In The Diagnostic And Statistical Manual Of Mental...
In the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (5th ed.; DSM 5) there are a number of
disorders that are proposed as conditions for further study, including nonsuicidal self injury (NSSI)
disorder (American Psychiatric Association [APA], 2013). According to the proposed diagnostic
criteria, an individual must have engaged in self injury behavior (e.g., cutting, burning, scraping) on
the surface of their body, at least five times over the last year, without suicidal intent. Additionally, the
self injury is done with the intent of gaining relief from negative emotions and the individual
experiences excessive thoughts about self injury in the period of time before the act (APA, 2013).
Since the DSM 5 was published, many studies ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Additionally, this study emphasized the importance of further study, especially in regards to the link
between NSSI and suicidal ideation. Looking at four population samples, Klonsky, May and Glenn,
further looked at the relation between NSSI and suicide attempts. They found that NSSI predicted
future suicide attempts more than any other risk factor, except for suicidal ideation. This shows that
NSSI is a serious risk factor for suicide and shows an individual s increased capability for harming
oneself, which needs to be taken into consideration when looking at suicide prevention (Klonsky,
May, Glenn, 2013). They also found, amongst the four populations, that amongst adolescent females,
NSSI is significantly more common than with adolescent males, compared to the college and adult
populations, where neither females nor males significantly engaged in NSSI more than the other
(Klonsky et al., 2013). Another study looked at implicit attitudes between adolescents who engaged in
either NSSI or had a suicide attempt (Dickstein et al., 2015). The main purpose of this study was to
see how NSSI and suicide attempts can be understood distinctly and uncorrelated. They found that
adolescents who had NSSI had a stronger association with cutting as well as with thinking about
death, while adolescents who had attempted suicide only had associations with death (Dickstein et al.,
2015). This was important due to the association that NSSI had with death, even if they had never

Marshall Supreme Court Case
Legislation passed under former Chief Justice John Marshall would continue the Federalists agenda to
define a strong central government while diminishing state level powers. Arguably the most important
Supreme Court case in history, Marbury v. Madison s (1803) presided over the commissions of several
judges appointed in the final hours of the Adams administration. Chief Justice Marshall would deny
the petition and writ, claiming the court did not have the power to issue them however; he awarded the
plaintiffs their commissions. As result Marshall s decision established judicial review allowing federal
courts to nullify acts of Congress that violate the Constitution. Despite the immediate limitations
Marshall place on the court his actions would ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The case of Dartmouth College v. Woodward (1819), questioned what under the contract clause was
preserved by the Constitution and additionally disputed states assemblies jurisdiction to alter a charter.
In 1769, the King of England charted Dartmouth College as a private university in 1816 the state of
New Hampshire passed several laws to revise the charter to a public university. Furthermore, the
change in charter would modify the board of trustees; as a result, the trustees filed a lawsuit claiming
the newly passed New Hampshire laws were in breech of the Constitution. The court ruled in
agreement with Dartmouth; the laws violated the Constitution, which prohibited a state from changing
a contract. Marshall delivered the opinion writing, ...that the legislative of a State shall pass no law
impairing the obligation of contract. The courts verdict limited the power of states rights including the
power to obstruct charters while simultaneously boosting the powers of the contract clause. In
conclusion, the decision asserted the Supreme Court could nullify any laws they found
unconstitutional increasing the powers of the executive

Advantages Of African American Freedom
Freedom is the power to determine action without restraint, and it is the foundation of our lives today.
Every race has the freedom to vote, go to whichever school they choose, take place in office, sit in any
sector of the bus, etc. Around the 1860 s, Northern African Americans had freedom, but unlike today,
their freedom was restricted. In 1850, before the beginning of the civil war, the population census
concluded that fourteen percent of the population was African American. By 1860, 476,000 of them
were free from slavery, but only 221,000 lived in the North. After winning the Revolutionary war the
Northern states gradually began to end slavery and it was officially abolished in 1842. With all factors
in mind, the question of just how free blacks were in the North still lingers in the air. Blacks in the
North were only somewhat free in the years just before the civil war because they endured restrictions
in social, political, and educational areas of society.
To begin with, northern blacks were only somewhat free because they still had to encounter
segregation, discrimination, and prejudice in their social freedom. Although they were free to live,
they had to use restrooms, public areas, schools, etc. that were specifically assigned to their race. An
English Visitor, Charles Mackay, defined his travels by stating, he shall not be free to dine and drink at
our board...to attend us at the bed of sickness and pain to mingle with us in the concert room, the
lecture room, the theatre, or the church, (document B). African Americans were not given the
opportunity to associate with anyone of the white race, nor were they allowed to be in the same
location as them. Since the white race was considered the superior race , and were heavily
discriminant towards the black race, their segregated public facilities were a lot nicer than those of
african americans. Also, prejudice made it harder for black people to attain jobs. In a graduation
speech made by an african american, he proclaimed white boys won t work with me. Shall I be a
merchant? No one will have me in his office (document C). Because of their race, african americans
struggled to get employed. In society, northern blacks had to suffer through

Search For The Right Way Of Life In Herman Hesse s Siddhartha
Siddhartha
Lap Topic #6
By: Jose Guerra

Jose Guerra 11/30/17
We go on day by day in search for the right way of life, but whose right is it to tell us how we live?
Who is to tell us right from wrong? In many cultures, religion dictates what people perceive to be
moral and not. Although religion is accepted into the lifestyle of many, what happens to those that do
not find fulfillment in the words of the people preaching these beliefs? In the book Siddhartha by
Herman Hesse, the life of the protagonist named Siddhartha is expressed through his issues to find
satisfaction in teachings. He didn t find fulfillment in the words of others, not of his father, not the
oldest samana, not even the Sublime One(the Buddha). The novel takes you through every step of his
life and at the end of the book there is an ironic message. The message contradicts everything he
believed that was going to aid him on this journey to Nirvana which surprises the readers.
The novel begins in the early stages of Siddhartha s life. He was a brahmin s son which meant he was
in an upper class compared to most. As a young man he had everything, he had the life that many
dreamed. His life was that of someone that was easily envied, but in reality he wasn t living the perfect
life. He was dissatisfied with the teachings of the brahmins and he didn t find fulfillment in their
words although he was a pandit. He mastered their teachings but couldn t master their meaning.

Descriptive Essay On Life Is Beautiful
La Vita E Bella or in English language, Life is Beautiful is a touching story about the unconditional
love of a father to his family. Guido Orefice is a Jewish Italian who went in Arezzo, Italy on 1939 to
open a bookstore he rode on a car with his friend while his friend was reciting a poem about being
free. I felt laughed a little bit when the brake fluid of the car wrecked. They stopped on a barn to fix
their car when Guido met a school teacher named Dora. It was funny when Dora fell from a high tree
house then to Guido s arms. I can see on his eyes that he already felt that it was love at first sight. He
also called her Princess . I can also see in Dora s eyes on the way she laugh on Guido s jokes, she
already loves him too. Despite of Dora, having a relationship with the Italian officer still Guido s

and called Dora and said that they were okay and they missed her a lot. Dora cried when he heard the
voice of Joshua, because she thought he was already dead. I also became teary eyed when Joshua saw
the real tank his father has promised him. He was very happy when he saw the tank, but it was not on

Addiction Caused by a Wounded Soul
Modern society has failed bring the burgeoning problems of addiction under control. The word
addiction was applied to drug use in the 20th century, but now it refers to a wider variety of non drug
hobbies, such as eating, gambling and sex. To treat the devastating flood of addiction problems, it is
important to understand that addiction is not just a physical problem but more of a social and
psychological problem. Dislocation caused by the free market society and the pressure from family
can lead to addiction.

Alexander and Shaler state that at the beginning of the 21st century, for rich and poor people alike,
jobs disappear on short notice, communities are weak and unstable, people routinely change lovers,
families, occupations, coworkers, technical skills, languages, nationalities, therapists, spiritual beliefs,
and ideologies as they navigate the shopping malls, real estate markets and employment agencies. (4)
A free market society is supposed to maximize people s wellbeing, happiness and wealth, but the truth
is people are forced to compete against each other and lose their sense of belonging, meaning and
identity, eventually turning into slaves in a money oriented society. Whether rich or poor, people
become disconnected from their cultural identity and fail to fail to establish their intimate relationships
with friends, communities an co workers. According to Alexander and Shaler, this is when people
cannot achieve a reasonable degree of psychosocial integration (5) and become dislocated from the
society. Dislocation cannot simply be eliminated by food, shelter or the attainment of wealth. The
poverty of spirit leads people to search for a substitute lifestyle to fill the emptiness of fast moving
life. As a result, people turn to substitute lifestyles that can be dangerous and addictive. Bruce and
Shaler argue that today s free market ignore all previously understood limits and have gone too far to
the extreme.

A Comparison of Helen in the Iliad and the Odyssey
The Iliad and The Odyssey are tales written by Homer centered on the drama of the Trojan War. First
poem deals with the time during the end of the war, while the latter, which occurs roughly ten years
later, explains the disastrous journey of Odysseus fighting his way back home. The character of
women in the Odyssey is to exhibit the many and diverse roles that women play in the lives of men.
These functions vary from characters such as the goddess that help them to the nymphs who trick
them. Women in the Iliad exhibit their significance in the lives of the ancient Greeks because they are
so prominent in a world so dominated with military relations. Helen of Troy was one of these women.
Like so many women Homer speaks of, her ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It becomes aware of Homer s distaste for her because indignity is her central characteristic, and this
coming from a writer we have come to associate with honor. It remains unclear whether or not she was
forced by Aphrodite to go with Paris. If she was not, then it appears that lust and desire was her sole
motivation, leaving her with yet another trait which is unappealing to Homer.
Homer tends to lighten Helen s betrayal somewhat in The Odyssey. Homer wants to assure the reader
that although it is in the past, it will not be entirely forgotten. In this epic she becomes a wife to
Menelaus and not in the literal sense because the two have always been married. Instead, she now
openly admits to him and other guests that her actions were unspeakable and unforgivable, almost to
say that what occurred what unlike her and she actually is a good woman. Also, Menelaus agrees with
her, showing no anger. But Homer lets us know that she is as deceitful and conniving as ever, when
Helen admits to openly celebrating the fall of Troy, cheering while the Trojan women wept for their
husbands. She says The rest of the Trojan women shrilled with their grief. Not I: my heart leapt up my
heart had changed now I yearned to sail back home again (Homer). Thus, Helen goes from being
deceitful to adapting disloyalty.
Homer s dislike for Helen becomes apparent, but only with further examination. In The

because of how he looks, which is similar to how certain people are prejudiced based on the color of

Lord Farquaad has prejudice against magical creatures. This is shown when he has ordered that the

VICE and Thomas Morton use countless images of pathos such as rotten fruit, empty farming fields
with tomatoes laying to waste, overflowing mailboxes at an abandoned trailer park, and an empty

a feeling of waste among most because the epidemic of hunger is a well known problem across the
US. The abandoned trailer park invokes a feeling of sadness knowing that it was once populated with
immigrant workers. Thomas Morton states, ... once populated exclusively by immigrants until

The Importance Of Ring Fencing And Loss Absorbency
To establish a more effective and competitive UK banking system, the 2011 report of the Independent
Commission on Banking (ICB) has come up with different recommendations, the ICB was chaired by
Sir John Vickers, this is why the report is also called the Vickers Report . These recommendations are
mainly based on strengthening the stability of the banking system by a combination of measures on
the structure and the ability to absorb losses of the banks. It is suggested that some degree of structural
separation between investment banking and retail banking is necessary, not only because it can resolve
banks in trouble easier, but also avoiding the banking services affecting by international shocks which
is beyond the control of the local authorities. On the other hand, banks with a greater loss absorbing
capacity will definitely be helpful in strengthening the stability of the banking system. This paper will
be focusing on the proposals for ring fencing and loss absorbency, explaining what these proposals are
about and how can they make changes to the banking system. Then by comparing the differences of
ring fencing from other structural reform, and realizing the effect of the loss absorbency on the
banking system, analysis from different views will be made for drawing up a conclusion on whether
these proposals can successfully achieve the ultimate goal, which is creating a legal and more stable

The Film Rocky Horror Picture Show By Richard O Brien Essay
In the film Rocky Horror Picture Show, the character Dr. Frank N Furter sings the words, So I ll

Brien follows a newly engaged couple through a sexual journey as they lose their innocence and start
to conform to traditional gender stereotypes. Today youth of America are being bombarded with
conflicting ideas about gender, race and sex. These conflicting ideas can lead to skewed visions on
what defines masculinity and what defines femininity. Furthermore, sexual assault on college
campuses by men and particularly student athletes have come to the forefront of many news headlines
in recent years and while some believe that sexual assault stems from locker room culture , it stems
from a skewed sense of masculinity that has been created over years of consuming media. Many try to
educate these same men on what defines consent and how to properly act in sexual situations, but this

of sexual assault to be reduced, then the root cause must be removed. A twisted systemic view of
masculinity is the root cause of many sexual assaults because a twisted view of masculinity causes

Professional Writing Reflection
.
This course has afforded me the ability to improve my professional writing skills in the working field.
The various writing assignments from the first assignment of writing a memo to the final assignment
of a nursing exemplar has been a challenge. The learnings of a variety of elements that go alone with
professional writing has heighten my knowledge and skills of writing. The remainder of this paper
will give readers a view of what and how the writing assignments assisted me with this skill.
The learning I received from memo writing assignment would be to assure they are short, direct and
remain within inside the company; anything longer than a page the reader loses interest. The
assignment of composing a meeting agenda was one of my most pleasurable assignments, although it
carried some complicatedness for me. I have never been required to formulate a professional agenda
in my career; so, therefore, it required a lot of effort. In my opinion, the best element of the
assignment was devising discussion question. Formulating these questions caused me to think
critically and bring about my creativity. I do feel the need to continue practicing this skill in view of
the fact that I have never been required to draw one up, and will possibly be experiencing this in the
future. Therefore, I will continue to perfect this skill. With this assignment, I have learned how to
create a professional agenda and how to integrate nursing literature into a professional meeting. The
job research journal was one of my best learned assignments. I thoroughly enjoyed the research
portion, identifying each job mission and values and noting if they align with those of my own values.
This also allowed me to profoundly research the advantages and benefits of the top two jobs chosen.
This assignment I will carry throughout my career. For the resume and cover letter assignment, there
wasn t much new information for me to learn as I was very familiar with the contents of a resume and
cover letter. However, with this being so, I will continue to remember the significance of a resume and
will continue to utilize them throughout my career. The mock interview and elevator speech will be
very beneficial in my upcoming career; it will permit me

Lesbian Identity Politics and Associated Organizations Essay
Identity politics were a major part of social reform in the Sixties and Seventies. Yet, the advent of
identity politic reform originates in the Fifties, a decade that saw the African American Civil Rights
Movement start to gain momentum. On the heels of the Civil Rights movement, we also see the
Women s Liberation Movement begin to gain steam, shortly thereafter followed by the Gay Liberation
Movement. And as an offshoot of these reform movements, we observe the dawn of lesbian identity
politics a movement very much its own amongst its predecessors. One sect would come to be coined
the lavender menace of feminism a group of mostly Caucasian lesbians followed later by the black
lesbian feminist group, The Combahee River Collective. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
After delivering the food, and being understandably annoyed with the task, she was belittled by a male
protestor who would have her as a sexual reward for sitting in. Black feminists, such as those in the
Combahee River Collective, experienced very similar discrimination in Civil Rights campaigns,
especially groups like the Black Panthers. Just like Jay, many African American women were used as
sexual remuneration to men who did good work within their organizations. This patriarchy, antithetic
to the goals of feminism, was the undoubted enemy of both these lesbian organizations usurping it
became one clear goal. The Combahee River Collective, though, did not feel separate from African
American men concerning race, yet, felt doubly oppressed by white patriarchy. Understanding that
they connected with black men racially, yet struggled with them sexually, almost supplements the idea
that white men who controlled government and economy were the ultimate oppressor. They did not
feel they were separate, but rather, just opposed to black men along patriarchal lines. Inversely, the
Collective connected with white lesbians against patriarchy, but were subjected to hierarchy within
feminism as well as lesbianism. Secondly, we see that if well known reformists were not male, they
were heterosexual, the epitome being Betty Friedan. This was the reason for the more specific goal of
the two groups: battling hierarchy in addition to

Why Harry Was So Sick Of Being Lied
There he was again, staring out a window. This time, Harry was watching the suburban empire from
which he had narrowly escaped, fly past in a dizzying blur. The bus was small and oddly smelled of
raisins, but he was on his way. He had managed to elude Petunia s hawk like watch on him and prevail
against all odds. In his hand, he still tightly clutched the locket, half afraid it would suddenly slip
through his fingers. Quite honestly, it wouldn t surprise him if it did. In the wizarding world, anything
was possible. Which was sometimes an unprecedented problem. Through the hexes and curses, riddles
and potions, it could be hard to know what to believe. Harry was so sick of being lied to. It was an
infuriating game of tag and chase. Every ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Strangely though, Petunia was still sitting at the table. Almost expectantly, like she was waiting for
something. Noticing Harry still standing there, she gave him a nasty glare. What are you still doing
here, boy? The malice in her tone was evident, as always. Harry sighed and left. Though he tried to
ignore it, Harry couldn t help but remain curious over Petunia s peculiar anxiety. Lying awake in bed,
he listened. The house was quiet for the longest time, aside from the low hum of the television. Then,
Harry heard the phone ring. Petunia must ve jumped up suddenly, because he heard her chair scrape
against the floor. Petunia hissed into the phone urgently. Swiftly slinking out of bed, Harry carefully
opened his door. Edging along the hallway, he moved until Petunia s voice was just around the corner.
Yes. I have it. I ve had it ever since Lily died. No. Lily s pensieve is safe. I understand. It remains in
the package hidden in the kitchen. It s inside an empty jar on a topmost shelf. Harry had gone pale.
His mother s memories were in this very house, just within his grasp. And now, he knew exactly
where they were. Listen, I don t want to be in any part of this... None of this was supposed to happen...
that was an accident... Harry was already dashing back to the cupboard. He hardly got any sleep that
night. Thoughts of what this pensieve could possibly hold, kept him up. But why did Petunia have it?

Watership Down
The extraordinary novel, Watership Down, by Richard Adams is an adventure filled, meaningful piece
of literature published in London around November 1972. Although the plot is about a group of
rabbits struggling to find home, the story can be interpreted as so much more. Of course the book can
be interpreted differently especially as times change. The general meaning however remains intact.
This piece is a great example of an author speaking their voice through writing.
The beginning of the novel takes place at the home of the Owsla Rabbits, which could be classified as
a corrupt democracy. When Fiver, one of the main character s, senses something terrible is going to
happen to his home, he convinces his brother Hazel and several others to ... Show more content on

This idea may be more important than others just because it gives somewhat of a moral lesson on how
to succeed in life. Without the rabbits great work ethic and strong will they would not have made it to
Watership Down. Even after they were worn to the brim and some even injured, they kept on going
because they had a good leader and a bright vision of their future. They continued to go even when
some had became skeptical. This leads into another small side note that, no one was ever left behind.
When Pipkin, a small loyal rabbit was injured, he was not left behind. The group came up with the
water raft idea to get him across the river, because they cared and looked out for one another.Hazel
also took the time to examine him and help to heal his foot so they could continue on with their
journey. You can almost trace this back to the beginning of the book, when Hazel and Fiver were
about to embark on their trip they could have saved themselves and left, but they didn t. They warned
the others and gave an invitation to anyone that wanted to go. They tried to save anyone and everyone
that they could, because they couldn t leave anyone

Essay about Husband Abuse is Not Receiving Enough Attention
Although, husband abuse is common, it does not receive the attention it deserves. Subsequently, it is
not perceived as serious let alone problematic in our society. In many cases, husband abuse is not
taken seriously due to the higher rates and awareness of abused wives. While there are many resilient
organizations in support of battered women, there is scarcely any funding or resources to assist
battered husbands. Many that have worked with abused wives, both volunteers and professionals have
come across a number of battered husbands who have pled for assistance. Considering the fact that
some men were able to seek help with claims of having no other place to go, many residences were
hesitant as well as incapable of helping them. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
(Steinmetz, 500) From the earlier stages of childhood, while all children are taught to keep their hands
to themselves, it mostly applied to boys. Perhaps this could have been because of the assumption that
boys in general could do more damage than girls. As a result, some men may feel pressured to accept
this universal image of what a real man should be like. This portrayal is displayed in many different
forms by society whether people notice it or not. With that being said, most battered husbands along
with the rest of society have bought into the subconscious images of men always being domineering.
Suzanne Steinmetz supports this notion by stating that ... the contention that women are socialized for
greater impulse controls appears to have little support. (Steinmetz, 504) In addition to the pressure
some battered husbands experience to conduct themselves a certain way, battered husbands may have
to take on the extra trauma of humiliation.(Steinmetz, 501) Thus, the fear of feeling powerless and
belittled prevents many victims of husband abuse from being open about their experiences.
Although spousal violence towards men is not as predominant as it is towards women, many accept to
be true that husband abuse does not really exist. While some are blinded by ignorance others are
simply just unaware of it. This is partly due to the lack of research accessible for others. On the
subject of spousal violence, examination

802.11ac is 5 GHz only? As we all know 5GHz frequency are poor performance on long distance

commonly used Wi Fi basically work in 2.4G wireless frequency band, using 802.11b / g protocol. But
as more and more equipment is added to the 2.4GHz, the channel became very crowded between 2.4

wireless mouse, Bluetooth and other). The crowded channel will make the equipment to seize

Shoot A Basketball Research Paper
People have been playing basketball since 1891. The way that basketball has been played has changed
quite a bit, especially how someone shoots a basketball. It started out with having players feet squared
to the basket at shoulder width apart as the way everyone shot or taught it. Now more and more people
are learning to shoot with their feet turned away from the basket and using an armband that prevents a
player from using their guide hand to help them threw the motion of there shot. When most people are
learning how to shoot a basketball they are told to square their feet to the basket. Now there is a
different way to shoot, shooting with a the feet turned away from the basket. Just by doing that it will

Comparing Poems Brave Man And This Living Hand
Interlaced throughout these poems, one theme is shared, and that theme is how longing slowly turns
into death over time. As poets often ask readers to examine more closely the relationship between
seemingly opposite themes. Specifically, poems by Agran, Dunbar, Keats, and Stevens explore the
tension between desire and death. Black Umbrellas is about a new start in life while Why Fades a
Dream is about having a dream and putting it to action. This Living Hand is about enjoying the time
you are alive and not taking life for granted ,however; The Brave Man is about a man that is
personified as a sun and going through fears in his life. Poetry, poetry is a literary work in which is
given to the expression of feelings and ideas by the use of distinctive style and rhythm. Meandering
watery worlds, like you and the black umbrella, the one you will lose on purpose at day s end so you
can go the way you came into the world, wet looking. Initially this stanza shows longing in a way ...

Dunbar states when the moon is setting and the sun is rising. That once the sun rises awareness of
reality takes over your body so you can rise to put your dreams into action so they become a reality.
And like waxing star beam glow upon life s stream so fades a dream. States that once your ambitions

all you have to look forward to is death. In a manner death can be great or it can be dreadful

The Era Of America After The Antebellum Period
It is believed that the beginning of a task is often the most important as well as the most difficult,
because it consists of discovering the basis to success with a greater chance of failure. The
establishment of America after gaining independence from Great Britain relied heavily on the
foundations set during the antebellum period, which is often classified as the period of time before the
civil war. During such vital time in American history came a number of fundamental Supreme Court
cases. The outcome of various cases significantly shaped the future of America into the country we
know today. Perhaps some of the most important cases include Marbury v. Madison, Gibbons v.
Ogden, and Dred Scott v. Sandford. McCulloch v. Maryland is possibly the most prominent Supreme
Court case throughout the antebellum period that occurred in 1819, even though different
interpretations of the Necessary and Proper Clause have led to many controversies regarding its
meaning and the potential supreme authority of congress, this landmark case established that the
federal government has certain implied powers under the constitution. Primarily, individuals who
supported the National Bank argued that the bank was essential in regulating the money distributed by
state banks. However, many states wanted nothing concerning the National Bank in their precincts in
fear of state banks being rundown. Citizens that opposed claimed that Congress did not have the
power to establish a National Bank and

Questions On The Robotic Fundamentals Module
This document explains my approach to solve the coursework questions for the Robotic Fundamentals
module. The coursework is divided into three different parts. The first part of the coursework asks to

  • 2. In The Diagnostic And Statistical Manual Of Mental... In the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (5th ed.; DSM 5) there are a number of disorders that are proposed as conditions for further study, including nonsuicidal self injury (NSSI) disorder (American Psychiatric Association [APA], 2013). According to the proposed diagnostic criteria, an individual must have engaged in self injury behavior (e.g., cutting, burning, scraping) on the surface of their body, at least five times over the last year, without suicidal intent. Additionally, the self injury is done with the intent of gaining relief from negative emotions and the individual experiences excessive thoughts about self injury in the period of time before the act (APA, 2013). Since the DSM 5 was published, many studies ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Additionally, this study emphasized the importance of further study, especially in regards to the link between NSSI and suicidal ideation. Looking at four population samples, Klonsky, May and Glenn, further looked at the relation between NSSI and suicide attempts. They found that NSSI predicted future suicide attempts more than any other risk factor, except for suicidal ideation. This shows that NSSI is a serious risk factor for suicide and shows an individual s increased capability for harming oneself, which needs to be taken into consideration when looking at suicide prevention (Klonsky, May, Glenn, 2013). They also found, amongst the four populations, that amongst adolescent females, NSSI is significantly more common than with adolescent males, compared to the college and adult populations, where neither females nor males significantly engaged in NSSI more than the other (Klonsky et al., 2013). Another study looked at implicit attitudes between adolescents who engaged in either NSSI or had a suicide attempt (Dickstein et al., 2015). The main purpose of this study was to see how NSSI and suicide attempts can be understood distinctly and uncorrelated. They found that adolescents who had NSSI had a stronger association with cutting as well as with thinking about death, while adolescents who had attempted suicide only had associations with death (Dickstein et al., 2015). This was important due to the association that NSSI had with death, even if they had never ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Marshall Supreme Court Case Legislation passed under former Chief Justice John Marshall would continue the Federalists agenda to define a strong central government while diminishing state level powers. Arguably the most important Supreme Court case in history, Marbury v. Madison s (1803) presided over the commissions of several judges appointed in the final hours of the Adams administration. Chief Justice Marshall would deny the petition and writ, claiming the court did not have the power to issue them however; he awarded the plaintiffs their commissions. As result Marshall s decision established judicial review allowing federal courts to nullify acts of Congress that violate the Constitution. Despite the immediate limitations Marshall place on the court his actions would ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The case of Dartmouth College v. Woodward (1819), questioned what under the contract clause was preserved by the Constitution and additionally disputed states assemblies jurisdiction to alter a charter. In 1769, the King of England charted Dartmouth College as a private university in 1816 the state of New Hampshire passed several laws to revise the charter to a public university. Furthermore, the change in charter would modify the board of trustees; as a result, the trustees filed a lawsuit claiming the newly passed New Hampshire laws were in breech of the Constitution. The court ruled in agreement with Dartmouth; the laws violated the Constitution, which prohibited a state from changing a contract. Marshall delivered the opinion writing, ...that the legislative of a State shall pass no law impairing the obligation of contract. The courts verdict limited the power of states rights including the power to obstruct charters while simultaneously boosting the powers of the contract clause. In conclusion, the decision asserted the Supreme Court could nullify any laws they found unconstitutional increasing the powers of the executive ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Advantages Of African American Freedom Freedom is the power to determine action without restraint, and it is the foundation of our lives today. Every race has the freedom to vote, go to whichever school they choose, take place in office, sit in any sector of the bus, etc. Around the 1860 s, Northern African Americans had freedom, but unlike today, their freedom was restricted. In 1850, before the beginning of the civil war, the population census concluded that fourteen percent of the population was African American. By 1860, 476,000 of them were free from slavery, but only 221,000 lived in the North. After winning the Revolutionary war the Northern states gradually began to end slavery and it was officially abolished in 1842. With all factors in mind, the question of just how free blacks were in the North still lingers in the air. Blacks in the North were only somewhat free in the years just before the civil war because they endured restrictions in social, political, and educational areas of society. To begin with, northern blacks were only somewhat free because they still had to encounter segregation, discrimination, and prejudice in their social freedom. Although they were free to live, they had to use restrooms, public areas, schools, etc. that were specifically assigned to their race. An English Visitor, Charles Mackay, defined his travels by stating, he shall not be free to dine and drink at our board...to attend us at the bed of sickness and pain to mingle with us in the concert room, the lecture room, the theatre, or the church, (document B). African Americans were not given the opportunity to associate with anyone of the white race, nor were they allowed to be in the same location as them. Since the white race was considered the superior race , and were heavily discriminant towards the black race, their segregated public facilities were a lot nicer than those of african americans. Also, prejudice made it harder for black people to attain jobs. In a graduation speech made by an african american, he proclaimed white boys won t work with me. Shall I be a merchant? No one will have me in his office (document C). Because of their race, african americans struggled to get employed. In society, northern blacks had to suffer through ... • 5. Search For The Right Way Of Life In Herman Hesse s Siddhartha Siddhartha Lap Topic #6 By: Jose Guerra Due: 11/30/2017 Jose Guerra 11/30/17 We go on day by day in search for the right way of life, but whose right is it to tell us how we live? Who is to tell us right from wrong? In many cultures, religion dictates what people perceive to be moral and not. Although religion is accepted into the lifestyle of many, what happens to those that do not find fulfillment in the words of the people preaching these beliefs? In the book Siddhartha by Herman Hesse, the life of the protagonist named Siddhartha is expressed through his issues to find satisfaction in teachings. He didn t find fulfillment in the words of others, not of his father, not the oldest samana, not even the Sublime One(the Buddha). The novel takes you through every step of his life and at the end of the book there is an ironic message. The message contradicts everything he believed that was going to aid him on this journey to Nirvana which surprises the readers. The novel begins in the early stages of Siddhartha s life. He was a brahmin s son which meant he was in an upper class compared to most. As a young man he had everything, he had the life that many dreamed. His life was that of someone that was easily envied, but in reality he wasn t living the perfect life. He was dissatisfied with the teachings of the brahmins and he didn t find fulfillment in their words although he was a pandit. He mastered their teachings but couldn t master their meaning. ... I can also see in Dora s eyes on the way she laugh on Guido s jokes, she already loves him too. Alexander and Shaler state that at the beginning of the 21st century, for rich and poor people alike, jobs disappear on short notice, communities are weak and unstable, people routinely change lovers, families, occupations, coworkers, technical skills, languages, nationalities, therapists, spiritual beliefs, and ideologies as they navigate the shopping malls, real estate markets and employment agencies. (4) A free market society is supposed to maximize people s wellbeing, happiness and wealth, but the truth is people are forced to compete against each other and lose their sense of belonging, meaning and identity, eventually turning into slaves in a money oriented society. Whether rich or poor, people become disconnected from their cultural identity and fail to fail to establish their intimate relationships with friends, communities an co workers. According to Alexander and Shaler, this is when people cannot achieve a reasonable degree of psychosocial integration (5) and become dislocated from the society. Dislocation cannot simply be eliminated by food, shelter or the attainment of wealth. The poverty of spirit leads people to search for a substitute lifestyle to fill the emptiness of fast moving life. As a result, people turn to substitute lifestyles that can be dangerous and addictive. • 10. A Comparison of Helen in the Iliad and the Odyssey The Iliad and The Odyssey are tales written by Homer centered on the drama of the Trojan War. First poem deals with the time during the end of the war, while the latter, which occurs roughly ten years later, explains the disastrous journey of Odysseus fighting his way back home. The character of women in the Odyssey is to exhibit the many and diverse roles that women play in the lives of men. These functions vary from characters such as the goddess that help them to the nymphs who trick them. Women in the Iliad exhibit their significance in the lives of the ancient Greeks because they are so prominent in a world so dominated with military relations. Helen of Troy was one of these women. It becomes aware of Homer s distaste for her because indignity is her central characteristic, and this coming from a writer we have come to associate with honor. It remains unclear whether or not she was forced by Aphrodite to go with Paris. If she was not, then it appears that lust and desire was her sole motivation, leaving her with yet another trait which is unappealing to Homer. Homer tends to lighten Helen s betrayal somewhat in The Odyssey. Homer wants to assure the reader that although it is in the past, it will not be entirely forgotten. In this epic she becomes a wife to Menelaus and not in the literal sense because the two have always been married. Instead, she now openly admits to him and other guests that her actions were unspeakable and unforgivable, almost to say that what occurred what unlike her and she actually is a good woman. Also, Menelaus agrees with her, showing no anger. But Homer lets us know that she is as deceitful and conniving as ever, when Helen admits to openly celebrating the fall of Troy, cheering while the Trojan women wept for their husbands. She says The rest of the Trojan women shrilled with their grief. Not I: my heart leapt up my heart had changed now I yearned to sail back home again (Homer). Thus, Helen goes from being deceitful to adapting disloyalty. Homer s dislike for Helen becomes apparent, but only with further examination. In The ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Furthermore, 802.11ac s chipset also supports 2.4GHz band, to supports 802.11a/b/g/n WLAN and other previous standard, to provide backward compatibility. 4.1.1 Why 802.11ac is 5 GHz only? As we all know 5GHz frequency are poor performance on long distance transmission and through, we may want to ask why they remove 2.4GHz from 802.11ac. We now commonly used Wi Fi basically work in 2.4G wireless frequency band, using 802.11b / g protocol. But as more and more equipment is added to the 2.4GHz, the channel became very crowded between 2.4 to 2.485GHz, because too many electronic devices are working in this band (e.g. wireless keyboard, wireless mouse, Bluetooth and other). The crowded channel will make the equipment to seize resources. For example, we are all connected to same wireless router, everyone s computers and routers must communicate, if only one computer, it is very simple, it can take dialogue with router, because there ... • 30. Shoot A Basketball Research Paper People have been playing basketball since 1891. The way that basketball has been played has changed quite a bit, especially how someone shoots a basketball. It started out with having players feet squared to the basket at shoulder width apart as the way everyone shot or taught it. Now more and more people are learning to shoot with their feet turned away from the basket and using an armband that prevents a player from using their guide hand to help them threw the motion of there shot. When most people are learning how to shoot a basketball they are told to square their feet to the basket. Now there is a different way to shoot, shooting with a the feet turned away from the basket. Just by doing that it will make a difference on how a player ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 31. Iri Test Assessing the results of the IRI test performed, it reveals that the student s independent reading level is at the primer level. While performing the graded passage at the primer level, the student read the passage out loud, pronouncing 59 out of 62 words correctly, and read relatively fluent. For the reading comprehension of this section she answered all five comprehension questions correct. Her instructional level resulted in first grade, 3 out of 71 words, and answered two factual comprehension questions incorrectly. She performed poorly during the re telling of the passage, only recalling 17 words out of 71, which reflects in the comprehension section that she had poor memory the content after reading the passage. Based on her results, her ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... At the third grade level, her lowest level, the recognizable pattern of her errors is that she did not say multisyllabic words completely. For example, the word policy she read as police and the word passenger she read as passage. Based on this list she has a habit of dropping the suffix in words. There was also an instance where she skipped over the prefix of the word and only said the final syllable. At the second grade level she had a tendency to hesitate on a few words and also struggled with with vowels. In one case she adds a vowel, such as in the word blows she said belows. In addition, she swapped the short vowel sounds for a and e, such as saying esleep instead of asleep. On her highest performing word list, the primer level, she only had one instance where she hesitated on the word street but was able to decode without assistance. Going through specific notes I took as administering the test, as well as prior knowledge about her reading challenged, her area of challenge is long and short vowels, syllables, lack of sightwords due to many hesitations, and has a tendency to incorrectly inference ... • 32. Comparing Poems Brave Man And This Living Hand Interlaced throughout these poems, one theme is shared, and that theme is how longing slowly turns into death over time. As poets often ask readers to examine more closely the relationship between seemingly opposite themes. Specifically, poems by Agran, Dunbar, Keats, and Stevens explore the tension between desire and death. Black Umbrellas is about a new start in life while Why Fades a Dream is about having a dream and putting it to action. This Living Hand is about enjoying the time you are alive and not taking life for granted ,however; The Brave Man is about a man that is personified as a sun and going through fears in his life. Poetry, poetry is a literary work in which is given to the expression of feelings and ideas by the use of distinctive style and rhythm. Meandering watery worlds, like you and the black umbrella, the one you will lose on purpose at day s end so you can go the way you came into the world, wet looking. Initially this stanza shows longing in a way ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Why fades a dream? Of consciousness the shade wrought out by lack of light and made upon life s stream. Why fades a dream? This question asks and answers Why does a dream fade? a dream fades as Dunbar states when the moon is setting and the sun is rising. That once the sun rises awareness of reality takes over your body so you can rise to put your dreams into action so they become a reality. And like waxing star beam glow upon life s stream so fades a dream. States that once your ambitions have been accomplished your dreams about growing to be an extraordinary human are completed, so all you have to look forward to is death. In a manner death can be great or it can be dreadful depending on who is asked. It can be great if your life has been lived to the fullest but it can be dreaded if you did not do your best to be the person you have dreamt of being So fades a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 34. The Era Of America After The Antebellum Period It is believed that the beginning of a task is often the most important as well as the most difficult, because it consists of discovering the basis to success with a greater chance of failure. The establishment of America after gaining independence from Great Britain relied heavily on the foundations set during the antebellum period, which is often classified as the period of time before the civil war. During such vital time in American history came a number of fundamental Supreme Court cases. The outcome of various cases significantly shaped the future of America into the country we know today. Perhaps some of the most important cases include Marbury v. Madison, Gibbons v. Ogden, and Dred Scott v. Sandford. McCulloch v. Maryland is possibly the most prominent Supreme Court case throughout the antebellum period that occurred in 1819, even though different interpretations of the Necessary and Proper Clause have led to many controversies regarding its meaning and the potential supreme authority of congress, this landmark case established that the federal government has certain implied powers under the constitution. Primarily, individuals who supported the National Bank argued that the bank was essential in regulating the money distributed by state banks. However, many states wanted nothing concerning the National Bank in their precincts in fear of state banks being rundown. Citizens that opposed claimed that Congress did not have the power to establish a National Bank and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 35. Questions On The Robotic Fundamentals Module This document explains my approach to solve the coursework questions for the Robotic Fundamentals module. The coursework is divided into three different parts. The first part of the coursework asks to derive the forward and inverse kinematics of a serial manipulator (Lynxmotion arm AL5B) and plot its workspace and trajectories. The second part asks to develop a kinematic simulation of the parallel robot. The third part is an open ended relevant topic. Matlab software is used here to create model for simulation. 2. Serial Robot Kinematics (Part 1) The 5 degree of freedom Lynxmotion arm AL5B consists of a base, a shoulder, a elbow, a wrist, a wrist rotation and a gripper. To analysis its kinematics, we need to first know the relationship between each link of the robot arms. Figure 2.0 AL5B Lynxmotion Robotic Arm 3.1 Joint and Link Structure Figure 2.1 Joint and Link Labeling First and foremost, we need to set up a model for analysis purposes. The names of joint and link are labeled accordingly. All joints here are revolute and the end effector is assigned as i6. (Figure 2.1) 3.2 Reference Frame for General Convention Figure 2.2 Reference Frame for General Convention For general convention, frames with same orientation are applied to all joints. (Figure 2.2) Each joint has a joint variable, either revolute or prismatic. The individual transformation matrix can be derived to describe the variable change from joint (i 1) to i. The ...
