North American Free Trade ( Nafta ) And The International...
Ever since organizations and agreements like the North American Free Trade (NAFTA) and the
International Monetary Fund (IMF) were created around the end of World War 2 to supposedly help
the Third World nations to establish better economies and governments, they have only done more
harm than good for these nations. These third world countries end up becoming exploited and
extorted, forced to become dependent on the big international organizations like the IMF because of
the exorbitant interest rates charged on them, thus they remain forever in debt. The accumulation of
debt then allows the IMF to have more voice over how the indebted countries should be shaped and
how they should run their economy. What ends up happening then is that their ... Show more content

Because of such policies, many women end up struggling at home and eventually, in desperation, they
end up leaving home to find work elsewhere. First, let us examine how economic policies like the
structural adjustment policies implemented by the IMF affect a country. A great example of this is
detailed in Ault and Sandberg s Our Policies, Their Consequences , where both authors explore how
seriously the structural adjustment policies changed the economic state in Zambia. As these authors
point out, the terms of the loans reflect the economic and political interests and values of the world s
wealthiest nations (470) . It is seen here already that that does not bode well for Zambia. One clearly
can see that globalization is just another way first world nations still colonize the world, but instead
through means of economic and trade conquests. Now, the article continues on to talk about the kind
of changes that the IMF implemented on Zambia: they wanted them to devalue their currency and stop
supporting many domestic programs, social welfare programs, and fire federal employees and instead
they wanted them to focus on increasing their exports for the global market. And what are changes
without its consequences? Because the IMF favored the growth of international markets, the local
economy in Zambia suffered greatly. Devalued

Communication For Effective Leadership Communication
I have appreciated and enjoyed the opportunity to take Communication for Effective Leadership over
the last eight weeks. I have learned such valuable information pertaining to effective communication
inside and outside of the workplace that will be useful in my future endeavors. This letter is intended
as a summary of 3 areas of my own leadership communication development that have been enhanced
during the course of this class.
The first element of my leadership communication that has been affected is my overall awareness of
the importance of understanding how important written and oral communication is in the workplace.
Prior to taking this course I did not understand that the most important skill in the workplace was
communication. I

Apple s First Macintosh Commercial
On December 31st of 1983 an eccentric commercial was introduced, challenging other companies and
awaking people all over the country. It has been more than 30 years and people are still talking about
Apple s first Macintosh commercial. Companies use commercials to show the audience that their
products are worth buying like Apple did in its first Macintosh commercial. By using themes from
George Orwell s 1984, Apple was able to speak volumes about its product without showing or
describing it. Apple visualizes its self as the hero that will save the world and people believed it. Most
of us now own an Apple brand. This advertisement is an effective ad because it contains a valuable
message that was provided to the viewer by using contrasting visuals and it is about awakening the
people and breaking the chains of similarity and loving to be different. Yet, it is ironic because Apple
has become one of the most controlling companies in our society. In the complex mysterious 1984
commercial of Apple Mac that definitely needs a second thought before being understood, everything
is grey at the beginning. People marching down the tunnel, wearing all grey with their heads shaved
and their identity lost. Then we notice an athletic girl with red shorts contrasting the grey atmosphere
that was created at the beginning of the advertisement. And we also visualize a man in a big blue
screen giving a speech and everyone is listening to him. Then the girl throws a hammer on the big
screen

Essay about Importance of Language in Richard Wright s...
The Importance of Language in Black Boy
Richard Wright s novel Black Boy is not only a story about one man s struggle to find freedom and
intellectual happiness, it is a story about his discovery of language s inherent strengths and
weaknesses. And the ways in which its power can separate one soul from another and one class from
another. Throughout the novel, he moves from fear to respect, to abuse, to fear of language in a cycle
of education which might be likened to a tumultuous love affair.
From the very beginning of the novel we see young Richard realize the power of language when he
follows his father s literal directions and kills a cat he has befriended(12). Although he knows that this
is not really what ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Although his love of language is soon reinforced when Ella reads him the wonderful story of
Bluebeard and His Seven Wives(44), he is severely rebuked for it which proves to him again that
language can be dangerous. He says that his response to the story Ella reads him is an emotional
response (47), and that it carries a sharp, frightening, and almost painful excitement (48) with it. This
gives him further respect for language and its power. At the same time it again brings fear, because his
aunt tells him that novels are the Devil s work.
This fear stays with him through the next few years. So much so that he cannot even write his name on
the blackboard. When he raises his arm to write his name, his mind goes blank and empty he cannot
even remember his name at this point, much less write it. He continues to ignore in language that
which he does not like, does not understand, or does not agree with. He uses its power sparingly:
writing letters to relatives when his mother is sick, and reading only sporadically, until a new job
teaches him that ignorance of language does not work in his interests either. When he is selling
newspapers that he has not been reading, he is advised by an older black man that he should read what
he is selling. It seems impossible that in all the time he has been selling these papers he has not yet
read one of them, and so one must believe that he has unconsciously been ignoring the

Health And Social Care Chapter 2 Summary
The material presented in Chapters 2 and 3 are related in the sense that they intertwine with each
other. In Chapter 2, the main focus is the social gradient and stress levels. The lower on the social
gradient a person is the higher the stress level is and the more risk that person is at for health
conditions. This can lessen health of the future generations. Chapter 3 is wrapped in here. It is where
life is decided at the fetus or young age stage. Meaning the health of an individual is decided at an
early stage. If a mother is on the low end of the social gradient and has high levels of stress during a
pregnancy, the fetus is effected by the mother s health. Leading into the child growing up in the same
spot of the social gradient and having

Water Flow of Flouride
First of all, naturally fluoridated water has fluorine levels of approximately 0.4 mg/L, while artificially
fluoridated water can have levels up to 1.0mg/L. This long term ingestion of excess fluorine can lead
to fluorosis which may negatively impact teeth and bones. Dental fluorosis occurs during tooth
development. Teeth are mostly composed of hydroxylapatite, which is a mineral form of calcium.
When intake of fluoride increases, it also increases apatite content, creating white streaks and in more
serious cases cause mottling of teeth. In addition, fluoride levels in breast milk are around 0.004mg/L.
Therefore, infants who drink baby formula with fluoridated water will be exposed to 300 times more
fluoride, increasing the risk of developing dental fluorosis. Skeletal fluorosis is another disease in
which fluoride accumulates in the bone for several years. Early symptoms of skeletal fluorosis may be
forms of arthritis such as osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis which are joint pains and stiffness. In
more severe cases, the bone can calcify, which is the conversion of soft bone tissue into hard and
insoluble calcium compounds. This can lead to muscle and joint impairment. (WHO) For over 40
years, U.S health organizations have claimed that skeletal fluorosis will not develop unless an
individual intake 10 20mg/L of fluoride every day. However, studies in India and China shows that a
person can have skeletal fluorosis with levels of 0.7 1.5mg/L. Fluoride can also impact

The Argument
Abstract
My father always told me that Nothing in life is free . For years I have always been weary when I was
told something was free. I would have to double check and ask the question Am I really getting this
for nothing . Most of the time the answer was; No . The first time I remember dealing with this was
buying my first car. It was a beautiful 1993 Ford Explorer, jet black, low miles, and it had a great
stereo. The salesman had everything done and ready for me to sign. My father looked over the
contract and noticed a service fee hidden in the price. According to the salesman, all service for the
first three years I owned would be free. But of course the free service was paid ... Show more content

PlayStation 3 has been flawed since it launched; however it is by far the most powerful gaming
console on the market. Sony has attempted to fix all of the issues; however it has cost them dearly.
Game Developers have pulled out of exclusive deals with Sony, and sales of the system have been

The Impact Of Ancient Greek Theater And Tragedy

The Impact of Ancient Greek Theater and Tragedy Ancient Greek culture has influenced our modern
culture in many ways from philosophy to medicine to government. We still use many of their
concepts, technology, and even alphabet system. Without ancient Greece, our modern world would not
have advanced as far. A significant contribution of the ancient Greek culture to the world today is the
Greek theater, more specifically the structure of tragedy. Some contributions are the structure of
tragedy in modern literature, rise of opera, and the creation of the theater. Greek drama originally
started out as a ritual to honor the god of wine, Dionysus, by the cult of Dionysus. In the ritual, drunk
men dressed up in goat skin would sing and have dialogue in chorus to welcome the leader, the person
acting as Dionysus (Sayre 151). In these revel filled festivals, men dressed as satyrs, companions of
Dionysus who are half man and half goat, while the women dressed up as maenads, the immortal
followers of Dionysus. As the participants become drunk and filled with ecstasy, they transform into a
different identity from before. Later on this behavior became the satyr play, a form of Greek drama.
Tragedy is said to be originated from the Dionysian rites, where the name comes from tragoidos,
which means the goat song from the satyrs companions of Dionysus who are half man and half goat.
This could be in reference to the fact that Dionysus was also the

The Sampling Interval For The Current Clamps
The sampling interval for the current clamps can be changed depending on what we want to know. For
the air compressor we may log more frequently, for example every five seconds, if we find that the
compressor is switching mode very frequently, otherwise logging at 60 second intervals may be
enough. The purpose of the continuous measurement will also affect the logging interval. If the first
visit gives us the impression that the compressed air system is an important part of the energy use, we
may measure more carefully to have enough information to suggest detailed measures. The drawing of

(Table 3. Example of plan for energy measurements to allocate electricity use to unit processes.)
In this case we will have a measurement from a switchgear cabinet that covers several unit processes,
for example lighting and forklift charging for a garage and picking stock, as shown in Figure 8. The
data from clamp no. 1 in the switchgear must be complemented by simulta‐ neous measurements from
clamps 2 and 3 in the distribution board, where clamp 2 measures the total incoming current to the
Central Garage board and clamp 3 measures the outgoing current to the forklift chargers. Later, the
data from clamp 2 in the Central Garage distribution board can be subtracted from clamp 1 in the
switchgear to get a picture of the energy use in Central Picking Stock and Central Large Hall. At the
same time you have parallel measurements of the air compressor from clamp no 4. The clamp

Advantages Of English In Chinese Culture
The integration of aspects from other cultures in a culture is an example of culture hybridization; the
English language has been recently used in China regularly. English itself has been becoming a
worldwide language, about 300 million to 450 million people on Earth are native English speakers and
more than 1 billion people in total know how to speak English ( English as a Global Language ). In
China, English is taught in schools of all levels and individuals are even learning the language on their
leisure time. There are about 400 million learners of English just in China ( English Language
Teaching and Learning at the National Level in China 5). In lower education schools, such as primary
and secondary school, English is intensively taught and studied. English is one of the optional subjects
on a Chinese exam called China s National College Entrance Examine, which is similar to the SATs
taken by students in America (10). In postsecondary educationC or higher education, English is the
most in play in China (10). Anywhere on campus, one can see students conversing and studying
English. All higher education students are required to take 2 years of English regardless of their
majors and for English majors, 4 or more years of English are required (10). To incorporation of
English in Chinese culture can be identified as cultural hybridization.

Analysis Of The Movie Man On Wire
The movie, Man on Wire is a documentary about wire walker, Philippe Petit, who proves his
impossible, yet inspiring dream above the clouds between the World Trade Center s Twin Towers was
indeed possible. During this documentary, Petit magically walked and danced across a wire, leaving
the audience filled with suspense and extremely sweaty palms. This project, completed by James
Marsh, was truly a job well done, because of the way he has Petit narrate the documentary and how he
recounts the events that unfold. This film kept me on the edge of my seat the entire time because of
the way the events were revealed by cross cutting between flashbacks that explain to the audience a
little about what is going on, rushing towards the unfolding of the morning before the adventure.
Supplemental to the vast amount of historical footage in the film, Marsh uses several aesthetics of
realism such as voiceovers, on camera interviews, textual information on screen to display facts, mise
en scene, handheld cameras, natural lighting, existing footage, real people and diegetic sounds.
Throughout the film, the filmmaker s obvious goal is not only about telling a story about a man, but
more significantly about an overall attitude towards life that refuses to acknowledge limits and
boundaries. James Marsh tells this amazing and brave story using film techniques like existing
images, on camera interviewing, real people, and mise en scene that create a truth about the world; a
world where everything

The Politics Of Mexico And China
Mexico has been a democracy for close to 100 years, however, in practice, it is only now going
through a democratic transition (ONSF). The dislodging of an authoritarian political party from
presidency in 2000 made many optimistic about Mexico s move towards democracy. Similarly, China,
a fractured authoritarian state, has been showing increasing signs of democracy. Due to its economic
and political trends, many argue that China is well on its way towards becoming a democracy.
However, despite these trends, there is a problem in that the politics in both Mexico and China remain
riddled with corruption. This complex issue raises the question of why corruption persists in both
Mexico and China despite their movements towards democracy. This ... Show more content on

For over 70 years, Mexico was controlled by the PRI, an authoritarian regime that led with co option,
inclusion, and corruption (ONFS). A key element of their power was patron client relationships, in
which bureaucrats delivered services in exchange for support; in other words, bureaucratic corruption
was the norm. These relationships were allowed and perpetuated by weak governmental laws.
Although the PRI is no longer the dominating political party, the PRI maintains enormous power at
both state and local level (Carpenter). As a result, Mexico s government has put in little effort toward
improving the pseudo democratic foundations upon which its ability to rule was established. Instead of
reforming the structure of rule that promoted clientelism, they focused on keeping certain people out
of office (Corruption in Mexico). Because of this lack of reform, structures that allow old style
political machines are still effective, making corruption still common place. An example of a structural
flaw in the Mexican government is the law that prevents re election (ONFS). Although this practice
was recently reformed, without a chance at re election, political leaders often felt like they had nothing
to lose and were more likely to take bribes in exchange for political favors (Agren). The source of the
problem is that Mexico is still recovering from a system that was based on

Analytical Essay On Elie Wiesel s Book Thief
When we had to choose book for our literature circle discussion, we had an option to pick one book
out of six. I picked The book thief, because it looked very interesting and I never read it before.
Basically, Liesel was taken in foster family to start the new way of life. She moved from her town to
Molching, Germany, close to Munich. The book thief talks about struggles of German girl and her
foster family during the World War II.
When Liesel arrived to her new family, she was frequently called saumensch filthy pig. Her mom
called her like that all the time. And be quick about it, Saumensch (Shmoop) is just one of hundreds of
times when Liesel was called Saumensch. Shortly after Liesel moved to Molching, she found her best

The only person who survived was Liesel, because she was bored during the night time so she went to

Nobody informed people about allies coming, that s why they died when they were sleeping they did
not have a chance to hide in basement. Did they deserve any better, these people? How many had
actively persecuted others, high on the scent of Hitler s gaze, repeating his sentences, his paragraphs,
his opus? Was Rosa Hubermann responsible? The hider of a Jew? Or Hans? Did they all deserve to
die? The children? (Shmoop)
People who survived in other neighbourhoods went to the one where Liesel lived and they found her
in destroyed building. Everybody was surprised that she survived.
All in all, I liked this book a lot. First of all, it was hard to start reading it there was so many new
people and that s why I was confused a lot. Later in the book, it was hard to stop reading, because the
whole book was really interesting. There are short texts throughout the book they help a lot in some
confusing situations. Also, sometimes they explain some stuff more in depth. Overall, I liked this book
a lot and I would recommend it to anybody who likes history and breathtaking

Animal Imagery In Fairy Tales
Historiographical Essay Over time, historians have interpreted the use of animal imagery in western
folk and fairy tales as a means for providing entertainment and moral lessons to western society.
However, many historians have different ideas about how animal imagery and stereotypes actually
affect a society besides keeping away from wolves and bears and such. Dr. Jack Zipes, a professor of
German and comparative literature, promotes in his paper, What Makes a Repulsive Frog So
Appealing: Memetics and Fairy Tales, that the story of The Frog Prince is actually a story about the
strategies of mating and how the frog symbolizes its appearance of an unsuitable mate to a suitable
one. In addition to how specific animal stereotypes and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Whatever the minor variations, Zipes argues that there are elements that are the same throughout that
become the metaphors that strengthen his mating strategy theory. Starting at the beginning, the
princess is young and has reached puberty, most likely with her golden ball symbolizing her virginity
and purity. She brings out the ball to play with as a means of showing her availability and losing the
ball in the water is representing how she is testing out the waters for suitable mates. However, an
unsuitable mate, the frog, shows up and she rejects him. This rejection, Zipes argues, reflects the
rejection by women who were forced into arranged marriages by their fathers either based on
appearance, age, or wealth. However, the princess s father says she must do what the frog says, which
is to sleep in her bed, which further symbolizes the struggles of an arranged marriage. However, in the
1857 version of the tale, the princess throws the frog against the wall to show her sexual
independence, because she knows that she must bear an heir and that he will be an unsuitable mate
that will neither make her children healthy and strong of give them financial security. Through this
display of sexual independence, and the frog transforms into a handsome prince, becoming a more
suitable mate for the princess . In a contrasting point against the external conflict between human

To be a cheer captain, there are many responsibilities and priorities. To be a captain you have to be

not let the drama start on the team. You have to make sure your team is ready for games and practices
and make sure everyone knows what they are doing and if not to take it slowly until they get it. Being
a captain is a lot of responsibilities but it s an amazing opportunity. I think I am fit to be the captain,

and I understand that some people may not work well with others but I will try my hardest to make
sure nothing bad happens to the team and the people that make up the team, I will work on everyone
getting along with each other. To some people, leadership means to lead a group of people but in
cheerleading, and to me, it is so much more. In the community, on the sidelines, and even in school,
you are representing the team and the school you cheer for along with your reputation. You have to
work the hardest, encourage your team, always keep the smile going and stay positive. Even at or not
at practice or a sporting event you have to think of the team and how your actions will rely on the
team and affect the team, everyone relies on the leader. Being a cheerleader to me isn t just about
cheering on the football or basketball team. Cheerleading is more than that. Cheerleading is a group of
girls who have the passion and the trust with each other to catch them and trust that they will do their
part. Cheerleading are being a family and not being able to have your own space. Priorities of
cheerleading are; making your toes pointed, having a good attitude, making great facial expressions,
and having those little girls that look up to you, have a great role model. These are just some reasons

Animal Experimentation
The various experiments are performed on living animals especially to test the effects of chemical
compounds such as new drugs, cosmetics, food additives and pesticides. The application of animals to
test a large number of products from household compounds and cosmetics to pharmaceutical has been
considered to be a normal strategy for many years.
Animal experimentation has existed since ancient times and contributed to human life and survival.
The most radical progress in the health science has all been made possible by animal research. Thus,
animal experimentation is recognized and accepted as an important tool in saving lives.
Humans have been benefited from the health care developments that have been based on the benefits
of animal research and testing for many years. According to Fox Michael Virtually every medical
innovation of the last century and especially last four decades has been based to a significant extent
upon the results of animal experimentation. Surgery on animals has assisted in developing organ
transplant and open heart surgery. Animal testing has also helped in developing vaccine against
disease like rabies, polio, measles, mumps, rubella, and TB. Development of antibiotics, HIV drugs,
Insulin, and cancer treatments depend up on animal tests. Other testing methods are not advanced

Comparing Hammurapi s Laws And The Book Of Exodus
Goring Ox Law Many people do not realize how many laws people had to follow in the ancient east.
The Hammurapi s Laws and the readings from Exodus 21 23 have many similar qualities. But just like
everything else they can be analyzed differently when they are being compared. While throughout
both readings they talk about the goring ox law. And seeing how that one specific law can be viewed
differently it shows how unlike the two places were. In one place they were realizing how much God
does for them, and how he provides to them if they follow his laws or commandments. Whereas in the
other (around Hammurapi) location Hammurapi just talks about they are following the laws, and them
getting nothing in return. In the book of Exodus, it shows how ... Show more content on

For example, in The New Interpreter s Study Bible it shows just that If the ox has been accustomed to
gore in the past and its owner has been warned but has not restrained it, and it kills a man or a woman,
the ox should be stoned, and its owner shall be put to death. And that is the same in Hammurapi s
Laws as well. But what also is noticed is that if you have money you can pay off your death. As it is
stated in Exodus 20 40, the owner of that ox can pay for redemption If ransom is laid upon him (the
owner of the ox), he must pay whatever is laid upon him to redeem his life. The NRSV rendering ...
the owner shall pay whatever is imposed for the redemption of the victim s life. It does not seem right
because the victim is dead so the money should not count for it. But it goes into explaining that the
victims life is an interpretative addition. And throughout those two examples, you can see that the
owner of the ox is only penalized if he knows his ox is killing people. If he does not know that his ox
is killing people he does not get penalized or in other words put to death. Also, the ox is only killed if
the owner knows about it. If the authorities do not contact the owner then the ox lives. In the bible the
slave s lives are more valued then when they were killed

Airport Security Research
Need of better airport security methods
Background
On the morning of September 11th 2001 the United States was attacked by a series of coordinated
terrorist attacks and, as a result, thousands of people died that day. After that event took place, tens of
thousands of people came together to form a new agency called the Transportation Security
Administration, or TSA. Being passed on November 19th 2001, the TSA began taking charge of the
aviation security programs that were run by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), by training,
hiring, and deploying security forces to all of the commercial airports within 12 months and providing
100 percent screening to all luggage in search for any explosives by December 31, 2002.
Despite the effort to better protect our nations traveling security, the US has had potential terrorist
attacks through our airlines. People were able to bring unauthorized devices through the security
checkpoints, that we thought were reliable, undetected. Research has been done to the scanning
machines we use and they were proven ineffective and our way of using them as well.

Finding Truth And Finding Peace
This past week we read some very different articles in terms of what they were witnesses to. To me a
witness is someone who tells a story in hopes of finding truth and finding peace. A witness mean
someone who is willing to listen to people tell theirs stories and continue to tell those stories when
other people are no longer able to. While visiting the Africa Burial Grounds going through the
different exhibits, I came across a quote that I believe describes in perfect detail what a witness is. I m
for truth no matter who tells it, I m for justice no matter who it is for or against. I m a human being
first and foremost, and as such I m for whoever and whatever benefits humanity (Malcolm X). I
believe that a witness s job is to tell the truth regardless of whom that truth will affect. We as people
have the obligation to other human beings to be just and tell their stories, and fight for them when they
are not able to. While visit the African Burial Grounds I considered my self to be witness what these
people went through. Throughout the museum there were different stories that depicted tremendous
suffering. There was a particular picture that stood out to me and it was of when African Americans
were taken from Africa to be transported to the United States. The picture showed African Americans
being thrown over board because they were dead, sick, or about to die. In that instance I considered
my self a witness because learning about the slave trade those details were

The Causes Of Learning Disabilities
In the early 1960 s Samuel Kirk founded the term learning disabilities. This came about after he had
visited with a group of parents to discuss why their children seem to have small amounts of success
even when they can understand and comprehend things just like other children. As a result of this
meeting the Learning Disabilities Association of America was formed (Pullen, 27). Learning
Disabilities (LD) are created when there is a space between a person s ability to think and reason and
not understanding based on the results from tests. There are a few reasons why LD can occur. Boys are
more prone than girls, African Americans and Latinos are more prone than Whites and Asians. Most
adolescents with LD struggle with reading. They also have difficulties interacting with others,
expressing their feelings and understanding the feelings of other. Last, the amount of teacher s
involvement with adolescents can reduce the dropout rate (Arnett; Pullen). First, it is important to
know the gender, genetics and behavior that contribute to LD. For every 1 female there are 3 males
that have LD. Even though the reason for this is not clear, there are 2 things that can contribute to this
outcome. First, is the higher rate of genetics if an adolescent has a monozygotic twin, parent or parents
with LD. In this case, the likelihood of the other twin or future children having LD is pretty high. As a
result, this is due to the brain functioning and processing in different ways than people

Death of a Salesman, by Arthur Miller Essay
Death of A Salesman, written by Arthur Miller, is a play based on the turmoil within an average
American family. Miller wrote Death of A Salesman easily showcasing the elements of drama. I was
easily able to follow the plot, identify with his characters, and picture the setting.
The main theme of the plot seemed to be Willy reaching for the American Dream . Financial success,
business success, outwardly perfect family, revered by your peers, and in general respected by all.
Early on in the play two things are evident to the reader; Willy s questionable mental status, and his
tumultuous relationship with his sons.
Willy is apparently suffering from some sort of mental or emotional issues. These issues are causing ...

Happy mislead is family into thinking his job position was higher than is actually was, and Biff could

Willy s fear of change and evolvement is evident in his resentment of the apartments and in his
reaction to the recorder of Mr. Wagner s. He is also unable to come to terms with his own advancing
years as a salesman. He only goes to Mr. Wagner to ask for a job strictly in New York when Linda
insists. What he sees as valuable experience others see as obsolete. Willy longs for the days when the
boys revered him and they were pals.
Scott Foll states the driving point of plot is conflict (1182). This play definitely has the ultimate
conflict. That is simply, family. Conflict with Willy and Biff, Willy with himself, and Linda with her
sons. For me the turning climactic point is when while talking with Ben, Willy believes he can regain
what he lost years ago with Biff by ending his life. He thinks the twenty thousand from the insurance
money will fix it all. I suppose the resolution in this play was Willy s death. Although I do not imagine
this could truly be resolution for the remaining family.
Characterization seemed to be the most well developed element of the play. The patriarch of the
family, Willy Loman was portrayed as the tragic hero. I believe his character did indeed possess some
character flaws that inevitably led to his death. However, I agree with

Becoming A Music Producer
.A music producer oversees the production and development of songs, whether they are bringing
together instrumental and vocal elements for sound mixing or ensuring that the people involved hold a
singular vision for that song s success. While there s no formal education required for this career, it is
strongly recommended individuals pursue a 4 year bachelor s degree in music production. This field is
highly competitive with slow job growth, so this career will require you to master musical elements
like sound mixing and digital production to stand out from the crowd. Music producers draw together
instrumental and vocal elements to mix sound. They combine these factors with industry trends to

Essay on Writing Techniques in Poe s The Raven
Writing Techniques in Poe s The Raven
Edgar Allan Poe uses several writing techniques to create a single concentrated effect of unending
despair in his classic poem, The Raven. The most noticeable technique is the use of repetition. Just as
repeated exposure to cold raindrops can chill one to the bone, repeated exposure to words of
hopelessness and gloom creates a chilling effect. Poe saturates the reader with desperate futility by
repetitive use of the words nothing more and nevermore. These two phrases, used in refrain to end
seventeen of the poem s eighteen stanzas, drench the reader with melancholy. Poe also uses repetition
to spark the reader s curiosity. He refers to the sound of rapping or tapping eight times in the ... Show

This rare radiance stands in stark contrast to the grim, ungainly, ghastly, gaunt, and ominous raven
who now never leaves his chamber (71). Lenore is referred to as a sainted maiden (94), whereas the
raven is referred to as a prophet! and a thing of evil! (85, 91). The radiance of Lenore is contrasted
with the speaker s soul, which he describes as being under a shadow (107). These contrasts serve to
draw attention to the most significant contrast described in the poem: an intelligent, well read, loving
man interprets a bird seeking shelter on a cold night as an emblem of never ending anguish and
succumbs to depression and madness.
Poe masterfully chooses his words to create an effect. He introduces the idea that the tapping is caused
by something at his window lattice (33) followed by Let me see, then, what thereat is (34). His choice
of the word thereat is interesting in that it suggests the word threat . The sharp t sound at the end of
thereat conjures the sound of pecking on glass. The experience of hearing what the speaker hears
serves to increase the bond the reader feels with the speaker.
Poe s masterful alliteration likewise creates mood as exhibited in the phrase, And the silken sad
uncertain (13). These words are not commonly used together. The repetitive s sound forces the reader
to hesitate when reading the line, leading the reader to identify with the uncertainty that the speaker is
experiencing. In a similar way, the

Longfellow creek is the second largest bearing creek in Seattle. Every year, salmon return to the creek
but few make it all the way to spawning due to the threatened habitat. This is one of many reasons
why they need our help. Restoring the habitat along the creek as well as adjacent greenspaces will

Alcohol And Substance Abuse And The National Minimum...
Since alcohol and substance abuse have come into play, along with health issues, and emotional issues
in peoples lives, questions started to arise. One being the legal age to start drinking alcohol. The
national minimum drinking age act was signed on July 17th, 1984 to the law, with the drinking age at
minimum being 21 (Archer M.D.). An adult is any person who s reached the age of maturity as
directed by law (Archer M.D.). Legally, being 18 years old in the U.S. is considered to be the adult
age, but the consumption of alcohol has always been withheld from the young adults of today, until
the age of 21. When you re 18 year old, you can apply for a credit card, legally marry whoever you

At the same time, moderate drinking helps lower levels of cholesterol and prevents colds, unless the
drinker smokes tobacco, meaning moderate drinking with care can be seen as not harmful when done
by responsible adults (Pringle). Even though 18 is the adult age in the U.S. 18 19 is still technically
the teenager age and teens are said to be at a more extreme risk than adults would be to die in a car
crash, partially because of alcohol s stronger effects on lighter people (Pringle). Should 18 be the legal
age for alcohol consumption? Although denying young adults to alcohol may seem unfair, 21 should
be the legal age for alcohol consumption in the U.S. rather than 18, because of the overall improved
death and health rates shown as the outcome.
Currently in the U.S. the legal drinking age is at 21, an age that many people believe is fair. In the U.S.
more than 25k lives have been saved because of the 21 minimum legal drinking age (Madd). Although
health facts and opinions all have their own facts, the statistics don t lie. Even with 18 20 year olds
legally being accepted as adults, this age group is still more likely to illegally drink because they re so
close to the legal age. But those who start drinking before the age of 21 are more likely to be involved
in violent behaviors, attempt suicide, have unprotected sex, develop alcoholic problems, and more
(Pringle). On top of this, drinking at a young age greatly increases the risk of developing alcohol

Italian Neorealism Genre
During World War II many films in Italy the Italian community created a new type of genre for that
specific decade called Italian Neorealism. The Neorealism genre was a style of film characterized by
stories done by the poor and working class. These movies were typically filmed on location meaning
not in a studio but rather at a real place and used nonprofessional actors. The films themselves
contended with the difficulty of life post World War II. The early films were about social issues and
war. Director Roberto Rossellini s created a movie during the Neorealist time called Rome Open City
which was released in 1945. The movie shows a deeply moving portrait of Rome during the last
couple years of the war, with Germany occupying the city and Allied forces slowly closing in. The
film was made on whatever film stock Rossellini could gather up in the post war Italian economy. It
was shot in the streets of Rome with a kind of documentary realism that would show an even greater
impact to this story.
Rome Open City for me personally was a very amusing movie to watch because I ve never watched a
foreign movie before and it was something different to see especially back in 1945 when the war was
going on. For me it s incredible how this movie did so well during a time of tragedy and yet movies
here not in the US can t even get a decent rating. I did on the other hand have a bit of a hard time
following the movie because the lyrics that were given to the movie in english weren t that amazing I
feel like if I spoke Italian or if it was remastered into a english film then i d love it even more. The
film was divided into two parts. The first half focused on the daily lives of the resistance fighters
living in Rome. Francesco works for a communist newspaper, he also helps a group of militant anti
Nazi fighters, led by his friend Giorgio. Francesco s fiancÊe, the Pina is involved in the struggle as
well she helps create riots against the shops that control food rations and keep the people of the city
from getting enough to eat. One of the major things I loved about this film was how Rossellini
balances the film s darker moments with surprising humorous touches, especially when using the
priest Don Pietro. The Part that

Cage, in 1938, once conquered the challenge of creating percussion instruments for a dance in a
theatre that had no wings or orchestra pit, there was just barely enough room for a small grand piano
built into the front left of the audience. Being so limited on space and not being able to neither find,
nor fit an African twelve tone row, he invented the prepared piano. The prepared piano he created by
adding screws, bolts, rubber, wood and weather striping between the strings of the grand piano. The
piano was transformed into a percussion orchestra, with the loudness of that of a harpsichord. Cage
later went on to earn awards for Sonatas and Interludes which was one of his most important works
for the prepared piano in 1946 to 1948. Cage later went on to say My favorite music is the music that I

The Grocery Store
Who would have thought that by opening up a single grocery store in the early 1900s, it would give
the ability for someone to open up over 60 more in less than ten years. In today s business market, it is
nearly impossible to open up 60 grocery stores in Toronto in less than 10 years. The reason being is
that the grocery retail industry is now becoming or has become an Oligopoly. When one is walking
through the streets of Canada looking at places to shop for groceries, one may stumble across several
options of grocery stores to choose from. Often people question whether to buy their groceries either
at No frills, Fortinos, Real supermarket or Loblaws. For many, the question is simply answered by
choosing the store nearest to the comfort of their home. Over time, customers become loyal to the

Reflection Of Plato s View On Love By Socrates
Finally, toward the end of the Symposium, Socrates speaks, giving an accurate account of love and the
correct use of Eros. He opposes all of the other speakers and says that love is not all about our
pleasure and sexual deviances, but to either impregnate the body and give life, or to impregnate the
soul and pass on knowledge. Socrates speaks as if Eros is a love for the other person, to love someone
so much that you want to enter into a bond that results in child rearing or a love for mankind that you
want to share all your knowledge with them to better their soul. He continues that to be pregnant in the
soul is better than to be pregnant in the body because when we are pregnant in the soul, there is more
to be given to others then caring for a newborn. In this response from Socrates, it is hard to determine
if he has it completely correct. I would imagine that without people being pregnant in the body, we
would eventually run out of people to pass our knowledge on to. This, then, would have to be a
both/and situation where each has a calling to one or the other or both, and both forms of love would
then be equal. Socrates is then saying that love itself in not a god, but a messenger that is caught in
between the divine realm of immortality and the earthly realm of the mortal. Love then can reach the
heights of the gods bringing messages from man and returning to man with messages from god.
Socrates is now showing that there is some divine link between man and the divine, and this is love.
This also shines light on the fact that because each human had this link to the divine the human must
in some way be part divine and part animal. Because each human can love, can reason, and has these
animal instincts and desires, man must also be caught in between the divine and earthly worlds.
Because we cannot physically move into that divine realm, then we must have an entity that is part of
us and can move freely in between, this would be the soul. Socrates refutes all the other speeches
about taking young boys as lovers for one s own gratification and love being a god that permits all
thing in the name of pleasure. In conclusion, it is safe to say that, in our current era, Eros is absolutely

Monica offered Father Rodrigues a cucumber, showing her respect for him by giving him what little
food she had to offer. From this small yet generous offer made by Monica, Father Rodrigues reflected
on his mission to Japan.
Since coming to this country, he reflected, he had caused nothing but hardship to these poor
Christians, and he nibbled at the cucumber with his front teeth. He had received from them the little
hut in which he had dwelt, they had given him the clothing he now wore, he had eaten their food. Now
it was his turn to give them something. But what could he give? The only thing he had to offer was his
life and his death (Endo 81).
Monica was already malnourished, yet she selflessly offered her only food to Father Rodrigues, a man
she had never encountered before. This was huge to Father Rodrigues and it made him question what
he can do to help her in return. Monica?s impact and the victimization made Father Rodrigues
question whether or not his coming to Japan really worth it or not. He realized that he had only created
more hardships for the Christian peasants that he had encountered throughout Japan. However, at the
same time, Father Rodrigues also realized that many of the Christians looked up to him and were
thankful that Father Rodrigues would try to come and help them. Monica, through her being
victimized, helped Father Rodrigues decide his fate in the end, dying as a martyr, or living and trying

The pharmaceutical industry consists of intensive marketing, production, and research meant to
develop drugs that provide the entire world with the capabilities to cure infectious diseases and
support daily needs. An aging world population and greater work loads has given an incentive for
pharmaceutical firms to rigorously produce and sell numerous variations of drugs to treat cancer,
allergies, diabetes, and pain. Some trends to be considered include: greater technological
improvements, cheaper drugs, and increased investment/R D spending. Technological improvements
have guaranteed higher purities and cheaper drugs. However, increased research has dramatically

This is done by creating a research and development team to improve current production operations. If
a company invests in new capital and on a R D team, they create greater opportunities for innovation.
Innovation in terms of the production and quality of a yellow fever drug ensures that less resources are
wasted, more of the drug can be produced, and consumers benefit by having a high quality and an
effective drug that doesn t pose a threat to their lives. A company must properly decide whether or not
they choose to enter this market, in addition to considering a dynamic efficiency stance. If the
company does decide to develop a drug and the country that it resides in doesn t honor a patent, the
company will perish under the competition. If they are honored a patent, the company might flourish
in this competition, but with great difficulty and cost. Not developing the drug, but being honored a
patent is hurtful for the company and the country, since applying for a patent and approving it is
costly. Not developing the drug and not being honored a patent would mean that the company loses

Informative Speech On Child Sexual Abuse
Informative Speech:
Specific Purpose: To inform my audience on how to create fewer victims of child sexual abuse.
Imagine sitting in front of a tasty plate of pasta except the smell just makes your stomach turn and you
can t even take a small bite. Imagine spending countless hours rolling over in your bed without falling
asleep. Imagine feeling confused, angry, trapped. Imagine feeling so much shame and guilt that you
would rather die than reveal your biggest secret.
Have you or anyone close to you ever felt like this? These are just a few of the symptoms of child
sexual abuse.
Today, I want to talk to you about how people can create a society with fewer victims of child sexual
abuse. In order to do this, we need to consider the victim ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
My good friend is Australian and she introduced me to the investigation. I started watching the
hearings of the Royal Commission live and reading the court transcripts online. I soon became
addicted to the investigation. It was the first time I understood what child sexual abuse is and its
effects on a child s life. There were 4 convicted perpetrators and each had respectively multiple
victims. One of the victims that testified at the Royal Commission, called AVB for confidentiality, was
sexually abuse by 2 different Molesters. At the time, his home was largely destroyed by a fire and his
parent s marriage came to an end. They also suffered financially and were considered the poor family
within the community. Although children of all ages, genders, race socioeconomic status and family
structure are at risk, Budin Johnson 1989 study shows that perpetrators report that they look for
passive, quiet, troubled, lonely children from single parent or broken homes .
When AVB was 11 or 12 years of age, David Cyprus, an older yeshiva student befriended him and
then sexually assaulted him in a classroom at Yeshiva College. When he was 14 years of age he

Physical Similarities Within Family
What causes physical similarities within family? Why do cells replicate the way they do? What
remains the heart of all living organisms from viruses to a blue whale? The answer is simple. All
living organisms on this planet are connected through DNA.
Any body is made up of cells. Within these cells, several organelles function for a specific function
whether it be somatic or sex cells. The central region which regulates all activity of a cell is the
nucleus. In the nucleus, a macromolecule named DNA stores all information. Stated simply, DNA is
the blueprint to every living being on earth. (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d7ET4bbkTm0) It is
as a brain which regulates growth, division and even reproduction.
DNA is one of the nucleic acids. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In DNA, the sugar is known as deoxyribose. Obvious through its name, the structure of the molecule
is arranged in a closed pentagon with 5 carbon atoms along with OH bonds and oxygen atoms. the
DNA can be classified as a pentose monosaccharide.
The phosphate group in DNA covalently bonds to the pentose sugar to form a polynucleotide strand (
http://www.mybiologyweb.com/FTP/Chem%20 %20nucleic.pdf)
The nitrogenous base bonds with deoxyribose to complete the DNA strand. There are two types of
bases purines and pyrimidines. Purines and considerably larger and consist of adenine and guanine
whereas the pyrimidines are cytosol, uracil and thymine.
Uracil is not part of DNA and will be discussed later.
Therefore, 4 main nitrogenous bases form the nucleotides. Since DNA is arranged in two strands, one
strand in bonded to the other by these nitrogenous bases. This is known as base pairing. There is a set
pair for each base.
Guanine will always bond to Cytosine whereas thymine always bonds to adenine. The molecular
shapes of the molecules are such that only the set pairs can bond. Therefore, knowing one nucleotide,
a person can deduce the Source

Pro Death Penalty
Still today, the death penalty is a major controversy in numerous states all over the United States. It s
hard to grasp the idea of putting another human to death. The death penalty is an execution style
punishment which is usually used against criminal s who have committed a horrific crime. The are
many arguments that the death penalty goes against the eighth amendment, which was struck down by
the Supreme Court. I believe that the death penalty should be abolished everywhere in America. I
think it should be abolished because it still isn t proven to deterrent future murders, it s used unfairly,

many consequences for this because they did not uncover all the evidence before they executed the

Hemingway Determination
Authors provide influential messages and lessons to the readers by using myriad themes throughout
their books. The author, Hemingway of the novella, The Old Man and the Sea, constantly states the
theme of determination . Determination means not giving up on something that is desirable. In
everyday life, we all strive for things we desire. Hemingway expresses to the readers the real meaning
of determination and the use of determination in our everyday life. One of the major myriad themes
that Hemingway states in The Old Man and the Sea is determination. Determination means firmness
of purpose, to never give up. The meaning of this empowering word inspires many to achieve their
goals in life, by not allowing anyone to downgrade them or stand in their way. ... Show more content

By implementing determination, never allow failure to be a discouragement. For instance, a historical
figure named Thomas Edison tried multiple times to invent the light bulb, but was unsuccessful.
Because of his determination, he did not allow that to make him give up, yet he allowed those failed
attempts to encourage him to go above and beyond, and eventually he invented the first light bulb and
made history. This example was to enlighten not to allow one failed attempt to become a
discouragement, but yet an encouragement to do better. Like Edison once stated, Our greatest
weakness lies in giving up. The most certain way to succeed is always to try just one more time.
An author uses themes to apply life lessons for the readers. Hemingway, the author of The Old Man
and the Sea uses determination as the major theme of the book. Determination means never giving up
on anything. By applying determination to our life, just simply never allow anyone to stand in your
way of success. The true meaning of determination and how we should impact it in our daily lifestyle

Essay about The Forbidding House
It was a cold winter s night. The wind was whistling through the bare branches of the trees. The dead
leaves were dancing noisily across pavements and all was still. That night I was walking down Old
St.Paul s Road when the clouds started to build. I looked around as I huddled under a large, dead oak
tree. I had noticed that almost all of the houses on this abandoned street were too badly damaged for
us to take shelter in, except for one. Lightning split the night sky without a sound, illuminating the
skeletal trees outside. The old Victorian house shook to its very foundations as the peal of thunder
rumbled hatefully across the shimmering, tempestuous lake. Should I stay under the tree ... Show

Once I got to the top my heart thumped harder and faster as I saw a dark figure in the distance,
disturbingly silhouetted in the dark. In the shock I slipped and fell backwards, tumbling down, like
rocks on a cliff face. When I got to the bottom, I felt a ghastly throbbing pain in my back, which hurt
like hell. I slowly got up and my mind was focused on the thing I had seen upstairs. I then felt a cold
breeze that made my bones shiver and hair stand up on end. A giant rat scampered across the floor; it s
beady eyes glowed red in the flicker of the lantern light. It hissed at me. I dropped my lantern.
Suddenly, I was plunged into utter darkness. I took several deep breaths to calm my trembling body
and finished my trek up the stairs. Vivid flashes of lightning illuminated the attic. A vase lay in pieces
in front of the broken window. Well, at least I knew what had caused the crash, I mused to myself. I
found an old threadbare cloak hanging near the window. I now realised that is wasn t a person who I
had seen but simply an old cloak. I suddenly tripped over a large box as I walked. The trunk wasn t
locked, but age had rusted it shut. I gripped the top and pulled with all of my strength. The trunk
protested, but finally gave in. Another rat jumped up at me. I clenched the rat s tail and threw it away
from me. I felt something solid inside the trunk. Whatever I had found, didn t

Essay about The Human Genome Project
Genetic engineering is, at best, a debatable branch of science. For some, it is the wave of the future: a
method for perfecting the human genome, discarding flaws from infants before they are born and
ensuring they live longer, healthier lives. For others, it is an abomination: a method of circumventing
what nature gave you, and wholly unnatural. Which one is right? (Bird). Naturally, genetics is the
scientific study of inherited variations in the DNA strand. This topic sparked curiosity among
numerous scientific individuals that they begun a research project on it titled the Human Genome
Project. To illustrate, the Human Genome Project worked out the sequence of the three billion
chemical letters of the human genome, and it produced ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Human genetics should be a considerable option in the future to benefit our world.
For example, gene therapy can be used to cure genetic diseases like leukemia. For instance, a young
man from Douglas, Arizona, a town boarding Mexico, underwent chemotherapy, but if he had gone
through gene therapy instead of the harmful chemotherapy radiation that could have been performed
many toils would have been prevented for the young man and his family. Gene therapy is an
experimental way of using inheritable factors to treat or prevent diseases it is also an experimental
technique that is used to substitute a gene that works right for a non working gene. In fact, in human
genetics, gene therapy is the use of genetic material as medicine involving the transfer of working or
therapeutic copy of a gene into specific cells of an individual to repair a copy of a faulty gene. In the
future, this technique may be used to allow doctors to treat any disorder instead of using drugs or
surgery by inserting a gene into a patient s cells. Several researchers are testing numerous approaches
to gene therapy, including taking out or deactivating a mutated gene that has improper functioning,
and introducing a new genetic factor into the body that will help fight a disease. In fact, several areas
of criteria must be met for the procedure to work.
After all, many believers claim it is unethical to use this technology, genetic engineering, because

On March 28, 2017 President Donald Trump Issued An Executive
On March 28, 2017 President Donald Trump issued an Executive Order (EO) on Promoting Energy
Independence and Economic Growth. This report is a partial overview of the EO with a consideration
of the potential energy policy implications. While there are various programmes and policies affected
by the EO, this report will look at the implementation of the policy objectives and have a focus on the
reconsideration of the Clean Power Plan. Section 1 outlines several policy objectives. Generally, the
objectives of the EO are directed to promote clean and safe development of our Nation s vast energy
resources, while at the same time avoiding regulatory burdens that unnecessarily encumber energy
production, constrain economic growth, and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Furthermore, the EO sets several deadlines: 45 days for relevant agencies to submit a plan to the
Director of the Office of Management and Budget; 120 days to submit a draft final report with
recommendations; and 180 days for the plans to be finalized. While the varying agencies are
interpreting the EO and reevaluating relevant policies, involvement is viable. Any party with an
interest in the continuation, modification, or cancellation of any policy included in the immediate
review should consider the opportunities to participate in this decision making process. Subsequently,
the varying agencies are directed to coordinate an effort to realize their recommendations and to
suspend, revise, or rescind, or publish for notice and comment proposed rules suspending, revising, or
rescinding, those actions, as appropriate and consistent with law. The effort to realize the
recommendations and reverse any burden identified should be consistent with the policy objectives
previously mentioned. Section 3 announced a rescission of certain energy and climate related
presidential and regulatory action. This disregard of the previous environmental policy may be
meaningful. To mention a few, this section rescinds a couple reports by President Obama. There was
the Climate Action Plan: June 2013 which was designed to reduce carbon emissions, improve energy
efficiency, and direct the EPA to advance the Clean Power Plan. Also, there was the Climate Action

The Impact Of Sexual Child Abuse On America
The Impact of Sexual Child Abuse in America Child abuse has been going on for many years. There
are many forms of child abuse, however, there is one that is far worse than the rest; sexual abuse.
Children has a natural instinct to trust too easily and believe what people tell them, especially if they
know those people. Statistics show very high figures of sexual child abuse in America. When children
undergo sexual abuse, it impacts their whole being. There are physical, emotional, and psychologic
effects that could impact a child not only short term but long term as well. When a child is victimized
sexually, they are not aware of the victimization. These types of victimizations could last years before
it is forced to stop. One of the sources describes a story where a women shares her experience of
sexual child abuse. The story will explain what she went through emotionally after the incident. Even
though it was a one time victimization, it still had a long term effect. Educating children and adults
about how to recognize the signs of sexual abuse could be a step closer towards helping innocent
children who are being sexually victimized all around the United States. Summary of Literatures
Definition of Sexual Child Abuse
To begin, the common definition of sexual child abuse is referred to, in the Child Abuse Prevention
and Treatment Act, as a type of maltreatment that refers to the involvement of the child in sexual
activity to provide

They took love lightly and thought as something to bet. Everything they did seemed like steps for
ruining a relationship. Every scene followed by another made the situation worse and worse. If the
two men wanted to break up their engagement with the women, then perhaps this was the best way to
do so. Thus the title, How To Ruin A Relationship (Forever) For Dummies was born. For the short
story, A Doll s House, I would rename it as House Rules. The story is about Nora Helmer, and her role
as housewife. The plot centers on Nora Helmer s secret that she illegally borrowed money from
Krogstad for the trip to Italy for her husband s health. Even though she acted out of love, it was still
illegal for Nora to borrow money. She lies to Torvald that she got the money from her father. Nora
says that she will repay the debt soon, but never told Torvald because it was illegal for married women
to borrow money. When Torvald finds out in the end, he yells at Nora and

  • 2. North American Free Trade ( Nafta ) And The International... Ever since organizations and agreements like the North American Free Trade (NAFTA) and the International Monetary Fund (IMF) were created around the end of World War 2 to supposedly help the Third World nations to establish better economies and governments, they have only done more harm than good for these nations. These third world countries end up becoming exploited and extorted, forced to become dependent on the big international organizations like the IMF because of the exorbitant interest rates charged on them, thus they remain forever in debt. The accumulation of debt then allows the IMF to have more voice over how the indebted countries should be shaped and how they should run their economy. What ends up happening then is that their ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Because of such policies, many women end up struggling at home and eventually, in desperation, they end up leaving home to find work elsewhere. First, let us examine how economic policies like the structural adjustment policies implemented by the IMF affect a country. A great example of this is detailed in Ault and Sandberg s Our Policies, Their Consequences , where both authors explore how seriously the structural adjustment policies changed the economic state in Zambia. As these authors point out, the terms of the loans reflect the economic and political interests and values of the world s wealthiest nations (470) . It is seen here already that that does not bode well for Zambia. One clearly can see that globalization is just another way first world nations still colonize the world, but instead through means of economic and trade conquests. Now, the article continues on to talk about the kind of changes that the IMF implemented on Zambia: they wanted them to devalue their currency and stop supporting many domestic programs, social welfare programs, and fire federal employees and instead they wanted them to focus on increasing their exports for the global market. And what are changes without its consequences? Because the IMF favored the growth of international markets, the local economy in Zambia suffered greatly. Devalued ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 4. Apple s First Macintosh Commercial On December 31st of 1983 an eccentric commercial was introduced, challenging other companies and awaking people all over the country. It has been more than 30 years and people are still talking about Apple s first Macintosh commercial. Companies use commercials to show the audience that their products are worth buying like Apple did in its first Macintosh commercial. By using themes from George Orwell s 1984, Apple was able to speak volumes about its product without showing or describing it. Apple visualizes its self as the hero that will save the world and people believed it. Most of us now own an Apple brand. This advertisement is an effective ad because it contains a valuable message that was provided to the viewer by using contrasting visuals and it is about awakening the people and breaking the chains of similarity and loving to be different. Yet, it is ironic because Apple has become one of the most controlling companies in our society. In the complex mysterious 1984 commercial of Apple Mac that definitely needs a second thought before being understood, everything is grey at the beginning. People marching down the tunnel, wearing all grey with their heads shaved and their identity lost. Then we notice an athletic girl with red shorts contrasting the grey atmosphere that was created at the beginning of the advertisement. And we also visualize a man in a big blue screen giving a speech and everyone is listening to him. Then the girl throws a hammer on the big screen ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Essay about Importance of Language in Richard Wright s... The Importance of Language in Black Boy Richard Wright s novel Black Boy is not only a story about one man s struggle to find freedom and intellectual happiness, it is a story about his discovery of language s inherent strengths and weaknesses. And the ways in which its power can separate one soul from another and one class from another. Throughout the novel, he moves from fear to respect, to abuse, to fear of language in a cycle of education which might be likened to a tumultuous love affair. From the very beginning of the novel we see young Richard realize the power of language when he follows his father s literal directions and kills a cat he has befriended(12). Although he knows that this is not really what ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Although his love of language is soon reinforced when Ella reads him the wonderful story of Bluebeard and His Seven Wives(44), he is severely rebuked for it which proves to him again that language can be dangerous. He says that his response to the story Ella reads him is an emotional response (47), and that it carries a sharp, frightening, and almost painful excitement (48) with it. This gives him further respect for language and its power. At the same time it again brings fear, because his aunt tells him that novels are the Devil s work. This fear stays with him through the next few years. So much so that he cannot even write his name on the blackboard. When he raises his arm to write his name, his mind goes blank and empty he cannot even remember his name at this point, much less write it. He continues to ignore in language that which he does not like, does not understand, or does not agree with. He uses its power sparingly: writing letters to relatives when his mother is sick, and reading only sporadically, until a new job teaches him that ignorance of language does not work in his interests either. When he is selling newspapers that he has not been reading, he is advised by an older black man that he should read what he is selling. It seems impossible that in all the time he has been selling these papers he has not yet read one of them, and so one must believe that he has unconsciously been ignoring the ... • 6. Health And Social Care Chapter 2 Summary The material presented in Chapters 2 and 3 are related in the sense that they intertwine with each other. In Chapter 2, the main focus is the social gradient and stress levels. The lower on the social gradient a person is the higher the stress level is and the more risk that person is at for health conditions. This can lessen health of the future generations. Chapter 3 is wrapped in here. It is where life is decided at the fetus or young age stage. Meaning the health of an individual is decided at an early stage. If a mother is on the low end of the social gradient and has high levels of stress during a pregnancy, the fetus is effected by the mother s health. • 7. Water Flow of Flouride First of all, naturally fluoridated water has fluorine levels of approximately 0.4 mg/L, while artificially fluoridated water can have levels up to 1.0mg/L. This long term ingestion of excess fluorine can lead to fluorosis which may negatively impact teeth and bones. Dental fluorosis occurs during tooth development. Teeth are mostly composed of hydroxylapatite, which is a mineral form of calcium. When intake of fluoride increases, it also increases apatite content, creating white streaks and in more serious cases cause mottling of teeth. In addition, fluoride levels in breast milk are around 0.004mg/L. Therefore, infants who drink baby formula with fluoridated water will be exposed to 300 times more fluoride, increasing the risk of developing dental fluorosis. Skeletal fluorosis is another disease in which fluoride accumulates in the bone for several years. Early symptoms of skeletal fluorosis may be forms of arthritis such as osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis which are joint pains and stiffness. In more severe cases, the bone can calcify, which is the conversion of soft bone tissue into hard and insoluble calcium compounds. This can lead to muscle and joint impairment. (WHO) For over 40 years, U.S health organizations have claimed that skeletal fluorosis will not develop unless an individual intake 10 20mg/L of fluoride every day. However, studies in India and China shows that a person can have skeletal fluorosis with levels of 0.7 1.5mg/L. Fluoride can also impact ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 9. The Impact Of Ancient Greek Theater And Tragedy Michimasa Kamata HUM 101 007 3/17/16 The Impact of Ancient Greek Theater and Tragedy Ancient Greek culture has influenced our modern culture in many ways from philosophy to medicine to government. We still use many of their concepts, technology, and even alphabet system. Without ancient Greece, our modern world would not have advanced as far. A significant contribution of the ancient Greek culture to the world today is the Greek theater, more specifically the structure of tragedy. Some contributions are the structure of tragedy in modern literature, rise of opera, and the creation of the theater. Greek drama originally started out as a ritual to honor the god of wine, Dionysus, by the cult of Dionysus. In the ritual, drunk men dressed up in goat skin would sing and have dialogue in chorus to welcome the leader, the person acting as Dionysus (Sayre 151). In these revel filled festivals, men dressed as satyrs, companions of Dionysus who are half man and half goat, while the women dressed up as maenads, the immortal followers of Dionysus. As the participants become drunk and filled with ecstasy, they transform into a different identity from before. Later on this behavior became the satyr play, a form of Greek drama. Tragedy is said to be originated from the Dionysian rites, where the name comes from tragoidos, which means the goat song from the satyrs companions of Dionysus who are half man and half goat. This could be in reference to the fact that Dionysus was also the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 10. The Sampling Interval For The Current Clamps The sampling interval for the current clamps can be changed depending on what we want to know. For the air compressor we may log more frequently, for example every five seconds, if we find that the compressor is switching mode very frequently, otherwise logging at 60 second intervals may be enough. The purpose of the continuous measurement will also affect the logging interval. If the first visit gives us the impression that the compressed air system is an important part of the energy use, we may measure more carefully to have enough information to suggest detailed measures. The drawing of the electric (Table 3. Example of plan for energy measurements to allocate electricity use to unit processes.) In this case we will have a measurement from a switchgear cabinet that covers several unit processes, for example lighting and forklift charging for a garage and picking stock, as shown in Figure 8. The data from clamp no. 1 in the switchgear must be complemented by simulta‐ neous measurements from clamps 2 and 3 in the distribution board, where clamp 2 measures the total incoming current to the Central Garage board and clamp 3 measures the outgoing current to the forklift chargers. Later, the data from clamp 2 in the Central Garage distribution board can be subtracted from clamp 1 in the switchgear to get a picture of the energy use in Central Picking Stock and Central Large Hall. At the same time you have parallel measurements of the air compressor from clamp no 4. The clamp ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 11. Advantages Of English In Chinese Culture The integration of aspects from other cultures in a culture is an example of culture hybridization; the English language has been recently used in China regularly. English itself has been becoming a worldwide language, about 300 million to 450 million people on Earth are native English speakers and more than 1 billion people in total know how to speak English ( English as a Global Language ). In China, English is taught in schools of all levels and individuals are even learning the language on their leisure time. There are about 400 million learners of English just in China ( English Language Teaching and Learning at the National Level in China 5). In lower education schools, such as primary and secondary school, English is intensively taught and studied. English is one of the optional subjects on a Chinese exam called China s National College Entrance Examine, which is similar to the SATs taken by students in America (10). In postsecondary educationC or higher education, English is the most in play in China (10). Anywhere on campus, one can see students conversing and studying English. All higher education students are required to take 2 years of English regardless of their majors and for English majors, 4 or more years of English are required (10). To incorporation of English in Chinese culture can be identified as cultural hybridization. Music is a way to show feelings and expressions that represent a culture. • 12. Analysis Of The Movie Man On Wire The movie, Man on Wire is a documentary about wire walker, Philippe Petit, who proves his impossible, yet inspiring dream above the clouds between the World Trade Center s Twin Towers was indeed possible. During this documentary, Petit magically walked and danced across a wire, leaving the audience filled with suspense and extremely sweaty palms. This project, completed by James Marsh, was truly a job well done, because of the way he has Petit narrate the documentary and how he recounts the events that unfold. This film kept me on the edge of my seat the entire time because of the way the events were revealed by cross cutting between flashbacks that explain to the audience a little about what is going on, rushing towards the unfolding of the morning before the adventure. Supplemental to the vast amount of historical footage in the film, Marsh uses several aesthetics of realism such as voiceovers, on camera interviews, textual information on screen to display facts, mise en scene, handheld cameras, natural lighting, existing footage, real people and diegetic sounds. Throughout the film, the filmmaker s obvious goal is not only about telling a story about a man, but more significantly about an overall attitude towards life that refuses to acknowledge limits and boundaries. James Marsh tells this amazing and brave story using film techniques like existing images, on camera interviewing, real people, and mise en scene that create a truth about the world; a world where everything ... • 14. The Politics Of Mexico And China Mexico has been a democracy for close to 100 years, however, in practice, it is only now going through a democratic transition (ONSF). The dislodging of an authoritarian political party from presidency in 2000 made many optimistic about Mexico s move towards democracy. Similarly, China, a fractured authoritarian state, has been showing increasing signs of democracy. Due to its economic and political trends, many argue that China is well on its way towards becoming a democracy. However, despite these trends, there is a problem in that the politics in both Mexico and China remain riddled with corruption. This complex issue raises the question of why corruption persists in both Mexico and China despite their movements towards democracy. This ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For over 70 years, Mexico was controlled by the PRI, an authoritarian regime that led with co option, inclusion, and corruption (ONFS). A key element of their power was patron client relationships, in which bureaucrats delivered services in exchange for support; in other words, bureaucratic corruption was the norm. These relationships were allowed and perpetuated by weak governmental laws. Although the PRI is no longer the dominating political party, the PRI maintains enormous power at both state and local level (Carpenter). As a result, Mexico s government has put in little effort toward improving the pseudo democratic foundations upon which its ability to rule was established. Instead of reforming the structure of rule that promoted clientelism, they focused on keeping certain people out of office (Corruption in Mexico). Because of this lack of reform, structures that allow old style political machines are still effective, making corruption still common place. An example of a structural flaw in the Mexican government is the law that prevents re election (ONFS). Although this practice was recently reformed, without a chance at re election, political leaders often felt like they had nothing to lose and were more likely to take bribes in exchange for political favors (Agren). The source of the problem is that Mexico is still recovering from a system that was based on ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

She moved from her town to Molching, Germany, close to Munich. The book thief talks about struggles of German girl and her foster family during the World War II. When Liesel arrived to her new family, she was frequently called saumensch filthy pig. Her mom called her like that all the time. However, many historians have different ideas about how animal imagery and stereotypes actually affect a society besides keeping away from wolves and bears and such. Dr. Jack Zipes, a professor of German and comparative literature, promotes in his paper, What Makes a Repulsive Frog So Appealing: Memetics and Fairy Tales, that the story of The Frog Prince is actually a story about the strategies of mating and how the frog symbolizes its appearance of an unsuitable mate to a suitable one. In addition to how specific animal stereotypes and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Whatever the minor variations, Zipes argues that there are elements that are the same throughout that become the metaphors that strengthen his mating strategy theory. Starting at the beginning, the princess is young and has reached puberty, most likely with her golden ball symbolizing her virginity and purity. She brings out the ball to play with as a means of showing her availability and losing the ball in the water is representing how she is testing out the waters for suitable mates. However, an unsuitable mate, the frog, shows up and she rejects him. This rejection, Zipes argues, reflects the rejection by women who were forced into arranged marriages by their fathers either based on appearance, age, or wealth. However, the princess s father says she must do what the frog says, which is to sleep in her bed, which further symbolizes the struggles of an arranged marriage. However, in the 1857 version of the tale, the princess throws the frog against the wall to show her sexual independence, because she knows that she must bear an heir and that he will be an unsuitable mate that will neither make her children healthy and strong of give them financial security. Through this display of sexual independence, and the frog transforms into a handsome prince, becoming a more suitable mate for the princess . The answer is, my mother. She takes an excessive amount of time to get ready and the last thing to do is rush her. It was already 9 o clock and the party started at 11, meaning we had to get things going. I began to run back and forth, room to room, checking on my mother to see if she was anywhere near ready. Mathura Prasad Dahal Instructor Miguel Marrero English 1302 September 18, 2014 Animal Experimentation The various experiments are performed on living animals especially to test the effects of chemical compounds such as new drugs, cosmetics, food additives and pesticides. The application of animals to test a large number of products from household compounds and cosmetics to pharmaceutical has been considered to be a normal strategy for many years. Animal experimentation has existed since ancient times and contributed to human life and survival. The most radical progress in the health science has all been made possible by animal research. Thus, animal experimentation is recognized and accepted as an important tool in saving lives. Humans have been benefited from the health care developments that have been based on the benefits of animal research and testing for many years. According to Fox Michael Virtually every medical innovation of the last century and especially last four decades has been based to a significant extent upon the results of animal experimentation. Surgery on animals has assisted in developing organ transplant and open heart surgery. Animal testing has also helped in developing vaccine against disease like rabies, polio, measles, mumps, rubella, and TB. The Hammurapi s Laws and the readings from Exodus 21 23 have many similar qualities. But just like everything else they can be analyzed differently when they are being compared. While throughout both readings they talk about the goring ox law. And seeing how that one specific law can be viewed differently it shows how unlike the two places were. In one place they were realizing how much God does for them, and how he provides to them if they follow his laws or commandments. Whereas in the other (around Hammurapi) location Hammurapi just talks about they are following the laws, and them getting nothing in return. In the book of Exodus, it shows how ... For example, in The New Interpreter s Study Bible it shows just that If the ox has been accustomed to gore in the past and its owner has been warned but has not restrained it, and it kills a man or a woman, the ox should be stoned, and its owner shall be put to death. And that is the same in Hammurapi s Laws as well. But what also is noticed is that if you have money you can pay off your death. As it is stated in Exodus 20 40, the owner of that ox can pay for redemption If ransom is laid upon him (the owner of the ox), he must pay whatever is laid upon him to redeem his life. The NRSV rendering ... the owner shall pay whatever is imposed for the redemption of the victim s life. It does not seem right because the victim is dead so the money should not count for it. But it goes into explaining that the victims life is an interpretative addition. And throughout those two examples, you can see that the owner of the ox is only penalized if he knows his ox is killing people. If he does not know that his ox is killing people he does not get penalized or in other words put to death. Also, the ox is only killed if the owner knows about it. • 23. The Causes Of Learning Disabilities In the early 1960 s Samuel Kirk founded the term learning disabilities. This came about after he had visited with a group of parents to discuss why their children seem to have small amounts of success even when they can understand and comprehend things just like other children. As a result of this meeting the Learning Disabilities Association of America was formed (Pullen, 27). Learning Disabilities (LD) are created when there is a space between a person s ability to think and reason and not understanding based on the results from tests. There are a few reasons why LD can occur. Boys are more prone than girls, African Americans and Latinos are more prone than Whites and Asians. Most adolescents with LD struggle with reading. They also have difficulties interacting with others, expressing their feelings and understanding the feelings of other. Last, the amount of teacher s involvement with adolescents can reduce the dropout rate (Arnett; Pullen). First, it is important to know the gender, genetics and behavior that contribute to LD. For every 1 female there are 3 males that have LD. Even though the reason for this is not clear, there are 2 things that can contribute to this outcome. First, is the higher rate of genetics if an adolescent has a monozygotic twin, parent or parents with LD. In this case, the likelihood of the other twin or future children having LD is pretty high. • 28. Essay on Writing Techniques in Poe s The Raven Writing Techniques in Poe s The Raven Edgar Allan Poe uses several writing techniques to create a single concentrated effect of unending despair in his classic poem, The Raven. The most noticeable technique is the use of repetition. Just as repeated exposure to cold raindrops can chill one to the bone, repeated exposure to words of hopelessness and gloom creates a chilling effect. Poe saturates the reader with desperate futility by repetitive use of the words nothing more and nevermore. These two phrases, used in refrain to end seventeen of the poem s eighteen stanzas, drench the reader with melancholy. Poe also uses repetition to spark the reader s curiosity. Lenore is referred to as a sainted maiden (94), whereas the raven is referred to as a prophet! and a thing of evil! (85, 91). The radiance of Lenore is contrasted with the speaker s soul, which he describes as being under a shadow (107). These contrasts serve to draw attention to the most significant contrast described in the poem: an intelligent, well read, loving man interprets a bird seeking shelter on a cold night as an emblem of never ending anguish and succumbs to depression and madness. Poe masterfully chooses his words to create an effect. He introduces the idea that the tapping is caused by something at his window lattice (33) followed by Let me see, then, what thereat is (34). His choice of the word thereat is interesting in that it suggests the word threat . The sharp t sound at the end of thereat conjures the sound of pecking on glass. The experience of hearing what the speaker hears serves to increase the bond the reader feels with the speaker. Poe s masterful alliteration likewise creates mood as exhibited in the phrase, And the silken sad uncertain (13). These words are not commonly used together. The repetitive s sound forces the reader to hesitate when reading the line, leading the reader to identify with the uncertainty that the speaker is experiencing. In a similar way, the ... These movies were typically filmed on location meaning not in a studio but rather at a real place and used nonprofessional actors. The films themselves contended with the difficulty of life post World War II. The early films were about social issues and war. Director Roberto Rossellini s created a movie during the Neorealist time called Rome Open City which was released in 1945. The movie shows a deeply moving portrait of Rome during the last couple years of the war, with Germany occupying the city and Allied forces slowly closing in. He was an American composer born in Los Angeles on September 5, 1912. Neither of his parents went to college, and John himself dropped out after a mere two years in college. His father earned a living being an inventor. Cage credits his father, being an inventor, as very influential to the way in which he wrote music. John also considered himself as an innovator and discoverer in the field of music. Cage, in 1938, once conquered the challenge of creating percussion instruments for a dance in a theatre that had no wings or orchestra pit, there was just barely enough room for a small grand piano built into the front left of the audience. Being so limited on space and not being able to neither find, nor fit an African twelve tone row, he invented the prepared piano. The prepared piano he created by adding screws, bolts, rubber, wood and weather striping between the strings of the grand piano. The piano was transformed into a percussion orchestra, with the loudness of that of a harpsichord. Cage later went on to earn awards for Sonatas and Interludes which was one of his most important works for the prepared piano in 1946 to 1948. Cage later went on to say My favorite music is the music that I haven t yet heard. I don t here the music I write: I write in order to hear the music I have [not] yet heard. This quote summarizes his philosophy on indeterminacy. This belief led to the creation of 4 33 , his recording of the sounds around you. The only thing specified is the length of the piece. It is said that he used 4.33 minutes which equals 273 seconds. And 273 centigrade = zero degrees where everything would be completely silent and atoms quite moving. The reason being is that the grocery retail industry is now becoming or has become an Oligopoly. When one is walking through the streets of Canada looking at places to shop for groceries, one may stumble across several options of grocery stores to choose from. • 40. Reflection Of Plato s View On Love By Socrates Finally, toward the end of the Symposium, Socrates speaks, giving an accurate account of love and the correct use of Eros. He opposes all of the other speakers and says that love is not all about our pleasure and sexual deviances, but to either impregnate the body and give life, or to impregnate the soul and pass on knowledge. Socrates speaks as if Eros is a love for the other person, to love someone so much that you want to enter into a bond that results in child rearing or a love for mankind that you want to share all your knowledge with them to better their soul. He continues that to be pregnant in the soul is better than to be pregnant in the body because when we are pregnant in the soul, there is more to be given to others then caring for a newborn. In this response from Socrates, it is hard to determine if he has it completely correct. I would imagine that without people being pregnant in the body, we would eventually run out of people to pass our knowledge on to. This, then, would have to be a both/and situation where each has a calling to one or the other or both, and both forms of love would then be equal. Socrates is then saying that love itself in not a god, but a messenger that is caught in between the divine realm of immortality and the earthly realm of the mortal. Love then can reach the heights of the gods bringing messages from man and returning to man with messages from god. Socrates is now showing that there is some divine link between man and the divine, and this is love. This also shines light on the fact that because each human had this link to the divine the human must in some way be part divine and part animal. Because each human can love, can reason, and has these animal instincts and desires, man must also be caught in between the divine and earthly worlds. Because we cannot physically move into that divine realm, then we must have an entity that is part of us and can move freely in between, this would be the soul. Socrates refutes all the other speeches about taking young boys as lovers for one s own gratification and love being a god that permits all thing in the name of pleasure. In conclusion, it is safe to say that, in our current era, Eros is absolutely ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
