are: Sir Ernest Shackleton, Frank Worsley, and Tom Crean.
These men were definitely the most essential to the entire expedition, and took part in almost every
single task executed. Shackleton was the most essential part to the whole expedition. He is also

On May 25, 1914, Crean joined Shackleton s expedition as a second officer, with a varied range
of duties. Crean had been on two previous journey s with Shackleton, and Shackleton trusted
him. Tom Crean, another Irishman and a tough sailor, had also been south with Shackleton
before, and proudly wore Britain s snow white Polar Medal on his jacket. (pg 7). Crean was also
in charge of one of the dog teams, and he later took care of the pups, that one of his dogs
produced rather early in the expedition. There were six dog teams for the overland journey to
be made once Endurance got under way again. The drivers were: James McIlory and Alexander
Macklin, the two doctors; Frank Hurley, the photographer; Frank Wild, Shackleton s loyal
second in command; Tom Crean, the Antarctic veteran; and George Marston, the expedition
artist. (29). Tom Crean made a miniature sled for his puppies, and Worsley described their first
attempt at pulling. Crean put his 4 pups in harness for the first time... their howls of terror
resound for miles around... they pursue a devious and uncertain course... and they flounder and
puff and pant along through the snow until to their joy they are headed for the ship and for a
few minutes drag thee hated sledge as fast as a dog team. (pg 37). Crean also took charge of the
Stancomb Wills, on the way to Elephant Island. Crean and Hubert Hudson, the navigating
officer of the Endurance, piloted their lifeboat with Crean effectively in charge as Hudson
appeared to have suffered a breakdown. (Alexander, pg 127). Once they had finally reached
Elephant Island, Crean was one of the men ordered to go find a safe camping ground, because he
was one of the four fittest men . Frank Wild, who would be in command of the party remaining on
Elephant Island, wanted the dependable Crean to stay with him; (Alexander, pg 127) Shackleton
initially agreed, but changed his mind after Crean begged to be included

Comparing Plato s Meno And Socrates
In Plato s Meno, the characters Socrates and Meno are introduced as Socrates being a teacher and
Meno being a young aristocrat. Meno questioned Socrates on whether virtue is teachable, acquired
through practice, or is natural. Socrates replied that he knows not what virtue is, so if he does not
know, how could he know what qualities it possess. Meno jumped at the opportunity to define virtue
to Socratesbut each definition is refuted. Meno and Socrates failed to reach an agreement on a
definition. Meno, however, raised an important question during this debate and this sparked an
interesting discussion. His question was, And how will you enquire, Socrates, into that which you
do not know? What will you put forth as the subject of enquiry? And if you find what you want,
how will you ever know that this is the thing which you did not know? (80e, Plato) In other words,
he s asking Socrates how he knows what definition he s looking for if he does not know the
qualities virtue possess as he previously stated. At the time Meno rightfully seemed skeptical about
the concept of virtue because it appeared to be very paradoxical to him. Meno believed it was...

recollected in the future and applied to the knowledge that is about to be acquired. Learning and
recollection go hand in hand, as one typically remembers what they have learned in the pass when
acquiring new knowledge. Meno is skeptical of this theory and asks Socrates to show him what he

Beta Alanine Essay
Beta alanine (BA), only recently, has rapidly become one of the most popular performance
enhancing compounds in the world. Since the first human study in 2006, BA is commonly found
in most popular pre workout supplements on the market today (Trexler, et al., 2015). BA is a
naturally occurring amino acid produced in the liver. BA is also contained in animal proteins such
as turkey and beef, and therefore can be increased somewhat through the consumption of animal
protein. Significant increases, however, require various means of supplementation. Beta alanine has
been cited as a rate limiting precursor to carnosine synthesis (Harris, et al., 2006). BA
supplementation has been shown to increase levels of carnosine in skeletal muscle.... Show more

Additional roles of carnosine beyond Ca2+ regulation and pH buffer include its ability to act as a
scavenger of free radicals and singlet oxygen, both of which are not only damaging, but also limit
performance (Kohen, et al.,1988). Regarding BA supplementation and administration, there has
been some opposing views on which means of supplementation is most beneficial. Some research
suggests that BA is most effective when front loaded. Consuming 4 to 6g per day, preferably with
meals has demonstrated the maximum desired effect, with more significant benefits seen after four
weeks (Harris, et al., 2009; Stegen, et al., 2013). Some clinicians, however, maintain that oral
administration is minimally effective. A 2016 study by Sharpe, Macias demonstrated a definite
improvement in performance in short duration, high intensity exercise by athletes using a topical
gel to administer carnosine transdermally. The study does maintain that more testing does need to
be done, however, brings up scientific reasons why oral ingestion may be less efficient due to GI
damage to the supplement. The purpose of this literature review is to provide insight into the
effects of beta alanine in performance. The research demonstrates that BA ingestion is, in fact,
beneficial to athletic performance, with a significant portion of data showing it is more efficient in
shorter duration, moderate to high intensity activities lasting 60 to 240 seconds specifically.

  • 3. Pabl Neruda In every person, a self which interacts with the world appears to live. However, what can one truly classify as their persona? Cognitive scientist Bruce Hood defines illusion as, [the] experience of something that is not what it seems. By this denotation, he classifies the ego as illusory; humans naturally experience it, but it does not actually exist. Accordingly, in Pablo Neruda s The Egoist, Neruda contrasts personal identity with the natural world, deeming abandoning one s individuality a necessary step to obtaining lasting satisfaction with existence. Neruda conveys his idea as a physician would a diagnosis; first identifying the problem s nature, then outlining its effects and solution. The Egoist s first stanzas portray the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Defending his controversial position concerning ego, the Egoist asks, What can I do if every movement / of my hand brought me closer to the rose (35 36)? Here, Neruda characterizes the self as straining and limiting via metaphor: the Egoist s futile hand movements bringing him closer to the rose reflect his attempts to resist the truth leading to uncovering his actual nature. Then, once again reflecting the first stanza, the Egoist notes, This day equal to all others / descends the stairs that do not exist / dressed in irresistible purity (45 47). He thus satirizes separateness as a concept by expressing a ridiculous scenario: a single day, naturally equal to all others, attempting to place itself above other days by descending nonexistent stairs. Thus, he corroborates human delusion, trying to place oneself above nature s whole. And, once again, Neruda characterizes the ego, but through a different perspective. He explicitly notes its deceptive purity, which allures its victims before corrupting them as portrayed in the third stanza. Finally, in the poem s final sentence, the Egoist ponders, [If] I breathe my own air, / why will I feel wounded to death? (50 51), exemplifying the self s dangers. If one breathes their own air, ignoring their unity with life, their unnatural behavior will wound them because the self creates nonexistent conflicts. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 7. How To Teach Literacy When it comes to teaching literacy, there can be some confusion because there are several things this one little word encompasses. Literacy has long been known as the ability to read and write but it has recently expanded to include things like computer literacy and competence of other things as well. For most, the process of becoming literate begins in early childhood. It starts by parents and siblings and sometimes even babysitters, nannies or teachers who speak to and around an individual, introducing them to the language of their people. Sometimes this talking to takes place in the form of reading aloud, which is a great way to instill a love of reading, but still does not teach the child how to read. In teaching literacy, there ... • 8. Tess of the D Urbervilles Essay Tess of the D Urbervilles was first published in 1891 to mixed reviews. The book is about the character Tess and it is a haunting and tragic tale set in England in the Victorian times in around about the mid 1800 s. The book was intially turned down by publishers because the story included seduction and illegitimate birth. In the book Hardy uses a lot of symbolism, some of which foreshadows the events that occur later in the story. Tess s world is rural Wessex where agriculture was the most important industry. The story contains many rustic characters which are linksback to Hardy s own life; the rustic characters are friendly and understanding and do not judge other people as much as the aristocratic chracters. It ws put up in wuld times by the relations of a malefactor who was tortured there by nailing his hands to a post and afterwards hung. the bones lie underneath. They say he sold his soul to the devil, and that he walks at times , this foreshadows when she is hung at the end of the book. Another use of symobolism is used late in the book where Tess and Angel are at stonehenge, But Tess, really tired by this time, flung herself upon an oblong slab that lay close at hand, and was sheltered from the wind by a pillar , some people speculate that ritualized funerary processions where held at stonehenge which could foreshadow her coming death or this could be a reference to sacrifice, and the stone of sacrifice midway . Also when Tess spends a night in the woods she is described like she is hiding and there is also the story of the deer, this is foreshadowing to when she becomes a wanted criminal and is hunted by the authorities, It is no use, sir, he said. • 9. Developmental Theories in Juno Essay The movie Juno is not only an excellent representation of film and the creative process coming together to create characters and a story that draws in the audience and allows them to invest themselves in the lives of the characters, but it is also an excellent example of the developmental process. This is because the movie reflects not only the development of its protagonist Juno MacGuff and her emotional growth and development, but also her physical development throughout her pregnancy. Juno begins with the adolescent protagonist, sixteen year old Juno MacGuff, realizing that her one night stand with her friend and long time crush, Paulie Bleeker, has resulted in her being pregnant. The arising conflict, which puts extra strain on Mark s relationship with Vanessa, who is so sure in her desire to have a child, results in their separation and the falling apart of what seemed such a perfect solution to Juno s predicament. Mark and Vanessa s separation hits Juno especially hard, because in her helpless situation Mark and Vanessa s seemingly perfect situation not only grounded her but gave her hope, as her birth parent s divorce and the dysfunctional relationship between her father and stepmother seem to give her no hope for happiness now or later in life. As Juno s pregnancy reaches full term her faith in others and relationships is restored when she realizes that Vanessa s desire and love for her unborn child makes her more than suitable to be the mother of her child, which also gives her the courage to express her true feelings for her friend Paulie. The movie ends on an inspirational and hopeful note, with Juno having a healthy baby boy whom Vanessa willingly and lovingly accepts, and Juno and Paulie entering into a healthy and stable relationship. After watching the movie with some knowledge of the process of growth and development, the role that Bronfenbrenner s, Piaget s, and Erickson s theories played in Juno s development. Compounds like benzophenon, thiobenzophenone and selenobenzophenone are some fulvalenes that contain Oxygen, Sulfur and Selenium. The preparation of those compounds is different for each one, however, benzophenone can be the counteract to synthesise the others. A fulvalene is a hydrocarbon obtained by formally cross conjugating two rings through a common exocyclic double bond. The name is derived from the similarly structured fulvenes which lack one ring. The fulvalene molecule is interesting as an example of a conjugated hydrocarbon for which only dipolar resonance structures can be written, apart from the basic neutral structure, and it has... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Acetonitrile was the solvent of choice, as it showed optimal performance in the selective epoxidation of functionalized alkenes with TBHP. In such solvent, the primary product of the reaction observed at short reaction times was the corresponding trans stilbene epoxide (3), as expected. This product is due to epoxidation of the C C double bond catalyzed by titanium(IV) centers in the presence of alkyl hydroperoxides and such behavior is fully consistent with several previous observations. In addition, thanks the use of anhydrous TBHP, the reaction proceeded mainly following a heterolytic oxidation pathway and hence with a good selectivity to the desired epoxide. However, at longer reaction times (72 h), the reaction proceeded further and the major observed product was surprisingly benzophenone (5). Even if thiobenzophenone is quite stable, although it photoxidizes in air to form benzophenone and sulfur. Thiobenzophenone is deep blue and dissolves readily in many organic solvents. One of the first reported syntheses of thiobenzophenone involves the reaction of sodium hydrosulfide(2equal) and benzophenone dichloride. However, in the reaction scheme of the second method, a mixture of gaseous hydrogen chloride and hydrogen sulfide are passed into a cooled solution of benzophenone in ethanol. Questions On Design Of Technical Systems Essay Isaac Mathew Pavoodath USC ID 8834875144 AME 503 Paper Study 2 INTRODUCTION As specified in the paper Complexity in Design of Technical Systems, an exact definition to the meaning of the word complexity is a matter of debate and discussion. It is not to be mistaken for anything but the complexity involved while designing or modifying a technical system or rather an engineering system. The paper is vigorous in mentioning the existence of two main complexities that needs special attention dawned upon them while designing the system viz. inborn complication and acquired complication. Inborn complications are dictated by the customer needs that have been considered for the design, they may not be varied or dealt with as stated by Nam Pyo Suh however the sphere of influence of the designer is within the reaches of the acquired complexity. Acquired complexity may be kept to a minimal low if the designer of the system carefully understands the inter relations, functional dependency and the physical probabilities involved, but at the same time the inborn complication should also be kept at its lowest possible level based on Customer Requirements (CR). It is most likely that the readers get confused between Suh s Axiomatic Design Theory and Complexity Theory , although they seem to be intertwined into each other s concepts it is obvious through deeper study that the former focuses on functional dependency and the later primarily on physical probability UNDERSTANDING ... History.com, A E Television Networks, 2009, www.history.com/topics/columbine high school shootings. 27 November 2017 The source from history.com describes the Columbine incident by Dylan Klebold and Eric Harris. They killed twelve students and a teacher with semiautomatic guns. Then when the SWAT team arrived at the school at around 3:00 PM, the dead bodies of the gunmen were found in the school. The gunmen committed suicide at around noon and twenty three injured students were evacuated out of the school and into the hospital. Following the incident, an investigation was done on the motives of the shooters. It was suspected that the gunmen primarily targeted athletes, minorities and Christians. It was reported that a student Cassie Bernall was shot to death because she said she believed in god when asked by one of the gunmen. However, it was later determined that the shooters randomly chose their targets and had intended on bombing the cafeteria to potentially take hundreds of lives. Thankfully, the bombs never went off. It was discovered the Klebold and Harris regularly played DOOM, which was the most violent video gameat the time. Methanol Alcohol And Ethanol Lab The main purpose of this lab is to determine whether or not the number of carbon molecules relate to the amount of energy emitted measured through the temperature change over the course of 2 minutes. The main three tested fuels are fuels methanol (CH3OH), ethanol (C2H5OH), propanol (C3H7OH). Based on those formulas, Propanol alcohol has 3 carbons, Ethanol alcohol has 2 carbons and methanol has 1 carbon. Based on the hypothesis mentioned above If the number of Carbon molecules in the fuel increases, the amount of energy over 2 minutes is going to increase . This is the only logical way to minimize the possibility of accidents or loss of firearms. Buying a safe however, is not always a straightforward process. You need to first familiarize with a couple of recommendations, regulations and marketing techniques in order to make an informed choice. Let us briefly take a look at what to look for in a gun safeas detailed under the following 7 questions. 1.What is the right gun safe capacity to go for? Something you may not be aware of is that gun safe manufacturers have a habit of bragging about the large number of guns they can squeeze into their safes. Unfortunately, what may be advertised as high capacity ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... That is why safes made of concrete amalgamates and steel are ranked as the most reliable. But at the same time, some RSC gun safes are light yet still categorized as reliable. Are they really safe? Well, yes because modern technology has enabled manufacturers to maximize on available resource to build lighter yet effective units. The best way to determine if a safe is worth its weight is by comparing its height weight ratio. For instance a 60 inch tall gun safe (RSC) can weigh anywhere between 500 and 800 lbs. Anything below 300 lbs would be questionable. 5.What Quality Of Steel Is Used? Steel is usually the most valuable component of a safe as it provides resilient burglary protection and withstands damage remarkably. However, there are some cases where manufacturers produce substandard steel and use it to make commercial gun safes. Some use misleading tactics such as thick robust doors but what they don t tell you is that only a thin part of this door is actually made of steel. Others even boast of providing 2 inch of steel thick walls only to use a 14 gauge piece of steel combined with layers of drywall. The recommended minimum guidelines of steel usage are as follows. *Door Outer Sheet Should be at least 7 gauge. The dichotomy between the State and religion has been at the forefront of society since the dawn of civilization. The common ideologies of the American government, as we know them today, indicate that the State is neutral with respect to the normal values, religious beliefs, and/or ways of life held by its leaders, laws, and citizens alike. Although leaders may hold true to a certain religion and may hold personal morals, it is not necessary to set aside their religious beliefs in order to create a neutral society. In the following, this classification in point. a)Smart Metering: Smart metering is the mainly important mechanism used in the Smart Grid for obtaining information from end users devices and appliances, while also controlling the performance of the devices. Automatic metering infrastructure (AMI) systems, which are themselves built upon automatic meter reading (AMR) systems, are broadly regarded as a sound strategy to realize Smart Grid. AMR is the technology of routinely collecting analytical, expenditure, and status data from energy metering devices and transferring that data to a central database for billing, troubleshooting, and analyzing. AMI differs from traditional AMR in that it enables two way communications with the meter. So almost all of this information is available in real time and on demand, allowing for better system operations and customer power demand organization. b) Smart meters, which carry two way communications amid the meter and the central system, are like in many aspects to AMI meters, or occasionally are regarded as part of the AMI. A smart meter is typically an electrical meter that records use in intervals of an hour or less and sends that information at least every day back to the utility for monitoring and billing purposes. The living cells of speciesprovide a world of opportunity, health, and life. Over the last one hundred years, the population of endangered specieshas drastically risen. With the inadequate decisions regarding living species, the rate of endangered and threatened species will continue to increase. Through many different developments, species can be considered endangered or threatened and this condition can result from a multitude of factors and direct effects to the species. Groups, services, and organizations work together to protect these species through conservation practices and government assistance. Species can be sorted into various categories. An endangered species is an animal, plant, or another organism that is initially threatened and could potentially become extinct. All species are important to the world and surrounding environment. These organisms provide medicinal properties for society, help filter air and water, and provide the community with a plentiful supply of resources, including clothing and food ( Endangered Species ). Any species that crawls, walks or roams the earth can be pushed towards a level of endangerment. Once a species is considered threatened or endangered in an ecosystem, groups of scientists and biologists analyze the situation and classify the organism into the correlating category. Researchers calculate the population size and growth rates, along with popular trends within the species. After initial observations and research, the endangered species is classified into one of three groups: nationally critical, nationally endangered, or nationally vulnerable ( Conservation Status of Plants and Animals ). Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In 1997 to 2008, the cost of goods sold changed due to a decline in the rounds of golf being played, which caused equipment sales to decline as well. This would also directly effect of the supplies of raw material. 5). Competitive pressures that stem from the different golf equipment retailers. There are competition with on course pro shops, off course pro shops, and online golf retailers. * Driving Forces The driving forces in the golfing industry that is the major underlying causes of change, is 1). Marketing innovation. The golfing industry needs to find a way to spark the consumers interest back into the golfing game. The number of rounds played per year declined from 2007 to 2008 by nearly 9 million rounds. Since about 30 percent of golfers say that they stopped playing because the fees to play a round of golf are too costly, there should be a decrease in golfing fees. 2). Changes in who buys the product and how they use it. The golfing industry should target a younger age group of golfers. The decline in golfers took place among golfers who were married with children, and older golfers who were retired but had health concerns and injuries. The golfing industry needs to make equipment, apparel and golf in itself more appealing so that the decline experienced will start to bring a different crowd in as consumers. 3) Changes in cost and efficiency.

However, it becomes clear that she is exaggerating her loss and the preventive measures she could have taken. By citing radical changes that would have been necessary to prevent the occurrence, she makes it clear that it is very difficult for a woman to escape men. (Pope IV. 150) she implies regret at having spent time at Hampton Court and her actions there. This lock may symbolize her virginity, which indeed was of great pride and value to women of the day. • 43. Lying, By Jeremy Bentham I am going to argue why lying is immoral no matter who you might be lying to, friends, family, and even someone you do not know. This is immoral because even though lying to someone may bring relief or happiness it s still hiding the truth from that person. Hiding something they deserve to know even though it may hurt them may also be a form of lying. There are many situations where lying may end friendships, relationships, or even tare families apart because most people want to know the truth no matter how harsh, because eventually the truth may come out. In addition to hiding information, there are also other forms of lying. Telling someone false information as well as withholding information are forms of lying. The worst part about telling a lie is that the more you do it the more comfortable one may become. Lying becomes a habit to many people, a habit they have a hard time breaking. Lying can simply be defined in one word, deception. Jeremy Bentham who is a British philosopher in the 1700 s and early 1800 s believed in the principle of utility otherwise known as utilitarianism. Jeremy Bentham thinks it s permissible to tell a small lie because in the long run Bentham is looking for the ultimate amount of happiness. Multiple technological advances have been made, and many of them have been made for the purpose of war. A very common technological advance in relation to war is guns, but there is no gun like the CIA s (Central Intelligence Agency) 1970 s Heart Attack Gun. According to Kurt Nimmo of Info Wars, at the point when the heart assault firearm is shot at an individual, the fatal poison from the bullet rapidly enters the circulatory system causing a myocardial infarction. The toxic substance denatures rapidly, so a post mortem is unable to determine the cause of the cardiac arrest. The dart from this complex CIA weapon can penetrate garments and leave only a small red spot on the skin, like that of a mosquito bite. The toxic dart disintegrates to its aggregate in the wake of entering the target. We all know what the purpose of a firearm is, even on the battlefield, but imagine being able to play war off of the battlefield and without arising suspicion. Imagine taking out your enemy without having to be held accountable for it. Well those are the implications of a gun with this much power. The World Is A Dangerous Place In the words of Albert Einstein The world is a dangerous place to live; not because of the people who are evil, but because of the people who don t do anything about it. The importance of these words and the desire to pursue my Master degree in Science in Global Studies and International Relations came to me as an epiphany, while roaming the streets of Brazil. After a decade of working as a nuclear engineer, at one of the world s leading nuclear instrumentation companies, I have encountered numerous issues such as nuclear waste disposable, non proliferation, and energy independence. It is through these efforts that, I have come to realize that the greatest impediment to solving these problems is often the labyrinth of political hurdles and deciphering the technical implications of government standards. As an engineer, my world has been framed by logical assessments and conclusions. I was brought up and taught to think critically, analyze, and solve problems. I have been living in a microsphere of the nuclear industry and have come to the realization that the true solution to a problem often lies not only in science but in diplomacy. For example, a university in Egypt wanted to buy a monitor. As each line is metrically linked, the words are further recited in a durable voice and the poem is virtually put together, musically. In the first and second lines of the third stanza, an apostrophe, a figure of speech that directly addresses an absent person or entity, is presented, We smile, but O great Christ, our cries to thee from tortured souls arise. Alliteration and metaphors are two major elements of this poem. The repetition of consonant sounds and alliteration occurs throughout the poem. All of the lines strongly use the repetition of consonants and alliteration except for lines two and seven. In addition to that, the controlling figure of speech in this poem is a metaphor. It is strongly articulated in the first line, and as the one continues to read, it is amplified and extended throughout the rest of the poem. The metaphor compares mask of Line 1 to the fabricated emotive facades that African Americans had made use of in order to avert provoking their oppressors. Socrates replied that he knows not what virtue is, so if he does not know, how could he know what qualities it possess. Meno jumped at the opportunity to define virtue to Socratesbut each definition is refuted. Meno and Socrates failed to reach an agreement on a definition. Meno, however, raised an important question during this debate and this sparked an interesting discussion. His question was, And how will you enquire, Socrates, into that which you do not know? What will you put forth as the subject of enquiry? And if you find what you want, how will you ever know that this is the thing which you did not know? (80e, Plato) In other words, he s asking Socrates how he knows what definition he s looking for if he does not know the qualities virtue possess as he previously stated. At the time Meno rightfully seemed skeptical about the concept of virtue because it appeared to be very paradoxical to him. Meno believed it was... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He began by using the example of one s soul. Socrates says that your soul will live on forever and it cannot be destroyed or damaged unlike your body, immortal. He believed that your soul was present during the previous generations and it will be present in the generations to come. He even says your soul has been born often and has seen all things...there is nothing which it has not learned (81d, Plato). In other words, the lessons learned in the past stay forever and they are recollected in the future and applied to the knowledge that is about to be acquired. Learning and recollection go hand in hand, as one typically remembers what they have learned in the pass when acquiring new knowledge. Meno is skeptical of this theory and asks Socrates to show him what he ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 55. The Importance Of Weather In Florida When many people look at Florida, they tend to think of the hotness of the water as they entered the beaches; as well as the clubs that are right across the street from these beaches. They don t tend to remember the bipolar weather that comes into play as they cross that Georgia to Florida line. Florida although bipolar in its weatherpatterns, has become a very popular tourist destination and retirement spot for millions of Americans. But, little do they know, Florida is not what it is cracked up to be. Although Florida s weather is very hot; but we do have very much rain. In fact, the state has the highest number of thunderstorms in the U.S. Average rainfall, for most of the state is between 50 and 60 inches from water (Florida Traveler ... • 56. Beta Alanine Essay Beta alanine (BA), only recently, has rapidly become one of the most popular performance enhancing compounds in the world. Since the first human study in 2006, BA is commonly found in most popular pre workout supplements on the market today (Trexler, et al., 2015). BA is a naturally occurring amino acid produced in the liver. BA is also contained in animal proteins such as turkey and beef, and therefore can be increased somewhat through the consumption of animal protein. Significant increases, however, require various means of supplementation. Beta alanine has been cited as a rate limiting precursor to carnosine synthesis (Harris, et al., 2006). BA supplementation has been shown to increase levels of carnosine in skeletal muscle.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Additional roles of carnosine beyond Ca2+ regulation and pH buffer include its ability to act as a scavenger of free radicals and singlet oxygen, both of which are not only damaging, but also limit performance (Kohen, et al.,1988). Regarding BA supplementation and administration, there has been some opposing views on which means of supplementation is most beneficial. Some research suggests that BA is most effective when front loaded. Consuming 4 to 6g per day, preferably with meals has demonstrated the maximum desired effect, with more significant benefits seen after four weeks (Harris, et al., 2009; Stegen, et al., 2013). Some clinicians, however, maintain that oral administration is minimally effective. A 2016 study by Sharpe, Macias demonstrated a definite improvement in performance in short duration, high intensity exercise by athletes using a topical gel to administer carnosine transdermally. The study does maintain that more testing does need to be done, however, brings up scientific reasons why oral ingestion may be less efficient due to GI damage to the supplement. The purpose of this literature review is to provide insight into the effects of beta alanine in performance. The research demonstrates that BA ingestion is, in fact, beneficial to athletic performance, with a significant portion of data showing it is more efficient in shorter duration, moderate to high intensity activities lasting 60 to 240 seconds specifically. ...
