2. Role Of Punishment In Puritan Society
Theft, murder, and adultery are some of the major crimes in the Puritan society. In the Puritan society
the teaching of God and evading sinful actions was widely encouraged. If any crime or sinful action
was portrayed, desperate measures had to be taken. Due to their holy teachings, Puritans believed the
punishments for any wrongful doing against their teachings should be forcefully handled. For
instance, punishment during the Puritan society were almost always public, to ensure nobody missed
the point (Cox, 2003). One of the most common punishments in the Puritan society was public
whippings. Public whippings were used to serve as consequences for small crimes, such as theft.
Individuals who were sentenced to whippings were entitled to twenty to forty lashes that usually
resulted to blood being shed (NVRHS, 2006). This example above shows how Puritans dealt with the
sinful act of stealing. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Due to the Puritan s society being highly shaped by their religious views, ministers encouraged people
to become aware of others criminal inclinations, in order to prevent other sins or crimes from
occurring (Miller, 2012, p. 1474). Public humiliation involved the branding of one s hand or being
forced to have walk around with a letter stitched on their clothing. For instance, one of the most
familiar consequences was having to wear the letter A if you was charged with adultery as portrayed in
the novel Scarlet Letter. Another way public humiliation was administrated was branding the first
letter of a committed crime on the criminal s hand. For example, when a person was caught stealing
twice they were ordered to be branded with the letter T on the palm of their

3. Internal Conflict At Gideon
Internal conflict is when the character has a problem that they deal with in a personal way. When a
character is dealing with internal conflict, no one else knows but themselves and the reader. External
conflict is when there is a problem that many characters are involved in. When a character is dealing
with external conflict, the antagonist of the story and a few other characters are involved. Internal and
External conflict are the same because they are both problems the characters deal with in the story.
The author introduces conflict after Gideon, their cook, saves the little boy from going blind. The
mother was so amazed with what he did, that she decided to tell everyone she knew. To the people,
what Gideon did was magical and the plant he used to help the boy needed to be found. But to Gideon

Hardship and loss of freedom comes to mind as I think about an immigrant black woman. If they had

Once becoming a part of a different society, she has to adapt to the ways that she is unfamiliar with.
She has to erase in a form of what she knows and feels is correct to from her true self. I am staring

5. The Battle Of The Confederate Home Front
During the American Civil War, the Confederate home front faced many challenges as the war
progressed. While the soldiers of the Confederacy went off to fight in the war, daily life of the
Confederacy had to continue. The Confederate community of Richmond, Virginia is an example of a
Confederate community that had to continue with the grinds of everyday life. The Daily Richmond
Enquirer is a great source to use to understand the events and attitudes of daily life in Richmond.
During the month of October in 1862, there were three main attitudes that were being expressed by the
citizens of Richmond, Virginia. The first attitude was resentment towards the North. The second was

These arrests showed the villainy of the Union and their intimidation of unarmed citizens. The second
account was published on Oct. 14th. This article reported that the Daily Richmond Enquirer had
received a letter from an informant in Missouri. The letter, as quoted, stated that, In short, our citizens
are being murdered by hundreds, imprisoned by thousands and robbed and plundered of their property
by the hundreds of thousands, and this you may report as truth, and nothing but the truth. All three of
the detailed accounts by the daily had helped reinforce the already present resentment that existed
between the Union and the citizens of Richmond. They resented the North because the Union was
pillaging their fellow Southerners. They felt that they were being vandalized and victimized by the
North. The second attitude expressed by the citizens of Richmond was optimism about the
Confederacy beating the Union and being a recognized nation. The Daily Richmond Enquirer had
multiple articles about the stance of the European nations on Confederate recognition. The
Confederate home front was very optimistic that European nations would recognize the Confederacy
quickly. The home front knew that if the Confederacy was recognized as a nation by the European
powers, then the Union would also be forced to recognize them as well. They also knew

From the formation of America to 1860, the people in this country were divided. This division was a
result of location and personal sentiments. Peace could not continue in a country filled with quarrels
that affected the common American. There is a common misconception that the American Civil War
was fought only over slavery, when in fact there were several other reasons for why the War Between
the States was fought. This being said slavery, the elect ion of Abraham Lincoln and the North and

8. The Foolishness Of Love Is A Force That Exceeds Our...

The Foolishness of Love
Romantic love is a force that exceeds our rational judgment. Out of nowhere, it descends upon us and
destroys our previous notions of ourselves, making us act in uncharacteristic ways. We do not choose
whom and when to love; and falling in love reminds us of how little control we have over our lives. In
spite of this, romantic love is often viewed today as a sure path to ever lasting happiness. Shakespeare,
however, was far more realistic in his portrayal of romance. In his plays, love often functions as more
of a treacherous force overcoming the characters rational selves than a source of ultimate fulfillment.
Falling in love is often against our best interests, and no one is more aware of this than Beatrice and
Benedick in Much Ado about Nothing. Both of them staunch bachelors, they know all too well that
love makes people vulnerable and often miserable. Beatrice is sensitive to inequality inherent in
marriage whereby a wife should subjugate herself to her husband. She calls men pieces of valiant dust
and insists she does not want to be ruled by them: Would it not grieve a woman . . . to make an
account of her life to a clod of wayward marl? (2.1.51 53). She values her independence. With her
sharp tongue and a quick wit, she has no problem keeping men at bay; and she prefers it that way.
Benedick also proudly rejects love. When Claudio admits his feelings for Hero, Benedick

11. Persuasive Essay On Society
People think of me as a mannequin. All show and no substance. It s not often that someone can say
that they have something in common with a celebrity; however, unfortunately I can. Brooke Shields,
the well known model turned actress that verbalized my thoughts, and I are alike in one way; both of
us have been molded into life size dummies. The object that best represents me is a mannequin. I have
discovered this through universal, personal and practical avenues of inquiry.
Firstly, we don t often think about how a life size dummy relates to us as humans or the impact they ve
had on our society as a whole; however, they play a major role in the way we view ourselves as
individuals and function as a collective society. We preach about how precious individuality is, but
intentionally or not, we often strive to become identical to the perceptions of perfection in society. As
a matter of fact, mannequins are often perceived as a universal image of perfection due to their
figures, the various on trend outfits they display, and sometimes even the human like faces painted
onto them. As young children, whenever we go shopping with our parents we would stumble across
displays that would showcase little boys and girls with cool , new outfits and toys and we would
attempt to convince our parents to buy them. As we get into our teen years, often as girls, we see the
mannequins as constant reminders of what we strive to be based on whatever the ideal body type may

Prohibition was strongly enforced in rural areas or small towns. In urban areas thesy loosely enforced

The belief that women are more romantically attracted to men caring for and acting in a nurturing and
comforting way to babies has become a rather popular opinion in today s society. The reason for this,
to many, is unknown, but the theme has made it into movies, books and even magazines. For example,
in the movie Marley and Me, Sebastian (the best friend) uses John s (the main character) child to
impress and grab the attention of a woman. Sebastian believes the child is an easy conversation starter
and the woman will think highly of him if she sees that he is responsible enough to take care of a

techniques, has become easier as new technology comes out. However, during the silent film era
synchrony was almost impossible to master. Today we hear the film soundtrack coming out of a
speaker that has been timed down to the millisecond. During the silent film era the soundtrack was a
live orchestra down in an orchestra pit below the screen or an organist in the back of the theater. There
are many factors that go into a successful performance of a silent film: a correct knowledge of tempo,

The silent film era was the birth of film in that it was the first time the public was able to see motion
picture images moving within a frame that are not physically there. Although as the title of the era
confirms there was no voice with the picture partly because it dated before recording techniques
became advanced enough using mixing and modern recording techniques. Because music was not
recorded at this point instead a live band, orchestra, or solo organist would perform at the theater.
Unlike today where a theater could easily show over twenty films at one time because they were all
filmed at the same time. During the early silent film era the film production process took much longer
and as a result would be released much further apart from each other. Instead of a copious amount of
movies to choose from for viewing most audiences would have three or four at most to choose from at
different times of the day. Live performers provided many issues including one of the most vital
methods of film music, which is synchrony. As with most professions inventers took it upon
themselves to solve the issue of synchrony and provide the audiences with an even better experience
other than watching people move on a screen. In this case the two inventors to work on this issue were
Mr. Theodore Presser and Mr. Thomas Edison who combined the phonograph for the audio part and
the vitagraph as the visual part. Later in 1926 an exhibition in New York City unveiled the Vitaphone.

What defines something as obscene? More over, what does the term obscenity mean? The

population. Obscenity is a constitutionally unprotected form of speech (About Us Art Law Library:
Obscenity. Avaliable at: http://ncac.org/resource/art law library obscenity) although obscenity may be
examined cautiously by few, the issue around the interpretation is deliberated in today s court system
regularly. The Hicklin or also known as the Roth test first declared a legal examination in 1868 to be
conducted for obscenity, the court held that all material tending to deprave and corrupt those whose
minds are open to such immoral influences was obscene, regardless of its artistic history. (Ducat, C.R.

literary, artistic, political, or scientific value (Waxman, O. (2016) Time) The later decision to retire the

21. The Purple Rose Of Cairo
Chapter 3 The third chapter will mainly discuss Woody Allen?s The Purple Rose of Cairo (1985) to
examine how a theme about cinema goers reflects a desire from the filmmaker and the audience. The
film fabricates a fantasy where the protagonist of a film called ?The Purple Rose of Cairo?, Tom
Baxter (enacted by Jeff Daniels), ?steps? out of the film during a screening. He joins Cecilia (starred
by Mia Farrow), a frustrated waitress and aggrieved wife who has watched this film countless times,
and starts an adventure in the real world. Confronting the chaos caused by Tom arbitrarily leaving the
screen, Gil Shepard, an actor who impersonates Tom, comes to persuade Tom to return to the film,
while pursuing Cecilia at the same time. In the end, Cecilia chooses to stay in reality but ends up alone
due to Gil abandoning her for his career in Hollywood. Allen sets the story background in New Jersey
during the Depression, when moviegoers frequently went to see films in order to escape from their
hopeless reality caused by underemployment and the market downturn of the 1930s. Allen was
especially inspired to create a film set in the 1930s, since this period coincided with his childhood, and
he recalled the passionate cinema audiences of the time (Allen and Bj?rkman, 2004). Established as a
reflexive fiction based on the ?past?, The Purple Rose of Cairo embodies Allen?s recollection of his
boyhood cinephilia. Thus the work bears autobiographical determination, representing Allen?s

22. How Big Is My World
How big is my world? Everyone says that Holland, or Hope College, is a bubble. In someway I can
agree with that statement, but I also know that because there are other things out there, it is just a
stepping stone to find out about the world. I have been lucky enough to been able to live in a safe
world due to my parents, but I have also been given the chance to explore what is out there. Some of
the ways that have given me a chance to understand how big the world is around me are through two
different roommate situations, previous experiences, and thinking big picture. Over the past four
years, I have had many different roommates, who all come with a different backstory. It is through
them that I have been given the chance to realize that my world had been bigger than theirs. My
freshman year roommate was from Michigan, went to a Christian school, and was valedictorian. My
high school experience was the exact opposite, Indiana, public school, and not number 1 in my class.
Our experiences were very different as she excelled in classes like religion and cultural heritage as her
school focused on those, but the science classes we took together I did a lot better. This helped me see
the world from understanding her background as she knew the more hypothetical and questioning
aspect whereas I knew the facts of what was around me. Though our experience together, I became to
realize how our educational experiences shaped us into how we saw the world.
Not only did she change how

23. Greek and Roman Military Influences in Modern Warfare
Current militaries have benefitted from the principles of ancient Greek and Roman warfare by
studying the ancient battles, tactics, and use of supplies to develop effective military plans. Current
militaries study and debate historical turning points of the ancient battles to understand how the
leaders planned and executed battles. The empires growth was due in part to the might and successes
of their military. The strength of their militaries came from many factors including their use of armor,
weapons, and military tactics. The empires leaders used these three advantages to create the superior
armies of their time. An important contributing factor to an army s success is armor for defense. An
army can have skilled soldiers, but cannot be successful without the right armor. Roman and Greek
armies wore similar types of armor. The Roman and Greek foot soldiers wore a square breastplate on
their torso. While the Romans only wore one greave on their left leg, Greeks wore greaves on both
legs. A greave was a sheet of metal worn to protect the legs (Horsepower: Harnessed...). Soldiers wear
greaves even in current day. Recently, the greaves have been upgraded to protect the legs from
Improvised explosive devices, such as those in Iraq (Frost, Quad Guard). Roman soldiers wore a
helmet that protected the neck, and came around to protect their face. The Greek s helmets were more
full and protective than the Roman helmets. Greek helmets covered their entire head and only left

24. The Media And Liberal Democracy
The Media and Liberal Democracy Name: Areez Somani Professor: Dr. David Hoogenboom Student
Number: 250644546 Due Date: July 19, 2015 Our society is based upon a set of key main ingredients
that have led us to today s era of information technology. This vast array of technological
advancements concerning the internet, television, mobile devices and even newspapers all share one
unique characteristic, they are controlled and manipulated by the media (Diamond, 2010, pg 5). When
referring to the media, this work refers to the channels that distribute news and its content. This
includes any forms of technology as long as there is an interface between message and the general
public. The media tends to project information in any way they see fit, mainly when concerning
political, racial and biased topics that are very sensitive in nature (Ungerleider, 1991. pg 24). In
essence, the media is one of the most powerful entities that exist because of the controlling dynamics
of information (Chan, 1994, pg 54). They can curve political agendas, promote racial class
subcultures, and create public opinion with regards to any social issues. Depending on the audience,
the way information is presented, or skewed , can create a dynamic lasting effect. History shows that
media has played a crucial role in the formation of certain prejudices we so often encounter every day
in our lives. In Canada and the United States, we are fortunate to live in an ideal

One of the most familiar constellations in the night sky aside from the Big and Little Dipper is Orion,
the Hunter. Made identifiable by the three bright stars that make up Orion s Belt , Orion is easily
recognized throughout the world due to the convenient position upon the celestial equator, allowing
the constellation to be seen from both the Northern and Southern Hemispheres. I chose this
constellation as my favorite because it was, in fact, one of the first myths that I had ever learned, and
also because it was the easiest constellation that I was able to find from my Constellation Atlas as a
child. The constellation of Orion is comprised of mostly of blue stars: young, hot burning, giant stars

Though Apollo was a hot headed god, as he was the god of the sun, he was also cunning. When he
knew that Orion was swimming far in the ocean away from Artemis, Apollo came to his sister and
challenged her to an archery contest. Artemis was incredibly proud of her abilities as an archer, and so,
eagerly accepted the challenge as a way of besting her brother. Artemis welcomed Apollo to point to
anything, and she would hit the target easily. Apollo pointed to a small dark speck on the horizon,
which he knew was Orion s head, and invited his sister shoot, which she did. Of course, Artemis hit
the speck true. It was only when Apollo had already left and Orion s body had washed ashore that
Artemis realized the cruel trick that her brother had pulled. In her grief, the Virgin Goddess turned her
love into stardust, and gave him a honored place in the heavens.
This is my myth of Orion. From the day that he had been born, Orion was a sickly, crippled child, with
little chance of survival. One day, when the boy was six years of age, his father took Orion to the

A totalitarian state, is a where the central government of a state does not tolerate any parties with
opposing views and exercises complete dictatorial rule over all or most aspects of life. Lenin, the
leader of the Bolsheviks, took many measures in an attempt to create a totalitarian state, including the
dissolution of Constituent Assembly, the use of decrees and the establishment of a secret police group
called the Cheka. However there were also some ways in which he failed to achieve full
totalitarianism. The most basic characteristics of a Totalitarian state, are lack of free speech and state
control over the media. This is important to establish social control over the state. Lenin s described
free speech as bourgeois prejudice , ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The creation of the secret police and the establishment of the gulags and labour camps, are signs that
Lenin had created a successful totalitarian state, and could assert physical control over the people. The
introduction of War Communism during the Russian Civil War, is evidence of Russian moving
towards a Totalitarian State. Many aspects of War communism were totalitarian in nature. For instance
the creation of a Supreme Economic Council, formed to take complete control over the Russian
highlights the central control over the most vital aspect of the state, that the Bolsheviks enforced.
Other measures include the requisitioning of excess grain from the Peasants. Many of these policies
were met with opposition, particularly among the agricultural peasants. This opposition was in turn
met with brutal force, which was another example of the nature of complete state authority. War
communism continued on until the end of the Civil war, by which time the Bolshevik forces had
succeeded in crushing all opposition. The success of the red forces meant that Russia was a step closer
in becoming a Totalitarian state, as they were now the most powerful party in Russia, with complete
control over all its territory. Upon the creation of the USSR, Lenin introduced new rule that would
ensure greater totalitarian control. Only communists would be able to stand for the soviets, and so this
meant that the communist party had the true control over the

28. Effects Of Murder In Macbeth
Murder is a damaging act to one s mind. After committing/assisting in a murder, the mind is changed,
and changes the overall person as well. These changes are different in all situations. They depend on
the level of involvement, what the person is like before, and how violent the actual murder is. The
most impactful element, however, is the violence of the murder. For example, Macbeth and Lady
Macbeth were described by Shakespeare both before and after the murder. This helps readers to
understand the characters mindsets and how the event has shaped them. One of the best examples of
murder s influence on the mind comes from Shakespeare s play Macbeth. Before committing any

One of the most active parts of the brain during a murder is the orbitofrontal cortex. This part of the

when the soldier was aware of shooting an innocent person in the simulation. there was consistently
greater activity in the lateral portion of the OFC when subjects imagined shooting civilians. A region
of the brain that tends to be less active during murder is the lingual gyrus. This region is the part of the
brain that would justify a murder. Increased activity would be seen when soldiers would kill enemies.
This could explain why the effect isn t as drastic on the brain when the killing seems justified, versus
the orbitofrontal cortex being more active in more of the unjustified murders, which can tend to be

In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. Now the earth was formless and empty,

A Description of Christian Beliefs About the Origins of The World
Christians believe that God created the universe. In Chapters 1 and 2 of Genesis, we are told that God
creates both the universe and everything that is in it. Thomas Aquinas, a leading scholar of the Middle
Ages, argued that Everything in the universe has a cause. Trace those causes back and there must have

This would explain how God managed to create the entire universe in just six days, though it is quite
hard to accept that as fact, as it is impossible to prove that it is right or wrong. It seems impossible that
creation could have been accomplished in a mere six days.
In Genesis one, note that no theory of evolution can be accommodated within it. Genesis is saying that
the earth came before the sun, grass and trees before sea life, and birds before land animals. So does
science contradict the Bible? Before one is able to answer this question, one must find out what the
scientific facts are, rather than the unproven theories created by Scientists. Some scientists are
Christians, who believe in God but also in evolution. There are many different views on the subject of
just how the earth was created. The Big Bang is just one of those theories.
The Big Bang is a very popular theory among both Christians and non Christians. However, it is not
totally unquestionable, if it were there would be no more arguments concerning the creation of the
world. The main question asked about the Big Bang is Who, or what triggered it? For Christians, it is
God who triggered the Big Bang. This theory backs that of Aquinas . They both argue that God was
the trigger in the creation.

This paper first gives a brief overview of the country of China and its economical background. Then,
it focuses on consumption as a market determinant of China s recent change in economic growth. The
paper analyzes the impacts of consumption and how it influences macro outcomes by comparing
statistics and linking them to an increase in consumption.

The effort put into this economic reform resulted in annual GDP growth rates of 10% for about 30
years (The World Bank, 2014). China s economy has grown as an incredible rapid speed.
System of Government
The Government of China, known as the People s Republic of China, is a communist system of
government. This means the state has the ability to control economic decisions. Therefore, it is mainly
the government that regulates the economy. The chief of state is President Xi Jinping, and the head of
government is Premier Wen Jiabao (Central Intelligence Agency, 2014). There is a unique political
system in place, and there is very little to no private ownership. This system aims for a classless
society.
Economy System
Since the economic reform, China s economy system was able to create a rapid growth of the
economy, turning China into one of the world s largest economies. As a communist state, the country
has implemented a socialist market economy, which is based on the control by the state and an open
market economy.

Consumption represents the spending behavior of consumers. It is the value of goods and services
produced in a country and consumed by its population. It is mainly determined by current income,
expectations on future income, savings and inflation. Consumption is normally the largest component
of GDP. However, in China, this consumption has been neglected for many years

Everything a person encounters in their life affects their view on the world. In The Alchemist by Paulo
Coelho, Santiago does not feel like he is fulfilling his life to its highest potential. In order to achieve
his full potential, he sells his sheep and takes off on a journey to fulfill his personal legend. The story
is not just about a boy trying to carry out his personal legend, it is about the symbolic aspects of life
and how everything in a person s life affects them. Fate and omens are main motifs in The Alchemist

symbolic stones from the king, the desert he traveled through and the treasure that was found.
Urim and Thummim are magic stones that Melchizedek gives Santiago to take on his journey bring
him comfort as they answer his questions and relieve his doubts about fulfilling his quest. The small
stones he keeps in his pocket remind him of the King who bestowed them upon him, along with
stories emphasizing the importance of following one s dreams. Towards the beginning of Santiago s

33. Taking a Look at a Whooping Cough
What is Whooping cough?
Whooping cough is a bacterial upper respiratory infection that leads to episodes of violent coughing.
The disease got its name because of the characteristic sound that is made when affected individuals
attempt to inhale; the whoop originates from the inflammation and swelling of the voice box that
vibrates when too much air comes in when one breathes after coughing. (Medline plus) Whooping
cough is a very contagious disease. It spreads through close contact that includes a transferring of oral
secretions or respiratory droplets from one person to another. So it s easily spread through the cough,
especially when people are in close contact, like living in the same house with a person who has
whooping cough. It can also spread through sneezes or anything that causes a secretion of respiratory
fluids. (CDC) the people whom can be affected are children who have not been immunized or people
whose last shot of the immunization was done ten or more years previously. There is evidence that
suggests the first outbreaks I whooping cough occurred in the 16th century. The bacterium that causes
the infection was not found until the beginning of the 1900 s.
Why target whooping cough?
Whooping cough is most commonly found in infants. If a child were to obtain whooping cough within
the first three months of his or her life, the infant is highly likely to be killed by the disease. The
reason for this is because of how difficult it is to identify. It starts out

The Battle of Bull Run was the first battle fought during the Civil War. It was a bloody battle and

battle in favor of the Confederacy, such as terrain, weather and technology. The Confederacy was able
to use railroads to transport troops to battle, which had never been done before. This allowed them to
continue fighting while the Union troops were growing tired and weak. Since the battle was fought on

addition, President Lincoln aimed to re establish Federal law in the Southern states that had seceded
from the nation. He also wanted the Union Army to stop Confederate legislators from meeting in the

The weather on the day of battle was hot, in the mid 80 s to low 90 s, and humid. The heat had a

Many people and organizations use writing and visual methods to persuade readers to their view. In
such pieces, the author will use many different tricks and appeals in order to draw the reader to his or

these appeals can be broken down into three main types logical, emotional and ethical. A logical
argument uses facts, statistics and surveys to back up what the author is saying and is commonly

41. The Importance Of Names In Song Of Solomon
People choose names for a reason, whether it is so that the child takes on a certain personality, based
on who they are named after, or so that he or she may carry on the name of a beloved family member.
Many names that are popular today are names from the Bible, since most of the biblical characters
possess characteristics that parents would want their child to have. Names like Noah, Jacob, David,
and Miriam, are names currently in the top 1000 child names in the world, and they are all biblical
names. Names from the Bible are also found in many works of literature, like Toni Morrison s Song of
Solomon, a coming of age story about a young man during the mid twentieth century. The reader is
introduced to multiple characters with biblical names, which correspond to the characters
personalities. In the book Song of Solomon, the characters take on the role of their biblical names.
Reba, Milkman s mother, can most closely be associated with Rebecca from the Bible, as their names
are nearly identical. In the Bible, Rebecca is known for her loyalty and devotion to her son Jacob,
whom she favors over her other son, Esau. She willingly ruins her relationship to one of her sons and
also her husband, Isaac, both of which she loves dearly. In Song of Solomon, Reba cherishes her
daughter Hagar, and makes sacrifices to please her, one of which includes the donation of her diamond
ring, which she miraculously wins when she walks into a Sears store. The winning of the ring shows

42. Civil Litigation Procedures And Criminal Procedures
The difference among Civil Litigation procedures and Criminal procedures
An individual going to a lawyer to seek help in resolving an issue and seek monetary damages against
someone they believe has done them wrong. The attorney conducts the interview and the staff will
interview witness and perform legal research all in an effort to see if there is a basis for a cause of
action that is legitimate against wrongdoers. This begins the relationship between client and lawyer
which is solidified by the execution of a retainer agreement. In the retainer agreement there is an
understanding of the way that a lawyer will be paid. The Lawyer will begin the process of informing
the defendant of the complaint against them, and damages sought in the form of a demand letter. If the
defendant chooses not to answer the demand letter it s time to prepare for trial. The lawyer works on
jurisdiction to find the correct court who can hear the case. When the determination for jurisdiction is
set following will be venue selection. Venue allows for an impartial jury and focuses on the
convenience of the defendant. During this time claims and motions can be filed such as Complaint,
Answer, Counterclaim, Cross Claim, Motion to strike, and Motion to dismiss. After the reply or a
dismissal motion has been filed the discovery process can begin. The Discovery consists of two forms:
oral and written. Discovery that is oral include depositions and written discoveries include,
interrogatories, request

43. Parkinson s Disease and Tourette s Syndrome Essay
Parkinson s Disease and Tourette s Syndrome
Parkinson s Disease is a literally crippling neurodegenerative disorder, manifested in about 1% of the
aged population. People who have Parkinson s Disease gradually lose control of their movements;
specific symptoms include, tremor, slowness of movement, stiffness, difficulty in walking, and loss of
balance. (1) Evidence strongly suggests that Parkinson s Disease is the result of severe cell loss in the
substantia nigra. This brain structure is principally involved in the production of dopamine. (2)
Dopamine, among other functions, is the neurotransmitter involved in initiation of movement. Hence,
the link between dopaminergic cell loss and cessation of voluntary movement, as manifested ... Show

where movement is planned or motor behavior is organized. Surely enough, research done on the
basal ganglia, namely the striatum and the caudate nucleus, has revealed that dopamine indeed
impacts on these areas more prominently in Tourette s patients than in unaffected controls. (5,6) The
increased dopamine effect in Tourette s patients may be due to two mechanism. One, the patients may
produce more dopamine, hence, their receptors are over stimulated, leading to excessive neuronal
firing, in turn leading to involuntary movements. However, this theory seems to not hold, as
presumably neurons would activate compensatory mechanism to deal with the increase in
neurotransmitter concentration. If really dopamine was present in excess, one would expect receptor
sites to down regulate. One can assume that dopamine is not present in excess in Tourette s patients. A
second mechanism has been proposed. According to this, the dopamine levels in Tourette s patients
are equivalent to non patients, but their receptor sites are supersensitive. This theory seems to hold
true and has been successfully confirmed in the laboratory. Research surrounding dopamine binding in
implicated structures of the brain yielded, that binding to D2 dopamine receptors in the caudate
nucleus was higher in the sibling

44. Age Of New Imperialism Analysis
During the fifteenth and sixteenth centuries, Europe was experiencing an Age of Discovery, led by the
spanish. During this time, nations in Europe were mostly ruled by absolute monarchs, and the lower
classes were repressed. Furthermore, Europe was in constant religious warfare, as Protestantism had
recently arose and created divisions in once united territories. Centuries later, Europe once again
began reaching for international control. This resurgence of exploration is known as the Age of New
Imperialism. The European nations during the Age of New Imperialism had modern governments,
including Socialist and Communist parties, and had just arose from a time of internal turmoil and
revolutions. During this time, from the late nineteenth century ... Show more content on

During the Age of Discovery, most nations had absolute monarchs, and thus the glory received from
expeditions abroad would directly go to the monarch, rather than to the nation itself. This is evidenced
by the extravagant palaces of Versailles and el Escorial, which were constructed using the profits from
the Age of Discovery. Furthermore, many European nations had impoverished lower classes, that only
suffered while the extravagant monarchs indulged in the new income from overseas trade. In contrast,
during the nineteenth century and the Age of New Imperialism, the glory received from conquest
would increase the nationalism of the entire country. This patriotic fervor gripped nations and was the
cause of both unification and warfare. Specifically, this nationalism and glory was used by King
Charles X of France who gained more power by increasing the patriotism of his people. Despite his
absolutist rule, the people of France did not rebel, as they were proud of their nation s African
expansion. In conclusion, the motivation of glory while expanding is similar in both of the ages of
international growth of European

46. Accommodations Project
The disability group that I would like to focus on for my Accommodations Project is blindness and
low vision. According to the textbook, the statutory definition of blindness is based on visual acuity
and field of vision. Visual acuity is the ability to clearly distinguish forms or discriminate details at a
specified distance (Heward 345). For example, Mary is able to see the words on the projection screen
from her desk and she can see it clearly. Having 20/20 vision does not mean that a person has perfect
vision it simply means that they can see at a distance of 20 feet. The American Foundation for the
Blind defines being legally blind as having vision no better than 20/200 corrected vision in the better
eye, or a visual field not extending beyond 20 degrees in the better eye, or a visual efficiency of no
more than 20 percent. The legal refers to a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There are many instructional strategies that are effective in teaching students who are blind or that
have low vision. One example of an instructional strategy would be seating the student in the front of
the classroom so that they can hear the teacher s instructions clearly (Allan). A student that is blind is
unable to see written instructions that are on a chalkboard so the teacher will have to read the
instructions aloud. Another example would be to avoid leaving doors and drawers ajar or chairs out
from under tables and desks (Allan). If there are items in the walkway of a student that is blind they
could potentially fall and get hurt which is why it is also important for the teacher to keep from
rearranging the classroom. If the teacher rearranges the classroom they should inform the student that
they have done so. The two examples that I provided are effective because they help the student be
successful in the classroom despite their

47. Hypertension Of Hypertension And Secondary Hypertension
Hypertension is defined as blood pressure greater than 140/90 mm Hg on two or more blood pressure
readings taken at each of two or more visits after initial screening. There are two types of hypertension
which are the primary (essential) hypertension and secondary hypertension. Essential hypertension is
referred to patients with hypertension without any secondary identifiable cause. Secondary
hypertension has an identifiable cause, such as renal artery stenosis or pheochromocytoma, and is
managed as part of the primary condition (Papadakis, 2014).
The Joint National Committee published JNC 7 in 2003 which established different classification of
hypertension. According to JNC 7, blood pressure was considered normal when systolic was less than
120 mmHg and diastolic was less than 80 mmHg. The prehypertension range was systolic 120 139
mmHg or diastolic 80 89 mmHg. Stage 1 hypertension was categorized as systolic of 140 159 mmHg
or diastolic 90 99. Stage 2 hypertension was categorized as systolic greater than 160 mmHg or
diastolic greater than 100 mmHg (JNC 7, 2003).
Hypertension is a major medical problem in America with high morbidity and mortality. According to
Center for Disease Control statistics released on 2015, it is estimated that about 70 million American
adults have high blood pressure, with a ratio of 1 out of every 3 adults in America living with
hypertension (CDC, 2015). In 2012, CDC conducted a statistical analysis of data collected by National

48. The Dressmaker Analysis
Kate Winslet stars in a captivating film of rediscoveries, retributions and reds. The Dressmaker
(2015), directed by Jocelyn Moorhouse, explores Myrtle Tilly Dunnage s dramatic return to her small
hometown of Dungatar, a dump located in the middle of nowhere in the Australian outback. Sent away
from the town as a child after being held responsible for a murder, Tilly has returned to seek resolution
of her murky memories and to take revenge on those who mistreated her. Now a talented dressmaker,
Tilly uses her skills to manipulate the townspeople into revealing the intricate secrets that led to her
exile. Throughout the film, powerful symbolism present in fire, mirrors and clothing signifies Tilly s
resolution from past issues. FIRE I m ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Their outwardly pristine appearance juxtaposes with the drab, unkempt town with peeling paint and
rusty fences, where spousal rape, adultery and paedophilia lie just below the surface. Through this
leverage of the ability to transform and astound, Tilly is able to gain information to achieve her
objective of discovering the truth behind the events of her past. The promise to transform Gertrude
into the most striking girl in the room and Marigold s] dress looking better than everyone else are the
beginnings of the truth being unravelled and rubbish revealed. In addition, the juxtaposition of colours
in Tilly s clothes compared to the townspeople symbolise Tilly s status as a lowly outsider , someone
seen as guilty of a ruthless murder. The consistently dreary colour palette of the schoolteacher s
clothing despite the designer masterpieces surrounding her allure to her fabricated witness report,
symbolising her selfish desire to remain unexposed in fear of Tilly s mission for revenge. Jocelyn

providing a compelling reflection on aspects of Australian culture. Through powerful symbolism
