World War II ended in 1945, but America could not rest....
World War II ended in 1945, but America could not rest. Serious discussion about reorganization
began in Congress and the military department in 1944 and aroused much public interest (Trask 1997).
Because the Air Force played such a large role, discussion of separating the Air Force from the Army
Air Forces (AAF) began. A proposal was created to establish one department for the United States
Armed Forces, combining all the military branches under one department. On 19 December 1945,
President Truman sent a message to Congress recommending a single department of national defense
with three coordinate branches land, sea, and air. (Trask 1997). Management of Military and foreign
policies were needed during peacetime as they were during ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

The National Security Act of 1947 not only created the CIA, but it also separated the Air Force from
the United States Army Air Forces (AAF). This act established a new Department of the Air Force and
the U.S. Air Force (Trask 1997). The importance of National Security in the 1940s was still present
during President Regan s administration in the 1980s. To strengthen strategic deterrence, President
Reagan revived the B 1 advanced bomber and approved acquisition of the B 2 stealth bomber (Trest
1998). The United States Air Force has adapted since the Cold War era since there is no longer a need
for such a large force. The modern United States Air Force has aircraft designed to destroy air and
ground targets, and their cargo aircraft can be used to support humanitarian aid across the globe. The
United States Air Force is an active component of the United States Cyber Command and combating
cyber attacks against America. The Air Force has created a Reconnaissance Squadron that operates
Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAV). The United States Air Force has been involved in the Korean War,
Vietnam War, Gulf War, and is still active in the Global War on Terrorism.
The National Security Act of 1947 created a cabinet level, civilian Secretary of Defense to preside
over separate departments of the Army, Navy, and Air Force. It institutionalized the wartime Joint
Chiefs of Staff (JCS), established a National Security Council (NSC) in the White House to

Nickel and Dime
Nickel and Dimed is about a woman, Barbara Ehrenreich, working at a number of low income jobs
and writing about the experience. Barbara moves to three different cities in the United States to
experience poverty and working conditions in those cities. Barbara spends about a month in each
different city, where she works as a waitress, maid, and sales assistant, and reports on her experiences.
She concludes by pointing out how difficult it is for low income employees to get by and advocates
policies to provide more social supports or increased wages. I liked Nickel and Dimed because it
revealed to me the realities of the working poor. I have learned that some people end up staying in
motel rooms that cost twice as much as an apartment, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The service industry is often underpaid for the work they do, and showing them that you appreciate
and value their work can make all the difference in the world. This next part of the book finds Barbara
in Minneapolis, working at a Wal Mart in the women s clothing section. There is a link between one s
personal appearance and one s financial situation that is brought to my attention in this section. I was
bothered by the author s findings that Wal Mart caters to the lower income families. They offer
inexpensive food items loaded with calories and very little nutritional value and clothes that are
cheaply made and designed to fit overweight people. Much of the food available to low income people
is loaded with empty calories, which leads to obesity, however, their physical appearance become less
important than food in their belly and a roof over their head. Even Barbara, making 7 dollars an hour
at Wal Mart, seeks help from a charitable agency. They prove unable to help her yet they load her up
with a stack of sugary and unhealthy food items. People who have limited budgets and are in poor
health still require their needs to be met. I think it is wonderful that Wal Mart caters to these
customers. The working class often uses Wal Mart as a place to escape, if only for a little while, and
not feel as though they are looked down upon. Class status exists in America and is often exploited by

Access Control In Healthcare
(1) The importance of access controls in addition to audit controls.
Understanding the importance of access controls and audit controls are two of the main steps for
implementing a successful compliance plan within all healthcare organizations. Three of the important
steps in addressing ways to maintain and utilize the access controls are authentication, authorization,
and audit (Gelzer, Acker, Schneider, 2008). Authentication is used differently within the healthcare
organization on how they create the access to all credentialed users to the data in a patient s PHI.
Authorization is assigned to all the users on when and how they are allowed to access specific data
within a patient s PHI. Lastly, it is the process of an audit trail that ... Show more content on

Profile of a Hate Crime Offender Essay
Profile of a Hate Crime Offender
Sterilized from emotion, hate crime, also called bias crime, is those offenses motivated in part or
singularly by personal prejudice against other because of a diversity race, sexual orientation, religion,
ethnicity/national origin, or disability. Hate crimes are committed out of anger, ignorance, and lack of
knowledge of another s ideas and beliefs. There are many causes for an individual to commit a hate
crime. Also, many different profiles fit the description of a hate crime offender. There are ways to
prevent and control hate crimes, but they will always be present in society as long as every person has
the right to express his or her opinion.
The term ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Hate crimes are also known by other names. The most commonly employed of such terms is bias
crime, perhaps because it accurately emphasizes that such offenses often arise out of prejudice toward
another group of individuals. In addition, Howard Ehrlich (1990), director of the Prejudice Institute at
Townson State University has coined the term ethno violence to include acts that do not arise to the
legal standard of a crime, but contain an element of prejudice. These hate incidents may, for example,
include the use of ethnic slurs or the exclusion of members of targeted groups from social activities at
the workplace.
From a psychological perspective, prejudice refers to a negative attitude toward individuals based on
their perceived group membership for example, their race, religion, ethnicity, or sexual orientation.
Though as a form of discriminatory behavior, hate crimes often have an attitudinal dimension, the
relationship between prejudice and criminal behavior tends to be complex. There is reason to believe
that certain hate offenses result from some personal bias or hatred. In the extreme case, a hatemonger
may join an organized group in order to devote his life to destroying a group of people he considers
inferior.
At times, certain prejudices become narrowly targeted. Because behavioral scientists have

Cognitive Behavioral Theory Essay
Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) is a short term, problem centered therapy that is used to address
psychopathology within the individual (Beck, 1995). This model of therapy is used to address issues
of depression, anxiety, eating disorders, relational problems, and drug abuse, and can be utilized when
working with individuals, as well as within group and family modalities. The core aspects of this
therapy include collaboration and participation by the client, a strong alliance between therapist and
client, and an initial focus on current problems and functioning (Beck, 1995). The theory of CBT
emphasizes the relationship between the individual s thoughts feelings and behaviors, which is seen as
being the underlying cause of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Once an automatic thought occurs within the individual, it triggers a feeling, which in turn triggers the
individual s response, such as a behavior and/or physiological response. For example, after a young
child begins to pick up his blocks to be put away, his mother rubs him on the back and gives him
praise for his actions. His automatic thought may be, I am good when I put away blocks, triggering a
feeling of confidence, an increased level of physical energy, and the behavior of putting away the
remaining blocks.
Automatic thoughts can be neutral, positive, or negative. We all have our own automatic thoughts as
we move through our day to day lives and interact with others. In regards to individuals with
psychological disorders, the cognitive model looks at how negative thoughts influence the individual s
feelings and behaviors (Beck, 1995). From a CBT lens, it is the negative automatic thoughts that an
individual has that perpetuate symptoms of psychological disorders, the occurrence of negative mood,
uncomfortable physiological responses, and maladaptive or inappropriate behaviors (Beck, 1995).
While we all have moments of experiencing negative automatic thoughts, for those with psychological
disorders, and more pervasive difficulties in living, negative thoughts are often experienced in
situations that are neutral, producing negative feelings that lead to maladaptive behaviors or responses
that would not

Becoming A Real Estate Investor
Many people hold on to the belief that real estate investing is a risky thing to do. Even those that are
investors will tell you it s a risky business, but if you stick with it in the long run the risk takers will
come to realize that this is the way out to be living the lives they are meant to live. It could be that
money is tight and it s putting a hold on becoming an investor or the uneasy feeling of thinking if it all
doesn t go as planned. This is a leap of assurance that will change the lives of many that want or have

The law differentiates between the investor and the homeowner because the investor has taken on
large improvements based on the previous state of affairs where the homeowner has not. This means
that the investor gained site specific assurance where the homeowner did not, even if they seek out to
maintain the zoning classification not only on their property, but on the whole neighborhood. Hence,
several courts have specifically held that neighbors have no eternally vested rights in the perpetuation
of an existing zoning classification (Stahl, Kenneth A). In most cases this is why there are some
neighborhoods around the metropolitan area where there are signs that read My community is not for
sale as a way of protesting. In a way this seems unfair for the communities that must deal with new
development within the area without having a say which makes most neighbors somewhat aggravated
with the city s decision making and the benefits it gives investors in what they do with a property. On
the other hand people need to realize the essential aspect of new property development, this is
motivation for investors to form an important part of identity to help shape communities where the
property can serve as an important focus that gives meaning to residents within society. Therefore, it is
important to note that the Property and Relative Status is another factor that needs to be accounted for

A chemical change is a change that alters the identity of a substance. A chemical change can be
identified by five things: change in mass, formation of a precipitate, release of heat and/or light, color
change, or giving off gas. Physical changes occurred in four out of the eight experiments completed in
this lab. The first was experiment one, the salt and water. The salt was added to water but when the
water evaporated the salt remained. The water changed to the vapor form of water and the salt did not
change. The second was experiment two, the candle. When the candle was lit the heat given off from
the fire melted the wax beneath it. Melting is a physical change because the liquid wax is still wax, its
usual form is just a solid. Experiment four dealt with ripping paper. This was a physical change
because, although the paper was being ripped apart, it was (and still is) paper. The smaller pieces did
not change the mass or any other factor of it except the surface area of each piece. Experiment seven
dealt with vinegar being added to milk. The vinegar did not change but the milk was curdled by the
vinegar. Although the milk was curdled, the milk remained milk. The composition stayed the same.
Each of these experiments showed no change in a substance so as it changed to another substance.
Chemical changes occurred in five out of the eight experiments completed in this lab. Although the

Individualism In The Bean Trees
A Search for Something New One s individuality is what sets them apart from everyone else. The
Bean Trees by Barbara Kingsolver develops the story of a very strong woman, Taylor Greer who has
made it her goal to establish her own individuality. This novel follows the once named Marietta Greer
on her journey from her roots in Pittman County, Kentucky to her new adventure out west where she
changes her name, her outlooks, and her way of life. On the journey to self discovery, Taylor realizes
that she must discover how to balance her individualism with her family community.
The theme of the balance of individuality and community is prevalent throughout The Bean Trees. The
reader is introduced to Taylor s unique individuality combined with the community ideal in Kentucky.

Gang Life By Robert J. Duran Essay
The book, Gang Life in Two Cities by Robert J. Durán to put simply is about the gang life in Denver,
CO and Ogden, UT. Durán wrote this book to share his research findings. When Durán had to move to
Huntsville, UT (but went to school in Ogden) he found himself immersed in an area where gangs were
becoming popular. Durán, an ex gang member himself was curious on how and why gangs operate. He
found this research important, because he saw firsthand how society had a role in the formation of
gangs. Duran felt that it needed to be brought to light what he witnessed while being a gang member
himself and when he conducted his research. This book was different than other literature that had
been produced, because Duran was able to get closer and inspect the deeper characteristics of gang life
and gang members themselves. This is something that other researchers in the field are typically not
able to accomplish. He took on the perspective of investigating what role racial oppression had with
the development of gangs. His perspective and his ex gang membership background allowed him to be
more trusted by all the gang members that he interviewed for this research. As mentioned previously
Duran did conduct interviews as part of his data collection, but this wasn t his full methodology.
Duran used a multimethodological approach termed ethnography. Ethnography method allowed Duran
to gather historical analysis, non participant and participant observation, semi structured

Examples Of Emily Dickinson
Emily Dickinson: Ambivalence in Nature Emily Elizabeth Dickinson was an American poet from the
mid nineteenth century. She had lived reclusively with her parents, composing approximately 1,800
known works of poetry. When she tried to get some of them published, they were rejected for their
strange punctuation and capitalization. Dickinson refused to change her writing style and eventually
gave up on poetry. Only until four years after her death was all of her poetry discovered and published
by a neighbor and close friend. Since Dickinson never thought her works would be published, none of
her poems had titles. Literary scholars identified and numbered these poems 1 1800. It is also
acceptable to identify these poems by their first line. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Unlike in A Bird came down the Walk, Dickinson is interacting with nature in A narrow Fellow in the
Grass, and she, once again, can be seen experiencing a feeling of ambivalence about nature. When
Dickinson writes His notice instant is (4) she seems to describe the two being spontaneously spooked
by each other s presence. However, later in the poem, Dickinson says: Several of Nature s People I
know and they know me I feel for them a transport Of Cordiality (17 20).
By expressing her thoughts with words such as cordiality, she suggests that the snake, although
potentially dangerous and frightening, can also be calm and gracious. The snake can represent both
sides of the spectrum and strengthening Dickinson s claim of nature s ambivalence. Dickinson s poem,
Apparently with no surprise, expresses her same theme of confusion about nature. In the beginning of
the poem, Dickinson says:
Apparently with no surprise,
To any happy flower,
The frost beheads it at its play,
In accidental power.
The blond assassin passes on. (1 5)
She is explaining the process of flowers dying to the cold frost overnight. With her language and
comparison of the frost to an assassin, one can assume that Dickinson disapproves of nature s brutal
actions. However, in the first line of the poem, Dickinson introduces the events as no surprise, so she
understands that it s a normal course of action in terms of nature and that time will go on. Later in the
poem she

Analysis Of The Poem For Whom The Bellstone
The ideas presented in John Donne s poem For Whom the Bell Tolls, heavily contrast the ideas
presented in Paul Simon s song, I Am a Rock. John Donne demonstrates that we are all apart of
humanity and mankind and how all humans have a connection with one another. Paul Simon contrasts
this overall idea by demonstrating that people are sick of society and want to be isolated from
humanity. The information presented by John Donne and Paul Simon are unique, but have very
contrasting ideas as they pertain to humanity.
One clear contrast between the pieces of literature, are two specific lines. In Donne s poem, he states
No man is an island, while Simon states in his song that I am an island. The island represents the

Simon uses several phrases to demonstrate the protection built to separate oneself from humanity. For
example, I ve built walls, a fortress deep and mighty that none my peneratre. A person can choose to
build a fortress where they can be safe from attack, safe from pain, and hence never need to shed any
tears. The room that is cozy as a womb becomes a tomb. The heart, given enough time, will become
hard and incapable of any feeling. Simon uses an individual who is hurt, to showcase the retreat to
safety. This is okay for a certain extent of time, but sadly, some stay inside. They hide in their fortress,
like a turtle drawn into its armored shell. John Donne contrasts this idea using the line A part of the
main, and implies everyone is together and how living in solitude is not living, but only existing.
John Donne s poem demonstrates we all have a role within the world, and our contributions are never
ignored, hence the last line, It tolls for thee, referencing funeral bells. The last line implies that the bell
rings for you, the reader, and how you are acknowledged as a human being and as a member of
society. Paul Simon s song contrasts this idea with the last four lines of the song, I am a rock, I am an
island, and a rock feels no pain, and an island never cries. The song is a declaration of an individual
who was not a rock, but needed people, and had been

Unbiased And Neutral Perspectives Essay
In a world that filled with disputes and disagreements, it is somehow difficult to describe a conflicting
event in a neutral tone based on one s own judgment, typically for those historians who attempted to
examine the events occurred in the past. As a matter of fact, people s perspectives may be influenced
by many conditions such as their cultural identities, genders, religions, emotions etc. Therefore, it is
more likely that historians tend to hold biased view that may affect their tone in neutrality. However,
to what extent can historians, or more generally the people, learn the history from an unbiased and
neutral perspective? In general, as long as people equally analyze the view points from both sides and

Eventually, the war resulted in the split of Korean territory into North Korea and South Korea, and the

costing human lives and national expenses, not that the United States don t have the strength to battle.
If this event was described by an unbiased outsider, then it is more likely to be: The Koreans started a

eventually the war was ceased.
Not surprisingly that the Chinese and the North Korean began to spread the rumors that the United

The s Perspective On Alcohol Abuse
Bruffee s Perspective on Alcohol Abuse Bruffee was unsuccessful in grabbing my attention because
his persuasive ways were weak and ineffective. I find his persuasiveness to be imprecise with no
correlation between binge drinking and loneliness. For instance, his claims are supported based on
personal experiences and personal observations such as students having difficulty making a new group
of friends, being desperate to belong and creating an academic background. Unlike Weschler, Bruffee
does not use scientific studies, real examples and realistic solutions to adequately connect binge
drinkers and introverts; therefore, Bruffee is less successful because he failed to support many of his
claims, and his conclusion is incomplete. First of all, there is some credibility in his article trying to
capture the reader interest in why binge drinking is an issue on college campuses, in which he
provides statistic reports with cause and effect. However, credibility gets lost when he uses himself as
an example of why students join fraternities. Bruffee says that one of the reasons he joined was
because he felt desperate to belong. In addition, Bruffee also implies that Fitting in motivates
freshmen students to join fraternities and sororities which leads them to binge drinking. In my own
perspective, his claims are lacking support and based on assumptions of his own experience that
comes off as vague and inaccurate; most of the students would not join a fraternity just because

The Effect Of Sleep On The Regulation Of Emotional...
Introduction The goal of this study was to investigate the role of sleep in the regulation of emotional
reactivity and mood, and in particular the role of rapid eye movement (REM) sleep. The research team
led by Rosales Lagarde measured the impact of total sleep deprivation (TSD) by evaluating subjective
responses to frustration and aversive stimuli. It was found that coping skills and emotional regulatory
abilities were decreased along with decision making skills following REM sleep disturbances. It was
also found that the subjects that experienced disturbances in REM sleep displayed a greater degree of
impulsiveness when faced with a risky decision and favored utilitarian judgments. The data was
collected using functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) imaging of the brain during the various
stages of the experiment, and during the administration of the Emotional Reactivity Task. It was found
that there is a greater and longer lasting activation of the amygdala while viewing negative stimuli,
and specifically following TSD. This study was based on previous research that suggests that REM
sleep plays a significant role in emotional regulation, as brain areas associated with emotion are
specifically activated during REM sleep cycles. These include the amygdaloid complex, medial and
orbital frontal cortices, and posterior association areas. Background Other related studies have
evaluated the effect of REM sleep in animals and emotional reactivity. It has been found

Answer:
The physiologic effects of the opioids withdrawal syndrome include, arthralgias, diarrhea, myalgias,
abdominal cramping, rhinorrhea, piloerection, lacrimation, insomnia, and yawning as well as
temperature dysregulation. It is greatly suspected that Mr. HR was experiencing an opioid withdrawal
syndrome due to his medical presentations, such as, rhinorrhea, muscle aches, mild sweating and
increased lacrimation.
There are two medication management when a provider suspects the patient is abusing opiates. First,
methadone is one of the acute medication managements for the opioid withdrawal syndrome. It can be
used in outpatient and inpatient setting. The initiate dose is 20 to 30 mg, then increased to 40 to 60 mg
if the patient still shows signs of withdrawal. Besides methadone, clonidine is another regimen and
can be used in an outpatient basis. The initial dose is 0.1mg PO TID, and the maximum dose is 0.4
mg, PO, TID. If the patient s systolic blood pressure below 90 mmHg, then clonidine is held. Both
medications should slowly tapered, if the patient s withdrawal symptoms are suppressed. (McCarron,

The confinement of females under mental and physical distress is the central theme in Gustave

Wilkie Collins The Woman in White depicts the story of two women who are deceived and
incarcerated in a private asylum. These asylums proliferated in the mid nineteenth century as
alternatives to the established large scale public hospitals/asylums. This assignment will compare and

Flaubert prefigures this when she goes to confession.
When she went to confession, she made up little sins so as to stay there longer, kneeling in the
shadows, her hands joined, her face against the screen beneath the whispering of the priest. The
metaphors of the betrothed, the spouse, the celestial lover and the eternal marriage, such as recur in
sermons, excited a strange sweetness deep in her soul (p34).
Irony is another method Flaubert used to depict confinement. Thus, by ironically undercutting the
romance in the novel with realism he satirically pokes fun at the bourgeoisie society. This is apparent
when Emma throws her wedding bouquet into the fire to symbolize the end of her marriage, just
before she becomes pregnant (). In her introduction to Madame Bovary, Roberts quotes,
This subtle use of irony always leads Emma back to reality, that works against her vision and desire of
things, it is this tense alternation of feeling, pathos and irony of intimacy and estrangement that make
up the sweet and sour of Madame Bovary

Title Not one person from Sandy Hook, Connecticut ever thought this sort of event would ever

Throughout school, Lanza was known for his intelligence, but he seemed nervous to many. Teachers

His childhood was not abnormally rough. Yet again raising the question, why? Adam was only twenty

many others at a very young age. Lanza did not show signs before the massacre, but he was surely

Young readers around the world could relate to many of the themes and issues in the novel. Today The
Catcher in the Rye has sold over 60 million copies and continues to sell around a quarter million each

his novel pushed Salinger to long for privacy. He refused as many interviews as possible and even had
his photo removed from the back covers of each book. To escape the public eye he fled to England for
two months. In 1953, only two years after the release of The Catcher in the Rye, Salinger packed his
things and moved to a 90 acre property in Cornish, New Hampshire. His new home had no running
water, electricity, or working telephone. During this time he did everything in his power to isolate
himself from the public and his literary output came to an abrupt halt. In a rare 1962 interview with

American Revolution Loyalists
Only a tiny fraction of the books written on the American Revolution are devoted to the loyalists the
residents of the 13 colonies who chose to leave their homes rather than become citizens of the new
republic. Such a nation bound approach to the writing of American history implies that the lives of
those who left were not significant. Yet they were, and Maya Jasanoff, who teaches history at Harvard,
has provided a richly informative account of those who made the choice to embrace imperial Britain.
As earlier historians of the Revolution have pointed out, the loyalists tended to have strong
connections to the imperial administration, belong to the Anglican Church and possess close business
or family ties to Britain. But not all who left fitted ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Near the end of the Paris peace negotiations that ended the war, a small but important amendment was
added to the resulting treaty that prohibited the British from carrying away any Negroes, or other
property. When he became aware of this proviso, Sir Guy Carleton, the commander of British forces
in North America, acted. Charged with the task of evacuating 20,000 troops and 35,000 loyalists from
New York, he made securing the freedom of the black loyalists a priority. He expedited the provision
of documents establishing their freedom and hurried them onto a fleet of ships headed for Nova
Scotia. The speed of this sequence of events infuriated George Washington. But Carleton responded
that it was a matter of honor. The Negroes in question, he explained, I found free when I arrived in
New York, I had therefore no right . . . to prevent their going to any part of the world they thought
proper. Earlier, when Lord Dunmore, the colonial governor of Virginia, promised freedom to
bondsmen who joined the British forces, as many as 20,000 including slaves belonging to Washington,
Thomas Jefferson and Patrick Henry made the risky decision to escape. Jasanoff refers to this as an
emancipation, though she might better have described it as a slave revolt, larger than any the Americas

The Physician-Paternalistic Relationship
In our society and classrooms, more often than not, it is argued that when a physician and their patient
have a paternalistic relationship, it is deemed unacceptable and needs to be addressed. However,
Komrad argues that a paternalistic relationship can actually be a beneficial factor between a physician
and their patient. Komrad creates the concept of a limited paternalism where it preserves an individual

components of this paternalism is acknowledging that from the very beginning of a physician patient
relationship, it is an asymmetrical relationship because of the patient s already diminished autonomy.

General Bernard Montgomery s Larg Operation Market Garden
The year is 1944, and the Allies are drawing closer to victory everyday. A daring plan arises soon after
the successful invasion of Normandy; this plan, alternatively, ends in disaster. Had everything gone as
the good General Bernard Montgomery had hoped, the war would have been finished by Christmas; a
large blow against the Germans was needed to relieve the troops in Normandy, who were then facing
both German soldiers and difficult, unfamiliar terrain. General Montgomery had devised a plan that
would push the Allies through Holland and past the strongest of Germany s defences. The idea was
simple: the Allied Airborne Division would drop paratroopers in, who would then take eight important
bridges around Eindhoven, Nijmegen and Arnhem. These troops would then fight through Nazi
controlled Holland and into the heart of Germany, winning the war.
The historic battle of Arnhem was codenamed Operation Market Garden. When it was conceived, the
idea was that a quick strike through Holland and into Germany would be able to end the war and bring
relief to the troops battling through terrain and soldiers in Normandy. The original plan was very much
like the invasion of Normandy: a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Allies made it across the Rhine and into Germany s industrial area. Had the operation been canceled,
the resources could have been diverted elsewhere, and may have been more help at ending the war. As
it is, Operation Market Garden will forever go down as a stain on history; if more intelligence and
time had gone into planning the operation, it could have turned the tide of the war and allowed the

Night By Elie Wiesel
Progress is impossible without change, and those who cannot change their minds cannot change

change yourself. On May 1944, Elie Wiesel and his family were forced out from his home in Sighet,
Romania to live in Auschwitz, Germany. He and his two older sisters survived the holocaust, Elie then
wrote his experience in 1960. During the span of the book, Night by Elie Wiesel, the novel
demonstrates that traumatic events can change a person drastically. In the beginning, Elie lived with
his family in Germany, his mother, his father, and his three siblings. The Germans forced the Jews to
hand over their valuables, live in ghettos and finally moving them to concentration camps, including
Elie s family. He was disunited from his mother and three siblings, but managed to stay with his

townspeople crying including his father. After, Elie then learned to take care of himself and his father
during tragic events, he stuck to his ambitions and values which led him to go through many obstacles
, despite the limitations, and be free of the camp of Auschwitz. As he set out Eliezer was an immature
and carefree 15 year old who developed into a responsible young adult. Before Ellie was taken away
from Sighet to Auschwitz, he was an inquisitive adolescent interested in biblical studies. As stated One

The Danger Of A Single Story By Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie
he world is a diverse place. Many cultures, societies and religions, each of them having rich histories.
Due to such abundance of knowledge, being unaware of a society or culture is common. However,
having the wrong idea of a culture or a community could potentially be a devastating problem. In fact,
this is a prevalent problem as false lies about communities are easily spread out to group of people, the
so called fake news problem. Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie is an Nigerian author who addresses this
problem in her TED Talk at Oxford, England. She asserts that single stories of a place/community can
create a critical misunderstanding. Moreso, the problem is more pervasive than previously thought.
They are not necessarily harmful yet pervasive. For example, subtle stereotypes such as all Asians
only want to be engineers and doctors or every college dropout is an utter failure. Due to such
pervasiveness and consequences, open mindedness is of utmost importance in order to have a peaceful
and a more understanding world or in author s terms, When we realize that there is never a single story
about any place, we will regain a kind of paradise .
In The danger of a single story , Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie argues that having a narrow perspective
of a community, person or a nation can create a critical misunderstanding. Ms.Adichie provides an
example where she believed that only people with white skin and blue eyes can exist in literature

The Prostitution Industry Essay
The Prostitution Industry
A prostitute is defined by the Oxford Advanced Learner s Dictionary as a person who offers herself /
himself for sexual intercourse for money. Legally, prostitution is the sale of sexual services. The
services may consist of any sexual acts, including those which do not involve copulation. While
payment may be any nonsexual consideration, most commonly it is in the form of money.
In what seems to be a world historical pattern, an upsurge in prostitution followed the effects of
urbanization and wage labor. In Africa and Latin America this trend was heightened by industrial
development, which greatly accelerated extensive displacement of people from traditional kinship ties.

Abolition is a view that prostitution is immoral and prostitutes and their clients should be prosecuted.
This view calls for the complete removal of all prostitution activity within a community, and making
all associated activities illegal in the eyes of the law.
Regulation, on the other hand, allows prostitution to be considered a legitimate business or at least an
unavoidable evil; thus prostitution and empowerment of prostitutes are legal, but regulated in terms of
health, location of practice, etc.
Legalization sees prostitution as a victimless crime and should be made completely legal so that it is
no longer an underground activity, allowing the normal checks and balances of society and existing
laws to apply.
Decriminalization acknowledges that prostitution is inevitable, but exploitative; thus measures should
be put in place to protect prostitutes i.e. laws should target violent pimps and traffickers but not the
prostitutes.
UTILITARIAN VS DEONTOLOGICAL PERSPECTIVES ON PROSTITUTION
Utilitarianism seeks the greatest good for the greatest number of people. They believe that they should
make decisions that result in the greatest total utility, that is, achieve the greatest benefit for all those

Song Of Roland
The Norton Anthology, a book containing countless stories and tales of heroism, holds a rather
confusing final verse to one of its great stories, the Song of Roland. This final line catches all those
who read it, trying to understand its true meaning. One must understand the final verse to fully
understand the story. The confusion surrounding the concluding line exists due to the ancient and
unclear language Turold wrote the story in. Through the seven translations he also changes the
wording in several diverse ways. Along with the confusing language and wording, scholars have
formed opinions about the meaning of the final line. Of the several possible meanings of the last line
of Song of Roland, each one affects the resolve and meaning of the entire story in different ways
through the confusing language, changes in wording, and various scholars opinions on the text.
Due to the confusing ancient Anglo Norman language, the final line stating Ci falt la geste que
Turoldus declinet has dumbfounded scholars trying to translate it. The meaning of the words geste and
declinet and the syntax of que still stand unresolved. Throughout the entirety of Song of Roland, no
line out of the over 4000 lines contains so ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The seven translations can separate into four different groups. The first four translations use similar
wording, ending the poem with words along the lines of here end the tale that Turold declaims,
recounts, narrates, (4005). The second group consists of a translation suggesting that Turold possibly
died, or at least his health declined. The third set holds another translation, classifying the story as
history, not just a tale. Finally, the last version ends the most hazily, simply finishing of the poem
saying here ends the source that Turold turns into poetry,

What Is The Difference Between Hawkeyes And Iowa State...
A Rivalry to Watch The game of basketball was created in 1891 by Dr. Hames Naismith. This game
has spread world wide, but in Iowa there are no two teams more well known for basketball than the
Iowa Hawkeyes and Iowa State Cyclones. A rivalry that started between the two colleges on February
5th, 1909, still continues today. Overall, the Iowa Hawkeyes lead in total wins against Iowa State with
44 while Iowa State has only beaten the Hawkeyes 26 times. Although both teams are proud Iowans,
they have numerous differences in their records, coaches, and arenas. Since Hawkeye basketball began
in 1892, they have had 121 seasons resulting in 1,618 wins, 1,142 losses, and 1 tie. The Hawkeyes
belong to the Big Ten Conference, and have been conference champions 8 times in the regular season
and 2 times in the tournament season. In tournament play the Hawks have made an appearance 25
times and advanced to the Final Four 3 times ( Iowa Hawkeyes College Basketball Iowa News,
Scores, Stats, Rumors More ). Iowa State had a late start in the game opening its basketball program in
1907. The Cyclones have had 111 seasons resulting in 1,338 wins and 1,295 losses. Being in the Big
12 Conference, the cyclones have been conference champions 6 times in the regular season and 5
times in tournaments. They have made an appearance in tournaments 19 times, continuing to the Final
Four only once ( Iowa State Cyclones ). Although Iowa State had a late start, both teams have similar
records, but Iowa

The Problem Of Health Care
Access to health care is a key element in improving health, therefore, over the past four decades
reforming health care seems to have taken center stage. Since stepping out of the shadows, the idea of
health care as a managed competition has been evolving. The definition of the managed competition is
that of a purchasing strategy to obtain maximum value for consumers and employers, using rules for
competition derived from microeconomic principles, (Enthoven, 1993). In a world of health care that
now focuses on chronic diseases, the concept of health insurance becomes even more important; by
many seen as a human right. With the change of focus from infectious disease to chronic disease
health care executives, insurance and economic specialist began looking at a system that has over
forty years appeared to be in dire need of reorganization and management. An ideal system would
provide an efficient market as well as promote competition among various health plans. These
particular managed plans would place a value on the cost of care as well as on the quality. With the
value of money placed on the health care system restructure would change how patients receive
services from providers. In the U.S. health care system an outline of managed competition means that
a reformed system allows American s a preference of variety, individual choice and universal
coverage. This assortment of rationale would cause providers delivering care to become more cost and
quality conscious.

Research Paper On House Crickets
There are 900 species of crickets; one of the most common species, used a lot of times for bait, is the
house cricket or Acheta Domesticus. Most species of crickets are nocturnal meaning they are more
active at night. House crickets tend to be found in the Eastern part of the United States. House
Crickets have shorter lifespans than most other species of crickets living only about three months
while other cricket species such as the mole cricket can live for about a year. Males are the ones who
chirp as a mating call, typically at night because the crickets are nocturnal and are therefore more
active at night. The crickets chirp by rubbing their wings together. Crickets have exogenous
entrainment behaviors specifically their chirping at night. Exogenous entrainment is the process of
synchronizing their behaviors based on cues from their environment. They chirp in low light intensity
areas in response to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For instance, it is important that the dependent variable (the crickets) will react to the independent
variable (the changing colors of light). This is supported by the third paragraph where it was stated
that crickets do react to light frequency. It is important that crickets do see different colors because if
they didn t they would never react to the change of light color in the experiment making the testing
obsolete. It is also important to know that crickets respire as well as knowing how they do so. This is
important to know because if crickets did not respire a good amount in a fair amount of time, it
wouldn t be possible to test the dependent variable. It is also extremely important to know when
crickets are active so that it can be tested to see if they will respire more in situations where they are
more active which is the hypothesis: that crickets will respire more in the dark where they are known

Observation Of Migrant Mother
Make observations:
The migrant mother is in the foreground of the image, while her children are in the background of the
image. The migrant mother is the major element in this image, while the children are the minor
elements are the children. The mother is staring out in the distance, and appears to have a concerned
expression on her face. She is worried, and her clothes are ragged. There are three children in this
image: two of them near her shoulders, and another in her lap. It appears that the child in her lap is an
infant, and was born somewhat recently.
Connect the observations:
In 1936, the Dust Bowl was occurring in the United States. The Dust Bowl was a series of dust storms
that destroyed lives, and forced many citizens in the Midwest to relocate to California. According to
Lange, this image was taken in California. It is possible that the mother and her children have been
displaced from their homes, and are escaping to California looking for work. However, finding work
in California was often a fruitless effort. There was typically little to no work for migrants, which
could be a source of stress for the migrant mother. She has three children, but she is most likely unable
to feed them. This is further supported by the state of her clothes and her children s clothes. They are
tattered, which indicates there is not enough money to buy new clothes.
Draw inferences from the related observations:
A possible interpretation of this situation is that the woman has recently migrated from the Midwest,
and is struggling to provide for her family. She is in a difficult situation, because she loves her
children but is unable to provide them with an ideal lifestyle. Their faces are covered in dust, and the
mother is wearing an expression of hopelessness. The tone of this image is one of hopelessness, the
underlying emotion common in almost all the Okies at the time. The hardships have worn the migrant
mother down, and she is struggling to survive with her three children. There are no other family
members present in the image, suggesting that she is the sole provider and sole source of income for
her family.
Form a tentative interpretative conclusion:
By depicting the facial expression of the woman and her

A Reflection On My Philosophy Of Education
My philosophy of education is that each child is a unique individual who needs a secure, caring, and
stimulating atmosphere in which to grow and mature emotionally, intellectually, physically, and
socially. A safe environment is very beneficial to a child s learning. Providing a safe environment will
allow a child to expand his or her horizons and feel free to learn new tasks and topics. A vision
statement is a public declaration that schools use to describe their high level goals for the future and
for what they hope to achieve if they successfully fulfill their organizational purpose. A vision
statement may also describe a school s ideals, its organizational values, long term objectives, or what
it hopes its students will learn or be capable of doing after graduating.
We will have a peaceful, productive, caring, and orderly learning environment that meets the
academic, social, emotional, and developmental needs of all students. Our goal is to prepare students
for a successful school experience without the need for remediation.
I incline to have an effective impact on the culture at Waynesboro Middle School. There will be a
reinforcement of trust, collaborative decision making, and a shared sense of purpose within the school
environment. Everyone will be a lifelong learner at the school including: students, teachers, parents,
and administrators. Professional development will be a key aspect in meeting the needs of diverse
learners and student achievement; in

The Toxicity Effects Of Stavudine ( D4t )
Review of the toxicity effects of Stavudine (d4t) and Zidovudine (azt) in hepatocytes during HIV
therapy.
Introduction
Since the outbreak of HIV/AIDS, an estimated 78 million people have acquired HIV and has killed
approximately 39 million people infected with the virus. The prognosis of the epidemic has continued
to vary from different countries and according to global statistics; 35 million people in 2013 were
living with HIV/AIDS. 2.5 million People per annum acquire the virus and 1.5 million die of AIDS.
Inspite of the drastic transmission of the HIV/AIDS epidemic, the development and accessibility of
anti retroviral drugs has decreased mortality rates by 22% from a population of 2.0million in 2009 to

Fig 1. Structure of HIV 1. Adopted from eMedWiki.
The HIV life cycle occurs in six stages namely; Fusion, Reverse transcription, Integration,
transcription, assembly, and budding. Inorder for the virus to proceed to each stage and continue to
replicate into new viral cells, it requires catalytic enzymes such as reverse transcriptase (RT),
Intergrase (IG), and protease (PT). These replicating enzymes and cycle phases have been identified as
potential therapeutic drug targets for HIV therapy (Fig 2), therefore leading to the development of
novel anti retroviral drugs as stated below;
Fusion Inhibitors (FIs) and Entry inhibitors (EIs): They prevent entry of the viral capsid into the host
CD4+ T cell, by inhibiting the viral Gp41 and Gp120 from binding and fusing with chemocokine
coreceptors CCR5 or CXCR4 on the surface of the host cell. This further prevents the release of viral
replicating enzymes (reverse transcriptase, Intergrase, and protease) from the viral capsid into the host
cell. (Wilen et al., 2011). Examples are Enfuvirtide (FIs) and Maraviroc (EIs).
Reverse transcriptase Inhibitors (RTIs): There are 3 different classes of RTI and these include
nucleoside RTIs (NRTIs), Non nucleotide RTIs (NNRTIs), and nucleotide RTIs (NTRTIs). Inorder to
exhibit their pharmacological effects,

Serious discussion about reorganization began in Congress and the military department in 1944 and aroused much public interest (Trask 1997). Understanding the importance of access controls and audit controls are two of the main steps for implementing a successful compliance plan within all healthcare organizations. Three of the important steps in addressing ways to maintain and utilize the access controls are authentication, authorization, and audit (Gelzer, Acker, Schneider, 2008). The most commonly employed of such terms is bias crime, perhaps because it accurately emphasizes that such offenses often arise out of prejudice toward another group of individuals. In addition, Howard Ehrlich (1990), director of the Prejudice Institute at Townson State University has coined the term ethno violence to include acts that do not arise to the legal standard of a crime, but contain an element of prejudice. These hate incidents may, for example, include the use of ethnic slurs or the exclusion of members of targeted groups from social activities at the workplace. From a psychological perspective, prejudice refers to a negative attitude toward individuals based on their perceived group membership for example, their race, religion, ethnicity, or sexual orientation. Though as a form of discriminatory behavior, hate crimes often have an attitudinal dimension, the relationship between prejudice and criminal behavior tends to be complex. There is reason to believe that certain hate offenses result from some personal bias or hatred. His automatic thought may be, I am good when I put away blocks, triggering a feeling of confidence, an increased level of physical energy, and the behavior of putting away the remaining blocks. Automatic thoughts can be neutral, positive, or negative. We all have our own automatic thoughts as we move through our day to day lives and interact with others. In regards to individuals with psychological disorders, the cognitive model looks at how negative thoughts influence the individual s feelings and behaviors (Beck, 1995). From a CBT lens, it is the negative automatic thoughts that an individual has that perpetuate symptoms of psychological disorders, the occurrence of negative mood, uncomfortable physiological responses, and maladaptive or inappropriate behaviors (Beck, 1995). Durán wrote this book to share his research findings. When Durán had to move to Huntsville, UT (but went to school in Ogden) he found himself immersed in an area where gangs were becoming popular. Durán, an ex gang member himself was curious on how and why gangs operate. He found this research important, because he saw firsthand how society had a role in the formation of gangs. Duran felt that it needed to be brought to light what he witnessed while being a gang member himself and when he conducted his research. This book was different than other literature that had been produced, because Duran was able to get closer and inspect the deeper characteristics of gang life and gang members themselves. This is something that other researchers in the field are typically not able to accomplish. He took on the perspective of investigating what role racial oppression had with the development of gangs. Introduction The goal of this study was to investigate the role of sleep in the regulation of emotional reactivity and mood, and in particular the role of rapid eye movement (REM) sleep. The research team led by Rosales Lagarde measured the impact of total sleep deprivation (TSD) by evaluating subjective responses to frustration and aversive stimuli. It was found that coping skills and emotional regulatory abilities were decreased along with decision making skills following REM sleep disturbances. It was also found that the subjects that experienced disturbances in REM sleep displayed a greater degree of impulsiveness when faced with a risky decision and favored utilitarian judgments. The data was collected using functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) imaging of the brain during the various stages of the experiment, and during the administration of the Emotional Reactivity Task. It was found that there is a greater and longer lasting activation of the amygdala while viewing negative stimuli, and specifically following TSD. This study was based on previous research that suggests that REM sleep plays a significant role in emotional regulation, as brain areas associated with emotion are specifically activated during REM sleep cycles. Charged with the task of evacuating 20,000 troops and 35,000 loyalists from New York, he made securing the freedom of the black loyalists a priority. He expedited the provision of documents establishing their freedom and hurried them onto a fleet of ships headed for Nova Scotia. The speed of this sequence of events infuriated George Washington. But Carleton responded that it was a matter of honor. The Negroes in question, he explained, I found free when I arrived in New York, I had therefore no right . . . to prevent their going to any part of the world they thought proper. A daring plan arises soon after the successful invasion of Normandy; this plan, alternatively, ends in disaster. Had everything gone as the good General Bernard Montgomery had hoped, the war would have been finished by Christmas; a large blow against the Germans was needed to relieve the troops in Normandy, who were then facing both German soldiers and difficult, unfamiliar terrain. General Montgomery had devised a plan that would push the Allies through Holland and past the strongest of Germany s defences. The idea was simple: the Allied Airborne Division would drop paratroopers in, who would then take eight important bridges around Eindhoven, Nijmegen and Arnhem. These troops would then fight through Nazi controlled Holland and into the heart of Germany, winning the war. The historic battle of Arnhem was codenamed Operation Market Garden. Due to such abundance of knowledge, being unaware of a society or culture is common. However, having the wrong idea of a culture or a community could potentially be a devastating problem. In fact, this is a prevalent problem as false lies about communities are easily spread out to group of people, the so called fake news problem. • 43. The Problem Of Health Care Access to health care is a key element in improving health, therefore, over the past four decades reforming health care seems to have taken center stage. Since stepping out of the shadows, the idea of health care as a managed competition has been evolving. The definition of the managed competition is that of a purchasing strategy to obtain maximum value for consumers and employers, using rules for competition derived from microeconomic principles, (Enthoven, 1993). In a world of health care that now focuses on chronic diseases, the concept of health insurance becomes even more important; by many seen as a human right. With the change of focus from infectious disease to chronic disease health care executives, insurance and economic specialist began looking at a system that has over forty years appeared to be in dire need of reorganization and management. An ideal system would provide an efficient market as well as promote competition among various health plans. These particular managed plans would place a value on the cost of care as well as on the quality. With the value of money placed on the health care system restructure would change how patients receive services from providers. In the U.S. health care system an outline of managed competition means that a reformed system allows American s a preference of variety, individual choice and universal coverage. Males are the ones who chirp as a mating call, typically at night because the crickets are nocturnal and are therefore more active at night. The crickets chirp by rubbing their wings together. Crickets have exogenous entrainment behaviors specifically their chirping at night. Exogenous entrainment is the process of synchronizing their behaviors based on cues from their environment. They chirp in low light intensity areas in response to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For instance, it is important that the dependent variable (the crickets) will react to the independent variable (the changing colors of light). This is supported by the third paragraph where it was stated that crickets do react to light frequency. It is important that crickets do see different colors because if they didn t they would never react to the change of light color in the experiment making the testing obsolete. It is also important to know that crickets respire as well as knowing how they do so. This is important to know because if crickets did not respire a good amount in a fair amount of time, it wouldn t be possible to test the dependent variable. It is also extremely important to know when crickets are active so that it can be tested to see if they will respire more in situations where they are more active which is the hypothesis: that crickets will respire more in the dark where they are known to be more ... • 46. Observation Of Migrant Mother Make observations: The migrant mother is in the foreground of the image, while her children are in the background of the image. The migrant mother is the major element in this image, while the children are the minor elements are the children. The mother is staring out in the distance, and appears to have a concerned expression on her face. She is worried, and her clothes are ragged. There are three children in this image: two of them near her shoulders, and another in her lap. It appears that the child in her lap is an infant, and was born somewhat recently. Connect the observations: In 1936, the Dust Bowl was occurring in the United States. The Dust Bowl was a series of dust storms that destroyed lives, and forced many citizens in the Midwest to relocate to California. According to Lange, this image was taken in California. It is possible that the mother and her children have been displaced from their homes, and are escaping to California looking for work. However, finding work in California was often a fruitless effort. There was typically little to no work for migrants, which could be a source of stress for the migrant mother. She has three children, but she is most likely unable to feed them. This is further supported by the state of her clothes and her children s clothes. They are tattered, which indicates there is not enough money to buy new clothes. Draw inferences from the related observations: A possible interpretation of this situation is that the woman has recently migrated from the Midwest, and is struggling to provide for her family. She is in a difficult situation, because she loves her children but is unable to provide them with an ideal lifestyle. Their faces are covered in dust, and the mother is wearing an expression of hopelessness. The tone of this image is one of hopelessness, the underlying emotion common in almost all the Okies at the time. The hardships have worn the migrant mother down, and she is struggling to survive with her three children. There are no other family members present in the image, suggesting that she is the sole provider and sole source of income for her family. Form a tentative interpretative conclusion: By depicting the facial expression of the woman and her ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 47. A Reflection On My Philosophy Of Education My philosophy of education is that each child is a unique individual who needs a secure, caring, and stimulating atmosphere in which to grow and mature emotionally, intellectually, physically, and socially. A safe environment is very beneficial to a child s learning. Providing a safe environment will allow a child to expand his or her horizons and feel free to learn new tasks and topics. A vision statement is a public declaration that schools use to describe their high level goals for the future and for what they hope to achieve if they successfully fulfill their organizational purpose. A vision statement may also describe a school s ideals, its organizational values, long term objectives, or what it hopes its students will learn or be capable of doing after graduating. We will have a peaceful, productive, caring, and orderly learning environment that meets the academic, social, emotional, and developmental needs of all students. Our goal is to prepare students for a successful school experience without the need for remediation. I incline to have an effective impact on the culture at Waynesboro Middle School. There will be a reinforcement of trust, collaborative decision making, and a shared sense of purpose within the school environment. Everyone will be a lifelong learner at the school including: students, teachers, parents, and administrators. Professional development will be a key aspect in meeting the needs of diverse learners and student achievement; in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 48. The Toxicity Effects Of Stavudine ( D4t ) Review of the toxicity effects of Stavudine (d4t) and Zidovudine (azt) in hepatocytes during HIV therapy. Introduction Since the outbreak of HIV/AIDS, an estimated 78 million people have acquired HIV and has killed approximately 39 million people infected with the virus. The prognosis of the epidemic has continued to vary from different countries and according to global statistics; 35 million people in 2013 were living with HIV/AIDS. 2.5 million People per annum acquire the virus and 1.5 million die of AIDS. Inspite of the drastic transmission of the HIV/AIDS epidemic, the development and accessibility of anti retroviral drugs has decreased mortality rates by 22% from a population of 2.0million in 2009 to 1.5million in 2013 (WHO, 2013), ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Fig 1. Structure of HIV 1. Adopted from eMedWiki. The HIV life cycle occurs in six stages namely; Fusion, Reverse transcription, Integration, transcription, assembly, and budding. Inorder for the virus to proceed to each stage and continue to replicate into new viral cells, it requires catalytic enzymes such as reverse transcriptase (RT), Intergrase (IG), and protease (PT). These replicating enzymes and cycle phases have been identified as potential therapeutic drug targets for HIV therapy (Fig 2), therefore leading to the development of novel anti retroviral drugs as stated below; Fusion Inhibitors (FIs) and Entry inhibitors (EIs): They prevent entry of the viral capsid into the host CD4+ T cell, by inhibiting the viral Gp41 and Gp120 from binding and fusing with chemocokine coreceptors CCR5 or CXCR4 on the surface of the host cell. This further prevents the release of viral replicating enzymes (reverse transcriptase, Intergrase, and protease) from the viral capsid into the host cell. (Wilen et al., 2011). Examples are Enfuvirtide (FIs) and Maraviroc (EIs). Reverse transcriptase Inhibitors (RTIs): There are 3 different classes of RTI and these include nucleoside RTIs (NRTIs), Non nucleotide RTIs (NNRTIs), and nucleotide RTIs (NTRTIs).
