What Is White Man s Burden Of Imperialism
White man s Burden is a poem which promotes the exploitation of the Aboriginals. From the its first
verse to its end, it makes the concept of imperialism seem like a duty or job which needs to be done.
Progressing through the poem, imperialism is viewed as a privilege in which it educates the half man,
half child . The poem presents exploitation as a reward to the uneducated. As goes the first verse, Take
up the white man s burden , it s instantly referring to the Europeans. To be fully blunt, it s the
European s in reference because of the skin colour; white man . Send forth the best ye breed, bind
your sons to exile to serve your captives needs simply implies to send their best men forward and
serve their prisoners need, their need of being colonized and controlled, which can only be done by the
best of men. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Your new caught, sullen peoples, half devil, half child . This is referring to the Aboriginals in a very
criticizing way. Sullen peoples, half devil, half child is how the Europeans saw these Aboriginals
when they came in contact. The Aboriginals weren t considered people but more so, monsters. They
were considered wild and angry. Take up the white man s burden, the savage wars of peace, fill the
mouth of Famine and bid the sickness cease . The savage wars of peace are the protests of the
colonists in which the Europeans must feel obliged to change their savage ways and end them with so
called peace . They must feed their empty stomachs and provide medicine for the colonists as part of
their duty. And when your goal is nearest. The end for others sought, watch sloth and heathen Folly.
Bring all your hopes to naught . The Europeans must not give up because these sullen peoples are
finally getting rid of their savage ways. The end for the half child and half devil is near. They are lazy
and they are heathen; consisting of no culture or

Integrating Data in a Heterogeneous and Real Time IT Environment
Summary and Evaluation
Technology has changed vastly in the last fifty years. These changes can be seen in many areas such
as airline reservation systems, automated teller machines, mobile phones, the internet, world wide web
and sensor networks. These sources generate a lot of data; heterogeneous data means coming from
different sources. Businesses have focused on automating their processes, and they have realized that
data integration is becoming complicated. Thus, it is important to understand how to integrate and
analyze data in real time.
In this webinar, speaker Colin White talks about the Integration of data into a heterogeneous
environment as well ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The main goal of this real time data operation intelligence is to eliminate the data warehousing
latencies. By achieving this, the organization can make better decisions hence able to make more rapid
decisions.
The security factor in data warehousing is a main area to focus on. Colin discusses an example of a
company that was highly charged due to not using the fraud detecting system. Thus, the company
faced a $45 million fraud because of poor security. To clarify, two people took $45 Million from an
ATM Scheme; they used two card numbers to steal the money. However, the banks didn t detect the
fraud because their data integration system was inefficient.
Operational intelligence workflow is also discussed in detail with its 3 types of environments. There
are three types of environment; the first one is data warehouse environment, where the data aren t
changing. This is where the data is analyzed because it is at rest. The other two are operating systems
and real time analysis platforms, where we can make models, analyze data, and make the analysis. The
Analytics and alerts along with the recommendations are shaped by analyzing Enterprise Data
warehouses. Operational dashboard shows what is going on with our business and what changes we
should make. This output is sent to the users via nearby RT operational dashboards.
Colin lists four options for data integration. There are four approaches of OI; the first one is Enterprise
DW which has a

The Negative Effects Of Caffeine
Most of us fail to realize that caffeine is present in almost every drink that we consume. Most people
enjoy the positive effects that caffeine does to our bodies, but have you ever thought of the negative?
Caffeine is a stimulant to the central nervous system and the regular use of it can cause a mild physical
dependence. With a dependence being shown I strongly do believe that caffeine is just as addictive as
any other drug. Over 90 percent of the United States consumes caffeinated beverages on a daily basis
and almost over 50 percent of those people drink more than the recommended amount. With the
majority of people having coffees in the mornings we fail to recognize the negative impact it can have
on our body. By 2011 there have ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Since caffeine is a stimulant and a diuretic it will increase your blood pressure and heart rate by a lot,
which is a big no when it comes to pregnancy. You may be able to handle the intake of caffeine that
you drink normally per day but can your baby? Numerous studies, tested on animals, have shown birth
defects, premature labor, preterm delivery, reduced fertility and an increased risk of low birth weight
and more reproductive problems. There were two studies conducted in 2008 that either have or haven t
related the effects of drinking high amounts of caffeine relating to miscarriages. Study one, by the
American Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology, found that women who drink 200mg or more of
caffeinated beverages daily are two times as likely to have a miscarriage than those who do not have
any caffeine. The other study, by Epidemiology, showed that there was no risk of such allegations.
Due to the conflicting results from the numerous studies the March of Dimes stated that until more
conclusive evidence can be shown that mothers to be should limit their caffeine intakes to no more
than 200 mg per day. Have you ever stopped drinking coffee or soda for a few days and felt sick days
later? That s because you are going through something called a withdrawal. A withdrawal means that
you are not taking something that your body is used to having and it then makes you sick. People who
suffer from a withdrawal usually are dependent on drugs, but the

Media And Its Impact On The Political Movement Essay
The norm of journalism is to present information or news to the general public via mass media. Thus,
it plays an important part in everyday life. Notwithstanding, media have a vigorous relation with
politics especially among the democratic societies (Fernandez Quijada 2013). Moreover, the media is
also perceived as the fourth estate due to the fact that it able to influence and affects the perceptions of
the general public towards the political movement (Kemp 2013). However, in comparison to the past,
nowadays, the modernisation of technology, the change of social patterns and political conditions
somewhat change how the media works (Gerth Siegert 2012). In their article stated that media
companies are predominantly private owned companies, thus, the media are more to market
orientation. Therefore, the media are not necessarily providing vital information to the general public
(Gerth Siegert 2012). Henceforth, the media commonly utilise the practise of framing to provide
information on political matter to the general public (Hanggli 2012). Framing denotes how the role of
media influences its audiences in interpreting and contemplating on issues provided (Kemp 2013).
Therefore, the purpose of this essay is to analyse how the media presents the overall political contents
in newspaper from the New Zealand Herald dated April 23rd and how framing in the political contents
influences the general public. The advancement and modernisation of technology transform how

Shark Finning Is Killing Sharks
Are you scared of sharks? Well, there is approximately 5 human deaths, shark related each year, but
over 100 million sharks are killed each year by humans. Who should really be scared? Shark finning is
killing sharks and decreasing their populations to a level where they may never fully recover.
Causes for this are fishermen shark finning at a very high rate and for consumers being oblivious to
the situation or what had to be done for them to eat the shark fin soup. Sharks are being harmed by
humans cutting off their fin, also known as shark finning to make a Chinese delicacy called shark fin

fault. Movies such as Jaws, Jurassic Shark, Mega Shark Versus Giant Octopus,
Hammerhead/SharkMan, Bait, Shark Night, Sharknado and Reef are all films that delineate sharks as
terrifying, horrid, oversized, and vengeful creatures that go after humans with only the intent to kill

The three stakeholders in the shark finning situation are the consumers and fishermen which believe
shark finning should not be banned and the environmentalists which believe shark finning should be

they believe it is part of their culture and that it will provide health benefits which are just a myth.
There is no scientific evidence proving that shark fin will help heal or have a health benefit, but there
has been evidence of high levels of mercury and toxins found in the fin. The normal arguments on

Japan Baseball History
The sport of baseball was not established until the late 1800 s. The sport was not played at the
collegiate or even pro level until the early 1900 s. Whenever the first colleges started playing baseball,
there were two colleges that aided in the help to form the Tokyo Big Six University League: Keio and
Waseda. There was also a high school championship that occurred in Osaka, which helped spark the
love of baseball across the nation. The country of Japan didn t have a professional team at this time,
but there was one thing that caused them to change their minds. The United States team was touring
from country to country which eventually led them to stop in Japan. They were showing their baseball
skills, and the Japanese people realized that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This team also toured the United States, and later went on to be named the Tokyo Giants. This team,
along with seven other teams made up what was then called: The Japanese Baseball League. Around
1950, the Nippon Professional Baseball League (NPB), was divided into two different leagues: the
Pacific League and the Central League. Each of these leagues were made up of six teams that played
each other up until the Japan Series, as well as the All Star game. Despite the many athletes that Japan
has, not very many of them went on to play in the Major League. One major factor that kept Japanese
players from playing in the Major League during this time was World War II. The Japanese players
felt that they shouldn t leave their country during that time of turmoil, so many of them turned down
contracts to play in the majors. Another reason many of them stayed to play in Japan was the contracts
that many of them had with the NPB. Around 2000, the NPB and MLB worked out the differences, in
order for Japanese players to play in the MLB without there being consequences because of their NPB

Football And Gladiator Similarities
Gladiator games and football have more similarities than we believe. The number one component is
violence. Crowds scream in excitement as the Coliseum gets covered in blood in the gladiatorial
games. Comparing to today, fans scream and cheer as two teams tackle each other in a football game.
Looking at modern day sports and the gladiator games, they suggest that football has just as much
violence as the gladiator games played in the Roman times. If a sport contains violence, it tends to be
the most popular. Both the sport, football and gladiator games involve incredible, violence sights in
front of a huge, cheering crowd (Probing Question: Is football similar to Roman Gladiator Games?,
Jesse Hicks). In football, fans pick their favorite

In what ways does Mendelian genetics differ from polygenic inheritance? Mendelian genetics differs
from polygenic inheritance because one trait is controlled by one gene in specific. There is also a
dominant and a recessive. In polygenic inheritance one trait may be controlled by two or more genes.
6. In what ways are the two models of inheritance the same? The many genes that are controlling a
polygenic trait are all inherited by Mendelian genetics. While the genes individually contain
Mendelian inheritance, the trait itself does not because a vast amount of genes are involved in making
it specific. 7. Unfortunately, the χ2 test is mathematically unsuitable for use with averages. What
statistical test could we use to determine if our average TRC is really the same as Holt s (1952) data?
In order to compare our average TRC to that of Holt s (1952), we can use a t test. In Holt s experiment

Walker Percy s essay, The Loss of the Creature describes the experiences that each person goes
through as either a genuine experience driven by own desires, or one that is already preconceived by
experts. Percy believes that people can only learn from experiences that are driven by pure personal
desire, and not experiences already preconceived by experts. Percy describes the loss of sovereignty as
preconceived notions of an experience with the help of experts. W.E.B Du Bois, on the other hand,

Du Bois said that nothing will change in the educational system, thus, the students never get a chance

students as simple students who are letting expert opinions control what they do, and how they

Making Management Decisions
ASSIGNMENT 1
Lewandowska Santhirasekaran
1. Principles of business planning and decision making
Decision Making is A commitment to action (Mintzberg, H., 1983, p. 188) ; Management decisions
are made for a lot of different reasons, mainly because decision making is a fundamental aspect of the
management functions and management decision making which makes it a key management role. (M.
Teale, V.Dispenza, J. Flynn, D.Currie, 2003, p. 10) (D. Boddy, 2008, p. 209)

According to the situation the LiveShows Ltd is at now, all of the decisions will be programmed , it
can be assumed that once programmed decision has been made, then the consequences will be known.
These decisions are normally characterised by a known set of objectives, and can lend themselves to
programmed decision making methods. Management science offers tools and methodologies that
enable the organisations to deal with managerial problems. It deals with collection, interpretation and
presentation of data; however it is important to remember and understand the limitations, assumptions
and specific applicability of the methods in question. (M. Teale, V.Dispenza, J. Flynn, D.Currie, 2003,
pp. 228, 229)
The decisions are based on business objectives and context; decision making types can also divide into
three, depending on how much the decision made will affect the business in terms of time and
direction; these include:
Strategic Decisions long term decisions that affect the direction of the business
Tactical Decisions medium term decisions based around how to implement a strategy
Operational Decisions short term decisions, also known as administrative decisions about how to
implement the tactics. (T. Hannagan, 2008, p. 425)

Essay On Factory Farming
Do you know what your meal went through to get to your plate and how it is affecting your day to day
life? Factory farming is an industrial type operation that uses large quantities of animals to provide
food fast and efficiently. Almost all the meats and animal byproducts that we consume, cause harm
and pain to the animals as they go through the cycle of factory farming and it might cause issues
affecting your health. Factory farming is unethical because the practices are uneconomical, unsanitary,
and unnecessary. Factory farming is raising livestock with one intent in mind, which is getting money
fast while spending little. They use shortcuts to make production more efficient, but do so without the
animal s wellbeing in mind. Some people agree with the prospects of factory farming because they
benefit economically. When going to the local grocery store and looking through the meat and egg

PAS Upgrade
Planning for a PACS Upgrade in the Imaging Department When considering an upgrade in
departmental picture archiving and communication system (PACS), many different areas need to be
taken into consideration including: financial, technical, and operational implications (Dreyer,
Hirschorn, Thrall, Mehta, 2010, p. 28). The diagnostic medical imaging department can be a very busy
and demanding environment. It may be necessary to add additional workstations or update current
workstations, upgrade imaging equipment, or make changes in the archiving system. In the facility
where I am employed, I see a need for updating in workstations and equipment, in particular, the

When preparing to acquire images, the first step related to the PACS is looking up results from similar
studies done previously. Viewing previous studies and reading over reports helps to know what to
expect. There is only one station available to view previous vascular studies, and one station available
to view previous echocardiographic studies. Team members are constantly waiting for the viewing
station to become available. When downloading the current order and patient information onto the
equipment prior to the study, there is another bottleneck as only two ports with access to the Internet
are available in our department. When there are more than two technicians working, there is one
waiting for access to the PACS. The limited access to Internet ports becomes an issue again once the
studies are complete. There is a lot of down time waiting for access to the Internet as well as waiting
for a PACS station to become available. If our department had wireless capabilities, there would be a
lot less down time between patients. My role in the imaging department also requires me to keep a

Who is Philo Farnsworth?
General Purpose: My general purpose is to inform the class about Philo Farnsworth.
Specific Purpose: My specific purpose is to inform the class about Philo Farnsworth, a pioneer of the
modern television and how his invention affects us today.
Introduction:
A. Attention Getter: The Father of Television could not possibly imagine that his contributions and
innovations would have such an amazing effect, because of Philo Farnsworth the first electric
television was produced, now 89% of households worldwide have televisions (Ahonen, 2011).
B. Credibility Statement: With constant research and a determination to learn as much as I could about
Philo Farnsworth I was able to gain knowledge over his accomplishments and the life he lived.

Netflix isn t the only industry that profited from the creation of the television. 1. There are dozens of
large companies that produce or fund films that are displayed over the television. a. One example is
Disney, which has created dozens of films that we all continue to enjoy. b. New stations also do well
because of television, for years people have relied on news stations such as Fox and ABC and their
broadcast to provide them with current events from around the world. 2. Other companies that produce
televisions, such as Philips, have grown into major industries that have learned from Farnsworth s
design to evolve the television to what we have today.
Conclusion:
Transition: That is how the father of television has effect each of us and what he did to earn that title,
now let s finish up.

Impact Tip Position
2) Correctly position the impact tip in the center of the head and establish the zero point before
impacting. Unlike open head injury, the impact tip positioning is relatively difficult. First, the size of
the impact tip and the impact center affect the injury degree and lesions. An optimized 9mm tip is used
in this protocol. Based on mouse brain anatomy, the impact center is designed to correspond to the
central sagittal suture midway between coronal and lambdoid sutures. To positioning a correct injury
site, the impact tip must be adjusted to the target coordinates above the sagittal suture midway and one
edge of the impact tip must be vertical parallel to an imaginary horizontal line drawn between the two
ears. Due to the 9mm diameter

A Plan For A University Facilities Project Manager
INTRODUCTION Teams, as discussed this semester, referred to individuals at one firm brought
together to, for example, complete a project, develop a new product, or define a new process.
However, I as a university facilities project manager, have a different sort of team; one consisting of
individuals from different firms brought together to complete a building project. How might the
principles of team building be utilized in my team consisting of end user group (who will occupy the
building), facilities operations staff, architect, and contractor or construction manager?
The construction industry has utilized a concept called partnering on large projects with the goal of
creating a cooperative environment to minimize conflicts which could result in claims or litigation
(GSA 2016). It is hoped to achieve this goal by creating an environment of trust and open
communication among the participants. Caltrans is a strong advocate of partnering; requiring the
process on all projects over $10 million (Caltrans 2013). They have an admirable field guide and
partnering training program. We also have PMI s Project Management Book of Knowledge providing
guidance in developing a project management plan (PMP). The PMP documents much of what is
covered in partnering sessions. Yet in reviewing the Caltrans field guide, creating PMPs, reading
partnering articles, and participating in partnering sessions myself; the process is missing something.
That missing piece is true team

Scarlet Letter Compare And Contrast Essay
Just because books are different does not mean that they cannot entertain the same audience. The
Scarlet Letter is a novel written by Nathaniel Hawthorne that takes place in the 1700s. Warrior Cats is
a series of novels written by a group of people who call themselves Erin Hunter. I used to read Warrior
Cats when I was younger, but I have a more advanced reading level now. These books have a lot more
differences than similarities. I like both of these books; however, one was an assignment and the other
was just a hobby. These books are different because of plot, plot size, and content. They are similar
because a big part of their content is based off of religion. These books are completely opposite in
terms of book plots. To start off, Warrior Cats is written in the minds of various cats; The Scarlet
Letter follows humans. Warrior Cats is all about cats living in four different clans: Thunderclan,
Riverclan, Windclan, and Shadowclan. All of the books pertain to the cats fighting with the other clans
and fulfilling prophecies. The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Scarlet Letter s source of religion is obvious. Hester Prynne commits a sin and she is shamed for
committing that sin. She commits adultery with a priest which, in turn, deals with a lot of other sins. In
Warrior Cats, their religion is called Starclan. Starclan is basically heaven for the cats. Their ancestors
talk to them and give them prophecies on how to protect their clans. Cats either believe or do not
believe in Starclan. The cats who are not from clans, like house cats, are usually the ones that do not
believe in Starclan. Many of their customs are based off of Starclan. Some examples are when the clan
leaders receive their nine lives from Starclan and when medicine cats communicate with Starclan and
try to interpret their prophecies. These books have two very different forms of religion, but a majority
of characters from each book believes in their assigned

How Business Cartels Have A Way Of Controlling Competition
Business cartels have a way of controlling competition, it is for this reason that landlords, real estate
owners, and owners of mining companies have decided to join the election polls in Bangalore, India.
Bangalore being the third largest city and is it is considered to be the Silicon Valley of India. Many
political parties deny any dealings with these owners but have them running on their ticket in the
election. The elections are mostly capital intensive and these people have the ability to finance any
political party. It is for this reason why the Addyston Pipe and Steel Co v U.S , bidding ring case will
be discuss in this paper to explain why bidding rings are formed.
Addyston Pipe and Steel Co. v U.S , court case of 1889 in which the Supreme Court of the United
States granted the federal government certain regulatory powers over private business. The case
resulted from a number of convictions of pip manufacturing firms for price fixing, a practice that
washeld to be a violation of the Sherman Antitrust Act that regulates the actions of corporate trusts.
While the pipe companies argued that manufacturing was not under federal regulation, the Court ruled
that price fixing was a clear impingement on interstate commerce and was therefore under federal
regulatory jurisdiction.
It was charged in the petition that on the 28th of December, 1894, the defendants entered into a
combination and conspiracy among themselves, by which they agreed that there should be no

Analysis Of 40 Acres And A Mule
40 Acres and a Mule
For most Americans, our ancestors came to the United States to own land and it was true if you were a
white male. The right to own land in the United States has not been a reality for much of people in the
US without a long struggle to change laws regarding citizenship and land ownership. At the time of
the Revolutionary War and the writing of the constitution, land ownership was limited to citizens .
Becoming a citizen, even if a person was born in the United States was quite muddy. The decision of
who could be a citizen or own land was left up to the individual states. Persons of various ethnicities
were legally denied citizen status for years in many states. In addition to persons who are citizens,

The emancipation of slaves in the southern US and the after effects of the Civil War caused General
Sherman to, in January 1865, issue Special Field Order Number 15. Thousands of former slaves were
basically refugees, having no jobs, homes or property. Many slaves thought erroneously that after they
were freed they would be given the land on which they worked. This didn t happen and they were
turned out on their own. Order Number 15 was issued as a response to the refugee/slave issue.
400,000 acres along the South Carolina, Georgia and Florida coasts was set aside to be given to
Freedmen. The area was to be populated by blacks only and by a government made up those peoples.
The allocation of land was to be not more than 40 acres of tillable land per person or family, self
governed and self ruled. The decision to give land to the freed slaves came about by Sherman asking
leaders of the Negro community, 20 Baptist and Methodist ministers, what did their people want. They
said land.
Over 40,000 free slaves, by June of 1865, then staked their claims on the land. The term 40 Acres and
a Mule was not written into the order, but somehow fabricated by the land allocation amount and
Sherman giving some of the new land owners excess military mules. What happened next began the
declining relationship of African Americans and their ability to own land. With the

As moneylenders, they became immensely wealthy, controlling Spanish customs and extending their
power throughout Spain s overseas empire. Their influence stretched from Rome to Budapest, from
Lisbon to Danzig, from Moscow to Chile. In their banking role, they loaned millions of ducats to
kings, cardinals and the Holy Roman emperor, financing wars, propping up popes, and underwriting
new adventures putting up the money, for example, that King Carlos of Spain gave Magellan in
commissioning his voyage around the world. In the early sixteenth century the family patriarch was
Jakob Fugger II, who first emerged as a powerful figure in 1505, when he secretly bought the crown
jewels of Charles the Bold, duke of Burgundy. Jakob first became count in Kirchberg and
Weisserhorn; then, in 1514 the emperor Maximilian I
der gross Max acknowledged the Fuggers role as his chief financial supporter for thirty years by
making him a hereditary knight of the Holy Roman Empire. In 1516, by negotiating complex loans,
Jakob made Henry VIII of England a Fugger ally. It was a tribute to the family s influence, and to the
growth of trade everywhere, that a year later the Church s Fifth Lateran Council lifted its age old
prohibition of usury.

Personal Narrative-Haunted
Haunted
Today marks the four year anniversary of my brother s suicide, and once again I am haunted.
Haunted by the last conversation I had with Mike the weekend before he died. He was panicked and
overwhelmed over some issues with his job and with his landlord. He was being kind of a drama
queen, his stress way out of proportion to the problems he was facing. I wasn t worried because I
knew things would work out one way or another. I had no idea he was teetering on the edge of sanity.
Only in hindsight can we identify the warning signs we didn t notice at the time.
Haunted by the voicemail messages he left for my daughter Dolly two nights before he died. He said
he d been having a hard time and thought hearing her voice might cheer him up. In reality, he had
already made his plan and was calling to say good bye.
Haunted by the text ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I said to Dolly that we needed to call Uncle Mike after her race because he really wanted to talk to us.
Haunted by the Girls on the Run 5K in Golden Gate Park that morning, the strange voicemail message
from my parents alerting me that something was wrong, the aggressive ass hole who yelled at me and
threatened to sue me because Duncan s dog wouldn t stop barking while Dolly and Duncan were
running in the race, and the foggy notion that maybe I knew what had happened before I called my
parents back because it seems like I did but how could that be possible?
Haunted by the park bench across the road from the de Young Museum in Golden Gate Park where I
called my parents and they told me that Mike was dead, that he had shot himself in the head with a
shotgun. Whether I knew or not, whether I suspected or not, whether I had prepared myself for this
eventuality after two earlier suicide attempts in his teens, no imagining could have ever prepared me
for what it was like when it actually happened. The world opened up and swallowed me

In the technology world, the latest advancement is only as good as the next thing coming down the
line. The auto industry is constantly bringing us new technologies, whether it be for safety,
entertainment, usefulness or simply for pure innovation (Neiger,C.). Unless you re an inveterate
walker or a mass transit rider, you probably spend more time in your car each week than anywhere
except your workplace and your home. It s not always pleasant. Highway gridlock, a fruitless search
for a parking space or a brush with a thundering tractor trailer can rattle all but the most Zen drivers.
Things are about to get better. A ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Next up are cars that can park themselves at the push of a button.
If you believe the hype, it would seem that self driving cars are right around the corner. Google has
been testing them for several years, and states like California and Nevada have authorized them for
use on roads although only with a human behind the wheel. Autonomous driving features, such as
systems that recognize hazards and brake on their own to avoid collisions, are already on the market.
But the fantasy of a car that automatically steers you to work while you read the morning paper or
catch a few extras is still many years away. Autonomous driving is not going to mean jump in the car,
push a button, say Take me to grandma s house and go to sleep, said James Bell, head of consumer
affairs for GM. That may come someday, but not soon.
For decades, most automobile headlights were fairly uncomplicated. They pointed fixedly ahead, with
separate high beams for greater visibility on dark roads. Then came the more energy efficient halogen
and xenon lights and light emitting diodes (LEDs). Now, automakers are pioneering a generation of
smart headlights that can automatically adjust their brightness or direction depending on conditions.
And a coming wave of laser high beams promises to illuminate the road ahead for a third of a mile
twice the range of LED high beam headlights while using less energy. Audi and BMW are racing to be

Social Status Essay
I think that my three most important ascribed social statuses are that I am an American, I am eighteen
years old, and I am a white male. Ascribed social statuses are the social status that a person is assigned
at birth or given later in life. First and foremost, being an American is something that many people
take for granted. We have the chance to obtain a great life that not everyone has the chance at. It has
opened so many doors for me including an education, security, opportunity, and so many more.
Growing up an American has taught me many lessons. I have learned that while not everything is easy,
I could have it much worse off, and I should be grateful for the opportunities that present themselves. I
have also learned not to take anything for granted. I am very blessed with the life I have, but nothing
is guaranteed. You have to enjoy the good things in life, and embrace the hard ones. One more lesson
is that life is full of choices, and the life that you end up with is more or less a result of those choices. I
m not saying that it is a completely fair playing field, but I do believe that everyone generally has the
opportunity at a successful life. The next important ascribed social status is my age. Obviously this is
ever changing as time ticks on, but it has a major influence on how I live my life. Because I am
eighteen years old I am still in school, and I will continue to be in some sort of school for quite some
time. I do not have a quality job, and I still

Sullen peoples, half devil, half child is how the Europeans saw these Aboriginals when they came in contact. The Aboriginals weren t considered people but more so, monsters. They were considered wild and angry. Take up the white man s burden, the savage wars of peace, fill the mouth of Famine and bid the sickness cease . The savage wars of peace are the protests of the colonists in which the Europeans must feel obliged to change their savage ways and end them with so called peace . They must feed their empty stomachs and provide medicine for the colonists as part of their duty. And when your goal is nearest. The end for others sought, watch sloth and heathen Folly. Bring all your hopes to naught . The Europeans must not give up because these sullen peoples are finally getting rid of their savage ways. The end for the half child and half devil is near. Most people enjoy the positive effects that caffeine does to our bodies, but have you ever thought of the negative? Caffeine is a stimulant to the central nervous system and the regular use of it can cause a mild physical dependence. With a dependence being shown I strongly do believe that caffeine is just as addictive as any other drug. Over 90 percent of the United States consumes caffeinated beverages on a daily basis and almost over 50 percent of those people drink more than the recommended amount. Since caffeine is a stimulant and a diuretic it will increase your blood pressure and heart rate by a lot, which is a big no when it comes to pregnancy. You may be able to handle the intake of caffeine that you drink normally per day but can your baby? Numerous studies, tested on animals, have shown birth defects, premature labor, preterm delivery, reduced fertility and an increased risk of low birth weight and more reproductive problems. There were two studies conducted in 2008 that either have or haven t related the effects of drinking high amounts of caffeine relating to miscarriages. Study one, by the American Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology, found that women who drink 200mg or more of caffeinated beverages daily are two times as likely to have a miscarriage than those who do not have any caffeine. The other study, by Epidemiology, showed that there was no risk of such allegations. Due to the conflicting results from the numerous studies the March of Dimes stated that until more conclusive evidence can be shown that mothers to be should limit their caffeine intakes to no more than 200 mg per day. Have you ever stopped drinking coffee or soda for a few days and felt sick days later? That s because you are going through something called a withdrawal. Thus, it plays an important part in everyday life. Notwithstanding, media have a vigorous relation with politics especially among the democratic societies (Fernandez Quijada 2013). Moreover, the media is also perceived as the fourth estate due to the fact that it able to influence and affects the perceptions of the general public towards the political movement (Kemp 2013). Each of these leagues were made up of six teams that played each other up until the Japan Series, as well as the All Star game. Despite the many athletes that Japan has, not very many of them went on to play in the Major League. One major factor that kept Japanese players from playing in the Major League during this time was World War II. The Japanese players felt that they shouldn t leave their country during that time of turmoil, so many of them turned down contracts to play in the majors. In what ways does Mendelian genetics differ from polygenic inheritance? Mendelian genetics differs from polygenic inheritance because one trait is controlled by one gene in specific. There is also a dominant and a recessive. In polygenic inheritance one trait may be controlled by two or more genes. 6. In what ways are the two models of inheritance the same? The many genes that are controlling a polygenic trait are all inherited by Mendelian genetics. While the genes individually contain Mendelian inheritance, the trait itself does not because a vast amount of genes are involved in making it specific. 7. Walker Percy s essay, The Loss of the Creature describes the experiences that each person goes through as either a genuine experience driven by own desires, or one that is already preconceived by experts. Percy describes the loss of sovereignty as preconceived notions of an experience with the help of experts. How might the principles of team building be utilized in my team consisting of end user group (who will occupy the building), facilities operations staff, architect, and contractor or construction manager? The construction industry has utilized a concept called partnering on large projects with the goal of creating a cooperative environment to minimize conflicts which could result in claims or litigation (GSA 2016). Ascribed social statuses are the social status that a person is assigned at birth or given later in life. First and foremost, being an American is something that many people take for granted. We have the chance to obtain a great life that not everyone has the chance at. It has opened so many doors for me including an education, security, opportunity, and so many more. Growing up an American has taught me many lessons. I have learned that while not everything is easy, I could have it much worse off, and I should be grateful for the opportunities that present themselves. I have also learned not to take anything for granted. I am very blessed with the life I have, but nothing is guaranteed. You have to enjoy the good things in life, and embrace the hard ones. One more lesson is that life is full of choices, and the life that you end up with is more or less a result of those choices. I m not saying that it is a completely fair playing field, but I do believe that everyone generally has the opportunity at a successful life. The next important ascribed social status is my age.
