POLICY GUIDELINES ON AWARDS
AND RECOGNITION FOR THE K-12
BASIC EDUCATION PROGRAM

What awards do we give?
• Classroom awards – are recognition given to each class or section. It can be given
by quarter, per semester or at the end of the school year. Awardees are given
merit by their teachers/ class adviser in recognition of the learners outstanding
performance.
• Grade-Level Awards – are given to qualified learners for every grade level at the
end of the school year. Candidates are deliberated by the Awards Committee if
they have met the given criteria.
• Special Recognition – is given by the to the learners who have won in competitions
at the district, division, regional, national or international levels.
A. Classroom Awards
1. Performance Awards for Kindergarten
- learners in this level should be recognized for their most event and prmoninent
abilities. They can also be recognized in the improvement in certain areas (ex:
having poor fine-motor skills to be able to draw and write.
- They have no numerical grades.
- Teachers are advise to recognize outstanding achievement of learners based on
different domains.
- Teachers can choose from the domains listed below
2. Conduct awards – awarded to those who have been observed to consistently
demonstrate the DepEd Core Values.
2.1 Character trait for Kindergarten to Grade 3 – awards given to learners to
affirm their positive traits and attitudes or to recognize significant improvement in
their behaviour. Examples are listed below:
2.2 Conduct Awards for Grade 4-6
- given at the end of the school year.
- must be based on the evaluation of teacher/adviser using the
guidelines in DO no. 8,s2015 Section VI.
- they must have obtained a rating of at least 75% “Always Observed”
(AO) at the end of the school year (21 out of 28 AO)
- learners must have not been sanctioned with offenses punishable by
suspension within the school year according to Deped’s service manual
and child protection policies.
3.Academic Excellence Award
– is given to learners from grades 1-6 who have attained an average of at least 90
and passed all learning areas within the quarter.
- the average per quarter is reported as a whole number following the DO #8,s2015
- refer to the table below:
4. Recognition for perfect attendance
- award given at the end of every quarter to encourage learners to attend and
actively participate in class.
- it means that a learner must be present in all of his/her classes and no absences
for the entire quarter.
- learners representing the school for various purposes may also qualify for this
award.
B. Grade – Level Awards
1. Academic Excellence Award
- given to learners who have attained a Gen.Ave. of at least 90 and passing final
grade in all learning areas.
-reported as a whole number
- refer to the table below:
2. Leadership Award
- given to learners in grades 6, 10, and 12 who demonstrated exemplary skills in
motivating others and organizing projects that contributed to the betterment of the
school/community
-given during the completion/graduation ceremony.
- To qualify, a learner must:
a: have no failing grade in all learning areas
b: not committed any offenses punishable by suspension
c: Be a class officer or an active member/officer of any recognized school
club, team, organization.
- refer to the table below for the set of criteria and weights that will used by
advisers and peers in evaluation and deliberation process:
3. Awards for Outstanding Performance in Specific Discipline
- awards given to learners in grades 6, 10, and 12 who exhibited
exemplary skills and achievement in specific disciplines. These are
ATHLETICS, ARTS, COMMUNICATION ARTS, MATHEMATICS and SCIENCE,
SOCIAL SCIENCES and TECH-VOC.
- there may be more than one category of awards under the following
disciplines: Athletics, Arts, Communication Arts, and Tech-Voc. There
will be no separate awards for special programs.
- Refer to the table below for the criteria and weights for these
awards:
3.1 Athletics – awarded to learners who shown outstanding skills in athletics
through participation and victories in competitions as well as training and
sportsman like conduct and character. Academic Rating that will be considered for
this award will be the final grade in PE
3.2 Arts – awarded to learners demonstrated outstanding skills in art and
above average creativity and craftsmanship. Academic rating that will considered is
the final grade in Music and Arts.
3.3 Communication Arts – given to learners who demonstrated proficiency in
any language in written and oral communication. Academic rating that will be
considered is the final grade in Filipino, English or other foreign language subjects.
3.4 Science – given to learners who have high academic standing in science.
Academic rating that will be considered is the final grade in Science for grades 6
and 10.
3.5 Mathematics – given to learners who have high academic standing in
Mathematics, demonstrated passion for Math, shows enthusiasm for math.
Academic Rating that will be considered is the final grade in Mathematics for
grades 6 and 10.
3.6 Social Sciences – given to learners who have high academic standing in
social sciences. Academic Rating that will be considered will be the final grade in
Araling Panlipunan for grades 6 and 10.
3.7 Technical-Vocational Education – given to learners who have exhibited
exemplary skills and achievement in their area of specialization in Tech-Voc
education. Academic Rating that will be considered for this award will be the final
grade in TLE for grades 6 and 10
4. Award for Club or Organization Achievement - awarded to recognized club or
organization that has created positive impact on the school/community.
C. Special Recognition
- learners who represented and won in competitions at the district, division,
regional, national or international levels will be recognized.
- Schools may give due recognition to learners who have brought honor to the
school.
- Actual certificates, medals, trophies/plaques received by the learners shall be
used to publicly affirm and acknowledge the contribution of the awardees
- In case of external sponsors, they shall be regulated by the school. These awards
should be consistent with Deped’s Mission, Vission and Core Values.
WHAT DO AWARDEES RECEIVE?
- grade level awardees should receive certificates, medals or
plaques bearing the Official Seal of DepEd.
- Certificates indicating specific awards shall be given to all
awardees. In preparation of the certificates, attention to
proportion and detail is important. The date and venue should also
be complete and accurate.
- Refer to the table below for the Medal and Plaque Specifications.
HOW DO SCHOOLS DETERMINE AWARDEES?
- An Awards Committee (AC) shall be organized by the school head in every school
for each grade level at the beginning of the school year.
- For small school, only one shall be organized.
- Members must composed of at least three members from the teaching staff,
guidance counsilor or designated teacher. The total number of AC should be an
Odd Number.
- The chairperson of AC could be any teachers, department head, grade-level
chairperson or curriculum head.
- No member of the AC should be related within the second degree of
consanguinity or affinity to any of the candidates for awards.
- The AC shall use the report cards and permanent recoreds as the main
reference for Acedemic Excellence Award.
- For other awards, a portfolio of copies of all documents such as Deped
Advisories, written authorization from the SH/Principal, certificates, medals,
trophies, plaques, accomplishment reports and others shall be presented.
- Report of the AC shall be signed by all members of the committee and certified
by the principal.
- If the principal/SH is related to any of the awardees, he/she inhibit
him/herself from the participating in the process. Approval shall come from
the person next in rank.
- Documents shall be kept in the office for ready reference. Copies of result
shall be submitted to the District and Division Offices,

K-12 awards policy guidelines

  • 1. POLICY GUIDELINES ON AWARDS AND RECOGNITION FOR THE K-12 BASIC EDUCATION PROGRAM Ref: Deped Order No. 36, series 2016 Department of Education Region No. VIII Ormoc City Division Ormoc City
  • 2. What awards do we give? • Classroom awards – are recognition given to each class or section. It can be given by quarter, per semester or at the end of the school year. Awardees are given merit by their teachers/ class adviser in recognition of the learners outstanding performance. • Grade-Level Awards – are given to qualified learners for every grade level at the end of the school year. Candidates are deliberated by the Awards Committee if they have met the given criteria. • Special Recognition – is given by the to the learners who have won in competitions at the district, division, regional, national or international levels.
  • 3. A. Classroom Awards 1. Performance Awards for Kindergarten - learners in this level should be recognized for their most event and prmoninent abilities. They can also be recognized in the improvement in certain areas (ex: having poor fine-motor skills to be able to draw and write. - They have no numerical grades. - Teachers are advise to recognize outstanding achievement of learners based on different domains. - Teachers can choose from the domains listed below

Conduct awards – awarded to those who have been observed to consistently demonstrate the DepEd Core Values. 2.1 Character trait for Kindergarten to Grade 3 – awards given to learners to affirm their positive traits and attitudes or to recognize significant improvement in their behaviour. Examples are listed below:
  • 6. 2.2 Conduct Awards for Grade 4-6 - given at the end of the school year. - must be based on the evaluation of teacher/adviser using the guidelines in DO no. 8,s2015 Section VI. - they must have obtained a rating of at least 75% “Always Observed” (AO) at the end of the school year (21 out of 28 AO) - learners must have not been sanctioned with offenses punishable by suspension within the school year according to Deped’s service manual and child protection policies. 3.Academic Excellence Award – is given to learners from grades 1-6 who have attained an average of at least 90 and passed all learning areas within the quarter. - the average per quarter is reported as a whole number following the DO #8,s2015 - refer to the table below:

Recognition for perfect attendance - award given at the end of every quarter to encourage learners to attend and actively participate in class. - it means that a learner must be present in all of his/her classes and no absences for the entire quarter. - learners representing the school for various purposes may also qualify for this award.
  • 8. B. Grade – Level Awards 1. Academic Excellence Award - given to learners who have attained a Gen.Ave. of at least 90 and passing final grade in all learning areas. -reported as a whole number - refer to the table below:

Leadership Award - given to learners in grades 6, 10, and 12 who demonstrated exemplary skills in motivating others and organizing projects that contributed to the betterment of the school/community -given during the completion/graduation ceremony. - To qualify, a learner must: a: have no failing grade in all learning areas b: not committed any offenses punishable by suspension c: Be a class officer or an active member/officer of any recognized school club, team, organization. - refer to the table below for the set of criteria and weights that will used by advisers and peers in evaluation and deliberation process:

  • 11. 3. Awards for Outstanding Performance in Specific Discipline - awards given to learners in grades 6, 10, and 12 who exhibited exemplary skills and achievement in specific disciplines. These are ATHLETICS, ARTS, COMMUNICATION ARTS, MATHEMATICS and SCIENCE, SOCIAL SCIENCES and TECH-VOC. - there may be more than one category of awards under the following disciplines: Athletics, Arts, Communication Arts, and Tech-Voc. There will be no separate awards for special programs. - Refer to the table below for the criteria and weights for these awards:

  • 13. 3.1 Athletics – awarded to learners who shown outstanding skills in athletics through participation and victories in competitions as well as training and sportsman like conduct and character. Academic Rating that will be considered for this award will be the final grade in PE 3.2 Arts – awarded to learners demonstrated outstanding skills in art and above average creativity and craftsmanship. Academic rating that will considered is the final grade in Music and Arts. 3.3 Communication Arts – given to learners who demonstrated proficiency in any language in written and oral communication. Academic rating that will be considered is the final grade in Filipino, English or other foreign language subjects. 3.4 Science – given to learners who have high academic standing in science. Academic rating that will be considered is the final grade in Science for grades 6 and 10.
  • 14. 3.5 Mathematics – given to learners who have high academic standing in Mathematics, demonstrated passion for Math, shows enthusiasm for math. Academic Rating that will be considered is the final grade in Mathematics for grades 6 and 10. 3.6 Social Sciences – given to learners who have high academic standing in social sciences. Academic Rating that will be considered will be the final grade in Araling Panlipunan for grades 6 and 10. 3.7 Technical-Vocational Education – given to learners who have exhibited exemplary skills and achievement in their area of specialization in Tech-Voc education. Academic Rating that will be considered for this award will be the final grade in TLE for grades 6 and 10 4. Award for Club or Organization Achievement - awarded to recognized club or organization that has created positive impact on the school/community.
  • 15. C. Special Recognition - learners who represented and won in competitions at the district, division, regional, national or international levels will be recognized. - Schools may give due recognition to learners who have brought honor to the school. - Actual certificates, medals, trophies/plaques received by the learners shall be used to publicly affirm and acknowledge the contribution of the awardees - In case of external sponsors, they shall be regulated by the school. These awards should be consistent with Deped’s Mission, Vission and Core Values.

WHAT DO AWARDEES RECEIVE? - grade level awardees should receive certificates, medals or plaques bearing the Official Seal of DepEd. - Certificates indicating specific awards shall be given to all awardees. In preparation of the certificates, attention to proportion and detail is important. The date and venue should also be complete and accurate. - Refer to the table below for the Medal and Plaque Specifications.

HOW DO SCHOOLS DETERMINE AWARDEES? - An Awards Committee (AC) shall be organized by the school head in every school for each grade level at the beginning of the school year. - For small school, only one shall be organized. - Members must composed of at least three members from the teaching staff, guidance counsilor or designated teacher. The total number of AC should be an Odd Number. - The chairperson of AC could be any teachers, department head, grade-level chairperson or curriculum head. - No member of the AC should be related within the second degree of consanguinity or affinity to any of the candidates for awards.

  • 21. - The AC shall use the report cards and permanent recoreds as the main reference for Acedemic Excellence Award. - For other awards, a portfolio of copies of all documents such as Deped Advisories, written authorization from the SH/Principal, certificates, medals, trophies, plaques, accomplishment reports and others shall be presented. - Report of the AC shall be signed by all members of the committee and certified by the principal. - If the principal/SH is related to any of the awardees, he/she inhibit him/herself from the participating in the process. Approval shall come from the person next in rank. - Documents shall be kept in the office for ready reference. Copies of result shall be submitted to the District and Division Offices,
