The Organ Of Organ Transplantation
One of the most significant issues concerning organ transplantation revolves around the just and fair
distribution of organs. Due to the assorted and occasionally conflicting opinions of what constitutes as
fair , in concurrence with a relative shortage of donated organs, many social, legal and ethical
contentions have arisen. This shortage is portrayed by statistics shown on the NHS organ donation
page, where approximately 10,000 people are on the waiting list for a solid organ transplant and
approximately 1,000 people die annually whilst waiting for an organ transplant and in 2013, a record
4,655 patients received a solid organ transplant (National Health Service, 2014).
Furthermore, it is important to observe the fact that the organ donor deficit is growing, even factoring
in the 50 percent increase in live donations since 2008. This deficit can be attributed to the rate of
increase in donated organs falling short of the greater increase in transplant requiring patients. This
can be further illustrated statistically where the number of people requiring organs has increased from
approximately 8,700 to approximately 10,000 between 2005 and 2013 (National Health Service,
2014). There are a myriad of contributing factors that can be held responsible for the rise in required
organs, including the prevalence of diseases inflicted through lifestyle choices i.e. obesity and
smoking, as well as improved medical science resulting in an aging population. Additionally, there are

Trojan War Research Paper
During the Trojan War, the gods were viewed as powerful but they were also divided and limited.
While the gods were viewed as powerful during the Trojan War , they were also divided amongst
which god was on the side of the Trojans or the Greeks. Before the war started, three goddesses have
been trying to decide who was the most beautiful. The choices were Aphrodite, Hera, or Athena, they
asked Zeus and he told them about Paris considering that he is a great judge of beauty. Once the
goddesses found Paris, each were trying to bribe him with the best thing the goddess could provide.
Paris chooses Aphrodite due to her promising him that she will give him the most beautiful girl in the
world, Helen, she is the daughter of Zeus and Leda. Once he steals Helen from the Greek man,

Electric Components, Open Architecture Systems,...
3. Background
These ideas and technologies have been used in other industries but they can be adapted to these
vehicles, in order to improve their cost, effectiveness, and maneuverability. Key concepts that can be
borrow are all electric components, open architecture systems, modularity, active suspension and
control, plug and play components and autonomy.
3.1. All Electrical and Modular Automobile
Automobiles have used internal combustion engine since the first prototypes were assembled. There is
a growing trend to change the driving force with electric motors and go all electric or hybrid. There
has been extensive research on batteries and power management systems that can hold more charge
and for longer time. Electronics and motors have a more active response that can adapt itself to the
environment working more efficiently that hydraulic actuators. Also they electric actuators consume
less power and are more robust than theory hydraulic counterparts.
In addition to having just electrical components, modularity is novel concept that help create costume
vehicles design for a specific task with out the cost of building a prototype. With a modular and
reconfigurability concept architecture, the motor can be change given the environment or the task.
Today we can have low power more efficient motor for the city duties but later we can interexchange
it for a more powerful and torque dense motor for an off road adventure (Tesar, 2014).

Comparing The Rates And Trend Of Homicide
Home Samples Comparison of Homicide Rates in Puerto Rico and San Juan COMPARISON OF
HOMICIDE RATES IN PUERTO RICO AND SAN JUAN
Abstract
There have been continuous researches on the relationship between segregation and homicide across
the state of Puerto Rico. This study will effectively determine if Puerto Rico has high crimes in
homicide as compared to other metropolitan statistical area that is San Juan. The research will focus
on a ten year comparison that is from the year 1998 to 2008. Using various statistics it is evident that
rise in homicide is wide especially when the Puerto Ricans are segregated from the whites.

Due to this issue of segregation this study will examine direct and indirect impact of female headed
household on homicides. It is evident that for all the Puerto Ricans are not widely associated with
homicide as compared to the discussed metropolitan statistical area (Steve, 2010).
Introduction
From various statistics, it is very clear that the rates of crimes in Puerto Rico have significantly
increased as compared to other metropolitan statistical areas. The various kinds of crime described in
Puerto Rico from statistics of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) include robbery, rape,
aggravated assault and homicide. Due to this case of crimes it is very evident that the state of Puerto
Rico required immediate solutions that will assist to curb down the various form of crimes.
In introducing this topic it is important that the population being covered by the Puerto Ricans is
discussed in comparison to that of San Juan state. It is important to emphasize on how the population
of the Puerto Ricans differs from that of the San Juan and how this difference have contributed to the
rising number of crime cases (Steve, 2010).
An empirical assessment having being done indicate that the crime being experience in Puerto Rico is
largely being contributed by the following two reasons. Firstly, due to the scarcity of primary data on
homicide cases which is constantly being eliminated from various analysis of crimes by the United
States and secondly, Puerto Rico have

The Idea Of Natural Selection
The idea of anthropocentrism provides comfort to humans. It posits that in this messy,
incomprehensible world, we are still the central species. This idea allows, and even encourages,
humans to view the world through a very anthropological lens and assume that, because we are the
dominant and most important species, nature works in human terms and is the domain of man. The
idea of creationism is very anthropocentric itself. In the Hebrew Bible, man was created before all
other animals and designed in God s image. He was given domain over nature by God as well. This
idea of human supremacy and exceptionalism has persisted into modernity, but the advent of Darwin s
evolutionary theory altered human s perception of themselves and the natural world.
The typical belief in human dominance was shaken through Darwin s idea of natural selection and
evolution which posited that humans, just as all other species descended from some one prototype
(484). The descendants of this one prototype evolved based on natural selection. Evolution led to the
creation of all organisms, living and extinct, including humans. The theory of evolution challenged the
ideas of human exceptionalism and anthropocentrism by including humans in the same category as all
other organisms, organisms that we as humans feel superior to. In evolutionary theory, humans
become simply another species that managed to survive the struggle for existence rather than a master
of nature created in the image of

Analysis Of The Right To Bear Clubs By Dave Barry
The right to bear clubs is a biting satire by Dave Barry in which he employs satire and many of its
techniques to stealthily poke fun at heated topic of gun ownership and regulation in the United States.
Berry seems to be targeting the governments poor handling of the gun crisis by using a Ballistic
Driver golf club as an allegory for a firearm while bringing up arguments used for and against
firearms. The audience for this particular work is relatively broad considering most everyone has an
opinion on the topic, yet the reader could interpret the satire to be either for against Americans right to
bear arms. Just reading along the surface, Barry s work could easily appear to lean towards firearm
possession but after reading deeper and picking up on the more ... Show more content on

He takes the pitch for the Ballistic Driver and lampoons it until it s blown out of proportion; the
exaggeration of how draining and strenuous playing with normal clubs is showcases his use of
hyperbole. By mentioning the concern of street gangs converting [the] clubs and seeing Saddam

clubs to be used hostilely; pointing to the analogous argument seen on real topics. Barry heavily
employs innuendos of golf clubs to indirectly reference firearms allowing him to address a very heated
debate under the guise of a leisurely sport. He uses diction such as silencer, Activator Button (trigger),
Always assume your club is loaded, and the right to keep and bear golf clubs (common gun safety
phrases). The author beautifully uses allegory in the last paragraph of the piece to figurately discuss
the debate on banning firearms while literally discussing the banning of swing less golf clubs. Finally,
Barry utilizes sarcasm in the beginning paragraphs by ironically praising

Juvenile Justice Systems And The Adult Justice System
It is common knowledge that the juvenile justice system and the regular adult justice system have
differing regulations. Juveniles have different trial proceedings and rights than adult offenders because
juveniles are minors and are still considered their parent s or the state s responsibility. Minors are not
seen as able to make important decisions regarding anything, like medical care, so it is logical that
they are treated differently from the adults in the criminal justice system, from arrest to punishment.
Mrs. Ceressa Haney, who is a Senior Probation and Pretrial Officer in Leon County says that working
with juveniles isn t all that different than working with the adults. Looking from the outside, it seems
like being a probation officer would be one of the hardest positions when dealing with any criminal,
from juvenile to adult, because they are likely to give you a difficult time. In reality, juvenile courts
have not always been around. In the past someone as young as eight years old could be prosecuted as
an adult. Though if the person was seven years old or younger they were incapable of criminal intent.
(Neubauer 445) Eventually at the end of the nineteenth century, the parens patriae doctrine came
about. This doctrine states that if the parents are not succeeding in raising their children correctly, the
state has the capability and right to step in and intercede. A child constantly breaking laws is definite
grounds for the state to step in. This parens patriae

Suggestions For Choosing Replacement Windows For Your Cabin In The Woods
If you re planning to renovate a cabin in the woods so you ll have a place for weekend getaways, you
ll probably want to replace the windows with more energy efficient versions. You ll also want the
windows to be durable and require little maintenance in the years to come. Here are some some
suggestions for choosing the ideal replacement windows for your cabin.
Consider Aluminum Clad Wood Frames
Aluminum clad wood frames are a good match for cabins because they give your place the traditional
appearance of wood on the inside, but the outside has a protective layer of aluminum. These windows
are made with wood on the side that faces indoors and metal on the exterior side. The metal is
available in different colors, which is a plus if you want to match the color to your metal roof or add a
touch of color to accent the cabin s wood exterior.
The biggest advantage to having these windows is that they require much less maintenance than full
wood frames. The exterior metal surface won t rot or attract ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

However, you want the windows to be as secure as possible when you are away. While it is difficult to
make your windows 100% burglar proof, there are some things you can do to make the glass difficult
to break. You could choose glass that is impact resistant or you could have security film applied to the
glass. Another option is to buy windows made of acrylic that is transparent like glass but much
stronger. You don t only have to worry about intruders breaking into the windows. If the cabin is
surrounded by trees, a storm could knock a branch into the glass and break it if you don t have security
glass. Animals may even bang against the glass trying to get inside the cabin. For these reasons, you
want glass that resists breaking, or glass that can t be knocked out of the frame even if it

Newspaper Report On The Newspaper
Newspaper If you step outside depending on where you live you get your local newspaper each
morning. Many people all around us enjoy the newspaper and the stories in it that provide us with
local news as well as news from a couple cities down. Newspapers first began their journey in the 18th
century, when the colonial newspaper was published. The first piece of news that would later help
conjure up the newspaper only had one news item on it. A man named James Franklin who was the
younger sibling of Benjamin Franklin wrote a simple one page news sheet. Some in the past saw the
newspaper as a way of servicing god, therefore to them the newspaper would contain stories in which

Applying Critical Thinking And Reading Skills
Taking this class has taught me a lot about myself as a learner. At the beginning of this course I
defined learning as how one takes in information in their surroundings and applies it to their life.
While I do still believe that is a part of the learning process, I now know how to properly use my
strong suits and weaknesses to get the best results from the information presented to me. With the
information I have acquired throughout this course, I would also include applying critical thinking and
reading skills to better decipher the information gained to my definition of learning. Knowing how to
interpret the information given to you is a huge part of learning. I am a strong willed learner, I am able
use all of my patterns on a use first basis with the exception of confluence. My LCI score for
confluence is 20 which means I use it at an as needed level, while I prefer not to use it often I am able
to use it effectively. I mainly use this pattern when I am working with customers and patients and do
not want to come across as robotic and only giving the standard verbatim for their concerns. Technical
reasoning is another pattern that is on the lower end of my LCI scores, I received a 26 for this pattern.

exact instructions. While working in my patient s homes, I sometimes like to figure out how to set up

Mandatory Military Conscription and Its Effect on Society...
In todays society the war in the Middle East can be considered a controversial topic. The men and
women in Iraq and Afghanistan put their lives on the line every day to help keep our country free. No
one has forced them to serve in the United States Armed Forces they have made their own conscience
decision to serve. However these men and women only make up a small percentage of the United
States population. Should all men and women be required to serve in the U.S. armed forces when they

During World War I about three fourths of the 3.5 million unit armed forces came from conscription.
During this time period many people felt that conscription was unconstitutional. However the United
States Supreme court upheld the constitutionality of the draft by stating that Article I of the
constitution gives Congress the power to raise and support Armies . In the year 1940 after the fall of
France in World War II the United States Congress enacted a peace time draft. If drafted during this
time period conscripts were only required to serve one year. After the bombing of Pearl Harbor
however congress
Smith 3 extended the length of the draft and expanded the draft to me aged 18 to 38. Approximately
ten million men were drafted through the Selective Service System as a result. Throughout the Cold
War the draft helped to maintain the numbers of the U.S. armed forces. The Selective Service System
drafted 1.5 million men during the Korean War. During the Vietnam War, draftees were a minority of
the United States armed forces. However they accounted for over half of Army battle deaths. At the
time of the Vietnam War many people were against the draft and the war itself. This meant that there
were many protests against the draft. Eventually President Nixon reduced the number of draftees and
gradually recalled troops from Vietnam. The draft officially ended in1973. There are two very obvious
sides to conscription. They are those

Excitement in the Airport Terminal
With clear emerald eyes illuminating with enthusiasm, the young child s face bursts with happiness,
showering down like rain as the sweet taste of excitement lingers in the air as he chases around his
siblings whilst tugging on his parents arms. They are drained from the child s constant yelling and
their heavy eyes slowly alter to a dark shade of cerulean and fill with extreme fatigueness. Their eyes
gradually begin to shut, however much they long to stay wide open. Across the parents, the two
teenagers are like robots; their shoulders are slouched as they drag their feet, one step at a time, to the
nearest seat, as they stay glued to their phones, unaware of the world around them. The innocent child
then moves his attention to the panes of glass beside him, his eyes fill with enlightenment as he gazes
at the plane outside, observing every inch of detail, in fascination. The wheels on the plane begin to
take off the concrete floor. Once the plane begins to flee, disappearing into the skies above; the boy
feels a sense of freedom come over him. Suddenly, the parents sense of hearing heightens as they hear
an announcement call from the corner of the airport, informing all passengers of their flight to board.

for their weekend break disappears as they dread the chaos that their young will cause aboard.

Moral Permissibility Of Humanitarian Intervention
Humanitarian Intervention is perhaps the most controversial principle of international law and
although it has been theoretically present for a long period of time but it is in the recent decades we
find real development and practical implementation of it. There are a number of questions that have
been haunting the international community and holding them back from adopting a liberal approach
towards the Principle of Humanitarian Intervention. Whether or not it is morally permissible or even
morally obligatory for a state to intervene in internal affairs of a State to stop Grave Human Rights
violation? A States claim of Immunity against intervention based on the longstanding Principles of
Sovereignty is legitimate to what extent? Whether ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For, it is frequently observed by proponents of humanitarian intervention that the heinous types of
crimes which are often claimed to warrant humanitarian intervention are almost exclusively caused by
or sanctioned by the oppressed people s own state. The list of acts which are frequently claimed to
warrant humanitarian intervention usually includes mass enslavement, genocide, large scale massacre
(whether genocidal in intent or not), mass expulsion, and so on. These types of crimes are almost
unthinkable without the state s active or passive involvement, and this fact explains Walzer s ominous
warning that people s own states represent the greatest danger in the world today. At the same time,
however, much of the work on humanitarian intervention is thoroughly permeated by the quixotic
assumption that intervening states themselves do not represent a significant danger to their own
subjects.
Instead, intervening states are conceived as somehow different from other states, they are legitimate,
to use the familiar term. Without this assumption that intervening states are legitimate, (and, hence,
represent no serious danger to their own subjects), the debate surrounding humanitarian intervention
would be considerably altered. If, instead, all states were conceived to pose an extremely dangerous
threat to their own subjects, (an argument I intend to make below), it seems unlikely that philosophers
would so readily endorse the moral permissibility of state humanitarian

Essay on Analysis of Alice Munro s How I Met My Husband
Analysis of Alice Munro s How I Met My Husband
All of it is clear to a person who has understanding and right to those who have acquired knowledge.
(Proverbs 8:6 9)
Alice Munro gives a good example of the meaning of this in her story How I Met My Husband . The
theme of this story is under certain circumstances people can sometimes be blind to the truth.
The main character, Edie, provides the narration of the story from a first person point of view. She
tells her story based on an event from her past. Because she narrates the story the reader is unable to
be sure if what she tells of the other characters is completely accurate. Because one does not hear

She was very responsible for her age because she took care of the Peebleses two children and of their
house. Yet, she was uneducated and did not know much about love or boys. She told of how she
longed for a boyfriend or someone to kiss. Sometimes when you want things bad enough you begin to
believe they are true. For example, because Edie really wanted someone to love her, she really
believed Chris would send her a letter. However, if she would have examined his prior actions, like
how he treated Alice, Edie could have come to the conclusion that there would be no letter.
Another character important in the story was Chris. He was a soldier in the war. Supposedly, he was
engaged to Alice but from the way he treated her, one would question it. Also, he was cowardly
because he ran away from her rather than telling her how he truly felt, he said, ...A plane can get
further than a car . Also, the reader may believe he is running away from his feelings because of
something deeper. Maybe the war had injured him emotionally or mentally. These factors will
definitely make it hard to discover what is true.
Also, the character of Alice has some interesting meaning to the story. The character of Alice may be
modeled after the author Alice Munro because they have shared similar experiences between men.
Apparently, the author had been through a divorce and many of the

Absorption
Alcohol is absorbed from all parts of the gastrointestinal tract largely by simple diffusion into the
blood. However the small intestine is by far the most efficient region of the gastrointestinal tract for
alcohol absorption because of its very large surface area. In a fasting individual, it is generally agreed
that 10% to 20% of a dose of alcohol is absorbed from the stomach (the volume of alcohol affects the
absorption) and 75% to 80% is absorbed from the small ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Alcohol Content
It s not how many drinks that you have, but how much alcohol that you consume. The concentration
of the drinks that one ingest can have a slight effect on the peak alcohol concentration due to the
differences in absorption rate of different concentrations of alcohol. Alcohol is most rapidly absorbed
when the concentration of the drink is between 10% and 30%. Below 10% the concentration gradient
in the gastrointestinal tract is low and slows absorption and the added volumes of liquid involved slow
gastric emptying. On the other hand concentrations higher than 30% tend to irritate the mucous
membranes of the gastrointestinal tract and the pyloric sphincter, causing increased secretion of
mucous and delayed gastric emptying.
Food
Food taken along with alcohol results in a lower, delayed blood alcohol concentration peak (the point
of greatest intoxication). There are two major factors involved in this phenomenon.
First, because alcohol is absorbed most efficiently in the small intestine, the ingestion of food can
slow down the absorption of alcohol into one s system. The pyloric valve at the bottom of the stomach
will close in order to hold food in the stomach for digestion and thus keep the alcohol from reaching
the small intestine.

Fetal Abnormality Case Study Essay
Fetal Abnormality Case Study The advancement of medical technology has made it possible to detect
medical abnormalities while a child is still a fetus and can create difficult choices for parents to make
if severe anomalies are discovered. There are many theories regarding the moral status of the fetus that
can be applied when deciding how to proceed if these abnormalities are detected. In the fetal
abnormality case study, Jessica, Marco, Maria, and Dr. Wilson each have varying opinions on what
course of action to take based on these different theories of moral status. Jessica is torn between her
desire to be financially independent and her belief that all life has value. Her belief is what Sebo (n.d.)

Maria is absolutely opposed to any mention of termination. She views the moral status of the fetus
based on Jessica s responsibility as a mother, or the theory of moral agency based on relationships
(GCU, 2015). This theory states that a person must not interfere with another person or must respect
their rights because they have a relationship with them (GCU, 2015; Jaworska Tannenbaum, 2013).
For example, the relationship between a parent and their child, or in this case their fetus, provides a
particularly strong case for a parent not to kill their child or abort their fetus (Jaworska Tannenbaum,
2013). Aside from the relationship of Jessica and her fetus which may prevent her from terminating,
this theory is also applicable in this case to Marco and Jessica, as he is going to support any decision
that she makes based on their relationship. It can also be applied to the physician patient relationship,
so Dr. Wilson must respect Jessica s and Marco s rights as parents and their choice because of their
relationship. Because moral status has to do with which beings have value or rights, I tend to agree
with the theory of sentience. I believe that animals do have rights, especially in terms of biomedical
ethics and research. I may, however, seem hypocritical in this belief because I am not a vegetarian. But
in this case, based on this theory I would be likely to terminate the pregnancy at this early stage due to

Analysis Of The Poem Snake
Upon reading and reflecting on the poem Snake by D.H. Lawrence, I couldn t help but feel like the
poem hearkens back to Emily Dickinson s poems A Narrow Fellow in the Grass and even A Bird,
Came Down the Walk. Like Dickinson s poems there is a recognition of not only the beauty and
majesty that is in nature but also the danger that lurks in the unknown. Lawrence s Snake , like
Dickinson s poems, utilizes personification, not only to connect humankind to nature, but also to
elevate the serpent to an almost human level. I will focus on the poem Snake by D.H Lawrence and
explore the ways the speaker in the poem uses this personification, sound devices, allusion, language
and even structure to convey the speakers reverence and fear of nature, more specifically the snake or
subject in the natural realm. As Snake begins we are introduced to the speaker encountering this
element of the wild, the snake. Early in the poem, the language utilizes the use of sound devices that
not only immerse the reader in the scenario, but also the speaker at the level of the snake. Lines 4 13

Steven Chbosky s Perks Of Being A Wallflower
Steven Chbosky s Perks of Being a Wallflower, a coming of age and teenage life novel, shows its
audience how real and candid an explicit young adults novel can be.
For these reasons the book has been a center point of controversy and has been criticized by book
reviewers and adults alike particularly for its use of sexuality, drug use, rape, and graphic language.
However, many students and book associations have defended against its banning claiming that it
allows them to relate to the reality of the book and gives them dialogue that helps them face the
challenges of being a teenager.

A Report On Ghana And Its Effects On African Countries And...
Ghana has a lot of graduates who are who are not working or struggling to find jobs due to how the
country is run by its leaders. I d like to make a request, considering our company s branch in Ghana
that we will take on a project to help develop and educate these young graduates on how to start a
business or find a job. There are many good things that can happen in Ghana which can affect many
African countries and the rest of the world. Ghana is known for its rich natural resources (gold,
diamond, cocoa and oil) but with all that, the country is still struggling to create jobs for its citizens.
This is because the resources are not developed before being exported out of the country. The country
is losing money because they don t have the industries and companies to develop these raw materials
into finished products which would create massive jobs in the country and help boost the economy.
Booming economies always attract foreign investors and in turn even more jobs will be created which
will help the young graduates get jobs. Our company has all the personnel and skills to make a
difference in Ghana and help these young students find jobs.
Approximately 5000 students graduate from the University of Ghana every year. Ghana has over 10
universities and 10 polytechnics. The country is predicted to have over 300,000 graduates who are
unemployed this year. Where are the jobs for these graduates? There are so many students going home
every year after school with their heads up

Comparing Ludwig Beethoven And Beethoven s Appassionata...
Both Ludwig Beethoven s Appassionata piano sonata and Franz Liszt s B minor sonata are recognized
as some of the best compositions of the nineteenth century. The complexity and creativity of these
pieces are astonishing. Considering both pieces are sonatas they have some similar aspects, but they
are also very different which can be credited to the brilliant minds who composed them. These pieces
are both masterpieces of their time which is what has made them stand out amongst the many songs
composed during the nineteenth century. In this paper I will touch on the significant attributes of these
pieces and compare their similarities and differences.
The first piece I will introduce is Appassionata by Ludwig Van Beethoven. Appassionata was
composed during a time of many changes in both Beethoven s life and the musical world around him.
By 1800 Beethoven s hearing had deteriorated so much that he was almost completely deaf. Although
this was not something easy to cope with, Beethoven did not let this obstacle hinder his career. In fact,
in many aspects his works flourished, and a new wave of creativity sparked in his career. Beethoven
was not the first to compose a multimovement piece for the piano, but he was the first to stray from
the former expectations of piano sonatas. Beethoven s new sonatas were longer than most and
incorporated dramatic elements. With just one instrument Beethoven was able to convey so much
power and emotion, something that no one at the time

The Main Collective Theory Of Functionalist Theories Essay
The main collective theme in functionalist theories is the ability to look at society as a whole, rather
than making judgements on purely an individual s actions and the motives behind them. In
continuation, firm believers of the ideology that everything in society has a purpose and a designated
role in order for the collective society, to work cohesively and function. The explanation for this
comes from Durkheim, a sociologist who placed importance in consensus to achieve the need for
social order. These concepts can be defined as people within a society, who have a tendency to be
selfish, but by having various institutions within society, they are able to obtain social order pass on
norms, values and morals. Crime can be functional when the rates are low, but dysfunctional to society
when the rates are too high. Furthermore he believed that crime was inevitable in society, because
crime and deviance is the product of a lack of attachment to the prevailing values that were shared
among a collective society. Durkheim widely argued that people were all individuals with different
experiences, so consequently not everyone will inevitably share the same values. Without these shared
norms and values being passed on the prospect of social order cannot be obtained as there will not be a
collective conformity towards them and which is therefore enforced by various institutions and
structures. For example, if a child comes from a working class family or one which does not follow

Nonprofits hold a very important role in actively helping our society. Although people may recognize
the good that comes from nonprofits, they may not necessarily understand where or how that good or
service is made. Strong Women Strong Girls is one of the many nonprofit organizations located in

It kills one s aspirations and dooms him to vagabondage and crime.
In schools during the 1930 s, the education system failed to present authentic African American
History in schools and African Americans were taught that their history meant nothing because most
history books gave little or no space to the black man s presence in America.
Majority of the educator were from Northern and Western institution and had no concerns of a Negro,
they directed their attention to the majority, the whites. The educators taught the blacks that they were
inferior and would be nothing more than what the oppressor wanted them to be. They were shorted out
of genuine education, were taught less than whites, when in actuality they should be taught more than
the white.
The oppressor feared that if the Negro received an adequate education that they would strive for
greater.
If you teach the Negro that he has accomplished as much good as any other race he will aspire to
equality and justice without regard to race. Such an effort would upset the program of the oppressor in
Africa and America. Play up before the Negro, then, his crimes and shortcomings. Let him learn to
admire the Hebrew, the Greek, the Latin and the Teuton. Lead the Negro to detest the man of African

Gentrification And Its Oppressed Residents Essay
The U.S. Gentrification and its Oppressed Residents For the past two decades, gentrification has
become a widely known phenomenon in the U.S. as more wealthy cohorts of population move to quiet
and cheap suburban areas instead of bearing the busy and costly lives in a big city. Changes brought
by the influx of affluent newcomers in the suburban areas are often praised for fostering urban renewal
as well as animating the areas local economy. However, the impacts of gentrification cause several
types of new problems which now afflict long time, low income residents in gentrifying
neighborhoods. With the soaring prices of the real estate market, landlords harassment against low
income tenants, and rising living expenses, gentrification further augments the inequality and conflicts
between the poor and rich inhabitants.
Historically, many of the suburban towns and neighborhoods around the major U.S. cities served as
homes to poor and minority residents, offering cheaper living spaces due to the marginalized and
inconvenient geographical locations with several negative reputations. Yet, given the big cities
overcrowded environment and expensive living cost, these suburban areas are now popular
destinations for people who seek for a less crowded and affordable neighborhood to dwell. According
to statistics by Kolko (2016), in 2015, the population of overall U.S. suburban neighborhoods
increased by 159 million people, while only the total of less than 80 million

Forrest Gump Is The Portrayal Of A Man That Has Been...
Introduction
Life is like a box of chocolates, you never know what you re gonna get. Forrest Gump is the portrayal
of a man that has been alienated from society, not because he is unintelligent or dimwitted, but rather
because he is not restricted by the conventional ideals, which are embedded, within his culture; thus,
Forrest challenges the conformities and principals that most people are accustomed to. The contrast
that Robert Zemeckis, director of the film, is attempting to convey through the character of Forrest
Gump is how most people are too smart for there own good; and thus, try to escape the realities and
actualities of life. While other characters in the story are suppressed by society s conflicts, Forrest
remains blinded to all; hence, he is able to live in the moment, rather than evading what is real. Forrest
s unique selflessness and compelled nature to do what is right, as opposed to what is easy, are what
our society incorrectly labels stupidity or ignorance. Zemeckis is obviously pointing out that an
individual has no control over his or her own destiny and in order to live a noble life, must accept life
as it is.
I think it is very appropriate that Zemeckis begins his movie with the scene in which he does. Starting
with Forrest s worn out and dirty shoes with a camera shot of a feather floating on the breeze
foregrounds the entire movie. It is an obvious symbol for Forrest and the way he just casually makes
his way through the worst of times

Spartacus Corruption
Spartacus takes place during the first century BC, in the ancient roman empire. this empire has slid
into corruption and moral decay, extensively employing the work of slaves to carry out the lesser jobs
of society. these slaves are often mistreated, abused, exploited, and worked until death, as shown in
the opening scene where Spartacus s friend dies from work exhaustion. This opening scene takes place
in a Roman salt mine in the province of Libya, where a large group of slaves toil with pick and axe to
extract the precious mineral from the ground, and Roman soldiers guard, and abuse the slaves. the
commentary tells us of the hopelessness of the soldiers situation, and that the only freedom they can
hope of achieving is death. Spartacus ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
they complete greulling daily fitness rutines, as well as mock fights. while there he befriends a number
of the other slaves, foremost being Crixus, who goes on to become one of Spartacus s generals He and
is shown to be a man distiguished in his ability to relate to others, and his leadership skills. He also
attempts to make friends with an Ethiopian slave by the name of Draba, however Draba refuses, citing
how gladiators do make friends, as the y may be required to kill one another in the arena. During this
time the gladiators are kept in poor conditions, more akin to a prisoners life than an athletes, however
some relief is given in the form of occasionally being allowed to sleep with a number of slave women.
One such women is Varinia who meets Spartacus one night, and instead of the performing the regular
sexual acts with one another, they form a friendship, which evolves into a bond born of love over the
course of their time at the school. When taunted by Batiatus over His situation with Varinia, Spartacus
shouts I m not an animal at him. Varinia, present at the time, quietly says neither am I . This exchange
of dialogue serves to show that the slaves, as a rule, considered themselves to be human beings,
entitles=d to the rights in which they had been deprived as

This shortage is portrayed by statistics shown on the NHS organ donation page, where approximately 10,000 people are on the waiting list for a solid organ transplant and approximately 1,000 people die annually whilst waiting for an organ transplant and in 2013, a record 4,655 patients received a solid organ transplant (National Health Service, 2014). Furthermore, it is important to observe the fact that the organ donor deficit is growing, even factoring in the 50 percent increase in live donations since 2008. This deficit can be attributed to the rate of increase in donated organs falling short of the greater increase in transplant requiring patients. This can be further illustrated statistically where the number of people requiring organs has increased from approximately 8,700 to approximately 10,000 between 2005 and 2013 (National Health Service, 2014). There are a myriad of contributing factors that can be held responsible for the rise in required organs, including the prevalence of diseases inflicted through lifestyle choices i.e. obesity and smoking, as well as improved medical science resulting in an aging population. Additionally, there are ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This idea allows, and even encourages, humans to view the world through a very anthropological lens and assume that, because we are the dominant and most important species, nature works in human terms and is the domain of man. The idea of creationism is very anthropocentric itself. In the Hebrew Bible, man was created before all other animals and designed in God s image. He was given domain over nature by God as well. This idea of human supremacy and exceptionalism has persisted into modernity, but the advent of Darwin s evolutionary theory altered human s perception of themselves and the natural world. The typical belief in human dominance was shaken through Darwin s idea of natural selection and evolution which posited that humans, just as all other species descended from some one prototype (484). The descendants of this one prototype evolved based on natural selection. Evolution led to the creation of all organisms, living and extinct, including humans. The theory of evolution challenged the ideas of human exceptionalism and anthropocentrism by including humans in the same category as all other organisms, organisms that we as humans feel superior to. Juveniles have different trial proceedings and rights than adult offenders because juveniles are minors and are still considered their parent s or the state s responsibility. Minors are not seen as able to make important decisions regarding anything, like medical care, so it is logical that they are treated differently from the adults in the criminal justice system, from arrest to punishment. Mrs. Ceressa Haney, who is a Senior Probation and Pretrial Officer in Leon County says that working with juveniles isn t all that different than working with the adults. Looking from the outside, it seems like being a probation officer would be one of the hardest positions when dealing with any criminal, from juvenile to adult, because they are likely to give you a difficult time. In reality, juvenile courts have not always been around. In the past someone as young as eight years old could be prosecuted as an adult. For, it is frequently observed by proponents of humanitarian intervention that the heinous types of crimes which are often claimed to warrant humanitarian intervention are almost exclusively caused by or sanctioned by the oppressed people s own state. The list of acts which are frequently claimed to warrant humanitarian intervention usually includes mass enslavement, genocide, large scale massacre (whether genocidal in intent or not), mass expulsion, and so on. These types of crimes are almost unthinkable without the state s active or passive involvement, and this fact explains Walzer s ominous warning that people s own states represent the greatest danger in the world today. At the same time, however, much of the work on humanitarian intervention is thoroughly permeated by the quixotic assumption that intervening states themselves do not represent a significant danger to their own subjects. Instead, intervening states are conceived as somehow different from other states, they are legitimate, to use the familiar term. Without this assumption that intervening states are legitimate, (and, hence, represent no serious danger to their own subjects), the debate surrounding humanitarian intervention would be considerably altered. The concentration of the drinks that one ingest can have a slight effect on the peak alcohol concentration due to the differences in absorption rate of different concentrations of alcohol. Below 10% the concentration gradient in the gastrointestinal tract is low and slows absorption and the added volumes of liquid involved slow gastric emptying. On the other hand concentrations higher than 30% tend to irritate the mucous membranes of the gastrointestinal tract and the pyloric sphincter, causing increased secretion of mucous and delayed gastric emptying. Food Food taken along with alcohol results in a lower, delayed blood alcohol concentration peak (the point of greatest intoxication). There are two major factors involved in this phenomenon. First, because alcohol is absorbed most efficiently in the small intestine, the ingestion of food can slow down the absorption of alcohol into one s system. Like Dickinson s poems there is a recognition of not only the beauty and majesty that is in nature but also the danger that lurks in the unknown. Lawrence s Snake , like Dickinson s poems, utilizes personification, not only to connect humankind to nature, but also to elevate the serpent to an almost human level. I will focus on the poem Snake by D.H Lawrence and explore the ways the speaker in the poem uses this personification, sound devices, allusion, language and even structure to convey the speakers reverence and fear of nature, more specifically the snake or subject in the natural realm. As Snake begins we are introduced to the speaker encountering this element of the wild, the snake. Early in the poem, the language utilizes the use of sound devices that not only immerse the reader in the scenario, but also the speaker at the level of the snake. • 25. Comparing Ludwig Beethoven And Beethoven s Appassionata... Both Ludwig Beethoven s Appassionata piano sonata and Franz Liszt s B minor sonata are recognized as some of the best compositions of the nineteenth century. The complexity and creativity of these pieces are astonishing. Considering both pieces are sonatas they have some similar aspects, but they are also very different which can be credited to the brilliant minds who composed them. These pieces are both masterpieces of their time which is what has made them stand out amongst the many songs composed during the nineteenth century. In this paper I will touch on the significant attributes of these pieces and compare their similarities and differences. The first piece I will introduce is Appassionata by Ludwig Van Beethoven. Appassionata was composed during a time of many changes in both Beethoven s life and the musical world around him. By 1800 Beethoven s hearing had deteriorated so much that he was almost completely deaf. Although this was not something easy to cope with, Beethoven did not let this obstacle hinder his career. In fact, in many aspects his works flourished, and a new wave of creativity sparked in his career. Beethoven was not the first to compose a multimovement piece for the piano, but he was the first to stray from the former expectations of piano sonatas. Beethoven s new sonatas were longer than most and incorporated dramatic elements. With just one instrument Beethoven was able to convey so much power and emotion, something that no one at the time ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 26. The Main Collective Theory Of Functionalist Theories Essay The main collective theme in functionalist theories is the ability to look at society as a whole, rather than making judgements on purely an individual s actions and the motives behind them. In continuation, firm believers of the ideology that everything in society has a purpose and a designated role in order for the collective society, to work cohesively and function. The explanation for this comes from Durkheim, a sociologist who placed importance in consensus to achieve the need for social order. These concepts can be defined as people within a society, who have a tendency to be selfish, but by having various institutions within society, they are able to obtain social order pass on norms, values and morals. Crime can be functional when the rates are low, but dysfunctional to society when the rates are too high. Furthermore he believed that crime was inevitable in society, because crime and deviance is the product of a lack of attachment to the prevailing values that were shared among a collective society. Durkheim widely argued that people were all individuals with different experiences, so consequently not everyone will inevitably share the same values. Without these shared norms and values being passed on the prospect of social order cannot be obtained as there will not be a collective conformity towards them and which is therefore enforced by various institutions and structures. For example, if a child comes from a working class family or one which does not follow the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In schools during the 1930 s, the education system failed to present authentic African American History in schools and African Americans were taught that their history meant nothing because most history books gave little or no space to the black man s presence in America. Majority of the educator were from Northern and Western institution and had no concerns of a Negro, they directed their attention to the majority, the whites. The educators taught the blacks that they were inferior and would be nothing more than what the oppressor wanted them to be. They were shorted out of genuine education, were taught less than whites, when in actuality they should be taught more than the white. The oppressor feared that if the Negro received an adequate education that they would strive for greater. • 30. Gentrification And Its Oppressed Residents Essay The U.S. Gentrification and its Oppressed Residents For the past two decades, gentrification has become a widely known phenomenon in the U.S. as more wealthy cohorts of population move to quiet and cheap suburban areas instead of bearing the busy and costly lives in a big city. Changes brought by the influx of affluent newcomers in the suburban areas are often praised for fostering urban renewal as well as animating the areas local economy. However, the impacts of gentrification cause several types of new problems which now afflict long time, low income residents in gentrifying neighborhoods. With the soaring prices of the real estate market, landlords harassment against low income tenants, and rising living expenses, gentrification further augments the inequality and conflicts between the poor and rich inhabitants. Historically, many of the suburban towns and neighborhoods around the major U.S. cities served as homes to poor and minority residents, offering cheaper living spaces due to the marginalized and inconvenient geographical locations with several negative reputations. Yet, given the big cities overcrowded environment and expensive living cost, these suburban areas are now popular destinations for people who seek for a less crowded and affordable neighborhood to dwell. According to statistics by Kolko (2016), in 2015, the population of overall U.S. suburban neighborhoods increased by 159 million people, while only the total of less than 80 million ... • 31. Forrest Gump Is The Portrayal Of A Man That Has Been... Introduction Life is like a box of chocolates, you never know what you re gonna get. Forrest Gump is the portrayal of a man that has been alienated from society, not because he is unintelligent or dimwitted, but rather because he is not restricted by the conventional ideals, which are embedded, within his culture; thus, Forrest challenges the conformities and principals that most people are accustomed to. The contrast that Robert Zemeckis, director of the film, is attempting to convey through the character of Forrest Gump is how most people are too smart for there own good; and thus, try to escape the realities and actualities of life. While other characters in the story are suppressed by society s conflicts, Forrest remains blinded to all; hence, he is able to live in the moment, rather than evading what is real. Forrest s unique selflessness and compelled nature to do what is right, as opposed to what is easy, are what our society incorrectly labels stupidity or ignorance. Zemeckis is obviously pointing out that an individual has no control over his or her own destiny and in order to live a noble life, must accept life as it is. I think it is very appropriate that Zemeckis begins his movie with the scene in which he does. Starting with Forrest s worn out and dirty shoes with a camera shot of a feather floating on the breeze foregrounds the entire movie. It is an obvious symbol for Forrest and the way he just casually makes his way through the worst of times ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This opening scene takes place in a Roman salt mine in the province of Libya, where a large group of slaves toil with pick and axe to extract the precious mineral from the ground, and Roman soldiers guard, and abuse the slaves. the commentary tells us of the hopelessness of the soldiers situation, and that the only freedom they can hope of achieving is death. He also attempts to make friends with an Ethiopian slave by the name of Draba, however Draba refuses, citing how gladiators do make friends, as the y may be required to kill one another in the arena. During this time the gladiators are kept in poor conditions, more akin to a prisoners life than an athletes, however some relief is given in the form of occasionally being allowed to sleep with a number of slave women. One such women is Varinia who meets Spartacus one night, and instead of the performing the regular sexual acts with one another, they form a friendship, which evolves into a bond born of love over the course of their time at the school. When taunted by Batiatus over His situation with Varinia, Spartacus shouts I m not an animal at him. Varinia, present at the time, quietly says neither am I .
