Physical Activity Analysis Report
Research Summary and Critique of Articles Regarding the
Physical Activity of Lower Limb Amputees
Hailey Bajzar
PERLS 207 The first article I chose was a study done in the United States of America, that
investigated the perceived environmental barriers in a population of amputees (Ephraim, MacKenzie,
Wegener, Dillingham, Pezzin, 2006). The study was done to understand and find correlating factors in
how environmental factors were perceived to a range of people and ages with different amputations. A
cross sectional survey was the design for this study, and data was collected through and interview and
a survey. Information about the participants, such as where their amputation was located, how longs
since it occurred, their ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
While their reasoning was understandable, I was curious as to how the results would have changed
had they included it. Their results were from the frequency of their participant s survey answers, while
the researchers looked at different types of physical activity for people with different amputation and
activity levels. Their percentage comparison between groups did have a difference in some areas, but I
question whether it is as great a difference outside the survey. In their tables regarding what would
help the participant engage in physical activity more and barriers that impact them, the percentages
seemed very practical and useful. For example, Littman et al. included that many more participants
said a free or low cost membership would benefit them, while fewer said group exercise class would
encourage them to engage in physical activity (2014). Using group exercise classes to encourage
physical activity seemed to me a major component in increasing or enticing exercise, so the
information that fewer people would prefer it really makes me question that perspective. That
knowledge, as well as the frequented barriers mentioned in the survey, could potentially help those
designing physical activity plans that can be adhered to consistently. The last article I chose was
looking at and researching long term activity for people with a trans femoral amputation. This study
looked at how

Nutrition Report On Food Intake Essay
Food Intake According to my three day food diary report, I demonstrated a diet pattern that truly lacks
a healthy balance of vital nutrients. First of all, my kilocalorie intake nearly quadrupled that of my
dietary reference intake (DRI) range. Secondly, my total lipids reported as considered within my DRI
range. However, it was at the highest allowable percentage. Therefore, had it been one percent higher,
it would have been above my recommended dietary reference intake. Third of all, my carbohydrate
intake revealed drastically surpassed my DRI (although it was within my DRI range, when compared
to my total fat and protein amounts, my carbohydrate percentage displayed immensely greater than the
others). Finally, the results of my protein intake were extremely low compared to my suggested DRI
range. In fact, the percentage was at the lowest allowed for my protein DRI, and was dangerously low
in comparison to my total lipid and carbohydrate percentages. Macronutrients According to Institute
of Medicine (National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine, 2016), macronutrients are
significant to the health (or illness from malnourishment) of humans, because macronutrients are the
sources of nutrients that we rely on the most for energy, growth, and healing, thus, mandatory in
greater amounts. In addition, consuming too few or even excessive intakes of macronutrients
consequently results in negative outcomes on the body, including a myriad of various

Colombia Is No Match For The Darkness

Colombia Proposing Peace The beauty of Colombia is no match for the darkness that hides inside.
Unable to flourish into a country of prosperity that can showcase what nature has given them but a
place tied to the past with violence. Soon The FARC stepped up to shake not only terror into the
government but also the people of Colombia. They have killed and kidnapped locals, tourists and
government officials for decades now they have begun recruiting children in their ranks. For four
years the FARC have been speaking in negotiations with President Santos over the possibility of peace
for everyone. On October 2nd of this year a little bit of half of Colombians voted for no peace with the
FARC (News). The people didn t want to allow a communist group of individuals who have harmed
families, killed their loved ones and go hand in hand with trafficking into their lives. They have
devoted themselves to violence and become a nuisance to the Colombian government. With the
assassination of the Liberal Party presidential candidate Gaitan, who wanted to make Colombia not
only safe but to help the poor as well, it started a chain of events. Creating 10 years of war and
violence La Violencia but forced the government to take action against the protests and the guerilla

government that was only thinking of themselves and

Digital Data And The Internet
In today s society, people tend to operate the majority of their everyday tasks through the internet. It is
really simple, comfortable, and it saves a lot of time. In one hour individual can perform a deposit into
his particular bank account, request a pharmaceutical prescription, apply for a mortgage, pay bills, do
online shopping and more. All it requires a customer to be able to do this is having an account with
any of these company s websites. Creating an account is normally a very manageable process where
the person provides some information and creates a username and a password to be in a position to
return to the website. This data provided by the consumer is called: digital data or digital information,
which is just any kind of information in digital format. Digital data can be public or private, it can be
kept by the medical providers, banks, government, and other organizations; as well as an easily
available on the internet on social media websites, etc. However is our data really secure? Along with
its many advantages, the advancement of technology presents an encompassing examination network
seem almost necessary. We owe enough of the privacy we have experienced in the past to a
combination of immature technology and insufficient labor to monitor us. But these protective
inabilities are giving way to efficiency technologies of data processing and digital surveillance that
threaten to eliminate our privacy. Already we are traced by our credit card transactions,

Government Surveillance
Imagine a world where your every move was being monitored. A dark world where it is no secret who
you are, where you have been and who you associate with; now include who you love, who you pray
to and what you just ate for dinner. The word privacy doesn t exist in such world and it is such world
that we are heading to. Big Brother is watching you! This quote by George Orwell couldn t have been
truer. Every aspect of our lives is being sorted through as Big Data this very moment. Government
surveillance has prevailed by the name of security. But, is government surveillance of internet digital
communications like social networks, cell phone calls, text messages, and emails really a public
service of security? Or ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Government surveillance in the past was not a big threat due to the limitations on technology;
however, in the current day, it has become an immense power for the government. Taylor, author of a
book on Electronic Surveillance supports, A generation ago, when records were tucked away on paper
in manila folders, there was some assurance that such information wouldn t be spread everywhere.
Now, however, our life stories are available at the push of a button (Taylor 111). With more and more
Americans logging into social media cites and using text messaging devices, the more providers of
metadata the government has. In her journal The Virtuous Spy: Privacy as an Ethical Limit , Anita L.
Allen, an expert on privacy law, writes, Contemporary technologies of data collection make secret,
privacy invading surveillance easy and nearly irresistible. For every technology of confidential
personal communication...there are one or more counter technologies of eavesdropping (Allen 1).
Being in the middle of the Digital Age, we have to be much more careful of the kinds of information
we put in our digital devices.
Some Americans may argue that the government surveillance programs target only foreigners, that we,
as Americans, are exempted from this type of scrutiny. They are even reassured by President Barrack

Prosthetic Valve Endocarditis
We read with great interest the paper by Richard van Valen and his colleagues that evaluated patients
with prosthetic valve endocarditis (PVE) due to opportunistic bacterial pathogen Propionibacterium
acnes (P. acnes). The authors should be congratulated for publishing the largest single centre series to
date on the topic, as thus far the literature was dominated by single case reports. We would like to add
some thoughts on the microbiological aspects of PVE caused by this facultative anaerobic species.
Diagnosis of PVE caused by this microorganism is often delayed due to oligosymptomatic and
nonspecific presentation, hence microbiological confirmation is pivotal for adjusting treatment.
Unfortunately, aside for establishing positivity of blood and/or tissue cultures, there is no further
elaboration on the microbiological techniques employed to diagnose P. acnes in this study, probably
due to its retrospective design. It would also be interesting to know the incidence of neurologic
symptoms in this case series of 13 patients, as these are more commonly observed in P. acnes PVE
than in any other type of infective endocarditis (x). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The Impact Of Poverty In The Bean Trees
Families all over the world experience struggles such as poverty that could lead to depression, but if
you have the perseverance like Taylor in The Bean Trees, you can successfully survive in society.
Taylor deals with some of the worst situations a person could have thrown at them, but she manages to
deal with these issues, while providing for herself and her child. Many families all over America
experience poverty, and the ones who are most affected are the children.
The impact of poverty on families can affect a child s growth and development. Poverty and the
Effects on parents and Children, Nagel states, Families in poverty, when parents are working, are
influenced by the kind of occupations in which the parents work. Kohn has found that lower class
parents look at their children s behavior with a focus on its immediate consequences and its external
characteristics, whereas middle class parents explore their children s motives and the attitudes
expressed by their behavior. Growing up with negative and disciplinary parents, it can impact a child s
moral and emotional growth through life. Children grow up by the examples and actions of their
progenitor, and if they have meager parents then they may grow up to be just like them. Another study
conducted by the U.S. Department of Education found that for every year a child spends in poverty,
there is the chance that the child will fall behind grade level by age 18. Pupils that live in poverty that

Private Vlan Must Be Made Of Primary Vlans
private VLAN must be made of primary VLANs, which will contain promiscuous ports and secondary

VLANs are used on only one site for the purposes of discovery and adjacency maintenance between
edge devices (Santana, 2014, p. 358). 7. Voice VLAN: This VLAN is exclusively for Voice over IP
(VoIP). The network must be customized for this traffic by having adequate bandwidth, giving the
VoIP traffic precedence over other network traffic, and minimal delay (Cisco, 2014, Section 3.1.1.4).
b. VRF VRF stands for Virtual Routing and Forwarding (Santana, 2014, p. 89). This technology
allows the router to run more than one routing instance at a time, saving money on equipment and
increasing efficiency. It also separates the traffic on the router automatically on the device, which
increases security for the network (Patterson, 2009, para. 1). c. Data segmentation: Methods of
Network Segmentation Network segmentation is dividing parts of a network for performance and
security purposes (Cordray, 2015, para. 2). Companies need to separate departments based on the
security levels of the employees within those departments to ensure that no employee can access
information that they do not need. Segmentation is also done to provide security from outside attacks
by setting up a number of boundaries the attacker would have to go through to reach confidential data
(Peterson, 2016, Section 2).

Class Conflict In The Roman Government
What relationship did class conflict have with the emergence of more popular forms of government
(e.g. democracy in Greece, and republicanism in Rome) in the classical period? Did class conflict also
affect the collapse of these government forms?
The Roman Empire also known as the Byzantine Empire, was on of the wealthiest and most fluent
civilizations in history. The structure of the class system throughout Roman history changed gradually
in a way that also changed the form and structure of the government. The government over the time of
the start, flourishment of end of this civilization ranged from a monarchy to a republic and eventually
to an empire. While the structure of class lead to the downfall of a monarchy and uprising of a
republic; the class system also led to the downfall of the republic as well. Also, Ancient greece, from
where we have the class conflict would change the way in which the government would function.

Bob thought that the parcel of land would be large enough to build a shopping center with as much as

payment to lease the parcel of land for the expected 20 year life of the project.
Bob thought the amount retailers in the shopping center would be willing to pay per square meter of
floor space would be a decreasing function of the total size of the shopping center. Bob did some
initial work estimating the likely relationship between what tenants would be willing to pay for retail
space and the size of the shopping center. Specifically, he thought there was a 50% chance the true
relationship would be: r = 60 0.001s and a 50% chance that the true relationship would be r = 50
0.001s where r is the rental rate per square meter of floor space and s is the total size of the shopping
center in square meters. Furthermore, Bob was going to assume that once the shopping center had
been built, the realized relationship between r and s would remain unchanged for the next 20 years.
Bob was planning to ignore discount rates and the time value of money in his initial evaluation of the
project. He was going to treat all of the project s costs and benefits equally no matter when they

Organizations like Amazon store realized that attaining long term customer value through delivery of
quality services is the key to their existence. Also, be alert to the customer s needs and wants, because

Position and benefits of customer‐driven
Benchmarking is a great starting point. However, in some cases the performance comparison do not
uncover the real scope of the challenge of practical leadership and effectiveness. It can take to an
unproductive analysis in the competitive gap identified. Furthermore, it can lead to the development of
capabilities that can help to beat the existed and forthcoming competition (Shamma Hassan, 2013).
Amazon s excellence depends in the attention the leadership keep on customers and maintain the best
practice in all aspects of the business. The company knows that thanks to the customers they had

that all company decisions should be conducted based on the customer s desires and wishes.

Wild Style is a hip hop film that was produced by Charlies Ahearm in 1983. This movie is considered
to be one of the most influential films in a hip hop history, because it is the first hip hop motion
picture and has main elements of hip hop in it. After the soundtracks of the movie had been released,
people started to know more about a culture of hip hop. The movie plot also makes it even more
interesting. This movie travels back in time to the period that hip hop was not well known and was
among a small group of people. Zoro is the New York City boy who has a passion for hip hop culture,
especially graffiti. Even though other people disagree with his decision, Zero still tries to prove his
belief when he is hired to paint a stage on a hip hop concert event. The several elements of hip hop are
seen in this movie and are all interacted as he says [Graffiti artist] makes those letter dance (2). In this
paper, I will illustrate how Wild Style shows the interconnection of two main hip hop s elements that
are mostly involved in this film: graffiti and breakdancing. First of all, graffiti is a hip hop s element
that can be seen throughout the film. As a matter of fact, we first see it in a very beginning of the film.

The Effect Of String Function On An Accidental Of A...
One does not need to use words to convey a message. Dots and lines on a page can convey emotion
just as well, if not better. Music can fill in the context where words cannot. The simple switch between
major to minor, an accidental of a natural or a flat can easily show the motion of a piece.
As a cellist for over six years, I wanted to understand the fundamental idea of why notes were audible.
I asked myself, why do I press down on certain parts of the strings on a cello to produce certain notes?
How are sound waves calculated? With these two questions in mind, I dove in with the desire to apply
a different perspective of music.
Diagram 1
One of the earliest discoveries of how string function comes from the Greek philosopher, Pythagoras.
The wavelength and pinches between strings are what differentiate the varying notes. As shown in
Diagram 1, the wavelengths have specific spacing in between, which are directly related to
mathematics. Nodes, or pinches, are strategically and mathematically placed to resonate precise
pitches, and particular ratios are able to be derived from these intervals. For example, an octave
describes two notes that are eight notes apart. In order to create the perfect first octave, the string is
pinched into perfect halves, making the mathematical ratio , as 2 parts are created from the whole with
one pinch. By pinching the string in half, the frequency becomes twice as fast , producing a higher
tone of the same note. One octave higher than an A

Birth Control Is A Powerful Tool
Birth control is a powerful tool. It gives women the power to choose when they are ready to have a

René Descartes, often referred to as the father of modern philosophy, first questioned this idea. The
17th century French philosopher stood out for being an intense rationalist. Rationalism is the belief in
knowledge by thinking reasonably, rather than emotionally. In a time when many philosophers backed
up their arguments with religion, Descartes trusted in nothing more than logic. Due to rapid new
discoveries in science, that were proving many old theories to be wrong, Descartes believed
philosophy needed a fresh start. This fresh start would ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Descartes decides to try to build his foundation on this notion of ridding himself of bias opinions and
allowing himself to fall into a whirlpool of doubt. He receives this idea by reminiscing on past beliefs
that he once believed were right, but are now proven to be wrong. For example, children believe in
Santa Claus, but later find out that he is not real. Descartes goal was to find something he could deem
as undoubtedly true. To do this, he set up three ways to doubt that will help discover if we indeed
exist. On his quest for certainty around the question as to whether we exist, Descartes began by
observing that our human senses are deeply unreliable. He begins by stating, Surely whatever I had
admitted until now as most true I received either from the senses or through the senses (60). He then
goes on to say, However, I have noticed that the senses are sometimes deceptive; and it is a mark of
prudence never to place our complete trust in those who have deceived us even once (60). His aim in
this argument is to show that our knowledge through the senses is open to doubt because in the past
our senses have fooled us. Descartes, living in the time of booming modern science, observed that our
senses have been wrong countless of times. For example, many believed that the earth was flat due to
our sense of sight. One could not see past the horizon, therefore the earth must be level with our
eyesight. Science then proved this

Women and the Media
The Perfect Female Body:
Long before beauty pageants, Barbie dolls, and extra ordinarily beautiful girls, came about the idea of
the female body. Whether you are a believer of creationalism, scientology, or evolutionism, somehow
we all came about with the perception of the perfect female. Women have always been seen, and
portrayed as a sex symbol, and usually the disobedient one. Dating back to B.C and the story of Adam
and Eve, Eve was the naked one who bit into the fruit that god told her was forbidden. Why couldn t it
have been Adam that caused such scandal, and was the cause for destruction, and crime in the world,
and not Eve? From the believed beginning of time, to present day, women have really only progressed

Everyday of their lives, people are bombarded with advertisements pushing to sell them something, or
broadcasting a new and upcoming television program. The average American sees as many as 300 500
advertisements per day. Some see as many as 1,200 a day. (Jean Kilbourne, Ed. D.) General media is
tied with public relations, and has become a source of entertainment to the public eye. Women are
usually seen as eye candy, to attract the male heterosexual audience. Men and woman are usually
portrayed in different ways, on national television, and Hollywood films. Men usually play the tough
guy, macho man roles, while the women are predominately represented as white, young, glamorous,
heterosexual, and less influential then men. (Campbell and Carilli, 2005) Attractive women are usually
displayed in both male and female advertisements, and play a double role. Women will think that if
they purchase this product, they will resemble the model advertising the product, and the men are
tricked to think that if they purchase the product, that they will attract women like the ones advertising
the product. This is the sex sells propaganda tactic. Models in the advertisements aren t supposed to
look like the average, ordinary people. To sell products, advertisers use computer generation tools, to
erase any flaws, to appeal to a consumer. The goals of print media are usually reached, and out to
target the younger audience. According to a survey conducted on

Rhetorical Analysis Of John F. Kennedy s Moral Address
During the 1960s, John F. Kennedy gave a speech to America that the world would never forget. At
the end of a highly competitive election, Kennedy used this very speech to commemorate his
presidential election. He lectured the audience with his speech which would be reminisced for
centuries to come. The speech is so renowned for its since of duty and how powerful it is. He uses a
strong appeal to not only his own ethics, but the whole country s ethics united. Kennedy uses
emotional argument to persuade the listeners to take a defensive stand and change their country.
Furthermore, he appeals to the whole world when he refers to different areas of the globe while also
uniting all human beings as one population. Throughout the inaugural address, Kennedy joins the
American people as a country demonstrates how they can become one population. He relates them
with their call to duty that relies on the ethics and morals of himself and the audience. Kennedy uses
logical argument with incredible imagery and emotions throughout the speech which allows his call to
action to be even greater in bonding America as one. Kennedys goal for his speech is to have it be
used as a call to a since of duty to unite all of his audience. During the time there were many issues.
There were threats to freedom, existence of poverty and misery, and very little peace. Kennedy felt
that he had a duty to change that. Kennedy wanted his inauguration to be the beginning of a change,

Adversity Negative Effects
Intro: Adversity; misfortune, disaster and trauma. We have seen adversity on both the major and minor
levels of the past, present and in fiction. We often see in all aspects the negatives that adversity leads
to. So this begs the question, does adversity lead to growth? We see adversity from the Columbian
exchange through growing populations and new technology. In the New York Times article by Andrew
E. Kramer, one reads about the financial growth Russia faces after a long time of recession. Likewise,
in Catherine Hyde s Pay it Forward One will read about the emotional and mental growth people have
after Trevor dies which essentially causes the movement to flourish. We see adversity everywhere in
life, and although there are many negative consequences that go along with adversity, eventually, it
will lead to development and a rise in success.
The Columbian exchange had many moving parts to it, however, a largely known negative impact was
the massive fatalities diseases spread by trade and exploration had on both Europeans and native
societies; these massive epidemics slowly brought growth to the world. The Columbian Exchange by
Alfred W. Crosby, is an article that shows the statistics and impacts that the Columbian exchange had
on those who lived during it, as well as the people who came generations after. Crosby explains how
these diseases impacted Native Americans by saying,Qte 1: Smallpox was the worst and most
spectacular of the infectious diseases mowing down the

Judicial Overhaul
If the opportunity to implement a new judicial body were to arise, there would be a great deal of
components required to formulate a new judicial body. Drawing from different states in America, a
conglomerate of components would be called into service to draft this new body. The states in
question that will be used in this reformat will be the states of, Florida, Texas, and Illinois. These
states contain a simplified and durable judicial hierarchy. Successful implementation of these ideals
are very likely if they were to occur.

This island has gone through a great deal of conflict over time. While the land inspires a serine bliss,
there is a great deal of political history that has reconstituted Puerto Ricos destiny as an isle, and as

Reflecting on The Hindu Temple of Greater Chicago
The purpose of this paper is to provide a reflection on the field trip to the Hindu Temple of Greater
Chicago. After a brief Introduction to the Context, the Watercress tool will be used to highlight my
observations. In our study of the Hinduism, the class visited The Hindu Temple of Greater Chicago
(HTGC). This active temple is a house of worship that serves thousands of devotees as they pay
hamage to a diverse variuety of Idol and spiritual gods. Taughted as one of the oldest religions in the
world, it accepts all religious belief systems and God. In fact, the Temple is designed to accommodate
any and many gods to include the practices and rites of the devotees. Our volunteer tour guide

When using the Rituals portion of the WTR CRESS , The temple devotees pratices numerous rituals
to honor their particular god. Some ran in circles, some left fruit and rice, some bowed, laid prostrate,
or did push ups. Moreover, some had tattooes or some kind of inking on their face and forehead. Some
where dressed in a kind of silk robe. When asked about the color and care of the idols, the guide told
us the gods had to be cared for similar to the devotees. They had to be cleaned, dressed, provided
food, and other such things. Additionally, he commented the gods resemble their devotees, which
explained the various colors. The only exception would be the blue colored idols. When using the
Communication portion of the WTR CRESS, the discursive communication was observed through the
various rituals, rites, and practices performed by the devotees. In some cases devotees ran several
times around the idol and in other cases they would burn incense and other items in hopes of sending
up prayers via smoke to Parabrahma. Though I am not sure about the correlation between the burning
material and the devotees prayer, one for one or more, it was evident that a certain amount of items
were burned for each prayer. Non Discursive could be felt in the reverence for each and every god.
Particularly when someone would first enter the temple and rang the bell. The guide commented the

Lennie and George Relationship in Steinbeck s Novel Essay
In this chapter of the novel, Steinbeck uses a lot of visual elements, strong dialect,
symbolism, tone and theme. Much of these elements are shown right from the beginning of
the chapter when the two men, Lennie and George arrive at the bunk house. Right from the
first sentence, the tone and imagery is already set off by introducing the walls [being]
whitewashed and the floor unpainted.(p17) In addition, he also introduces the bunks, also
re enforcing the tone since the bunks are described as ...burlap sack of straw that was a
mattress.(p18) At this point, George is realizing that not only does he have challenges by
dealing with George, but he also has to live in this environment where things are not ... Show more

In addition to the theme of disposability, the theme
of social isolation is also quite apparent. For example, when the boss was getting suspicious of George
answering all of Lennies questions by commenting that Lennie [wasn t] much of a
talker, is he?(p21) and also by asking then why don t you let him answer? What are you trying
put over?(p21) If the boss found out then the truth about Lennie, he would have immediately
asked them to leave. Furthermore, the theme of social isolation is vividly displayed with Crooks,
just because of his skin color, gives the boss rights to give the stable buck hell (p19) whenever
he is upset at something.
The whole message Steinbeck is trying to convey through this chapter in the novel is
basically this ranch is like a mini society. Anyone in this society can hold power, and when they
get into that position of power over others, they use it in irresponsible ways. For example even
though the boss is the top of the social heirchy, his son Curley seems to have more power over
the workers there than he does. Also, because of his position in the social pyramid , Curley can
tangle with any one of the workers without any troubles, however if Lennie, for example,

Critique Of Piano Critique
For my piano critique, I went to see Sean Cavanaugh with accompaniment of Dominic Muzzi, play
Ludwig van Beethoven s Concerto No. 1 in C Major, Op. 15. This recital was performed on campus,
in Recital Hall November 6, 2017 at 8:30pm. Both Cavanaugh and Muzzi performed their portion of
the piece on the piano.
Cavanaugh was the lead pianist, so he had the piano closer to the audience while Muzzi was farther
back. Something that I found interesting, was that Muzzi was dressed in all dark colors, while
Cavanaugh wore a white collared shirt. This choice in outfit definitely drew the audience s attention to
Cavanaugh as the lead pianist, while helping Muzzi blend into the background. This denotation of
Cavanaugh as the lead was continued in the bows, where Cavanaugh would always stand partially in
front of Muzzi.
Both pianist performed very well together. I noticed that they would give each other nonverbal cues
like nods or glances to indicate when they were finishing their part or when the other should respond.
This communication served really well, as both pianists complimented each other and timed their
playing near perfectly.
Cavanaugh was very animated while playing. His head would bob with the music and during the
dramatic low notes of the music, sometimes he would play those with his whole body, coming up
slightly off the chair to add to the force of the sound. Muzzi would also bob his head along to the
music, but not nearly as energetically as Cavanaugh did.

The Quality Of Education For Tanzanians Children
In general, what is at stake is not the description of the population numbers, but concerns about the
quality of education for Tanzanians children. Honestly, the growing number of children in Tanzania as
(Woods, 2009) alerts, is a clarion call for the country, not only to invest in education, but also
excessively in other public services. Comparable to other poor countries as Jeffrey Sachs and Easterly
(2006) highlighted, the poor people live entangled in inadequacy, in which taking to account the
global abuse of children, poor wellbeing, learning, and poor arrangement reinforce one another (p. 10
). It is incontestable that children are the eyes of the future of any nation, consequently financing
beyond their education quality would be the ultimate investment for their development. This is to say,
parents, teachers, and communities need to ensure the safety of children and monitor what they learn
in classrooms, while paying a distinctive attention to the marginalized children likely to be victims of
quality education and exclusion.

Persuasive Essay On School Shootings
School shootings strike into the heart of every American. The thought of innocent students, young
with limitless potential, being mercilessly mowed down wrenches one s heart. Yet these events
continue to happen. What could possibly drive a person to commit such a horrifying act? That single
question has created a fierce debate over the causes of school shootings and what should be done to
stop them. The many possible causes include lax gun control laws, poor mental health services,
poverty, culture, psychological thresholds, and even masculinity. They touch on sensitive political
issues that cause intense division. This divisiveness has prevented any federal action from being taken
to directly address the problem. However, it is important to set aside differences and to act in a
pragmatic manner. Although some may not like it, it is clear that the increasing number of school
shootings in the US is caused by a combination of weak gun control laws, and toxic masculinity. Guns
are created to kill. They have been used in many mass shootings and in overwhelming cases, in school
shootings. The crowdedness of school campuses make them lethal. It is also no secret that the United
States is the wild west when it comes to guns. According to Samantha Gupta from the Harvard
Political Review, American civilians own an astounding 270 million guns, more than the civilians of
the 21 other countries that had school shootings own combined. That is enough guns to give 84% of
the population one each. This is caused by lax gun control laws and the loopholes that exist within
them. The failure of the US government to implement universal background checks and bans on
certain types of guns and ammunitions have allowed potentially dangerous people access to lethal
weapons. And these people wreak havoc. From Gupta again, Out of all these countries that have
experienced a school shooting in the given time period, the average number of school shootings per
firearm per capita is 0.111; America s average is over five times higher.
Often, detractors will point to countries like Switzerland that have high levels of gun ownership yet
have almost no school shootings. While the Swiss do have many guns, they are not allowed to possess

“Why Byzantine Economy Remained One of the Most Powerful...
Why Byzantine economy remained one of the most powerful in Europe through Early Middle Ages?
The Byzantine cconomy was one of the largest systems throughout Europe and the Mediterannean for
many centuries. Both local and international trade were of huge importance for the Byzantine Empire.
Lower class, including traders, depended on the upper class. Their need of the foreign goods in order
to stay in Local trade was much less popular. Throughout the fourth and sixth centuries, long distance
trade was operating successfully, until the plague appeared, which killed around one third of the

The Byzantines considered land a common resource, not to be bought or sold, but it is valuable only if
the men were invesing in it. The biggest loss of the inhabitants and land was in 541 due to the plague,
where Constantinopole lost 40 % of its inhabitants. It affected both cities and countryside, as well as
the routes of trading and communication, and significantly shrank the economic production. In the 9th
century after the plague, peace was slowly reestablished and territories started to increase (Bryer 101

From the other side, Constantinople was presented as a very wealthy capital which served as
propaganda for the foreigners that came to visit it, as well as for their own citizens. Constantinopole
was fully decorated with the foreign imported material such as silk or gold. The 10th century was one
of the most powerful in the Byzantine Empire history, and through that period, Constantinopole was
the biggest centre of the international trade, with merchants mostly from Italy, Syria, and Bulgaria. In
the middle of the 10th century international trade with Muslims became very popular, while in the
11th and 12th century economy of exchange took place. Before the ninth and tenth century, Arabs

grain. The shipping was important for the international trade, so

Cover Songs Comparison
In the music industry, it is not uncommon for original songs to be rerecorded and altered by other
artists resulting in what is known as a cover song. One example of this situations occurrence can be
seen in Vance Joy s indie folk pop song, Riptide , that was famously covered by pop and country
crossover artist, Taylor Swift. Overall, there are many factors that go into the relationship between an
original and cover song and the artists of each song. Such as both artist s connection to the song and
the relationship between the artists themselves. There are also differences between the original and
cover songs themselves including song structure, instrumentation, vocals, lyrics, and lyrical meaning.
Vance Joy and Taylor Swift met for the first time backstage in New York at the Late Night Show with
David Letterman (Whitney). By the time for their first meeting, Swift had already covered Joy s hit

Chivalry Vs Chivalry
Chivalry it is a word everyone has heard at least once in their lifetime. The word is no longer used to
describe brave knights who fought for the love of their loyal ladies. Over hundreds of years and many
lifestyle changes, chivalry has shifted and morphed into something new to fit the current generation.
Chivalry changed over the ages from lifestyle and technology developments, as well as comparing the
Medieval version of chivalry to the more modern aspect of it that we have now.
One of the most important things to be addressed is the definition of a few keywords: chivalry and
knight. Chivalry, is defined as the Medieval knightly system with a religious, moral and, social code.
Knights had a very strict code to obey known as The Code of Chivalry. A knight is somebody who
served someone of a higher power, usually a lord, king, or queen. They were trained from a young age
and served in a military capacity, usually on horseback or on foot.
Most of the sources used were books, simply because there were few valuable websites to use. One of
the books, titled Knight by Robert Jones had a fair amount of important information. There s also a
youtube video thrown in as well. Many sources who had similar information, but each had a different
perspective.
Before the comparison battle can begin, we must learn of the now ancient background of the knightly
system and how it came to be. The biggest contributor and kick start of knighthood was Duke William
of Normandy. After the

Organizations need ideas, energy, and talent; people need careers, salaries, and opportunities. Political
views organization as a complex web of individual and group interests. Symbolic embodies and
express an organizations culture: the interwoven pattern of beliefs, values, practices, and artifacts that
define for members who they are and how they are to do things (Bolman Deal, 2003). The leadership
component concentrates on the principals role in executing the strategic plan. Phase I (symbolic) will
focus on a needs assessment of the school. Phase II (structural) aligns the planning and development
around the needs of the school. Phase III (human resource) covers the implementation of the areas
covered in the planning and development stage. Phase IV (political) is centered on the accountability
component. Leadership
Leadership is vital to the effectiveness of a school. James Burns, the founder of modern leadership
theory discusses the ideal of transformational leadership. Transformational leaders form a relationship
of mutual stimulation and elevation that converts followers into leaders and leaders into moral agents

Conte Poem Analysis Essay
Lenae Gomez
ENG 110.3
Professor Unger
February 11, 2013
Au Contraire In Conte by Marilyn Hacker, Cinderella shows the reader a glimpse of her life after the
childhood tale ends, a less happier ending than the original story implies. She feels trapped in a
constant state of misery and boredom in the royal palace. Without life experience guiding her,
Cinderella is in a dilemma caused by her ignorance of the potential consequences of her actions. With
the use of irony, structure, and diction, Conte shows how innocence and naïveté result in regrettable
mistakes that create life experience. The poem deviates from the basic fairy tale through the use of
ironic predicaments. Cinderella makes a bold statement from the beginning: ... Show more content on

The poem is in free verse with no meter and consists of twenty eight lines in one big stanza. The poem
has all the elements of a letter with the most conclusive evidence being at the end of the poem: Yours,
C (28). A letter is a personal form of writing and gives the reader an inside perspective into Cinderella
s palace life. Most of the sentences are declarative sentences, making the exceptions more obvious in
the poem. One of the exceptions is found on lines 17 and 18, where the sentence ends in an
exclamation point: Why not throw it all up, live on the coast / and fish, no, no, impossible with wives!
The exclamation point emphasizes the idea that she feels trapped in her situation as a wife. She wants
to find a way out of her misery. On lines 20 and 21 there is a question mark on each line: or cut my
hair, teach (what?) little girls / and live at home with you? Cinderella reiterates that her options are
limited because of her minimal experience in the world. Conte uses a couple parentheses within mid
sentence. Cinderella uses the parentheses to convey deeper explanation of her thoughts. For example,
Cinderella writes, Ladies / ignore me, or tell me all their petty secrets / (petty because they can t attend
meetings) / about this man or that (4 7). She does not censor her meaning of petty. Her true feelings
show in the letter and validate the rough situation that Cinderella is stuck in. At the end, Cinderella
asks her

existence and, in many ways, sets the pattern for the genre, neatly fitting the definition of a primary
epic (that is, one that grows out of oral tradition).
In The Odyssey, Homer employs most of the literary and poetic devices associated with epics:
catalogs, digressions, long speeches, journeys or quests, various trials or tests of the hero, similes,
metaphors, and divine intervention.
Homer composed The Odyssey in a meter known as dactylic hexameter, which gives the epic its
elevated style. Each line has six metrical feet. The first five feet may be made up of either dactyls
and/or spondees. A dactyl is a metrical foot consisting of a long sound followed by two short sounds
(BEEEEAT beat beat). A spondee has two long sounds (BEEEEAT BEEEEAT).

Theoretical Perspectives That Define Social Psychology
Introduction
Social psychology is the study of the nature and causes of human social behavior. There are five main
theoretical perspectives that define social psychology. Role, cognitive, symbolic interaction,
evolutionary, and reinforcement theory are the five theoretical perspectives that help understand
human social behavior. However, each theoretical perspective examines different approaches and play
different roles in social psychology. Some of the theories that make up social psychology take a micro
level approach and emphasize the importance of meanings, interactions, socialization and the
development of the self.
Role theory explains how individuals play roles in their daily lives. It is composed of both macro level
and micro level approaches. Unlike role theory, cognitive theory states that an individual s thinking
process influences their social behavior. Cognitive theory is a biological approach to sociology.
Symbolic interaction theory describes how social structure and social behaviors are formed through
symbols, language, and social interaction. A symbolic interaction theory is a micro level approach.
The evolutionary theory is a biological approach to sociology that not only deals with physical
evolution, but also focuses on the traits that are passed on from generation to generation to show how
it shapes their social behavior. Lastly reinforcement theory is a micro level approach that focuses on
how social behavior is influenced through the use of

  • 2. Physical Activity Analysis Report Research Summary and Critique of Articles Regarding the Physical Activity of Lower Limb Amputees Hailey Bajzar PERLS 207 The first article I chose was a study done in the United States of America, that investigated the perceived environmental barriers in a population of amputees (Ephraim, MacKenzie, Wegener, Dillingham, Pezzin, 2006). The study was done to understand and find correlating factors in how environmental factors were perceived to a range of people and ages with different amputations. A cross sectional survey was the design for this study, and data was collected through and interview and a survey. Information about the participants, such as where their amputation was located, how longs since it occurred, their ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... While their reasoning was understandable, I was curious as to how the results would have changed had they included it. Their results were from the frequency of their participant s survey answers, while the researchers looked at different types of physical activity for people with different amputation and activity levels. Their percentage comparison between groups did have a difference in some areas, but I question whether it is as great a difference outside the survey. In their tables regarding what would help the participant engage in physical activity more and barriers that impact them, the percentages seemed very practical and useful. For example, Littman et al. included that many more participants said a free or low cost membership would benefit them, while fewer said group exercise class would encourage them to engage in physical activity (2014). Using group exercise classes to encourage physical activity seemed to me a major component in increasing or enticing exercise, so the information that fewer people would prefer it really makes me question that perspective. That knowledge, as well as the frequented barriers mentioned in the survey, could potentially help those designing physical activity plans that can be adhered to consistently. The last article I chose was looking at and researching long term activity for people with a trans femoral amputation. This study looked at how ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Nutrition Report On Food Intake Essay Food Intake According to my three day food diary report, I demonstrated a diet pattern that truly lacks a healthy balance of vital nutrients. First of all, my kilocalorie intake nearly quadrupled that of my dietary reference intake (DRI) range. Secondly, my total lipids reported as considered within my DRI range. However, it was at the highest allowable percentage. Therefore, had it been one percent higher, it would have been above my recommended dietary reference intake. Third of all, my carbohydrate intake revealed drastically surpassed my DRI (although it was within my DRI range, when compared to my total fat and protein amounts, my carbohydrate percentage displayed immensely greater than the others). Finally, the results of my protein intake were extremely low compared to my suggested DRI range. In fact, the percentage was at the lowest allowed for my protein DRI, and was dangerously low in comparison to my total lipid and carbohydrate percentages. Macronutrients According to Institute of Medicine (National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine, 2016), macronutrients are significant to the health (or illness from malnourishment) of humans, because macronutrients are the sources of nutrients that we rely on the most for energy, growth, and healing, thus, mandatory in greater amounts. In addition, consuming too few or even excessive intakes of macronutrients consequently results in negative outcomes on the body, including a myriad of various ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Prosthetic Valve Endocarditis We read with great interest the paper by Richard van Valen and his colleagues that evaluated patients with prosthetic valve endocarditis (PVE) due to opportunistic bacterial pathogen Propionibacterium acnes (P. acnes). The authors should be congratulated for publishing the largest single centre series to date on the topic, as thus far the literature was dominated by single case reports. We would like to add some thoughts on the microbiological aspects of PVE caused by this facultative anaerobic species. Diagnosis of PVE caused by this microorganism is often delayed due to oligosymptomatic and nonspecific presentation, hence microbiological confirmation is pivotal for adjusting treatment. Unfortunately, aside for establishing positivity of blood and/or tissue cultures, there is no further elaboration on the microbiological techniques employed to diagnose P. acnes in this study, probably due to its retrospective design. It would also be interesting to know the incidence of neurologic symptoms in this case series of 13 patients, as these are more commonly observed in P. acnes PVE than in any other type of infective endocarditis (x). ... • 18. The Effect Of String Function On An Accidental Of A... One does not need to use words to convey a message. Dots and lines on a page can convey emotion just as well, if not better. Music can fill in the context where words cannot. The simple switch between major to minor, an accidental of a natural or a flat can easily show the motion of a piece. As a cellist for over six years, I wanted to understand the fundamental idea of why notes were audible. I asked myself, why do I press down on certain parts of the strings on a cello to produce certain notes? How are sound waves calculated? With these two questions in mind, I dove in with the desire to apply a different perspective of music. Diagram 1 One of the earliest discoveries of how string function comes from the Greek philosopher, Pythagoras. The wavelength and pinches between strings are what differentiate the varying notes. As shown in Diagram 1, the wavelengths have specific spacing in between, which are directly related to mathematics. Nodes, or pinches, are strategically and mathematically placed to resonate precise pitches, and particular ratios are able to be derived from these intervals. For example, an octave describes two notes that are eight notes apart. In order to create the perfect first octave, the string is pinched into perfect halves, making the mathematical ratio , as 2 parts are created from the whole with one pinch. By pinching the string in half, the frequency becomes twice as fast , producing a higher tone of the same note. One octave higher than an A ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Rationalism is the belief in knowledge by thinking reasonably, rather than emotionally. He receives this idea by reminiscing on past beliefs that he once believed were right, but are now proven to be wrong. For example, children believe in Santa Claus, but later find out that he is not real. Descartes goal was to find something he could deem as undoubtedly true. To do this, he set up three ways to doubt that will help discover if we indeed exist. On his quest for certainty around the question as to whether we exist, Descartes began by observing that our human senses are deeply unreliable. He begins by stating, Surely whatever I had admitted until now as most true I received either from the senses or through the senses (60). He then goes on to say, However, I have noticed that the senses are sometimes deceptive; and it is a mark of prudence never to place our complete trust in those who have deceived us even once (60). His aim in this argument is to show that our knowledge through the senses is open to doubt because in the past our senses have fooled us. Descartes, living in the time of booming modern science, observed that our senses have been wrong countless of times. For example, many believed that the earth was flat due to our sense of sight. Likewise, in Catherine Hyde s Pay it Forward One will read about the emotional and mental growth people have after Trevor dies which essentially causes the movement to flourish. We see adversity everywhere in life, and although there are many negative consequences that go along with adversity, eventually, it will lead to development and a rise in success. The Columbian exchange had many moving parts to it, however, a largely known negative impact was the massive fatalities diseases spread by trade and exploration had on both Europeans and native societies; these massive epidemics slowly brought growth to the world. The Columbian Exchange by Alfred W. Crosby, is an article that shows the statistics and impacts that the Columbian exchange had on those who lived during it, as well as the people who came generations after. Crosby explains how these diseases impacted Native Americans by saying,Qte 1: Smallpox was the worst and most spectacular of the infectious diseases mowing down the ... After a brief Introduction to the Context, the Watercress tool will be used to highlight my observations. In our study of the Hinduism, the class visited The Hindu Temple of Greater Chicago (HTGC). This active temple is a house of worship that serves thousands of devotees as they pay hamage to a diverse variuety of Idol and spiritual gods. Taughted as one of the oldest religions in the world, it accepts all religious belief systems and God. In fact, the Temple is designed to accommodate any and many gods to include the practices and rites of the devotees. Our volunteer tour guide explained the Hindu theology in lthis way. ... Some ran in circles, some left fruit and rice, some bowed, laid prostrate, or did push ups. Moreover, some had tattooes or some kind of inking on their face and forehead. Some where dressed in a kind of silk robe. When asked about the color and care of the idols, the guide told us the gods had to be cared for similar to the devotees. They had to be cleaned, dressed, provided food, and other such things. Additionally, he commented the gods resemble their devotees, which explained the various colors. The only exception would be the blue colored idols. When using the Communication portion of the WTR CRESS, the discursive communication was observed through the various rituals, rites, and practices performed by the devotees. In some cases devotees ran several times around the idol and in other cases they would burn incense and other items in hopes of sending up prayers via smoke to Parabrahma. Though I am not sure about the correlation between the burning material and the devotees prayer, one for one or more, it was evident that a certain amount of items were burned for each prayer. Non Discursive could be felt in the reverence for each and every god. Particularly when someone would first enter the temple and rang the bell. • 27. Lennie and George Relationship in Steinbeck s Novel Essay In this chapter of the novel, Steinbeck uses a lot of visual elements, strong dialect, symbolism, tone and theme. Much of these elements are shown right from the beginning of the chapter when the two men, Lennie and George arrive at the bunk house. Right from the first sentence, the tone and imagery is already set off by introducing the walls [being] whitewashed and the floor unpainted.(p17) In addition, he also introduces the bunks, also re enforcing the tone since the bunks are described as ...burlap sack of straw that was a mattress.(p18) At this point, George is realizing that not only does he have challenges by dealing with George, but he also has to live in this environment where things are not ... For example, when the boss was getting suspicious of George answering all of Lennies questions by commenting that Lennie [wasn t] much of a talker, is he?(p21) and also by asking then why don t you let him answer? What are you trying put over?(p21) If the boss found out then the truth about Lennie, he would have immediately asked them to leave. Furthermore, the theme of social isolation is vividly displayed with Crooks, just because of his skin color, gives the boss rights to give the stable buck hell (p19) whenever he is upset at something. The whole message Steinbeck is trying to convey through this chapter in the novel is basically this ranch is like a mini society. This recital was performed on campus, in Recital Hall November 6, 2017 at 8:30pm. Both Cavanaugh and Muzzi performed their portion of the piece on the piano. Cavanaugh was the lead pianist, so he had the piano closer to the audience while Muzzi was farther back. Something that I found interesting, was that Muzzi was dressed in all dark colors, while Cavanaugh wore a white collared shirt. This choice in outfit definitely drew the audience s attention to Cavanaugh as the lead pianist, while helping Muzzi blend into the background. This denotation of Cavanaugh as the lead was continued in the bows, where Cavanaugh would always stand partially in front of Muzzi. Both pianist performed very well together. I noticed that they would give each other nonverbal cues like nods or glances to indicate when they were finishing their part or when the other should respond. This communication served really well, as both pianists complimented each other and timed their playing near perfectly. Cavanaugh was very animated while playing. His head would bob with the music and during the dramatic low notes of the music, sometimes he would play those with his whole body, coming up slightly off the chair to add to the force of the sound. Muzzi would also bob his head along to the music, but not nearly as energetically as Cavanaugh did. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Quality Of Education For Tanzanians Children In general, what is at stake is not the description of the population numbers, but concerns about the quality of education for Tanzanians children. Honestly, the growing number of children in Tanzania as (Woods, 2009) alerts, is a clarion call for the country, not only to invest in education, but also excessively in other public services. Comparable to other poor countries as Jeffrey Sachs and Easterly (2006) highlighted, the poor people live entangled in inadequacy, in which taking to account the global abuse of children, poor wellbeing, learning, and poor arrangement reinforce one another (p. 10 ). It is incontestable that children are the eyes of the future of any nation, consequently financing beyond their education quality would be the ultimate investment for their development. This is to say, parents, teachers, and communities need to ensure the safety of children and monitor what they learn in classrooms, while paying a distinctive attention to the marginalized children likely to be victims of quality education and exclusion. • 31. Persuasive Essay On School Shootings School shootings strike into the heart of every American. The thought of innocent students, young with limitless potential, being mercilessly mowed down wrenches one s heart. Yet these events continue to happen. What could possibly drive a person to commit such a horrifying act? That single question has created a fierce debate over the causes of school shootings and what should be done to stop them. The many possible causes include lax gun control laws, poor mental health services, poverty, culture, psychological thresholds, and even masculinity. They touch on sensitive political issues that cause intense division. This divisiveness has prevented any federal action from being taken to directly address the problem. However, it is important to set aside differences and to act in a pragmatic manner. Although some may not like it, it is clear that the increasing number of school shootings in the US is caused by a combination of weak gun control laws, and toxic masculinity. Guns are created to kill. They have been used in many mass shootings and in overwhelming cases, in school shootings. The crowdedness of school campuses make them lethal. It is also no secret that the United States is the wild west when it comes to guns. According to Samantha Gupta from the Harvard Political Review, American civilians own an astounding 270 million guns, more than the civilians of the 21 other countries that had school shootings own combined. That is enough guns to give 84% of the population one each. This is caused by lax gun control laws and the loopholes that exist within them. The failure of the US government to implement universal background checks and bans on certain types of guns and ammunitions have allowed potentially dangerous people access to lethal weapons. And these people wreak havoc. From Gupta again, Out of all these countries that have experienced a school shooting in the given time period, the average number of school shootings per firearm per capita is 0.111; America s average is over five times higher. Often, detractors will point to countries like Switzerland that have high levels of gun ownership yet have almost no school shootings. Chivalry changed over the ages from lifestyle and technology developments, as well as comparing the Medieval version of chivalry to the more modern aspect of it that we have now. One of the most important things to be addressed is the definition of a few keywords: chivalry and knight. She feels trapped in a constant state of misery and boredom in the royal palace. Without life experience guiding her, Cinderella is in a dilemma caused by her ignorance of the potential consequences of her actions. Most of the sentences are declarative sentences, making the exceptions more obvious in the poem. One of the exceptions is found on lines 17 and 18, where the sentence ends in an exclamation point: Why not throw it all up, live on the coast / and fish, no, no, impossible with wives! The exclamation point emphasizes the idea that she feels trapped in her situation as a wife. She wants to find a way out of her misery. On lines 20 and 21 there is a question mark on each line: or cut my hair, teach (what?) little girls / and live at home with you? Cinderella reiterates that her options are limited because of her minimal experience in the world. Conte uses a couple parentheses within mid sentence. Cinderella uses the parentheses to convey deeper explanation of her thoughts. For example, Cinderella writes, Ladies / ignore me, or tell me all their petty secrets / (petty because they can t attend meetings) / about this man or that (4 7). However, each theoretical perspective examines different approaches and play different roles in social psychology. Some of the theories that make up social psychology take a micro level approach and emphasize the importance of meanings, interactions, socialization and the development of the self. Role theory explains how individuals play roles in their daily lives. It is composed of both macro level and micro level approaches. Unlike role theory, cognitive theory states that an individual s thinking process influences their social behavior. Cognitive theory is a biological approach to sociology. Symbolic interaction theory describes how social structure and social behaviors are formed through symbols, language, and social interaction. A symbolic interaction theory is a micro level approach.
