Media And Social Media
According to dictionary.com, the word media is defined as the means of communication, as radio
and television, newspapers, magazines, and the Internet, that reach or influence people widely. By
definition, the media is constantly swarming the public audience day in and day out while never
coming to a halt. National and global coverage from the mediais essential for all people who desire
staying up to date with the current events that are occurring all over the world. Although there are
many different forms of media, while reflecting over a three day period of how I personally use
media, I have come to realize many things. Most of my observations will be discussed throughout
this essay.
First of all, I can fully admit that I am very guilty of being considered an addicted media user.
Before this assignment, I wasn t consciously aware of how often I check my phone for social
media posts or my laptop for online news articles. The results were actually alarming; I ve come
to believe that I am on my phone far too often throughout the day. The media outlets that I use the
most often is Snapchat, Instagram, Facebook, Buzzfeed, DailyMail and television s nightly news
programs such as News 4 New York or NBC Nightly Newswith Lester Holt. In our modern day
society, I believe the platforms on social media have become the most commonly used source for
media news and entertainment. Aside from just social media, I think the second most used form of
media today would be the televised

Impact Of John Stuart Mill On Income Inequality
ECON1401 Written Assignment 1 John Stuart Mill and Income Inequality
Many great economic thinkers throughout history has offered various differing yet interrelated
views and ideas that may prove useful to the analysis of current issues in modern economics. A
persistent issue in the modern economy is income inequality whereby the distribution of income
among the population is unequal. This means that the gap between the rich and the poor increases
over time if the issue is not appropriately addressed. In exploring the issue of income inequality in
Australia, this essay aims to analyse the issue from the perspective of a selected economic thinker
namely John Stuart Mill by: (1) providing a summary of Mill s key ideas and theories, including the
different forces that may have shaped his thinking; (2) applying Mill s conceptual framework to the
income inequality problem; and (3) offer solutions he might have suggested to address this problem,
including policies that may be adopted and institutions that may be constructed in the Australian
context.
In order to consider the problem of income inequality from Mill s perspective, it is of imperative
importance to first grasp an understanding of what factors contributed to the development of his key
ideas. Known as one of the most influential figures in classical economics, Mill is more commonly
described as a philosopher and socialist than an economist due to his obstinate strive for progressive
social reform throughout his

Cultural Competency For A Nursing
Cultural competency is extremely indispensable in nursing practice so that nurses can provide
optimal care for patients from diverse cultural backgrounds. Therefore, insufficient knowledge and
skills of cultural competency has continued to increase racial and ethnic inequalities in healthcare
services especially for minority groups (Dunagan et al. 2013; Long, 2012). As Nurses interact with
clients they provide care, education and advocacy at any point in need. Cultural awareness
provides the bases for nurses to develop of interest to continue and advance in knowledge and skills
to deliver cultural competent care (Calvillo, 2009). To complete the critical analysis of the

RESULTS The studies carefully chosen for the review consist of articles that employed multiple
research methods. The combination of different research methods was to improve the strategies to
enhance data collection and extraction (Whittemore Knaffle, 2005). The strategy specifically
enhances the rigour of the process of the critical analysis to address current of knowledge on
enhancing the cultural competency of new graduates (Whittemore Knaffle, 2005). DATA
REDUCTION Of the seven studies included in the review, there were two that employed
qualitative methods (Hart Mareno, 2014; Kokko, 2014). The chosen data collection methods were
found to be suitable to the designs of each study. Chircop et al., (2013) used a quantitative
research design which was deemed acceptable for obtaining measurable data regarding student
competence and knowledge acquisition. While the two mixed method designs (Alpers, Hanssen,
2014; Dunagan et al., 2013) were considered effective for exploration of self assessment for to
enhance cultural competency. Two other studies used quasi experimental research methods
(Mareno and Hart, 2014; Noble et al., 2014). The summary to the selection process are illustrated
in Appendix II. DATA DISPLAY To describe the pattern and relationships with in the primary data

Portrayal Of Women In The Iliad
Aristotle, in Politics says, The courage of a man is shown in commanding, of a woman in
obeying. 1 The statement more or less sums up how the Greek viewed their women. Not only
were they subjugated to men, but also, were in a position comparable to slaves. Their prime duty
lay in obeying there masters, which for women were the men or kurios i.e. guardian. Having said
that, let us look at the portrayal of women in the Greek literary sphere. In Homer s The Iliad,
Helen of Troy, the face that launched a thousand ships is shown to be the prime bone of contention
between the Greek and the Trojans. She is invested with the power to have made a thousand ships
set sail to Troy to bring her back, which is immediately punctured with the fact that... Show more

The statement itself is complex in the context of the play. If we believe that his reason for
marriage is ensuring a secure future of his line which can be true because he himself was of a
royal household it is ironical that for royal progeny he betrays Medea but criticizes the entire female
sex for begetting children. Royal or not, Jason is an exile in Corinth. To beable to pave way into the
mainstream he chooses marriage into the royal household. His children withthe princess would
be the kin to the heir apparent and in case the king s son s line would be extinguished at some
point of time, it would be Jason s that would inherit the kingdom. He confesses to Medea of
wishing to have children with the princess around line 565, and barely 10 lines later has he
criticized the very instrument of his ticket to royalty. Thus, this statement is paradoxical in itself.
There is no point delving into the mind of Jason for here he is not a person but a character who
vocalizes what the playwright wants him to say. So, we need to understand Euripides intention of
this statement. Euripides has portrayed Medea as a character who refuses to fit into the mould
Athens has created for its women. Medea, the sorceress can unhinge the King s peace of

The Role Of Women And Their Effect On The War
Nevertheless, another important element in The Iliad is the role of women and their effect on the
war and their relationship with other characters. Scholar Mary R. Lefkowitz, argues that women
had some independence and were under the supervisions of man. The scholar writes:
In the Homeric epics women seem to have little independence; they were always under the
guardianship of a man, whether a husband, father, or even a son. Wives must live in their husband
s cities; women like Chryseis or Briseis, who have been captured in raids, become slaves and are
completely subject to their masters. (Lefkowitz 503).
I concur with the writer that women do not have any force and are compelled of by man. As the
author noted about Chryseis been captured and becoming into a slave. This is exhibited in The Iliad
when Chrysesis father comes to King Agamemnon to recover his little girl back in the wake of
being given as a war prize to King Agamemnon. In the wake of bribing the Achenes to give back
his girl, King Agamemnon reacts by saying he will not give back his little girl. This is established
in Book One as Chyrses, Chryseis father drew nearer King Agamemnon,
Yes, Chyrses approached the Achaean s fast ships to win his daughter back, bringing a priceless
ransom...Just set my daughter free, my dear one...
Here, accept these gifts, this ransom...And all the Achaean s cried out their assent: Respect the
priest, accept the shining ransom! But it brought no joy in the heart of Agamemnon. The king

Darkness At Noon Analysis
The novel, Darkness at Noon, clearly referenced Stalin s purges that occurred during the late
1930s. The story follows an old Bolshevik Rubashov as he experienced the Great Purge and
subsequent show trial. Through a theme of old vs. new and the overarching fear and brutality of
the time period, Darkness at Noon contributes to a further understanding of the 30s in the Soviet
Union. Throughout the novel, the contrast between the old and the new held an important position
in the overall story. By underlining this idea, Koestler illustrated the importance of the old and new
communists during the Great Purges. The characters of Wassilij, Vera Wassiljovna, Ivanov, and
Gletkin showed these contrasting groups. In Soviet politics, the two interrogators illustrated the
juxtaposition between old and new. The first interrogator Ivanov represented the old guard while
his successor Gletkin characterized the new guard. Ivanov was an old Bolshevik he once had a
picture of the old party on the wall. A former friend of Rubashov, the two attended university
together and fought in the civil war. Despite the circumstances, Ivanov was rather friendly with
Rubashov and confessed that he did not want Rubashov to be shot (82). After talking for a while,
Rubashov stated,
I am curious to know, he said aloud, what scheme you have for my salvation. The way in which
you have examined me up till now seems to have exactly the opposite aim. Ivanov s smile became
broad and beaming. You old fool, he

From the Broadbeach study, the investigation of offshore...
From the Broadbeach study, the investigation of offshore wave conditions erosion rates and
sandbar morphodynamics, show that Broadbeach experienced some unusual experience during
the study period. Given that the wave conditions on the Gold Coast were considerably less
energetic, results suggest that Broadbeach s beach is significantly vulnerable and is more easily
eroded than other beaches reported. Time series of offshore wave conditions combined with the
evolution of the beach volume also suggests that the studied beach is more exposed to high
erosion rates in the presences of NE to E swell. This trend is in agreement with visual observation
all along the Gold Coast. However, the second and third storm wave events are estimated to be of...

During the first and second extreme events mentioned in the study, the 150m wide Coolangatta
Beach experienced the most intense erosion because waves did not reach the vegetated dune. The
beach then recovered markedly, which can be explained by the presence of the sand bypassing
system and sheltering from he SE high waves (Castelle et al., 2007).
The evolution of measured beach volumes over the study period strongly suggests that the Gold
Coast beaches are not able to withstand a powerful succession of extreme vents. The first high
wave event strongly weakened the beaches, which did not recover before the second high wave
event of a magnitude not unusual along the Gold Coast. However, in these two cases, the storms
resulted in surprisingly high erosion rates. Data from a more in depth investigation of Broadbeach,
using video imagery, suggest that outer bar decay, resulting in a lack of protection of the sub aerial
beach, may explain this high erosion.
The present results show that high energy easterly swells have a considerable destructive power on
both northern and southern Gold Coast beaches. Even though no tropical cyclone directly crossed
the Gold Coast, which would have resulted in much higher energy waves and a more severe storm
surge, the erosion measured is the most substantial of the past 30 years. The Gold Coast beaches
investigated lost between 34 and 52m3/m, which, in terms of beach nourishment, is an extremely
large amount of sand. This suggests hat

Hitler s Effect On The German People And Nazi Rule
Nazi Germany Essay INTRODUCTION discuss the question and what you are going to talk about
in your essay
From 1933 1938 life in Germany was worse for people because of the way that Hitler abused the
power he had been given. Not only did he abuse the power but the people of Germany themselves.
At the same time, there were also some positives in the way that Hitler ran things. He completely
abolished unemployment rates, and gave the German people a sense of pride again. The key
aspects of Adolf Hitler s rule on Germany when he came into power were the separation of certain
people such as communists, Jews and disable or handicapped people from the pure Germans.
Hitler s rule had several effects in the German people and their country. Hitler was very aware of
things and therefore he knew what the people wanted and the things he needed to promise to them
in order to be selected for the position of chancellor. This caused both positive and negative effects
on the German people and Hitler s Nazi rule. The Weimar Republicknow as the makeshift
democracy was set up as an emergency solution to assist with the diminishing of the post war
effects on the Germany society and population. The Government was unstable due to it having to
face the harshest social, economic and political issues of Germany. The reason why the Weimar
Republic was out ruled was because they gave too much power to the states and the army.

Roe v. Wade and Planned Parenthood v. Casey Essay
In Roe v. Wade, in 1973, the Supreme Court held a case that a pregnant woman has the full privacy
right to have an abortion. The right to abortion is not guaranteed and must be stable against the
State s countervailing benefits in keeping the health of the woman and in protecting the life of the
unborn child. The State s belief in protecting the health of the woman becomes definite, therefore
greatly enough to support state ruling of abortion under the strict scrutiny standard of judicial

to the mother carrying the child to term. The State s concern in protecting the life of the unborn

of independent life. Because neither interest is irresistible before the second trimester, the State
may not regulate abortion in the first trimester either to reserve the woman s health or to protect the
life of the unborn child. After the first trimester the State may control the act of an abortion, but
only for the purpose of protecting the woman s health, not for the purpose of protecting the life of

Dear Professor Csikszentmihalyi,
This letter is talking about what I learned from your book, my flow experiences and what are
elements of flow in my opinion. But before that I would like to share a old Chinese fairy tale
with you. 1800 years ago in Jin dynasty of China, there was a farmer who s name is Wangzhi.
One day he went out to cut firewood in hills, he saw there are an old man and a child playing the
GO (a Chinese game) in pavilion. So he left his axe on a stump and watched them playing. He
was so focus on the game that he totally forgot the time. After a long time, the child told him that
as it is so late you had better go home. Then Wangzhi pick up his axe and start to go home. He
was so surprised that his axe handle was rotted and mold. When he backed home his neighbor
told him he had already went out more than 10 years. Of cause fairy tales are not always true
story and also may sound like an exaggeration. But in this fairy tale we can know that Chinese
people realize that people have flow experience hundreds years ago.
In this semester we have been discussing about Optimal Experience and what is Flow and how to
achieve it in class. I learned that you named the psychological concept of flow, a highly focused
mental state. In your seminal work, Flow: The Psychology of Optimal Experience, you outline

The Aztecs, the people of the sun, people of reason and the people of knowledge. The Aztecs

earth as a producer of life. The universe was sacred, it was to be preserved, treated and used as a
source of life because for the Aztecs the sun was life, they are the people of the sun. Conquering
was very important to the Aztecs; they were warriors, strong ones who trained their men at a

The Tlaxcaltecs were a very important tool for the Spaniards, giving them the proper navigation and
short paths to get to Tenochtitlan along with food and shelter. The Spanish did carried many
advantages over the Aztecs throughout their conquest; the use of cannons and artillery, an ally who
new the Aztec ways very well, and the simple fact that the Aztecs at first thought the Spaniards
were `gods . Would you really want to fight your God and not be intimidated? The use of
cannons and gunfire was foreign to the Aztecs; they fought with stones, bows and arrows and had
never before seen or heard of such a weapon. Then the captain gave orders, and the messengers
were chained by the feet and by the neck. When this had been done the great cannon was fired off.
The messengers lost their senses and fainted away (26).

Alan Duff s novel Once Were Warriors was published in 1990 and adapted to a film by director
Lee Tamahori in 1994. The controversial story about a Maori family made Duff a best selling
author and was greatly discussed after its publication (Martens 22f). The Maori family from
whose members points of view the story is told, is called Heke. Living in Pine Block, a fictional
ghetto like neighbourhood, the family s greatest concerns are unemployment, the parents
alcoholism, the children s rebellious behaviour, and the father s violence. Their situation seems
hopeless: Jake, the father, loses his job, drinks too much and repeatedly thrashes his wife Beth,

Readers expect the film to be faithful to its source material in ways that a filmic adaptation
simply cannot be faithful to a literary work, because [t]he demand for fidelity ignores the actual
process of making films, the important differences in modes of production (16). Stam and
Raengo go even further by claiming [a] filmic adaptation is automatically different and original
due to the change of medium (17). Another reason why adaptations are infidel to their source
material, apart from media characteristics, is money: While a novelist s choices are relatively
unconstrained by considerations of budget [...] films are from the outset immersed in technology
and commerce (16). A novelist only has to take his or her time to sit down and write a literary
work and find a publishing house to publish it, and therefore does not have to spend large amounts
of money. Yet, for a film to be made, numerous people are involved, for instance a screenwriter, a
director, cinematographers, and actors. Thus, Stam and Raengo assert that while mostly only one
individual works on a novel, numerous people are involved in creating a film (17). This also results
in many different opinions on setting, plot, characters, themes, lightning and so forth, which then

Happiness By Robert Nozick
Noora Hosheshi
Introduction
In The Examined Life, philosopher Robert Nozick lists three conceptions of happiness, which
he calls the three forms of happiness (Nozick, p. 108). The third form of happiness is defined
satisfaction with life as a whole being able to look back on one s life and be satisfied with what one
has done/experienced (Nozick, p. 110). He argues it is easy to understand why people long for this
type of happiness, as it is pleasurable to experience in itself. This is, if evaluation of one s past
experiences are correct, and said experiences are valuable to the individual. By placing emphasis
on the value of meaningful experience in life, Nozick s argument implies one should avoid a vapid
existence. At the same time, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

BenQ and Siemens come from two different backgrounds and cultures. BenQ Company from

Vince Lombardi s Life And Accomplishments
The difference between a successful person and others is not a lack of strength, not a lack of
knowledge, but rather a lack of will (Lincoln Library 85). This was one of many quotes Vince
Lombardi has spoken throughout his professional life. Vince was born on June 11, 1913 in
Brooklyn New York. At the start of his football fame, he played fullback at St. Francis Prep High
School. After high school, he went to Fordham University in Bronx, New York. At Fordham he
was part of the most feared offensive line called the Seven Blocks of Granite (Lincoln Library
84). He then moved to assistant coach at St. Cecilia High School in New Jersey. After this,
Lombardi coached his first NFL team, the New York Giants. Although he was not the head
coach, his influence as the offensive coach had a significant impact on the team. He provided
insight of trades to improve the areas of the defense. A good defense will help the club s morale
(Lincoln Library 84 85). In the year of 1959 the Green Bay Packersin Wisconsin needed a head
coach desperately. This was where Lombardi was most famous. when he first got to the Packers, he

championship the year after. Lombardi showed so much dedication to the team that the team s
guard Fuzzy Thurston joked, Thank the Lord, Vince didn t lead the Italian Army in World War

Types of Car Brake System Essay
HISTORY AND BACKGROUND
In a little over hundred years since automobile took hold of most people s imagination,
technologies design to make acceleration faster and reaching higher speeds have evolved. Despite
charges, turbo charges, twin turbo charges or NOX, there are limits, which cannot be greater by
land based vehicle in terms of speed. Not the same can be said about the rather unseen parts of the
automotive evolution. The only limitation to them is in connection with the human body s ability
to withstand rapid decelerations. It would be a lot easier to stop a car then to make it go faster
otherwise. Whether they come in form of drum brakes or as disk, the brakes have been the
horsepower s companions throughout decades, each pulling ... Show more content on

The drum break had a main problem and that is that the heat within is not efficiently disbursed.
Since the drum prevents wind from drawing it away. The heat produced inside the drum does not
easily escape. The disk brake however was open to the wind, allowing the heat to be easily carried
away, increasing the efficiency of the break.
The development and use of the disk brakes was fist in England in the 1980 s. Frederick William
Lanchaster was the first guy that patented the first ever caliper type disk brake in his
Birmingham factory in 1902 and it was used successfully on his Lanchaster cars. He struggled to
keep up the maintenance of a quality brake because of the limited choice of metals in the period
of time. Causing him to use copper as the braking medium acting on the disk. However, due to
the bad road conditions, it didn t allow copper to last very long because copper can wear out easily,
making the disk brake system non viable.
Crosley Hot Shot in the 1950 is often given the credit for first use of the U.S production of disk
brake. The Chrystal Crown Imperial had them first used actually, as a standard equipment at the
beginning of the model year in 1942. Crosley disk was a good year development that was
originally designed for use on aircrafts; it was the caliper type with ventilated rotor. Regions that
required the use of salt like winter roads caused sticking and corrosion, leading to enormous
reliability problems due to the lack of research.

Labor Relation In The Workplace

The age of technology has changed communication in both our personal and professional lives

Medical Laser Equipment
INTRODUCTION
This Paper analyzes the Case 16: Medical Laser Equipment. Some of the given facts are as follows:
Order is set to every Monday which means an annual total of 50 orders No. of Periods= 250 Days
Annual Demand = 166 Units Average Inventory= 5 Units Order Cost = $95 Stock out Cost= $250
Holding Cost = 50% * $1,000 = $500 Capital Cost = 10% Handling Cost= 15%Obsolescence= 5%
Storage Cost= 20%
We started the case analysis by the normality test for the current data to check if the data is
normally distributed or not. Our objective is to calculate the current Total Cost and then come up
with a better solution to lower the cost.
As a result, we have developed two scenarios, both of them reveled ... Show more content on

of Orders
( I ) М… = Average Inventory
DDLT = Demand During Lead Time
SS = Safety Stock
ROP = Re Order Point
CURRENT SITUATION
In the current situation, the order is set to every Monday which means a total number of 50
orders for the whole period, and the average Inventory calculated from the given data is 5 units.
Therefore, total cost of the current situation calculation will be as follows: q=50 Orders C_P=$95
C_H=$500 ( I ) М…=5 Units
гЂ– в‡’ TC=(CгЂ—_P*q)+(( I ) М…* C_H)=(95*50)+(5*500) =4,750+2,500 =$7,250
PROPOSED MODELS
In line with our objective, we proposed two different models both resulted in reducing the total
cost. Proposed scenarios are: Scenario I:Using Economic Order Quantity Concept Scenario II:Using
McLaren s Order Moment Concept
Below are the details of each scenario.
SCENARIO I: ECONOMIC ORDER QUANTITY EOQ
EOQ as described everywhere is the order quantity that minimizes total inventory holding costs
and ordering costs. It is one of the oldest classical production scheduling models . This model uses
the following assumptions: The ordering cost is constant which is in our case is $95. The rate of
demand is known and normally distributed which have been proved by the normality test presented
above. The lead time

Analysis Of John Milton s Paradise Lost Essay
Eve s story arc in Paradise Lost, by John Milton, is a bildungsroman, the German word for a
novel of education. Eve develops through the five stages of a typical bildungsroman character, as
demonstrated by several different works from the genre. It will be useful to discuss several
different bildungsromans from different eras and regions to fully determine the necessary
characteristics of a bildungsroman, like The Odyssey, To Kill a Mockingbird, David Copperfield,
Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, and The Catcher in the Rye. One of the most well known
bildungsromans and one of the most applicable to Eve s development is To Kill a Mockingbird.
Scout Finch goes through a process comparable to Eve s, and will be especially useful in assessing
Eve s maturation since they are both heroines. It is worth noting that although Eve is not
necessarily the protagonist and certainly not the sole focus of Paradise Lost, the work may still be a
bildungsroman in the same way that The Odyssey is Telemachus bildungsroman despite the work
not being centered around him.
A bildungsroman is very similar to the classic coming of age story, but the former tends to
investigate the moral growth of the protagonist more than the latter. According to the Encyclopedia
Brittanica, a bildungsroman deals with the maturation process, with how and why the protagonist
develops as he does, both morally and psychologically. The critical aspects of a bildungsroman are,
as evidenced by examples of the genre:

With this information we provided teaching using the teaching plan attached in appendix A. The
teaching plan can be summarized in three main points: 1)Parents need to understand the
importance of rehydrating with an oral rehydration solution (ORS) instead of water alone.
2)Child should be given approximately 6 ounces of ORS for each loose stool or vomiting
episode. This ORS should be administered in teaspoons at a slow steady rate if the child is
refusing to drink normally, or if vomiting occurs after drinking. 3)Normal age appropriate diet
should be offered to the infant, no special considerations are required. Since the infant is
currently mildly dehydrated we need to provide 6 ounces of ORS to restore normal hydration in
addition to 6 ounces for each additional episode. Since the infant has been refusing to drink this
is the perfect opportunity for the mother and father to practice giving ORS using a teaspoon.
Family was instructed to provide a teaspoon full of ORS to their child as often as he would
accept it over a period of one to two hours until at least 6 ounces have been administered. They
were advised that the child may want more fluid as time goes on, so they can increase the rate as
tolerated. When an oral solution is administered by the caregiver in controlled amounts (one or two
teaspoons every one to two minutes, with gradual increases in amount as tolerated), the familiar
regimen of frequent small sips can deliver a volume

Stereotypes In The Criminal Justice System
The Criminal Justice System as a whole is always under constant scrutiny, and nearly everyone
has a different perspective regarding the subject. In 1976, a student studying criminal justice
offered his own analysis of the system. He viewed said system as one that was unfair, harsh, and
biased and that it should no longer be viewed as a Criminal Justicesystem, but instead a Criminal
Processing System. I have sat and considered this statement for much time now, and I can only
interpret it in one way. His view of the system is that criminals are treated unfairly and simply put
through the judicial system similarly to the way a product is created on an assembly line. By
definition, the Criminal Justice System is the system of law enforcement... Show more content on

A model describing the criminal justice system by Packer (1964) offers two separate ideas with
very different values based on which political party holds office. For people with conservative
views the crime control model is suggested. In this model, the main concern is to control and
reduce crime to a minimum, as well as keep it efficient. On the other hand, is the due process
model and is tied to liberal values. In this model, equality and due process are the main concern.
Both parties still view criminals similarly though and feel that criminals should be punished, one
is just more time consuming and accurate than the other. Nationally, our criminal justice budget
is over 200 billion dollars each year which is distributed to all branches of the system
accordingly. Despite having what seems to be more than enough money to run a well
orchestrated justice system, it would never be fair to make the system tougher. The reason for this
is because in order to be tough on crime, it has to be the same for every level of crime. This would
mean that smaller crimes would be accompanied with harsher punishments. Harsher punishments
on all crime would lead to a sequence of events introduced by Stanley Cohen in 1972. First, a moral
panic would occur which would make citizens think that any little crime is punishable by prison
time. In

The purpose of its creation was pretty straight forward, that is, to prevent failures in banking
(Meltzer Allan, 2010). During the time of its inception, the United States had gone through a
vicious banking crisis in 1907. The crisis gained importance as it was observed how
Knickerbockers Trust failed to receive support from its peers, even after voluntarily seeking for
it. It ultimately faced collapse due to failure in receiving support. This also had a significant
influence on the psychology of the public as the peers of Knickerbockers apart from not recuing
it, also cancelled payments to each other. The New York Stock Exchange collapsed by fifty per
cent until liquidity was injected by the initiatives of financier J.P. Morgan which then relieved the
situation to some extent. The legislators then in response vehemently advocated putting in place a
central banking system, which would be able to provide liquidity in the case of a wholesale
downfall. It can be said with hindsight that the machinery back then used to be very sophisticated.
The Wall Street Journal also published a comprehensive fourteen part series which emphasized on
the need for a central banking system. The idea received further endorsements from the public
groups and trade organizations. Hence the Federal Reserve was born. It was meant to be a
politically autonomous institution that would provide stability to the financial system, protect the

An Analysis Of Judie Randall Put Her Daughter, Michele...
Judie Randall put her daughter, Michele Song, up for adoption in hopes of giving her a better life
with another family. Michele Song s files were sealed by the law, and at the age of 31, after 13
years of petitioning, a social worker was allowed to give non identifying information about her birth
motherand father. Eventually the social worker allowed Song to write a letter in the hopes she
could get it to her. Michele Song waited for her daughters birth to contact her birth mother in the
hopes of meeting her (Carroll 355). This essay was successful because of her style, her use of
figurative language, and her content. This letter was clearly an impulsive one. In fact, she did
not include a salutation. One can only assume it was because she had no idea how her birth
mother, Judie Randall, would react when she saw the letter or if she even wanted to speak to
her. Song was most likely very nervous about Randall s reaction and didn t want to scare her
away or to feel awful about giving her up. It was clear through Songs diction that all she knew
when she started was that she wanted to meet her birth mother. Song had no idea what she was
trying to say in fear of losing the chance of speaking to her birth mother and you can tell because of
the dramatic difference between the first and the last paragraph. The first paragraph was full of
rhetorical questions and scatter brained explanations for the letter, which made her seem nervous.

Defining my project came as a challenge to me. I originally wanted to choose something that

up choosing commercial aviation and more specifically the selection process in which materials
are chosen for the wings used in the commercial aircraft. With the goal of becoming an aerospace
engineer, I felt this topic was something I could get involved with on higher level and it would

it. Working with my partner Brian was also a pleasurable experience. Although... Show more

Using various sources I was able to come up with many questions and answers about my topic.
Before actually looking into the materials used in the wings, I translated the requirements
similarly to Ashby s method. I wrote down an initial function for the wings and its constraints
and objective. Using this outline I started my research. Of course, with any engineering design
there were many steps before the actual design process. This is usually defining the actual
function. In the case of the aircraft wings the actual function is to provide lift for the aircraft and
contain an assortment of devices and other materials in the interior safely and efficiently.
Because many lives will be at stake if the wings fail, safety is one of the ultimate concerns.
During my research I looked up many of the potential conditions that aircraft wings go through.
To function, the wings have to deal with a variety of forces and loads. But, the main goal is
obviously not to have one successful flight and start over. The wings have to last many years,
with proper maintenance. Therefore the main objective for many engineers is to come up with a
design that can withstand an extensive amount of cycles, and also be cost effective. I looked up
the average life of an aircraft and it varied by manufacturer. It averaged around to be a 100,000
cycles before a commercial jet was retired. To reach this

Paul urges in 1 Corinthians 14:39 40 that speaking in tongues should not be forbidden, and be
done in order. Brand, Draper and England add in their commentary, There is no compelling
reason to believe that ecstatic utterance is the same thing as the Biblical gift of tongues. (1606).
There exists no restriction for personal prayer (1 Corinthians 14:18 19), however should not be
used in public places without an interpreter, as mentioned in 1 Corinthians 14:28. This would
compromise the edifying design for unbelievers. Much controversy has been raised over 1
Corinthians 13 and what is said to be valid . Those negating the validity of speaking in tongues
typically use 1 Corinthians 13:8 10 as the basis for their argument. However, the verse is
comparing eternal with temporal things. This is Paul s way of emphasizing peace in abiding
things (like faith, hope and love) versus division for the sake of the tongues controversy to the
church (Smith). Verse 10 also brings about the discussion of what Paul refers to as perfect . Even
though, those belonging to the Negative School argue that which is perfect is to be the full canon
of the Bible, there is nothing that suggests that the Holy Spirit will stop moving through this gift.

moon s sensual appeal balances its foreboding nature. The boy is enticed by the mystery of the

contradicts her true mission to lead him to his demise. Beating the drum of the plain (22) stresses
the intensity of the moment leading up to the point that within the forge the young man has closed
eyes (23).
The climax of the story has just occurred, as the child death has taken place. The Spanish belief
that the moon is a bad omen has remained true with the little boy s eyes closed, signifying his
death. The gypsies return and the diction used to describe them emphasizes their mystery and flow.
How the night bird sings (29) implies the bird is singing a song to mourn the death of the child. It

Stanley Hauerwas Christian Ethics Summary
The study of the ethical thinker, Stanley Hauerwas, was about Christian ethics. Christian ethics in
Hauerwas s eyes are more about forming narrative, and the reason why he sees it that way is
because of how ethics is following scripture of the Bible. Hauerwas explaining that the Christian
ethics are going to be more about people following into this study and relying on the Bible in order
to help them out of certain situations. Hauerwas explains that it is more about a narrative
community instead of being an ethical study, alongside with the Enlightenment Model which he
discusses he does not like as well. The Enlightenment model is explained as to being a rationality

As well, he explains that the true focus is to explain the Christian ethics is something that would
not be separated from the theology, and is defined in that alone as a story book. For results of
Wilkens looking over this study he found more of problems with Hauerwas s study. The results
showed that Hauerwas was positive about becoming a better person down the road. As for the
negative side of this study was that there was too much ambiguity about Christians, as well as the
lines between scripture and community is not clear, the community is never explained by
Hauerwas, and lastly, the Christian story is not a true story. The importance of this study of
Hauerwas is going to be because of the fact there are positive sides, and as well as negative sides
about different ethical studies. Wilkens explains this as being an important study because of this
being where our lives begin with studies like this. Ethic studies show us different ways of seeing
the world. Hauerwas s study on Christian ethics, has been something that is going to aimed at most
believers as well as he is going to show that Christians morality is more than following rules and
legalism. Hauerwas is more about the grounding ethics that are about the Scripture and the
traditions that come along with being a Christian. Other things that are going to be important for
this study is that of being able to show that there are positive things about the Christian ethics, and
the negative that most of the ethic does not explain for us. Hauerwas s is also going to show critics
about the Enlightenment model, and with that being of notion of rationality and focusing on just

How Does S. E. Hinton Use Slang In The Outsiders
S.E. Hinton, the author of the novel The Outsiders accurately portrays the 60 s culture within this
novel. This novel was published in 1967, which means Hinton may have used words, including
slang in The Outsiders . S.E. Hinton, wrote a great novel that describes the relationship between
the different gangs, and the relationship within the members of the gang. S.E. Hinton gives her
readers many hints about how she portrays the 60 s in The Outsiders . Hinton, as mentioned, uses
slang throughout the chapters such as fuzz which was referred to cops, in the 1960 s. ... the cops

Hinton does not accurately portray the culture of the 1960 s. Their reasoning could be that,
throughout the novel, with the descriptions, Hinton, never once described them as Hippies
which was more on the side of a style in the 60 s. But these gangs were more tuff lookin . Tuff is
their own word that the greasers use to describe themselves as good looking or tough . Another
reason why readers might agree with the non portrayal side, is because Pony only states the

actually took place in the culture of the 60 s. This would not be a strong opposing argument

The Importance Of Thrasymachus In Plato s Republic
The Importance of Thrasymachus in Plato s Republic
Dr. Malters s comments: This student does two things quite remarkable for an undergraduate
student. In his compact essay, not only does he display an in depth understanding of complex
perspectives on justice put forth by the protagonist Socrates, he deftly explains how Plato has
artfully made rude objections by a seemingly minor character early in the dialogue function as a
structuring device for nearly all the important ideas examined thereafter.
In Plato s Republic, the character Thrasymachus provides an intense yet short lived appearance in
the discussion of justice early in the story. Though he seems to almost completely withdraw from
the discussion for the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Though defeated on this point, he s not yet satisfied with Socrates argument, and sticks by one of
his previously stated views which held that injustice is more profitable than justice. However, he
shrinks back and seems no longer able to speak for himself after Socrates refuted his argument on
justice. Despite his withdrawal from the argument throughout the rest of the Republic, his early
ideas help lead Socrates farther on his search for justice through the construction of a hypothetical
just city. In describing the education of the guardians of this city, Socrates discusses the need for
a balance between gymnastics and poetry. He relates how too much gymnastics lead the spirited
part of someone to be overtightened and hard. He ll be museless and hate discussion explains
Socrates. This hardness and hate for discussion reminds us of the actions of Thrasymachus at the
beginning of the argument defining justice. Thrasymachus becomes an example of a badly tuned
soul that Socrates goes on to describe. On examining Thrasymachus idea that it pays to be
perfectly unjust, Socrates refutes this argument in Book 4 as he speaks of the souls three parts;
wisdom, spirit, and desire. The civil war between these three parts is shown to be the cause of
injustice, but before Socrates can correlate this with the regimes of certain

history. A son of Alois and Klara Hitler, Adolf Hitler had 5 siblings and only one survived past
childhood which was Paula Hitler. Hitler didn t get along with Alois (his dad) as he had a
terrible temper and often a generally atrocious attitude. Hitler s father, Alois often took out his
problems out on the kids, but his mother had no say as women didn t have much power then.
Hitler attended two schools from where his family was living. He was normally rewarded by his
teachers for constantly having high marks and for acting appropriately in class. On December

Blink by Malcolm Gladwell
A book review by Narendran Santhanam (G10031)
Contents Introduction3 A brief summary3 Evaluation5 Conclusion5
Introduction Blink by Malcolm Gladwell is a book about how we think without thinking, about
choices that seem to be made in an instant in the blink of an eye that actually aren t as simple as
they seem. The book deals with the smallest components of our everyday lives the content and
origin of those instantaneous impressions and conclusions that spontaneously arise whenever we
meet a new person or confront a complex situation or have to make a decision under conditions of
stress.
A brief summary ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Perhaps one of the most important points made by Gladwell in this book is that neither analytical
nor intuitive thinking is good or bad. But under chaotic conditions, the lesser the information
available, the better because information overload can delay decisions, and under pressure,
delayed decisions are worse than bad decisions. Gladwell illustrates this with an astonishing
example of an experiment where sales of a jam shop were as high as thirty percent more when they
had only six types of jam than when they had twenty four.
What Gladwell calls thin slicing or rapid cognition, should be done in context. Examples of the
market researches on taste test of Coke and Pepsi samples, survey of people s acceptance of
Michael Kenna s music and two radically new TV shows on CBS have been quoted to emphasize
the importance of context in thin slicing. Numerous instances of products that received higher
acceptance among the public only because they were packaged differently make it clear to us that
thin slicing is useful only when done the right way. When a product is new and different, it is
vulnerable to market research, which in most cases is not done in the right context, thus leading to
the product being shelved.
Having established the fact that rapid cognition is not always as accurate as one would want it to
be, Gladwell now goes on to the topic of reading the minds of others just by looking

Essay on Point Clear, Alabama
For many, the quaint town of Point Clear, Alabama represents the Old South rooted in tradition,
charm, and grace. Halfway down the bay and nearly hidden among oaks adorned with Spanish
moss, Point Clear was founded in the early 1800s. Today, the city continues to honor its role in
the Civil War, perpetuates the memories of its residents, and evolves as a greater and better
place. Following the coast line, early Spanish explores first discovered Point Clear situated on the
Bay of the Holy Spirit or as it is known today, Mobile Bay. The town was named Punta Clara in
1800 by the Spanish explorers because it was an easily identifiable landmark along the bay that
marked the halfway point from the bay s southern edge to Mobile (Havner).... Show more content

Also, east of the Point Clear Hotel in the Point Clear Cemetery lay the graves of Confederate
soldiers who were treated at the Hotel and died in Point Clear during the Civil War
(Havner)(Walker). Point Clear had a huge influx of popularity in the years following the Civil
War. In the late 1800s and early 1900s wealthy planters from all over the South flocked to the
then Point Clear Hotel and the Texas Bar (Walker). In 1882 Dr. William H. Anderson , a Mobile
resident, wrote a brochure entitled, The City of Mobile and the Contiguous County and the Gulf
Coast as Winter Resort for Health and Pleasure of Invalids and other from the North and
Northwest, in which he describes the pleasures that were found in Point Clear. He explains:
Point Clear, a watering place about twenty miles from the city of Mobile, there is a large and
elegant hotel, filled in summer with visitors from Alabama, Mississippi, and Louisiana. It is also
open in winter to all who may desire to take advantage of the salt air from the Gulf. This watering
place is the finest, most healthy and most commodious in the South (Sulzby).
Also in similar nature, Fredric P. Ravesies, President of the Vine and Olive Society and original
resident of Spring Hill, wrote in 1884 that:

The Importance Of Pressure On High School Sports
Pressure and High School Sports seem to go hand in hand these days. Whether we like pressure
or not, it is difficult to avoid. We experience pressure because of standards that others expect us to
accomplish. While some people may do well under pressure, many of us do bad under pressure.
The Kimberly Girls Volleyballteam will experience a lot of pressure as they head into the State
tournament this weekend. Expectations are very high for them because they have had a lot of
success so far this season. I talked to a girl who is currently on the varsity volleyball team that is
going to state. Payton is not a starter and doesn t get to see the court often but she is just as
important as anyone else on the team. She discussed with me some of the expectations that coaches
and fans have for them. Every game our coach always tells us not to be satisfied, and that s kinda
our team moto. I definitely think that s the expectation from our coaches is to not be satisfied with a
win or how we played just to always make it better. I believe the expectation from the fans is just to
stay positive and work as hard as we can.
With expectations high from the coaches and fans, this can add a lot of pressure and stress onto
the girls. As Payton said, I definitely think that s the expectation from our coaches it to not be
satisfied with a win or how we played just to always make it better, we can see how they are
pressured to win again because they can t be satisfied with winning one game. They have
expectations to make it far in their season because they are not satisfied after one game, they want
to win more and be number one.
I also talked to a fan, Quinn Johnson, and asked what he thought the pressures were on the girls
this year. He replied with: I think this season the pressures are there own standards. Last years
team was not as good so other teams and fans did not expect so much out of them. But after we
won the FVA this year and got the #1 seed for the playoffs more pressure was added to the team
coming into playoffs. This helps to see from a fan perspective what they believe the pressures are
and what they expect the girls to accomplish this season.
As you can probably see, with the girls success this year they

Hinduism Caste System
An estimated 900 million people are Hindu in this world. Hinduism is more of a religious culture,

and how it affects the life of individuals, while using the Hindu principles and practices to see if

Persuasive Essay On Vegetarianism
Being vegetarian or vegan is not only beneficial to the animals that are being slaughtered but it
also beneficial to the earth and helps to reduce global warming. According to Wikipedia, there
are more than seven billion people and out of those seven billion people only three hundred and
seventy five million people are said to be vegetarian or vegan. This mass slaughter of animals and
livestock is also one of the leading causes of global warming. People may think that the earthis
slowly dying but that is not the case anymore as global warming has caught up with us.
According to NASA, there are 406.94 parts per million of carbon di oxide in the atmosphere the
highest it has ever been in 650000 years. The global temperature has risen by 1.7 В°F and
sixteen out of the seventeen warmest years on earth have been recorded since 2001. The arctic
ice minimum has decreased by 13.2% per decade and in 2012 arctic summer sea ice shrank to the
lowest extent on record. The global sea level has also grown by 3.4 millimeters per year and the
global average sea level has risen nearly 178mm over the past 100 years. These statistics show you
how quickly global warming and climate changeare having an effect on earth and who knows what
the stats will be in another 50 to 100 years the earth may become uninhabitable and humans will be
the sole reason for this.
The earth has been dying slowly under our noses for many generations and we are feeling the
effect of this now and it will only get worse. The earth has been dying ever since we had the
industrial revolution so that humans could benefit and the planet could be destroyed. The polar
ice caps are melting, the weather is changing there have been months in my lifetime itself where
usually it will be cold or below a certain temperature but due to global warming I have
experienced extreme heat in months when it should not be. All of the effects of global warming
have been cause by humans Chlorofluorocarbons have been destroying the ozone layer and
allowing higher level of UV rays to penetrate the earths surface causing skin cancer and many other
horrible effects to the world around us.
Every year the meat industry is said to kill more than 66 billion animals for human consumption.

  • 2. Media And Social Media According to dictionary.com, the word media is defined as the means of communication, as radio and television, newspapers, magazines, and the Internet, that reach or influence people widely. By definition, the media is constantly swarming the public audience day in and day out while never coming to a halt. National and global coverage from the mediais essential for all people who desire staying up to date with the current events that are occurring all over the world. Although there are many different forms of media, while reflecting over a three day period of how I personally use media, I have come to realize many things. Most of my observations will be discussed throughout this essay. First of all, I can fully admit that I am very guilty of being considered an addicted media user. Before this assignment, I wasn t consciously aware of how often I check my phone for social media posts or my laptop for online news articles. The results were actually alarming; I ve come to believe that I am on my phone far too often throughout the day. The media outlets that I use the most often is Snapchat, Instagram, Facebook, Buzzfeed, DailyMail and television s nightly news programs such as News 4 New York or NBC Nightly Newswith Lester Holt. In our modern day society, I believe the platforms on social media have become the most commonly used source for media news and entertainment. Aside from just social media, I think the second most used form of media today would be the televised ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 4. Impact Of John Stuart Mill On Income Inequality ECON1401 Written Assignment 1 John Stuart Mill and Income Inequality Many great economic thinkers throughout history has offered various differing yet interrelated views and ideas that may prove useful to the analysis of current issues in modern economics. A persistent issue in the modern economy is income inequality whereby the distribution of income among the population is unequal. This means that the gap between the rich and the poor increases over time if the issue is not appropriately addressed. In exploring the issue of income inequality in Australia, this essay aims to analyse the issue from the perspective of a selected economic thinker namely John Stuart Mill by: (1) providing a summary of Mill s key ideas and theories, including the different forces that may have shaped his thinking; (2) applying Mill s conceptual framework to the income inequality problem; and (3) offer solutions he might have suggested to address this problem, including policies that may be adopted and institutions that may be constructed in the Australian context. In order to consider the problem of income inequality from Mill s perspective, it is of imperative importance to first grasp an understanding of what factors contributed to the development of his key ideas. Known as one of the most influential figures in classical economics, Mill is more commonly described as a philosopher and socialist than an economist due to his obstinate strive for progressive social reform throughout his ... • 5. Cultural Competency For A Nursing Cultural competency is extremely indispensable in nursing practice so that nurses can provide optimal care for patients from diverse cultural backgrounds. Therefore, insufficient knowledge and skills of cultural competency has continued to increase racial and ethnic inequalities in healthcare services especially for minority groups (Dunagan et al. 2013; Long, 2012). As Nurses interact with clients they provide care, education and advocacy at any point in need. Cultural awareness provides the bases for nurses to develop of interest to continue and advance in knowledge and skills to deliver cultural competent care (Calvillo, 2009). RESULTS The studies carefully chosen for the review consist of articles that employed multiple research methods. The combination of different research methods was to improve the strategies to enhance data collection and extraction (Whittemore Knaffle, 2005). The strategy specifically enhances the rigour of the process of the critical analysis to address current of knowledge on enhancing the cultural competency of new graduates (Whittemore Knaffle, 2005). DATA REDUCTION Of the seven studies included in the review, there were two that employed qualitative methods (Hart Mareno, 2014; Kokko, 2014). The chosen data collection methods were found to be suitable to the designs of each study. Chircop et al., (2013) used a quantitative research design which was deemed acceptable for obtaining measurable data regarding student competence and knowledge acquisition. While the two mixed method designs (Alpers, Hanssen, 2014; Dunagan et al., 2013) were considered effective for exploration of self assessment for to enhance cultural competency. Two other studies used quasi experimental research methods (Mareno and Hart, 2014; Noble et al., 2014). The summary to the selection process are illustrated in Appendix II. • 6. Portrayal Of Women In The Iliad Aristotle, in Politics says, The courage of a man is shown in commanding, of a woman in obeying. 1 The statement more or less sums up how the Greek viewed their women. Not only were they subjugated to men, but also, were in a position comparable to slaves. Their prime duty lay in obeying there masters, which for women were the men or kurios i.e. guardian. Having said that, let us look at the portrayal of women in the Greek literary sphere. In Homer s The Iliad, Helen of Troy, the face that launched a thousand ships is shown to be the prime bone of contention between the Greek and the Trojans. She is invested with the power to have made a thousand ships set sail to Troy to bring her back, which is immediately punctured with the fact that... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The statement itself is complex in the context of the play. If we believe that his reason for marriage is ensuring a secure future of his line which can be true because he himself was of a royal household it is ironical that for royal progeny he betrays Medea but criticizes the entire female sex for begetting children. Royal or not, Jason is an exile in Corinth. To beable to pave way into the mainstream he chooses marriage into the royal household. His children withthe princess would be the kin to the heir apparent and in case the king s son s line would be extinguished at some point of time, it would be Jason s that would inherit the kingdom. He confesses to Medea of wishing to have children with the princess around line 565, and barely 10 lines later has he criticized the very instrument of his ticket to royalty. Thus, this statement is paradoxical in itself. There is no point delving into the mind of Jason for here he is not a person but a character who vocalizes what the playwright wants him to say. So, we need to understand Euripides intention of this statement. Euripides has portrayed Medea as a character who refuses to fit into the mould Athens has created for its women. Medea, the sorceress can unhinge the King s peace of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. The Role Of Women And Their Effect On The War Nevertheless, another important element in The Iliad is the role of women and their effect on the war and their relationship with other characters. Scholar Mary R. Lefkowitz, argues that women had some independence and were under the supervisions of man. The scholar writes: In the Homeric epics women seem to have little independence; they were always under the guardianship of a man, whether a husband, father, or even a son. Wives must live in their husband s cities; women like Chryseis or Briseis, who have been captured in raids, become slaves and are completely subject to their masters. (Lefkowitz 503). I concur with the writer that women do not have any force and are compelled of by man. As the author noted about Chryseis been captured and becoming into a slave. This is exhibited in The Iliad when Chrysesis father comes to King Agamemnon to recover his little girl back in the wake of being given as a war prize to King Agamemnon. In the wake of bribing the Achenes to give back his girl, King Agamemnon reacts by saying he will not give back his little girl. This is established in Book One as Chyrses, Chryseis father drew nearer King Agamemnon, Yes, Chyrses approached the Achaean s fast ships to win his daughter back, bringing a priceless ransom...Just set my daughter free, my dear one... Here, accept these gifts, this ransom...And all the Achaean s cried out their assent: Respect the priest, accept the shining ransom! But it brought no joy in the heart of Agamemnon. The king ... • 8. Darkness At Noon Analysis The novel, Darkness at Noon, clearly referenced Stalin s purges that occurred during the late 1930s. The story follows an old Bolshevik Rubashov as he experienced the Great Purge and subsequent show trial. Through a theme of old vs. new and the overarching fear and brutality of the time period, Darkness at Noon contributes to a further understanding of the 30s in the Soviet Union. Throughout the novel, the contrast between the old and the new held an important position in the overall story. By underlining this idea, Koestler illustrated the importance of the old and new communists during the Great Purges. The characters of Wassilij, Vera Wassiljovna, Ivanov, and Gletkin showed these contrasting groups. In Soviet politics, the two interrogators illustrated the juxtaposition between old and new. The first interrogator Ivanov represented the old guard while his successor Gletkin characterized the new guard. Ivanov was an old Bolshevik he once had a picture of the old party on the wall. A former friend of Rubashov, the two attended university together and fought in the civil war. Despite the circumstances, Ivanov was rather friendly with Rubashov and confessed that he did not want Rubashov to be shot (82). After talking for a while, Rubashov stated, I am curious to know, he said aloud, what scheme you have for my salvation. The way in which you have examined me up till now seems to have exactly the opposite aim. Ivanov s smile became broad and beaming. You old fool, he ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 9. From the Broadbeach study, the investigation of offshore... From the Broadbeach study, the investigation of offshore wave conditions erosion rates and sandbar morphodynamics, show that Broadbeach experienced some unusual experience during the study period. Given that the wave conditions on the Gold Coast were considerably less energetic, results suggest that Broadbeach s beach is significantly vulnerable and is more easily eroded than other beaches reported. Time series of offshore wave conditions combined with the evolution of the beach volume also suggests that the studied beach is more exposed to high erosion rates in the presences of NE to E swell. This trend is in agreement with visual observation all along the Gold Coast. However, the second and third storm wave events are estimated to be of... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... During the first and second extreme events mentioned in the study, the 150m wide Coolangatta Beach experienced the most intense erosion because waves did not reach the vegetated dune. The beach then recovered markedly, which can be explained by the presence of the sand bypassing system and sheltering from he SE high waves (Castelle et al., 2007). The evolution of measured beach volumes over the study period strongly suggests that the Gold Coast beaches are not able to withstand a powerful succession of extreme vents. The first high wave event strongly weakened the beaches, which did not recover before the second high wave event of a magnitude not unusual along the Gold Coast. However, in these two cases, the storms resulted in surprisingly high erosion rates. Data from a more in depth investigation of Broadbeach, using video imagery, suggest that outer bar decay, resulting in a lack of protection of the sub aerial beach, may explain this high erosion. The present results show that high energy easterly swells have a considerable destructive power on both northern and southern Gold Coast beaches. Even though no tropical cyclone directly crossed the Gold Coast, which would have resulted in much higher energy waves and a more severe storm surge, the erosion measured is the most substantial of the past 30 years. The Gold Coast beaches investigated lost between 34 and 52m3/m, which, in terms of beach nourishment, is an extremely large amount of sand. This suggests hat ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 11. Hitler s Effect On The German People And Nazi Rule Nazi Germany Essay INTRODUCTION discuss the question and what you are going to talk about in your essay From 1933 1938 life in Germany was worse for people because of the way that Hitler abused the power he had been given. Not only did he abuse the power but the people of Germany themselves. At the same time, there were also some positives in the way that Hitler ran things. He completely abolished unemployment rates, and gave the German people a sense of pride again. The key aspects of Adolf Hitler s rule on Germany when he came into power were the separation of certain people such as communists, Jews and disable or handicapped people from the pure Germans. Hitler s rule had several effects in the German people and their country. Hitler was very aware of things and therefore he knew what the people wanted and the things he needed to promise to them in order to be selected for the position of chancellor. This caused both positive and negative effects on the German people and Hitler s Nazi rule. The Weimar Republicknow as the makeshift democracy was set up as an emergency solution to assist with the diminishing of the post war effects on the Germany society and population. The Government was unstable due to it having to face the harshest social, economic and political issues of Germany. The reason why the Weimar Republic was out ruled was because they gave too much power to the states and the army. PARAGRAPH 1 conditions in Germany when Hitler came to power including ... • 12. Roe V. Wade And Planned Parenthood Kaleem Jackson Dr. Joseph S. Devaney April 6, 2015 American Government Roe v. Wade and Planned Parenthood v. Casey Essay In Roe v. Wade, in 1973, the Supreme Court held a case that a pregnant woman has the full privacy right to have an abortion. The right to abortion is not guaranteed and must be stable against the State s countervailing benefits in keeping the health of the woman and in protecting the life of the unborn child. The State s belief in protecting the health of the woman becomes definite, therefore greatly enough to support state ruling of abortion under the strict scrutiny standard of judicial review; after the first trimester, which is the stage of pregnancy when abortion becomes dangerous to the mother carrying the child to term. The State s concern in protecting the life of the unborn child becomes irresistible, after possibility, the stage of pregnancy when the unborn child is capable of independent life. Because neither interest is irresistible before the second trimester, the State may not regulate abortion in the first trimester either to reserve the woman s health or to protect the life of the unborn child. After the first trimester the State may control the act of an abortion, but only for the purpose of protecting the woman s health, not for the purpose of protecting the life of the unborn child. After viability, the State may regulate, and even forbid, abortion to protect the life of the unborn child, except when the act of abortion is needed to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

What I Learned From Your Book Jiaxin Cheng LSU ID: 893952268 ENGL 1001 21/09/2016 Dear Professor Csikszentmihalyi, This letter is talking about what I learned from your book, my flow experiences and what are elements of flow in my opinion. But before that I would like to share a old Chinese fairy tale with you. 1800 years ago in Jin dynasty of China, there was a farmer who s name is Wangzhi. One day he went out to cut firewood in hills, he saw there are an old man and a child playing the GO (a Chinese game) in pavilion. So he left his axe on a stump and watched them playing. He was so focus on the game that he totally forgot the time. After a long time, the child told him that as it is so late you had better go home. Then Wangzhi pick up his axe and start to go home. He was so surprised that his axe handle was rotted and mold. When he backed home his neighbor told him he had already went out more than 10 years. Of cause fairy tales are not always true story and also may sound like an exaggeration. But in this fairy tale we can know that Chinese people realize that people have flow experience hundreds years ago. In this semester we have been discussing about Optimal Experience and what is Flow and how to achieve it in class. I learned that you named the psychological concept of flow, a highly focused mental state. Stam and Raengo go even further by claiming [a] filmic adaptation is automatically different and original due to the change of medium (17). Another reason why adaptations are infidel to their source material, apart from media characteristics, is money: While a novelist s choices are relatively unconstrained by considerations of budget [...] films are from the outset immersed in technology and commerce (16). The third form of happiness is defined satisfaction with life as a whole being able to look back on one s life and be satisfied with what one has done/experienced (Nozick, p. 110). He argues it is easy to understand why people long for this type of happiness, as it is pleasurable to experience in itself. The development and use of the disk brakes was fist in England in the 1980 s. Frederick William Lanchaster was the first guy that patented the first ever caliper type disk brake in his Birmingham factory in 1902 and it was used successfully on his Lanchaster cars. • 27. Analysis Of John Milton s Paradise Lost Essay Eve s story arc in Paradise Lost, by John Milton, is a bildungsroman, the German word for a novel of education. Eve develops through the five stages of a typical bildungsroman character, as demonstrated by several different works from the genre. It will be useful to discuss several different bildungsromans from different eras and regions to fully determine the necessary characteristics of a bildungsroman, like The Odyssey, To Kill a Mockingbird, David Copperfield, Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, and The Catcher in the Rye. One of the most well known bildungsromans and one of the most applicable to Eve s development is To Kill a Mockingbird. Scout Finch goes through a process comparable to Eve s, and will be especially useful in assessing Eve s maturation since they are both heroines. It is worth noting that although Eve is not necessarily the protagonist and certainly not the sole focus of Paradise Lost, the work may still be a bildungsroman in the same way that The Odyssey is Telemachus bildungsroman despite the work not being centered around him. A bildungsroman is very similar to the classic coming of age story, but the former tends to investigate the moral growth of the protagonist more than the latter. According to the Encyclopedia Brittanica, a bildungsroman deals with the maturation process, with how and why the protagonist develops as he does, both morally and psychologically. The critical aspects of a bildungsroman are, as evidenced by examples of the genre: ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This ORS should be administered in teaspoons at a slow steady rate if the child is refusing to drink normally, or if vomiting occurs after drinking. 3)Normal age appropriate diet should be offered to the infant, no special considerations are required. Since the infant is currently mildly dehydrated we need to provide 6 ounces of ORS to restore normal hydration in addition to 6 ounces for each additional episode. Since the infant has been refusing to drink this is the perfect opportunity for the mother and father to practice giving ORS using a teaspoon. Family was instructed to provide a teaspoon full of ORS to their child as often as he would accept it over a period of one to two hours until at least 6 ounces have been administered. On the other hand, is the due process model and is tied to liberal values. In this model, equality and due process are the main concern. Both parties still view criminals similarly though and feel that criminals should be punished, one is just more time consuming and accurate than the other. Nationally, our criminal justice budget is over 200 billion dollars each year which is distributed to all branches of the system accordingly. Despite having what seems to be more than enough money to run a well orchestrated justice system, it would never be fair to make the system tougher. The reason for this is because in order to be tough on crime, it has to be the same for every level of crime. This would mean that smaller crimes would be accompanied with harsher punishments. Harsher punishments on all crime would lead to a sequence of events introduced by Stanley Cohen in 1972. The purpose of its creation was pretty straight forward, that is, to prevent failures in banking (Meltzer Allan, 2010). During the time of its inception, the United States had gone through a vicious banking crisis in 1907. The crisis gained importance as it was observed how Knickerbockers Trust failed to receive support from its peers, even after voluntarily seeking for it. It ultimately faced collapse due to failure in receiving support. This also had a significant influence on the psychology of the public as the peers of Knickerbockers apart from not recuing it, also cancelled payments to each other. The New York Stock Exchange collapsed by fifty per cent until liquidity was injected by the initiatives of financier J.P. Morgan which then relieved the situation to some extent. The legislators then in response vehemently advocated putting in place a central banking system, which would be able to provide liquidity in the case of a wholesale downfall. It can be said with hindsight that the machinery back then used to be very sophisticated. The Wall Street Journal also published a comprehensive fourteen part series which emphasized on the need for a central banking system. The idea received further endorsements from the public groups and trade organizations. Hence the Federal Reserve was born. It was meant to be a politically autonomous institution that would provide stability to the financial system, protect the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 33. An Analysis Of Judie Randall Put Her Daughter, Michele... Judie Randall put her daughter, Michele Song, up for adoption in hopes of giving her a better life with another family. Michele Song s files were sealed by the law, and at the age of 31, after 13 years of petitioning, a social worker was allowed to give non identifying information about her birth motherand father. Eventually the social worker allowed Song to write a letter in the hopes she could get it to her. Michele Song waited for her daughters birth to contact her birth mother in the hopes of meeting her (Carroll 355). This essay was successful because of her style, her use of figurative language, and her content. This letter was clearly an impulsive one. In fact, she did not include a salutation. One can only assume it was because she had no idea how her birth mother, Judie Randall, would react when she saw the letter or if she even wanted to speak to her. Song was most likely very nervous about Randall s reaction and didn t want to scare her away or to feel awful about giving her up. It was clear through Songs diction that all she knew when she started was that she wanted to meet her birth mother. Song had no idea what she was trying to say in fear of losing the chance of speaking to her birth mother and you can tell because of the dramatic difference between the first and the last paragraph. The first paragraph was full of rhetorical questions and scatter brained explanations for the letter, which made her seem nervous. The first paragraph most likely made ... After looking through my options and speaking to my partner I eventually gave up and chose to research a topic I had much more interest in. I ended up choosing commercial aviation and more specifically the selection process in which materials are chosen for the wings used in the commercial aircraft. With the goal of becoming an aerospace engineer, I felt this topic was something I could get involved with on higher level and it would definitely help me put more effort into my research and in return I would achieve something out of it. Working with my partner Brian was also a pleasurable experience. Although... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Using various sources I was able to come up with many questions and answers about my topic. Before actually looking into the materials used in the wings, I translated the requirements similarly to Ashby s method. I wrote down an initial function for the wings and its constraints and objective. Using this outline I started my research. Of course, with any engineering design there were many steps before the actual design process. This is usually defining the actual function. In the case of the aircraft wings the actual function is to provide lift for the aircraft and contain an assortment of devices and other materials in the interior safely and efficiently. Because many lives will be at stake if the wings fail, safety is one of the ultimate concerns. During my research I looked up many of the potential conditions that aircraft wings go through. To function, the wings have to deal with a variety of forces and loads. But, the main goal is obviously not to have one successful flight and start over. The wings have to last many years, with proper maintenance. Therefore the main objective for many engineers is to come up with a design that can withstand an extensive amount of cycles, and also be cost effective. I looked up the average life of an aircraft and it varied by manufacturer. It averaged around to be a 100,000 cycles before a commercial jet was retired. To reach this ... There exists no restriction for personal prayer (1 Corinthians 14:18 19), however should not be used in public places without an interpreter, as mentioned in 1 Corinthians 14:28. This would compromise the edifying design for unbelievers. Much controversy has been raised over 1 Corinthians 13 and what is said to be valid . Those negating the validity of speaking in tongues typically use 1 Corinthians 13:8 10 as the basis for their argument. However, the verse is comparing eternal with temporal things. This is Paul s way of emphasizing peace in abiding things (like faith, hope and love) versus division for the sake of the tongues controversy to the church (Smith). Verse 10 also brings about the discussion of what Paul refers to as perfect . Even though, those belonging to the Negative School argue that which is perfect is to be the full canon of the Bible, there is nothing that suggests that the Holy Spirit will stop moving through this gift. His love and infatuation with the moon leads to his death. This poem not only tells the story of this young child s demise, but also shows the effects when someone is lured in by an appealing temptation. The poem uses many literary devices to enhance the meaning the words provide. The poem starts at the beginning of the story as the mooncomes to visit the forge. The moon has now become ominous as it forewarns of the child s death. Spanish culture is once again brought into the poem as the moon becomes deathly. The moon has always been a figure of death in Spanish history and continues to be represented in that matter by this poem. The moon s sensual appeal balances its foreboding nature. The boy is enticed by the mystery of the moon and does not heed her warning. Once again the boy warns the moon, flee, moon, moon, moon (17), as he shows his continued persistence to save the moon he has been draw into. He warns that the gypsies are coming, but the moon will not leave its dance. The moon says, young boy, leave me, don t step on / my starched whiteness (19 20). This shows her lack of concern for the boy, which exemplifies her task to only attract him to her. Her starched whiteness once again contradicts her true mission to lead him to his demise. Beating the drum of the plain (22) stresses the intensity of the moment leading up to the point that within the forge the young man has closed eyes (23). The climax of the story has just occurred, as the child death has taken place. The Spanish belief that the moon is a bad omen has remained true with the little boy s eyes closed, signifying his death. As for the negative side of this study was that there was too much ambiguity about Christians, as well as the lines between scripture and community is not clear, the community is never explained by Hauerwas, and lastly, the Christian story is not a true story. Despite his withdrawal from the argument throughout the rest of the Republic, his early ideas help lead Socrates farther on his search for justice through the construction of a hypothetical just city. But under chaotic conditions, the lesser the information available, the better because information overload can delay decisions, and under pressure, delayed decisions are worse than bad decisions. Gladwell illustrates this with an astonishing example of an experiment where sales of a jam shop were as high as thirty percent more when they had only six types of jam than when they had twenty four. What Gladwell calls thin slicing or rapid cognition, should be done in context. Examples of the market researches on taste test of Coke and Pepsi samples, survey of people s acceptance of Michael Kenna s music and two radically new TV shows on CBS have been quoted to emphasize the importance of context in thin slicing. Numerous instances of products that received higher acceptance among the public only because they were packaged differently make it clear to us that thin slicing is useful only when done the right way. When a product is new and different, it is vulnerable to market research, which in most cases is not done in the right context, thus leading to the product being shelved. Having established the fact that rapid cognition is not always as accurate as one would want it to be, Gladwell now goes on to the topic of reading the minds of others just by looking ... We experience pressure because of standards that others expect us to accomplish. While some people may do well under pressure, many of us do bad under pressure. The Kimberly Girls Volleyballteam will experience a lot of pressure as they head into the State tournament this weekend. Expectations are very high for them because they have had a lot of success so far this season. I talked to a girl who is currently on the varsity volleyball team that is going to state. Payton is not a starter and doesn t get to see the court often but she is just as important as anyone else on the team. She discussed with me some of the expectations that coaches and fans have for them. Every game our coach always tells us not to be satisfied, and that s kinda our team moto. I definitely think that s the expectation from our coaches is to not be satisfied with a win or how we played just to always make it better. I believe the expectation from the fans is just to stay positive and work as hard as we can. With expectations high from the coaches and fans, this can add a lot of pressure and stress onto the girls. As Payton said, I definitely think that s the expectation from our coaches it to not be satisfied with a win or how we played just to always make it better, we can see how they are pressured to win again because they can t be satisfied with winning one game. They have expectations to make it far in their season because they are not satisfied after one game, they want to win more and be number one. I also talked to a fan, Quinn Johnson, and asked what he thought the pressures were on the girls this year. He replied with: I think this season the pressures are there own standards. Last years team was not as good so other teams and fans did not expect so much out of them. But after we won the FVA this year and got the #1 seed for the playoffs more pressure was added to the team coming into playoffs.
