8. Concentration Details…. Elementary: -Students choose one area of concentration. -Does not impact license, with the exception of Reading -In most concentrations, 6 hours double count for both program area and concentration. Middle Grades -Students choose two areas of concentration. -These areas determine what students will be licensed to teach. - 6 hours double count in both program area and concentrations.
9. Concentration Details….. Special Education -Reading is the built in concentration for general curriculum. -Disability services is the built in concentration for adapted curriculum. ENED, HIED, and MATHED: -Do not have areas of concentration. SCIED: -Concentrations are outlined on the checklists. Students will choose one area of science.

12. Professional Attire….. Practicum/field work in the public school setting requires appropriate professional attire. You are a pre-service professional when you are in the field, not a college student. As you will begin this work in your 2123 course, you should plan appropriately for this. Purchase khaki, navy or black pants and some shirts that look professional- button up with collars- so that you will be ready for your field work/practicum in the school setting when that time arrives.

PRAXIS I …a standardized test in reading, writing and math skills …must be successfully completed (unless exempt due to SAT/ACT scores) for admission to Upper Division …should not be delayed, as delays may cause serious problems with course availability (usually taken by the end of sophomore year) …can currently be taken in written paper/pencil format or computer based format …paper/pencil applications are available in the Testing Center- Brewster D-102 (252)328-6811 …computer based information is available at Prometric Testing Center where the phone number is (252) 756- 5893.

Other Considerations ECU has an outstanding College of Education- undergraduate and graduate programs Current market for teachers: There is still a shortage but needs are greater in the areas of special education, middle grades education and math/science. Masters degrees and National Board Certification can enhance salary 22-24% COAD 1000 This is a “Welcome to College” course to help students get acclimated to post secondary study. It is an elective and a terrific course to take if you feel so inclined.
17. Your “Perfect” Schedule… Please remember that you are registering later than current ECU students this time. You will want to pick up the open sections of courses you need and try to change them if you want when schedules are dropped for non-payment. We can consider substitutions for courses but you will need to check with your advisor when you meet . Example: We could sub World Geog transferred in for GEOG 1000. Please make sure to pay attention to classes that are listed on any given line on the checklist as you will need only one of these classes to fulfill that requirement. Examples: ELEM: GEOG 1000,2100, 0r 2110 MIDG: ART 1910, MUSC 2208, THEA 1000 or DNCE 1000 SPED: COMM 2510 or COMM 2520
18. “Perfect” Schedule …. Classes can be addedthrough August 31st. Classes can be dropped without penalty through August 30th. Classes can be dropped with penalty- students geta designated number of late drops and should use them wisely- through October 19th . 19. ONESTOP/BANNER Notes…….. You can check to see if CC credits have transferred by clicking on Student Record/Academic Transcript in BANNER- questions go to the Registrar. When you are registering for classes, a C indicates that a section is closed. 600 sections are online *You are eligible to register for the lower 600 sections: 601, 602, 603 etc. *Sections 620 and higher are restricted to cohorts of students and you can’t register for them.

21. Step 5: Once you have entered your information, select the Class Search link at the bottom. This returns a list of all courses meeting the criterion you entered. Select the section you want by checking the box next to that section. If a “C” appears, the section is already closed.
22. Step 6: After checking the appropriate section box, scroll to the bottom and select Register.
23. Step 7: You will be taken back to your schedule to view it with the new class added. If there were any errors such as pre-requisites, co-requisites or other restrictions, the error will display with your schedule and the course will not be added.
24. Step 8: Repeat steps 4-7 to add additional classes.
25. Step 9: To drop classes, pull the drop down menu beside the course you wish to drop and select ** Web Dropped**.
26. Step 10: At the bottom, select the Submit Changes link and the course will be removed from your schedule.
