impact on the literary and social world (Akers). After becoming an important figure in the literary
world, Ernest Hemingway connected with many other well known authors such as Ezra Fitzgerald,

Theme Of Masculinity In Apur Sansar
This essay discusses the different types of masculinity depicted in Apur Sansar (1959), directed by the
Indian filmmaker Satyajit Ray. These representations are explained by analysing and contrasting
different male characters and their attitudes in the film. In addition to this, the significance of
presentism is a key theme when it comes to reflecting on the conventions of the 1950s, not only in the
West but also in Bengal. Finally, the relation between men and women are explored in order to
achieve a better insight about the topic, highlighting Apu and Aparna s relationship during their
marriage. Before Delhi became the capital of India during the British Raj, Calcutta was the first one
where appointed viceroys ruled India. Consequently, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Also, he does not show any instance in raising a family. Notwithstanding this aspect, Apu accepted to
marry Aparna out of sympathy. Despite the economic problems, they were happily married during
marital life in which there was no such a thing as female submissiveness or oppression, unlike other
conventional marriages. In terms of presentism, Apu and Aparna s attitudes as spouses would not be
atypical nowadays but would be opposed to the mentality of the fifties regarding the role of the man
and woman. Another example of presentism is Apu s reaction when Aparna dies. He cried, showing
his sensitivity and emotions, which is associated with femininity. Afterwards, he became an
emasculated man who is not capable of showing love to his son. In the 50s, the reaction would be
totally different to get a new wife as Apu s neighbor

Summary Of Under The Influence Scott Sanders
Reading Response Under the Influence
Under the Influence by Scott Russell Sanders was a gripping story about a family and child that had to
keep a dark secret that their father was an alcoholic. Sanders opens his story by saying, My father
drank as a gasp for breath, as a starving dog gobbles food compulsively, secretly, in pain and
trembling . Pg. 60 When I read those words my stomach turned. It made me think about my ex
husband, he drank the same exact way. I felt the same way Sanders felt, that I had to keep this dark
secret from my family and friends. Sanders went into detail how they would never know what person
would come home from work. Would it be there loving father who was attentive, who was smart, who
would be nice, or would ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The day that they were moving, the movers cracked opened beers and afford one to his father. His
father just could not say no, why should he, after all he hadn t had drink in fifteen years. One drink is
all it took; Sanders father became a drunk again. Sanders mother just could not tell her son that his
father started drinking again. Sanders decided to visit his parents with his family. When they pulled up
he noticed his father was sleeping in the hammock in the middle of the day. He knew right then and
there that his father was drinking again because he would only sleep during the day if he was drunk.
He did not need his mother to tell him that he was drunk, he could smell it, see it in his eyes, he could
hear it in his speech. His wife and daughter asked him what was wrong and that moment he had to
admit to his wife for the first time, that his father is an alcoholic. His father passed away from

Education And Education
How it has affected teachers: Teachers believe that their students should not be held to the same
standards as their non disabled peers (Karvonen et al, 2013) Teachers are judged more on their
portfolios and not on student skills and knowledge (Restroff et al., 2012) Assessments are time
consuming and not relevant to their students needs. Teachers lack the knowledge, teaching skills,
resources, and professional development needed to teach to the general education curriculum
(Karvonen et al., 2013) Because progress on alternate assessment is tied to AYP, assessments must
measure the same academics as regular assessments. Because of this, teachers are teaching to the test
rather than teaching to the IEP. If teachers are ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Until a child is at the minimal cognitive level needed to be accurately assessed, there is no value to
taking the assessment. The advantage of this screening tool is that it will not only determine eligibility
to take the alternate assessments, but will also show student growth. One of the disadvantages is that it
will take time and money to hire a team of trained professionals to develop the screening tool, and to
train teachers to administer the screenings on a yearly basis, however it will cut back on the amount of
students who take the assessments year to year which will in turn decrease the amount of teachers who
need alternate assessment training. Option 2: Give parents the ability to opt out. Participation in
alternate assessment takes away from the time a child could be spending on learning the
individualized academic, social, and functional skills needed to be able to function as independently as
an adult. If students with disabilities must be included in the states AYP, and if parents of typical
children have the option to opt out their child, parents of students with significant cognitive
disabilities should be given the same courtesy. An advantage to this option is that by having students
with significant cognitive disabilities opt out, low assessment scores will not count towards the district
s AYP. A disadvantage of having

Wolves vs Humans
Wolves and humans have an ongoing battle between one another. Hunter vs the hunted, humans are
always the hunted and the wolf the hunter, but in an amazing turn of events humans take matters into
their own hands and become the hunters, demolishing the danger that hunts them, the wolf. Wolves
have been depicted as voracious killers, for as long as I can remember, and we humans are the prey
they seek, victims of their sharp teeth and thirst for blood. The media does an extraordinary job in
representing the wolf as a killer, deceiver and danger. Wolves however, were a symbol of life in the
olden days, around 300 BC. It wasn t until humans began to own farm lands that this battle, and
stigma developed. Wolves no longer became a symbol they idolized , but a symbol of terror and
gruesome death. As our societies developed, the media became part of our everyday life, resulting in a
new image. An image where the wolf, as a species, drastically changed. My visual argument
demonstrates three categories: Big Bad Wolf, Ranchers Eye, and Wolf as Lamb. I hope to demonstrate
the negative impacts that the media has created for the wolf, as a result, helps reinforces the fears and
beliefs we have as a society have of wolves, negative associations that depict the wolf as evil,
dangerous, and a threat to our lives. Big Bad Wolf is the first category within my visual argument
which emphasizes the role that the media plays in representing wolves as rogue, vicious, voracious
killers,

Golden Ratio Essay
The relation between science and art has been long lasting. The first scientific discipline that comes to
mind is mathematics and specifically geometry. Before the scientific method of Bacon and the
Renaissance we, mankind, had geometry earth measure. Geo + Metry and the Egyptians used it in the
architecture of the Pyramids. Herodotus, the Ancient Greek historian wrote
This king divided the land . . . so as to give each one a quadrangle of equal size and . . . on each
imposing a tax. But everyone from whose part the river tore anything away . . . he sent overseers to
measure out how much the land had become smaller, in order that the owner might pay on what was

Green line From her hairline at the top of her forehead to the bottom of her upper foot.
Blue line Her height, as measured from the middle of the feet to the top of her head at the back of the

The new knowledge of light, color and human anatomy prior to the 1700s along with the knowledge
of the ancients helped Renaissance, Baroque, and Rococo achieve a higher degree of artistry in their
works. The use of sfumato was one. Instead of stark linear definition of shapes, something is left to the
imagination by the hazy blurring of lines. It is said that the Mona Lisa displays this in the ds Vinci s
use of sfumato for the corners of the eyes and mouth of Mona Lisa to elevate the mystery of her
expression.(Phaidon, 2015).
Artists of the age became anatomists by necessity to reach a level of intuitive familiarity with the
characteristics of the human body to ensure accurate renderings. The Florentine sculptor Baccio
Bandinelli (1493 1560) wrote to a duke when seeking employment, I will show you that I know how
to dissect the brain, and also living men, as I have dissected dead ones to learn my art (Bambach,

Status of Women in India
in india When one boy is educated, one person will be wise. When one girl is educated entire family
will be wise. This is famous quote by girl education pioneer Mahatma Phule. This underlines the
importance women in society. From the time of independence our constitution concentrated to give
enough right for women. But the problem is that women are facing many problems in this modern age
of gender equality.
The structure of Indian society is different and unique than any other. Indian society believes in epics
like Ramayana and Mahabharata more than anything else. Society wants that a woman should be like

Instead, estimates show only 496 million women in the population today. This implies that there are
some 32 million missing women in India. Some are never born, and the rest die because they do not
have the opportunity to survive. Sex ratio (number of female per 1,000 male) is an important indicator
of women s status in the society. In 1901 there were 972 females per 1,000 males, while by 1971; the
ratio has come down to 930 females per 1,000 males. In 1981 there has been only a nominal increase
in the female sex ratio within 934 females to 1,000 males. There were only 926 females per 1000
males in India according to 1991 census. |
The 2001 census indicate that the trend has been slightly arrested with the sex ratio at 933 females per
1000 males, with Kerala at 1058 females. The sex ratio of the 0 6 age group has declined sharply from
945 in 1991 to 927 in 2001. According to UNFPA State of world population 2005, Punjab (793),
Haryana (820), Delhi (865), Gujarat (878) and Himachal Pradesh (897) have worst child sex ratio.
Facing this problem is not easy at all. We have to make families aware about the importance of girl
child for the balance of society.

Drug Trafficking In Costa Rica
Drug trafficking is the worldwide manufacturing, distribution, and selling of illegal substances.
Organizations called drug cartels are the illegal businesses that conduct this trade. According to the
UNODC, Afghanistan is the world s largest producer of heroin and other opiates, and the majority of
opiates produced in the world are trafficked through Afghanistan s surrounding countries. North
America accounts for 40% of the world s cocaine consumption, and Colombia is one of the largest
cocaine suppliers for both North America and Europe. Peru, Bolivia, and Central American countries
are some of the main cocaine suppliers in Europe. One of the first global drug conflicts were the

1,700 kilos of cocaine are approximated to be dealt through Costa Rica by the end of 2016. In 2014,
more than 20% of the country s GDP was being used for drug trafficking, drug production, corruption,
tax evasion, and other crime. For most of the 2000 s Costa has led Central american countries in drug
confiscation, and the country s police organizations have been coordinated to focus their efforts on
patrolling ocean and sea routes for smuggling. Costa Rica is also working with the US, Colombia, and
Panama to diminish this problem. Unlike many other countries, especially in Central America, it is not
a criminal offence to possess drugs for immediate personal use. Many Central American countries
including Costa Rica are wanting an international debate to reform drug legislations. In 2013, Costa
Rica allied with the US to prevent drug cartels from infiltrating the country. Besides improving
security measures, Costa Rica has not proposed any major resolutions to the drug trafficking problem.
One method of prevention that the Costa Rican government would be in favor of is focusing their
efforts on shutting down drug cartels. Drug cartels in particular pose large threats to many Latin
American countries around Costa Rica, and disbanding these cartels should be the main focus for this
region. If drug cartels were no longer a threat, Costa Rica would not have to fear being overtaken by
these organizations, and the drug supply around the rest of the world, especially Central America and
the US, would be greatly

The Most Important Decisions Of Your College Career
Choosing a major is of the most important decisions of your college career and that s why students
start sweating profusely when it s brought up. The life and career advice to follow your love, follow
your passion, or follow your bliss, as different people call this thing out there, just patiently waiting
ahead of you, has been the favorite and most quoted catch phrase and generic career advice, given by
the all knowing Gurus of life, to all the newbie s starting out in life. Our passion for a particular job,
industry or profession is not immediately found at the beginning of our path, but recognized
somewhere in the middle of our path. Finding a passion is a lifetime activity that we get to practice in
college in finding a major where we can revel in something that engages us at our best. Then the world
will offer opportunities to work in areas that may become our passions that were never even on the
radar screen. Steve Jobs and Cal Newport have very different perspective on legitimacy of follow your
heart concept s application to finding your passion. Follow your heart is dangerous and limiting career
advice. Passion is not something you follow. It s something that will follow you as you put in the hard
work to become valuable to the world. American educational culture is obsessed with the idea that we
need to find our passion in order to be happy and successful doing the job you love. The title of Steve
Jobs commencement address in 2005 at Stanford

The Importance Of Environmental Problems On The Environment
With as many environmental problems that plague the world today, they all fall within three different
aspects of everyday life: political systems, economic systems, and material structures and resources.
The following theories conceptualize the root of environmental problems in these different areas of
society but are able to offer solutions independent of each other. In the selections of From Welfare
State to Ecostate, James Meadowcraft suggests that the key to solving environmental problems lies
within political systems and that we must rebuild those systems so that the environment will be
considered in every decision that gets made. Anthony Weston, in his book Mobilizing the Green
Imagination, feels that environmental problems lie in economic systems and that the solution would be
to revamp how products are made and distributed to limit the impact that production has on the
environment. Finally, in Techno Fix Michael and Joyce Huesemann see environmental problems
stemming from material structures and resources and that the way to combat problems in this aspect is
to reinvent technology that is sustainable, rather than having society function on resources that are
unsustainable (fossil fuels, for example).
To begin with, James Meadowcraft s solution can best be described as reshaping political systems to
be more ecologically conscious states. An ecological state, according to Meadowcraft, is one that
hugely considers the impact that every facet of the entire nation has on

Cvs Sets High Standards For Csr Policies
CVS sets high standards for CSR policies. The strategy is build upon three key factors, which include
building healthy communities, protecting the planet, and creating economic opportunities. It is
supported by strategic priorities and goals, and aligned with the CSR material issues we identified in
2013, a process that was informed by internal and external stakeholders (CVS Health).
One of the factors, which are also included in our CVS´s mission statement, is to make healthcare
accessible and affordable. The market reach of CVS is expanding through a globalized environment.
The second of these three pillars of CVS´s corporate social responsibility takes the environmental
awareness into account. A reduction in the environmental impact resulting from operations will create
an environmentally responsible behavior.
A diversified workforce with high ethical standards throughout the entire company is part of the last
key factor of the CSR of CVS Caremark. By providing transparency around corporate policies and
practices in ways that build trust with stakeholders, the regulatory compliance and standards will be
met (CVS, CSR).

Comparison Of Nibelungenlied Savagery And Good Manners
In The Nibelungenlied savagery and good manners have an integral role in the interactions between
characters and the epic as a whole. Proper etiquette is emphasized within the medieval culture, it is
used as a sign of respect and admiration to one s superior or equal. However, Savagery is often either
celebrated or discounted completely. There are many instances within the epic when an event or a
character s actions could be perceived as ignoble or undignified, usually, such acts are frowned upon
in medieval literature. However, in The Nibelungenlied these acts are not only acceptable, in certain
instances, they are even praised. Good manners are often used by characters within the epic in order to
gain some sort of political or strategical advantage. When Siegfried first ventures to Burgundy, he

Gunther decides that appeasing Siegfried and making an ally of him would be significantly more
productive than battling him and risk losing the lives of many of his men. Gunther appeases Siegfried
by being well mannered and gracious towards him. Gunther offered The best possible quarters...for

Greek gods good, bad, or both? Well, they are bad and good for the Ancient Greek Civilization. I ll
explain two positive and negative effects it had on Ancient Greeks. These effects affect virtually every
aspect of their society. As stated in Historical. The First positive reason it had is that they could say
that the gods did anything they couldn t explain. They said this because the gods were supposedly in
control of every part of daily life. Such as the weather, crops, love, money, business, earthquakes,
phases of the moon, and if a loaf of bread burned in the oven. As stated in Document two. That seems
like a crazy thing to see that people used to do but that is our history That was one of their most
positive reasons to believe in the gods. You had someone to blame for everything and there was many
of them so you could say it was any of them. That s the first positive effect it had on the Ancient
Greeks. The second positive (and negative) reason is where they used to live Its a positive effect
effects because the view was spectacular. They lived on Thera which is one of the most picturesque
islands of Greece. As stated in Document three. Picturesque means a delightful, striking, or quaint

Compare And Contrast Eaters Of The Dead And Beowulf
Beowulf story is interpreted from two novels, Grendel by John Gardner and Eaters of the Dead by
Michael Cricthon. Beowulf also came up with movie form in 2007 which is starting Angelina Jolie as
Grendel s mother. Beowulf has two main setting; Heorot, a Danish hall, Beowulf s Kingdom. The plot
begins when Beowulf heard that Heorot, the hall which is built by King Hrohtgar, attacked by a
monster known as a Grendel. Beowulf and his warriors travel by sea to Heorot. After he arrives at
Heorot, he fights with Grendel hand by hand and he kills the Grendel. When Beowulf and the others
are celebrating his victory, Grendel s mother continues to attack Heorot. Beowulf follows Grendel s

While, on the poem, he returns to his homeland in Geats and becomes a king, but on the film,
Hrohtgar rewards him to be a king of Heorot and also marry with Hrohtgar s wife (eventough on the
poem, this part is not coming up with). In other case, a representation of Grendel in the poem and the
film has a bit differences. Grendel ,in the film form, comes up to Heorot and kill almost people in the
hall, but on the poem form, Grendel watches Beowulf as Hrothgar s coast guard and kill almost people
in the hall slowly. The differences also in the representation of Beowulf who is fighting with Grendel s
mother. The scene on the film shows that Beowulf is not killing Grendel s mother, but he kisses
Grendel s mother when he follows Grendel s mother till her lair. It is quite different when on the poem
form, Beowulf slays Grendel s mother in Grendel s lair. Back into the plot, the diffences also we can
see for the reason why the dragon attacks Beowulf s kingdom. There are two sources for the poem
which is differences from each other. First one is telling us that dragon attacks Beowulf s kingdom
because a thief distrubs dragon s treasure. The second is telling us that it is just happened, suddenly
the dragon attacks his kingdom. The scene on the film shows that Beowulf comes into lair of Grendel
s mother and back dragon s treasure to Grendel s mother but it s too late and the dragon

Reality Check Setting
I read the realistic fiction novel Reality Check by Peter Abrahams for my book talk assignment. The
realistic setting of the novel starts out in a small town down south called Little Bend in Colorado but
progresses to up north in a well known town called Dover in Vermont. The main character, Cody
Laredo, has a perfect life. He s a great quarterback on his high school football team, he might be able
to get a full college scholarship, and he s dating the prettiest and smartest girl in town, but all his luck

This scene is one of the most important, if not the most important scene of the book because it starts a
chain reaction to the rest of the story. Finding out that Clea went missing shows what Cody s
personality is and what he will do to try and find her. The author has suspensefully expanded the
moment in this key scene to have an effect on the reader. The author wrote, Something that got his
heart beating fast, something, in fact, that woke him up and made him feel alive, as though he d been
in hibernation. Alive, but not in a good way: What Cody saw on the front page of the Guardian was a
photograph of Clea. Over it, a big black headline read: Local Girl Missing (81). This quote illustrates
the craft move by expanding the moment of when Cody read the article about Clea, showing his
emotions and what is going in his mind at the time. It also adds suspense because as the reader reads
the key scene, the reader does not know what is going on and sees what Cody s reaction is. The author
s goal through using this technique is to make the readers feel what Cody is feeling and try to step in
his shoes during this heart breaking scene in the

How Does Mayella Ewell Gain Power In To Kill A Mockingbird
Power can be obtained in many ways, however, there are three main ways to gain power. One could
gain power through their social class, race or gender. Many people throughout history have gained
power in one of these three ways. In Harper Lee s novel To Kill A Mockingbird, power is a common
theme. In this book, Mayella Ewell, a poor, 19 year old white girl, accuses a black man named Tom
Robinson of raping her. Mayella Ewell may not have power in regards to her social class or gender,
she does have power in regards to her race. Mayella is not powerful when it comes to her social class.
Her father, Bob Ewell, has ruined the family s reputation by being known as the town drunk and living
in a dump that was previously a negro cabin. In the novel it states, Maycomb s Ewells lived behind the
town garbage dump in what was once a negro cabin (Lee Document A). The Ewells live in a dump

Let It Be Clear That There Is No Suggestion That Observing
Let it be clear that there is no suggestion that observing someone s hardship can alone result in a
complete understanding of them. Through seeing the life others live and witnessing the specific
struggles they encounter, one cannot claim familiarity. What is being proposed, is that if our acquired
knowledge of the brain has illuminated something about empathy, then it would be reckless as citizens
and as scientists to not use this information to try harder. We never be able to fully understand any one
besides ourselves, but despite this limitation our brains are already, without conscious direction/ on its

Every person deserves the right to be treated with respect and care. Often, trying to survive on the
margins of our society effectively deprives one of these basic needs. Our society often makes it
convenient to ignore and begin to dehumanize the marginalized, as opposed to being with others and
sharing in a piece of their pain and struggle. Sharing in the lives and experiences of individuals who
are at a vulnerable point in their lives may be uncomfortable. Nevertheless, bearing witness to the
cruelties of the world is of utmost importance not only for the bystander s growth and change in
perceptions or bias but for the individual herself/ himself.
To bear witness is to allow oneself to be impacted. By enveloping oneself in the unfamiliar experience
possessed by an other there is a change in both the self and the other. The observer can be impacted in
a very profound way through bearing witness. As illuminated through the previous review of
mirroring systems, the impact is not just on an idealistic level. If one bears witness often, the neural
connections to empathy strengthen, creating a real, physically measurable impact. Also, there is
immeasurable value in bearing witness to the suffering of an other, even if there is no action that the
observer can take to fix the situation. Suffering alone is a horrible fate. Simply by bearing witness to
the suffering of another, the sufferer no longer

In October 1894, French army Captain, Alfred Dreyfus, was arrested and convicted by the French
army of treason for leaking confidential military information to the Germans.1 His conviction was
publicly supported however, it relied on circumstantial evidence in the form of a letter believed to
have been written by him.2 He was found guilty of treason in December 1894 and sentenced to life in
prison even though the evidence was questionable. In 1896, as more people began to question the
verdict, Major Georges Picquart discovered a letter written in the same manner as the one that had

2.2.1 Service
The concept of service comes from business literature. Many researchers have proposed different
definitions of service. Ramaswamy (1996) defined service as business dealings that take place
between the service provider (Donor) and the receiver (Client) to produce a result that satisfied the
customer. According to Lovelock Wirtz (2011) services are economic activities provided by one party

Atkins Diet Healthy
Is the Atkins Diet healthy?
The Atkins Diet, also known as a ketogenic diet, promotes a low carbohydrate and high fat content in
an individual s eating habits.1 It was designed in 1972 by Dr. Robert Atkins, and its popularity derives
from the elimination of calorie counting and disregard for consumption restrictions on fat, protein
content, or portion size. 2, 3 The Atkins Diet is divided into four stages(insert 3). The initial stage
dramatically decreases carbohydrate intake to less than 20g per day(insert 3). Subsequently, every two
weeks carbohydrate intake increases; with attendant weight loss being a marker of successful
progression.3 This paper evaluates whether or not the Atkins Diet is healthy, in particular it narrows
the focus on aspects of three body systems: the cardiovascular system, the respiratory system, and the
nervous system.
According to the Center for Disease Control (CDC), heart disease is the leading cause of death, with
risk factors such as high blood pressure, high blood cholesterol; obesity, unhealthy eating, and

Pharmacy Vs Jackrabbit Pharmacy
What better way to learn about the pharmacy profession than from two SDSU alumni in the university
s own pharmacy? I had the opportunity to learn from Melanie Lunn and Tasha Rausch in the unique
environment that the Jackrabbit Pharmacy brings. I was able to compare and contrast this pharmacy
with the retail pharmacy I work in. The Jackrabbit Pharmacy has a unique patient population and
location which leads to many of these differences. Located on a college campus with a majority of the
patients being young adults, maintaining confidentiality can be an issue. One issue that Melanie
commonly faces is concerned parents calling regarding their child s prescription. Since the passing of
HIPAA, eighteen year olds have the right to keep their health information from their parents. As a
pharmacist, one should be mindful of the information that is discussed with parents of college aged
students. This can be difficult because parents do not always want to abide by this law. While
shadowing at the pharmacy, I saw another potential issue with patient confidentiality. If the pharmacy
were to hire a student intern or clerk, that student could learn about the medical conditions and
medications that his or her friends have. It would be very easy to breach HIPAA and, therefore, a
liability. Luckily, I don t think the pharmacy is planning to do this.
In the Jackrabbit Pharmacy, the pharmacists have developed the pharmacy workplace so that it is easy
to respect patient confidentiality. For

History of Cosmetology Essay
History of Cosmetology Nail Care
Cosmetology is the study and application of beauty treatment. Branches of specialty including
hairstyling, skin care, cosmetics, manicures/pedicures, and electrology.
Nail Technology is the art and science of beautifying and improving the nails and skin of the hands
and feet.
The history of nail care reveals some intriguing facts. It was a part of aristocracy and a symbol of
status in ancient times. It was in the nineteenth century that nail care started to become a part of
fashion and glamour. Today nail salons all over the world offer various nail care services and plenty of
nail care products are available for use in home but it still in some way reflects that symbolism of

History of Nail Care in the Nineteenth Century
With the social and technological developments, new tools for nail care began to emerge in Europe. In
1830 a foot doctor named Sitts invented a wooden manicure tool. Before that metal rod, acid, scissors
etc. were used for manicure. Almond shaped nails or slightly pointed nail styles were popular at that
time.
In 1890 s these trends reached United States. Soon many salons started to offer nail care services to
women. But mostly nail care was a personal thing; women usually took care of their nails by
themselves.
History of nail Care in the Twentieth Century
In the beginning of Twentieth century nail care and nail polish become hugely popular by courtesy of
glamorous Hollywood film stars. New companies were coming in the market with new nail care tools
and techniques. New nail paints and shades arrived together with polish removers, nail protectors and
other tools that made it possible to choose any style at any time and complement the overall dress up
with a matching nail color. At that time manicure was done in barber shops not in beauty salons.
1970 s was the era of artificial nails. These nails looked real, were usually long and worn by the rich.
Soon nail drills were introduced to use on acrylic nails. Nail charms, gold nails as well as nail art were
getting popular. Then French manicure arrived in the market and it was ruled the

Pros And Cons Of Medical Imaging

testing. There are similarities and differences; pros and cons to each. This paper will discuss MRI, CT,
and ultrasound. They each have important things to know regarding radiation dose, cost, and reasons
to use one over another. MRI provides both anatomic and physiologic information. It is the modality
of choice when cartilage, nerves, or organs are of interest. Magnetic resonance imaging does not give
off any ionizing radiation. Instead, the magnetic force reacts with the hydrogen in our bodies to show
the images. Because of this fact, it is the least harmful to the patient. A major con regarding MRI is the

The prices can vary greatly state to state. Unfortunately, it falls on the patient if it is a scheduled exam
to shop around to get the best price available to them. Just like the MRI machines, these scanners can
run anywhere from $65,000 to 2.5 million dollars. Where CT excels over MRI, is the fact that anyone
who has metal in their body that is not removable, can have this scan with no issue. The scan itself is
faster, for the patients who may be claustrophobic, this gives them some peace of mind. It also does
not produce the loud banging noises that the MRI gives off. The only real contraindication would be
any contrast allergies. CT can still be performed without contrast, but the areas of interest won t be
highlighted as well. A typical scan takes about fifteen to thirty minutes, depending on what anatomy is
being looked at.

Media s Goals For The Future
Throughout history, humans have possessed an intrinsic desire to communicate with one another.
Traditionally, communication occurred in the form of face to face contact, body language, or via
written messages sent from one to another. However, the invention of one particular form of
communication, mass communication, has changed the way some messages are sent and received.
Mass communication is defined as, the industrialized production and multiple distribution of messages
through technological devices, and has allowed for the rise of mass media outlets, or companies that

cinema (1952 1975). During that period parallel cinema movement emerged in India. This parallel
cinema movement was mainly led by Bengali cinema. Satyajit Ray was born in Calcutta, and his
family was very prominent in the field of arts and literature. He earned his reputation with his first
film Pather Panchali (1955), it won eleven international awards, and with this film, he introduced

protest sweeping the world in the 1960s and 70s the centered on American aggression in Vietnam, but

antagonism towards capitalism, privilege and neo colonialism, no matter how vaguely they may have

The Bubonic Renaissance And The Renaissance
The Renaissance was a crucial part of the change from the hierarchy and social order that dominated
The Dark Ages to the social mobility that developed when the Early Modern Period began. Due to a
myriad of factors, such as the Bubonic plague, which had devastating effects on the population during
the Late Middle Ages. This combined with the nobility s need for peasant labor resulted in common
people demanding higher wages and increasing the prices of their products. Likewise, skilled workers
could charge more money, since they no longer had as much competition (Perry 189). As a result, the
common people were able to engage in social and economic development, which lead to spiritual
advancement. These changes were reflected throughout Renaissance literature, such as Hamlet by
Shakespeare, Giovanni Pico Della Mirandola s Oration on the Dignity of Man, and The Prince by
Niccolo Machiavelli, as well as religious works such as the The Divine Comedy by Dante Alighieri,
The Creation of Adam by Michelangelo di Lodovico Buonarroti Simoni, and The 95 Theses by Martin
Luther. These works represent the development of a new social structure that occured in conjunction
with the increase learning during the Renaissance. Throughout the Middle Ages, the common people
were seen as inferior, inheriting their low social status and lacking any opportunity to advance in
society. When the Bubonic plague ravaged the common population and the Renaissance movement
took hold of Europe, there was

Synthesis Essay on Indocumented Immigrants in the US
In my ENC 1101 class, we were required to go through several of processes to map out the formula of
writing our final assignment in our class: a synthesis essay. The most imperative part of our
assignment was to choose a synthesis essay question on a list that our professor gave us. The second
most vital ingredient in the formula was to choose two texts from our Allyn Bacon Guide to Writing
book which would be the backbone of our synthesis essay that we would have to expand on and create
our own ideas from. The question that I choose to further my vague knowledge on immigration was:
What should the United States do to make progress in solving the problem of undocumented
immigration? The texts and ideas that I write about to answer my ... Show more content on

Seeing the many sides of the immigration conflict, I believe the Congress should allow undocumented
immigrants to live in America, but they must show that they are an asset to America. Despite the fact
that Williams writes for a call to action for the resolution of immigration in the United States, his
article is a blog article written for his blog followers. Williams article is not intended for scholarly
audiences, while Hanson s article is. Hanson s article is published on the History News Network,
which requires great thought and reviewing, whereas Williams is just required to write an article and
post on the Huffington Post in his profile, without an editor to review the contents of the article.
Williams is free to voice his opinion in whichever language he desires due to it being a blog article,
and Hanson is not. However, due to this being so, Hanson s article proves to more credible that
Williams article, especially due to the fact that Hanson is a military historian and political essayist.
But, Williams article provides pathos in his article by including a personal anecdote in the introduction
of it. The anecdote transcends the article to his purpose of explaining the political part of the
immigration issue, making his standpoint and call to action clear. But then again, Hanson writes with
logos, making his readers look

The Juvenile Justice System
This article discussed diversion programs that are used to help adolescents who have been arrested for
first time misdemeanors. These diversion programs use group counseling as a mandatory component
of sentencing demonstrate initial success in reducing recidivism rates in national outcome studies. The
goal of these diversion programs are to keep adolescents out of the juvenile justice system whenever
possible (Lipsey, Howell, Kelly, Chapman, Carver, 2010). These diversion programs divert
adolescents from entering the juvenile justice system and offer alternatives to formal disciplinary
action. Teen courts (also called Youth Courts) are a growing type of diversion program that utilize a
therapeutic approach, with over 1,050 teen youth courts currently operating in the United States. They
are designed to promote restorative justice, encouraging the youth to restore the damages his or her
behaviors caused to the community. Teen courts have the flexibility to incorporate essential life skills
that are tailored to adolescents developmental needs. These groups sessions are within one year of
time and members have to complete six to eight of the sessions. These sessions include: the
introduction, communication styles, goal setting, career development, anger management skills,
healthy relationships, wellness and termination. Counseling Group Framework The philosophy of the
group counseling approach is to focus on the strengths and life skills opposed to punitive measures

A Gathering Of Old Men By Ernest J. Gaines
The past is never completely forgotten and in A Gathering of Old Men by Ernest J. Gaines, this
statement is proven true. Set in the 1970s in central Louisiana on the tail end of the Civil Rights and
Jim Crow eras, this novel by Gaines reflects on the struggle between past traditions and a new world
order. The setting presented directly correlates to the theme of change in the novel and how broader
societal changes affect the characters actions. By examining the significance of the theme of change in
the novel and how it plays out in the motivation and continuance of the plot, the reader can see what
the consequences of a large shift in societal thinking can have on a community. In A Gathering of Old
Men, most readers would agree that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I m interested only in my family. If the majority feels their brother is not worth it, then the family has
spoken. I m only interested in my family (Gaines 145). In this passage, the ideological differences
between generations become very apparent. The philosophical differences between Fix and his son,
Gil, can be attributed to three things time, education, and exposure to different groups of people. Fix
and Beau are uneducated Cajuns that farm the land with tractors, however this contrasts with Gil, who
is pursuing an education at LSU. Because of his higher education and sports background, Gil has had
to work with many different groups of people, which then bred tolerance within him and ultimately
led to his change in ideals. Like Gil and Fix, a similar metamorphosis occurs in the character of
Charlie. Even though Charlie is one of the most important characters, he does not appear until the last
few chapters of the novel. In his own words, Charlie describes his change: He cussed me. I was doing
my work good. Cussed me anyhow. I told him he didn t need to cuss me like that. I told him I was
doing my work good. He told me he wouldn t just cuss me, but he would beat me, too. I told him no, I
wasn t go n low that no more, cause I was fifty years old half a hundred. (Gaines 190) He

Balloon Angioplasty Essay
1. Introduction Cardiovascular disease is the leading cause of death in the world accounting for 17.5
million people, or more than 30% of all deaths. Atherosclerosis leads to coronary artery disease, which
is a manifestation of ischemic heart disease [1,2]. When an artery narrows, or becomes blocked,
intervention is required to restore normal blood flow. In patients with multi vessel coronary artery
disease, coronary artery bypass graft surgery in generally accepted as a better method due to the
greater risk of developing recurrent ischemic events. However, in those with a single vessel
obstruction, the non surgical procedure known as percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) has been
shown to be as effective in treating stenosis [2]. PCI is achieved using balloon angioplasty, which was
first introduced in 1977 [1]. 1.1 Bare Metal Stents (BMS) By the mid 1980 s, bare metal stents (BMS)
were developed to overcome the limitations of balloon angioplasty [1]. Coronary stents are metal
lattices that hold the vessel open, which prevents recoil following angioplasty [2]. They are delivered
using a catheter mounted balloon inserted either in the brachial or femoral artery, which is then
threaded to the site of blockage in the coronary artery. The balloon is inflated, and the stent is released
covering the stenosed lesion ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Out of 744 cases, eight main reasons for using BMS were found to be: large vessel diameter (32.4%);
ST segment elevation MIs (17.7%); reimbursement/other reasons (9.4%); advanced age (12.4%);
concomitant oral coagulant treatment (11.3%); increased bleeding risk, cancer, or anemia (9.5%);
planned surgery within 12 months (5.5%); and anticipated poor dual antiplatelet therapy (DAPT)
compliance (1.7%). Patients often receive BMS over DES to avoid long term DAPT; this reduces
treatment from 1 year for DES to 1 month for BMS

Elements Of Romanticism In The Scarlet Letter
Romanticism writing started in the early 1800 s, and it expressed seven elements of American
Literature, ranging from the value on individualism to the supernatural. Two pieces of writing that
developed during this time were, The Scarlet Letter by Nathaniel Hawthorne and Civil Disobedience
by Henry David Thoreau. The Scarlet Letter is a novel about a woman, Hester Prynne, who committed
adultery with the minister, Arthur Dimmesdale and has to proceed with her life by being shamed. In
Civil Disobedience, Thoreau discusses how individuals should not let government overpower and
have unjust laws. Therefore, romantic writers use the elements of value on individualism and the
reliance on instinct through irony and metaphors to show how members of high society, who break
their own rules, inflict their hypocrisy on others.
One such writer who used the romantic element of reliance on instinct through metaphors is Nathaniel
Hawthorne. The romantic element of reliance on instinct is the idea that spark of God is within
everyone making one s instinct reliable. In The Scarlet Letter Dimmesdale was to meet Pearl and
Hester in their meeting spot, the forest since he cannot be seen with them in public due to his status in
society as a minister. In effect, Pearl asks Hester Prynne And, mother, he has his hand over his heart!
Is it because... the Black Man set his mark in that place? But why does he not wear it outside his
bosom, as thou dost, mother? (Hawthorne, 184). As one

The Importance Of Animated Dental Videos
The Importance of Animated Dental Videos
Right now animated dental videos are what s trending in the web world. The reason is that most
consumers are used to seeing these kinds of videos. Animated videos have an informal and friendly
nature that allows people to let their guards down. This allows you to express your marketing message
without as much resistance. We are seeing 3D animations creep up in popularity in the marketing of
dental products. The tv was one of the first to use animation for commercials for toothbrushes and
toothpaste. Now you can popularly see dental care commercials that show animated evil plaques being
terminated by heroic toothpaste particles.
Another valid point to why our animated dental videos are in high need is because nobody wants to
look in somebody else s mouth. It comes from the eighties where 2D was at its peak than in the
nineties it was replaced with 3D and is here now. Today you would practically be a mediocre dentist if
you can not show your 12 year old patient a beautiful 3D animation of her braces in your initial
consult. We specialize in making the procedures look pretty and simple. We keep in mind how to
appeal to your future patients and current ones through flattering camera angles, keeping things
moving and up to pace as well as keeping the colors sweet and soft.

World War 1 Chlorine Research Paper
Backtrack to April 22, 1915. Halfway around the world in Ypres, Belgium, German forces surprise
two French Colonial divisions by unleashing nearly 150 tons of pure fatal chlorine gas. Because they
had never been exposed to chemical warfare on a scale like this; The French forces had no protection
against this deadly toxin. This lack of preparation sent front line troops into a panic. Nearly 6,000
troops were killed because of the deadly gas. These soldiers did not die peacefully, as they choked and
burned to death as if they were parasites. The Germans, who bombarded No man s land and the front
line trenches with the chlorine gas were equally as surprised with the devastation the unbeatable gas
left. Long story short, although German forces had a major advantage with this toxic new weapon;
they failed to come out of the Second Battle of Ypres with a victory. Shortly after worldwide mass
production of gas masks were being put into effect for the war. This first use of chemical warfare

These Halite mines are very common, as there is a natural abundance to the element Chlorine. The top
three Chlorine producers in the world are China, India, and the United States of America, in that order.
Chlorine is used in everyday cleaning products like water purifiers, like pools so common in the
American backyard, and bleach. Chlorine is used in things like swimming pools and bleach because of
how powerful of an element it is. In pools it is used to clean out any unnatural unnecessary objects in
the water like algae. Its immense amount of strength is why it is such an important element in bleach
as like the pool, it kills nearly everything. Nearly 20% of all Chlorine that is mined is used to create
PVC, which is used in the production of things like window frames, car interiors, water pipes, blood
bags, electrical wiring, and vinyl

These representations are explained by analysing and contrasting different male characters and their attitudes in the film. In addition to this, the significance of presentism is a key theme when it comes to reflecting on the conventions of the 1950s, not only in the West but also in Bengal. In terms of presentism, Apu and Aparna s attitudes as spouses would not be atypical nowadays but would be opposed to the mentality of the fifties regarding the role of the man and woman. Another example of presentism is Apu s reaction when Aparna dies. He cried, showing his sensitivity and emotions, which is associated with femininity. Afterwards, he became an emasculated man who is not capable of showing love to his son. In the 50s, the reaction would be totally different to get a new wife as Apu s neighbor ... Sanders opens his story by saying, My father drank as a gasp for breath, as a starving dog gobbles food compulsively, secretly, in pain and trembling . Pg. 60 When I read those words my stomach turned. It made me think about my ex husband, he drank the same exact way. Education And Education How it has affected teachers: Teachers believe that their students should not be held to the same standards as their non disabled peers (Karvonen et al, 2013) Teachers are judged more on their portfolios and not on student skills and knowledge (Restroff et al., 2012) Assessments are time consuming and not relevant to their students needs. Teachers lack the knowledge, teaching skills, resources, and professional development needed to teach to the general education curriculum (Karvonen et al., 2013) Because progress on alternate assessment is tied to AYP, assessments must measure the same academics as regular assessments. Until a child is at the minimal cognitive level needed to be accurately assessed, there is no value to taking the assessment. The advantage of this screening tool is that it will not only determine eligibility to take the alternate assessments, but will also show student growth. One of the disadvantages is that it will take time and money to hire a team of trained professionals to develop the screening tool, and to train teachers to administer the screenings on a yearly basis, however it will cut back on the amount of students who take the assessments year to year which will in turn decrease the amount of teachers who need alternate assessment training. Option 2: Give parents the ability to opt out. Participation in alternate assessment takes away from the time a child could be spending on learning the individualized academic, social, and functional skills needed to be able to function as independently as an adult. If students with disabilities must be included in the states AYP, and if parents of typical children have the option to opt out their child, parents of students with significant cognitive disabilities should be given the same courtesy. An advantage to this option is that by having students with significant cognitive disabilities opt out, low assessment scores will not count towards the district s AYP. A disadvantage of having ... Hunter vs the hunted, humans are always the hunted and the wolf the hunter, but in an amazing turn of events humans take matters into their own hands and become the hunters, demolishing the danger that hunts them, the wolf. Wolves have been depicted as voracious killers, for as long as I can remember, and we humans are the prey they seek, victims of their sharp teeth and thirst for blood. The media does an extraordinary job in representing the wolf as a killer, deceiver and danger. Wolves however, were a symbol of life in the olden days, around 300 BC. It wasn t until humans began to own farm lands that this battle, and stigma developed. Wolves no longer became a symbol they idolized , but a symbol of terror and gruesome death. As our societies developed, the media became part of our everyday life, resulting in a new image. An image where the wolf, as a species, drastically changed. My visual argument demonstrates three categories: Big Bad Wolf, Ranchers Eye, and Wolf as Lamb. I hope to demonstrate the negative impacts that the media has created for the wolf, as a result, helps reinforces the fears and beliefs we have as a society have of wolves, negative associations that depict the wolf as evil, dangerous, and a threat to our lives. • 11. The Importance Of Environmental Problems On The Environment With as many environmental problems that plague the world today, they all fall within three different aspects of everyday life: political systems, economic systems, and material structures and resources. The following theories conceptualize the root of environmental problems in these different areas of society but are able to offer solutions independent of each other. In the selections of From Welfare State to Ecostate, James Meadowcraft suggests that the key to solving environmental problems lies within political systems and that we must rebuild those systems so that the environment will be considered in every decision that gets made. Anthony Weston, in his book Mobilizing the Green Imagination, feels that environmental problems lie in economic systems and that the solution would be to revamp how products are made and distributed to limit the impact that production has on the environment. Finally, in Techno Fix Michael and Joyce Huesemann see environmental problems stemming from material structures and resources and that the way to combat problems in this aspect is to reinvent technology that is sustainable, rather than having society function on resources that are unsustainable (fossil fuels, for example). To begin with, James Meadowcraft s solution can best be described as reshaping political systems to be more ecologically conscious states. The realistic setting of the novel starts out in a small town down south called Little Bend in Colorado but progresses to up north in a well known town called Dover in Vermont. This scene is one of the most important, if not the most important scene of the book because it starts a chain reaction to the rest of the story. Finding out that Clea went missing shows what Cody s personality is and what he will do to try and find her. The author has suspensefully expanded the moment in this key scene to have an effect on the reader. The author wrote, Something that got his heart beating fast, something, in fact, that woke him up and made him feel alive, as though he d been in hibernation. Alive, but not in a good way: What Cody saw on the front page of the Guardian was a photograph of Clea. Over it, a big black headline read: Local Girl Missing (81). This quote illustrates the craft move by expanding the moment of when Cody read the article about Clea, showing his emotions and what is going in his mind at the time. It also adds suspense because as the reader reads the key scene, the reader does not know what is going on and sees what Cody s reaction is. The author s goal through using this technique is to make the readers feel what Cody is feeling and try to step in his shoes during this heart breaking scene in the ... Through seeing the life others live and witnessing the specific struggles they encounter, one cannot claim familiarity. Every person deserves the right to be treated with respect and care. Often, trying to survive on the margins of our society effectively deprives one of these basic needs. Our society often makes it convenient to ignore and begin to dehumanize the marginalized, as opposed to being with others and sharing in a piece of their pain and struggle. Sharing in the lives and experiences of individuals who are at a vulnerable point in their lives may be uncomfortable. Nevertheless, bearing witness to the cruelties of the world is of utmost importance not only for the bystander s growth and change in perceptions or bias but for the individual herself/ himself. To bear witness is to allow oneself to be impacted. By enveloping oneself in the unfamiliar experience possessed by an other there is a change in both the self and the other. The observer can be impacted in a very profound way through bearing witness. As illuminated through the previous review of mirroring systems, the impact is not just on an idealistic level. If one bears witness often, the neural connections to empathy strengthen, creating a real, physically measurable impact. I had the opportunity to learn from Melanie Lunn and Tasha Rausch in the unique environment that the Jackrabbit Pharmacy brings. I was able to compare and contrast this pharmacy with the retail pharmacy I work in. The Jackrabbit Pharmacy has a unique patient population and location which leads to many of these differences. Located on a college campus with a majority of the patients being young adults, maintaining confidentiality can be an issue. One issue that Melanie commonly faces is concerned parents calling regarding their child s prescription. Since the passing of HIPAA, eighteen year olds have the right to keep their health information from their parents. As a pharmacist, one should be mindful of the information that is discussed with parents of college aged students. This can be difficult because parents do not always want to abide by this law. While shadowing at the pharmacy, I saw another potential issue with patient confidentiality. If the pharmacy were to hire a student intern or clerk, that student could learn about the medical conditions and medications that his or her friends have. The Bubonic Renaissance And The Renaissance The Renaissance was a crucial part of the change from the hierarchy and social order that dominated The Dark Ages to the social mobility that developed when the Early Modern Period began. Due to a myriad of factors, such as the Bubonic plague, which had devastating effects on the population during the Late Middle Ages. This combined with the nobility s need for peasant labor resulted in common people demanding higher wages and increasing the prices of their products. Likewise, skilled workers could charge more money, since they no longer had as much competition (Perry 189). As a result, the common people were able to engage in social and economic development, which lead to spiritual advancement. These changes were reflected throughout Renaissance literature, such as Hamlet by Shakespeare, Giovanni Pico Della Mirandola s Oration on the Dignity of Man, and The Prince by Niccolo Machiavelli, as well as religious works such as the The Divine Comedy by Dante Alighieri, The Creation of Adam by Michelangelo di Lodovico Buonarroti Simoni, and The 95 Theses by Martin Luther. If the majority feels their brother is not worth it, then the family has spoken. I m only interested in my family (Gaines 145). In this passage, the ideological differences between generations become very apparent. The philosophical differences between Fix and his son, Gil, can be attributed to three things time, education, and exposure to different groups of people. Fix and Beau are uneducated Cajuns that farm the land with tractors, however this contrasts with Gil, who is pursuing an education at LSU. Because of his higher education and sports background, Gil has had to work with many different groups of people, which then bred tolerance within him and ultimately led to his change in ideals. Like Gil and Fix, a similar metamorphosis occurs in the character of Charlie. Even though Charlie is one of the most important characters, he does not appear until the last few chapters of the novel. In his own words, Charlie describes his change: He cussed me. I was doing my work good. Cussed me anyhow. I told him he didn t need to cuss me like that. I told him I was doing my work good. He told me he wouldn t just cuss me, but he would beat me, too. I told him no, I wasn t go n low that no more, cause I was fifty years old half a hundred. (Gaines 190) He ... • 47. Balloon Angioplasty Essay 1. Introduction Cardiovascular disease is the leading cause of death in the world accounting for 17.5 million people, or more than 30% of all deaths. Atherosclerosis leads to coronary artery disease, which is a manifestation of ischemic heart disease [1,2]. When an artery narrows, or becomes blocked, intervention is required to restore normal blood flow. In patients with multi vessel coronary artery disease, coronary artery bypass graft surgery in generally accepted as a better method due to the greater risk of developing recurrent ischemic events. However, in those with a single vessel obstruction, the non surgical procedure known as percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) has been shown to be as effective in treating stenosis [2]. PCI is achieved using balloon angioplasty, which was first introduced in 1977 [1]. 1.1 Bare Metal Stents (BMS) By the mid 1980 s, bare metal stents (BMS) were developed to overcome the limitations of balloon angioplasty [1]. Coronary stents are metal lattices that hold the vessel open, which prevents recoil following angioplasty [2]. They are delivered using a catheter mounted balloon inserted either in the brachial or femoral artery, which is then threaded to the site of blockage in the coronary artery. The balloon is inflated, and the stent is released covering the stenosed lesion ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 48. Elements Of Romanticism In The Scarlet Letter Romanticism writing started in the early 1800 s, and it expressed seven elements of American Literature, ranging from the value on individualism to the supernatural. Two pieces of writing that developed during this time were, The Scarlet Letter by Nathaniel Hawthorne and Civil Disobedience by Henry David Thoreau. The Scarlet Letter is a novel about a woman, Hester Prynne, who committed adultery with the minister, Arthur Dimmesdale and has to proceed with her life by being shamed. In Civil Disobedience, Thoreau discusses how individuals should not let government overpower and have unjust laws. Therefore, romantic writers use the elements of value on individualism and the reliance on instinct through irony and metaphors to show how members of high society, who break their own rules, inflict their hypocrisy on others. One such writer who used the romantic element of reliance on instinct through metaphors is Nathaniel Hawthorne. The romantic element of reliance on instinct is the idea that spark of God is within everyone making one s instinct reliable. In The Scarlet Letter Dimmesdale was to meet Pearl and Hester in their meeting spot, the forest since he cannot be seen with them in public due to his status in society as a minister.
